The War On Drugs And Drugs
The war on drugs is a long going battle and it has created many issues all around the world and as of
today the highest prison population can be found in the United States due to drug charges. About half
of the inmates with in federal and state prisons can be found on drug convictions. Those charges can
range from possession of an illicit substance to drug trafficking that surprisingly continues to be an
issue in federal and state prisons. How can United States put an end to the war on drugs?
Many people cope with drug use, abuse, and many inmates who have been convicted on drug offenses
deal with addiction as well. The United States has the leading amount of people within the prison
system and most are for drug offenses nevertheless, many of those people contend with drug
addiction. Drug addiction is a disease that so many cope with; it is reliance on a substance and for
whatever reason the addiction continues to take over one s life and choices. Drug abusers can
sometimes see a means to an end when it comes to their drug addiction, whether its alcohol, a
hardcore drug like heroin or cocaine, or prescription medication the person will do what it takes to
feed their addiction. People have their reasons for why they need to do drugs, it could be to escape
their own reality, a coping mechanism, or it could be just because it makes them feel good. Sometimes
that need can surpass a person s better judgement leading to criminal acts being committed because
they need to

Comparing The American Dream In John Steinbeck s Of Mice...
The Great American Dream What is the American Dream? The American Dream is described by many
as their life goals. In John Steinbeck s book, Of Mice and Men , the Great American Dream has a
different meaning to everyone as it depends on the person who is dreaming of a life goal. Some ways
The Dream is described in Steinbeck s book is owning a small portion of the United States, or
becoming an actress, or even just equality between humans. However, for some people, that is just too
much to ask. In Robert Burns poem To a Mouse , he writes The best laid schemes of mice and men

The Rocket Boys Research Paper
Sonny and the rest of the Rocket Boys had to follow through with many steps in order to complete
their process of making rocks. With little knowledge, the rocket boys had to believe in themselves that
they could succeed in building rockets. There were many steps the Rocket Boys had to go through like
things such as, finding the right materials to use, learn more math and science equations, and most
importantly, they had to learn how to build the rockets. With their knowledge and support from the
community around them, the Rocket Boys had enough confidence to create many different rockets.

The first rocket the boys launched was off of Elsie s fence. The rocket blew up the fence and did not
fly at all. But, they learned from their mistakes and kept trying. Many of the problems the Rocket
Boys ran into while launching rockets were small and harmless. However, they ran into one major
problem. There ended up being a forest fire in the county next to Coalwood, and the boys were blamed
for the starting of that fire. But with Sonny s knowledge with the harder math and science equations,
he realized it wasn t their rocket that started that fire. After Sonny figured that out, they could continue
on and pursue their dreams of going to college, winning the science fair, and even doing something in
their lives other than coal mining. The principal sent Sonny to the National Science Fair in
Indianapolis, Indiana. All the hard work and dedication the boys put into rocket building had finally
been paid off. Sonny and the Rocket Boys won first place at the science fair. When Sonny returned
home, they launched their last rocket. The whole town was practically by their side for this launching.
With launching the final rocket, Auk XXXI, the rocket was six and a half feet long and two and a
quarter inches in diameter. The rocket reached a height of 31,000 feet. With the town s support and the

The Political Reform Of A Democracy Essay
The basis of a democracy goes back as far as 507 B.C. It was introduced by Ancient Athens first
leader Cleisthenes. His primary mean was to ensure equality among his people; however, Cleisthenes
equality declaration only spread so far and accomplished so much. Only forty thousand men over the
age of eighteen were allowed to be part of Athens political affairs. This Athenian democracy was
separated into three parts: the ekklesia a sovereign governing body that wrote laws and dictated
foreign policy; the boule a council of representatives from the ten Athenian tribes; and the dikasteria
the popular courts in which citizens argued cases before a group of lottery selected jurors. Cleisthenes
democracy only survived for two centuries. However, his political reform of a democracy is one of
Ancient Greece s best contributions to the entire world. Democracy is defined as a form of
government in which the supreme power is vested in the people, and exercised directly by them or by
their elected agents under a free electoral system. It is also defined as a state of democracy
characterized by formal equality of rights at privileges. In short terms, a democracy is ran for the
people, by the people. It is primarily focused on the equality among people, and those same people are
able to control who holds the power in their economy. We, the United States, run as a democracy.
Though, the electoral votes are those that are only accounted for in the election, our vote

Evaluating Company s Strengths And Weaknesses
Evaluating Company s Strengths
A lot could be learned about a business by compiling all the relevant ratios taken from the business
financial statement. Ratios taken from financial statement according to Sobel, M MBA in a nutshell
are a testament of a given organization s solvency; which is the ability of an organization to meet its
financial obligations. These obligations are efficiency and profitability. While some ratios apply across
the board of an industry, they also tend to differ by industry.

Usually, according to Sobel, M MBA in a nutshell , one of the most common causes of new business
failure is undercapitalization. Fledgling organization like Nano Brewery with solid product lines and
good marketing efforts may nonetheless require a great deal of funding if it plans to expand. Liquidity
Ratio or Quick Ratio: The liquidity ratio or quick ratio according to Sobel, M MBA in a nutshell , is
another measure of short term solvency, in relative terms. This is considered a conservative indicator,
according to Sobel, M MBA in a nutshell , given that the assets represented in the numerator of the
ratio do not include inventory, which is difficult to liquidate quickly. The formula that expresses this
is:
Liquidity ratio = Cash + accounts receivable + marketable securities divided by Current liabilities
Placing the values from the balance sheet into the formula
Liquidity ratio = $10,972.18 divided by $4,073 = 2.7
An organization s quick ratio is supposed to be greater than 1.1. From the result above, we can see that
we have 2.7. Debt to Equity Ratio: The debt to equity ratio according to Sobel, M MBA in a nutshell

Boiling Point Lab Report
Introduction/Purpose To determine whether boiling point, density, mass, and volume are intensive or
extensive properties two experiments will be conducted. One experiment will be dedicated to identify
if boiling point is an intensive or extensive property by boiling water at different quantities. The other
experiment will identify if density and mass are intensive or extensive properties by utilizing a grape.
The experiment will consist of measuring the mass and volume of a grape to determine the density.
Both of these experiments will aid to classify boiling point, density, mass, and volume as either
intensive or extensive properties, for the reason that the properties will either remain identical or will
alter due to the quantity of the property thus being able to categorize the properties accurately.
Understanding boiling point, density, mass, and volume and being able to classify them as either
intensive or extensive properties will enhance our knowledge of these properties and ultimately
innovate our daily lives. For instance, unknown material can be identified by knowing the boiling
point, density, mass, and volume of the substance. Intensive properties aid the process of identifying
unknown substances for the reason that they don t depend on the quantity of the substance nor do they
alter. Although, extensive properties do alter due to quantity that is present, they differentiate between
matters. Therefore, both of the experiments will aid in the knowledge and

Agriculture In The 1920 s Essay
Changes in Agricultural Technology in the 1920s 1930s The turn of the century was perhaps one of the
most interesting times in the agricultural scene of America. The turn from the 1800s to the 1900s
sparked a technological revolution that extended not just to urban environments, but to rural areas and
farmers. Farmers found the majority of this revolution in the 1920s and 1930s, a time when machinery
was revitalized in order to make the farming industry easier. Before this time, farmers will still using

Secondhand Smoke
For one to understand the effects of second hand smoke, one must look into the facts and figures of
harm caused by second hand smoke. In order to eliminate the problems caused by second hand smoke,
at least in public places, a national law needs to be passed to ban smoking from all indoor public
places, such as bus stops, restaurants, and other work places. We can make this approach in many
ways we can write articles, make billboard signs or we can even make tv ads to convince people that
this is an issue and what we can do about it. An ad from California relates to the issue of smoking in a
work environment to the states who do not have these types of smoking laws.where many people have
to breath in the smoke. The ad was posted by TobaccoFreeCA.com and it says I breath second hand
smoke so I can keep my job. Secondhand smoke is harmful and is dangerous and has many harmful
side effects. We need to create laws to keep people who are in public areas safe and not so exposed to
this. Countless people who don t smoke go to their jobs and basically are forced to become smokers
by breathing in the second hand smoke is what this billboard is trying to convey to us. They can t just

Stereotypes And Stereotypes Of The Black Community
Throughout the history of motion pictures, prejudice directors have used film to control how the
general public views certain demographics of people. In particular, the black community has
historically been viewed in a negative light. Stereotypes were created through literature and film that
still affect African Americans. Directors and writers would create relatable stories and attach
demeaning traits to black people that have qualities in common with Black Americans. This would
force readers and viewers to subconsciously attach these stereotypes black people. Examples of these
stereotypes can be found in Uncle Tom s Cabin and The Birth of a Nation. Derogatory terms such as

Essay On Obesity Epidemic
More than one third or 78.6 million of U.S. adults are obese , according to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention. Obesity does not only mean a bigger waist line, but also a greater chance at
developing life threating health problems. Preventable diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes
and certain types of cancer are increased in individuals who are considered obese (CDC). While
physical activity plays an important role in a healthy lifestyle, what one consumes is also a significant
factor. With obesity at staggering high rates, healthy food choices should be made more available and
affordable, while the price of unhealthy food and drinks should be increased to help bring a decline to
this ongoing epidemic.
To understand the full extent of the obesity epidemic, one must first understand what the term obese
indicates. A person whose BMI, or body mass index, ranges above 30 is considered obese. The healthy
BMI range for a normal person is between 19 and 24 (CDC). When an individual consumes more
energy, or calories, than they use, the excess calories are stored in the body as fat and thus causes
weight gain. Over time, without both reduction of calorie intake and increased activity , a larger
amount of fat is stored and as a result obesity occurs (Diet and ... Show more content on

We are not the sum of our weaknesses and failures; we are the sum of the Father s love for us and our

forgiving, selfless, and loving man. Born on May 18, 1920 in Wadowice, Poland; John Paul II suffered
a number of tragedies in the early years of his life. By the age of the twenty he lost all of his

Pope John Paul II like any other religious authority was an opponent of war and denounced it on any
such chance he could. During the time period of his reign many wars and massacres took place, and
Pope John Paul did everything he could to prevent or shorten these wars such as speaking to the
political leaders involved, or saying words of courage and reform to the people. Pope John Paul also
played an important role in the fall of communism in his native Poland. Through his words of prayer

communism in Poland for good. For this His Holiness also received the Presidential Medal of

respect for all other religions. It was often talked about his relations with leaders of all other religions
and the religions itself. There were three things that most people say Pope John Paul II loved the most.

Trachea Research Paper
Air from the environment enters through the nasal cavities that are lined with a ciliated mucus
membrane that helps warm, filter, and moisten the air. The air then goes to the pharynx (where oral
and nasal cavity meet) and then down the main airway in the respiratory system or the trachea. The
trachea is made up of tough cartilage rings that keep the passageway open and are also lined with
ciliated mucus membrane that helps remove microscopic particles and bring them back to the pharynx.
The trachea contains the larynx or the voice box that vibrates when air passes over it and the epiglottis
that covers the trachea when you swallow in order to prevent choking. The trachea then branches off
into two bronchi that go to the lungs. The bronchi then extend to smaller passageways called
bronchioles located in the lungs that no longer have cartilage rings. The alveoli are the air sacs

The Criticism Of George Henry Hastings Sibley
Was the criticism of Gov./Col. Sibley justified? Describe what his explanations were and the
arguments of those who wanted him to hurry up. Draw a conclusion evaluating which arguments were

Governor Henry Hastings Sibley is a memorable figure in Minnesota history, but one that is laced with
controversy and suspicion. These controversies extend from his early career in fur trading to his
leadership of Minnesota s militia in the Great Sioux Uprising of 1862. The criticism of Governor
Sibley was mainly because of his hesitation to engage with the Indians and his constant complaints to
territorial governor Alexander Ramsey about lack of men and supplies, but is simply not justified
when the full scope of his problems are understood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lack of horses meant that Sibley could not reconnoiter the wilderness between St. Peter and Ft.
Ridgeley, which left his army much more vulnerable to surprise attack. Also, Sibley was placed in
charge of the refugees who had escaped to St. Peters and were now looking for shelter and food.
Sibley also feared the much larger Indian population that his army had to face. Sibley intended to be a
thorough and careful commander. His troops would move against the Indians only when they were
fully prepared (122). This slowed Sibley down because he refused to take a steamboat to Shakopee
until he had the supplies he felt necessary to take on the Indians. At Ft. Ridgely, anger and fear
festered after the first attack on the fort as to when reinforcements would come. This also held true for
the town of New Ulm which was scrambling to defend itself under the leadership of Colonel Flandrau.
While these towns were being attacked, Sibley had gathered an army of 1,340 troops, but still
complained about the lack of supplies and training his men had. As the book aptly put it, however,
...neither were the defenders of New Ulm and Fort Ridgley, and they fought with determination,
improvised when necessary, and made do without what they could not get and still they bested
superior numbers of Indians (177 178). Sibley s delays in advancing his troops and attacking the
Indians caused heavy responses from the people of Minnesota. Many called for

Dalton Russell s Semantic Techniques In The Film Inside Man
It began with his most elaborate plan to commit the perfect bank robbery. Dalton Russell (Clive
Owen) uses his cunning abilities to rob a bank, alongside his crew, by holding hostages and making
them all dress with similar apparel to mislead the police. As the police rush to the scene, a Detective
Keith Frazer (Denzel Washington) is put in charge of the case to negotiate with the robbers.
Throughout the film, Russell is always two steps ahead of the police. He manages to bug the police
and as a result, he is aware of everything they are planning. In one scene of the movie Detective
Frazer thinks he knows what kind of man Russell is and to disprove him Russell stages an execution
of a hostage. The bank owner, having found out of the occurrences happening at his bank, hires
Madeleine White (Jodie Foster) to protect the information, he kept in a secret safe deposit box, from
coming out by any means necessary. This is an essential part of the movie as the contents of the box

whereas Bonnie and Clyde are both murdered by the police as they attempt to flee. Bonnie and Clyde

An Analysis Of An Exemplary Perfume Commercial By Tommy...
An exemplary perfume advertisement is a commercial by Tommy Hilfiger featuring Gigi Hadid.
Tommy Hilfiger is a fashion chain featuring designer s classic sportswear and accessories (See

at American fashion model, Gigi Hadid, swinging from an anchor. Gigi is wearing a blue, frogged
blazer and black boots while effortlessly flipping her hair against the wind. The sailors are
mesmerized by her beauty and the music also conveys a sense of awe and mystery towards her. It

Tommy Hilfiger endorses Gigi Hadid, a fashion model, a Victoria Secret Angel, and even comes from
a well known family. Companies endorse celebrities by means of using their social status to gain a
wider viewing audience. Certainly, Gigi Hadid has many fans and followers through her rise of fame
in the past few years and marketers target this fame in effort to obtain more awareness. Lastly, an
element needed in making a persuasive advertisement is conveying a sense of pleasure and pursuit of
happiness. The viewers must want to buy the product to be just like the people in the advertisement.
They want to be cool and socially accepted in the world and gain popularity like the actors in the ad,
especially featuring celebrities. Gigi is surrounded by handsome men, trying to send a message that
buying the perfume will attract men and as well bring them popularity as a famous celebrity is also
wearing such product. Additionally, the clip of Gigi beating the man at an arm wrestling match can
also mean that wearing such perfume can bring them power. The commercial effectively adheres to all
three criteria of a successful perfume advertisement as it draws the targeted audience, has celebrity
endorsement and conveys a sense of pleasure and pursuit of a glamorous life. In addition to the tv
commercial with Gigi, another ideal perfume Youtube advertisement is the Chanel Gabrielle fragrance
with Kristen Stewart as the leading protagonist (See Appendix E). Chanel is a top

Unconventional Warfare
Reading Colonel Maxwell s article, I started to think of the United States (U.S.) Unconventional
Warfare (UW) history. If you look at our nation s history prior to the 1900s, I believe the policy
makers may have understood UW better, but more importantly, they did not have to deal with the
modern day constraints of employing UW today. The issue today is not do we understand UW, as
much as the employment of UW in the world we live in today. We live in the age of I have to have it
all now, and of the twenty four hour news cycle age. Employing UW with actual U.S. military

does not have a joint doctrine developed for UW, but I do not believe that has prevented us from
employing UW as a strategy to support U.S. interest. Even without a joint doctrine, the U.S. has had
and I feel still has the capability to employ UW. The real issue is policy and decisions makers in
Washington have no patience for UW to be successful as a real strategy. The other issue is policies can
change every four to eight years in our country. Do not get me wrong I like our democratic political
system, but I do not think the Taliban has to worry about pole numbers or a change in their
administration when it comes to making strategic level decisions. Even with a complete grasp of UW,
I believe UW would have a limited chance of a successful end state because of time along with the
modern day information age. An example, which he quoted, was Afghanistan after 9/11. It had
complete support of our policy makers and the public. The general understanding of a successful end
state was to have the Taliban removed. Success was quick, public opinion was high, and UW was the
flavor of the day, it was the quick fix in 2003. History tells us that all changed, then the presentation of
information changed followed by public opinion and the final change policy change. The biggest issue
for US policies makers is any employment of U.S. forces in a conventional or UW capacity has a time

Medical Advances
Besides the computer revolution, medical advances have caused tension between faith and reason. The
medical advances of the Twentieth Century have many beneficial effects for humanity. Diseases that
used to be dangerous or life threatening, like mumps, measles, and whooping cough, are no longer
worries in todays medical world. Tetanus, typhoid, and the bubonic plaque can now be treated with
antibiotics or other medicines. Vaccines, especially the polio vaccine, freed many people from the
effects of a disease. Advances in heart surgery and organ transplants have saved many lives.

technology deal with the preborn and postborn babies and prolonging life techniques. Prenatal
technology and obstetrics have allowed babies to be born as early as twenty two weeks after
conception. Life support systems have helped to prolong lives and have even supported people in
comas who have woken up after many years. However, these medical advances have been questioned
as to whether they really are advance. Many of these new medical techniques conflict with peoples
faith in medical ethics and with their religious beliefs, especially Catholicism. A debate about the
extent to which humans are allowed to play God to destroy, alter, or create life forms has risen. Most
of the new controversial medical procedures have become accepteed in this impersonal, technological

How Does Gogol Present The Other In The Night Before...
The other as a demonic soul or devil: a fascination that prevails in certain 19th century Russian
literature, specifically with the tales of Nikolai Gogol. However, Gogol experiments with distinct
devilish characters for each individual tale. In The Night Before Christmas, there is a physical
manifestation of a mediocre devil as well as sinful tendencies reflected within major characters and
the surrounding environment. The Portrait depicts the other as the spirit of a deceitful and

The other is a moneylender who commissioned the memorialization of his soul within a portrait.
Gogol describes him as a deceitful character that veers those that borrow his money into rotten
individuals, who drift from their core beliefs. His portrait simply stare[s] (343) into the souls of people
and shakes them; the portrait s artist even assigns the label of The devil, the very devil! (383) to it.
This devil contains the demonic characteristic to muddle into the lives of the good and transform them
into lives of sin. To illustrate, an artist, who purchases the portrait on a curious whim, with a good
natured disposition morphs after a period spent studying the gawking eyes. His divine purpose to

explains, Gold became his passion, his ideal, fear, delight, purpose (368). The divine natured artist
subjects himself to the sins of vanity, pride, and greed and begins to destroy the very thing he
previously devoted his life to creating. Gogol s devil in this tale takes on the demonic characteristics
of corruption and deceit to emit a cautionary tale against the dangers of greed when it comes to
money. The devil s corruption also exploits the sins of the portrait s artist. Little did he know that he
painted the devil through the holiest of methods: art. This tale, in conjunction with being a

On Death And Dying Analysis
George Patton Jr once said that, It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should
thank God that such men lived. Mr.Patton realized that death is natural and inevitable, so he gives
thanks to God for the life that he, his friends and family have been dealt. At funerals, usually several
individuals are pain stricken and severely upset. These individuals have been conditioned to fear death
and to believe that death is something to run away from. Elizabeth Kubler Ross speaks about actually
tuning into the patients in order to figure out what their needs are. Mrs. Kubler Ross, in her novel, On
Death Dying uses a five step blueprint in order to describe the dying process effectively.
When my Pawpaw was in his late 60 s he started his journey to the end of his life. Unlike several
people, he never seemed to cling to false hope in order to comfort himself during his final transition.
During the denial stage, he was sent to multiple heart doctors. Each doctor gave him an estimate on

field would be tremendous in the attempt of allowing individuals to die with their dignity while also
remaining in peace throughout the majority of the process. In reality a funeral should not consist of
mourning over what is lost. A funeral should be a celebration of the life the individual was blessed

Female Oppression in Jane Eyre Essay
Throughout Jane Eyre Charlotte Brontë uses the character Jane as a tool to comment on the oppression
that women were forced to endure at the time. Jane can be seen as representative of the women who
suffered from repression during the Victorian period, a time when patriarchy was commonplace.
Brontë herself was affected by the time period, because according to Wolfe, she was deprived
experience and intercourse and travel. (70) Thus Jane offers a unique perspective as a woman who is
both keenly aware of her position and yet trapped by it despite repeated attempts to elevate herself and

one another. This divergence is represented by her struggle to leave Thornfield, and when making that
choice we see a distinct conflict between her conscious and passion. She refers to her conscience as a
tyrant taunting passion and threatening it with agony. (335) Moreover, Jane also says that it has an arm

Low Voter Voting
PART III: CHAPTER 1 QUESTIONS
Question 1. Even in a presidential election, only about half of the eligible adults exercise their right to
vote. What are the consequences of a low voter turnout? Does low turnout have any possible benefits?
In my opinion, I believe everyone that is eligible to vote should vote. This amazing opportunity to go
out and have an impact on policies that affect our lives should not be taken lightly. For a long period
of time through American history neither women nor African Americans were permitted to vote, and
they fought for that opportunity to participate. I do not understand why anyone would throw out that
chance to make a difference for a change they want to see, because nothing will get done by sitting
down and waiting for someone else to fix the problem. As stated in our text Voter turnout has
remained well below that of other advanced democracies (Losco 2). In my personal belief, having half
of eligible voters show up to vote is unacceptable, because it may result in major lifelong
ramifications. I believe the lack of participation in voting, is resulting in people becoming elected, and
laws getting past that most people are not aware of. I would have to strongly agree with the Greek
philosopher Aristotle who felt that citizens should not simply sit back and enjoy the benefits of
society; they must also take responsibility for its operation. (Losco 6). What is a little troubling is that
it appears that older population becomes more

The Humanity of Achilles Essay
As George Eliot once said, It is a narrow mind which cannot look at a subject from various points of
view. Whether viewing a piece of artwork or another person, there are often many points of view to
evaluate in order to find the true core of the subject. In great works of literature, authors often create
complex and dynamic characters to add depth and meaning into the story. In the Iliad, Homer
beautifully depicts the multifaceted character of Achilles as an epic hero. As readers look closely at
Achilles, he reveals different sides of himself as the epic poem develops. Representing the struggle
between his dominant, selfish, and Dionysian nature as an epic hero and his hidden empathetic
Apollonian core, Achilles reveals the mythos of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The taking of Bryseis angered Achilles because she represented his success as a leader. Achilles also
consistently shows another Dionysian trait throughout the Iliad: the seeking of revenge. In the Iliad
Patroclus, a trusted friend of Achilles goes to fight against Hector while Achilles is away from the war.
Ultimately, Patroclus is murdered by Hector on the battlefield and Achilles greatly mourns him
(Homer 16.77 867). Achilles was deeply saddened by the death of his beloved comrade and grief took
hold of [him] (Hamilton 197). Representing Sigmund Freud s principle of homo lomini lupus or man
is a wolf to man, Achilles wants to avenge his friend s life by murdering the one who murdered him.
Mankind has the tendency to do unto others as others have done unto them. Hector killed Patroclus
but Achilles is blind to his motives as to why. He doesn t see that Hector killed Patroclus in self
defense during a battle but he only views Hector as a murderer. The blindness with which Achilles
acts shows an immense force working in Achilles. According to Simone Weil force is that x that turns
anybody who is subjected to it into a thing (Benfey,82). In this case the force that acts on Achilles is
the degrading force of anger due to war. The war has stripped Achilles of his humanity and ability to
act rationally. If Achilles continues to behave primarily in a Dionysian way, he will become the cause
of his own ultimate detriment.

In John Steinbeck s book, Of Mice and Men , the Great American Dream has a different meaning to everyone as it depends on the person who is dreaming of a life goal. Some ways The Dream is described in Steinbeck s book is owning a small portion of the United States, or becoming an actress, or even just equality between humans. However, for some people, that is just too much to ask. In Robert Burns poem To a Mouse , he writes The best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry . After Sonny figured that out, they could continue on and pursue their dreams of going to college, winning the science fair, and even doing something in their lives other than coal mining. The principal sent Sonny to the National Science Fair in Indianapolis, Indiana. All the hard work and dedication the boys put into rocket building had finally been paid off. • 5. The Political Reform Of A Democracy Essay The basis of a democracy goes back as far as 507 B.C. It was introduced by Ancient Athens first leader Cleisthenes. His primary mean was to ensure equality among his people; however, Cleisthenes equality declaration only spread so far and accomplished so much. Only forty thousand men over the age of eighteen were allowed to be part of Athens political affairs. This Athenian democracy was separated into three parts: the ekklesia a sovereign governing body that wrote laws and dictated foreign policy; the boule a council of representatives from the ten Athenian tribes; and the dikasteria the popular courts in which citizens argued cases before a group of lottery selected jurors. Cleisthenes democracy only survived for two centuries. However, his political reform of a democracy is one of Ancient Greece s best contributions to the entire world. Democracy is defined as a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people, and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system. It is primarily focused on the equality among people, and those same people are able to control who holds the power in their economy. We, the United States, run as a democracy. Though, the electoral votes are those that are only accounted for in the election, our vote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Essay On Obesity Epidemic More than one third or 78.6 million of U.S. adults are obese , according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Obesity does not only mean a bigger waist line, but also a greater chance at developing life threating health problems. Preventable diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer are increased in individuals who are considered obese (CDC). While physical activity plays an important role in a healthy lifestyle, what one consumes is also a significant factor. With obesity at staggering high rates, healthy food choices should be made more available and affordable, while the price of unhealthy food and drinks should be increased to help bring a decline to this ongoing epidemic. To understand the full extent of the obesity epidemic, one must first understand what the term obese indicates. A person whose BMI, or body mass index, ranges above 30 is considered obese. The healthy BMI range for a normal person is between 19 and 24 (CDC). When an individual consumes more energy, or calories, than they use, the excess calories are stored in the body as fat and thus causes weight gain. Born on May 18, 1920 in Wadowice, Poland; John Paul II suffered a number of tragedies in the early years of his life. By the age of the twenty he lost all of his immediate family, and he credits the death of his father as the point in his life when he heard the call to live a life of religious vocation. Pope John Paul also played an important role in the fall of communism in his native Poland. For this His Holiness also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. John Paul did the same countries such as: Paraguay, Haiti and Chile which were under dictators at the time. • 15. Trachea Research Paper Air from the environment enters through the nasal cavities that are lined with a ciliated mucus membrane that helps warm, filter, and moisten the air. The air then goes to the pharynx (where oral and nasal cavity meet) and then down the main airway in the respiratory system or the trachea. The trachea is made up of tough cartilage rings that keep the passageway open and are also lined with ciliated mucus membrane that helps remove microscopic particles and bring them back to the pharynx. The trachea contains the larynx or the voice box that vibrates when air passes over it and the epiglottis that covers the trachea when you swallow in order to prevent choking. The trachea then branches off into two bronchi that go to the lungs. The bronchi then extend to smaller passageways called bronchioles located in the lungs that no longer have cartilage rings. These controversies extend from his early career in fur trading to his leadership of Minnesota s militia in the Great Sioux Uprising of 1862. Sibley also feared the much larger Indian population that his army had to face. Sibley intended to be a thorough and careful commander. What are the consequences of a low voter turnout? Does low turnout have any possible benefits? In my opinion, I believe everyone that is eligible to vote should vote. This amazing opportunity to go out and have an impact on policies that affect our lives should not be taken lightly. For a long period of time through American history neither women nor African Americans were permitted to vote, and they fought for that opportunity to participate. Ultimately, Patroclus is murdered by Hector on the battlefield and Achilles greatly mourns him (Homer 16.77 867). Achilles was deeply saddened by the death of his beloved comrade and grief took hold of [him] (Hamilton 197). Causes Of Death In The Death Of Romeo And Juliet Frequently labelled as one of the greatest and most tragic, love stories of all time, Romeo and Juliet features two youths from dueling families whose abrupt, yet robust, love ultimately resulted in their deaths. However, it was not just their whirlwind romance that led to their demise, but also the actions of many characters who had tried to aid the two lovers. One such character is the Nurse, who acted as a messenger to arrange Romeo and Juliet s wedding. Despite the Nurse s interference, which helped fester Romeo and Juliet infatuation for each other, which eventually led them to killing themselves; Friar Lawrence bears the most responsibility for Romeo and Juliet s death because he was the one who married them in the first place, sent ... (Shakespeare 5.2.17 20) Demonstrating how the friar failed to complete the one action that may have saved both Romeo and Juliet s lives, these lines further prove his guilt as it portrays him complaining to the inefficient messenger, Friar John, about his negligence. The following lines further cement his guilt as it states that he had not one but two chances to deliver the letter to Romeo, and yet again disappointed: But I will write again to Mantua, (Shakespeare 5.2. 27). As briefly explained above, Friar Lawrence was the one who produced and mobilized the plan which directly led to Romeo and Juliet s suicide. Once Juliet heard the news of the engagement she fled to the friar s cell, and once again, he informed her of the rapidly formed plan as follows: Hold, daughter. Westmont has large selection of majors totaling up to forty five. They have a pre nursing program and a pre veterinary program, which I am interested in. I really like that Westmont has so many choices to get a degree in. The college is extremely small with 1,346 students, 337 of which are freshman. Since the school is so small the student to teacher ratio is 11:1. I really enjoy this statistic, since I find most my help comes from conversing with my teachers to learn about the subject more deeply. Having more one on one time with the professors means any terms that you do not understand you can go over them with your professor privately to get a better understanding! The small college does not lack in sports. They have twelve league sports and eleven club sports. Though they do not have intramural sports they make up for it in their abundant choices of ...
