United Kingdom And Its Influence On The United States
History
Many public schools teach basic government to students, and from what they taught, many know that
United Kingdom had a great influence to the United States and the rest of the world due to their long
history. United Kingdom known as Britain is well known for conquering multiple colonies and ruling
them for long period of times.
United Kingdom s history of dominance over ruling empires goes back to 19th century, when an act of
union created United Kingdom on January 1st, 1801. This act was joined by England, Scotland and
Wales, all of Great Britain along with Ireland. It was stated that Catholics were still unable to vote at
elections or hold position in offices or parliamentary. During this beginning of the 19th Century,

Crimean War happened with a conflict in Russia as many of the European countries that had such
powers were looking to expand their power and influence over areas that were left during the fall of
the Ottoman Empire. They feared the Russians would expand in the Balkrans. Boer War happened due
to Britain wanting to take control of gold and diamond mines in Boer areas.
20th century was a progress and decline time for the United Kingdom. It was during this time that
many improvements changed the life of everyday in the UK. In 1902 Education bill was passed that
abolished the school boards and gave free education to the children. Children were getting more
education than before, when they had to work long hours instead. Women got the right to vote in
elections in 1918 but were on the same voting terms as men in 1928. Late 19th century Britain main
industries were coal, iron/steel, engineering and clothing. But these declined into early 20th century
and moved into specialized manufacturing, and service industries. The invention of washing machines
and other appliances made women jobs easier. Women were given equal rights with the passing of Sex
Discrimination act in 1975.
Rivalries between several countries over political, economic and power lead to World War I. It was
said that this war started when Archduke of Austria was assassinated and Austria declared war

Non-Rapid Eye Movement
The first stage is called the Non Rapid Eye Movement (NREM 1) sleep. This stage occurs between
wakefulness and sleep, and it typically lasts between 1 to 10 minutes immediately following sleep
onset. ( Stages of Sleep Non REM and REM Sleep Cycles | Tuck Sleep ) The body muscles are not
inhibited, and the eyes roll while the eyelids may remain slightly open. In addition, breathing rate,
blood pressure, and brain temperature decrease. The brain activity transitions from exhibiting alpha
waves (8 13 Hz) to theta waves (4 7 Hz). (Foundation) Some people in NREM 1 sleep may experience
sudden twitches or hypnotic jerks, and even albeit rarely hypnagogic hallucinations. (Stickgold and
Walker)
The second stage of the sleep cycle is the Non Rapid Eye Movement (NREM 2) sleep. This lasts about
20 minutes and is characterized by decreases in the heart rate and body temperature. In this stage,
theta activity is observed. ( Stages of Sleep Non REM and REM Sleep Cycles | Tuck Sleep ) Any
remaining alpha waves from the previous episode of wakefulness are interrupted by sleep spindles,
which are bursts of high frequency activity originating from the reticular nucleus of the thalamus.
(Stickgold and Walker) Muscular activity decreases and conscious awareness of the external
environment disappears. NREM 1 and NREM 2 together are often referred to as light sleep. ( Stages
of Sleep Non REM and REM Sleep Cycles | Tuck Sleep ) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
( Stages of Sleep Non REM and REM Sleep Cycles | Tuck Sleep ) This stage is also referred to as
deep sleep. Deep sleep is initiated in the preoptic thalamic nucleus, and brain activity in this stage is
characterized by delta waves ( 3.5 Hz). Arousal thresholds during this stage are the highest, and
humans in this stage are thus least responsive to external stimuli.

For Many Years, Romanticism Dominated English Literature,
For many years, Romanticism dominated English literature, and consequently American literature, as
American writers were heavily influenced by the English. Writers like Poe and Hawthorne were
leaders in this form of literature. As thinking changed scientifically, philosophically and spiritually, so
did literature. Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn showed American culture in a way it had never been
shown, and in doing so became arguably the most famous piece of realist literature. His novel
exemplifies the rejection of romantic ideals. Realism started in France, as the rejection of the popular
romantic novels. While romantic novels were usually overly dramatic and emotional, realist novels
were objective and without a touch of personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shows the other characters personalities for what they really are, He just gives details of what he
sees, giving the reader a realistic view.
Huck s literalness and practicality sometimes make it difficult for him to even play and fantasize the
way children do. For example, Tom; a very romantic character, starts a gang with the local boys.Tom
says the gang must sign a blood oath, and if they leave the gang their whole family must be murdered.
He talks about how the gang will be highwaymen, robbing and killing caravans as they pass by. Huck,
being the realistic character he is, takes this completely literal. The gang conducts a raid on what Tom
said was a huge meeting between Spanish merchants and Rich A rabs; when it turns out to be a sunday
school picnic, Huck is disappointed. Tom then convinces Huck that Genies had made the whole thing
disappear, he then tells Huck how to get conjure the Genie. Huck tries, and reaction shows his realist
personality and his reluctance to trust superstition So then I judged that all that stuff was only just one
of Tom Sawyer s lies. I reckoned he believed in the A rabs and the elephants, but as for me I think
different. It had all the marks of a Sunday school. (Twain, 1884, p. 115, lines 3 5).
Huck deals with many hardships in his life, which is a very real concept, as everything is not always
perfect and easy. His hardships include a dead mother and a drunken father.

Clostridium difficile

Clostridium difficile
Pathophysiology
Clostridium difficile is a gram positive, spore forming anaerobic bacillus, which may or may not carry
the genes for toxin A B production (Nipa, 2010). These two types of protein exotoxins produced by
the Clostridium difficile bacillus, toxin A and toxin B, can have an infectious form and a non active,
non infectious form (Grossman, 2010). The infectious form can survive for a short duration of time in
the environment. The spores can survive for a longer period of time in the environment and are not
infectious unless and until they are ingested or are transformed into an infectious state (Nipa, 2010). ...

Treatments Clostridium difficile associated disease will resolve when the patient discontinues taking
the antibiotics to which he/she has been previously exposed (Nipa, 2010). Administration of a
different antibiotic is used to treat the infection (Grossman, 2010). The infection can usually be treated
with an appropriate course of about 10 days of antibiotics including metronidazole or vancomycin
administered orally (Nipa, 2010). On occasion intravenous vancomycin may be necessary (Gould,
2010). The nurse should ensure patients are not only taking the newly prescribed antibiotic, but also
responding to the treatment by showing a decrease in symptoms. Symptoms can recur despite
antibiotic therapy, close monitoring is essential. In order to avoid risk of further complications,
nursing interventions would include careful assessment of white blood cell count, temperature, and
hydration status; meticulous skin care and assistance with bowel elimination given the loose frequent
stools; and management of abdominal discomfort (Grossman, 2010).
Patient Teaching Clostridium difficile is a particularly challenging and difficult infection to control.
Because Clostridium difficile spores can live on dry surfaces for long periods of time, teaching must

The Herbal And Dietary Supplement Market
INTRODUCTION Nutraceutical, a term derived from the words nutrition and pharmaceutical refers to
food or a constituent of the food which has been scientifically proven to provide health and
therapeutic benefits such as the prevention and treatment of a disease. The term was formulated by Dr
Stephen de Felice in 1989. Nutraceuticals have a role in maintaining and improving the wellbeing and
health of an individual as well as regulating immunity. Consequently preventing and treating
particular diseases (Chauhan et a.l, 2013). Nutraceuticals are found in a diverse group of products
coming forth from the food industry, the pharmaceutical industry, the herbal and dietary supplement
market. They are present in most of the food ingredients with varying concentration. A diet rich in
these along with regular exercise, stress reduction and maintainance of healthy body weight will
maximize health and reduce disease risks (Chaturvedi et al., 2011). Nutraceuticals are on demand
because medical science is now realising the importance of food in treatment and prevention of
diseases since regular consumption of synthetic drugs sometimes cause organ failure and so many
other effects. Again, consumers have the belief that food like substances are either harmless or less
toxic as compared to conventional drugs, furthermore nutraceuticals are cheaper and are safe with
regards to avoiding the side effects associated with drugs (Tapans et al., 2008). CLASSIFICATION

Abolish The Canadian Senate
The Canadian Senate has been a long standing problematic section of the Canadian government and
since its creation in 1867 and has been scrutinized for its effectiveness and purpose. In recent years,
concerns have been raised and approaches have been suggested into reforming the Senate. Those in
favour of taking drastic measures to reform or even abolish the Senate agree that the Senate is not
functioning and not a trustworthy part of Canadian government. However, there are those who view
that the Senate can still be saved say it has a purpose in the Canadian government since it serves a
vital function in passing Canadian legislature. Nonetheless, maintaining a government body that is non
functional needs to be addressed and revised and gone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the maintenance of the Senate there are four proposed approaches; minor renovation, deferred
abolition, housekeeping, and maintenance of the Senate. Firstly, minor renovations would cause only
small changes that would not make the Senate go through the amending formula. These small changes
would enforce term limits and allow for voters to select nominees for the upper chamber (Brodie
2013). Although not direct elections this will make the Senate more democratic since Canadians will
be allowed to have some say in plausible Senators rather than them being solely appointed by the
Prime Minister. Deferred abolition (or demolition) would postpone any changes until the federal
election in 2025. This approach would put a gun to the head of the status quo: you have ten years to
achieve reform...or it s lights out in the Red Chamber (Morton 2013). By having pressure put on the
Senate the hope is to start change since there is a time limit on what can be done. There has always
been talk about what needs to be changed but by putting a time limit on change will encourage the
Senate to start to take the steps it needs to be effective. Another approach is the approach of
housekeeping, which consists of change being started from within the Senate itself. Housekeeping
calls for more transparency and for the Senate to be held accountable (Black 2013). For the

How is the audience positioned to see Gordon Gekko in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps?
The film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps follows the story of Jacob Moore, his partner Winnie

Total Compensation and Benefits Strategy.
Landslide Limousine will engage in a comprehensive compensation strategy that should include three
core facets to be successful. These three facets or portions will be based on experience level, position
in the company, and overall customer satisfaction.
The first facet that Landslide will utilize is a traditional position based compensation model, this
allows the compensation strategy to be divided into the jobs of the organization, competition will
make more sense and be more transparent to the employees. This will also allow for a positive
motivator and friendly competition among peers. Each separation position within the company will be
entitled to compensation levels that are understood within the industry to be recognized as a standard
based on the employees position and responsibilities in the company.
The second facet of the strategy will be determined by the experience of each driver and or employee.
Incremental pay raises will be determined by the experience gained and performance level of the
employee. These raises will have a set ceiling of an additional $5,000 per year, with a ceiling of
$65,000 total annual salary. Minimum pay increases will be tracked based on company success and
profits.
The third facet of our compensation and benefits strategy will be based solely on customer
satisfaction. Customer satisfaction compensation will be given primarily through scheduling benefits

Rational Choice Theory Research Paper
Why do people commit crimes? Some individuals only commit one crime and learn their lesson,
others however become repeat offenders. In the scientific study of criminology, one gains an
understanding of why a person commits a crime, and one can develop ways to control crime or
rehabilitate the criminal. Criminology is guided by dozens of existing theories, some more
distinguished than others.
The rational choice theory of criminology says that people make logical choices about under what
circumstances to commit crime. Rational choice theory originated during the late 18th century with
the work of Cesare Beccaria. The rational choice perspective has been applied to a wide range of
crimes, including robbery, drug use, vandalism, and white collar

One of the main theme in Animal Farm was the use of power in order to control animals in lower

Animal Farm used the songs to control animals in lower class by upper class. The songs were Beasts

John Wycliffe And The Lollards Function
The writings of John Wycliffe and the Lollards function as sort of a prequel to the protestant
reformation that would sweep through England and Europe in the sixteenth century. It is clear that the
Lollards were not all perfect representations of Wycliffe s beliefs. Furthermore, just like the many
divisions of Protestantism, Lollardism was made up of many groups of differing opinion. It was not a
monolith. However, there are numerous discernible similarities in belief between Wycliffe, and his
varied followers, and the eventual English Reformation. The writings of John Wycliffe were a
significant precursor in the political and religious developments of the English Reformation. One of
the primary concerns of Wycliffe was the temporal power of the clergy. His first works, including the
De Civili Dominio, focused on the unwelcomed intrusion of the pope and his clergy into secular
affairs. This was not a view unique to the fourteenth century. Kings had often vied against the Pope for
power throughout the Middle Ages. The extent of the Pope s influence and power in foreign realms
was certainly not a settled issue in England or the rest of Catholic Europe. The De civili dominio
suggests that it is the responsibility of the state, and its secular rulers, to judge the morality of the
church. Wycliffe begins the De civili dominio by establishing precedent for his ideas by referring to
the ancient magi, or three wise men that visited Jesus upon his birth. Wycliffe states a long held

The Importance of Character and a Good Name in The Mayor...
The Importance of Character and a Good Name in The Mayor of Casterbridge Introduction The novel
The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy deals with the importance of character and reputation.
The story is centered on the life of Michael Henchard and his struggle with the consequence of a
decision made as a young man in an inebriated state. The novel begins with Michael, his wife Susan,
and their young daughter Elizabeth Jane arriving in the town of Weyden Priors on Fair Day. Michael
drinks too much and in a fit of temper auctions off his wife and child to a sailor for five guineas.
Michael awakens the next day only to regret his intemperance and the behavior that resulted. He looks
for his family, is unable to find them and along the way goes to a church and swears not to drink for
21years, his age at the time of the incident. It is significant to note that originally Michael blames
Susan for going off with the sailor, Tis like Susan to show such idiotic simplicity. Meek that meekness
has done me more harm than the bittersweet temper (p. 17). However his pledge not to drink indicates
that he accepts some responsibility for his actions. Another noteworthy indication of Michael s
character occurs on the same day. After he has sold his wife and child when he worries, Did I tell my
name last night or didn t I tell my name? (p.17). He is more as concerned with his reputation in a town
that they had just wondered into than the fate of his family. The story

Portrait Of America Chapter 1 Summary
The textbook, Portrait of America: Volume 2, 10th Edition, organized by co authors, Stephen B. Oates
and Charles J. Errico, is supplied with various historical topics written by different, credible authors.
The textbook is, indeed, worth the time to read and understand. The authors express historical people
and events many people have heard of, and expands the reader s mind with personal stories and
unconventional facts, one has not heard of. Most textbooks offer concise information about a person
or event; Portrait of America authors take an unorthodox approach by stating information as well as
revealing their own perspective on the topic. Such a technique as this is unfamiliar to the average
student. Though an unconventional method, the authors are most effective at distributing information
to the reader. Topics covered such as presidents, women, and events that changed America hold
significance to the theory, Portrait of America authors take an idiosyncratic yet superb approach to
delivering information to the reader. In Portrait of America chapter 9, Theodore Roosevelt, President,
British American author Edmund Morris begins the chapter in a strange and unfamiliar way; stating
Theodore Roosevelt s faults. A successful attempt at humor to captivate the attention of the reader,
claiming Roosevelt made rude faces while passing boys on the streets of Washington (94). Morris s
introduction to chapter 9 is unlike what many students are used to. Chapter 21, Harry Truman:

Humanity has been interrelated with ecosystems, and at present, it is essential to reflect social sciences
to environmental issues. Adaptive water management cannot be reached without understanding the
needs of the affected people, and therefore supportable compromise between the community and
institutions is vital. Over a long period of time, the MDB has experienced dramatic changes to its
ecosystems, including the landscape and water cycle. Australia has attempted to revive the ecosystem
of the MDB, and has joined international agreements. Thus the Commonwealth and the State
governments also endeavoured to fulfil a constitutional mandate to perform the country s obligations
under those agreements. As a result, the Water Act and the Basin Plan have been enacted to optimise
the economic, social and environmental outcomes from water use in the MDB. These regulatory
schemes emphasised critical human water needs and imposed limits on use of water by the SDLs.
However it was not easy to satisfy everyone s demand where values, needs, and aspirations of people
differ from community to community, region to region and State to State . Integrative water
management can only be achieved through transparent communication and effective interactions of
different authorities, experts, interest groups, and the public. However the Water Act and the Basin
Plan mainly focused on the scientific experts and organisations, and considered individuals in the
MDB communities less relevant, and therefore the Act and the Plan could not avoid criticism. In
addition, it seems that there are more challenges than benefits of the water management system in the
Water Act and the Basin Plan. It seems correct to state that both ecosystems and human social systems
are complex. However through continuous implementations, the combination of ecology and
sociology will be able to achieve sustainable

Straight Outta Compton is a biopic telling the story of rap group NWA. The movie is for entertainment
but also informs the audience of the rise and fall of not only the group itself but the members. The film
is produced by Ice Cube, Dr Dre, and Tomica Wright, wife of Eazy E, so the portrayal of the
characters is not only authentic, but personal and respectful. The themes, music, and characters make
this movie relatable to minorities. Straight Outta Compton begins with Eric Wright, Eazy E, in the trap
house collecting money from drugs. Before he could get the money the house gets raided by the
police. Not only did the opening scene of the movie involve drugs, but drug use, and drug distribution
were mentioned and displayed throughout the entire movie. The producers included this to show how
prominent drugs were and still are in the black culture. Also, just like drugs, sex was mentioned in the
opening scene of the movie and is displayed throughout the movie. Sex has always played a big part
of the black culture because its talked about in songs and its displayed in shows and movies. Straight
Outta Compton not only shows sex but also what can happen after sex. Eazy Es death was a result of
HIV, which can be transmitted through having sex. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie shows the members being harassed by officers on more than one occasion just because
they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Ice Cube wrote a song called Fuck Da Police which
didn t make things any better. But NWA weren t the only rappers to open up about their hatred of the
law. Even songs today express the same feelings toward police because the same issues are going on
within the black culture. The Rodney King beating was recorded but all four officers were found not
guilty, is similar to Trayvon Martin and Freddie Gray and many other black males were killed by law
enforcement and just like Rodney King their deaths led to

How Technology Can Improve Their Mental Cognition
Franky Nassivera
In a time, where scientists are able to create both usable limbs and organs with the use of a 3d printer;
it comes as no surprise that people would also turn to technology to improve their mental cognition as
well. Companies like Lumosity, CogniFit, and CogMed are constantly advertising for their products
ability to boost a person s intelligence. This however may not be the case. In one of Lumosity s most
recent advertising campaigns, it states that No matter why you want a better brain, lumosity.com can
help. It s like a personal trainer for your brain. Improving your performance with the science of
neuroplasticity, but in a way that just feels like games. Start training with lumosity.com right now, and
discover what your brain can do. (4) Statements like this make Lumosity seem almost like a miracle
drug. This thought is enhanced when before this statement, actors are stating why they would want to
use the product. With quotes like I did it to be quicker. , To stay sharp. , and To remember people s
names. (4) it allows the viewer to associate those results with Lumosity without actually seeing any
evidence. With over 50 million members and over 1.1 billion games played, Lumosity has created an
empire over the brain game industry: growing its user base about 200% year over year from 80,000
members in October 2007. (5) With all of these new users, there should be plenty of information to
support the claim that these games improve

Molar Concentration Lab Report
Introduction:
In 1909 S.P.L. Sorensen published a paper in Biochem Z in which he discussed the effect of H1+ ions
on the activity of enzymes. In the paper he invented the term pH to describe this effect and defined it
as the log[H1+ ]. In 1924 Sorensen realized that the pH of a solution is a function of the quot;activity
quot; of the H1+ ion not the concentration and published a second paper on the subject. A better
definition would be pH= log[aH1+ ], where aH1+ denotes the activity of the H1+ ion. The activity of
an ion is a function of many variables of which concentration is one. It is unfortunate that chemistry
texts use a definition for pH that has been obsolete for over 50 years.

Claudette Colvin Research Paper
Courage of Claudette Colvin
Claudette Colvin was the first black person to sit in the whites only section on the bus not Rosa Parks.
On March 2, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama Claudette Colvin a 15 year old black girl was riding the
bus home from school. A white female passenger got on the bus and told Claudette to get up from the
seat that was located in the whites only section. It was understood blacks were not allowed to sit in the
front of the buses. Claudette refuse to give up her seat, as she practices her Constitutional right.
Claudette felt she paid her bus fare just like the white lady therefore she did not get and give away her
seat. However, Claudette did offer to share her seat with the white lady. The bus driver over hearing
the conversation between Claudette and the white lady took it upon himself to intervene and threated
to call the police on Claudette. The police showed up after being contacted by ... Show more content

Are Humans Inherently Evil In Lord Of The Flies
Statement of intent: I am going to write a persuasive essay about how humans are born evil and are
conditioned by society to act civilised, using Lord of the Flies and Goldings idea that humans are
inherently evil, as well as current and historical events to expand on these ideas. The greatest trick the
devil pulled was convincing the world that there is only one of him David Wong. The critically
acclaimed novel Lord of the Flies written by Nobel Prize winning author William Golding explores
the idea that humans are inherently evil, among other ideas such as the loss of innocence, civilisation
versus savagery and much more. Golding portrayed the idea that humans are inherently evil through
the masterful use of symbols and motifs. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
World War II was the setting for some of the most horrific atrocities man has ever committed. Events
including the Holocaust, concentration camps, atomic bombings and many more were the cause of
over 80,000,000 deaths, which at the time was about 3% of the world s population. The acts of Hitler
and the Nazi party in the war were acts of pure evil. Hitler can be directly compared to Jack from Lord
of the Flies as Jack s leadership was based purely on striking fear into others. He made people believe
that if they didn t join him he would hunt and kill them. Hitler s leadership also followed some of this
vicious dictating. Another example of Golding s idea that humans are inherently evil was the murder
of James Patrick Bulger. James who was murdered on the 12th of February 1993 at the age of two. He
was abducted, tortured and murdered by two ten year old boys, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables.
The mere facts the two murderers were of such a young age and came from such good families is a

Deprived on Sleep
It is important for everyone to get enough sleep, but many people often ignore it. If people do not get
enough sleep they may experience sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation can have negative effects.
When people do not get enough sleep or less, they may feel crabby and unable to function as well as
they usually do the next day. Balancing work and parenting as a single parent in today s society is
tough. Juggling children, work, taking care of home, and cart the children to extracurricular activities
are a lot for one s plate. As single parent I had my share of sleepless nights as well, mostly when either
my children fall sick or when I work extra shift at work. The last time I remember when I had a
sleepless night was when both of these factors together came to hunt me. I agreed to work extra hours
at the hospital because the night shift secretary was unable to come into work. Although I had worked
a 12 hour shift, I still had enough energy to work at less five more hours that I had agreed too. At the
end of my shift I was ready for a hot shower and my warm bed to rest. My daughter came down with a
fever that night. She was vomiting, and could not keep any fluids down. My daughter was restless and
was only able to sleep an hour at a time. I wasn t really able to sleep at all because I was constantly
checking her temperature. Each time she vomited or even tossed and fussed in her sleep I was up with
her. Of course when the sun had risen I immediately took my daughter to the

Hampton Machine Tool Company
Hampton Machine Tool Company
1. Why can t a profitable firm like Hampton repay its loan on time and why does it need more bank
financing? What major developments between November 1978 and August 1979 contributed to this
situation?
A/ Hampton Machine Tool Company was unable to repay its loan on time due to several factors. One
of such factors is the fact that the stock repurchase, for which the loan was initially requested, was a
major cash disbursement of $3 million. In the period between November 1978 and August 1979, stock
repurchase represented 58% of total expenditures for that period, while inventory purchases
represented 42% of total expenditures. There were some developments that also contributed to this
situation. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the main reasons for this negative cash balance may be that Hampton is experiencing liquidity
problems, that is, they are not generating enough cash to pay for their current expenses. Another factor
that may contribute to such phenomenon is the delays in production that Hampton has had because
suppliers have not delivered the raw materials. The inventory conversion period is greater than what
Hampton can finance because the cash conversion cycle is even greater than collections from
customers.
4. Critically evaluate the assumptions on which your forecasts are based. What developments could
alter your results? Is Mr. Cowins correct in his belief that Hampton can repay the loan in December?
Some of the assumptions include: One assumption that should be clearly analyzed is that the
collection period is of 30 days net. Not always customers have the ability and willingness to pay off
their debts in 30 days, some may take more time, and some could incur in bad debt. Another
assumption Hampton is making is that the company will be able to pay off debts in 30 days. There is
no 100% certainty this will happen. The assumption that accruals and prepaid expenses will remain
fairly stable and constant should be analyzed more clearly, because this is not always the case.
Another assumption is that the shipments are going to be made exactly as they forecasted. It is
important to note that in the

Rolling in the Street
Rolling in the Street In May 2013, Major Bloomberg launched a new bicycle program to have an
additional mode of transportation for the citizens and visitors of New York City. The Department of
Transportation chose to have a Public Private Partnership with Alta Bicycle Share over a fully public
operated system in order to have an effective and faster delivery of the project. In addition, Citibank
paid $41 million and Master Card $6 million to be the title sponsors for the bike share program.
Although supporters of the bike sharing program are hopeful Citi Bike will reduce congestion and
boost public health by active transportation, in a big city like New York, only a selected part of the
population will be enjoying the benefits. This paper aims at addressing how public private
partnerships effectively increase the level of production and efficiency, but negatively affect other
important sectors of the economy. Presently, the key stakeholders are the government, the suppliers of
the bikes, the employees, the costumers and the community. Each of these groups contributes in some
way and has their own opinions, views and suggestions for the project. These stakeholders are crucial
for Citi Bike and therefore their interests must be recognized in order to facilitate the development of
the project. The Department of Transportation s (DOT) main interest is to provide safe, efficient and

Coca Cola And Its Impact On Society
Coca Cola a leading manufacturer, distributor and marketer of soft drink products. Coca Cola was not
always the sugary syrup soft drink most people know today. As a matter of fact, before 1886 Coca
Cola was made with alcohol and cocaine. Concocted by Dr. John Pemberton a pharmacist in Atlanta
Georgia Coca Cola was originally named Pemberton s French Wine Coca. Dr. Pemberton marketed
the drink as a cure all for mental and physical disorders and was sold from a soda fountain at his local
drug store. A step ahead of prohibition, Dr. Pemberton replace the wine in his formula with a sugary

in the United States of America. Coca Cola as we know today still contains coca but the narcotic
portion of cocaine, it is removed. Today, Coca Cola has expanded to over 200+ countries. From
concerts to sport venues to local restaurants you are more than likely to come across a Coca Cola
product, Coca Cola has had such an impact on society that it is given credit for how we portray Santa

diseases. Coca Cola has been known to cause several health issues such as diabetes, liver problems
and heart disease. There has been scientific research that has proven how Coca Cola effects the human

Internet Predators
Why we should be worried about the Deep web
Unknown to most, the Deep Web actually exists and only takes a few clicks on your computer to
access it, if you know what you re doing. Also unknown to most is the illegal activity and the online
predators that are roaming all over the web. These predators can be financial predators or sexual
predators. Throughout this essay I will be explaining three themes in chronological order. Financial
predators, sexual predators, and discussing why the illegal activity on the Deep web is bad for society.
Financial predators are everywhere on the web, and they might cost you a fortune. Financial predators
host scams and use fake identities to get bank details to rip you off through an online purchase that
you think is safe. An example of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As thousands of sexual predators roam the web and on most commonly used sites, only 18% of youth

trying to get sexual related images from them by targeting young vulnerable people, unable to judge
the seriousness of the situation or through blackmail. This is what happened in the case of Scottish
teenager Daniel Perry earlier this year, resulting in his suicide. Sexual predators can also be connected
to the Deep web by exploiting nudity or sexual content of a child or young adult on a CP website,
which stands for child pornography. These can also be sold on the Deep web for an exchange of
bitcoin. These are just more examples of why we should be worried and most importantly informed of
how dangerous the Deep web is so we can avoid the bad situations we may come

shelter to refugees from El Salvador and Guatemala. It all began when the Salvadoran government had

the country. The movement was formed to offer protection to these undocumented refugees that were
fleeing the Central American wars that plagued their homes. An estimated 18,000 to 20,000 people
were killed or disappeared in the 1980 s alone. Thousands of Salvadorans fled the violence, coming

Film Review Of The Film Slumdog Millionaire
Film review Tittle of the film is Slumdog Millionaire . The director of this heart breaking film is
Danny Boyle. The film was released in 2008 and it lasts for about 2 hours. This movie is based on the
book Q and A by Vikas Swarup. (Wikipedia) The film itself portrays a powerful sense of prejudice. It
shows the vast divide between people with money and power, as opposed to those who are poor and
have nothing. This movie challenges the stereotype that poor people cannot be smart through retelling
the life of an Indian boy. Summary This is a heartbreakingly sad but also a truthful movie. We get to
see what conditions many people must live in. The storyline is about an Indian boy Jamal Malik who
joined the TV show who wants to be a millionaire . The entire film is based on flashbacks that Jamal is
at the local police station. After the first part of the show, he was sent there for interrogation, as the
show host thought he might have cheated. However, no matter how long and brutal the interrogation
was, he remained calm and insisted that he knew all the answers. After the chief of police replayed the
entire episode of the TV show, Jamal was able to document every single answer based on the events
that took place during his life. During the movie we are introduced to two other characters, Salim and
Latika. Since they were kids, they portrayed themselves as the three musketeers. Starting the life in the
slums their paths have been crossed many times under different circumstances. Surprisingly, each
question asked during the show is somehow tied to certain events that has taken place during Jamal s
life. He goes on about telling all the fragments from his life to prove the fact that he knew the answers.
In the end, the police officer shows him mercy and compassion, by believing in him and delivering
him back to the TV show with an escort to make sure justice is upheld. Danny Boyle is an English
director and film producer. Boyle started his career directing television series, including criminal serial
Inspector Morse. Their international breakthrough he received with the film Trainspotting.

Subconscious Mind In Brave New World Essay
Aldous Huxley s Brave New World contains many extremes, from not having viviparous reproduction
to having lots of sex and taking lots of drug to not having any literature and to revolving everything
around Ford. The controllers in Brave New World control the people of the society by exploiting
Freud s studies of the subconscious mind.
Freud believed that through hypnosis one could go into one s subconscious and recover a memory that
was hidden from the conscious mind. In Brave New World the controllers of the society use Freud s
idea of accessing the subconscious while people are under hypnosis. Instead of retrieving lost
memories, they implant phrases, truths that must be believed on the deepest level possible: the
subconscious. One hundred repetitions three nights a week for four years, thought Bernard Marx, who
was a specialist on hypnopædia. Sixty two thousand four hundred repetitions make one truth. (Page

Social Class Analysis
When trying to establish ones self in society we are typically concerned with what kind of social class
or rank we fall into. In society, people attempt to define themselves according to specific social class
by what kind of things they own or how they may act. The theory of conspicuous consumption coined
by the Norwegian American economist and sociologist Thorstein Veblen can help realize a further
understanding in social classes and how they influence people. In essence, the overall goal of
conspicuous consumption is to demonstrate superiority over some other group of people or social
class. Typically when someone is referred to as a redneck it is not exactly a good thing. When
classifying someone under a certain class status we usually consider the things they buy/own, where
they live, how they act, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However even though it can have a great influence, economic status does not solely define someone s
social class. In order to maintain a certain social class one must adhere to a set of standards set by
society for that social class. When considering JD8 s various home improvement projects, they do not
meet the social class qualifications that the author believes he and the rest of the people that live in the
neighborhood belong to. For JD8, it does not matter if his home improvement project has a positive or
negative effect on the appearance of his home but just rather does the end result of the project do what
it is supposed to do. Though for the author appearance is just as important as functionality as well.

JD8 and the author lie. In the sense of sophistication of furnishings, JD8 s home improvement projects

The Development And Testing Of An Intermediate Concept...
Ability of Children to
Identify Bad Choices and Justifications
Kent S. Michael
The University of Alabama
Introduction Stephen Thoma, W. Pitt Derryberry, and H. Michael Crowson published an article (2013)
outlining the development and testing of an intermediate concept measure (ICM) of moral reasoning
on an adolescent population, and one of the unexpected findings was the difficulty of research
participants to accurately identify bad choices and justifications (Thoma et al., 2013). It is important to
note that an analogous pattern was found in a previous study utilizing the ICM with young adults in
their last year of dental school (Bebeau Thoma, 1999). To the author s knowledge, a similar study has
not been conducted on a younger segment of the population. The purpose of this proposal is to assess
whether children aged 9 11 also struggle when identifying bad choices and justifications.
Literature Review
Moral Reasoning A brief overview of the history of moral psychology in the Kohlbergian tradition is
necessary to understand the significance and need for the current proposal. Jean Piaget presented his
construct of moral reasoning in his theory of development, and he found there were two stages of
moral reasoning heterenomous and autonomous. The former is associated with Piaget s concrete
operational stage as moral reasoning is dependent upon the relational context of the child and
authority figures (parents, God, etc.) and is inductive by nature. The latter is

The Time Of The Butterflies By Julia Alvarez Essay
The Dominican Republic is a place where novels take place and authors are raised. In the book In the
Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez, focuses her attention on writing about her life for others to
see. Although the book was not published until 1994, Alvarez portrays her younger days into the book
and how the time was back then in the 1950 s. Moving through the novel, readers see an overview of
the book, the life of the author and how it all can all relate to the culture of dictatorship in the
Dominican Republic. In this non fiction historical novel, it allows readers to get a sense of the lives
the girls went through. Readers learn from the very beginning something traumatic has happened for
only one of the four sisters to be alive. A chill goes through her, for she feels it in her bones, the future
is now beginning. By the time it is over, it will be the past, and she does not want to be the only one
left to tell their story (Alvarez 10). As the exposition starts off, Dede, the only sister alive, is asked
about her sisters which lead to a trip down memory lane. One of the three sisters decides to get
married and have children while the other two decide to join the revolution against Trujillo which
leads to the conflict of the story. Patria is the oldest of the three who chose to get married at an early

that his country needed him to act.
The story began with Benjamin s return to his hometown. The member of the family were introduced

United Kingdom known as Britain is well known for conquering multiple colonies and ruling them for long period of times. • 5. Non-Rapid Eye Movement The first stage is called the Non Rapid Eye Movement (NREM 1) sleep. This stage occurs between wakefulness and sleep, and it typically lasts between 1 to 10 minutes immediately following sleep onset. ( Stages of Sleep Non REM and REM Sleep Cycles | Tuck Sleep ) The body muscles are not inhibited, and the eyes roll while the eyelids may remain slightly open. In addition, breathing rate, blood pressure, and brain temperature decrease. The brain activity transitions from exhibiting alpha waves (8 13 Hz) to theta waves (4 7 Hz). (Foundation) Some people in NREM 1 sleep may experience sudden twitches or hypnotic jerks, and even albeit rarely hypnagogic hallucinations. (Stickgold and Walker) The second stage of the sleep cycle is the Non Rapid Eye Movement (NREM 2) sleep. This lasts about 20 minutes and is characterized by decreases in the heart rate and body temperature. In this stage, theta activity is observed. ( Stages of Sleep Non REM and REM Sleep Cycles | Tuck Sleep ) Any remaining alpha waves from the previous episode of wakefulness are interrupted by sleep spindles, which are bursts of high frequency activity originating from the reticular nucleus of the thalamus. (Stickgold and Walker) Muscular activity decreases and conscious awareness of the external environment disappears. NREM 1 and NREM 2 together are often referred to as light sleep. • 6. For Many Years, Romanticism Dominated English Literature, For many years, Romanticism dominated English literature, and consequently American literature, as American writers were heavily influenced by the English. Writers like Poe and Hawthorne were leaders in this form of literature. As thinking changed scientifically, philosophically and spiritually, so did literature. Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn showed American culture in a way it had never been shown, and in doing so became arguably the most famous piece of realist literature. His novel exemplifies the rejection of romantic ideals. Realism started in France, as the rejection of the popular romantic novels. While romantic novels were usually overly dramatic and emotional, realist novels were objective and without a touch of personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He shows the other characters personalities for what they really are, He just gives details of what he sees, giving the reader a realistic view. Huck s literalness and practicality sometimes make it difficult for him to even play and fantasize the way children do. For example, Tom; a very romantic character, starts a gang with the local boys.Tom says the gang must sign a blood oath, and if they leave the gang their whole family must be murdered. He talks about how the gang will be highwaymen, robbing and killing caravans as they pass by. Huck, being the realistic character he is, takes this completely literal. The gang conducts a raid on what Tom said was a huge meeting between Spanish merchants and Rich A rabs; when it turns out to be a sunday school picnic, Huck is disappointed. Tom then convinces Huck that Genies had made the whole thing disappear, he then tells Huck how to get conjure the Genie. Huck tries, and reaction shows his realist personality and his reluctance to trust superstition So then I judged that all that stuff was only just one of Tom Sawyer s lies. I reckoned he believed in the A rabs and the elephants, but as for me I think different. It had all the marks of a Sunday school. (Twain, 1884, p. 115, lines 3 5). Huck deals with many hardships in his life, which is a very real concept, as everything is not always perfect and easy. His hardships include a dead mother and a drunken father. ... These two types of protein exotoxins produced by the Clostridium difficile bacillus, toxin A and toxin B, can have an infectious form and a non active, non infectious form (Grossman, 2010). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Treatments Clostridium difficile associated disease will resolve when the patient discontinues taking the antibiotics to which he/she has been previously exposed (Nipa, 2010). Administration of a different antibiotic is used to treat the infection (Grossman, 2010). The infection can usually be treated with an appropriate course of about 10 days of antibiotics including metronidazole or vancomycin administered orally (Nipa, 2010). On occasion intravenous vancomycin may be necessary (Gould, 2010). The nurse should ensure patients are not only taking the newly prescribed antibiotic, but also responding to the treatment by showing a decrease in symptoms. • 8. The Herbal And Dietary Supplement Market INTRODUCTION Nutraceutical, a term derived from the words nutrition and pharmaceutical refers to food or a constituent of the food which has been scientifically proven to provide health and therapeutic benefits such as the prevention and treatment of a disease. The term was formulated by Dr Stephen de Felice in 1989. Nutraceuticals have a role in maintaining and improving the wellbeing and health of an individual as well as regulating immunity. In recent years, concerns have been raised and approaches have been suggested into reforming the Senate. Those in favour of taking drastic measures to reform or even abolish the Senate agree that the Senate is not functioning and not a trustworthy part of Canadian government. For the maintenance of the Senate there are four proposed approaches; minor renovation, deferred abolition, housekeeping, and maintenance of the Senate. Firstly, minor renovations would cause only small changes that would not make the Senate go through the amending formula. These small changes would enforce term limits and allow for voters to select nominees for the upper chamber (Brodie 2013). Although not direct elections this will make the Senate more democratic since Canadians will be allowed to have some say in plausible Senators rather than them being solely appointed by the Prime Minister. Deferred abolition (or demolition) would postpone any changes until the federal election in 2025. This approach would put a gun to the head of the status quo: you have ten years to achieve reform...or it s lights out in the Red Chamber (Morton 2013). By having pressure put on the Senate the hope is to start change since there is a time limit on what can be done. There has always been talk about what needs to be changed but by putting a time limit on change will encourage the Senate to start to take the steps it needs to be effective. Another approach is the approach of housekeeping, which consists of change being started from within the Senate itself. Housekeeping calls for more transparency and for the Senate to be held accountable (Black 2013). For the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

John Wycliffe And The Lollards Function The writings of John Wycliffe and the Lollards function as sort of a prequel to the protestant reformation that would sweep through England and Europe in the sixteenth century. It is clear that the Lollards were not all perfect representations of Wycliffe s beliefs. Furthermore, just like the many divisions of Protestantism, Lollardism was made up of many groups of differing opinion. It was not a monolith. However, there are numerous discernible similarities in belief between Wycliffe, and his varied followers, and the eventual English Reformation. The writings of John Wycliffe were a significant precursor in the political and religious developments of the English Reformation. One of the primary concerns of Wycliffe was the temporal power of the clergy. His first works, including the De Civili Dominio, focused on the unwelcomed intrusion of the pope and his clergy into secular affairs. This was not a view unique to the fourteenth century. Kings had often vied against the Pope for power throughout the Middle Ages. The extent of the Pope s influence and power in foreign realms was certainly not a settled issue in England or the rest of Catholic Europe. The De civili dominio suggests that it is the responsibility of the state, and its secular rulers, to judge the morality of the church. Wycliffe begins the De civili dominio by establishing precedent for his ideas by referring to the ancient magi, or three wise men that visited Jesus upon his birth. Wycliffe states a long held ... The Importance of Character and a Good Name in The Mayor of Casterbridge Introduction The novel The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy deals with the importance of character and reputation. The story is centered on the life of Michael Henchard and his struggle with the consequence of a decision made as a young man in an inebriated state. The novel begins with Michael, his wife Susan, and their young daughter Elizabeth Jane arriving in the town of Weyden Priors on Fair Day. Michael drinks too much and in a fit of temper auctions off his wife and child to a sailor for five guineas. Michael awakens the next day only to regret his intemperance and the behavior that resulted. He looks for his family, is unable to find them and along the way goes to a church and swears not to drink for 21years, his age at the time of the incident. It is significant to note that originally Michael blames Susan for going off with the sailor, Tis like Susan to show such idiotic simplicity. Meek that meekness has done me more harm than the bittersweet temper (p. 17). However his pledge not to drink indicates that he accepts some responsibility for his actions. Another noteworthy indication of Michael s character occurs on the same day. After he has sold his wife and child when he worries, Did I tell my name last night or didn t I tell my name? (p.17). He is more as concerned with his reputation in a town that they had just wondered into than the fate of his family. The story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The authors express historical people and events many people have heard of, and expands the reader s mind with personal stories and unconventional facts, one has not heard of. Most textbooks offer concise information about a person or event; Portrait of America authors take an unorthodox approach by stating information as well as revealing their own perspective on the topic. Humanity has been interrelated with ecosystems, and at present, it is essential to reflect social sciences to environmental issues. Adaptive water management cannot be reached without understanding the needs of the affected people, and therefore supportable compromise between the community and institutions is vital. Over a long period of time, the MDB has experienced dramatic changes to its ecosystems, including the landscape and water cycle. Australia has attempted to revive the ecosystem of the MDB, and has joined international agreements. Thus the Commonwealth and the State governments also endeavoured to fulfil a constitutional mandate to perform the country s obligations under those agreements. As a result, the Water Act and the Basin Plan have been enacted to optimise the economic, social and environmental outcomes from water use in the MDB. These regulatory schemes emphasised critical human water needs and imposed limits on use of water by the SDLs. However it was not easy to satisfy everyone s demand where values, needs, and aspirations of people differ from community to community, region to region and State to State . Integrative water management can only be achieved through transparent communication and effective interactions of different authorities, experts, interest groups, and the public. However the Water Act and the Basin Plan mainly focused on the scientific experts and organisations, and considered individuals in the MDB communities less relevant, and therefore the Act and the Plan could not avoid criticism. In addition, Citibank paid $41 million and Master Card $6 million to be the title sponsors for the bike share program. Although supporters of the bike sharing program are hopeful Citi Bike will reduce congestion and boost public health by active transportation, in a big city like New York, only a selected part of the population will be enjoying the benefits. This paper aims at addressing how public private partnerships effectively increase the level of production and efficiency, but negatively affect other important sectors of the economy. Presently, the key stakeholders are the government, the suppliers of the bikes, the employees, the costumers and the community. Each of these groups contributes in some way and has their own opinions, views and suggestions for the project. These stakeholders are crucial for Citi Bike and therefore their interests must be recognized in order to facilitate the development of the project. The city grew an astounding 560 percent from 1880 to 1930, when it reached a population of 900,429. The era also marks the golden age of banking and the building of countless, elaborate banks before the Wall Street crash of 1929 that signaled the start of the Great Depression. The former Ameritrust Tower and former Cleveland Trust rotunda were perfect examples of American ruin porn. The once striking tower, designed by modernist master Marcel Breuer, was rotting away in broad daylight. The hotel s $170 million redevelopment ranks among downtown Cleveland s biggest and brightest symbols of revival. Although the façade of the historic buildings hasn t changed much, the spaces inside of them got a major facelift, igniting an area of Downtown Cleveland that has been dormant for such a long time. Internet Predators Why we should be worried about the Deep web Unknown to most, the Deep Web actually exists and only takes a few clicks on your computer to access it, if you know what you re doing. Also unknown to most is the illegal activity and the online predators that are roaming all over the web. These predators can be financial predators or sexual predators. Throughout this essay I will be explaining three themes in chronological order. Financial predators, sexual predators, and discussing why the illegal activity on the Deep web is bad for society. Financial predators are everywhere on the web, and they might cost you a fortune. Financial predators host scams and use fake identities to get bank details to rip you off through an online purchase that you think is safe. An example of a ... This is what happened in the case of Scottish teenager Daniel Perry earlier this year, resulting in his suicide. Sexual predators can also be connected to the Deep web by exploiting nudity or sexual content of a child or young adult on a CP website, which stands for child pornography. Subconscious Mind In Brave New World Essay Aldous Huxley s Brave New World contains many extremes, from not having viviparous reproduction to having lots of sex and taking lots of drug to not having any literature and to revolving everything around Ford. The controllers in Brave New World control the people of the society by exploiting Freud s studies of the subconscious mind. Freud believed that through hypnosis one could go into one s subconscious and recover a memory that was hidden from the conscious mind. In Brave New World the controllers of the society use Freud s idea of accessing the subconscious while people are under hypnosis. Instead of retrieving lost memories, they implant phrases, truths that must be believed on the deepest level possible: the subconscious. One hundred repetitions three nights a week for four years, thought Bernard Marx, who was a specialist on hypnopædia. Sixty two thousand four hundred repetitions make one truth. (Page 47). • 38. Social Class Analysis When trying to establish ones self in society we are typically concerned with what kind of social class or rank we fall into. In society, people attempt to define themselves according to specific social class by what kind of things they own or how they may act. The theory of conspicuous consumption coined by the Norwegian American economist and sociologist Thorstein Veblen can help realize a further understanding in social classes and how they influence people. In essence, the overall goal of conspicuous consumption is to demonstrate superiority over some other group of people or social class. Michael The University of Alabama Introduction Stephen Thoma, W. Pitt Derryberry, and H. Michael Crowson published an article (2013) outlining the development and testing of an intermediate concept measure (ICM) of moral reasoning on an adolescent population, and one of the unexpected findings was the difficulty of research participants to accurately identify bad choices and justifications (Thoma et al., 2013). It is important to note that an analogous pattern was found in a previous study utilizing the ICM with young adults in their last year of dental school (Bebeau Thoma, 1999). To the author s knowledge, a similar study has not been conducted on a younger segment of the population. The purpose of this proposal is to assess whether children aged 9 11 also struggle when identifying bad choices and justifications. Literature Review Moral Reasoning A brief overview of the history of moral psychology in the Kohlbergian tradition is necessary to understand the significance and need for the current proposal. Jean Piaget presented his construct of moral reasoning in his theory of development, and he found there were two stages of moral reasoning heterenomous and autonomous. The former is associated with Piaget s concrete operational stage as moral reasoning is dependent upon the relational context of the child and authority figures (parents, God, etc.) and is inductive by nature.
