A Summary On Charismatic Faith And Ministry
Summary of Charismatic Faith and Ministry
Charismatic Faith and Ministry is a comprehensive book of Charismatic Systematic Theology. The
first three quarters of the book were a brief dissection of systematic theology, much of what we have
studied in other classes, but in a more condensed form. The belief system expressed by Dr. Daniel
Thimell was no great departure from most conservative, reformed, evangelical orthodoxy except for
the addition of the Charismatic.
I believe the real meat of the book started with chapter eleven, Charismatic Ministry. Here Thimell
continues his systematic approach to the book, but now switches to the rest of the story, the work of
the Holy Spirit in our lives today. Thimell takes a very academic and cerebral approach to the gospel.
His lack of personal encounters and stories are evidence to that fact. However, this is a refreshing
approach that presents the gospel with just the basic facts and not many frills. I believe that Thimell s
purpose in writing this book was not to give an exhaustive book on Charismatic Theology, but to show
how Charismata fit within his systematic theology. Thimell showed that Charismata is not an appendix
to the Bible, but an integral and many times overlooked theology that interweaves through the whole
Bible, from Genesis to Revelation.
It seems that Dr. Thimell tries to relate to the reader on a more personal level with his connections
with Star Wars and the WWJD analogy. Both concepts are points well taken and

Pros Of Laser Surgery
The placement of the eye itself allows us to see length, depth, width, and distance of any object. The
eye is made up of three layers. The layers in particular are; the sclera, choroid, and the retina. Deriving
from website source, The sclera is a dense, white, fibrous membrane that, with the cornea, forms the
external covering of the eyeball. The choroid is like the chorion; membranous. The retina is the
innermost coat of the posterior part of the eyeball that receives the image produced by the lens, is
continuous with the optic nerve, and consists of several layers, one of which contains the rods and
cones that are sensitive to light. The sclera also maintains the shape of the eye. The sclera has muscles
attached to it that controls the movement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These views are deriving from a youtube video. A pro of laser surgery is it decreases the use of glasses
and or contact lenses. You won t have to depend on them as much. I can recall when I was in Jackson
for Blue White weekend. I didn t bring my glasses and I lost one of my contact lenses, I couldn t see
anything. I couldn t see my band, I couldn t drive back home, it was just sad. However if I would have
had a laser surgery done in the past, I wouldn t have had that problem. So that is one pro of having a
laser surgery that I can relate too. The first con of the laser eye surgery is the cost. Having a laser eye
surgery done is very expensive, so that is always a con and a big factor when it comes down to pros
and cons. Another con is that it is possible to have an eye infection in your cornea. Another con is, the
flap of your cornea that is being cut could potentially fall off. It is also possible that the cornea can
heal inappropriately. The cut can grow underneath the flap, which could cause eye problems, as well
as vision problems. Of Course there is no surgery that is completely risk free, however the eye is so
sensitive it s hard to even think about it. But this is how the eye functions, and this is all things playing

Hanger Times Gravity
Normal force is the force the surface exerts on an object and since the hanger was not on the ground
the normal force is 0. The normal force is mgcosθ because if the surface was flat the normal force
would be equal to the force of the object (mg), but since the wooden block was on an inclined plane I
had to account for the angle. To find the coefficient of friction I first found the tension in the string. I
did this by using the top equation. Sine the Fn is 0 I was left with tension (Fy) minus the mass of the
hanger times gravity = mass times acceleration (Fy mg = ma). I knew that the hanger was moving at
constant speed, so the acceleration was 0. Since the acceleration was zero I was left with tension
minus the mass of the hanger times gravity(9.8) which means the tension equals the mass of the
hanger times gravity ( Fy = 9.8 x .037 Tension = .363N).
Fy 0 9.8(.037) = .037(0)
I then substituted values into the second equation. Fx = .363 ( Tension) and 1.06124sin(29.5°) = .523 .
mg = 9.8 x .10829 = 1.06124 Fn = 1.0624cos(29.5) = .924 a = 0 ( moving at constant speed) .363
μ(.924) + .523 = 0 μ = .173 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I made the tension and the Ff (force of friction) negative because they were opposing the block s
motion. To find the angle I used trig identity. Trig identity is two equations that can only be used if an
object is moving at constant speed or on the verge of moving. Since the block was traveling at
constant speed I could use μ = tanθ or θ = inverse tangent of μ. I found μ so I did the inverse tangent
of it and found that the angle that the block would slid down at constant speed with no outside forces

The Political Structure Of Singapore
DESCRIBE THE POLITICAL STRUCTURE A. Type The Sovereign Republic of Singapore, an
island country located in the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula in Southeast Asia has a parliamentary
government with a legal system based on the English common law. The President Tony Tan Keng Yam
is the chief of state and the Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is the head of the government. Singapore
adopted its constitution in 1965, which exercises the concept of original jurisdiction. This means cases
can be presented for the first time for a hearing at a High Court. The constitution represents the
supreme law of the land. Also, in 1965, Singapore joined the United Nations. The three organs of
state, the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judiciary follow the Constitution s fundamental
principles. The Cabinet, comprised of the Executive takes care of the administration of the
government and is accountable to the Parliament. Elected by a plurality vote, the President serves for
six years. The authority responsible for enacting the legislation is the Parliament. Also, by plurality
vote and single member constituencies, citizens elect 12 members; a group representation constituency
system elects 75 members; the President nominates 9 members; and from a national compensatory list,
3 members are also appointed. The President appoints for life the Judiciary branch, which administers
justice without any influence from the other branches. Under the article 25 of the constitution, the

Facebook s War On Free Speech
In addition to supporter shaming being abundant in daily face to face interactions, social media, such
as Twitter and Facebook, become a breeding ground for supporter shaming. On Twitter, Kevin Allred,
a professor at Rutgers University, wrote, If you re white claiming being called racist for supporting
Trump is a bias incident, you ve lived the most privileged life ever! Ever! The supporter shaming on
social media, however, did not stop at the individual level; it grew to a systematic banning of vocal
and enthusiastic Trump supporters on Twitter. Charlie Nash wrote in a Breitbart article, ...It appears
that Twitter s war on free speech is directed at a specific generation of libertarians and alternative
conservative voices, many of whom are...supporters of Donald Trump...they re going after the social
network s most influential Trump supporters... While vocal Trump supporters were being banned on
Twitter, there did not seem to be an issue with death threats being posed toward Donald Trump and his
supporters, seeing as composers of such tweets were not banned. This type of behavior, engaged in by
social media platforms, made political discourse hostile, but the opposite should be the goal of such
media platforms. It should be a duty of the media to encourage political discourse and to encourage
people to actively participate in politics, since it affects everyone, not to punish those who have
opposing beliefs. The supporter shaming did not end with face to face

Listening Is A Key Part Of Encoding And Decoding The Message
What is active listening, it the process of information, which uses all of our senses to convey a
message through perceiving of sound? Our, hearing, smell, taste and touch are part of our senses that
we sometimes use without knowing we are doing it. Moreover, listening correctly, can be a crucial
part of encoding and decoding the message, for clarification and understanding what the message is
conveying. While deciphering messages, you get a sense of understanding what the message is trying
to express. Next, is trying to remember or recall what the message is so that you can retain it. Also,
evaluating what you hear and decoded or deciphered it is essential to understanding what the message
is. When we actively listen, there is some paraphrasing during this process, where you have to restate
the information given by the speaker into your own words. Lastly, responding to the message with an
answer, it could be for learning purposes, personal, enjoyment or even employment, it is important to
listen to ensure understanding actively. As we respond, there is an answer and feedback given (DeVito
2016) as a response. RELATE Do you or does someone you know ever send solution messages when
attempting to communicate your understanding? Yes, I do have that special someone who has helped
me through my countless academic problems. I am fortunate to have a wonderful man in my life, who

Sociological Analysis Of The Blind Side
Looking at Sean Jr. from The Blind Side Introduction In this paper, I will be looking at the movie The
Blind Side and analyzing the character of Sean Jr., known in the movie also as S.J. I will be looking at
S.J. s development in Sigmund Freud s latency period and Erik Erikson s stage of Industry vs.
Inferiority. I will discuss the traditional and alternate paradigms that relate to this character in the
movie and the risk and protective factors that affect him. At the end of the paper, I will discuss why
looking at a person in all of these different aspects is important in the work of a generalist social
worker. The Theorists In our class discussion and PowerPoint, we learned that Sigmund Freud

The Root Of Beyond Petroleum
The Root of Beyond Petroleum s Issues in the face of Environmental Disasters, (Mis) Management
and their Public Image. Drilling for oil is risky business and what makes it worthwhile is the payoff.
To put it simply fossil fuels, oil and its distillates remain to be the lifeblood flowing through the veins
of a highly industrialized and demanding modern industry. Transportation, Power Generation,
Manufacturing, Motorsport, our very lives depend on oil. Arguments can be made that the most recent
disasters to befall this oil giant could have happened to any other oil company however among the far
reaching consequences of these disasters is the scrutiny that BP now finds itself under. This intense
focus continues to reveal that these accidents could have been prevented, and more importantly better
mitigated if BP had simply followed respected best practices for managing a crisis and for managing
period. BP s apparent culture of deceit and arrogance perpetuated by executive actions resulted in
negligence across the board, added to that BP s missteps in handling especially their most recent and
most deadly incident and we have mounting evidence that points to more than just bad luck being
involved. On April 10th 2010 the Deepwater Horizon oil rig off the coast of Louisiana exploded,
killing 11, injuring 17 and spewing in excess of 3 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. This
is only the most recent incident in BP s operating history, 4 years prior a corroded pipe

Descriptive Writing On The Beach
It was a hot summer day and Amanda was elated her father had agreed to take her brother and her to
the beach. Amanda took a deep breath, taking in the beautiful scent of the ocean air. She could hear
the voices of animals and the hum of pleasant conversations. Amanda glanced up at the radiant,
sapphire sky and the yellow as a lemon sun. It was a sweltering day in July and Amanda was
exhilarated that she was in the turquoise ocean. Once in a blue moon, a refreshing breeze blew by
everyone and gently shook the nearby palm trees. Amanda had on an azure swimsuit. She hastily
peeked back at her rose flip flops to ensure that her impish, youthful brother hadn t stolen them. Thank
goodness, they re still there. Amanda peered into the crystal clear salt water and saw her immature
brother gliding through the water. She examined the beach and saw her father keeping an eye on her
brother and waved at him. Her father waved back, immediately putting on a humongous smile to mask
his uneasy feelings. Amanda noticed her brother who had started swimming towards her, creating tiny
splashes and drops of water glimmered in the sunlight. Oh, no! Amanda instantaneously dove under
the water, hoping her brother would miss her and not think she was there. But it was too late, her
brother had already spotted her and was trying to make her come up for air. Ugh, well at least I tried.
He better have excellent intentions for bothering me. Amanda popped her head out of the water and

Confidentiality In A Therapeutic Relationship
Confidentiality in a therapeutic relationship can be defined as any communication, diagnosis, or
treatment between a patient and a mental health professional. Confidentiality and trust are critical
components of a good therapeutic relationship therefore, it is imperative that mental health
professionals thoroughly explain the meaning of confidentiality and disclosure clauses to their
potential clients.
Mental health professionals are often faced with the decision of having to breach confidentiality.
Unfortunately, they sometimes struggle making this decision because they know breaking
confidentiality can be detrimental to a therapeutic relationship. In addition, it may come with ethical
and legal ramifications. Therefore it is highly recommended that mental professionals seek
consultation or legal advice before disclosing clients information.
According to Texas State and Health Code, §611.002, a mental health professional mental health
professional must break confidentiality and disclosure when a client is believed to be a danger to
themselves or someone else, if child abuse or neglect is suspected the mental health professional must
report within 48 hours of first suspicion. According to the Texas Family Code, abuse is defined very
broadly in order to include the following; mental, emotional, sexual, physical, failure to provide
adequate shelter, food, or necessities.
Texas State and Health Code, §611.004 states a mental health professional may disclose confidential

had an extensive rebuttal which showed how prepared he was for the debate. Eric made a great
comparison of Columbus slave gold mine and modern day China s overworked and underpaid

While both sides did exceedingly well, the con side did just slightly better and therefore won the

Stephen on the 25th day of January, 1882, Virginia was the third child of the couple after Vanessa

academician with connections with William Thackeray, his father in law from his former marriage.

Julian and Adrian were sent to Cambridge for seeking education while Virginia was not. Leslie taught
her at home and encouraged her to read more and more. As a child, she was sexually abused by her
half brothers, George and Gerald. This has been unravelled from her autobiographical works, A Sketch
of the Past and 22 Hyde Park Gate. The visits of renowned literary figures, fellows from Cambridge,
and books from the family s well stacked library gave her an intellectual bent of mind. Her mother s
death in 1895 led to her first nervous breakdown and caused anorexia in her. Her education was halted
for two years after Julia s death because her doctor believed that her brain was using up all essential
nutrients and making her lean and sickly. However, she continued on with her books. Between 1897
and 1901, she studied Greek, German, History and Latin in King s College London. The deaths of
Stella, her surrogate mother and Julian sucked her into a vortex of depression. Leslie s death in 1904
gave Virginia another jolt from which recovery did not seem easy. Nervous disorder caused her to be

Age Of Enlightenment Vs Life Today
Age of enlightenment vs life today
Introduction
There are various eras that have been in existence since the beginning of the world. One of these
famous eras is the age of enlightenment also referred to as the age of reason or simply the
enlightenment. Age of enlightenment refers to the time that guided intellectual movements known as
The Enlightenment. We can say that in the world today, there still exists some form of enlightenment
that is going on. The enlightenment today comes from a new practices and understandings that have
been embraced in the social sector. There are some similarities and differences between the age of
enlightenment and the life today. The paper will look at how these two compare in terms of their
similarities and differences. From the comparison, there can be conclusions made on the relevance of
the enlightenment age and the life today.
Thesis
How the age of enlightenment compares to life today.
The age of enlightenment; definition and time frame The term enlightenment in English fully came
out in the 19th century later parts. There has been little consensus on the exact beginning of this age of
enlightenment whether it is at the beginning of the 18th century which is 1701 or at the middle of the
17th century which is 1650. Therefore, it is approximated that the age of enlightenment started in
1650s and went through 1780s (Wellesz, and Frederick 489). It is during this age that the intellectual
and cultural forces within Western Europe put an

The intertwined nature of poverty and education, as well as the interplay between the two has
constantly been raised in the literature and research of development (Arnove1980; Deininger 2000;
Don 2001 Torres 2003), inter alia in search of the way for achieving universal primary education
(UPE) in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). It is also the focus of international cooperation
since UPE is one of the major objectives of international development aid (Aiglepierre Wagner 2013).
The year of 2015 is approaching but the issues such as global poverty and education inequality still

Others such as the World System theory and Dependency theory, see education as an instrument used
by the developed/core countries to penetrate western ideology and values into the
developing/periphery or semi periphery countries as part of the process of exploitation, which worsens
the condition of poverty so the poor remains poor.
To be specific and explicit, the Modernisation theory emerged in the late 1950s claiming that to
improve living standards, leaving poverty and backwardness behind, traditional societies or low
income countries have to learn from and adapt to the values held by the modern western countries
(Fagerlind Saha 1989; Matunhu 2011). The ideas of becoming modern are strongly associated with the
promotion of Westernisation or colonisation as well as the development of dependency between rich
and poor countries (Don 2001, p. 617 618). If we accept this premise, education was considered by
this theory to be endowed with a pivotal role because of its ability to diffuse western values and
knowledge. It was considered a great contribution to the economic productivity in the growth process,
especially of developing countries (Arnove1980, p.48). Some of the proponents of modernisation
theory believe that some unenlightened countries have already benefited a lot from learning about the
successful western model of

Disadvantages Of Multicultural Marriage
Being born in the 21st century, we are exposed to many new concepts in the society. The concept of
family also changed as well as time passes; people nowadays have better understanding towards non
traditional families such as transsexual or homosexual marriage.
I used to think that it is better to form family or find spouses with the same nationality (i.e. Chinese)
and similar cultural background, as this can foster better understanding between one and another.
However, it is now a common practise and phenomenon to see multicultural marriage and families in
a cosmopolitan society like Hong Kong. We are lucky to be given many opportunities to be in touch
with people with different cultural background, no matter in our learning environment such as
exchange programmes or study tour, or in workplace like joining business tours.
Such a phenomenon is also reflected in other Asian countries like Korea in the film Punch , the main

The Ones Who Walk Away From The By Ursula Le Guin
The topic of Ursula Le Guin s short story The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas is of
conscientiousness. The theme revolves around how people are often willing to excuse awful things if
it s for their own gain. The first element that led me to the theme is the tone of the story. Specifically,
the clashing of the tones between the narrator is describing the city of Omelas and when they are
describing the child and the room he/she is kept in. When describing the city, the tone is very bright
and exultant; the narrator tries their best to make this place sound like the utopia it supposedly is: With
a clamor of bells that set the swallows soaring, the Festival of Summer came to the city Omelas, bright
towered by the sea. The rigging of the boats in harbor sparkled with flags. In the streets between
houses with red roofs and painted walls, between old moss grown gardens and under avenues of trees,
past great parks and public buildings, processions moved, (Guin 1). The picture that is painted here is
one of pure bliss, almost fairy tale like cheerfulness. This is in stark contrast to the dark and dismal
way that the child and the room that they are kept in is described: The floor is dirt, a little damp to the
touch, as cellar dirt usually is. The room is about three paces long and two wide.... The people at the
door never say anything, but the child, who has not always lived in the tool room, and can remember
sunlight and its mother s voice, sometimes speaks. I will be good, it

Education Is Not A Finite Subject
Education is not a finite subject, but an ever expanding conglomerate. Today we view success as going
to school, getting a job, and having a family as success in the system. Schools see grades as progress
of education. One has to know all options and succeed in truly understanding the subject that interests
them the most. Jumping forward a couple of centuries kids are told to not major in art because it will
not financially sustain them. It is too unstable and unpredictable. If we go through life learning things
we aren t passionate about, then where is the fulfillment? Education thrives on being a habit,
something that doesn t want to or need to stop. This is a different view then what letter is on the paper

With the help of an education, anyone can seek their interest. People choose their own directions in
life with this; they can set goals for themselves and make great efforts to achieve them. Education is
surrounding all aspects of life and is transferred from one generation to another. So, if the present
generation is educated, the forthcoming one is to be even more educated. Our generations will lead the
society and country. Education has been recognized as the priority area since it improves the lives of
others. People learn today, but tomorrow they will either lead or teach.
Globally speaking, people lacking proper education generally cannot differentiate between right and
wrong. They can be misguided unless guided correctly through education. The impacts on the entire
globe are very apparent and crucial. People can become a troublesome element to the rest of the world
if not properly taken care of. Thus, the accessibility and affordability of an education are significant to
global development. There have been an increased number of juveniles who, before being sentenced,

increasingly jumped to fifty percent. According to Sturove, correctional facilities contain more than

Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee Case Study
The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee was founded in 1960, this organization was a civil
rights group made up of African American college students. With the midwife of this organization Ella
Baker s decentralized leadership, and participatory democracy they adhered to the ideology of
nonviolence. The SNCC was at the center of a movement that changed the nation, but as time went
they abandoned the use of nonviolence and the ideal of interracial collaboration transforming from a
beloved community, changing to black power, due to events taken place eventually some of its
members would have to leave.
The SNCC organization was first made up of African American college students but after the launch
of the front counter sit in movement they gain support from many others to include non students,
whites, northerners, and southerners that became members. The SNCC participated in many
movements, the Freedom Rides gaining attention after their integrated bus was mobbed by over 1,000
white racist, hospitalizing all that was on the bus. They established projects in areas such as
Mississippi which was considered too dangerous by other organizations and the SNCC was soon
viewed as the shock troops (Carson, p. 3).

Analysis Of Waking Sleeping Beauty
Rafiki, the wise baboon from The Lion King, explains to Simba that the past can hurt. But the way I
see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it. Rafiki teaches Simba a valuable lesson: to use other
peoples mistakes to avoid making the same ones; when people reflect on their past and are willing to
confront the mistakes head on, they can be very successful. Waking Sleeping Beauty gives viewers an
inside look from 1984 to 1994 when Disney reached the peak of The Disney Renaissance during this
period of time, Disney produced some of their best animated movies. Although Disney was successful
during this era, it took a lot of work for them to get to that stage. During the late 1960s and early
1970s, Disney was put into shambles due to the death of Walt Disney and his brother, Roy Disney.
Simultaneously, Disney produced The Black Cauldron which proved to be a failure; not only was it
expensive and made little return, it was beat out in the box office by The Care Bears Movie which was
an embarrassment for Disney Animation Studios. At this point in time Disney was a hopeless,
downwards spiral on its way towards bankruptcy. Disney needed a leader that was willing to take
charge and restore the company to its magical ways and beyond. Ultimately, Waking Sleeping Beauty
answers the following question: After their downfall, how was Disney able to recover and produce
successful movies in the 1980s and 1990s? The documentary has several responses to this question,
but its main focus explains that Disney was able to thrive once again by hiring new personnel in
leadership positions who were willing to lead Disney into The Disney Renaissance . By hiring Frank
Wells as Disney s COO and President, Michael Eisner as CEO and Chairman, and Jeffrey Katzenberg
as head of the film division, Disney was able to begin the transition from their greatest downfall to
their greatest success. These three men were ready to lead the company to avoid the same mistakes it
had made in the past. Although, Disney was looking to hire new leaders to steer the company into the
right direction, they wanted to make sure that the new personnel was qualified and fit for the job.
When it came time to hire Eisner, Schneider, a Disney s first

How Did George Orwell Influence Business
George Orwell lived through a decent and normal childhood; however, his childhood was influential
to his life. Incidents that occurred later in his life eventually fine tuned the opinions he formed as a
child. These opinions made Orwell recognizable, for his political views determined the plot and
allegory of his famous novels such as Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty four. George Orwell s beliefs
impacted his business life and personal life alike.
George Orwell lived a semi comfortable childhood with his mother and sister in England. Eric Arthur

Instead, he decided to follow in his father s footsteps and serve in the Indian Imperial Force, where
Blair formed opinions on Britain s widely controversial imperialism actions. He served from 1922
1927 in Burma. While on leave in England in 1927, Blair decided to pursue his adolescent dream, a
career in writing, and resigned from the force. He had realized that the army unfairly oppressed the
Burmese people due to their race and social status which caused him shame and disappointment.
Because he felt guilty from the occurrences of repression due to imperialism, race, and the class

Compare And Contrast The Blind Side And Michael Oher
On a Friday night, Mary asked, Girls, what movie should we watch? The Blind Side or Soul Surfer?
Replied Sarah, Both are similar! Alisha responded with disavow, No, they re two different films. The
Blind Side and Soul Surfer are both Hollywood movies that are based on actual events that had
happened to Michael Oher and Bethany Hamilton during their teenage years. Furthermore, The Blind
Side is a 2009 American biographical sports film directed by John Lee Hancock and based on the
2006 book The Blind Side by Michael Lewis, which describes the true story of Michael Oher, a

While in Soul Surfer , all people seemed to know each other which indicated that everybody was
living equally for the movie did not exhibit a difference in classes between people and you can notice
that as everyone came to visit her from her town. In the first movie, family did not seem to take a huge
part from Michael s life for he did not have any family member to count on in the beginning; however,
towards the end of the movie, Michael found himself a family that cared about him and helped him
graduate high school. Whereas in the second movie, Bethany s family seemed to have a significant
role in her life for they encouraged and strengthened her to overcome the tribulation since the start.
Even though Bethany did not wait for anyone to aide her to get back up on her feet and be a champion
like she one was for she was determined, Michael s life and fate demanded him to have somebody to
help him achieve his goals. Similarly, both movies address an important message which is no matter

O, N, And B. D. H. J. T s Mutation
One day after setting up the replica plates, we observed thick growth in all the intersections of Min +
His and thick growth everywhere the strains were placed (see figure above), which suggests that the
matings and the cellular transfer were successful, respectively. We observed thick growth on the min
plate at intersection of P and his1, P and his4, and P and his5 while observing no growth on his3 and P,
which suggest P s mutation is within the same gene as his2. For the sake of space, see table Min Plate
Intersectional Growth for O, N, and Y stains complementation test. Therefore, we conclude that P s
mutation is in the same gene as his3, O s mutation is in the same gene as his1, N s mutation is in the

She argues that although the founding members of female religious orders were often close . . . four
women who were sisters in blood, as well as religion, made for a particularly united front. This unity
inevitably contributed to both the congregation and the colony s success. Javouhey s brother, Pierre
Javouhey, and her cousins, Louis and Léopold Javouhey, all accompanied her to French Guiana.
Javouhey attempted to place her male relatives in positions that provided her with allies while giving
them work. For example, in 1839, she wrote to the Minister of the Navy, naming Louis Javouhey and
his two sons as her aides. Javouhey s use of family structure to accomplish her goals extended beyond
her blood. During both her attempts at colonizing Mana, in her letters and reports, she frequently
referred to the colonists as members of [her] family. Commenting on the utility and authority familial
hierarchies, she stated, La loi eût échoué faute d être comprise et d avoir trop souvent à punir là où l

Javouhey both addressed and treated the slaves under her authority as her adoptive children. As the

loyalty within them. By December of 1828, mere months after her arrival in French Guiana, she noted
that if anyone outside of the Sœurs de Saint Joseph de Cluny were to attempt to replace her at Mana, it

Individual Differences Among People Are What Defines The...
Individual differences among people are what defines the boundaries of personality. Personality
psychology discusses emotionality with general focuses on its involvement with the emotional mind
and its portrayal in the outside world. According to the literature, emotionality includes a variety of
contexts, almost exclusively referring to the social relationships and maturation of children and
adolescents. Often in the discussions on emotionality, there is a connection to the Big Five trait,
neuroticism. In this account, a comparative approach to both the biological perspective and the
evolutionary perspective will be assessed, as well as an evaluation of the trait evident in my personal
life. Ultimately, the intent of this report is to adequately define the trait and its relevance to personality
psychology, while also mentioning the theoretical and empirical literature of the development of the
trait in individuals. It will also discuss the maturation of the trait within myself and its connection to
the biological and evolutionary perspectives in respect to the views and applications of the trait
currently in use in the field of psychology.
Trait Definition As with many terms in the field of psychology, the operational definition for
emotionality is unclear, yet there are many themes that have expressed a general consensus for the
trait. Some definitions propose a connection of emotionality with arousal. Others have determined that

Renaissance Corporation Limited
Renaissance has been a publicly listed company in New
Zealand since 1968. Though the company has existed in many forms, its current name was adopted in
1997, at which time key business concentrations were also developed. It functions along three key
business streams:
(1) distribution, (2) education, and (3) e business. The company has built a successful information
technology distribution business with a number of leading international brands.
Renaissance has, in the past, had exclusive distribution rights for Apple computer products in New
Zealand. However, the global policy of the computer manufacturer now prohibits exclusive deals.
Though exclusivity is no longer possible, Renaissance is still the sole wholesale distributor for Apple
locally.
The manufacturer has not moved to cultivate relationships with other New Zealand distributors and
has expressed no intention to do so in the future, in spite of the fact that it has done so elsewhere in the
world. Sole distributorship of
Apple products provides Renaissance with a degree of credibility in the market.

Psycho Movie Psychology
The suspenseful TV series, Bates Motel, shocked a multitude of Hitchcock fans last May with the
death of Norma Bates. It was well known from the 1960 film, Psycho, the death of the beloved lead
actress was inevitable from the start, but the bold move of how early it actually was has left many
anticipating the return of the fifth season. The creation of such a mind boggling TV prequel to
Hitchcock s 1960 hit film, Psycho, was well thought out through its grand acting performances from
both lead actor and actress (Highmore and Farmiga), its artful directing taste, and its insanely
insightful character development. There are a few questions that arise about how realistic it is and how
the setting doesn t line up with the original movie. All in all, it is a thrilling, thought provoking show
that lets the audience see how Norman Bates s personality disorder actually developed over time.
Many may remember the movie, Psycho, as the classic horror film that had an iconic shower stabbing
scene. The movie is about an eerily creepy man named Norman Bates who at times believes he is his
deceased mother, Norma Bates. When he is Norma, he murders beautiful women that check into the
Bates Motel. The TV series is set as a prequel to Psycho and begins in the modern day with a

grow to be just darkness to his mother talking to him to him actually becoming his homicidal mother.

Edison believed that the phonograph would have a positive effect on business, culture, and education.
Out of the invention of the phonograph, three distinct qualities were discovered of recorded music:
portability, affordability, and repeatability. Thanks to the phonograph and its portability, Americans
could hear the classics through recordings since professional musicians never ventured to the rural
areas. Portability would have meant nothing if not for its affordability. In 1890 the cost of the
phonograph was $40, and by the 1900 s it was reduced down to five dollars. Poor blacks could also
afford the phonograph, and in their minds it was a way to try and achieve equalities among whites by
listening and learning their culture. Repeatability was believed to serve two main functions: to single
out the good music versus the bad and to help listeners to appreciate the art of the classics. Due to the
fact that recording music had a maximum of three to four minutes, musicians had to drastically cut the
time of their music to make more money. The phonograph was later called a gramophone and then it
was known as the wax cylinder. The phonograph went out of style when the FM radio was invented
and spread throughout American homes.

Reflection On Present Day By Solnit
We as a society are Connected to death, to fear, to the unknown, but in being so connected one could
feel empathy, passion, and heroism as well (Solnit, 55) . Solnit is speaking of the tragedy of the 9/11
attacks in 2001. A life altering event for our entire nation struck in a blink of an eye. The same
reaction spread with school shootings such as Columbine and Sandy Hook. We, as a nation, bond over
tragedy and failure in order to boost back morale, strength, and hope. Solnit, in this section of reading,
focuses on the act of togetherness, from 9/11 to the Zapatistas, to present day. Time and time again our
society is shown to thrive amongst our walls in the act of togetherness, producing more hope, reason,

Role Of Thought Police In George Orwell s 1984
The novel 1984 written by Gorge Orwell is a satire about the socialist dictatorships of Russia and
Germany. 1984 was written as a look into the future if political powers adopted a totalitarian
government. The Government of 1984 is a totalitarian socialist dictatorship. The names of the
government system are INGSOC or The Party. The totalitarian dictatorship, INGSOC, maintains and
abuses power through the Thought Police, newspeak, and technology. The Thought Police are
members of The Party who watched everybody all the time to see if they are acting against The Party
(Orwell 3). Thought crimes include thinking an anti Party thought, writing in a journal, and physically
acting against The Party. Thought Police help INGSOC maintain power because anyone who goes
against The Party, even thinks an anti party thought, will be vaporized or tortured into supporting the
government. INGSOC and the Thought Police encouraged children to turn in their parents for thought

changing definitions of words. A definition change makes words only be useable in certain context

Vitamin C Essay
A question that is commonly asked when receiving a virus is, what is the fastest way to get rid of it?
No human enjoys the presence of a common cold, despite more extreme terms such as the flu. Rest

Vitamin C is very essential to our bodies. Vitamin C helps the body to maintain its collective tissues.
This also includes our bones, blood vessels, and skin. Vitamin C is scientifically known as L ascorbic

How Failure Can Impact A Children s View On Intelligence
Parents and Education: How Failure Can Impact a Children s View on Intelligence
There are a lot of factors that play a role in how a child performs in the educational realm. A major
influencer is the role that a parent plays in their child s education specifically how the parent views
failure. In this article, Parents Views of Failure Predict Children s Fixed and Growth Intelligence Mind
Sets by Kyla Haimovitz and Carol S. Dweck, the question is if a parent s specific response to failure
impacts the child s belief in whether intelligence is malleable or fixed. The article cites research done

The study gathered 100 participants that were in 4th 5th grade, an average age of 11, and over half
female. The participant location was three schools in the San Francisco Area. Parental consent was
given. The questionnaire used to measure the intelligence mindset was identical to the one used in
Study One. They also measured the children s view of how their parent s perceived failure by a two
question survey: my parents think failure can help me learn and my parents think failure is bad and
should be avoided (Haimovitz and Dweck 2016). The results of the study were that the reports done
by the children on their parent s failure mindset predicted their own belief in either a fixed or growth
mindset. Based off of the findings of these three studies, a parent s failure mindset has an effect on a
children s view of intelligence more so than the parent s own view on intelligence. In a failure
debilitating mindset, a child is more than likely to believe that their intelligence, or intelligence in
general, is fixed and cannot be improved. This mindset manifests itself due to several factors that were
studied during the experiment. First the failure mindset of a parent is more visible to the child than
their intelligence mindset. Because of this visibility, a failure debilitating mindset of a parent will have
a greater impact on their child than they

Social Factors Affecting The Mortality Burden Of...
Toronto in 1902 was a city on the cusp of transformation. It was a city marked, like many large
Western cities by the high probability of death at a young age. At this time period life in large cities
was characterized by many deaths due to infectious disease. According to the death records collected
from the year 1902 to 1904 by the city of Toronto, 8.1% of the total population died from
gastroenteritis or typhoid. For the purposes of comparison, it is important to note that the mortality
burden of all infectious diseases at this time period was extremely high, with these cases making up to
41.3% of the total population mortality. There were numerous social conditions that affected this
reality, and in this particular case study, had the power to either increase or decrease the mortality
burdens of infectious disease. These social factors will be further studied in the paper, and they
include, but are not limited to: housing, socioeconomic status, diet, age, water quality, waste
management, hygiene, rapid industrialization, increased population growth, immigration, scientific
advancements, increased classification and record keeping, and the role of government. The common
thread between all of these realms and typhoid, is the focus of this paper: public health. It is because
of the particularly high rate of infection and death due to typhoid and gastroenteritis that I have chosen
to study this particular disease over other options present in the data sample. This paper

Distribution Channels and Consumer Adoption
3. THEORY AND LITERATURE REVIEW
This chapter will present the theoretical framework used in this master´s thesis. This chapter gives an
overview of theories explaining distribution channels and consumer adoption. Ending with a literature
review in financial service research, a research area closely related to digital receipts.
3.1. Distribution channels
A distribution chain also known as value chain can be described as a set of interdependent
organizations or businesses involved in making a product or service available, from producer to end
customer (Kotler, et al., 2012).
The function of the value chain is to contribute with cost efficient activities and simplify the purchase
process (Coughlan et al., 2006). But if the chain consists of many actors the ones far back could have
limited or no contact with customers resulting in lost of valuable information (REF).
According to Bucklin (1966) it s important to understand customer preferences when designing the
value chain. This because the value chain will only be viable over time if customers feel that it
provides a form of value. This value is created if the actors of the chain provide activities that result in
cost efficiency and/ or better service. There are five service performance areas where actors can create
this value: unit size, availability, waiting time, variation in production and information (REF).
When designing value chains one must take into account three important dimensions. These are: 1) the
length

Kinsey s View Of Eugenics
In the article, author Vern L. Bullough provided an in depth look at the research done by sexologist
Alfred Kinsey and explaining the contributions he made in the field. The article claimed how Kinsey
studied taboo topics and interviewed his students about their lives, a practice never conceived of being
done before. The author explained how Kinsley s controversial work was challenged by Thurman
Rice, a, bacteriology professor who had written extensively on sex, primarily from the view of
eugenics (Bullough 56). These claims were meant to display how society viewed sex as a topic that
was not an area of interest for many, but the research done by Kinsley helped push the boundary on
the topic and inspire other sexologists to pursue the field. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using the findings from other professionals in the field, he made his arguments more convincing
since he could point to where his logic came from. In one instance, he used a citation from psychiatric
Karl Menninger to display how his views were scrutinized by others. Menninger believed that Kinsley
s, compulsion to force human sexual behavior in zoological frame of reference leads him to repudiate
or neglect human psychology, and to see normality as that which is natural in the sense that it is what
is practiced by animals (58). This was the only quote directly from someone in the field, but it was
effective in displaying how Kinsley s theories were revolutionary to how the study was sexuality was
approached. The evidence used in the article was both convincing and relevant to the topic at hand.
Bullough knew how to effectively use praise and criticism for Kinsley s actions to describe how his
practices were viewed as a

Alex Janco
Started at the Newspaper and Now We re Here
Sometimes where we think we would go isn t always where we end up, nonetheless we can still be
very successful. A prime example of this would be Alex Janco, an English teacher (previously a sports
journalist) who is currently working at St. Joseph Highschool in Westchester, IL.
Reminiscing on his childhood Janco says, My dream growing up was to play 2nd base for the Red Sox
(but not extremely good at it) so I took my love for sports and I was always a good writer as a kid and
liked to write, so I put writing and sports together...and became a sports writer. Janco mentions that he
always knew he would be a teacher, even before being a Journalist or going to college. Journalism was
just one of those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While he only stayed there for three years he did have an interesting story as to why he left.
My 2nd to last day, the reason I do not work there anymore. This girl who was suspended somehow
got into the school (with two other girls) and their intent was to beat a girl up to death. It was a three
vs. three fight, with me and one other male security guard in that hallway.
Janco goes on to explain how he was trying to push apart and hold some girls back but he struggled
with one of them. This was until the male security guard made a comment of taking her down to
which Janco was then able to throw her onto her side.
When it was all over he realized that the girl (who was 300 plus pounds) had fallen onto his wrist
which was extremely swollen. Janco says that the school almost made him pay for the medical bills
until he put his foot down and said he would sue if he paid.
In 2012 he transferred to St. Joseph Highschool where he currently teaches English. After the mess
that Proviso West was he says he feels much more secure where he is saying, At West I felt like a
prison warden, at St.Joes I feel like a

Essay On Prenatal Care
I have worked as a nurse in obstetrics for over 20 years. I was not surprised by the findings revealed in
the Milligan article. The article provided barriers and motivations for women to receive prenatal care.
The first barrier identified was drug abuse. Many of these women choose to not get any prenatal care
or enter prenatal care very late in their pregnancy because they are scared they will have their baby
taken from them. Some of these women will attempt to get clean themselves. They are unaware that
detoxing during pregnancy is extremely dangerous. The risk for intrauterine fetal death is very high
and they need to be monitored very closely while being detoxed. This article also reveals that a
supportive partner is seen as an important motivator for the patient (Milligan, 2002). I completely
agree! No one wants to feel alone when they are pregnant. These patients need a support person
because they are at an increase risk of noncompliance. They need daily encouragement and they need
someone who will help hold them accountable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It saddens me to read how so many patients have limited access to services due to their ethnic
background. While our nation is known for its diversity, we still have so many patients being denied
access to services because they are not proficient in the English language. This article reinforces how
culture and beliefs play a large role in establishing what is normal for a particular ethnic group. Each
culture may view and deal with a situation differently or find certain means more acceptable than
others. As providers, it is essential that we understand these variances to help minimize inequalities
between cultures. This article highlights how every patient deserves to be treated equally and have
equal access to services and

Besides prosperity, EU citizens reap the benefits of social values, democracy and a healthy
environment. The EU strives hard to bring its influence to the rest of the world through investment
and trade, by maintaining diplomatic relations and by providing humanitarian aid to many developing
countries. EU is one of the major political, economic and diplomatic forces in the world today, with
the ability to have a major impact on global affairs.
EUROPEAN UNION INSTITUTIONS
The tasks of EU are managed by a number of key bodies, which include:
Five institutions The European Commission (EU s executive body) The European Parliament (elected
by the citizens of the Member States) The Council of the European Union (representing the
governments of the Member States) The European Court of Justice (ensuring compliance with EU
law) The European Court of Auditors (ensuring sound and lawful management of the EU budget).
These institutions are advised by the European Council (Heads of State and Government of EU
Member States) and assisted by two advisory bodies: The Committee of the Regions (expresses the
opinions of regional and local authorities) The European Economic and Social Committee (expresses
the opinions of organised civil society on economic and social issues)
There are further more important bodies: European

A Comparison Of Identity Crisis
Personal Reactions: I agree with Mr. Erik Erikson when he said Everybody has heard of identity crisis
and it arouses a mixture of curiosity, mirth, and discomfort which yet promises, by the very play on
the word crisis, not to turn out to be something quite as fatal as it sounds . When I hear the word crisis
I think the worse depending on the situation as an example mid life crisis. I see someone who is in a
middle age group but they not considered an elderly person along with them not being considered a
young person. I think of this person seeing themselves as being old and doing stuff to help them feel
younger by wearing clothes that the younger people wear, change their hair color, buy a sports car,
buy a motorcycle, go to the clubs, and hangout with younger people. Some people feel like they didn t
accomplish enough stuff by this particular age and try to change that by doing those things to help
them feel better with their accomplishments in life. I agree with Mr. Erik Erikson when he described
the patients who was in the war being shellshocked, nor becomes malingerers, but had through the
exigencies of war lost a sense of personal sameness and historical continuity . I know a lot of people
who say their love ones that returned from the war came back as a different person. Their love ones
suffered from paranoia and have problems with adjusting to the civilian life due to their traumatic
experiences in the war. They battle with trying to figure out what is real and

  • 2. A Summary On Charismatic Faith And Ministry Summary of Charismatic Faith and Ministry Charismatic Faith and Ministry is a comprehensive book of Charismatic Systematic Theology. The first three quarters of the book were a brief dissection of systematic theology, much of what we have studied in other classes, but in a more condensed form. The belief system expressed by Dr. Daniel Thimell was no great departure from most conservative, reformed, evangelical orthodoxy except for the addition of the Charismatic. I believe the real meat of the book started with chapter eleven, Charismatic Ministry. Here Thimell continues his systematic approach to the book, but now switches to the rest of the story, the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives today. Thimell takes a very academic and cerebral approach to the gospel. His lack of personal encounters and stories are evidence to that fact. However, this is a refreshing approach that presents the gospel with just the basic facts and not many frills. I believe that Thimell s purpose in writing this book was not to give an exhaustive book on Charismatic Theology, but to show how Charismata fit within his systematic theology. Thimell showed that Charismata is not an appendix to the Bible, but an integral and many times overlooked theology that interweaves through the whole Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. It seems that Dr. Thimell tries to relate to the reader on a more personal level with his connections with Star Wars and the WWJD analogy. Both concepts are points well taken and ... • 3. Pros Of Laser Surgery The placement of the eye itself allows us to see length, depth, width, and distance of any object. The eye is made up of three layers. The layers in particular are; the sclera, choroid, and the retina. Deriving from website source, The sclera is a dense, white, fibrous membrane that, with the cornea, forms the external covering of the eyeball. The choroid is like the chorion; membranous. The retina is the innermost coat of the posterior part of the eyeball that receives the image produced by the lens, is continuous with the optic nerve, and consists of several layers, one of which contains the rods and cones that are sensitive to light. The sclera also maintains the shape of the eye. The sclera has muscles attached to it that controls the movement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These views are deriving from a youtube video. A pro of laser surgery is it decreases the use of glasses and or contact lenses. You won t have to depend on them as much. I can recall when I was in Jackson for Blue White weekend. I didn t bring my glasses and I lost one of my contact lenses, I couldn t see anything. I couldn t see my band, I couldn t drive back home, it was just sad. However if I would have had a laser surgery done in the past, I wouldn t have had that problem. So that is one pro of having a laser surgery that I can relate too. The first con of the laser eye surgery is the cost. Having a laser eye surgery done is very expensive, so that is always a con and a big factor when it comes down to pros and cons. Another con is that it is possible to have an eye infection in your cornea. Another con is, the flap of your cornea that is being cut could potentially fall off. It is also possible that the cornea can heal inappropriately. The cut can grow underneath the flap, which could cause eye problems, as well as vision problems. Of Course there is no surgery that is completely risk free, however the eye is so sensitive it s hard to even think about it. But this is how the eye functions, and this is all things playing into the Chemistry of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Hanger Times Gravity Normal force is the force the surface exerts on an object and since the hanger was not on the ground the normal force is 0. The normal force is mgcosθ because if the surface was flat the normal force would be equal to the force of the object (mg), but since the wooden block was on an inclined plane I had to account for the angle. To find the coefficient of friction I first found the tension in the string. I did this by using the top equation. Sine the Fn is 0 I was left with tension (Fy) minus the mass of the hanger times gravity = mass times acceleration (Fy mg = ma). I knew that the hanger was moving at constant speed, so the acceleration was 0. Since the acceleration was zero I was left with tension minus the mass of the hanger times gravity(9.8) which means the tension equals the mass of the hanger times gravity ( Fy = 9.8 x .037 Tension = .363N). Fy 0 9.8(.037) = .037(0) I then substituted values into the second equation. Fx = .363 ( Tension) and 1.06124sin(29.5°) = .523 . mg = 9.8 x .10829 = 1.06124 Fn = 1.0624cos(29.5) = .924 a = 0 ( moving at constant speed) .363 μ(.924) + .523 = 0 μ = .173 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I made the tension and the Ff (force of friction) negative because they were opposing the block s motion. To find the angle I used trig identity. Trig identity is two equations that can only be used if an object is moving at constant speed or on the verge of moving. Since the block was traveling at constant speed I could use μ = tanθ or θ = inverse tangent of μ. I found μ so I did the inverse tangent of it and found that the angle that the block would slid down at constant speed with no outside forces was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Political Structure Of Singapore DESCRIBE THE POLITICAL STRUCTURE A. Type The Sovereign Republic of Singapore, an island country located in the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula in Southeast Asia has a parliamentary government with a legal system based on the English common law. The President Tony Tan Keng Yam is the chief of state and the Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is the head of the government. Singapore adopted its constitution in 1965, which exercises the concept of original jurisdiction. This means cases can be presented for the first time for a hearing at a High Court. The constitution represents the supreme law of the land. Also, in 1965, Singapore joined the United Nations. The three organs of state, the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judiciary follow the Constitution s fundamental principles. The Cabinet, comprised of the Executive takes care of the administration of the government and is accountable to the Parliament. Elected by a plurality vote, the President serves for six years. The authority responsible for enacting the legislation is the Parliament. Also, by plurality vote and single member constituencies, citizens elect 12 members; a group representation constituency system elects 75 members; the President nominates 9 members; and from a national compensatory list, 3 members are also appointed. The President appoints for life the Judiciary branch, which administers justice without any influence from the other branches. Under the article 25 of the constitution, the President of ... • 6. Facebook s War On Free Speech In addition to supporter shaming being abundant in daily face to face interactions, social media, such as Twitter and Facebook, become a breeding ground for supporter shaming. On Twitter, Kevin Allred, a professor at Rutgers University, wrote, If you re white claiming being called racist for supporting Trump is a bias incident, you ve lived the most privileged life ever! Ever! The supporter shaming on social media, however, did not stop at the individual level; it grew to a systematic banning of vocal and enthusiastic Trump supporters on Twitter. Charlie Nash wrote in a Breitbart article, ...It appears that Twitter s war on free speech is directed at a specific generation of libertarians and alternative conservative voices, many of whom are...supporters of Donald Trump...they re going after the social network s most influential Trump supporters... While vocal Trump supporters were being banned on Twitter, there did not seem to be an issue with death threats being posed toward Donald Trump and his supporters, seeing as composers of such tweets were not banned. This type of behavior, engaged in by social media platforms, made political discourse hostile, but the opposite should be the goal of such media platforms. It should be a duty of the media to encourage political discourse and to encourage people to actively participate in politics, since it affects everyone, not to punish those who have opposing beliefs. The supporter shaming did not end with face to face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also, evaluating what you hear and decoded or deciphered it is essential to understanding what the message is. When we actively listen, there is some paraphrasing during this process, where you have to restate the information given by the speaker into your own words. Drilling for oil is risky business and what makes it worthwhile is the payoff. To put it simply fossil fuels, oil and its distillates remain to be the lifeblood flowing through the veins of a highly industrialized and demanding modern industry. Transportation, Power Generation, Manufacturing, Motorsport, our very lives depend on oil. Arguments can be made that the most recent disasters to befall this oil giant could have happened to any other oil company however among the far reaching consequences of these disasters is the scrutiny that BP now finds itself under. This intense focus continues to reveal that these accidents could have been prevented, and more importantly better mitigated if BP had simply followed respected best practices for managing a crisis and for managing period. To be specific and explicit, the Modernisation theory emerged in the late 1950s claiming that to improve living standards, leaving poverty and backwardness behind, traditional societies or low income countries have to learn from and adapt to the values held by the modern western countries (Fagerlind Saha 1989; Matunhu 2011). The ideas of becoming modern are strongly associated with the promotion of Westernisation or colonisation as well as the development of dependency between rich and poor countries (Don 2001, p. 617 618). If we accept this premise, education was considered by this theory to be endowed with a pivotal role because of its ability to diffuse western values and knowledge. The theme revolves around how people are often willing to excuse awful things if it s for their own gain. The first element that led me to the theme is the tone of the story. Specifically, the clashing of the tones between the narrator is describing the city of Omelas and when they are describing the child and the room he/she is kept in. When describing the city, the tone is very bright and exultant; the narrator tries their best to make this place sound like the utopia it supposedly is: With a clamor of bells that set the swallows soaring, the Festival of Summer came to the city Omelas, bright towered by the sea. The rigging of the boats in harbor sparkled with flags. In the streets between houses with red roofs and painted walls, between old moss grown gardens and under avenues of trees, past great parks and public buildings, processions moved, (Guin 1). The picture that is painted here is one of pure bliss, almost fairy tale like cheerfulness. This is in stark contrast to the dark and dismal way that the child and the room that they are kept in is described: The floor is dirt, a little damp to the touch, as cellar dirt usually is. The room is about three paces long and two wide.... Although Disney was successful during this era, it took a lot of work for them to get to that stage. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Disney was put into shambles due to the death of Walt Disney and his brother, Roy Disney. Simultaneously, Disney produced The Black Cauldron which proved to be a failure; not only was it expensive and made little return, it was beat out in the box office by The Care Bears Movie which was an embarrassment for Disney Animation Studios. At this point in time Disney was a hopeless, downwards spiral on its way towards bankruptcy. It was well known from the 1960 film, Psycho, the death of the beloved lead actress was inevitable from the start, but the bold move of how early it actually was has left many anticipating the return of the fifth season. The creation of such a mind boggling TV prequel to Hitchcock s 1960 hit film, Psycho, was well thought out through its grand acting performances from both lead actor and actress (Highmore and Farmiga), its artful directing taste, and its insanely insightful character development. There are a few questions that arise about how realistic it is and how the setting doesn t line up with the original movie. All in all, it is a thrilling, thought provoking show that lets the audience see how Norman Bates s personality disorder actually developed over time. Many may remember the movie, Psycho, as the classic horror film that had an iconic shower stabbing scene. The movie is about an eerily creepy man named Norman Bates who at times believes he is his deceased mother, Norma Bates. When he is Norma, he murders beautiful women that check into the Bates Motel. Out of the invention of the phonograph, three distinct qualities were discovered of recorded music: portability, affordability, and repeatability. Thanks to the phonograph and its portability, Americans could hear the classics through recordings since professional musicians never ventured to the rural areas. Portability would have meant nothing if not for its affordability. In 1890 the cost of the phonograph was $40, and by the 1900 s it was reduced down to five dollars. Poor blacks could also afford the phonograph, and in their minds it was a way to try and achieve equalities among whites by listening and learning their culture. Repeatability was believed to serve two main functions: to single out the good music versus the bad and to help listeners to appreciate the art of the classics. Due to the fact that recording music had a maximum of three to four minutes, musicians had to drastically cut the time of their music to make more money. The phonograph was later called a gramophone and then it was known as the wax cylinder. The phonograph went out of style when the FM radio was invented and spread throughout American homes. Solnit is speaking of the tragedy of the 9/11 attacks in 2001. A life altering event for our entire nation struck in a blink of an eye. The same reaction spread with school shootings such as Columbine and Sandy Hook. We, as a nation, bond over tragedy and failure in order to boost back morale, strength, and hope. Time and time again our society is shown to thrive amongst our walls in the act of togetherness, producing more hope, reason, and caring than any other time. They also measured the children s view of how their parent s perceived failure by a two question survey: my parents think failure can help me learn and my parents think failure is bad and should be avoided (Haimovitz and Dweck 2016). The results of the study were that the reports done by the children on their parent s failure mindset predicted their own belief in either a fixed or growth mindset. Based off of the findings of these three studies, a parent s failure mindset has an effect on a children s view of intelligence more so than the parent s own view on intelligence. In a failure debilitating mindset, a child is more than likely to believe that their intelligence, or intelligence in general, is fixed and cannot be improved. It was a city marked, like many large Western cities by the high probability of death at a young age. At this time period life in large cities was characterized by many deaths due to infectious disease. According to the death records collected from the year 1902 to 1904 by the city of Toronto, 8.1% of the total population died from gastroenteritis or typhoid. For the purposes of comparison, it is important to note that the mortality burden of all infectious diseases at this time period was extremely high, with these cases making up to 41.3% of the total population mortality. There were numerous social conditions that affected this reality, and in this particular case study, had the power to either increase or decrease the mortality burdens of infectious disease. These social factors will be further studied in the paper, and they include, but are not limited to: housing, socioeconomic status, diet, age, water quality, waste management, hygiene, rapid industrialization, increased population growth, immigration, scientific advancements, increased classification and record keeping, and the role of government. • 40. Distribution Channels and Consumer Adoption 3. THEORY AND LITERATURE REVIEW This chapter will present the theoretical framework used in this master´s thesis. This chapter gives an overview of theories explaining distribution channels and consumer adoption. Ending with a literature review in financial service research, a research area closely related to digital receipts. 3.1. Distribution channels A distribution chain also known as value chain can be described as a set of interdependent organizations or businesses involved in making a product or service available, from producer to end customer (Kotler, et al., 2012). The function of the value chain is to contribute with cost efficient activities and simplify the purchase process (Coughlan et al., 2006). But if the chain consists of many actors the ones far back could have limited or no contact with customers resulting in lost of valuable information (REF). According to Bucklin (1966) it s important to understand customer preferences when designing the value chain. This because the value chain will only be viable over time if customers feel that it provides a form of value. This value is created if the actors of the chain provide activities that result in cost efficiency and/ or better service. There are five service performance areas where actors can create this value: unit size, availability, waiting time, variation in production and information (REF). When designing value chains one must take into account three important dimensions. These are: 1) the length ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
