The Concept and History of Cryptography
Jpz777 05/15/2013 Order # A2096310 From the codes messages passed furtively throughout the
courts of medieval Europe, to the infamous Enigma cipher machine which protected Nazi secrets in
World War II, the concept of cryptography is nearly as old as the written word itself. Today, the
field of information technology has developed to the point that even the most sophisticated
encryption methods are vulnerable, and for those working as information security officers,
shielding a company s invaluable data through the use of encryption has become an essential skill.
Modern encryption methods rely on much of the same techniques used throughout history, with
human readable plaintext being transformed into an unreadable format known as ciphertext upon
transmission between two parties, in effort to prevent nefarious third party intrusions. Within the
sub field of cryptanalysis a growing focus on mathematical theory has spawned the development of
intricately constructed algorithms, or governing systems used to precisely define a sequence of
operations (Layton, 2007). Modern cryptographic algorithms are capable of creating
computationally secured systems that, while they can be theoretically deciphered, are ostensibly
secure from any feasible attack strategy. The most widely applied cryptographic algorithms
employed by information security officers today typically fall under one of two categories:
Symmetric key cryptography and Public key cryptography (Peltier, Peltier Blackley,

Pennies Lab Report
Pennies made before 1982 and the pennies that were made after them create a significant
difference. Pennies made before 1982 are made of copper (Warnick 1). Due to the change of the
of the metals over the time period it must of caused a change in the pennies mass. Therefore, the
density of pennies created before 1982 and the pennies produced today have different densities.
Density can also be used to identify unknown substances Density is defined as the ratio of mass to
volume (Lab: A PennyFor Your Thoughts). The density of a matter is equal to the mass divided
into the volume. The mass of a matter or object can be found by using a scale. Furthermore, the
volume can be found using the method of water displacement. The purpose of finding... Show more

For example, how to physically find the density of an object by finding their mass with a balance
and finding the object s volume using the method water displacement. The purpose of the
experiment was to find out which metal is used to create post 1982 pennies. Pre 1982 pennies
were made out of copper but then the metal used for making pennies changed. The metal used to
create pre 1982 pennies was copper. Since the metal used to make pennies changed the density of
post 1982 changed. The predicted density was believed to have something close to the metal
zinc. Which will show that the post 1982 pennies are made out of zinc. During the experiment,
the mass of the post 1982 pennies were found using an electric balance and the volume was found
by water displacement. The pennies mass and volumes were recorded. After the recordings of five
trials the densities was found of those each trials. After conducting the experiment by trying to find
the density of the post 1982 pennies. The average density found after doing the experiment was
7.042 g/mL. The density of zinc is 7.13 g/mL. However, errors may have occurred tampering the
density that was discovered. For example, reading the water measurement slightly wrong when

The Characteristics Of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Martin Luther King, Jr
I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people Maya
Angelou. An epic hero is someone who motivates the people around them, goes above and
beyond a normal person, and makes the world a better place in someway or form. They have all the
qualities a society would look for. Most epic heroes are fictional, but MLK was someone who was
extremely inspirational and considered a real life hero. He was well known hero for his civil rights
movement and being a start to end racism. Martin Luther King, Jr embodies the characteristics of
an epic hero because he is capable of deeds of great strength and courage, fights like a great
warrior, and has earned a great reputation around the world.
Being capable of deeds of great strength and courage means the hero has potential, and goes
above and beyond what a commoner does. Martin Luther King, Jr accomplished these traits
making him a great epic hero. Martin Luther, Jr s article from biography.com states some major
key facts from his life. The article displays MLK as a person who goes above and beyond a
normal person and that he did whatever he could do without giving up: Through his activism and
inspirational speeches he played a pivotal role in ending the legal segregation of African American
citizens in the United States, as well as the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting
Rights Act of 1965. King received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, among several

The Financial Crisis Of 2007 And 2009
Prior to the crisis in 1907, individual banks such as JP Morgan and the reserve banks of New
York were considered full service financial institutions. In the year 1913, the Federal Reserve
System was created by congress to help stabilize the financial market by acting as the lender of last
resort to the banking institutions (federalreserve.gov). Nonetheless the great depression still hit the
economy between 1929 and 1933 which led to the stock marketcrash and market share value
decrease by 80% (history.com). By the 1980s, the economy had stabilized again and there was
increase in computer analysis, electronic information transfer, increased importance of global
markets and deregulation of financial institutions.
The financial crisis of 2007 and 2009 was the worst since the great depression. It was not a single
event but a series of crises whose seeds had been planted in yet another recession of 2001 and the
era of the internet bubble years earlier (Bodie, Kane, Marcus, 2011). One of the reasons for the
crisis was the rise in subprime lending. Subprime loans were offered to individuals who did not
qualify for prime rate loans and carried a higher rate of interest than prime loans (Gilbert, 2011).
Another reason behind the subprime mortgage crisis is argued to have been due to the lack of ethics
and poor policies such as the Goldman rule which encouraged pursuit of profitable opportunities
irrespective of the effects on others (Watkins, 2011).
The crises impacted the

Dr Sapolsky Baboon
1. Dr. Sapolsky s research in the Masai Mara National Park of Kenya involved collecting blood
samples from baboons to measure hormones involved in the stress response. After anaesthetizing
the baboon in an unassuming way (to avoid hormones produced from anticipatory stress) he
collected blood samples from their bodies. What he observed was adrenaline and glucocorticoids
dictate the stress response. The physiological changes to the body during the stress response are the
lungs work overtime to deliver oxygen to the bloodstream, and the heart races to pump oxygen
throughout the body so muscles respond instantly. The blood pressure needs to go up to deliver
energy. The body will turn off anything that is not essential at that moment. Examples... Show more

b) The Dutch Hunger Winter is an example of how stress damages us before we are aware of its
presence. Tessa Roseboom concluded our bodies respond to famine in the same way they
respond to other stressors, so she endeavored to research if the fetuses of the women pregnant
during the famine could be affected by stress. She identified over 2400 people who could have
been impacted. Her research revealed the stresses they underwent as fetuses still impacted them
60 years later. Babies conceived during the famine have increased risk of cardiovascular disease,
higher hypercholesterolemia, are generally more responsive to stress and are in poorer health
than people born before the famine or conceived after it. Stress hormones in the mother s blood
triggered a change in the fetus nervous system as it struggled to survive. This was the fetus first
experience with stress, and 60 years later their bodies remembered the trauma. Her discoveries
shed light on how it is not just fat cells that build up in response to stress; brain chemistry, the
capacity and ability to adapt to stress, and how prone one is to psychiatric disorders are all things
affected by our earliest interactions with

Diary Of Anne Frank Relationship Essay
The Diary of Anne Frank Relationship Essay
The relationships in The Diary of Anne Frank between the characters has a prodigious change
over time in the years of this story. I will be rating how the characters change in scales of
selfishness, attitude, or connection. You really won t understand if you ve only done a first read.
Here s just a little boost of the idea of the story s relationship in a bunched essay.
The Van Daan relationship severely increases with selfishness, attitude, with not much connection
as shown. You may find that in the story at one point, Mr. Van Daan wanted to sell Mrs. Van Daans
coat for the money. You may think that he would wantthe money for food and water, but that s not
the case. Mr. Van Daan wanted to sell Mrs. Van Daan s coat for cigarettes, hence the selfishness.
Mrs. Van Daan also sulks and is upset that her husband is selling her coat, so Mr. Van Daan doesn t
care about her coat, except getting money for it. In paragraph 75, page 161, a part of the selling of
the fur coat, Mr. Van Daan literally says So if you please to sell it for us? It should fetch a good
price. And by the way, will you give me cigarettes. I don t care what... Show more content on

In the secret annex, there wasn t any relationship choices, so Anne would definitely go with

happened. For a second Anne stands looking up at Peter, longing for him to kiss her. As he
makes no move she turns away. Then suddenly Peter grabs her awkwardly in the arms, kissing her
on the cheek. Anne and Peter s relationship of connections are shown, because they kissed, it was
hinted later in the story by the Van Daan s, they didn t have anyone else specifically at that age, the

Examples Of Ambition In Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar Essay
In the book Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, the darker sides of human nature are exposed
such as jealousy, deceitfulness, desire for revenge, and ambition or arrogance. The most important
themes that are shown throughout this book are revenge, jealousy, and ambition. Revenge is
evident from Mark Antony while he tries to avenge his friend Julius Caesar. All the violence
represents his revenge as he gets an army to defeat the conspirators. Jealousy is evident from a
variety of characters in the book as they are jealous of Julius Caesar s power. Also, ambition is
clearly identified in the story because of the acts of Julius Caesar and Cassius. Revenge, jealousy,
and ambition all play big impacts in this story.
Revenge is a very important trait in Julius Caesar. The character in the book that best represents this
trait is Mark Antony. Antony acts to avenge the death of his good friend, Julius Caesar. Antony...

everyone telling Caesar to not go to the Capulet, he still does not listen. Many have told him bad
things will happen to him and even with all the things that have been said to him but he still

To Kill A Mockingbird Quote Analysis
A variety of lessons are taught to Scout and the reader in this award winning novel. To Kill a
Mockingbird by Harper Lee is about a young girl named Jean Louise Finch, or more commonly
known as Scout, growing up in 1930s Alabama, USA, with her father, Atticus, and brother, Jem.
As she faces challenges, she is given guidance by many people around her. Her and the reader are
taught how to communicate properly with people, how respect is given and gotten, and finally,
equality among everyone. The majority of these lessons (ignoring the misleading ones) are
valuable and should be remembered by everyone, age aside. They can help us grow as a person
and become more understanding and aware of people . Firstly, Scout and the reader are taught how

Scout and the reader grasp that you should always try to help a friend in need since they might
need all the help they can get. Secondly, Jem Finch, Scout s brother, teaches a lesson about how
to handle her family. Scout wants to invite Walter Cunningham over, but her Aunt Alexandra calls
him trash and refuses to let Scout have him over. Scout asks if the answer would be different if
he was related, but Alexandra says the answer would still be no. Jem then speaks up, ...you can

Seiketsu means standardize and Shitsuke means sustain. Sort: This is the first step of the 5S and it
explains that materials, equipment that are rarely used in the production process should be cleared

Sustain: Visual control boards such as posters, message boards, signs and audits are needed to
ensure discipline in the employees so as to maintain the consistency of the 5S. Heijunka (level):
This is another means of eliminating deadly waste in the organization, leveling in an
organization is needed to maintain stability because of the changes in the demand of the
customers. Heijunka is needed in order to make standardization or just in time possible.
Leveling can be achieved by looking at the average demand levels and understanding the takt
time. Also, understanding the variations in demand and manufacturing products according to
average demands leads to heijunka. The importance of heijunka is that reduces the waste of
inventory and overproduction. It also reduces the waste of waiting because it allows workers to
know what to do at the right time. Plan, Do, Act, Check is another technique for problem
solving: This cycle was developed by Edward deeming it main aim was to study a problem and
plan a solution. The way this cycle can be used to eliminate waste in Toyota is to first develop an
Action Plan: Developing an action plan enables Toyota to identify the root cause of the problem.
The root cause of the problem give details of what, who, when, where, why and how. The answers
to this details gives way to forming two kinds of solutions which are the short term countermeasures
and the long term countermeasures. Do: This is stage at which the short term

Dennis Kozlowski s Leadership In Crisis
Tyco international is a corporation that was founded in 1960 Arthur J. Rosenberg. It began as an
investment and holding company that eventually expanded into Healthcare, Electrical and
Electronics, Specialty Products and Fire and Security Services. Tyco became a solid publically
traded company under its founder and leader Arthur J Rosenberg. Under his leadership, Tyco not
just expanded but grew that between 1973 and 1982 the company went from $34 million to 500
million in consolidated sales. (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2011). The story of a leadership in crisis
reflects on the governance and unethical misconduct of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dennis
Kozlowski. Dennis Kozlowski entered the corporation in 1975 and at the time was under the
leadership of Joseph Gaziano. Dennis was mentored by Gaziano and was quite impressed by the
lavish, opulent and affluent lifestyle. In 1982 Gaziano passed away and John F. Fort III became
CEO. His leadership style was that of one that was quite frugal in his spending. This was a change
within the culture of Tyco as it moved in a new direction and Kozlowski had to adapt to the
changes. Fort Leadership and Managementstyle was to cut back on what he saw as wasteful
spending. He opposed the extravagance of that of his predecessor and directed the company focus
more towards making a profit for investors and shareholders. Kozlowski adapted to the changes
made by Fort and also supported the vision and new direction the

Lauren Smith Case
Ethics should form an integral part of every organization. Most companies have a manual that lays
down guidelines regarding ethical practices in their organization. People associated with the
company should abide by these guidelines.
In the given case, Lauren Smith was appointed as assistant account manager in the government
contracts division of a large architecture and engineering firm. The clients of the firm were
primarily federal and state governmental agencies. The firm had applied for an enormous project to
design a new military hospital complex. Furthermore, if the contract was awarded to the firm, each
member of the project would be suitably compensated.
The leader of the project, Brian Jenkins is in constant touch with George Miller, who the former
head of the division awarding the Hospital contract. Miller usually passes on confidential inside
information to Brian in exchange for a bonus. Lauren Smith became aware of this practice when
Brian took her to lunch with him. The manual of the company clearly states that this practice was
unethical as it would constitute insider trading.
After going through the manual, Lauren discussed the matter with fellow team members. One of

The Definition of Liberty
In New York there is a 250 ton green statue dressed in a robe, holding a torch and tablet with
broken chains at the feet. In 1886, the statue was given to the United States as a gift to symbolize
liberty. The statue is the Statue of Liberty. She is dressed in a robe to symbolize the Roman
goddess of freedom, Libertas. She holds a torch and a tablet to symbolize evoking the law. Many
individuals visit the Statue of Liberty, hoping to understand what liberty means. Liberty has many
interpretations and it is not confined to one meaning. To truly understand the meaning of liberty, an
individual must understand the different types of liberties that are available to Americans. Visiting
the Statue of Liberty will not fully define the concept of what liberty truly means; an individual
must understand the definition, the characteristics, the types, and what liberty is not. First, an
individual needs to understand the definition of liberty. Liberty is derived from the Latin word
Liber, which means free. Liberty means an individual is able to to live in a society that is free of
oppressive restrictions on how to live ones life, behave, or ones political views. An individual
commonly expresses liberty as: freedom, independence, autonomy, emancipation, and liberation.
Next an individual must understand the characteristics of liberty. There are two characteristics of
liberty, negative liberties and positive liberties. Negative liberties are liberties that do not have

Consumerism Is Justified By Kant, Singer, And Aristotle
Today s consumerism can be ethically justified using Kant, Singer, and Aristotle; however, people
still should donate money to charity. Utilitarian s, like Signer, believe that people should do
everything they can to maximized the happiness of all people. To them, buying everything in sight
is ethically wrong because the money could be better spent on helping others. Using Kant and
Aristotle, it can be shown that buying lots of items, like in today s society, can be ethically
justified. When Aristotle discusses his views of ethicsin Virtue Ethics , he shows that having just
the right about of something is virtuous. For example, there is virtue in being brave, but if one is
too brave it is a vise. Just as being too cowardly is also a vise. The virtue of bravery lies
somewhere in the middle of cowardice and brashness. The same can be said of today s

Echo And Narcissus Analysis
Comparing Tragedies: Echo vs. Narcissus
Ovid displays an impressive grasp of language in his poem Narcissus and Echo which allows him
to address many classic themes, the chief of these being the theme of unfulfilled love and the
suffering it brings. The most notable instances of this type of suffering are Echo and Narcissus
transformations; Echo withers away until she is naught but a voice, and Narcissus is trapped in
place until he eventually transforms into a flower. Upon finishing this tale, the reader is left with
much to consider, including the question: which fate is worse? Of course, both fates are certainly
cruel, but they given the specific themes and diction that Ovid uses when describing each pseudo
death, Echo s punishment seems far less dehumanizing than Narcisssus ; whereas Narcissus is
completely objectified by his transformation into a beautiful flower, Echo at least maintains the
power of voice.
Given Ovid s diction during Echo s introduction, it is clear that her fate is directly tied to the
power of speech and voice. Ovid calls her resounding Echo as if this is her title, and the use of
the word resounding is very important (line 26). Why not call her loud or huge or any of the
other synonyms tied to the word resounding ? One can only assume that Ovid wanted to make
use of the word s other definition: resonant and reverberant. By essentially introducing her as
Reverberant Echo and mentioning that her speech was strange , Ovid immediately alerts the
reader to what is both Echo s downfall and her saving grace: Words have power. Echo over uses
words in her favor when she d talk and talk,/ to give her sister nymphs just enough/ time to slip
away before they were found out, by Juno (lines 38 40), and eventually, her speech turns on her
when she is able to do little more than repeat Narcissus words back to him despite how much she
wishes to sing his praises. In the end, however, Echo s final punishment is to become no more than
a voice, no more than a literal echo. Surely, this fate is cruel, but perhaps it is not completely
unforgiving; though it is very little consolation, Echo at least maintains the power of voice, and
however diluted this power might be, Ovid writes,

Mary Cassatt s Influence On Mary Cassat
Mary Cassatt was born in 1844 to a wealthy family with six other siblings. During her life span
she learned from any famous artist, and was a phenomenal painter herself. She went through some
hard situation and historical events. Each of these instances led her to paint about women and
their children such as the painting Maternite which is a painting of a woman nursing her child this
was a typical painting for Mary Cassatt. Mary was also big on representing women s suffrage
which took place before, during, and after the Gilded Age.
Mary was born in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania. Her father was Robert Cassat, he was a
stockbroker and land Speculator, a very successful one at that. Her mother, Katherine Kelso

Other things that had an influence on her was the Civil War, the women s suffrage movement,
the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and Ecole des Beaux Art school in Paris. Her father
did not want her to be a professional painter, he wanted her to be more or less a housewife. I
believe this was one of the major regions she felt tied to the women s suffrage movement. She
wanted to do and be who she wanted without being discriminated by men such as her father. One
painting that represents this belief is The Mandolin Player, It depicts the portrait of a young girl
playing a Mandolin but I believe it has a deeper meaning almost as if it a picture of Mary Cassatt
at a young age just beginning to learn her passion and focusing solely on it. I believe she also
would have wanted equal opportunities for women. Each of her teacher such as Charles Chaplin
help to hone her painting skills, making her dream possible and also giving her a way to contribute

The seventeenth century brought thousands of immigrants to the New World in pursuit of freedom

colonies were created to profit off of gold but their warm climate and fertile land turn them into

Difference Between Divorce And Divorce
Legal Separation vs. Divorce
A legal separation is not a divorce. Many couples opt for a legal separation if they want to live
apart but do not want to completely end their marriage. The primary difference between a legal
separation and a divorce is that in a legal separation, you still remain married but in a divorce, the
marriage is terminated. Also, in case of a legal separation, the two parties remain legally married
and cannot remarry. But if they divorce, both partners are free to remarry once their divorce is
finalized.
Why Some Choose Legal Separation?
Choosing legal separation is a matter of personal choice or preference. There are some couples
who decide to go their separate ways because of religious beliefs or due to health insurance
concerns. There are others who separate because they are moving to a different county or state.
While these couples choose to live apart, they do not necessarily want to terminate their marriage at
that point in time.
How Does One Apply for Legal Separation?
If you live in Oceanside, California and are thinking of separating from your spouse, you will have
to:
File a petition for legal separation
Take decisions with your partner regarding child custody, child support, alimony, and property
division

There is another legal method through which a marriage can be terminated. It is called an
annulment. An annulment is a decree that clearly states that the marriage was never valid. If
you go for an annulment, it will be as if there had never been a marriage at all. However,
everybody doesn t qualify for an annulment. You need a valid reason to claim that the marriage is
void. For example, if the consent to marriage was obtained either through fraud or coercion or if
the marriage occurred solely to obtain a green card or citizenship or if there was some form of
misrepresentation, these could be grounds for an

Essay on Ford value enhacement plan
Ford Value Enhancement Plan (VEP)
In April 2000, Ford Motor Co. announced a shareholder Value Enhancement Plan (VEP) to
significantly recapitalize the firm s ownership structure. Ford had accumulated $23 billion in cash
reserves and under the VEP would return as much as $10 billion of this cash to shareholders. In
exchange for each share currently held, the plan would give stockholders one new share plus the
choice of receiving $20 in either cash or additional new Ford common shares. Shareholders electing
to receive cash would be taxed on these distributions at capital gain rates. Among other things, the
plan provided a means for the Ford family to obtain liquidity without having to dilute their 40%

Exchanging existing share for New Shares on a One for One basis. The VEP includes three options
for different kinds of Shareholders:
Option 1: Shareholders who prefer Cash.
Option 2: Shareholders who prefer More Shares
Option 3: Passive Investors
Value Enhancement Plan has tax consequences. Those shareholders electing to receive the new
shares of Ford instead of the 20 buck bonus will not be directly affected by the tax. The new
shares are considered a tax free exchange, with the holding period of the new shares considered the
same as when the original Ford stock was purchased. Shareholders choosing to re invest in stocks
can be incentivized by having more voting power and control over the management.
Those shareholders choosing to collect the $20 cash per share will have to pay capital gains tax
on the cash distribution just as though they have sold part of their shares. This can be either
considered a short term or long term capital gain, depending on when your original Ford shares
were purchased. Benefit out of opportunity Cost for the shareholders to invest the $20 in a different

Class B shares.
Since firms incur the re purchase option by offering $20 cash for each stock bought back, the
number of outstanding shares will be reduced. The Earnings per share will increase leading to an
increased stock price.

Suburban Policing Techniques
Community policing techniques may vary from suburban communities and inner cities because of
the demographics of the regions. Community policing in suburban communities can certainly
contribute to a greater decrease in crime because of the close quarters police officers have with the
members of the community. Community policing is designed as a proactive approach in reducing
crimein the community. A collaborative relationship between law enforcementand individuals only
strengthens the trust with the police. Indeed this relationship is embedded in suburban areas because
policer officers are constantly personalizing their response calls. In addition, Law enforcement
agencies in suburban community may rely on more financial base resources in contributing to the
infrastructure of neighborhoods. For example, policies are implemented in renovating after school

crime before it occurs. So in fact, there is a larger representation of police officers patrolling the
streets of areas of high crime rates. The elements of crime in inner cities are far more likely to
occur than in suburban communities. As recently stated, police officers in inner cities encounter a
large population to govern, in fact they deal with various ethnic groups. In this case, police
departments in inner cities typically adopt police officers of similar ethnic backgrounds. This is
important because this allows the police officers to communicate with the people in neighborhoods

Justice In Plato s Apology
Plato s Apology, is the Greek philosopher Plato s account of the trial of Socrates. In the Apology,
Socrates is confronted with the charges of corrupting the youth of Athens, and of not believing in
the Greek gods. The charges were presented by a jury of five hundred Athenians. Throughout the
trial, Socratespresents a series of arguments to the jury, proclaiming his innocence. Chiefly among
Socrates arguments is the argument of justice versus injustice. At many points throughout the
account, Socrates declares the charges against him as unjust, in his understanding of the term
justice . He begs the question of how a court of law could unjustly accuse him of these crimes.

Through this brief examination, we will attempt to gain a better understanding of Socrates views
of justice, how they relate to his apparent disbelief in the ability to realize justice through public
office, and how Socrates views on justice and public office are relevant in the modern world.
To understand Socrates ideas of justice, one must read further into the works of Plato. Socrates
acknowledges the vast and broad idea of justice, and attempts to answer the question of what is
justice? through debate. In the Republic, Plato writes about Socrates, and of a meeting between
him and many other Greek men. Socrates and his fellow Greeks discuss these ideas of justice
between them. The Greek Polemarchus makes reference to another man, a poet named Simonides,
who believed the justice is, to give to each what is owed to him.
Socrates further extends this definition in common Socratic fashion, by attempting to over throw
the argument with logic. Through further discussion, Socrates and Polemarchus extend the idea of
justice as giving to your friends and taking from your enemies. Although this definition does not

The Use Of Sexual Gratification On College Campuses
Hookups are a type of brief sexual relationship that typically occur on only one occasion between
two people who are usually strangers or have briefly become acquainted (Paul, McManus Hayes,
2000). Hooking up may be considered to be the contemporary term for the older phrase one night
stand which also implies a no strings attached interlude. In this sort of association, sexual
gratification can be the primary goal, with companionship being a distant consideration. This
variety of alliance can certainly involve both heterosexual and homosexual couples and can be
facilitated through friends or like minded individuals. According to one study, this casual and non
committal sexual encounter based form of interaction now finds itself as the predominating
heterosexual relationship on college campuses (Stinson, 2010). It may be easy to see why this is
the case as the lifestyles of students are busy ones and often little time is available to devote to
what is necessary to maintain a more serious involvement. Friends with Benefits Friends with
benefits relationships are generally considered to be a relationship that occurs between friends of
the opposite sex who participate in sexual practices but view their bond as being non romantic
(Hughes, Morrison, Asada, 2007). However, there is no reason to believe that this type of strictly
platonic relationship cannot have its equivalent parallel with members of the same sex. There are
advantages to this type of arrangement that are

Perhaps it was out of an unmet desire for his absent mother, or because he had been secluded, from

Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity
As the power industry expands and improves the technological functionality, control, and
monitoring components used in generation, transmission, and distribution, the vulnerabilities of the
power grid to cybersecurity attacks greatly increase. Not all cybersecurity attacks are preventable,
but the current securityregulation and compliance requirements set by the North American Electric
Reliability Corporation (NERC) are not adequate to prevent even the most common types of
attacks. When attacks occur, they can lead to lengthy system blackouts where the impact may range
from minor inconvenience to possible public harm in a variety of ways including loss of access to

The core of this framework has five basic functions as it relates to cybersecurity: identify, protect,
detect, respond, and recover (Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity). With
regard to required compliance versus voluntary security, compliance with regulations does not
ensure security. The BES consists of both generation and transmission assets and devices, but does
not include system distribution. There are also potential risks associated with the technologies and
operations of the distribution system though, so the distribution system must be included in the
cybersecurity discussion. One such distribution security risk involves the increasing popularity of
smart meters and the fact that there are no cybersecurity regulations associated with them. Of all the
BES components, cyberattacks on transmission assets and devices pose the greatest risk to public
safety due to a greater potential impact than attacks on other types of BES components. For

Positive illusions are unrealistic, biased attitudes that individuals have about themselves and

Question 2
Approximately 117 Americans die every day to suicide and for every suicide there is 25 other
unsuccessful attempts (Suicide Statistics, 2016). The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
says that suicide is the 10th leading cause of deaths in the USA and that 42773 American dies
every year. Research shows that suicide happens to any race, gender or age.
The belief is that people who talk about suicided aren t really going to go through with it; this
belief is completely false. Often suicidal people make subtle hints leading up to the event. Some
subtle hints include: I know where my dad s gun is if I ever need it, I have the perfect plan to
end it all, I wonder what that chemical taste like or, I wonder what it feels like to bleed out and
leave forever. Others often discuss their depression and how there isn t anything to live for.
Another false belief is suicide cannot be prevented. If an individual gets help early enough for the

worthless and inadequate.

Just as many people across the country are looking to tiny homes as an affordable housing option,
there are also many communities that are looking to tiny house villages as a method of providing
affordable living options for the homeless in their cities. These small villages of tiny homes, usually
built by volunteers, answer many of the housing issues faced by cities with little affordable housing
options and overwhelming homeless populations. These tiny house villages, however, are often
plagued with challenges such as conflicting city ordinances, building codes, and zoning plans. Tiny
Houses for the Homeless: An Affordable Solution Catches On by Ericka Lundahl, published in Yes!
Magazine, February 2014 looks at the costs, solutions, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

First, in these cases land for the villages, labor for construction, and many of the materials to build
were donated and volunteered. Second, the long term cost of operation and maintenance of the
villages is not addressed. While neither of these issues are unsurmountable obstacles, they need to
be considered by communities proposing tiny house villages as long term solutions to homelessness.
Solving a Community Issue
Cost of Homelessness
As Lundahl points out, the cost of homelessness to communities can be quite substantial. The
scope of the problem affects communities from the local neighborhood and city levels all the way
up to state and federal levels. While her article points out that Denver, CO estimates that each
homeless person costs over $15,000 per year, the United States Interagency Council on
Homelessness states that some studies have shown areas where this cost can reach $30,000 to
$50,000 per year (Ending, 2017).
Whichever value is considered, it becomes clear that when comparing the cost of providing
affordable housing solutions to the cost of addressing homelessness, there is much more
community value in providing long term housing solutions than to continuously pour money on the
homeless problems.

Hypothesis Synthesis Essay
In order for alien eyes to see what humans can t see the structure and the amount of their
photoreceptor cells, have to differ.
Humans have three cone cells that are extremely sensitive to Red, (620 700nm), Green (490 570nm)
and Blue (450 495nm) wavelengths of light. Although these three cones are most sensitive to these
wavelengths, they are still sensitive to the remaining wavelengths of visible light between 400
700nm. When a light with a wavelength of 600nm is transmitted through the retina, the Red and
Green cones capture, sense and signal the brain that orange light is observed. In this case the Red
and Green cones absorb light but the Green cones are less sensitive. Also, the Blue cones don t
absorb much light and are not sensitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if they were put in a similar situation where 600nm of light were to be observed, then
their yellow cones would signal an observation to their brain different than that of humans. In this
wavelength (600nm) only the yellow cone cells are activated and absorb light, therefore domestic
dogs would observe yellow light and humans would observe orange light.
If an Infrared Light with a wavelength of 750 nm were to be observed by humans, they would
not be able to because none of their cone cells are sensitive to this wavelength of light, in a similar
manner that the blue cone cells weren t sensitive to the 600 nm wavelength of light. It is only
possible for the human brain to view lights that are absorbed by their photoreceptor cells.
Furthermore, there are aquatic organisms such as the mantis shrimp that has an estimated 12 16
photoreceptor cells. In the presence of the 750 nm wavelength of light that humans cone cells aren
t sensitive enough to signal an observation, the mantis shrimps red cone cells are sensitive to this
wavelength of light and can absorb the wavelengths to send a response to their brain. In the
presence of UV B (290 320 nm) wavelengths, humans blue cone cells aren t sensitive enough or
able to absorb enough of the light to signal a response to their brain. Whereas the Mantis Shrimp
has various photo receptors that are sensitive to these

Compare And Contrasting Fama s Articles
Comparing and contrasting Fama s articles (1971, 1990), this work will critically assess the
development of EMH during the 1970 to 1991 period. Firstly, it provides the reader to a short
introduction to the EMH and to comparison the major changes between two articles. Thereafter,
the main focus will be concentrated on second article and its critical evaluation of results
obtained. The main purpose of the capital market is to provide the investors with accurate signals
for resource allocation. It is possible when market security prices do fully reflect available
information providing the opportunity to make production investment decisions. Such markets are
also called the efficient . A precondition for this is that information and trading costs equal to 0.
Moreover, the joint hypothesis problem is the main obstacle about market efficiency because it
must be tested jointly with some asset pricing models. In article of 1971, Fama categorised
market efficiency into three main forms. Weak form is based on the historical data of the stock
prices. The semi strong form tests how efficiently prices adapt to the publically available
information. The third form is concerned whether any given market participants having
monopolistic access to the creation of the stock prices. Final Draft Return Predictability: In short,
the new work rejects the old constant expected returns model that seems to perform well in the
early work. It is rejected due to such findings as

  • 4. The Concept and History of Cryptography Jpz777 05/15/2013 Order # A2096310 From the codes messages passed furtively throughout the courts of medieval Europe, to the infamous Enigma cipher machine which protected Nazi secrets in World War II, the concept of cryptography is nearly as old as the written word itself. Today, the field of information technology has developed to the point that even the most sophisticated encryption methods are vulnerable, and for those working as information security officers, shielding a company s invaluable data through the use of encryption has become an essential skill. Modern encryption methods rely on much of the same techniques used throughout history, with human readable plaintext being transformed into an unreadable format known as ciphertext upon transmission between two parties, in effort to prevent nefarious third party intrusions. Within the sub field of cryptanalysis a growing focus on mathematical theory has spawned the development of intricately constructed algorithms, or governing systems used to precisely define a sequence of operations (Layton, 2007). Modern cryptographic algorithms are capable of creating computationally secured systems that, while they can be theoretically deciphered, are ostensibly secure from any feasible attack strategy. The most widely applied cryptographic algorithms employed by information security officers today typically fall under one of two categories: Symmetric key cryptography and Public key cryptography (Peltier, Peltier Blackley, ... Due to the change of the of the metals over the time period it must of caused a change in the pennies mass. Therefore, the density of pennies created before 1982 and the pennies produced today have different densities. Density can also be used to identify unknown substances Density is defined as the ratio of mass to volume (Lab: A PennyFor Your Thoughts). The density of a matter is equal to the mass divided into the volume. The mass of a matter or object can be found by using a scale. Furthermore, the volume can be found using the method of water displacement. The purpose of finding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, how to physically find the density of an object by finding their mass with a balance and finding the object s volume using the method water displacement. The purpose of the experiment was to find out which metal is used to create post 1982 pennies. Pre 1982 pennies were made out of copper but then the metal used for making pennies changed. The metal used to create pre 1982 pennies was copper. Since the metal used to make pennies changed the density of post 1982 changed. The predicted density was believed to have something close to the metal zinc. Which will show that the post 1982 pennies are made out of zinc. During the experiment, the mass of the post 1982 pennies were found using an electric balance and the volume was found by water displacement. The pennies mass and volumes were recorded. After the recordings of five trials the densities was found of those each trials. After conducting the experiment by trying to find the density of the post 1982 pennies. The average density found after doing the experiment was 7.042 g/mL. The density of zinc is 7.13 g/mL. However, errors may have occurred tampering the density that was discovered. • 7. The Financial Crisis Of 2007 And 2009 Prior to the crisis in 1907, individual banks such as JP Morgan and the reserve banks of New York were considered full service financial institutions. In the year 1913, the Federal Reserve System was created by congress to help stabilize the financial market by acting as the lender of last resort to the banking institutions (federalreserve.gov). Nonetheless the great depression still hit the economy between 1929 and 1933 which led to the stock marketcrash and market share value decrease by 80% (history.com). By the 1980s, the economy had stabilized again and there was increase in computer analysis, electronic information transfer, increased importance of global markets and deregulation of financial institutions. The financial crisis of 2007 and 2009 was the worst since the great depression. It was not a single event but a series of crises whose seeds had been planted in yet another recession of 2001 and the era of the internet bubble years earlier (Bodie, Kane, Marcus, 2011). One of the reasons for the crisis was the rise in subprime lending. Subprime loans were offered to individuals who did not qualify for prime rate loans and carried a higher rate of interest than prime loans (Gilbert, 2011). Another reason behind the subprime mortgage crisis is argued to have been due to the lack of ethics and poor policies such as the Goldman rule which encouraged pursuit of profitable opportunities irrespective of the effects on others (Watkins, 2011). The crises impacted the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After anaesthetizing the baboon in an unassuming way (to avoid hormones produced from anticipatory stress) he collected blood samples from their bodies. What he observed was adrenaline and glucocorticoids dictate the stress response. The physiological changes to the body during the stress response are the lungs work overtime to deliver oxygen to the bloodstream, and the heart races to pump oxygen throughout the body so muscles respond instantly. The blood pressure needs to go up to deliver energy. The body will turn off anything that is not essential at that moment. Examples... Tessa Roseboom concluded our bodies respond to famine in the same way they respond to other stressors, so she endeavored to research if the fetuses of the women pregnant during the famine could be affected by stress. She identified over 2400 people who could have been impacted. Her research revealed the stresses they underwent as fetuses still impacted them 60 years later. Babies conceived during the famine have increased risk of cardiovascular disease, higher hypercholesterolemia, are generally more responsive to stress and are in poorer health than people born before the famine or conceived after it. Stress hormones in the mother s blood triggered a change in the fetus nervous system as it struggled to survive. This was the fetus first experience with stress, and 60 years later their bodies remembered the trauma. Her discoveries shed light on how it is not just fat cells that build up in response to stress; brain chemistry, the capacity and ability to adapt to stress, and how prone one is to psychiatric disorders are all things affected by our earliest interactions with ... Utilitarian s, like Signer, believe that people should do everything they can to maximized the happiness of all people. To them, buying everything in sight is ethically wrong because the money could be better spent on helping others. Using Kant and Aristotle, it can be shown that buying lots of items, like in today s society, can be ethically justified. When Aristotle discusses his views of ethicsin Virtue Ethics , he shows that having just the right about of something is virtuous. For example, there is virtue in being brave, but if one is too brave it is a vise. Just as being too cowardly is also a vise. The virtue of bravery lies somewhere in the middle of cowardice and brashness. The same can be said of today s consumerism. While buying everything and hoarding money is a vice so is giving away too much money to the point that one cannot live. There must be a middle ground in helping others, or else the giver risks turning his virtue into a vice. People can spend money on the things that they wish to spend money on; yet, it is important to note that they should still be giving money to charity. • 22. Echo And Narcissus Analysis Comparing Tragedies: Echo vs. Narcissus Ovid displays an impressive grasp of language in his poem Narcissus and Echo which allows him to address many classic themes, the chief of these being the theme of unfulfilled love and the suffering it brings. The most notable instances of this type of suffering are Echo and Narcissus transformations; Echo withers away until she is naught but a voice, and Narcissus is trapped in place until he eventually transforms into a flower. Upon finishing this tale, the reader is left with much to consider, including the question: which fate is worse? Of course, both fates are certainly cruel, but they given the specific themes and diction that Ovid uses when describing each pseudo death, Echo s punishment seems far less dehumanizing than Narcisssus ; whereas Narcissus is completely objectified by his transformation into a beautiful flower, Echo at least maintains the power of voice. Given Ovid s diction during Echo s introduction, it is clear that her fate is directly tied to the power of speech and voice. Ovid calls her resounding Echo as if this is her title, and the use of the word resounding is very important (line 26). Why not call her loud or huge or any of the other synonyms tied to the word resounding ? One can only assume that Ovid wanted to make use of the word s other definition: resonant and reverberant. By essentially introducing her as Reverberant Echo and mentioning that her speech was strange , Ovid immediately alerts the reader to what is both Echo s downfall and her saving grace: Words have power. Echo over uses words in her favor when she d talk and talk,/ to give her sister nymphs just enough/ time to slip away before they were found out, by Juno (lines 38 40), and eventually, her speech turns on her when she is able to do little more than repeat Narcissus words back to him despite how much she wishes to sing his praises. In the end, however, Echo s final punishment is to become no more than a voice, no more than a literal echo. Surely, this fate is cruel, but perhaps it is not completely unforgiving; though it is very little consolation, Echo at least maintains the power of voice, and however diluted this power might be, Ovid writes, ... • 26. Difference Between Divorce And Divorce Legal Separation vs. Divorce A legal separation is not a divorce. Many couples opt for a legal separation if they want to live apart but do not want to completely end their marriage. The primary difference between a legal separation and a divorce is that in a legal separation, you still remain married but in a divorce, the marriage is terminated. Also, in case of a legal separation, the two parties remain legally married and cannot remarry. But if they divorce, both partners are free to remarry once their divorce is finalized. Why Some Choose Legal Separation? Choosing legal separation is a matter of personal choice or preference. There are some couples who decide to go their separate ways because of religious beliefs or due to health insurance concerns. There are others who separate because they are moving to a different county or state. While these couples choose to live apart, they do not necessarily want to terminate their marriage at that point in time. How Does One Apply for Legal Separation? As recently stated, police officers in inner cities encounter a large population to govern, in fact they deal with various ethnic groups. In this case, police departments in inner cities typically adopt police officers of similar ethnic backgrounds. Throughout the trial, Socratespresents a series of arguments to the jury, proclaiming his innocence. Chiefly among Socrates arguments is the argument of justice versus injustice. At many points throughout the account, Socrates declares the charges against him as unjust, in his understanding of the term justice . Through this brief examination, we will attempt to gain a better understanding of Socrates views of justice, how they relate to his apparent disbelief in the ability to realize justice through public office, and how Socrates views on justice and public office are relevant in the modern world. Socrates acknowledges the vast and broad idea of justice, and attempts to answer the question of what is justice? through debate. In the Republic, Plato writes about Socrates, and of a meeting between him and many other Greek men. Socrates and his fellow Greeks discuss these ideas of justice between them. The Greek Polemarchus makes reference to another man, a poet named Simonides, who believed the justice is, to give to each what is owed to him. Socrates further extends this definition in common Socratic fashion, by attempting to over throw the argument with logic. • 33. The Use Of Sexual Gratification On College Campuses Hookups are a type of brief sexual relationship that typically occur on only one occasion between two people who are usually strangers or have briefly become acquainted (Paul, McManus Hayes, 2000). Hooking up may be considered to be the contemporary term for the older phrase one night stand which also implies a no strings attached interlude. In this sort of association, sexual gratification can be the primary goal, with companionship being a distant consideration. This variety of alliance can certainly involve both heterosexual and homosexual couples and can be facilitated through friends or like minded individuals. According to one study, this casual and non committal sexual encounter based form of interaction now finds itself as the predominating heterosexual relationship on college campuses (Stinson, 2010). It may be easy to see why this is the case as the lifestyles of students are busy ones and often little time is available to devote to what is necessary to maintain a more serious involvement. Friends with Benefits Friends with benefits relationships are generally considered to be a relationship that occurs between friends of the opposite sex who participate in sexual practices but view their bond as being non romantic (Hughes, Morrison, Asada, 2007). Although these three cones are most sensitive to these wavelengths, they are still sensitive to the remaining wavelengths of visible light between 400 700nm. When a light with a wavelength of 600nm is transmitted through the retina, the Red and Green cones capture, sense and signal the brain that orange light is observed. If an Infrared Light with a wavelength of 750 nm were to be observed by humans, they would not be able to because none of their cone cells are sensitive to this wavelength of light, in a similar manner that the blue cone cells weren t sensitive to the 600 nm wavelength of light.
