The poems are inspired by the love that a man has for a woman and in many instances how the
scenery reminds him of his love. The thirteenth tale depicts a man who was torn between whether or
not he should write to his lover. The first poem shows the woman s feelings when he did not hear from

Letter writing is a large part of this chapter playing various different roles. Bechdel first brings up the
use of letter writing when she sends a letter home addressing the fact that she might be a lesbian.
Although she was unsure of the truth of this statement she still sent a letter home hoping to get a
positive response back. This letter triggered a chain of letters between her and her mother. Later in the
chapter on page 77 she gets a letter from her mother. Bechdel uses a whole panel to show the letter
allowing the viewer to read most of it. This letter looks to have used a type writer and unlike other
letters in this chapter seems less personal. Another use of letter writing in this story is when her father
was in the army. Bruce and Helen exchanged various letters back and forth during his time in the army
mainly discussing the book she had sent him. The way Bechdel incorporates these letters into the
composition is an interesting way to fill a panel. Some of the letters take up the whole panel focusing
on key parts of the letter. Some letters are part of the panel as a speech balloon. There are also full
letters that occupy a large space in a panel. On page 62 and 63 these examples are present. A square
panel on 62 shows only Bruce s handwriting. The handwriting represents a sentimental quality.
Bechdel might have used his actual letter for this panel. He writes about the book called The Far Side

Teachers should show that they care about their students by being kind, showing compassion and
asking about students life s outside of the classroom setting. I agree with Lavoie when he discusses
how teachers should ask questions about student s personal life s because this way students can feel

1. Goal Lab 01, being the first lab, facilitated the initial creation of our VMware vApp along with our
preliminary network within. The main goal of the lab was to familiarize oneself with the Remote
Laboratory Emulation System (RLES) and create a basic network utilizing the system. The basic
network we created with RLES had 4 requirements: a pfSense router, a Red Hat Enterprise Linux
(RHEL) 7 server, a monitoring solution, and a wiki. By installing and configuring these operating
systems / services, I was able to better familiarize myself with both RLES and the services
themselves. An important part of creating and administering a network is the selection of what
services and operating systems to use. Some choices were specified in the lab instructions, such as the
requirement to use RHEL 7, while others were left for me to decide as the System Administrator. For
the router, I went with the suggested option of pfSense, and learned both how to install and configure
the OS. My next action was to install and configure a Wiki so I could document all following installs.
I chose to create a separate VM for the wiki running Ubuntu 14.04 as I am most familiar with this OS.
The wiki solution itself I chose to install was MediaWiki, thus I learned how to install and configure
said service. The final server I configured was a RHEL 7 machine, as specified in the lab. I chose
