United States Supreme Court History
The history of the United States Supreme Court dates back to 1789 when George Washington
signed the Judiciary Act of 1789 that was passed by congress. This act established the United States
Supreme Court, the highest court in America and the Appellate court for civil cases and for cases
state ruled on federal statues. Sense the beginning of the United StatesSupreme Court there have
been many changes to their practices, but there are still a few that have stand the test of time.
Between the increase and decreasing of the number of Justices, and the few traditions that still
stand today, you can definitely say the United States Supreme Court has a fascinating history and
so very interesting facts. Justices are appointed by the President and serve for life or until they
choose to retire. In the case of a Chief Justice passing away or retiring, the President appoints a
new Chief Justice. When the Supreme Court was original made in 1790 there were originally six
Justice s, one Chief Justice and five Associate Justices. The number of Justices has change
throughout the years, ranging between six to ten Justices. In 1807 the number of... Show more

Where the Justice s sit in court is one of the traditions, with the Chief Justices sitting in the
middle, with the senior Associate Justice to his right, and the second senior Associate Justice to
his left. At the beginning of each case conference you will see each of the justices shake hands
with each other. This practice started when Chief Justice Melvelle W. Fuller wanted to show that
even though the Justices may have a different of opinions, that they are still united as one. Two
hundred years ago, white quill pens were place on the council s tables in the court, and while the
quill pens may not be used, as often today, the pens are more of a souvenir now for the

There are many approaches in business today that managers can use to analyze the business
environment such as SWOT analysis, PEST analysis, PORTER S five forces analysis, four corner
s analysis, Value chain analysis, Early Warming Scans and War Gaming. However, many
organizations use Michael Porter s frame work to analyze business micro environment where the
organization/company belongs. Business development managers/ Market Survey managers are
mainly critical on analysis of competitive forces in the industry environment in order to identify
opportunities and threats towards the organization so as to win the markets shares. As a case study,

CAPITAL REQUIREMENT
For a better competition in a new industry, an organization requires resources to invest in. Although,
the company has invested heavily in machinery, it still has enough capital for marketing,
inventories, product promotion, advertising, training and R D which has helped in gaining
competitive advantage.
4. ACCESS TO DISTRIBUTION CHANNELS
Producing a quality product is not all. After goods have been produced they need to reach the
consumers. These goods reach consumers through distribution channels which are controlled by the
company. Buranyikwa Agro Farming Co. ltd, has managed to establish good distribution channels
in major five zones in the country, namely lake zone, northern zone, western zone, central zone and
southern highland zone. Through these distribution channels, the company has been able to capture
the market easily as customers can access the equipments and services.
5. EXISTENCE OF LEARNING AND EXPERIENCE CURVE EFFECTS
New entrants find it difficult to break into the market if there is an established operator who
knows the market well, have a good relationship with key buyers and suppliers and know how to
overcome market and operating problems. For the case of Buranyikwa Agro Farming Co. ltd

Safe Injection Sites Case Analysis
The outcome of the Supreme Court s decision in 2011 has created an avalanche of various
legislation and reactions from all over Canada. Two federal Canadian governments have been
involved in the aftermath of the Court s decision, the Conservative government led by Stephen
Harper, and the Liberal government led by Justin Trudeau. Both have taken drastically different
approaches to the issue of safe injection sites. Harper made his view clear when he passed
legislation in response to the court s decision. Trudeau s liberal government is in progress of
investigating the best way to amend legislation for Canada s interests on whole. Not all Canadians

Supporters of the facilities would argue it was a step in the right direction, and that the
Conservative legislation passed in 2015 was a major setback. On the other hand, those who oppose
the safe injection sites completely will be sure to make it as difficult as possible for future sites to
open around the state. The tensions between judicial and executive governments in Canada is not
new, and the balance of powers within the state represents the Canadian democracy. The
controversy is not over, and it is in the Liberal government s hands to see what the next step will be

The Recent Terrorist Attacks Of Paris And San Bernardino
Has the recent terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernardino affected migration worldwide?
Migration has taken place since the beginning of time. Today, people migrate to new countries for
many reasons: poverty, armed conflict, social strife, political turmoil, and economic hardships
(Root Causes of Migration Fact Sheet). The recent terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernardino has
had an major influence on the current migration patterns which has affected the world
economically, politically, culturally, and socially. In the history of terrorist attacks, the most recent
ones were in Paris and San Bernardino. On November 13, 2015, shooting and bombings in the city

In the past, terrorist attacks have always awakened politicians to adjust their laws and regulations in
their country. Currently, Europewas in the middle of a Migration Crisis , and the Paris attacks
seriously challenged the continuity of the Schengen Agreement, which eliminated border controls
in Europe. As of the Monday after the attack, the Schengen Agreement was already effectively
suspended in many places (Diary). As Prial said, The refugee crisis has strained European rules
that allow open borders. (Prial) Always before, the European Union had an open door, but currently
the free movement of people and goods across borders principle is at risk (Prial). In the regional
elections in December in Paris, France, a candidate, Le Pen, called for an immediate halt to stop
allowing anymore migrants to enter France (Prial). It is not only France that is adjusting their
laws, but Poland s new rightwing government on the Saturday after seized on the events in Paris
to argue that the EU s response on its migrant crisis was flawed and that the attacks made
untenable a Brussels led scheme to share refugees among member states (Foy and Hille). Poland s
new Europe minister designate appeared to attribute part of the blame to the EU s decision to
allow refugees and migrants to enter European countries (Foy and Hille). He said the events of

Black Diggers Play Analysis
I don t want to join in. I don t belong (Wright 96). The play follows the idea of belonging and
how those who were considered different feel that they don t belong, because they were
discriminated against, abused, called names, assaulted, named and shamed. This script has been
written in response to these atrocities, that most people had no idea about until they have read or
seen the play, Black Diggers; a play told through the eyes of the Aboriginal soldiers and what they
went through. I believe that this text, specifically the last line of the play, said by Nigel in relation
to how he did not want to be part of the Anzac Day service, sums up what the play is about and
presents the struggles of what the different human beings went... Show more content on

The text highlights the changing attitudes through society, shown towards the Aboriginal culture,
after life threatening events, bringing these men closer than ever before, Back in France, back in
the mud. Blokes like you shook my hand. We dragged blokes like you through the shit and
blood. We saw each other when we were like babies. Like animals. (wright 71). This text also, I
believe, has an inner meaning of morals and mateship as evident in the closing stages of the play,
where the stereotypical white soldiers are starting to get along with the archetypal black soldiers,
who we follow through the play. Following their ever changing story for a better future of equality
and understanding. This all has an origin, which starts at the very beginning of the play, showing
mateship between the Aboriginal men. As the play moves on the bold line separating the two
different cultures, ever so slightly becomes fainter until it is just a blur. The inner meaning for this
text, I see it as recognition towards difference and what is mismatched between the two cultures and
how, this divergence from the normal, is why the black culture, represented as archetypal
characters, we follow them through the play as they try to become just another face in the crowd,
no different from the white man standing next to

Essay about Grunge
Grunge
In the isolated city of Seattle during the mid 1980 s a new sound and attitude was developing.
Although it didn t yet have a coined term it would later become know as Grunge, originally a
tounge in cheek term for the pungent guitar noise propagated by the cultish independent label Sub
Pop ( Grunge ). This mix of 70 s metal and early 80 s punk blasted into mainstream America and
brought the hard rock sound of the 70 s back to life, but the sudden, unexpected and to some
unwanted, fame and popularity would prove to much for it and like so many pop culture

Grunge wasn t a produced sound, the independent record labels that started to pop up where

of a hand and the band and label were now in business together. Unlike the large rock bands of
the 70 s or the pop bands of today Grunge bands didn t go seeking major record labels, they
played to crowds of drunken friends and locals. They would play in clubs and bars where the
crowd would get drunk and thrash about wildly. The Seattle phenomenon wouldn t have been
possible without the network of college radio, fanzines, and indie contributors that sprang up in
the wake of punk rock ( Grunge City ). The bands never expected to get big, most had a tight
following of fans who were all that kept them going. The local fans had a lot to do with the
development of Grunge. Grunge fans were the first fans to create fanzines. Fanzines were
cheaply created magazines used to spread news about their favorite band, where they would be
playing next, what their message was or just about the band members themselves. This small
following of fans didn t put any pressure on a band, when they got up to perform it was to have fun
and see how wild they could get the crowd. This lack of pressure and knowledge of how corporate
America worked was a key factor in the quick downfall of Grunge. In 1991 Michael Jackson and
Paula Abdul were at the top of the

Life Lessons in The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs and The Third Wish by Joan Aiken
What would a typical person do if they had three wishes and knew that there would be a price that
they would have to pay in order for them to fulfill their wishes? This is the question that
overcomes the main characters, Mr. White and Mr. Peters, in the stories The Monkey s Paw by
W.W. Jacobs and The Third Wishby Joan Aiken. In these two stories, two men were allowed to
create three wishes each and had consequences that followed, therefore, they learned a valuable
lesson about life. The men in the two stories were distinct in their own ways, one being very

Each of the men were granted three wishes, however, both men were told ahead of time to be

He lost his only son, Herbert 9page 93 94). Mr. White s second wish was to bring his son back to
life (page 95 96). Well, Herbert died in a machinery malfunction, so if he was to bring his son
back to life, he would be distorted (page 95 96). Mr. White didn t want his son mutilated;
therefore, he wished a third time. This time he wished for his son to stay dead (page 98). Due to
that wish, the White couple had to live a life without their son. However, in the The Third Wish,
we have a different case. In this story, Mr. Peters was very careful about his wishes. Mr. Peters
first wish was to have a wife as beautiful as the forest (page 103). He got the wish, but he later
realized that his wife was a swan and could not be happy as a human. His wife, whose name was
Leita, did not want to leave Mr. Peters, but truly missed her swan sister (page 104). Mr. Peters,
being the kind gentleman that he was, used his second wish to benefit his wife. Mr. Peters

St. Johns Lutheran Church
For as long as I can remember, St. Johns Lutheran Church has been like a second home. It is the
church where I was baptized (for a second time), took first communion and affirmed my faith
through confirmation. I belonged at St. Johns. I was a member of St. Johns.
As I entered adulthood, I had a natural instinct for organization and leadership and I had a strong
interest in using those talents to serve the church. I worked with youth groups, participated in
WELCA, served on the church council and it seemed there wasn t a task I would not take on.
Many people, myself included, anticipated the next logical stop on my journey would be seminary.
But I didn t feel or hear the call at the time.
Nearly two decades later, I started to put the pieces of the puzzle together. It would start with a
simple but powerful statement, We are called to make disciples, not members. That statement
would lead me to reflect on and seek out a better understanding of what it meant to be a disciple.
That, in turn, led me to study and reflect on the concept of servanthood. I realized that developing a
more personal and authentic relationship with Christ required more than just attending worship,
working in the church and simply believing in Him. I realized that living a Christ like life required
a different way of thinking, a different way of living.
The years that followed were filled with more questions than answers. It was a time of skepticism
about the work of the church and how much time

An Example Of An Immigrant As A Refugee
To be considered a refugee, one must be forcefully removed from their homeland through a fear
of violent persecution or driven away by some form of armed conflict (UNHCR, 2016).
Examples of this would be people being displaced by violent warfare or other political conflict in
which their lives or well being may be at stake. In addition to this, such conditions may make it
difficult, or even impossible, for these people to return to their home. On the other hand, migrants
are defined as people who leave their homeland by choice without any threat of violence. Often,
migrants hope to find a better life for their families by seeking out economic opportunity in a
foreign land, and are not necessarily at risk if they were to return (UNHCR, 2016).

Macbeth and in this worsen situation it shows how differently reciprocate to the problem and how
it changed their character. In Act Three has a huge twist between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. As
Macbeth said to himself, To be thus is nothing;/ But to be safely thus (III.i.ll.52 52), Macbeth
becomes more aware of the situation than from the last two acts, wherein he s being careless and

From the first two act she was very pushy, persuasive, and optimistic even they were going
through a difficult situation. But in this act she is very different and she has no control anymore
over Macbeth. The reason is she s only good at planning things, but when things don t go well
with her plans, she became anxious and lost control of things. Lady Macbeth s feminine qualities
becomes visible and she acts more as a lady where she only comfort Macbeth throughout the
entire act three and telling him to sleep (rest; III.iv.ll.173). And especially Lady Macbeth only
acquired masculine qualities like cruelty from the first act because she asked it from evil spirits,
she is not a natural evil and in the end she can t contain and maintain those dark qualities.
Therefore for the conclusion: as the situation becomes out of control, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
changes their character throughout act three. Macbeth becomes more bold on his actions and not

research findings adheres or exemplifies good conduct. This alludes to the notion that moral rules
and professionalism extends to even the collection of researchobjects, analysis of the same, and
publication of gathered information about the research objects for purposes of distributing to third
parties.
Generally, ethical standards even in other aspects of life tend to be ungoverned by law and only
observed by individuals through their conscience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of them is that the researchers should not have been forced into the research. They should be
undertaking it free from undue pressure. This principle, otherwise referred to as principle of
voluntary participation, will ensure the autonomy of the participants which is a very vital element
in the process of research. Another principle is that the research should be of such a value that it
outweighs the potential risks or probable harm that the researchers will face. Also, the participants
should be sufficiently informed in regards to all aspects of the research. (Apa.org, 2015)
In essence, ethics in research are of great significance. Firstly, it promotes the purpose of the
research. Different researches are conducted for different purposes and for different audiences.
In the world of academics, ethics in research are key in promoting the research s objective. The
findings of the research becomes more reliable and the researcher comes off as one with dignity
and integrity. This also helps to create a good relationship between the researcher and the
consumers of his or her academic work or also if the research was intended for an academic
assignment, the researcher s credibility is enhanced. (Deakin.edu.au, 2015) More often than not, a
research that is guided by ethics will have its purpose based on good deeds. These deeds includes
academic purposes such undertaking assignments, correcting an erroneous piece of information,

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Abstract
Abstract NMR is a form of spectroscopy that utilizes external magnetic fields and signals to
identify the chemical structure of organic molecules, creating a gradient image. Through
applying an applied Radio Frequency, the proton is able to flip into higher energy states, and
then relax. This process is recorded by a NMR Spectrometer, and the difference in energy
provides it with a certain NMR Signal. The difference in the magnetic fields of the allows for a
gradient image of the area. There are various types of imaging that are useful for fast imaging or
3D imaging such as Gradient Echo Imaging or Volume Imaging. Some other applications of the
same principles that apply to MRIs mainly relate to the identification of organic molecules such
as Protein Folding and Drug Development. Although MRI is a relatively safe and harmless
process as opposed to other forms of imaging such as X rays, certain aspects still pose a risk to
patients... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the prevalence of Hydrogen atoms the human body, their NMR signals are what allows
for the identification of the molecule. Although not all protons have a spin, the spin on the
hydrogen proton allows it to have its own magnetic field and NMR signal. A key property is the
spin of the proton. The spin of a proton is expressed in В± k (1/2), where k is a coefficient. During
the NMR process, an external magnetic field is applied on the protons, partially polarizing them.
This will cause them to all align in the same orientation, around the magnetic field direction, as it is
the easiest to maintain that position. This is called the Minimum Magnetic Potential Energy. Its
other spin state is its high energy spin state, where it spins in the opposite direction around the
magnetic field. The Magnetic Dipole Moment defines the spin on a proton and is shown with the

Effects of the BP Oil Spill
Four years ago from today, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and sunk, killing eleven
people. Underwater cameras showed that the pipe was leaking oil and gas about 40 miles from
the coast of Louisiana. This leak would eventually release about 4.9 million barrels of oil into
the Gulf before it would be capped 87 days later. Immediately after the explosion, workers from
Transocean, BP, and the government attempted to control the spread of oil to the coast by using
oil booms and chemical dispersants to break down underwater oil. However, these methods had
problems. First, oil booms only stop the spread of surface oil. While that sounds good, lots of
the oil was beneath the surface and the booms did nothing to stop the spread of this oil. Second,
the chemical dispersants used to break down the underwater oil could be just as harmful to
marine life as the oil was. Over 1.84 million gallons of Corexit dispersant were used in the Gulf.
Use of the dispersant was described as the most effective and fast moving tool for minimizing
shoreline impact . Despite these claims, an analysis conducted by Toxipedia showed that the
dispersant could contain cancer causing agents, hazardous toxins and endocrine disrupting
chemicals. Scientists were concerned that the dispersants made a spill even more toxic, increasing
the danger to wildlife. The dangers are even greater when poured into the source of a spill, because
they are picked up by the current and washed through the Gulf. The oil

Comparing Women In Hamlet And The Changeling
The role of women is a crucial theme in both Hamlet and the Changeling to depict the chaotic
turbulence in Hamlet s family, the court of Denmark, Alicante s household and the asylum. In
Hamlet, the female characters, Gertrude and Ophelia, are unappreciated women that are considered
frail and weak minded by the men in their lives. In contrast, the Changeling explores the realms
feminine power and weakness. While there are only a few years between the tragedies, the women s
behaviour towards the implications of their social status is radically different. Whereas Shakespeare
only illustrates the destructive, deadly consequences when one rebels against their position in
society, Middleton and Rowley demonstrate how remaining faithful and obedient... Show more

Ophelia embodies the flaw of obedience, but deeper than that, the flaw of dependence. Ophelia is
completely dependent on her father, Polonius, and proves her loyalty and unwavering dependence
when she agrees to stay away from Hamlet and his false sentiments. She gives in quite easily when
Polonius forbids her from seeing Hamlet again, in Act 1 Scene 4, I shall obey my lord . The use
of the appellation lord , Ophelia is belittling herself to below her father and ultimately, men and

In the time period of 1750 1776 tensions had risen between the colonists and England.
Circumstances had gotten worse than before. Colonists got very mad because the English
Parliament passed many acts that raised taxes. In reply to the taxes the colonists revolted and took
a stand. Document A shows that in 1754 the Pennsylvania Gazette printed a cartoon of a snake that
represented the colonies which were divided in eight pieces, Georgia and Rhode Island were not

Invisible City Themes
Invisible City documents the lives of two teenagers living in Regent Park, and the impact they
cause on those around them. (Davis, 2009). The teenagers, Mikey and Kendell, are individuals
struggling with various issues. Essentially, the documentary chronicles the ups and downs of their
lives, in an environment that is constantly trying to diminish them (Davis, 2009). With that being
said, there are two main themes found within the documentary. The first theme focuses on the strife
that these teenagers, and those within their lives, endure. The second one feeds off this strife, and
demonstrates the potential of Mikey and Kendell. Aspects of both themes have been discussed in
our class lectures, because they relate to major societal problems. Overall, these themes outline the
obstacles the teenagers face in their youth, and the possibility for a better future, both of which
include prominent topics in our class lectures.
In more specific terms, the theme regarding strife is defined by the various hardships these
teenagers presently encounter such as race, crime, education, family issues, and poverty, all of
which can be related to our class lectures. Firstly, race is a basic component in the strife that these
teenagers experience. In Canada, those who are black are considered to be part of a minority
group. Thus, they are usually at a disadvantage in a mostly white society. An example of this is
found in the documentary, where the boys mention that they have been stopped by police for no ...

The Causes Of Air Pollution In Beijing, China
Beijing, China has a coal mining history of nearly 800 and some odd years. This has been a major
air pollutant and the main reason for it is because its economy has grown substantially in the last 30
years. Worldwide, there are twenty cities with the highest, worst air pollution, sixteen of those cities
are within China alone. The main causes of Beijing s air pollutioncan be pointed to several factors.
Large economical growth, an increase in vehicles on the roads, growth in population, and
manufacturing. China has also experienced major economic growth with a large rise in Gross
Domestic Product. This increase can be connected with pollution. Vehicles are just one contributor
to pollution which we will discuss later in this paper. The population growth in Beijing contributes
to a big portion of its pollution. The population has risen from 11 million to 16 million in just 7
years, and has nearly doubled over the past century. Factories that utilize coal burning contribute to
the smogcurrently present in Beijing. Many of these factories depend on outdated and inefficient
technology which emits air pollutants. Beijing is a victim of its own topography since it s
surrounded by mountains which traps pollution within the city. Air quality worsens in the spring
and summer seasons when the humidity and temperature levels increase. Air pollution has been so
drastic to the point that the city often engulfs in smog making it near zero visibility which in turn

Growing Project Complexity Demands More Efficient Way For...
Growing project complexity demands more efficient way to manage communication and

artifacts to be created easily shared and updated , that provides web based access and critical
function such as automatic distribution and notification are crucial to enhance the productivity .
Agile project managementthat has been given as much attention in the recent years is in growing
popularity for the next decades. Slightly updated, agile project management would take a hybrid
form. Therefore, project team is willing to combine agile with a traditional principles of PM to
create personalized hybrids. As before, the central point of Project Management Offices (PMO)
attention remains the question of measurements the effectiveness and result of the project.
Previously, the main focus was on input factors (reduced time and cost), today the attention is
given to the output factor recipient or client. The new definition of project success is that project
can exceed its time and cost estimates so long as the clients determines that it is successful by
whatever criteria they use. Thus, the project value is determined by the recipient not by provider
(Ward, 2012 citied from O Sheedy, 2012).

Social Cultural Change
1. Social cultural change Social cultural change can be considered as a big term which is being used
to describe theories that relate to cultural evolution and social change, and it attempts to explain
how societies and cultures have evolved. Social cultural change involves the alteration of behavior
patterns, cultural norms, and values found in human societies. Is Social Cultural Change Caused
By Science And Technology? Technology is the utilization of scientific knowledge which is applied
in the making of tools which are used to solve certain problems that exist in the society. Various
technological advancement such as computers, airplanes, radio, television, automobiles, and
cellular phones have resulted in major changes which are witnessed in the society today (Hall,
2016). The following are four criteria that can be used to predict if technology has resulted in social
cultural change: computer technology, biotechnology, industrialization, and unemployment.
Computer Technology Most people around the world witnessed the explosion of computer
technology in the year 1990s including America and other continents. This new technology has led
to changes and has caused numerous dynamic in where and how people work. For instance, there
are people known as the telecommuters who work for various organizations full time or part time at
homes rather than traveling to the offices. This is possible because homes and offices are

How The Culture Has Five Essential Characteristics
Culture has five essential characteristics: It is learned, shared, based on symbols, it is
interconnected, and dynamic, meaning it interacts with other cultures and is changeable. In all
parts of the world, most people do not understand the culture from their local town, much less so the
culture in a country on the other side of the world. All cultures share prominent features that set
them apart from the rest of the world. Geography, language, military, people, and history uniquely

in real life wars. A very famous viral video called Kony 2012 was trying to get people to help catch

twenty years. Child soldiers are defined as: children under the age of 18 who are recruited by state

spies, or even for sexual purposes. Most of the children that do get wound up in the world of child

he is doing it for the world. Ender is being used as a child soldier to stop an alien race and at only

HISTORY OF THE ANCIENT MAYA
By 5000 BC, the Maya had settled along Caribbean and Pacific coasts, forming egalitarian fishing

their subsistence. Maize and beans formed the Maya diet then as today, although many other

Numerous empirical studies have confirmed that there is a positive relationship between proximity
and competition Ottaviano, (2011). In many industries such as the hospitality industry,
agglomeration raises the prospects of heightened competition between hotels that choose to
agglomerate. This position is keenly supported by Bresnahan and Reiss, (1991) and Sutton (1991).
In their view even though agglomeration brings to bare a lot of opportunities and benefits that
enhances the performance of the firm, it also brings about a strong source of completion. This form
of competition can be seen in terms of products, services, human resources, and the fight for the
same inputs among many others. Sutton (1991) uncovered that; agglomeration could interact with
hotel s products and services strategies. Particularly the efforts of the hotel to differentiate their
goods and services from other hotels around them will demand that new strategies to be developed.
As emphasized by Ottaviano (2011), even though agglomeration results in strict competition
between firms who choose to locate in close proximity to other firms, there are still some sorts of
opportunities that firms enjoy from agglomerating. This suggests that agglomeration presents a
congenial atmosphere for competition between hotels which invariably brings about some
significant benefits to the agglomerating hotels. A study conducted by Kalnins and Chung, (2004),
also confirms the position that agglomeration brings opportunities to the hotels that are situated
close to each other. They further added that while competitive effects prevail within the hotel
industries, the net benefits of agglomeration may in fact be positive between differentiated hotels in
the particular vicinity. Even though they could not directly identify the exact mechanisms behind

Torrey Honors Institute
My ethnographic research paper is about Biola University s Torrey Honors Institute. I decided to
research on this topic because I am really interested in this liberal honors program and in Torrey
students academic life. I noticed that most Biola students do not know much about Torrey students.
Normal Biola students will stereotyped Torrey students and consider them to be intellectual elitists,
since the Torrey program is an honors program. Therefore, I wanted to do researchon Torrey Honors
Institute not only because of my interest, but also because I want to reveal what is the program
truly like in order to prove my viewpoints to my audience. My ethnographic research paper
effectively introduces Torrey Honors Institute and reveals Torrey... Show more content on

For example, from the online research, I noticed that Torrey students have a heavy workload, since
they need to read about fifteen ancient literature per semester. When I was writingabout the
interviews, the quotes of my interviewees show Torrey student s perspective directly to my
audience. During the observation, each Torrey student shows their passion of literature and
their desire of learning lessons from literature. This ethnographic research project was
challenging because it was my first time preparing and doing actual interviews by myself. It was
also my first time to observe in a Torrey session. Nevertheless, the process of the research is
successful, and I am really glad that I did all the research on Torrey program since this is a great
opportunity for me and for my audience to know about Torrey program and Torrey

The Representation of African Americans in the Media and...
Introduction
In popular culture, specifically American television, representations of African Americans often rely
upon an array of stereotypes. Representation is the production of meaning through language or
signifying systems. In media, the dominant stereotypes of African Americans include the sapphire,
the coon, the jezebel, and the buck. These stereotypes originated during the minstrelsy period of
the 1830s from white actors in blackface. While classic Black stereotypes originated during this
period, they have carried on past the stage onto the small screen today.
Television is a complex site of power where African Americans themselves have enacted these
aforementioned stereotypes, particularly in the situation comedy genre. African ... Show more

Also completing the cast are R B singers K.Michelle and Karlie Redd (Love and Hip Hop Atlanta,
2013).
The show is known much less for hip hop and much more for its drama. The first season surrounds
the love triangle between Stevie J, Mimi, and Joseline. Stevie J s chronic infidelity has been
criticized as a form of abuse (Abrams, 2012). Abrams (2012) gave an opinion piece on The Grio s
website that had received much attention. She believes that showing unhealthy relationships with
emotional abuse and chronic infidelity is contributing to and condoning a culture of misogyny that
sanctions the abuse of black women (Abrams). She feared that trivializing destructive behavior in
entertainment will cause viewers to be unable to handle these behaviors in their own lives.
Communication Problem
In communication scholarship, there isn t enough understanding of how reality show audiences
feel about what they watch. The purpose in conducting this study is to develop an understanding of
how audiences interpret performed identities in reality television. There needs to be more
discussion of the present state of reality television. Much of the discussion of African Americans
in reality television circle around 2008 when Flavor of Love or Omarosa Manigulat Stallworth,
star of The Apprentice, was on air. Reality television is increasingly becoming the dominant genre
of television. Because of it staged version of reality, audience members are

Sacrifice In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Sacrifice Sacrifice is a huge contribution to a friendship. It helps build trust and construct respect

Mice and Men George sacrifices his job for Lennie after Lennie gets in trouble in Weed. When they
were working in weed Lennie saw a little girl in a silky red dress and he wanted to touch it. So he
walked over to the girl and grabbed her dress; the little girl started to scream. Lennie got scared

System Software ( Os )
System software (systems software) is computer software designed to operate and control the
computer hardware and to provide a platform for running application software. System software can
be separated into two different categories, operating systems and utility software. The operating
system (OS) is the best known example of system software. The OS manages all the other programs
in a computer.
An operating system (sometimes abbreviated as OS ) is the program that, after being initially
loaded into the computer by a boot program, manages all the other programs in a computer. The
other programs are called applications or application programs. The application programs make use
of the operating system by making requests for services through a defined application program
interface (API). In addition, users can interact directly with the operating system through a user
interface such as a command language or a graphical user interface (GUI).
The operating system s most important job is managing the CPU: If there are multiple programs
that must execute, then it is a disaster if one program uses the processor and loops . The OS must
ensure that all programs have fair use of the processor s time so that all programs make progress at
execution.
The CPU executes each process a bit at a time. The CPU s clock times the execution of a process,
and when a time limit is reached, then the clock signals the CPU that it is time to switch to another
process. The CPU executes just one

The Upcoming Development of Liberal Democracies in Mexico...
Democracy: A political system in which citizens enjoy a number of basic civil and political rights,
and in which their most important political leaders are elected in free and fair elections and
accountable under a rule of law (26). In the studies we have undertaken, comparing and exploring
various countries and systems politically, economically, and psychologically throughout the quarter,
this outcry of democracy has prevailed as a main theme. Successful countries such as the United
States and Great Britain are based upon such democratic ideals. It is no wonder that countries have
striven more recently toward this goal of democratization. Both the Russian and Mexican
revolutions prove that democracy is an attainable goal in the next... Show more content on

Socialism offered an ideal and classless society in which the state controlled everything, yet the
people utilized the practice of controlling politics. He formed a highly centralized government,
which was furthered to totalitarian goals by his successor, Joseph Stalin. Stalin focused on
military and industrial gains which, by his death in 1953, had crippled the Soviet state because his
successors could not make any reforms without undermining the CPSU the Communist Party of
the Soviet Union (367). A heavy reliance on secret police and a militarized economy was already
in place when Mikhail Gorbachev came on the scene. He was elected General Secretary of the
CPSU in 1985 when the USSR was in middle of continually diminishing economic productivity; it
became stagnant. With his powers as secretary, he saw room for reform to change the USSR
drastically. He planned to do this through instituting glastnost, or openness, in society, which he
believed would ameliorate levels of corruption. Corruption was a detriment to democratization,
which he believed would heal the economy. He brought back the first contested elections in many
years. With democratic procedures in place, Gorbachev lost his power to Yeltsin. Notwithstanding
the amended constitution, Yeltsin took liberty to control parliament to cope with the country s
economic problems (369). Yeltsin s successor was chosen as Vladimir Putin who has severely
radicalized the

Police Corruption In The Law Enforcement Department
In the United States of America, corruption in the law enforcement department are continuing to be
a major problem in the community. Some police officers are using their authority to attain profit
and pleasure from resident, while other good police are continuing to do what s right. Police
corruption can happen anywhere, but major cities are dealing with corruptions such as Los
Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, and New Orleans. For example, six Philadelphia law
enforcementofficers were arrested for kidnapping a drug suspect and threating to cause harm to his
family, which led to holding the suspect over the balcony railing from a 18th floor building (Assefa,
2014). Their misconduct and unethical leadership became one of the worse situations

The play follows the idea of belonging and how those who were considered different feel that they don t belong, because they were discriminated against, abused, called names, assaulted, named and shamed. This script has been written in response to these atrocities, that most people had no idea about until they have read or seen the play, Black Diggers; a play told through the eyes of the Aboriginal soldiers and what they went through. This text also, I believe, has an inner meaning of morals and mateship as evident in the closing stages of the play, where the stereotypical white soldiers are starting to get along with the archetypal black soldiers, who we follow through the play. Following their ever changing story for a better future of equality and understanding. This all has an origin, which starts at the very beginning of the play, showing mateship between the Aboriginal men. As the play moves on the bold line separating the two different cultures, ever so slightly becomes fainter until it is just a blur. The inner meaning for this text, I see it as recognition towards difference and what is mismatched between the two cultures and how, this divergence from the normal, is why the black culture, represented as archetypal characters, we follow them through the play as they try to become just another face in the crowd, no different from the white man standing next to ... Unlike the large rock bands of the 70 s or the pop bands of today Grunge bands didn t go seeking major record labels, they played to crowds of drunken friends and locals. They would play in clubs and bars where the crowd would get drunk and thrash about wildly. The Seattle phenomenon wouldn t have been possible without the network of college radio, fanzines, and indie contributors that sprang up in the wake of punk rock ( Grunge City ). The bands never expected to get big, most had a tight following of fans who were all that kept them going. The local fans had a lot to do with the development of Grunge. Grunge fans were the first fans to create fanzines. Fanzines were cheaply created magazines used to spread news about their favorite band, where they would be playing next, what their message was or just about the band members themselves. This small following of fans didn t put any pressure on a band, when they got up to perform it was to have fun and see how wild they could get the crowd. That statement would lead me to reflect on and seek out a better understanding of what it meant to be a disciple. That, in turn, led me to study and reflect on the concept of servanthood. I realized that developing a more personal and authentic relationship with Christ required more than just attending worship, working in the church and simply believing in Him. Lady Macbeth s feminine qualities becomes visible and she acts more as a lady where she only comfort Macbeth throughout the entire act three and telling him to sleep (rest; III.iv.ll.173). In essence, ethics in research entails conducting research in a way that the method or procedure employed, the purpose of the research and the way one publishes his or her research findings adheres or exemplifies good conduct. This alludes to the notion that moral rules and professionalism extends to even the collection of researchobjects, analysis of the same, and publication of gathered information about the research objects for purposes of distributing to third parties. One of them is that the researchers should not have been forced into the research. They should be undertaking it free from undue pressure. This principle, otherwise referred to as principle of voluntary participation, will ensure the autonomy of the participants which is a very vital element in the process of research. Another principle is that the research should be of such a value that it outweighs the potential risks or probable harm that the researchers will face. Also, the participants should be sufficiently informed in regards to all aspects of the research. (Apa.org, 2015) In essence, ethics in research are of great significance. Firstly, it promotes the purpose of the research. Different researches are conducted for different purposes and for different audiences. In the world of academics, ethics in research are key in promoting the research s objective. The findings of the research becomes more reliable and the researcher comes off as one with dignity and integrity. This also helps to create a good relationship between the researcher and the consumers of his or her academic work or also if the research was intended for an academic assignment, the researcher s credibility is enhanced. • 24. Magnetic Resonance Imaging Abstract Abstract NMR is a form of spectroscopy that utilizes external magnetic fields and signals to identify the chemical structure of organic molecules, creating a gradient image. Through applying an applied Radio Frequency, the proton is able to flip into higher energy states, and then relax. This process is recorded by a NMR Spectrometer, and the difference in energy provides it with a certain NMR Signal. The difference in the magnetic fields of the allows for a gradient image of the area. There are various types of imaging that are useful for fast imaging or 3D imaging such as Gradient Echo Imaging or Volume Imaging. Some other applications of the same principles that apply to MRIs mainly relate to the identification of organic molecules such as Protein Folding and Drug Development. Although MRI is a relatively safe and harmless process as opposed to other forms of imaging such as X rays, certain aspects still pose a risk to patients... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the prevalence of Hydrogen atoms the human body, their NMR signals are what allows for the identification of the molecule. Although not all protons have a spin, the spin on the hydrogen proton allows it to have its own magnetic field and NMR signal. A key property is the spin of the proton. The spin of a proton is expressed in В± k (1/2), where k is a coefficient. During the NMR process, an external magnetic field is applied on the protons, partially polarizing them. This will cause them to all align in the same orientation, around the magnetic field direction, as it is the easiest to maintain that position. This is called the Minimum Magnetic Potential Energy. Its other spin state is its high energy spin state, where it spins in the opposite direction around the magnetic field. • 25. Effects of the BP Oil Spill Four years ago from today, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and sunk, killing eleven people. Underwater cameras showed that the pipe was leaking oil and gas about 40 miles from the coast of Louisiana. This leak would eventually release about 4.9 million barrels of oil into the Gulf before it would be capped 87 days later. Immediately after the explosion, workers from Transocean, BP, and the government attempted to control the spread of oil to the coast by using oil booms and chemical dispersants to break down underwater oil. However, these methods had problems. First, oil booms only stop the spread of surface oil. While that sounds good, lots of the oil was beneath the surface and the booms did nothing to stop the spread of this oil. Second, the chemical dispersants used to break down the underwater oil could be just as harmful to marine life as the oil was. Over 1.84 million gallons of Corexit dispersant were used in the Gulf. Use of the dispersant was described as the most effective and fast moving tool for minimizing shoreline impact . Despite these claims, an analysis conducted by Toxipedia showed that the dispersant could contain cancer causing agents, hazardous toxins and endocrine disrupting chemicals. Scientists were concerned that the dispersants made a spill even more toxic, increasing the danger to wildlife. The dangers are even greater when poured into the source of a spill, because they are picked up by the current and washed through the Gulf. The oil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This has been a major air pollutant and the main reason for it is because its economy has grown substantially in the last 30 years. Worldwide, there are twenty cities with the highest, worst air pollution, sixteen of those cities are within China alone. The main causes of Beijing s air pollutioncan be pointed to several factors. Large economical growth, an increase in vehicles on the roads, growth in population, and manufacturing. China has also experienced major economic growth with a large rise in Gross Domestic Product. This increase can be connected with pollution. Vehicles are just one contributor to pollution which we will discuss later in this paper. The population growth in Beijing contributes to a big portion of its pollution. The population has risen from 11 million to 16 million in just 7 years, and has nearly doubled over the past century. Factories that utilize coal burning contribute to the smogcurrently present in Beijing. Many of these factories depend on outdated and inefficient technology which emits air pollutants. Beijing is a victim of its own topography since it s surrounded by mountains which traps pollution within the city. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Numerous empirical studies have confirmed that there is a positive relationship between proximity and competition Ottaviano, (2011). In many industries such as the hospitality industry, agglomeration raises the prospects of heightened competition between hotels that choose to agglomerate. This position is keenly supported by Bresnahan and Reiss, (1991) and Sutton (1991). In their view even though agglomeration brings to bare a lot of opportunities and benefits that enhances the performance of the firm, it also brings about a strong source of completion. This form of competition can be seen in terms of products, services, human resources, and the fight for the same inputs among many others. Sutton (1991) uncovered that; agglomeration could interact with hotel s products and services strategies. Particularly the efforts of the hotel to differentiate their goods and services from other hotels around them will demand that new strategies to be developed. As emphasized by Ottaviano (2011), even though agglomeration results in strict competition between firms who choose to locate in close proximity to other firms, there are still some sorts of opportunities that firms enjoy from agglomerating. This suggests that agglomeration presents a congenial atmosphere for competition between hotels which invariably brings about some significant benefits to the agglomerating hotels. A study conducted by Kalnins and Chung, (2004), also confirms the position that agglomeration brings opportunities to the hotels that are situated close to each other. They further added that while competitive effects prevail within the hotel industries, the net benefits of agglomeration may in fact be positive between differentiated hotels in the particular vicinity. Normal Biola students will stereotyped Torrey students and consider them to be intellectual elitists, since the Torrey program is an honors program. Therefore, I wanted to do researchon Torrey Honors Institute not only because of my interest, but also because I want to reveal what is the program truly like in order to prove my viewpoints to my audience. My ethnographic research paper effectively introduces Torrey Honors Institute and reveals Torrey... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, from the online research, I noticed that Torrey students have a heavy workload, since they need to read about fifteen ancient literature per semester. When I was writingabout the interviews, the quotes of my interviewees show Torrey student s perspective directly to my audience. During the observation, each Torrey student shows their passion of literature and their desire of learning lessons from literature. This ethnographic research project was challenging because it was my first time preparing and doing actual interviews by myself. It was also my first time to observe in a Torrey session. Nevertheless, the process of the research is successful, and I am really glad that I did all the research on Torrey program since this is a great opportunity for me and for my audience to know about Torrey program and Torrey ... • 43. The Representation of African Americans in the Media and... Introduction In popular culture, specifically American television, representations of African Americans often rely upon an array of stereotypes. Representation is the production of meaning through language or signifying systems. In media, the dominant stereotypes of African Americans include the sapphire, the coon, the jezebel, and the buck. These stereotypes originated during the minstrelsy period of the 1830s from white actors in blackface. While classic Black stereotypes originated during this period, they have carried on past the stage onto the small screen today. Television is a complex site of power where African Americans themselves have enacted these aforementioned stereotypes, particularly in the situation comedy genre. African ... The show is known much less for hip hop and much more for its drama. The first season surrounds the love triangle between Stevie J, Mimi, and Joseline. Stevie J s chronic infidelity has been criticized as a form of abuse (Abrams, 2012). Abrams (2012) gave an opinion piece on The Grio s website that had received much attention. She believes that showing unhealthy relationships with emotional abuse and chronic infidelity is contributing to and condoning a culture of misogyny that sanctions the abuse of black women (Abrams). She feared that trivializing destructive behavior in entertainment will cause viewers to be unable to handle these behaviors in their own lives. • 45. System Software ( Os ) System software (systems software) is computer software designed to operate and control the computer hardware and to provide a platform for running application software. System software can be separated into two different categories, operating systems and utility software. The operating system (OS) is the best known example of system software. The OS manages all the other programs in a computer. An operating system (sometimes abbreviated as OS ) is the program that, after being initially loaded into the computer by a boot program, manages all the other programs in a computer. The other programs are called applications or application programs. The application programs make use of the operating system by making requests for services through a defined application program interface (API). In addition, users can interact directly with the operating system through a user interface such as a command language or a graphical user interface (GUI). The operating system s most important job is managing the CPU: If there are multiple programs that must execute, then it is a disaster if one program uses the processor and loops . The OS must ensure that all programs have fair use of the processor s time so that all programs make progress at execution. The CPU executes each process a bit at a time. The CPU s clock times the execution of a process, and when a time limit is reached, then the clock signals the CPU that it is time to switch to another process. The CPU executes just one ... Socialism offered an ideal and classless society in which the state controlled everything, yet the people utilized the practice of controlling politics. He formed a highly centralized government, which was furthered to totalitarian goals by his successor, Joseph Stalin. Stalin focused on military and industrial gains which, by his death in 1953, had crippled the Soviet state because his successors could not make any reforms without undermining the CPSU the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (367). A heavy reliance on secret police and a militarized economy was already in place when Mikhail Gorbachev came on the scene. He was elected General Secretary of the CPSU in 1985 when the USSR was in middle of continually diminishing economic productivity; it became stagnant. With his powers as secretary, he saw room for reform to change the USSR drastically. He planned to do this through instituting glastnost, or openness, in society, which he believed would ameliorate levels of corruption. Corruption was a detriment to democratization, which he believed would heal the economy. He brought back the first contested elections in many years. With democratic procedures in place, Gorbachev lost his power to Yeltsin. Notwithstanding the amended constitution, Yeltsin took liberty to control parliament to cope with the country s economic problems (369).
