The Garden By William Makepeace Thackeray Analysis
The garden straddles the border between the public and the private, the social and the personal, and
the city and the country. It is both man made, yet natural; both intimate, yet open. Hence, the garden,
as a place of such contradictions, becomes a space for William Makepeace Thackeray to facilitate
characters contemplation, pushing the engagement with the dichotomy between nostalgia and
progress.
It is in the Royal Gardens at Vauxhall where William Dobbin s intense desire for Amelia begins to
slowly manifest. As she wanders through the paths of the garden with George Osborne, he becomes
distracted by her, ignoring the gardens that surround him:
[A]nd as he saw that good looking couple, threading the walks to the girl s delight and wonder, he
watched her artless happiness with a sort of fatherly pleasure. Perhaps he felt that he would have liked
to have something on his own arm besides a shawl [...] And the truth is, that of all the delights of the
Gardens; [...] Captain William Dobbin did not take the slightest notice. (Thackeray 63)
This passage, set in a very social engagement it is the evening of an expected proposal sees Dobbin
caught in a moment of disengagement of a private longing for Amelia. Thackeray teases Dobbin s
desires by suggesting that [p]erhaps he felt that he would have liked to have something on his own
arm besides a shawl and going into a lengthy list of all the delights of the Gardens which he ignores
(63). Dobbin, in a sense, becomes withdrawn

This literature review is focusing on the methods for recycling waste tyres particularly that of TDF
(tyre derived fuels) as well as other methods utilised globally. Currently in Australia approximately
52.5 million waste tyres are produced annually with an estimated 13% being recycled through
processes that involve separating the steel and rubber and using the resulting components for various
other products or reusing the tyres for a number of construction projects as well as being utilised as a
TDF. Currently the tyres that are not recycled are disposed of as inert landfill, referring to the fact that
they don t decompose due to the way tyres are designed to be durable to function efficiently. There

Alternatively tyres can be recycled through civil engineering projects. These include projects such as
paving, erosion control and retaining walls. Tyres utilised in retaining walls are typically a complete
tyre that has been separated into halves prior to being filled with aggregate to increase the structural
integrity of the tyre before being placed in a number of possible configurations. The tyres, once they
are in their final configuration, can then be coated with a number of finishing products, ranging from
shotcrete to timber, to give a desired appearance. The construction method of these walls can vary
from a gravity supported system, where in the wall retains the earth through the physical weight of the
wall itself, to fully reinforced where further reinforcement is used to obtain the desired strength and
stability. It is common practice in construction of slabs for residential and commercial buildings to use
permanent internal formwork, which is the use of nonconcrete materials to reduce the material costs
when pouring the slab. Common practice is to use polystyrene blocks to offset the amount of concrete
used however it is possible to utilise tyres in the place of polystyrene blocks furthermore it is possible
to use site generated waste that would require to be disposed of using other means. Using tyres in road
and paving construction is ideal for use in areas where the existing strata is of too poor quality to meet
the required

Assembling In The Iliad

Assembling in The Iliad
(Holding councils of war or holding assemblies) Every great war in history has been determined, to
some extent, by the powerful strategies executed by one party of the war. These strategies , most of the
time, are not the brainchild of one individual, but more or less a group of people collaborating toward
one strategy effective enough to turn the tides of battle. The most effective way for important leaders
to voice their opinions for their next endeavor is achieved through the use of assemblies. Assemblies
were very important to the armies in the Trojan War, as both sides had great power, meaning that
cunning strategy would be the winning factor for one of the parties involved in the Trojan War.
However, assemblies held during the Trojan War were more one sided toward the authoritative figures
rather than a true collaboration between leaders and wise men. These assemblies follow a simple
pattern: a leader calls out to the army to form an assembly when he sees it fit; then, the leaders and
wise men then collaborate and voice their opinions on the matter at hand; and finally, the figure with
the highest authority in the assembly decides what to do next as a result of the assembly. The assembly
begins with an important leader calling for one when he sees it fit to form one. For example, an
assembly was called by Achilles due to concerns from the plague in Book 1; it was revealed that

Life At The Bottom And Its Vast Environment
Life at the bottom
The majority of human lives are spent on land. On some occasions people visit the beautiful littoral
regions to beige, unwind, and enjoy the cool currents and warm water. Although people are delighted
with the surface of the ocean, the depth of Ocean remains a mystery. The average depth of a large
body of water, such as the ocean has been recorded to be 12, 500 feet deep. Therefore making the
bodies of water nearly occupy a majority of the earth space. Life at the challenger deep (which is the
deepest part of the ocean) is still an uncharted subject, myths of magnificent and treacherous animal
sightings such as Giant Squids that is also referred to as the Kraken is one of the legendary stories of
them all. With the help of oceanographers and the use of computer models, laboratory and field
experiments, scientist can piece the puzzle of the mysterious beast and its vast environment.
Scientific advances such as the computer models of the earth have brought us to a better
understanding about how life on earth operates. According to Ocean services, the study of
oceanography is the study of marine life and ecosystems, Ocean circulation, plate tectonics and the
geology of the ocean floor. Oceanographers study this aspect of the world to understand how the
chemistry of the ocean interacts with our atmosphere and ecosystems. The computer models have
provided evidence on the floor structure of the ocean, which is effortful to examine due to the pressure

Why Should Animals Be Treated Animals
Animals are treated like non living things by some people. People seem to forget that animals are
living beings and that humans are not that different from animals. Humans are classified as animals
actually. In my opinion animals should be treated as living individuals, not just soulless robots as
Descartes claims them to be. Of course this does not mean that we are supposed to get married with
dogs or give them the right to vote. We just have to respect their dignity and stop behaving as if they
were created to be our slaves. Animals are capable of complex thoughts just like us. They are not just
walking food or cute looking plush toys. They are sentient beings. We interact with them almost every
day. So we have several obligations towards them.
27 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people kill animals as a sport. They shoot animals to prove their shooting skills. There is no
competition in hunting. Animals cannot win in this so called sport. There is only one thing we can tell
to these people. Do your shooting in the shooting range. Animals are not wooden targets people can
practice on. They are sentient beings just like us. We must try to convince the hunters around us of the
immorality of their acts. If we consider animals as persons, then street animals can be considered as
homeless people desperate for help. It is our duty to help them in every way possible. We should put
some food and water on our doorsteps for them to consume. We should offer shelter to them in cold
winter days. Some people hurt street animals for fun. There are laws that prohibit harming animals but
they are not enforced. We should struggle for these laws to be enforced.
Next generation should be educated to respect animals. If we start giving proper education about how
to behave towards animals in schools, next generations will be a lot more animal friendly than the
previous ones. Almost no information on animal rights or animal welfare is given in schools

Shoko Asahara Cult
At first, the religion of Shoko Asahara, Aum Shinrikyo, now the cult Aleph was not the dangerous and
threatening organization its image is associated to be now. In fact, there was a time where Asahara and
Aum Shinrikyo members had taken up an attitude similar to that of a humble missionary. However,
the Aum Shinrikyo faith, as well as Asahara, had been obsessed with some of the philosophies of the
Bible, the Book of Revelation in particular, and had an unfortunate turnaround, which resulted in the
religion s currently bad reputation. This cult is a perfect example to show what Paul meant when he
said that false christs pretend to be holy servants of God. Originally named Chizuo Matsumoto, Shoko
Asahara was one of seven children and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The religion also holds the claim that Asahara is the only person to have attained the highest level of
consciousness and that he is in the state of Nirvana; Asahara even claimed to be Christ. Tibetan beliefs
of extrasensory experiences are also included in the Aum Shinrikyo faith, with clairvoyance,
levitation, and the ability to see through walls being some of these extrasensory abilities that Asahara
promoted and claimed to have (news.bbc.co.uk; fas.org). According to John Pike, the Aum Shinrikyo
faith strongly promoted Shiva, the god of destruction, and thus put a particular emphasis on
Armageddon, or the end of the world. Asahara claimed salvation from this destruction for those who
reached higher levels of consciousness by going through him, the Supreme Master ; their reincarnated
states would hold a special status amongst others. Apparently, this Armageddon was going to involve a
third world war in 1997 that would be initiated between Japan and the United States; one supposed
goal of Aum Shinrikyo was their involved their salvation activities during this time and the revival of
the Japanese nation after the collapse of their country. Members of Aum Shinrikyo were also very anti
Semitic, and put part of the blame for this onto the Jews (fas.org). Putting the skeptical claims of
extrasensory experiences aside for now, the beliefs of Aum Shinrikyo concerning the Bible,

Literary Devices In The Snows Of Mount Kilimanjaro
The story, The Snows of Mount Kilimanjaro, by Ernest Hemingway opens up with a description of
Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa (Downie 1). The mountain
is said to be where God resides, high up on the mountain. Different themes like relationships and
death flood the story. It starts with the main character Harry, and his wife stranded on the mountain.
Hemmingway utilizes different literary devices to bring out these themes, with the main character
facing his last moments alive. The story is full of powerful literary devices. However, it mostly
portrays symbolism and flashback. Symbolism is the main literary device that Hemingway uses
throughout the story. Animal symbolism is dominant as it is what the author uses at the beginning of
the story. In a short prologue at the beginning, Hemingway talks of a leopard carcass at the summit of
the mountain. He says, Close to the Western summit there is the dried and frozen carcass of a leopard,
(Hemingway 1). The readers may find it difficult to explain how a leopard found its way up the
mountain and what exactly it was doing wandering so high up at the summit. Hemingway uses the
leopard to symbolize power, courage, and uttermost strength, which are characters Harry had as a
young man. He hopes that he will regain these characters someday. He aspires to go back to his old
ways where he was profound and of good character during his youth, rather than the character he had
developed. While both

Robert Frost Archetypes
starting off the author of frost, M.P. kozlowsky uses the protagonist s character archetype of the
innocent, to surprise the reader by having her defy her archetype norms. At the start of the book we, as
a reader, are already able to tell she is the innocent due to her need for happiness, and desire for love.
But as quickly as we come to realize her personality she defies expectations for an innocent, by
standing up to authority, because she wants to save romes, her broot. Frost and romes had been
through so much together. When they were hungry, he brought them small rats to eat not counting the
times he caught robotic creatures that roamed through the building.he curled up in her lap every time
the earth shook; he licked her face whenever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s where she has to go. There were people living there, she was sure of it. People who had created
real lives for themselves there. People who would be able to help her and romes It s time to leave she
told bunt, breaking from her reverie Is there something you need? Something i forgot? No im not
sending you out bunt. We re all going together That would be a poor decision. There are far too many
dangers out there, and your broot is nearly dead. Thats why were going she said, already gathering up
her supplies for the trip we re going to save him. That is an impossibility it isn t. There are ways.
Humans are capable of great things, bunt... The person she is talking to, is bunt. He serves as a
caretaker of her, and brings her food, but more than that he is a robot.he thinks logically and without
emotion, which makes this scene even better evidence. He is saying there is no way to survive out
there but she doesn t care. She goes anyway, standing up to authority, believing in the power of herself
and defying all odds.this shows the author s use of character archetypes because the innocent is
usually very reserved. They don t like conflict and are all around less intense. But frost stood up to
bunt, she said she was going regardless of what he says..making the reader feel surprised by the fact
that the innocent is taking

Gathering Blue Essay
Have you ever thought about what it would be like not to be free? What would it be like not to be able
to make choices? What would it be like not to be able to do what you want? It s scary to think about
not being free, but even in the world today some people don t even have basic human freedoms. Lois
Lowry shows us in her books The Giver and Gathering Blue what it would be like not to have freedom
and how important it is that we have it.
Kira, a two syllable or teenage girl also a character in the book Gathering Blue, is living with her
mother in a small village. After her mother dies from a mysterious disease, Kira is left orphaned and

In the beginning of the Gathering, Kira hears a clanking noise and can t figure out what it is. She
dismisses it from her mind for the most part and focuses on the singer. At the end of the song, she
notices the sound again and this time sees what it is as the singer picks up the bottom of his robe and
walks down the stairs of the stage. She is horrified by the sight of the man s bare, grotesque feet and
ankles. He has big ankle cuffs and a huge chain dragging behind him. Kira is so surprised that she
thinks for a minute she could have imagined it, but as she sees the fresh trail of blood the singer leaves
behind as he walks inside, she knows she hasn t. When she realizes suddenly and with clarity what it
all meant, (p. 211) she sees that she is not as free as she thought she was in her new life.
Kira also starts to question her freedom when she and Thomas go downstairs to visit the little girl Jo.
Jo is a little tyke who is also and orphan like Kira and Thomas but has an amazing voice. She is being
locked in a room all by herself and forced to learn songs. All she wants is to sing her own songs, but
the Council of Guardians won t let her. Kira starts to see what Jo is going through. All the nice things,
the food, and the comforts are not worth it if she has to give up the freedom she had to weave what she
wants. Kira goes back to her room and cries wishing she could give this all up

American West Art
On Tuesday we took a trip to the Chrysler Museum to view the Branding the American West exhibit.
In this exhibit it had a wide selection of Art types which we had a guide take us around to view them.
While I was there I was surprised to see a more variety of art than I thought I would see. I saw
television art that was made by a Korean man, A glass hamburger with fries and a Pepsi; this one was
the most interesting to me because I had never seen art like that in my life. Another cool thing is that
most of the art here at the exhibit had descriptions by them to let you know what the art means and
who the artist were. However, their is one piece of art that I liked the most and that one is the Pima
Basket. in this work of art you see a Native American woman making bowls and a fire where she
makes the pot a solid so they are able to use it for their needs. It also shows the respect that the White
painter has toward the Native American culture. What this work of art suggest about the American
West as a place was that it was a diverse group of people who lived there. Native Americans, Settlers
and many others. This painting also shows the amount of respect that the people on the west coast had
for each other. As a brand the American west represented a more unified part of ... Show more content

art raise for me about the time period of the American West are what more many different art styles

Contributions Of Ferdinand De Sassure
1. INTRODUCTION
Language is an important part of human society and plays a large role in the social process of
communications. Many approaches have been undertaken into the study and analysis. The different
stages of these studies have led to the advent of modern linguistics. This essay will focus of the
contributions of Ferdinand de Sassure to the development of modern linguistics. It will focus on a few
of the key concepts discussed and introduced by Sassure including structuralism and signs, which
contributed to the development of modern linguistics.
2. DEFINITION OF LINGUISTICS
Ferdinand de Sassure defined the scope and aims of what is known as modern linguistics as describing
all known languages and recording their history through tracing ... Show more content on

The sound concept may be replaced instead by the signifier; the sound pattern or word that represents
or refers to the concept and the signified; the concept that is represented by sound pattern or word. The
signifier and the signified will then form the sign. For example, the concept of a key can be
represented by signifiers in different languages. In the English language, the object used to open locks
and other enclosures is represented by the signifier key . In French, the same concept or signified is
represented by the signifier la clef .
4. CONCLUSION
Ferdinand de Saussure s ideas laid a significant foundation for modern linguistics. His idea of making
the language structure the central focus of linguistics enables linguists to break up a language into
interconnected parts and analyse them individually. It also highlights the relationship between a
language and the individuals that utilise the language, a vice versa. He also explained the relationship
between sounds and utterances in a language and what they represent through semiology.
Understanding Sassure s ideas are an indispensable tool in understanding the mechanisms of modern

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bldc Motor
Abstract: A dc Brushless Motor uses a permanent magnet external rotor, three phases of driving coils,
one or more Hall Effect devices to sense the position of the rotor, and the associated drive electronics.
The coils are activated, one phase after the other, by the drive electronics as cued by the signals from
the Hall effect sensors, they act as three phase synchronous motors containing their own variable
frequency drive electronics. A simplified current controlled modulation technique for BLDC motors is
presented. The advantages of this strategy are: 1. Very simple control scheme. 2. Phase currents are
kept balanced. 3. The current is controlled through only one DC component 1.1 Brush Less Dc Motor:

In an outer rotor style, the windings are situated within the core of the motor. The rotor magnets
surround the stator coil windings as shown here. The rotor magnets act as an dielectric, thereby
reducing the speed of heat dissipation from the motor. Because of the situation of the stator coil
windings, outer rotor styles usually operate at lower duty cycles or at a lower rated current. The first
advantage of an outer rotor BLDC motor is comparatively low cogging force. In an inner rotor style,
the stator coil windings surround the rotor and are mounted to the motor s housing as shown here. The
first advantage of an inner rotor construction is its ability to dissipate heat. A motor s ability to
dissipate heat directly impacts its ability to provide force. For this reason, the overwhelming majority
of BLDC motors use an inner rotor style. Another advantage of an inner rotor style is lower rotor
inertia. Advantages: High Speed Operation A BLDC motor can operate at speeds approximately ten
thousand revolutions per minute under loaded and unloaded conditions. Responsiveness Inner rotor
Brushless DC motors have low rotor inertia, allowing them to accelerate, decelerate, and reverse

Summary Of The Short Story Caged
Silencing and isolating people has always been, andSilencing and isolating people has always been,
and still continues to be a way to conserve normalities in a society. It minimizes the fear that an
outsider may change the typical mindset and values a person is brought up to have within a society. In
the short story Caged by an unknown author, the elders of the village imprisoned Charity for breaking
the rules of the village in hopes that the other women of the village could learn from her mistakes and
would not follow her footsteps. Charity s imprisonment failed to be the example that the elder s were

With time, the women started to acknowledge Charity less and less to the point that she was merely a
woman behind a fence. They no longer considered the reasons of her being in that fence or the
punishments that came with Charity breaking the village rules.
For Constance, unlike the other women, it does not take her time to overlook the men s reasons and
lessons for segregating Charity. It was against the elder s rules for anyone to help Charity and Charity
was aware of that as well She knew her friend was risking grave punishment just by talking to her (5).
Not only did Constance overlook it from the beginning, but she also continued to secretly provide
necessities for Charity and accompany her at times.
The way that Charity is isolated in Caged symbolizes how females are silenced in the modern world
today so that their ideas do not overpower the standard way of life, often involving male dominance. A
lot of the time, it seems as if the isolating and silencing has been successful but that is not the case for
many circumstances. As women are silenced, it often leads to ignorance from those that oppose
feminism, as shown by both the men and the women in the short story. From Constance, being
someone who supports Charity, there is rebellion. This is shown in the outside world as those are
support feminism, where there is also rebellion. Ignorance and rebellion are not a sign of success, but
are in fact a sign of failure as it also disrupts social norms.

Henrietta Cell Abstraction
Merriam Webster defines an abstraction as a general idea or quality rather than an actual person.
Humans are immensely complex creatures who cannot be confined to stereotypes, classifications or
labels. Each person is equipped with their own set of traits, talents and capabilities that make them
who they are. Viewing a person as simply an abstraction restricts them to a category stating who and
what they are allowed to be effectively taking away the uniqueness each and every person has a right

Liver Cirrhosis Research Paper
Liver Cirrhosis The liver is the second largest organ of the body and is located on the upper right side
of the abdomen where it is protected by the rib cage. A healthy liver is essential for the functioning of
the digestive system. It has the ability to repair and replace injured tissue however unmanaged liver
diseases can cause irreversible damage to the liver. This results in liver cirrhosis which the end or the
last of the four stages of liver disease. Some of the important functions of the liver are, to produce bile

Psychedelia
Psychedelia is defined as music that is based on the experience that is produced by psychedelic drugs.
It started in the 1960 s in the United States. The main drug was LSD and it was said to enhance the
music. One of the major promotors of the drug was Timothy Leary. He was a professor at Harvard. He
was so famous for this that there was even a song about him. This time in music was one of the most
changing for the future of music in history. There were many different things that changed in many of
the way songs were created. One of the most noticeable songs like this is a Beach Boys song. Good
Vibrations was created by the genius mind of Brain Wilson. The song was supposed to be on the
album Pet Sounds . Wilson wanted the song to be perfect so it did not make it on the album. So perfect
in fact that they recorded the song for seven months and at the time it cost almost $400,000. It was the
record at the time for most money spent on a single. The song was made with very different sounds
that had never been used in music before. The other thing that is so different from any other song is
that there are three parts of the songs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

star because after he performed he sprayed his guitar in lighter fluid and caught it on fire. It was all

It Is Hard to Possess a Sense of Belonging When We Are...
The journey in finding our identity and belonging can often be a struggle, since we ask ourselves, who
am I vs. whom do others want me to be? And where do I belong? This point in our live is subjective,
because we want to feel accepted in society we deny ourselves of what we really are. It s hard to have
a sense of belonging when we ourselves are unsure of our own identity. There comes a time where our
opinions and beliefs are differentiated from those around us, during this time some people may
discover where they belong, where as many others do not. We are all different in our own ways no one

Historical Development Of Haute Couture
This essay will be considering the historical development of haute couture by analysing Charles
Frederick Worth s (father of haute couture) key factors in the success of haute Couture. I will then
discuss Coco Chanel s thriving impact on haute couture as well as ready to wear caused by the second
world war. Saint Laurent s drift to ready to wear and the high street fashion system will also be
discussed in order to answer if haute couture is relevant in fashion today. The books I will be
analysing and referencing are A Cultural History of Fashion in the 20th Century by Bonnie English,
Couture by Ruth Lynam, How Fashion Works by Gavin Waddell. Which will thoroughly breakdown
the evolution and historical development of fashion by cultural, economic, environmental and social
changes to finally come into a conclusion.
The attraction to Englishman Charles Frederick Worth s garments caused by royalty was the origin to
the relevance and recognition of haute Couture in the 19th Century. Ruth Lynam, editor of Couture
concludes the growth of Worth s wealth, she states: The princess was the instrument of good fortune
for Charles Worth... (Lynam, 1972:54) What Lynam seems to be stating is the pecuniary advantage the
Princess Pauline de Metternich supported with her admiration for his creations. The promotion of his
designs are partly owed to the princess however without the recognition perhaps haute couture wouldn
t have been relevant or would not have been as effective. The

2500 Years Of War Summary
Introduction
...Marketing warfare will provide a strategic model for company survival in the 21st century...
The authors main aim in publishing this text was to bring to the forefront the aggressive behaviours
displayed in the marketing process of a firm in order to keep their brand and company number one in a
competitive industry. In addition, they wanted to show how the principles used in warfare are the same
as that used in marketing. As a result, firms could look at different tactics used in war and apply it to
their organization.

Deadlines are often missed and a company often loses credibility in the eyes of the public.
Ries and Trout believe that it is strategy that determines success not hard work. In marketing, a firm
will achieve success through a smarter strategy and not by doing more paperwork and spending longer
time in meetings.
The nature of the battleground
This section addresses the importance of where marketing battles are fought in the minds of the
consumer.
Like any battle, the terrain must be carefully studied and analyzed for its defensive and offensive
possibilities. The enemy s position must also be carefully examined, taking note of strengths and
weaknesses.
In marketing warfare what you are trying to find out is who holds the higher ground. This would give
you an advantage over your competitors.
In a military war, hills and mountains represent strong positions and are used to present a strong
defence. In comparison to a marketing warfare, management refers to strong positions as high ground.
When a customer uses a brand name in place of generic, this shows who holds mountain in their mind.
An example of this in the book is when consumers label all tissues as Kleenex.
Mountains are segmented and competitors may launch different brands each targeting a specific
segment. Today, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Buick each own different segments of the
automobile market.

The Banking Concept Of Education Summary
The banking concept of education is a short essay written by Paulo Freire, which describes his views
on inadequate education. The banking concept of education and the problem posing education method
are two teaching methods Freire uses to explain the differences between what is inadequate teaching
and what is not. The banking concept of education is a method of teaching education to students as if
they are depositories and the teacher is the depositor. Students only receive the information from the
teacher to memorize and report. The problem posing education method involves a combination of the
teacher teaching the student and the student teaching the teacher through dialogue. This makes the
classroom environment more interactive. Freire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When referring to the banking concept of education, Freire wrote Knowledge is a gift bestowed by
those who consider themselves knowledgeable upon those whom they consider to know nothing . This
means the teacher knows everything and the student knows nothing. For the problem posing education
method, Freire wrote that it affirms men and women as being in the process of becoming as
unfinished, uncompleted beings in and with likewise unfinished reality. The unfinished character of
reality necessitates that education be an ongoing activity . Freire urges to move away the traditional
education system and use alternative education methods like the problem posing method so students

Immigration And Racial Diversity In Canada
Immigration and racial diversity have always been an important notion of the Canadian identity.
Historically, matters pertaining to the aforementioned topics have been dealt solely at the Federal
level. The article aims primarily to evaluate three notions that may affect how immigration and racial
minorities are viewed by the native born white Canadian population at a provincial level. Borrowed
from the Canadian Election Studies, data collected over a twenty year period,1988 2008, is utilized to
determine if the economy, demographic, and culture impacts the native white Canadian attitude
towards said non native groups in the respective provinces. (Bilodeau,Turgeon,Karakoc, 581)
In brief, the article s strengths and weaknesses both revolve around data collection. On one hand,
graphic representation of the findings support the author s thesis, provides a strong visual
understanding and a conclusive response to the presented hypotheses. Nevertheless, the continuous
mention, from the author, of limited available data suggests that the presented evidence may be
flawed. (1, 601) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is assumed that provinces suffering from weaker economies, those with a large intake of immigrants

the status quo in terms of immigrants in their province. (2, 585) It s worth mentioning, that the
Canadian provinces, unlike European countries, who have displayed increasingly negative views
towards immigration and racial minorities over the last two decades, show no evidence of a backlash.
However, there is no explicit explanation for this phenomenon.(1,

The Holderness Coastline Essay examples
The Holderness Coastline
The infamous Holderness Coastline is located on the East coast of Yorkshire, stretching from
Flamborough Head to Spurn Point. In the last 2000 years the coastline has retreated by almost 400m
and since Roman times over 28 villages have disappeared into the sea between Bridlington and Spurn
Head. About a million years ago the Yorkshire coastline was a line of chalk cliffs almost 32km west of
where it now is. During the Ice Age deposits of soft boulder clay were built up against these cliffs to
form the new coastline. It is this soft sand and clay which is easily eroded by the action of waves, as
the ocean slowly claims back the region it used to occupy.

This is evident at both Great Cowden and Easington.
The Holderness Coastline is also extremely exposed with little protection. The original coastline
before the ice age consisted mainly of chalk, and is still present today at Flamborough Head where a
headland has formed as chalk is much more resistant to coastal erosion than the boulder clay. This
outcrop of land provides some shelter, although it is minimal, as the stretch of coastline down to Spurn
Head is over 50km long, most experiencing almost head on dominant waves. The coastline is also
exposed to strong North/North East winds, which co enside with a rather generous fetch. Destructive
waves are a result, which erode the beaches and attack the foot of the cliffs, removing masses of clay
in suspension, resulting in strong marine erosion.
The material eroded and transported elsewhere results in little material left to form beaches, which act
as a barrier to protect the cliff line from tides, currents and storms, therefore the sea s processed are
able to keep cutting back the cliff line.
The weather also has a large influence. Often there are winter storm surges producing higher waves,
and higher sea levels, meaning higher energy erosion. In addition is increased sub aerial denudation
brought about by the heavy rain and strong winds. This often leads to increased slumping and

Porter s Five Force Competition Analysis
Porter s five force competition analysis
Michael Porter developed the five force competition which is applicable to all the industries across the
globe. This model assumes that there are five forces that determine the competition facing an industry.
The tool is powerful in understanding where competition lies in current industry situation. The model
below describes the five force competition. The carbonated soft drink industry is highly competitive in
all countries with Coca Cola and Pepsi having almost 70% market share of the world. The quickly
developing nature of the Chinese carbonated soft drinks market has given the aggressive scene a
significant help. All areas developed somewhere around 1999 and 2003, and despite the fact that
development in a few segments is backing off, especially in the carbonates area, there are a
considerable measure of chances for organizations to help their pieces of the pie by spreading into
developing areas. The five force competition model enables us to analyze the competition faced by the
industry in a market.
Threat of new entrants: The soft drink industry is highly competitive. The barrier to entry is relatively
low for a new comer with a single beverage but the established players like Coca Cola and China, who
with their experience have achieved economies of scale. Huge capital investments are required to
create a brand awareness among the consumers, though the process of bottling, distribution and
storage could be outsourced. The

America s Fear Of Crime
America s fear of crime has developed an incarceration binge that has resulted in a disparity in
America s prisons, largely, affecting the underclass; dishonored groups caught in a symbiosis of the
ghetto and prison, meaning, that ghettos have become more like prisons, and so undermined the
inmate society, as such, turned prisons, more like ghettos; hence, developed a state wherein the
criminal justice system is the instrument to control the poor (Wacquant, 2010). Inevitably, societal
isolation, constraints the agency of the poor; their racial isolation develops environments, where
residential instability, family disruption and economic inequality facilitate marginality, unequivocally
deprecating poor minorities life chances. Largely, due to socioeconomic forces and manipulation of
institutional arrangements by powerful elites, which in turn, perpetuate the inmate disparity. Thus,
maintains the underclass caste, more succinctly, an American apartheid.
Accordingly, general consensus portrays inner cities (i.e. generally poor black neighborhoods), as the
apparatus of crime. In this view, crime emanates from the poor, and so generates an environment
credible fear that intensifies racism and frantic search for solutions in the form of draconian laws (e.g.,
zero tolerance, War on Drugs policies) that target the underclass and serve to advance formal social
control via prisons. Destitute minorities, disproportionately black and Latino, therefore, are convicted

Gang Violence in Society Essay
What Should Be Done About Gang Violence In Society?
Many people in our society do not think that anything bad will ever happen to them. These people

is usually associated with gangs is the use of drugs. Anglin Hutson of Nation s Cities Weekly, stated
that drug, gang connection is often cited, but many researchers believe this activity is overstated. Most

homicide, and extortion. There has been a link from recent evidence between inner city gang members

how double strand breaks are a huge threat to a cell s, an organisms, stability. Correspondingly, she
described what can cause these breaks; chemical factors, as well as inner cell disruptions during

People liked it because in it s native condition, it could easily be beaten into weapons or tools. Copper
has been one of the most useful metals for over
5000 years. Copper was probably used around 8000 B.C by people living along the

Lamps are also attached to these helmets in case some of the lighting in the mine goes out leaving a
miner stranded in the dark. One of the biggest problems with mining is that in some places dangerous
gas s may exist, like Carbon Monoxide. In the past we had very cruel and inhuman ways to detect
harmful gases. One of these ways was the use of canaries. Miners would let them fly into a part of the
mine where a poison gas was suspected. If there was a harmful gas, the bird would fall over dead at
the first scent of the gas. Today, we have better ways to detect gases without having animals die. We
now have detection machines in all parts of mines. Mines also have top of the line fire alarms and
water systems. If a flammable gas ignites, like sulfur, the fire may not die for years, which results in
closing the mine. Another problem miners complain about are the rats. Mines will often have mine
cats that hunt out the rats. These cats are well fed and petted by most of the miners.

Human Trafficking Is The Modern Slavery
When forced into sex trafficking statistics state that 67 percent of prisoners are forced into labor, 55
percent are women and girls, and 26 percent are children that endure the conditions and harshness of
this generation s modern slavery. Human trafficking is the modern slavery throughout the globe and
27,000 cases have been reported to the NHTRC hotline in the last eight years alone (Human
Trafficking). Human trafficking is of all ages, all genders, and anyone can be forced into the labor.
There are some movies that shine light on this topic, Taken for example seems to be one of the closest
movies to the ongoings of sex trafficking. Two women were taken from their vacation and one of the
girls fathers goes after her and tries to track her down. We saw from the beginning how the young
man, who was to abduct them, was able to learn where they lived, that they were tourist, and that they
were alone with a whole floor to themselves. It was an easy catch and the two ladies did not even
know what they had done by sprouting what they thought was harmless information. Women are seen
as weak and property, we can see this through out social media, even though there is talk of equality
amongst men and women in this generation it is clear that women are mere objects amongst a large
group of men.

For the square prism I had to find make it hold 0.5KL which is the same as 0.5m3. I made the length
of the prism 1.5 and the Hight 1.5 but I needed to find the width so I put it as A. The equation is 0.5m3
= 1.5x1.5xA so I took the a out and it equals 2.25. Which made the equation 0.5m3 =2.25xA. I then
divide 2.25 by 2.25 and it cancelled out but what you do to one side you do to the other so 0.5 divided
by 2.25 = 0.22 which gave me the answer for a. In The equation I can now put 0.22 for a and then it
would be, 1.15x1.15x0.22 = 0.495cm. Now for the square prism its basically the exact same but with
the different measurements. Volume=LxWxH, the length is 2.5cm, the width is 2.2cm but we don t
know what the hight is. We need to fill 0.5m3, I don t know a so I take it out and then it becomes
2.5x2.2 and that equals 5.5, so then we can do 0.5=5.5xA and if I divide 5.5x5.5 it cancels out and if
you divide one side you divide the other so it would be 0.5 divided by 5.5 = 0.09. So we can now go
to the equation and but the answer in, 2.5x2.2x0.09=0.495. I think the square would be better for a
water feature because it would fit better and not be as wide, it would also be a good size, if I chose the
rectangular prism it would be a lot wider and longer but not that tall which is pretty annoying I chose
the square because it would be the easiest to build and it would be easier to get the measurements but
a circle would be super hard. For my part b I have chosen the square prism because it would fit better,
be easier to get measurements and it would be taller that

Traditional definitions of language have often categorised creative activity in the canonical literary

language to the work of the novelist or poet. It is a well argued point that the seeds of such literary
language reside in what may be described, as the mundane, practical uses of everyday talk and
writing. This shift in opinion and approach to language study may be largely attributed to the work of
Mikhail Bakhtin, who developed a social theory of language. Bakhtin s main argument was that there

Bakhtin would argue that it is exactly this responsive and addressive, dialogic nature of interaction
and communication that stimulates creativity in language use, affecting the form and meaning on all
levels. (2006) With this in mind, it may seem surprising that this can also be exemplified in what is
ordinarily considered to be the very private activity of keeping a diary or journal. Many diaries draw
considerably on literary uses of language, such as parallelism, metaphor, rhythm and imagery. Janet
Maybin (2006) explains that this use of language may help to express strong emotions in a way that
more prosaic language could not communicate as effectively. Maybin relates diary writing to identity
work, the literacy process ..providing a kind of backstage for the self, or a launching pad for an
improved self.. .(Maybin, 2006, p.264) She highlights that whilst at one level diaries provide scope for
very personal and intimate thoughts, in the writings of a diary .. there is always [..] a sense of

Introduction
This paper will explore issues Mattel, U.S. toymaker faced when it decided to opens its door in China.
The store was designed to cater to young girls who may be interested in purchasing Barbie doll
clothing and accessories. The flagship store had to close its doors in two years, because of global
cultural issues that hadn t be well thought out. This paper will discuss those issues and it present some
solutions on how Mattel can be successful in the Chinese consumer market.
Problems Mattel Faced In 2009, Mattel, one of the world s largest toy maker, opened its flagship
Barbie Store in Shanghai, China. Mattel invested over $30 million in the House of Barbie that
eventually closed its doors in two years. Gar Crispell, general manager of Barbie Shanghai, pointed
out a few mistakes the toy giant failed to realize. In China, the doll doesn t represent any cultural
meaning for Chinese girls or young women. Barbie would be better received the doll was presented in
a way that it would inspire Chinese girls. One problem with Barbie is that not enough people in China
new who she was, unlike in other countries where generation of women grew up with Barbie dolls.
The Shanghai Barbie store was not easily accessible, with no parking spaces and it was not near the

Four Types Of Mayfly s Adaption
Suction: the force that, by a pressure differential, attracts a substance or object to the region of lower
pressure. Adaption 5 There are four different types of mayfly s: the swimmers, the clingers, the
burrowers, and the crawlers. All of these different types of mayfly s have physical adaptations on their
body to help them do the thing they were designed to do. This is an important adaptation because no
matter if it s swimming, clinging, crawling, or burrowing, all mayflies depend on the thing they re
good at to get food, hide, get away from predators, and thrive. The mayfly nymphs that depend on
swimming to live have flat body s and strong legs spread out from each side. Having a flat body help s
reduce the power of the stream and strong legs help push the mayfly forward when it swims. These
adaptations allow swimming mayfly s to fight against the water s current and move freely even in the
swiftest streams. Being fast in the water can also help these mayfly nymphs to escape from predators.
Some mayfly nymph species that are good at swimming are Baetis, Acentrella, and Isonychia
mayflies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end of each leg there is a claw that hooks onto the object that a mayfly is clinging to. The
clinging mayfly s in faster currents have more thick and short claws, which strongly clamp on the
submerged object they re hanging on. Other clinging mayflies like the genus Rhithrogena have
adapted further to water conditions and have claws like suction cups. These claws and strong legs help
mayfly s that cling to stay put in fast moving waters. Species of clinging mayfly nymphs include

Global Distribution And Balance Of Power
Every country differs in economic wealth, military might and political power. As one will soon see,
this is not a universally agreeable proposition, but the United States is observed by some as the world
s sole superpower since the conclusion of the Cold War. Below, there will be an exploration of the
literature on the global distribution and balance of power. Then, there will be an examination of the
most stable global distribution. Additionally, the United States ideal strategy to keep its military
superiority will be examined.
Since the conclusion of the Cold War and the subsequent dissolution of the Soviet Union, America is
the world s sole superpower. Militaristic option to try to balance the United States seems to be off the

Pape blames President George W. Bush s unilateral action in several fronts for making it possible for
other nations to balance the United States. The United States did not face balancing because of
America s reputation of being a team player in the world stage. Per Pape that reputation no longer
exists. As a matter of a fact, Pape believes that soft balancing is currently in the works and as an
evidence for his hypothesis, he mentioned the Iraq war and the resistance of some of our supposedly
staunchest allies such as France to essentially not go along with the United States plan at least initially.
There is a very legitimate fear that unless the United States changes its unilateralism, soft balancing
will continue to occur. (Pape, 2005)
Stephen M. Walt believes that although the United States is still strong, our influence over the world
has declined. Mr. Walt predicted China will be the largest economy by 2025. One could argue this has
already happened in terms of GDP. Countries such as India, Turkey, and Brazil are not yet ready to
challenge the United States economically, but, within their own geographical region, they are
becoming regional powers. Mr. Walt conceded that the United States will still be the most powerful
country in the world, but the world will be a bipolar system, adding China as the other superpower in
addition to the United States or perhaps the world will become a multipolar system with

Essay On Iron Jawed Angels
Iron Jawed Angels While watching the movie Iron Jawed Angels produced by Akatja Von Garnier, I
experienced many emotions. I felt that this movie was incredibly moving and eye opening. Some of
the obstacles faced by the women in the film that particularly stood out, I will discuss throughout my
response paper. The main obstacle the women faced was not having the right to vote. This was
something Alice Paul and the rest of the suffragists fought so strongly for throughout the entire film.
Women fighting for their right to vote meant standing outside of the White House picketing in any
type of weather, being degraded by most men (including those who were in power), being spit on, and
being abused mentally and physically. Standing up for the rights of women to most were seen as a
joke and even women looked at Alice Paul as if she was crazy. What I see as crazy is the fact that the
right for women to vote was ever questioned? It is still a mind boggling piece of history, but is every
influential. What surprised me the most was how Alice and her friends were treated while being
retained for 60 days. The way they were pushed, forced fed, unable to see family or friends, denied by

discontinued her account so that she was unable to donate any more money. That didn t stop her, she
continued with attending the suffrage trial which he also, disagreed with. I wonder how it would feel
for your own husband to not support you for fighting for your right to vote? What her husband made

The Usage Of Proper English
1.) I think it is important to strive for both the usage of proper English and to present good ideas as a
criteria for academic papers or in an academic setting. The reason I am convinced that usage of proper
English creates clearer communication is because of my experience in the business world. Through
schooling I have learned how to speak and write better and use words that pertain to the business I
practiced. I have worked in the teaching profession and have experienced what happens when a parent
does not have a clear idea of the educational goals the teach and school has for their child, or the
overall goals that the particular school holds as valuable. I taught in a Montessori School and
Montessori has a particular educational model that each school follows to a certain degree. It is the
owner s prerogative to determine how closely they follow the Montessori Method. Therefore, as a
parent there are several things to be concerned with. 1.) What model did Maria Montessori use? 2.) To
what degree does the school follow the Montessori Method. 3.) Do I understand and agree with the
educational process 4.) What are the goals the Montessori teacher is setting for my child? Therefore,
clear communication is essential in business. .As stated in the article by Exforsys. Why Speaking
Proper English is Important for Your Career. June.6,2007 A number of studies have consistently
demonstrated that those who have an advanced knowledge of the English language are much more

The Male Superiority Of The Age
Paternal superiority has always been an important factor in society. Paternal superiority is when the
male is the dominant character and feels like he has the upper hand compared to anyone, especially
females. Males often feel like they are the dominant sex because they are assumed to be stronger than
females. Since the formation of organized society, males have been in charge. Males also do not have
the same standard way of acting in society. In history, men have always had more freedom than
women have. This has made women seem like they are not as important as the males. This is how
society has been brought up; the males have continually been in control. Although the modern reader
can infer that Bronte was exaggerating male authority, she is actually reflecting the time period of the
Victorian Era.
Bronte uses several characters to exemplify the male superiority of the age. One character that
portrays the dominance in that time is Edgar. At first glance, anyone would think that Edgar is a well
dressed rich boy who is pampered and does not have to worry about a single thing. Reading further
into the book, one may notice that he assumes a more dominant attitude towards a few people
especially Catherine. He has the audacity to say that she cannot be friends with Heathcliff as well as
Edgar, so she has to choose who she wants to stay with. Edgar is acting jealously and does not want to
share Catherine with Heathcliff; he is afraid that Heathcliff will in some way steal

My Favorite School Field Trip
Some people wouldn t think school could be fun. All that we do is learn. All field trips we go on are
just educational and boring. Well some might be, but many can be fun. You would never think
somewhere you ve always wanted to go to would be your next field trip. Somewhere really fun. I have
thought plenty of times in the past that I didn t want to go on the trip it was boring, but I was wrong
and this is why.
My first favorite school memory was in eighth grade. I was in chorus and we were going on a trip to
Massachusetts with the band for a competition. I was super excited and couldn t wait to sell all of my
tickets. When the day finally came I was so excited. We rode in a coach bus which was really cool
because I ve never been in one before. When we arrived in Massachusetts we headed over to where
we were having the competition. The competition was being held at a really big school. We performed
and sounded really good. I was super nervous I didn t want to mess up since I had never done that
before.
When we were finally done the competition we got our award handed to us and our tickets to get into
Six Flags. We left the school and head off on our journey to Agawam, Massachusetts where Six Flags
was located. As we got closer and closer there were flags on the side of the road leading us there and
my anticipation grew even stronger. I couldn t wait to get there.
Once we finally arrived everyone couldn t wait to get off the bus and have some fun. I was really
excited. We got off the bus and had a really long walk to get into the park. There were no close
parking spaces for the bus so we had to go all the way to the back parking lot and walk up to the
entrance. Once I walked into the park it was so much bigger than any I expected. All the roller
coasters were huge. I didn t get to go on any because everyone would ask me to hold their stuff but a
couple things I did go on were the bumper cars, a water slide, a boat ride and I played some mini
games. Those were fun enough for me but if I ever go back again I am going to try the roller coasters.
The water slide was really fun. All you had to do was go up a ramp inside a tube and the ramp would
push you down the slide while water was being splashed at

Chapter Notes On Holden s Life
1. Chapter 1 Quote: What I was really hanging around for, I was trying to feel some kind of a good by.
I mean I ve left schools and places I didn t even know I was leaving them. I hate that. I don t care if it
s a sad good by or a bad good by, but when I leave a place I like to know I m leaving it. If you don t,
you feel even worse (Salinger 4). 1.Chapter 1 Quote Explanation: 2. Chapter 2 Question: Holden
understands that life is game and that one must play by the rules, but why does he determine it not by
winning or losing but by who he s playing with? 2.Chapter 2 Question Explanation: When Holden is
told by old Spencer that life is a game and that he must play by the rules, Holden interprets it not by
winning or losing, but by what team he is playing on. Holden believes his life is hard because of the
relationships he has with certain people. He believes that if these people were not in his life, his life
would be a whole lot easier and simple. 3. Chapter 3 Quote: Like hell it (red hunting hat) is. I took it
off and looked at it. I sort of closed one eye, like I was taking aim at it. This is a people shooting hat, I
said. I shoot people in the hat (Salinger 22). 3.Chapter 3 Quote Explanation: This hat for Holden is
something that makes him different from others. It makes him his own independent person. This hat
gives him uniqueness and individuality. The hat also shows the conflict in the novel because he is self
conscious of it when he is wearing it

Robot And Frank Essay
Robot and Frank is an unpredictable film about a retired man, Frank. The movie is set in the near
future in New York, where everyone uses technology and robots to help them with simple day to day
tasks. The movie starts off with Frank trying to steal from his own home until he sees a picture of
himself with his two children, Hunter and Madison. Hunter and Madison are grown ups living on their
own, but also always trying to check up on Frank. Frank, on the other hand unintentionally causes all
sort of trouble to his children due to his failing memory. So, his son, Hunter presents him with a robot
butler. At first, Frank is irritated with his new robot servant. Over time Frank realizes that the robot is
actually worthwhile. It cleans the house, cooks, tries to keep a set schedule for Frank, wakes him up in
the morning, tries to build Frank s interest in gardening and walks around town with him. In addition,
Franks cognitive condition improves as the robot kept him busy. Not to mention, Frank is a semi
retired burglar, who later trains his robot to help him with his new burglaries. The two keep their
secret planning between themselves until Frank is almost caught and unfortunately has to erase the
robot s memory. The movie ends with Frank living at a nursing home, where, at this point, he is
unable to recognize Hunter. Frank s family comes to visit him and he leaves Hunter with a note
saying, Check the robot s garden under the tomatoes. Have fun kids! Indirectly implying that he hasn t

  • 2. The Garden By William Makepeace Thackeray Analysis The garden straddles the border between the public and the private, the social and the personal, and the city and the country. It is both man made, yet natural; both intimate, yet open. Hence, the garden, as a place of such contradictions, becomes a space for William Makepeace Thackeray to facilitate characters contemplation, pushing the engagement with the dichotomy between nostalgia and progress. It is in the Royal Gardens at Vauxhall where William Dobbin s intense desire for Amelia begins to slowly manifest. As she wanders through the paths of the garden with George Osborne, he becomes distracted by her, ignoring the gardens that surround him: [A]nd as he saw that good looking couple, threading the walks to the girl s delight and wonder, he watched her artless happiness with a sort of fatherly pleasure. Perhaps he felt that he would have liked to have something on his own arm besides a shawl [...] And the truth is, that of all the delights of the Gardens; [...] Captain William Dobbin did not take the slightest notice. (Thackeray 63) This passage, set in a very social engagement it is the evening of an expected proposal sees Dobbin caught in a moment of disengagement of a private longing for Amelia. Thackeray teases Dobbin s desires by suggesting that [p]erhaps he felt that he would have liked to have something on his own arm besides a shawl and going into a lengthy list of all the delights of the Gardens which he ignores (63). Dobbin, in a sense, becomes withdrawn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This literature review is focusing on the methods for recycling waste tyres particularly that of TDF (tyre derived fuels) as well as other methods utilised globally. Currently in Australia approximately 52.5 million waste tyres are produced annually with an estimated 13% being recycled through processes that involve separating the steel and rubber and using the resulting components for various other products or reusing the tyres for a number of construction projects as well as being utilised as a TDF. Currently the tyres that are not recycled are disposed of as inert landfill, referring to the fact that they don t decompose due to the way tyres are designed to be durable to function efficiently. There have been studies conducted by the UK ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alternatively tyres can be recycled through civil engineering projects. These include projects such as paving, erosion control and retaining walls. Tyres utilised in retaining walls are typically a complete tyre that has been separated into halves prior to being filled with aggregate to increase the structural integrity of the tyre before being placed in a number of possible configurations. The tyres, once they are in their final configuration, can then be coated with a number of finishing products, ranging from shotcrete to timber, to give a desired appearance. The construction method of these walls can vary from a gravity supported system, where in the wall retains the earth through the physical weight of the wall itself, to fully reinforced where further reinforcement is used to obtain the desired strength and stability. It is common practice in construction of slabs for residential and commercial buildings to use permanent internal formwork, which is the use of nonconcrete materials to reduce the material costs when pouring the slab. Common practice is to use polystyrene blocks to offset the amount of concrete used however it is possible to utilise tyres in the place of polystyrene blocks furthermore it is possible to use site generated waste that would require to be disposed of using other means. Using tyres in road and paving construction is ideal for use in areas where the existing strata is of too poor quality to meet the required ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Assembling In The Iliad Ethan Medley English 2332 877 Professor Brooks 28 September 2017 Assembling in The Iliad (Holding councils of war or holding assemblies) Every great war in history has been determined, to some extent, by the powerful strategies executed by one party of the war. These strategies , most of the time, are not the brainchild of one individual, but more or less a group of people collaborating toward one strategy effective enough to turn the tides of battle. The most effective way for important leaders to voice their opinions for their next endeavor is achieved through the use of assemblies. Assemblies were very important to the armies in the Trojan War, as both sides had great power, meaning that cunning strategy would be the winning factor for one of the parties involved in the Trojan War. However, assemblies held during the Trojan War were more one sided toward the authoritative figures rather than a true collaboration between leaders and wise men. These assemblies follow a simple pattern: a leader calls out to the army to form an assembly when he sees it fit; then, the leaders and wise men then collaborate and voice their opinions on the matter at hand; and finally, the figure with the highest authority in the assembly decides what to do next as a result of the assembly. The assembly begins with an important leader calling for one when he sees it fit to form one. For example, an assembly was called by Achilles due to concerns from the plague in Book 1; it was revealed that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Life At The Bottom And Its Vast Environment Life at the bottom The majority of human lives are spent on land. On some occasions people visit the beautiful littoral regions to beige, unwind, and enjoy the cool currents and warm water. Although people are delighted with the surface of the ocean, the depth of Ocean remains a mystery. The average depth of a large body of water, such as the ocean has been recorded to be 12, 500 feet deep. Therefore making the bodies of water nearly occupy a majority of the earth space. Life at the challenger deep (which is the deepest part of the ocean) is still an uncharted subject, myths of magnificent and treacherous animal sightings such as Giant Squids that is also referred to as the Kraken is one of the legendary stories of them all. With the help of oceanographers and the use of computer models, laboratory and field experiments, scientist can piece the puzzle of the mysterious beast and its vast environment. Scientific advances such as the computer models of the earth have brought us to a better understanding about how life on earth operates. According to Ocean services, the study of oceanography is the study of marine life and ecosystems, Ocean circulation, plate tectonics and the geology of the ocean floor. Oceanographers study this aspect of the world to understand how the chemistry of the ocean interacts with our atmosphere and ecosystems. • 7. Why Should Animals Be Treated Animals Animals are treated like non living things by some people. People seem to forget that animals are living beings and that humans are not that different from animals. Humans are classified as animals actually. In my opinion animals should be treated as living individuals, not just soulless robots as Descartes claims them to be. Of course this does not mean that we are supposed to get married with dogs or give them the right to vote. We just have to respect their dignity and stop behaving as if they were created to be our slaves. Animals are capable of complex thoughts just like us. They are not just walking food or cute looking plush toys. They are sentient beings. We interact with them almost every day. So we have several obligations towards them. 27 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people kill animals as a sport. They shoot animals to prove their shooting skills. There is no competition in hunting. Animals cannot win in this so called sport. There is only one thing we can tell to these people. Do your shooting in the shooting range. Animals are not wooden targets people can practice on. They are sentient beings just like us. We must try to convince the hunters around us of the immorality of their acts. If we consider animals as persons, then street animals can be considered as homeless people desperate for help. It is our duty to help them in every way possible. We should put some food and water on our doorsteps for them to consume. We should offer shelter to them in cold winter days. Some people hurt street animals for fun. There are laws that prohibit harming animals but they are not enforced. We should struggle for these laws to be enforced. Next generation should be educated to respect animals. If we start giving proper education about how to behave towards animals in schools, next generations will be a lot more animal friendly than the previous ones. Almost no information on animal rights or animal welfare is given in schools ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In fact, there was a time where Asahara and Aum Shinrikyo members had taken up an attitude similar to that of a humble missionary. However, the Aum Shinrikyo faith, as well as Asahara, had been obsessed with some of the philosophies of the Bible, the Book of Revelation in particular, and had an unfortunate turnaround, which resulted in the religion s currently bad reputation. The religion also holds the claim that Asahara is the only person to have attained the highest level of consciousness and that he is in the state of Nirvana; Asahara even claimed to be Christ. Tibetan beliefs of extrasensory experiences are also included in the Aum Shinrikyo faith, with clairvoyance, levitation, and the ability to see through walls being some of these extrasensory abilities that Asahara promoted and claimed to have (news.bbc.co.uk; fas.org). According to John Pike, the Aum Shinrikyo faith strongly promoted Shiva, the god of destruction, and thus put a particular emphasis on Armageddon, or the end of the world. Asahara claimed salvation from this destruction for those who reached higher levels of consciousness by going through him, the Supreme Master ; their reincarnated states would hold a special status amongst others. Apparently, this Armageddon was going to involve a third world war in 1997 that would be initiated between Japan and the United States; one supposed goal of Aum Shinrikyo was their involved their salvation activities during this time and the revival of the Japanese nation after the collapse of their country. • 10. Literary Devices In The Snows Of Mount Kilimanjaro The story, The Snows of Mount Kilimanjaro, by Ernest Hemingway opens up with a description of Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa (Downie 1). The mountain is said to be where God resides, high up on the mountain. Different themes like relationships and death flood the story. It starts with the main character Harry, and his wife stranded on the mountain. Hemmingway utilizes different literary devices to bring out these themes, with the main character facing his last moments alive. The story is full of powerful literary devices. However, it mostly portrays symbolism and flashback. Symbolism is the main literary device that Hemingway uses throughout the story. Animal symbolism is dominant as it is what the author uses at the beginning of the story. In a short prologue at the beginning, Hemingway talks of a leopard carcass at the summit of the mountain. He says, Close to the Western summit there is the dried and frozen carcass of a leopard, (Hemingway 1). The readers may find it difficult to explain how a leopard found its way up the mountain and what exactly it was doing wandering so high up at the summit. Hemingway uses the leopard to symbolize power, courage, and uttermost strength, which are characters Harry had as a young man. He hopes that he will regain these characters someday. He aspires to go back to his old ways where he was profound and of good character during his youth, rather than the character he had developed. While both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Robert Frost Archetypes starting off the author of frost, M.P. kozlowsky uses the protagonist s character archetype of the innocent, to surprise the reader by having her defy her archetype norms. At the start of the book we, as a reader, are already able to tell she is the innocent due to her need for happiness, and desire for love. But as quickly as we come to realize her personality she defies expectations for an innocent, by standing up to authority, because she wants to save romes, her broot. He is saying there is no way to survive out there but she doesn t care. She goes anyway, standing up to authority, believing in the power of herself and defying all odds.this shows the author s use of character archetypes because the innocent is usually very reserved. Lois Lowry shows us in her books The Giver and Gathering Blue what it would be like not to have freedom and how important it is that we have it. She is horrified by the sight of the man s bare, grotesque feet and ankles. He has big ankle cuffs and a huge chain dragging behind him. Kira is so surprised that she thinks for a minute she could have imagined it, but as she sees the fresh trail of blood the singer leaves behind as he walks inside, she knows she hasn t. When she realizes suddenly and with clarity what it all meant, (p. 211) she sees that she is not as free as she thought she was in her new life. In this exhibit it had a wide selection of Art types which we had a guide take us around to view them. While I was there I was surprised to see a more variety of art than I thought I would see. I saw television art that was made by a Korean man, A glass hamburger with fries and a Pepsi; this one was the most interesting to me because I had never seen art like that in my life. Another cool thing is that most of the art here at the exhibit had descriptions by them to let you know what the art means and who the artist were. However, their is one piece of art that I liked the most and that one is the Pima Basket. in this work of art you see a Native American woman making bowls and a fire where she makes the pot a solid so they are able to use it for their needs. Many approaches have been undertaken into the study and analysis. The different stages of these studies have led to the advent of modern linguistics. This essay will focus of the contributions of Ferdinand de Sassure to the development of modern linguistics. It will focus on a few of the key concepts discussed and introduced by Sassure including structuralism and signs, which contributed to the development of modern linguistics. 2. In the English language, the object used to open locks and other enclosures is represented by the signifier key . In French, the same concept or signified is represented by the signifier la clef . 4. CONCLUSION Ferdinand de Saussure s ideas laid a significant foundation for modern linguistics. His idea of making the language structure the central focus of linguistics enables linguists to break up a language into interconnected parts and analyse them individually. It also highlights the relationship between a language and the individuals that utilise the language, a vice versa. He also explained the relationship between sounds and utterances in a language and what they represent through semiology. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bldc Motor Abstract: A dc Brushless Motor uses a permanent magnet external rotor, three phases of driving coils, one or more Hall Effect devices to sense the position of the rotor, and the associated drive electronics. The coils are activated, one phase after the other, by the drive electronics as cued by the signals from the Hall effect sensors, they act as three phase synchronous motors containing their own variable frequency drive electronics. A simplified current controlled modulation technique for BLDC motors is presented. The advantages of this strategy are: 1. Very simple control scheme. 2. Phase currents are kept balanced. 3. In an outer rotor style, the windings are situated within the core of the motor. The rotor magnets surround the stator coil windings as shown here. The rotor magnets act as an dielectric, thereby reducing the speed of heat dissipation from the motor. Because of the situation of the stator coil windings, outer rotor styles usually operate at lower duty cycles or at a lower rated current. The first advantage of an outer rotor BLDC motor is comparatively low cogging force. In an inner rotor style, the stator coil windings surround the rotor and are mounted to the motor s housing as shown here. The first advantage of an inner rotor construction is its ability to dissipate heat. A motor s ability to dissipate heat directly impacts its ability to provide force. For this reason, the overwhelming majority of BLDC motors use an inner rotor style. Another advantage of an inner rotor style is lower rotor inertia. In the short story Caged by an unknown author, the elders of the village imprisoned Charity for breaking the rules of the village in hopes that the other women of the village could learn from her mistakes and would not follow her footsteps. With time, the women started to acknowledge Charity less and less to the point that she was merely a woman behind a fence. They no longer considered the reasons of her being in that fence or the punishments that came with Charity breaking the village rules. It was against the elder s rules for anyone to help Charity and Charity was aware of that as well She knew her friend was risking grave punishment just by talking to her (5). Not only did Constance overlook it from the beginning, but she also continued to secretly provide necessities for Charity and accompany her at times. The way that Charity is isolated in Caged symbolizes how females are silenced in the modern world today so that their ideas do not overpower the standard way of life, often involving male dominance. A lot of the time, it seems as if the isolating and silencing has been successful but that is not the case for many circumstances. As women are silenced, it often leads to ignorance from those that oppose feminism, as shown by both the men and the women in the short story. From Constance, being someone who supports Charity, there is rebellion. This is shown in the outside world as those are support feminism, where there is also rebellion. The nature of the battleground This section addresses the importance of where marketing battles are fought in the minds of the consumer. Like any battle, the terrain must be carefully studied and analyzed for its defensive and offensive possibilities. The enemy s position must also be carefully examined, taking note of strengths and weaknesses. In marketing warfare what you are trying to find out is who holds the higher ground. This would give you an advantage over your competitors. In a military war, hills and mountains represent strong positions and are used to present a strong defence. In comparison to a marketing warfare, management refers to strong positions as high ground. When a customer uses a brand name in place of generic, this shows who holds mountain in their mind. An example of this in the book is when consumers label all tissues as Kleenex. Mountains are segmented and competitors may launch different brands each targeting a specific segment. Today, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Buick each own different segments of the automobile market.

This outcrop of land provides some shelter, although it is minimal, as the stretch of coastline down to Spurn Head is over 50km long, most experiencing almost head on dominant waves. Porter s Five Force Competition Analysis Porter s five force competition analysis Michael Porter developed the five force competition which is applicable to all the industries across the globe. This model assumes that there are five forces that determine the competition facing an industry. The tool is powerful in understanding where competition lies in current industry situation. The model below describes the five force competition. The carbonated soft drink industry is highly competitive in all countries with Coca Cola and Pepsi having almost 70% market share of the world. The quickly developing nature of the Chinese carbonated soft drinks market has given the aggressive scene a significant help. All areas developed somewhere around 1999 and 2003, and despite the fact that development in a few segments is backing off, especially in the carbonates area, there are a considerable measure of chances for organizations to help their pieces of the pie by spreading into developing areas. The five force competition model enables us to analyze the competition faced by the industry in a market. Threat of new entrants: The soft drink industry is highly competitive. The barrier to entry is relatively low for a new comer with a single beverage but the established players like Coca Cola and China, who with their experience have achieved economies of scale. Double Strand Breaks On September 12, 1016, Belmont University graciously allowed Dr. Katherine Friedman from Vanderbilt University to come and talk to a crowd of students about the tendencies of how deoxyribose double stranded breaks can during cell replication and the elements required to hopefully repair this ordeal. She began the session by discussing what chromosomes are composed of and how they are produced, accompanied by visual and statistical representations. Moving on, she touched on how double strand breaks are a huge threat to a cell s, an organisms, stability. Correspondingly, she described what can cause these breaks; chemical factors, as well as inner cell disruptions during replication that are sometimes hard to remedy. However, she also stated that this breaks can occur on purpose, mostly in the immune system in efforts to make antibodies. Dr. Friedman also explained a few of the consequences of improper or unrepaired DSBs can result in cancer, the loss of heterozygosity, or abnormal gene appearance. One of these ways was the use of canaries. Miners would let them fly into a part of the mine where a poison gas was suspected. If there was a harmful gas, the bird would fall over dead at the first scent of the gas. Today, we have better ways to detect gases without having animals die. We now have detection machines in all parts of mines. Mines also have top of the line fire alarms and water systems. If a flammable gas ignites, like sulfur, the fire may not die for years, which results in closing the mine. Another problem miners complain about are the rats. Mines will often have mine cats that hunt out the rats. These cats are well fed and petted by most of the miners. Most copper is found in seven ores. I made the length of the prism 1.5 and the Hight 1.5 but I needed to find the width so I put it as A. The equation is 0.5m3 = 1.5x1.5xA so I took the a out and it equals 2.25. Which made the equation 0.5m3 =2.25xA. I then divide 2.25 by 2.25 and it cancelled out but what you do to one side you do to the other so 0.5 divided by 2.25 = 0.22 which gave me the answer for a. In The equation I can now put 0.22 for a and then it would be, 1.15x1.15x0.22 = 0.495cm. Now for the square prism its basically the exact same but with the different measurements. Volume=LxWxH, the length is 2.5cm, the width is 2.2cm but we don t know what the hight is. We need to fill 0.5m3, I don t know a so I take it out and then it becomes 2.5x2.2 and that equals 5.5, so then we can do 0.5=5.5xA and if I divide 5.5x5.5 it cancels out and if you divide one side you divide the other so it would be 0.5 divided by 5.5 = 0.09. So we can now go to the equation and but the answer in, 2.5x2.2x0.09=0.495. I think the square would be better for a water feature because it would fit better and not be as wide, it would also be a good size, if I chose the rectangular prism it would be a lot wider and longer but not that tall which is pretty annoying I chose the square because it would be the easiest to build and it would be easier to get the measurements but a circle would be super hard. Traditional definitions of language have often categorised creative activity in the canonical literary uses we see in artistic works. However, contemporary definitions no longer confine creativity with language to the work of the novelist or poet. It is a well argued point that the seeds of such literary language reside in what may be described, as the mundane, practical uses of everyday talk and writing. Adaption 5 There are four different types of mayfly s: the swimmers, the clingers, the burrowers, and the crawlers. All of these different types of mayfly s have physical adaptations on their body to help them do the thing they were designed to do. This is an important adaptation because no matter if it s swimming, clinging, crawling, or burrowing, all mayflies depend on the thing they re good at to get food, hide, get away from predators, and thrive. The mayfly nymphs that depend on swimming to live have flat body s and strong legs spread out from each side. Having a flat body help s reduce the power of the stream and strong legs help push the mayfly forward when it swims. These adaptations allow swimming mayfly s to fight against the water s current and move freely even in the swiftest streams. The reason I am convinced that usage of proper English creates clearer communication is because of my experience in the business world. Through schooling I have learned how to speak and write better and use words that pertain to the business I practiced. Males also do not have the same standard way of acting in society. In history, men have always had more freedom than women have. This has made women seem like they are not as important as the males. I have thought plenty of times in the past that I didn t want to go on the trip it was boring, but I was wrong and this is why. My first favorite school memory was in eighth grade.
