Pride In The Ottoman Empire
As I struggle up this unstable wooden ladder I cannot help but feel a sense of pride in the empire I am
defending. In years past, we Turks have slowly been acquiring large amounts of land for the Ottoman
Empire and finally conquering Constantinople will validate the triumphs we have earned throughout
the west. As a Janissary of the great Ottoman Empire it is my duty to wield my shield and sword to
expand this empire that I serve. The crack of guns echoes through the battle and arrows whiz past my
armored head. Bodies tumble over the sturdy fortress that encircles Constantinople as I continue
scaling the ladder. Nonetheless, I focus on my mission: entering the city walls. Hopefully, the sultan
will give us soldiers a chance to loot the Byzantines

Moon Conspiracy Research Paper
There are many moon conspiracy theories that have been told to people all over the world. Many
people have tried to prove them right and prove them wrong. in, https://pseudoastro.wordpress.com,
spacecentre.co.uk, and in http://www.discovery.com, by Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, Scott
Davis, and Stuart Robbins, the authors give evidence to why the fake Moon landing theory is not real.
The conspiracy theory that a man did not land on the moon is well known because of no stars in the
moon photos. The first piece of evidence that we did land on the moon is when the author states, The
reason they are not visible in photos has a lot more to do with photography than with astronomy. Stars
are very dim and the light reflected by the Earth and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first fact to go against the moon landing theory is when Stuart Robbins states, If you have
managed to get this far and still believe this claim, then let s actually get to what s really going on.
Have you ever scanned or photocopied something? If so, you know that any little piece of dirt, hair,
dust, or whatever that gets between your original and your imaging device will show up in the copy.
That is what happened in the case of the infamous C rock a hair (such as an eyelash) or a small piece
of lint got caught between the image and the imager when they were making copies of it. Plain and
simple. In the original photograph (close up shown below), there is no C. This confirms that it was just
some hair or fine particle that came between the camera and the rock. The second piece of evidence
that rebuttals against the moon landing conspiracy theory is when Scott Davis states, But in fact, the
label simply isn t there. The image of the rock is taken from a much larger shot of the Moon s surface,
and if you look at the original image (shown below left), the marking isn t there. Either a small hair or
piece of thread must have got caught in the machine while it was being copied (image below right).
This confirms that there was only something in between the camera and the

Nature Of Agency Video
Contract Creation and Management The Nature of Agency video continues the story of a business
relationship between Quick Takes Video and Non Linear Pro. Quick Takes, dissatisfied with the
current video editing software owned initiates contact with a salesperson from Non Linear Pro to
discuss a software product that Quick Takes believes may be a solution for updating their present
equipment. The first meeting between the two companies becomes the basis of a subsequent law suit
by which both parties dispute the terms of agreement in the use of the software product. The issue is
one that involves determining if a contract is formed. Additionally the definition of agencies within a
small business must be examined to determine if the actions of a Quick Takes employee may in fact
validated the terms of a contract. Elements of a Contract In determining if a contract has been formed
between two parties, the elements of a contract are examined to determine its enforceability. For a
contract to be enforceable, the following four basic requirements must be met: agreement,
consideration, conceptual capacity, and lawful object (Cheeseman, 2010, p. 154). During the initial
meeting Non Linear Pro (offeror) made an offer to an owner of Quick Takes (offeree) the use of an
editing software on a one month trial basis. Quick Takes accepted the offer with the understanding that
the trial would cost the equivalent of leasing the product. This exchange constituted a bilateral

The Effects Of Stress And On Stress
When people hear the words life and stress together in the same sentence the words alone may already
be causing some to acquire more stress. Stress is very common and known by every living thing and
can play a huge role in our lives. We have all experienced stress in some type of form. It is a very
unpleasant state of emotional and physiological arousal that people experience in situations that are
dangerous or threatening. It may also vary by its definition because it may mean something slightly
different to one person then it does to the other. Stress is not always categorized in the same degree. It
can be measured differently depending on age and the situation/event. Some people see stress as an
emotion that causes them to worry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many illnesses that can be caused by certain stressful life events such as: obesity, diabetes,
depression, anxiety, aging and Alzheimer s disease.
Conducting the Research This research was conducted by Holmes and Rahe and it compiled of 43 life
events that majority of people feel that cause more stress than others. The events ranged from minor
everyday changes one may face in their life to chaotic and disastrous events. As a reference point they
assigned marriage with the arbitrary number of 500 and told the patients to gauge their responses
using that value. If an event called for a higher amount of stress and change in one s life than the value
would be higher and if it was less stress than the value would be lower. For this research, The Social
Readjustment Rating Scale was used. This scale was created by Holmes and Rahe in the late 1960 s to
measure the common stressors of everyday events. This scale was used to determine the value of
stress in a certain event. To use the scale the individual being tested would have to add up all the
values for the listed life events that were correlated with the individual, and if the event happened
multiple times within the past 12 months then the event would be multiplied by the number of times it
occurred. Every life stress event listed on the scale has an assigned value which are referred to as life
change units (LCU s). These life change units reflect the amount of

Compare Utopia And A Man For All Seasons
In Utopia and A Man for All Seasons, written by Thomas More, More analyses politics through
different perspective. More travels to Antwerp as an ambassador for England and King Henry the
VIII. Here More is introduced to Raphael Hythloday, a veteran traveler. Hythloday has a great depth
of knowledge and understanding of governments of many nations and in the book it recounts their
conversations.Utopia gives readers insight in the the ways politics are influenced and through More s
and Raphael s experience one can notice the different ways persuasion is used with in politics.
Raphael s story about theft and punishment can be used to note how to persuade advisors to the Kings,
and More s ideas between civilized and academic advice can be used to persuade the King. In A Man
for All Seasons, More is faced with the decision to save his life or protect his integrity. Raphael s and
More discuss the effects of why the punishment for thievery is unnecessary and ultimately ineffective
when it comes to solving the problem. This conversation depicts a perfect way in which advisors can
be persuaded to a contrasting idea, because Morton, head advisor to the King, doesn t believe in the
new way Raphael thinks thievery should be punished but then is convinced by parts of Raphael s
ideas. More brings up the idea that the most effective way to influence public affairs is to gain the
confidence of some great king and give him advice (20). Raphael s disagrees, Kings are more
interested in the science of war than in useful peacetime techniques (20). Though Raphael doesn t
believe going directly to the king to advise, he also sees many problems with the councillors. Advisors
are either too wise to need, or too conceited to take advice from anyone else (20). Raphael brings up
that he has even seen this in England, which transitions their conversion into the punishment for
thievery. Raphael believes that the death penalty is too severe, and as a deterrent it s quite ineffective
(22). Most steal when they are desperate and no penalty on earth will stop people, and it would be
more effective to provide everyone with some means of livelihood so that they wouldn t steal in the
first place (22). This applies to more

History of Insurance in The Philippines
Development of Insurance in The Philippines
Pre Spanish Era there was no insurance; every loss was borne by the person or the family who
suffered the misfortune.
Spanish era Insurance, in its present concept, was introduced in the Philippines when Lloyd s of
London appointed Strachman, Murray Co., Inc. as its representative here.
1898 Life insurance was introduced in this country with the entry of Sun Life Assurance of Canada in
the local insurance market.
1906 First domestic non life insurance company, the Yek Tong Lin Insurance Company, was organized

Cultural Awareness And Delivery Of Appropriate Care
Cultural Heritage As health care providers, it is imperative to acknowledge the relationship between
cultural awareness and delivery of appropriate care. The first step in creating cultural awareness may
begin by the provider assessing their own cultural heritage, and it s views on health and wellness.
Reflection on one s cultural heritage requires knowledge and understanding of the concept of cultural
heritage itself. When assessing my cultural heritage, I first examined the factors that are identified as
contributors to one s heritage. According the Joint Commission (2010), culture can be defined as
integrated patterns of human behavior that include the language, thoughts, communications, actions,
customs, beliefs, values, and institutions of racial, ethnic, religious, or social groups . Once reflecting
on these patterns, I concluded that my ethnicity and religious upbringing were the two components of
my heritage that most greatly affected my behaviors. I belong to the Franco American, English, and
Scottish ethnic groups. However, being predominately Franco American and having closer
relationships with my family members of this ethnicity as a child, I mainly identify with this group.
Since their migration to various locations in New England; primarily throughout the late eighteen
hundreds to early nineteen hundreds, French Canadians have been recognized for their rigorous work
ethics. Many immigrant men, women, and children worked in mills after relocating to the

Difference Between Open And Open Source Software
Sources of vulnerabilities can come from internal and external attack vectors; it can also stem from
lack of knowledge. Free and open source software offer significate benefits to an organization, which
can also pose a risk that can allow attackers to gain access to vital information on the network server.
Many security professionals use open source software to fast track transport of digital content. Open

systems are a user s computer or IT servers. Illegal transfers can be carried out by someone manually
or automatically via malicious programs across a network (Splunk, 2017). It wise for the organization
to invest in different security tools to combat the data exfiltration.
By using multiple platforms that can stream and identifies the intrusion attack can provide values for
the server by investigating the potential threat vectors. The isolated event can be studied by the
technology team to find a solution and prevent future issues from happening.

Since the implementation of bringing your device to work policy, company s network the server is
vulnerable to potential attacks. I understand the purpose of the company mission by allowing their
employee 24/7 access. However, the bring your device policy pose a risk to the company s

Long Term Development Policy Paper
Developing Policies Which Optimize Long term Service Sustainability for Vulnerable Infrastructure
Kevin L. Clark, Auroop Ganguly Abstract The Mission of the U.S. Department of Transportation is to
ensure all Americans are served by a fast, safe, efficient, accessible and convenient transportation
system that meets the nation s vital national interest and enhances the quality of life today and in the
future. The airport and National Airspace System (NAS) play a key role in achieving this mission.
That said, approximately 70% of the United States (U.S) air traffic is managed by staffed air traffic
control (ATC) facilities with an age range of 30 50 years[footnoteRef:1]. The Federal Aviation

Government Accountability Office, Report to Congressional Requesters, September 2013, GAO 13
757] INTRODUCTION One of the Federal Aviation Administration s (FAA) primary modernization
goals is to implement policies that ensure their 1,230 facilities enable robust Air Traffic Control (ATC)
services to meet air traffic demand requirements in a safe and efficient manner for all citizens. These
facilities provide the foundation for which the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen)
programs are built on. The challenge of maintaining such complex airport and facility infrastructures
is in the assessment of needs and implementing a clear upgrade and sustainment prioritization strategy
that supports those needs. Similar to large private organizations the FAA utilizes business policies that
identify requirements, mitigate risk to staff and operations, and accelerate performance. However, to
often the expectation of seeing an immediate measurable change given a strategy has been
implemented is misguided. Evidence has shown policy changes display their impact in long term gains
or losses not short term. (Toyoda, 1991) The purpose of this research is to build a simulation model to
investigate the dynamics of modernization investment policies in the development of long term
service availability for all ATC facilities.

Rosaline Should Be Pardoned In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Rosaline should be pardoned. All she did was decide to become a nun. ...But beauty starved with her
severity... (1,1) This is Romeo saying that he s upset because he could never marry her. Another reason
for a pardon is that Romeo wasn t really in love. The moment Benvolio says to look at other ladies,
Romeo doesn t completely dismiss the idea as much as just find excuses. By giving liberty to thine
eyes: Examine other beauties. (1,1) Benvolio is telling Romeo to go look at other girls, which Romeo
does end up doing. In conclusion, all Rosaline did was become a nun, it s not her fault that Romeo fell
in love with Juliet.

It is hard to analyze the trend of sales from 2009 to 2011. The sales fluctuated during this period. The
profit increased rapidly from 2002 to 2005, then declined gradually due to the possible reasons of the
bad global economy situation and the financial crisis. After Tesco Bank was entirely owned by Tesco,
the profit boosted remarkably again such as the growth rate was 65.625% in 2009 and the average
growth rate of profit from 2008 to 2011 was 29.72%. However, the growth rate declined year by year.
Based on the evidence above, it can be inferred that Tesco Bank is now at the maturity stage.
According to the trend of profit, the product achieved acceptance by customers for a period of time,
then the big change in 2008 led to rejuvenation of its business. At the same time, the sales growth was
slowdown but it seems to increase in the future. These points match to the characteristics of maturity
stage (Kotler and Armstrong, 2012).
Boston s Matrix is a chart to evaluate a company s market strategy and situation according to its

The market growth rate of Tesco Bank was high in recent years but the relative market share is still

OPERATION OF POWER STEERING SYSTEM
Power steering has today become a standard addition in almost all four wheelers that we see working
on the roads. It provides calmer maneuverability and a better degree of control over the vehicle, which
makes driving all the more effort free.
The term power steering is derived from power assisted steering system . Although electric steering
systems have become common in most vehicles today, initially, the basic system for power steering
was hydraulic, which worked thanks to the precise functioning of a number of small and large
mechanical parts. In the following sections, we shall learn about the working of the basic hydraulic
power steering. But before that, we will take a look at how the steering in a vehicle functions.
Steering a vehicle involves getting its front wheels to turn synchronously, either to the left or to the
right. This is achieved with the help different gear systems. The two main types of steering gear
systems are the rack and pinion, and the recirculating ball type; out of which

Essay on Post-colonial Encounters in the Early 20th Century
Alfred Noyes wrote The Empire Builders at the turn of the twentieth century. Despite the time at
which it was written in, there are various post colonial themes regarding the hierarchy of difference.
The tone of the poem is pessimistic which is understandable since Noyes is writing during the
Naturalist period of English literature. Noyes is speaking to the middle class of England; those who
fulfill their duties as they come (Noyes, 45). He uses the first person plural article to create a
unification between the readers and the narrator. Noyes, in his poem, addresses two postcolonial
themes of Christianity as a vehicle of colonization, and the fallacies of European philosophy. In this
essay, I argue that the themes and structure that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the empire builder has more lines of description, he is situated in a higher category of social
stratification.
Another instrument that allows the empire builder to situate himself in higher categories of hierarchy
is Christianity. Noyes gives Christianity a large amount of agency in the discourse of colonialism.
Christianity was composite in producing Africa as backward. Christianity has two roles: firstly, it is a
method by which the white man created an inferiority complex amongst the natives and secondly it
created a clear distinction between colonizer and native. At the beginning of the poem, he mentions
the superiority of the white man and describes them as the Lord God of battles... (Noyes, 5). By saying
this, he is not only amplifying the inequality between the white man and the native but also
introducing Christianity as a method of creating the divide. On line thirty six, there is a description of
the empire builder as having a shadowy crown of thorn (Noyes, 36). At this point in the poem, Noyes
is slightly empathizing with the empire builder since he has to carry all the burden of the country on
his back. Furthermore, by saying that he has a crown of thorns, Noyes is comparing the status of the
empire builder to that of Jesus Christ, which is establishing the former as the highest authority in
societal hierarchy. Towards the end of the poem, Noyes makes the distinction between heaven and
home. This is

Literary Analysis Of Marge Piercy s Barbie Doll And ...
Allusion and Metaphor in the Poems of Marge Piercy
Although the poems Barbie Doll and A Work of Artifice both deal with the subject of women, Marge
Piercy uses subtly different approaches in tone of voice, metaphorical style, and use of irony. While
Barbie Doll uses the form of allusion to compare a female child to a doll and demonstrates a strong
tone of anger and irony, A Work of Artifice uses metaphor as a way to discuss the subject of women
indirectly. Both poems succeed in making strong statements about the position of women in society
and how they are constructed by society to serve others. In the first stanza of Barbie Doll, Piercy
refers to the child in the third person. She writes about how the young girl is socialized into acting like
a girl, just like all the rest. She writes, This girlchild was born as usual/ and presented dolls that did
pee pee/ and miniature GE stoves and irons/ and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy. (Piercy 1, 4).
In these first four lines, Piercy makes a strong statement that even as children, girls are given the
accessories of grown women. Through play with these toys, they become accustomed to interacting
with domestic appliances and make up products. They are given dolls that are meant to function as
stand ins for their own future infants. By using the words wee and miniature and candy, Piercy is
suggesting that these are conditioning tools that are packaged as appealing toys so that the girl
children will be

How Production Management Has Impacted The Growth And...
Introduction
Top among the list of products that come to my mind whenever the phrase household name is
mentioned in a conversation is the name Coca Cola. Growing up as a kid in Rwanda in a less
privileged community, I remember feeling wealthy and in need of nothing every time I drunk a bottle
of Coca Cola. It always made me forget my troubles and focus on life ahead. To me, Coca Cola was a
magic drink full of wonders. Nothing was like it; and for that reason it has remained a top household
name in my mind in spite of the fact that I don t drink it that much these days.
Discovering how the Coca Cola Company manages the production and chain supply system around
the world gives me much pleasure as I research for this paper. My hope as I ... Show more content on

message is an invitation to billions around the world to pause, refresh with a Coca Cola, and continue
to enjoy one of life s simple pleasures (World of Coca Cola, 2015).
For many years Coca Cola has been one of the world s most recognizable product brands. The name
Coca Cola comes from coca leaves and kola fruit; the two main components of the Coca Cola formula
mix (Wikipedia, 2015). According to Aaron Taube (2013), Coca Cola held the top slot of the
Interbrand 100 for thirteen consecutive years before Apple ascended to that slot a few years ago. Coca
Cola s success story stretches back to the late 1800s; to a man named Dr. John Pemberton, a
pharmacist who lived in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1886, Dr. Pemberton created a flavored syrup from
extracts of cocaine and caffeine rich kola nuts in his backyard, which he then took to his neighborhood
pharmacy, where it was mixed with carbonated water and deemed excellent by those who sampled it

Compare and Contrast the Functionalist and Marxist views...
Compare and Contrast the Functionalist and Marxist views on the Family Functionalists argue that
societies consist of inter related social institutions such as schools, mass media, political systems, the
Church and the family each of which contribute positively to the maintenance of stability of society as
a whole. Broadly speaking it is assumed by functionalists that societies operate in the interests of all of
their members so that there is no reason for fundamental conflict in society. Instead there is a high
degree of consensus that societies are organised efficiently and relatively fairly. According to Herbert
Spencer, the family performs functions which are necessary for the society, as a whole, to operate
smoothly with little or no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are the socialization of children and the stabilization of adult personalities (warm bath theory).
Although this idea seems to make some logical sense, it is highly criticized by the Marxist, Zaretsky,
who dismissed the theory mainly because the family itself can often be the cause of emotional upset
and stress within individuals. He argued that it is not always possible for the family to sustain the
pressure and cushion all the shocks and frustration of the workplace. Ronald Fletcher also analyses the
family from a Functionalist perspective but he denies that the modern nuclear family has lost functions
to the extent suggested By Talcott Parsons. Thus Fletcher argues that even if the family is no longer a
unit of production, it is a unit of consumption which can be appealed to by advertisers keen to sell a
wide range of household appliances so as to maintain profits for the bourgeoisie. Marxists view the
family in a very disparaging light and regard the family as a tool of capitalism and the bourgeoisie.
Marxists believe that the family has many roles which are beneficial to the capitalist society. Zaretsky
conducted his study in 1976 and concluded that the family was the key ingredient for capitalism as the
family consumes the products of capitalism which enables the bourgeoisie to keep profits up and
allows the capitalist system to continue. He argues that the family served interest of capitalism in
various ways, namely,

Introduction
Horticulture, as an industry, is divided on the basis of crop and plant use. Horticulture can be divided
into two groups including edible plants and aesthetic plants which means those grown for their beauty.
Floriculture is the cultivation and management of cut flowers, flowering plants, and foliage plants.
When the horticulture or intensive agriculture performed by women, they are recognized as less
important. However, historically women s roles were equally if not more important than those of men.
Women were given high respect and equality in horticulture ancient societies like Trobriand amp;

crime that the boys have committed unknowingly is beyond justification. The irony of the murder of

In the Age of Exploration these are two of the recorded encounters of Native Americans and here is
my comparison of those encounters. Each encounter was by a different explorer and were 27 years
apart as well as many miles apart. With each encounter comes a difference in sophistication and how
technologically advanced the Native Americans by Hernando Cortes in the Meso America to those of
the Native Americans encountered by Christopher Columbus on the islands of the Caribbean. The
main differences revolved around how their weapons were made, what constituted housing for each

To Columbus the Natives did not seem to be sophisticated or technologically advanced in his
encounters with them. Some of them lived in villages with houses built in the shape of tents and the
only architectural structures that I can recall being describes were these houses and the very high
chimneys. They did know how to make cotton thread and traded these twenty five pounds of thread
with the Spaniards and the they wore pieces of gold in their noses, wearing it in bracelets on their
arms and legs. They traveled by canoes on the water and by foot on land and lived off the fruits from
the land as well as fish, shellfish and birds. Most did not wear clothes and if they did it was by
determined who wore what by status and age. At some island they saw cotton cloth covering some of
the women. Some of the people did have the same language and customs as from the other islands
visited on this voyage and appeared more civilized than others.
Hernando Cortes landed in Mexico in 1519 and entered Tenochtitlan, city of the Aztecs. The Native
Americans here welcomed the Spaniards into the city with the belief that the Sun god had returned to
save the people and allowed them to stay for some time there and apparently to move about most areas
of the city freely. These Natives did display a much more sophisticated and technologically advance

Barium Chloride Dihydrate
In conclusion to the first portion of the experiment, which included the continuous heating and cooling
of a 1.5 gram sample of barium chloride dihydrate, the litmus paper tested indicated that there was no
release of acidic vapors during the separating of the water and compound bonds. In other words, the
chemical equation BaCl2 + 2H2O (s)  BaCl2 + 2H2O (g), labeled as 5.3 in the original lab report, is
best used to describe the transition which took place during this portion of the lab.
The second procedure called for us to heat a number of other hydrates and test their vapors for any
evidence of acid just as we had done in the previous experimental procedure. The results for the

The Disconnection By Alice Walker
In Everyday Use Historical Criticisms explores the disconnection that people can sometimes have
depending on their education. Alice Walker successfully shows the disconnection by comparing two
ends of the spectrum of generation. Taking the historical context it plays a major role in the way this
short story is viewed. It was a time where people of color had a different and difficult experience
getting an education. When the narrator was talking about having an education it was important
because she wanted to be on a television show her success and how far she went. However Dee see s

As the story progressed it led to Dee fighting for the quilts since she did not want Maggie to have

these old quilts? I heard something fall in the kitchen, and a minute later the kitchen door slammed.
Why don t you take one of the others? No, said Wangero (Dee) I don t want those (Walker 292). Dee
wanted the quilts to have them hanging on the wall at her house to show her heritage and her culture.
In that short section it showed the difference of wanting to use the quilt as an everyday item as some
form of art to make a statement of showing how proud she was her heritage during a time where
colored people were oppressed. In the end of the story when Dee leaves after the argument and has a
dramatic exit while, her mother and Maggie just sit outside until bedtime, which showed the
difference of the older generation and new. On one side there is a passive approach and then there is
the new generation which is demonstrated as being a fighter, and fighting for what you believe until
you get what you want or at least try. One main focus in this story is heritage and the different value is
holds for people. On one hand Dee admires her culture and embraces it too its full extent. She changes

Since Netflix was an online movie Rental Company, it introduced its subscription services to
customers in 1999 which allowed access to unlimited DVD rentals with low payments. The
subscription package consisted of the mailing cost of the DVD, which would be streaming on any
device that was compatible with Netflix software. In the beginning, all cost was provided by Netflix.
But by the time the postage cost got higher, it heavily affected Netflix revenue. Later on, the CEO of
Netflix Reed Hastings implemented a new business strategy with a new website. The customers
needed to pay differently for streaming, rentals or together. DVD rental would be followed by
Quikster and was offered by new website. These changes affected the customers adversely. Therefore
millions of customer canceled their subscription. Afterwards, CEO Reed Hastings canceled the new
strategy and kept the same options as it was before but with higher price. After this, a lot more
customers got back to Netflix and realized that the higher price is well intentioned. At this point, the
CEO Reed Hastings was unable to recognize the changes that made millions of customers cancel their
subscription as well as depositors. Video on demand is going to be more of an issue because it allows
the audience to see movie clip just per click. This is totally against the Netflix

Historical, Social and Political Issues in the movie FREEDOM WRITERS The thorough presentation
of a well researched context in the film provided the environment for priming the viewers on the
concept of belonging which was highlighted in the film. This grounded the film and prepared the
viewers on the film s main focus. Through the brief but meaningful snippets of what happened during
the trial of Rodney King, the viewers were introduced to the conflict used in the film that surfaced and
distinctly placed attention on the concept of belonging. In the film, the Freedom Writers were made

This summed up their sense of belonging, ensured by having their own territory and being with their
own race. The need for belonging stemmed from their perception and actual experiences not only in
school but the community as a whole. There was always the fight for one s own turf. This was
emphasized during this scene that showed the two Latinos who had to run from the group of
Cambodians who were chasing them and the attack on these Latinos that necessitated them to split up.
Unfortunately the woman made a wrong turn and bumped into another group which caused her to be
physically harmed. This scene highlighted that though they belonged to one community, they did not
quite see themselves as part of that community and sub groups or tribes abounded because it was in
these smaller groups that they found security. They needed to form groups based on their race and
color. They stuck together and supported each other because they found comfort from one another just
like members of a family caring for each other. They became so distrusting of other groups because of
the past painful events that happened in their lives. Every race needed to establish that they were not
inferior over the others. But all of these initial behavior and attitude changed because their English
teacher paved the way for them to trust and support each other. As Eva said It s a sign of respect... for

Thus, components like a mast or bridge girder can be analysed more comprehensively with

basically created in the present work, which can be used efficiently to determine a different kind of
types of cable structures like suspension bridges , guyed towers , , cable stayed bridges etc . The

A Telephone Call By Dorothy Parker
In the various works provided to the class many themes are present in all of them, this paper will be
focusing on the authors methods of critiquing social norms. The short story, A Telephone Call by
Dorothy Parker paints a harsh reality from the perspective of a highly anxious woman forced into a
lifestyle that many would relate to in the 1900s. My Last Duchess by Robert Browning exposes the
duke and the terrible social norms he reinforces through a poetic format allowing the reader to
interpret his strange behavior on their own. Their Eyes Were Watching God, a novel, by Zora Neale
Hurston attempts to defy social norms and showcase the positive outcomes of such. Lastly, A Streetcar
Named Desire is a play by Tennessee Williams which satirically points out the extremist behaviors
that are approved and even rewarded by society. These pieces of literature from different genres still
point out the same issues in social norms in regards to the power struggle between men and women
and gender roles. Although the perspective changes, as the characters are different or the economy of
words is different between the genres the message stays the same.
A Telephone Call by Dorothy Parker comes from the perspective of a extremely anxious woman
waiting for the return of her lover, rushing from emotion to emotion, completely captivated by the
absence of a man. I ll be good, God. I will try to be better, I will, if you let me see him again.

Gay And Lesbian, Gay, And Homosexual Marriages
Recent estimates suggest that between 2.0 and 3.7 million children are being raised by lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender adults in the United States, according to the 2013 National Health Interview
Survey and Gallup Poll data (Gates, 2014). The battle of equal right in many aspects for gay and
lesbian couples have been going on for years, and although significant progress has been made, there
are many aspects within their relationships that are not yet equal to heterosexual couples in similar
situations. Gay and lesbian couples have to deal with daily discrimination within issues such as
marriage, legal issues, medical issues, and mamy forms for homophobia. Adoption has been a big
question and fight for gay and lesbian couples for many years, one that is still being found today.
Questions of whether or not a gay or lesbian couple can properly raise a healthy child, if the child s
psychological development would be compromised, any many other arguments have been proposed in
disapproval of adoption for these couples. Adoption is a tedious process for a heterosexual married
couple and the challenges and hoops needed to be jumped through to finalize the process can be even
more difficult for homosexual couples and single gay or lesbian individuals. Gay and lesbian couples
have faced many challenges through the course of time, and adoption is just another part of that
challenge. Just as it is legal for men and women of the same sex to marry, so is adopting a child.
However, there is great prejudice over the issue and the power of opinion often stunts, and sometimes
terminates, the couples process and success of being able to adopt a child of their own all because of
the judges, biological parents, or spectators personal opinions. In 2004 the American Psychological
Association declared the no difference theory that states, no scientific evidence that parenting
effectiveness is related to parental sexual orientation: lesbian and gay parents are as likely as
heterosexual parents to provide supportive and healthy environments for their children, . Certain
studies show a difference in childhood development between children of same sex marriage and
biological parents, but none that deem gay or

The Revelation Of The New Testament
This sanctified Divine Encounter establishes a connection within a realm of total purity and grace.
Noticeably, Philip mentions again that one s Divine partnership resides beyond one s earthly fleshly
one; impressing that one s spiritual, sexual essences with the Divine occur as one s true ultimate prize
in life and afterwards into eternity as the New Testament states in Revelation 21:1 3. Even through,
the direct expression of bridal chamber is none existent in the Bible; however, the reference of bride
and/or bridegroom does exist in several books such as Isa 62:5, Matt 24:1 13, John 3:29 and Rev 21:1
2. Having these terms discussed there, conceivably gives credit to the realism of this state of being; in
fact, within the New Testament the word bridegroom (referencing the Divine) is mentioned around
seventeen times. In addition, the Apostle Paul, in Rom 7:4, proclaims this divine marriage. The
appearance of this bonding terminology (bride, bridegroom, and bridal chamber) involving scared
consecration; clearly indicates a divine union to permanently occur. One specify parable of Jesus,
strangely likens the kingdom of heaven to ten virgins waiting for their marriage to take place with one
bridegroom; in due course, the marriage indeed takes place with only five of the virgins invited in,
Matt 25:1 13. With that said, the circumstance of apparent polygamy occurring is evident; however,
this proves to be improbable due to Jesus teachings regarding marriage to one

stress free as possible. The first thing you want to do is set up a budget. Plan to spend 10 percent of
your overall wedding budget on your dress. This number is simply a starting point. If dress fashion is
most important, increase the budget for your dress and scale back on other areas. You want to start the
quest for your perfect dress early. Depending on the dress and the designer, it can take time between
the moment the order is placed and when you can bring the gown home. If the dress is custom made, it
can take 4 to 5 months for the designer make the gown. You also want to schedule three fittings about
a month apart. By starting early, it will give you plenty of time to shop and see what is available. If
you are short on time, keep in mind you can expedite this by paying a surcharge for the gown. In the
search for the perfect dress, you want to research what is available. This part of the process will allow
you to think about what kind of dress you want. Look at Bridal magazines, Pinterest, and bridal
related websites. Consider making a folder to house the designs, fabric samples, and anything else that
sparks your fancy. Take your folder with you when you go shopping for your dress. This will give the
consultant a feel for what you are looking for and will provide information to serve you best. The next
step in the process is the appointment stage. Once you have an

Jd Salinger Essay
Salinger, J(erome) D(avid) (1919 ), American novelist and short story writer, known for his stories
dealing with the intellectual and emotional struggles of adolescents who are alienated from the empty,
materialistic world of their parents. Salinger s work is marked by a profound sense of craftsmanship, a
keen ear for dialogue, and a deep awareness of the frustrations of life in America after World War II
(1939 1945).
Jerome David Salinger was born and raised in New York City. He began writing fiction as a teenager.
After graduating from the Valley Forge Military Academy in 1936, he began studies at several
colleges in the New York City area, but he took no degree. He did, however, take a fiction writing
class with Whit Burnett, an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the early 1960s, Salinger virtually stopped writing for publication and disappeared from public
view into his rural New Hampshire home. In an interview that he granted during the 1970s, Salinger
maintained that he continues to write daily, and has merely rejected publication as quot;a terrible
invasion of his privacy. quot; Salinger s reclusiveness added to his cult status.

The Catcher in the Rye is narrated by Holden Caulfield, a 16 year old boy who has just flunked out of
his third private boarding school. Unwilling to remain at school until the end of the term, Holden runs
away to New York City. He does not contact his parents, who live there, but instead drifts around the
city for two days. The bulk of the novel is an account, at once hilariously funny and tragically moving,
of Holden s adventures in Manhattan. These include disillusioning encounters with two nuns, a suave
ex schoolmate, a prostitute named Sunny, and a sympathetic former teacher who may be homosexual.
Finally, drawn by his affection for his ten year old sister, Phoebe, Holden abandons his spree and
returns home.
Salinger s depiction of Holden Caulfield is considered one of the most convincing portrayals of an
adolescent in literature. Intelligent, sensitive, and imaginative, Holden desires acceptance into the
adult world even though he is sickened and obsessed by what he regards as its quot;phonies, quot;
including his teachers, parents, and his older

Why Concerning Global War On Terrorism And Clash Of...
B. Why relating Global War on Terrorism to Clash of Civilization is incorrect?
There are several factors that argues that relating global war on terrorism to clash of civilization is
incorrect. For example,
a. The Global war on Terror and Huntington s Clash of Civilization could not be engaged in the same
position because the West especially the UK and the US and some other Muslim countries like Saudi
Arabia, the UAE, Pakistan and Uzbekistan helped AQ when it was in war with the Soviet Union
(Lansford, Watson and Covarrubias, 2009). So, according to Joseph Nye (2004: 17), the struggle
against Islamist terrorism is not a clash of civilizations. In the same way, Ahmed S. Hashim (2001:29)

There was an aim of establishing US s hegemony over South Asia by this attack. For example, the
then US President s national security adviser James L. Jones stated while speaking to CNN We have

be in the region for a long time (Mazzetti, 2009).
c. Both Al Qaeda and the Bush administration pretended to speak on behalf of their respective
civilizations , but none could be considered as a core representative of the entire civilization to which
they belonged. For example,
After 9/11 Twin Tower attack,
i. The AQ was criticized by Saudi Arabia, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia and Pakistan. Beside, on the night
of 9/11, Iranians gathered outside the US embassy to offer their sympathy toward the American people

jihadists to travel to Afghanistan to fight alongside the Taliban and al Qaida (Shahi, 2017). iii.
President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan criticized the terrorists for giving Islam a bad name. The

Catfish Are Widely Available In The South And Make For
Catfish are widely available in the south and make for a delicious meal. The firm white meat of catfish
fits perfectly into a diverse variety of baked and broiled dishes. Farm raised channel catfish fillets are
found these days in many grocery stores throughout the USA. Other kinds of catfish, such as flathead

catfish, channel catfish have the most mild taste but all are suitable for eating. The states along the
Mississippi River are home to many restaurants with great reputations for serving catfish, and in North

Theme Of Identity In Treasure Island
In a quote by Joseph Kestner he said, In Treasure Island, Hawkins is forced to achieve an identity, but
this process is riddled with ambiguity, including the fact that Jim commits murder and remains
haunted by the experience as a nightmare, (______). He specializes in masculinity theory from novels
written in the late nineteenth century. Kestner is able to relate Jim because he is forced to become a
new person, kill a man to save his own life, and questions why situations happen. Wyeth suggests that
Jim is about take on a courageous mysterious journey by using Jim s poses, gender roles, darkness,
and specific details to portray his maturation throughout the novel, thereby suggesting that we are all
subject to transitions that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of darkness and shadowing conveys a sense of mystery and of the unknown, altogether
foreshadowing events to come. Jim is displayed under a shadow and his mother is in the sunlight next
to the house. Wyeth designed this image to show that Jim is about to go on a mysterious journey, and
his mother is going to stay where she is. Jim states, I said goodbye to mother and the cove where I had
lived since I was born, and the dear old Admiral Benbow since he was repainted, no longer quite so
dear, (57). Jim is walking away from everything that he has ever known and starting his new life as an
adult. Jim s house and his mother are illuminated by the light to show that they are going to stay in a
safe, known place; meanwhile, the darker figures, like Jim, are heading to an unknown destination.
The use of darkness shows that Jim has a dark path ahead of him. Normally, darkness is associated
with evil and corruption, which is fitting for Jim s path. The use of darkness can foreshadow later in
the novel to when Jim kills Israel Hands. Ultimately, when Jim kills a man this shows how he became
corrupt along his adventure. When Jim killed Hands, this showed his transition from innocence to
corruption, which can also be viewed as his maturation to an adult. All transitions can mature us in
both good and detrimental ways this instance happened to be

Ethics of the Nuremberg Code Essay
From 1946 to 1947, the Nuremberg War Crime Trials took place, withfifteen of twenty three German
physicians and research scientist physicians found guilty of criminal human experimentation projects.
The trial court attempted to establish a set of principles of human experimentation that could serve as
a code of research ethics. The result was the Nuremberg Code, which attempted to provide a natural
law based set of universal ethical principles. Looking beyond the Nuremberg Code and applying it to
modern medical research ethics, there are many challenges that it poses. Many have argued that the
Code tries to provide for all unforeseen events, which restricts the researcher by requiring him to
anticipate every situation, demanding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, a proxy was given to those who did not have legal capacity allowing researchers to expand
their population for experimentation.
The term informed has also been criticized because sometimes even the researcher is not aware of the
risks associated with the experiment or they are too technical for the subject to understand. Thus
scientists have argued that only adequate information should be released to the patient and a full
understanding is not necessary. In this clause, responsibilities are placed on the individual who is
initiating, directing, or engaging the experiment but there is no place for the researcher to be reviewed
for his actions. The scientist is in full control of making any necessary ethical deliberations. The
Declaration of Helsinki added a clause stating experimental protocols should be transmitted to a
specially appointed independent committee for consideration and comments. The third principle of the
Code addresses the justification of the performance of the experiment based on previous studies done
on animals. This may be challenged because the researcher cannot always guarantee success of the
experiment even though it has been successful on animals or in previous studies. Uncertainties in the
experiment will always be present. The Declaration of Helsinki does not

What is a reasonable period to keep a patient waiting? It is not a good to keep your patients waiting to

more than seven minutes. The reason for the shorter wait time is that when your patients come to see

they are uncomfortable and annoyed because they were kept waiting they take it out on the staff and

cranial nerves. Cranial nerves job is to connect the central nervous system to the different types of
organ in the body. Our neurons consist of cell body which holds the genetic information needed to
make protein. Dendrites receive impulses from other cells at the synapses and transmitted them to the
cell body. Axon carries outgoing information to its target cell. Neuron has only one axon that includes
Axon Hillock. Axon Hillock is the originate place for action potential; Axon collaterals are the
branches of axon; Axon terminals which are the sites of neurotransmitter release. The body neuron

neurotransmitter purpose is to serve as a chemical messenger that enables cell communication among
other cells. Myelin sheath is insulation that wraps around the each axon for about 20 to 200 times.

In years past, we Turks have slowly been acquiring large amounts of land for the Ottoman Empire and finally conquering Constantinople will validate the triumphs we have earned throughout the west. As a Janissary of the great Ottoman Empire it is my duty to wield my shield and sword to expand this empire that I serve. The crack of guns echoes through the battle and arrows whiz past my armored head. Bodies tumble over the sturdy fortress that encircles Constantinople as I continue scaling the ladder. Nonetheless, I focus on my mission: entering the city walls. Hopefully, the sultan will give us soldiers a chance to loot the Byzantines ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Moon Conspiracy Research Paper There are many moon conspiracy theories that have been told to people all over the world. Many people have tried to prove them right and prove them wrong. in, https://pseudoastro.wordpress.com, spacecentre.co.uk, and in http://www.discovery.com, by Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, Scott Davis, and Stuart Robbins, the authors give evidence to why the fake Moon landing theory is not real. The conspiracy theory that a man did not land on the moon is well known because of no stars in the moon photos. The first piece of evidence that we did land on the moon is when the author states, The reason they are not visible in photos has a lot more to do with photography than with astronomy. Stars are very dim and the light reflected by the Earth and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first fact to go against the moon landing theory is when Stuart Robbins states, If you have managed to get this far and still believe this claim, then let s actually get to what s really going on. Have you ever scanned or photocopied something? If so, you know that any little piece of dirt, hair, dust, or whatever that gets between your original and your imaging device will show up in the copy. That is what happened in the case of the infamous C rock a hair (such as an eyelash) or a small piece of lint got caught between the image and the imager when they were making copies of it. Plain and simple. In the original photograph (close up shown below), there is no C. This confirms that it was just some hair or fine particle that came between the camera and the rock. The second piece of evidence that rebuttals against the moon landing conspiracy theory is when Scott Davis states, But in fact, the label simply isn t there. The image of the rock is taken from a much larger shot of the Moon s surface, and if you look at the original image (shown below left), the marking isn t there. Either a small hair or piece of thread must have got caught in the machine while it was being copied (image below right). This confirms that there was only something in between the camera and the ... • 5. Nature Of Agency Video Contract Creation and Management The Nature of Agency video continues the story of a business relationship between Quick Takes Video and Non Linear Pro. Quick Takes, dissatisfied with the current video editing software owned initiates contact with a salesperson from Non Linear Pro to discuss a software product that Quick Takes believes may be a solution for updating their present equipment. The first meeting between the two companies becomes the basis of a subsequent law suit by which both parties dispute the terms of agreement in the use of the software product. The issue is one that involves determining if a contract is formed. Additionally the definition of agencies within a small business must be examined to determine if the actions of a Quick Takes employee may in fact validated the terms of a contract. Elements of a Contract In determining if a contract has been formed between two parties, the elements of a contract are examined to determine its enforceability. For a contract to be enforceable, the following four basic requirements must be met: agreement, consideration, conceptual capacity, and lawful object (Cheeseman, 2010, p. 154). During the initial meeting Non Linear Pro (offeror) made an offer to an owner of Quick Takes (offeree) the use of an editing software on a one month trial basis. Quick Takes accepted the offer with the understanding that the trial would cost the equivalent of leasing the product. This exchange constituted a bilateral agreement ... Stress is very common and known by every living thing and can play a huge role in our lives. We have all experienced stress in some type of form. It is a very unpleasant state of emotional and physiological arousal that people experience in situations that are dangerous or threatening. It may also vary by its definition because it may mean something slightly different to one person then it does to the other. Stress is not always categorized in the same degree. There are many illnesses that can be caused by certain stressful life events such as: obesity, diabetes, depression, anxiety, aging and Alzheimer s disease. Conducting the Research This research was conducted by Holmes and Rahe and it compiled of 43 life events that majority of people feel that cause more stress than others. The events ranged from minor everyday changes one may face in their life to chaotic and disastrous events. As a reference point they assigned marriage with the arbitrary number of 500 and told the patients to gauge their responses using that value. If an event called for a higher amount of stress and change in one s life than the value would be higher and if it was less stress than the value would be lower. For this research, The Social Readjustment Rating Scale was used. This scale was created by Holmes and Rahe in the late 1960 s to measure the common stressors of everyday events. This scale was used to determine the value of stress in a certain event. To use the scale the individual being tested would have to add up all the values for the listed life events that were correlated with the individual, and if the event happened multiple times within the past 12 months then the event would be multiplied by the number of times it occurred. Every life stress event listed on the scale has an assigned value which are referred to as life change units (LCU s). These life change units reflect the amount of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Compare Utopia And A Man For All Seasons In Utopia and A Man for All Seasons, written by Thomas More, More analyses politics through different perspective. More travels to Antwerp as an ambassador for England and King Henry the VIII. Here More is introduced to Raphael Hythloday, a veteran traveler. Hythloday has a great depth of knowledge and understanding of governments of many nations and in the book it recounts their conversations.Utopia gives readers insight in the the ways politics are influenced and through More s and Raphael s experience one can notice the different ways persuasion is used with in politics. Raphael s story about theft and punishment can be used to note how to persuade advisors to the Kings, and More s ideas between civilized and academic advice can be used to persuade the King. In A Man for All Seasons, More is faced with the decision to save his life or protect his integrity. Raphael s and More discuss the effects of why the punishment for thievery is unnecessary and ultimately ineffective when it comes to solving the problem. This conversation depicts a perfect way in which advisors can be persuaded to a contrasting idea, because Morton, head advisor to the King, doesn t believe in the new way Raphael thinks thievery should be punished but then is convinced by parts of Raphael s ideas. More brings up the idea that the most effective way to influence public affairs is to gain the confidence of some great king and give him advice (20). Raphael s disagrees, Kings are more interested in the science of war than in useful peacetime techniques (20). Though Raphael doesn t believe going directly to the king to advise, he also sees many problems with the councillors. Advisors are either too wise to need, or too conceited to take advice from anyone else (20). Raphael brings up that he has even seen this in England, which transitions their conversion into the punishment for thievery. Raphael believes that the death penalty is too severe, and as a deterrent it s quite ineffective (22). Most steal when they are desperate and no penalty on earth will stop people, and it would be more effective to provide everyone with some means of livelihood so that they wouldn t steal in the first place (22). • 10. Cultural Awareness And Delivery Of Appropriate Care Cultural Heritage As health care providers, it is imperative to acknowledge the relationship between cultural awareness and delivery of appropriate care. The first step in creating cultural awareness may begin by the provider assessing their own cultural heritage, and it s views on health and wellness. Reflection on one s cultural heritage requires knowledge and understanding of the concept of cultural heritage itself. When assessing my cultural heritage, I first examined the factors that are identified as contributors to one s heritage. According the Joint Commission (2010), culture can be defined as integrated patterns of human behavior that include the language, thoughts, communications, actions, customs, beliefs, values, and institutions of racial, ethnic, religious, or social groups . Once reflecting on these patterns, I concluded that my ethnicity and religious upbringing were the two components of my heritage that most greatly affected my behaviors. I belong to the Franco American, English, and Scottish ethnic groups. However, being predominately Franco American and having closer relationships with my family members of this ethnicity as a child, I mainly identify with this group. These facilities provide the foundation for which the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) programs are built on. The challenge of maintaining such complex airport and facility infrastructures is in the assessment of needs and implementing a clear upgrade and sustainment prioritization strategy that supports those needs. Similar to large private organizations the FAA utilizes business policies that identify requirements, mitigate risk to staff and operations, and accelerate performance. However, to often the expectation of seeing an immediate measurable change given a strategy has been implemented is misguided. Evidence has shown policy changes display their impact in long term gains or losses not short term. After Tesco Bank was entirely owned by Tesco, the profit boosted remarkably again such as the growth rate was 65.625% in 2009 and the average growth rate of profit from 2008 to 2011 was 29.72%. However, the growth rate declined year by year. Based on the evidence above, it can be inferred that Tesco Bank is now at the maturity stage. • 19. Essay on Post-colonial Encounters in the Early 20th Century Alfred Noyes wrote The Empire Builders at the turn of the twentieth century. Despite the time at which it was written in, there are various post colonial themes regarding the hierarchy of difference. The tone of the poem is pessimistic which is understandable since Noyes is writing during the Naturalist period of English literature. Noyes is speaking to the middle class of England; those who fulfill their duties as they come (Noyes, 45). He uses the first person plural article to create a unification between the readers and the narrator. Noyes, in his poem, addresses two postcolonial themes of Christianity as a vehicle of colonization, and the fallacies of European philosophy. Since the empire builder has more lines of description, he is situated in a higher category of social stratification. Another instrument that allows the empire builder to situate himself in higher categories of hierarchy is Christianity. Noyes gives Christianity a large amount of agency in the discourse of colonialism. Christianity was composite in producing Africa as backward. Christianity has two roles: firstly, it is a method by which the white man created an inferiority complex amongst the natives and secondly it created a clear distinction between colonizer and native. At the beginning of the poem, he mentions the superiority of the white man and describes them as the Lord God of battles... (Noyes, 5). By saying this, he is not only amplifying the inequality between the white man and the native but also introducing Christianity as a method of creating the divide. On line thirty six, there is a description of the empire builder as having a shadowy crown of thorn (Noyes, 36). At this point in the poem, Noyes is slightly empathizing with the empire builder since he has to carry all the burden of the country on his back. Furthermore, by saying that he has a crown of thorns, Noyes is comparing the status of the empire builder to that of Jesus Christ, which is establishing the former as the highest authority in societal hierarchy. Towards the end of the poem, Noyes makes the distinction between heaven and home. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Literary Analysis Of Marge Piercy s Barbie Doll And ... Allusion and Metaphor in the Poems of Marge Piercy Although the poems Barbie Doll and A Work of Artifice both deal with the subject of women, Marge Piercy uses subtly different approaches in tone of voice, metaphorical style, and use of irony. While Barbie Doll uses the form of allusion to compare a female child to a doll and demonstrates a strong tone of anger and irony, A Work of Artifice uses metaphor as a way to discuss the subject of women indirectly. Both poems succeed in making strong statements about the position of women in society and how they are constructed by society to serve others. In the first stanza of Barbie Doll, Piercy refers to the child in the third person. She writes about how the young girl is socialized into acting like a girl, just like all the rest. She writes, This girlchild was born as usual/ and presented dolls that did pee pee/ and miniature GE stoves and irons/ and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy. (Piercy 1, 4). In these first four lines, Piercy makes a strong statement that even as children, girls are given the accessories of grown women. Through play with these toys, they become accustomed to interacting with domestic appliances and make up products. They are given dolls that are meant to function as stand ins for their own future infants. By using the words wee and miniature and candy, Piercy is suggesting that these are conditioning tools that are packaged as appealing toys so that the girl children will be ... Compare and Contrast the Functionalist and Marxist views on the Family Functionalists argue that societies consist of inter related social institutions such as schools, mass media, political systems, the Church and the family each of which contribute positively to the maintenance of stability of society as a whole. Broadly speaking it is assumed by functionalists that societies operate in the interests of all of their members so that there is no reason for fundamental conflict in society. These are the socialization of children and the stabilization of adult personalities (warm bath theory). Although this idea seems to make some logical sense, it is highly criticized by the Marxist, Zaretsky, who dismissed the theory mainly because the family itself can often be the cause of emotional upset and stress within individuals. He argued that it is not always possible for the family to sustain the pressure and cushion all the shocks and frustration of the workplace. Ronald Fletcher also analyses the family from a Functionalist perspective but he denies that the modern nuclear family has lost functions to the extent suggested By Talcott Parsons. Thus Fletcher argues that even if the family is no longer a unit of production, it is a unit of consumption which can be appealed to by advertisers keen to sell a wide range of household appliances so as to maintain profits for the bourgeoisie. Marxists view the family in a very disparaging light and regard the family as a tool of capitalism and the bourgeoisie. Marxists believe that the family has many roles which are beneficial to the capitalist society. Zaretsky conducted his study in 1976 and concluded that the family was the key ingredient for capitalism as the family consumes the products of capitalism which enables the bourgeoisie to keep profits up and allows the capitalist system to continue. These include disillusioning encounters with two nuns, a suave ex schoolmate, a prostitute named Sunny, and a sympathetic former teacher who may be homosexual. Finally, drawn by his affection for his ten year old sister, Phoebe, Holden abandons his spree and returns home. The result was the Nuremberg Code, which attempted to provide a natural law based set of universal ethical principles. The term informed has also been criticized because sometimes even the researcher is not aware of the risks associated with the experiment or they are too technical for the subject to understand. Thus scientists have argued that only adequate information should be released to the patient and a full understanding is not necessary. In this clause, responsibilities are placed on the individual who is initiating, directing, or engaging the experiment but there is no place for the researcher to be reviewed for his actions. The scientist is in full control of making any necessary ethical deliberations. The Declaration of Helsinki added a clause stating experimental protocols should be transmitted to a specially appointed independent committee for consideration and comments. The third principle of the Code addresses the justification of the performance of the experiment based on previous studies done on animals. This may be challenged because the researcher cannot always guarantee success of the experiment even though it has been successful on animals or in previous studies. Uncertainties in the experiment will always be present. The Declaration of Helsinki does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
