On May 31st, 2014 a twelve year old girl named Payton Leutner was stabbed 19 times by two of her
twelve year old friends that were trying to please a fictional character called Slender Man. Leutner s
friends lured her into a Waukesha park, stabbed her and left her for dead. If the two twelve year old
girls were convicted in juvenile court, they would stay in jail until they are 18 then, when released
back into their communities, they would have intense supervision and services. However, if they got
convicted as adults they would face up to 65 year in prison with a combination of prison and extended
supervision under the Department of Corrections.
The two young girls convicted of the crime were 13 at the time of the trial. Even though the two
young girls were juveniles they got tried as adults because they seemed to plan the attack months in
advance, and it made them seem to dangerous and unsafe in a juvenile court. One of the girls was
diagnosed with early onset schizophrenia which led to them being tried in adult court. If juvenile is
defined as someone who committed a crime under the age of 18, who can you justify having them in a
court designed for adult offenders.
Some juvenile cases get transferred to adult criminal court through a process called a waiver. A waiver
is when a judge waives the protections that juvenile court provides. Usually when cases are wavered
they are more serious crimes, or they are juveniles who have perviously committed crimes. Although
being tried in adult court gives a juvenile more protection, it has distinct disadvantages too, which
including the potential for a more severe sentence and the possibility of serving time in an adult
correctional facility. Some factors that might help a case get a waiver is, the juvenile is charged with a
serious offense, the juvenile has a lengthy record, or the minor is older. There are many reasons why

Abstract:
Background: proper rectal cancer staging is a vital step in management and prognosis of the disease
depending on the tumour, nodal state and distant metastasis (TNM). Sufficient number of lymph nodes
detected in postoperative TME specimen is a corner stone in staging. Lymph node number detected
should not be less than 12 lymph nodes.
Material and methods: 37 Egyptian patients diagnosed with rectal carcinoma were included in this
retrospective study. 28 patients received neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy while the remaining 9
cases did not. Total mesorectal excision was done by the same colorectal surgeon. The specimens of
TME were examined to retrieve the lymph nodes. Results: lymph nodes harvested in the neoadjuvant
group, maximum number was 23, minimum number was 1 while the median was 7. In the group
which did not receive neoadjuvant therapy the maximum number was 34, minimum number was 11
while the median was 11. The P value was statistical significant less than 0.000.
Conclusion: lymph nodes number detected in TME specimen post neoadjuvant rectal cancer decreased
markedly so it is not the standard number of LN (12). A new staging system should be developed for
the prognosis.

It is hard to read beyond the third paragraph of Young Goodman Brown without finding allegory and
symbolism. The opening seems realistic Goodman Brown, a young Puritan, leaves his home in
colonial Salem to take an overnight trip but his wife s name, Faith, immediately suggests a symbolic
reading. Before long, Brown s walk into the dream like forest seems like an allegorical trip into evil.
The idea that Hawthorne shows by this trip is that people are attracted to sin through temptation which

During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the sugar islands played a very important role for the
British government. They saw these colonies as an extremely beneficial mercantile society that could
gross them a great deal of wealth. However, for the colonists living on these islands it was an intense
struggle between enormous fortune and a premature death. Richard Dunn, author of Sugar and Slaves:
The Rise of the Planter Class in the English West Indies, 1624 1713, decided to shed light on these
seldom mentioned groups of settlers, who chose the Caribbean islands over mainland America. The
first settlers of the islands being buccaneers, along with their short lifespan, coupled with the
monoculture of the islands and a severe disparity between the rich and poor, created a distinct culture,
in what Dunn describes as a classically proportioned sugar society (Dunn 165).
Dunn begins his book in 1624, with the English gaining a foothold on the tiny island of St.
Christopher in the Caribbean. From that solitary outpost emerged a cohesive and potent master class
of tobacco and sugar planters that spread throughout the Caribbean (46), especially in Barbados and
Jamaica. Dunn refers to this society as a classically proportioned sugar society (165). What this means
is that there were few very wealthy sugar planters who owned and managed large masses of slaves.

The Dred Scott vs. Sanford case was a huge decision in the history of our country. Dred Scott was a
slave who was owned by the Sanford family. The Sanford family moved Scott to a Wisconsin territory,
where slavery was prohibited under the Missouri Compromise, where he lived for 4 years working on
and off to raise money for him and his family s freedom. Later on, the Sanford family moved him
back to St. Louis where Scott tried to buy him and his family freedom but was denied by the Sanford

extended period of time making him legally free. The state court declared him free but the wages that

When presented with this project during class, my group and I knew it would be a challenge, but knew
with the right topic we could easily overcome the challenge. We thought long and hard about what
topic we wanted to research. It had to be something that was interesting, impactful and well known.
We thought of controversial topics, headliner news stories, and topics with familiarity. In the end, we
chose to use British Petroleum s (BP) Oil Spill in the Gulf Coast during 2010. The BP Oil Spill was a
crisis and the BP company responded to the event with socially responsible leadership style. We
ultimately chose it because it was interesting. When it came to research, we all tried to find different
articles on our own to get some general knowledge on the spill. On the first day, we tried to compare
our findings to make sure everyone had a basic understanding of the BP Oil Spill. Then, we all did our
research individually. When we met back up we shared about our findings and shared our resources.
Then Matt created a PowerPoint and shared it with all of us and included all the awesome links that he

Results: lymph nodes harvested in the neoadjuvant group, maximum number was 23, minimum number was 1 while the median was 7. In the group which did not receive neoadjuvant therapy the maximum number was 34, minimum number was 11 while the median was 11. The P value was statistical significant less than 0.000. Conclusion: lymph nodes number detected in TME specimen post neoadjuvant rectal cancer decreased markedly so it is not the standard number of LN (12).   • 43. Dred Scott Vs. Sanford Case The Dred Scott vs. Sanford case was a huge decision in the history of our country. Dred Scott was a slave who was owned by the Sanford family. The Sanford family moved Scott to a Wisconsin territory, where slavery was prohibited under the Missouri Compromise, where he lived for 4 years working on and off to raise money for him and his family s freedom. Later on, the Sanford family moved him back to St. Louis where Scott tried to buy him and his family freedom but was denied by the Sanford family. Scott sued the Sanford s and made a case that he and his family lived in a free area for an extended period of time making him legally free. The state court declared him free but the wages that Scott had were withheld by the Sanford family who then appealed the decision to make Scott free to the Missouri Court. The Missouri Court overturned the decision to make Scott free and ruled in favor of the Sanford s. Scott then sued the Sanford s again for physical abuse and the court would not rule on it because they said Scott was regarded as a slave in Missouri territory. Scott then took the case to the U.S Supreme Court where they wouldn t take the case because Scott was or had been a slave. Justice Taney declared that federal courts could only hear cases brought to them by citizens of the U.S and that Scott was not a citizen because his ancestors were imported from another country and they were slaves.   • 45. The Bp Oil Spill Crisis When presented with this project during class, my group and I knew it would be a challenge, but knew with the right topic we could easily overcome the challenge. We thought long and hard about what topic we wanted to research. It had to be something that was interesting, impactful and well known. We thought of controversial topics, headliner news stories, and topics with familiarity. In the end, we chose to use British Petroleum s (BP) Oil Spill in the Gulf Coast during 2010. The BP Oil Spill was a crisis and the BP company responded to the event with socially responsible leadership style. We ultimately chose it because it was interesting. When it came to research, we all tried to find different articles on our own to get some general knowledge on the spill. On the first day, we tried to compare our findings to make sure everyone had a basic understanding of the BP Oil Spill. Then, we all did our research individually. When we met back up we shared about our findings and shared our resources. Then Matt created a PowerPoint and shared it with all of us and included all the awesome links that he found. Several of the links he included were also discovered by other members of the group.
