The Massacre of Captain John Gunnison and his Explorers in...
Two events took place in the mid 19th century in the United States that set the stage for a third which
became an historic turning point in American history. The settlement of Mormons in Utah and their
pursuit to establish their own government coupled with explorations to develop the transcontinental
railroad laid the groundwork for the massacre of Captain John Gunnison and his explorers in 1853
which took eight lives. As massacres go, the loss of eight people was not numerically remarkable.
What made the Gunnison Massacre exceptional is that it catapulted into the American conscious. Both
Mormons and American Indians entered the spotlight of American attention, and the resulting outrage
forever changed American sentiment and government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Corps described the topography, route, buildings and culture of an assigned survey area, made
sketches of routes and distances, noted important observations, and kept a journal of daily movements
when the army was on the march. To accomplish this, such an expedition team would typically include
surveyors, a geologist, botanist, astronomer, meteorologist and an artist. Transcontinental railroad
After the United States acquired so much more territory, the push for expansion accelerated and
spurred development of an American transcontinental railroad line. The California Gold Rush of 1848
fanned the flames of westward exploration and settlement. One of the biggest challenges was finding
the most suitable route. Businessmen were eager to expand their horizons and capitalize on new
western markets. In 1845, an early proponent of a transcontinental railroad, Asa Whitney, led an
exploratory team along the route he envisioned from Chicago to northern California. As a highly
successful dry goods merchant and locomotive manufacturer in New Rochelle, New York, Whitney
traveled widely to solicit support from other businessmen and politicians. He proposed selling land to
settlers along the route to finance construction. Whitney printed maps and pamphlets and submitted
several proposals to Congress. He was thwarted, however, by southern business interests who opposed
his plan because they would not

Terrorist Attacks On The World Trade Center
There is little doubt that the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11
drastically changed America s sense of security in recent years. Yet the country is facing another kind
of threat, one that is not entirely different than the dangers of terrorism at a global scale: domestic
terrorism. At its core, domestic terrorism differs from any other type of terrorism in the sense that
those who carry it out are citizens or permanent residents of a given country and who inflict violence
and intimidation against their fellow citizens or permanent residents in the pursuit of political aims
(Sharpe, 2000, p. 606). In that sense, domestic terrorism may also be called homegrown terrorism.
Perhaps the best, and most gruesome, example that shows the difference between domestic terrorism
and other types of terrorism is the bombing of the World Trade Center. In the September 11 attacks,
the perpetrators were Islamist jihadists who belong to al Qaeda, a Sunni Islamist organization that
America eventually categorized as a network of terrorist groups. Most of the direct perpetrators
themselves were from Saudi Arabia while the rest were from Egypt, Lebanon, and the United Arab
Emirates (Bell, Clay, Murdie Piazza, 2014, p. 607). In other words, they were non citizens of America.
In the aftermath of the attacks, authorities revealed that most of the victims were American citizens
and permanent residents. The fact that the attacks were carried out in American

Ufo Club Research Paper
It s all fun and games until someone gets hurt, or killed. A flight instructor, of all people, and two
students decided it would be a good idea to go on a spree of buzzing cars on the freeway during the
night, while attempting to look like a UFO. Their luck eventually ran out, however, when they struck
power lines stretching across the freeway during a night of UFO mischief.
The UFO club, as they dubbed themselves, was supposed to be doing crosscountry training from
Stillwater Municipal Airport to Tulsa Oklahoma. The flight started normally with the crew opening a
flight plan and flying from Richard Lloyd Jones Jr. Airport to Stillwater Municipal. After landing, they
closed their flight plan and instead of continuing on their cross country,

Romeo Is To Blame In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is a tragic tale of death and destruction for which many people are to
blame. What could have been a great love was destroyed by hate, blindness, and greed. Romeo is to
blame for the destruction of his own life and Juliet s because of his haste, and because of his lack of
following the rules. Romeo as a character is not a patient person. He changes his mind quickly, and
jumps from person to person. He married Juliet the day after they met, not stopping to wait and think
about the consequences. Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here! Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so
dear, So soon forsaken? Young men s love then lies Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes. (2.3,

He then sees Juliet and ignores all the rules of society at that time, and grabs Juliet s hand, and talks
and kisses her, instead of the custom of the father arranging his daughter s future partner. After the
ball, Romeo breaks yet another rule by jumping over the Capulet wall and walking to Juliet s
balcony. This rule, however, would have more serious consequences for Romeo if he is caught by any
Capulets, such as death. Romeo then ignores the danger to break yet another rule; he arranges to marry
Juliet the next day.By going past Juliets father, Roemo erased any chance he had at marryin Juliet
peacefully and traditionally. If he had gone to her father first, her father might have given Juliet to him
because he describes him as????, and might have also seen it as a solution to the feud. Romeos failure
to follow the rules also results in the direct death of Tybalt, and directly affects the two lovers deaths.
Romeo killed Tybalt in a rage after Tybalt killed Romeo s best friend, Mercutio. In romeo would have
followed the rules and let Tybalt go, the prince would execute Tybalt, and Juliet s father would not
have moved Juliet s and Paris s wedding up because Juliet would not cry because her Romeo would
still be here, and Romeo and Juliet would have time to devise a plan

Karma Research Paper
Shanaita Shandilya Ms. Kanika Dang Thesis Paper 29th November 2016 Title?? Many people believe
that it is fate that determines the course that one s life will take; they often overlook karma, a direct
result of our decisions and choices that decides how our life pans out Krishna s words to Draupadi Just
as we cast off worn clothes and wear new ones, when the times arrives, the soul casts off the body and
finds a new one to work out its karma. Therefore the wise grieve neither for the living nor the dead.

the Third Age of Man and she is known to be a Kritya, one who brings doom to her clan. But Chitra

Draupadi as a powerful, strong and independent woman, an equal to the men around her, rather than
subservient. The novelist presents Draupadi s life as a series of choices made by herself, and not by
her written fate. She is the one who writes her own story and gives herself a voice in the

Chapter 15
Quiz
15.1) A portfolio is currently worth $10 million and has a beta of 1.0. An index is currently standing at
800. Explain how a put option with a strike price of 700 can be used to provide portfolio insurance.
Index goes down to 700
10*(800/700)= 8.75 million
Buying put options= 10,000,000/800= 12,500
If you buy the options at 800, the value will be 12,500 times the index with a strike price of 700
therefore providing protection against a drop in the value of the portfolio below $8.75 million. Each
contract is on 100 times the index, a total of 125 contracts would be required.

Apostles Of Disunion Analysis
Ivan Ramirez

Charles Dew s Apostles Of Disunion
The central thesis of this book is that the secession commissioners that were sent Deep South to other
slave states in the winter of 1860 1861 played a major role in defending as well as urging people to
subscribe to their ideology and follow them out of the Union. This thesis helps in giving insights in the
South s real intention, which can be argued out that it was to defend its slave trade culture that the
North was totally against hence the use of secession as a means of convincing people. Even though the
historians mostly ignore these men that were involved in the secession, these men played a vital role
in the creation of the beautiful country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is very vital as it helps one to understand their real intention prior to going to the war and if it had
any impact on their perception of things. The nature of the text also makes it easy for the target
audience to grasp what they are being told. To begin with most of the students do not really like very
long and detailed books, for this reason the author that is Dew makes the text to be just eight pages
this makes it very easy for majority of the target audience to read it clearly as well as it evokes their
real intention to clearly interact with the content this is explained the fewer number of pages. The style
of writing is another key thing that makes it very easy for anyone to understand the text used in this
particular case. It is very easy and jargon free. This makes it very easy for both scholars and members
of the general public to interact with it without challenges. The representative documents are well
chosen in that they can start off conversations among people. There are various themes that are well
outline in this book, some of these themes include the one on secession and its impact, another one is
the theme of slavery and slave trade and finally the theme of war is also much highlighted. Depending
on one s level technicality as well as understanding, the three themes may be able to be viewed in
various aspects. The existence of appendix and a minimum of notes make it appealing to the students

Classroom Reflection Analysis
For the final part of the project, me and the other students, plus the teachers and aides met in the
classroom on Monday morning to reflect on the project. During the final round table teachers
expressed some concern with communication. I think they felt like it was difficult to communicate
with us students since they did not have any contact information from us. A great suggestion was
made during the meeting to make a google document that would include all of our contact information
as well as updates and information about the all the children who the teachers were concerned about. I
feel like this would be beneficial for both the students and the teachers in order to contact each other
more easily and to get updates on the children efficiently. During the course of the semester, I felt like
the students and the teachers were not on the same page due to the issues of contacting each other. For
instance, when me and partner would get to the preschool we sometimes would be unable to fully
observe or coach during our time due to other activities happening in the classroom. For example, one
time me and my partner came and an employee from the public library was there for her weekly
reading activity. I felt a little surprised by this novel situation, but my partner and I would try and
adjust our plan to make it feasible to the new situation. Another issue the teachers had was
determining what time works best for us students to come in and observe or coach. Our teacher Jihan
did not limit us too much on our times, except when they were on field trips. Other teachers noted that
they had specific times for students to come in, and they felt overwhelmed by the amount of students.
They described the situations to be somewhat difficult to discuss the children they were concerned
about or how the strategies were working for them. Hearing the teachers talk about when would be the
best time for students to come in reminded me that they have a lot to take into consideration when
planning. For instance, they need to take into account which and how many children will be in their
classroom since some arrive late and some leave early. They need to take into account how much help
they will need to prepare or clean up an

Analysis Of Cloud Painter By Jane Flanders
The world has several great poets and numerous mind blowing works, each with its own way of
portraying its own message using symbolism to represent lessons of everyday life. Jane Flanders
wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his
canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost
takes on the same idea, but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand
while not revealing the actual meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets
that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of
presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Poems are short stories that have a
meaning behind them without revealing them in obvious ways. Although some are confusing and may
use a different style there are a few that present the same message even if they are written by a
different poet. Cloud Painter written by Jane Flanders uses the clouds and other subjects of nature.
Such as trees and the hills. to help the reader picture the true meaning behind her poem. Robert Frost s
poem by the name of Nothing Gold Can Stay also takes the nature route to convey the point of his
poems words and their Each has a unique way of creating an idea that most can relate to emotionally
and physically. Flanders sees the world as a simple backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first,
as you know, the sky is incidental a drape, a backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches
a rock (already he works outdoors), a wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a
haywain trembles. Showing that the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The
message behind this line is that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still
stands as if to hang on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come which explains
the main point of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen should be enough.
Horizons are typically high and far away. This shows that the things in life are often taken for granted
and used for the wrong

Graphic Design Progression
as long as I can remember I have been interested in things like sketching drawing painting computers
and anything to do with arts and crafts. I have always been interested in arts and crafts since I was a
child. I used to sit and draw images and people in most of my free time. As I got older, and technology
advanced I started finding ways to make my sketches and characters more detailed by use of computer
applications. This is where my interest in the graphic design field first blossomed. I would spend
hours upon hours trying new things and designing flyers and postcards. All the while, honing and
sharpening my skills. It wasn t until my senior year in high school and entering college that I have
found that there was a career which incorporates these things. I can actually get paid to do what I love.
That career is graphic design. Graphic design was a good career path that same instantly like
something that I would enjoy doing for the rest of my life but upon researching it I found even more
reasons to pursue this career field. This is a job that never gets boring every day is something new

Group Dynamics Within The Group Essay
Group dynamics are defined as interactions among group members that emerge as a result of
properties of the group rather than merely their individual personalities (Nichols Davis, 2017, p. 300).
It is important to understand how groups function to be able to facilitate discussions, collaborate with
members and to operate effectively. You are able to understand group dynamics through observation.
Observations allow us to critically analyze the effectiveness and function of groups. In observing
week 7 of Fill Your Cup I have been able to observe the communication and interactions between the
group leaders and members, cohesion of the group, social integration and influence, and group culture
and productivity. For this paper I will critically analyze week seven session and identify the topics
previously mentioned to better understand the dynamics within the group.
Stage of group development
After observing the group in week seven and reviewing the Tuckman model it was evident that the
group was in the third stage which is the Norming Stage.
During the third phase, the group develops cohesion. Group members accept each other s
idiosyncrasies and express personal opinions. Roles and norms are established. Neuman and Wright
(1999) described this as a stage of developing shared mental models and discovering the most
effective ways to work with each other. Tuckman (1965) stated that in this stage, the group becomes
an entity as members develop in group feeling and seek to

Sociology Chapter 6 Summary
Chapter six brings a different approach at introducing the importance of sociology. This chapter,
focuses upon the historical significance of American sociology as society knows of it today. It
discusses many different aspects of sociology, but it intentionally focuses on these important aspects
that include: The Chicago school , sociologists whom attributed to American sociology, and the rise of
female sociologists. These three fundamentals establish the overall history of American sociology. The
first aspect began the adventure and established sociology within America, occurred from The
Chicago school . Here, American sociology officially became established in 1892, by Albion Small,
who lead the groundwork for many students with an interest in sociology to be capable to study
accordingly. The school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their stance may not have been as boisterous then as it is now, but they have always played an
important role within the formation of todays society. The final attribute, studied within this chapter,
supports this notion with the rise of female workers within America. Some of the most famous women
social employees were: Jane Addams, Charlotte Gilman, Anna Cooper, Ida Wells Barnett, Marianne
Weber, and Beatrice Webb. Each of these women were still looked upon as inferior to men despite
their contributions to society as a whole. These women believed sociology was developed from
scholarly investigations that helped to attribute to the ideology of improving ones life through
education and learning means. The women believed that this change would bring about both a sense of
belong for women within cultural societies as well as modeling the community into a world in which
everyone can coincide together. Their work would not be accounted for under the sociological realm
of study... but it would be attributed to the greater sense of communal study as it is known

Union Of Soviet Composers Analysis
The Union of Soviet Composers By forming the creative unions, the state swept away the entire state
art system of the 1920 s, initiating a surge of unity among composers into the Union of Soviet
Composers. Boris Schwarz claims that although joining this Union was voluntary, the political climate
was such that no artist could have afforded not to join, while Simo Mikokonen, writing on the
composer s bureaucracy nearly forty years after Schwarz, instead argues that composers joined
because they believed it would be useful or at least not harmful. Unions seemed to offer benefits and
were obviously different from associations of proletarian artists. While the Party was central to the
creation of the Union, it was then relatively uninvolved in the music scene until the infamous 1936
intervention via Pravda editorial. Mikkonen laments the Party s initial indifference towards the

Compare And Contrast Odysseus And Beowulf
The Odyssey, by Homer, shows what Odysseus went through to get home in the 20 years he was away
from home. From the day Telemachus was born, Odysseus left to go fight in Trogan War. He fought in
Troy for 10 years and then took a worrisome route home for 10 more. He endured death and many
hardships that only he was able to survive throughout the time away from home. Meanwhile, Beowulf
protrayed good vs. evil, establishing an identity, and what it means to be heroic. Beowulf, keeper of
warriors, defeated Grendal and Grendal s mother. But that wasn t enough, he had to defeat the most
dangerous, petrifying dragon; only then would he retire. Because of his courage and bravery, his
strength wasn t enough this time; he ended up dying for the Geats when he fought the dragon.
Although in a way Odysseus and Beowulf both had support, they are both powerful heroes who
accomplished amazing things; however, Odysseus, who was known for his cunning, was flawed and
had help from the gods, while Beowulf, who was known for his bravery and strength, was portrayed
as flawless.

All small time liberal arts schools need something to attract future students to the school. At
Elizabethtown College, the biggest attraction is the not built yet sports and wellness center. The sports

interest of potential students if we added a brand new stadium located where the existing track and
field area is. The new sports and wellness center would complement greatly with Roll Jay stadium.

new place where kids from the campus can come and partake in leisurely activities. On top of the
soccer field being used as a field for intramural sports, the soccer field can now be used as a practice
field for all outdoor sports. Wolf field will be used in a similar fashion. I was once a high school
student and I visited a large amount of colleges. I went through the tour of the academic buildings and
I noticed that the school was beautiful. However, I was an athlete looking for schools with equally as
beautiful athletic facilities. Elizabethtown college does not have great athletic facilities at this minute.
Furthermore, the sports and wellness center was an immense selling point from the coaches and the
school. This Stadium would be the cherry on top of the new and improved athletic facilities. This new
stadium will attract more than just potential student athletes, but regular students will enjoy having the

The outcome of the study may lead to inaccurate results because the participant pool does not properly
portray the population in which the study is collecting data. As a means to account for this source of
bias, the study could possibly be opened up to the public instead of privately selecting participants
from the university. This way participants come from all backgrounds not only undergraduates and
graduates. This study only makes generalizations from the population of 18 through 25 year old young
adults who are undergraduates or graduates that have dealt with parents whom suffer from alcoholism,
substance use, and mental illness. The study does not generalize the population of 18 through 25 year
olds that are not in college. This population that does not attend college are hard to obtain for research
and so they will not be represented in the study. The sample s responses to the survey will allow
researchers to make inferences of the behavior of the population of 18 through 25 year olds who are in
college.

cause ulcers in the stomach. Yogurt is generally safe when taken orally. However, the product must be
prepared and stored in the right conditions. Several streptococcus thermophilus benefits to humans
and animals continue to be discovered via clinical studies and field research. For instance, the
development of recombinant DNA technology has gone a long way to increase the understanding of
thermophilic dairy streptococci along with that of S. thermophilus strains and its natural defense

considering its safety, even as it remains the most widely consumed microorganisms in fermented
foods.
Streptococcus thermophilus as a probiotic
It is an open fact that trillions of microbes reside in living organisms, where they have become a part
and parcel of the human microflora or microbiome. Probiotics occurs naturally in the body because
they are transferred from the mother to child through birth process. According to Probiotics America,
probiotics generally thrive in colonies that adhere to local mucosa and work by promoting several
body functions, from bowel

Allusions In The Crucible
You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them! You were supposed to bring balance to the
force, not leave it in darkness! This is what Obi Wan screamed at Anakin before leaving him to burn
almost to death on Mustafar. While this accusation makes sense from a Jedi point of view, from the
Buddhist point of view, it is entirely unfounded. The Jedi, through their millennia of non virtuous
actions, earned the non virtuous actions that happened to them. In fact, Anakin was just used as the
instrument of karma in Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi are held up on a pedestal throughout the entire
saga, but they are not perfect heroes. Just during the course of the movie, the Jedi lied and committed
divisive speech, both of which are principle verbal non virtues. There are many times that they lie, not
only amongst themselves, but also to the Chancellor and the Senate. Their biggest lies were in their
omissions of information about their inability to access the force as easily, and when they told Anakin
to lie to the Chancellor and spy on him. While the Chancellor is the antagonist of the film, that doesn t
change the fact that when the Jedi forced Anakin to spy on his beloved friend, they were committing a
non virtuous act. They were willing to commit these non virtues because they had grown ... Show

The bad things that happened to the Jedi order were the results of their millennia of non virtuous acts.
The Jedi, throughout their many years of power, committed almost every single non virtue, and did
many of them with the wrong views and with a harmful intent due to their arrogance. So Anakin was
just an instrument of karma that actually cleansed the bad karma that the Jedi had built up. In that way,
he fulfilled the prophecy, bringing balance to the force by balancing the karma of the Jedi. Therefore,
the true blame for the destruction of the Jedi lies with the Jedi, not

The Beat Generation San Francisco s Culture Of Dissent...
The essay entitled The Beat Generation ans San Francisco s Culture of Dissent by Nancy J. Peters,
talks about the Beat Generation, Bohemianism and other issues in the 90 s that affected America s
literature and poetry today. The Beat Generation emerged in the 1950 s and they were a group of artist
s, writer s and poets. The term beat was coined by Jack Kerouac, author and poet, who is perhaps the
most recognized name and face of the group. There were many recurring topics in the Beats poetry that
later on described their literary characteristics. They wrote about nature and jazz but also focused
more on sex and drugs. They embraced their originality and individuality in their literary works by

There were many openly gay Beats poets or writers, like Allen Ginsberg, while others were bisexual

obscenities and their works and for their works to be banned. They were ticked off by the judgmental
society and writing about sex and drugs is their way of raising their voice against the society. Drugs

Healthcare Coverage of the Americans
Legislative Position:
When U.S. President Barrack Obama signed the health care reform bill into law in March 2010,
opposing political pundits were quick to brand the initiative as government takeover of the healthcare
system and pejoratively described it as socialized medicine. I considered it my civic duty to look a
little deeper into the pros and cons of the issue as earlier research findings had reported 45,000
Americans died annually for lack of health care coverage (Robertson, 2009).
The first amazing fact I discovered is that every modern westernized country, with the exception of the
United States, broadly accepts and runs some form of socialized medicine. England passed their
National Health Service (NHS) Act in 1948, and from that year has provided free physician and
hospital services for all her citizens. Government takeover is a concept that contributed to the
European approach where government not only owns the hospitals but doctors are also public
employees.
The health reform bill was enacted by the Congress based largely on the free market and has been
criticized for significantly enhancing government regulation of health insurers. However, critics of this
law have failed to highlight that it established a system that relies on private companies and the
government neither nationalized doctors, nor seized control of institutions offering health care to
citizens.
Since the law established exchanges that drove private insurers to compete to provide coverage

American Traditions In Ww1
As the war in Europe raged on, President Woodrow Wilson aimed to keep the United States out of the
war, and many Americans agreed. It was an American tradition to stay out of the wars of Europe, and
many people did not want to break that tradition. On August 4, 1914 Wilson formally announces the
United States neutrality, encouraging Americans to be impartial in thought as well as in action. Even
though America was neutral, several Americans sided with different countries. Many German and
Irish Americans supported the Central powers. Other Americans supported the Allies, wanting to side
with Britain. They shared a similar language, history, and culture. Slavic Americans also sided with
the Allies. To win American support, the Allied and Central

Descriptive Essay About Homeless People
Over 60 million tourists visit New York each year from all across the world. Last summer, my family
and I were lucky enough to be some of those tourists. The trip changed my view on a lot of different
things, ranging all the way from how people act on the Subways, to the diversity of the city itself. It
was such a unique learning experience for me, and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to travel
somewhere that was so drastically different from what I am used to.
In 2017, there were 62,351 homeless people living in New York. I had seen homeless people down by
the Subway tracks in different movies, but seeing it in person made me realize how real of a problem
it was. When we got off at our Subway station, there were homeless people sitting on the stairs,
between Subway tracks, on benches, and anywhere else they could find a spot. Some were covered in
newspapers with ratted blankets around them, some looked like they hadn t showered in weeks, and
others looked like they had never owned a toothbrush in their life. Most of them were asking for
change and shaking some coins in a cup at us as we walked by. We hadn t been off the Subway for
more than 10 minutes, and I had already seen at least three homeless people. Little did I know, that
was just the beginning.
As we walked up the stairs and out onto the streets of New York City, I was amazed by how many
homeless people I saw. Outside, some of them had dogs with them that looked almost as beat up as
they did. Most of them had signs in their laps that read things like HOMELESS NEED FOOD AND
MONEY or WILL WORK FOR MONEY. Later on in the day, we went to Shake Shack (a burger and
shake place) for lunch. When we sat down to eat, we saw that there was a homeless man walking
around to different tables asking people if they could give him some money. One guy told the man to
go get a job and do something with his life. The homeless man wasn t very happy with this response
and began marching around their table cursing at them. I realize that there could have been something
mentally wrong with this man, however, it made me realize how poorly some people treat the
homeless. A simple no or no thank you would have been a fine response, especially when you don t

John Dewey on Education
John Dewey focuses on what he considers as the audacity of imagination being one of the most vocal
theorists on education and the related policies. He defines education as a process of instruction,
whereby it is unified by encouraging good. His theory of inquiry concentrates on the evolution of the
human race with respect to their surroundings. In addition, Dewy adopted the theory of evolution
initiated by Charles Darwin. Hence he is of the view that organisms in respect to their surroundings
evolve due to the need to survive since their natural environments determine the causes of action as
well as the behaviour. Dewey used what is considered as pragmatism, whereby the students are
expected to learn from hands on approach (Dewey, 1966). This is executed by individual experiences
in the classrooms as well as in non classroom settings. He believed that students are tasked with
learning for the individual process, as life is the best learning process and environment for accruing
essential knowledge. In addition, he believed that education could be attained through psychology,
which was a good basis for learning and accrual of an excellent education. Dewey distinguishes three
phases of education and learning processes. He identifies that the process of learning is instigated by
what is considered as a problematic situation (Dewey, 1966). This situation is defined by an individual
who has instinctive or habitual responses as a part of the human cognitive functions, which

Japanese War And Japanese Imperialism
The Nanjing Massacre was one of the bloodiest fights due to the results of the Sino Japanese War. In
1937, Japan invaded the city of Nanjing after successfully taking over the city of Shanghai. Driven by
violence and greed, Japanese troops were ordered to brutally execute the civilians in Nanjing. The
Japanese troops raped and tortured thousands of innocent civilians, including children. This inhumane
act of aggression caught the attention of foreign countries and allowed them to turn their sides on
Japan. Not only did this event leave a negative reputation on Japan, but it also affected Japan s status
as a prosperous and growing country. How did the Nanjing Massacre affect Japan s reputation to the
rest of the world? In order to evaluate this question, this investigation will examine the extent of the
Japanese military against the Chinese civilians, the reaction of foreign countries, and the response of
other countries following the massacre. The sources that have been selected for detailed analysis are
two books that briefly summarize the Sino Japanese War and the Japanese imperialism during 1894
through 1945. These books are relevant to the investigation of this topic because it researches and
examines not only the facts but also the in depth seriousness of the event itself. The books help to
fully comprehend the extent and surroundings that were placed before the massacre had occurred. One

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury Analysis
The injury I chose to write about in this week s forum is anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sprain. You
will commonly see an ACL sprain in athletes associated with contact sports that require them come to
an abrupt stop and pivot.
The knee joint is a hinge joint that connects the femur to tibia. The anterior muscles of the quadriceps
and the posterior muscles of the hamstrings help stabilize the knee joint (Prentice Bobo Benson,
2014). The ACL consists of long rope like bands that fasten bones together to keep the knee stable.
The ACL is one of four ligaments that stabilize the knee, and it is one of the most injured ligament in
the knee. The medial and collateral ligaments run along the outside of the knee and prevent the knee
from shifting side to side, and the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are located inside the knee
and prevent the knee from shifting forward and backward (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). All these
muscles and ligaments work together to keep our knee stabilized ... Show more content on

The ACL runs through the narrow femoral notch as it attaches the femur and tibia. The femoral notch
is the space in the knee created by the femoral condyles (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). The femoral
condyles make contact with the tibial plateau of the knee. The narrow femoral notch will decrease
with every step through normal daily activities. When the leg is hyperextended while simultaneously
pivoting space is lost and the ACL gets pinched between bones (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014).
Depending on the amount of space in the narrow femoral notch and how much forced placed on the
ACL will depend on the severity of the injury (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). ACL injuries fall in to
one of three categories. Depending on the grade of the sprain depends on what type of treatment is
needed, and how long it takes the injury to heal. Knee sprains can last up to12 months to

Causes Of The League Of Nations Mandate
League of Nations Mandate
In 1919, the victorious allied powers established the league of nations, after defeating the German,
Austrian and Turkish empires in the First World War. The league s main goal was to promote
international cooperation and to achieve peace and security. Mandates spread over the world were
divided into categories, based on their political and economical development groups A, B, and C.
Former German territories in the pacific became class C mandates, as they were considered the least
developed and therefore best administered under the laws of the mandatory as integral portions of its
territory . The League awarded the Class C mandate of Western Samoa to New Zealand in 1920.

Alice Walker Setting
The use of a literary technique such as setting can play a significant role in developing the main
conflict within a storyline. Purposefully, writers will incorporate setting in order to establish the main
conflict or plot within the text. In addition, the use of setting can further extend the reader s
knowledge and understanding of the message pertaining to the situation that the author is conveying.
Consequently, the setting can be a critical element that helps the readers understand the main conflict
presented by the author in a story. Further, the setting has a tremendous influence on what happens in
the story since it plays a role into the reason as to why the conflict occurs. The African American short
story writer Alice Walker depicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Flowers, the major conflict of the loss of innocence due to the sight of the dead man is depicted
through the use of setting. As mentioned previously, the mood of the short story towards the conflict is
a dark mood. Further, it could be inferred that the historical era was between the 1870 s to the 1950 s.
This can develop the conflict because it creates a reason as to why or how the conflict came to be. In
other words, the setting is the cause to the effect which is the conflict. The conflict of The Flowers,
was mentioned earlier to be the loss of innocence due to the sight of the dead man. This can be
presented within the text in paragraph 8 when the writer states, Myop laid down her flowers. From this
quote, it can symbolize Myop s growth to youthfulness due to her sincere and mature actions.
However, the sight of the dead man and the rope hanging on the tree can show Myop s loss of
innocence since she had experienced an unpleasant situation where she must grow mentally in order to
conquer her emotions. The historical era inferred to be around the 1870 s to the 1950 s can give a
reason as to how the conflict started which was the lynching of the man. The idea of lynching, which
can be inferred from the description of the noose hanging from the tree, had occurred in the United
States from the 1880 s to the

Gillian Clark s book on, Women in Late Antiquity: Pagan and Christian Lifestyles is a patchwork
constructed from the legal and medical texts of the era. Clark makes it abundantly clear; that this book
is like a kaleidoscope of the somewhat colorful and comical limited written knowledge of women of
the period. In most cases the history was recorded by the biased slant of the male dominated society.
Clark points out in her introduction, The goal is to give some basic information on women s lives in

women choose what to do? What social, practical, or legal constraints limited their choices? What

It may have been that women were supposed to get married and have children, is this not what they
have been taught and trained for since inception, conception, and birth , was this not their greatest
desire (13). It is not as if a woman had an abundance of career or professional choices. Marriage was a
capital transaction and mostly an arraigned one at that. It is interesting to note that formal betrothal
was the age of seven and legal validity of a girl getting married as early as the age of twelve to any
warm body male (14). Moreover, a male was not expected to get married until he became a man; the
age seems to vary, starting around seventeen and upwards. Also, the women were the under her father

this be part of society s means of controlling women through the dominance of being beholden and

The Effect of the Stroop Effect on Accuracy, Time and Self Confidence Levels
Stroop s 1935 study was the first experiment to test the Stroop effect as we know it now. The Stroop
task measures the participants ability to ignore some parts of the stimuli, either the color of the word
or what the word actually reads and pay attention to others. This is especially the case when the
stimuli is incongruent, or when color written does not match the color of the font it is written in. The
research question that this study seeks to answer is what effect if any does the Stroop Effect have on
accuracy, time and confidence levels of participants.

performance. Participants were sorted into two groups, those highly susceptible to hypnosis, and those
not really susceptible to hypnosis. The subjects were tested three times, waking, under hypnosis with
no strategy manipulation and hypnosis with strategy manipulation. This study found that reaction
times and accuracy were not significantly different between those highly susceptible to hypnosis and
those not susceptible, however, both groups of participants had significantly slower reaction times
when hypnotized. This study shows that hypnosis slows down reaction time, and does not increase
accuracy. The gap in research that this study is aiming to fill is the relationship between the stroop
effect and time, accuracy, and confidence self ratings. This study will have participants read both a
congruent and incongruent Stroop task for both time and accuracy. After they are finished they will

Wow, was the first thought that came to mind when watching the film August Osage County, which
depicts a chaotically enmeshed family. Erratic discipline and dramatic role shifts were visible within

The film talked about Violet s upbringing, allowing the viewer to comprehend that she came from a

The story of the Christmas boots was a dramatic example of Violet s upbringing. Barbra (Violet s

Music Is A Universal Language
Music is a universal language. Covach and Flory introduce us to the history of rock and roll by saying
rock music was born out of controversy, and its rebellious image has always appealed to music lovers.
As music historians look back on the last century, it is obvious that popular music has always played a
role in the recent development of the Western musical tradition, and rock music in particular has been
popular. Rock has had a profound impact on the world of music in general. ( Covach and Flory 3). The
influence of electric blues was heard in the music of Mexican born guitarist Carlos Santana who
emerged from the San Francisco psychedelic scene in 1969. Santana combined psychedelia with Latin
rhythms and percussion to eventually make him as famous as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Duane
Allman and Jimmy Page (Covach and Flory 311). His music is often referred to as Latin rock.
Carlos Santana was born on July 20, 1947, in Autlan, Jalisco, Mexico. His father was Jose Santana, a

mother, Josefina Barragan, stayed at home raising her seven children while his father traveled as a

It is not that innovation and automation have resulted in unemployment or will lead to unemployment
instead innovation is actually intrinsic to the changing business models across the world. Today s is an

machines and technologies that are created. David Nordof and Vint Cerf recently in their book

it away from a superficial entanglement of acronyms and arcane charts. The two fold strategy

Essay The Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda and South Sudan
Introduction In the African countries of Uganda and South Sudan, thousands of men, women and
children are being brutally murdered and mutilated in their own villages. Children are being

heinous crimes are children, armed under the leadership of a military madman named Joseph Kony.
Calling themselves the Lord s Resistance Army, they are considered one of the most vicious terrorist
groups in the world.
Beginning of the LRA The Lord s Resistance Army (LRA) was originally founded in 1986 by Alice

Kony Under the leadership of Joseph Kony, the LRA has become increasingly violent, often towards
the Acholi people, who they claim to protect. Kony uses scriptures taken from the Pentateuch to
convince his followers that they are doing the will of God by murdering and mutilating innocent

Kony along with four of his commanders by the International Criminal Court in 2005, for crimes

commanders are assumed dead, while the whereabouts of Kony and the two others remain unknown.
Currently, the United States has offered a reward of five million dollars for information leading to
Kony s arrest and capture. In 2006, the government of Uganda arranged for peace talks with Kony and
the LRA. However, although Kony originally agreed to the negotiations, he repeatedly refused to

The sinking of the luxurious Titanic was a traffic disaster that could have been avoided. Dr. Paul J
Quinn stated in his book Dusk to Dawn The Titanic had actually been designed to carry forty eight
lifeboats but was rejected because it made the deck look cluttered (11). The sinking could have been
avoided if the Titanic crew had not over estimated its strength, and had listened carefully to the
warnings of numerous other ships, and if the crew managed the rescue efforts into the lifeboats
correctly. The Titanic held 2,200 people, yet it only held enough lifeboats for 1,100 people, which

There was no consistency in loading the lifeboats because when they put them on the deck they only
put them on one side of the boat. So a mans life depended on which side of the boat he was on. As the
crewmembers loaded people on the rescue boats the women and childrenwere allowed to go first, but
some of the crew jumped on these lifeboats as they were set off. This tragedy could have been avoided
if the crew had not over estimated the largest ship in the world, built by a work force of 17,000 people.
The designers and crew overlooked many details on the ship knowing that if this ship had ever sunk
that they would not be ready for the rescue. The Titanic was considered unsinkable by just about
everyone, including Paul Smith the captain of the boat. The crew and the builders of this ship had
considered no worries about the Titanic, so they were not fully planned for this destruction (Ballard

Thus, by being presented as strong and dangerous, a country is less likely to be attacked. From this, a
cycle forms, if the Somali pirates continue to bully other nations, the other nations will then fight back
like America did against Tripoli, and in the end demonstrate their power. This helps lead into the
explanation for the decline of Somali Piracy since 2012. In preparing for conflict it is important to
recognize the signs of conflict. Such as repressed people, which mostly occurs as a result of a
monarchy or those who do not have their opinions heard. Hence, America in the revolution war
declaring its independence and America in the Barbary War demonstrating its strength and will to not
be terrorized again. Once the signs are recognizing preventative measures can be taken to reduce the
conflict or overall stop it at its source. Such as turning from a rule of monarchy into one of democracy
where people will have their voices heard and acknowledge. Through the strengthened support of the
people, the country/nation will be on a better ground and improve its reputation. Such as how America
had the support of their people during the Barbary War and through its victory developed a strong,

Trial By Ordeal
Intro:
Trial by ordeal and judicial punishment are practices that were relied on as pre modern judicial
institutions.
It will be argued in this paper that by examining the historical circumstances surrounding their
emergence and their use, it is possible to come to an understanding of the role they played in these
societies as well as well as their appeal.
Trial By Ordeal
Trial by ordeal was a judicial institution relied on in medieval era in England and the European
Continent. Ordeals were used to determine someone s guilt or innocence by putting the accused
through a physically painful act and relying on a sign from God to pronounce their guilt (Langbein,
2008, p.44). For example, one method used in England was ordeal by hot iron. ... Show more content

The view started to emerge in the Middle Ages that the state should take a more active approach in
dealing with violence. The emergence of the idea that the state should regulate society and keep order
materialized in the concept of the king or queens peace. The concept of the king s peace made
previously private ways of dealing with violence a public matter, thus developing a body of public law
of crime that had not existed before (Langbein, 2008, p.31). Through the presentment system, the
monarch capitalized on local knowledge to fulfill

The Effect Of Switching Frequency On Switching
Fig. 10 compares the switching instances between (i) CSFSVPWM and VSFSVPWM, and (ii)
CSFDPWM2 and VSFDPWM2. It also shows the shape of the switching frequency variation for each
sector. The following can be noted:
The VSFSVPWM reduces 3 switching instances per cycle compared to CSFSVPWM, a 13.6 %
reduction.
The VSFDPWM reduces 2 switching instance per cycle compared to CSFDPWM, a 12.5% reduction.
Hence, the proposed variable switching frequency PWM reduces the switching instances within a
fundamental cycle by lowering the effective switching frequency, while maintaining the output current
ripple within a pre defined range.
To study the impact of VSFPWM on switching loss reduction over the entire modulation index range,
the simulations were carried out different speeds (modulation indices) for a constant load torque. Table
II and Table III compares the current ripple, and the percentage change in the current distortion and
the switching losses for CSFSVPWM VSFSVPWM and CSFDPWM2 VSFDPWM2 techniques
respectively. Similar to the analytical results at section II, there is higher switching loss reduction
capability at higher speed due to higher variation in current ripple at higher speeds (modulation
indices). For example, with VSFSVPWM, around 15% switching loss reduction is obtained, whereas
with VSFDPWM2, around 7.2% switching loss reduction is obtained. The difference in switching loss
reduction capability in comparison to analytical results is attributed to the

  • 2. The Massacre of Captain John Gunnison and his Explorers in... Two events took place in the mid 19th century in the United States that set the stage for a third which became an historic turning point in American history. The settlement of Mormons in Utah and their pursuit to establish their own government coupled with explorations to develop the transcontinental railroad laid the groundwork for the massacre of Captain John Gunnison and his explorers in 1853 which took eight lives. As massacres go, the loss of eight people was not numerically remarkable. What made the Gunnison Massacre exceptional is that it catapulted into the American conscious. Both Mormons and American Indians entered the spotlight of American attention, and the resulting outrage forever changed American sentiment and government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Corps described the topography, route, buildings and culture of an assigned survey area, made sketches of routes and distances, noted important observations, and kept a journal of daily movements when the army was on the march. To accomplish this, such an expedition team would typically include surveyors, a geologist, botanist, astronomer, meteorologist and an artist. Transcontinental railroad After the United States acquired so much more territory, the push for expansion accelerated and spurred development of an American transcontinental railroad line. The California Gold Rush of 1848 fanned the flames of westward exploration and settlement. One of the biggest challenges was finding the most suitable route. Businessmen were eager to expand their horizons and capitalize on new western markets. In 1845, an early proponent of a transcontinental railroad, Asa Whitney, led an exploratory team along the route he envisioned from Chicago to northern California. As a highly successful dry goods merchant and locomotive manufacturer in New Rochelle, New York, Whitney traveled widely to solicit support from other businessmen and politicians. He proposed selling land to settlers along the route to finance construction. Whitney printed maps and pamphlets and submitted several proposals to Congress. He was thwarted, however, by southern business interests who opposed his plan because they would not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Terrorist Attacks On The World Trade Center There is little doubt that the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11 drastically changed America s sense of security in recent years. Yet the country is facing another kind of threat, one that is not entirely different than the dangers of terrorism at a global scale: domestic terrorism. At its core, domestic terrorism differs from any other type of terrorism in the sense that those who carry it out are citizens or permanent residents of a given country and who inflict violence and intimidation against their fellow citizens or permanent residents in the pursuit of political aims (Sharpe, 2000, p. 606). In that sense, domestic terrorism may also be called homegrown terrorism. Perhaps the best, and most gruesome, example that shows the difference between domestic terrorism and other types of terrorism is the bombing of the World Trade Center. In the September 11 attacks, the perpetrators were Islamist jihadists who belong to al Qaeda, a Sunni Islamist organization that America eventually categorized as a network of terrorist groups. Most of the direct perpetrators themselves were from Saudi Arabia while the rest were from Egypt, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates (Bell, Clay, Murdie Piazza, 2014, p. 607). In other words, they were non citizens of America. In the aftermath of the attacks, authorities revealed that most of the victims were American citizens and permanent residents. A flight instructor, of all people, and two students decided it would be a good idea to go on a spree of buzzing cars on the freeway during the night, while attempting to look like a UFO. Their luck eventually ran out, however, when they struck power lines stretching across the freeway during a night of UFO mischief. The UFO club, as they dubbed themselves, was supposed to be doing crosscountry training from Stillwater Municipal Airport to Tulsa Oklahoma. • 5. Romeo Is To Blame In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is a tragic tale of death and destruction for which many people are to blame. What could have been a great love was destroyed by hate, blindness, and greed. Romeo is to blame for the destruction of his own life and Juliet s because of his haste, and because of his lack of following the rules. Romeo as a character is not a patient person. He changes his mind quickly, and jumps from person to person. He married Juliet the day after they met, not stopping to wait and think about the consequences. Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here! Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear, So soon forsaken? Young men s love then lies Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes. (2.3, 1097 1100). After the ball, Romeo breaks yet another rule by jumping over the Capulet wall and walking to Juliet s balcony. This rule, however, would have more serious consequences for Romeo if he is caught by any Capulets, such as death. Romeo then ignores the danger to break yet another rule; he arranges to marry Juliet the next day.By going past Juliets father, Roemo erased any chance he had at marryin Juliet peacefully and traditionally. If he had gone to her father first, her father might have given Juliet to him because he describes him as????, and might have also seen it as a solution to the feud. Romeos failure to follow the rules also results in the direct death of Tybalt, and directly affects the two lovers deaths. Romeo killed Tybalt in a rage after Tybalt killed Romeo s best friend, Mercutio. In romeo would have followed the rules and let Tybalt go, the prince would execute Tybalt, and Juliet s father would not have moved Juliet s and Paris s wedding up because Juliet would not cry because her Romeo would still be here, and Romeo and Juliet would have time to devise a plan ... Apostles Of Disunion Analysis Ivan Ramirez Professor Sandy History 2300 20 November 2016 Charles Dew s Apostles Of Disunion The central thesis of this book is that the secession commissioners that were sent Deep South to other slave states in the winter of 1860 1861 played a major role in defending as well as urging people to subscribe to their ideology and follow them out of the Union. This thesis helps in giving insights in the South s real intention, which can be argued out that it was to defend its slave trade culture that the North was totally against hence the use of secession as a means of convincing people. • 9. Classroom Reflection Analysis For the final part of the project, me and the other students, plus the teachers and aides met in the classroom on Monday morning to reflect on the project. During the final round table teachers expressed some concern with communication. I think they felt like it was difficult to communicate with us students since they did not have any contact information from us. A great suggestion was made during the meeting to make a google document that would include all of our contact information as well as updates and information about the all the children who the teachers were concerned about. I feel like this would be beneficial for both the students and the teachers in order to contact each other more easily and to get updates on the children efficiently. During the course of the semester, I felt like the students and the teachers were not on the same page due to the issues of contacting each other. For instance, when me and partner would get to the preschool we sometimes would be unable to fully observe or coach during our time due to other activities happening in the classroom. For example, one time me and my partner came and an employee from the public library was there for her weekly reading activity. I felt a little surprised by this novel situation, but my partner and I would try and adjust our plan to make it feasible to the new situation. Another issue the teachers had was determining what time works best for us students to come in and observe or coach. Our teacher Jihan did not limit us too much on our times, except when they were on field trips. Other teachers noted that they had specific times for students to come in, and they felt overwhelmed by the amount of students. They described the situations to be somewhat difficult to discuss the children they were concerned about or how the strategies were working for them. Hearing the teachers talk about when would be the best time for students to come in reminded me that they have a lot to take into consideration when planning. For instance, they need to take into account which and how many children will be in their classroom since some arrive late and some leave early. They need to take into account how much help they will need to prepare or clean up an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of Cloud Painter By Jane Flanders The world has several great poets and numerous mind blowing works, each with its own way of portraying its own message using symbolism to represent lessons of everyday life. Jane Flanders wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost takes on the same idea, but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand while not revealing the actual meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Poems are short stories that have a meaning behind them without revealing them in obvious ways. Although some are confusing and may use a different style there are a few that present the same message even if they are written by a different poet. Cloud Painter written by Jane Flanders uses the clouds and other subjects of nature. Such as trees and the hills. to help the reader picture the true meaning behind her poem. Robert Frost s poem by the name of Nothing Gold Can Stay also takes the nature route to convey the point of his poems words and their Each has a unique way of creating an idea that most can relate to emotionally and physically. Flanders sees the world as a simple backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first, as you know, the sky is incidental a drape, a backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches a rock (already he works outdoors), a wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a haywain trembles. Showing that the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The message behind this line is that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still stands as if to hang on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come which explains the main point of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen should be enough. Horizons are typically high and far away. This shows that the things in life are often taken for granted and used for the wrong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Graphic Design Progression as long as I can remember I have been interested in things like sketching drawing painting computers and anything to do with arts and crafts. I have always been interested in arts and crafts since I was a child. I used to sit and draw images and people in most of my free time. As I got older, and technology advanced I started finding ways to make my sketches and characters more detailed by use of computer applications. This is where my interest in the graphic design field first blossomed. I would spend hours upon hours trying new things and designing flyers and postcards. • 12. Group Dynamics Within The Group Essay Group dynamics are defined as interactions among group members that emerge as a result of properties of the group rather than merely their individual personalities (Nichols Davis, 2017, p. 300). It is important to understand how groups function to be able to facilitate discussions, collaborate with members and to operate effectively. You are able to understand group dynamics through observation. Observations allow us to critically analyze the effectiveness and function of groups. In observing week 7 of Fill Your Cup I have been able to observe the communication and interactions between the group leaders and members, cohesion of the group, social integration and influence, and group culture and productivity. For this paper I will critically analyze week seven session and identify the topics previously mentioned to better understand the dynamics within the group. Stage of group development After observing the group in week seven and reviewing the Tuckman model it was evident that the group was in the third stage which is the Norming Stage. During the third phase, the group develops cohesion. Group members accept each other s idiosyncrasies and express personal opinions. Roles and norms are established. Neuman and Wright (1999) described this as a stage of developing shared mental models and discovering the most effective ways to work with each other. Tuckman (1965) stated that in this stage, the group becomes an entity as members develop in group feeling and seek to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This chapter, focuses upon the historical significance of American sociology as society knows of it today. It discusses many different aspects of sociology, but it intentionally focuses on these important aspects that include: The Chicago school , sociologists whom attributed to American sociology, and the rise of female sociologists. These three fundamentals establish the overall history of American sociology. The first aspect began the adventure and established sociology within America, occurred from The Chicago school . Each of these women were still looked upon as inferior to men despite their contributions to society as a whole. These women believed sociology was developed from scholarly investigations that helped to attribute to the ideology of improving ones life through education and learning means. • 14. Union Of Soviet Composers Analysis The Union of Soviet Composers By forming the creative unions, the state swept away the entire state art system of the 1920 s, initiating a surge of unity among composers into the Union of Soviet Composers. Boris Schwarz claims that although joining this Union was voluntary, the political climate was such that no artist could have afforded not to join, while Simo Mikokonen, writing on the composer s bureaucracy nearly forty years after Schwarz, instead argues that composers joined because they believed it would be useful or at least not harmful. Unions seemed to offer benefits and were obviously different from associations of proletarian artists. Healthcare Coverage of the Americans Legislative Position: When U.S. President Barrack Obama signed the health care reform bill into law in March 2010, opposing political pundits were quick to brand the initiative as government takeover of the healthcare system and pejoratively described it as socialized medicine. I considered it my civic duty to look a little deeper into the pros and cons of the issue as earlier research findings had reported 45,000 Americans died annually for lack of health care coverage (Robertson, 2009). The first amazing fact I discovered is that every modern westernized country, with the exception of the United States, broadly accepts and runs some form of socialized medicine. England passed their National Health Service (NHS) Act in 1948, and from that year has provided free physician and hospital services for all her citizens. Government takeover is a concept that contributed to the European approach where government not only owns the hospitals but doctors are also public employees. The health reform bill was enacted by the Congress based largely on the free market and has been criticized for significantly enhancing government regulation of health insurers. However, critics of this law have failed to highlight that it established a system that relies on private companies and the government neither nationalized doctors, nor seized control of institutions offering health care to citizens. • 25. Descriptive Essay About Homeless People Over 60 million tourists visit New York each year from all across the world. Last summer, my family and I were lucky enough to be some of those tourists. It was such a unique learning experience for me, and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to travel somewhere that was so drastically different from what I am used to. In 2017, there were 62,351 homeless people living in New York. I had seen homeless people down by the Subway tracks in different movies, but seeing it in person made me realize how real of a problem it was. When we got off at our Subway station, there were homeless people sitting on the stairs, between Subway tracks, on benches, and anywhere else they could find a spot. Some were covered in newspapers with ratted blankets around them, some looked like they hadn t showered in weeks, and others looked like they had never owned a toothbrush in their life. Most of them were asking for change and shaking some coins in a cup at us as we walked by. We hadn t been off the Subway for more than 10 minutes, and I had already seen at least three homeless people. Little did I know, that was just the beginning. As we walked up the stairs and out onto the streets of New York City, I was amazed by how many homeless people I saw. Outside, some of them had dogs with them that looked almost as beat up as they did. Most of them had signs in their laps that read things like HOMELESS NEED FOOD AND MONEY or WILL WORK FOR MONEY. Later on in the day, we went to Shake Shack (a burger and shake place) for lunch. When we sat down to eat, we saw that there was a homeless man walking around to different tables asking people if they could give him some money. One guy told the man to go get a job and do something with his life. The homeless man wasn t very happy with this response and began marching around their table cursing at them. • 26. John Dewey on Education John Dewey focuses on what he considers as the audacity of imagination being one of the most vocal theorists on education and the related policies. He defines education as a process of instruction, whereby it is unified by encouraging good. His theory of inquiry concentrates on the evolution of the human race with respect to their surroundings. In addition, Dewy adopted the theory of evolution initiated by Charles Darwin. Hence he is of the view that organisms in respect to their surroundings evolve due to the need to survive since their natural environments determine the causes of action as well as the behaviour. Dewey used what is considered as pragmatism, whereby the students are expected to learn from hands on approach (Dewey, 1966). This is executed by individual experiences in the classrooms as well as in non classroom settings. He believed that students are tasked with learning for the individual process, as life is the best learning process and environment for accruing essential knowledge. In addition, he believed that education could be attained through psychology, which was a good basis for learning and accrual of an excellent education. Dewey distinguishes three phases of education and learning processes. He identifies that the process of learning is instigated by what is considered as a problematic situation (Dewey, 1966). This situation is defined by an individual who has instinctive or habitual responses as a part of the human cognitive functions, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You will commonly see an ACL sprain in athletes associated with contact sports that require them come to an abrupt stop and pivot. The knee joint is a hinge joint that connects the femur to tibia. The anterior muscles of the quadriceps and the posterior muscles of the hamstrings help stabilize the knee joint (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). The ACL consists of long rope like bands that fasten bones together to keep the knee stable. The ACL is one of four ligaments that stabilize the knee, and it is one of the most injured ligament in the knee. The medial and collateral ligaments run along the outside of the knee and prevent the knee from shifting side to side, and the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are located inside the knee and prevent the knee from shifting forward and backward (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). As mentioned previously, the mood of the short story towards the conflict is a dark mood. Further, it could be inferred that the historical era was between the 1870 s to the 1950 s. This can develop the conflict because it creates a reason as to why or how the conflict came to be. In other words, the setting is the cause to the effect which is the conflict. The conflict of The Flowers, was mentioned earlier to be the loss of innocence due to the sight of the dead man. This can be presented within the text in paragraph 8 when the writer states, Myop laid down her flowers. From this quote, it can symbolize Myop s growth to youthfulness due to her sincere and mature actions. The Stroop task measures the participants ability to ignore some parts of the stimuli, either the color of the word or what the word actually reads and pay attention to others. This is especially the case when the stimuli is incongruent, or when color written does not match the color of the font it is written in. The research question that this study seeks to answer is what effect if any does the Stroop Effect have on accuracy, time and confidence levels of participants. In their 2012 study, Khanna and Gupta asked how lunch and sociability affected Stroop test scores. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sheehan, Donovan and MacLeod (1988) sought to find out if hypnosis affected Stroop test performance. Participants were sorted into two groups, those highly susceptible to hypnosis, and those not really susceptible to hypnosis. The subjects were tested three times, waking, under hypnosis with no strategy manipulation and hypnosis with strategy manipulation. This study found that reaction times and accuracy were not significantly different between those highly susceptible to hypnosis and those not susceptible, however, both groups of participants had significantly slower reaction times when hypnotized. This study shows that hypnosis slows down reaction time, and does not increase accuracy. The gap in research that this study is aiming to fill is the relationship between the stroop effect and time, accuracy, and confidence self ratings. This study will have participants read both a congruent and incongruent Stroop task for both time and accuracy. After they are finished they will self rate their confidence levels. Based on previous studies, I predict that there will be a main effect of list type, I think that the congruent list will be read faster, with better accuracy and a higher confidence level. I also predict that there will be a main effect of task type. I think that the word naming task will be read faster, with better accuracy, and a higher confidence level. I also predict that there will be an interaction effect. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. August Osage County Movie Analysis Wow, was the first thought that came to mind when watching the film August Osage County, which depicts a chaotically enmeshed family. Erratic discipline and dramatic role shifts were visible within this families. Drugs and alcohol kept this family in a constant state of chaos where individual s reactions are unpredictable. The family rule seems to be that the females are mean. Speak your mind, don t hold your tongue and never think of how what you say will affect others. The film talked about Violet s upbringing, allowing the viewer to comprehend that she came from a house of abuse where the mother was mean and seemed to get joy in inflicting pain on her children. The story of the Christmas boots was a dramatic example of Violet s upbringing. Barbra (Violet s daughter) also has a sharp tongue because she was raised by her mean spirited mother. The family of origin is having a strong effect. Left unchallenged a multigenerational dysfunction continues. Satir and Family Therapy (SFT) looks at problematic families having ... • 35. Music Is A Universal Language Music is a universal language. Covach and Flory introduce us to the history of rock and roll by saying rock music was born out of controversy, and its rebellious image has always appealed to music lovers. As music historians look back on the last century, it is obvious that popular music has always played a role in the recent development of the Western musical tradition, and rock music in particular has been popular. Rock has had a profound impact on the world of music in general. ( Covach and Flory 3). The influence of electric blues was heard in the music of Mexican born guitarist Carlos Santana who emerged from the San Francisco psychedelic scene in 1969. Santana combined psychedelia with Latin rhythms and percussion to eventually make him as famous as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Duane Allman and Jimmy Page (Covach and Flory 311). His music is often referred to as Latin rock. Carlos Santana was born on July 20, 1947, in Autlan, Jalisco, Mexico. His father was Jose Santana, a Mariachi Violinist. He taught Carlos how to play the violin at approximately five years old. His mother, Josefina Barragan, stayed at home raising her seven children while his father traveled as a musician. At about the age of eight years old Carlos learned to play the guitar. In 1955 the family moved to Tijuana, Mexico. It was here that Carlos, at a young age, began to play in nightclubs and bars with local bands. Carlos family later moved to San Francisco, California, but Carlos stayed ... • 36. The Pros And Cons Of Social Enempreneurship Creation of Jobs aiming on changing business models It is not that innovation and automation have resulted in unemployment or will lead to unemployment instead innovation is actually intrinsic to the changing business models across the world. Today s is an economy of innovation . We need to create innovative jobs that would complement the innovative machines and technologies that are created. David Nordof and Vint Cerf recently in their book Disrupting Unemployment argue that there is a need to develop a people centered rather than a task centered economy. There is a need to create value of people rather than just focusing on lower costs of tasks. This essay argues that there needs to be a two fold strategy to rethink the unemployment crises taking it away from a superficial entanglement of acronyms and arcane charts. The two fold strategy includes: Policy Matrix Change Social Reformation through Social Entrepreneurship There are new complex issues which stand at the end of policy makers end. 1. Essay The Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda and South Sudan Introduction In the African countries of Uganda and South Sudan, thousands of men, women and children are being brutally murdered and mutilated in their own villages. Children are being kidnapped by the thousands. Women are being brutally raped. Shockingly, the assailants in these heinous crimes are children, armed under the leadership of a military madman named Joseph Kony. Calling themselves the Lord s Resistance Army, they are considered one of the most vicious terrorist groups in the world. Kony Under the leadership of Joseph Kony, the LRA has become increasingly violent, often towards the Acholi people, who they claim to protect. Kony uses scriptures taken from the Pentateuch to convince his followers that they are doing the will of God by murdering and mutilating innocent people. Moreover, while declaring he follows both Christianity and Islam, he also maintains that he receives guidance from the spirits of the dead through black magic rituals. A warrant was issued for Kony along with four of his commanders by the International Criminal Court in 2005, for crimes against humanity and related war crimes. According to the U.S. State Department, two of the commanders are assumed dead, while the whereabouts of Kony and the two others remain unknown. Currently, the United States has offered a reward of five million dollars for information leading to Kony s arrest and capture. In 2006, the government of Uganda arranged for peace talks with Kony and the LRA. • 38. The Sinking of the Titanic in Dusk to Dawn by Dr. Paul J.... The sinking of the luxurious Titanic was a traffic disaster that could have been avoided. Dr. Paul J Quinn stated in his book Dusk to Dawn The Titanic had actually been designed to carry forty eight lifeboats but was rejected because it made the deck look cluttered (11). The sinking could have been avoided if the Titanic crew had not over estimated its strength, and had listened carefully to the warnings of numerous other ships, and if the crew managed the rescue efforts into the lifeboats correctly. The Titanic held 2,200 people, yet it only held enough lifeboats for 1,100 people, which made the rescue efforts were not followed by procedure. The Titanic was originally designed to hold 48 lifeboats but the designer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was no consistency in loading the lifeboats because when they put them on the deck they only put them on one side of the boat. So a mans life depended on which side of the boat he was on. As the crewmembers loaded people on the rescue boats the women and childrenwere allowed to go first, but some of the crew jumped on these lifeboats as they were set off. This tragedy could have been avoided if the crew had not over estimated the largest ship in the world, built by a work force of 17,000 people. The designers and crew overlooked many details on the ship knowing that if this ship had ever sunk that they would not be ready for the rescue. The Titanic was considered unsinkable by just about everyone, including Paul Smith the captain of the boat. The crew and the builders of this ship had considered no worries about the Titanic, so they were not fully planned for this destruction (Ballard 11). The radio workers for the Titanic were not even on twenty four hour surveillance. The workers of the ship thought that they did not need them there because they thought that nothing could go wrong. There was a #8230;planned preparation rescue effort (The Titanic) that was meant for the crewmembers to go through many times. This preparation effort was only gone through one, the day before the maiden voyage. Through the education and analyzation of the effects, the people of Earth can develop preventative and preparatory measures to reduce conflict. All that has to be done is the analyzation of the past. In the Barbary Wars, America was targeted due it its unprotected state. It will be argued in this paper that by examining the historical circumstances surrounding their emergence and their use, it is possible to come to an understanding of the role they played in these societies as well as well as their appeal. Trial By Ordeal Trial by ordeal was a judicial institution relied on in medieval era in England and the European Continent. Ordeals were used to determine someone s guilt or innocence by putting the accused through a physically painful act and relying on a sign from God to pronounce their guilt (Langbein, 2008, p.44). For example, one method used in England was ordeal by hot iron. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 42. The Effect Of Switching Frequency On Switching Fig. 10 compares the switching instances between (i) CSFSVPWM and VSFSVPWM, and (ii) CSFDPWM2 and VSFDPWM2. It also shows the shape of the switching frequency variation for each sector. The following can be noted: The VSFSVPWM reduces 3 switching instances per cycle compared to CSFSVPWM, a 13.6 % reduction. The VSFDPWM reduces 2 switching instance per cycle compared to CSFDPWM, a 12.5% reduction. Hence, the proposed variable switching frequency PWM reduces the switching instances within a fundamental cycle by lowering the effective switching frequency, while maintaining the output current ripple within a pre defined range. To study the impact of VSFPWM on switching loss reduction over the entire modulation index range, the simulations were carried out different speeds (modulation indices) for a constant load torque. Table II and Table III compares the current ripple, and the percentage change in the current distortion and the switching losses for CSFSVPWM VSFSVPWM and CSFDPWM2 VSFDPWM2 techniques respectively. Similar to the analytical results at section II, there is higher switching loss reduction capability at higher speed due to higher variation in current ripple at higher speeds (modulation indices). For example, with VSFSVPWM, around 15% switching loss reduction is obtained, whereas with VSFDPWM2, around 7.2% switching loss reduction is obtained. The difference in switching loss reduction capability in comparison to analytical results is attributed to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
