Essay about Rational Choice Theory in Political Science
Rational Choice Theory in Political Science
According to one of rational choice theory s prominent and more thoughtful contemporary exponents,
Peter C. Ordeshook, four books mark the beginning of modern political theory: Anthony Downs s An
Economic Theory of Democracy (1957), Duncan Black s Theory of Committees and Elections (1958),
William H. Riker s A Theory of Political Coalitions (1962), and James Buchanan and Gordon Tullock
s The Calculus of Consent (1962). These volumes, along with Kenneth Arrow s Social Choice and
Individual Values (1951), began such a wealth of research that political scientists today have difficulty
digesting and synthesizing all but small parts of it. Consequently, the full value of this research often

First I will provide an overview of what rational choice theory is and why it has staked such a
prominent position in the discipline of political science. In this section I conclude that rational choice
theory has indeed developed advanced methodologies at telling us how rational agents should behave.
Then in my second section I will show, using the empirical case of the free rider problem and
collective action, as well as the case of suicide terrorism, that rational choice theory cannot adequately
account for actual political phenomena. In my third section I will provide some reasons for why this is
the case. Finally, in my concluding section I will posit a theoretical framework incorporating some
refinements to the assumptions behind rational choice theory that would better aid a predictive (but
not universalist) political science.
What is Rational Choice Theory?
Rational choice theory is actually more than one theory per se, but the basic similarities among its
variants mean that they can be intelligibly amalgamated for the purposes of critiquing its
implementation in political science. Therefore public choice theory, positive political science, rational
actor models, and the economic approach to politics, among others, refer to what we may call rational
choice theory for the purposes of this essay. (See Green and Shapiro 1994, xi.

I thrive with the extra responsibility and I feel it is aiding my development.
I also try to take an active role in the referral and assessment process to assist in furthering my
knowledge. I have now completed several referral assesments and two of these have resulted in
positive placements within my service.
As part of taking an active role in the recruitment process I also complete a one day training room
based induction with all new starters. The induction day I devised myself and put a power point
presentation together. On this day I cover codes of practice minimum standards professional
boundries, Ethos of supported living, Policies and proceedures, Journal and incident writing and also
information on The Regard Partnership. The regional director for Wales sat in on my first induction
and gave positive feedback on the induction. Also after the induction all staff fill out evaluation forms,
All of which have been extremely positive.
As always my line manager is very supportive with my personal development and she sets me goals at
supervision and appraisals for me to work towards. My manager also is constantly on the look out for
training oppertunites for me to assist in my development.
At my next supervision I am going to request that between us we draw up an action plan to also aid
my development. My manager is a great mentor

Effect Of Nails On Electromagnet
Will increasing the amount of nails on an electromagnet effect the strength of the magnet? Over all,
the minimum amount of paper clips the electromagnet collected was two clips. The maximum amount
included 20 paperclips. 8.5 was the median, along with a mean or average totaling ten paperclips. The
mode was not applicable as no mode was observed. Between the control group data and the
experimental group data, there were some patterns. For instance, before both second trials, the wire
around the nail(s) had to be rewrapped and the battery was changed. A difference was observed
between two pieces of qualitative data. The control group nail took a long time to become magnetized,
about two minutes, whereas the experimental group nails only took ... Show more content on

This hypothesis was proven over the course of 6 trials. In the first trial, the experimental
electromagnet collected one more paperclip than the control group magnet. In the second trial, six less
paperclips were picked up. Then, in the third trial, six paperclips were picked up by the experimental
magnet, opposed to the five clips collected by the control group electromagnet. Three more
experiments were then conducted after the first three, with the total numbers of paperclips amounting
11, 20, and 18 (in that order). If this experiment were to be conducted again, the number of batteries
could be increased instead. Also, the number of wire coils on the nail could be increased or decreased.
Aside from proving a hypothesis, this data could help scrap yard owner. In a scrap yard,
electromagnets are used to pick up old cars, and other scraps of steel or iron. To ensure that the metal
does not fall while it is being transported, a strong magnet would have to be used. Even though
paperclips are small in contrast to old cars, it could help the owner get an idea of a good

Freudian Theory In The Film Inception
1. Throughout the movie Inception, Christopher Nolan utilizes the Freudian Theory to explain the
many experiences Cobb has within his dreams. The most prominent exemplification of this theory is
Cobb repeatedly seeing a subconscious projection of his wife, Mal, within his dreams. After Mal
committed suicide by perceiving herself in an altered state of conscious (a dream) as she was
attempting to wake up from it; Cobb s guilt of causing her accidental death by performing inception
on her led him to flee his children and abandon his previous life in search of a way to clear his tainted
memories.
Despite these attempts, Cobb s guilt infiltrated its way into his own subconscious and projected itself
in his dreams. The Freudian Theory on Dreaming, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The feelings of unfulfilled desires Cobb has are clearly portrayed by the visions of his children that he
abandoned (not entirely thanks to the help of Professor Miles).
The movie Inception portrays the states of consciousness by using the totems the characters had
created to differentiate their altered states of conscious (dreams) from their conscious. Cobb s totem
was a wedding ring that he would be wearing while dreaming and not when not dreaming. The final
scene left off for open interpretation as it did not portray the state of conscious Cobb was in, as his
wife s totem (a spinning top) was not revealed to have toppled (as it does in reality) or continued
spinning (as it does in his dreams).
2. The movie Inception explains how our mind constructs dreams from subconscious thought
processes that are fueled with hopes and ideas for what we our life to be (what Disney defines as
dreams ). An example the construction of a reality within a dream would be The city Limbo that Cobb
and Mal both created together while undergoing inception. Limbo was Cobb and Mal s ideal world in
which they would use figments of their past experiences from reality (Mal s childhood home) to
construct a subconscious

Who Is Rob Hall In Into Thin Air
In Jon Krakauer s novel, Into Thin Air, the strongest character is clearly Rob Hall, the expedition s
head guide, who perished during the expedition. Rob Hall was a thirty five year old guide who had
reached Everest s summit four times before leading the expedition that killed him. Rob Hall is the
strongest character because he was a both brave and wise, and he always put others first. Rob Hall is
extremely brave not only had he reached Everest s summit four times before the 1996 expedition (a
mountain which has claimed over 250 lives), but had also attempted it several more times. He and his

Similarities Between The Crucible And Candide
Representations of people and politics are often contextually influenced. Authors portray their political
perspective through the representations within texts, often giving rise to evident conflict between an
individuals conscience and political control. Such is encapsulated in Arthur Miller s 1952 play The
Crucible ; a transhistorical allegory of the Salem witch trials. Correspondingly, in the novel Candide ,
Voltaire attacks political manipulation of the18th century theocratic Movement of Enlightenment .
Both authors present their political speculations through exploration of an individuals morality within
the restraint of a theocratic society. Such is explored through core themes of representation of good
and evil and the power of individual conscience.
All political actions, despite malleability to individual interpretations, are at their core, motivated by
the desire or need for ultimate control of a conformist society. Representations of the dichotomy of
good and evil are expressed in the texts. Both the Crucible by Miller and Candide by Voltaire explore
the ways in which values are manipulated, and imposed upon the people, to fuel political motives and
achieve public conformity/ultimate control. In a dramatisation of man s corruption, Miller represents
political motivations as a surrendering of moral and legal justice to fulfil personal agendas. He
criticises the political powers of the McCarthy Era when the widespread fear of the communism witch
hunt arose.

Essay on The History of Wicca
The history of Wicca is often debated by different people. It technically started in 1954, but was based
on a mix of ancient religions. We will briefly cover the history of Wicca from caveman days all the
way up to modern times in the following paragraphs.
In 1908, a statue known as the Venus of Willendorf was found in a cave near what is now Vienna,
Austria. Archaeologists believe that the figure comes from 24,000 and 22,000 B.C. Similar statues
have been found in a large area of Europe. The Venus of Willendorf has become a symbol of
prehistoric art. Paleolithic Wo/Man believed in a multitude of gods and honored the spirit of each

In 371 the Roman Empire adopted Christianity as its religion, this meant that they killed the priests of
the local religion; this included the Druids.
Between 540 through 604, Pope Gregory I had churches built on the sites of pagan temples. He
instructed his bishops to smash any idols and to sprinkle the temples with holy water and rededicate
them. After Gregory s death, they employed inquisitors, men whose job it was to go out and look for
non Christians whose beliefs or practices varied from what the church prescribed. They were branded
heretics, imprisoned, and eventually put to death. The document De ecclesiasticis disciplinis ascribed
to Regino of Prüm describes popular notions of witchcraft in 906. It states that it is the duty of priests
to, instruct the people that these things are absolutely untrue and that such imaginings are planted in
the minds of misbelieving folk, not by a Divine spirit, but by the spirit of evil. In 1275, the first witch
is burned to death after judicial sentence of an inquisitor, in Toulouse, France. 1374, Pope Gregory XI
declares that all magic is done with the aid of demons and thus is open to prosecution for heresy. 1424,
when Joan of Arc was 13, she heard a voice from God, telling her to help the French king to be in

Racism In To Kill A Mockingbird By Horton Foote
I know when I was a little I believed most of what I was told. I believe this could be said for most
people out there. To Kill a Mockingbird by Horton Foote has some similar things going for it. Jem
Finch a 10 year old boy and his 6 year old sister Scout (also referred to as Jean Louis) experience
situations where this is very relevant. The screenplay is set in Maycomb, Alabama in 1932. The town
is still fairly racist, this is really shown in a court case known as the Tom Robinson case. All in all the
Theme of To Kill a Mockingbird is do not believe everything you hear.
In the beginning of the screenplay Jem and Scout meet Dill (whose real name is Charles Baker Harris)
who is a 6 year old boy that seems to stretch the truth about his father. When the three of them first
meet Dill says that he does not have a father, but moments later he changes what he means saying My
daddy owns the L and N Railroad (Foote 10). If that does not seem a little questionable towards the
middle of the screenplay he changes what he says again. Dill says ... my daddy was a railroad man
until he got rich. Now he flies airplanes (Foote 47). The whole thing with him and his dad just seems
like it is exaggerated or made up after this point. Most might think that he makes this up because he
originally says that he does not know his father. This is very probable because after Dill says what his
dad, does he almost you could say fantasizes about his dad picking him up on a train or sweeping
down to

Walking On The Sandy Beaches Of Panama City Analysis
You feel almost as if you are walking on the sandy beaches of Panama City, Florida, and the heat of

No, it s not any of that. you just like to imagine it sometimes, to help distract from the real thing. It s
far better than seeing what is truly real. Better than walking through miles and miles of ash, ash that is

things. Her main career was being a physician, and was one of the first female Methodist ministers in
the United States of America. She fought for women s rights, including women s suffrage, and to be

her preaching and lectures about temperance, she was able to attend Albion College for two years. She
then studied at Boston University s School of Theology, being the only woman in her class. She
struggled there, but she finally graduated in 1878. She was denied access to East Dennis,
Massachusetts because she was a woman. The Methodist Protestant Church ordained her in 1880, and

Possibilites of Solar Energy
Background Living organisms are dependent on energy. Chemical energy is formed through the
conversion of sunlight by organisms such as bacteria and plants. It is through this process that food is
formed for other organisms. Nature only consumes the amount of energy supplied by the sun. A part
of the solar energy consumed by nature (animals, plants and their habitats) is transformed into
chemical energy and is sealed off eternally from the atmosphere, stored as biomass. 80% of our
current energy requirements are met by fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. Biomass material
was converted into fossil fuels millions of years ago. Due to the time it took to form these fossil fuels,
it is not possible to rely on these materials to continue meeting the needs of consumption. This means
that fossil fuels will either become depleted or be too uneconomical to recover. Appropriate actions
must be taken to ensure equilibrium between renewable and non renewable energy sources as the
change of fossil fuels into a usable form emits carbon dioxide, damaging the climate (Nijhoff
1979:35). Solar radiation, planetary energy and geothermal energy are the three forms of renewable
energy available on earth. Radiation from the sun is the highest source of energy and the obtainability
of these sources alters. In a nuclear fusion process in the sun, hydrogen is transformed into helium. It
is in the form of electromagnetic waves that the surface of the sun radiates this energy. This will

The p value is .001, which shows that the data is not normal. However, this test is more reliable with
larger sample sizes. Therefore, if there was a larger sample size here, the results of this test may differ
from above.
Assumption 2 of the t test is that there will be independence of observation. Here, a participant can
only be a member of the male group or the female group; this cannot overlap and a person can only be
assigned to one group. This will not be tested via a visual component, as this assumption is based on
setting up the research correctly.
Assumption 3 is homogeneity of variance, that the variances of the outcome variable in both groups,
the male group and the female group, will be equal. The Levene Test for Equality of Variances has a
sig. value of .566. This number is higher than .05 and, therefore, implies that the variability of the two
groups is about equal.
Based on the above, it appears that the assumptions have been met. Assumption 1, that the outcome
variable will be normally distributed, is supported by visual interpretation of the histogram and the
skewness and kurtosis calculations. The Shapiro Wilk test, on the other hand, did not support the
assumption. However, this could be due to sample size; the bigger the sample, the more accurate the
results. This could shed some doubt on the research; to completely meet the assumption, a larger

Anger In The Manciple s Tale By Geoffrey Chaucer
History has a way of repeating itself. Mistakes made by earlier civilizations are re made in modern
day. It is true that people learn from their mistakes, but it is what they are ignorant of that gets
repeated. If people knew something was morally wrong, they would avoid doing it. If they were raised
to believe it was right, they would still do it, thinking they are doing right. Not only bad things have a
reincarnation in the future, but good things as well. Even a manner of which a society of the past acts
can be mirrored in the modern world. Authors have studied these occurrences and applied them in
their works. One such author is Geoffrey Chaucer who, in his work, The Canterbury Tales, has

The first of the two characters in the tale is Constance, the religious one. It is said that she is the mirror
of all courtesy,/Her heart a chamber of true holiness,/ Her hand a ministration of largess (Chaucer, The
Man of Law s Tale , line 166 168). She is the model of a virtuous being. She has absolute trust in God,
and she teaches other to do the same. She practices being loyal to the law as well as her faith. She is
exemplified as a materially poor person but spiritually rich. She can resist temptation because she
looks forward to a better life in Heaven. Through hard times and good times, she remains always
faithful to God, and God always protects her. She can most accurately be related to a modern day
monk. They have no money, for they have taken a vow of poverty, but they remain spiritually rich.
Being spiritually rich means they leave behind family, possessions, and worldly position, and even the
outer marks of personal identity, symbolized by hair, beard, and wardrobe (Bhikkhu Bodhi). They
trust in God, and are strong followers of their faith, like Constance. Since The monastic lifestyle
places the monk in dependence on the generosity and kindness of others , when there is no one around
to provide the monk with generosity, their only option is to trust in God. They still follow the official
laws, but

Composition II
Composition II in Red, Blue, and Yellow
First impressions of Piet Mondrian s Composition II with Red Blue and Yellow generally identify the
art as shapes with color. However, there is much meaning behind the abstract work of art. Created in
1930 on a 46x46cm canvas, the oil painting portrays thick, black brushwork separating different
figures of rectangles. It was made on the foundation of Neo Plasticism, an artistic movement at that
time focusing on the most basic, abstract elements of painting. The artist s intended effect, harmonious
tension, is well achieved through the contrast between the colored rectangles and black lines, and
perspective.
An element of the art that helped convey the effect was the contrast between the colored rectangles
and black lines. The artwork portrayed different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Separating these rectangles is black lines, all of different thickness. Mondrian saw this contrasts
between the colored shapes and line as a metaphor for reality. It signifies both the balance and
harmony of dynamic forces in life. These dynamic forces in life work together to create peace, just as
the rectangles and lines work together to create peace in the art. The overall asymmetry contributes to
the other effect: tension. The black lines run off of the canvas, and seem to never end. Nothing in the
painting is alike, all different shapes and colors. Although the painting can seem so beautiful and
perfect at first, it may also bring the stress and lust to make to go and align the shapes and lines to
make it symmetrical. This is a metaphor for the utopia and dystopia in life. Life can be so calming, yet
comes with it, is the tension and anxiety. For example, in Mondrian s life, he moved to the
Netherlands in pursuit of expanding his art. This relatively hopeful and jubilant decision was shut
down when World War I began. It had seemed like World War I

A lot of us love music and in this day and age it can be hard to come by, especially if you don t have
anyway to buy online. The sound of music can affect all of us and our emotions. When we want to be
in a good mood we d probably listen to an annoying and catchy tune through our headphones. We
shouldn t have to be in trouble for giving ourselves joy. Today, I m going to try and persuade you why
illegally downloading music isn t wrong. While I m trying to persuade you some terms may cause

If you want to download safely try: researching for legal downloads, and asking the original owner for

that can download music safely ( 7. Pros and Cons of Downloading and Streaming ). As you know the

having the law come knocking on your door. For instance, if you re guilty of using apps like Spotify,
you ve been given a license to listen to it not the permission to own it (Price). Some applications used
are giving you legal content you just have to know how to see that. Try doing your research with these
sites or apps. If it has permission from the original creator or they re the creator themselves the song

Hard Determinism Vs. Negatives
Throughout the years, many different philosophical ideas have been presented to the general populace.
One of these ideas, hard determinism, has presented alleged positives and alleged negatives. One
alleged negative that stands out to me is that no single person is responsible for their actions, no matter
how heinous that action may be. I argue, that throwing morality completely out of the equation, is a
genuine negative of hard determinism. In order to explain my thoughts, we must first understand the
full meaning of hard determinism. In Holbach s essay on hard determinism, he says, Nevertheless, in
spite of the shackles by which he is bound, it is pretended he is a free agent, or that independent of the
causes by which he is moved, he determines his own will, and regulates his own condition. 1 He
explains that free will is an illusion and that all of our actions are pre determined by prior factors.
Prior factors would include: experiences from the past, how one was raised, genetic makeup and so
on. No matter what you decide to do, you will never actually have a say in it because everything in
your life has led up to that point. For example; if one man is walking down the street and bumps into
another man, how the second man reacts will have been predetermined therefore not making him
liable for those actions. Say he decides to accept the man s apology and goes on with his day. This is
due to the way he was raised and his genetic makeup, not because of his own

Overpopulation in India
Population Explosion in India
The Factors and Effects of Population Explosion in India, and Steps to Control Population
There are many factors contributing in the population explosion in India, and the increased population
has led to many others consequences. Anyhow, steps are taken by the government of India to control
this predicament. First and foremost, the high birth rate in India is the main root of the overpopulation.
The high fertility rate is due to the impecunious of the country. To counter this, the nations give birth
to more children, hoping that there will be more income resources. Besides, the people count upon that
the survivability of their children is low and thus they keep producing more children. Moreover, most

Not only that, the national heritage and the ancestral monuments will be damaged by the air pollution.
Besides, carbon dioxide and chlorofluorocarbons increase as the population grows and result in air
pollution and depletion of ozone layer. Eventually, temperature of earth will rise and the ultraviolet
radiation of the sun will be able to penetrate over the ozone layer. Global warming occurs as
greenhouse gases trap the heat in the earth s atmosphere. High temperature will hamper the harvest of
crops and further deteriorate the economy in India. Additionally, the climatic changes will lead to
increase of tropical disturbances. People themselves will be in danger as well as the pollution goes
critical.
The next pollution will be water pollution. This pollution comes from factories, automobiles exhausts
and mines, which dump sewage directly into the water. Moreover, as an Agrarian country, the usage of
pesticides for agriculture in India calls for water pollution too. Excessive usage of organic matter by
farmers will also lead to the same consequent. As mentioned, deforestation will occur as population
increase and the forests are stripped, soil erosion will happen and further cause sediments in water.
Furthermore, people in India bathe in river for spiritual rejuvenate. However, as they warding off their
sins in water, body wastes are excreted into the river as well, leading to river pollution. Religious

Dealing With Predatory Home Mortgages
It is no secret that tens of millions of homeowners got into trouble with predatory home mortgages.
Tens of millions of them have MERS originated Mortgages. If you asked the average mortgagor on
the street if they knew what a MERS originated Mortgage was, they couldn t tell you. They don t
know because they weren t told at closing that the funds they were receiving to buy their (generally
over appraised) home may NOT have come from the source named on their Mortgage or Deed of
Trust. Instead, the MERS® System was used because the borrowers loans were securitized. This
system was created specifically for that purpose (to track the sale and transfer of loans electronically,
in a MERSCORP owned database, with no regulatory oversight). You can t believe everything you
read either. Due diligence is required here.
I do not see either the federal or state governments coming out and educating homeowners on the
subject of MERS originated mortgages and securitization. Nope. People didn t start finding out about
securitization until 2009, just after the foreclosure mess was revealed in the media. Then there was the
bailout. People didn t understand that either. People didn t understand that the banks made some $53
trillion in credit default swap bets. In 2009, even most attorneys looking at the bigger picture for the
first time didn t know what credit default swaps were. Only the learned on Wall Street knew what they
were and how much money was made.

Residential Schools In Canada
The era of residential schools in Canada was a dark period in time, but it especially affected the
relationship between the country and its Aboriginal population. The quote above was said by Justice
Murray Sinclair, who, over a period of six years listen to over 7000 statements of survivors of
residential schools so as to form the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada s Call to Action.
To a great extent, I believe that the Call to Action should be followed through. In my opinion, the
main focus should be the section s Language and Culture, Health, and Justice.
The section Language and Culture proposes an Aboriginal Languages Act, which would protect all

Martin Luther King Jr Essay
Why was Martin Luther King Jr. such an inspiration to African Americans in America? Martin Luther
King Jr. was an American minister, Civil Rights leader, and activist who had a strong belief in
nonviolent protests (history.com; Martin Luther King Jr.). He was the leader behind the Montgomery
Bus Boycott and the March on Washington which were eventually effective and a law was passed to
end racial discrimination (history.com; Martin Luther King Jr.). On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks
was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on the bus. This caused activists to
organize a bus boycott that would last 381 days, and they chose Martin Luther King to be their leader.

Meyerhold and His Contribution to Theatre
VSEVOLOD EMILEVICH MEYERHOLD AND HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THEATRE
Introduction
Vsevolod Emielevich Meyerhold, considered one of 20th century greatest theatrical innovators, was
born on February 10, 1874 in the Russian town of Penza. He was originally born into a Lutheran
German Jewish family with the name Karl Theodore Kasmir Meyergold. In 1895 he took the name
Vsevolod Emievich Meyerhold after converting to the Russian Orthourdox Church. Meyerhold
studied Law at Moscow University for two terms. He became fascinated with the art of theatre and as
his interest increased he registered for an acting class at the Moscow Art School. Between 1898 and
1902, he worked at the Moscow Art Theatre where he was an actor in a wide range of productions ...

In the straight theatre the director takes the part of the author, and makes the actor see his work (author
and director are one). After incorporating the author s work by way of the director, the actor comes
face to face with the spectator (author and director at the actor s back), and acts freely while enjoying
the give and take of the two main elements of theatre the player and the playgoer. The director alone
must set the tone and style of a performance so that the straight theatre may not become chaotic, and
yet the acting will remain free and unrestrained.
This stylization leads Meyerhold to the arrangement of the stage with flat surfaces , specifically, to
eliminate the scenery and present the actor, as a principal mechanism for theatrical expression. This
marked the beginning of the deconstruction of the stage space. The disarrangement of the stage under
Meyerhold is said to have had its climax in the constructive solution of The Magnificent Cuckold and
The Death of Tarelkin. The stage in these two performances referred to above is said to have
resembled the renaissance box, was made as dynamic as possible and put completely to the benefit of
the performance itself by being stripped to a maximum extent; allowing only enough elements to

Life at a Medieval University
Life at a medieval university for clerics was in many regards similar to our present day college
experience. When college was in session, life was basically split into two categories; life in the books,
and life outside the books if you will. Scholars needed to focus their attention to the tasks at hand
during learning hours. As we know today, the more time you spend studying, the better grades you ll
achieve. On the other hand, scholars needed a release from the daily grind of constant academic
involvement. This may have included some popular pastimes such as drinking, gambling, and
wreaking havoc downtown (nothing a modern student would do). The scholars experienced many of
the problems that modern day collegians deal with as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If you were at a university at this time, you would follow the religious standards, just as I could never
get out of going to Friday mass at HGA. Nowadays, religion is a touchy topic. It is left to the
discretion of the individual whether or not he or she wants to follow the practices and how closely.
Church and state are now separated as to avoid major conflicts. Peter Abelard questions the
theological teachings of medieval universities and is criticized for it. He says Is God one, or no? At
this time scriptures were not to be questioned and were considered to be true. As we know now,
science has become a major source of answers in society. Anyway, Abelard brings a whole new
dimension to the table when he questions god s existence and some of the things that the church stands
for. The whole basis is to use logic and reason to ponder things in a philosophical fashion. This faith
vs. reason debate involved Abelard and others who felt that god was in a persons being, or heart.
Academia took up most of the students daily and weekly lives. Scholars took full advantage of down
time to relax and enjoy themselves. Social life was the second major aspect of a cleric s university
experience. As we know, the student body greatly impacts the surrounding town s economy; however
social issues arise as well. When students and townspeople are in the same atmosphere, and drinking,
fights are bound to break lose. These battles came to be known

The Effects Of Tolerance On Schools And Schools
Policies, at micro, mezzo, and macro levels, affect our schools and students every day and constitute
the foundation of educational standards in North American schools; to say that students are unaffected
on a micro level would be dismissive, ignorant, and narrow minded. Additionally, disregarding
existing policies and practices in educational institutions and their potential interactions and effects
with new policies and practices would be a grievous oversight in the decision making process. Zero
tolerance in schools was initially defined as consistently enforced suspension and expulsion policies in
response to weapons, drugs and violent acts in the school setting (NASP, 2001); if anything,
maintaining the safety or well being of its students is a responsibility of the school and school district
and a honorable goal to set. However, these policies have been broadened to include any rule
infraction, more or less, regardless of mistakes, ignorance, or extenuating circumstances. With a broad
policy like zero tolerance in schools comes a broad range of intended and unintended consequences;
these consequences can be positive, negative, and possibly even affect the policy s actual or perceived
effectiveness. Intended and unintended consequences of policy The question of effectiveness of zero
tolerance in schools is complicated and multi faceted. If effectiveness is determined broadly, as it
applies to multiple rules and policies, the majority of research surrounding zero

Analysis Of The Story The Yellow Wallpaper By...
Clinical psychologist and writer, Kay Redfield Jamison once said, I think one thing is that anybody
who s had to contend with mental illness whether it s depression, bipolar illness or severe anxiety,
whatever actually has a fair amount of resilience in the sense that they ve had to deal with suffering
already, personal suffering. In the story, The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the
narrator has severe depression, at the very least, and knows that she can get better if she is given the
right treatment. While trying to get better, she can t help but be fixated on the yellow wallpaper in her
room. The yellow wallpaper in this story is a representation of the narrator s relationship with her
disease. The exterior portion of the wallpaper is a portrayal of the narrator s disease. At night, it
becomes bars (Gilman 15). The fact that the exterior portion of the wallpaper becomes bars at night is
symbolizing the fact that her disease is keeping her at bay and keeping her locked in, or unable to get
better, whereas during the daytime, the exterior part is normal. This relates to how at times her disease
is calm and controlled and other times, it flares up and completely controls her. The pattern is also
described as torturing. Once you think that you have the pattern mastered, it comes back to overtake
you. Whenever the narrator describes the frustrating the outside of the wallpaper is, she is illustrating

Principles And Practices Of Incident Management And...
CHAPTER TWO
PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF INCIDENT MANAGEMENT AND INCIDENT RESPONSE
STRENGTHS
The information security incident management policy of Blyth s Books was created in 2010 and has
been reviewed four times in five years. Those covered by its scope are clearly stated. It stresses the
importance of incident management to the organisation and has the support of upper level
management.
This policy complies with the Computer Misuse Act (1990) which was an act made to secure
computer systems and networks from unapproved access. By complying with legal obligation, Blyth s
Books can pursue legal or disciplinary action against anyone (employee or otherwise) guilty of
breaching their systems.
WEAKNESSES
The Data Protection Act (1998) provides the principles which must be adhered to in order to ensure
the total protection of data while the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 27035
presents organisations with guidance in the management of information security incidents. This
standard stipulates that an organisation should have a clear and concise information security incident
management policy. The security incident management policy of Blyth s Books while compliant with
the Computer Misuse Act (1990) does not show that it is compliant with the Data Protection Act
(DPA) (1998) and the DPA (1998) being a legal aspect of the International Organisation for
Standardisation (ISO) 27035, which must be adhered to, this policy is also not compliant with the
standard.

Girl right to go to school, girls going to the market, or even going to work, was all banned. The taliban
destroyed many girl schools, murdered teachers, and killed students, that went to school, and all this
was just to ban education. It became very dangerous for students to go to school, and many students
including ones at Malala s school dropped out.but Malala continued to go to school because to her
education was everything. Not only was violence used to make people follow the rules that the taliban
set, but it was also used in public where whipping and execution was being used for anyone that broke
the taliban s rules. The taliban have blasted more than 400 schools in swat, and slaughtered people ,
Malala says with her interview with Jon Stewart. That shows you, that the taliban were so harsh and
cruel to the people of Swat, they made the people live in fear. Swat changed because of all the
violence and oppressiveness of the taliban, instead of Swat being paradise on earth like Malala
describes it in her book I am Malala , it has became a war zone.
If the taliban are being cruel, harsh, and are banning girls education, what do they want to reach? Well
according to Malala, the terrorists are afraid of education, they do not want women to get education
because they do not want women to be more powerful , that might be one reason that shows you what
the taliban want from banning girls from going to school, which is trying not to make education or
girls more powerful than them. And that is why the taliban are using violence so they can make girls

Political Postcard Of Syracuse Cultural Workers By Randolf...
In the catalog, Syracuse Cultural Workers, a man named Randolf Smallwood created a political
postcard that could be seen as controversial. This postcard is meant to appeal to people with a critical

portray the harsh truth what Conservatives support and what they believe in. Political parties often do
not agree on each other s views and this post card is an example of how they may bash each other to
show the points they disagree with. Using a bumper sticker was an interesting approach because many
people have them on their cars to show what candidate or party their supportive of, but these parodies
of bumper stickers reveal more than what they normally say. Everything on this postcard is placed
strategically and meant to portray a certain message. This postcard s main image shows a blue truck
with many colorful bumper stickers on the back of it. It is meant to represent the truthful way that
Conservatives think and what they believe in. We do not see the owner or driver of the truck in the
picture, but we can assume that he is a middle class, white male who supports rich and powerful
people. He does not drive a fancy, expensive car, but he then has a bumper sticker that says SAVE

will become rich and powerful himself. The postcard shows a medium shot of the car so it is

Materials collected by the pickers are then used to recreate useful objects such as furniture and as seen

SIMILARITIES
Because Sinan worked on the Hagia Sophia he became intimately familiar with its form and structure
so its not surprising that it had an influence on much of his work. Of all his buildings, conceptually the
Suleymaniye is probably the most similar to the Hagia Sophia with the basic concept of the central
domed space made larger with attached semidomed spaces which in turn have smaller spaces attached
topped by smaller domes. Because the dome of the Hagia Sophia was considered to be a great feat for
the Christians Sinan designed the dome of the Suleymaniye to send the message that not only were
Muslims just as capable but, with an even larger and higher dome, that they were superior.
More similarities can be drawn with the forms and structures of the two buildings. In addition to the
dome and semidomes, the main arches, piers, buttresses, and galleries were adopted by the
Suleymaniye. These were all part of the basic structural system in both buildings of a dome on four

transitional element between semidomes and the rest of the structure. Additionally Sinan used similar
wide arches in the Suleymaniye although they were not needed structurally and were probably used
for their formal appearance. The piers of the Suleymaniye are also similar with their projections used

The Space Shuttle Challenger Tragedy Speech
The Space Shuttle Challenger Tragedy Address Nineteen years ago, seventy three seconds after liftoff,
the space shuttle Challenger exploded and three astronauts lost their lives in a terrible accident on the
ground. The Space Shuttle Challenger Tragedy Address , delivered by President Ronald Reagan, on 28
January 1986, at the White House, in Washington, D. C. He spoke about the terrible tragedy of the
shuttle Challenger, where the nation lost three astronauts. Reagan talk about the mourning and
remembering of three legends. He discussed the seven challengers and essentially discourses to the
American public and families of seven challengers about the misfortune while comforting,
commemorating, and inspiring audiences, especially school children by the use of rhetoric. President
Ronald Reagan addresses the nation about the accident that happened nineteen years prior in which
the nation lost three crew members of the space shuttle challenger. President addresses the nation
during a time of high emotions and sadness and shared his feelings with the nation. He felt bad for the
families of seven astronauts. President Reagan responded very effectively to the rhetorical conditions
made by the seven challengers tragedy. He used ethos to communicate the shock and reassured the
importance of the space shuttle programs. President was effective and shows the emotional behavior
of astronauts, their families, the American Public, and school children about importance of space
shuttle programs. President Reagan s speech starts with the expression of pathos in which he portrays
the feeling of pain and the loss of three great challengers to the nation and shared towards the disaster.
In Challenger seven all astronauts fulfilled their duty with bravery, courage, and dedication and they
took part in the mission for the U. S. without consideration for their own lives. He spoke of the
heroism of the Challenger Seven crew while mourning and remembering with their family members.
But we feel the loss, and we re thinking about you so very much. Your loved ones were daring and
brave, and they had that special grace, that special spirit that says, Give me a challenge, and I ll meet it
with joy. Here President

Scarlet Letter Essay On Puritan Society
H.L Mencken defines Puritanism as the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy. These
words address the Puritan s attitude regarding strict and unrelenting societal standards. Modern society
views Puritanism with a negative connotation; Puritanism is often used as a synonym for words such
as: judgemental, critical and disapproving. While modern American society has grown and changed,
our Puritanical roots from the 1600 s remain. Our society can be condescending, hypocritical and
relishes in the ignominy of others. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel, The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne
discusses the harsh reality of living within the Puritan communities. The Scarlet Letter follows the
journey of a lonely single mother, who falls victim to sin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main character, Hester Prynne, is a young woman who commits adultery and gives birth to an
illegitimate child. As a repercussion, the Puritan community, that Hester calls home, shuns and labels
her as a sinful outcast. While modern society considers adultery is more of a personal issue than a
broken law, people are still critiqued for specific behaviors and actions, similarly to the way Hester
was judged in the 1600 s. Modern American culture has been affected by outdated Puritan values, and
has caused society to become an echo of the Puritan community of 1692. While Puritans may have
publically shamed others on scaffolds as a crude punishment, Americans reach a broader audience
with the help of technological advances and social media. But, technology has also allowed our nation
s Puritan roots to be prominently displayed online. Social media platforms are often the most popular
choice when it comes to bringing light to the ignominy of others. With the option of hiding behind a
screen, people often lose touch with human empathy and do not hesitate to lash out at others; this is
shown in the Justine Sacco twitter incident of 2013. In the New York Times magazine, Jon Ronson
educates his audience about how quickly people chose to harass

No matter how many years you have kept them, they WILL sting you! Bees, like many other insects
and even animals are quite protective of their territories and their honey. So you will most definitely
need protective gear even if you are a seasoned beekeeper. A beekeeper hat is therefore one of the
most important part of that gear. The moment you think of protection against the stings, the hat should
be your first thought. A beekeeper hat is a specially designed hat that ensures you are kept safe of the
fierce attacks from bees every time you are in contact with the hive. It is ... Show more content on

Plastic hats for instance are quite effective in terms of the clarity whilst looking through them but at
the same time they can make you feel stuffed up in there because of the ventilation system. The best
types are the ones attached together with a veil that is at least shoulder long. The mesh should be tight
enough to not allow the bees to slip through the holes. The beekeeper hat as is with other protective
clothing should be white in color. Bees don t consider the white color as a threat. However, just show
up in a dark colored suit or protective clothing and you are in for a tempest like no other (bee style).
For some reason, they do not like the color white and will get distracted and not see you as an enemy
perhaps up until you start to grab the honey

Wystan Hugh Auden Research Paper
The English American poet, Wystan Hugh Auden, better known as W. H. Auden, was known for his
ability to craft poems in different styles centering his work on different moral, social, and political
issues. W.H. Auden is recognized for having some of the most renowned poetry of the 20th century
due to his ability to use ancient moral issues, and relate them to current events of the time. Even
though Auden had a talent for using his personal experiences to create poetry of love and suffering,
some of his most powerful poems are written upon the immortality of war. Focusing on totalitarian
dictators, Auden created two of his most moving poems, September 1, 1939 and The Shield of
Achilles . Auden uses his poetry to express the ways bureaucratic dictatorship is used to control
citizens, leading dictators to unleash war upon the world. Due to his knowledge of the potential
destructive tendencies of dictators, Auden uses his poetry to convey the message that the power of
enduring human spirit has the ability to counteract the harmful effects of dictatorship if civilians
suppress the power of the tyrant. Wystan Hugh Auden was born on February 21, 1907, in York,
England. Auden was raised in a strict and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Discusion of Two Documentaries, Awaiting for Men and...
This essay attempts to discuss on two documentaries, Awaiting for Men (2007) and Sick: The Life and
Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist (1997), on their reconstruction of truth and reality with
particular emphasis on cinematic language and representation. With documentary becoming more
diverse and diffused due to advanced technology such as the Internet, the realism of first hand
experience and facts may be exaggerated and even fictional. This is achieved through a bombast
proximity and truth which has caused a blurred definition to term documentary. With the
understanding that documentary is a form of factual representation, the aim for truth in the
presentation of reality may be impossible (Chapman, 2009). Hence by comparing with reference to
Awaiting for Men (2007) and Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist (1997), it
would provide a deeper analysis in distinguishing whether the two documentaries were able to
represent the truth of the reality.
Firstly, one need to be aware the reality of the society that each of the documentaries have constructed
in order to gain a better insight to why these documentaries were produced. Awaiting for Men (2007)
presented the life of three strong and independent African women; an intimate conversation with the
women focusing mainly on their timeline as a woman in Africa from a young adult woman to a
married life. In Africa, it is perceived to the world that African women are conserved, dependent on
men and

Bigger Thomas, of Native Son and Tupac Shakur Essay
Negro writers must accept the nationalist implications of their lives, not in order to encourage them,
but in order to change and transcend them. They must accept the concept of nationalism because, in
order to transcend it, they must posses and understand it.
Richard Wright
In 1996, famed rapper and entertainer Tupac Shakur[1] was gunned down in Las Vegas. Journalistic
sentiment at the time suggested he deserved the brutal death. The New York Times headline, Rap
Performer Who Personified Violence, Dies, suggested Shakur, who was twenty five when he died,
deserved his untimely death. (Pareles, 1996) A product of a fatherless home, raised poor in the ghettos
of San Francisco, Shakur, notes Ernest Harding of the L.A. Weekly, ... Show more content on

A victim of the same impoverished environment as Shakur, Bigger personifies violence in the form of
the real murders of Mary Dalton and Bessie, unlike Shakur who only talks and sings of murder. In
Native Son, Wright, for better or for worse, presents his readers with an entity in Bigger Thomas who
achieves self realization only after murder, and this characterization suggests violence presents a kind
of road which winds down into self consciousness and self awareness, a road many African
Americans, most notably gangster rappers, cannot help but continue to travel on today.
While one can argue that violence in African American culture owes its origins to the days of
slavery, I would contend that violence and the reaction to fear(s) is what constitutes

Moses In The Land Of Goshen
Moses, son of Abraham and Jochebed, was born in the Land of Goshen, modern day Egypt. At the
time due to the law that the Pharaoh had put in place all first born children of the Israelites had to be
drowned in the Nile River to prevent children from growing up and retaliating against the Pharaoh
himself. Moses was put in the Nile, but wasn t drowned. Jochebed couldn t drown her own son so she
put him in a basket and let him float down the Nile. As he floated by the Pharaoh s estate, the
Pharaohs daughter rescued him from the Nile and named him, and thus he was raised by Egyptian
royalty. At the beginning of the book of Exodus Moses speaks to G d through the burning bush, where
G d appoints him the leader of the Israelites and instructs him ... Show more content on

This becomes more evident when Moses marries, Zipporah, a woman from the Midianites (Exodus
2:15 22). Together they have a son named Gershon, which is thought to translate to exile. Sigmund
Freud argues that the Israelite genealogy of Moses roots was only created to mask the true Egyptian
roots of Moses. The Promised Land was promised to the Israelites and the death of Moses at the hands
of G d may be a way of sending a message to the people of Israel. By killing Moses, the leader of the
people for the past 40 years, G d is communicating to the people that even someone with very little
Egyptian heritage doesn t deserve to live in the Promised Land, no matter how important they ve been
to the freedom of the Israelites. This hypothesis would argue that Moses was killed by G d purely to
send a message to the people of Israel to prove how privileged they are to be permitted into the
Promised Land, creating an extreme sense of

  • 2. Essay about Rational Choice Theory in Political Science Rational Choice Theory in Political Science According to one of rational choice theory s prominent and more thoughtful contemporary exponents, Peter C. Ordeshook, four books mark the beginning of modern political theory: Anthony Downs s An Economic Theory of Democracy (1957), Duncan Black s Theory of Committees and Elections (1958), William H. Riker s A Theory of Political Coalitions (1962), and James Buchanan and Gordon Tullock s The Calculus of Consent (1962). These volumes, along with Kenneth Arrow s Social Choice and Individual Values (1951), began such a wealth of research that political scientists today have difficulty digesting and synthesizing all but small parts of it. Consequently, the full value of this research often goes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First I will provide an overview of what rational choice theory is and why it has staked such a prominent position in the discipline of political science. In this section I conclude that rational choice theory has indeed developed advanced methodologies at telling us how rational agents should behave. Then in my second section I will show, using the empirical case of the free rider problem and collective action, as well as the case of suicide terrorism, that rational choice theory cannot adequately account for actual political phenomena. In my third section I will provide some reasons for why this is the case. Finally, in my concluding section I will posit a theoretical framework incorporating some refinements to the assumptions behind rational choice theory that would better aid a predictive (but not universalist) political science. What is Rational Choice Theory? Rational choice theory is actually more than one theory per se, but the basic similarities among its variants mean that they can be intelligibly amalgamated for the purposes of critiquing its implementation in political science. Therefore public choice theory, positive political science, rational actor models, and the economic approach to politics, among others, refer to what we may call rational choice theory for the purposes of this essay. Over all, the minimum amount of paper clips the electromagnet collected was two clips. The maximum amount included 20 paperclips. 8.5 was the median, along with a mean or average totaling ten paperclips. The mode was not applicable as no mode was observed. Between the control group data and the experimental group data, there were some patterns. For instance, before both second trials, the wire around the nail(s) had to be rewrapped and the battery was changed. A difference was observed between two pieces of qualitative data. • 5. Freudian Theory In The Film Inception 1. Throughout the movie Inception, Christopher Nolan utilizes the Freudian Theory to explain the many experiences Cobb has within his dreams. The most prominent exemplification of this theory is Cobb repeatedly seeing a subconscious projection of his wife, Mal, within his dreams. After Mal committed suicide by perceiving herself in an altered state of conscious (a dream) as she was attempting to wake up from it; Cobb s guilt of causing her accidental death by performing inception on her led him to flee his children and abandon his previous life in search of a way to clear his tainted memories. Despite these attempts, Cobb s guilt infiltrated its way into his own subconscious and projected itself in his dreams. The Freudian Theory on Dreaming, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The feelings of unfulfilled desires Cobb has are clearly portrayed by the visions of his children that he abandoned (not entirely thanks to the help of Professor Miles). The movie Inception portrays the states of consciousness by using the totems the characters had created to differentiate their altered states of conscious (dreams) from their conscious. Cobb s totem was a wedding ring that he would be wearing while dreaming and not when not dreaming. The final scene left off for open interpretation as it did not portray the state of conscious Cobb was in, as his wife s totem (a spinning top) was not revealed to have toppled (as it does in reality) or continued spinning (as it does in his dreams). 2. The movie Inception explains how our mind constructs dreams from subconscious thought processes that are fueled with hopes and ideas for what we our life to be (what Disney defines as dreams ). An example the construction of a reality within a dream would be The city Limbo that Cobb and Mal both created together while undergoing inception. Limbo was Cobb and Mal s ideal world in which they would use figments of their past experiences from reality (Mal s childhood home) to construct a subconscious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Similarities Between The Crucible And Candide Representations of people and politics are often contextually influenced. Authors portray their political perspective through the representations within texts, often giving rise to evident conflict between an individuals conscience and political control. Such is encapsulated in Arthur Miller s 1952 play The Crucible ; a transhistorical allegory of the Salem witch trials. Correspondingly, in the novel Candide , Voltaire attacks political manipulation of the18th century theocratic Movement of Enlightenment . Both authors present their political speculations through exploration of an individuals morality within the restraint of a theocratic society. Such is explored through core themes of representation of good and evil and the power of individual conscience. All political actions, despite malleability to individual interpretations, are at their core, motivated by the desire or need for ultimate control of a conformist society. Representations of the dichotomy of good and evil are expressed in the texts. Both the Crucible by Miller and Candide by Voltaire explore the ways in which values are manipulated, and imposed upon the people, to fuel political motives and achieve public conformity/ultimate control. In a dramatisation of man s corruption, Miller represents political motivations as a surrendering of moral and legal justice to fulfil personal agendas. He criticises the political powers of the McCarthy Era when the widespread fear of the communism witch hunt arose. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To Kill a Mockingbird by Horton Foote has some similar things going for it. Jem Finch a 10 year old boy and his 6 year old sister Scout (also referred to as Jean Louis) experience situations where this is very relevant. The screenplay is set in Maycomb, Alabama in 1932. The town is still fairly racist, this is really shown in a court case known as the Tom Robinson case. All in all the Theme of To Kill a Mockingbird is do not believe everything you hear. In the beginning of the screenplay Jem and Scout meet Dill (whose real name is Charles Baker Harris) who is a 6 year old boy that seems to stretch the truth about his father. When the three of them first meet Dill says that he does not have a father, but moments later he changes what he means saying My daddy owns the L and N Railroad (Foote 10). If that does not seem a little questionable towards the middle of the screenplay he changes what he says again. Dill says ... my daddy was a railroad man until he got rich. Now he flies airplanes (Foote 47). The whole thing with him and his dad just seems like it is exaggerated or made up after this point. Most might think that he makes this up because he originally says that he does not know his father. • 15. Possibilites of Solar Energy Background Living organisms are dependent on energy. Chemical energy is formed through the conversion of sunlight by organisms such as bacteria and plants. It is through this process that food is formed for other organisms. Nature only consumes the amount of energy supplied by the sun. A part of the solar energy consumed by nature (animals, plants and their habitats) is transformed into chemical energy and is sealed off eternally from the atmosphere, stored as biomass. 80% of our current energy requirements are met by fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. Biomass material was converted into fossil fuels millions of years ago. Due to the time it took to form these fossil fuels, it is not possible to rely on these materials to continue meeting the needs of consumption. This means that fossil fuels will either become depleted or be too uneconomical to recover. Appropriate actions must be taken to ensure equilibrium between renewable and non renewable energy sources as the change of fossil fuels into a usable form emits carbon dioxide, damaging the climate (Nijhoff 1979:35). Solar radiation, planetary energy and geothermal energy are the three forms of renewable energy available on earth. Radiation from the sun is the highest source of energy and the obtainability of these sources alters. In a nuclear fusion process in the sun, hydrogen is transformed into helium. It is in the form of electromagnetic waves that the surface of the sun radiates this energy. This will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Assumption 2 of the t test is that there will be independence of observation. Here, a participant can only be a member of the male group or the female group; this cannot overlap and a person can only be assigned to one group. This will not be tested via a visual component, as this assumption is based on setting up the research correctly. Assumption 3 is homogeneity of variance, that the variances of the outcome variable in both groups, the male group and the female group, will be equal. The Levene Test for Equality of Variances has a sig. value of .566. This number is higher than .05 and, therefore, implies that the variability of the two groups is about equal. Based on the above, it appears that the assumptions have been met. Assumption 1, that the outcome variable will be normally distributed, is supported by visual interpretation of the histogram and the skewness and kurtosis calculations. The Shapiro Wilk test, on the other hand, did not support the assumption. However, this could be due to sample size; the bigger the sample, the more accurate the results. However, there is much meaning behind the abstract work of art. Created in 1930 on a 46x46cm canvas, the oil painting portrays thick, black brushwork separating different figures of rectangles. It was made on the foundation of Neo Plasticism, an artistic movement at that time focusing on the most basic, abstract elements of painting. These dynamic forces in life work together to create peace, just as the rectangles and lines work together to create peace in the art. The overall asymmetry contributes to the other effect: tension. The black lines run off of the canvas, and seem to never end. Nothing in the painting is alike, all different shapes and colors. Although the painting can seem so beautiful and perfect at first, it may also bring the stress and lust to make to go and align the shapes and lines to make it symmetrical. This is a metaphor for the utopia and dystopia in life. Life can be so calming, yet comes with it, is the tension and anxiety. One of these ideas, hard determinism, has presented alleged positives and alleged negatives. One alleged negative that stands out to me is that no single person is responsible for their actions, no matter how heinous that action may be. I argue, that throwing morality completely out of the equation, is a genuine negative of hard determinism. Tens of millions of them have MERS originated Mortgages. If you asked the average mortgagor on the street if they knew what a MERS originated Mortgage was, they couldn t tell you. They don t know because they weren t told at closing that the funds they were receiving to buy their (generally over appraised) home may NOT have come from the source named on their Mortgage or Deed of Trust. Instead, the MERS® System was used because the borrowers loans were securitized. This system was created specifically for that purpose (to track the sale and transfer of loans electronically, in a MERSCORP owned database, with no regulatory oversight). You can t believe everything you read either. Due diligence is required here. I do not see either the federal or state governments coming out and educating homeowners on the subject of MERS originated mortgages and securitization. Nope. People didn t start finding out about securitization until 2009, just after the foreclosure mess was revealed in the media. Then there was the bailout. People didn t understand that either. People didn t understand that the banks made some $53 trillion in credit default swap bets. The quote above was said by Justice Murray Sinclair, who, over a period of six years listen to over 7000 statements of survivors of residential schools so as to form the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada s Call to Action. To a great extent, I believe that the Call to Action should be followed through. In my opinion, the main focus should be the section s Language and Culture, Health, and Justice. Meyerhold and His Contribution to Theatre VSEVOLOD EMILEVICH MEYERHOLD AND HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THEATRE Introduction Vsevolod Emielevich Meyerhold, considered one of 20th century greatest theatrical innovators, was born on February 10, 1874 in the Russian town of Penza. He was originally born into a Lutheran German Jewish family with the name Karl Theodore Kasmir Meyergold. In 1895 he took the name Vsevolod Emievich Meyerhold after converting to the Russian Orthourdox Church. Meyerhold studied Law at Moscow University for two terms. In the straight theatre the director takes the part of the author, and makes the actor see his work (author and director are one). After incorporating the author s work by way of the director, the actor comes face to face with the spectator (author and director at the actor s back), and acts freely while enjoying the give and take of the two main elements of theatre the player and the playgoer. The director alone must set the tone and style of a performance so that the straight theatre may not become chaotic, and yet the acting will remain free and unrestrained. This stylization leads Meyerhold to the arrangement of the stage with flat surfaces , specifically, to eliminate the scenery and present the actor, as a principal mechanism for theatrical expression. This marked the beginning of the deconstruction of the stage space. The disarrangement of the stage under Meyerhold is said to have had its climax in the constructive solution of The Magnificent Cuckold and The Death of Tarelkin. Peter Abelard questions the theological teachings of medieval universities and is criticized for it. He says Is God one, or no? The Effects Of Tolerance On Schools And Schools Policies, at micro, mezzo, and macro levels, affect our schools and students every day and constitute the foundation of educational standards in North American schools; to say that students are unaffected on a micro level would be dismissive, ignorant, and narrow minded. Additionally, disregarding existing policies and practices in educational institutions and their potential interactions and effects with new policies and practices would be a grievous oversight in the decision making process. Zero tolerance in schools was initially defined as consistently enforced suspension and expulsion policies in response to weapons, drugs and violent acts in the school setting (NASP, 2001); if anything, maintaining the safety or well being of its students is a responsibility of the school and school district and a honorable goal to set. However, these policies have been broadened to include any rule infraction, more or less, regardless of mistakes, ignorance, or extenuating circumstances. In the story, The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the narrator has severe depression, at the very least, and knows that she can get better if she is given the right treatment. While trying to get better, she can t help but be fixated on the yellow wallpaper in her room. The yellow wallpaper in this story is a representation of the narrator s relationship with her disease. The exterior portion of the wallpaper is a portrayal of the narrator s disease. At night, it becomes bars (Gilman 15). The fact that the exterior portion of the wallpaper becomes bars at night is symbolizing the fact that her disease is keeping her at bay and keeping her locked in, or unable to get better, whereas during the daytime, the exterior part is normal. This relates to how at times her disease is calm and controlled and other times, it flares up and completely controls her. The pattern is also described as torturing. Of all his buildings, conceptually the Suleymaniye is probably the most similar to the Hagia Sophia with the basic concept of the central domed space made larger with attached semidomed spaces which in turn have smaller spaces attached topped by smaller domes. Because the dome of the Hagia Sophia was considered to be a great feat for the Christians Sinan designed the dome of the Suleymaniye to send the message that not only were Muslims just as capable but, with an even larger and higher dome, that they were superior. More similarities can be drawn with the forms and structures of the two buildings. In addition to the dome and semidomes, the main arches, piers, buttresses, and galleries were adopted by the Suleymaniye. These were all part of the basic structural system in both buildings of a dome on four supports. Sinan also used pendentives as the structural system under the main dome and squinches as a transitional element between semidomes and the rest of the structure. While Puritans may have publically shamed others on scaffolds as a crude punishment, Americans reach a broader audience with the help of technological advances and social media. But, technology has also allowed our nation s Puritan roots to be prominently displayed online. Social media platforms are often the most popular choice when it comes to bringing light to the ignominy of others. With the option of hiding behind a screen, people often lose touch with human empathy and do not hesitate to lash out at others; this is shown in the Justine Sacco twitter incident of 2013. In the New York Times magazine, Jon Ronson educates his audience about how quickly people chose to harass ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bees, like many other insects and even animals are quite protective of their territories and their honey. So you will most definitely need protective gear even if you are a seasoned beekeeper. A beekeeper hat is therefore one of the most important part of that gear. The moment you think of protection against the stings, the hat should be your first thought. Plastic hats for instance are quite effective in terms of the clarity whilst looking through them but at the same time they can make you feel stuffed up in there because of the ventilation system. The best types are the ones attached together with a veil that is at least shoulder long. The mesh should be tight enough to not allow the bees to slip through the holes. The beekeeper hat as is with other protective clothing should be white in color. Bees don t consider the white color as a threat. However, just show up in a dark colored suit or protective clothing and you are in for a tempest like no other (bee style). For some reason, they do not like the color white and will get distracted and not see you as an enemy perhaps up until you start to grab the honey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Wystan Hugh Auden Research Paper The English American poet, Wystan Hugh Auden, better known as W. H. Auden, was known for his ability to craft poems in different styles centering his work on different moral, social, and political issues. W.H. Auden is recognized for having some of the most renowned poetry of the 20th century due to his ability to use ancient moral issues, and relate them to current events of the time. Even though Auden had a talent for using his personal experiences to create poetry of love and suffering, some of his most powerful poems are written upon the immortality of war. Focusing on totalitarian dictators, Auden created two of his most moving poems, September 1, 1939 and The Shield of Achilles . Auden uses his poetry to express the ways bureaucratic dictatorship is used to control citizens, leading dictators to unleash war upon the world. Due to his knowledge of the potential destructive tendencies of dictators, Auden uses his poetry to convey the message that the power of enduring human spirit has the ability to counteract the harmful effects of dictatorship if civilians suppress the power of the tyrant. • 44. A Discusion of Two Documentaries, Awaiting for Men and... This essay attempts to discuss on two documentaries, Awaiting for Men (2007) and Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist (1997), on their reconstruction of truth and reality with particular emphasis on cinematic language and representation. With documentary becoming more diverse and diffused due to advanced technology such as the Internet, the realism of first hand experience and facts may be exaggerated and even fictional. This is achieved through a bombast proximity and truth which has caused a blurred definition to term documentary. With the understanding that documentary is a form of factual representation, the aim for truth in the presentation of reality may be impossible (Chapman, 2009). Hence by comparing with reference to Awaiting for Men (2007) and Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist (1997), it would provide a deeper analysis in distinguishing whether the two documentaries were able to represent the truth of the reality. Firstly, one need to be aware the reality of the society that each of the documentaries have constructed in order to gain a better insight to why these documentaries were produced. Awaiting for Men (2007) presented the life of three strong and independent African women; an intimate conversation with the women focusing mainly on their timeline as a woman in Africa from a young adult woman to a married life. In Africa, it is perceived to the world that African women are conserved, dependent on men and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Bigger Thomas, of Native Son and Tupac Shakur Essay Negro writers must accept the nationalist implications of their lives, not in order to encourage them, but in order to change and transcend them. They must accept the concept of nationalism because, in order to transcend it, they must posses and understand it. Richard Wright In 1996, famed rapper and entertainer Tupac Shakur[1] was gunned down in Las Vegas. Journalistic sentiment at the time suggested he deserved the brutal death. The New York Times headline, Rap Performer Who Personified Violence, Dies, suggested Shakur, who was twenty five when he died, deserved his untimely death. (Pareles, 1996) A product of a fatherless home, raised poor in the ghettos of San Francisco, Shakur, notes Ernest Harding of the L.A. Weekly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A victim of the same impoverished environment as Shakur, Bigger personifies violence in the form of the real murders of Mary Dalton and Bessie, unlike Shakur who only talks and sings of murder. In Native Son, Wright, for better or for worse, presents his readers with an entity in Bigger Thomas who achieves self realization only after murder, and this characterization suggests violence presents a kind of road which winds down into self consciousness and self awareness, a road many African Americans, most notably gangster rappers, cannot help but continue to travel on today. While one can argue that violence in African American culture owes its origins to the days of slavery, I would contend that violence and the reaction to fear(s) is what constitutes ... • 46. Moses In The Land Of Goshen Moses, son of Abraham and Jochebed, was born in the Land of Goshen, modern day Egypt. At the time due to the law that the Pharaoh had put in place all first born children of the Israelites had to be drowned in the Nile River to prevent children from growing up and retaliating against the Pharaoh himself. Moses was put in the Nile, but wasn t drowned. Jochebed couldn t drown her own son so she put him in a basket and let him float down the Nile. As he floated by the Pharaoh s estate, the Pharaohs daughter rescued him from the Nile and named him, and thus he was raised by Egyptian royalty. At the beginning of the book of Exodus Moses speaks to G d through the burning bush, where G d appoints him the leader of the Israelites and instructs him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This becomes more evident when Moses marries, Zipporah, a woman from the Midianites (Exodus 2:15 22). Together they have a son named Gershon, which is thought to translate to exile. Sigmund Freud argues that the Israelite genealogy of Moses roots was only created to mask the true Egyptian roots of Moses. The Promised Land was promised to the Israelites and the death of Moses at the hands of G d may be a way of sending a message to the people of Israel. By killing Moses, the leader of the people for the past 40 years, G d is communicating to the people that even someone with very little Egyptian heritage doesn t deserve to live in the Promised Land, no matter how important they ve been to the freedom of the Israelites. This hypothesis would argue that Moses was killed by G d purely to send a message to the people of Israel to prove how privileged they are to be permitted into the Promised Land, creating an extreme sense of ...
