Comparing Beowulf And Anglo-Saxon Culture
Powerful, courageous, and fearless, stands Beowulf. As devastation enters Herot, Hrothgar has no
other choice but to call for help. After enduring a long journey, Beowulf rises to the challenge to
defend the land. Throughout the story he crosses many paths, and must make critical decisions.
However there are two versions of this story, a movie and a poem that portray different views of
Anglo Saxon culture and today s culture. Although the Beowulf movie and poem share many
similarities, the different portrayals of character personalities, religion, and gender roles reveal the
values of the societies in which they are told.
The first comparison to be made would be the different character personalities among the movie and
poem. In both the poem and the movie, Beowulf is known for his strength, status, and noble birth. He

Christianity and Paganism were both practiced in the Anglo Saxon society. In the movie, Unfurth
mentions praying to the stone gods, reflecting paganism, and to pray to Jesus, representing
Christianity. In the poem there are also many references to both religions. On page 38, line 189, he
says that fate will unwind as it must! when conversing with Hrothgar about his upcoming battle with
Grendel. Saying that was an example of paganism. Evil. Page 43, line 333 states that Grendel would
now realize what it mean to feud with Almighty God . That reference was christian and represented
their battle as good v.s. Evil. In the movie, Beowulf juggles his beliefs switching from christian to
pagan. However, towards the end, in so many words he say the Christian god ruined everything. In
contrast, before Beowulf dies in the poem, he gives all glory to god. Before Beowulf s death, lying
helplessly on the ground, he says For this, this gold, these jewels, I thank Our Father in Heaven, Ruler
of the Earth... . In that statement Beowulf honors God and his

The Economic Crash Of 2008 Changed Everyone s Lives
The Economy shifts all the time and comes back to an equilibrium, but the changes it brings are
permanent. From 2007 to 2009 the united states went through an economic downfall. The economic
crash in 2008 changed everyone s lives. I will be discussing this more on a personal level as in how
people s actual lives changed, rather than discussing the numbers and how the stock market changed.
What happens when the economy crashes and how does this impact people? I will answer this using
the lens that describes the everyday lives of people. What made people realize that the economy was
suffering? People had the same amount of income but the prices of everything around got extremely
high. The things that made a huge impact was the gas prices and loss of jobs. One thing leading to
another, with gas prices so high people weren t even able to reach new job opportunities. ... Show

During the economic crash in 2008 the gas prices were around five Dollars a gallon when two dollars
per gallon would ve been a normal price. How did everyday lives of people change because of this?
Well, many people made permanent changes in their lives because of this. A lot of people sold their
cars and switched to fuel efficient cars and gave up their happiness and satisfaction of driving big
engine SUVs and sports cars. People also reduced driving and relied more on public transportation.
The amount of people on the bus, Bart, and bikes increased rapidly. There was also an increase in
people carpooling and using FastTrack. This led to less people driving but it didn t benefit everyone.
People who were jobless or laid off were not able to go far from home to look for jobs because gas
prices were high and public transportation only covered a certain radius. The people who needed to go

Total Hip Replacement
Total hip replacement or THR is a clinically effective procedure for the treatment of pain and
disability that arises due to the final stage arthritis of the hip. THR is prescribed for the patients who
do not respond to the options that are non surgical, self management, education of the patient, physical
therapy, acupuncture, and exercise. ( Pivec. et.al,2012). Numerous procedures , a range of implant
designs are available and it is the surgeon who has to decide upon as to which type of fixation
technique should be used and which bearing couple should be chosen, component fixation method.
Both cementless and cemented fixation are used currently for THR surgery. The implants of total hip

Artificial Sweeteners And Low Calorie Sweeteners
In the face of an expanding epidemic of overweight and obesity, individuals have increasingly turned
to artificially sweetened (AS) foods and beverages... in an attempt to lose weight, or control it (Fowler
et al. 2008). Because many artificial sweeteners have less calories in them than regular sweeteners
(such as sugar and honey) do, people have turned to these products in order to help decrease their
caloric intake. One of the most effective ways to lose weight is to decrease the caloric intake. Artificial
sweeteners can be found in a variety of products, these days, and are very accessible to consumers.
While many believe that these products can help control and reduce weight, there is evidence
suggesting that artificial sweeteners not only have no effect on weight gain, but may cause weight gain
in certain individuals. This is a highly debated topic in the field of nutrition.
Many researchers believe that artificial sweeteners and low calorie sweeteners can aid in weight
management, however not all researchers agree. Some researchers believe that these sweeteners not
only have no effect on weight management, but can also cause weight gain. There is a tremendous
amount of evidence suggesting that artificial sweeteners aid in weight management. For example, the
study conducted by Blackburn et al. (1997) determined that the addition of the high intensity artificial
sweetener aspartame to a multidisciplinary weight control program would improve weight loss and aid
in the

Hawaii Plantation Workers
Filipino immigrants came to Hawaii in search of better financial opportunities. They were recruited
for new work on Hawaii plantations when the Hawaii Sugar Planters Association began finding cheap
labor. Thousands began flocking to Hawaii for a new, glamorous job in paradise. But did the
immigrants future hold prosperity and happiness? Unfortunately, the reality of working on the
plantation was not what they expected. Work on the plantation was harsh, tedious and hot. The history
of sugar plantations was also known for riots and strikes. This was not the life Filipino immigrants
were expecting.
Filipinos began migrating to Hawaii in 1907 (University of Hawaii, n.d.). By the year 1919, the total
was over 10,000 Filipino immigrants (University ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of a strike, another group would be used as replacement labor to break the strike.
(University of Hawaii, n.d.). Filipinos were used as scab labor to replace the Japanese during the Great

(University of Hawaii, n.d.). The Japanese and Filipinos united in a strike in 1920 which lasted 6
months. (University of Hawaii, n.d.). The strike ended and workers received increased wages,
suppression of wage differentials and even changes in the bonus system (University of Hawaii, n.d.).
Workers took on several forms of resistance such as arson, assault and recalcitrance (University of
Hawaii, n.d.). Ronald Takaki was a man who did another study of Hawaii plantations, he stated that
workers showed work slowdown, laziness and inefficiency. (University of Hawaii, n.d.). Although,
Takaki also noted that fear kept them from even trying resistance (University of Hawaii,

Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Essay
Sexual harassment in the workplace is a very serious problem that must be dealt with effectively.
Sexual harassment is defined as a form of sex discrimination, which is a violation of Title VII of the
Civil Rights Act of 1964. It involves unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and
other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature, especially when submission to this conduct is
made a term or condition of one s employment (Sexual Harassment). However, sexual harassment is
not limited to sexual advances. It also includes the creation of a intimidating, hostile, or offensive
working environment based on one s sex.
Although men also face harassment, women are the most likely victims. Harm caused by sexual

Is it okay to tell off color jokes? What is unwelcome? When is conduct based on sex? Are employees
allowed to flirt on the job? What happens when someone gets offended? Who decides what is
appropriate? Should employees be required to tolerate some behavior but not another? Today, courts
will more likely find an illegal hostile environment present when the workplace includes sexual
propositions, pornography, extremely vulgar language, sexual touching, degrading comments, or
embarrassing questions or jokes. There are many examples of court cases which back this up.
(1) In Hall v. Gus Construction Co., a construction company had hired three woman to work at road
construction sites. Male co workers continually subjected these women to verbal sexual abuse. One
woman even developed a skin reaction to the sun which the men immediately labeled ?Herpes.? The
women often found obscenities written in the dust on their co worker. Male co workers continuously
asked the women for sexual favors. IN addition to the verbal abuse, the women were constantly
subjected to offensive and unwelcome physical contact. On one occasion, the men help up one of the
female employees so that the driver of a truck could touch her. The men subjected all three women to
other types of abuse including ?mooning? them, showing them pornographic pictures, and urinating in
their water bottles and automobile gas tanks. The company?s supervisor was well aware of all of these

Compare And Contrast ( Walt ) And What Am I Looking For
What We Are Learning To (WALT) and What am I Looking For (WILF) is a distinct teaching
pedagogy that leads students through the learning process. WALT and WILF are exhibited in the
appendices as learning intentions and success criteria. WALT allows students to fully understand the
task rather than just completing the instructed task (Musgrave Hill State School, n.d.). WILF helps
students understand the purpose of the learning activity and how the curriculum is important to their
work in order to achieve a greater goal (Musgrave Hill State School, n.d.). For example, in week six
students edit one another s work. Peer editing is important as it allows students to understand the unit

Likewise, Dewey (1897) believed students prosper in a learning environment where they can take
initiative for learning. The teacher can employ this activity to acknowledge students learning
developments and plan lessons according to how students think and what students are interested in
based on the activity. In most of the lessons students have to complete an exit activity. These activities
allow students to reflect on their learning. It can also provide valuable feedback for teachers to
monitor students understanding. Wakeford (2017) agreed that exit activities are an optimal way to
conclude a class as it allows students to give the teacher feedback, and to deliberate the learning
intentions of the lesson and make connections to the previous lessons. For example, in week five,
students create questions about what was learned in this unit and what questions should be asked in
the next learning stage. Students engage in higher order thinking when creating questions from the
unit and preparing what will be expected for the next lesson. This exit activity engages student into
inquiry thinking and metacognition to ponder what was learned and how it was implemented (Beere,
2016).
Inquiry thinking and metacognition during exit activities aligns with Bloom s concept of higher order
thinking. Higher order thinking requires more activation of cognitive process. Successful higher order
thinking occurs when students can defend, validate, analyse, evaluate, and

Personal Narrative On Firework
Firework Idea
The year was 1989 it was the 4th of july and my father was having a great time with his friends and
family. Lets just say when he was younger my dad was not the smartest kid, when it came to doing
stupid things but then what 10 year old is. So this 4th of july my dad was hanging out with his brother
Trent also with his cousins Nick, Jason, Jared, Danny and Monica. Well in his family every year they
would by tons of fireworks for the 4th, well this year they decided to play capture the flag with the
fireworks. Lets just say that was not the best idea in the world.
Let the game begin, my dad yelled as the first game started. Both teams had hidden their flags on

Let the game begin Jared said and so it did. Immediately both teams ran to the boundary where they
would wait for someone to cross. This time is Danny to make the same move as my dad did but Danny
was to confident. The greatest thing for my dad was that Danny was the one that my dad needed to get
back at. So as Danny sprinted up the hill to the deck where the flag was, my dad chased after him.
When Danny got into range my dad lit the firework taped onto his hand and let it go. The firework
flew out of his hand like a bullet out of a gun. My dad got what he wanted and a lot more. The
firework struck Danny right in the middle of his back. Not only did it burn Danny s back it melted his
shirt to it! Poor Danny just dropped to the ground crying and bawling his eyes out. When they heard
the crying the parents all rush out of the house to see what was going on they say Danny laying on the
ground with his shirt melted to his back. They started yelling at my dad, especially my Grandpa Blake
who said some colorful things. My dad also started to cry because only being ten and all he was still a
little kid. Well at least one good thing came out of it, Trent oblivious to what had just happened ran
and grabbed the flag from the other team and ran back to his side. At least they won the game right.
This was one of my dad s best and worst days as

Police Brutality And The Riot
During 1992 in South Central Los Angeles, a riot started after the news of four white Los Angeles
police officers beating Rodney King was published on TV. It became daily news. The riot caused
many crimes to occur; participants of the riot burned down business stores, destroyed properties, and
some activities involved guns that have led to many deaths. Many South Central residents were
unsatisfied with police brutality and the way their community were being treated. Although the riot
only lasted for about a week, about 52 people were killed (Kivisto and Rundblad 82). The whole
neighborhood were ruined and destroyed. Ever since that riot, there were over 1 million property loss
(Kivisto and Rundblad 82), and over 700 businesses were burned down (Bergesen and Herman para.
1). Many people lost their jobs because their workplace were destroyed.
There were many different reasons that may have caused the 1992 riot in Los Angeles to occur.
However, not all of them were the main reasons of the riot. There were many side causes, for instance,
after the video of Rodney King being beaten was shown on television, residents of South Central Los
Angeles started to act up. They were affected by how King was being mistreated and how police
brutality played a big role in the video and their society. King s incident was very similar to many
other cases. For example, Anna Deavere Smith mentioned a case about Michael Zinzun from her book
Twilight Los Angeles 1992, Zinzun witnessed a police

Modified Adeli Suit therapy (MSAT), Adeli Suit therapy (AST), and Neurodevelopmental therapy
(NDT) for children with cerebral palsy. All of the main contributors to this article have received higher
level degrees, and the article was published in a reputable occupational therapy journal. This clinical
randomized trial studied a total of thirty six children that have cerebral palsy and who met the
inclusion criteria. The thirty six children were randomly placed into one of three groups: Modified
Adeli Suit therapy, Adeli Suit therapy, and Neurodevelopmental therapy, and each child received their
assigned therapy for two hours a day, five days a week for four weeks (Mahani, Karmiloo, Amirsalari,
2011). The AST group received one hour of prep work, and the second hour was spent wearing the
suit where they completed vigorous exercises. In the NDT group, the children spent the entire two
hours performing passive and active movements. Lastly, the MSAT group conducted movements
similar to the NDT group, during the first hour, and spent the second hour in the suit, where they
performed fun and meaningful goal based activities. The Gross Motor Function Measure was used at
zero, four, and sixteen weeks to compare the effectiveness of each treatment. The results show that the
MSAT was the most effective treatment, and there was no significant difference in outcomes between
the AST and NDT groups (Mahani, Karmiloo, Amirsalari, 2011). However, any of the three intense
therapies produced positive improvements. The experimenters believe that the shortened amount of
time spent on each movement and the goal based activities correlated with the positive outcomes in
the MSAT group (Mahani, Karmiloo,

Feminism in Medea by Euripides Essay
Feminism in Medea by Euripides The play Medea by Euripides challenges the dominant views of
femininity in the patriarchal society of the Greeks. While pursuing her ambition Medea disregards
many of the feminine stereotypes/ characteristics of the patriarchal Greek society. She questions the
inequality of women in a patriarchal society, contradicts Jason?s chauvinist beliefs, challenges the
stereotype that women are weak and passive and completely disregards the feminine role of
motherhood. Feminism is the belief that women and men are, and have been, treated differently by
society, and that women have frequently and systematically been unable to participate fully in all
social arenas and institutions. This belief is confirmed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then she was transferred to the home of her husband where she was to fulfill her principal function,
the bearing and rearing children. Medea shows the inequality of women in Greek society. The betrayal
of Medea by Jason through his marriage to another woman enrages Medea. She begins to question the
role and position of women in a patriarchal society. Are we women not the wretchedness? We scratch
and save a dowry to buy a man?Our lives depends on how his lordship feels. For better for worse we
can?t divorce him. (p.8, Medea). However, a husband tired of domesticity, Goes out sees friends and
enjoys himself?. (p.8and 9, Medea). Medea compares the virtual slavery of women to the absolute
freedom of men, showing the inequality and disempowerment of women in society at that time.
Jason?s chauvinist beliefs are put under the microscope. Jason airs his views about what all women
want: If they?re (women) happy in bed, they?re happy everywhere . By comparing Medea?s pure
feminism to Jason?s selfish chauvinism, Euripides brokers sympathy and support for feminism from
the audience.
Medea questions the firmly held belief in Greek society that women are weak and passive. Wanting
revenge on Jason for his betrayal of her, Medea must take control of the situation, a stereotypical
masculine quality. Though she cannot become a man or take power like a man, she perceives her

Mandatory Concealed Weapons On Campus
Because of the changes of brutal criminal acts on college campus, numerous professional weapon
extremist have recommended that both the college student and college instructors ought to be
permitted to carry concealed weapons on campus. Those for this may assert that their rights have been
damaged on the grounds that numerous school grounds decline to permit weapons of any sort on
grounds. It is not the privilege to convey a firearm which is in level headed discussion here, yet rather
it is whether firearms ought to be permitted on a school grounds. The Constitution of The United
States of America as of now concedes nationals the privilege to carry concealed weapon, and being in
the south, I am by a wide margin no outsider to seeing a firearm every once in a while, however it is
not proper for firearms to be in a defenseless region, for example, a school grounds. There are as of
now an excess of firearms accessible to the general population, and permitting them on an instructive
office would extraordinarily improve the probability of harm or demise. Americans, as beforehand
specified, have the privilege to carry weapons, and this ought to be held sacrosanct, and not
encroached, taken away, or restricted. Then again, stricter gun control ought to be executed for the
individuals who decided to convey a hid weapon, and firearm control ought to be carried out by
having stricter accreditation forms before a gun or firearm grant is issued, escalated mental assessment

Malthus, in his less famous work, Definitions in Political Economy, set down four rules for
formulating definitions. Lawyers will readily recognize these as authorless rules which they and the
courts have used in statutory interpretation. The first is that when people use words we should expect
others to interpret them in their ordinary sense, or dictionary meaning. The second rule given that
some distinction is required is to adopt the meaning as used by the most celebrated writers.

Theme Of Motifs In The Canterbury Tales
In The Canterbury Tales there are four main genre motifs that many of the tales share. These ‎
‎genre
motifs repeat themselves in the telling of a tale and allow one to classify the tales ‎
according to where
their plot fits best. The author, Geoffrey Chaucer, does this to show ‎
something important about The
Canterbury Tales and give some of his insight of the things he ‎
believed in at that time. One of the
main genre motifs that many tales share is the moral ‎
behavior motif. Tales that are part of this motif
are related to the ideals of Christianity and how ‎
people in the tale behave. Both in the Pardoner s tale
and the Friar s tale, the tales show the ‎
motif of moral behavior as they revolve around characters that
break some ideals of Christianity ‎
by taking part in some immoral behavior.‎... Show more content on

The Pardoner s tale clearly exemplifies the motif of moral behavior ‎
as one of the seven deadly sins,
greed, is what drives the three men to kill each other. In the ‎
Pardoner s prologue it even states that
radix malorum est cupiditas , meaning the love of ‎
money is the root of all evil . The statement that
money is the root of evil then becomes the moral ‎
of the story and shows how greed led the men to do
an immoral thing. However, even after the ‎
tale ends one can still see that the motif of moral behavior
is still a part in the tale because the ‎
Pardoner tries to sell his relics. The pardoner knows that the relics
are not real but his love for ‎
money drives him to want to do anything he can, including tricking his
fellow friends, to buying ‎
relics. Therefore, an irony takes place because although the Pardoner warns
that the love of ‎
money is the root of all evil, he himself commits and immoral things due to his love of

A Room Of One s Own Anger
In Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own, Woolf contemplates the root of her anger sketch of the
professor, Woolf describes, It referred me unmistakably to the one book, to the one phrase, which had
roused the demon; it was the professor s statement about the mental, moral and physical inferiority of
women. My heart had leapt. My cheeks had burnt. I had flushed with anger, (32). I would usually
consider myself a fairly mild mannered person, it usually took a lot to get me to the state of anger that
Woolf describes when remembering the professor s statement about the inferiority of women.
However, there was one particular incident this year that changed all of that. Deciding to brave my

might have been or how mad it might have made it. Reacting so strongly to having someone invalidate
my sense of doing a good deed helped me realize what I am truly passionate about, and what I would

that I live, and if I can do anything to help someone else, especially if it s something as easy as

Why Do We Need To Legalize Animal Testing
Within the past several decades, as medical and scientific research have progressively advanced
throughout the world, the global market has expanded to encompass a wide range of medications,
chemicals, cosmetics, and other commercial products. In an endeavor to account for the constantly
increasing demand for these products, numerous research facilities and laboratories have arisen across
the United States. However, although a number of these medications and cosmetics have proven an
asset to society, these products are created at the expense of the lives of millions of innocent creatures.
Before becoming available for consumption on the market, the effectiveness of these products is
verified through a series of unfathomably cruel animal trials and experiments. While the government
has sought to maintain a measure of control over animal experimentation through the implementation
of laws, these efforts have been largely in vain. Despite the enactment of regulations designed to
reduce the mistreatment of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin with, animal experimentation subjects innocent creatures to immense physical and
psychological agony through the employment of abusive, inhumane procedures. Currently, an
approximate 26 million animals in the United States alone undergo trials and experiments devised to
ascertain the efficiency and overall safety of products developed for human use ( Animal Testing ). In
a futile attempt to prevent the immoral treatment of animals in scientific laboratories, the government
enacted the Animal Welfare Act several years previously, granting marginal protection to a handful of
sentient species. However, the Animal Welfare Act excludes nearly 99 percent of animal species
commonly used in scientific studies, thereby enabling scientists to experiment on creatures such as
birds, mice, fish, and other cold blooded species without interference from the law ( Animal Testing

Introduction:
Section 2(13) of company s act defines a director may be defined as a person having control over the
direction, conduct, management, or superintendence of affairs of a company. Any person in

Section 2 (6) of the company s act states that the directors are collectively referred to as board of

Section 4 of the Companies Act 1965 stated that the director of a company is a person who is chosen
to be the directors or alternate directors apart from the given name upon on their position (Rachagan,
2002). Director is not just only a person that formally selected to the office. Even though they are not
validly appointed, the s4 of the Act can as well consider certain persons to be directors, but only if the
contrary intention appears.
One of the duties that company directors need to comply with is fiduciary duties. This is so as
company directors are said to be in a fiduciary relationship with the company. When directors are in a
fiduciary relationship with the company, they are prohibited from doing any acts deemed prejudicial to
the company. In other words, by applying the judgment in Hospital Products Ltd v United States
Surgical Corpn, directors cannot and should not use his position to receive personal gains.
The traditional view is that the directors owed a fiduciary duty to the company. This is the reason why
directors are prohibited from receiving personal gain from their status as directors in a company. The
nature of the relationship i.e. fiduciary relationship between directors and a company rendered the
directors to act for the best interest of the company. This point can be supported by looking at Section
132(1) of the Companies Act 1965 which states that a director must act in bona fide when exercising
his powers for a proper purpose and

Ancient Maya Religious Practices and Beliefs Essays
Almost every aspect of Maya life was centered on religion. These ancient Mesoamerican peoples
worshipped many gods and goddesses; this was part of their daily lives, despite class differences in
their sophisticated society. Religion served as a basis for the government and social life. Priests and
shamans played an important role in their government, conducted religious ceremonies, and made
sacrifices to the gods. The Maya believed in the supernatural, and used this belief to explain life and
their universe. Every object, whether it is part of nature or man made, was considered sacred and
worshipped. The Maya universe was composed of three different realms; the Upperworld in the sky,
the Earth, and the Underworld down below. Also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Xibalba was organized into nine descending levels, worsening in punishment and torture as the levels

were condemned to Xibalba. The Maya described the Underworld as a place filled with water and
rivers and could be entered through caves or bodies of water. Despite the various characteristics and
features the Maya believed their ancestors, spirits, and gods resided in all three realms and worshiped
them. Like any religion, the Mayas had religious leaders to lead the community spiritually. Priests and
shamans guided the religious practices of the Maya and were of great importance to the survival of the
civilization because they would help the people please the gods. Shamans were mainly commoners
and looked after those in their local community. Much like medicine men of the Native American
tribes, shamans used their knowledge of plants to act as doctors amongst the people and cure illness. It
was the job of the shamans to perform rituals, decipher events, and tell the future so the people were
able to know the will of the gods. Unlike shamans, priests were of the elite class and took part in much
larger matters. Many elite class sons became priests because they could not all hold a political office.
Priests who were full time specialists in religious matters emerged as Maya society became larger and

Reading, Driving While Stupid, By Dave Barry
Final Paper After reading Driving While Stupid, by Dave Barry, he tells us about some of his
experience with seeing bad drivers. Barry uses many old experiences while being in Miami, China,
Boston, and Argentina. I agree with this statement because in almost every city I been in the driving
was terrible. Everyone, in some way or another, has witnessed people drive very stupid and reckless.
Barry indicated that some drivers use insane driving techniques. These include driving very fast,
failure of the utilization of headlights at night, and having distractions for the view of the drivers. He
says that the drivers do not have a sequence for navigation since some are involved in phone calls,
eating, reading, changing CDs, crowd surface makeup, etc. This is a common thing for teens and even
adults to be distracted behind the wheel. He drove through various cities where the traffic laws are
constantly being violated. For example, has only one traffic law, which is No driver may ever be
behind any other driver. In his opinion, Miami drivers are the worst drivers that he has ever witness
because of the guy who was driving on 1 95. He was watching videos on his phone and was clearly
not paying attention to the road or any other drivers. This does not only affect him but also the other
people around him. He was not be cautious of the road and putting his and others lives in danger.

Gender Bias At Job Fairs
Gender Bias at Job Fairs Chapter 2: Review of Related Literature Introduction to the Literature The
first step in the research process is to locate literature that supports, or contradicts the hypothesis of
the research study. It is to identify gaps in the topic area that need to be filled by future studies.
Literature review also provides the context of the study in relation to its perspective field. This
research involves gender bias at job fairs. Research on gender bias is extensive, but research on gender
bias specifically at job fairs was unable to be located. Job fairs are hiring venues. Therefore, it would
stand to reason that research regarding hiring practices would apply to job fairs as well. However, job
fairs represent a unique environment that has specific issues that are not present in other hiring
environments. Identification of these issues will be the focus of this literature review. This literature
review only considers research that takes place in an academic research setting. The issue of gender
bias has been a topic in publications targeted towards human resources managers, and in popular
media. This study will only consider studies that meet the criteria of being performed according to
empirical research standards. Due to a lack of research material that is specific to the topic of the
proposed study, research will be presented in closely related areas that provide insight into the
direction that the proposed study needs to take.

She might have looked her thanks to Gabriel on a minute scale, but she did not speak them; more

Chapter 7:
Bathsheba... scarcely knew whether most to be amused at the singularity of the meeting, or to be
concerned at its awkwardness. Here, the contrast is made between social classes. Hardy compares
Bathsheba s selfishness and vanity with Gabriel s recent fall to poverty.
Moving past Oak as a Christian edges past an offertory plate when he does not mean to contribute,
Gabriel gives his last coins to a shivering a trembling girl. Once again, Gabriel s actions go to show
his good heart.
It is all I have to spare. Gabriel says this before giving away his last coins. He is generous and seems
to put others before himself. Once again, a contrast between him and Bathsheba.
Chapter 8: The stone flag floor was worn into a path from the doorway to the kiln, and into
undulations everywhere. Hardy offers a description of Gabriel s new living space. Although it s
simple, the people that fill it are of many different personality types. Gabriel fits right in; everyone
seems to like him at the malt house.

Presented itself as a hoary building, of the early stage of Classic Renaissance, describes Bathsheba s

Harley Davidson has become a household name in the United States and is a brand that has acquired

weakness (since 2008) for Harley Davidson due to the poor economic condition of the US

many years, Harley Davidson s target market was the baby boomers. Harley s core customer is a
middle aged white American male, a group that will contract in the coming decade. As one blogger

The Growth Of Marine Diatom
Abstract
The growth of marine diatom, Chaetoceros muelleri, used as live feed in aquaculture, was optimized
using response surface methodology (RSM). The variables initially screened for biomass production
using Plackett Burman experimental design were nitrate, phosphate, silicate, temperature, pH, salinity
and agitation speed. The screening revealed that nitrate, phosphate, silicate, temperature and pH
significantly influenced the biomass production of C. muelleri. These five variables were further
optimized by central composite design (CCD) of RSM for biomass production and the medium was
constituted accordingly to have nitrate 180 mg l 1, phosphate 7.5 mg l 1, silicate 30 mg l 1, and
temperature of incubation 31oC and pH 6.46. At the end of 10 day culture period under the above
conditions biomass, protein, lipid and carbohydrate were found significantly increased from 360 ±0.01

Somali The Somali Banking System
The Somali Banking System
Anna Koontz
Dr. Darcy Hartman
AEDE 4536
21 November 2015
A: Introduction and Problem Description Somalia is a war torn nation in East Africa that has been
systematically affected by political, economic, and social issues for decades. These issues have
profoundly impacted the way that the nation functions as a whole. One of the most significant
economic issues that plagues Somalia today is its lack of an effective central bank, and the general
scarcity of banks throughout the country. The Central Bank of Somalia does exist, but it is essentially
inoperative, as it has no substantial authority and has not officially printed a single bank note since the
1990s1. Currently, the Central Bank of Somalia does not dictate monetary policy whatsoever, and only
conducts surveys as it attempts to reconstruct itself 2. Because of this, counterfeit currency makes up a
sizable proportion of the money in circulation, and most Somalis rely on remittances transferred from
family members abroad to survive. In fact, it is estimated that around 45% of Somalia s economy is
made up of these remittances that come from places like Kenya, Ethiopia, and the United States,
where large populations of Somali refugees and immigrants currently live3.
Not surprisingly, the lack of a banking system has led to currency substitution that appears in many
forms. Some use foreign currency or the plentiful counterfeit bills, while others use money issued by

Economic Inequality In America
Economic inequality reigns as a massive divide in the United States of America. Many active policies
cause people to occupy an economic level which is meant to benefit those above them. With that said,
there have been many efforts taken in hopes of reducing the current levels of economic inequality, but
with these efforts, money and wealth will have to be taken from the rich to give to the poorer. This is
where the problem lies with wealth inequality many have to sacrifice for those whom they presume to
be unworthy of benefiting from their fortunes. Education, wealth, race, and power all play a role as to
why action will not be taken to reduce the current levels of inequality in America.
The rich see their money and how it will benefit them. In What the Rich Won t Tell You, Rachel
Sherman addresses the mentality of the rich. Some rich people feel the need to conceal their wealth
when it benefits them, and on the other hand, they will flaunt their wealth when it benefits them. For
instance, Sherman interviewed a financially well off, middle aged woman named Beatrice. Beatrice
stated that she was uncomfortable with the inequality between herself and her nanny, a Latina
immigrant. (Sherman) Although her wealth made her uncomfortable, and she would remove price tags
from her clothing and food, Beatrice was unwilling to suppress her lifestyle to lift the Latina nanny s
financial situation any higher. The wealthy simply described themselves as normal people who

The introduction chapter in The Dangerous Act of Loving Your Neighbor was helpful for
understanding the book s overall purpose. The purpose of this book can be drawn from the example of
little old Doris who showed exceptional grace and justice when we was unjustly exploited for money
and victimized. The author refers back to Doris story throughout the whole book, helping us see the
real like application. The real life application is why this book needed to be written. While reading this
book, internal changes should be happening; hence, the reflection questions after each important
section. I believe the author wrote this book because through his own experience, he came to know
that there are deep injustices against us and against others in our hearts. The healing can begin once
we have identified those injustices, and repented.
What are the main points the book is attempting to get across? o Human hearts form the seedbed from
which injustice thrives. (pg.16) o We misperceive so many of the realities around us. Our
misperceptions derive from our experiences and environment. They are inevitable, but they are not
excusable. Our misperception of others brings about unauthorized judgment, draws distinction
between us and them , and ultimately fosters injustice in our own hearts.

Strategic Performance Analysis Of Delta, Southwest, And...
Introduction:
Developing a strategic performance plan for a company is only the first step. The plan must then be
implemented and after a short period of time it must then be evaluated. This evaluation is key in
determining if the strategic plan is not only effective but also efficient. After being presented with
yearly data for the top three competitors, Delta, Southwest, and United Airlines, of the US airline
industry, it was my goal to develop comparative performance metrics to find out how if the companies
strategies are efficient in a financial standpoint. While I calculated all of the required metrics, only a
few stood out to me as useful when evaluating the companies. Some of the key performance metrics
that I computed are revenue per employee, accounts receivable turnover, current ratio, and return on
assets.
Revenue per employee
Revenue per employee is a calculation that allows you see if the company is effectively utilizing its
resources and also what their level of productivity is. Revenue per employee and productivity share a
positive relationship so the higher the output, the better. After calculating each company s revenue per
employee during the fiscal years 2005 to 2012, I calculated the average to make an overall comparison
of the three.
Delta Airlines came out on top with the highest revenue per employee and United Airlines with a close
second. This shows that these three companies are staying relatively competitive with their
productivity.

The Importance Of Cheating In School
Cheating is in every school no matter how their rules are. Students love to cheat, but no one really
knows why they cheat. Some cheaters use smart students for their own benefits in school. Cheating is
getting worse with all the new technology coming out and improving. Students think they will get
away with cheating in their classes. Most students who cheat get punished when they get caught. They
do not like their punishments as well as know they will get punished if they cheat yet they still
continue to do so. There are many reasons why students will cheat. Students choose to cheat because
they want a good grade, they did not do their work on time, or they did not pay attention in class. One
reason a student might cheat is because they want a good grade. Students like Bobby want to have a
good grade in school. Bobby always failed in class, so he decided to cheat to bring up his grades. He
would look at other students work for homework as well as looked at other students test. Sometimes
Bobby took pictures of the student s work before leaving class. Furthermore, Bobby would miss class
some days due to being sick or just skipping class. He did not like many of his classes and wanted to
avoid them when he did not want to go to that class. Some days he got so sick that he could not come
to school. Bobby would ask his friends if he could copy their work when he missed class so that he
could have it done next time he went to class. Bobby would also look up the questions on the
homework to find the answers and copy them. Finally, Bobby s parents knew he always failed his
classes, so they told him he needed to do better in school. His parents did not like that he always
failed, and they always tried to help him with his work. Bobby never let his parents help him because
he thought they would not be any help to him. Another reason why students cheat is because they did
not do their work on time. Bobby would have days where he did not get his work done on time. He
would go out with friends instead of work on his homework. Bobby never liked to tell his friends he
could not hang out with them. Bobby never told his friends he could hang out after he was done with

The Growth of the Labour Party and the Decline of the Liberal Party
At the end of World War One in November 1918 the Labour Party emerged as a strong political Party.
Prior to this it was the Liberal Party that was expected to be the main opposition to the Conservatives,
with Labour as a party who used the popularity of the Liberals to become noticed. However, it soon
became apparent that the Liberals were a weak and flagging party who were unable to unite as one to
make decisions. It is evident that the First World War may have been an important factor in the growth
of Labour and the decline of the Liberals.
It seems that the decline of the Liberals began with several problems that can be traced back to pre
war times. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Liberals were hesitant to support women s suffrage because it was hard to know whom women
would vote for. Between 1911 and 1914 the Suffragettes became increasingly militant as the Liberals
refused to find parliamentary time to debate the question. The party claimed the issue was a
constitutional not a moral question . The suffragette issue damaged the Liberals as their evident
reluctance to treat it as a matter of belief weakened their moral standing. Their failure to resolve the
issue proved to be a political embarrassment.
Between 1908 and 1914 the position of Trade Unions legally improved, but these years also saw the
most active period of Trade Union action. This included industrial unrest and much strike action. Two
reasons have been given to justify this industrial unrest: syndicalism or a response to the current social
and economic conditions. However, it is possible that the Liberal government were to blame for this
industrial unrest. They were accused of not taking quick enough action to reverse the Osbourne

  • 2. Comparing Beowulf And Anglo-Saxon Culture Powerful, courageous, and fearless, stands Beowulf. As devastation enters Herot, Hrothgar has no other choice but to call for help. After enduring a long journey, Beowulf rises to the challenge to defend the land. Throughout the story he crosses many paths, and must make critical decisions. However there are two versions of this story, a movie and a poem that portray different views of Anglo Saxon culture and today s culture. Although the Beowulf movie and poem share many similarities, the different portrayals of character personalities, religion, and gender roles reveal the values of the societies in which they are told. The first comparison to be made would be the different character personalities among the movie and poem. In both the poem and the movie, Beowulf is known for his strength, status, and noble birth. He is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christianity and Paganism were both practiced in the Anglo Saxon society. In the movie, Unfurth mentions praying to the stone gods, reflecting paganism, and to pray to Jesus, representing Christianity. In the poem there are also many references to both religions. On page 38, line 189, he says that fate will unwind as it must! when conversing with Hrothgar about his upcoming battle with Grendel. Saying that was an example of paganism. Evil. Page 43, line 333 states that Grendel would now realize what it mean to feud with Almighty God . That reference was christian and represented their battle as good v.s. Evil. In the movie, Beowulf juggles his beliefs switching from christian to pagan. However, towards the end, in so many words he say the Christian god ruined everything. In contrast, before Beowulf dies in the poem, he gives all glory to god. Before Beowulf s death, lying helplessly on the ground, he says For this, this gold, these jewels, I thank Our Father in Heaven, Ruler of the Earth... . • 4. The Economic Crash Of 2008 Changed Everyone s Lives The Economy shifts all the time and comes back to an equilibrium, but the changes it brings are permanent. From 2007 to 2009 the united states went through an economic downfall. The economic crash in 2008 changed everyone s lives. I will be discussing this more on a personal level as in how people s actual lives changed, rather than discussing the numbers and how the stock market changed. What happens when the economy crashes and how does this impact people? I will answer this using the lens that describes the everyday lives of people. What made people realize that the economy was suffering? People had the same amount of income but the prices of everything around got extremely high. The things that made a huge impact was the gas prices and loss of jobs. One thing leading to another, with gas prices so high people weren t even able to reach new job opportunities. ... People also reduced driving and relied more on public transportation. The amount of people on the bus, Bart, and bikes increased rapidly. There was also an increase in people carpooling and using FastTrack. This led to less people driving but it didn t benefit everyone. People who were jobless or laid off were not able to go far from home to look for jobs because gas prices were high and public transportation only covered a certain radius. Artificial Sweeteners And Low Calorie Sweeteners In the face of an expanding epidemic of overweight and obesity, individuals have increasingly turned to artificially sweetened (AS) foods and beverages... in an attempt to lose weight, or control it (Fowler et al. 2008). Because many artificial sweeteners have less calories in them than regular sweeteners (such as sugar and honey) do, people have turned to these products in order to help decrease their caloric intake. One of the most effective ways to lose weight is to decrease the caloric intake. Artificial sweeteners can be found in a variety of products, these days, and are very accessible to consumers. While many believe that these products can help control and reduce weight, there is evidence suggesting that artificial sweeteners not only have no effect on weight gain, but may cause weight gain in certain individuals. The teacher can employ this activity to acknowledge students learning developments and plan lessons according to how students think and what students are interested in based on the activity. In most of the lessons students have to complete an exit activity. These activities allow students to reflect on their learning. It can also provide valuable feedback for teachers to monitor students understanding. Wakeford (2017) agreed that exit activities are an optimal way to conclude a class as it allows students to give the teacher feedback, and to deliberate the learning intentions of the lesson and make connections to the previous lessons. For example, in week five, students create questions about what was learned in this unit and what questions should be asked in the next learning stage. Students engage in higher order thinking when creating questions from the unit and preparing what will be expected for the next lesson. This exit activity engages student into inquiry thinking and metacognition to ponder what was learned and how it was implemented (Beere, 2016). Jason?s chauvinist beliefs are put under the microscope. Jason airs his views about what all women want: If they?re (women) happy in bed, they?re happy everywhere . By comparing Medea?s pure feminism to Jason?s selfish chauvinism, Euripides brokers sympathy and support for feminism from the audience. • 27. Ancient Maya Religious Practices and Beliefs Essays Almost every aspect of Maya life was centered on religion. These ancient Mesoamerican peoples worshipped many gods and goddesses; this was part of their daily lives, despite class differences in their sophisticated society. Religion served as a basis for the government and social life. Priests and shamans played an important role in their government, conducted religious ceremonies, and made sacrifices to the gods. The Maya believed in the supernatural, and used this belief to explain life and their universe. Every object, whether it is part of nature or man made, was considered sacred and worshipped. The Maya universe was composed of three different realms; the Upperworld in the sky, the Earth, and the Underworld down below. Also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Xibalba was organized into nine descending levels, worsening in punishment and torture as the levels lowered. Maya Lords of Death ruled over the different levels. After death, those who led evil lives were condemned to Xibalba. The Maya described the Underworld as a place filled with water and rivers and could be entered through caves or bodies of water. Despite the various characteristics and features the Maya believed their ancestors, spirits, and gods resided in all three realms and worshiped them. Like any religion, the Mayas had religious leaders to lead the community spiritually. Priests and shamans guided the religious practices of the Maya and were of great importance to the survival of the civilization because they would help the people please the gods. Shamans were mainly commoners and looked after those in their local community. Much like medicine men of the Native American tribes, shamans used their knowledge of plants to act as doctors amongst the people and cure illness. It was the job of the shamans to perform rituals, decipher events, and tell the future so the people were able to know the will of the gods. Unlike shamans, priests were of the elite class and took part in much larger matters. Many elite class sons became priests because they could not all hold a political office. Priests who were full time specialists in religious matters emerged as Maya society became larger and more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Reading, Driving While Stupid, By Dave Barry Final Paper After reading Driving While Stupid, by Dave Barry, he tells us about some of his experience with seeing bad drivers. Barry uses many old experiences while being in Miami, China, Boston, and Argentina. I agree with this statement because in almost every city I been in the driving was terrible. Everyone, in some way or another, has witnessed people drive very stupid and reckless. Barry indicated that some drivers use insane driving techniques. These include driving very fast, failure of the utilization of headlights at night, and having distractions for the view of the drivers. He says that the drivers do not have a sequence for navigation since some are involved in phone calls, eating, reading, changing CDs, crowd surface makeup, etc. This is a common thing for teens and even adults to be distracted behind the wheel. He drove through various cities where the traffic laws are constantly being violated. For example, has only one traffic law, which is No driver may ever be behind any other driver. In his opinion, Miami drivers are the worst drivers that he has ever witness because of the guy who was driving on 1 95. He was watching videos on his phone and was clearly not paying attention to the road or any other drivers. This does not only affect him but also the other people around him. He was not be cautious of the road and putting his and others lives in danger. Barry mention in his story about Miami, proud home of the worst darned drivers in the ... • 29. Gender Bias At Job Fairs Gender Bias at Job Fairs Chapter 2: Review of Related Literature Introduction to the Literature The first step in the research process is to locate literature that supports, or contradicts the hypothesis of the research study. It is to identify gaps in the topic area that need to be filled by future studies. Literature review also provides the context of the study in relation to its perspective field. This research involves gender bias at job fairs. Research on gender bias is extensive, but research on gender bias specifically at job fairs was unable to be located. Job fairs are hiring venues. Therefore, it would stand to reason that research regarding hiring practices would apply to job fairs as well. However, job fairs represent a unique environment that has specific issues that are not present in other hiring environments. Identification of these issues will be the focus of this literature review. This literature review only considers research that takes place in an academic research setting. The issue of gender bias has been a topic in publications targeted towards human resources managers, and in popular media. This study will only consider studies that meet the criteria of being performed according to empirical research standards. Due to a lack of research material that is specific to the topic of the proposed study, research will be presented in closely related areas that provide insight into the direction that the proposed study needs to take. ... The girl that Gabriel is watching from a distance seems very vain as she looks at herself in the mirror and blushes at herself. Let the young woman pass, says Oak after giving his to pence to the gatekeeper. I don t think his kindness was coming completely from the fact that the girl was attractive; I think Oak is just an all around nice guy. She might have looked her thanks to Gabriel on a minute scale, but she did not speak them; more probably, she felt none. The girl seems to put herself on a pedestal. From Gabriel s point of view she seems arrogant and as if she thinks she s better than everyone else. Maybe that s why she didn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Do you happen to want a shepherd, ma am? After the fire ended, a woman sent her maid to thank Gabriel. Gabriel then approached her (saying this). When the girl lifted up her veil, was made known that the girl was Bathsheba. Chapter 7: Bathsheba... scarcely knew whether most to be amused at the singularity of the meeting, or to be concerned at its awkwardness. Here, the contrast is made between social classes. Hardy compares Bathsheba s selfishness and vanity with Gabriel s recent fall to poverty. Moving past Oak as a Christian edges past an offertory plate when he does not mean to contribute, Gabriel gives his last coins to a shivering a trembling girl. Once again, Gabriel s actions go to show his good heart. It is all I have to spare. Gabriel says this before giving away his last coins. He is generous and seems to put others before himself. Once again, a contrast between him and Bathsheba. Chapter 8: The stone flag floor was worn into a path from the doorway to the kiln, and into undulations everywhere. Hardy offers a description of Gabriel s new living space. Although it s simple, the people that fill it are of many different personality types. Gabriel fits right in; everyone seems to like him at the malt house. Chapter 9: Presented itself as a hoary building, of the early stage of Classic Renaissance, describes Bathsheba s house. It is described as ornate and moss covered. Her face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Harley Davidson Essay Harley Davidson has become a household name in the United States and is a brand that has acquired an almost mystical power (Austin, Sole, Cotteleer, 2). The Harley Davidson motorcycle business has been around for 95 years and to this day, people will still wait up to two years for their turn at receiving their own Harley. The demographic of Harley Davidson customers ranges from riders in their forties with grown child no longer at home to young, reckless and born to be wild (Austin, Sole, Cotteleer, 2). The Harley Davidson Motor Company was formed in 1903 by William Harley and Arthur Davidson when they began experimenting on taking the work out of bicycling (Austin, Sole, Cotteleer, 1). In 1920, the company became the largest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During 2009, Harley Davidson generated more than half of its revenue (67.9%) from the United States. (The remainder revenue was from Europe (16.3%), Japan (6%), Canada (4.1%), Australia (3.2%), and rest of the world (2.5%). The high dependence on the U.S. market has proven to be a great weakness (since 2008) for Harley Davidson due to the poor economic condition of the US (GlobalData). Another problem Harley Davidson has recently developed is a declining market. For many years, Harley Davidson s target market was the baby boomers. Harley s core customer is a middle aged white American male, a group that will contract in the coming decade. As one blogger wrote, The 60 70 year old riders have trouble lifting a leg over the seat because of arthritis. And finger joints hurt with the cold air and engine vibration. Women represent just 11% of Harley buyers, and penetration in the African American and Hispanic markets is similarly limited (Taylor, Alex). (Will Go more into detail...) Opportunities: Harley Davidson currently possesses the largest motorcycle market in the world (fundinguniverse.com, 1). This is also due in part to the European market which has the highest demand for the bikes. Internationally, the heavyweight market has grown larger than that in the United States and has had an increasing market share in Asia as well for the past few years. Another opportunity for ... • 32. The Growth Of Marine Diatom Abstract The growth of marine diatom, Chaetoceros muelleri, used as live feed in aquaculture, was optimized using response surface methodology (RSM). The variables initially screened for biomass production using Plackett Burman experimental design were nitrate, phosphate, silicate, temperature, pH, salinity and agitation speed. The screening revealed that nitrate, phosphate, silicate, temperature and pH significantly influenced the biomass production of C. muelleri. These five variables were further optimized by central composite design (CCD) of RSM for biomass production and the medium was constituted accordingly to have nitrate 180 mg l 1, phosphate 7.5 mg l 1, silicate 30 mg l 1, and temperature of incubation 31oC and pH 6.46. At the end of 10 day culture period under the above conditions biomass, protein, lipid and carbohydrate were found significantly increased from 360 ±0.01 mg l 1, 9.41±0.02%,18.11±0.01%, 0.6±0.02% to 1.16±0.01g l 1 , 11.02±0.01%,19.58±0.01%,0.77±0.01% respectively Keywords Microalgae; Chaetoceros muelleri; Optimization; Response Surface Methodology; Biomass production. • 33. Somali The Somali Banking System The Somali Banking System Anna Koontz Dr. Darcy Hartman AEDE 4536 21 November 2015 A: Introduction and Problem Description Somalia is a war torn nation in East Africa that has been systematically affected by political, economic, and social issues for decades. These issues have profoundly impacted the way that the nation functions as a whole. One of the most significant economic issues that plagues Somalia today is its lack of an effective central bank, and the general scarcity of banks throughout the country. The Central Bank of Somalia does exist, but it is essentially inoperative, as it has no substantial authority and has not officially printed a single bank note since the 1990s1. Currently, the Central Bank of Somalia does not dictate monetary policy whatsoever, and only conducts surveys as it attempts to reconstruct itself 2. Because of this, counterfeit currency makes up a sizable proportion of the money in circulation, and most Somalis rely on remittances transferred from family members abroad to survive. In fact, it is estimated that around 45% of Somalia s economy is made up of these remittances that come from places like Kenya, Ethiopia, and the United States, where large populations of Somali refugees and immigrants currently live3. Not surprisingly, the lack of a banking system has led to currency substitution that appears in many forms. Some use foreign currency or the plentiful counterfeit bills, while others use money issued by regional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Economic Inequality In America Economic inequality reigns as a massive divide in the United States of America. Many active policies cause people to occupy an economic level which is meant to benefit those above them. With that said, there have been many efforts taken in hopes of reducing the current levels of economic inequality, but with these efforts, money and wealth will have to be taken from the rich to give to the poorer. This is where the problem lies with wealth inequality many have to sacrifice for those whom they presume to be unworthy of benefiting from their fortunes. Education, wealth, race, and power all play a role as to why action will not be taken to reduce the current levels of inequality in America. The rich see their money and how it will benefit them. In What the Rich Won t Tell You, Rachel Sherman addresses the mentality of the rich. Some rich people feel the need to conceal their wealth when it benefits them, and on the other hand, they will flaunt their wealth when it benefits them. For instance, Sherman interviewed a financially well off, middle aged woman named Beatrice. Beatrice stated that she was uncomfortable with the inequality between herself and her nanny, a Latina immigrant. (Sherman) Although her wealth made her uncomfortable, and she would remove price tags from her clothing and food, Beatrice was unwilling to suppress her lifestyle to lift the Latina nanny s financial situation any higher. The wealthy simply described themselves as normal people who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This book needed to be written because... The introduction chapter in The Dangerous Act of Loving Your Neighbor was helpful for understanding the book s overall purpose. The purpose of this book can be drawn from the example of little old Doris who showed exceptional grace and justice when we was unjustly exploited for money and victimized. The author refers back to Doris story throughout the whole book, helping us see the real like application. The real life application is why this book needed to be written. While reading this book, internal changes should be happening; hence, the reflection questions after each important section. I believe the author wrote this book because through his own experience, he came to know that there are deep injustices against us and against others in our hearts. The healing can begin once we have identified those injustices, and repented. What are the main points the book is attempting to get across? o Human hearts form the seedbed from which injustice thrives. (pg.16) o We misperceive so many of the realities around us. Our misperceptions derive from our experiences and environment. They are inevitable, but they are not excusable. Our misperception of others brings about unauthorized judgment, draws distinction between us and them , and ultimately fosters injustice in our own hearts. o ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Strategic Performance Analysis Of Delta, Southwest, And... Introduction: Developing a strategic performance plan for a company is only the first step. The plan must then be implemented and after a short period of time it must then be evaluated. This evaluation is key in determining if the strategic plan is not only effective but also efficient. After being presented with yearly data for the top three competitors, Delta, Southwest, and United Airlines, of the US airline industry, it was my goal to develop comparative performance metrics to find out how if the companies strategies are efficient in a financial standpoint. While I calculated all of the required metrics, only a few stood out to me as useful when evaluating the companies. Some of the key performance metrics that I computed are revenue per employee, accounts receivable turnover, current ratio, and return on assets. Revenue per employee Revenue per employee is a calculation that allows you see if the company is effectively utilizing its resources and also what their level of productivity is. Revenue per employee and productivity share a positive relationship so the higher the output, the better. After calculating each company s revenue per employee during the fiscal years 2005 to 2012, I calculated the average to make an overall comparison of the three. Delta Airlines came out on top with the highest revenue per employee and United Airlines with a close second. This shows that these three companies are staying relatively competitive with their productivity. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hinduism is said to exist as a supreme being while both Buddhism and Confucianism are based upon the teachings of a man. Taoism revolves around a concept (Kokemuller, 2005). • 38. The Importance Of Cheating In School Cheating is in every school no matter how their rules are. Students love to cheat, but no one really knows why they cheat. Some cheaters use smart students for their own benefits in school. Cheating is getting worse with all the new technology coming out and improving. Students think they will get away with cheating in their classes. Most students who cheat get punished when they get caught. They do not like their punishments as well as know they will get punished if they cheat yet they still continue to do so. There are many reasons why students will cheat. Students choose to cheat because they want a good grade, they did not do their work on time, or they did not pay attention in class. One reason a student might cheat is because they want a good grade. Students like Bobby want to have a good grade in school. Bobby always failed in class, so he decided to cheat to bring up his grades. He would look at other students work for homework as well as looked at other students test. Sometimes Bobby took pictures of the student s work before leaving class. Furthermore, Bobby would miss class some days due to being sick or just skipping class. He did not like many of his classes and wanted to avoid them when he did not want to go to that class. Some days he got so sick that he could not come to school. Bobby would ask his friends if he could copy their work when he missed class so that he could have it done next time he went to class. Bobby would also look up the questions on the homework to find the answers and copy them. Finally, Bobby s parents knew he always failed his classes, so they told him he needed to do better in school. His parents did not like that he always failed, and they always tried to help him with his work. Bobby never let his parents help him because he thought they would not be any help to him. Another reason why students cheat is because they did not do their work on time. Bobby would have days where he did not get his work done on time. The Growth of the Labour Party and the Decline of the Liberal Party At the end of World War One in November 1918 the Labour Party emerged as a strong political Party. Prior to this it was the Liberal Party that was expected to be the main opposition to the Conservatives, with Labour as a party who used the popularity of the Liberals to become noticed. However, it soon became apparent that the Liberals were a weak and flagging party who were unable to unite as one to make decisions. It is evident that the First World War may have been an important factor in the growth of Labour and the decline of the Liberals. It seems that the decline of the Liberals began with several problems that can be traced back to pre war times. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Liberals were hesitant to support women s suffrage because it was hard to know whom women would vote for. Between 1911 and 1914 the Suffragettes became increasingly militant as the Liberals refused to find parliamentary time to debate the question. The party claimed the issue was a constitutional not a moral question . The suffragette issue damaged the Liberals as their evident reluctance to treat it as a matter of belief weakened their moral standing. Their failure to resolve the issue proved to be a political embarrassment. Between 1908 and 1914 the position of Trade Unions legally improved, but these years also saw the most active period of Trade Union action. This included industrial unrest and much strike action. Two reasons have been given to justify this industrial unrest: syndicalism or a response to the current social and economic conditions. However, it is possible that the Liberal government were to blame for this industrial unrest. They were accused of not taking quick enough action to reverse the Osbourne judgement (where Trade Unions could not ask for a political levy) which was a great embarrassment to them. The political levy was declared illegal in 1909 after a union used part of the fees to fund the Labour Party. There was then a feeling that Liberals were determined to undermine the Labour ...
