Adam and Eve and Temptation Essay
Kyle Dudzinski
Ms. Cecelia
AP English 12
20 December 2010
Temptation Temptation has been around since the conception of our Earth. All civilizations, including
the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, the British, and even modern day individuals, have fallen
victim to temptations that the world offers. John Owen described temptation as a knife, that may either
cut the meat or the throat of a man; it may be his food or his poison, his exercise or destruction. A
temptation is an act that appears enticing to an individual, but is usually coupled with damaging
implications that may lead to feelings of regret and remorse. A person may fall victim to temptation
when he lacks the self control to avoid enticing situations and is ... Show more content on

Temptation is also rabid in most high school settings. Sex, illegal drugs, alcohol, cheating, and
tobacco are all temptations students are faced with on a daily basis. Teenagers must each make
personal decisions to either refrain from immoral conduct or succumb to the temptations of peer
pressure, usually with the hopes of being accepted. The temptations of potentially destructive
decisions are immense. It takes a strong willed individual to stand up against the majority and hold
true to his values. Not bowing to temptation is a difficult task for any person, but especially for a high
school student who is more worried about his own popularity and appearance and has yet to grow his
moral fibers. The temptations that the youth of our modern culture experience are very appealing, but
their consequences are more damaging than ever before. Temptation surrounds our lives. Daily, we
make decisions to either surrender to it or to persevere against it. It takes courage, bravery, and
discipline to withstand temptation. William Butler Yeats wrote that Every conquering temptation
represents a new found moral energy. Every trial endured and weathered in the right spirit makes a
soul nobler and stronger than it was before. When an individual overcomes the temptation of
participating in an immoral act, he grows as a person and becomes morally stronger. With the
knowledge of the results of a bad decision, a person can learn

Controversy On Light
Light being a particle or wave has provoked controversy amongst many scientists across the world.
Back then some scientist argued that light was a particle and not a wave. Others, however, believed
that light was a wave and thought it had no properties of a particle. Einstein decided to take matters
into his own hands and find out what light was with the help of Max Planck.
Light, to begin with, is electromagnetic radiation that is extremely wide or small but enough for it to
be visible for us to see. There are various types of color with different wavelengths that affect us in
different ways. For example, the light from the Sun warms up the Earth and keeps us from freezing to
death. Other types of Light like ultraviolet with shorter wavelength ... Show more content on

Isaac Newton observed that light traveled in a direct line which led him to think that light was made
up little particles. Although when you shine two lights opposite from each other they did not collide
and scatter everywhere. He saw that they went through each other which made him confused. He also
saw that when the light hit the water it bent, (This bending of a ray of light when it passes from one
substance into another substance is called refraction). Even though he didn t completely understand
light he still made extraordinary discovers like the one I listed above.
Lasers are (emission of electromagnetic radiation) and (high speed electrons are forced to move in a
circular path by a magnetic field). Light is made up of photos compacted with energy. The short the
wave the greater the energy. Because green light has a shorter wavelength it can active some dyes
because of it s intensity. A strong laser has the power to heat things up because it s the intense power.
This goes to show how light can be absorbed and generate

Shinto Religion Essay
Shinto is the oldest religion in Japan. In this religion, members worship deceased family and various
gods that represent nature. Shinto differs from most of the other major religions since it does not have
founder, prophets, nor does it have a major text which outlines its principal beliefs. Shinto s longevity
is due to its flexibility to adapt and become interwoven with the Japanese culture. In fact, much of
what the Japanese people highly value in a person s character comes from Shinto s key concepts.
Some of the Shinto s key concepts are the importance of purity, physical well being, harmony,
procreation and fertility, family and ancestral solidarity, subordination of the individual to the group,
and the reverence of nature. They also believe that all things have the potential for both good and bad,
and that the soul of the deceased can have a huge influence on the living. As stated before, Shinto does

the Japanese encountered regularly. Unlike other religions, the sun and supreme deity is a female and

are two gods, Izanami and Izanagi, that created the island of Japan. Although Amaterasu is the
supreme being, she was born from the left eye of Izanagi. Susanoo was born for the nose of Izanagi. It

artisans. The Seven Lucky Gods, also called Shichifukujin, are also very popular. Amongst them,

Analyzing Two Theories of Business Power
Two Theories of Business Power Introduction The Dominance and the Pluralist Theories led to the
development of socialism and liberalism respectively. The two theories had notable differences,
almost contrasting one another. For us to analyze and contrast the two theories, it is notable to
understand the fundamental perceptions of Dominance and the Pluralism. Connolly and Connolly
(2010) argue that we can define the dominance theory as the theory of Marxist, advanced by Karl
Max. This theory has been clearly outlined in the manifesto of the communist. The theory of
dominance argues that social divisions based on class result in ruling class community, who control all
the production means. Marxism notes that if the proletariat is abused, it favors the interests of the
bourgeoisie. This is commonly referred to as the elite theory drawn from Marxist because it suggests a
disproportionate control over a privileged minority. Nevertheless, in this case, the control appears to
be over the state mechanisms. Therefore, we can believe that the elites only have the ability to
influence but not to control the production means. Perhaps, this could be an underlying reason why
advocates of this theory are more contented with its continued application compared to other
colleagues of Marxist (Tang, 2008). Pluralism is fundamentally a theory favoring equal distribution of
power amongst people instead of one individual holding all the power. This theory supports having

International Market and Trade Research in Ireland
International market and trade research is beyond the capabilities and needs of the small Irish exporter.
Discuss.
International Marketing and Trade Research follows the very same path as domestic research, only
that there are a few more problems that can arise when entering the international market. Customers in
international markets may have very different customs, cultures, and expectations from the same
company than those in their own mother country. In this case, secondary information must be
collected from each separate country and then combined, or compared. This is a time consuming
process and can be confusing but is it beyond the capabilities of the small Irish exporter?

Geographic distance would be a definite problem for the small Irish exporter being that Ireland is an
island on the edge of Europe so physical remoteness is an issue for export etc. But on the upscale we
are easily accessible by sea. Our small size could pose a problem on the international market for the
small exporter. The difference in climate that can occur in Ireland depending on the product could
raise some issues also. Bearing these factors in mind, conducting a feasibility study before considering
a prospective market would be an excellent idea.
Economic distance especially now more so than ever with the EU bailout of Ireland, financial
resources are at an all time low and many markets might be dubious about trading with an Irish
exporter. There could be difference in costs and quality of natural resources, financial resources,
human resources, infrastructure, intermediate inputs or information or knowledge. However our
natural and human resource standards remain very high aswell as a highly educated workforce so the
exporter should be capable of breaking into some foreign markets based on Ireland s continued good
reputation internationally.
It really would depend exactly on what specific type of industry the small Irish firm was dealing in.

Integrating An Effective Safe And Secure Learning Environment
Integrating an effective safe and secure learning environment is very imperative when ensuring

Descriptive Essay About Homeless People
Over 60 million tourists visit New York each year from all across the world. Last summer, my family
and I were lucky enough to be some of those tourists. The trip changed my view on a lot of different
things, ranging all the way from how people act on the Subways, to the diversity of the city itself. It
was such a unique learning experience for me, and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to travel
somewhere that was so drastically different from what I am used to.
In 2017, there were 62,351 homeless people living in New York. I had seen homeless people down by
the Subway tracks in different movies, but seeing it in person made me realize how real of a problem
it was. When we got off at our Subway station, there were homeless people sitting on the stairs,
between Subway tracks, on benches, and anywhere else they could find a spot. Some were covered in
newspapers with ratted blankets around them, some looked like they hadn t showered in weeks, and
others looked like they had never owned a toothbrush in their life. Most of them were asking for
change and shaking some coins in a cup at us as we walked by. We hadn t been off the Subway for
more than 10 minutes, and I had already seen at least three homeless people. Little did I know, that
was just the beginning.
As we walked up the stairs and out onto the streets of New York City, I was amazed by how many
homeless people I saw. Outside, some of them had dogs with them that looked almost as beat up as
they did. Most of them had signs in their laps that read things like HOMELESS NEED FOOD AND
MONEY or WILL WORK FOR MONEY. Later on in the day, we went to Shake Shack (a burger and
shake place) for lunch. When we sat down to eat, we saw that there was a homeless man walking
around to different tables asking people if they could give him some money. One guy told the man to
go get a job and do something with his life. The homeless man wasn t very happy with this response
and began marching around their table cursing at them. I realize that there could have been something
mentally wrong with this man, however, it made me realize how poorly some people treat the
homeless. A simple no or no thank you would have been a fine response, especially when you don t

The Second Sutta Of The Digha Nikaya
The second sutta of the Digha Nikaya is called the Samannaphala Sutta. Contrary to appearances, the
immediate source of this title is not samana, a wanderer, but rather samañña, which refers to the state
of being a monastic (lit. conformity, generality ). According to the Access to Insight website, it also
refers to an instrument tuned on pitch (from sama, even, + anna, reciprocally ), the subject of a famous
metaphor of the Buddha. The root sam refers to calmness, tranquility, mental quiet, whereas anna also
has the meaning of knowledge, especially the knowledge of an arhant. In Sanskrit, sama has the

When the king came near to the grove, it was dark and deathly quiet, and the king suspected a trap, but
Jivaka assured him that it was safe. In the distance, he was able to see torches inside a round pavilion,
so he made his way there on foot, to find the Buddha sitting inside against the middle column of the
pavilion, with many monastics sitting, facing him, all dressed in simple ochre stained robes. The king
had to ask Jovaka which monastic was the Buddha, although the Buddha was sitting

The Development Of Telescope
Throughout human history, civilization was built and developed upon a sense of mystery. In the
ancient time, people believed the existence of eternal God, who lived beyond people s vision in the
vastness of dark sky, and developed their own routine upon that. Observed this mysterious sky for
centuries, Greek astronomer Ptolemy finally developed a geocentric model in the Second Century A.D
in his book Almagest. In his work, Ptolemy made all of his assumptions were purely based on
observations. In 1543, a Polish astronomer Nicholaus Copernicus polished a heliocentric model,
which again was derived on visual evidences. These revolutionary discoveries took years to complete.
As a comparison, modern astronomical science, which explains the origin of the universe and life
cycle of stars, was established and rapidly developed in merely four hundred years: people now
understood so much about the universe. These astonishing developments were the result of
observational technology advancement: everything people know about this universe is from
observation. From simple optical telescopes to radio telescopes and high energy telescopes, people
constantly improve observational technologies to make more discoveries. This scientific development
reached its climax as people launched a revolutionary telescope above the atmosphere for a better
quality of image. These revolutionary changes in observational technology help this universe be more
comprehensive to human. The first telescope like

Jeffrey Dahmer Motives
In the beginning, that was my most profound admission, that there was something missing in Jeff, the
part that should have cried out, Stop! Lionel Dahmer (Jeffrey s father) (qtd. in LaBrode). Jeffrey
Dahmer, the son of Lionel Dahmer, was a serial killer who lured his unsuspecting victims to his house,
savagely killed them, and then cannibalized their corpses. He is only one of the many serial killers
who have terrorized our world. They are an example of the evil lurking in humanity. These murderers
commit acts so horrendous that it s hard to imagine how anyone could be capable of these acts. Many
who study these people, and the murders they commit, wonder how that behavior is established within
them. There are two major answers that emerge: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

see that many serial killers suffer from psychopathy because many serial killer s personalities
incorporate these traits. The fact that they are psychopaths largely explains why they can kill without

I really like the idea of being able to write a story without having to use description. I feel like in life,

Strand At Lough Beg And Mametz Wood
Poets are the record keepers and moral consciences of their times. In response to this view, explore
connections between the ways in which Heaney and Sheers write about memories.
As poets are known to be record keepers memories are a key theme that poets often write about due to
it being a theme with such a wide range. Heaney and Sheers have both written poems about memories.
The two poems that i have chosen to focus on for this essay are Mametz Wood by Owen Sheers and
The Strand at Lough Beg by Seamus Heaney. Both of these poems talk about the memories of death
so they will no doubt share the same themes and ideas throughout. In the poem Mametz Wood by
Owen Sheers we can see that the title of the poem is the name of a place. Mametz Wood is known as
the place where the Battle of the Somme took place in July 1916. This gives us the connotation that
the poem will have themes of war and death throughout. The use of the place name makes people see
that this was a real event that took place. The use of the place name also ... Show more content on

These suggest to me again the idea that death and the fear of death slow everything down and heighten
things around you. These are all things that Colum would have been experiencing in that moment, the
terrifying imagery and sound paint us a picture of the fear that would have coursed through his veins
at that moment. However there is a difference between Sheers and Heaney s poems here, as the
soldiers were together and although they were going into something horrific they were set out to do
that and had a team with them. Colum on the other hand was isolated and had no expectations of being
shot at let alone killed. A key link between these two poems is that both Colum and the soldiers were

No Truth in Story telling
Margaret Atwood gives voice to Penelope, one of antiquity s most infamous heroines, so that she can
tell her story at last and set the record straight once and for all (Canongate). The quotation printed at
the back of The Penelopiad gives a concise motivation why Margaret Atwood writes the book:
Atwood uses Penelope s voice to tell the readers how she is wronged in Homer s Odyssey. Although
the narrator Penelope dominates the book, the twelve hanged maids also interpose their own opinion
in prose and rhymes. However, it is not hard for the readers to find out that the two perspectives
contradict one another, the maids voice is often used as a counterpoint to Penelope s, when it comes to
why the maids are hanged. Since The Penelopiad is all about Penelope, then why does Atwood

not only treat the maids with superiority, but also Penelope truly treats and loves the maids as if they
were sisters. Later, according to Penelope, when the suitors come, Penelope assigns the maids to be
her spies by ingratiating themselves with the suitors. When comes the turning point that Penelope
decides to tell the returning, furious Odysseus all about the plan, she is drugged to sleep. It was my

the hanging of the maids. It is as if Penelope herself were a victim in the hanging of the maids, she is
helpless and heartbroken when Odysseus kills her sister like

Introduction
Transit oriented development (TOD) is a mixed use residential or commercial area intended to
maximize access to public transportation. Such neighborhoods often consist of a center with a public
transit station, bounded by high density growth with gradually lower density development spreading
outward from the center. TODs or transit zones are typically located within a radius of one half mile
from a transit station, as this is generally considered a reasonable walking distance for pedestrians.
However, geographic proximity alone does not make development transit oriented. Indeed, many
developments can be said to be transit adjacent (i.e. within close physical proximity to transit) but not

Analysis Of The Versace Advertisements
When one looks at an image from Calvin Klein, Victoria s Secret, or Versace, the first appeal comes
from beautiful models. These individuals are normally jumping, laughing and representing every
idealistic way of life by manifesting the idea of a blind promise. Unfortunately, these images are not
only created with the intent of being manipulative, but also to resemble the present history involving
societal roles. At the moment, Ads are able to capture the political ideologies or the social influences
in order to represent the position of modern times. On the other hand, the Versace brand recently
released a new campaign on Fall clothes bringing to light a different topic. At a quick glance, the
Versace Advertisement depicts the everyday family of four. However, through John Berger s Ways of
Seeing, the picture represents the hegemonic portrayal of male dominance, the suppressive forces of
society on women, and the influence publicity has on the surveyed. Through this lens, one can
understand the social relations and expectations publicity creates for individuals.
According to Berger, men in society signify an omnipotent authority. The hegemonic belief that men
must be masculine and worthy of power has been a cultural view since the beginning of time. In his
essays, Berger explains how God condemned women to be subservient to men, granting them control.
Also the author determines how a man s presence is dependent upon the promise of power which he
embodies (Berger 45). He

The Case Against The Fugitive Slave Law
Since the spoken word, hundreds of philosophers have defined law in different ways. Philosophy
allows people to study the nature of people s beliefs which can differ over time. Not even laws are
exempt from the opinions of philosophers. Seeing law in different ways allows people to come to
different conclusions about legal cases. The Fugitive Slave Law was a controversial law in American
history which allowed slave owners to capture their slaves who have fled north to free states. Once, a
group of emancipators in Boston were tried for helping an escaped slave flee to Canada. These
emancipators challenged the Fugitive Slave Law in United States v Morris. According to the Fugitive
Slave Law, helping an escaped slave is in violation of the law. In this case, the jurors let the
emancipators free for helping a slave escape slavery to Canada. This leads to the question Did the
jurors in Morris do the right thing? Philosophy gives us the tools to analyze the legality of the juror s
actions and answer this question. Natural Law theory, Positivism, Legal Realism, Neo natural law
theory, and Paul Butler s theory of law all provide different outlooks to answering this question.
Despite having differing beliefs about the role of morality and law, these philosophies all conclude
that the jurors in Morris did the right thing. Thomas Aquinas Natural Law theory proves the jurors in
Morris did make the right decision. The Natural Law theory discusses our ability to distinguish

Increasing Population Uncertainty Essay
Increasing Population Uncertainty
Carrying capacity is defined as the number of individuals of a certain species that can be sustained
indefinitely in a particular area. The Earth s capacity to support people is determined both by natural
constraints and by human choices concerning economics, environment, culture (including values and
politics), and demography. Human carrying capacity is more difficult to estimate than some of the
standard demographic indicators, like expectation of life or the total fertility rate, because human
carrying capacity depends on populations and activities around the world. Human carrying capacity is
therefore dynamic and uncertain. Ecologists have often made use of the concept of carrying ... Show

Many environmental, social, and economic problems either stem from or are increased in magnitude
by the overpopulation problem. With an exponentially increasing population, the problems created by
overpopulation grow correspondingly. Population growth is out spacing growth in agricultural
production and it is putting increasing pressure on erodible soils, grazing lands, water, and fuel wood
supplies (Chapman, Peterson, Smith Moran, 2000). To ensure population stability not only in the
increasingly wealthy third world areas, but also in the industrialized areas, countries and individuals
must work together to achieve controlled population growth.
The earth does not contain enough resources to indefinitely sustain the current enormous population
growth. For instance, there only is a limited area of arable land and living space available to us. China,
home to 1.2 billion people or 1/5 the world s population, is an excellent example of the kinds of
problems that arise in an increasingly crowded society. Trying to increase the standard of living of its
people, China has industrialized and the economy has grown (Hanson, 1995). This increase in wealth
has increased the demand for food in China. The demand is so great that China went from exporting 8
million tons of grain in 1992 to becoming a net importer of 16 million tons of grain in 1994 (China
News Digest, 1995). This causes a worldwide grain shortage that raises prices,

Interview With A Research Coordinator Essay
Analysis of an Interview with a Research Coordinator
Summary
This interview aims to help students understand the role of the research coordinator (RC) and what it
is like for that person to bring a large scale research project from conception to completion. The
interview participant has worked as a RC for many years and has a strong background in statistics.
According to the participant, an essential qualification for a RC is a solid understanding of statistical
concepts and analyses, and the ability to build on that knowledge and apply it to statistical computer
programs. This foundational knowledge is needed because a project can involve a significant amount
of analysis and coding from data. The participant s current research project is a large scale project
involving the implementation of public health policy for BC and Ontario. This research is dynamic
and challenging and always evolving, which requires the RC to be flexible and adaptable. For many of
the team members, this project is not a primary job; therefore, it is important for the RC to find the
balance between project deadlines and allowing people to have personal time. Despite being the lead
for this project, the participant shares decision making with a variety of people and government
agencies in both provinces, which brings various levels of bureaucratic challenges, including gaining
access to data. This and other logistical constraints can make analyzing data and producing papers
time consuming.

Grendel As A Hero Essay
The Old English epic Beowulf is the earliest recorded poem in Old English. The story is set in
Scandinavia with the antagonist Grendel. Gendel is a monster and an insensitive character. Grendel
was born into a monster and was cursed his entire life. Although Grendel was strong he wasn t very
brave because he only attacks at night when the guards are asleep. He has many characteristics that a
monster would have. First and foremost, he was raised to be evil, and never had the chance to be good.
Also whenever he would hear joy, he would be filled with anger and hatred. Grendel likes killing
people he doesn t feel any remorse after killing people. An example from the story that shows this is
Snatched up thirty men, smashed them unknowing in their beds and out with their bodies (Genesis,pg
4). Talking about Grendel ties in with our next evil antagonist known as Cain. Cain is the son of Adam
and Eve. He was a farmer who was jealous of his brother who was accepted by God and when Cain
was rejected he decided to kill his brother Abel. Unlike Grendel Cain believed in god he just didn t ...

Like how Grendel displays his envy towards people as Cain did to his brother Abel. Grendel is
described as a distant offspring to Cain. They both are also outcast to society and roam in the
darkness. Both Grendel and Cain were jealous. Grendel was jealous of the people who were
celebrating and being joyful and that jealousy made him kill many innocent people. Cain killed Abel
out of jealousy and was cast away. They both don t feel remorse after killing. An example that showed
that Cain didn t feel any remorse The man who killed his brother cares only for himself. He doesn t
express even the tiniest twinge of remorse, contrition, or repentance( Saxon,pg 42). Another similarity
between Grendel and Cain would be selfishness. They both didn t have concern for others didn t have

The Film Nightcrawler That Was Released In The Year 2014
The film Nightcrawler that was released in the year 2014 used many elements of cinematography to
portray its argument and theme. This film s use of camera angles and different colors helps illuminate
the moral corruption and capitalism in the world of news reporting and media. The camera angles and
color are elements that allow the film to argue this theme. The moral corruption is shown through

The color is often seen during scenes where questionable moral decisions are made. One scene is
where Nina and Louis are meeting at the restaurant. They are discussing their professional and
personal relationship, which is not of great moral character. In this scene, the booth is dark red and the
lighting in the restaurant is various shades of red, as well. The color red often represents the moral
corruption of the characters in their giant ambitious attitudes towards gaining the news story and the
money that is associated with it. Other shots that the color red is seen, is the red lights of the street
lights. This is associated with the moral corruption that Louis and other night crawlers are often
connected with. As they film violent acts, such as shootings and bad car wrecks without sympathy for
the victims they are filming. They do not care about the victims, only about getting the best shot, so
they can sell it to the highest bidder. The color red can also be associated the bloody nature of the
scenes that are being filmed by the night crawlers. In addition, the red color can represent the passion
exhibited by Louis Bloom is his conquest in building his own business ambitions and the violence
associated with those ambitions. This can be seen, as even Louis new car that he gets after becoming
more successful in his business is red. Thus the color red is associated with the moral corruption and

Classical And Operant Conditioning
The behavioral model is the study of measurable, observable behavior and the way in which the
environment determines behavior. Yet, initially, most behaviorists adopted a rather extreme view that
it was impossible to scientifically measure mental process, thereby leaving observable behavior as a
psychologists only unit of analysis (Lehmiler, 2014, p. 11). The behavioral approach was a radical
departure from the dominant psychoanalytic approach leaning toward the side of nurture and giving
most of the attention to experience. The behavioral model aims to ameliorate the behavioral problems
or seek to alter behavior, this model increase control of the individual over themselves or their
environment. Corey (2016), stated the behavioral theory differed for other therapeutic approaches in
its application of principles of classical and operant conditioning (p. 233).
The classical conditioning refers to to what happens prior to learning that creates a response through
pairing (Corey, 2016, p. 235). A key figure in this learning theory is Pavlov, who conducted the
famous dog s experiment. The classical conditioning involves a particular unconditioned stimulus that
produces a specific unconditioned response, and then the original (unconditioned) stimulus is paired
frequently enough with a new conditioned stimulus that does produce identical trained behavior. Later,
both stimulus will provoke the same response autonomously.
From a broader perspective, the classical conditioning

The Fight For Equal Rights, Especially For Women, Has Never
The fight for equal rights, especially for women, has never been stronger than it is in 2017. Just a few
weeks ago women across the country staged a march on Washington D.C. called The Women s March
on Washington . This march wasn t limited to just Washington, as 5 million participants marched in
places such as New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle to express their disapproval with
recently elected President Trump. This movement was the largest single day demonstration is U.S.

women that marched nearly a hundred years before them. Without the original Women s Rights

The end product of this convention was a signed petition compiled of 32 men and 68 women all

for what was to come in the future. Around 1890 two of the most influential women s rights groups in
the National Women s Suffrage Association and the American Women s Suffrage Association,
combined to become one organization called National Women s Association (NAWSA). The NAWSA
attracted many women from all over to help contribute to its cause to gain equality for women, but it
took a giant step forward with the addition of University of Pennsylvania student Alice Paul. The film
Iron Jawed Angels depicts the encounter of Alice Paul and the NAWSA president Carrie Chapman
Catta and shows us the differences the two had in their ideas. Paul expressed her idea of fighting for
constitutional amendment while Carrie and the elder activists of the group supported a state by state
campaign. Alice also expresses her thoughts about gaining more public attention for women s suffrage
and purposes the activists seek more creative means such as a parade during the inauguration of
President Woodrow Wilson. While Alice thought this was a great and innovative idea, the elder
activists feared that the parade would do nothing but set their movement back as they felt it would

Essay On Kansas State Housing Prices
Kansas State Housing Prices
Introduction
Leading up to my decision to come to Kansas state university, a place every kid in Kansas wants to
come to, I finally decided it was the right university for myself after I got accepted in the spring of my
senior semester in high school. After I started considering it farther, I realized that it was going to cost
a lot of money to attend a four year division one university. I immediately started looking for ways to
try and save every dollar that I could, so I could graduate with less debt.
After coming to tour the campus I really started to fall in love with the Kansas state atmosphere and
knew it was the right place for me. I started looking for roommates shortly after and found three that I

They always seem to choose to live in the dorms the first year. The main reason for this is to focus on
school and be close to their classes for the first year. Typically, college students do not know their
costs of living in the area and have no way of estimating it because they have lived with their parents
their whole life. So, they just agree to pay the dorms tremendously high living expenses. The
university of Kansas State is completely taking advantage of this opportunity of students living in the
dorms. The university is taking in over 29 million dollars according to their projected revenue
statement for this coming year of 2018 (Housing Budget 2018). With this much coming in just for the
dorms and they do not even bother renovating the 1980 s style rooms which are very complex and
typically put two people to one room and they share a bathroom with their sweet mates, and yet they
continue to pile as many kids in there, to bring in as much money as possible in to the housing
department at Kansas State (K State Housing Website). Students do not even think twice about where
else and how much cheaper it would be to live in off campus housing and just agree to pay the over
priced dorms and put their first year of living on their student loans. This causes the students to start
out college in twice as much debt, that could be avoided if the university would lower the costs of
living on campus.

Down Draft 1
I rush to the locker room and check my makeup. I am flustered about my first performance. It is a big
stage, lots to remember, and two whole lines. I know the leads have about 200 or so lines to
remember, but this is my first show and I don t want to look bad by not being able to remember one.
Come on Rebekah, I say to myself. You ve practiced so many times before. You can do this.
I adjust my hat. I think I am getting the jitters. I take one last glance at the girl in the mirror. A red
diamond on her cheek, a red beret with feathers, and a huge card attached to a tabard. Rushing
backstage, I see other cast members. Some of them are as nervous as I. I bump into Sean, who plays

say it,
What is the playing card s favorite dance move? I blurt.
The shuffle! Danielle says, bobbing her head. The catch to these jokes, is the fact that each one goes
with each of our characters. I am the six of diamonds, a playing card. And so is Danielle. We finish
our part of the dance and go to stand with our suit. I remember the poses that I had practiced last night
in the mirror. Every time the music stops, we freeze. Finally the dance is over. I rush offstage, filled
with giddy delight, that I would know for pretty much the rest of my middle school years, and most
likely high school too.
I see Sean later, after curtain call. I fan myself with my hat, sweating. He smiles.

  • 2. Adam and Eve and Temptation Essay Kyle Dudzinski Ms. Cecelia AP English 12 20 December 2010 Temptation Temptation has been around since the conception of our Earth. All civilizations, including the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, the British, and even modern day individuals, have fallen victim to temptations that the world offers. John Owen described temptation as a knife, that may either cut the meat or the throat of a man; it may be his food or his poison, his exercise or destruction. A temptation is an act that appears enticing to an individual, but is usually coupled with damaging implications that may lead to feelings of regret and remorse. A person may fall victim to temptation when he lacks the self control to avoid enticing situations and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Temptation is also rabid in most high school settings. Sex, illegal drugs, alcohol, cheating, and tobacco are all temptations students are faced with on a daily basis. Teenagers must each make personal decisions to either refrain from immoral conduct or succumb to the temptations of peer pressure, usually with the hopes of being accepted. The temptations of potentially destructive decisions are immense. It takes a strong willed individual to stand up against the majority and hold true to his values. Not bowing to temptation is a difficult task for any person, but especially for a high school student who is more worried about his own popularity and appearance and has yet to grow his moral fibers. The temptations that the youth of our modern culture experience are very appealing, but their consequences are more damaging than ever before. Temptation surrounds our lives. Daily, we make decisions to either surrender to it or to persevere against it. It takes courage, bravery, and discipline to withstand temptation. William Butler Yeats wrote that Every conquering temptation represents a new found moral energy. Every trial endured and weathered in the right spirit makes a soul nobler and stronger than it was before. When an individual overcomes the temptation of participating in an immoral act, he grows as a person and becomes morally stronger. With the knowledge of the results of a bad decision, a person can learn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Controversy On Light Light being a particle or wave has provoked controversy amongst many scientists across the world. Back then some scientist argued that light was a particle and not a wave. Others, however, believed that light was a wave and thought it had no properties of a particle. Einstein decided to take matters into his own hands and find out what light was with the help of Max Planck. Light, to begin with, is electromagnetic radiation that is extremely wide or small but enough for it to be visible for us to see. There are various types of color with different wavelengths that affect us in different ways. For example, the light from the Sun warms up the Earth and keeps us from freezing to death. Other types of Light like ultraviolet with shorter wavelength ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Isaac Newton observed that light traveled in a direct line which led him to think that light was made up little particles. Although when you shine two lights opposite from each other they did not collide and scatter everywhere. He saw that they went through each other which made him confused. He also saw that when the light hit the water it bent, (This bending of a ray of light when it passes from one substance into another substance is called refraction). Even though he didn t completely understand light he still made extraordinary discovers like the one I listed above. Lasers are (emission of electromagnetic radiation) and (high speed electrons are forced to move in a circular path by a magnetic field). Light is made up of photos compacted with energy. The short the wave the greater the energy. Because green light has a shorter wavelength it can active some dyes because of it s intensity. A strong laser has the power to heat things up because it s the intense power. This goes to show how light can be absorbed and generate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Shinto Religion Essay Shinto is the oldest religion in Japan. In this religion, members worship deceased family and various gods that represent nature. Shinto differs from most of the other major religions since it does not have founder, prophets, nor does it have a major text which outlines its principal beliefs. Shinto s longevity is due to its flexibility to adapt and become interwoven with the Japanese culture. In fact, much of what the Japanese people highly value in a person s character comes from Shinto s key concepts. Some of the Shinto s key concepts are the importance of purity, physical well being, harmony, procreation and fertility, family and ancestral solidarity, subordination of the individual to the group, and the reverence of nature. They also believe that all things have the potential for both good and bad, and that the soul of the deceased can have a huge influence on the living. As stated before, Shinto does not ... Susanoo was born for the nose of Izanagi. It is said the from Izanagi s right eye, the god of the moon was born. But there are other important gods besides these in the Shinto religion. Inari, the rice god, is important to merchants, shopkeepers, and artisans. The Seven Lucky Gods, also called Shichifukujin, are also very popular. • 5. Analyzing Two Theories of Business Power Two Theories of Business Power Introduction The Dominance and the Pluralist Theories led to the development of socialism and liberalism respectively. The two theories had notable differences, almost contrasting one another. For us to analyze and contrast the two theories, it is notable to understand the fundamental perceptions of Dominance and the Pluralism. Connolly and Connolly (2010) argue that we can define the dominance theory as the theory of Marxist, advanced by Karl Max. This theory has been clearly outlined in the manifesto of the communist. The theory of dominance argues that social divisions based on class result in ruling class community, who control all the production means. Marxism notes that if the proletariat is abused, it favors the interests of the bourgeoisie. This is commonly referred to as the elite theory drawn from Marxist because it suggests a disproportionate control over a privileged minority. Nevertheless, in this case, the control appears to be over the state mechanisms. Therefore, we can believe that the elites only have the ability to influence but not to control the production means. Perhaps, this could be an underlying reason why advocates of this theory are more contented with its continued application compared to other colleagues of Marxist (Tang, 2008). Pluralism is fundamentally a theory favoring equal distribution of power amongst people instead of one individual holding all the power. This theory supports having multiple institutions ... International Marketing and Trade Research follows the very same path as domestic research, only that there are a few more problems that can arise when entering the international market. Customers in international markets may have very different customs, cultures, and expectations from the same company than those in their own mother country. In this case, secondary information must be collected from each separate country and then combined, or compared. Bearing these factors in mind, conducting a feasibility study before considering a prospective market would be an excellent idea. • 11. Descriptive Essay About Homeless People Over 60 million tourists visit New York each year from all across the world. Last summer, my family and I were lucky enough to be some of those tourists. The trip changed my view on a lot of different things, ranging all the way from how people act on the Subways, to the diversity of the city itself. It was such a unique learning experience for me, and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to travel somewhere that was so drastically different from what I am used to. In 2017, there were 62,351 homeless people living in New York. I had seen homeless people down by the Subway tracks in different movies, but seeing it in person made me realize how real of a problem it was. When we got off at our Subway station, there were homeless people sitting on the stairs, between Subway tracks, on benches, and anywhere else they could find a spot. Some were covered in newspapers with ratted blankets around them, some looked like they hadn t showered in weeks, and others looked like they had never owned a toothbrush in their life. Most of them were asking for change and shaking some coins in a cup at us as we walked by. We hadn t been off the Subway for more than 10 minutes, and I had already seen at least three homeless people. Little did I know, that was just the beginning. As we walked up the stairs and out onto the streets of New York City, I was amazed by how many homeless people I saw. Outside, some of them had dogs with them that looked almost as beat up as they did. Most of them had signs in their laps that read things like HOMELESS NEED FOOD AND MONEY or WILL WORK FOR MONEY. Later on in the day, we went to Shake Shack (a burger and shake place) for lunch. When we sat down to eat, we saw that there was a homeless man walking around to different tables asking people if they could give him some money. One guy told the man to go get a job and do something with his life. The homeless man wasn t very happy with this response and began marching around their table cursing at them. I realize that there could have been something mentally wrong with this man, however, it made me realize how poorly some people treat the homeless. A simple no or no thank you would have been a fine response, especially when you don t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the Access to Insight website, it also refers to an instrument tuned on pitch (from sama, even, + anna, reciprocally ), the subject of a famous metaphor of the Buddha. The root sam refers to calmness, tranquility, mental quiet, whereas anna also has the meaning of knowledge, especially the knowledge of an arhant. The royal physician remained silent during all this time. The king asked Jivaka why he was silent. Jivaka told the king that Gotama the Buddha was residing with his entourage in Jivaka s own mango grove, and invited the king to meet the Buddha, to which proposal the king readily agreed. Apparently, the Buddha was the only one of the seven that the king had not yet met. King Ajajtasattu assembled his royal household, and he and his harem of wives, and Jivaka presumably, proceeded by elephant to the mango grove. When the king came near to the grove, it was dark and deathly quiet, and the king suspected a trap, but Jivaka assured him that it was safe. In the distance, he was able to see torches inside a round pavilion, so he made his way there on foot, to find the Buddha sitting inside against the middle column of the pavilion, with many monastics sitting, facing him, all dressed in simple ochre stained robes. • 13. The Development Of Telescope Throughout human history, civilization was built and developed upon a sense of mystery. In the ancient time, people believed the existence of eternal God, who lived beyond people s vision in the vastness of dark sky, and developed their own routine upon that. Observed this mysterious sky for centuries, Greek astronomer Ptolemy finally developed a geocentric model in the Second Century A.D in his book Almagest. In his work, Ptolemy made all of his assumptions were purely based on observations. In 1543, a Polish astronomer Nicholaus Copernicus polished a heliocentric model, which again was derived on visual evidences. These revolutionary discoveries took years to complete. As a comparison, modern astronomical science, which explains the origin of the universe and life cycle of stars, was established and rapidly developed in merely four hundred years: people now understood so much about the universe. These astonishing developments were the result of observational technology advancement: everything people know about this universe is from observation. From simple optical telescopes to radio telescopes and high energy telescopes, people constantly improve observational technologies to make more discoveries. This scientific development reached its climax as people launched a revolutionary telescope above the atmosphere for a better quality of image. These revolutionary changes in observational technology help this universe be more comprehensive to human. The first telescope like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lionel Dahmer (Jeffrey s father) (qtd. in LaBrode). Jeffrey Dahmer, the son of Lionel Dahmer, was a serial killer who lured his unsuspecting victims to his house, savagely killed them, and then cannibalized their corpses. He is only one of the many serial killers who have terrorized our world. They are an example of the evil lurking in humanity. • 16. Strand At Lough Beg And Mametz Wood Poets are the record keepers and moral consciences of their times. In response to this view, explore connections between the ways in which Heaney and Sheers write about memories. As poets are known to be record keepers memories are a key theme that poets often write about due to it being a theme with such a wide range. Heaney and Sheers have both written poems about memories. The two poems that i have chosen to focus on for this essay are Mametz Wood by Owen Sheers and The Strand at Lough Beg by Seamus Heaney. Both of these poems talk about the memories of death so they will no doubt share the same themes and ideas throughout. In the poem Mametz Wood by Owen Sheers we can see that the title of the poem is the name of a place. Mametz Wood is known as the place where the Battle of the Somme took place in July 1916. This gives us the connotation that the poem will have themes of war and death throughout. The use of the place name makes people see that this was a real event that took place. The use of the place name also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These suggest to me again the idea that death and the fear of death slow everything down and heighten things around you. These are all things that Colum would have been experiencing in that moment, the terrifying imagery and sound paint us a picture of the fear that would have coursed through his veins at that moment. However there is a difference between Sheers and Heaney s poems here, as the soldiers were together and although they were going into something horrific they were set out to do that and had a team with them. Colum on the other hand was isolated and had no expectations of being shot at let alone killed. Use Of Penelope s Voice In The Odyssey Lingyan Xie Justice No Truth in Story telling Margaret Atwood gives voice to Penelope, one of antiquity s most infamous heroines, so that she can tell her story at last and set the record straight once and for all (Canongate). The quotation printed at the back of The Penelopiad gives a concise motivation why Margaret Atwood writes the book: Atwood uses Penelope s voice to tell the readers how she is wronged in Homer s Odyssey. Although the narrator Penelope dominates the book, the twelve hanged maids also interpose their own opinion in prose and rhymes. However, it is not hard for the readers to find out that the two perspectives contradict one another, the maids voice is often used as a counterpoint to Penelope s, when it comes to why the maids are hanged. Such neighborhoods often consist of a center with a public transit station, bounded by high density growth with gradually lower density development spreading outward from the center. TODs or transit zones are typically located within a radius of one half mile from a transit station, as this is generally considered a reasonable walking distance for pedestrians. However, geographic proximity alone does not make development transit oriented. Indeed, many developments can be said to be transit adjacent (i.e. within close physical proximity to transit) but not necessarily designed to promote access and use. • 21. Analysis Of The Versace Advertisements When one looks at an image from Calvin Klein, Victoria s Secret, or Versace, the first appeal comes from beautiful models. These individuals are normally jumping, laughing and representing every idealistic way of life by manifesting the idea of a blind promise. Unfortunately, these images are not only created with the intent of being manipulative, but also to resemble the present history involving societal roles. At the moment, Ads are able to capture the political ideologies or the social influences in order to represent the position of modern times. On the other hand, the Versace brand recently released a new campaign on Fall clothes bringing to light a different topic. At a quick glance, the Versace Advertisement depicts the everyday family of four. However, through John Berger s Ways of Seeing, the picture represents the hegemonic portrayal of male dominance, the suppressive forces of society on women, and the influence publicity has on the surveyed. Through this lens, one can understand the social relations and expectations publicity creates for individuals. According to Berger, men in society signify an omnipotent authority. The hegemonic belief that men must be masculine and worthy of power has been a cultural view since the beginning of time. In his essays, Berger explains how God condemned women to be subservient to men, granting them control. Also the author determines how a man s presence is dependent upon the promise of power which he embodies (Berger 45). He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. The Case Against The Fugitive Slave Law Since the spoken word, hundreds of philosophers have defined law in different ways. Philosophy allows people to study the nature of people s beliefs which can differ over time. Not even laws are exempt from the opinions of philosophers. Seeing law in different ways allows people to come to different conclusions about legal cases. The Fugitive Slave Law was a controversial law in American history which allowed slave owners to capture their slaves who have fled north to free states. Once, a group of emancipators in Boston were tried for helping an escaped slave flee to Canada. These emancipators challenged the Fugitive Slave Law in United States v Morris. According to the Fugitive Slave Law, helping an escaped slave is in violation of the law. In this case, the jurors let the emancipators free for helping a slave escape slavery to Canada. This leads to the question Did the jurors in Morris do the right thing? Philosophy gives us the tools to analyze the legality of the juror s actions and answer this question. Natural Law theory, Positivism, Legal Realism, Neo natural law theory, and Paul Butler s theory of law all provide different outlooks to answering this question. Despite having differing beliefs about the role of morality and law, these philosophies all conclude that the jurors in Morris did the right thing. The Earth s capacity to support people is determined both by natural constraints and by human choices concerning economics, environment, culture (including values and politics), and demography. Human carrying capacity is more difficult to estimate than some of the standard demographic indicators, like expectation of life or the total fertility rate, because human carrying capacity depends on populations and activities around the world. Many environmental, social, and economic problems either stem from or are increased in magnitude by the overpopulation problem. With an exponentially increasing population, the problems created by overpopulation grow correspondingly. Population growth is out spacing growth in agricultural production and it is putting increasing pressure on erodible soils, grazing lands, water, and fuel wood supplies (Chapman, Peterson, Smith Moran, 2000). To ensure population stability not only in the increasingly wealthy third world areas, but also in the industrialized areas, countries and individuals must work together to achieve controlled population growth. The earth does not contain enough resources to indefinitely sustain the current enormous population growth. For instance, there only is a limited area of arable land and living space available to us. China, home to 1.2 billion people or 1/5 the world s population, is an excellent example of the kinds of problems that arise in an increasingly crowded society. Trying to increase the standard of living of its people, China has industrialized and the economy has grown (Hanson, 1995). This increase in wealth has increased the demand for food in China. The demand is so great that China went from exporting 8 million tons of grain in 1992 to becoming a net importer of 16 million tons of grain in 1994 (China News Digest, 1995). • 28. Classical And Operant Conditioning The behavioral model is the study of measurable, observable behavior and the way in which the environment determines behavior. Yet, initially, most behaviorists adopted a rather extreme view that it was impossible to scientifically measure mental process, thereby leaving observable behavior as a psychologists only unit of analysis (Lehmiler, 2014, p. 11). The behavioral approach was a radical departure from the dominant psychoanalytic approach leaning toward the side of nurture and giving most of the attention to experience. The behavioral model aims to ameliorate the behavioral problems or seek to alter behavior, this model increase control of the individual over themselves or their environment. Corey (2016), stated the behavioral theory differed for other therapeutic approaches in its application of principles of classical and operant conditioning (p. 233). The classical conditioning refers to to what happens prior to learning that creates a response through pairing (Corey, 2016, p. 235). A key figure in this learning theory is Pavlov, who conducted the famous dog s experiment. The classical conditioning involves a particular unconditioned stimulus that produces a specific unconditioned response, and then the original (unconditioned) stimulus is paired frequently enough with a new conditioned stimulus that does produce identical trained behavior. Later, both stimulus will provoke the same response autonomously. From a broader perspective, the classical conditioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
