Essay about The Missile Defense System of the United States
The Missile Defense System of the United States
Abstract
When Ronald Reagan was in the Presidency, he and his staff came up with the idea
for a missile defense system that would defend the country in the event of a nuclear
missile attack. This system was named Star Wars and the basic principal behind it
was that it would be a shield that covered all fifty states. However, government
officials soon realized that Reagan s defense system was impossible to build, so the
program was dropped, but the idea to defend the country against a missile attack
stuck around. Today, the U. S. Government is trying to build a new, more realistic
missile defense system. However, not all the problems have been worked out, and the

Another one of its missions is to develop and maintain the option to deploy a cost
effective, operationally effective, and Anti Ballistic Missile Treaty compliant system
that could protect the states against a country that may pose a threat. The most
important part of this is definitely the protection of all the states against a missile
attack. In order to make a defense system that would work, the National Missile
Defense would need to have a system that meets the missile threat when it s released,
detect a launch of a missile, track it using radars and destroy the warhead above the
atmosphere of earth (National missile defense, 2000).
History
The new missile defense program started in 1993 after the Department of Defense
decided to conduct a review that would select the strategy, force structure, and
modernization programs for America s defense in the post Cold War era. When
the U. S. S. R. broke apart, it was decided that there was not much of a threat from
China or the former Soviet Union. However, it was uncertain how easy it would be
for a third world country to come into possession of long range missiles. In response
to their uncertainty, the Defense Department built the National Missile Defense in
order to develop and keep the ability to launch a missile defense if a threat emerged
(National missile defense, 2000).
In 1994, Congress called for a great acceleration in the development of the missile
defense system. This call represented a sense

A Comparison Of The Knight And The Squire In Chaucers
The...
In the medieval period that is described by Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, chivalry was
perhaps the most recognized quality of a true gentleman. This quality is explored in
Chaucer s two characters of the warrior class, the
Knight and the Squire. The squire is the son of the Knight; both ride gallantly and
have the air of true gentleman warriors. However, the two are very dissimilar despite
their appearances. The Knight possesses the true qualities of chivalry, devotion to
service, constancy in humility, and honesty. The Squire possesses none of these
qualities truly; instead his demeanor is one that is less honorable and virtuous.
Although both claim the same vocation, the Squire and the Knight display
contradicting attitudes in respect to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Chaucer does not criticize the
Squire by his writing, the Squire s hesitant attitude towards putting himself in mortal
danger as well as his lack of conviction are revealed in light of the Knight s numerous
demonstrations of a willingness to defend his faith single handedly and also in
extreme hardship and distance.
In addition to Chaucer s descriptions of dedication that distinguish the
Knight, Chaucer also provides a description of the Squire s acquisitiveness for
wealth and beauty, a quality that is contrary to the humble nature of the knight. The
Squire had quot;locks as curly as if they had been pressed quot;, while there is no
such description of the Knight s appearance whatsoever
(5). I feel that Chaucer does not intend to criticize the Squire by the mention of the
beauty of the Squire s hair in conjunction with the mention of the poor outfit of the
Knight. Instead he attempts to point out that the
Squire is the lesser of the two in terms of keeping to the code of chivalry.
Regarding his articles of clothing, the Knight wore a fustian tunic, which was only
somewhat bright and only sufficiently comfortable. An example of the Squire s
meticulous appearance is:
He was embroidered like a meadow bright
And full of freshest flowers, red and white.
. . . He was as fresh as is the month of May.
Lancet Tone Deafness
Tone Deafness
Few people know the range of the different types of tone deafness. However, many
people think they have it. Tone deafness is does not refer to a problem with the
ears, but to a lack of training. Tone deafness is easy to fix by training the ears and
the vocal muscles. Lancet is a music professor in Boston who is tone deaf (Lancet
2001). Lancet express, tone deafness is a term that tends to be applied
indiscriminately to a constellation of music processing, perceptual, and production
deficits (Lancet 2001). This paper will examine the tone deafness real life terms, the
past and current research, and current direction which all contribute to its need for
exploration.

Singing is optional. Reaching for things is not. We all develop hand eye
coordination as a part of our basic survival skills. Nevertheless, we could go our
whole lives without singing and be fine. We want to sing, but we have to make a
conscious effort to learn. Some people make this effort as children, and we assume
they were born with it. This is not so. As with anything, it comes more naturally to
some than to others, but we all have to learn. Numerous people believe that tone
deafness does not exist. Many people believe that they are tone deaf (Lancet 2001).
Nevertheless, I do not believe that they are tone deaf, in other words, people who
will never be able to learn to distinguish between notes.
Many of the tone deaf people have been able to work on their problem, and by
correcting their singing techniques, as well as releasing their constrictions, they
have learned to sing in tune. Tone deaf singers often have severe constrictions
around their vocal cords (Gandour, 2000). Usually they have had these tensions
for such a long time that they no longer feel like tensions. A person often finds
psychological reasons for these tensions (Gandour, 2000). Gandour states,
frequently a singer has been thoroughly deprived of his or hers self confidence
regarding the voice (2000). One can lose his or her self confidence for many
reasons. For example, I was singled out as the one in the church choir who was
spoiling the sound of the choir and by being the
Human Nature In The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
The book The Lion,The Witch and The Wardrobe is the first book in The
Chronicles of Narnia, setting the scene for the beloved series. While many of the
characters in the book are non humans they can still show a lot about human nature.
Although good and bad are really only concepts and nothing is set in stone we still
use them to describe almost everything. Throughout the book the children,Susan,
Peter, Edmund and Lucy seem to take on the roles of heroes or saviors in the story.
Lucy specifically also represents the innocence of children and how naturally good
humans are at young age. Overall throughout the book C.S Lewis shows that human
nature is basically good in this world. In Narniathere are many creatures that help
create a whimsical and fun story but, none of the creatures are human. The only
people in Narnia are the four visiting children who are called Daughters of Eve and
Sons of Adam . Humans seem to be very respected in this land most likely from...

I personally believe that as we grow up we lose that sense of everything is good
and that turns into everything is bad. Lucy throughout the book represents wonder
and childlike goodness. When Peter, Susan and Edmund did not believe Lucy they
blamed it on her young mind making things up. Later in the book Lucy becomes
the most kind and compassionate child and the real leader of there decent into
Narnia. Lucy felt very frightened, but she felt inquisitive and excited as well. She
looked back over her shoulder and there, between the dark tree trunks, she could
still see the open doorway of the wardrobe and even catch a glimpse of the empty
room from which she had set out. (Lewis,7) This quote shows how young Lucy
really was by saying how even though she was scared she still moved forward.
Overall Lucy was extremely good natured as a human in this story helping anyone

Prostate Cancer
Abstract
Prostate cancer is one of the major health concerns of the public. Worldwide
prostate cancer has affected a big portion of the population and has become an

Prostate cancer refers to the malignant growth of glandular cells located in the
prostate. Under normal circumstances these cells sit in the glands which are
responsible for the production of fluids that make up most of the semen in males
[2]. However once these cells lose their control, what happens is that they will
keep on growing until they become cancerous [2]. Ultimately this means that the
natural surrounding layers that did act like barriers for these cells are now broken
and therefore allows the spread of these malignant cells to other organs within the
body, particularly the bones and lymph nodes [2]. When this does take place the risk
of death also increases. At the age of 85, a man is said to have a 1 in 5 chances of
developing prostate cancer sometime in their life. The risk is said to double if a
male has a first degree relative who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Clinical features: Symptoms and signs
Every human body is slightly different in their own way and because of this reason
there are people who do not experience symptoms of prostate cancer [3].
Unfortunately Prostate cancer is a disease that does not give any warning signs
when it is growing. In most cases a male with prostate cancer does not receive any
specific symptoms of concerns; reason is that prostate cancer
Root Cause Analysis In Healthcare Organization
A root cause analysis (RCA), an organized protocol or procedure, institutes a means
of analyzing a sentinel or adverse event that occurs within a healthcare facility,
ultimately uncovering causes of problems or errors. U.S. hospitals are required to
keep confidential records within the facility of adverse reactions, yet RCAs are
mandated to accompany a reported sentinel event to the accreditation organization,
the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and
other organizations (AHRQ 2014). Various members from all aspects of the hospital
form a multidisciplinary team to analyze, evaluate, and resolve errors with the goal of
prevention of future adverse, sentinel events. A RCA allows for concentration on
events and underlying problems that contributed to the incident rather than focusing
on individual actions and behaviors (AHRQ 2012).

Niccolo Machiavelli The Prince
A successful prince should be free from the moral limitations of the church, secure
in his power because of military strength and unpredictable in his ruling decisions.
Niccolo Machiavelli is writing The Prince with the purpose to focus on practical
advice and not to encourage obedience to perfect or extreme ideals. Rulers should
focus on gaining or protecting power and not worry about the gaps between what
actually works and what is the religious way of virtue. The concern is not on being
guided by ethicsbut on winning. Machiavelli believes that human nature is a
mixture of both good and evil, but political power needs to be based on what
actually works and gets results, in order to prevent the evil conflict caused by a weak

My Biggest Perspective Change
Have you ever been caught in a rush hour traffic moving at the speed of light? For a
whole one year during my CO OP I commuted to and fro Toronto on one of the
busiest highway of North America and it was no fun. I ve raced, tailgated, changed
lanes without using indicators, ranted and seethed at slow drivers and everything I
could to save as little as five minutes to reach my destination. And I considered
myself a skillful driver at that time. Not knowing that the opposite might also be true
if I look at it from a different perspective. We usually tend to have a one sided
opinion about certain things until we experience the both sides of the story ourselves.
This phenomenon of naГЇve realism was well presented in the class along with
different TEDTalk videos to support the argument among which the most prominent
and thought provoking was the talk on Believing Strange Things by Micheal Shermer.
Controversial topics have always sparked my interest and regardless of what opinion
I have about them, it gets my full attention. Like all the other intriguing videos
presented in class, Michael Shermer delivered his fifteen minutes presentation on the
human perception of believing in strange things is derived from our sub conscious
mind of believing anything which will accepted by the masses. Before coming to
his main point, he presents a bad engineering idea such a drug detector, which costs
around $900 and only works 50% of the time. For some, it works 100% perfect 50%

Qin Dynasty Dbq Essay
The earliest Emperor of the Qin dynasty was Qin Shi Huang, who was born in
259BCE and ultimately came into power at the age of 21. Despite accomplishing
many significant achievements, he attained this in a brutal and callous way.
Arguments that will be clearly discussed and explained in this assignment to
emphasize the negative aspects of Qin Shi Huangare: the severe punishments he
enforced for criminals, his fierce and deceitful war strategies and the prohibiting and
burning of Confucius teachings.
Qin Shi Huang was feared by his subjects as he was seen as a barbaric and ruthless
autocrat who took extreme measures to preclude rebellion in his empire, mostly by
enforcing severe punishments for criminals. (Source 1) The penalty for major crime
Professional Negligence Case
1. Review the hypothetical scenario at the beginning of this chapter. Has professional
negligence been committed? What defenses can be raised?
In the case of the attorney who is a recent law school graduate, he can be held
negligent if he had no training or experience in automobile accidents claims, because
failure to have skills and learning commonly possessed by members in good standing
within a profession, constitutes professional negligence. In addition, if the lawyer
failed to deliver competent professional service that resulted in the client s suffering
damages, then professional negligence can be charged as well.
Like in this legal disciplinary proceeding: Toledo Bar Association v. Hales, 120 Ohio,
St.3d 340 (Sup.Ct. 2008), where

Throughout my reflections as previously discussed I have felt under confident and

received from my tutor and mentor in relation to the course has been positive on
the whole. There were highlighted areas for development such as varying the
techniques I use such as pair and group work. This I will try and do but it has been
difficult to address as we have the students for a short about of time and a lot of
work to complete. It is something I am trying to work on and will endeavour to
achieve these aspirations in the coming months. The second area of development
was given to me by my mentor, it was that I talk very quickly while heading the
class and do not allocate enough time for students to answer my questions. This I
think is down to nerves when being observed. Hopefully with the further
experience I have achieved I have slowed myself down for the next observation I
have. In planning appropriate opportunities to address these identified learning
needs as been quite difficult as I only have approximately 9 weeks left at work
before maternity but I will maintain to keep focussed and improve in that time.

Why Become A Cardiologist
Have you ever wanted to help someone that was hurt or unable to heal on their
own? Have you ever felt the need to assist in saving someone s life? That s what I
would love to accomplish when I grow up and I believe that cardiology would be the
best fit for me! Cardiology has always been a part of me in certain ways. When I was
younger, I would always say that I would wish to be a cop or a soldier within the
army, but then again what eight year old boy didn t say that. As I began to grow
physically and mentally, my view of the world became much more transparent, and I
began to lean towards the profession of cardiology. From there, leaning lead to

In addition to the circumstances that I had, there are other reasonings as to why
cardiology intrigues me. My second reason as to why I would like to become a
cardiologist is the fact that I would be able to lend a hand to people and charities.
If that doesn t appeal to your brain, then let me break it down for you. If I were to
become a cardiologist, then I would help save lives, but I would also acquire a
high salary. The average salary of a well worked and well payed cardiologist would
be around the sum of 300 thousand dollars! With such a massive source of income,
I could relinquish my profits within charities with the greatest needs. That way, I
could help multitudes of people in need. Needless to say, due to the immense
income I would be receiving, I would be able to do more than just donate to
charities and work in a hospital for I would be able to set up free clinics and put my
time and effort into important causes. That way I can be satisfied whilst at work and
in free time with the effort I would put in. That is just one other reason as to why I
feel that cardiology would be the pathway into a

Mostly CBIR is applied on the Multimedia data.
CBIR faces some problems. The trouble with the technique is the issue of high

children successfully manage their asthma. Successful school based asthma programs

The outcome is there are less absenteeism s of the students who receive self
management education from the school nurse versus those students who do not
receive self education. Asthmatic children miss three times as many school days
and have 1.7 times the risk of learning disabilities as children without asthma;
therefore, at risk for poor school performance (Portwood Nelson, 2013).
Approximately 9.2 million children younger than 18 years old have been diagnosed
with asthma; 3.2 million or approximately 6 percent of children five to seventeen
have had an asthma attack within the year (CDC, 2013). Asthma friendly schools
make an effort to create a safe and supportive learning environment for students with
asthma. Research and case studies looked at the best approaches to manage
asthmatic children in schools and found schools that collaborate with asthma care
clinicians to ensure care, schools that have strong administration that support school
nurses and support asthma education for faculty and staff, and schools that support
evaluation of school based programs and use asthma action plans have fewer
school absentees (CDC, 2013). School absenteeism may be related to poor
academic performance, is costing to the parent due to lost wages from the inability

Canto Xx of Dante s Inferno
An Analysis of The Souls Damned in Canto XX from Dante Alighieri s Inferno
Introduction
Virgil and Dante find themselves in Circle Eight, Bolgia Four. The damned in this
circle are all diviners and soothsayers, viewed by Dante as practitioners of impious
and unlawful arts who attempt to avert God s designs by their predictions. Virgil
implies that those who do prophesy believe that God Himself is passive in the face of
their attempts to foresee, and possibly change, the future. For such impiety, those who
have tried to look forward now have their heads turned backward on their bodies.
Among these damned are Amphiareus, Tiresias, Aruns, Manto, Eurypylus, Michael
Scott, Guido Bonatti, and Asdente.

Conclusion During Dante s time, fortune telling and sorcery is prevalent in Italy.
Diviners and soothsayers are found in different works of literature such as
Sophocles Oedipus Rex and Ovid s Metamorphoses. Medieval people from all
walks of life a shoemaker, astrologer, scientist, military adviser and kings believe in
the craft of fortune telling and follow what the soothsayers said even if it means
putting people into exile and not attending a war. Canto XX mentioned one of the
7 kings who fought against Thebes, a blind soothsayer from Greek Mythology, a
soothsayer from Etruia, a sorceress, an irish scholar who dealt with the occult, a
court astrologer and a military adviser all of them reflected the practice of the
forbidden arts before and during Dante s time and until now it is still widely
accepted and promoted by people. There are horoscope sections in the newspaper
and magazines, false prophets and fortune tellers are found everywhere in the
archipelago. It is ironic that there are dozens of fortune tellers in front of the
Quaipo Church when it is supposed to be a house of God and place of worship, not a
place of sin.
In keeping with Dante s theme of Divine Retribution, the Fortune Tellers and
Diviners have their heads on backwards, their tears ran down their backs, and down
the between the cleft of their buttocks . These are the souls who, on Earth, tried to
see too far ahead of them, and thus will spend eternity forever looking behind
How Did John Steinbeck Embrace Realism
The world that John Steinbeck lived him shaped his views on the world. This
caused him to embrace realism. Realism is defined as the attitude or practice of
accepting a situation as it is and being prepared to deal with it accordingly. He
concentrates his writings on the idea of group , having company of others
especially if they are going through the same things as you, and he also believes
that naturalism is the world and the population of the world is as much of a jungle
as anything that nature has created, in this case the natural world is a perfect
parallel to modern life. In Of Mice and Men the novel, the characters Lennie and
Curly s wife are defeated simply because of their dreams and the things they do to try
to achieve them. Lennie s

How different are the roles of women in real life and in fairy tales? Women have
very different roles in fairy tales than they do in real life. In fairy tales, women can
t choose who they marry and they can t own their own land. In real life women have
the choice to own land and marry who they choose. In some of the fairy tales the role
of the women would clean the house and make meals.
In the fairy tale Cinderella, there are two different personalities of women. One is
beautiful, kind, obedient, and listening. The other personality is the evil, ugly and
ambitious. Cinderella is the beautiful woman and in the fairy tale she doesn t have
any ambition. For her stepmother and her two stepsisters they were ugly and jealous
of Cinderella s beauty and they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story the Queen and Snow White are equally beautiful but they have different
levels of purity. The ideal beauty remains pure and passive. In some versions of
Snow White she is afraid of everything, and in other versions she is smart and gets
trained and becomes a fighter to fight against the Queen.
The last fairy tale is Sleeping beauty and it s about how a king and queen have a child
and they have fairies give wishes to the child and there was one fairy who was
forgotten and she decided to put a curse on the child. She was jealous of the child s
beauty and when the child turns 16 she has a spindle and the girl pricks her finger
while spinning it. She is put in a tower to wait for a true love s kiss to awake her. It
takes 100 years but a prince comes to the tower and kisses her and she wakes up.
A summary of these fairy tales, the real mothers have no sense of presence. The
princes are always right and they always win in the end. Ambitious women are ugly
and evil. Good women are beautiful, submissive, want to marry and they aren t
The And Cultural Impact Of Kanye West
In Greek mythology, the Mousai are the goddesses of music. In various Native
American tribes, Kokopelli signifies musical sound. Also, The Egyptian goddess
of music is Hathor. And last, but not least there s the self proclaimed god of music
Kanye west. No matter the time period certain musical names are respected even if
you ve never heard a single song from them. For example, The Beatles, Elvis
Presley, and Jimmy Hendrix are well known and, for the most part, considered in the
top ten artists of all time. However, making good music does not lead to instant
success. An artist must create a fan base, continuously release high quality music, and
have some social impact. Kanye Westis one of the most influential artists of all time
due to his musical variation, critically acclaimed awards, and cultural impact. When
it comes to artists Kanye West is by far the most experimental with his work. Kanye
west s freshman album The College Dropoutbrought a new sound to the rap genre.
Also, He continued to move toward more maximalistic production on his next two
albums, Late Registration and Graduation...But it was his 2008 album, 808s
Heartbreak, that may be his most influential as he stripped away the samples and
relied almost entirely on synthesizers and Auto Tune as instruments. (Ryan. Is Kanye

Out Of The Silent Planet Hero s Journey
In the postmodern period of films, film makers are constantly pushing the boundaries
of genre definitions, as well as putting different genres into various new
combinations. One such combination is the fantasy adventure genre; This genre can
be defined as narratives in which an otherworldly figure or situation interrupts the
human real world or a human is a part of an otherworldly lifestyle. Within these
parameters, the protagonist must overcome obstacles in a world full of physical and
moral peril and accomplish a critical mission in order to save the society from
whence they came. In short, the fantasyadventure genrecomes from the use of
adventure stories to realistically ground the fantastical surroundings and situations in

commonly found throughout the fantasy genre, and especially in these stories,
because they serve two of the functions of fantasy: recovery or seeing as we were

Even Yoda had a lovable look to him. On the other hand, while the creatures on

Edith Wharton s use of Irony in Age of Innocense
Throughout the novel, the author s voice appears to criticize the empty morals of
Old New York, where she once belonged. With refined use of irony, Wharton
explored the established social order that prevented individuals to deviate from the
traditional structure. The novel s Archer Newland is one who failed to break
through barriers of convention and can t escape steely embrace of the tribe
(Auchincloss 44). Despite being the protagonist, Archer fails to break away from
the tight knit group. Archer s life is in a settled pattern; His indecisiveness
prevents expression (McDowall 54). In the beginning of the novel, Archer acts
according to the molded product he is supposed to be. Archer was proud to be a
New Yorker, someone in the upper class with refined taste and morals. This ended
when Countess Olenska returned to New York, in want of a divorce with her
husband in Europe. The New York family wanted to prevent this divorce because
of propriety. They send Archer, a lawyer, to convince Ellen against it. As the story
goes, Archer falls in love with Ellen because of her mysteriousness of
unconventionality. By acting as the family s messenger, Archer sabotages his own
quest . Due to inconvenience, Archer wants to overthrow the principles he once
lived by (Hadley 37). He suddenly realized That terrifying product of the social
system he belonged to and believed in, the young girl who knew nothing and

Examples Of Hester Prynne Transformation
The Scarlet Letter: The Transformation of Hester Prynne Throughout The Scarlet
Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, there is a tremendous transformation
shown in the protagonist, Hester Prynne. This novel was about how Hester had
done a great sin, and was to wear a scarlet A on her chest. The red letter on Hester s
clothing was to remind her every day of her wrong doing and to leave Hester living
in guilt for the rest of her life. Hester then spends the next years of her life being an
outcast from society with her daughter, who was the outcome of the terrible sin she
committed. Even though the scarlet letterwas an embroidered fabric, the scarlet A

As Hester s story in The Scarlet Letter progressed, she became more independent. She
started to question the community s thinking, and decided to accept the sin she
committed rather than live in self pity. Hester did not need to be dependent on a man,
which was not ordinary during this time period. Instead, Hester was dependent on
herself and spent her focus on her daughter or the poor, caring for young Pearl and
attending to the less fortunate. Hester Prynne also began to think more freely, and did
not restrict herself to thinking the same way all the puritans had done. After going
through suffering and embarrassment because of her crime, Hester realized that she
was not enemy, but society was. With the shameful thoughts towards the scarlet letter
on her clothing drifting away, the A had transformed into a symbol of independence,
growth, and how Hester became to be the person she was when she had finally

Slavery In Mario Puzo s The Fortunate Pilgrim
In Mario Puzo s book The Fortunate Pilgrim, he highlights the struggles of Italian
immigrants coming to America through one family. Using the Angeluzzi Corbo
family Puzo is able to show the struggles of living in a new country, giving up old
ways, and adapting to new customs. He shows the immigrants struggles the best by
using Lucia Santa, the mother and the rock of the Angeluzzi Corbo family. By using
Lucia, Puzo is able to make the reader see her struggle of keeping her family safe
from the harshness of the outside world. Lucia is mainly concerned that her
children do not lose the Italian ways and that she can continue to provide for her
family. While reading the book the reader can see how Lucia struggles keeping all
six of her children, specifically Larry and Octavia safe from the outside world.
Larry and Octavia are at odds with Lucia a lot throughout the book because they
are her eldest children, are the least dependent on her, and the most tempted by the
outside world. Through an array of problems Lucia Santa struggles to protect her
family from the harshness of the new world and make sure her children grow up to
be respectable adults with strong old world Italian values. Lucia s goal for her
family is to make sure that she can raise them right to survive in the harshness of
America. Her biggest struggles come through her oldest children as they will be the
first to venture out on their own, but after much strife they end up being two of her
biggest success.

Analysis Of Crooks In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Crooks is one of the prime representations of loneliness. Being black at the time of
the great depression, he is treated as an inferior being, despite being clever and
literate (a rare thing for a farm worker in those times). He is also considered
disabled, although he only has a minor injury that does not prevent him from doing
his job on the farm. This is because he is a negro buck , since black people were
treated as slaves and had no place in society during these times. Steinbeck shows
this by giving Crooks his own place in the barn alongside the ranch animals, and
using a specific choice of words to describe Crook s shed a little shed that leaned of
the wall of the barn as if to say that Crooks is not strong enough to survive on his...

Student Success And Support Services Program Essay
Research/Policy Topic Analysis: Student Success and Support Services Program
(SSSP)
Background
The Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) for California community
colleges arose as a result of the Senate Bill 1456 with a mission to increase California
community college student access and success by providing effective core
matriculation services, including orientation, assessment and placement, counseling,
and other educational planning services, and academic interventions, or follow up
services for at risk students (Graillat, Lawrence, Quiaoit Mohr, 2016, p. 4). While
this Senate Bill established the SSSP, there were other acts and bills that came before
that eventually paved the way for the Student Success and Support Program.
The Seymour Campbell Matriculation Act of 1986 created the matriculation process
for continuing and incoming students taking courses for credit. The idea was that
there should be an equal educational opportunity across California and that this
would be accomplished through having the same educational services across
campuses that would help students reach their educational goals (Graillat et al.,
2016). Furthermore, in 1990, the Board of Governors (BOG) specified what the
regulations would be for implementing the matriculation process (Graillat et al.,
2016). In 1997 and 1998, Assembly Bill (AB) 1542 and AB 107 were passed. These
bills extended these services to students taking noncredit courses (Graillat et al.,
2016). While the goal of
Marianne Moore s The Fish Essay
Marianne Moore s nature and artistic background contribute to her modernist style
and is prominent in her poem The Fish. Marianne Moore wrote in the 1930 s, a
decade of change. Moore is characterized as a writer who uses overall nature, art,
life, modesty, and humor. Her writing is recognized by its descriptions, and
observations of people, places, animals, and art. Her poems reflect the relationship
between common and uncommon ( Marianne MoorePoetryFoundation). Marianne
Moore s biographical background contributes to her symbolic writings. Moore s
mother is the person who most inspired her. She came from a divorced home and
lived with her mother and her grandfather. He was a presbyterian pastor. Her father
was absent in her life due to the fact that he was also institutionalized. Moore s
early jobs inspire the nature part of her writings. After college, she was in charge
of the commercial department of the United States Indian School at Carlisle. She
taught subjects such as bookkeeping and typing to young Indians. In 1918, she
decided to move to New York where she taught at a private school. Three years
later she was an assistant at the Hudson Park branch of the New York Public
Library (Garrigue 194). Moore s early career choices to be a painter and interest in
biology influenced the scientific and artistic aspect of her poetry. She wanted to be a
painter like Carlos Williams. She decided to study medicine and caught an interest for
biology. In an interview she

The Yellow Wallpaper By Charlotte Perkins Gilman Essay
I don t like to look out of the windows even there are so many of those creeping
women, and they creep so fast. I wonder if they all come out of that wallpaper as I
did? the woman behind the pattern was an image of herself. She has been the one
stooping and creeping. The Yellow Wallpaper was written by Charlotte Perkins
Gilman. In the story, three characters are introduced, Jane (the narrator), John, and
Jennie. The Yellow Wallpaper
is an ironic story that takes us inside the mind and
emotions of a woman suffering a slow mental breakdown. The narrator begins to
think that another woman is creeping around the room behind the wallpaper,
attempting to break free , so she locks herself in the room and begins to tear down
pieces of the wallpaper to rescue this trapped woman. To end the story, John unlocks
the door and finds Jane almost possessed by the woman behind the wallpaper.
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s feminist background gives a feminist standpoint in The
Yellow Wallpaper because the narrator s husband, John acts superior to the narrator.
One can pick out the connections between the author and the narrator in the story
fairly easy if there is knowledge of Gilman s life. For example, the piece titled Why
I Wrote The Yellow Wallpaper by Gilman, she states that she suffered from a severe
and continuous nervous breakdown, similar to what the narrator went through in The
Yellow Wallpaper. Also, she said her doctor concluded there was nothing wrong with

Modernism Defined in T.S. Eliot s The Love Song of J....
Modernism is by no means easy to define. In fact, no one is exactly sure if the
movement has even ended yet. But that s befitting of the period, as well as the
pieces of literature that serve to define Modernism. Two pieces, T.S. Eliot s The
Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock and James Joyce s The Dead , are epitomes of this
modernism. In both, the main characters are paralyzed by an inability to
communicate, even while speaking. Whether through Prufrock s musings concerning
lovelife, or Gabriel s inability to evoke certain feelings out of his wife, both men
experience this effeminization of the intellect and communication. But where does
this communicative castration begin? Most likely, in the bustling metropolises and
dehumanizing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the identity less J. Alfred Prufrock and Gabriel Conroy, through various
literary techniques, are shown to be in a perpetual decadence, as are their
surroundings. In this vein, I will exemplify in T.S. Eliot s J. Alfred Prufrock and
James Joyce s The Dead how, firstly, the main character s stories are similar in
metaphorical movements represented by their physical environments, secondly,
how these characters differ from antithetic Romantic characters, and lastly, how
both men s relationships are affected by their decadence of identity. In both pieces,
we see a downward movement in the narratives that are either represented by, or
happen in, the physical world. In Eliot s poem, the storyline begins spread out
against the sky , followed by a yellow mist that slides along the street (ll. 2, 24).
Soon after, the narrator says he should be scuttling across the floors of the sea and
by the end of the poem he has done just that, saying We have lingered in the
chambers of the sea (ll. 74, 130). The movement from the sky to the bottom of the
sea is crucial to the poem. One might interpret it as a decent into a hell of sorts,
psychological or otherwise. Regardless of interpretation, we can feel the narrators
increased torment and agony at falling into this chasm of nonidentity. There is also a

A Modest Proposal By Johnathan Swift
Does Johnathan Swift actually believe cannibalism will help the economy? Besides
the obvious health concerns about cannibalism, Johnathan Swift does make some
odd but questionably thought out points, however there is evidence to prove that
Swift is only being satirical. This evidence can be seen in Swift s past, where he has
offered real solutions to Irelands economic problems, only to be ignored. In a
frustrated attempt to get attention, he came up with the the famous A Modest Proposal
, where he detailed a disgraceful way to increase profits. Satirecan also be shown here
where he refers to women as breeders, and compares the poor to animals. Finally, a
satirical quality that is the most adherent is the small dry jokes that he makes.
Firstly, in spite of how it may appear, Johnathan Swift is not a mad man who
believes cannibalism will fix the economy s problems. As stated before, Swift had
made multiple attempts to garner attention to his proposals, but to no avail. He s
even made pamphlets in the past describing ways to help the economy. These
pamphlets also detailed his disdain for England, but nonetheless, he tried. Throughout
the proposal, he expresses his anger towards Ireland s colonial rule under England, in
hopes of getting at least one of his points across. ... Show more content on

Laertes Foil Of Hamlet
Hamlet is a play by William Shakespeare that follows Hamlet as his father is
murdered by his uncle Claudius, who marries Hamlet s mother and claims the
throne. Hamlet takes a very deliberate and pensive approach to gaining revenge. In
this slow process, he accidentally murders Polonius, thinking him to be the King
eavesdropping. This leads to the wrath of Laertes, who takes a very different
approach to revenge. Through Laertes foil of Hamlet, the futility of passionate
revenge is revealed.
Both Laertes and Hamlet experience similar events in their lives. Both men lose their
father to murder. Both men know who murdered their father, and both men desire
revenge. Laertes exclaims that he will be revenged / Most throughly for [his] father.

The Use Of Quantum Mechanics On The Entertainment
Industry
Without the help of quantum mechanics, life would be almost unrecognizable when
compared to what it looks like it does today. It is incorporated into nearly every
aspect of modern life, many of which are taken for granted. The entertainment
industry is no different. Everything from TVs and DVD and Blu ray players to video
gameconsoles and even some types of stage lights would not be made possible
without the use of quantum mechanics. Without the discovery of quantum
mechanics, the entertainment industry would be nothing like the industry of today.
DVD Blu ray players are a relatively new innovation when it comes to home
entertainment and could not be made possible without their quantum mechanics
inspired laser technology. Lasers work by utilizing Schrodinger s equation to predict
where an electron is at any given moment. When atoms are excited, their electrons
gain energy and move up an energy level, and when the electrons return to their initial
energy level, they release photons causing light to be emitted. The light of a laser is
only one color because it is only made up of one wavelength. The photons of a
laser are all concentrated into a small beam, making it strong unlike the beams of
regular light. Both devices work when a laser reads pits or marks on the disk
which the machine then interprets into a movie or video game. Where DVD and
Blu ray differ however, is the marks on a Blu ray disk are much smaller and therefore
requires a better and more precise laser to
Teen Pregnancy And Teenage Pregnancy
Teen pregnancy is something that affects over one million young teens in the United
States. For some, these pregnancies are planned but 85% of these teens the
pregnancy is unplanned. This can cause a lot of endless problems in the life of the
teen and the newborn child. There are a lot of things that can cause an unplanned teen
pregnancy, such as teens experimenting with sexual encounters at a young age.
Another major cause is the lack of guidance due to guardians that are blind or do not
want to believe in such activities. These causes can have devastating effects on the
teen and the newborn in the household. Some effects of early pregnancy will include
an unexpected rise of responsibility for the teen and can cause many health concerns
for both teen and newborn child.
Teens experimenting are the leading cause in the unplanned pregnancies. As a
teenager in high school ages there are a lot of peer pressures. Such as experimenting
with alcohol and unprotected sexual intercourse. Drinking and the use of narcotics
also largely have an impact on the judgment of the teen before the pre pregnancy
comes about. Experimenting can cause many effects on the teen and the relationships
at hand, including the relationships with the baby s mom or dad and also the parents
of the teens. Another way of experimenting is the pregnancy caused in the sequel of
either a long time dating of the boyfriend or the other case of those random one night
stands or hook ups. Experimenting can be well

Current scenario
The current scenario has 1,000 employees in an Organization, with ten departments
being separated equally geographically and we have a common data center with 20
servers.
Let us assume in 10 departments, we have 100 employees in each of them. These 10
departments update their process and files/data to the data center. The problem could
rise on the single support connected to the data center because of the limited
resources.
All the departments are connected to the center via one single line this could lead to
problems as follows: Throughput: The throughput is the measure of the bandwidth
under given scenario; it decreases with increase in the traffic and number of
simultaneous connections to the network line. The throughput ... Show more content

Therefore, whereas computers simply use these scientific discipline addresses to

Risk Taking Essay
Khendee Casallo Humanities 151 Do you feel that taking genuine risks in life is
necessary in order for us to be happy? Can people find fulfillment and happiness in
life by playing it safe and not courting any trouble or hardship from taking chances?
The word risk means the possibility of suffering a harmful event. Risk taking can
bring either positive or negative result because anytime we take risks in life, there
is a possibility of loss which can cause tension. There are a lot of people who take
big risks and appear not to be affected by them. But, many of us feel very uneasy
when faced with risk taking; we may become worried about the risk. Although some
people are content in life by just playing it safe and not courting any... Show more

It s the challenge itself that people learn from. There isn t any point to making
things a challenge for no good reason so it s about taking on the right challenges
and calculating risks to a point that justifies them when compared to the challenge
that is faced to accomplish them. Truth be told, it was a challenged for me to take
that risk and slide down the tube tunnel and I did not regret doing so because I
know at that point thats what I wanted. If it hadn t been for that challenge, I
wouldn t be able to see what I am capable of doing. Taking risks is done with some
purpose in mind as well. There isn t any point in taking risks that don t pay off.
There are hundreds of things that require risks in order to make them happen.
Innovation is a big one of those. Innovation is when you look for new ways of
doing things, building things or perhaps new ideas. This requires breaking new
ground that no one has done before and so there are always risks involved. People
who are hesitant to take risks will become stagnant with no ability to innovate or
change for there is no such thing as constant in this world, there are always going
to be changes and new invention coming up. When we were young we really didn
t understand what risks were, we just did things as we saw fit to do them.
Sometimes as older individuals we need to take risks as we did when were young.
Instead of the over analyzing and the procrastination sometimes we just have to look

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless and odorless gas. It is produced by appliances,
heaters, generators, and motor vehicles that run on gasoline, diesel fuel, propane,
natural gas, oil, kerosene, or burning wood. It is dangerous to breathe in CO because
it lowers the oxygen in your blood. Every year, many people are treated for CO
poisoning. In some cases, CO poisoning can be deadly. Children, older people, and
people with lung disease are at higher risk for CO poisoning.
What actions can I take to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning?

Essay On Haiti Earthquake
Haiti has traditionally been the poorest country in the Western hemisphere and has
repeatedly been a victim of natural disasters such as hurricanes, torrential rains, floods
and earthquakes. Several natural disasters have plagued the country, destroying
everything, and affecting everyone s health, specifically women s and children s.
These uncontrolled and unexpected events such as Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane
Ike have caused spikes in health issues such as cholera, AIDS, unwanted pregnancies
and children who lack proper care. On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 magnitude earthquake
hit Haitioriginating from a point 25 miles away from the capital of Port au Prince.
Photographic evidence and first hand reports made it immediately evident that there
was massive physical damage and that the loss of life would be high. Food and water
made its way slowly and insufficiently to the survivors; rescue and medical
workers could not save all the trapped and wounded (Petersen). However, some of
the greatest problems occurred weeks, months or even years later. Haiti has tried to
abide by the Child Rights Convention s Article Six that states that every child has an
inherent right to life, but it has been difficult. An examination of the effects of the
earthquake and the resulting problems focusing on healthcare such as women s safety
and reproductive care, the spread of diseases, the impact of poverty and the decline in
the mental and physical stability of the youth, demonstrates the negative impacts the
disaster had, especially on the country s children.
The 2010 earthquake left Haiti s people in shock and confusion, causing the women
many issues with both their safety and reproductive health. In the aftermath of a
disaster, women and girls are extremely vulnerable to sexual coercion and violence.
In Haiti the breakdown of law and order, and the growing civil unrest, placed
women and girls at a significantly increased risk (Claeys). After the the quake,
women had a lot of trouble finding or affording contraceptives and as a result, some
women could not use protection regularly or discontinued using contraception
altogether (Balsari). This opened a door to a huge number of issues, one being that an
unprotected women is more
The Art Of Being Hum Role Of Myth
In the textbook: The Art Of Being Human Chapter 3 is about the role of myth in
the humanities. Before art was made there was something called mythology. In
every religion, there is a hero and that hero was prophesied to save the world or
save the people that believed in that religion or followed the rules by granting them
eternal life or afterlife in a promised land. The humanities could be found in
mythology. This essay will talk about how mythology, in the role of humanities,
should be considered nonfiction or real.
The birth of the hero may come in an extraordinary circumstance such as the womb
of a virgin or a mortal woman impregnated by a god. That hero is always a man. In
Greek culture, that hero is Hercules, son of Zeus and a mortal woman. In Christian
Culture the hero is Jesus, son of God and the Virgin Mary. His birth was announced
by an angel and took place in an inn. Both births are similar because they were both
born with fathers that are gods and mothers that are mortals. Muhammad from
Islamic religion was also born from a virgin mother and announced by an angel. His
mother Aminah and was visited by Mary, Eve, and Asiya during the birth and
Muhammed became a prophet just like Jesus. ... Show more content on

They all have a similarity; the hero starts showing signs of superhuman powers.
Right after Hercules was born Zeus s wife sent two snakes to kill him but failed
cause Hercules was unusually strong and strangled the snakes before they could
bite him. Theseus proved at age 16 that he was strong enough to push a giant
boulder off of something his father buried in the earth long ago. He along with Zeus
were both physically strong since birth. Jesus at a young age turned water into wine
at the marriage of Cana and that was when his followers started seeing him as a holy

According to Sohail, Roy, Saeed and Ahmed,2007; Kwortnik , 2005) researchers
generally agree that service quality is not a uni dimensional assemble that reflects
whether a firm s customer service is superb or meagre. Instead service quality
symbolizes a combination of factors that determine customers perceptions about the
offering. Service quality is not objectively measured according to some technical
standards but is subjectively felt by customers and measured relative to customer
determined standards. Thus, service quality is the gap between perceived service
delivered and expected service.
As a result, service quality is defined similarly, as a comparative function between
consumer expectations and actual service performance (Iacobucci and Ostrom, 1995;
Parasuraman et al.,1985)
Because of economic improvements, a long term and commonly advantageous
relationship between the customer and the hotel is becoming progressively more
important. Companies with satisfied consumers benefit from higher margins and
consequently greater profits than do businesses that fail to maintain and satisfy their
consumers This fact has conducted hotels to invest in new ways to improve service
quality and the perceived value that hopefully will lead to better customer satisfaction
and loyalty, and thus establish a better relationship quality with each customer.
(Jones, Mak and Sim, 2007; Barsky and Nash, 2003).
Knowing what represented service quality,

  • 2. Essay about The Missile Defense System of the United States The Missile Defense System of the United States Abstract When Ronald Reagan was in the Presidency, he and his staff came up with the idea for a missile defense system that would defend the country in the event of a nuclear missile attack. This system was named Star Wars and the basic principal behind it was that it would be a shield that covered all fifty states. However, government officials soon realized that Reagan s defense system was impossible to build, so the program was dropped, but the idea to defend the country against a missile attack stuck around. Today, the U. S. Government is trying to build a new, more realistic missile defense system. However, not all the problems have been worked out, and the U. S. Government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another one of its missions is to develop and maintain the option to deploy a cost effective, operationally effective, and Anti Ballistic Missile Treaty compliant system that could protect the states against a country that may pose a threat. The most important part of this is definitely the protection of all the states against a missile attack. In order to make a defense system that would work, the National Missile Defense would need to have a system that meets the missile threat when it s released, detect a launch of a missile, track it using radars and destroy the warhead above the atmosphere of earth (National missile defense, 2000). History The new missile defense program started in 1993 after the Department of Defense decided to conduct a review that would select the strategy, force structure, and modernization programs for America s defense in the post Cold War era. When the U. S. S. R. broke apart, it was decided that there was not much of a threat from China or the former Soviet Union. However, it was uncertain how easy it would be for a third world country to come into possession of long range missiles. In response to their uncertainty, the Defense Department built the National Missile Defense in order to develop and keep the ability to launch a missile defense if a threat emerged (National missile defense, 2000). In 1994, Congress called for a great acceleration in the development of the missile defense system. This call represented a sense

  • 4. A Comparison Of The Knight And The Squire In Chaucers The... In the medieval period that is described by Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, chivalry was perhaps the most recognized quality of a true gentleman. This quality is explored in Chaucer s two characters of the warrior class, the Knight and the Squire. The squire is the son of the Knight; both ride gallantly and have the air of true gentleman warriors. However, the two are very dissimilar despite their appearances. The Knight possesses the true qualities of chivalry, devotion to service, constancy in humility, and honesty. The Squire possesses none of these qualities truly; instead his demeanor is one that is less honorable and virtuous. Although both claim the same vocation, the Squire and the Knight display contradicting attitudes in respect to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Chaucer does not criticize the Squire by his writing, the Squire s hesitant attitude towards putting himself in mortal danger as well as his lack of conviction are revealed in light of the Knight s numerous demonstrations of a willingness to defend his faith single handedly and also in extreme hardship and distance. In addition to Chaucer s descriptions of dedication that distinguish the Knight, Chaucer also provides a description of the Squire s acquisitiveness for wealth and beauty, a quality that is contrary to the humble nature of the knight. The Squire had quot;locks as curly as if they had been pressed quot;, while there is no such description of the Knight s appearance whatsoever (5). I feel that Chaucer does not intend to criticize the Squire by the mention of the beauty of the Squire s hair in conjunction with the mention of the poor outfit of the Knight. Instead he attempts to point out that the Squire is the lesser of the two in terms of keeping to the code of chivalry. Regarding his articles of clothing, the Knight wore a fustian tunic, which was only somewhat bright and only sufficiently comfortable. An example of the Squire s meticulous appearance is: He was embroidered like a meadow bright And full of freshest flowers, red and white. . . . He was as fresh as is the month of May.

We all develop hand eye coordination as a part of our basic survival skills. Nevertheless, we could go our whole lives without singing and be fine. We want to sing, but we have to make a conscious effort to learn. Some people make this effort as children, and we assume they were born with it. This is not so. As with anything, it comes more naturally to some than to others, but we all have to learn. Numerous people believe that tone deafness does not exist. Many people believe that they are tone deaf (Lancet 2001). Nevertheless, I do not believe that they are tone deaf, in other words, people who will never be able to learn to distinguish between notes. Many of the tone deaf people have been able to work on their problem, and by correcting their singing techniques, as well as releasing their constrictions, they have learned to sing in tune. Tone deaf singers often have severe constrictions around their vocal cords (Gandour, 2000). Usually they have had these tensions for such a long time that they no longer feel like tensions. A person often finds psychological reasons for these tensions (Gandour, 2000). Gandour states, frequently a singer has been thoroughly deprived of his or hers self confidence regarding the voice (2000). One can lose his or her self confidence for many reasons. For example, I was singled out as the one in the church choir who was spoiling the sound of the choir and by being the

While many of the characters in the book are non humans they can still show a lot about human nature. Although good and bad are really only concepts and nothing is set in stone we still use them to describe almost everything. Throughout the book the children,Susan, Peter, Edmund and Lucy seem to take on the roles of heroes or saviors in the story. Lucy specifically also represents the innocence of children and how naturally good humans are at young age. Overall throughout the book C.S Lewis shows that human nature is basically good in this world. Later in the book Lucy becomes the most kind and compassionate child and the real leader of there decent into Narnia. Lucy felt very frightened, but she felt inquisitive and excited as well. She looked back over her shoulder and there, between the dark tree trunks, she could still see the open doorway of the wardrobe and even catch a glimpse of the empty room from which she had set out. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prostate cancer refers to the malignant growth of glandular cells located in the prostate. Under normal circumstances these cells sit in the glands which are responsible for the production of fluids that make up most of the semen in males [2]. However once these cells lose their control, what happens is that they will keep on growing until they become cancerous [2]. Ultimately this means that the natural surrounding layers that did act like barriers for these cells are now broken and therefore allows the spread of these malignant cells to other organs within the body, particularly the bones and lymph nodes [2]. When this does take place the risk of death also increases. At the age of 85, a man is said to have a 1 in 5 chances of developing prostate cancer sometime in their life. The risk is said to double if a male has a first degree relative who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Medieval people from all walks of life a shoemaker, astrologer, scientist, military adviser and kings believe in the craft of fortune telling and follow what the soothsayers said even if it means putting people into exile and not attending a war. Canto XX mentioned one of the 7 kings who fought against Thebes, a blind soothsayer from Greek Mythology, a soothsayer from Etruia, a sorceress, an irish scholar who dealt with the occult, a court astrologer and a military adviser all of them reflected the practice of the forbidden arts before and during Dante s time and until now it is still widely accepted and promoted by people. There are horoscope sections in the newspaper and magazines, false prophets and fortune tellers are found everywhere in the archipelago. It is ironic that there are dozens of fortune tellers in front of the Quaipo Church when it is supposed to be a house of God and place of worship, not a place of sin. In keeping with Dante s theme of Divine Retribution, the Fortune Tellers and Diviners have their heads on backwards, their tears ran down their backs, and down the between the cleft of their buttocks . These are the souls who, on Earth, tried to see too far ahead of them, and thus will spend eternity forever looking behind

  • 32. Student Success And Support Services Program Essay Research/Policy Topic Analysis: Student Success and Support Services Program (SSSP) Background The Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) for California community colleges arose as a result of the Senate Bill 1456 with a mission to increase California community college student access and success by providing effective core matriculation services, including orientation, assessment and placement, counseling, and other educational planning services, and academic interventions, or follow up services for at risk students (Graillat, Lawrence, Quiaoit Mohr, 2016, p. 4). While this Senate Bill established the SSSP, there were other acts and bills that came before that eventually paved the way for the Student Success and Support Program. The Seymour Campbell Matriculation Act of 1986 created the matriculation process for continuing and incoming students taking courses for credit. The idea was that there should be an equal educational opportunity across California and that this would be accomplished through having the same educational services across campuses that would help students reach their educational goals (Graillat et al., 2016). Furthermore, in 1990, the Board of Governors (BOG) specified what the regulations would be for implementing the matriculation process (Graillat et al., 2016). In 1997 and 1998, Assembly Bill (AB) 1542 and AB 107 were passed. These bills extended these services to students taking noncredit courses (Graillat et al., 2016). While the goal of

I wonder if they all come out of that wallpaper as I did? the woman behind the pattern was an image of herself. She has been the one stooping and creeping. The Yellow Wallpaper was written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. In the story, three characters are introduced, Jane (the narrator), John, and Jennie. The Yellow Wallpaper is an ironic story that takes us inside the mind and emotions of a woman suffering a slow mental breakdown. The narrator begins to think that another woman is creeping around the room behind the wallpaper, attempting to break free , so she locks herself in the room and begins to tear down pieces of the wallpaper to rescue this trapped woman. When atoms are excited, their electrons gain energy and move up an energy level, and when the electrons return to their initial energy level, they release photons causing light to be emitted. The light of a laser is only one color because it is only made up of one wavelength. The photons of a laser are all concentrated into a small beam, making it strong unlike the beams of regular light. Both devices work when a laser reads pits or marks on the disk which the machine then interprets into a movie or video game. Where DVD and Blu ray differ however, is the marks on a Blu ray disk are much smaller and therefore requires a better and more precise laser to

(Burkhardt Nathaniel, 2014, p. 8) When admitting a patient, I am required to ask if my patient has any spiritual beliefs. We do this because spiritual beliefs have long been thought to play an important part to promote healing. For this reason, it is essential to incorporate whatever their belief into their treatment plan. The same can be said for their religious beliefs. Not all procedures, medications, and treatments are universally accepted among the many different religions. But, we do know that in all cultures, the nursing profession has been profoundly influenced by various aspects of spirituality and religious practice.

Let us assume in 10 departments, we have 100 employees in each of them. These 10 departments update their process and files/data to the data center. The problem could rise on the single support connected to the data center because of the limited resources. All the departments are connected to the center via one single line this could lead to problems as follows: Throughput: The throughput is the measure of the bandwidth under given scenario; it decreases with increase in the traffic and number of simultaneous connections to the network line. There isn t any point to making things a challenge for no good reason so it s about taking on the right challenges and calculating risks to a point that justifies them when compared to the challenge that is faced to accomplish them. Truth be told, it was a challenged for me to take that risk and slide down the tube tunnel and I did not regret doing so because I know at that point thats what I wanted. If it hadn t been for that challenge, I wouldn t be able to see what I am capable of doing. Taking risks is done with some purpose in mind as well. There isn t any point in taking risks that don t pay off. There are hundreds of things that require risks in order to make them happen. Innovation is a big one of those. Innovation is when you look for new ways of doing things, building things or perhaps new ideas. This requires breaking new ground that no one has done before and so there are always risks involved. People who are hesitant to take risks will become stagnant with no ability to innovate or change for there is no such thing as constant in this world, there are always going to be changes and new invention coming up. When we were young we really didn t understand what risks were, we just did things as we saw fit to do them. Sometimes as older individuals we need to take risks as we did when were young. Instead of the over analyzing and the procrastination sometimes we just have to look

  • 46. Essay On Haiti Earthquake Haiti has traditionally been the poorest country in the Western hemisphere and has repeatedly been a victim of natural disasters such as hurricanes, torrential rains, floods and earthquakes. Several natural disasters have plagued the country, destroying everything, and affecting everyone s health, specifically women s and children s. These uncontrolled and unexpected events such as Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Ike have caused spikes in health issues such as cholera, AIDS, unwanted pregnancies and children who lack proper care. On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haitioriginating from a point 25 miles away from the capital of Port au Prince. Photographic evidence and first hand reports made it immediately evident that there was massive physical damage and that the loss of life would be high. Food and water made its way slowly and insufп¬Ѓciently to the survivors; rescue and medical workers could not save all the trapped and wounded (Petersen). However, some of the greatest problems occurred weeks, months or even years later. Haiti has tried to abide by the Child Rights Convention s Article Six that states that every child has an inherent right to life, but it has been difficult. An examination of the effects of the earthquake and the resulting problems focusing on healthcare such as women s safety and reproductive care, the spread of diseases, the impact of poverty and the decline in the mental and physical stability of the youth, demonstrates the negative impacts the disaster had, especially on the country s children. The 2010 earthquake left Haiti s people in shock and confusion, causing the women many issues with both their safety and reproductive health. In the aftermath of a disaster, women and girls are extremely vulnerable to sexual coercion and violence. In Haiti the breakdown of law and order, and the growing civil unrest, placed women and girls at a significantly increased risk (Claeys). After the the quake, women had a lot of trouble finding or affording contraceptives and as a result, some women could not use protection regularly or discontinued using contraception altogether (Balsari). This opened a door to a huge number of issues, one being that an unprotected women is more

In every religion, there is a hero and that hero was prophesied to save the world or save the people that believed in that religion or followed the rules by granting them eternal life or afterlife in a promised land. The humanities could be found in mythology. This essay will talk about how mythology, in the role of humanities, should be considered nonfiction or real. The birth of the hero may come in an extraordinary circumstance such as the womb of a virgin or a mortal woman impregnated by a god. That hero is always a man. In Greek culture, that hero is Hercules, son of Zeus and a mortal woman. In Christian Culture the hero is Jesus, son of God and the Virgin Mary. His birth was announced by an angel and took place in an inn. Both births are similar because they were both born with fathers that are gods and mothers that are mortals. According to Sohail, Roy, Saeed and Ahmed,2007; Kwortnik , 2005) researchers generally agree that service quality is not a uni dimensional assemble that reflects whether a firm s customer service is superb or meagre. Instead service quality symbolizes a combination of factors that determine customers perceptions about the offering. Service quality is not objectively measured according to some technical standards but is subjectively felt by customers and measured relative to customer determined standards. Thus, service quality is the gap between perceived service delivered and expected service. As a result, service quality is defined similarly, as a comparative function between consumer expectations and actual service performance (Iacobucci and Ostrom, 1995; Parasuraman et al.,1985) Because of economic improvements, a long term and commonly advantageous relationship between the customer and the hotel is becoming progressively more important. Companies with satisfied consumers benefit from higher margins and consequently greater profits than do businesses that fail to maintain and satisfy their consumers This fact has conducted hotels to invest in new ways to improve service quality and the perceived value that hopefully will lead to better customer satisfaction and loyalty, and thus establish a better relationship quality with each customer. (Jones, Mak and Sim, 2007; Barsky and Nash, 2003). Knowing what represented service quality,
