This document describes different types of insect larvae and pupae. There are four main types of larvae: apodous (without appendages), oligopod (with thoracic legs developed), polypod (with thoracic and abdominal legs), and protopod (emerge in early embryonic phase). The main types of pupae are obtect (appendages glued to body), exarate (appendages free from body), and coarctate (contained within hardened pupal case). Examples are provided for each type of larvae and pupae.
