Essay about The Language of Java
The Language of Java What is Java? Java, in it s simplest definition, is a dynamic computer
application that can run a program to accomplish a task. Java runs in all sorts of things in the average
person s life; things such as car stereo systems, televisions, cell phone applications, websites, and
more. But, where did it come from, and how does it work, and how has it impacted our lives today?
Java was first created by Patrick Naughton, Mike Sheridan, and James Gosling in 1994. However,
they started writing the code for it four years earlier in 1990. They originally started making it to try
and make a new and more practical way of computing. Originally, Java was called Oak , and it was
being made for the Green Project in Sun ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The different types were called Java 2 Platform: Standard Edition, which was made for stand alone
developers with desktop workstations and anything related, Java 2 Platform: Enterprise Edition, which
was created for an enterprise that was very dependent on their server systems, and Java Platform 2:
Micro Edition, which was for consumer devices like phones, stereos, etc (oracle.com). Next year, co
founder and Chief executive of Apple Inc. Steve Jobs announces that each new version of the Mac OS
X will contain Java 2 Standard Edition. In 2004, Sun Microsystems takes a big step and considers
making Java an open source application. At this point, official Java projects must go through certain
process, and if altered, it must be approved. Even though at first James Gosling, Sun Microsystem
vice president Rob Gingell, and Redmonk Analyst James Governor all disagree to allow Java to be
open sourced, it does in 2006 (oracle.com). In 2005, the tenth year of Java, the object oriented
language has gone from it s original web animation purpose to doing much more. At the time, Java has
driven more than $100 billion dollars of revenue a year for companies, has more than 4.5 million
developers, over 2.5 billion Java enabled devices, and an estimated 708 million Java handsets
worldwide (oracle.com). In 2007, JavaFX is released. This makes it easier to build web applications
and devices. Things change dramatically in 2008 when Blu Ray begins to use Java in their devices.

The Learning And Teaching Strategies
Many great learning and teaching strategies are presented in the text, How we learn... of which a few
learning tactics, namely discrimination, perceptual learning, chunking and interleaving will be briefly
discussed as to how they have relevance in my context. To begin we will examine discrimination, the
brain s ability to detect minute differences in sights, sounds and textures. [Such is considered]...one of
the first steps we take in making sense of the world (Carey, 2012, p.180). This learning technique
occurs often during HT training as students detect differences in breathing patterns of those being
treated, l see slight tremors or body twitches that accompanies release of stagnate energy and
perceived smoothness of textures in the human energy field (Mentgen Bulbrook, 2011). Next,
perceptual learning occurs as the brain takes notice of subtle differences in techniques, such as hand
positions that seem the same but may not have the same therapeutic effect. Another learning strategy
that can be useful in HT training is chunking which is the simple act of grouping bits and pieces of
information together to make a whole (or at minimal a segment) of a concept. For example words
stringed together create sentences and sentences which are connected formulate paragraph. In the case
of HT chunking is necessary as a series of hand movements and/or places equate to a specific healing
technique. The final relevant strategy from the text is that if interleaving, a cognitive science

The Manic Depressive Movie Summary
In the documentary, The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive, English comedic actor Stephen Fry

the development of sense of self of people diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. This paper will reflect on

Career Profile Of The Transition From School
I. INTRODUCTION
The transition from school to work can be challenging for students. It is our job to help you identify
your goal, acquire job searching skills and get prepare for the outside world. Janice Tester (Career
advisor, McGill University) Janice Tester has been working as a Career Advisor for McGill Career
planning Service Office (CaPS) for over 17 years. In 2014, I started to serve as a peer educator in
CaPS office and Janice became my supervisor since then. Despite the fact that we worked closely
together in the past two years, I never get a chance to know her accomplishments in the job and how
she perceive her work. This became my initial motivation to interview her. Another reason is that,
given the importance of career advising service in McGill, its performance is difficult to evaluate. A
throughout analysis on this position can be helpful for its performance improvement. Several
expectations for this position were developed during my working in CaPS. Firstly, I expected career
advisors to be business orientated, with backgrounds in human resource management. Secondly, since
their works involve mostly one on one consulting with students, interactions with colleagues are
limited and unnecessary. Thirdly, I expected that, career advisors enjoy a high level of initiative.
Instead of taking commands directly from their supervisor, they have the

The And Prevention Of Juvenile Delinquency
Juveniles in the justice system is an issue relevant not only to people in the criminal justice system but
to society in general. There have been a number of studies done that link serious behavior problems in
children to adult criminal conduct. In more recent years, there has been more research done regarding
the causes and prevention of juvenile delinquency. The Department of Juvenile Justice lists 3 broad
categories with many subcategories to help us understand what contributes to juvenile delinquency
(CITE). These categories are listed as Individual, social, and community factors. Similarly, Dr. Alida
V. Merlo, at Indiana University of Pennsylvania states that in recent history, the juvenile justice system
has moved from a more punitive approach to juvenile justice to more prevention and treatment
oriented approach. (CITE). This is a necessary change because as research begins to identify risk
factors that may lead a child into the juvenile justice system, it is important to treat the juvenile
accordingly. We would not treat a delinquent minor that has been a victim of maltreatment or abuse
the same way we treat a child that has outside influences in the community that played a role in their
delinquency.
While we established that the individual, social, and community risk factors could be signs that a child
is on their way to delinquency, it does not make it a certainty. Therefore, it is important that when I
child shows signs of these risk factors, they are not

Decisions in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken Essay
Decisions in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
Throughout our lives we are faced with a number of important decisions, decisions that determine an
unseen future. The choices, though often virtually identical, lead to different destinies and often leave
us asking what if? There are not always signs telling us the way to go or the choice to make; we must
find out what lies ahead for ourselves. In his The Road Not Taken, Robert Frost relates to the reader
such a choice, symbolic, perhaps of any major decision in life. The traveler in Frost s poem must
blindly decide between two similar paths, and this decision greatly affects his life thereafter.
In the opening stanza, Frost takes the reader into a yellow wood, setting the ... Show more content on

The traveler, unable to see what lies ahead, turns his attention to what he can see, only to find it just as
mysterious.
To begin the second stanza, the traveler turns back to what lies immediately before him, trying to
evaluate the second road. In reading this stanza it is important to remember the poem is being narrated
after the fact. The narrator is giving feelings he had at the time along with the knowledge he has now.
Because neither path has an obvious advantage, the traveler makes himself believe the second road
was grassy and wanted wear even though the passing there had worn them about the same. As we
often do, the traveler conjures up a reason to do something, even though there is no logical
explanation for doing it. The path appears as if it wanted wear, drawing the narrator in. The narrator
realizes now his past compulsion and sees that neither path had any better claim.
Even though the narrator has decided on the second path, he kept the first for another day. The traveler
wants to take the first road some day to find out how his life could have been. Even with this
compelling sense of wonder, the narrator knows how way leads on to way and that he hasn t enough
time to change every past decision in order to lead a different life. In this third stanza, the traveler
finally goes on his way, but, like most would, he takes along a nagging wonder.

The Garden of Eden
The Garden of Eden is a sacred place to many people. This is a place that may or not actually exist,
and if it is a real place it has not been confirmed. If the Garden of Eden was ever located it would be a
place worth visiting.
The Origins The origins of the Garden of Eden come from the book of Genesis in the Old Testament
of the Bible. The word Eden means delight in Hebrew probably derives from the Akkadian word
edinu. Edinu is believed to derive from the Sumerian term E.DIN which means plain or steppe. The
connection may be coincidental, although E.DIN is known to have been used by the Sumerians to

Paradise in Persian means royal garden or hunting park. And the Garden of Righteousness appears in
Jewish mythology and is said to have be beautiful and glorious in the beginning and it will be
beautiful and glorious in the end.
The Comparison
Creation myths across cultures have several obvious similarities and differences. There is substantial
importance in the larger ideas, such as gender, the role of the human beings, and the outcome of the
creation. I find it fascinating that many of the mythical stories from around the world have told a story
where a God floods the earth. I think the flood stories in each myth may be a link between them.
Creation myths concern our ancestors and gods of nature; the earth, the sky, the sun, the moon, and the
stars. They are supernatural explanations of human origin and they help explain what humans could
not explain to answers question about the creation of the earth and man that could be passed on for
generations. Our culture and history would not be the same without the mythical place that surround
the stories of our creation.
Conclusion
The stories of mythology in each different culture have a sacred meaning to the people of that culture.
Just as the stories have meanings so do the places the story surrounds. There are different types of
sacred destinations, some may be similar some could be completely different from one another.
Regardless of their differences they are joined by the elements

Ethical Dilemmas In The Workplace Essay
Ethical Dilemmas in the Workplace
As a manager, you are the role model for staff. You set the standards, adhere to guidelines, and
exemplify what you expect staff to model. By doing so, you are establishing and sustaining an
organizational culture of ethics and integrity, which is the backbone of all successful endeavors.
However, even the best structured organizations face ethical dilemmas in the workplace. It is how
management recognizes and addresses these occurrences that will either set them and their team up for
success or for failure. One of the biggest hurtles management can overcome is to be aware of their
surroundings because when management fails to notice and act, it is an ethical failure (Bazerman
Sezer, 2016, para. 5). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clark (2017) points out that studies have shown that employees from the baby boomer generation
believe that the younger generations lack good work ethics and are slackers, thus inhibiting
opportunities for collaboration within the team. Management must be mindfully aware of the potential
for conflicts when setting up teams of diverse ages and delegating responsibilities accordingly to
ensure more inclusion and possibly eliminate conflicts from occurring in the first place (LaMontagne,
2016).
Bullying and other negative behaviors can also cause substantial problems. Employees can be made to
feel inferior to another coworker or even you as the manager. They may be ridiculed, teased, or
withstand having their work continually criticized, causing them to feel isolated and insignificant
(Wilson Nagy, 2017). According to Wilson and Nagy (2017), employees who are bullied tend to take
more sick leave, may suffer from depression, feel insecure, and can experience long lasting, negative
health effects. To prevent this from occurring, management must continuously be cognizant of how
they communicate internally and externally, as well as how staff relates with one another. By not
doing so, the organization could lose dedicated, hard working employees, as well as stake holders and
clients. In addition, Clark (2017) suggests that understanding of the relationship between bullying and
personality dynamics enables organizations to integrate these findings into policies and procedures

Huckleberry Finn Confederate
Would Huck Finn Grow up to be a Confederate? As one of the most iconic American literary
characters, does Huckleberry Finn have a racist mindset? In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by
Mark Twain, Huckleberry Finn despite his apparent affection for his escaped black friend Jim, is racist
and a product of his environment. This is seen through the language he uses, his condescending
attitude towards Jim, and his demonstrated beliefs of white supremacy.
To start things off, Huckleberry Finn uses strong, hateful language to slaves and all African Americans
in general. When Jim is introduced Huck describes him as Miss Watson s big nigger, named Jim...
(p.4). Huck clearly sees the need to address Jim as a black man before he even gets to his name.
Demonstrating that Huck sees a difference between blacks and whites, he says, Betsy (this was a
nigger woman)... (p.96). It is not singular to how he views Jim, Huck refers to all black people in the
same derogatory fashion, with racial slurs and racist language.
Secondly, Huckleberry constantly talks to Jim as if he was older than him, when in actuality, Jim is
much older than he is. At the point in the story when Jim tells Huck he ran away Huck responds Jim
(p.43)! Huck is almost scolding Jim for running off which isn t quite right because Jim is older than

Doris Day History Dbq Analysis
In the 1950s, postwar we saw a huge effort for the reconstruction of families. The roles of each person
in the family had a purpose. The roles were specific and to stray from it would not have been good for
the family image. Women were the homemakers who waited on their families every need. While this
trend was growing another trend opposing it grew as well. We lived in a conservative time but many
women did not always fall into the homemaker category. Not all women were married. Not all women
had the family so new trends started to pop up. Beauty pageants, Barbie s and Marilyn Monroe were
some of the biggest and or sexiest trends to come about. The sex appeal of women changed during this
era but icons made a huge difference. They have molded what we are today and what women have
evolved into. Doris Day was what an independent woman was supposed to be like. She gave that
image but she was not married and she did have a sex appeal to her that was not common. The other
three icons broke that mold but Doris Day created the gateway for these icons.
Beauty pageants were made to bring everyone together. Like the Super Bowl and the Emmys, the
contest has become part of America s mythological consciousness, a point of pride and societal
longing. (Ronnie D. Lankford, 1999 2005). The beauty of the 51 individuals wasn t a bad thing either
especially since the women were running around practically naked. The process of beautiful women

Ineffective Argument in Jessica Statsky s Essay, Children...
Jessica Statsky, in her essay, Children need to Play, Not Compete attempts to refute the common belief
that organized sports are good for children. She sees organized sports not as healthy pass times for
children, but as onerous tasks that children do not truly enjoy. She also notes that not only are
organized sports not enjoyable for children, they may cause irreparable harm to the children, both
emotionally and physically. In her thesis statement, Statsky states, When overzealous parents and
coaches impose adult standards on children s sports, the result can be activities that are neither
satisfying nor beneficial to children (627). While this statement is strong, her defense of it is weak.
One of the assumptions Statsky makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children who play these games want to win. Winning may not be the most important reason for
playing a game, but children do not play to lose, either. They are elated when they win and either
somber, angry or good humored when they lose, just as adults are. Statsky then makes another faulty
assumption. She writes Winning and losing may be an inevitable part of adult life, but they should not
be part of childhood (Statsky 629). This assumes that winning and losing are already not part of
childhood. What child has ever gotten to full adulthood without ever knowing the disappointment of
loss or the joy of winning? To assume that children are psychologically incapable of handling
competition and the occasional inevitable loss is to severely underestimate children s abilities. Statsky
also uses the all too common phenomenon of the overzealous parent or coach to support her thesis.
She cites examples of parental brawls and coaches who rely on intimidation rather than good coaching
to push their teams to victory (Statsky 629 30). Statsky seems to be saying that parents and coaches
can behave in an obnoxious and even violent manner when they are part of organized sports for
children, and that this behavior is yet another indication that organized sports are not suitable for
children (629 30). This is a post hoc, ergo propter hoc fallacy. Though undoubtedly distressing for the
children involved in these games, adult misbehavior is not an indication

Shelley sThe Revolt Of Islam, And The French Revolution
After the glories of the Revolution had been washed away by the blood bath in France during the
terror and consequent events, the artistic stage of Europe came to be dominated by a spirit of gloom
and misanthropy , a culture of political despondency, an age of catastrophic despair. Shelley s The
Revolt of Islam, according to Cian Duffey, was an attempt to revise the cultural record surrounding
history s foremost political catastrophe, to relocate the apparent disaster of the revolution within a
long term systematic, natural economy of hope . Shelley does not just attempt to correct the failed
political confidences of his fellow artists like Byron, Wordsworth and Southey but challenges the
dominant catastrophist record of the Revolution in the public mind. Writing the Revolution, to quote
Duffy again, would therefore also mean righting the revolution: correcting public interpretation of
what had happened in France . By calling the French Revolution the master theme of the epoch in
which we live , and in turn writing about another failed attempt of a Revolution, Shelley seeks to trace
its locus in a Necessitarian/Deterministic notion of the natural history of politics, a history within
which the Napoleonic collapse of the Revolution is a natural part of the inevitable, the gradual and
long term process of political change. Dismissed by critics like Bloom and White as an abortive
allegorical epic which is thematically incoherent , The Revolt of Islam has not received

What Are The Arguments Against Pro Life Defense
Gillian Torchia
Mr. Lowry

7 February 2016 Defense for the Defenseless In 2008 there were 1.21 million abortions performed in
the United States. That is three thousand three hundred and twenty two abortions performed each day
(Guttmacher Institute). The topic of abortion has been a heavily talked about topic for the past few
years. There are two sides of the issue, pro life, which is against abortion and pro choice, which is for
abortion. Abortion should not be legal because it is a scientific procedure, it is currently supported by
law, and deprives fetuses of a future like ours. One of the main arguments against the pro life
movement is that the fetuses that are being removed are not humans and therefore do not have basic
rights. When human sperm penetrates a human ovum, a zygote is formed. A zygote is undeniably

Wi Fi For Education And Information Systems
Wi Fi for Education and Information Systems in Indian Rural Communities Throughout developing
nations, access to Wi Fi is limited to none. There are huge advantages to having access to the Internet
in various ways. An extremely important advantage to Wi Fi availability is so one can access the
Internet for information to educate their selves. The Internet is filled with information right at ones
fingertips that can be accessed at any time. Some countries such as India have numerous rural
communities that cannot access this information. Lack of Internet access in today s world can prove to
be detrimental to one s life. People who live in these communities throughout the world that do not

This is where the MDG Wi Fi for Education comes into play. Wi Fi for Education is a MDG discussed
in the book Designing A World That Works For All by Medard Gabel. This MDG discuss the strategy
to provide those living in the developing world with Internet access via affordable Wi Fi so that
education related material could be provided to them as it is to many throughout the world. According
to the book, Its goals include providing Internet access (email plus phone service) to 4 billion people,
living in the developing world, for $1/month and to use the Internet as a medium for education... This
is an important factor because people living in these rural communities would not be able to afford Wi
Fi when offered if it was not at an affordable rate. This is because most people living in these
communities live a life of poverty and simply cannot afford to pay substantial amounts for Internet
access. There also seems to be a few choices in setting up a Wi Fi infrastructure in developing nations,
including a solar powered communications station. Costs range from $500 per village to $1000 per
village to set up a Wi Fi infrastructure, to $2000 for a village wide solar powered communications
station. These numbers may seem to be quite affordable, but one must understand how many rural
villages in India have a need for this infrastructure. Prices can total up $638 million in order to

Portrayal Of The Jim Crow
The term Jim Crow originated from actor Thomas Rice, who dressed in blackface while pretending to
be a beggar. While acting he often imitated many of the mannerisms ascribed to African Americans.
Rice also created a song called Jump Jim Crow from a routine he saw performed by an elderly stable
man who was owned by Mr. Crow. Rice s portrayal of African American life became very popular
among individuals in the North and the South. The term Jim Crow soon became a common phrase in
American Language. Jim Crow laws became a way for Whites to keep free African Americans in their
place . Signs were placed in many public venues in order to keep African Americans and Whites
facilities separate.

Mary doesn t recall the negative effects that Jim Crow had on African Americans. Mary believed that
African Americans made the choice to endure some of the oppressions that they faced. For example,
Mary believed that African Americans chose to sit on the back of the bus. Additionally, Mary was
raised by an African American caretaker and she was surrounded by African American tenants on her
family s plantation. She also believed that the African Americans that worked on her families
plantation were poor but happy. Lastly, Mary believed that nothing bothered African Americans.
Mary s statement reflects a form of covert racism. This quote tends to depict the hardships of African
Americans as merely inconvenient aspects of everyday life. Instead of viewing Jim Crow laws as
inhumane, many Whites neglect to comprehend the damage that these laws had on Black families.
This quote also embodies the notion of the veil that Dubois described. African Americans had to hide
their true intentions behind a smile when in the presence of Whites. As a result, some Whites believe
that African Americans were accepting of the systematic racism that they

Control Mechanisms in the Workplace Essay
Control mechanisms in the workplace will assist in the planning development for customer
satisfaction and measurable milestones for improvement. Every business needs to develop and use
some kind of control mechanism to operate effectively and efficiently. This paper will explore four
different types of control mechanisms used by various departments at two corporations Dixon Sanitary

determine whether these mechanisms are effective by examining the positive and negative reactions to
these control mechanisms, and explain how these control mechanisms influenced the four functions of

For employees who have been with the company for at least six months would automatically receive

employees can lose points for tardiness, leaving earlier than the regular assigned work time, or not

Comparing Gilgamesh And Ovid s Metamorphoses
The Epic of Gilgamesh and Ovid s Metamorphoses depict the role of gods as the gods overpower,
lead, help, seduce, and explain how the world came about. Each god has a distinct purpose and job to
fulfill and he or she accomplishes these tasks by either helping or punishing someone. The Epic of
Gilgamesh and Ovid s Metamorphoses portray similarities such as unleashing the floods and why the
floods were brought upon the earth, however the gods also portray different personalities. In the two
stories, Cupid is the god of love and Ishtar is the goddess of love and warfare. Cupid and Ishtar

Summary Of 1 And 2 Kings By Jeremiah
The books of 1 and 2 Kings were written by Jeremiah who lived around 627 BC. The books were
written with messages of repentance, but these messages were not received well as his hometown
persecuted him. Kings was written to the Israelites trying to explain their fate. The book is more of a
warning because of the peoples abandonment of their faith, or apostasy. Jeremiah wants the people to
be restored to the days when David ruled Israel. The Old Testament in general is filled with prophecy
and preparation for the coming of Jesus. The book of 1 Kings gives this message in the form of
lessons, metaphors and other interpretations. In this passage Elijah went into a cave to take shelter
from the harsh weather. Elijah had just walked forty days and forty nights to the mountain of Horeb or
the mountain of God. He took this journey because he was fleeing Jezebel who was trying to have
Elijah murdered because of his faith. While in the cave Elijah heard the Lord speaking to him. The
Lord told Elijah to walk out of the cave after Elijah presented his worries to God. Elijah quickly
noticed that he could not hear the Lord in the wind or earthquake or fire. Rather, Elijah could hear the
Lord as a whispering sound. Elijah ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this use of metaphor can be seen in verse 11 of chapter 19 in 1 Kings, Then the LORD
said: Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD (1 Kings 19:11). To stand before the LORD
means, not literally to stand, but to lessen yourself in the presence of God. This metaphor means to
serve the Lord, or being a servant of God. Standing before God is being vulnerable, honest and open,
letting God work in you. This means allowing God in your life. For Elijah this was alluding to him
returning to Damascus and appointing new kings of Israel and Aram. In this passage God is telling
Elijah to trust in Him and have faith, that His plans are above all other

Natural Disasters Vs Earthquakes
Earthquakes and Hurricanes are two of the costliest natural disasters that have occurred around the
world. Both Japan and the United States have been unfortunate to experience many of both, with the
largest and costliest of each hitting both countries. While building codes continue to help with loss of
life and destruction of structures, there are still forces of nature that will destroy and damage buildings
regardless of the efforts that are made. With the cost of repairs increasing the destruction that can
happen with any major natural disaster will continue to increase repair costs. Both of these forms of
natural disasters will continue to impact both counties in the future with lessons learned with each
occurring natural disaster. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over 26 billion dollars in damages was caused from the hurricane. Noaa.gov goes on to state It is
estimated that 1,250,000 people evacuated from parishes in southeastern and south central Louisiana.
Due to such a large amount of people who evacuated it probably helped avoid further loss of life.
Www.Recovery.com discusses with Hurricane Andrew and the recovery that took place after the
event. Over $11 billion was given to Florida and Louisiana in federal aid monies to help rebuild and
repair after the devastation that occurred. The Homestead Air Force Base was not rebuilt for a loss of
jobs and revenue for the area. 99% of the mobile homes in Homestead were destroyed. Many people
used the monies given to them from their insurance to relocate and move. Miami Dade county had a
shift in population where people where over 270,000 people moved out of that county while Palm
Beach county had an increase in population in that same time frame (1990 2000) of over 100,000
people. (www.Recovery.com). While some areas it took years to recover, other areas never fully
recovered as people left. In 1994 the United States had a population of 263.3 million people. On
January 17, 1994 the United States had its largest earthquake based on deaths at 61 and total damage

Medieval Guilds Essay
The concept of the guild, or occupational group, as its modern version has sometimes been called, is
one of the most distinctive features of Catholic socio economic thought. The guild combined two of
the most important points of Catholic social theory, the principle of subsidiarity, as it later became
known, and a distrust of purely economic motives in the conduct of human affairs. In the workings of
the medieval guilds one can see both of these principles clearly, and because of this, Catholic thought
has insisted on the continuing relevance of the guild idea to even a modern economy. The great
differences between medieval and modern technology and social organization are no reason to
question whether the guild system, with appropriate adaptations and modifications, is not still viable
for a contemporary economy, as more than one twentieth century pope insisted. In order to understand
how the guilds embodied these principles, let us look at the actual operation of the medieval guilds in
their own setting. The origins of the medieval guilds, or corporations, as they were very often called,
are not easy to trace. There may have been links with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Multiple groups consolidated to fight for reform. The economic down fall was too drastic that it

human spirts. Being raised in a protestant home prompted their interest in social actions. Even though
many of them abandoned their religious pathway of becoming ministries or missionaries they were
still discouraged in the corruption in American politics and the separation of rich and poor classes. Ida

goal was to dredge up the muck in American institutions. Ida B Well exposed John d Rockefeller as he

Examples Of Feministism In Go Set A Watchman
Harper Lee s Go Set a Watchman presents a narrative that deals with human relationship mostly from
men vs women point of views. The novel is adorned with sometime amicable and sometime hostile
male female bond. By establishing comparisons and contrasts among the senses of value and
convictions from both feminist and patriarchal sides, the novelist demonstrates her noble aim to reach
some coming of age issues among the characters of the novel. On one hand, the events in the novel on
many occasions contribute to consolidating men s and women s beliefs towards each other. On the
other hand, at the end of the day, some other incidents lead to the disillusionment of the trust one

This takes place in a consecutive manner signifying Jean Louise s over reliance on her father and
fiancée, and subsequent shock followed by coming of age realization. The patriarchal figure in Go Set

social set up than to the ideology Jean Louise expects of him (Fields). Fields also states that the Scout

thinking of and regarding people irrespective of all negligible differences. Jean Louise not just
understands the ever existing disparity in the society, she stands bold and protests the anomaly
courageously. Harper Lee s young protagonist, Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird and adult one, Jean

  • 2. Essay about The Language of Java The Language of Java What is Java? Java, in it s simplest definition, is a dynamic computer application that can run a program to accomplish a task. Java runs in all sorts of things in the average person s life; things such as car stereo systems, televisions, cell phone applications, websites, and more. But, where did it come from, and how does it work, and how has it impacted our lives today? Java was first created by Patrick Naughton, Mike Sheridan, and James Gosling in 1994. However, they started writing the code for it four years earlier in 1990. They originally started making it to try and make a new and more practical way of computing. Originally, Java was called Oak , and it was being made for the Green Project in Sun ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The different types were called Java 2 Platform: Standard Edition, which was made for stand alone developers with desktop workstations and anything related, Java 2 Platform: Enterprise Edition, which was created for an enterprise that was very dependent on their server systems, and Java Platform 2: Micro Edition, which was for consumer devices like phones, stereos, etc (oracle.com). Next year, co founder and Chief executive of Apple Inc. Steve Jobs announces that each new version of the Mac OS X will contain Java 2 Standard Edition. In 2004, Sun Microsystems takes a big step and considers making Java an open source application. At this point, official Java projects must go through certain process, and if altered, it must be approved. Even though at first James Gosling, Sun Microsystem vice president Rob Gingell, and Redmonk Analyst James Governor all disagree to allow Java to be open sourced, it does in 2006 (oracle.com). In 2005, the tenth year of Java, the object oriented language has gone from it s original web animation purpose to doing much more. At the time, Java has driven more than $100 billion dollars of revenue a year for companies, has more than 4.5 million developers, over 2.5 billion Java enabled devices, and an estimated 708 million Java handsets worldwide (oracle.com). In 2007, JavaFX is released. This makes it easier to build web applications and devices. Things change dramatically in 2008 when Blu Ray begins to use Java in their devices. Because Java ... • 3. The Learning And Teaching Strategies Many great learning and teaching strategies are presented in the text, How we learn... of which a few learning tactics, namely discrimination, perceptual learning, chunking and interleaving will be briefly discussed as to how they have relevance in my context. To begin we will examine discrimination, the brain s ability to detect minute differences in sights, sounds and textures. [Such is considered]...one of the first steps we take in making sense of the world (Carey, 2012, p.180). This learning technique occurs often during HT training as students detect differences in breathing patterns of those being treated, l see slight tremors or body twitches that accompanies release of stagnate energy and perceived smoothness of textures in the human energy field (Mentgen Bulbrook, 2011). Next, perceptual learning occurs as the brain takes notice of subtle differences in techniques, such as hand positions that seem the same but may not have the same therapeutic effect. Another learning strategy that can be useful in HT training is chunking which is the simple act of grouping bits and pieces of information together to make a whole (or at minimal a segment) of a concept. For example words stringed together create sentences and sentences which are connected formulate paragraph. In the case of HT chunking is necessary as a series of hand movements and/or places equate to a specific healing technique. The final relevant strategy from the text is that if interleaving, a cognitive science ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Career Profile Of The Transition From School I. INTRODUCTION The transition from school to work can be challenging for students. It is our job to help you identify your goal, acquire job searching skills and get prepare for the outside world. Janice Tester (Career advisor, McGill University) Janice Tester has been working as a Career Advisor for McGill Career planning Service Office (CaPS) for over 17 years. In 2014, I started to serve as a peer educator in CaPS office and Janice became my supervisor since then. Despite the fact that we worked closely together in the past two years, I never get a chance to know her accomplishments in the job and how she perceive her work. This became my initial motivation to interview her. Another reason is that, given the importance of career advising service in McGill, its performance is difficult to evaluate. A throughout analysis on this position can be helpful for its performance improvement. Several expectations for this position were developed during my working in CaPS. Firstly, I expected career advisors to be business orientated, with backgrounds in human resource management. Secondly, since their works involve mostly one on one consulting with students, interactions with colleagues are limited and unnecessary. Thirdly, I expected that, career advisors enjoy a high level of initiative. Instead of taking commands directly from their supervisor, they have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The And Prevention Of Juvenile Delinquency Juveniles in the justice system is an issue relevant not only to people in the criminal justice system but to society in general. There have been a number of studies done that link serious behavior problems in children to adult criminal conduct. In more recent years, there has been more research done regarding the causes and prevention of juvenile delinquency. The Department of Juvenile Justice lists 3 broad categories with many subcategories to help us understand what contributes to juvenile delinquency (CITE). These categories are listed as Individual, social, and community factors. Similarly, Dr. Alida V. Merlo, at Indiana University of Pennsylvania states that in recent history, the juvenile justice system has moved from a more punitive approach to juvenile justice to more prevention and treatment oriented approach. (CITE). This is a necessary change because as research begins to identify risk factors that may lead a child into the juvenile justice system, it is important to treat the juvenile accordingly. We would not treat a delinquent minor that has been a victim of maltreatment or abuse the same way we treat a child that has outside influences in the community that played a role in their delinquency. While we established that the individual, social, and community risk factors could be signs that a child is on their way to delinquency, it does not make it a certainty. Therefore, it is important that when I child shows signs of these risk factors, they are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Decisions in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken Essay Decisions in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken Throughout our lives we are faced with a number of important decisions, decisions that determine an unseen future. The choices, though often virtually identical, lead to different destinies and often leave us asking what if? There are not always signs telling us the way to go or the choice to make; we must find out what lies ahead for ourselves. In his The Road Not Taken, Robert Frost relates to the reader such a choice, symbolic, perhaps of any major decision in life. The traveler in Frost s poem must blindly decide between two similar paths, and this decision greatly affects his life thereafter. In the opening stanza, Frost takes the reader into a yellow wood, setting the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The traveler, unable to see what lies ahead, turns his attention to what he can see, only to find it just as mysterious. To begin the second stanza, the traveler turns back to what lies immediately before him, trying to evaluate the second road. In reading this stanza it is important to remember the poem is being narrated after the fact. The narrator is giving feelings he had at the time along with the knowledge he has now. Because neither path has an obvious advantage, the traveler makes himself believe the second road was grassy and wanted wear even though the passing there had worn them about the same. As we often do, the traveler conjures up a reason to do something, even though there is no logical explanation for doing it. The path appears as if it wanted wear, drawing the narrator in. The narrator realizes now his past compulsion and sees that neither path had any better claim. Even though the narrator has decided on the second path, he kept the first for another day. The traveler wants to take the first road some day to find out how his life could have been. Even with this compelling sense of wonder, the narrator knows how way leads on to way and that he hasn t enough time to change every past decision in order to lead a different life. In this third stanza, the traveler finally goes on his way, but, like most would, he takes along a nagging wonder. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Origins The origins of the Garden of Eden come from the book of Genesis in the Old Testament of the Bible. The word Eden means delight in Hebrew probably derives from the Akkadian word edinu. The Comparison Creation myths across cultures have several obvious similarities and differences. There is substantial importance in the larger ideas, such as gender, the role of the human beings, and the outcome of the creation. I find it fascinating that many of the mythical stories from around the world have told a story where a God floods the earth. I think the flood stories in each myth may be a link between them. Creation myths concern our ancestors and gods of nature; the earth, the sky, the sun, the moon, and the stars. They are supernatural explanations of human origin and they help explain what humans could not explain to answers question about the creation of the earth and man that could be passed on for generations. Our culture and history would not be the same without the mythical place that surround the stories of our creation. You set the standards, adhere to guidelines, and exemplify what you expect staff to model. By doing so, you are establishing and sustaining an organizational culture of ethics and integrity, which is the backbone of all successful endeavors. However, even the best structured organizations face ethical dilemmas in the workplace. It is how management recognizes and addresses these occurrences that will either set them and their team up for success or for failure. One of the biggest hurtles management can overcome is to be aware of their surroundings because when management fails to notice and act, it is an ethical failure (Bazerman Sezer, 2016, para. 5). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clark (2017) points out that studies have shown that employees from the baby boomer generation believe that the younger generations lack good work ethics and are slackers, thus inhibiting opportunities for collaboration within the team. Management must be mindfully aware of the potential for conflicts when setting up teams of diverse ages and delegating responsibilities accordingly to ensure more inclusion and possibly eliminate conflicts from occurring in the first place (LaMontagne, 2016). Bullying and other negative behaviors can also cause substantial problems. Employees can be made to feel inferior to another coworker or even you as the manager. They may be ridiculed, teased, or withstand having their work continually criticized, causing them to feel isolated and insignificant (Wilson Nagy, 2017). According to Wilson and Nagy (2017), employees who are bullied tend to take more sick leave, may suffer from depression, feel insecure, and can experience long lasting, negative health effects. To prevent this from occurring, management must continuously be cognizant of how they communicate internally and externally, as well as how staff relates with one another. By not doing so, the organization could lose dedicated, hard working employees, as well as stake holders and clients. In addition, Clark (2017) suggests that understanding of the relationship between bullying and personality dynamics enables organizations to integrate these findings into policies and procedures ... The roles were specific and to stray from it would not have been good for the family image. Women were the homemakers who waited on their families every need. While this trend was growing another trend opposing it grew as well. We lived in a conservative time but many women did not always fall into the homemaker category. Not all women were married. Not all women had the family so new trends started to pop up. Beauty pageants, Barbie s and Marilyn Monroe were some of the biggest and or sexiest trends to come about. The sex appeal of women changed during this era but icons made a huge difference. They have molded what we are today and what women have evolved into. Doris Day was what an independent woman was supposed to be like. She gave that image but she was not married and she did have a sex appeal to her that was not common. The other three icons broke that mold but Doris Day created the gateway for these icons. Beauty pageants were made to bring everyone together. Jessica Statsky, in her essay, Children need to Play, Not Compete attempts to refute the common belief that organized sports are good for children. She also notes that not only are organized sports not enjoyable for children, they may cause irreparable harm to the children, both emotionally and physically. In her thesis statement, Statsky states, When overzealous parents and coaches impose adult standards on children s sports, the result can be activities that are neither satisfying nor beneficial to children (627). Winning may not be the most important reason for playing a game, but children do not play to lose, either. They are elated when they win and either somber, angry or good humored when they lose, just as adults are. Statsky then makes another faulty assumption. She writes Winning and losing may be an inevitable part of adult life, but they should not be part of childhood (Statsky 629). This assumes that winning and losing are already not part of childhood. What child has ever gotten to full adulthood without ever knowing the disappointment of loss or the joy of winning? To assume that children are psychologically incapable of handling competition and the occasional inevitable loss is to severely underestimate children s abilities. Statsky also uses the all too common phenomenon of the overzealous parent or coach to support her thesis. She cites examples of parental brawls and coaches who rely on intimidation rather than good coaching to push their teams to victory (Statsky 629 30). Statsky seems to be saying that parents and coaches can behave in an obnoxious and even violent manner when they are part of organized sports for children, and that this behavior is yet another indication that organized sports are not suitable for children (629 30). • 19. Shelley sThe Revolt Of Islam, And The French Revolution After the glories of the Revolution had been washed away by the blood bath in France during the terror and consequent events, the artistic stage of Europe came to be dominated by a spirit of gloom and misanthropy , a culture of political despondency, an age of catastrophic despair. Shelley s The Revolt of Islam, according to Cian Duffey, was an attempt to revise the cultural record surrounding history s foremost political catastrophe, to relocate the apparent disaster of the revolution within a long term systematic, natural economy of hope . Shelley does not just attempt to correct the failed political confidences of his fellow artists like Byron, Wordsworth and Southey but challenges the dominant catastrophist record of the Revolution in the public mind. Writing the Revolution, to quote Duffy again, would therefore also mean righting the revolution: correcting public interpretation of what had happened in France . By calling the French Revolution the master theme of the epoch in which we live , and in turn writing about another failed attempt of a Revolution, Shelley seeks to trace its locus in a Necessitarian/Deterministic notion of the natural history of politics, a history within which the Napoleonic collapse of the Revolution is a natural part of the inevitable, the gradual and long term process of political change. That is three thousand three hundred and twenty two abortions performed each day (Guttmacher Institute). The topic of abortion has been a heavily talked about topic for the past few years. There are two sides of the issue, pro life, which is against abortion and pro choice, which is for abortion. Abortion should not be legal because it is a scientific procedure, it is currently supported by law, and deprives fetuses of a future like ours. One of the main arguments against the pro life movement is that the fetuses that are being removed are not humans and therefore do not have basic rights. When human sperm penetrates a human ovum, a zygote is formed. A zygote is undeniably human because it composed of human DNA that is unique from both the mother s and the father s individual DNA. From this, it can be concluded that abortion operations affect more than just the mother and her rights, it now includes the rights of the fetus. Also, the human zygote fulfills the scientific definition of an organism. The human embryo is a complex structure of independent elements designed to carry on the activities of life by separately functioning but mutually dependent organs.
