The Dangers Of Mass Shootings
Mass Shootings
There is no question that mass shootings are happening more frequently. The question is are they
happening to often? They have become more common, but have always been a problem in the world.
Shootings have been happening since the invention of guns, but as we come closer to our era mass
shootings have been happening more regularly. These shootings need to be stopped and put an end to.
But how can we as a whole all come together and put an end to it? The statistics and facts that are
going to be used give valid reasons to where the shootings take place, how it happens and the number
of casualties and lives taken from these shootings.
Mass shootings have recently become more frequent and more deadly over the years. Living in the
U.S. we have lived through at least fifty years of mass shootings and a variation of tragedies. A mass
shooting is when a gunman shoots or kills four or more people in the same general time and location.
The three most deadly shootings that have occurred in the U.S. in the past ten years are Las Vegas
attack (at least 58 killed), Virgina Tech massacre (32 killed), Orlando nightclub shooting(49 dead)
(Willingham). These shootings exemplify the lack of control that we have over guns and the type of
people that have possession of the guns. If we want to try to control the type of people who can own a
gun, then the government should keep updated on the people who buy bigger guns with more rounds
and do mental background checks. The researchers also found that most mass murderers suffered from
some mental instability, though they usually weren t flagged by mental health specialists or law
enforcement. And military style rifles were used in 18 of the 66 mass public shootings in the most
recent 15 year period the researchers studied (Shastry, Anjali). If a person has possession a military
style rifle that should automatically redflag the government. Some of the main reasons that these
things happen are because the government or law enforcement don t keep tabs on these people. Media
today plays a big part in the mass shootings believe it or not. Media contagion is largely responsible
for the increase in these often deadly outbursts (Media Contagion). By showing the number

The Lord Of Flies And Lord Of The Flies
Death surrounds regions, and it is sometimes essential to make a difference. In the novel The Lord of
the Flies a group of boys are evacuated from England during WWII but their plane crashes on a
tropical island. In the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar Pompey has been defeated which leaves
Julius Caesar as the leader of Rome. In the novel The Lord of the Flies by William Golding and in the
play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare is needed to influence change. Revolutions
occur when the individual in charge obtains too much power. In The Lord of the Flies there are no
adults on the island so there is nobody that appears to be a figure of authority. Ralph is selected as
chief because of his appearance being that he is older and a fair boy. Jack believes that he should be
chief being that he was the leader of the choir prior to the crash. The older boys and the choir organize
a separate group from Ralph, Piggy, Simon, and the littluns (smaller kids). The main objective for
these boys is to have dominance over the island. This group of boys obtain power by having a
different mentality from the others. Jack tells Roger For hunting. Like in war. You know dazzle paint.

themselves apart from the other boys on the island by changing their appearance and mentality. In The

Lucid Dreaming Research Paper
When falling asleep, it is not unusual for dreams to occur. According to the Web
MD article Dreams: Why We Dream, Lucid Dreaming, Nightmares, Common Dreams, and More
dreams are known as images and stories that are created in our mind during the time sleep is taking
place The real reason on why we have dreams are unknown.
Sometimes the dreams we have can be remembered while other times they are easily forgotten. It is
hard to distinguish what they mean if anything at all. The opposite of dreaming is the reality. The
reality is the state of mind in which real objects and events exist. Unlike dreams which occur in an
unconscious state of mind, reality happens through a conscious state of mind. Even with dreams and

Considering that I have experienced these type of dreams on more than one occasion and the fact that
they happen a decade ago confirms that the relationship between dream and reality is just the same
today as it was back in the 1900 s. According to 10 Bizarre Ways Dreams and Reality presented by
Intersect nightmares can affect a type of mood a person is in. The article helps establish the connection
between dreams and reality because it is obvious that in order for dreams to effect reality to effect one
another a relationship has to exist between them.
Sometimes it can be difficult to distinguish the connection that lies between dreams and reality. For
the relationship to be fully understood it is important to know the difference between the two. It is
hard to understand how dreams and reality can work together if there is a lack of knowledge on how
they work apart. It is not always easy to separate one from the other, especially when dreams can seem
as real as being in a state of reality. While it is clear to see that dreams and reality is associated with
one another the type of relationship that they share together is left

Contributions Of Eugene Sorel
George Eugene Sorel was a philosopher and a theorist in sorelianism. He is remembered because of
his power to the myth which inspired the Marxists, the fascists, and the anarchists together with
defending violence. He openly claimed to be a Marxist and a socialist. Sorel joined the political world
and worked on his first French Marxist journal, participated in a debate and critics with Marxism.
Sorel associated with Charles Maurras without sharing its nationalism or political program. He came
together with Jean Varriot and wrote a journal on independence. He was against the First World War in
1914 and gave thanks to the Russian revolution which was altering published as an official Soviet
Union. In less than a year, Sorel praised the Italian fascist leader due to his great knowledge in
politics.
Sorel started as a marginal Marxist and an analyst of Marx s economies and philosophy. He then
embraced revisionism. He has been a political monarchist before changing to Marxism in the 1890s.
He tried to change the theories of Marxism with his ideas, the example he saw the Marxism had
irrational and neglected Karl Marx s rationalism. Sorel was a voluntarism Marxism who believed in
the important will and preferring direct action.
Sorelianism as advanced by Sorel (1999) advocated for classical tradition and believed that the victory
of the proletariat in the class struggle could be achieved only through the power of myth and general
strike. Sorel was a revisionist of Marxism but

Symbolism Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
When incorporated well, symbolism enhances a story s overall impact. Shirley Jackson s short story
The Lottery contains symbolism to affect the readers feelings as well as add interest. The story begins
with the villagers gathering at the square to participate in the lottery. The villagers chat while waiting
for the event to begin. After Mr. Summers comes with a black box, he stirs the pieces of paper in the
box. The narrators describe the lottery as an old ritual that the community continues to respect. Once
Tessie Hutchinson arrives, the lottery starts and the men pick a slip of paper from the black box. Bill
Hutchinson has selected the special slip and Tessie doesn t believe it s fair. The Hutchinson s family
member draw from the box and Tessie ends up with the paper with the black spot. The lottery s
intention is revealed as the community crowds around Tessie, stoning her to death. Jackson constructs
a compelling story with the symbols used, such as the lottery and the stoning.
Jackson uses lotteries, which are generally seen as good things to win, as a representation of the town.
When the story begins, the village seems to be a normal village engaging in a yearly ritual, Nothing
suspicious or deadly with what they are doing so far. As they gather, the men [speak] of planting and
rain, tractors and taxes while the women greeted one another and exchanged bits of gossip (388).
Everything plays out similar to lotteries or a raffle because they have slips of paper to

Medical Field Application Essay
I have been interested in the medical field for as long as I can remember. I recall being around the age
of four or five and my mom asking me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I answered without
hesitation that I wanted to be a doctor. I know at that age I did not know much more about being a
doctor other than simply they took care of sick people. As I got older, I chose to be a doctor for babies
and children, which at first was for the simple fact that I loved babies and children. I was always
researching and reading up on medical books and journals. I wanted to know everything about the
healthcare field from the history of medicine to the most current medical findings. I was always
curious about various illnesses and diseases, what caused them, and the symptoms and treatment.
When I was in my late teens, I interviewed a local pediatrician for a research paper in college and
realized right then and there that I wanted to go into nursing for a more hands on approach to the
medical field. I did really well in my classes at the local community college so that I could transfer
into East Carolina University for their Bachelor of Science Nursing program. However, right before I
was set to move to Greenville, North Carolina to attend East Carolina University, my younger brother

Oligopoly Market Structure
Oligopoly Oligopoly is a market structure in which the number of sellers is small. Oligopoly requires
strategic thinking, unlike perfect competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition. Under perfect
competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition, a seller faces a well defined demand curve for
its output, and should choose the quantity where MR=MC. The seller does not worry about how other
sellers will react, because either the seller is negligibly small, or already a monopoly. Under oligopoly,
a seller is big enough to affect the market. You must respond to your rivals choices, but your rivals are
responding to your choices.
In oligopoly markets, there is a tension between cooperation and self interest. If all the ... Show

Jack does not care that Jill s output is sold at a lower price.
The price effect is smaller for duopoly than monopoly, and the quantity effect favors more output
whenever price is above marginal cost. Therefore, the Nash equilibrium price will be closer to
marginal cost than the monopoly price. The more firms in the oligopoly, the smaller the price effect
will be, and the lower the Nash equilibrium price. When the number of firms approaches infinity, the
price effect approaches zero. Therefore, each seller will increase output whenever the price is above
marginal cost. In the limit, we have the perfectly competitive price, and the socially efficient quantity.
A Brief Introduction to Game Theory Game Theory can be used to study oligopoly games other than
the quantity competition game played by Jack and Jill, as well as arms races, voting games, bargaining
games, and so on. A Game is defined to be: A set of players A set of possible strategies for each player,
A payoff or outcome function that assigns payoffs to each player for each combination of strategies
(one strategy for each player).

The Meaning Of Life
Mehkya Wilcox
Everyone, in some form or fashion, has a desire to understand and question the purpose and meaning
of their life. In fact, it s important for people to understand the true meaning of the purpose they have
in life so that they may live well here on Earth. Philosophers, such as Socrates, Aristotle, and
Confucius began to question the life of a human being and what it meant to be a human being. Each of
these philosophers has their own philosophy or worldview of the best life a human being can live,
with the concept of having wisdom and virtue being the key components. In fact, each of these
philosophers expresses the importance of having a life full of wisdom and virtue based off what they
describe as the best life for a human being.
Socrates, according the Apology, describes the best life for a human being is to live the examined life
by having a care for the soul . Basically, he believes that people should examine their lives by asking
questions and effectively prove it be true and know it for themselves rather than to rely on someone
else s word for it to be right or true. Essentially, this is the very thing that Socrates discovered about
the meaning of wisdom as he attempts to solve the Delphic riddle that no one is wiser than Socrates.
He discovered that the people who claimed to be wise, such as the politicians, poets and artisans were
not really wise; they just appeared to be. In fact, he discovered that even he was not wise and there are

Benefits Of Genetically Modified Foods
Autumn Gwinn UPLOAD TO TURNITIN!!!!!! English 4 Pd. 3 27 April 2015 Research Paper
Genetically Modifying Foods Genetic engineering is a relatively new thing in early stages of
development (Cummins 1). Genetically engineering something is done by altering or disrupting the
genetic makeup. Some examples are microorganisms, plants, fish, trees, humans, and other animals
(Cummins 1). Gene engineers move, get rid of, and add genetic material to something. There is even
human genes and animal genes added to the DNA of other animals and plants, creating unimaginable
life forms (Cummins 1). The products that are genetically modified currently are soybeans and soy oil,

built up and stayed in fish, and it thinned the shells of birds that ate the fish. The most common birds
were the bald eagles and ospreys. Another development was chlorofluorocarbons that were used in
refrigerants, propellants, and the cleaning solvents. It turned out that they went up into the atmosphere
and destroyed the ozone that protects humans from the sun s radiation. The use of these developments
were reduced significantly and DDT was banned (Union of Concerned Scientists 1). For the first time
in the world, scientists are now the creators of new life (Cummins 1). This is a bad thing. Genetically
modified foods are threatening to human health, animals, and the environment. Thesis First,
genetically modified foods are threatening to human health. The biotech industry says that the Food
and Drug Administration (FDA) states that genetically modified foods are safe for humans to
consume. This is not true. Documents from the FDA released by a lawsuit stated that genetically
modified foods are not really safe. They can cause all kinds of health issues. These documents also
revealed that scientists tried to tell the FDA that they are not safe, but the FDA did not listen. Calgene
developed the first genetically modified crop. They developed the FlavrSavr tomato and they had
research to go along with it. Their data showed that lab rats had to be force fed.

Descriptive Essay On Dystopia
Dystopian Setting
The city that once had homed thousands and been the most economically successful country ever, was
now a contaminated wasteland. The land looked dry, destroyed and lonely. The morning breeze felt
like crying sorrows, and the grey deceitful sky awed down at us. In the deepest corner of despair lies
dystopia where hope dies. As someone looks through the eyes of the devil, they see his utopia. Only
visible by the dim light of the moon was the great wall. Beyond the wall? No one knew. Stretching
away from the wall was a humongous bridge that towered the wall. Standing tall on the bridge was a
tower, which had two circles that almost looked like eyes. Those mysterious, creepy and dangerous
looking eyes stared down at the city giving away a haunting look.
The reek of death hangs in the air throughout the land. Filling the mouths of those who lived in this
abandoned land was the taste of burnt garlic. The screams and cries of terror undistinguishable

Aggressively, the wind walked past the building with its cruddy feeling, blowing away all signs of life.
Deeper and deeper into the land was a burning car door. The fire roared and crackled. The roaring and
crackling of the burning car door merged with the aggressive air and created the loudest sounds ever

Like the Mustang GT, the Camaro SS has a huge fuel injected V 8. The engines on each of these living

There are drawbacks to every good thing. The Camaro and Mustang are primarily two seaters with
minimal room in the back for an adult. Children are perfect fits, although adults can ride in the back, it
makes for a very cramped ride. Both of the muscle cars are excellent examples of competitive pricing,

you don t need to spend more than $75,000 for a top of the line sports car. The Camaro and Mustang

Chemistry Investigation on Fuels
1.0 Abstract
The purpose of this investigation is to explore how much energy is stored in different types of fuels
and see which one would be better to purchase for a camping trip. The process that was used to find
this was called calorimetery and the results from this were compared to the price per milliliter for each
fuel. The fuel that was the best to purchase over all was deemed to be Ethanol. Ethanol was the
alcohol fuel that held the highest amount of energy compared to the price and had the highest rating
compared with the other fuels. The other fuels tested which were; Pentanol, 4 methyl 2 Pentanol and

The Prevalence Of Refractive Errors In Children
Refractive errors are the result of misaligned optical components within the eye causing improper
focusing of light onto the retina. Although the optical components may vary by a minute amount, the
resulted blurred vision will not only affect the individual but also society in terms of the health
industry, education, research and socioeconomics. As a result of the impact of refractive errors, there
has been an increasing emphasis for research and action plans placed by eye health organisations and
the government on the development, prevention and control of refractive errors.
As a child s eye begins to develop and undergo emmetropization, there is a dynamic change to the
optical components such as the crystalline lens, cornea and axial length. ... Show more content on

The most common cause of visual impairment is due to uncorrected refractive error. 2 Studies by
researchers by the Brien Holden Vision Institute approximates the cost to correct refractive errors to
be US$20 045 million.2 The correction of refractive errors make a worthwhile investment as
uncorrected refractive errors cause an estimated US$91,300 million US$327,000 million loss in
productivity. 2 In order to minimise this loss of productivity, it is imperative for the government to
support visual health sectors. Therefore, due to the high economic costs of refractive error, family,
communities and the government must implement preventative or corrective measures.
There are high costs for poverty stricken nations tackling uncorrected refractive errors. The impact of
blindness of a country can amount to $42 billion in 2000. 2 This large sum will be very difficult to set
aside and invest in eye health in developing countries. When eye health is left untreated this will often
increase the cost of repairing eye health issues which furthers the cycle of decreasing eye health care.
Therefore, it is ideal for developing countries to highly invest in quality eye care as soon as they can
afford to train health

Discuss How Changes on Aggregate Demand Influence Price...
Diana Gaita
Economics FB1
Discuss how changes on aggregate demand influence price levels, output levels and employment.
The meaning of aggregate is added together. All of the elements introduced in microeconomics are
totaled in macroeconomics. Aggregate demand and supply analysis brings together the amount that
consumers wish to consume and firms wish to produce at any price levels. Aggregate demand (AD) is
the total demand for final goods and services in the economy (Y) at a given time and price level. Also
it is the amount of goods and services that will be purchased at all possible price levels in the
economy. This is called the demand for the Gross Domestic Product of a country when inventory
levels are static. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Confidence in future sales patterns and government incentive and regulations will also affect the
investment levels.
Another injection in the economy is the multiplier effect of the investment. In the economy, the money
invested today will have a greater impact such as increasing the levels of output in the future. This is
because investment rises the capital stock. With an evolution in technology, the machineries help
production become faster and cheaper, thus contributing greatly to increasing the output in long term.
* The Price Level and Net Exports: The Exchange Rate Effect
Exports represent an injection into the circular flow of income, in that the money paid for goods and
services sold abroad enters the domestic flow of income. Imports mean that there is an outflow of
money, and exports minus imports gives the total movement of funds known as net exports. There are
a number of reasons why the value of net exports might change. If the exchange rate increases in value
against other currencies, imports become cheaper and exports more expensive on world markets. Over
time, people respond to these relative price movements and the demand for exports falls and the
demand for imports rises. A stronger currency will worsen net exports, whereas a weaker currency will
improve the figure. Also, for example if a fall in the UK price level causes UK interest rates to fall, the
real exchange rate

Peru Compare And Contrast
There are twenty Spanish speaking counties worldwide. Out of those twenty countries there are about
475 million Spanish speaking people. People often believe most Hispanics are very similar in these
countries, but in fact they are very diverse. Some the differences are the foods, music, and history of
the people. The two countries that show this are Peru and Mexico. These countries are from two
distinct cultures and two different continents.
Peru is much smaller in land mass and population and is unique in its culture. The history of the
country is interesting; Peru was once part of the Incan Empire, the largest Native American Empire in
the world. It started in Peru and made allies with other tribes to get to its massive size. The empire got
about eight to ten million people before Francisco Pizarro came with his conquistadores. Francisco
Pizarro started his conquest on 1531 and ended it in 1534. On July 28, 1821, Peru proclaimed its
independence, but the Spanish were not finally defeated until 1824. The Mexican Native Americans
known as the Aztecs were more cruel when expanding. They would raid other tribes and murder or
sell off the people. They got to around 5 million inhabitants before Hernandez Cortez came and
destroyed the empire with his army of Spaniards . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hand have a distinct eating habit. They eat a lot of tortillas, beans, cacti, beef, and small insects to

Comparing Sonny s Blues And I Stand Here Ironing
While James Baldwin s short story Sonny s Blues depicts the connection between two brothers, Tillie
Olsen s short story I Stand Here Ironing represents the bond between a mother and her daughter. Both
Baldwin and Olsen focus on family relationships and how emotional support vs neglect have an effect
on family members. Also, each author conveys a message of finding self identity even amidst
adversity, while including the symbolism of everyday objects. Furthermore, Baldwin compares light
and darkness throughout his story, and Olsen has the mother scrutinize her actions in an interior
monologue.
In each story, the narrators misunderstanding of their family s needs produces hardships and struggles
as their loved ones find their identity alone. In Sonny s Blues, the ... Show more content on

While Sonny was physically locked up in jail for his addiction to drugs, his older brother was confined
to the racism in Harlem and unable to express his emotions towards his brother until his daughter
passed away. It s ironic that they were imprisoned in opposite ways. While the narrator never got
addicted to drugs like most of the men in the community, Sonny got to escape Harlem and create a
new life. Until the brothers shared a drink at the end of the story, they hadn t found salivation from
their self imprisonment. On the other hand, in I Stand Here Ironing it was almost as if the iron was the
mother s imprisonment. The narrator was trapped by the daily tasks she had to perform to effectively
care for her family, but ironically it was these chores that weakened her relationship to Emily. Help
make it so there is cause for her to believe that she is more than this dress on the ironing board,
helpless before the iron, pleads the narrator (Olsen, 7). The mother ends her monologue with a cry of
hope that her daughter won t be imprisoned by the iron that trapped

Evaluation Of The Early Year s Foundation Stage
This written document will discuss assessments within the early year s foundation stage which I
believe to have the potential of creating positive outcomes for children and families in a mainstream
primary school where I am currently a teaching assistant. Throughout, I will make reference to
reception children which covers ages four and five of the EYFS. I aim to justify this element of
practice using a combination of literature and reflective experiences to evaluate how this practice
contributes to quality outcomes. I aim to develop an action plan (appendix 1) that supports the
improvement of assessment at Foundation stage level and critically and reflectively discuss the role
and style of leadership that may be required to overcome any ... Show more content on

The literal meaning of Whariki is the woven mat , on which everyone can stand on, it interweaves
principles and goals into different ways which each setting can develop their own particular learning
methods (Carr May, 2000, cited in Soler Miller, 2003, p63). Te Whariki assesses children in a very
different way to the EYFS in the United Kingdom. They assess children through learning stories; and
have no set goals that they must attain by the end of the curriculum. In comparison, both assessment
processes are ongoing throughout the curriculum. After researching, I am aware that the Te Whariki
curriculum and the Early Years Foundation stage are similar. They both stress the importance of
inclusion and working with families. The Te Whariki assessment process learning stories seems more
enjoyable, however the EYFS use a checklist, this can also be seen as a positive aspect because
practitioners are able to monitor the child s holistic developmental progress. Monitoring is also done
through homework sheets (appendix 2 and 3) which gives parents a chance to communicate with
school staff by leaving notes about how the child got on with the task(s). A homework policy is
already in place 9appenddix 4)which allows every parent to understand homework rules, and the roles
of all staff, parents and children in relation to completing homework tasks in time. It could in fact be

On September 30th, I had the pleasure of attending the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at the Fisher
Auditorium. We walked in quietly to the back row of our section because the show had already
started, so it would have been rude to walk up to where our actual seats were. As we took our seats the
orchestra sat up there in the beautiful auditorium dressed in their all black formal attire holding their
various instruments including the woodwinds, strings, brass, and percussions. The orchestra was in the
middle of playing Symphony No. 8 in F major, Opus 93. This symphony included 5 compositions that
were all very similar to each other. In most of the compositions they took the audience on a roller

The Scholarship Boy By Richard Rodriguez
Through the narrative The Scholarship Boy I find few turning points that I notice a shift in the
demeanor of Richard Rodriguez as well as how I perceive the story. First of all, it is made apparent to
me that people acknowledge him for his successes by making remarks such as, Your parents must be
proud or How did you manage it? According to the opening paragraphs Rodriguez is seen as a model
student. Although this may be true, the first turning point I find suggests otherwise as Rodriguez
conveys, For although I was a very good student, I was also a very bad student...Always successful,
always unconfident. Exhilarated by my process. Sad. This quote changed my perspective of Rodriguez
because of the negative emotion he expresses toward his family. By the same token, I recall my sister
being an outstanding achiever throughout school, yet, she was similarly depressed as well as annoyed
towards me and the rest of our family. This flashback assisted me in relating to Rodriguez s emotions
towards his successes. In the same fashion, I am supplied a grasp of his shift in tone and direction in
the narrative. The second turning point is like a surge of hope amongst the sadness. We are brought a
new perspective of the scholarship boy from his reading of the book The Uses of Literacy . Rodriguez
learns he is not alone in his feelings, For the first time I realized that there were other students like me,
and so I was able to frame the meaning of my academic success, its

Rhetorical Analysis Of Red Rock Canyon
In the city of Las Vegas, people go through the daily trails and tribulations that the city has to offer.
People constantly on the go, worried about the collection of money, pollution filling our lungs and
tackled with the constant worries of reality. Being in the city, it seems as there is no escape from the
madness that is being offered. Surrounded by the man made building and artificial light that
illuminates the struggle of these streets. Although, there is a place that offers freedom about fifteen
minutes away from the cities madness. A place where the air is fresh, a place where gargantuan rocks
act as buildings, a place where the sun, moon and stars are the source of light and a place that provides
freedom from the worries of the city. This center of nature providing freedom from the busy city life is
Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock Canyon as a space has a rhetorical significance as a location of freedom
from city life with the multitude of space it provides. Red Rock Canyon serves as an example of space
and place in rhetoric and also creates ties to visual rhetoric with the unique scenery and imagery being
offered. In addition aspects of memory such as cultural memory and public memory can be connected
to Red Rock. To begin this analysis of Red Rock Canyon, is the notion of Red Rock Canyon being a
place defined by its theory of rhetoric. According to Danielle Enders and Samantha Senda Cook in
their article Rhetoric Matters: The Rhetoric of Place in Protest , Place refers to particular locations
(e.g., a city, a particular shopping mall, or a park) that are semi bounded, a combination of material
and symbolic qualities, and embodied. For example a city is semi bounded by city limits (semi
bounded because these limits can be a matter of debate, change over time, or be re drawn within a
single year), includes material structures like buildings and roads, has symbolic meanings such as
being perceived as a college town or an urban metropolis, and is experienced on a daily basis by the
people who live, work, or visit it ( Enders, Cook Pg.259, 2011). Red Rock Canyon itself is a particular
location that is semi bounded by rules and regulation that are set within

Essay on Language as Connectivity in a Group
Language is a crucial part of how people in a group show their solidarity to each other. Discuss
Through the use of language, each member of a group is able to construct and reflect their identity.
Through the language features present in slang and jargon, users are able to communicate their social
identity and group belonging. They are also able to portray their cultural heritage and background
through ethnolect varieties of English. Language plays a crucial part in enabling the speaker to
communicate belonging to a specific social group, reinforcing solidarity. The use of slang enables the
speaker to reinforce group membership and belonging. Slang is often ephemeral in nature; it
constantly evolves to suit each generation of users. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slang can also contain borrowings from other languages, allowing the user to appear knowledgeable
and cool, such as nada from Spanish or ciao from Italian. The use of slang enables members of a
group to bond over shared or common interests. Its somewhat exclusive nature enables users to define
boundaries between speakers that do and do not belong to the group, thus reflecting solidarity towards
group members. Similarly, jargon enables its users to reinforce and communicate group solidarity.
Jargon is a specific lexicon related to an area or field of interests such as cars, food, or medicine. As a
result, it can be used exclusively between members against an audience that does not share the same
knowledge or interests as the group, defining group membership and belonging. The frequent use of
abbreviations such as CVA (cerebrovascular accident) or CPU (central processing unit) enable group
members to communicate efficiently without having to spell out or explain the meaning of the phrase
each time it is used. Acronyms such as ASIS (Australian secret intelligence service) and Wifi (wireless
fidelity) enable effective communication, also saving time during spoken or written discourse. Phrases
of Latinate background and origin are also common to jargon, as with De Facto , Quid Pro Quo and
Pro Bono from legal jargon. Their use enables the speaker to appear impressive and knowledgeable.

Adolf Hitler s Influence On His Deeds During World War...
Hitler
Adolf Hitler has the image of having a ruthless evil character from his deeds during world war two.
However evidences show that he was not a terribly evil person, but a normal person with large
ambitions. Canadian prime minister Mackenzie King wrote in his journal after meeting with Adolf
Hitler that, he is really one who truly loves his fellow men, and his country, and would make any
sacrifice for their good...a man of deep sincerity and a genuine patriot, which all shows he was
naturally a good person with a genuine ambition of wanting to create a better environment for himself
and the country. In January 1933, Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany and immediately began to
challenge the Treaty of Versailles and adapt an aggressive foreign policy, which led to war. It is not
hard to blame Adolf Hitler for starting the war, however looking at evidences show that he was
naturally a good person that was not taught or at the very least did not bother to realize the importance
of learning to control his ambitions to not reach the level of selfish greediness. Hence ambition is
needed to proceed forward but the control of it must be taught to refrain from these event occurring.
Napoleon
Napoleon was very ambitious to the point where it was greedy as shown in history books of his many
battles. The historians hold divergent views regarding the motives behind these battles. According to
them his chief motives for his wars are dynastic advancement, high ambition, influence of

The Church Of Worship Associated With Their Religion
For the many people who choose to follow a religion, the place of worship associated with their
religion often serves as the center of their religious experience. For followers of Christianity, this
significant place is a church. By attending church services weekly, or sometimes even daily, more
common among extremely devoted members, people give meaning to the church itself. Without the
church community, meaning the people who belong to the church, the church could be just any
another brick building at the end of the street. This is not the case, however, as active church
members, and even just visitors, like myself, each instill their own meaning into the church, and the
sum of all of these individual experiences is what makes the church so meaningful. Before this past
weekend, I had only ever been to churches for weddings and funerals. I did not grow up in a religious
family, so the concept of going to church was never prominent in my mind, nor a part of my life. From
a young age, though, I could always tell that churches were significant places. While many churches
are large and grand, clearly displaying their importance, even smaller, more simple churches still seem
to demand a level of respect that other sorts of buildings just do not. So, I decided to use this
opportunity to find out what I had been missing throughout my life: going to a Sunday church service.
My friend Camille is a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist, a relatively new denomination of

Compare And Contrast The Lamb And The Tyger
The Differences and Similarities of a Lamb and a Tyger Poetry is a form of writing that lets the writer
have the ability to express themselves in a creative way. This allows the reader to be moved in a way
that other literary works cannot. It s no wonder that poetry has been around for a very long time. With
the likes of Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, and Homer, who helped shaped poetry in some way, we
often forget those who created wonderful works of art. One of those writers is William Blake. Much of
Blake s inspirations for his poems came from his childhood. Blake had begun having visions when he
was around the age of four. He had even once claimed that he had seen God standing right next to his
window. Aside from his visions, Blake had a religious upbringing, in which his parents had treated his
visions as a gift. It s easy for one to assume that his upbringing had a huge influence in his poems, as
often times one can feel a sense of religious undertones in his writing. To help explore this concept, I
will compare and contrast two of Blake s works, The Tyger and The Lamb. In this essay, I will
examine and analyze both poems structures, the writing styles of both poems, and give my personal
opinion on each of the poems purpose.
When you first look at both poems, you realize that The Tyger is longer than The Lamb, with The
Lamb having only two stanzas while The Tyger has six stanzas. The another difference in both poems,
in terms of their length, is

Art Analysis Of Breaking Home Ties
Breaking Home Ties was a painting that was originally created for the cover of a magazine. The
magazine was called The Saturday Evening Post. The painting was debuted on the September 25,
1954 edition of the magazine. The setting of the picture seems to have taken place around the 1930 s
or 1940 s, around the depression era. The painting has many hidden messages that the painter tried to
portray. This picture has a very modern perspective as well that is very fascinating. In the painting, a
young man and his father are sitting on the running board of the family s farm truck waiting for a train
to arrive to pick up the young man for university. The expressions on both of the men s faces tell a
story all on its own. The young man seems to be very optimistic, while his father is dreading the
arrival of the train to pick him up. The father of the young man seems to be upset and in thought. The
expression on his face looks as if he is thinking back to when he was young and the opportunities he
had or didn t have, but he also seems to have an upset look on his face because he is letting go of his
son, possibly even his only son. His facial expression looks as if he is thinking back on his life and
what it was like for him, but also what the future will hold for himself and his son while he is away at
college. The young man looks like he is looking down the railway in the distance. He seems excited
and anxious to leave for university. The boy s face

Paris Urban Planning
As the largest city in France with a 10.8 million population ( The World Factbook: France , 2017),
Paris has been ranked number four according the global power city index measured by Institute for
Urban Strategies, The Mori Memorial Foundation (2017). Moreover, as one of the most visited city in
the world (Millington, 2017), proper urban planning in Paris seems to be required in order to maintain
an appropriate balance between the large amount of tourists influx and the residents living quality.
Based on Before Sunset (Linklater, 2004), the movie conveyed several perspectives that could
potentially impact the urban planning of Paris. This paper would be analyzing the following aspects in
order to emphasize the importance of urban planning in such a megacity: the concept of city
sustainability, the mixed use concept within the city, and the importance of open space. An insight on
the relation between urban planning and vulnerability towards terrorism attack would also be
discussed.
The concept of urban sustainability stemmed from the expectation of large population influx within
the next 50 years to major cities. If no sustainable plans were implemented prior to the population
growth, the sudden increase in carbon footprint, household and transportation greenhouse gases, and
so on could potentially worsen some severe global phenomena such as climate change or extreme
weather conditions (Kammen Sunter, 2016). As a result, in major cities like Paris, the integration of

Essay Preparation of 4-Bromoaniline
Preparation of 4 bromoaniline
Introduction
Aromatic compounds tend to undergo electrophilic aromatic substitutions rather than addition
reactions. Substitution of a new group for a hydrogen atom takes place via a resonance stabilized
carbocation. As the benzene ring is quite electron rich, it almost always behaves as a nucleophile in a
reaction which means the substitution on benzene occurs by the addition of an electrophile.
Substituted benzenes tend to react at predictable positions. Alkyl groups and other electron donating
substituents enhance substitution and direct it toward the ortho and para positions. Electron
withdrawing substituents slow the substitution and direct it toward the meta positions.
Aromatic compounds also undergo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. The Dangers Of Mass Shootings Mass Shootings There is no question that mass shootings are happening more frequently. The question is are they happening to often? They have become more common, but have always been a problem in the world. Shootings have been happening since the invention of guns, but as we come closer to our era mass shootings have been happening more regularly. These shootings need to be stopped and put an end to. But how can we as a whole all come together and put an end to it? The statistics and facts that are going to be used give valid reasons to where the shootings take place, how it happens and the number of casualties and lives taken from these shootings. Mass shootings have recently become more frequent and more deadly over the years. Living in the U.S. we have lived through at least fifty years of mass shootings and a variation of tragedies. A mass shooting is when a gunman shoots or kills four or more people in the same general time and location. The three most deadly shootings that have occurred in the U.S. in the past ten years are Las Vegas attack (at least 58 killed), Virgina Tech massacre (32 killed), Orlando nightclub shooting(49 dead) (Willingham). These shootings exemplify the lack of control that we have over guns and the type of people that have possession of the guns. If we want to try to control the type of people who can own a gun, then the government should keep updated on the people who buy bigger guns with more rounds and do mental background checks. The researchers also found that most mass murderers suffered from some mental instability, though they usually weren t flagged by mental health specialists or law enforcement. And military style rifles were used in 18 of the 66 mass public shootings in the most recent 15 year period the researchers studied (Shastry, Anjali). If a person has possession a military style rifle that should automatically redflag the government. Some of the main reasons that these things happen are because the government or law enforcement don t keep tabs on these people. Media today plays a big part in the mass shootings believe it or not. Media contagion is largely responsible for the increase in these often deadly outbursts (Media Contagion). By showing the number ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once Tessie Hutchinson arrives, the lottery starts and the men pick a slip of paper from the black box. Bill Hutchinson has selected the special slip and Tessie doesn t believe it s fair. The Hutchinson s family member draw from the box and Tessie ends up with the paper with the black spot. The lottery s intention is revealed as the community crowds around Tessie, stoning her to death. Jackson constructs a compelling story with the symbols used, such as the lottery and the stoning. Jackson uses lotteries, which are generally seen as good things to win, as a representation of the town. When the story begins, the village seems to be a normal village engaging in a yearly ritual, Nothing suspicious or deadly with what they are doing so far. • 9. Medical Field Application Essay I have been interested in the medical field for as long as I can remember. I recall being around the age of four or five and my mom asking me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I answered without hesitation that I wanted to be a doctor. I know at that age I did not know much more about being a doctor other than simply they took care of sick people. As I got older, I chose to be a doctor for babies and children, which at first was for the simple fact that I loved babies and children. I was always researching and reading up on medical books and journals. I wanted to know everything about the healthcare field from the history of medicine to the most current medical findings. I was always curious about various illnesses and diseases, what caused them, and the symptoms and treatment. When I was in my late teens, I interviewed a local pediatrician for a research paper in college and realized right then and there that I wanted to go into nursing for a more hands on approach to the medical field. I did really well in my classes at the local community college so that I could transfer into East Carolina University for their Bachelor of Science Nursing program. Oligopoly requires strategic thinking, unlike perfect competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition. Under perfect competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition, a seller faces a well defined demand curve for its output, and should choose the quantity where MR=MC. The seller does not worry about how other sellers will react, because either the seller is negligibly small, or already a monopoly. Under oligopoly, a seller is big enough to affect the market. • 12. The Meaning Of Life Mehkya Wilcox Everyone, in some form or fashion, has a desire to understand and question the purpose and meaning of their life. In fact, it s important for people to understand the true meaning of the purpose they have in life so that they may live well here on Earth. Philosophers, such as Socrates, Aristotle, and Confucius began to question the life of a human being and what it meant to be a human being. Each of these philosophers has their own philosophy or worldview of the best life a human being can live, with the concept of having wisdom and virtue being the key components. In fact, each of these philosophers expresses the importance of having a life full of wisdom and virtue based off what they describe as the best life for a human being. Socrates, according the Apology, describes the best life for a human being is to live the examined life by having a care for the soul . Basically, he believes that people should examine their lives by asking questions and effectively prove it be true and know it for themselves rather than to rely on someone else s word for it to be right or true. Essentially, this is the very thing that Socrates discovered about the meaning of wisdom as he attempts to solve the Delphic riddle that no one is wiser than Socrates. He discovered that the people who claimed to be wise, such as the politicians, poets and artisans were not really wise; they just appeared to be. Aggregate demand (AD) is the total demand for final goods and services in the economy (Y) at a given time and price level. Confidence in future sales patterns and government incentive and regulations will also affect the investment levels. Another injection in the economy is the multiplier effect of the investment. In the economy, the money invested today will have a greater impact such as increasing the levels of output in the future. This is because investment rises the capital stock. With an evolution in technology, the machineries help production become faster and cheaper, thus contributing greatly to increasing the output in long term. * The Price Level and Net Exports: The Exchange Rate Effect Exports represent an injection into the circular flow of income, in that the money paid for goods and services sold abroad enters the domestic flow of income. Imports mean that there is an outflow of money, and exports minus imports gives the total movement of funds known as net exports. There are a number of reasons why the value of net exports might change. If the exchange rate increases in value against other currencies, imports become cheaper and exports more expensive on world markets. Over time, people respond to these relative price movements and the demand for exports falls and the demand for imports rises. A stronger currency will worsen net exports, whereas a weaker currency will improve the figure. People constantly on the go, worried about the collection of money, pollution filling our lungs and tackled with the constant worries of reality. Being in the city, it seems as there is no escape from the madness that is being offered. Surrounded by the man made building and artificial light that illuminates the struggle of these streets. Although, there is a place that offers freedom about fifteen minutes away from the cities madness. A place where the air is fresh, a place where gargantuan rocks act as buildings, a place where the sun, moon and stars are the source of light and a place that provides freedom from the worries of the city. This center of nature providing freedom from the busy city life is Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock Canyon as a space has a rhetorical significance as a location of freedom from city life with the multitude of space it provides. Red Rock Canyon serves as an example of space and place in rhetoric and also creates ties to visual rhetoric with the unique scenery and imagery being offered. In addition aspects of memory such as cultural memory and public memory can be connected to Red Rock. To begin this analysis of Red Rock Canyon, is the notion of Red Rock Canyon being a place defined by its theory of rhetoric. According to Danielle Enders and Samantha Senda Cook in their article Rhetoric Matters: The Rhetoric of Place in Protest , Place refers to particular locations (e.g., a city, a particular shopping mall, or a park) that are semi bounded, a combination of material and symbolic qualities, and embodied. For example a city is semi bounded by city limits (semi bounded because these limits can be a matter of debate, change over time, or be re drawn within a single year), includes material structures like buildings and roads, has symbolic meanings such as being perceived as a college town or an urban metropolis, and is experienced on a daily basis by the people who live, work, or visit it ( Enders, Cook Pg.259, 2011). Red Rock Canyon itself is a particular location that is semi bounded by rules and regulation that are set within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Essay on Language as Connectivity in a Group Language is a crucial part of how people in a group show their solidarity to each other. Discuss Through the use of language, each member of a group is able to construct and reflect their identity. Through the language features present in slang and jargon, users are able to communicate their social identity and group belonging. They are also able to portray their cultural heritage and background through ethnolect varieties of English. Language plays a crucial part in enabling the speaker to communicate belonging to a specific social group, reinforcing solidarity. The use of slang enables the speaker to reinforce group membership and belonging. Slang is often ephemeral in nature; it constantly evolves to suit each generation of users. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slang can also contain borrowings from other languages, allowing the user to appear knowledgeable and cool, such as nada from Spanish or ciao from Italian. The use of slang enables members of a group to bond over shared or common interests. Its somewhat exclusive nature enables users to define boundaries between speakers that do and do not belong to the group, thus reflecting solidarity towards group members. Similarly, jargon enables its users to reinforce and communicate group solidarity. Jargon is a specific lexicon related to an area or field of interests such as cars, food, or medicine. As a result, it can be used exclusively between members against an audience that does not share the same knowledge or interests as the group, defining group membership and belonging. The frequent use of abbreviations such as CVA (cerebrovascular accident) or CPU (central processing unit) enable group members to communicate efficiently without having to spell out or explain the meaning of the phrase each time it is used. Acronyms such as ASIS (Australian secret intelligence service) and Wifi (wireless fidelity) enable effective communication, also saving time during spoken or written discourse. Phrases of Latinate background and origin are also common to jargon, as with De Facto , Quid Pro Quo and Pro Bono from legal jargon. Their use enables the speaker to appear impressive and knowledgeable. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Adolf Hitler s Influence On His Deeds During World War... Hitler Adolf Hitler has the image of having a ruthless evil character from his deeds during world war two. However evidences show that he was not a terribly evil person, but a normal person with large ambitions. Canadian prime minister Mackenzie King wrote in his journal after meeting with Adolf Hitler that, he is really one who truly loves his fellow men, and his country, and would make any sacrifice for their good...a man of deep sincerity and a genuine patriot, which all shows he was naturally a good person with a genuine ambition of wanting to create a better environment for himself and the country. In January 1933, Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany and immediately began to challenge the Treaty of Versailles and adapt an aggressive foreign policy, which led to war. It is not hard to blame Adolf Hitler for starting the war, however looking at evidences show that he was naturally a good person that was not taught or at the very least did not bother to realize the importance of learning to control his ambitions to not reach the level of selfish greediness. Hence ambition is needed to proceed forward but the control of it must be taught to refrain from these event occurring. Napoleon Napoleon was very ambitious to the point where it was greedy as shown in history books of his many battles. The historians hold divergent views regarding the motives behind these battles. According to them his chief motives for his wars are dynastic advancement, high ambition, influence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Church Of Worship Associated With Their Religion For the many people who choose to follow a religion, the place of worship associated with their religion often serves as the center of their religious experience. For followers of Christianity, this significant place is a church. By attending church services weekly, or sometimes even daily, more common among extremely devoted members, people give meaning to the church itself. Without the church community, meaning the people who belong to the church, the church could be just any another brick building at the end of the street. This is not the case, however, as active church members, and even just visitors, like myself, each instill their own meaning into the church, and the sum of all of these individual experiences is what makes the church so meaningful. Before this past weekend, I had only ever been to churches for weddings and funerals. I did not grow up in a religious family, so the concept of going to church was never prominent in my mind, nor a part of my life. From a young age, though, I could always tell that churches were significant places. While many churches are large and grand, clearly displaying their importance, even smaller, more simple churches still seem to demand a level of respect that other sorts of buildings just do not. So, I decided to use this opportunity to find out what I had been missing throughout my life: going to a Sunday church service. My friend Camille is a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist, a relatively new denomination of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Compare And Contrast The Lamb And The Tyger The Differences and Similarities of a Lamb and a Tyger Poetry is a form of writing that lets the writer have the ability to express themselves in a creative way. This allows the reader to be moved in a way that other literary works cannot. It s no wonder that poetry has been around for a very long time. With the likes of Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, and Homer, who helped shaped poetry in some way, we often forget those who created wonderful works of art. One of those writers is William Blake. Much of Blake s inspirations for his poems came from his childhood. Blake had begun having visions when he was around the age of four. He had even once claimed that he had seen God standing right next to his window. Aside from his visions, Blake had a religious upbringing, in which his parents had treated his visions as a gift. It s easy for one to assume that his upbringing had a huge influence in his poems, as often times one can feel a sense of religious undertones in his writing. To help explore this concept, I will compare and contrast two of Blake s works, The Tyger and The Lamb. In this essay, I will examine and analyze both poems structures, the writing styles of both poems, and give my personal opinion on each of the poems purpose. When you first look at both poems, you realize that The Tyger is longer than The Lamb, with The Lamb having only two stanzas while The Tyger has six stanzas. The another difference in both poems, in terms of their length, is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Art Analysis Of Breaking Home Ties Breaking Home Ties was a painting that was originally created for the cover of a magazine. The magazine was called The Saturday Evening Post. The painting was debuted on the September 25, 1954 edition of the magazine. The setting of the picture seems to have taken place around the 1930 s or 1940 s, around the depression era. The painting has many hidden messages that the painter tried to portray. This picture has a very modern perspective as well that is very fascinating. In the painting, a young man and his father are sitting on the running board of the family s farm truck waiting for a train to arrive to pick up the young man for university. The expressions on both of the men s faces tell a story all on its own. The young man seems to be very optimistic, while his father is dreading the arrival of the train to pick him up. The father of the young man seems to be upset and in thought. The expression on his face looks as if he is thinking back to when he was young and the opportunities he had or didn t have, but he also seems to have an upset look on his face because he is letting go of his son, possibly even his only son. His facial expression looks as if he is thinking back on his life and what it was like for him, but also what the future will hold for himself and his son while he is away at college. The young man looks like he is looking down the railway in the distance. He seems excited and anxious to leave for university. The boy s face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment A Government acting in good faith should never bring criminal proceedings against anyone who reveals information about human rights abuses within its jurisdiction. There is therefore a sacred responsibility placed on governments to protect whistleblowers as they play an important role, for example: a) Smedley Butler who exposed the McCormack Dickstein Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives that business leaders had plotted a fascist coup d état against the Franklin D. Roosevelt s administration in what became known as the Business Plot . b) Peter Buxtun who exposed the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment: an infamous clinical study conducted between 1932 and 1972 by the Public Health Service to study the natural progression of untreated syphilis ... In short term of 3 years I would Pick Alternative 2 as it is still the lowest cost and does not a substantial increase in cost from the base case. Long run 7 years Alternative 1 o The per a procedure Capital cost decrease as the life span increase as more procedures will be allocated through the life span resulting in a decrease in total per a procedure costs. • 38. Paris Urban Planning As the largest city in France with a 10.8 million population ( The World Factbook: France , 2017), Paris has been ranked number four according the global power city index measured by Institute for Urban Strategies, The Mori Memorial Foundation (2017). Moreover, as one of the most visited city in the world (Millington, 2017), proper urban planning in Paris seems to be required in order to maintain an appropriate balance between the large amount of tourists influx and the residents living quality. Based on Before Sunset (Linklater, 2004), the movie conveyed several perspectives that could potentially impact the urban planning of Paris. This paper would be analyzing the following aspects in order to emphasize the importance of urban planning in such a megacity: the concept of city sustainability, the mixed use concept within the city, and the importance of open space. An insight on the relation between urban planning and vulnerability towards terrorism attack would also be discussed. The concept of urban sustainability stemmed from the expectation of large population influx within the next 50 years to major cities. If no sustainable plans were implemented prior to the population growth, the sudden increase in carbon footprint, household and transportation greenhouse gases, and so on could potentially worsen some severe global phenomena such as climate change or extreme weather conditions (Kammen Sunter, 2016). As a result, in major cities like Paris, the integration of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Essay Preparation of 4-Bromoaniline Preparation of 4 bromoaniline Introduction Aromatic compounds tend to undergo electrophilic aromatic substitutions rather than addition reactions. Substitution of a new group for a hydrogen atom takes place via a resonance stabilized carbocation. As the benzene ring is quite electron rich, it almost always behaves as a nucleophile in a reaction which means the substitution on benzene occurs by the addition of an electrophile. Substituted benzenes tend to react at predictable positions. Alkyl groups and other electron donating substituents enhance substitution and direct it toward the ortho and para positions. Electron withdrawing substituents slow the substitution and direct it toward the meta positions. Aromatic compounds also undergo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
