Methanol Vs Isobutanol
Discussion
The results do not support the hypothesis as there is no general trend in the volume contraction.
However, there is a correlation between the number of carbon chains in the alcohol to the
contraction of the mixture. Methanol has had the most volume contraction, while having the least
amount of carbons in the molecule (CH3OH) having an average of 1.206ml in volume contraction.
Whereas Isobutanol, which has the highest amount of carbon chains (C4H9OH), has had the least
amount of average volume contraction of 0.578ml. According to the (Solubility of Things, n.d.), as
the amount of carbon atoms increases in the molecule, the alcohol has less solubility in water. This
is due to how there are more carbon atoms repulsing the water molecule, therefore having less
contact as well as hydrogen bonding with the HO chain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Water molecules contain a unique dipole property, having the hydrogen atoms being slightly more
positive than the oxygen atom, which allows for the attraction between OH chains. Although an
alcohol molecule contains an OH chain, carbon atoms repulse the water molecules while having a
weaker dipole force leading to less volume contraction. Furthermore, due to any disturbances such as
heat or kinetic energy as well as the repulsion from the carbon atoms they are constantly
transitioning throughout the mixture. This is evident from the solubility of isobutanol and water.
As there is a high amount of repulsion between water and alcohol molecules, the alcohol floats,
although there is minute change in volume (refer to results). This separation between liquids
decreases the amount of volume contraction, as they are more segregated as shown in graph 1. This
solubility of isobutanol was expressed in (Solubility of Things, n.d.), having only 0.11% solubility in

Mandate Of Heaven Analysis
Throughout pre unification China, the Mandate of Heaven was used as a justification in the
acquisition and eradication of dynasties. The Mandate of Heaven, the idea that a ruler reigned
only with the blessing of the heavens, was seen as a way to legitimize a dynasty and its ruler.
Although it may seem as if a heavenly mandate gives a rulerabsolute power, this is actually not the
case. Instead, Mencius, a philosopher who emphasizes benevolent governance, asserts that a ruler
can both acquire and lose the heavenly mandate based on his behavior and the treatment of his
subjects. If a ruler is not equitable, in other words, the Mandate of Heavencan be withdrawn and
bestowed upon a more qualified ruler. Thus, although the mandate sounds... Show more content on

Essentially, the heavens bestow the mandate upon the ruler, but the people are a factor in whether
the mandate stays with the ruler or not. Hence, Mencius emphasizes the importance of just rule in
order to please the people and keep the Mandate of Heaven.
Mencius once again underscores the people s role in the heavenly mandate and declares their
right to either abide by or revolt against a ruler. Mencius claims that rulers only possessed the
Heavenly Mandate to rule so long as they retained the hearts of the people . . . For Mencius, the
human heart was endowed with the ability to judge between right and wrong and constituted a
bridge linking man with Heaven (Glanville 331). Mencius s belief in the ability of the heart to
determine right or wrong gives the common people authority and power to identify whether a ruler
is worthy of the mandate and the favor of the heavens. Consequently, it is imperative that the ruler
retains the people s support as negative sentiments can lead to dissent and organized revolt amongst
the people. This emphasis on the intimate and powerful link between the people and the heavens is
translated in Mencius s concept of the ultimate supremacy of the people. Mencius declares that The
people are of supreme importance; the altars to the gods of earth and grain come next; last comes
the ruler (Glanville 332). Mencius prioritizes the

The Stanford Prison Experiment At Stanford University
I. Introduction:
Imagine that the year is 1971, and you are a male college student at Stanford University in
California. Like most college kids, you are strapped for cash, so you begin to seek a part time
job. You see an ad for a psychology study that pays $15 per day posted in the local newspaper,
and decide to submit an application. Little do you know at the time, that the study you are
applying for will become known worldwide and create such an impact that it remains relevant over
44 years later. This infamous study is known today as the Stanford Prison Experiment. The
experiment was led by psychology professor Dr. Philip Zimbardo along with his team of researchers
in the basement of the psychology building at Stanford University. Today, I am going to speak
about why the experiment was conducted, what occurred during the experiment, and the ethical
implications that resulted because of this notorious study.
II. Why the Experiment Was Conducted:
I will begin by explaining why the Stanford Prison Experiment was conducted. Dr. Philip Zimbardo
and his research team sought to examine the effect that social institutions and certain situations
have on an individual s behavior. According to the American Psychological Association, a situation
centered approach to studying human behavior, focuses on factors external to the person
(American Psychological Association). More specifically, Zimbardo wanted to study how quickly
an individual would conform to the role of prisoner or

Mass Hysteria In Society
Human beings are complex. There is not one person on this earth that is perfect, but that s the
beauty of it. Everyone has moments in their lives where they might just go crazy. Mass hysteria is
a condition affecting a group of persons, characterized by excitement or anxiety, irrational behavior
or beliefs, or inexplicable symptoms of illness (Dictionary.com). There have been multiple instances
where large amounts of people have identical symptoms that alienate them from others in society.
Many factors play into the incline of mass hysteriain students over others: similar social problems,
challenges, or traumatic events.
Everyone deals with stress at some point in their life, and students especially are burdened with
many different forms of it. Earlier this year, in the Okongo territory of Ohangwena, Namibia, the
Oshisho Combined School experienced its first outbreak of unnatural behavior. Basically, a bunch
of girls at the school were acting and doing very abnormal things and no one knew what was going
on. According to the African News Service, the students exhibited strange behaviour such as
speaking in what sounded like a strange language. There were a lot of rumors swirling around that
coerced people into thinking that the bizarre behavior, from mostly girls, was related to that of
witchcraft. They diagnosed the girls with the medical condition called Mass Hysteria (African news
service 2017). This quote, and the details succeeding it, supports the idea that

What Does Beatrice’s Language Show About Her Attitudes...
What does Beatrice s language show about her attitudes towards different men in the two different
scenes you have studied? 10th February 2012
Introduction
Much ado nothing is a romantic Shakespeare play about two couples of lovers. The play is set in
Messina, deep in the heart of Italy and is based in Elizabethan times. The lovers are namely;
Claudio and Hero, Bennedick and Beatrice. Claudio is a noble Florentine count from Florence.
Bennedick is a war hero from Padua. Both are honourable war heroes fighting for Don Pedro the
prince of Aragon. Beatrice is the niece of Leonato the Governor of Messina. At the beginning of
the play Don Pedro and his valiant fighters return from the wars to Messina. While at Messina
Claudio immediately falls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However beneath all this fancy language we can derive that Bennedick was painted all over
Beatrice s thoughts and she cannot resist asking about his well being. When the messenger states
he knows none of that name, Hero her cousin says My cousin means Signor Bennedick of Padua
this clearly shows that not only is Bennedick and Beatrice s thoughts he is also a subject of
conversation and discussion between Beatrice and Hero.
The way Beatrice speaks seemingly spitefully about Bennedick shows us she is perhaps interested
in Bennedick and trying not to arouse the suspicion of the messenger and her uncle. By adding
sarcastic comments and insults where Bennedick name appears shows us she is trying hard not to
bring out her real feelings for him, the name Signor Mountanto is one of the names Beatrice has
devised to insult Bennedick however the fact that the name is so complex in meaning and the
inside joke so well thought out shows us she has really thought about this insult and it has not an
insult off the top of her head. Beatrice is more devious and careful about relationships than Claudio
who seems rather desperate to get with Hero and throw himself headfirst into a relationship that he
perhaps knows nothing about. This suggests perhaps she has more experience in love and
relationships and has also experienced disappointment and is afraid of it.
STEP 3
When Bennedick and Beatrice meet they immediately engage in a fierce verbal battle,

Resistance To Change In Fahrenheit 451
The Resistance to Change in Fahrenheit 451
In the novel Fahrenheit 451, multiple abstract and concrete ideas are represented. Those ideas
include the use of the outsiders to represent the old society, the use of the mechanical hound to
represent the resistance to change, and the use of the atomic bomb to symbolize a new reality.
However, these specific examples of representation within the novel are highlighted due to the fact
that they together compose an allegory.
Within the novel, three main societies are expressed through the representation of various
groups or characters. An old society, a middle society, and a new society are all expressed in the
book. The old society is allowed to read and possess literature. The middle society has banned
literature in order to prevent anyone from being unhappy and disagreeing with it. As one essay
written by Timothy E. Kelley expresses, the middle society are a people, who willingly give up
their right to be happy in favor of protection from ever being unhappy (Kelley n.p.). The new
society does not appear in the book, but is instead being created.
The old society is represented by the group of outcasts that the main character Montag meets in the
third part of the novel after escaping the city. The outcasts have refused to accept the change that
the middle society as instituted instead choosing to leave their homes as they were unable to safely
remain there. The group is welcoming to Montag and even appear to be expecting him. The

Essay on Marxism Applied to the Modern State
Elitism, Marxism, and pluralism are all political theories that can be used to understand how the
modern state as we understand a live in it today functions. All three theories highlight the
importance of different things and stress successes or failures of the state to be attributed to
different functions or aspects of state operations. Although it is important to understand how
different aspects of each perspectives can help understand how the modern state functions, it is
imperative to identify most strongly with one theory in order to fully understand the modern state.
Elitism speaks about an individual or group of powerful elites that govern the state, hold the power

The decision in this case comes down to the distribution of power, and how that distribution of
power affects the Canadian society.
Elitism is that believe that certain people or members of certain classes or groups deserve
favoured treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority as an intellect, social status or
financial resources. C. Wright Mills explains that the power elite is composed of men whose
positions enable them to transcend the ordinary environments of ordinary men and women;
they are in positions to make decisions having major consequences. This is to mean that some
people innately have more power of persuasion then others, the actions of a small elite group are
of more importance, and have a greater affect then those of people not deemed elite. There are
several different categories of elites that have an impact on the governance of the modern state,
wealth, tradition, and authority. People from all categories have a large impact on society, and
are involved in the creation of organized governing systems. In Canada it can be seen that there
are certain individuals that have come to their position because of their social status, arguably,
Justin Trudeau is one of them. He being a grade school teacher is not the natural pick as a
candidate in upcoming national elections, yet, because of the legacy of his father, he becomes, for
many, and easy pick. This is a prime example of elitism in Canada. This however is the

Comparing The Lewinsky Scandal In The Human Stain By...
Near the beginning of the novel, The Human Stain by Philip Roth, the Lewinsky Scandal is
introduced and discussed in great detail. The narrator indicates his feelings towards the forty
second president of The United States, Bill Clinton, and his affair with a White House employee.
This woman, named Monica Lewinsky, was twenty two years old when the political scandal was
made public, while President Clinton was forty nine years old. The Human Stain is set in 1998,
which is the same year that the scandal became known to the public and President Bill Clintonwas
impeached. However, the author also introduces the Lewinsky Scandal because an equally
astonishing affair has been revealed in a small, quiet New England town. The author essentially
compares the two affairs in order to show how significant the affair between the two characters
from the novel, Coleman Silk and Faunia Farley, actually is. I also think that the... Show more

During her visit with Prince, Faunia questions Prince s caretaker regarding the newspaper
clippings about the crow. The young girl responded by saying that Prince had torn down the
articles that were posted on the wall because He didn t want anybody to know his background!
(Roth 240). I found this to be particularly interesting because both Faunia and Coleman are guilty
of hiding or lying about aspects in their lives. Faunia tells everyone that she is illiterate, when she

Cause And Effect On Gun Crime
Next, the comparison of countries and cities that have reduced legal gun ownership with those
that had an increase in legal gun ownership will show how crime was affected. In 1998, the
United Kingdom put the Firearms Act in place as an answer to a shooting spree at a primary
school in Dunblane, Scotland. The act banned all private citizens from owning handguns.
According to Joyce Lee Malcolm, a law professor at George Mason University, violent crime
increased after the law was instated (Domenech 28). Whereas, in the United States, an increase
in legal gun ownership has seen a decrease in overall crime rate. Based off of a report from the
U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2013, 200 million guns were legally owned in the nation in
1994 compared to the 300 million legally owned guns in 2013 yet there were 1.3 million violent
crimes involving п¬Ѓrearms in 1994 compared to the estimate of 350,000 violent crimes involving
п¬Ѓrearms in 2011 (Domench 28). In short, the data shows that gun prohibiting policies do not
always lead to a decrease in violent crime. On the contrary they can correlate to an increase in crime.
Although, some in the anti gun group will reason that because America has one of the highest gun
crime rates in the world while Europe s gun crime is relatively low, American society should not
allow citizens to own guns. This may be true of course; however stricter gun ownership laws and
crime increase is not conclusive. As Mauser states in Would Banning Firearms

There are many reasons why these two are considered as the economical justifiable terms but
some of the points are as follows : Tax considerations as mentioned above it is very important
aspect when merger happens because with it the capital structure of the organizations. For instance
let us assume that there are two companies, company A and company B. They are deciding the
merge. Here company A is very high turnover and also the profit is outstanding thus the tax
obligations is very high and the company B runs in the debt. Thus if these companies unite the tax
liability of Company A will reduce and thus money can be reduced for going out. Even in future
the tax liability will be less then it is in existing situation. Synergy This is also referring to the
stakeholders and merging companies. The origin of the synergy can be done by many reasons they
are a) financial economies, b) two separate management strength, c) operating economies d) by the
union of two companies the market power will increase and also the competition will decrease.
Thus synergy and tax considerations are main and justifiable in this situation. Hostile merger As the
name indicates the target company is been hostile. Here the acquiring company pressures the target

The Effects Of Hearing Loss On A Child s Life
Hearing loss can have one of the biggest impacts on a child s life. Hearing is an essential tool
used to learn language; without the ability to hear, a child is missing out on key aspects that will
help them learn language. This is why it is crucial that hearing loss is detected early on, because
the earlier it is treated, the more likely the child is to develop listening and spoken language
skills appropriate for their age. Children that are born deaf are already at a disadvantage as the
typical child is born with around 20 weeks of listening experience already. It is important that we
are proactive in identifying children s hearingloss early, while their brain s neuroplasticity is still
the greatest. Essentially, children are in a race... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essay 2 Hearing aids are small devices that have made a huge impact on the hearing impaired.
There are four main parts that make up a hearing aid. First, there is the microphone; the
microphone changes acoustic signals into electric signals. An omnidirectional microphone picks
up noise coming from all directions, where as a directional microphone focuses on sound coming
from a certain direction in order to improve the signal to noise ratio. The next main part is the
amplifier. The amplifier increases the power of the converted signal where the receiver then
converts the electric signals back to acoustic signals and sends it through the ear mold into the ear.
The last part of the hearing aid is the battery. The battery is likely the most important part, as
without the battery, the hearing aid would just act as a really large ear plug. Hearing aids are an
important piece of technology as they help individuals with a hearing loss receive auditory input
they might not otherwise hear. The technology inside a hearing aid is capable of isolating certain
sounds and amplifying them so that an individual with a hearing loss that prevents them from
hearing those sounds is now more likely to hear them. This is very important for children. Children
with hearing loss may be able to

prodigious. He was admired by so many people and his talent was so extraordinary that he was
the first artist ever to get his biography published while being alive, something that is impressive.

This is a major difference we have to consider because he belonged to the Baroque style whereas
Michelangelo belonged to the Renaissance. Michelangelo David has many major differences to
the prior designs by both Donatello and Verrocchio, they were the firsts to create a statue about
the story of David and Goliath. In both Donatello and Verrocchio s David, David is considerably
younger, compared to Michelangelo s. A major difference between Donatello and Verrocchio s
David vs. Michelangelo and Bernini s is that on the latter there is no head of Goliath in their
feet. Due to the time which latter artists belonged to, that wasn t a common. It is also important
to consider that Michelangelo s David is very unrealistic. Due to the fact that he was going to be
placed outside in a plaza, the design was made to be looked at from the bottom to the top. The
statue has a very large head and particularly big hands in comparison to an actual person s. It was
very uncommon for Michelangelo to do this. Bernini s David on the other hand is life sized,
meaning it doesn t share Michelangelo s features of exaggerated body parts. Michelangelo s
David is in contrapposto, very common during the Renaissance, where his head is to the left in
contrast of his arms. Bernini s is supposed to represent movement, is positioned in a way that when

Causes And Effects Of The Green Revolution
When people discuss the Green Revolution they are talking about the quick adoption of new
technologies and the introduction of new scientifically bred crop varieties. The Green
Revolution took place due to inadequate amounts of food, depleted land, and economic poverty.
Many changes occurred as a result, some being positive and some being negative. A positive
effect of the Green Revolution was an increased amount of food being available for the
population. However, the reduced availability of nutritious crops, water shortages, and increased
tensions and conflicts deterred some gains of the movement. Because of this, the Green
Revolution was more harmful than helpful. There were many major issues around the world that
brought around the start of the Green Revolution. One major cause was the inadequate amount
of food in relation to the population. In Doc. 1, a graph is provided that compares the wheat
yielded in Mexico and India from 1950 2010. From 1950 1970, the graph shows that Mexico s
crops yielded low amounts of wheat. For India, the graph shows that the crops yielded low
amounts of wheat from 1965 1985 which was after the Green Revolution began. The purpose of
this graph was to provide the statistics on wheat yielded and how it changed over the decades. The
intended audience of this graph was the scientists who wanted to see the progression before and
after the revolution. This graph is significant to the topic because it shows that the low amount of

Free-Will Vs Predestination
In order to answer the question, How do we reconcile our free will with the sovereignty and
determination of God? successfully, we must first define the terms free will and predestination. In
reference to the subject of salvation, free will means man s ability to choose the way to salvation
or not. Basically, it is man s ability to choose Godwithout God s help. On the other hand,
predestinationrefers to the fact that God has chosen before the foundation of the world those
whom He wishes to save and those whom He wishes to condemn. In other words, man is chosen
to be saved by God, not for anything that he does, but simply because the Lord has chosen him for
His good pleasure. Although it may seem simple at first, this question of free willversus
predestination is really not that easy to unravel. First, free will must be further defined in the
context of pre Fall, unregenerate, regenerate, and glorified man. Before the Fall, Adam and Eve

The answer is simple he cannot choose to go against his nature. If the man is unregenerate, he

While several characters share the blame for the deaths of the star crossed lovers, the guiltiest of
all are Lady and Lord Capulet. Lady and Lord Capulet both have a strong opinion on how they
want their daughter, Juliet s life to turn out. Being with Romeo? Not on their list: Well, girl, thou
weep st not so much for his death/ As that the villain lives which slaughter d him (III.v. 80 81).
This shows that, Lady Capulet has a very strong hatred feeling towards Romeo. She wants
Romeo dead, because he killed her beloved nephew, Tybalt. This also shows that, Juliet will
never get her parents approval on being with Romeo. Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a
Capulet so considering that their love for each other could never succeed. Lady Capulet talks
about how she feels towards Romeo: That is because the traitor or murder lives ( III.v. 870). This

Differences In Present Day South America
The diversity of our world has been created by many explorers throughout history. Who were
curious and eager to find riches for their countries and to colonize them. One of the most famous

The Therapy For The Reduction Of Congestion
Aquapheresis, or ultrafiltration (UF), is a nonpharmacological therapy for the reduction of
congestion in ADHF (Albert, 2012). UF is described as the mechanical removal of fluid from the
vasculature. Ultrafiltration during dialysis has been performed for many years. The procedure
for the treatment of ADHF became more feasible and relevant when a portable, venovenous
system which could be used at the bedside was developed (Albert, 2012). The ultrafiltration
device removes blood from and returns it to the venous circulation using dual access points with
large venous catheters and an extracorporeal blood pump (Albert, 2012, p. 26). UF is carried out
by the extraction of blood from the patient via a peripheral or central catheter into a... Show more

A good blood flow is essential for UF treatment; therefore, a central line is usually needed. A
continuous heparin infusion titrated to a nomogram is necessary in order to prevent clotting of the
UF filter. The patient must be monitored for hypotension and hypovolemia; therefore, frequent vital
signs and accurate urinary output measurement is essential (Wick Bakhai, 2012). The most
commonly reported adverse events associated with UF are clotting of the filter, transient
hypotension, and pain or infection at the catheter site. There is some evidence that the risk of
adverse events is higher when the fluid removal rate is too high. Selection of candidates for UF is
controversial at present, and a clinical selection tool would be beneficial (Wick Bakhai, 2012).

Art Museum And Its Effects On Sexual History
Attending the world s largest erotic art museum has encouraged me to view sexuality with a more
opened minded perception. Sexuality is very diverse for instance, in the way sexual acts are
performed and carried out. Historically, it seems that individuals are biologically and genetically
programmed to seek out sexual behaviors with others. Either for the means of reproduction or their
own personal pleasure, but one thing is very evident sex is pleasurable and enjoyable for most.
However, cultural restraints have had the biggest effect on sexual history and throughout the
museum that is a fundamental element of human sexualitythat is apparent in the many paintings and
sculptures. The entire collection properly displays sexuality through the race, culture, religion,
political affiliations, and historical time. It was exhilarating to observe many artist viewpoints of
sexual behavior. For instance, in the lithograph, titled Garden of Earthly Delights , by Hieronymous
Bosch, in 1500 A.D. the portrait portrayed elements of the earth entwined with sexuality. A
fascinating aspect is that humans and animals are sexual creatures, and the earth represents the land
and the basis for which all sexual behaviors are carried on. It is also interesting that the piece not
only represents behaviors occurring at day, but also at night, and the elements within the picture
such as the colors utilized are very representative of the artist perception within the cultural norms
of that time.

African American Music Culture
African American Music Culture Jakiella James African American gospel music is a major
influence in nearly all genres of modern popular music, from rhythm n blues to jazz, from soul to
rock n roll. The musical genre is a unique expression of the black experience in America? The
emotionally charged, wailing vocals and syncopated rhythms give the music a distinctive style. The
singing is accompanied not only by instrumentals, but often also by hand clapping, foot stomping
and shouting. Gospel music is rooted in slave spirituals and protestant hymns. During the late
1800s, the music spread in popularity among white Christians through the traveling revivals led by

As in traditional African cultures and as the ancestors that endured slavery had done, African
Americans used music to communicate, synchronize, summon courage and assuage pain and
adversity. That uniquely African style of singing with emotion, power and rhythm was evident
through the field hollerers, work songs, spirituals, gospels and blues. Then the rhythm and blues
artists and the soul artists provided a rich resource for the succeeding style of music called funk .
And these artists drove it home to an ever widening audience. This was also the time when other
artists were delivering songs with philosophical and social messages. The emphasis of this paper
will be on the music called funk and its impact on the American culture. Students will be engaged
in actively listening to and discussing a variety of artists to evaluate their effect on the music s

Methodology: All participants had underwent the care procedure. Attempts had been made to
institute optimal opioid levels (morphine), this was done through the use of a patient controlled
analgesia (PCA) or monitoring of morphine elixir (after 48 hours pain medication was altered to
orally administered pills).
Primary measure (DV): Pain medication levels were adjusted according to patient pain reports, this
making it the primary measure. However VAS was used to assess patients worse pain (during

Using these three articles (or more), you should tell the story of the discovery and developmental
function (including the relevant signaling pathway)
One of your additional papers should concern the discovery of the function of the gene in humans
(i.e. the human mutant phenotype)
Introduction
Achondroplasia is when cartilage during development is not developed into bone, which results in
dwarfism. This condition also characterized by short limbs is initiated by a gain of function
mutation in the FGFR3 gene. This mutation is a point mutation. When this mutation occurs, the
receptor of the FGF does not need the FGF signal to be activated. This causes the chondrocytes to
stop dividing and start differentiating into cartilage prematurely and the bones fail to grow to their
proper length, thus resulting in the short limbs that result from this mutation. (textbook) The
FGFR3 gene encodes for the Fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 protein. Textbook... Show more

FGFR3 through the use of homologous genes of other FGFRs. Regions such as the kinase

FGFRs. Paper 1 used a human cDNA library which was hybridized in low stringency. Then under
high stringency, a partial FGFR3 clone was used as a probe. The DNAwas cloned using
dideoxynucleotide chain termination method. A mutation in the FGFR3 gene causes a premature
activation of the STAT pathway which also leads to the premature production of phoshorylated
Stat1 protein. The phophorylated Stat1 protein encodes genes for cell cycle inhibition, these leads
to a decreased number of chondrocytes and hence shorter skeletal

Comparison Of Bauhaus And Minimalism
Throughout history, artists had many different motivations for creating what they did. Some
created pieces with religious significance, while others used art as an emotional outlet. The
twentieth century carried in a period of artists with new ideas and intentions. Two twentieth century
movements, Bauhaus and Minimalism, were not created to be symbolic or emotionally stirring as
much of the art of the past had been. Instead, they were movements focused on functionality and
simplicity. They disregarded the complex, realistic styles that had been popular throughout history
and exchanged it with minimalistic styles. These movements ushered in a style that would
heavily impact artists even today. Minimalism was followed very closely by Op Art and
Conceptual art, both of which disregarded previous beliefs about what art was and its purpose. Op
Art showcased illusions created with skillful tricks of line and shape. Conceptual art focused on
idea, giving the concept more power than the actual execution. Despite their obvious visual
differences, these four movements had quite a few similarities, including their disregard for the
methods and mindset of classical art as well as their extreme simplicities. All of these movements
have heavily influenced today s modern artand built upon one another over time. The Bauhauswas
originally a school founded by Walter Gropius, a German architect who focused on simplicity. The
school was located in Germany and taught on a very specific style

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Western Way Of War
The direct annihilation of the enemy s forces must always be dominant consideration because

The heavy reliance on superior military technology, increase armaments, and understanding the
importance of kinship and culture are three significant drawbacks associated with the Western Way
of War. Due to limited militarytechnological advantages, disrupted revolution of military
armaments and strained the economy. The lack of understanding of the importance of kinship,

The reliance on superior military technology initiated and enhanced change in warfare for the West.

Bill Of Rights 1800 To 1860

power to the federal government, then it is up to the states to do it. Slavery Expansion During
the 1800 1860 period the US experienced a considerable expansion not only of states, but also of
people under slavery from half a million to roughly four million. Interestingly, from 1800 to 1860
slavery shifted from northern states to mostly south ones. The reason for this shift was mainly
economical since cotton lands dominated the economy of the nation. After America gained more
land due to the Mexican War there were conflicts between northerners and southerners on whether
slavery was going to be allowed on these places. The Republican Party of 1850s As tensions
between northerners and southerners aggravated, the idea of keeping slaves out of the west
spearheaded the creation of a new political party in the north the republicans. Republicans promise
was to stop the expansion of slavery to the west, and since by the 1860s the approximate population
that owned slaves was about seven percent, it posed a serious threat to southern slaveholders. Dred

How Audience Driven Performance Art Differ From Other...
How does audience driven performance art differ from other forms of performance art?
Introduction:
In recent years, a form of performance which relies as much on the audience as it does an artist
has be growing increasingly popular among those who appreciate the meta. There is a sort of
curiosity associated with participating in art and the creation of art which is refreshingly different
from what is often found in performance. In this paper, I will focus on the audience and their role in
watching, thinking about, interpreting, and changing performance art, I will not be interested in
the intention of any artists. It is especially important to focus on the interactions and feelings
which are formed from attending and participating in performance (even if that participation is
simply viewing). Thus, the works that I will be examining will have no spoken words because I
feel that words serve to distract from the interpretation of audience in performance that I will put
forth. Therefore, the pieces I have chosen are a kind of Invisible Theatre (a term that I have co
opted from Augusto Boal), this Invisible Theatre serves as the foundation of the analysis I will
offer and is crucial to the discussion of the role and effect of audience (277). Invisible Theatre is
public theatre which involves the public as participants in the action without their knowing it (Boal
xxiii). The three pieces which I will examine, Gala by JГ©rГґme Bel, 4 33 by John Cage, and The

Comparing Ulysses by Lord Tennyson and My Last Duchess by...
Comparing Ulysses by Lord Tennyson and My Last Duchess by Robert
Browning.
Ulysses was written by Lord Tennyson and is a poem about a mythical
Greek character and is a dramatic monologue. Another poem that is a dramatic monologue is My
Last Duchess , by Robert Browning. Both poems are similar, for example they are both structured
similarly, and are both different, one difference being their subject. In this essay
I will compare the two poems, focusing on form, and how language helps to build up subject matter.
Ulysses is a Greek mythical character, and was famous for being a pirate, ransacking villages and
being a warrior. In Greek literature,
Ulysses just seemed to disappear after he got home, and Tennyson decided to ... Show more content

These adjectives create an understanding of what life is like for Ulysses, and this is then
contrasted with words of his past such as roaming ,
ringing and windy . These words create a contrast between the activeness of the past, and the
stillness of the present. This helps the reader imagine what life was like for the character when he
was young. The words associated with the past are positive, whereas the words associated with the
present are negative, helping the reader to understand how Ulysses feels about the present. Line 2o
Gleams that untravelled world whose margin fades shows how Ulysses believes that he still can go
out and do things, as no matter how much he has done, he cannot have done everything. This line is
important, as Gleams leaves the reader with the impression that it is almost tempting to
Ulysses to go and live like he did in the past.
In My Last Duchess , Browning allows the reader to understand the
Duke through what he is saying and what he is doing. The first two lines introduce us to the main
topic of the Duke s speech which is a painting of his last wife. The lines: That s my last Duchess
painted on the wall, looking as if she were alive hint to us that the duchess is not alive anymore, but
Browning has made us unsure, and therefore invites us to read more into the poem. Browning
engages the reader by inviting them to make their own judgements about the Duke, and hinting on

Delaney A Taste Of Honey Essay
Delaney s A Taste of Honey , a kitchen sink play, aimed to explore a variety of social issues
present in 1950s Britain as it followed the lives of protagonist Jo and her mother, Helen. Though
it is the struggles of the working class that prevail, the role and expectations of women are also
widely explored with Delaney frequently reinforcing what appears to be an alternative view of
women, as self reliant and often outspoken (unlike the norm of a passive housewife, for example).
One of the main ways in which Delaney conveys unconventional views of women is through the
character of Jo. From the onset of the play, Jo appears mature forced to be independent in order to
escape from her mother s alcoholism and questionable parenting, evident ... Show more content on

To a 50s audience, the news of teenage pregnancy would be shocking enough but Jo s attitude
towards motherhood would be seen as scandalous (albeit more anticipated by modern audiences).
Jo s lack of maternal instinct is evident when she proclaims how she hate(s) babies , hate(s) milk
and hate(s) motherhood. Delaney s use of powerful verb hate emphasises the strength of Jo s
emotions, and demonstrates how every woman cannot fit into one ideal that society sets out but
when a woman does stray from it, she is only to be faced with backlash. In fact, many Feminist
audiences would argue that Jo is a brilliant example of what a woman should be and is in many
ways better than her irresponsible mother. The juxtaposition between Jo s hatred of babies and
Helen s love for them clearly represents Jo s more realistic, and in many ways mature nature
Helen is clearly obnoxious to her own downfall and parenting abilities, clearly having no idea of
what it takes to raise a child. In this way, the lives of women are presented as trapped no matter
whether or not they follow society s ideal for them, difficulties will be faced as rejecting norms of

(EBP) is to demonstrate the best practice, which has been supported, with a valid and clear
rationale to support it. Whilst using (EBP), this also acknowledges the patient/clients best interest.
(EBP) is the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions
about the care of individual patient/clients (Sackett et al, 1996). In this definition Sackett facilitates
an understanding between (EBP) and decisions we make in everyday practice. This demonstrates
the strong connection between both aspects. Here, Sackett emphasises the importance of decisions
we make as healthcare professionals, and how clearly they should be stated. This shows that
decisions are well thought out, which demonstrates that the use of evidence is used sensibly and
carefully, which means that any care or support we deliver must be evidence based. It shows that
Sackett understands that if care or support we provide has a rationale, then this enables us to
deliver it with a meaningful purpose. In adherence to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)

Analysis Of My Neighbor Totoro
The way Hayao Miyazaki entices his viewers to accept his idea about a new relationship between
nature and humanity was never really talked about or discussed in the past couple of years. The
film My Neighbor Totoro, with all the religious elements and the social impact it had established
the director Miyazaki as one of the best animators not just in Japan, but around the world. What
really gives this film power and fame is not just the mysterious and magical world it has or the cute
character that Miyazaki created, but also the film s way of influencing the audience by conveying
an unfamiliar message about this three layered relationship between nature and humans. Comparing
both Miyazaki s childhood memories and the story depicted helps him connect the audience s
feelings with the characters and making this realistic representation of humanemotion in the film
believable and realistic not only to children, but even to adults. What also makes the world more
familiar to the spectators is the director s use of a common fear from many people s early years
in this unknown and magical world. This common fear is clearly illustrated when the girls meet
Susuwatari, a black spirit in the old empty house that stays in dark spaces and prefers to be left
alone, and only children can see it. The introduction of this spirit is a good transition between the
world of magic and reality. It confirms and insists about the existence of the unknown, and
introduces a world of illusion and

The Dangers of Social Media These days social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and
Instagram have become an essential part of our daily lives in America. It is through media sources
such as these that have enabled communication among people on a global scale along with uniting
people with similar interests and ideas together in a positive manner. According to statistics from

When technological advancement began so did the growth of social networking. Social
networking became easier with the innovation of smartphones, by making social media more
accessible than its initial phases. However, in social networking s earliest stages social media
sites were created with the purpose of helping people stay linked together despite the distance
separating each other. During that time, the only means of using these networking sites were by
having access to a computer. Without the easy accessibility to computers, people back then could
carry on with everyday life tasks without social networking distracting us from the life around us.
Despite social media not fully taking off until the booming of mobile devices, the earliest known
form of social media is believed to have been created in 1995 by way of Classmates.com.
Eventually being followed by networks such as Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest (Social

more common and social media sites began to release their products as mobile applications or
apps (Social Media). In this day and age in which some school age children are gifted mobile

Organizational Culture Influences The Working Environment
Organizational culture influences the working environment for employees and in healthcare
organizations, the culture also effects patient outcomes. AndrГ©, SjГёvold, Rannestad, Ringdal,
(2014) report, researchers have also found that nurses working in contexts with more positive
culture, leadership and evaluation reported more research utilization, staff development and lower
rates of patients and staff adverse events (p. 449). Therefore, it is important that health care
organizations focus on establishing a positive culture. Research shows that positive work
environments have similar characteristics. Nurseleaders are in an optimal position to influence
organizational culture.
Current Workplace Culture
The current workplace culture at Dartmouth Hitchcock, is a positive one this is shown by
biannual staff satisfaction surveys. The most recent staff satisfaction survey reports that staff are
engaged and like their jobs. Nurses report they feel they have a voice and matter to their direct
managers, as they feel comfortable approaching their managers with concerns. Magnet
Recognition is being pursued which further provides an infrastructure of shared decision making

setting, theme, and some individual parts but also including the feel it gives to the audience is

time of 1996, when the movie was filmed. You can tell this version of the film is modern due to
them handling guns, cars, and even swimming pools as their props and background. Even the use

Seamus Heaney Tony Curtis Essay
Seamus Heaney Tony Curtis
On initial reading both the Follower and Strongman are simply about a son s relationship with their
father. Whilst this relationship is a central theme of both poems, the poems also explore a range of
issues including cultural identity, guilt and social class. This essay will attempt to analyse both
poems individually and to also identify areas of conflict and similarity between the poems.
The first two words of Follower by Seamus Heaney are My father which immediately establishes
the poet s emotionally involved relationship with the subject of the poem. In contrast the poet of
Strongman writes in the third person for the majority of the poem and it is only really in the last

Follower , however, is viewed by Seamus Heaney as an expert and this is reinforced by the poets
use of precise technical language set the wing And fit the bright steel pointed sock and Mapping
the furrow exactly . It is implied to the reader that Seamus Heaney, since childhood, has studied his
father s work, which therefore introduces a nostalgic theme to the poem. In contrast whilst there is
still a strong sense of admiration present in Strongman, the focus of the narrator s attentions is
directed more on to the physical strength of his father rather than any skilful aspect to the work.
Tony Curtis uses hyperbole to highlight his father s physical strength Chest like a barrel with a
neck that was like holding onto a tree .
(deracinate / deracination) = rootlessness
The first half of the Follower can be described as memories of the poet s father. The second half
of the poem shifts a gear to become a haunting collection of personal reflections. Whilst
admiration of his father is the dominant emotion in the first half of Follower, it morphs (?) into
guilt in the second half. Guilt is a prevailing theme in Seamus Heaney s work. The poem Digging
is a particularly relevant example of how the poet contrasts the intellectual and middle class nature
of his work as a poet with the working class labours of his family. In Digging, Seamus Heaney
directly compares his work tool of the pen with the

Presentation- Carbon Fibre in Tennis Rackets Script
Intro
Hi, I m going to be talking about Carbon fibre in tennis rackets
What I will cover in the next ten minutes is this.
I will talk you through what Carbon fibre is, its atomic structure, properties which then makes it the
ideal material for modern tennis rackets.
What is Carbon fibre?
Carbon fibre consist of tiny filament about 5 8 mu metres in diameter. Carbon fibre mostly contains
carbon bonds which are bonded together in a crystal Alignment. This means there are strong
covalent bonds between the molecules. Being in its crystal alignment, this gives carbon fibre a high
to strength to volume ratio which basically means it strong for its size.

A Brief Biography of Victorian Author Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe s importance as a main stature in literature is based upon his dark and thought
provoking poems. His difficult life influenced his melancholy writings. Edgar Allan Poe was born
January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. His parent s occupation was traveling actors. At the age
of two, his father abandoned the family leaving young Poe without a father figure. Poe s mother
was poor, which resulted in him having an extremely hard childhood. His mother passed away as he
was growing up and his foster parent John Allan, a wealthy Richmond tobacco merchant, took Poe
into his household. Poe did not have the best relationship with John Allan, in fact he felt very
uncertain about it. When Poe turned seventeen he attended the... Show more content on

The constant answer of nevermore sent the narrator in a frenzy, just as Poe knew Virginia would
no longer come back and he turned to alcohol. At that moment the situation was made worse.
The narrator is hoping when he dies he s going to see Lenore in Heaven as Poe is hoping to see
Virginia. When the raven says nevermore it gives the narrator idea that she possibly did not
make it to Heaven, and he would not see Lenore anymore. Since Virginia was also known as
Lenore, one could believe that Poe is relating to the poem to him seeing Virginia again in
Heaven. Poe s The Raven is the poem that stands out the most because in it, Poe determines it is
some kind of messenger coming to Poe to answer whether he will ever see his love Lenore. Poe
had many great poems and short stories such as The Fall of the House of Usher . This portrayed
a dark and gloomy theme of the Usher family. The narrator approaches the house of Usher on a
dark and quiet day at midnight. The narrator sees the house; it looks to have been absorbed by a
wicked spirit and contaminated atmosphere from the rotting trees and unclear tarns in the area.
Roderick was also the cause of the bad vibe the narrator got when he arrived at the house. He lost

which was incest. In the article Sprits of the Dead, Poe states, The breeze the

  • 2. Methanol Vs Isobutanol Discussion The results do not support the hypothesis as there is no general trend in the volume contraction. However, there is a correlation between the number of carbon chains in the alcohol to the contraction of the mixture. Methanol has had the most volume contraction, while having the least amount of carbons in the molecule (CH3OH) having an average of 1.206ml in volume contraction. Whereas Isobutanol, which has the highest amount of carbon chains (C4H9OH), has had the least amount of average volume contraction of 0.578ml. According to the (Solubility of Things, n.d.), as the amount of carbon atoms increases in the molecule, the alcohol has less solubility in water. This is due to how there are more carbon atoms repulsing the water molecule, therefore having less contact as well as hydrogen bonding with the HO chain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Water molecules contain a unique dipole property, having the hydrogen atoms being slightly more positive than the oxygen atom, which allows for the attraction between OH chains. Although an alcohol molecule contains an OH chain, carbon atoms repulse the water molecules while having a weaker dipole force leading to less volume contraction. Furthermore, due to any disturbances such as heat or kinetic energy as well as the repulsion from the carbon atoms they are constantly transitioning throughout the mixture. This is evident from the solubility of isobutanol and water. As there is a high amount of repulsion between water and alcohol molecules, the alcohol floats, although there is minute change in volume (refer to results). This separation between liquids decreases the amount of volume contraction, as they are more segregated as shown in graph 1. This solubility of isobutanol was expressed in (Solubility of Things, n.d.), having only 0.11% solubility in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mandate Of Heaven Analysis Throughout pre unification China, the Mandate of Heaven was used as a justification in the acquisition and eradication of dynasties. The Mandate of Heaven, the idea that a ruler reigned only with the blessing of the heavens, was seen as a way to legitimize a dynasty and its ruler. Although it may seem as if a heavenly mandate gives a rulerabsolute power, this is actually not the case. Instead, Mencius, a philosopher who emphasizes benevolent governance, asserts that a ruler can both acquire and lose the heavenly mandate based on his behavior and the treatment of his subjects. If a ruler is not equitable, in other words, the Mandate of Heavencan be withdrawn and bestowed upon a more qualified ruler. Thus, although the mandate sounds... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, the heavens bestow the mandate upon the ruler, but the people are a factor in whether the mandate stays with the ruler or not. Hence, Mencius emphasizes the importance of just rule in order to please the people and keep the Mandate of Heaven. Mencius once again underscores the people s role in the heavenly mandate and declares their right to either abide by or revolt against a ruler. Mencius claims that rulers only possessed the Heavenly Mandate to rule so long as they retained the hearts of the people . . . For Mencius, the human heart was endowed with the ability to judge between right and wrong and constituted a bridge linking man with Heaven (Glanville 331). Mencius s belief in the ability of the heart to determine right or wrong gives the common people authority and power to identify whether a ruler is worthy of the mandate and the favor of the heavens. Consequently, it is imperative that the ruler retains the people s support as negative sentiments can lead to dissent and organized revolt amongst the people. This emphasis on the intimate and powerful link between the people and the heavens is translated in Mencius s concept of the ultimate supremacy of the people. Mencius declares that The people are of supreme importance; the altars to the gods of earth and grain come next; last comes the ruler (Glanville 332). Mencius prioritizes the ... Like most college kids, you are strapped for cash, so you begin to seek a part time job. You see an ad for a psychology study that pays $15 per day posted in the local newspaper, and decide to submit an application. Little do you know at the time, that the study you are applying for will become known worldwide and create such an impact that it remains relevant over 44 years later. This infamous study is known today as the Stanford Prison Experiment. The experiment was led by psychology professor Dr. Philip Zimbardo along with his team of researchers in the basement of the psychology building at Stanford University. Today, I am going to speak about why the experiment was conducted, what occurred during the experiment, and the ethical implications that resulted because of this notorious study. II. Why the Experiment Was Conducted: I will begin by explaining why the Stanford Prison Experiment was conducted. Dr. Philip Zimbardo and his research team sought to examine the effect that social institutions and certain situations have on an individual s behavior. According to the American Psychological Association, a situation centered approach to studying human behavior, focuses on factors external to the person (American Psychological Association). More specifically, Zimbardo wanted to study how quickly an individual would conform to the role of prisoner or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everyone has moments in their lives where they might just go crazy. Mass hysteria is a condition affecting a group of persons, characterized by excitement or anxiety, irrational behavior or beliefs, or inexplicable symptoms of illness (Dictionary.com). There have been multiple instances where large amounts of people have identical symptoms that alienate them from others in society. Many factors play into the incline of mass hysteriain students over others: similar social problems, challenges, or traumatic events. Everyone deals with stress at some point in their life, and students especially are burdened with many different forms of it. Earlier this year, in the Okongo territory of Ohangwena, Namibia, the Oshisho Combined School experienced its first outbreak of unnatural behavior. Basically, a bunch of girls at the school were acting and doing very abnormal things and no one knew what was going on. According to the African News Service, the students exhibited strange behaviour such as speaking in what sounded like a strange language. There were a lot of rumors swirling around that coerced people into thinking that the bizarre behavior, from mostly girls, was related to that of witchcraft. They diagnosed the girls with the medical condition called Mass Hysteria (African news service 2017). This quote, and the details succeeding it, supports the idea that ... The play is set in Messina, deep in the heart of Italy and is based in Elizabethan times. The lovers are namely; Claudio and Hero, Bennedick and Beatrice. Claudio is a noble Florentine count from Florence. Bennedick is a war hero from Padua. Both are honourable war heroes fighting for Don Pedro the prince of Aragon. Beatrice is the niece of Leonato the Governor of Messina. At the beginning of the play Don Pedro and his valiant fighters return from the wars to Messina. However beneath all this fancy language we can derive that Bennedick was painted all over Beatrice s thoughts and she cannot resist asking about his well being. When the messenger states he knows none of that name, Hero her cousin says My cousin means Signor Bennedick of Padua this clearly shows that not only is Bennedick and Beatrice s thoughts he is also a subject of conversation and discussion between Beatrice and Hero. The way Beatrice speaks seemingly spitefully about Bennedick shows us she is perhaps interested in Bennedick and trying not to arouse the suspicion of the messenger and her uncle. By adding sarcastic comments and insults where Bennedick name appears shows us she is trying hard not to bring out her real feelings for him, the name Signor Mountanto is one of the names Beatrice has devised to insult Bennedick however the fact that the name is so complex in meaning and the inside joke so well thought out shows us she has really thought about this insult and it has not an insult off the top of her head. Beatrice is more devious and careful about relationships than Claudio who seems rather desperate to get with Hero and throw himself headfirst into a relationship that he perhaps knows nothing about. This suggests perhaps she has more experience in love and relationships and has also experienced disappointment and is afraid of it. • 9. Resistance To Change In Fahrenheit 451 The Resistance to Change in Fahrenheit 451 In the novel Fahrenheit 451, multiple abstract and concrete ideas are represented. Those ideas include the use of the outsiders to represent the old society, the use of the mechanical hound to represent the resistance to change, and the use of the atomic bomb to symbolize a new reality. However, these specific examples of representation within the novel are highlighted due to the fact that they together compose an allegory. Within the novel, three main societies are expressed through the representation of various groups or characters. An old society, a middle society, and a new society are all expressed in the book. The old society is allowed to read and possess literature. The middle society has banned literature in order to prevent anyone from being unhappy and disagreeing with it. As one essay written by Timothy E. Kelley expresses, the middle society are a people, who willingly give up their right to be happy in favor of protection from ever being unhappy (Kelley n.p.). The new society does not appear in the book, but is instead being created. The old society is represented by the group of outcasts that the main character Montag meets in the third part of the novel after escaping the city. The outcasts have refused to accept the change that the middle society as instituted instead choosing to leave their homes as they were unable to safely remain there. Elitism is that believe that certain people or members of certain classes or groups deserve favoured treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority as an intellect, social status or financial resources. C. Wright Mills explains that the power elite is composed of men whose positions enable them to transcend the ordinary environments of ordinary men and women; they are in positions to make decisions having major consequences. This is to mean that some people innately have more power of persuasion then others, the actions of a small elite group are of more importance, and have a greater affect then those of people not deemed elite. There are several different categories of elites that have an impact on the governance of the modern state, wealth, tradition, and authority. People from all categories have a large impact on society, and are involved in the creation of organized governing systems. In Canada it can be seen that there are certain individuals that have come to their position because of their social status, arguably, Justin Trudeau is one of them. The narrator indicates his feelings towards the forty second president of The United States, Bill Clinton, and his affair with a White House employee. This woman, named Monica Lewinsky, was twenty two years old when the political scandal was made public, while President Clinton was forty nine years old. • 13. Cause And Effect On Gun Crime Next, the comparison of countries and cities that have reduced legal gun ownership with those that had an increase in legal gun ownership will show how crime was affected. In 1998, the United Kingdom put the Firearms Act in place as an answer to a shooting spree at a primary school in Dunblane, Scotland. The act banned all private citizens from owning handguns. According to Joyce Lee Malcolm, a law professor at George Mason University, violent crime increased after the law was instated (Domenech 28). Whereas, in the United States, an increase in legal gun ownership has seen a decrease in overall crime rate. Based off of a report from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2013, 200 million guns were legally owned in the nation in 1994 compared to the 300 million legally owned guns in 2013 yet there were 1.3 million violent crimes involving п¬Ѓrearms in 1994 compared to the estimate of 350,000 violent crimes involving п¬Ѓrearms in 2011 (Domench 28). Although, some in the anti gun group will reason that because America has one of the highest gun crime rates in the world while Europe s gun crime is relatively low, American society should not allow citizens to own guns. Hearing is an essential tool used to learn language; without the ability to hear, a child is missing out on key aspects that will help them learn language. This is why it is crucial that hearing loss is detected early on, because the earlier it is treated, the more likely the child is to develop listening and spoken language skills appropriate for their age. Children that are born deaf are already at a disadvantage as the typical child is born with around 20 weeks of listening experience already. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essay 2 Hearing aids are small devices that have made a huge impact on the hearing impaired. There are four main parts that make up a hearing aid. First, there is the microphone; the microphone changes acoustic signals into electric signals. An omnidirectional microphone picks up noise coming from all directions, where as a directional microphone focuses on sound coming from a certain direction in order to improve the signal to noise ratio. The next main part is the amplifier. The amplifier increases the power of the converted signal where the receiver then converts the electric signals back to acoustic signals and sends it through the ear mold into the ear. The last part of the hearing aid is the battery. The battery is likely the most important part, as without the battery, the hearing aid would just act as a really large ear plug. Hearing aids are an important piece of technology as they help individuals with a hearing loss receive auditory input they might not otherwise hear. The technology inside a hearing aid is capable of isolating certain sounds and amplifying them so that an individual with a hearing loss that prevents them from hearing those sounds is now more likely to hear them. This is very important for children. Children with hearing loss may be able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Free-Will Vs Predestination In order to answer the question, How do we reconcile our free will with the sovereignty and determination of God? successfully, we must first define the terms free will and predestination. In reference to the subject of salvation, free will means man s ability to choose the way to salvation or not. Basically, it is man s ability to choose Godwithout God s help. On the other hand, predestinationrefers to the fact that God has chosen before the foundation of the world those whom He wishes to save and those whom He wishes to condemn. In other words, man is chosen to be saved by God, not for anything that he does, but simply because the Lord has chosen him for His good pleasure. Although it may seem simple at first, this question of free willversus predestination is really not that easy to unravel. First, free will must be further defined in the context of pre Fall, unregenerate, regenerate, and glorified man. Before the Fall, Adam and Eve were perfect image bearers of God. They had the ability to choose to sin and the ability to choose not to sin. In Latin, this state is best known as posse peccare, posse non peccare. Either for the means of reproduction or their own personal pleasure, but one thing is very evident sex is pleasurable and enjoyable for most. However, cultural restraints have had the biggest effect on sexual history and throughout the museum that is a fundamental element of human sexualitythat is apparent in the many paintings and sculptures. It was exhilarating to observe many artist viewpoints of sexual behavior. For instance, in the lithograph, titled Garden of Earthly Delights , by Hieronymous Bosch, in 1500 A.D. the portrait portrayed elements of the earth entwined with sexuality. A fascinating aspect is that humans and animals are sexual creatures, and the earth represents the land and the basis for which all sexual behaviors are carried on. This condition also characterized by short limbs is initiated by a gain of function mutation in the FGFR3 gene. This mutation is a point mutation. When this mutation occurs, the receptor of the FGF does not need the FGF signal to be activated. This causes the chondrocytes to stop dividing and start differentiating into cartilage prematurely and the bones fail to grow to their proper length, thus resulting in the short limbs that result from this mutation. • 29. Comparison Of Bauhaus And Minimalism Throughout history, artists had many different motivations for creating what they did. Some created pieces with religious significance, while others used art as an emotional outlet. The twentieth century carried in a period of artists with new ideas and intentions. Two twentieth century movements, Bauhaus and Minimalism, were not created to be symbolic or emotionally stirring as much of the art of the past had been. Instead, they were movements focused on functionality and simplicity. They disregarded the complex, realistic styles that had been popular throughout history and exchanged it with minimalistic styles. These movements ushered in a style that would heavily impact artists even today. Minimalism was followed very closely by Op Art and Conceptual art, both of which disregarded previous beliefs about what art was and its purpose. Op Art showcased illusions created with skillful tricks of line and shape. Conceptual art focused on idea, giving the concept more power than the actual execution. Despite their obvious visual differences, these four movements had quite a few similarities, including their disregard for the methods and mindset of classical art as well as their extreme simplicities. All of these movements have heavily influenced today s modern artand built upon one another over time. The Bauhauswas originally a school founded by Walter Gropius, a German architect who focused on simplicity. The school was located in Germany and taught on a very specific style ... Introduction: In recent years, a form of performance which relies as much on the audience as it does an artist has be growing increasingly popular among those who appreciate the meta. There is a sort of curiosity associated with participating in art and the creation of art which is refreshingly different from what is often found in performance. In this paper, I will focus on the audience and their role in watching, thinking about, interpreting, and changing performance art, I will not be interested in the intention of any artists. It is especially important to focus on the interactions and feelings which are formed from attending and participating in performance (even if that participation is simply viewing). Thus, the works that I will be examining will have no spoken words because I feel that words serve to distract from the interpretation of audience in performance that I will put forth. Therefore, the pieces I have chosen are a kind of Invisible Theatre (a term that I have co opted from Augusto Boal), this Invisible Theatre serves as the foundation of the analysis I will offer and is crucial to the discussion of the role and effect of audience (277). Invisible Theatre is public theatre which involves the public as participants in the action without their knowing it (Boal xxiii). These words create a contrast between the activeness of the past, and the stillness of the present. This helps the reader imagine what life was like for the character when he was young. The words associated with the past are positive, whereas the words associated with the present are negative, helping the reader to understand how Ulysses feels about the present. Line 2o Gleams that untravelled world whose margin fades shows how Ulysses believes that he still can go out and do things, as no matter how much he has done, he cannot have done everything. This line is important, as Gleams leaves the reader with the impression that it is almost tempting to Ulysses to go and live like he did in the past. Delaney s use of powerful verb hate emphasises the strength of Jo s emotions, and demonstrates how every woman cannot fit into one ideal that society sets out but when a woman does stray from it, she is only to be faced with backlash. In fact, many Feminist audiences would argue that Jo is a brilliant example of what a woman should be and is in many ways better than her irresponsible mother. The juxtaposition between Jo s hatred of babies and Helen s love for them clearly represents Jo s more realistic, and in many ways mature nature Helen is clearly obnoxious to her own downfall and parenting abilities, clearly having no idea of what it takes to raise a child. • 52. Seamus Heaney Tony Curtis Essay Seamus Heaney Tony Curtis On initial reading both the Follower and Strongman are simply about a son s relationship with their father. Whilst this relationship is a central theme of both poems, the poems also explore a range of issues including cultural identity, guilt and social class. This essay will attempt to analyse both poems individually and to also identify areas of conflict and similarity between the poems. The first two words of Follower by Seamus Heaney are My father which immediately establishes the poet s emotionally involved relationship with the subject of the poem. In contrast the poet of Strongman writes in the third person for the majority of the poem and it is only really in the last two lines that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The father in Follower , however, is viewed by Seamus Heaney as an expert and this is reinforced by the poets use of precise technical language set the wing And fit the bright steel pointed sock and Mapping the furrow exactly . It is implied to the reader that Seamus Heaney, since childhood, has studied his father s work, which therefore introduces a nostalgic theme to the poem. In contrast whilst there is still a strong sense of admiration present in Strongman, the focus of the narrator s attentions is directed more on to the physical strength of his father rather than any skilful aspect to the work. Tony Curtis uses hyperbole to highlight his father s physical strength Chest like a barrel with a neck that was like holding onto a tree . (deracinate / deracination) = rootlessness The first half of the Follower can be described as memories of the poet s father. The second half of the poem shifts a gear to become a haunting collection of personal reflections. Whilst admiration of his father is the dominant emotion in the first half of Follower, it morphs (?) into guilt in the second half. Guilt is a prevailing theme in Seamus Heaney s work. The poem Digging is a particularly relevant example of how the poet contrasts the intellectual and middle class nature of his work as a poet with the working class labours of his family. In Digging, Seamus Heaney directly compares his work tool of the pen with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the age of two, his father abandoned the family leaving young Poe without a father figure. Poe s mother was poor, which resulted in him having an extremely hard childhood. The constant answer of nevermore sent the narrator in a frenzy, just as Poe knew Virginia would no longer come back and he turned to alcohol. At that moment the situation was made worse. The narrator is hoping when he dies he s going to see Lenore in Heaven as Poe is hoping to see Virginia. When the raven says nevermore it gives the narrator idea that she possibly did not make it to Heaven, and he would not see Lenore anymore. Since Virginia was also known as Lenore, one could believe that Poe is relating to the poem to him seeing Virginia again in Heaven. Poe s The Raven is the poem that stands out the most because in it, Poe determines it is some kind of messenger coming to Poe to answer whether he will ever see his love Lenore. Poe had many great poems and short stories such as The Fall of the House of Usher . This portrayed a dark and gloomy theme of the Usher family. The narrator approaches the house of Usher on a dark and quiet day at midnight. The narrator sees the house; it looks to have been absorbed by a wicked spirit and contaminated atmosphere from the rotting trees and unclear tarns in the area. Roderick was also the cause of the bad vibe the narrator got when he arrived at the house. He lost communication with the outside world and buried his sister alive. Their family had a hidden secret, which was incest. In the article Sprits of the Dead, Poe states, The breeze the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
