Theme Of Justice in The Big Sleep and The Black Cat Essay
The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler and The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe both approach the theme
of justice and present it in dissimilar ways. The Big Sleep presents justice as something which you can
achieve through beliefs and morals, without the use of money and crime. The Black Cat presents
justice as something which is absolute and something which you cannot escape psychologically, a
force which is inevitable.
In The Big Sleep, a conversation between Philip Marlowe and Vivien Sternwood is proceeding, in
which Marlowe is offered $15,000 to be silenced over the disappearance of Rusty Regan, and within
the conversation the reader is given an insight into the motivations and morals of Marlowe, and his
own personal view of the topic in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether it is perceived as irony or outright sarcasm, Marlowe reveals he does his job for the money ,
which is only $25 per day, but then later refuses to accept the offer of $15,000 despite the fact that he
knows he could own a home and a new car and four suits of clothes...even take a vacation . The
refusal shows Marlowe s anti heroic status, as he appreciates the advantages of corruption but believes
the well being of his client and ... to protect what little pride a broken and sick old man has left in his
blood is more important. Edgar Allen Poe s tales usually contain graphic imagery and themes of fear
and horror, all shown in The Black Cat. In this extract, as it written in a narrative form it shows the
true psychological struggle between the narrator and their demons as it explores the criminal mind
from a first person point of view, noticing both character and motivation.
The aspects of justice shown in The Black Cat are Criminal Justice and the ideology of Religious
Justice. Unlike The Big Sleep, the Criminal Justice System of the 19th century was much more
ruthless in that even the narrator is aware his actions will get recognised and punished, an action
which appears inevitably. Revealed later on, the narrator explains that he has been consigned to the
hangman, an act of Criminal Justice upon the narrator.
The infinite mercy of the Most Merciful and Most Terrible God , a common notion in the 1800 s was
that justice would be served

Personal Statement For My Passion For Chemistry
Through out life had taught me many things. I have found that the true happiness cannot be only
achieved by hard work and acumen, but also by immense audacity for pursuing my aspirations. The
profound crave for learning, invention and teaching in me lead me to continue my education for a PhD
degree.
My temper for science become discernible when I had sudden realization during my senior secondary
school. Throughout the school I was never certain for which career path is fine for me. At that tie have
the propensity for most subjects in terms of innovative and methodical. During, My school fascination
for chemistry spring from my father, who was a chemistry a graduate. He always says chemistry is an

reinforced by understanding of chemistry. Moreover, I also refined my academic aptness. I learned
organic reactions by systematize and classifying the mechanisms and trying to explain the
involvement of electrons instead of memorizing large number of reaction mechanisms. I especially
like reading textbook of foreign authors, such as organic chemistry by Claydan and physical chemistry
by Atkins. In my final year I also completed an investigatory project on proteins as biomolecules. The
aim of this project was to study about variety of proteins synthesized in human being. A comparison
was carried out between the naturally occurring proteins as enzymes. Due to paucity of funds in

The Simple Art Of Masquerade
The Simple Art of Masquerade Centuries ago, long before the thoughts of man were transcribed into
words, drawings were used to convey the thoughts and ideas, each telling a story like no other, with an
even greater discord between the accurate meanings of the story and meaning which the reader
garnered from the tale. Fast forward a few centuries to a time where stories were ultimately being
shared by word of mouth, altering a bit from the original thoughts and ideas of the author who
formerly spoke the tale. Traveling yet a few more centuries now to a time where stories are now
written and transcribed, not only by hand but also, finally, by printing press. This illustrious invention
paved the way for those who wished to share their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is not only the authors portrayal of the characters that is important, but the interactions
amongst the characters themselves. It is within Raymond Chandler s The Big Sleep that he presents
each character through the eyes of Philip Marlowe, and is able to present who they are trying to be,
who they are, and the moral issues which arise in each. Chandler manipulates costumes and setting to
show who Carmen Sternwood s character is trying to be, who she really is and the moral issues
associated with each of these as seen through the eyes of Philip Marlowe. Since countless of the
characters throughout The Big Sleep do not show their true colors until the end of the book or
characters life, which the latter seems to be sooner than the former, the literary clues given by
Chandler to determine who they are trying to be as well as who they truly are is uniquely important.
She tries to portray herself as an innocent little girl, in order to woo Marlowe, but to no avail. For
example, in the first encounter with Philip Marlowe, she wore pale blue slacks, with the pale blue
color associated closely with that of a newborn baby, showing that her character is one that is trying to
give off a sense of childishness (5). Not only is she seen constantly giggling but she also uses
elementary words such as cute, furthering her agenda of trying to act like a little girl.

Emma s Management of Harriet s Affairs in Jane Austen s...
Emma s Management of Harriet s Affairs in Jane Austen s Emma
In this novel, Jane Austen uses the relationship between Emma and Harriet to highlight the important
issues. She uses Emma s management of Harriet to do this. She creates contrast between Emma and
Harriet, she portrays Emma as beautiful and intelligent though we can still see faults in her
personality. The main fault is her desire to control people and matchmake them. This also raises
issues, including the position of women and Emma s social status, marriage and comedy which is
shown through irony, especially in the relationship between Emma and Harriet.
The first thing we read is Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever and rich . By ... Show more content on

This shows that Austen had views ahead of her time. When Emma hears of Mr Martin s proposal, she
believes that Harriet s status is higher than his, and should refuse the offer when, in fact, this is not
true at all. In this sense, Emma is very naïve and shows how she misjudges situations. Mr Martin is of
a higher social class than Harriet and also has more money. Here Emma is misusing her patronage.
A further theme of the novel is patronage and how Emma abuses it. When Harriet refuses Mr Martin s
proposal, we can see that Harriet realises that she is in no position to do so, but Emma does not realise
this, portraying Emma as being quite ignorant of this issue. Mr Woodhouse Emma s father is satirised
by Austen to be a worrier, and is oblivious to what goes on around him. He, therefore, does not see
Emma s matchmaking and management of people. He is one of the main people of whom Emma
manages. Through this we see that Austen characterises Emma to abuse her own patronage.
The position of women was an issue in Austen s time and is highlighted in this novel. At this time,
women had very much a lower position in society than men but, because of Emma s inheritance and
family history, she is an exception to the rule. With the power this gives her, we see yet another
contrast between Harriet and Emma. Emma s intelligence and Harriet s lack of it is another contrast.
Emma has this

Pharmacist Accomplishments
Last week, I had the privilege of listening to Dr. Phil Schneider, the director of pharmacy at the Olathe
Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. Dr. Schneider s lecture reemphasized the need for students to
consider residency programs after graduating from the Doctor of Pharmacy program (PharmD). As a
third year pharmacy student, I have heard so much about how residency could make me an
outstanding pharmacist, but never took it seriously. However, hearing it directly from a director of
pharmacy that residency will get me the job, promotion and networking opportunities after graduation
has rekindled my interest in doing residency. Since the inception of my pharmacy program, I have
never given doing a residency program the consideration I have given ... Show more content on

Dr. Schneider spoke about how he succeeded his boss after she left for another job offer because his
employers considered him better trained and equipped for the job as a result of doing a residency. For
a pharmacist who just started working without any prior residency training, the confidence to serve at
a higher level would have been missing. It is certain that residency will give me the experience to be
well rounded in my profession and also confer the confidence I need to take on more challenging roles
in life. Another way residency can help me as a pharmacist is in the aspect of building a strong
networking team. As a resident, I will have the opportunity to work with numerous people from
different backgrounds where knowledge transfer can take place. This will help me learn new skills,
new ideas, and also gain meaningful experience from other senior colleagues. There would be times I
need advice in making a therapeutic decision and knowing someone to call could make a huge
difference.
In conclusion, doing a residency program after graduation is such a great way to be an outstanding and
successful pharmacist in life. Residency will not only get me a dream job, but it can also help me gain
accelerated promotion in my work place and build a strong networking foundation as a

Treaty Of Paris Dbq
What is the Treaty of Paris? Why does it matter to me? Well, to answer these questions, the Treaty of
Paris was a document signed on September 3, 1783. This document was a significant event in history
because it represented the British acknowledgment of American Independence. The French and Indian
War (the cause for the treaty) was the result of France and Great Britain s conflict mainly over Ohio
River Valley and one other territory. Without it, who knows what America would be like today.

Critical Appraisal Of The Clinical Pharmacist
Critical appraisal of the role of the clinical pharmacist in Cystic Fibrosis

Critical appraisal of the role of the clinical pharmacist in Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life shortening, genetic, multisystem disease. It mainly affects the respiratory
and the gastrointestinal systems, but it also can involve the endocrine system, sweat glands,
reproductive system, haematological system, bones and joints (Chisholm Burns et al., 2013). The
pathophysiology of CF is caused by a mutation in the CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane
conductance regulator) gene, which acts as a chloride channel on epithelial cells, and it has many
other regulatory roles, for instance it works on inhibiting sodium transport through the epithelial
sodium channel. In order for the disease to develop it require two copies of the abnormal gene i.e. an
autosomal recessive disease (Davies, Alton and Bush, 2007). Until now, almost 2,000 different CFTR
mutations have been discovered and grouped into 5 classes. The most common mutation, appearing in
more than 80% of the patients, is in class II, which is called delta F508 (ΔF508). (De Boeck, Zolin,
Cuppens, Olesen Viviani, 2014). The clinical manifestations of the disease can vary between patients,
according to the age, the severity of the disease and the involved body system. It can appear from an
early age and continues throughout the life of the patient (O Sullivan and Freedman,

Helicopter Parents Bad
Helicopter Parents: Good or Bad?
The most important milestone of being an adult is independence from your parents, including finding
a job, a place to live and, for most, a spouse or partner, and starting your own family. Helicopter
Parents a term used to describe parents who are over clingy or overly influenced in their child s life.
Scientists and teachers are afraid that since it is so easy to keep in touch with people nowadays it is
almost impossible for a young adult to develop their own decision making skills and autonomy. This
paper will examine viewpoint, one, two, and my viewpoint on helicopter parents.
For starters, helicopter parents are uncontrollable and do not give their child enough space to develop
their own independence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, not most people know what a helicopter parent is, and cannot even distinguish one from a
regular parent. For example, Sharon Jayson, author of USA Today, shares The line between a caring
and involved parent and a hovering Helicopter parent is getting even murkier. New research says it is
a distinct form of parenting that can have positive effects towards young adults (Jayson). Thus, there is
a distinct difference between a caring parent and a helicopter parent. Secondly, parents are supposed to
be loving and in contact with their child. For instance, Jayson reports helicopter parents might be
privacy invaders and sometimes controlling, but done out of strong parental concern for their kids
success. Therefore, helicopter parents only want the absolute best for their kid. Thirdly, it is found that
millennial kids need more support and more strict parents to be successful. To illustrate, Jayson shows
a study published in August, Journal of Marriage and Family that shows young adults have better
psychological tuning than those who do not have intense backing monetary, help and emotional.
Hence, more involved and over caring parents are helpful both emotional and physical. For all these
reasons, helicopter parents are just like any over caring, emotionally helpful, and guiding parent that

Comparing Ancient Vs. Ancient Philosophers
In comparing ancient skeptics Titus Lucretius Carcus and Wang Ch ung they come from two different
backgrounds one of higher education another that had no former learning or training yet have great
theories of mythology and philosophy of what was to be or could be in a person life. Special fears that
shaped their lives and caused them to be superstitious and even skeptical in the way they lived their
own lives. Skepticism is considered is an attitude of doubting the truth of something, such as a claim
or statement. (Webster Dictionary, 2016). Titus Lucretius Carcus was well educated Roman (R.
Latham, 1951). Yet had many different superstitions in belief that is was caused by the darkness of the
mind brought about superstitions fears should be scattered by a dispassionate view of the inner law of
nature. (R. Latham, 1951). Let us look at some of his philosophy to see and understand him a little
better in why he was skeptical in nature. One of his philosophy was the theory on the fear of death was
that the people should fear sickness and famine rather than that of the grave or life after. That is not
the parts of the body that support life, but the wind the life giving wind that leaves our body that is
death. (R. Latham, 1951). Wang Ch ung believed that in death the body becomes unconscious like
unto sleep where the body does not react to anything happening around it. (A.Forke, 1907). Also upon

Mrs. Wishart s Presentation Of Female Characters In Jasper...
1) Gender Issues In Jasper Jones, male characters are portrayed as the controlling species. An example
of this would be the Shire President, Pete Wishart. He controlled and bullied his wife. He even abused
his own daughter. The female characters are portrayed as less dominant and emotionally unstable.
When Laura told Mrs. Wishart, her mother, that her father was abusing her, Mrs. Wishart called her a
liar and defended him. This makes it seem like women did not have any natural affection for their
children. In society, females were less dominant. They usually stayed at home to cook, clean, and take
care of the children. The men, however, were the money makers. They worked while the women
stayed home. This gave men power over the women because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At first he was a young, smart thirteen boy, who took his privileges for granted. When he saw Laura s
body, he had to quickly mature and rise to the occasion to help Jasper. This helped Charlie to see the
evil in the world and complicated his view of right and wrong. Seeing Jasper s difficult life and
everything he had to go through made Charlie think about himself and all the privileges he has. From
the start of the novel, Charlie s maturity and intelligence deepens. This causes Charlie to willingly
help Jasper find out who killed Laura. Another important character is Jasper Jones. From an early age,
Jasper has had to raise himself. His mother died in a car accident and his father is always drunk and
incapable of taking care of him. Jasper s maturity helps him to be level headed in situations that would
get a reaction from others. For example, when Jasper saw Laura hanging from the tree and choking, he
tried to save her. Then, he ran and got Charlie to help him. Some people in a similar situation would
have panicked, but due to Jasper s maturity, his reactions are mostly sensible. A change does occur
when Jasper finds out that Jack Lionel is his grandfather. In the beginning, Jasper allowed Corrigan s
lies and rumors to taint his view of the situation, and he immediately was set on proving Lionel guilty.
This changes when he finds out the truth about Laura s death and his relationship with Jack Lionel.

Themes Of Kipling
Orwell and the Underlying Themes of Kipling In an assessment of Rudyard Kipling s work, George
Orwell claims Kipling is is a jingo imperialist, he is morally insensitive and aesthetically disgusting.
Orwell assesses Kipling s work as being outdated from a nineteenth century imperialist outlook that is
no longer applicable to modern society. He disclosed Kipling s lack of knowledge on economic forces
giving reason behind Kipling s stories not syncing with the natural history that took place after. He
exposes Kipling s weaknesses as only being able to write about things that have already happened,
confining Kipling as only a writer of his time. Orwell compares Kipling to a shameful pleasure, like
the taste for cheap sweets that some people secretly carry into middle life. Orwell is not completely
critical of Kipling. For example, he believes Kipling appeals to audiences by communicating as the
voice of the common man. He writes from the heart and appeals to audiences, not financially, but
emotionally. Orwell also finds Kipling s realistic vision of war to be impressive, since he had not
physically been in battle. Furthermore, Orwell defends Kipling against the false allegations of being a
Fascist. Orwell claims He [Kipling] was further from being one than the most humane or the most
progressive person is able to be nowadays. Though it is evident that Kipling s imperialist viewpoint
heavily influences his writing, Orwell s interpretations of The White Seal and

Spanish American War Analysis
It is important to read historical accounts of other countries in regard to analyzing the Spanish
American War because it helps to paint a more full picture of what caused the war. From one
perspective only a partial story is told, which can seem bias or can be completely wrong. This is seen
in the Spanish American War from the perspective of Americans. It would seem that it is the Spanish s
fault for the destruction of the USS Maine, but once a different perspective is taken, it is realized that
the explosion came from the inside of the USS Maine. We know it came from the inside because the
hull of the wreckage is pointing outwards. This means the U.S. Maine was exploded intentionally to
spark conflict, meaning it wasn t the Spanish s fault.

a sport I committed myself to every day. I knew I was not going to be playing at the pro or college
level yet I wanted to have a good high school team; unfortunately that didn t happen. My junior year,
we won two games and lost the rest. During my senior year we won four games and lost the rest, but
that was two more games won than the previous year. Sometimes I felt like all that work and
commitment was not worth it. During the last home game, however my team and I did something
outrageous. We proved to all those newspapers, opposing teams, and loyal and un loyal fans that with
hard work and team work, we were able to achieve great things. I was excited but also sad for my last
home game. The team geared up and headed down Rattle Snake Hill, a hill we go down every home
game to get to the field. Before the game we had a ceremony to recognize all the seniors because it
was going to be our last home game. I paid attention to half of the ceremony while the other half
focused on the other team and how they were twice our size and twice as many players. A lot of us had
no hope in winning this game, but we wanted to have fun on our last home game. We were in the
huddle, ready to go out to kick off. The ball was kicked, and the ball headed towards me. I caught the
ball, ran the ball in a few yards, and I gave my team good field position. The opposing team were fast

Essay on The Power and Significance of Congress
The Power and Significance of Congress Firstly it is important to look at the power and significance
of congress as a legislative body. This includes the creation of law, and the scrutiny of the executive.
Because the US federal system is ruled by separation of powers , it is important that the legislative
congress acts as a good check and restraint on the executive the president. The most significant power
that congress has is to create and pass legislation. Most of the creation is down to congressional
committees specialist groups of congressman who revise and investigate laws into their own
committee s interests, for example The House Science Committee. Some of the legislation can ...

This is also a major constraint on presidential power if there are united houses, because the president
would find it hard to pass law, and counter laws that he didn t want. The House has a few exclusive
powers that the Senate does not. The House is the only one of the two that can initiate money bills.
The president himself nor EXOP can do such a thing. This offers the House of Representatives a large
scope of power in financial issues abroad and domestically. Impeachment is also another power
possessed by the House. If a president or a member of the federal government has been acting illegally
or unconstitutionally the House can impeach formally accuse them of it. This is then trialed in the
Senate, but offers the House a lot of power over the president, and helps congress with it s scrutiny of
the executive. The Senate also has a few exclusive powers that are strong in the right circumstances.
The senate confirms appointments by a simple majority to most appointments made by the president.
These include all the president s appointments to the federal judiciary and most of the appointments to
the executive branch. This results in the president needing the senate s consent a lot of the time. The
second significant exclusive power is the power to ratify all treaties negotiated by the president,

The Theme Of Slavery In Sold By Patricia Mccormick
How is the theme of slavery developed in the novel?
Sold is a novel by Patricia McCormick published in the year 2006. The story is about Lakshmi the
protagonist who is a thirteen year old girl living in a village in Nepal with her family. Being
desperately poor and the fact that later the Himalayan monsoons destroy the family s crops she must
go take a job in the city says her stepfather. Told that she will work as a maid in the city she is taken to
India but the harsh reality is that she is sold into prostitution. Lakshmi is trapped and faces the horrors
of being in a brothel. It is a haunting story talking about sexual slavery and how a heinous act still
plagues the world.

The tone is moving and touching likewise the words are also so intense that makes us think that the
author may have deliberately chosen them. Some powerful examples are in between, men come. They
crush my bones...nightmares and I inhale deeply, drinking in the scent of mountains.....and fresh roti .
The ending may seem unsatisfying and incomplete. It is an introductory phrase Harish taught her at
the brothel. The deeper meaning of the ending is that the escape of these victims is uncertain and
improper. Also there is no proper solution to the victim s life. She may not get what she deserves or
her family would not accept her. Their future is uncertain and if they escape they would not be fully
free.
Patricia McCormick mentions that It is in their honour that this book is written . Slavery as we know
is the main theme of the novel. The tone, mood, writing, style, ending and setting enhance the
meaning of the story. The National book Awards has rightly quoted that Told in a series of haunting
vignettes, Sold is a harrowing account of sexual slavery. Alternating lyrical imagery with precise
detail, The author wanted to spread awareness on modern slavery as a whole and it is very well

Vienna Research Paper
Vienna (Wien as said in German) is the capital of Austria and is a thriving city full of stunning artwork
and teeming with culture. Situated in the centre of Europe, it is encompassed by many hills with great
connections to major waterways. From a beginning as a Celtic settlement in roughly 500 BC, it
changed hands countless times, becoming a significant city in Rome and the capital of many great
empires. It became a huge trading city through its use of the land routes and the Danube (Europe s
second longest river). In 1804 Vienna developed into the capital of the Austrian empire and has stayed
constant since. With modern technology (Cars, trains, other methods) it has been able to grow further

The positioning of Vienna, close to the Hungarian empire and closer proximity to the Oriental empires
(Who had extensive trade with the European cities with spices, silk and other valuables) made it a
crucial business area where cultures blended, and people mingled with each other. This helped
diversify Vienna, incorporating other cultures ways of life, allowing Vienna to become one of the
main intellectual hubs of the world. To this day Vienna is still well known for its world class music
universities and the teaching of some of the world s greatest minds. The diversification of Vienna has
further helped create immense wealth with the architecture and artworks admired by the world
bringing in many tourists, including the wealthy in the grand tour. Some of the greatest buildings you
can see in Vienna include the Grand Hotel, Schonbrunn Palace and the magnificent buildings along

The Uniqueness Of The Kodaly Method
Chapter One The Uniqueness of the Kodaly Method Zoltan Kodaly chose a child developmental
approach when developing his method. This approach teaches skills in the order and pace in which the
child develops rather than subject logic. In a subject logic approach there is no relationship between
the order of presentation and the order in which children learn easily. The subject matter is simply
organized in a fashion that seems reasonable in terms of content. The subject logic approach
rhythmically begins with the whole note and progresses in a manner that is mathematically reasonable,
proceeding next to the half note and then to the quarter note. This progression is, however, very
difficult for a beginning student who has not yet even learned how to feel a basic beat. Melodically
speaking, the diatonic major scale is the general starting point from a subject logic approach. This also
causes issues because the average young child cannot accurately sing a diatonic major scale.
According to research, most children are able to sing a range of only five or six tones and cannot
produce half steps in tune. Unlike the subject logic approach, the child development approach of the
Kodaly method requires arranging subject matter into patterns that align with the sequence of normal
child abilities at various stages of growth. Rhythmically speaking, moving rhythms are more child
related than sustained rhythms. Children can relate a rhythm such as steady beat quarter

The Spinal Cord Injury ( Sci )
Introduction
Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) can result in loss or permanent damage of motor, sensory or autonomic
function, generally caused by physical trauma to the spinal cord. In humans the most common type of
SCI is hemisection or contusion (Nandoe Tewarie et al. 2009). This incomplete injury, leads to
swelling or compression of the spinal cord due to bone displacement, resulting in partial loss of
function and/or sensation. Complete severing of the spinal cord fibres can occur, although less often,
and results in impairment of all function and sensation below the trauma site (Sobani et al. 2010). Due
to the complicated physiology of the spinal cord and central nervous system, and their diminished
regenerative properties, currently, there have been no effective forms of treatment of SCI.
SCI occurs in two stages. The primary stage being the physical injury itself causing damage to the
spinal cord, resulting in bruising, a possible demyelination of axons, cell apoptosis as well as
subsequent hemorrhaging at the injury site (Inukai et al. 2009). The secondary stage involves
exacerbation of the damage via initiation of the body s inflammatory response. Immediately following
injury, pro inflammatory cytokines; interleukin beta (IL β) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) are
released from both neighboring and damaged cells, resulting in an up regulation of the inflammatory
response, resulting in cyst formation. These cysts are left behind post inflammation and hamper

the film it shows the Native Americans as a group of people that are eager to laugh and extremely

Learners are buddies with another learner either slightly or more experienced. The two work together
regularly to a project which will go on display at a specific time (i.e. exhibition, science fair.) Buddies
also assist each other on homework or on checking up with each other that homework has been
completed. In the end, neither buddy can take the summative assessment until the other buddy says the

succeed.

Michael Pollan in 2006, published a work that has to some degree changed the way that people eat, or
at the very least attempted to change the way that we think about the food we eat. (Shea 54) Pollan

specifically American s have with food and how very distant we are from it. ( History, Old Favorites

derived from the fact that Pollan is willing and able as an individual, on a very intimate level to trace
all these links to a formidable conclusion, as well as his own credential as a consumer and a food

Oil underlines Pollan s story about agribusiness, but corn is its focus. American cattle fatten on corn.
Corn also feeds poultry, pigs and sheep, even farmed fish. But that s just the beginning. In addition to
dairy products from corn fed cows and eggs from corn fed chickens, corn starch, corn oil and corn
syrup make up key ingredients in prepared foods. High fructose corn syrup sweetens everything from
juice to toothpaste. Even the alcohol in beer is corn based. Corn is in everything from frozen yogurt to
ketchup, from mayonnaise and mustard to hot dogs and bologna, from salad dressings to vitamin pills.

Predator-Prey Relationships
Type here. Generally in nature there is only one type of relationship the predator and prey relationship.
Everyone knows that relationship but in some instances two of the same or different species can work
together for a mutual goal. However sometimes they can become the most uncanny pair of friends the
world has ever seen.
The first instance in which two of the same species would work together would be like in a wolf pack
when a mother has just had a litter of puppies. Some of the wolves will bring the mother food to feed
her young.while the pack does this the mother is teaching her little ones the hierarchy of the pack and
how to use their heightened senses to track prey and find other wolves. Once the pups are old enough
to start hunting and help bring in food the mother can also go back to helping. Once mating season
rolls around again the whole process starts again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this relationship both species help one another to survive. The relationship starts with the hermit
crab walking along the ocean floor it is hiding from predators because it has no way to protect its
back. That is where the sea anemone comes into play. The sea anemone gets a free ride on the hermit
crabs back and stings any predators that come close. This type of relationship is called mutualism it is
when both species benefit.
In conclusion there are many types of relationships between species not just predator and prey. These
animals can work together to benefit one another. However some animals are not looking for someone

My Life In America As An Undocumented Immigrants Summary
Outlaw: My Life In America As An Undocumented Immigrant by Jose Antonio Vargas from the New
York Times, is a narrative essay that focuses on telling a story of past events. Vargas proposes that
since he grew up in America that this is considered his home. Vargas believed he would be granted
citizenship if he worked harder and achieved more. His motivation of sharing his childhood journey
would be the relief of him coming forward about his legal status to those who were not aware and to
those who he truly cares about but could not risk sharing his story with. Vargas tone and stance attracts
people who are or have already been through the same path and for those that come to America to live
the American Dream like Vargas intended to. Vargas concludes he is trapped in duplicity and being
dishonest about his legal status is destroying his character. Even though, Vargas convinces me about
his difficult journey as an undocumented immigrant, his belief that coming forward with the truth of
his legal status will allow him to regain his values or the trust of those who he has already lied to is
unconvincing because after all those years it has become a part of his selfhood.
Throughout the essay, Vargas references the inner struggle that he had to face day in and day out. The
fear of being uncover, the stress behind who can be trusted and what he was able to do. Vargas worked
towards gaining a career hoping it would have a positive influence in his legalization status. It means

Colors in The Great Gatsby
Colors are very apparent in The Great Gatsby. They often show up as descriptions to many important
items throughout the book, and make those items resemble symbols. The color white confuses the
reader, and often causes him/her to rethink their logic. It describes false purity and deception within
something, which is very apparent in the character Daisy in this novel. The color grey gives the reader
a comparison, and that is of humans to machines. Something that is lifeless is described as grey. After
that, there is the final color of blue, something that is very dreamy. This is mostly associated with the
eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg but is also seen in other things as well. The colors white, grey, and blue
cause the reader to rethink this whole book, and are associated with the most important symbols, in
this novel. It is colors that truly make The Great Gatsby, a marvelous book to read. White describes a
falseness of purity of something that is deceiving. This is shown in the beginning of the novel when
the brazen Jordan Baker and Daisy Buchanan are both introduced to Nick Carraway. ...that was as

both of my guesses were wrong. For our speeches, we either record them online and invite classmates
as audience members to watch, or have a live audience of family and/or friends that record you giving

would be giving my speeches, I was so surprised. When I am speaking in front of a live audience in a

The On The Processing Of Swallowing
The processing of swallowing, called deglutition, contains three main stages. The first stage is
voluntary, which is the oral stage in the mouth in which we control. The second stage is the
pharyngeal stage, and that is autonomic; controlled by the autonomic nervous system. Lastly, the third
stage is esophageal stage, which entails the food traveling from the pharynx downward to the stomach
through the esophagus. The esophageal stage is also autonomic.
Deglutition is a complicated process involving multiple structures of the oral cavity, pharynx, and
esophagus. The first stage is initiated when food enters the mouth. The process starts with chewing, or
mastication. The tongue can control movements of the food within the mouth during mastication.
Saliva also moistens the food as the food is being masticated. While the tongue, teeth, and cheeks are
working together, the process of mastication turns the food into bolus, which is a solid collection of
food. The tongue presses the bolus against the hard palate as swallowing occurs, gathering a
backwards movement. The bolus goes through the oral cavity down to the oropharynx. After this
voluntary stage, everything else becomes autonomic.
The sensory nerves located in the oropharynx, sends messages to the medulla oblongata via cranial
nerves (trigeminal and glossopharyngeal nerves). The medulla oblongata comprises the swallowing
center, known as the deglutition center. The bolus of food is processed from the oral cavity to the

Deadly force is a force that a person uses causing, or that a person knows or should know would
create a substantial risk of causing, death or seriously bodily harm or injury. Perhaps the most
important kind of discretion that police must exercise relates to the use of force. Although police
officers are legally empowered to use force in certain situations, they may use only the level of force
necessary to meet a lawful police objective (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The enormous
public attention to allegations of excessive force has deflected attention from the most common forms
of police behavior that lead to citizen complaints. Rudeness, discourtesy, or a failure to provide
adequate service make up the majority of complaints in every jurisdiction (Walker, Mediating Citizen
Complaints). The excessive use of force leads to deadly force. In my opinion, I think that if people
would just cooperate with police officers instead of resisting arrest or etc. there wouldn t be such use
of excessive force or even deadly force. In 2010, we saw a large increase in the number of deadly
force encounters our officers were involved in. Historically, the city has had about six officer involved
shootings per year. We had 14 in 2010, and the majority of those were fatal. (Police Executive
Research Forum, An Integrated Approach). Chief Ray Schultz from Albuquerque on the deadly force
encounters in the

Psychology Should Be About Behavior And Not About An Inner...
B.F. Skinner was a psychologist that seemed to go against what many other psychologists thought
about personality. He did not believe in personality. In a way, Skinner has a point about personality not
existing because we do change our behavior based on the environment we are in. (Olson Hergenhahn,
2011.) Since there is no proof of a personality, I believe that psychology should be about behavior and
not about an inner force. I do not believe a person is consistent across time because if they were
consistent across time, every person would always act the same no matter what situation they are in.
Many times, after the death of a loved one, a person acts a little different and often times seems lose
for a period of time. Due to the environmental change, a happy and lovable person may seem sad and
standoffish during the death of a loved one. Not only did Skinner not believe in personality, he had his
own opinion on personality. (Introduction.) He believed that if children are not properly reinforced or
engaged in school, the children may drop out. (B. F. Skinner on Education.) Modifying a child s
learning behavior begins with a classroom environment that involves a rewarding atmosphere. This
way, the child will be rewarded by coming to school and learning something. The problem with the
reward system is that you want to slowly wean the children off of the reward system over time, in a
way conditioning the children to be positively reinforced without having to be rewarded.

How Atticus Finch and Elie Wiesel Demonstrate Heoric...
According to Umberto Eco, The real hero is always a hero by mistake.... In other words, one doesn t
act heroic as a lifestyle, but by surprise when the time comes to do so. To be heroic means to put
others before you in a desperate time of someone else s despair. Two works of literature that agree
with the critical lens are the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee and the memoir,
Night, by Elie Wiesel. Atticus Finch and Elie Wiesel both demonstrate heroic actions unintentionally.
Atticus Finch from, To Kill a Mockingbird, is characterized as a wise man that is an exceptional father
to his children and always teaches them the right perspective about life and the people around them.
He was appointed to the lawyer for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Atticus was like a wise owl, he continuously strived to teach his children the way he taught himself
how to deal with daily conflicts in life. When the father of the girl who was raped spit in Atticus face,
he said that he would take getting spit in the face as many times as it saves the girl from getting beaten
by her father. Another scenario, is that when men rioted at the jail the night before they moved Tom,
he said although they were mad they were still good people. Atticus symbolized a hero; he always
wanted to give everyone else the benefit of the doubt. He always looked for the good in everything.
Elie Wiesel was the protagonist of the memoir Night who overcomes many obstacles while in the
Holocaust. Elie was fifteen when he was put in concentration camps. He was separated from his
mother and sisters forever; they were immediately sent to the crematoriums. All Elie had was his
father who never showed much emotion or affection. Elie lied about his age and said he was older so
he could stay with his father as he was advised to by a stranger who was also in the Holocaust. Elie
was worked, almost to death, for one year. He also maintained to keep with his father and keep him
motivated and hopeful till the very end. Throughout the year he watched his father be beaten, stripped
down, and nearly dead. Elie had also been beaten; he had been especially victimized by a Kapo named

A Experiment On Hydrogen Peroxide
Hypothesis
Hydrogen peroxide sometimes can be utilized to produce oxygen gas. One of the way to cause the
decomposition reaction is to add some catalyst. Liver solution contains catalase which is from the
liver cells. After the cells being broken down, the catalase is released and dissolves in water. As the
catalyst, liver solution can cause the reaction of hydrogen peroxide and therefore release the oxygen
that is produced in the reaction. If the volume of hydrogen peroxide increases while other controlled
variables remain the same, then the volume of oxygen gas will also increase, because the more
reactant there is, the more gas will be produced. An increase in volume also means an increase in
mass, as well as the number of molecules in the reactant.
Raw Data Table
Volume of Oxygen Produced (mL) by Hydrogen Peroxide (mL) with liver solution as catalyst in 1
Minute of Time
Volume of hydrogen peroxide (mL) (+/ 0.5mL) Trials Volume of oxygen gas produced (mL) (+/
0.5mL)
2.0 1 10.5 2 19.0 3 22.5
6.0 1 24.0 2 30.0 3 44.5
10.0 1 34.5 2 43.0 3 65.3
14.0 1 43.6 2 48.0 3 76.2

Method for calculating uncertainties: the minimum scale on the graduated cylinder used to measure
the volume was 1mL. The uncertainty here is a half of the minimum value that is available. To
calculate the uncertainty, the value of 1mL has to be divided by 2 which should get an uncertainty of
+/ 0.5mL.

Dementia Narrative Report
The year 2016 has started! Did you have a relax time with your family and friends? I appeared on the
Kyushu local programs to talk about cancer and dementia in seven times during my New Year s
holiday. Since I am usually an interviewer, a talk made me so nervous! After that, I continuously
worked for coverage and editing and in Saga prefecture, and I am on my way to Gunma prefecture. I
am terribly sorry to make you so busy for shopping instead of me during Christmas. However, I really
appreciate your kindness. Did you have a chance to decorate with flowers in Doris room? How is
Aisha doing after that? I will have my free time for one or two days after the actual telecast of a
dementia program on January 17, so I will try to write

Importance Of Security Controls And Business Strategy For...
1. Introduction
Defense in depth is a commonly cited best practices strategy for achieving Information Assurance. It
is an approach to security that layers controls thus increasing security for the system as a whole
(United States National Security Agency, n.d.). Security controls derive from three primary categories:
Administrative, Technical/Logical, and Physical/Environmental (Harris Kumar, 2013, p. 28). To help
mature and improve information security as a process and business enabler, it is critical that
organizations adapt their understanding and cogency of administrative controls. The information
security market is flooded with technical solutions that fit into technical/logical control categories. As
more businesses move to the Cloud, physical and environmental controls are relegated to third parties.
To achieve true Defense in Depth, businesses must further develop their Administrative controls and
efforts. This enables the business to understand the value of security, and enables security to align with
business strategy (Cano M., Ph.D, CFE, 2014, p. 51 55). This paper will examine the importance of
administrative information security controls and the role they play in Defense in Depth strategies by
discussing the maturity of security programs, discovery of security program foundations, frameworks,
and process, enterprise security architecture, and the governance of information security strategies.

Queen Elizabeth The First
Discerning Worldview I thank God, she once told Parliament, I am endowed with such qualities that if
I were turned out of the realm in my petticoat, I were able to live I any place in Christendom (Ashby
12 16). Queen Elizabeth the First is one of England s most well known monarchs. Elizabeth was a
great ruler and dealt with many of England s issues. Elizabeth s main concern throughout her reign
was peace and stability of the realm, and religious persecution was only adopted when certain
religious groups threatened this peace (Sharnette). Elizabeth wanted her people to live in peace and
enjoy stability which, was joyously welcomed by the people of England. Elizabeth Tudor was the
daughter of the famous English monarch, King Henry VIII, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She believed that there was only one God, Jesus Christ and made sure that she showed that through
her speeches and the way she ruled England. Many would most likely agree with Elizabeth s beliefs
and ideology because Elizabeth believed in Jesus and because of the way she always would pray to
God for guidance daily when she became Queen of England. Elizabeth also didn t want to sentence
anyone to death, probably because she had seen all the executions that her father, King Henry VIII,
was responsible for and couldn t bear to be anything like her father. This can be shown through her
taking twenty years before having her cousin, Mary Stuart, who tried to take her throne, executed. She
also liked to encourage her people and also was good friends with a lot of them before she even
became queen. She had become so popular, that they would celebrate her coronation date every year.
Elizabeth was also kind and generous enough to allow the arts to flourish during her reign and because
of this, writers, and playwrights would honor her in their plays and artists would paint her picture to
honor her. Queen Elizabeth not only helped the arts to blossom, but also allowed for Protestantism to
become more wide

Cabaret Movie Analysis
Throughout the history of the world, societies have always tried to imagine a utopian way of life
and/or society. But in other cases, the use of raunchy apparel and countless bottles of alcohol are used
to deny the idea of an uprising of a totalitaristic government. This is a brief summary of the two hours
and four minutes of the musical drama Cabaret, directed by Bob Fosse.
Cabaret was pulled from the pages of The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood and later on
adapted into a twelve Tony award winning Broadway musical in 1966. Later on, after Cabaret became
dormant in public eye, Bob Fosse adopted the musical and decided to put in on the big screens in
1972. Fosse made no mistake of recruiting large names for his movie, such as Liza Minnelli, Michael
York and Joel Gray. The Screenplay of Cabaret would continue on to win eight academy awards,
resulting in an almost near sweep of the 1973 oscars, and be named three hundred and sixty seven on
Empire s list of greatest five hundred movies of all time.
Liza Minnelli received the most recognition for her portrayal of socially conflicted Sally Bowles.
Minnelli had been lesser known before her role in Cabaret. Before Cabaret, Minnelli had a few small
roles, and had mainly been performing on stage in front of live audiences. She was known for being
the daughter of Judy Garland, the original Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. Minelli, before hitting the
big screen, received the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for

  • 2. Theme Of Justice in The Big Sleep and The Black Cat Essay The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler and The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe both approach the theme of justice and present it in dissimilar ways. The Big Sleep presents justice as something which you can achieve through beliefs and morals, without the use of money and crime. The Black Cat presents justice as something which is absolute and something which you cannot escape psychologically, a force which is inevitable. In The Big Sleep, a conversation between Philip Marlowe and Vivien Sternwood is proceeding, in which Marlowe is offered $15,000 to be silenced over the disappearance of Rusty Regan, and within the conversation the reader is given an insight into the motivations and morals of Marlowe, and his own personal view of the topic in ... The refusal shows Marlowe s anti heroic status, as he appreciates the advantages of corruption but believes the well being of his client and ... to protect what little pride a broken and sick old man has left in his blood is more important. Edgar Allen Poe s tales usually contain graphic imagery and themes of fear and horror, all shown in The Black Cat. In this extract, as it written in a narrative form it shows the true psychological struggle between the narrator and their demons as it explores the criminal mind from a first person point of view, noticing both character and motivation. The aspects of justice shown in The Black Cat are Criminal Justice and the ideology of Religious Justice. Unlike The Big Sleep, the Criminal Justice System of the 19th century was much more ruthless in that even the narrator is aware his actions will get recognised and punished, an action which appears inevitably. Revealed later on, the narrator explains that he has been consigned to the hangman, an act of Criminal Justice upon the narrator. The infinite mercy of the Most Merciful and Most Terrible God , a common notion in the 1800 s was that justice would be served ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Simple Art Of Masquerade The Simple Art of Masquerade Centuries ago, long before the thoughts of man were transcribed into words, drawings were used to convey the thoughts and ideas, each telling a story like no other, with an even greater discord between the accurate meanings of the story and meaning which the reader garnered from the tale. Fast forward a few centuries to a time where stories were ultimately being shared by word of mouth, altering a bit from the original thoughts and ideas of the author who formerly spoke the tale. However, it is not only the authors portrayal of the characters that is important, but the interactions amongst the characters themselves. It is within Raymond Chandler s The Big Sleep that he presents each character through the eyes of Philip Marlowe, and is able to present who they are trying to be, who they are, and the moral issues which arise in each. Chandler manipulates costumes and setting to show who Carmen Sternwood s character is trying to be, who she really is and the moral issues associated with each of these as seen through the eyes of Philip Marlowe. Since countless of the characters throughout The Big Sleep do not show their true colors until the end of the book or characters life, which the latter seems to be sooner than the former, the literary clues given by Chandler to determine who they are trying to be as well as who they truly are is uniquely important. She tries to portray herself as an innocent little girl, in order to woo Marlowe, but to no avail. For example, in the first encounter with Philip Marlowe, she wore pale blue slacks, with the pale blue color associated closely with that of a newborn baby, showing that her character is one that is trying to give off a sense of childishness (5). Not only is she seen constantly giggling but she also uses elementary words such as cute, furthering her agenda of trying to act like a little girl. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Emma s Management of Harriet s Affairs in Jane Austen s... Emma s Management of Harriet s Affairs in Jane Austen s Emma In this novel, Jane Austen uses the relationship between Emma and Harriet to highlight the important issues. She uses Emma s management of Harriet to do this. She creates contrast between Emma and Harriet, she portrays Emma as beautiful and intelligent though we can still see faults in her personality. The main fault is her desire to control people and matchmake them. This also raises issues, including the position of women and Emma s social status, marriage and comedy which is shown through irony, especially in the relationship between Emma and Harriet. The first thing we read is Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever and rich . By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows that Austen had views ahead of her time. When Emma hears of Mr Martin s proposal, she believes that Harriet s status is higher than his, and should refuse the offer when, in fact, this is not true at all. In this sense, Emma is very naïve and shows how she misjudges situations. Mr Martin is of a higher social class than Harriet and also has more money. Here Emma is misusing her patronage. A further theme of the novel is patronage and how Emma abuses it. When Harriet refuses Mr Martin s proposal, we can see that Harriet realises that she is in no position to do so, but Emma does not realise this, portraying Emma as being quite ignorant of this issue. Mr Woodhouse Emma s father is satirised by Austen to be a worrier, and is oblivious to what goes on around him. He, therefore, does not see Emma s matchmaking and management of people. He is one of the main people of whom Emma manages. Through this we see that Austen characterises Emma to abuse her own patronage. The position of women was an issue in Austen s time and is highlighted in this novel. At this time, women had very much a lower position in society than men but, because of Emma s inheritance and family history, she is an exception to the rule. With the power this gives her, we see yet another contrast between Harriet and Emma. Emma s intelligence and Harriet s lack of it is another contrast. Emma has this ... Critical Appraisal Of The Clinical Pharmacist Critical appraisal of the role of the clinical pharmacist in Cystic Fibrosis Wael Yahya A Khawagi Student ID: 14122011 Critical appraisal of the role of the clinical pharmacist in Cystic Fibrosis Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life shortening, genetic, multisystem disease. It mainly affects the respiratory and the gastrointestinal systems, but it also can involve the endocrine system, sweat glands, reproductive system, haematological system, bones and joints (Chisholm Burns et al., 2013). The pathophysiology of CF is caused by a mutation in the CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator) gene, which acts as a chloride channel on epithelial cells, and it has many other regulatory roles, for instance it works on inhibiting sodium transport through the epithelial sodium channel. In order for the disease to develop it require two copies of the abnormal gene i.e. an autosomal recessive disease (Davies, Alton and Bush, 2007). Until now, almost 2,000 different CFTR mutations have been discovered and grouped into 5 classes. The most common mutation, appearing in more than 80% of the patients, is in class II, which is called delta F508 (ΔF508). (De Boeck, Zolin, Cuppens, Olesen Viviani, 2014). The clinical manifestations of the disease can vary between patients, according to the age, the severity of the disease and the involved body system. An example of this would be the Shire President, Pete Wishart. He controlled and bullied his wife. He even abused his own daughter. The female characters are portrayed as less dominant and emotionally unstable. When Laura told Mrs. Wishart, her mother, that her father was abusing her, Mrs. Wishart called her a liar and defended him. This makes it seem like women did not have any natural affection for their children. In society, females were less dominant. They usually stayed at home to cook, clean, and take care of the children. Orwell assesses Kipling s work as being outdated from a nineteenth century imperialist outlook that is no longer applicable to modern society. He disclosed Kipling s lack of knowledge on economic forces giving reason behind Kipling s stories not syncing with the natural history that took place after. He exposes Kipling s weaknesses as only being able to write about things that have already happened, confining Kipling as only a writer of his time. Orwell compares Kipling to a shameful pleasure, like the taste for cheap sweets that some people secretly carry into middle life. Orwell is not completely critical of Kipling. For example, he believes Kipling appeals to audiences by communicating as the voice of the common man. He writes from the heart and appeals to audiences, not financially, but emotionally. Orwell also finds Kipling s realistic vision of war to be impressive, since he had not physically been in battle. Furthermore, Orwell defends Kipling against the false allegations of being a Fascist. My organization Penske Truck Leasing has been experiencing a sharp decline in the revenue generated from its full service leasing. Results of initial sales analysis concluded that the inflow of the new customers for full service leasing has been growing steadily; thus to increase revenue, the focus needs to be on the renewals for the existing customers. The company realizes that a lack of validated customer loyalty drivers prevents effective focus on customer retention and thus directly affects profitability. Challenges with data availability and business metrics have made attempts to measure and diagnose our service delivery and customer experience, both, difficult and inconclusive. In order to address this challenge, the organization has launched an initiative to build a customer analytics system that can achieve a single view of customer experience and make decisions about how best to acquire and retain customers, recognize high value customers and proactively interact with them. I have been identified as the lead architect for the BI and analytics team that is going to implement this project. I am also privileged to be associated with an initiative that is directed towards human resource analytics that analyzes the performance and profitability that the work force brings to the organization. During my senior year we won four games and lost the rest, but that was two more games won than the previous year. Sometimes I felt like all that work and commitment was not worth it. During the last home game, however my team and I did something outrageous. We proved to all those newspapers, opposing teams, and loyal and un loyal fans that with hard work and team work, we were able to achieve great things. I was excited but also sad for my last home game. The team geared up and headed down Rattle Snake Hill, a hill we go down every home game to get to the field. Before the game we had a ceremony to recognize all the seniors because it was going to be our last home game. I paid attention to half of the ceremony while the other half focused on the other team and how they were twice our size and twice as many players. A lot of us had no hope in winning this game, but we wanted to have fun on our last home game. We were in the huddle, ready to go out to kick off. The ball was kicked, and the ball headed towards me. This offers the House of Representatives a large scope of power in financial issues abroad and domestically. Impeachment is also another power possessed by the House. If a president or a member of the federal government has been acting illegally or unconstitutionally the House can impeach formally accuse them of it. This is then trialed in the Senate, but offers the House a lot of power over the president, and helps congress with it s scrutiny of the executive. The Senate also has a few exclusive powers that are strong in the right circumstances. The senate confirms appointments by a simple majority to most appointments made by the president. These include all the president s appointments to the federal judiciary and most of the appointments to the executive branch. This results in the president needing the senate s consent a lot of the time. The second significant exclusive power is the power to ratify all treaties negotiated by the president, ... • 24. The Uniqueness Of The Kodaly Method Chapter One The Uniqueness of the Kodaly Method Zoltan Kodaly chose a child developmental approach when developing his method. This approach teaches skills in the order and pace in which the child develops rather than subject logic. In a subject logic approach there is no relationship between the order of presentation and the order in which children learn easily. The subject matter is simply organized in a fashion that seems reasonable in terms of content. The subject logic approach rhythmically begins with the whole note and progresses in a manner that is mathematically reasonable, proceeding next to the half note and then to the quarter note. This progression is, however, very difficult for a beginning student who has not yet even learned how to feel a basic beat. Melodically speaking, the diatonic major scale is the general starting point from a subject logic approach. This also causes issues because the average young child cannot accurately sing a diatonic major scale. According to research, most children are able to sing a range of only five or six tones and cannot produce half steps in tune. Unlike the subject logic approach, the child development approach of the Kodaly method requires arranging subject matter into patterns that align with the sequence of normal child abilities at various stages of growth. Rhythmically speaking, moving rhythms are more child related than sustained rhythms. Children can relate a rhythm such as steady beat quarter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. The Spinal Cord Injury ( Sci ) Introduction Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) can result in loss or permanent damage of motor, sensory or autonomic function, generally caused by physical trauma to the spinal cord. In humans the most common type of SCI is hemisection or contusion (Nandoe Tewarie et al. 2009). This incomplete injury, leads to swelling or compression of the spinal cord due to bone displacement, resulting in partial loss of function and/or sensation. Complete severing of the spinal cord fibres can occur, although less often, and results in impairment of all function and sensation below the trauma site (Sobani et al. 2010). Due to the complicated physiology of the spinal cord and central nervous system, and their diminished regenerative properties, currently, there have been no effective forms of treatment of SCI. SCI occurs in two stages. The primary stage being the physical injury itself causing damage to the spinal cord, resulting in bruising, a possible demyelination of axons, cell apoptosis as well as subsequent hemorrhaging at the injury site (Inukai et al. 2009). The secondary stage involves exacerbation of the damage via initiation of the body s inflammatory response. Immediately following injury, pro inflammatory cytokines; interleukin beta (IL β) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) are released from both neighboring and damaged cells, resulting in an up regulation of the inflammatory response, resulting in cyst formation. The ethos of the work is derived from the fact that Pollan is willing and able as an individual, on a very intimate level to trace all these links to a formidable conclusion, as well as his own credential as a consumer and a food writer. My Life In America As An Undocumented Immigrants Summary Outlaw: My Life In America As An Undocumented Immigrant by Jose Antonio Vargas from the New York Times, is a narrative essay that focuses on telling a story of past events. Vargas proposes that since he grew up in America that this is considered his home. Vargas believed he would be granted citizenship if he worked harder and achieved more. His motivation of sharing his childhood journey would be the relief of him coming forward about his legal status to those who were not aware and to those who he truly cares about but could not risk sharing his story with. Vargas tone and stance attracts people who are or have already been through the same path and for those that come to America to live the American Dream like Vargas intended to. Vargas concludes he is trapped in duplicity and being dishonest about his legal status is destroying his character. Even though, Vargas convinces me about his difficult journey as an undocumented immigrant, his belief that coming forward with the truth of his legal status will allow him to regain his values or the trust of those who he has already lied to is unconvincing because after all those years it has become a part of his selfhood. Throughout the essay, Vargas references the inner struggle that he had to face day in and day out. The fear of being uncover, the stress behind who can be trusted and what he was able to do. Vargas worked towards gaining a career hoping it would have a positive influence in his legalization status. It means ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The On The Processing Of Swallowing The processing of swallowing, called deglutition, contains three main stages. The first stage is voluntary, which is the oral stage in the mouth in which we control. The second stage is the pharyngeal stage, and that is autonomic; controlled by the autonomic nervous system. Lastly, the third stage is esophageal stage, which entails the food traveling from the pharynx downward to the stomach through the esophagus. The esophageal stage is also autonomic. Deglutition is a complicated process involving multiple structures of the oral cavity, pharynx, and esophagus. The first stage is initiated when food enters the mouth. The process starts with chewing, or mastication. The tongue can control movements of the food within the mouth during mastication. Saliva also moistens the food as the food is being masticated. While the tongue, teeth, and cheeks are working together, the process of mastication turns the food into bolus, which is a solid collection of food. The tongue presses the bolus against the hard palate as swallowing occurs, gathering a backwards movement. The bolus goes through the oral cavity down to the oropharynx. After this voluntary stage, everything else becomes autonomic. The sensory nerves located in the oropharynx, sends messages to the medulla oblongata via cranial nerves (trigeminal and glossopharyngeal nerves). The medulla oblongata comprises the swallowing center, known as the deglutition center. The bolus of food is processed from the oral cavity to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Coercion And Force Essay In this week s module, I learned and will be explaining the elements comprising the working police personality, I will also identify and explain the variables involved in the use of coercion and force, including deadly force. Finally, I will explain the ethical variables involved in police practices, as well as the factors involved in the use of discretion. The fundamentals of negotiating the working police personality. Police officers treatment of others is influenced by how officers themselves are treated. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Deadly force is a force that a person uses causing, or that a person knows or should know would create a substantial risk of causing, death or seriously bodily harm or injury. Perhaps the most important kind of discretion that police must exercise relates to the use of force. Although police officers are legally empowered to use force in certain situations, they may use only the level of force necessary to meet a lawful police objective (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The enormous public attention to allegations of excessive force has deflected attention from the most common forms of police behavior that lead to citizen complaints. Rudeness, discourtesy, or a failure to provide adequate service make up the majority of complaints in every jurisdiction (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The excessive use of force leads to deadly force. In my opinion, I think that if people would just cooperate with police officers instead of resisting arrest or etc. there wouldn t be such use of excessive force or even deadly force. In 2010, we saw a large increase in the number of deadly force encounters our officers were involved in. Historically, the city has had about six officer involved shootings per year. We had 14 in 2010, and the majority of those were fatal. (Police Executive Research Forum, An Integrated Approach). Chief Ray Schultz from Albuquerque on the deadly force encounters in the ... • 41. Psychology Should Be About Behavior And Not About An Inner... B.F. Skinner was a psychologist that seemed to go against what many other psychologists thought about personality. He did not believe in personality. In a way, Skinner has a point about personality not existing because we do change our behavior based on the environment we are in. (Olson Hergenhahn, 2011.) Since there is no proof of a personality, I believe that psychology should be about behavior and not about an inner force. I do not believe a person is consistent across time because if they were consistent across time, every person would always act the same no matter what situation they are in. Many times, after the death of a loved one, a person acts a little different and often times seems lose for a period of time. Due to the environmental change, a happy and lovable person may seem sad and standoffish during the death of a loved one. Not only did Skinner not believe in personality, he had his own opinion on personality. (Introduction.) He believed that if children are not properly reinforced or engaged in school, the children may drop out. (B. F. Skinner on Education.) Modifying a child s learning behavior begins with a classroom environment that involves a rewarding atmosphere. This way, the child will be rewarded by coming to school and learning something. The problem with the reward system is that you want to slowly wean the children off of the reward system over time, in a way conditioning the children to be positively reinforced without having to be rewarded. ... • 42. How Atticus Finch and Elie Wiesel Demonstrate Heoric... According to Umberto Eco, The real hero is always a hero by mistake.... In other words, one doesn t act heroic as a lifestyle, but by surprise when the time comes to do so. To be heroic means to put others before you in a desperate time of someone else s despair. Two works of literature that agree with the critical lens are the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee and the memoir, Night, by Elie Wiesel. Atticus Finch and Elie Wiesel both demonstrate heroic actions unintentionally. When the father of the girl who was raped spit in Atticus face, he said that he would take getting spit in the face as many times as it saves the girl from getting beaten by her father. Another scenario, is that when men rioted at the jail the night before they moved Tom, he said although they were mad they were still good people. Atticus symbolized a hero; he always wanted to give everyone else the benefit of the doubt. He always looked for the good in everything. Elie Wiesel was the protagonist of the memoir Night who overcomes many obstacles while in the Holocaust. Elie was fifteen when he was put in concentration camps. He was separated from his mother and sisters forever; they were immediately sent to the crematoriums. All Elie had was his father who never showed much emotion or affection. Elie lied about his age and said he was older so he could stay with his father as he was advised to by a stranger who was also in the Holocaust. Elie was worked, almost to death, for one year. • 43. A Experiment On Hydrogen Peroxide Hypothesis Hydrogen peroxide sometimes can be utilized to produce oxygen gas. One of the way to cause the decomposition reaction is to add some catalyst. Liver solution contains catalase which is from the liver cells. After the cells being broken down, the catalase is released and dissolves in water. As the catalyst, liver solution can cause the reaction of hydrogen peroxide and therefore release the oxygen that is produced in the reaction. If the volume of hydrogen peroxide increases while other controlled variables remain the same, then the volume of oxygen gas will also increase, because the more reactant there is, the more gas will be produced. An increase in volume also means an increase in mass, as well as the number of molecules in the reactant. Raw Data Table Volume of Oxygen Produced (mL) by Hydrogen Peroxide (mL) with liver solution as catalyst in 1 Minute of Time Volume of hydrogen peroxide (mL) (+/ 0.5mL) Trials Volume of oxygen gas produced (mL) (+/ 0.5mL) 2.0 1 10.5 2 19.0 3 22.5 6.0 1 24.0 2 30.0 3 44.5 10.0 1 34.5 2 43.0 3 65.3 14.0 1 43.6 2 48.0 3 76.2 18.0 1 54.0 2 77.0 3 85.3 Method for calculating uncertainties: the minimum scale on the graduated cylinder used to measure the volume was 1mL. It is an approach to security that layers controls thus increasing security for the system as a whole (United States National Security Agency, n.d.). Security controls derive from three primary categories: Administrative, Technical/Logical, and Physical/Environmental (Harris Kumar, 2013, p. 28). To help mature and improve information security as a process and business enabler, it is critical that organizations adapt their understanding and cogency of administrative controls. The information security market is flooded with technical solutions that fit into technical/logical control categories. As more businesses move to the Cloud, physical and environmental controls are relegated to third parties. To achieve true Defense in Depth, businesses must further develop their Administrative controls and efforts. This enables the business to understand the value of security, and enables security to align with business strategy (Cano M., Ph.D, CFE, 2014, p. 51 55). This paper will examine the importance of administrative information security controls and the role they play in Defense in Depth strategies by discussing the maturity of security programs, discovery of security program foundations, frameworks, and process, enterprise security architecture, and the governance of information security strategies. 2. Queen Elizabeth The First Discerning Worldview I thank God, she once told Parliament, I am endowed with such qualities that if I were turned out of the realm in my petticoat, I were able to live I any place in Christendom (Ashby 12 16). Queen Elizabeth the First is one of England s most well known monarchs. Elizabeth was a great ruler and dealt with many of England s issues. Elizabeth s main concern throughout her reign was peace and stability of the realm, and religious persecution was only adopted when certain religious groups threatened this peace (Sharnette). Elizabeth wanted her people to live in peace and enjoy stability which, was joyously welcomed by the people of England. She believed that there was only one God, Jesus Christ and made sure that she showed that through her speeches and the way she ruled England. Many would most likely agree with Elizabeth s beliefs and ideology because Elizabeth believed in Jesus and because of the way she always would pray to God for guidance daily when she became Queen of England. Elizabeth also didn t want to sentence anyone to death, probably because she had seen all the executions that her father, King Henry VIII, was responsible for and couldn t bear to be anything like her father. This can be shown through her taking twenty years before having her cousin, Mary Stuart, who tried to take her throne, executed. She also liked to encourage her people and also was good friends with a lot of them before she even became queen. She had become so popular, that they would celebrate her coronation date every year. Elizabeth was also kind and generous enough to allow the arts to flourish during her reign and because of this, writers, and playwrights would honor her in their plays and artists would paint her picture to honor her. • 49. Cabaret Movie Analysis Throughout the history of the world, societies have always tried to imagine a utopian way of life and/or society. But in other cases, the use of raunchy apparel and countless bottles of alcohol are used to deny the idea of an uprising of a totalitaristic government. This is a brief summary of the two hours and four minutes of the musical drama Cabaret, directed by Bob Fosse. Cabaret was pulled from the pages of The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood and later on adapted into a twelve Tony award winning Broadway musical in 1966. Later on, after Cabaret became dormant in public eye, Bob Fosse adopted the musical and decided to put in on the big screens in 1972. Fosse made no mistake of recruiting large names for his movie, such as Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Gray. The Screenplay of Cabaret would continue on to win eight academy awards, resulting in an almost near sweep of the 1973 oscars, and be named three hundred and sixty seven on Empire s list of greatest five hundred movies of all time. Liza Minnelli received the most recognition for her portrayal of socially conflicted Sally Bowles. Minnelli had been lesser known before her role in Cabaret. Before Cabaret, Minnelli had a few small roles, and had mainly been performing on stage in front of live audiences. She was known for being the daughter of Judy Garland, the original Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. Minelli, before hitting the big screen, received the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for ...
