The Big Four Eu Institutions And How They Interact With...
It will be argued in detailed throughout this essay the primary roles of the big four EU institutions and
how they interact with each other. The known to us nowadays European Union rests its infrastructure
on the concrete foundations of various institutions. Institutions that as European citizens we ought to
be aware of and how exactly they operate and what their role and functions are.
Currently seven institutions hold dominion over the European Union. Four of them are considered to
be of greater value as those institutions hold the main executive and legislative omnipotent powers
among the European Union: The European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the
European Commission and the European Council.

On the grounds of supervisory powers the European parliament scrutinized all of EU institutions,
examining petitions of citizens of the European Union, questioning commission and council, and
lastly observes the elections. The European parliament powers do not stop here as it has a budgetary
role which grants them the right to approve the EU budget in long term.
In a like manner the Council of EU has also labelled itself as a legislative body. Along side with the
EP they co legislate laws for the EU. In accordance with the Article 16 (1) TEU The council shall,
jointly with the European Parliament, exercise legislative and budgetary functions. It shall carry out
policy making and coordinating functions as laid down in the Treaties Generally the council has to
make a voting to approve all commissions legislative acts before they become laws and this happens
in compliance with the European Parliament. Furthermore government ministers from each EU
member state which embody the council meet to adopt, amend laws and coordinate policies of the EU
member states, commonly they represent national interest.
Another key institution that must be mentioned due to its colossal importance in this essay is the
institution of the European Commission which it is supported by many academics on their thesis that
it has the most power of all EU institutions. Even though I can clearly understand the reason

Artificial Insemination and the Rights of Women, Men, and...
Women have adamantly battled for political and social reproductive rights since, in particular artificial
insemination, have become mainstream phenomena in the recent decade with a focus on rights of
women. In fact, doctors have experimented with the procedure for nearly a century. However, with the
women¹s liberation movement of the 1970s, physician assisted and self insemination has become more
and more popular among heterosexual career women and lesbians.
The Origins of Artificial Insemination

Women, usually healthy and fertile, enlist the help of physicians because they do not have access to
the one element that will yield them a child. And so, doctors prescribe a cure of sorts sperm. The
procedure allows women increased power to regulate the reproductive processes of their bodies.
Ironically, artificial insemination was not created as a method of empowerment for women. Rather for
men. Male scientists and researchers developed the technology for eugenic purposes, not to alleviate
the pressures of alternative lifestyles of women. That is, to improve the human species.
With the onset of research in genetics in the beginning of the twentieth century, scientists entertained
theories of quality control with respect to human reproduction. Scientists such as Francis Crick and
Dr. William Shockley believed that the growth rate of the population was increasing too rapidly, and
most importantly certain unfavorable demographic clusters were increasing. In short, the wrong
classes and races were reproducing with more frequency than was desired by these men. They hoped
that future progeny would be of the same superior caliber as themselves. To yield this, they proposed
schemes to tax children; to provide cash incentives for sterilization; to license women for the number
of children they may bear and men for the sperm they may deposit in seed banks;

World War I s Responsibility for the Collapse of the...
World War I s Responsibility for the Collapse of the Provisional Government in 1917 The Provisional
Government assumed control of Russia following the abdication of the Tsar Nicholas II. It only had a
brief period in power lasting about seven months. Historians have disputed the main cause for its
failure, Marxist historians, such as John Reed, have rewarded it to the Bolshevik s effective
propaganda machine, whilst more revisionist historians, such as Christopher Read, take a more
encompassing position on the issue. They lay blame at a range of factors such as the First World War
and the dual authority in relation to the Petrograd Soviet. Revisionist historians have also benefited
from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many historians and critics at the time opposed such advancements. Maxim Gorky had this to say
about the changes during the Provisional Government, I am a social democrat, but I am saying and
will continue to say, that the time has not come for socialist style reforms. The new government had
inherited not a state but its ruins. [2] This clearly shows that the Provisional Government s actions
only worsened the situation. Thus, its downfall was made only easier by the changes it made and did
not help consolidate its power. Therefore, though the Great War did present fundamental problems the
government did nothing to better their own situation. The policies of the Provisional Government
came from its Prime Minister, whom the historians have had varying views on. What is known as the
Provisional Government was actually four successive governments that became more left orientated as
it changed. However, the question and this investigation are only concerned with the last of these
governments in which Alexander Kerensky was the leader or Prime Minister. The weakening of the
Provisional Government because of its reforms and policies was a result of its incumbents and hence
its collapse may partly be blamed on its leadership. Historians vary on the importance of Kerensky,
some say he was simply invited into the government as a figure head to create a

History Of The Axeman Of New Orleans
The Axeman of New Orleans terrorized a city and got away with it. In the early nineteen hundreds, a
serial killer took the lives of multiple New Orleanians. Italian gangsters in New Orleans did not
usually attack women or children. New Orleans had heavy mob activity. The Axeman was not an act
of organized crime, but an association with the mafia.
On Thursday, May 23, 1918, the Axeman claimed his first victims. A door panel was removed to gain
access into the homes of the victims, although, he did use a window to get into Sarah Laumann s
room. A wooden chisel and an axe were left behind at every crime scene. Witnesses reported a large,
dark figure as the suspect, but could not identify the actual person. Many New Orleanians believed the

I Did Not Expect Too Much From Carr s Essay
Initially, I did not expect too much from Carr s essay. The title appeared to give away most of what he
would say. In some ways, that was correct, while in others it was not. After having read it in full, Carr
s essay gives me an impression of someone who is both sad about and sort of resigned to the changes
and progressions occurring in technology. He sees it as something negative, but he admits in places
that these progressions have certain benefits as well. That is not the point of the essay, though. He
slights the advantages he addresses with the warning that that boon comes at a price. Following up,
Carr talks about his changing reading habits. He insists that as a child he read often and went on to
blame the internet for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The essay itself, however, begins and ends with references to a scene toward the end of 2001: A Space
Odyssey in which Dave goes about calmly, coldly disconnecting the computer HAL s memory
controls, effectively resetting the machine. He depicts this scene as a hard and emotionless human
more or less murdering a pleading and terrified machine. Carr sees this as a warning to the viewers of
losing parts of themselves that make them inherently human to machines. However, Carr neglects a
part of today s internet use that has had a great impact: the ease with which people can now share their
experiences, thoughts, and creations. For example, many think of art as something inherently human,
and it is now far easier than ever for people to share their creative pursuits and find new inspiration.
When people use drawing tablets and sound software and photo editors, these things progress more.
The plethora of social media accounts dedicated to creative pursuits influences the way many use
computers. Another use to consider would be social media such as Instagram and Facebook. It has
millions of users, many of whom share their daily experiences. Human thoughts, experiences, and
creations are archived in massive amounts on the internet, and this type of use helps develop its
progression in a significant way. While today s technology is less advanced than that shown in 2001, I
think it is worth noting the ways the internet helps people become more

The Simple Soul In The Phaedo And The Republic
Within this essay, I am going to argue that the simple soul is a more plausible conception than the idea
of multiplicity within the soul within Plato s work. This is due to the multiplicity of the soul resting on
a circular argument of Plato s ideal city which in turn rests back upon his idea of the tripartite soul.
However, it can also be argued that neither conceptions of the soul are plausible due to them both
relying on Plato s theory of the Forms. Throughout Plato s works of the Phaedo and the Republic, his
account for the soul is conflicting as Plato s two accounts cannot be reconciled. I will also refer to
Plato s work in the Phaedrus to aid my explanation of the multiplicity within the soul.
Simplicity of the soul
Plato s theory of the simplicity of the soul is seen in the Phaedo. Through the mouthpiece of Socrates,
Plato argues for a simple soul which only has one true aim. He states that the soul only seeks truth and
that all other senses and experiences are merely distractions through the soul being embodied the soul
reasons best when none of these senses troubles it, neither hearing nor sight, nor pain nor pleasure, but
when it is most by itself, taking leave of the body and as far as possible having no contact or
association with it in its search for reality. (Plato, 1997, §65c). The simple soul can only aim to grasp
the truth of reality which it gets closer to as man becomes closer to death. This is why, in Plato s
opinion, a philosopher in particular can

Business 601 Reflection Essay
A Reflection of Business 601: Global Management Perspective A reflection of Business 601: Global
Management Perspective The business world today is more global than ever before. Every business
from manufacturing to fast food and coffee has gone to a global format. The market place that
businesses must compete for market share in is no longer just a domestic one, the competition they
will face is in the foreign market as well as in the digital market place. With the new ever changing
business world, the business plans that organizations utilize, must be updated and continuously
improved to ensure the organization is changing with the demand of the market. The global business
has to have an effective business plan that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then Starbucks focused on their global dominance just like McDonalds had previously. They let their
focus slide from keeping their current customers and only worrying about gaining new customers.
These missteps and the refocus of McDonalds, led to Starbucks losing the market share they had won
over, plus some that wasn t McDonalds before. The mistakes of McDonalds were realized and the
business plan was adapted. Starbucks really lost more in the end, because they made the same
mistakes they had benefited from earlier. Benchmarking is a good form of learning and growing as
your organization develops them into a global performer. When an organization is growing and
expanding, they will run into issues where they have successes and failures alike. The organization has
to take these and develop best practices to utilize going forward. These best practices or benchmarks
are what allows the organization to grow and what makes the organization grow. When mistakes are
made, these need to be documented and then a plan put into place that then passes the information
along, so that the organization as a whole learns from the mistakes of their predecessors.
Benchmarking and best practices can really save the organization time, resources and money. When a
best practice is established, you show where the mistake caused the organization a loss and then you

Explaining A Sociological Imagination
Before I begin to explain what a sociological imagination is I would like to explain when this physical
theory started and tell you that it was once called something else before that. Sociology was
discovered in the early 17th century in The Age of Enlighten Where the scholars wanted a more
scientific theory then just basing everything off of things being super natural. Sociology was once
called social physics by August Comte. Sociological imagination is when you take all your personal
beliefs and opinions on things out of the equation and truly try to understand the situation for what it
actually is and grasp that there are going to be certain scenarios that happen that are not always self
inflicting.

The Impact Of Friendship On People s Lives
The Impact of Friendship
Close social relationships have a dramatic affect on people s lives. Specifically, friendships are
amazing in that each one is different yet all friendships share several qualities. Although friendships
are a very positive thing to have, they also come with costs. Friendships have always intrigued me, so
I found it fascinating to learn about the impact they have and it gave me a new perspective to look at
my own friendships.
Friendships can be very different from one another but they all have recognizable characteristics.
Floyd (2011) defines these characteristics of friendship as voluntary, between peers, governed by
rules, differ by sex, and have a lifespan. People become friends with one another out of choice, ...

These rules can vary from behavior to the feelings one has about their friend. Criticizing a friend
behind their back or being dishonest are widely looked down upon. These rules are unchanged by
differences in sex but other aspects of the friendship differ. Floyd (2011) states that same sex friends
value different aspects of their friendships. Friendships between women tend to emphasize
conversation and emotional expressiveness. Men s friendships place more of a focus on shared
activities and interests according to Floyd (2011). I personally find this quite accurate to examples in
my life. On the other hand, opposite sex friendships are valuable as they allow both men and women
to see things from each other s perspectives. Floyd (2011) says that opposite sex friendships allow
men to be emotionally expressive and women to partake in shared activities. Many reasons can
prevent an opposite sex friendship from becoming a romantic relationship. A lack of physical
attraction, wanting to protect an existing friendship, and fear of rejection, are a few of the reasons
Floyd (2011) lists. The final characteristic is that friendships have lifespans. An unfortunate reality, but
as Floyd (2011) puts it, most friendships are initiated, maintained, and eventually many of them end.
Nagging, criticizing, abuse of alcohol and drugs, and hostile behaviors can lead to declining
friendships, which

Essay on Tibet
Tibet
800 years of political unrest (1244 2005)
The moulding of history for political gain is not something new. It has been going on for centuries,
since the time of the pharaohs to even the plight of the white population under Robert Mugabe.
I shall be highlighting the case of Tibetan suppression under communist China.
Basically Modern Chinese historians and authorities have tried to claim that historically Tibet falls
under Chinese sovereignty and thus should rightfully, and legally be run from Beijing, this is not true,
as I shall be explaining in my report.
The first modern (post 19th century) Chinese and Tibetan hostilities began as a result of British
involvement. In around 1984 China had strong links to Britain, ... Show more content on

Chinese authorities claim that Tibet was thus officially incorporated into the territory of China s Yuan
Dynasty (China White Paper, p3). Yet today none of the other countries once dominated by the
Mongols are oppressed by Beijing. And in reality Tibetans claim that they experienced more religious
freedom, resulting in Buddhism later becoming the official religion of the Mongol Empire.
Finally in the 15th century the native Ming Dynasty overthrew the Mongols. This, Chinese Historians
claim again, is evidence that China inherited control of Tibet from the Mongols, yet there is no
evidence to suggest the Tibet was in anyway controlled by China, and thus wasn t related to it at all.
Further more during this time Tibet and China existed, as completely separate and fully individual
states, although there was communication between the two there is no evidence to point to the idea
that this had any major importance.
The Chinese feel they have another right, although even by looking from their point of view it is hard
to see the reasoning behind it. Simply, they feel that they once again earned the right to ownership of
Tibet, on the grounds that when the Manchu Armies took control of both China and Tibet, Tibet fell
under a much sticker role. This is the simple chronology of it. In 1644, Manchu armies seized China
and established the new Qing Dynasty. Over the

The Perception Of A Child With Adhd In Don Delillo s White...
You re thirteen years old. Back in middle school (aka the good ol days ) when your teacher lectures on
and on about dangling modifiers or equilateral triangles. Naturally, you lose interest and begin to look
around at all of the colorful laminated posters stuck to the wall with that blue goop. Your mind begins
to wander, you shake your leg to keep you alert with the occasional pencil drumstick solo. To some,
this is an example of how we all acted as a child. To others, this is an example of a child with ADHD.
We have all sat in that 13 year old s shoes and many of us still experience the symptoms of an active

that is completely natural. This social norm is suddenly viewed as an issue that needs fixing needs ...

Satirical novels such as Delillo s piece act as a medium to reflect on the defects of America at that
time and how similar those events are to current issues. I aim to contribute to the growing
conversation of the faults of America s quick paced lifestyle and how the media caters to that. While I
understand that these illnesses have the ability to actually hinder someone s day to day life, I believe
that doctors and parents are all too quick to diagnose and seek medical treatment. My plan of action is
to show the benefits of stopping to take a deep breath, listening to your children, and observing that
this behavior stems from a deeper issue: fear. In Don Delillo s White Noise, a constant fear of chronic
illness and dependency on medication mimics our society s increasingly hypochondriacal behaviors,
which leads to a withstanding social commentary piece, acting as a warning to current and future

Analysis Of Henry Louis Jr s The Trials Of Phillis Wheatley
Phillis Wheatley, once coined the mother of black literature, now, deemed an imitation is the sole
focus of Henry Louis Jr s, The Trials of Phillis Wheatley, in regards to the many perspectives and
intrepations pertaining to her poetic works. In closing of the novel, in which he evaluates the various
opinions offered, Gates suggests that readers should ...learn to read Wheatley anew, unblinkered by the
anxieties of her time and ours. That s the only way to let Phillis Wheatley take the stand. The
challenge isn t to read white or read black; it is to read (Gates 89). Such is the stance he assumes and

As does the former, Gate s quote, Jefferson reaches these conclusions, in some part, from his reading
of Phillis Wheatley s poetry. Yes, he conceded, she may very well have written these works, but they

peculiar oestrum of the poet. By shifting the terms of authenticity from the very possibility of her
authorship to the quality of her authorship Jefferson indicated her for a failure of a higher form of
authenticity (Gates 49) demonstrates, Gates , blatant objectivity. There is something underlying that is
imperative to understanding just how impartial Gates is. Gates, himself is an African American man,
yet he offers evidence that is unpopular, contradicts his beliefs and may well offend him, still, his
opinions are (especially in his case) free of bias. This impartiality is indicated by phrases such as, he
conceded, Jefferson indicated, and, in his view. Authenticity, is an important word as it is essential to
Jefferson s argument, which would subsequently make Wheatley s authorship creditable. Yet again,
Gates objectivity is shown as he presents the argument, For wheatley s critics, her sacrifices, nor
courage, her humiliations, her trials would never be enough. And so we have come full circle: the sort
of racist suspicious and anxieties that attended Wheatley s writing are now directed at forms of black

As language develops over the years languages some suffer the times and become a thing of the past.
There are approximately six thousand spoken languages that are facing extinction (Kravitz). I question

remembering. I had the incredible opportunity to speaking with my great grandmother Ivy Mest (who

languages means preserving diversity, culture and a sense of community. Imagine how devastating it
would be to lose Hispanic culture or an Asian culture. I think that it is a part of human nature to be
different and also identify with certain groups it is what sets us apart. The fact that globally we are a

possible. A sample would be when George first proposed the plan that they shall live on their own
farm making their own money Candy thought George was crazy. But when George showed that he
was serious Candy joined right on board. Showing that It took some time for Candy to agree because
he thought about how it would affect his life when George just went on the same road till his dream
was fulfilled.
In the end there are some similarities and some differences just how it was meant to be. Nothing will
ever be the exact same no matter what you are comparing. Anything like comparing Coke to Pepsi or
flat screen and a tube TV nothing will ever be the exact same. In the end I guess that the characters are
more alike than different or the opposite depending on how you are viewing them. Overall though
Candy and George look like they will have a bright future together no matter on how alike or how
different they

Why Did Whelan Kill Thomas D Arcy Mcgee
Everybody has an opinion, guilty or not guilty. James Patrick Whelan murdered Thomas D Arcy
McGee, a father of confederation and the enemy . This is my opinion for many reasons, such as
powerful evidence, suspicious behavior, and Whelan s anger towards McGee. These all suggest guilt.
The proven facts and evidence indicate that James Patrick Whelan killed Thomas D Arcy McGee.
Investigators suggest that Whelan s gun that was found in his hotel room was shot around April 7th,
1868, the day of McGee s death, which means that Whelan could have used it to kill him. Also,
forensic scientists have proven that the bullet that was inside McGee s head matched those Whelan
owned. In addition, Jean Baptiste Lacroix, a lumberjack, and the only eyewitness claimed that he saw
Whelan shoot McGee. Seeing is believing. He saw it, and we need to believe it. With all of this
evidence, innocence is doubtful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since McGee left the brotherhood, Whelan had been stalking him. Detective Reuban Wade at the
Grand Trunk Railroad said that Whelan was talking about killing McGee. A prisoner and guard
claimed that Whelan bragged about murdering McGee. Lastly, in his hotel room, investigators have
found newspapers that talked about the Fenians hatred towards Britain. Clearly, Whelan supported
terrorism this suspicious behavior that Whelan showed, suggests that he is guilty, as does his motive.
Anger, because of it, Whelan had the motive to kill Thomas D Arcy McGee. He was furious with
McGee for being a traitor and for calling the Fenians Political Leprosy . Before McGee had left the
Fenians, they fought together like brothers, but all of Whelan s respect for McGee was gone when he
left the brotherhood and publicly offended the Fenians. Not only did he leave the brotherhood, he also
betrayed Whelan by supporting Britain. Every time McGee spoke against the Fenians Whelan s anger
must have grown. He had a motive and he acted on

Personal Statement Of Purpose For Computer Science
Damian Fernandes
Statement of Purpose
T.U.M MS (Informatik) Admissions
I am lucky. My fascination with computer began at an early age, ever since the time I got my first
desktop, true it began with playing several computer games at first. But then as time went by and I
moved to high school, I got allured by the computer science concepts and fundamentals that
elucidated the workings of a computer.
I was brought up in a family that not only allowed me my intellectual pursuits but helped foster them.
I received lot of support from my aunt and my mother, since they were the first ones to understand the
strengths in my skillset. I grew up with the notion that Computer Science is of utmost importance to us
and will continue doing so in the far future. I strongly believe the forthcoming of mankind will be
strongly influenced by the technology offered by computer science. So at an early age, I began
associating myself with fathoming the depths of the information technology. While in middle school, I
became an active member of the computer club, where we were taught the basics of programming and
using certain soft wares in daily life. The following year, I took part in the National Cyber Olympiad

Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Radiation
Nuclear Radiation Good or Bad? Nuclear Radiation Nuclear radiation is the process by which an
unstable isotope loses energy. There are three types of radiation, alpha, beta and gamma. Alpha is the
weakest, gamma is the strongest (can pass through almost anything) Dangerous radiation Alpha
radiation can be highly dangerous when ingested whereas gamma radiation can inflict damage
externally with its ability to pass through almost any surface. Inhaling alpha radiation can cause lung
cancer. The most common way of inhaling alpha radiation is through tobacco smoke. If water
becomes contaminated by alpha radiation, if consumed, can cause kidney and chromosol damage.
Gamma radiation can cause radiation poising. Side effects of this could be nausea, vomiting, bleeding,
mouth sores, nausea, diarrhea and loss of hair. Xenon 133 Atomic number 54 Xenon 133 emits
ionizing particles to lose energy and become stable. It emits beta radiation and a small amount of
gamma radiation when it decays. After decaying is becomes the stable isotope Cesium 133. It has a
half life of 5.243 days. Xenon 133 is primarily used for imaging the lungs and assessing pulmonary
function. The gas doesn t occur in the body nor is used by the body, the gas passes through the cell
membranes in the human body and has a better solubility in body fats than in blood or plasma. If you
had a sample of Xenon 133 in your pocket then you might experience coughing, difficulty with
swallowing, dizziness, fast

The International Monetary Fund And The World Bank Were
The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank were formed at the Britton Woods Conference
in New Hampshire, United States, in 1944. They were designed as the mainstay of the post war global
economic order. The World Bank s focus is the provision of long term loans to support development
projects. The IMF concentrates on providing loans to stabilize countries with short term financial
crises
Critics of the World Bank and IMF have argued that policies implemented by African Countries,
intended to control inflation and generate foreign exchange to help pay off the IMF debts, often result
in increased unemployment, poverty and economic polarization thereby impeding sustainable
development.

In 1980, Zimbabwe after being liberated, the government vigorously invested in all sectors of the
economy (health, education, mining, universal access to services but this in turn led to the government
budget deficits in the mid 1980s and forced the government to look for ways to finance its excessive
expenditure. Zimbabwe was then persuaded to implement ESAP. The programme was to run from
year 1991 to 1995.
ESAP was a package with instruments to be adhered to, and these were the components:
1. Reduction of government expenditure through privatization
2. Removing wage controls
3. Removing controls on exchange rates
4. Removing subsidies on basic goods
5. Removal of price control measures
The basis of these components was to let the market control the economy and reduce government bills
thereby cutting the expenditure. Although the neo liberalists favor the IMF and WB reform packages,
the ESAP were to a larger extent disastrous in the different sectors of the economy ranging from
people s lives, health, education, agriculture and the macro and micro economy in Zimbabwe.
According to Dhliwayo (2001), the decision to want a major economic reform programs in Zimbabwe
dates back to the beginning of the 1980s, with the main aim of attracting aid from international donors
so that the country might close both the resource and trade gaps in order to meet its economic targets.

Ramona Flowers Character Analysis

There was a time in my life where all I wanted to be was Ramona Flowers. I thought she was so cool
in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World with her colored hair, her pithy remarks, and her success at attracting
romantic partners (which is all I wanted as a twelve year old girl.) However, upon revisiting the
concept of Ramona Flowers, I realized how annoying and awful the concept of her is. (Granted, I am
basing this characterization of the movie and not the comics. I m sure they are different characters.)
The concept of Ramona Flowers is completely subservient to the male desires. She completely
represents the pseudo strong female who all the guys desperately want, but can t have; however, in
actuality, Ramona Flowers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Green s debut novel Looking for Alaska and his later novel, Paper Towns, directly points to the
flaws with this sort of adulation and infantilization of mental disorders. In Looking for Alaska, Pudge
is in love (see: infatuated) with the idea of Alaska: a mysterious, rebellious teenage girl. However,
throughout the novel, Green constantly points to Alaska s depressive and suicidal tendencies:
smoking, drinking excessively, attention through sex, and other self destructive behaviors. Even
though to the reader these obvious red flags flash violently on every page, Pudge transforms Alaska
into this perfect manic pixie dream girl, instead of a depressed teenager who desperately needs help.
In the end, this ignorance towards Alaska s obvious problems leads to her suicide. Furthermore, in
Paper Towns, Q becomes obsessed with Margo s cool, don t give a crap attitude and willingness to
have wild (and illegal) adventures. This perceived notion of the perfect manic pixie dream girl led him
to search for her all over the place; yet, when he finds her, he becomes disillusioned to her facade and
she s her for who she really is: inconsiderate and afraid. The same serves for Summer in 500 Days of
Summer and Penny Lane in Almost Famous: the male character becomes obsessed with their quirks
and instabilities, but fail to see the troubled person inside. When they

Investigating The National Hockey League Scandal And Its...
In todays fast paced society, White Collar Crimes are no longer overlooked. Rather, these crimes have
become the target for special task forces. They may occur once a month, once a year, or even once a
day. Some examples of these crimes include bribery, Ponzi schemes, insider trading, embezzlement,
cybercrime, copyright infringement, money laundering, identity theft, and forgery. (4*) White Collar
Crimes are usually directly associated with some sort of corruption. In this essay I will be taking a
current National Hockey League scandal and relating it to white collar crime, specifically
embezzlement and corrupt influence. To begin, I will provide a brief explanation of corruption,
embezzlement and the power of a corrupt influence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, you can offer compensation for the request which you are, more or less, forcing this victim
into doing. On the other hand, you can imply, and sometimes enforce, a threat. This threat does not
necessarily mean physical, however, physically threatening someone is a type of extortion. Another
threat enforced through corruption could be loss of finances. Having a corrupt influence on someone,
usually implies, it comes from a place of fear. In some situations, this implication is the furthest from
the truth. Corrupt influence can also occur through affection; as we grow relationships with certain
people around us we start to trust their opinion. Clearly this person has earned this trust over time as
you have developed a relationship with them, however, under certain circumstances, this person could
use the trust you have empowered them with for their personal gain. Embezzlement may occur in
many different circumstances. Sometimes, it can cost a person to lose millions of dollars to another
individual or something as simple as a small, every day product. Embezzlement may be defined by
fraudulent conversion of another s property or money by a person to whom it has been entrusted. (4*)

Uniform Crime Statistics
Although crime has been around for ages, we only started collecting crime data around the 1930 s.
Crime statistics show a lot about a country, state, county, etc. Crime can be linked to the environment,
behavior of others, and personal experiences, it all depends on how the person deals with the hand
they are dealt. Crime data is collected from three sources, which are uniform crime reports (UCR),
national incident based reporting system (NIBRS), and national crime victimization survey (NCVS).
Originally crime data began in the summer of 1870, when congress passed the law creating the
department of justice. When the department of justice was created, their duties was to make reports to

Today most all states participate in crime statistics. Years ago, not every state would turn in their crime
reports, which effected the total percentage of crimes in the nation. The Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI) and Bureau of Justice Statistics report crime statistics. Police stations from all over
the U.S. send their reports of crimes to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Justice
Statistics. For example, a police station will report to the FBI that they had twenty one reports of
robberies for the current year. The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) is a report that is used for the more
serious crimes, such as forcible rape, murder, arson, etc. The UCR is calculated three different ways.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation are specific about the number of how many incidences were
reported for a certain crime. Also, when the FBI calculates the percentages of the crime reports for a
crime and compares the crime rates and an examination is completed to tell if the crime rate has
increased or decreased for the current year. The Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) also calculates the
number of crimes out of one hundred thousand people. Another report the FBI creates is the National
Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS), this report is an elaborated version of the UCR. It takes all
the serious crimes from the Uniform Crime Reports and breaks them down into certain categories that
creates more vivid reports. These reports are very well detailed and give more information about the
crimes, like how many people were arrested. The National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS)
is collected from police stations around the United States. The NIBRS is a report of basically incident
reports. The Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) and National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS)
reports are the most used reports to view crime statistics in the United

his passing the world changed for the better when slave ships were no longer permitted in England.
Once this happened, ripples spread throughout the world, leading many other countries to abolish
slavery including the United States of America. Equiano exhibited no bitterness or anger, revealing a
moral superiority over his tormentors that spoke volumes about the potential of the human spirit. He in
his very actions and way of treating others proved that he was in fact completely correct.

Equiano impacted the whole entire genre of slave writings. He was a major example in encouraging
slaves to stand up and fight with the use of language. Olaudah s left behind his memories to the people
of today, showing that slavery is wrong. Equiano proved to everyone that a black man could be just as

Different Types Of Nerve Cells
Nerve Cells
Nerve cells are crucial to all living organisms because they serve as a messenger in the different parts
of the body. There are three different types of nerve cells (neurons) sensory neurons, motor neurons,
and association neurons. All three of these types come together in order to allow the body to function
properly. Without neurons the body wouldn t have the ability to know when there is illumination or
warmth in or outside the body, know how to perform functions in the other parts of the body (such as
muscles),or have these two things work together to know what the other is doing.
Sensory neurons have importance because they allow your body to have the five physical senses,

One important sensory neuron that everyone is very familiar with is tastebuds. Tastebuds are
extremely sensitive neurons that have a built in pH detector. That is why the more acidic something is
the more sour it taste and when sodium ions increase this is what makes food have a salty taste.
Sensory neurons are crucial to the body for maintaining homeostasis by providing organisms with
skills that we need.
The second kind of neuron that is also very important to organisms is motor neurons. Motor neurons
are responsible for the movement of organisms. If our body didn t form motor neurons we wouldn t
have the ability to talk, eat, life, drink, walk, and any other kind of simple movements. According to
Daniel Liden, a freelance journalist, motor neurons directly or indirectly controls the contraction or
relaxation of muscles (Liden, para 1.) Motor neurons are also sometimes referred to as efferent
neurons. Motor neurons bring information made by the central nervous system to the different muscles
in the body. There are three different kinds of motor neurons. The three different kinds are somatic,
specific visceral, and general visceral. Somatic motor neurons are used for forming skeletal muscles
and movement in the body. Specific visceral motor neurons are important in vertebrates for the
movement of neck muscles and facial muscles. Specific visceral neurons are important to sea animals
for the movement of gills. The last kind of motor neurons, general visceral, are

Value Chain Analysis By Jim Riley
Jim Riley published study notes about value chain analysis and he teaches that value chain analysis
describes the activities that take place in a business and relates these activities to an analysis of the
competitive strength of the business. This paper includes comparing and contrasting two articles. The
first article is The 7 Steps of Software Development Case Study Chapter 1 but the second one is Value
Chain Analysis by Jim Riley. Also, these two articles will be applied to the company Pep Boys, which
I chose to do the value chain analysis to. Since I do not work yet, I chose Pep Boys because my close
friend works there as a vice president of marketing. There are seven traditional steps that can go bad in
a software development project but if you follow all these steps than your software project is going to
be in a better shape and it should not have that many crashes. The first step is preliminary
investigation or analysis, where software developers and project managers clarify the requirements to
project sponsors. Second is specification and requirements analysis, which involves taking the
requirements and describing them in a way meaningful to programmers. The third step is design or
architecture, which gets into more low level details. The next step is where the program is built, also
called as development or coding. The fifth step is testing and documentation, which makes sure that
the program functions as required and that the program s functionality is

The Colosseum s technical name is the Flavian Amphitheater, so called in praise of the emperor who
oversaw its creation. The Colosseum was begun in the year AD 72 and was still uncompleted at the
time of Vespasian s death in 79. He was succeeded by his elder son, Titus, who undertook the
completion of the Flavian Amphitheater. It was officially opened in AD 80 for the inaugural games.
Although the original name of this dynamic building was the Flavian Amphitheater, several centuries
after being built it was referred to as the Colosseum, a lasting title. The building received this
nickname from a statue that stood near the site of the arena. According to Pearson, the statue originally
was of Nero, but Vespasian changed the head of the statue to the sun god, Apollo. And it was this
colossus, with Apollo s head, that gave the arena its infamous name, the Colosseum.
The Colosseum was built in a valley found between the Esquiline, the Palatine, and the Caelian hills.
The spot chosen, where Nero s lake used to be, was interesting and made a bold statement. Where
Nero had built for his own pleasure, the Flavians built a massive structure for the public good.
The Colosseum was the largest amphitheater of the time period. It was a huge elliptical structure
consisting of four stories, over 150 feet high. It measured 620 X 513 feet. The enclosed oval arena

In trying to analyze the link between colonial rule and nationalist rule, one cannot discount the
influence of the past on the present. Analyzing nationalist actions and decisions without taking into
account how society got to that point, and the situation of society when power was transferred would
be asinine. The effects of colonization on various African countries through border setting and
defining ethnic groups, the morphing of ethnic group disputes into class based struggles, and the
stunting of economies through failure to diversify national economies is intrinsically linked to the
paths followed by leadership after attaining independence. Previous to colonial rule, African

Faced with the prospect of living in an internment or rehabilitation camp, they decided to voice their
displeasure through an armed uprising. During the struggle for independence, the natives had a
common cause of ridding themselves of colonial rule. Many were able to look past the divisions that
had taken hold in their communities and band together for a common cause. Once independence was
achieved, however, there was far from a consensus on how to proceed in ruling their countries. Prior
to colonization in Nigeria, ethnic divisions had already begun to give way to class divisions. While
colonial rule obviously did not introduce these divisions, it did exacerbate them in order to be used for
a political agenda. The Northern part of the country had already begun entrenching itself as the
merchant class at the expense of the Southern citizens. (Badru, 81 82). Throughout colonial rule, this
was reinforced and this allowed the Northerners to maintain political control and further their
accumulation of wealth. Once independence was achieved, the North was able to solidify their

Analyzing The Movie The Magnificent Seven
A good majority of us have seen Old westerns before. We ve grown to love and know them so well.
They are relics of how life was in the old west and even more show what we think the old west should
be life. The revitalized western movie The Magnificent Seven is only a remake that shows you
everything you love about a western movie, it does not reinvent or add anything special to the genre.
Usually in a remake movie with up to date actors and even better special effects and editing skills you
would think that it makes the movie better. I ve come to realize now that the old movies we ve all
come to love cannot be made with the same magic a second time. They were for their time and you
lose something when you remake it. For this movie the only thing significantly better was the camera
resolution. Everything else seems to be the same. Especially the epic final battle or in a western movie

Corporate Responsibility Of The Sarbanes Oxley Act
It is clear that the bringing about of the Sarbanes Oxley Act followed up one of the rougher times in
US corporate history. The public downfall of the large companies like Enron and WorldCom damaged
any trust in US corporations and it cost investors many billions of dollars. It even led to the
destruction of one of the largest accounting firms in the US, Arthur Anderson. Sarbanes Oxley Act
was the response that the government gave in hopes that by mandating that companies report honest,
accurate, and valuable financial records, it will renew investor s trust in public corporations (Stults,
Gregg). To grasp how Sarbanes Oxley affects information security, looking into two key sections can
be very insightful. Section 302, Corporate responsibility for financial reports , and section 404,
Management assessment of internal controls. Section 302 discusses the requirement of both the Chief
Financial Officer and the Chief Executive Officer must personally approve and certify the accuracy of
financial reports. They are also required to inspect and assess the effectiveness of internal operations
as it pertains to financial reporting. This is the section the clearly places the weight of honest and
accurate financial records on the shoulders of senior level management, clearly stating that Chief
Financial Officers and Chief Executive Officers can now face criminal charges (The Sarbanes Oxley

I am reminded of a non denominational mega church in Chicago that is comprised of the upper class
of people and all kinds of modern facilities that to me personally gave an impression of snobbery and
a non church experience. It seemed it was a public event that was for the sake of fun. This further
implicates the opinion that a church experience does not mean one is having fun, but worshipping God
with one s heart and mind that needs to be fully involved. A worship experience must be a true
experience of interacting with God and being in the presence of God, which at the same time, does not
mean that churches should discontinue acts of hospitality and pastoral love. Last year, at a
denominational church, I came to experience a service that was most unfriendly, unwelcoming, and
questioned if that church offered a concert or an experience of worshipping God. Israel Galindo
delineates the concept of church programs as reflective of who they are, or what is the feel that they
receive at a certain church. He also mentions assessing the pastor s relationship with the church. This
has implications for church culture within churches and the relationship between the clergy

Nixon And The Watergate Scandal
Patriotism means to stand by the country not by the president. Though everyone agrees that Colson
will be sent to jail if he caught they disagree whether he should have worked for Nixon in the
Watergate scandal. Colson was offered a position to help Nixon with special interactions such as
getting rid of the men who released Pentagon Papers and help Nixon win the 2nd election. Charles
Colson should not have agreed to work for Nixon with the Watergate scandal for three reasons. He has
a family he would lose, there would be punishment, and he would jeopardize national security.
The first reason Charles Colson should not have agreed to work for Nixon with the Watergate scandal
is because Colson would lose his family. He would be removed

Summary Of Abortion By Anne Sexton
In Anne Sexton s poem The Abortion , she uses literary devices to reflect her heart wrenching decision
of whether or not to abort one of her children, which reflects the style of confessional poetry because
she is sharing her personal feelings and experiences. Anne Sexton was a famous poet of confessional
poetry, where the poets write about their private experiences with feelings about death, trauma, and
depression in their lives. Anne Sexton wrote from the point of view of an upper middle class woman.
She had two children, and the stress of having them, gave her life long depression. Sexton was sent to
a psychiatric hospital after the birth of her second child. The Abortion displays all of Sexton s feelings
that she has about her abortion.
Sexton sets off the poem [driving] south (Sexton 5). She is describing her trip to go and get her child
aborted, and she sees the road sunken like a gray washboard (9). The road is extremely rough and
bumpy, which is often an unpleasant surface to drive on. The negative connotation of her car ride there
is making her trip start off horribly and she has not even gotten to the worst part of it yet. The gray
description of the road makes it seem lifeless, which reflects how Sexton is feeling on her trip. She
also sees grass as bristly and stout as chives (14). Chives are a tall green plant that look like grass,
which she describes as bristly . Indicating that the grass is rough and scratchy. This gives it a negative
connotation

Cosmetics And Its Impact On The Makeup Industry
Purchasing the most expensive and popular cosmetic brand might seem as the best option to protect
oneself from imperfections but, is the product s price determined by popularity or safety regulations?
Cosmetics have transformed the industries to make themselves an essential part of consumer s daily
routine. Cosmetics were first used by tribes as a form of camouflage to disguise themselves from
enemies and predators. Mud, ashes and natural dyes, were used to hide themselves from predators and
to create a sense of fear in the pray (Goering). During the Renaissance period, cosmetics lost its
demand as a protection tool and innovating in the makeup industry. Women began making their own
instructions on how to produce products based on households items such as oatmeals, charcoal and
berries. Soon they adapted a system that allowed them to make more of the same products and then
create profits by selling them as a package product (Goering). Currently in the Twenty First Century
beauty products are considered essential in women s life as a key to their physical transformation.
From morning makeup routine to late time dinners, women tend to use on average at least ten to
fifteen products a day (Averett). Cosmetics have expanded from raw materials used for camouflage to
a crucial necessity to in order achieve an emotional realization through the physical appearance.
Although cosmetics have helped enhance the natural appearance, due to the manufacturing of the toxic

They Call Him Mr. Gacy Essay
There are numerous portraits, perspectives, and analyses of the life and deeds of American serial killer
John Wayne Gacy, who is thought to have sexually assaulted and murdered 32 boys between 1976 and
his arrest in December 1978 (Cahill, 1978; Gacy, 1989). This profile of Gacy compiles a birth to death
chronology of events and activities that may lend insight to the personality of a habitual liar, model
citizen, and serial murderer.
Born to Marion Elaine Robinson Gacy and John Hanely Gacy on St. Patrick s Day in 1942, John
Wayne Gacy was the second of three children. The alcoholic Gacy, Sr. was both physically and
verbally abusive towards the entire family. His special interest in John, Jr. was the litany that he was

In September of 1964 he married his co worker Marilynn Myers whose father owned a franchise of
Kentucky Fried Chicken. Shortly after his wedding John?s father in law offered him a job. John and
his new wife then moved to Iowa. John was a tireless worker, but maintained an active community
involvement through the Jaycees.
During this period, John and his wife invited employees to their home for drinks and television.
Hidden in the game room were homosexual videos, alcohol, and marijuana. One particular visit to
their home, John approached employee Westphal to solicit a blowjob. Although Westphal declined the
offer, John would joke with him that if he ever caught Westphal with his wife, he would owe John that
blowjob. During a subsequent visit, Westphal became inebriated at John?s house and stayed the night
in the guest room. After Westphal began to doze off, Marilynn entered the room and joined Westphal
in bed. John then entered the room to remind Westphal of his obligation. Fearing the loss of his job,
Westphal fulfilled John?s desires. After this incident rumors of John?s sexual preferences began to
spread.
John?s interests in young boys increased and in the spring of 1968 he was indicted by a grand jury in
Black Hawk County for allegedly committing sodomy with a teenage boy named Mark Miller. Mark
told the courts that John had tricked him into being handcuffed and had then violently raped him.

The Effect Of Sleep Deprivation On Seizure
A study on the effect of sleep deprivation on seizure in epilepsy disorder and its relation to signaling
bathways in the brain
People with seizure disorder usually have problems with their sleep. Daytime sleepiness, lack of
energy and drowsiness are frequently seen in epileptic patients. Baseline electrical activity has been
vastly studied in epilepsy. Seizures can be either partial or generalized. Based on the area of the brain
triggered by epileptic waves, any kind of motor or sensory abnormalities can happen in partial seizure.
If the whole brain cortex is triggered, generalized tonic clonic seizure can happen, which is the classic
shaking of the body and loss of consciousness. Generalized seizures may be followed by a post ictal
period in which the patient will be heavily drowsy and may experience memory loss for a short
amount of time. It has been shown that epileptic patients can reach threshold potentials more readily
than the normal population and lack of sleep can be a trigger for causing a seizure [1]. The circadian
rhythm, synchronizing role of thalamo cortical networks, and reduced intracortical inhibition have
been suggested as underlying physiologic factors elicited by sleep deprivation that make a patient
more prone to seizure activity.
The abnormal progress from resting potential to a wild epileptic wave can be triggered by sleep
deprivation as lack of sleep alters the neural resting potential.
Seizure occurrence is found to be related to the circadian

Aristocratic families enjoyed considerable wealth, especially in the Attica area, where Athenians
discovered silver. In Athens, as in other Greek city states, political power was in the hands of several
large aristocratic families which controlled large areas of Attica (Agathe, n.d). Political office was
linked to land property and military professionalism, and most of the Attica s people had no role in the
political life. Appointment to the supreme offices of state went by birth and wealth, and they were held
at first for life, and afterward for a term of ten years (Agathe, n.d, p. 2). While Aristocratic families

Afghanistan Under the Rule of the Musahiban Family Essay
After the fall of Amanullah Khan, Habibullah Khan Kalakani ruled for a short term and then the
Musahiban family ruled over Afghanistan from 1929 1978. The Musahiban family halted the social
changes that Amanullah Khan wanted to make which moved it away from developing the economy,
state building and modernization. The economy was the same as it was at the turn of the century. The
Musahiban family followed the policy of encapsulated modernization. They only focused on the
centers the countryside areas remained untouched because of the fear of rising revolts. Under the

Also, people like Habibullah Kalakani and Ghulam Nabi Charkhi, who were potential political threat
to the royal family, were liquidated by Nadir Shah. During this period, Afghanistan enjoyed peace and
constancy. Nadir s policies of national gradualism and positive neutrality and friendship were rather
effective, and enabled him to establish control over the domestic environment.
One of the most essential domestic successes during Musahiban was the Economic development. The
emergence of a merchant class for the first time in Afghanistan under Majed Zabulli s leadership was
one of those successes that helped Afghanistan to modernize its economy. He putted lots of efforts and
contributions to influence people by Royal patronage and the monopoly system to attract the bulk of
the private capital in the country between 1933 and 1946, and to invest in some 50 trading and
industrial companies Before the creation of a merchant class in Afghanistan, the economy was heavily
based on un modernized agriculture. The creation of De Afghanistan Bank in 1931 was another

The Importance Of Prenatal Care
The Importance of Prenatal Care Pregnancy can either be the most wonderful time in a woman s life
or the scariest and quite often it is both at the same time. One of the first things that most women do
when they become pregnant or even before they become pregnant is focus on their prenatal care. This
time in the womb is very important in a baby s development and taking care of the body is something
that is extremely beneficial to the wellbeing of a newborn. Prenatal care is probably one of the most
important parts of pregnancy in general. There are many things that women can do in order to get the
prenatal care that is needed in order to prevent diseases of the mother that can lead to birth defects of
the child and long term problems for the mother as well. The first thing that should be done when
becoming pregnant is to visit a doctor. The doctor will administer a blood test to ensure the pregnancy
and get started on prenatal care. They will ask about the patient s medical history and gynecological
history as well as run tests. Throughout the pregnancy, visits to the doctor are vital. They are spread
out at first and toward the end of the pregnancy will be more frequent. During these visits patients can
ask questions and voice concerns they have with the pregnancy as well as being able to see
ultrasounds and running tests to make sure everything is okay with the child and mother. According to
an article in the European Journal of Public Health, Timely and accurate

Women, usually healthy and fertile, enlist the help of physicians because they do not have access to the one element that will yield them a child. And so, doctors prescribe a cure of sorts sperm. The procedure allows women increased power to regulate the reproductive processes of their bodies. Ironically, artificial insemination was not created as a method of empowerment for women. Rather for men. Male scientists and researchers developed the technology for eugenic purposes, not to alleviate the pressures of alternative lifestyles of women. That is, to improve the human species. With the onset of research in genetics in the beginning of the twentieth century, scientists entertained theories of quality control with respect to human reproduction. Scientists such as Francis Crick and Dr. William Shockley believed that the growth rate of the population was increasing too rapidly, and most importantly certain unfavorable demographic clusters were increasing. In short, the wrong classes and races were reproducing with more frequency than was desired by these men. They hoped that future progeny would be of the same superior caliber as themselves. To yield this, they proposed schemes to tax children; to provide cash incentives for sterilization; to license women for the number of children they may bear and men for the sperm they may deposit in seed banks; ... World War I s Responsibility for the Collapse of the Provisional Government in 1917 The Provisional Government assumed control of Russia following the abdication of the Tsar Nicholas II. It only had a brief period in power lasting about seven months. Historians have disputed the main cause for its failure, Marxist historians, such as John Reed, have rewarded it to the Bolshevik s effective propaganda machine, whilst more revisionist historians, such as Christopher Read, take a more encompassing position on the issue. Maxim Gorky had this to say about the changes during the Provisional Government, I am a social democrat, but I am saying and will continue to say, that the time has not come for socialist style reforms. The new government had inherited not a state but its ruins. [2] This clearly shows that the Provisional Government s actions only worsened the situation. Thus, its downfall was made only easier by the changes it made and did not help consolidate its power. Therefore, though the Great War did present fundamental problems the government did nothing to better their own situation. The policies of the Provisional Government came from its Prime Minister, whom the historians have had varying views on. What is known as the Provisional Government was actually four successive governments that became more left orientated as it changed. However, the question and this investigation are only concerned with the last of these governments in which Alexander Kerensky was the leader or Prime Minister. The weakening of the Provisional Government because of its reforms and policies was a result of its incumbents and hence its collapse may partly be blamed on its leadership. In some ways, that was correct, while in others it was not. After having read it in full, Carr s essay gives me an impression of someone who is both sad about and sort of resigned to the changes and progressions occurring in technology. He sees it as something negative, but he admits in places that these progressions have certain benefits as well. That is not the point of the essay, though. Carr sees this as a warning to the viewers of losing parts of themselves that make them inherently human to machines. However, Carr neglects a part of today s internet use that has had a great impact: the ease with which people can now share their experiences, thoughts, and creations. For example, many think of art as something inherently human, and it is now far easier than ever for people to share their creative pursuits and find new inspiration. When people use drawing tablets and sound software and photo editors, these things progress more. The plethora of social media accounts dedicated to creative pursuits influences the way many use computers. Another use to consider would be social media such as Instagram and Facebook. It has millions of users, many of whom share their daily experiences. • 10. The Simple Soul In The Phaedo And The Republic Within this essay, I am going to argue that the simple soul is a more plausible conception than the idea of multiplicity within the soul within Plato s work. This is due to the multiplicity of the soul resting on a circular argument of Plato s ideal city which in turn rests back upon his idea of the tripartite soul. However, it can also be argued that neither conceptions of the soul are plausible due to them both relying on Plato s theory of the Forms. Throughout Plato s works of the Phaedo and the Republic, his account for the soul is conflicting as Plato s two accounts cannot be reconciled. I will also refer to Plato s work in the Phaedrus to aid my explanation of the multiplicity within the soul. Simplicity of the soul Plato s theory of the simplicity of the soul is seen in the Phaedo. Through the mouthpiece of Socrates, Plato argues for a simple soul which only has one true aim. He states that the soul only seeks truth and that all other senses and experiences are merely distractions through the soul being embodied the soul reasons best when none of these senses troubles it, neither hearing nor sight, nor pain nor pleasure, but when it is most by itself, taking leave of the body and as far as possible having no contact or association with it in its search for reality. (Plato, 1997, §65c). The simple soul can only aim to grasp the truth of reality which it gets closer to as man becomes closer to death. Men s friendships place more of a focus on shared activities and interests according to Floyd (2011). I personally find this quite accurate to examples in my life. On the other hand, opposite sex friendships are valuable as they allow both men and women to see things from each other s perspectives. Floyd (2011) says that opposite sex friendships allow men to be emotionally expressive and women to partake in shared activities. Many reasons can prevent an opposite sex friendship from becoming a romantic relationship. A lack of physical attraction, wanting to protect an existing friendship, and fear of rejection, are a few of the reasons Floyd (2011) lists. The final characteristic is that friendships have lifespans. An unfortunate reality, but as Floyd (2011) puts it, most friendships are initiated, maintained, and eventually many of them end. Finally in the 15th century the native Ming Dynasty overthrew the Mongols. This, Chinese Historians claim again, is evidence that China inherited control of Tibet from the Mongols, yet there is no evidence to suggest the Tibet was in anyway controlled by China, and thus wasn t related to it at all. There are three types of radiation, alpha, beta and gamma. Alpha is the weakest, gamma is the strongest (can pass through almost anything) Dangerous radiation Alpha radiation can be highly dangerous when ingested whereas gamma radiation can inflict damage externally with its ability to pass through almost any surface. Inhaling alpha radiation can cause lung cancer. The most common way of inhaling alpha radiation is through tobacco smoke. If water becomes contaminated by alpha radiation, if consumed, can cause kidney and chromosol damage. Gamma radiation can cause radiation poising. Side effects of this could be nausea, vomiting, bleeding, mouth sores, nausea, diarrhea and loss of hair. Zimbabwe was then persuaded to implement ESAP. The programme was to run from year 1991 to 1995. ESAP was a package with instruments to be adhered to, and these were the components: 1. Reduction of government expenditure through privatization 2. Removing wage controls 3. Removing controls on exchange rates 4. Removing subsidies on basic goods 5. Removal of price control measures The basis of these components was to let the market control the economy and reduce government bills thereby cutting the expenditure. However, upon revisiting the concept of Ramona Flowers, I realized how annoying and awful the concept of her is. (Granted, I am basing this characterization of the movie and not the comics. John Green s debut novel Looking for Alaska and his later novel, Paper Towns, directly points to the flaws with this sort of adulation and infantilization of mental disorders. In Looking for Alaska, Pudge is in love (see: infatuated) with the idea of Alaska: a mysterious, rebellious teenage girl. However, throughout the novel, Green constantly points to Alaska s depressive and suicidal tendencies: smoking, drinking excessively, attention through sex, and other self destructive behaviors. Even though to the reader these obvious red flags flash violently on every page, Pudge transforms Alaska into this perfect manic pixie dream girl, instead of a depressed teenager who desperately needs help. In the end, this ignorance towards Alaska s obvious problems leads to her suicide. Furthermore, in Paper Towns, Q becomes obsessed with Margo s cool, don t give a crap attitude and willingness to have wild (and illegal) adventures. This perceived notion of the perfect manic pixie dream girl led him to search for her all over the place; yet, when he finds her, he becomes disillusioned to her facade and she s her for who she really is: inconsiderate and afraid. Having a corrupt influence on someone, usually implies, it comes from a place of fear. In some situations, this implication is the furthest from the truth. Corrupt influence can also occur through affection; as we grow relationships with certain people around us we start to trust their opinion. Without neurons the body wouldn t have the ability to know when there is illumination or warmth in or outside the body, know how to perform functions in the other parts of the body (such as muscles),or have these two things work together to know what the other is doing. He was succeeded by his elder son, Titus, who undertook the completion of the Flavian Amphitheater. It was officially opened in AD 80 for the inaugural games. Although the original name of this dynamic building was the Flavian Amphitheater, several centuries after being built it was referred to as the Colosseum, a lasting title. The building received this nickname from a statue that stood near the site of the arena. According to Pearson, the statue originally was of Nero, but Vespasian changed the head of the statue to the sun god, Apollo. And it was this colossus, with Apollo s head, that gave the arena its infamous name, the Colosseum. Once independence was achieved, however, there was far from a consensus on how to proceed in ruling their countries. Prior to colonization in Nigeria, ethnic divisions had already begun to give way to class divisions. The Northern part of the country had already begun entrenching itself as the merchant class at the expense of the Southern citizens. (Badru, 81 82). Sarbanes Oxley Act was the response that the government gave in hopes that by mandating that companies report honest, accurate, and valuable financial records, it will renew investor s trust in public corporations (Stults, Gregg). To grasp how Sarbanes Oxley affects information security, looking into two key sections can be very insightful. Anne Sexton wrote from the point of view of an upper middle class woman. She had two children, and the stress of having them, gave her life long depression. Daytime sleepiness, lack of energy and drowsiness are frequently seen in epileptic patients. Baseline electrical activity has been vastly studied in epilepsy. Seizures can be either partial or generalized. Based on the area of the brain triggered by epileptic waves, any kind of motor or sensory abnormalities can happen in partial seizure. If the whole brain cortex is triggered, generalized tonic clonic seizure can happen, which is the classic shaking of the body and loss of consciousness. Generalized seizures may be followed by a post ictal period in which the patient will be heavily drowsy and may experience memory loss for a short amount of time. It has been shown that epileptic patients can reach threshold potentials more readily than the normal population and lack of sleep can be a trigger for causing a seizure [1]. The circadian rhythm, synchronizing role of thalamo cortical networks, and reduced intracortical inhibition have been suggested as underlying physiologic factors elicited by sleep deprivation that make a patient more prone to seizure activity. The abnormal progress from resting potential to a wild epileptic wave can be triggered by sleep deprivation as lack of sleep alters the neural resting potential. Seizure occurrence is found to be related to the circadian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
