The Role Of Power And Influence Within Hereford National Bank
The case study, Who s in Charge?, reveals many lessons involving the lack of power and influence
within Hereford National Bank. Particularly, the case study focuses on James Davis who was hired
away from an investment firm by Eric Johnson, the vice president of marketing. Notably, James was
two years removed from college and, subsequently, placed in charge of the Retirement Division. Two
months later, he was jointly promoted to business development manager. Due to James inexperience
as a leader and the banks inept organizational structure, his power and influence with employees
suffered. Unfortunately, the bank s failure to provide clarity of the organizational structure crippled
James ability to utilize his legitimate, reward, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Subsequently as a leader in the organization, James experienced problems from employees due to the
lack of power and influence in his unstructured role within the organization and mistakes made in his
immature leadership approach.
The problems from employees persisted due to James lack of power and influence in the organization
as a leader. According to Bethel University (2011), leaders who can reward and punish followers may
have a greater capacity to influence followers than those leaders who cannot use rewards or
punishments (p. 107). As a leader and manager in the organization, James acceded to two management
positions offered by vice president of marketing, Eric Johnson, without any clarity of his legitimate,
reward, and coercive powers. Collectively, these powers would have revealed James authority of
position, ability to influence with rewards, and the ability to influence others with disciplinary action
(Bethel University, 2011). James powers and position in the organization was realized when he asked
Eric for a part time secretary. And, even more, when he became infuriated with a supervisor after
asking her subordinates (two clerks) for administrative assistance without prior approval. The
supervisor refused to assist and impolitely questioned his ability to perform his duties and stated, ...it
is your job, causing James to report the situation to Eric (Bethel University, 2011, p. 144).

The Digestive Systems Organs Work
The digestive systems organs work together to help the body turn food into nutrients and energy. Food
passes through the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract). The GI tract is made up of the oral cavity, pharynx,
esophagus, stomach, small intestines, and large intestines. There are accessory organs that do not have
food pass through them but those organs help with the digestive system. They include the teeth,
tongue, salivary glands, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. The six major functions need to happen in the
digestive system and they are ingestion, secretion, mixing and movement, digestion, absorption, and
excretion. (Taylor)
The oral cavity is the mouth. The mouth has the tongue, teeth, and salivary glands inside it. Once food
has entered the mouth, teeth must chop the food into small pieces. The food must be moistened by
saliva before it can be push down the pharynx by the tongue and other muscles. There are about 32
small teeth in the body s mouth. The teeth are the hardest substance in the body. They are bone like
and covered in a layer of enamel. Under the teeth, the pulp, there are blood vessels and nerves. Teeth
are made for grinding and cutting food into smaller pieces. The tongue is located right behind the teeth
and is made of muscles covered in a bumpy, thin, skin like layer. The tongue uses those muscles to
push food to the back of the mouth for swallowing. The mouth has taste buds on it. When food enters
the mouth those taste buds send the taste information

Positive Aspects Of Voluntourism
Vacationers choosing to spend their limited holiday time and vacation budget journeying across the
world to perform volunteer service are a very recent concept. Over the past 15 years, it has grown with
such momentum that both non profit organizations and for profit advisory services and tour operators
are scrambling to match many different agendas. I believe voluntourism is a great way to make you
feel good, and make others happy. For the person who chooses to do this, it is a vacation length
commitment of time, personal energy, possibly a special skill, and money. Motivation of volunteer
vacationers is rarely to accumulate career building credentials or academic credits and kudos. In fact,
many voluntourists deliberately select a project about which they are unapologetically without skill so
they can learn something new. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though some advocates would prefer to ignore the tourism part of the word, it is key to the definition
because it helps to define the scope and the expectations of what is offered and what is received. With
rare exception, voluntourists pay their own expenses including a built in contribution to the project for
which they sign up. If the experience is positive, they also tend to donate more to the project once they
have made a connection and sometimes even raise funds for it once they get back

most important aspect is controlling digital access into and out of the organization s network. In most
cases this means controlling the points of connectivity to the outside world, typically the Internet.
Partitioning the boundary between the outside Internet and the internal intranet is a critical security
piece. Any services not actually needed should be turned off so that they will not become avenues of

UPnP Internet servers were found to have remotely exploitable unchecked buffers that would allow, in
principle, remote malicious hackers. Microsoft Windows is vulnerable to a buffer overflow, caused by
improper bounds checking by the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) service. By sending a specially

Biochemical Mechanisms of ACE Inhibitors
The renin angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS) is a group of hormones that are produced
sequentially in order to regulate salt water homeostasis as well as blood pressure.5 The first enzyme,
renin, is produced by the juxtaglomerular cells of the kidney when blood volume is low and is
released into the bloodstream.3,5,6 Renin then catalyzes the conversion of angiotensinogen to
angiotensin I.3,5,6 Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), which is produced in the lungs,
subsequently converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a more active enzyme.3,5,6 Angiotensin II has
several functions. The hormone s primary mechanism for increasing blood pressure is through the
stimulation of blood vessel constriction. Furthermore, angiotensin II increases the contractility of the
heart via sympathetic activation. It also stimulates anti diuretic hormone (ADH) release, which
increases water reabsorption at the collecting ducts, resulting

Constructivism Research Paper
I chose the topic of Constructivism because I know absolutely nothing of it. This lack of knowledge is
compounded by the fact there isn t information in out text book about the movement! The gauntlet
was down and the challenge accepted: I would find all I could on Constructivism!
When the Bolsheviks came into power during the October Revolution of 1917 in what is modern day
Russia, there was an evolution going on that wasn t entirely political. Constructivism would be
considered the last modern art movement in Russia but would also be the most influential.
Constructivism was highly influenced by both Cubism and Futurism, with heavy emphasis on
abstraction and the purity of geometric forms, much like Suprematism. Russian painter and architect
Vladimir Tatlin founded the movement, although never considered himself a Constructivist but rather
a Productivist, by creating sculptural constructions. He made his assemblages out of industrial
materials such as wood, plaster, glass, and metal. The social and political ideals of Tatlin and that of
the Russian avant garde were in alignment with the Russian populace during the revolution. Tatlin
lived under state sponsored agendas for art and for the most part agreed with the agenda, however his

Fire Of Desire, Of The Movie Rudy Essay
Fire of Desire
Nearly everyone who has succeeded in some venture of life has at one point encountered critics and
criticism. The events throughout the movie, Rudy, directed by David Anspaugh, are no different. The
movie, based on a true story, is an inspiring tale of Daniel quot;Rudy quot; Rudiger s fight against all
odds to play football for Notre Dame. Rudy, through the course of his entire life, had been told by
everyone that chasing his dream of playing Notre Dame football would only cause him heartache.
Despite all hindrances, Rudy, played by Sean Astin, accomplished his dream, and is to this day the last
Notre Dame football player to be carried off the field. The reoccurring them in the movie is to be ...

Clearly, Rudy s coach felt he had the most heart of anyone on the team. Players with desire like that of
Rudy are becoming increasingly harder to find in today s world of athletics, and therefore coaches are
coming to appreciate them more. Rudy s self confidence and persistence in the game of football,
despite not being born with an incredible ability to play the game, is truly awe inspiring and worthy of
much praise.
Rudy was continually persistent in chasing his dream, despite constantly hearing throughout his entire
upbringing that he could not do it. Rudy perhaps faced his greatest criticism in high school, where
everyone from his parents and siblings, friends and teachers were unsupportive of his dream. Rudy
was once told in high school, quot; The secret to happiness in this life is to be grateful for the things
the good Lord has bestowed upon us...Not everyone was meant to go to college quot; (Civics teacher).
Many teachers say they have gotten into teaching because they enjoy being a mentor to children, and
children definitely need mentors during this point in their lives. Obviously, this was not the case for
Rudy s civics teacher, who spoke very adversely to Rudy about pursuing his dream. Even worse, his
own father once told him, quot;Chasing a stupid dream causes you and everyone else nothing but
heartache. Notre Dame is for rich kids, smart kids, great athletes. Not us. You re a Rudiger, and

Ozone Depletion
The ozone layer is a specific area in the stratosphere of maximum ozone concentration. Ozone in the
stratosphere forms naturally and protects us from damage that can be caused by solar radiation such as
skin cancer. In the 1970s chemists discovered that certain chemicals could travel into the upper
atmosphere and damage the protective ozone. Ever since this was discovered scientists, government,
and citizens have been making efforts to control and reverse the damage done to the ozone. In 1987 a
treaty called the Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer was signed by world
leaders who were participating in the Vienna Convention on the Protection of the Ozone Layer.
Without this protocol the abundances of chlorine would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One particular part of the interview that was interesting to me was when the woman, Adele, called in
and asked how chlorine commonly used in swimming pools affected the ozone. Russell Schnell told
her that chlorine does not make it up into the stratosphere because it is oxidized. The only way that
chlorine gets up into the stratosphere is if it is carried up with chemicals that it is bound to. Once it is
in the stratosphere the sunlight breaks off the chlorine. I simply assumed that when someone drains
their pool at the end of the summer the water would evaporate and the chlorine would then rise up into
the stratosphere. From this I know now that chlorine must be bound to other chemicals in order to
make it up that far. In 2011 there was record ozone depletion over the Arctic that is far worse than the
holes in the Antarctic s protective atmospheric layer that first appeared in the 1980s. There are
concerns that the Northern Hemisphere may periodically experience harmful levels of ultraviolet
radiation in the spring. Chemist Geir Braathen said it was significantly worse than anything we had
ever seen. Typically spring ozone depletions maxes out at 20 to 30 percent drop but in 2011 there was
a loss of about 40 percent. In Antarctica 70 percent of ozone can disappear in the spring time. The
ozone layer is vital in protecting us from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.

Candide By Voltaire And The Song `` Pursuit Of Happiness...
Throughout history people have been looking for something that made life special, spectacular, or one
of a kind. Today, this search is known to the world as the pursuit of happiness . The phrase use was
heightened during the enlightenment period and lingered for long after. This impact of its use did not
only impact the way life was looked at but also impacted the arts during that time and for the future.
Two pieces that show this evidence is the novel Candide by Voltaire and the song Pursuit of Happiness
by Kid Cudi. Both of these works, even though they were published more than two centuries apart,
carry the theme of the pursuit of happiness. These pieces are evidence of the unchanging pursuit that
mankind goes through.
The beginning of the pursuit is where both of the stories start off. Where the characters get a taste of
what they believe to be pure happiness . In Kid Cudi s song, the narrator finds what they believe to be
happiness in drugs and alcohol. Crush a bit, little bit, roll it up take a hit... I don t care hand on the
wheel, drivin drunk I m doin my thing. (AZ Lyrics) However, in Voltaire s Candide, the character
Cunegonde starts an infection of the search in the other character through the observation of Pangloss,
her teacher, giving her mother s chambermaid a lesson in natural experimental philosophy (3 Voltaire)
in the park. She was filled with the desire to be learned; dreaming that she might well be a sufficient
reason for young Candide, and he

Parthenon Vs Pantheon
The Parthenon and the Pantheon are iconic structures from ancient times. Both have suffered through
wars and turmoil over the last few millennia, as well as erosion due to natural causes, but they
continue to be masterful representations of the classical style. We see similarities between the two
with their use of classical Greek elements and intended function as temples, but there are also
differences between them.
The Parthenon, which began construction in 447 B.C., ...was designed by the architects Ictinus and
Calibrates and is considered the most perfect example of the Doric style of Greek architecture
(Moulton, 1998a). Unfortunately, much of the original building has not survived over the years, but
the Doric elements can still be clearly seen in places such as its columns. The Pantheon, which was
built between 118 128 A.D., also features elements that originated in Greece. Most prominently, it
features Corinthian columns which support it s portico, or porch. Perhaps merely a coincidence, but

the Pantheon is truly spectacular. It is clear that the architects and designers were incredibly invested

History And Independence Of The United Kingdom
One of the richest countries, once ruled move then over half the world now outlines many countries
deep history and independence. The United Kingdom ran an empire that had it all. Our history dates
back to more than 800,000 years ago. The country had a charm to the unsullied land, with majestic
castles rich with liberty, breathtaking coastlines and undulating meadows for miles. Great Britain was
the land with a prosperous future; the power it held was overwhelming. At the peak of its power, the
phrase the empire on which the sun never sets was often used to describe the British Empire, because
its expanse around the globe meant that the sun was always shining on at least one of its territories. By
1922 the British Empire held sway over about 458 million people, one fifth of the world s population
at the time. This is a great deal for such a small nation. We were running our own country as well as
many others and essentially ruling the world.
As time goes on we are hit not with one war but two, collapsing the economy causing a recession,
inflation and strikes in 1973. At these desperate times looking across the English Channel, we see the
striving illusion of a booming economy with six westernized countries, Belgium, France, West
Germany, Italy, Luxemburg and the Netherlands. They called them selves the European Union. In a
moment of great despair we thought we were joining a growing market when in fact we were

Comparison of Four Poems about Loss Essay
Comparison of Four Poems about Loss
I am comparing On my first Sonne by Ben Jonson (a pre 1914 piece of poetry, written in 1616), My
Last Duchess by Robert Browning (a pre 1914 piece of poetry, written in 1845), Mid Term Break by
Seamus
Heaney (a piece of poetry from the Heaney bank) and Cold Knap Lake by Gillian Clarke (a piece of
poetry from the Clarke bank).
The poem, On my first Sonne is about the loss of a close family member, Ben Jonson s first son, who
died at the age of seven. The poem is about the poet coming to terms with the truth, that his first son
had died and he would never see him again. In the poem, the poet goes through different stages of
grief and he is very emotional about his loss. The poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem is of cold emotion; the only emotion is anger at her behaviour.
Another poem about loss, Mid Term Break , confronts the death of
Seamus Heaney s younger brother, probably from an accident. Like the previous two poems, Mid
Term Break concerns the loss of a close family member. The overall view of death in this poem is
quite a dramatic one, with the description of contrasting emotions of different people.
At the beginning it is unemotional. Then the poet describes the emotions and behaviour of others
(father, family, friends, the baby, and mother). Finally, the next morning, he goes into his brother s
room to see his body. There is a sense of peace in the room,
Snowdrops And candles soothed the bedside, and he sees his brother looking pale and lying in his
small coffin. At the end of the poem,
Heaney appears to accept that his brother is dead and there is an air of calm.
In contrast to the other three poems discussed previously, the poem, Cold
Knap Lake describes the near loss of a stranger who would have drowned to death if it was not for
Gillian Clarke s mother doing resuscitation on an unknown child. Gillian Clarke remembers her
mother giving the girl the kiss of life which ultimately saved her. my mother gave a stranger s child

As indicated by James Coates and Michael Kilian s Heavy Losses (1985), in World War II a military
assistant of Nationalist General Chiang Kai shek expressed that in Chiang s army, Sun Tzu s The Art
of War was considered a classic but out of date (Shafritz and Borick 2011). A few years later Chiang
fell to Sun Tzu s tactics employed at the hands of Mao [the leader of the Chinese Communists]
(Shafritz and Borick 2011).
Sun Tzu has never been more important than today (Shafritz and Borick 2011). In fact, any reasonable
person would agree that he is greater today as far as the impact of his thoughts than he ever was, when
he was alive (Shafritz and Borick 2011).
Sometime in the past Sun Tzu was a general without an armed force; he required a vocation (Shafritz
and Borick 2011). As per Samuel B. Griffith s true to life record of Sun Tzu in Griffith s interpretation
of The Art of War (1963), this book earned Sun Tzu a job meeting with the King of Wu in focal China

The ruler, considering how to focus Sun Tzu s legitimacy as a general, inquired as to whether he could

King s (MLK) Letter from Birmingham Jail, was written in 1963 as a response to the Eight Alabama
Clergymen s public statement against King s actions in April of that year. Martin Luther King Jr. was
an activist for desegregation of the south in the early 1960s and overcame much adversity to attain
incredible gains on the segregation issue in the United States. King uses effective persuasive appeals
of logical evidence, emotional appeal, and author credibility to win over his audience in The Letter

King brings in the question, what is a just and unjust law? A just law is one that promotes good morals
and is followed by both the majority as well as the minority of society. Martin Luther King Jr. defines
an unjust law as: A human law that is not rooted in eternal law and natural law... Any law that
degrades human personality is unjust. All segregation statutes are unjust because segregation distorts
the soul and damages the personality (658). MLK even covers the fact that some laws are just on the
surface, but unjust in how they are enforced. The example of his imprisonment proves this statement.
He was arrested for parading without a permit, but this is an unjust law because it promotes
segregation and denies basic constitutional rights to freedom of speech and assembly (659). He uses
these soulful explanations of just and unjust laws trying to appeal to his readers emotions, though the
notion of just and unjust laws may seem logical to them as well. Just and unjust laws may be
considered logical evidence as well as emotional, but Martin Luther King Jr. uses a few much better
logical examples to convince the audience to see his point of view. His logical examples of moral
wrongdoings include strong emotion and cold harsh facts. Birmingham s history of cruel segregation
is well known and possibly the most segregated city in the United States. There were more unsolved

Religion In Candide, By Voltaire
Does religion affect the lives of people today? In the book Candide written by Voltaire in 1750s,
almost every person s life is influenced and directly impacted by religion. Throughout Europe in the
16th century, most kingdoms and countries were dominated by Catholicism. It was the main religion,
and many rulers forced it upon the people. Despite how many people found it wrong and unethical to
force it upon others, they continued to do so, punishing anyone in their way. The Age of
Enlightenment is a period where new ideas closely associated with science were spreading. Voltaire
was enlightened; he had a disbelief of religion. This led to him, along with many others realizing how
much it dominated everything. The novel Candide satirizes religion ... Show more content on

Voltaire achieves this by showing how absurd and seemingly crazy he is, the minister tells Candide
Thou dost not deserve to eat, said the other. Be Gone, rogue; begone, wretch; do not come near me

Voltaire also shows how bigoted his wife is also, as Voltaire wrote, putting her head out of the
window, and spying a man that doubted whether the Pope was Antichrist, poured over him a full....
Oh, heavens! to what excess does religious zeal carry the ladies (27). This shows how little the

The unwillingness to help a starving man solely due to his beliefs seems crazy now, but no as much in
the 16th Century if you were Christian. Voltaire does an excellent job a satirizing Christianity, by
showing how intolerant and how averse they are to helping . Voltaire shows this in Candide because of
his numerous distasteful experiences he had dealt with, due to Christians. One example of a rough
experience Candide had was exiled from many countries because of his writings, which made
Christianity look bad. Candide does an excellent job at doing this, he was capable of shamming them

persistent attempts to invade and had gained control of much of the north and east of the country.
Alfred led his military in protecting the people and defending his kingdom . Some attacks were lost
and some won. Alfred would sometime pay the Danish armies to leave.
In 878 the Vikings led by King Guthrum, invaded Wessex. King Alfred openly fought with his men
and they eventually defeated Guthrum. One of the terms of the surrender was that Guthrum convert to
Christianity. (Alfred the Great) Guthrum was baptized. The country was divided into two regions.
Guthrum settled in the East. With this agreement, there was a time when there was peace.
King Alfred used this time to rebuild. He organized a system of burhs or forts spread across his
kingdom. This system made it difficult for Viking attacks. Alfred also ordered the construction of a
small fleet of long ships, twice the size of a Viking warship. (Alfred the Great) He felt having these
ships was a better way to fight the Vikings. He would meet them head on in the water instead of
allowing them to reach land. He is credited with being known as the founder of the Royal

Personal Experience And Quality Measurement Report
To: Dr. Hudson Classmates.
Subject: Personal Experience Quality Measurement.
Hello classmates, I only have one week to write this email and get this message out to you before class
ends. First, I want to express how much insight I have gained from each one of you. Your post
discussions and questions related back to me, forced me to think outside the box.
My experience during this five weeks, left me enlightened and a bit overwhelmed at the same time.
The pressure to complete my degree before my GI bill funds runs out is very stressful. I feel I am in a
race against time. These five weeks I learned more than I had planned to learn about policy and law.

The CHIPRA bill included $33 billion in federal funds for children s coverage through 2019, however,
the funds would only cover through the year of 2015. At the end of 2015 President Obama once again
signed legislation to provide two more years through 2017 2019.
The purpose of CHIP is to provide health insurance to low income children whose family income is
above the eligibility level for Medicaid in their state. Both these programs have covered over 15
million children and many of them live in low income families.
However, these are great programs for low income families and children who needs medical care.
Lessons and ideas, I have learned from this class, is that the polices and laws that are created by our
government. These are put in place to protect us in many ways, such the protection of our food and
water. The policies, laws, and guidelines that are put in place through the health care system. Giving
us access to treatment and protecting our right through the HIIPPA laws.
Another, good thing about policy and law is the public health preparedness which alerts us of all kinds
of illness, diesters, they are working to help the public in protecting our well being.
From a Christian scholar point of view, I know all things belong to God, I am the Alpha and the
Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:13 NIV).
We live in a sinful world and nothing is going to be perfect until Christ returns. As long as we

Pvr Case Study Essay
Unit II Case Study Instructions 1. Discuss how PVRs will affect the demand from advertisers.
In order to examine the effect that PVR has on advertising companies, we need to consider the needs
of society and how will it benefit from this video recorder.
Comfort is an important issue in today s society. The easy programming and the large video recording
space, which reaches up to 60 hours, makes this devise very desirable. Moreover, the flexibility to
play the recorded program repeatedly at the viewers most convenient time removes the need to
schedule your day based on the programs.
Advertising Companies depend on programs to promote products or services based on the client.

How many minutes of advertising will you sell? What is total revenue? b) Suppose price is held
constant at the value from part (a). What will happen to the quantity demanded if due to PVRs the
number of expected viewers falls to 0.5 million? Calculate the viewer elasticity based on the two
points. Explain in words what this value means.
3. As more viewers begin using PVRs, what happens to the revenues of the major networks (CBS,
NBC, ABC, and FOX)?
Networks such as CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX obtain most of their revenue through advertisements.
The popularity of the network defines the how reliable they are. However, with the increase usage of
PVR in every household, networks such as ABC, CBS and NBC filed a lawsuit against SonicBlue,
maker of the ReplayTV personal video recorder. Their argument was that the latest version of the
ReplayTV device would remove them of revenue and reduce their incentive to create programming.

4. Discuss the long run effects if a significant proportion of the viewers begin adopting these
advertising snipping systems.
Considering all the benefits that PVR has given to the viewer, it is understandable that the affect that
this device will have on them can be considered to be positive as well as negative.

Stock Valuation
LECTURE
STOCK VALUATION 1. Common stock valuation A share of common stock is more difficult to value
in practice than a bond, for at least three reasons. First, with common stock, not even the promised
cash flows are known in a advance. Second, the life of the investment is essentially forever, since
common stock has no maturity. Third, there is no way to easily observe the rate of return that the
market requires. Nonetheless, as we will see, there are cases in which we can come up with the present
value of the future cash flows for a share of stock and thus determine its value. Cash Flows Imagine
that you are considering buying a share of stock today. You plan to sell the stock in one year. You
somehow know that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From Chapter 6 (Example 6.7), we know that the dividend on a share of preferred stock has zero
growth and thus is constant through time. For a zero growth share of common stock, this implies that:
D1 = D2 = D3 = D = constant So, the value of the stock is:
|P0= |
If the dividend grows at a steady rate, then we have replaced the problem of forecasting an infinite
number of future dividends with the problem of coming up with a single growth rate, a considerable
simplification. In this case, if we take D0 to be the dividend just paid and g to be the constant growth
rate, the value of a share of stock can be written as:
|P0= |D1 |+ |D2 |+ |D3 |+... | |
| |(1+R)1 | |(1+R)2 | |(1+R)3 | | |
|= |D0(1+g)1 |+ |D0(1+g)2 |+ |D0(1+g)3 |+... | |
| |(1+R)1 | |(1+R)2 | |(1+R)3 | | |
As long as the growth rate, g, is less than the discount rate, r, the present value of this series of cash
flows can be written very simply as:
|P0= |D0(1+g) |= |D1

Watching Tv Is Not So Bad
Do you enjoy spending your nights off work laying on the couch binge watching your favorite show
on Netflix? I know I do. Things such as binge watching and marathoning TV series is becoming more
and more socially acceptable in our day and age but there are still many people who hold the beliefs
that watching TV makes you dumb, and who say things like you should find something useful to do
with your time. Because to them, watching TV has no benefits to it at all. But what if there were
actually ways to prove to those people that our binge watching habits can actually make us smarter?
As a person who loves her TV marathons, I was quite interested in this topic when it got brought up. I
was pretty pleased when I learned that watching TV really is not so bad. Here are some ways how: the
first is that watching TV can relieve stress. A study done by the university of Rochester found that
watching TV contributes to lower blood pressure and stress relief. TV is a way to distract ourselves for
a little while from the daily stresses and worries in our lives. Another way that watching TV benefits
us is that watching TV can actually boost your creativity. Have you ever found it useful to have the TV
on in the background while you are getting some work done? According to a study published in The
Journal of Consumer Research the sounds of TV can boost creativity even if you are not fully engaged
in watching. TV also is not all bad for young teenagers to be watching either. Most

Whoooooosh! If you listened closely enough early Wednesday morning, you may have heard Andy

defeated in the second round of the Australian Open.
The Djoker has ruled the tournament Down Under, holding six titles and winning five of the last six
finals at the event. Many, myself included, believed that Djokovic s return to the Grand Slam he has
been most successful at would right his mental ship and return him to his championship form.
Obviously, that wasn t the case.
Denis Istomin, ranked 117th in the world, defeated the former world No. 1 7 6 (8), 5 7, 2 6, 7 6 (5), 6

Like all tennis matches, there are two sides with the outcome. To his credit, Istomin came to play and

obviously above his level. You got to give him credit for that. Many things came together for him

Qimonda AG, a German semiconductor manufacturer, had patent cross licenses with many of its
competitors. Such licenses, in industries like electronics, allow parties in effect to have a truce with
respect to patents, so that they may proceed their respective businesses. Qimonda file bankruptcy and
ceased operations, so no longer needed the protection of the cross licenses. Rather, it terminated the
licenses under German bankruptcy law, to replace them with licenses under which it would receive
royalty payments. Qimonda filed a chapter 15 bankruptcy proceeding in the United States, to do the
same with its American licenses. The representative committed to re license Qimonda s patent
portfolio to the Licensees at a reasonable and nondiscriminatory ( RAND ) royalty. However, the
American courts held that US bankruptcy law did not allow licenses. Chapter 15 of the Bankruptcy
Code allows the representative of a foreign bankruptcy proceeding to file an ancillary proceeding in
the United States. It also allows broad recognition of orders entered in the foreign bankruptcy
proceeding. But the recognition is subject to certain safeguards. The US bankruptcy court may refuse
to apply the foreign order if the action would be manifestly contrary to the public policy of the United
States. In addition, the court must ensure that the interests of the creditors and other interested entities,
including the debtor, are sufficiently protected.

addition, A crowned Serpent, with its tail in its mouth, forming a ring, the emblem of Eternity (646) is
also etched on the coffin. Since a circle has no beginning or an end, this shape represents a
philosophical idea of eternity. The way the snake bites its own tails reveals a concept of self

circulation, self starvation, or imprisonment, all of which contribute to Clarissa s tragedy (82). The
root cause of Clarissa s tragic life is her inability in obtaining autonomy of her life. The society

Reflection Of Generations
Generations
My grandfather was an excessively organized and thrifty man who liked to repurpose what others
threw away. He used to clean used paint cans to leave them gleaming. Sometimes remains of paint in
the cans were still fresh and they were relatively easy to clean. On the contrary, if the cans were old
and the paint on them was dry, my grandfather had to use some solvent and a lot of old rags. My
grandfather spent many hours working on that activity. When the cans were perfectly clean, he used
them to store screws, nails, nuts and bolts properly organized in his garage. Being thrifty and
organized were characteristics in people of my grandfather s generation; however, some of the things
that they did seemed absurd to me at that time. In the same way, it is probably that my daughters find
it senseless some things that I and people of my generation do. Nevertheless, it is not about judging
one generation to the other. We need to understand that no generation is better or worse than another:
simply, our behavior is different depending on the times and circumstances. Respecting each other and
learning from our differences, we will be able to live in harmony as a big multigenerational family.
Each generation has certain characteristics and values with which the members of it can identify.
Members of Generation X highly value their job and family time; so they try to find a balance
between these two aspects of their lives. Generation X are hardworking people, but they are

Assembling In The Iliad
Ethan Medley

Assembling in The Iliad
(Holding councils of war or holding assemblies) Every great war in history has been determined, to
some extent, by the powerful strategies executed by one party of the war. These strategies , most of the
time, are not the brainchild of one individual, but more or less a group of people collaborating toward
one strategy effective enough to turn the tides of battle. The most effective way for important leaders
to voice their opinions for their next endeavor is achieved through the use of assemblies. Assemblies
were very important to the armies in the Trojan War, as both sides had great power, meaning that
cunning strategy would be the winning factor for one of the parties involved in the Trojan War.
However, assemblies held during the Trojan War were more one sided toward the authoritative figures
rather than a true collaboration between leaders and wise men. These assemblies follow a simple
pattern: a leader calls out to the army to form an assembly when he sees it fit; then, the leaders and
wise men then collaborate and voice their opinions on the matter at hand; and finally, the figure with
the highest authority in the assembly decides what to do next as a result of the assembly. The assembly
begins with an important leader calling for one when he sees it fit to form one. For example, an
assembly was called by Achilles due to concerns from the plague in Book 1; it was revealed that

Osteoarthritis Site Analysis
Analysis of osteoarthritis for each site was conducted in order to determine whether any of the joint
changes in the skeletal remains might indicate changes in physical activity levels before and after
colonization. To better ascertain the differences in the colonial eras, the prehistoric burials from
Corinth and Apollonia were separated from the colonial periods. Even though every site has
individuals of indeterminate sex only a comparison between those individuals for whom sex could be
reasonably estimated was done.
It is instructive to examine the occurrence of osteoarthritis on both the right and left sides of the body.
My initial assessment showed that there are no appreciable differences by side of any given joint;
therefore, only the left side is used for analysis (Table 4). Osteoarthritis of the vertebrae obviously
does not have a side, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthritis is simply counted as a single joint.
Examination of Table 4 indicates that there is a relatively high prevalence of osteoarthritis in three

individuals with the higher prevalence of osteoarthritis occur in the Middle age category at Apollonia,
Epidamnus, Corinth, and Lofkënd. Individuals in the Older adult category were impacted more by
osteoarthritis in prehistoric Apollonia. Unexpectedly, prehistoric Corinth remains show an equal
frequency of osteoarthritis occurring in the Young and Middle age adult groups (Figure 9).
Unfortunately, prehistoric Corinth had a very small sample size and this sample may not accurately

Rather than focusing on cutting jobs, they focused on reducing expenses and cutting back on
unnecessary items. The terrorist attacks are only one of the causes of crisis in the industry because
there are several issues that threaten the industry. One that was mentioned earlier gas prices. Labor
disputes are a factor as well. You may say that the airline industry has hit an extremely bad era. The
changes that these airlines are being driven to make will be very different from the way it used to be.
As most people know, the government has had much in bailing out business and the transformation
that some have undergone and the airline industry is no exception. The government has a major
influence on the restructuring of the industry and the air transportation system in general. To combat
the escalating expenses of enhanced security and diminishing supply demand, employee layoffs and
service trimming were the first areas to see cutbacks. This is certainly a competitive industry with new
companies surfacing and others failing. The restructuring will definitely influence the airline industry
s inclination concerning the development of both domestic and international service. It has been hard
for this industry to keep revenue up and cover all the rising expenses, which makes for an obstruction
in growth and prosperity. Gas prices play a massive key role in the struggle of this industry. At one

  • 2. The Role Of Power And Influence Within Hereford National Bank The case study, Who s in Charge?, reveals many lessons involving the lack of power and influence within Hereford National Bank. Particularly, the case study focuses on James Davis who was hired away from an investment firm by Eric Johnson, the vice president of marketing. Notably, James was two years removed from college and, subsequently, placed in charge of the Retirement Division. Two months later, he was jointly promoted to business development manager. Due to James inexperience as a leader and the banks inept organizational structure, his power and influence with employees suffered. Unfortunately, the bank s failure to provide clarity of the organizational structure crippled James ability to utilize his legitimate, reward, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Subsequently as a leader in the organization, James experienced problems from employees due to the lack of power and influence in his unstructured role within the organization and mistakes made in his immature leadership approach. The problems from employees persisted due to James lack of power and influence in the organization as a leader. According to Bethel University (2011), leaders who can reward and punish followers may have a greater capacity to influence followers than those leaders who cannot use rewards or punishments (p. 107). As a leader and manager in the organization, James acceded to two management positions offered by vice president of marketing, Eric Johnson, without any clarity of his legitimate, reward, and coercive powers. Collectively, these powers would have revealed James authority of position, ability to influence with rewards, and the ability to influence others with disciplinary action (Bethel University, 2011). James powers and position in the organization was realized when he asked Eric for a part time secretary. And, even more, when he became infuriated with a supervisor after asking her subordinates (two clerks) for administrative assistance without prior approval. The supervisor refused to assist and impolitely questioned his ability to perform his duties and stated, ...it is your job, causing James to report the situation to Eric (Bethel University, 2011, p. 144). ... • 3. The Digestive Systems Organs Work The digestive systems organs work together to help the body turn food into nutrients and energy. Food passes through the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract). The GI tract is made up of the oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestines, and large intestines. There are accessory organs that do not have food pass through them but those organs help with the digestive system. They include the teeth, tongue, salivary glands, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. The six major functions need to happen in the digestive system and they are ingestion, secretion, mixing and movement, digestion, absorption, and excretion. (Taylor) The oral cavity is the mouth. The mouth has the tongue, teeth, and salivary glands inside it. Once food has entered the mouth, teeth must chop the food into small pieces. The food must be moistened by saliva before it can be push down the pharynx by the tongue and other muscles. There are about 32 small teeth in the body s mouth. The teeth are the hardest substance in the body. They are bone like and covered in a layer of enamel. Under the teeth, the pulp, there are blood vessels and nerves. Teeth are made for grinding and cutting food into smaller pieces. The tongue is located right behind the teeth and is made of muscles covered in a bumpy, thin, skin like layer. The tongue uses those muscles to push food to the back of the mouth for swallowing. The mouth has taste buds on it. When food enters the mouth those taste buds send the taste information ... • 4. Positive Aspects Of Voluntourism Vacationers choosing to spend their limited holiday time and vacation budget journeying across the world to perform volunteer service are a very recent concept. Over the past 15 years, it has grown with such momentum that both non profit organizations and for profit advisory services and tour operators are scrambling to match many different agendas. I believe voluntourism is a great way to make you feel good, and make others happy. For the person who chooses to do this, it is a vacation length commitment of time, personal energy, possibly a special skill, and money. Motivation of volunteer vacationers is rarely to accumulate career building credentials or academic credits and kudos. In fact, many voluntourists deliberately select a project about which they are unapologetically without skill so they can learn something new. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though some advocates would prefer to ignore the tourism part of the word, it is key to the definition because it helps to define the scope and the expectations of what is offered and what is received. With rare exception, voluntourists pay their own expenses including a built in contribution to the project for which they sign up. If the experience is positive, they also tend to donate more to the project once they have made a connection and sometimes even raise funds for it once they get back ... IS3220 Project Network Survey Chris Wig Essay IS3220 Project Network Survey Chris Wiginton, Jose Rosado ITT Technical Institute, Tampa FL Instructor: Sherman Moody 10 October, 2014 Besides the basic physical security of a site, the next most important aspect is controlling digital access into and out of the organization s network. In most cases this means controlling the points of connectivity to the outside world, typically the Internet. Partitioning the boundary between the outside Internet and the internal intranet is a critical security piece. When the Bolsheviks came into power during the October Revolution of 1917 in what is modern day Russia, there was an evolution going on that wasn t entirely political. Constructivism would be considered the last modern art movement in Russia but would also be the most influential. Constructivism was highly influenced by both Cubism and Futurism, with heavy emphasis on abstraction and the purity of geometric forms, much like Suprematism. Russian painter and architect Vladimir Tatlin founded the movement, although never considered himself a Constructivist but rather a Productivist, by creating sculptural constructions. Rudy was continually persistent in chasing his dream, despite constantly hearing throughout his entire upbringing that he could not do it. Rudy perhaps faced his greatest criticism in high school, where everyone from his parents and siblings, friends and teachers were unsupportive of his dream. Ozone in the stratosphere forms naturally and protects us from damage that can be caused by solar radiation such as skin cancer. Ever since this was discovered scientists, government, and citizens have been making efforts to control and reverse the damage done to the ozone. One particular part of the interview that was interesting to me was when the woman, Adele, called in and asked how chlorine commonly used in swimming pools affected the ozone. Russell Schnell told her that chlorine does not make it up into the stratosphere because it is oxidized. The only way that chlorine gets up into the stratosphere is if it is carried up with chemicals that it is bound to. Once it is in the stratosphere the sunlight breaks off the chlorine. I simply assumed that when someone drains their pool at the end of the summer the water would evaporate and the chlorine would then rise up into the stratosphere. From this I know now that chlorine must be bound to other chemicals in order to make it up that far. In 2011 there was record ozone depletion over the Arctic that is far worse than the holes in the Antarctic s protective atmospheric layer that first appeared in the 1980s. There are concerns that the Northern Hemisphere may periodically experience harmful levels of ultraviolet radiation in the spring. • 10. Candide By Voltaire And The Song `` Pursuit Of Happiness... Throughout history people have been looking for something that made life special, spectacular, or one of a kind. Today, this search is known to the world as the pursuit of happiness . The phrase use was heightened during the enlightenment period and lingered for long after. This impact of its use did not only impact the way life was looked at but also impacted the arts during that time and for the future. Two pieces that show this evidence is the novel Candide by Voltaire and the song Pursuit of Happiness by Kid Cudi. Both of these works, even though they were published more than two centuries apart, carry the theme of the pursuit of happiness. These pieces are evidence of the unchanging pursuit that mankind goes through. The beginning of the pursuit is where both of the stories start off. Where the characters get a taste of what they believe to be pure happiness . In Kid Cudi s song, the narrator finds what they believe to be happiness in drugs and alcohol. Like the previous two poems, Mid Term Break concerns the loss of a close family member. The overall view of death in this poem is quite a dramatic one, with the description of contrasting emotions of different people. At the beginning it is unemotional. Then the poet describes the emotions and behaviour of others (father, family, friends, the baby, and mother). Finally, the next morning, he goes into his brother s room to see his body. There is a sense of peace in the room, Snowdrops And candles soothed the bedside, and he sees his brother looking pale and lying in his small coffin. At the end of the poem, Heaney appears to accept that his brother is dead and there is an air of calm. In contrast to the other three poems discussed previously, the poem, Cold Knap Lake describes the near loss of a stranger who would have drowned to death if it was not for Gillian Clarke s mother doing resuscitation on an unknown child. King brings in the question, what is a just and unjust law? A just law is one that promotes good morals and is followed by both the majority as well as the minority of society. Martin Luther King Jr. defines an unjust law as: A human law that is not rooted in eternal law and natural law... Any law that degrades human personality is unjust. All segregation statutes are unjust because segregation distorts the soul and damages the personality (658). MLK even covers the fact that some laws are just on the surface, but unjust in how they are enforced. The example of his imprisonment proves this statement. He was arrested for parading without a permit, but this is an unjust law because it promotes segregation and denies basic constitutional rights to freedom of speech and assembly (659). He uses these soulful explanations of just and unjust laws trying to appeal to his readers emotions, though the notion of just and unjust laws may seem logical to them as well. In this case, if we take D0 to be the dividend just paid and g to be the constant growth rate, the value of a share of stock can be written as: |P0= |D1 |+ |D2 |+ |D3 |+... | | | |(1+R)1 | |(1+R)2 | |(1+R)3 | | | |= |D0(1+g)1 |+ |D0(1+g)2 |+ |D0(1+g)3 |+... | | | |(1+R)1 | |(1+R)2 | |(1+R)3 | | | As long as the growth rate, g, is less than the discount rate, r, the present value of this series of cash flows can be written very simply as: |P0= |D0(1+g) |= |D1 ... Such licenses, in industries like electronics, allow parties in effect to have a truce with respect to patents, so that they may proceed their respective businesses. Qimonda file bankruptcy and ceased operations, so no longer needed the protection of the cross licenses. Rather, it terminated the licenses under German bankruptcy law, to replace them with licenses under which it would receive royalty payments. Qimonda filed a chapter 15 bankruptcy proceeding in the United States, to do the same with its American licenses. The representative committed to re license Qimonda s patent portfolio to the Licensees at a reasonable and nondiscriminatory ( RAND ) royalty. However, the American courts held that US bankruptcy law did not allow licenses. Chapter 15 of the Bankruptcy Code allows the representative of a foreign bankruptcy proceeding to file an ancillary proceeding in the United States. It also allows broad recognition of orders entered in the foreign bankruptcy proceeding. But the recognition is subject to certain safeguards. The US bankruptcy court may refuse to apply the foreign order if the action would be manifestly contrary to the public policy of the United States. In addition, the court must ensure that the interests of the creditors and other interested entities, including the debtor, are sufficiently protected. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Reflection Of Generations Generations My grandfather was an excessively organized and thrifty man who liked to repurpose what others threw away. He used to clean used paint cans to leave them gleaming. Sometimes remains of paint in the cans were still fresh and they were relatively easy to clean. On the contrary, if the cans were old and the paint on them was dry, my grandfather had to use some solvent and a lot of old rags. My grandfather spent many hours working on that activity. When the cans were perfectly clean, he used them to store screws, nails, nuts and bolts properly organized in his garage. Being thrifty and organized were characteristics in people of my grandfather s generation; however, some of the things that they did seemed absurd to me at that time. In the same way, it is probably that my daughters find it senseless some things that I and people of my generation do. Nevertheless, it is not about judging one generation to the other. We need to understand that no generation is better or worse than another: simply, our behavior is different depending on the times and circumstances. Respecting each other and learning from our differences, we will be able to live in harmony as a big multigenerational family. Each generation has certain characteristics and values with which the members of it can identify. • 31. Assembling In The Iliad Ethan Medley English 2332 877 Professor Brooks 28 September 2017 Assembling in The Iliad (Holding councils of war or holding assemblies) Every great war in history has been determined, to some extent, by the powerful strategies executed by one party of the war. These strategies , most of the time, are not the brainchild of one individual, but more or less a group of people collaborating toward one strategy effective enough to turn the tides of battle. The most effective way for important leaders to voice their opinions for their next endeavor is achieved through the use of assemblies. Assemblies were very important to the armies in the Trojan War, as both sides had great power, meaning that cunning strategy would be the winning factor for one of the parties involved in the Trojan War. However, assemblies held during the Trojan War were more one sided toward the authoritative figures rather than a true collaboration between leaders and wise men. These assemblies follow a simple pattern: a leader calls out to the army to form an assembly when he sees it fit; then, the leaders and wise men then collaborate and voice their opinions on the matter at hand; and finally, the figure with the highest authority in the assembly decides what to do next as a result of the assembly. The assembly begins with an important leader calling for one when he sees it fit to form one. For example, an assembly was called by Achilles due to concerns from the plague in Book 1; it was revealed that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Osteoarthritis Site Analysis Analysis of osteoarthritis for each site was conducted in order to determine whether any of the joint changes in the skeletal remains might indicate changes in physical activity levels before and after colonization. To better ascertain the differences in the colonial eras, the prehistoric burials from Corinth and Apollonia were separated from the colonial periods. Even though every site has individuals of indeterminate sex only a comparison between those individuals for whom sex could be reasonably estimated was done. It is instructive to examine the occurrence of osteoarthritis on both the right and left sides of the body. My initial assessment showed that there are no appreciable differences by side of any given joint; therefore, only the left side is used for analysis (Table 4). Osteoarthritis of the vertebrae obviously does not have a side, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthritis is simply counted as a single joint. • 37. Embryonic Stem Cell Research And Ethics Introduction Stem cell research and engineering is a widely disputed topic that often divides people in science, ethics, and religion. In order to fully understand the controversy surrounding this area of scientific research and discovery, one must be informed as to what stem cells are. In the article, Human Embryonic Stem Cells: Research, Ethics and Policy , stem cells are described as primitive cells with the capacity to divide and give rise to more identical stem cells or to specialize and from specific cells of somatic tissues (Wert 672). Essentially, stem cells can potentially provide an unlimited supply of cells that could form some or all body cells. This ability to transform into different types or all types of cells depends of the type of stem cell, which can be divided into embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells (Bishop 1). Embryonic stem cells are extracted from preimplantation embryos and are pluripotent, meaning they possess the ability to form cells of all tissues in the adult human body. Adult stem cells, however, are limited to what tissues they can transform into. Currently, our research and understanding of embryonic cells is finite, yet it is evident that the development of this research could have a significant impact on our treatment of various diseases, disorders, and cancers. Conflicting opinions and scrutiny surrounding the ethics of embryonic stem cell research delay the development and expansion of embryonic stem cell research. Many who ...
