My Growing In Port-Au-Prince, Haiti
Growing in Port au Prince, Haiti, I truly was not receiving a proper education and I knew that my
education was the only way for a more successful future. When I was young, my mother read a book
to me every day until I was old enough to read by myself. She would purchase English and I would
read them to the best of my ability. This is how I began teaching myself English. I came to the United
States at the age of five years old because of all the violence, and was able to because of my status as a
Canadian citizen. The court assigned my aunt legal guardianship of me, the reason being that it was
not a safe choice for me to go back to Haiti, I became active in the U.S and attended school. My
mother always pushed me to be and do better, this is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am driven by my ambitions and thrive to learn not only to educate myself, but to use my knowledge
to educate others. Learning is not always associated with school; we learn things through experiences,
mistakes, life lessons, people around us, and most importantly ourselves. In life I aspire to become a
neurosurgeon like Dr. Ben Carson who has truly inspired me in various ways, and have what is called
Healing Hands . My favorite quote is from his mother, You can do anything anybody else can do,
except you can do it better. I carry these words with me every single day, with ever decision I make.
One of my main goals in life is to visit Africa and build schools and manage a hospital so children in
the area will receive a proper education, as well as a proper care. Through my own experience, I can
truly say that life in a developing country is very challenging and I believe that these children deserve,
as well as anyone else, the chance to learn in order to be successful in the future. This audacious path,
which I have chosen, involves a great deal of learning and I know that I am most ready to do what is

Investure, Llc, and Smith College
UVA F 1537 INVESTURE, LLC, AND SMITH COLLEGE In January 2004, Alice Handy s new
investment advisory firm, Investure, LLC, was attempting to land its first client, Smith College, an
elite liberal arts college located in Northampton, Massachusetts with a $913 million endowment.
Handy, fresh from her previous position as chief executive officer of the University of Virginia
Investment Management Company (UVIMCO), had 25 years of experience managing money and a
track record of success. Over her career, Handy had directed increasing amounts of funds to a class of
investments known as alternative assets, which included a range of investments other than publicly
traded stocks and bonds. She had also developed a philosophy about ... Show more content on

She also found herself involved in fundraising efforts when donations to UVa s capital campaign
involved life trusts. During the 1990s, as state support of higher education dwindled, endowment
funds took on increasing importance for UVa and other public universities. Handy s position was
restructured to enable her to dedicate more time to the investment side. The previously lowkey staff
and endowment both grew rapidly as Handy s team began conducting proprietary research. Soon
nearly a dozen investment professionals and five accounting and administrative staff members were
managing the endowment. In 2003, after 29 years with the university, Handy determined it was time
for a change. In July of that year, she announced her retirement as chief executive officer of
UVIMCO, leaving behind a healthy endowment and a strong record of performance. UVIMCO s asset
allocation had changed considerably during Handy s tenure, and the endowment had enjoyed strong
performance (Exhibits 1 and 2). UVa s endowment had generated an average annual return of more
than 13% since Handy s arrival and it had grown to almost $2 billion in market value (Exhibit 3).
Through her years of service, Handy had developed an extensive list of contacts including business
leaders, asset managers, venture capitalists, and philanthropists.

Ethical Framework In Teleological Framework
A case study was done on the closing of a textile manufacturing company in North Carolina, which
decided to relocate the business to another country. The decision to transfer was based on the fact that
the company would generate more revenue at a lower cost. However, the proponents of such a move
were based on an ethical teleological framework decision. However, an ethical leader has certain
qualities that are needed to build trust and develop sustainable relationships amongst numerous
stakeholders (Eisenbeils Brodbeck, 2014). According to the reading in Unit V, the proponents and
decision to move the textile company to Southeast Asia are based on the teleological framework.
Also, to understand why this move is considered to be ethical, we must look at the meaning of
teleological framework. Teleological is based on one s consequences of action; nevertheless, these
results of interests are those that affect the individuals directly. Additionally, teleological ethics
determines the value of a moral action or a moral life result from that action or life; consequently,
philosophies within teleological ethics are also known as consequentialist ethical theories (Kocyigit
Karadag, 2016). Further, the leader is also in favor of utilitarianism, whereas they can find themselves
confronting undecidable dilemmas for which making a particular decision becomes almost random
(Farmer, 2015). Although, moving to Southeast Asia can be seen as a good and assessable magnitude,

National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius Life was different back in the 1880s. The
telephone had just been invented, James Garfield was president, and doctors used heroin and cocaine
as medicine. Alas, many doctors knew very little about medicine. Oftentimes unsafe and unsterile
practices were used on patients. The NY Times reports that, At least a dozen medical experts probed
the President [Garfield] s wound, often with unsterilized metal instruments or bare hands, as was
common at the time. Historians agree that massive infection, which resulted from unsterile practices,
contributed to Garfield s death. One man suggested that they turn the president upside down and see if

Since insurance companies are required to provide care, it makes sense to buy insurance only when
you need it. In other words, wait until you get sick to buy insurance, because they cannot turn you
down. In order to combat this, the law includes an individual mandate, which requires anyone that can
afford it to buy health insurance, or pay a penalty to the IRS. In essence, this is the part of the law that
pays for it all. This is also the section many Republicans hate. In their philosophy, the government
cannot force someone to buy something they may or may not need. They argued that this law was
unconstitutional, and they sued in federal court to have the law nullified. There were three cases
overall: one from the states (Florida v. U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Svcs.), one from the federal
government (U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Svcs. v. Florida), and one from the National Federation
of Independent Business (Nat l Fed. of Independent Bus. v. Sebelius). Due to conflicting rulings from

Internet Protocol Is The Process Of Transmitting And...
Internet Protocol television (IPTV) is the process of transmitting and broadcasting television programs
through the Internet using Internet Protocol (IP). A broadband connection is used as the medium of
transmission for IPTV. Along consumers to tune in to their favorite programming when, where, and
how they want. Improving the user experience compared to a traditional television transmission such
as radio frequency broadcast, satellite broadcast and/or cable television.
When downloading a file from the Internet, the file doesn t travel in one big piece, as might be
expected. Instead, it s broken up into small pieces, known as packets sent to specific IP address, a
numeric address given to every computer on the Internet (194.66.82.11). Therefore every computer
has a unique identifying number known as an IP address much like houses and street address. The
Internet can be used for many things: sending emails, downloading files, making telephone calls VoIP
(Voice Over Internet Protocol), and now watching TV using IPTV.
Traditional TV programs are broadcasted through a rooftop antenna, satellite dish, phone line, coaxial
cable or fiber optic cable. With traditional linear programming someone else has decided what you can
watch on TV and when you can watch it, since certain programs come at certain times. As, channel
lineups have grown over the years, referring to Appendix A. Of all the channels in the lineup, selection

Summary Of Hard Times By Charles Dickens
Angelina Almanzar
ENGL 35701: 19th Century British Novel
Professor Elizabeth Weybright
27 June 2016
Utilitarianism in Hard Times
During the Victorian Era, many philosophers focused on utilitarian philosophy and ways of thinking,
choosing the best decisions and actions for their own self interest. In his novel, Hard Times, Charles
Dickens satirizes the English educational system, society, and economics, but most importantly,
through them, he criticizes the many abuses of utilitarianism. Many writers such as Bornali Nath
Dowerah and Ali Taghizadeh have done research on Dicken s work mostly focusing on utilitarianism
and its negative impacts on society especially on those of the lower class.
Charles Dickens, the most renowned social commentator of his time, criticized the ills of society as he
commiserates with those who were affected the most by social and economical abuses. According to
the article Charles Dickens as Social Commentator and Critic published on the Victorian Web
(www.victorianweb.org/authors/dickens/diniejko.html), Dickens was not only very successful in
exposing what was wrong with society, but also in exposing the ills of the utilitarian theory which at
the time rejected the human imagination or fancy. Utilitarianism is an ethical theory which as we may
know recommends ethical recommendations for everyday life, thus making hard decision making
easier for us. This theory mostly focuses on moral action, holding on to the belief that people s

Executive Officer At Huda Free Clinic
CEO at 22. I was thrown in the deep end, quite literally. Physicians, PAs, and nurses who were once
my mentors and supervisors, were now under my management. I felt blessed yet overwhelmed at my
new appointment as the chief executive officer at HUDA Free Clinic. I was suddenly expected to have
all of the answers, a seemingly tall order at a time when the clinic was forced to rediscover its niche in
light of the Affordable Care Act. I realized that undertaking this task would be a part of my
progression towards becoming a better and stronger person. It served as a crucible for this phase of my
life, that would prepare me for the journey ahead.
I found the need to reinvent HUDA Clinic as a whole, which entailed adapting its policies to the
changing landscape of healthcare. I learned quickly that I d need to broaden HUDA s vision, in that a
solely primary care clinic was no longer the answer. Rather, HUDA would need to offer those services
that continue to remain inaccessible and unaffordable. Working alongside physicians, I was able to
expand our dental clinic, and introduced psychiatry and podiatry services. I recruited more volunteer
physicians, enabling us to expand our services. Today, the organization is able to serve a considerably
larger underserved and underinsured population.
I consider myself fortunate to have had experiences that I could only dream of. They have enabled me
to develop a mindset of progression and growth. My responsibilities in managing a free

What Is Agreed Value?
In agreed value insurance policies, you are in control of the amount your classic motorcycle is insured
for with your provider. Once the amount is chosen, then your premium payments will be based on the
figure you and your insurance provider agreed to.
An agreed value policy reduces the risk of you not being able to rebuild or replace your classic

Exclusionary Rule Pros And Cons
The Exclusionary rule, as defined in our Criminal Justice Book: 7e, is the principle that illegally
obtained evidence must be excluded from trial. If any evidence, that falls within the field of the
exclusionary rule, is found that would otherwise not have been found by law enforcements, the rule
applies to linked evidence found and all the evidence after. This after evidence is often referred as fruit
of the poisonous tree. The exclusionary rule is also looked at in a way to block law enforcement
officers from handling searches and/or seizures, a violation of the fourth amendment, possibly aiding
to defendants whose rights have been violated.
With the exclusionary rule comes a lot of critics who believe the Court s decisions allow criminals

John Kerry s Arab-Israeli Conflict
John Kerry is the current U.S. Secretary of State under President Barack Obama. He has made many
contributions to the conflict in the Middle East more commonly known as the Arab Israeli conflict.
John Kerry generally supports the Palestinian side of the conflict. But at times he has also expressed
support for Israel, who is also a U.S. ally, although some would say that he must pick one side to
support. In December of 2015, Kerry has said many times that he believes a two state resolution is the
only route to resolve the ongoing conflict and would allow both groups to control their own pieces of
land that they can each call official countries for their ethnic groups. In October of 2015, Kerry spoke
on the subject of keeping Palestinian authority. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ceasefire did not call for Hamas to stop the firing of rockets into Israel, although he has repeatedly
expressed his disapproval of all extremism, including Hamas attacks on Israel. But in December of
2014, he called for a two state solution, saying that it s the only path to peace for the simple reason
that there is no one state alternative .
In December of 2015, Kerry took a trip to Moscow, Russia, to discuss making progress towards peace.
His main goal was to narrow the differences between Russian President Vladimir Putin over the role
of Syrian President Bashar al Assad. Kerry applauded Russia s contributions to the fight for peace.
Kerry also asked for Russia s full participation in a February ceasefire in exchange for relief of

Israel has said that they disagree with Kerry s talks of peace in early 2015, saying the US will give up

sides, each member has their own point of view based on a plethora of statistics. These statistics
include but are not limited to, socio economic classes, race, geographical boundaries, gender, etc.
When two cultures interact for the first time there is bound to be some discrepancies over what truly
occurred. These discrepancies are portrayed quite well through Bernal Diaz s The Conquest of New

similarities, but at the same time they showed even more metamorphoses, making it nearly impossible

However, in the account told by the Aztec s, [The Spaniards] ran everywhere; they invaded every

immense renditions of the true intention of the Spaniards. Yet another significant difference is the
intention of the Spaniards. In Diaz s story he claimed, ...that in coming to see and speak with such a

technology has a similar effect on the world now. Has technology began to shape our worlds reality?
Technology will only have a negative impact on education because of digital amnesia, students not

Connectivism is a new theory for the digital time that presents a model of learning that acknowledges
the tectonic shifts in society, (Manera) allowing us to use current technology to be able to learn. New
information is being discovered daily and having the ability to see it instantly can be helpful. Being
able to distinguish important and unimportant information is a necessary skill. Although I understand
that having access to unlimited knowledge is simple, it doesn t mean we learn what we read. Knowing
that knowledge is literally at your fingertips, (Pariser) can be an overwhelming. Students could take
advantage of that opportunity or be too overpowered to know how to use it. This is why technology in
learning is a bad idea; students will not know what to do with unlimited access to the internet.
In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, he says This book is a warning. It is a reminder that what we have

with the internet. We are taking advantage of everything the internet has to offer. If technology was to
be banned, would we make it? Could we adjust? Our dependability on the internet makes us
vulnerable to the world. Do we believe everything we read? Do we stop to question if it is truthful?

Analysis Of Anselm Kiefer s Burning Rods
The painting Burning Rods, made by Anselm Kiefer is very interesting all the way around from the
materials that are being used to the message it gives. At first glance of this artwork, it looks like a
piece of trash on a canvas because what the media it has on it. This painting is made up of oil, acrylic
emulsion, and shellac on canvas with lead, copper wire, straw, iron, and ceramic (STL). This is a very
interesting combination of media with a finished result of a texture and flaky looking painting with a
gold and black coloring. In the center of the painting, there are some columns. This artwork like other
major artworks has some elements that help the artist with the message. History is one of the elements
that help with understanding why he created this artwork in the first place. Anselm Kiefer was born in
1945 in Donaueschingen, Germany, and he attended the School of Fine Arts at Freiburg in Breisgau
and the Art Academy in Karlsruhe. His work has been shown in museums all over the

Intersectionality Essay
Women s history is a history of oppression. Throughout time, women have faced systematic
domination, which has ultimately informed women s identities and shaped their roles in society.
However, the oppression of women is not uniform and different groups of women have experienced
sexist oppression to different degrees and in vastly different ways. This is largely due to
intersectionality, which is the idea that the convergence and interaction of various oppressed aspects of
one s identity uniquely affect individuals and social systems. As Kimberlé Crenshaw discusses in
Intersectionality and Identity Politics: Learning from Violence Against Women of Color , women of
color are situated in such a way that they belong to at least two subjugated groups. Their particular
position exemplifies intersectionality because they are victims of overlapping patterns of sexism and
racism, leaving them completely marginalized. Furthermore, intersectionality highlights the
interconnectedness and multiplicity of oppression in society. In her essay Intersectionality is a Big
Fancy Word for My Life , Mia Mingus explains how the oppressed can also contribute to oppression.
This concept in culmination with discrepancies in discrimination within communities leads to a
fraught and complex dynamic that has lasting impacts. Societies must recognize intersectionality in
women history in order to fully comprehend and rectify the oppression of today.

The Leadership Of A Global Society

Leadership in a Global Society
Fall 2015
Culture was and always going to be alive, it never dies. However, today is different, culture is
spreading rapidly, and it became vital to acknowledge at least the basics of each culture. Due to
multiplicity of cultures within societies, not any leader could lead a group of followers, but only
prototype leaders who are needed to lead diverse organizations nowadays. Leadership becomes
difficult; it requires awareness of one s culture and skills to navigate within several cultures.
Immigrants migrates every day to a new country, marketing is becoming internationally advertised,
technology, media, all of these aspects changed the way life used to be seen. Today, it is
unprofessional for leaders to not acknowledge a little background of their followers, or at least to be
aware of what is their basic values. Therefore, for leaders to be successful in maintaining a good
relation with their followers in today s diverse society and in reaching success for their companies, I
believe that they must be characterized by five major qualities. Farsighted, collaborative, inspirational,
humble and respectful are the prototype qualities whom leaders must be portrayed as in a diverse
society.
Surely one of the common goals between leaders is success. And success cannot be reached in the
absence of Leaders farsightedness and wisdom. Regardless of how

Essay Lester Little, Anger in Monastic Cursing
In Lester Little s, Anger in Monastic Curses, we see how, through liturgical cursing, monks can
express a form of anger that is acceptable and appropriate for monastic culture. This form of anger
does not undermine monks religious status in the feuding and vengeful culture of this time. Liturgical
cursing is used to formulate emotions of anger in a way that is appropriate for monastic culture to
participate in. In Aelred of Rievaulx s, Spiritual Friendship, we see a similar scenario in which Aelred
seeks to find an appropriate form of friendship for monks to engage in, apart from the not virtuous
version that aristocratic culture practices. Both forms of anger and friendship seek to not undermine
monastic culture and status. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Aelred does believe that friendship does exist in monastic culture, as well as all cultures, he
seeks to find an appropriate version of friendship. Aelred explains, Now the spiritual, which we call
true friendship, is desired not with an eye to any worldly profit or for any extraneous reason, but for its
own natural worth and for the emotion of the human heart, so that its fruit and reward is nothing but
itself (Aelred, 64). In this passage, Aelred explains how spiritual friendship is the purest and only
acceptable form of friendship for monastic culture. He describes that friendship should be for no other
purpose than for the use of human connection, expecting nothing material in return from a friend.
When introducing this concept, Aelred seeks to provide a new type of friendship, for monks, that is
separate from the aristocratic, carnal and worldly, friendships that are not virtuous and thus
unacceptable in monastic culture. In Lester Little s, Anger in Monastic Curses, Little seeks to form an
appropriate form of anger in monastic culture. Like Aelred, Little rejects anger in its current form
practiced in medieval culture as being appropriate for monks. In medieval culture, feuding and
vengeance is the acceptable way for people to express anger, however, for monks, this is not virtuous.

Research Paper On Dog Park
Will a dog park be a postive addition to Muscatine, or will it be a negative addition? This is the
question currently being asked. Both sides of the party make a very good argument. From it being a
postive way for dogs to let out their energy and socialize, to it being a negative disruption for tax
payers and surrounding residents of the dog park. My personal opinion is the dog park should be
contructed, and here are some supporting reasons why.
As stated in the first passage, dogs need to be socialized with other dogs to be a good dog at home and
outside of its home. If a dog is not properly socialized it can easily lead to a aggressive or reserved
dog. At home i have a dog of my own which whom I adopted from a shelter. When I first attained him
he was very shy and skittish, especially around other dogs. However after taking him to our local dog
park and into different stores that allow your dog to accompany you, his behavior started to change.
He slowly started to become less shy and now wants to play with every dog he sees. If dogs have a
place to socialize, this will then lead to less of them in the shelter which will also lead to less money
taken from taxes we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

paragraph four of the Dog Park Benefits All passage, it states a dog park would mean less people
letting their dogs loose in empty lots and parks. I belive that people letting their dogs run loose in un
prohibited places makes much more of a disturbance. You dont want to go to park to relax and be
disturbed by dogs running around and barking. Nor do you want to come home to find someone has
let their dog run around in your apartments parking lot. If a dog park was built, most people would
take their dogs there. This would let you have the chance to avoid them and the noises they

Nature Or Nurture Is The Cause For Criminal Behavior
No one can be certain whether nature or nurture is the cause for criminal behavior. However, research
has stated that it is more often an interaction between genes and the environment that predicts criminal
behavior (Jones, 2005). Through a biological perspective, it is determined that criminal behavior is
due to genetics and/or neurological conducts. It concludes that criminals are born due to their criminal
traits being passed down through genetic or chromosomal mutation. Another explanation of criminal
behavior within the biological perspective are the neurochemicals within our brains and body. There
many regulated chemicals in the brain that determines thought process, perception and action. Like the
arguments for genetic and chromosomal mutation, any abnormal anomalies or chemical imbalance can
heavily impact behavior (Schram, 2018). This goes for any damages to some parts of the brain that
controls emotions, reason and logic. Problems with the biological perspective are the following: 1. It
provide little explanations for a small of minority of offenders with specific conditions (Levitt, 2013).
2. Disregard the effect of environmental influences and life experiences that also impact behavior. 3.
Since criminality is based on biology, it is unchangeable, therefore, no one is to be blamed for their
actions. Lastly, 4. Famous studies on biological factors of criminality (ex: the twin, family and
adoption studies) maintained an intertwined relationship with social

Navajo Indian Tribe Research Paper
Navajo Indian Tribe Are Native Americans from the Southwestern United States. They are one of the
largest tribes of American Indians in the world. They lived in the Southwest areas that are today
known as New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. Their Navajo came from the Spanish who called
them the Apaches of Navajo. They called themselves Dine or the People . I chose to write about the
Navajo Indians Tribes because I would like to learn more about them. The Navajo s lived in domed
shaped houses with a wood frames called Hogan s with walls made of clay. The doors always faced
east so they could see the sun rise. The Navajo were farmers who grew the three main crops that many
Native Americans grew: beans, corn, and squash. The Navajo began to farm sheep and goats as well
when the Spanish arrived in the 1600 s, with sheep becoming a major source of meat. They also
hunted animals like deer and rabbits for food. They made dishes like mutton stew, fried cornbread, and
even grilled prairie dog. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

demand and can still be quite expensive. In the olden days of the Navajo, the arts and crafts were
divided between men and women. Women wove blankets and made clay pots while the men made

fact of the matter is that no one has an obvious way of knowing how someone s day has gone, or

There is a very strong correlation between race and poverty. There have been many studies that have
explored the relationship between poverty and quality implementation. A principal that participated in
a study summed up the effects of poverty eloquently stated, The students don t have school supplies.
Some don t have clothing appropriate for the weather. Some don t have a place in their home that s
well lit. Very few have their very own books. When it rains, if their sneakers get wet, they don t have
another pair of shoes to wear to school the next day. Poverty is the pits, I mean, it s terrible (Cooper,
1998).
In past studies the responses from teachers, principals, and district personnel in interviews, however,
produced unanticipated findings regarding the relationship of poverty and quality implementation. The
data suggest that regardless of the additional social and cultural barriers that high poverty schools
encounter in implementing school wide reform, school poverty level does not appear to obstruct the
application method. Although high levels of poverty do create exclusive challenges to the effective
replication and scaling up of programs in areas such as parental involvement, student mobility,
attendance rates, quality of instruction, and basic implementing the program (Cooper, 1998).

The Flea, By Andrew Marvell
John Donne s, The Flea, and Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress are persuasive poem in which the
speaker is attempting to establish a sexual union with his significant other. These poems is spoken by
a male lover to his female beloved as an attempt to convince her to sleep with him. John Donne and
Marvell brings out and shapes this meaning through his collective use of conceit, rhythm, and rhyme
scheme. The basic theme of the poems is the speaker s need to turn his coy mistress into a willing
mistress .
Donne uses the flea as a conceit, to represent a sexual union with his significant other. Marvell using
his way with words to convince his lover to a sexual union. In the first stanza in The Flea, a flea bites

Women Leaving Her Husband Analysis
Butler explains to her readers the ample reasons why wives of the medieval time period would decide
to leave their husbands. In fact, on page 338 of her article, Butler writes, The goal of this paper is to
provide a more comprehensive perspective of husband desertion, including the risks involved in
deserting one s husband, the wife s motivations, and the logistics of desertion (Butler 338). She begins
her article with some background information in hopes to enlighten her readers that at this point in
history, men had all the power in any marriage. Following the brief history of the misogyny found in
medieval marriages, Butler uses the rest of her article to explain to her readers the trials and
tribulations these wives had to go through, the risk of others knowing she wanted to leave, and what
made the wives want to leave at all. Butler first chooses to explain what the risks were when a wife
left her husband during the medieval era. Due to the misogyny found in medieval marriages, if a
woman decided to leave her husband, she had to be well aware of the consequences that would follow.
For instance, Butler points out to her audience that if a woman decided to leave her husband, then
must live with the label of adulteress. This label guarantees that this woman would never be able to

The Battle Of The Soldiers
The three Soldiers were able to make it to the coast, they had taken a route that took them around the
Marines and 82nd Airborne, while making note of their numbers, vehicles and weapons. They were
surprised to find them there, with Second Brigade no place in sight. They entered Baltimore from the
north and headed South East, they found much of the city sparse with life, they had found some
civilians that had told them of the Supreme General and her Army and how they were defeated. The
Soldiers again, found themselves surprised, they were told stories of fighter aircraft coming out of
nowhere, and destroying the main base. They were also told of the mighty shells that came in and
destroyed the Supreme Generals compound. Following the aircraft and shells came the Marines,
fighting anyone that stood in their way, taking back the city. The people they spoke with told them not
to get them wrong, they were happy with the actions of the Marines, they cleared out most of the
gangs or ran them off. Life had been easier and safer since they came. They also told the three
Soldiers that several hundred Marines remained in the city and were securing the port and refineries.
That the Marines were being supplemented by the Army, they thought they heard the 82nd Airborne

coast, one was an aircraft carrier, which the Soldiers found hard to believe. The civilians told them

To be sincere I never thought about it. What is the appendix?
The appendix is a pouch the size of a finger part of the large intestine and placed in the lower right
abdomen. It is not yet fully understood its operation, although some theories suggest that it plays a
secondary role in the immune system, is the widespread view that it is totally unnecessary. The
removal of the appendix does not seem to have any effect on a person s health. What causes
appendicitis? Obstruction of the lumen (the inside of the Appendix) can cause appendicitis. The mucus
produced recedes into the lumen causing the multiplication of bacteria normally found in the
appendix. The consequence is that the appendix swells and becomes infected.
Sources of obstruction can be: feces, parasites, abnormal growth of the lymphatic tissue (for example
due to the Crohn s disease), foreign bodies or stones (grapes, cherries, peppers) tumors. An inflamed
appendix probably burst if not removed. Bursting would spread the infection throughout the abdomen,
causing peritonitis.
To whom it may happen? All subjects can be appendicitis, but is most common in people between 10
and 30 years of age.
What are the symptoms of appendicitis? Most people with appendicitis classic symptoms that any
doctor can easily identify. The main symptom is abdominal pain, usually sudden, often inducing a
person to wake up at night: you hear

The Magician s Nephew Research Paper
The Magician s Nephew The Magician s Nephew is an amazing story written by C.S.Lewis. He was a
famous writer,
and he wrote the Chronicles of Narnia. These books are based of the Bible, and Aslan, a strong

about God and Aslan.
Aslan has many similarities with God. In the Magician s Nephew, Aslan created everything in
Narnia (Lewis 123). God created the Earth and everything it contained (Genesis 1). They both
created and rule over the worlds. (Lewis 9 10), (Whole Bible). Another trait they both have is
they are merciful (Lewis 12 13) (Bible).

them, they came into his world (Lewis 11).
Now the viewpoint, and the answer for me is yes, I do believe Aslan is God. One reason I
believe is that there is actually a song that sings God is like a lion, (Newsboys song). I also
believe this because in The Magician s Nephew Aslan quotes, You know better than you think

Hitcher, Education For Leisure, My Last Duchess, and The Lab
Hitcher, Education For Leisure, My Last Duchess, and The Lab
Hitcher By Simon Armitage, Education For Leisure By Carol Anne
Duffy, My Last Duchess and The Lab by Robert Browning are all poems that deal with violence or the
prospect of violence.
Hitcher is a poem about a man who is angry at being threatened with the sack, he picks up a hitch
hiker and kills him and then leaves him on the road side. The poetic voice seems to be psychotic and
also talks about the attack in a casual manner.
Ed for Leisure also deals with a bitter person who feels he has been let down by society. As he

Simple and direct language is used by Armitage to demonstrate the characters casual attitude to
violence. It is also used in Ed for Leisure to help create the short staccato lines such as Today I am
going to kill something. Anything.
Both poems by Robert Browning are dramatic monologues, The Lab is a mixture of the main
characters thoughts and her words to the apothecary. She seems very similar to the main characters in
both Ed for Leisure and Hitcher as an insane twisted side of her character is exposed...
The lady in The Laboratory is plotting to murder the mistress of her lover and seems very excited
about the prospect of death. In asking the apothecary, Wot that I bid you spare her the pain; she shows
that she wants her victim to die slowly and painfully. This demonstrates a craving for violence like the
characters in Armitage and Duffy s poems. As well as sharing the structure of a dramatic monologue,
The Lab is also arranged in stanzas like the previous two poems and contains rhyme like Hitcher . The
second poem by Robert
Browning is called My Last Duchess like the other 3 poems it is a dramatic monologue and shares the
same rhyme scheme as The Lab . The poetic voice talks about how his wife was too flirtatious and
how it was not only him that brought smiles to her face. After a while, he grew tired of not being
appreciated, gave orders and her smile stopped all together.

Babylonian Exile Essay
Prophets of Zion and the Babylonian Exile In ancient Jewish culture, prophets were a part of every
day life. They proclaimed what they understood to be God s word, and lived according to it. In times
of crisis, prophets were even more present, to warn and give consolation to the people. One time
period in which there were many prophets was the Babylonian Exile, where the people of Judah were
taken and deported to live in Babylon. Of the books of the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah, Isaiah 63:7

Also, the following chapters have a citation from Is 11:6 9 and other traditions that supposedly do not
belong to what has been gathered and suggested as the Isaiah of the post exilic Judean society
(Bergant, 1042).
As stated earlier and quoted from the passage itself, the Jeremian passage was written during the
Babylonian exile and deals with that current situation. It begins with God directly addressing his
exiled people, and goes on to tell them what he plans for them. But seek the welfare of the city where I
have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your
welfare For thus says the Lord: Only when Babylon s seventy years are completed will I visit you,
and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place. For surely I know the plans I
have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope
(Jer 29:8,10,11).
It is important to note the fact that after his initial acknowledgement of God s gracious deeds and
praiseworthy acts, Isaiah s confidence in God deteriorated and not once throughout the rest of the
passage did he regain any of it. The prayer is a communal lament, but disorganized in such a way that
it adds a feeling of desperation (Mays 889). It could be said that the whole prayer

During childhood the main occupational role is play. As children are assigned chores and other

Therefore, as children begin to explore and play they re beginning to recognize their environment,

Diluted EPS = (net income preferred dividends) / (weighted average number of common shares
outstanding + increment in common shares)
Since there is not enough information to calculate the increment in common shares, the diluted EPS
cannot be proved in this case.
6. Explain the earnings per share amount that you would recommend an investor should use to
evaluate the company.
(page 66) I would recommend an investor use the diluted EPS. For investors, it is important to value
the business assuming all possible dilution that can take place will take place. According to the 10 K,
the amount of exercised stock option is quite large annually, which means the increment in common
shares is considerable. Using the diluted EPS will help the investor to evaluate the Company in a big
picture.
7. How much would the diluted earnings per share be if the stock price were high enough to make all
the stock options in the money. Assume that the exercise price of all stock options is $2 less that the
average market price for 2011.
(page 66 67) According to the 10 K, the exercise price is 22.59 per share, so we can conclude that the
average market price is 24.59.
The shares issued from assumed exercise = 81104.6 + 5234.3 = 86338.9 thousand

Plywood Garage Research Paper
The plywood siding bottom by the base plate of the wood frame on the west, east and south side of the
garage is completely rotted and is separated from the base plate. Furthermore, some of the wooden
studs are also damaged by termites. On the west side, the wood frame around the small wooden door,
and the door itself, is rotted and termite damaged. The soffit over the small door is also severely
rotted. In addition, all the wall studs on the south side wall are completely destroyed by termites.
These studs on the south wall have no load bearing capacity and are a major cause of the structural
failure of the garage. Regardless of any wind event, it is only a matter of time before the garage
structure would collapse due to the termite damage

The Pros And Cons Of Israel s Occupation Of Gaza And West...
Little did Israel know that the Six Day War would turn into a fifty year occupation of Gaza and the
West Bank? During this occupation the Israeli Government placed settlement and settlers in the
disputed territory for the purpose of keeping a buffer between Israel and the Palestinians as well as
using the settlements and settlers as a means to keeping Gaza and the West Bank. During 2005 the
Israeli government began removing settlers and turning the land back over to the Palestinian s with the
thought that holding on to it had become too big of a problem and it had become to taxing to the
Israeli government (Monitor, 2015).
With the peace process stalled Israel would best serve its National interests by leaving the settlers and
settlements in Gaza and the West Bank. Without a Palestinian peace deal the financial cost and man
hours and loss of strategic lands would leave them more vulnerable to Palestinian attack.
By staying they can keep the status quo and to a degree keep the Palestinian s in ... Show more content

Without a Palestinian peace deal the financial cost and man hours and loss of strategic lands would
leave them more vulnerable to Palestinian attack. The Israeli s began moving out of settlements in
Gaza and West Bank but abruptly reversed course in 2000 after violence broke out again. Many road
blocks have arisen which have made it more difficult for the Israeli s to believe that the two parties
will ever come to a peace agreement. 60% percent of Israeli s believe that Israel should relinquish the
West Bank and Gaza. Even though that number is high many Israeli s believe that Israel would be
relinquishing land that were promised to their people in the Bible. With all things considered Israel
could best serve its interest by remaining in the disputed lands until an expectable peace plan is
completed. There are no guarantees for peace without it (Monitor,

Adapting Culture Shock By Noah Webster
Mannat Shukla
Dr. Andrea Bell
English 202
07 December 2014 Adapting To Culture Shock
According to Noah Webster, Culture means the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a
racial, religious, or social group also the characteristic features of everyday existence shared by people
in a place or time. When people accustomed to a particular culture enter a foreign land with different
practice, they are bound to experience cultural shock. Culture shock is personal incomprehension a
person may feel or experience when in an unfamiliar culture or way of life as a result of a visit to a
new place or immigration. It is most prominent among immigrants. As Paul Pederson has mentioned
in his book, It is a process that an individual undergoes in experiencing a new environment; it can be
categorized into five stages, the honeymoon stage, the disintegration stage, the reintegration stage, the
autonomy stage and the interdependence stage. And according to John J. Macionis and Linda Gerber,
The common problems associated with it are language barrier, generation gap, homesickness,
information overload, boredom, technology gap and cultural response ability among many others.
Cultural differences affect individuals differently. Therefore, there is no definite way of preventing
culture shock. Jhumpa Lahiri in her work The Namesake very beautifully depicts the journey of

Box Trailers
Before spending your hard earned money on box trailers for sale, it is necessary to consider several
important factors, including a trailer meeting your requirement, size and cost. You may face several
other types of problems while selecting the perfect trailer matching your needs. In addition, when you
will be exploring the market in search of box trailers for sale, you may come across different types of
trailers that could leave you more confused.
You will make the right decision only if you have knowledge about all kinds of trailers or there s an
expert with you. In addition to that, you must be aware of places where you could get the best box
trailers at cost effective prices. If this is leading to confusion, here s a guide that may help you in
searching for the perfect box trailer for your requirement:
Why to Buy a New Trailer? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You should ask yourself if you are ready to stop using the current trailer and look for the new. Start
your search only if you are sure about the new purchase. In addition to that, figure out what purposes
your new trailer is going to serve. Decide what should be its towing capacity and how long you will
need it. Decide New or Old?
Box trailers are perfect equipment pieces to have, but it is also necessary to figure out how much you
could spend on them. You could decide this by determining if you need the trailer for long run, or for a
short time. In addition to that, you could check both new and old trailers to know about materials used
to create them. A trailer with good material will last for a long time, even if it is second hand. While
looking for used trailers, you may come across trailers that are still under warranty. It is good to spend
on them as they could help you in saving some bucks with the warranty for some more years.

Terry Moore How To Tie Your Shoes Rhetorical Devices
Student Name Stille College Prep Writing: Rhetorical Analysis 15 Dec. 2017 Creative title only add
quotation marks if it is not an original title Terry Moore presented a Technology, Education, Design
(TED) Talk in May of 2011 entitled How to Tie Your Shoes. During which, he humorously explained
the best way to tie one s shoes to a group of highly intelligent individuals. He displayed the age old
ways of how to tie shoes, and shows why his way is the best. Moore tries to show everyone that the
processes people do every day have the possibility to be improved. Moore does a fantastic job
delivering information about a seemingly silly topic, tying one s shoes, through his own personal
experiences and the informal words he used during his speech. Moore was able to legitimize the
subject of his speech by admitting that he had also been tying his shoes wrong for the majority of his
lifetime. In the speech Moore said, I know this sounds ludicrous. And believe me; I lived the same sad
life until about three years ago. This shows that Moore, like the audience he is trying to reach, also did
not know how to tie his shoes the correct way. Explaining that he did not know how to tie his shoes
correctly, but now does, legitimizes himself as speaker on the subject. This allows him to be an
appropriate presenter to such an elite group of people. This is helpful because trying to explain that
these extremely intelligent people are performing an everyday task completely wrong is no

Roman Wine In Greek Culture
During the time of Greek and Roman civilizations, cultivated wine prevailed as a symbol of social
status and religious activities. Throughout both civilizations, wine became the equivalent of wealth
and social sophistication, and dominated in what was considered to be civilized atmospheres.
However, in Roman culture they believed wine represented social differentiation while the Greeks saw
it as the epitome of equality. Wine is a drink that encompasses all cultures and has been respected by
many societies. In the second millennium BCE, wine became prominent in the Greek and Roman
civilizations. It was extensively used in both cultures to delineate social distinctions. In the beginning,
only the wealthy could afford this expensive drink. However as trade and supply expanded, social
divisions were shortly based on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the popularity of wine grew in Greece, they dedicated their farmlands to vineyards. Wine became a
form of wealth to the Greeks since it was such a valuable crop that people paid a lot of money for.
Specifically in the sixth century BCE, the property owning classes in Athens were categorized
according to their vineyard holdings. The lowest class had less acres than the higher classes. Likewise
in Rome, wine was used as mark of wealth of the drinker. The divergence between the rich class and
the lower class was reflected by the wine contents in their goblets. Case in point, the more wealth a
Roman was, the greater their ability to recognize and name the finest wines were. In addition, both
civilizations used wine as a mark of social sophistication. For the Greeks, wine drinking correlated
closely to refinement and civilization. The type of wine chosen

When I was young, my mother read a book to me every day until I was old enough to read by myself. She would purchase English and I would read them to the best of my ability. This is how I began teaching myself English. I came to the United States at the age of five years old because of all the violence, and was able to because of my status as a Canadian citizen. The court assigned my aunt legal guardianship of me, the reason being that it was not a safe choice for me to go back to Haiti, I became active in the U.S and attended school. I am driven by my ambitions and thrive to learn not only to educate myself, but to use my knowledge to educate others. Learning is not always associated with school; we learn things through experiences, mistakes, life lessons, people around us, and most importantly ourselves. In life I aspire to become a neurosurgeon like Dr. Ben Carson who has truly inspired me in various ways, and have what is called Healing Hands . My favorite quote is from his mother, You can do anything anybody else can do, except you can do it better. I carry these words with me every single day, with ever decision I make. One of my main goals in life is to visit Africa and build schools and manage a hospital so children in the area will receive a proper education, as well as a proper care. Through my own experience, I can truly say that life in a developing country is very challenging and I believe that these children deserve, as well as anyone else, the chance to learn in order to be successful in the future. This audacious path, which I have chosen, involves a great deal of learning and I know that I am most ready to do what is necessary for my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Handy, fresh from her previous position as chief executive officer of the University of Virginia Investment Management Company (UVIMCO), had 25 years of experience managing money and a track record of success. She also found herself involved in fundraising efforts when donations to UVa s capital campaign involved life trusts. During the 1990s, as state support of higher education dwindled, endowment funds took on increasing importance for UVa and other public universities. Handy s position was restructured to enable her to dedicate more time to the investment side. The previously lowkey staff and endowment both grew rapidly as Handy s team began conducting proprietary research. Soon nearly a dozen investment professionals and five accounting and administrative staff members were managing the endowment. In 2003, after 29 years with the university, Handy determined it was time for a change. In July of that year, she announced her retirement as chief executive officer of UVIMCO, leaving behind a healthy endowment and a strong record of performance. UVIMCO s asset allocation had changed considerably during Handy s tenure, and the endowment had enjoyed strong performance (Exhibits 1 and 2). UVa s endowment had generated an average annual return of more than 13% since Handy s arrival and it had grown to almost $2 billion in market value (Exhibit 3). • 4. Ethical Framework In Teleological Framework A case study was done on the closing of a textile manufacturing company in North Carolina, which decided to relocate the business to another country. The decision to transfer was based on the fact that the company would generate more revenue at a lower cost. However, the proponents of such a move were based on an ethical teleological framework decision. However, an ethical leader has certain qualities that are needed to build trust and develop sustainable relationships amongst numerous stakeholders (Eisenbeils Brodbeck, 2014). According to the reading in Unit V, the proponents and decision to move the textile company to Southeast Asia are based on the teleological framework. Also, to understand why this move is considered to be ethical, we must look at the meaning of teleological framework. Teleological is based on one s consequences of action; nevertheless, these results of interests are those that affect the individuals directly. Additionally, teleological ethics determines the value of a moral action or a moral life result from that action or life; consequently, philosophies within teleological ethics are also known as consequentialist ethical theories (Kocyigit Karadag, 2016). Further, the leader is also in favor of utilitarianism, whereas they can find themselves confronting undecidable dilemmas for which making a particular decision becomes almost random (Farmer, 2015). The NY Times reports that, At least a dozen medical experts probed the President [Garfield] s wound, often with unsterilized metal instruments or bare hands, as was common at the time. Since insurance companies are required to provide care, it makes sense to buy insurance only when you need it. In other words, wait until you get sick to buy insurance, because they cannot turn you down. In order to combat this, the law includes an individual mandate, which requires anyone that can afford it to buy health insurance, or pay a penalty to the IRS. In essence, this is the part of the law that pays for it all. This is also the section many Republicans hate. In their philosophy, the government cannot force someone to buy something they may or may not need. They argued that this law was unconstitutional, and they sued in federal court to have the law nullified. There were three cases overall: one from the states (Florida v. Internet Protocol television (IPTV) is the process of transmitting and broadcasting television programs through the Internet using Internet Protocol (IP). Improving the user experience compared to a traditional television transmission such as radio frequency broadcast, satellite broadcast and/or cable television. • 8. Summary Of Hard Times By Charles Dickens Angelina Almanzar ENGL 35701: 19th Century British Novel Professor Elizabeth Weybright 27 June 2016 Utilitarianism in Hard Times During the Victorian Era, many philosophers focused on utilitarian philosophy and ways of thinking, choosing the best decisions and actions for their own self interest. In his novel, Hard Times, Charles Dickens satirizes the English educational system, society, and economics, but most importantly, through them, he criticizes the many abuses of utilitarianism. Many writers such as Bornali Nath Dowerah and Ali Taghizadeh have done research on Dicken s work mostly focusing on utilitarianism and its negative impacts on society especially on those of the lower class. Charles Dickens, the most renowned social commentator of his time, criticized the ills of society as he commiserates with those who were affected the most by social and economical abuses. According to the article Charles Dickens as Social Commentator and Critic published on the Victorian Web (www.victorianweb.org/authors/dickens/diniejko.html), Dickens was not only very successful in exposing what was wrong with society, but also in exposing the ills of the utilitarian theory which at the time rejected the human imagination or fancy. Physicians, PAs, and nurses who were once my mentors and supervisors, were now under my management. I felt blessed yet overwhelmed at my new appointment as the chief executive officer at HUDA Free Clinic. I was suddenly expected to have all of the answers, a seemingly tall order at a time when the clinic was forced to rediscover its niche in light of the Affordable Care Act. I realized that undertaking this task would be a part of my progression towards becoming a better and stronger person. It served as a crucible for this phase of my life, that would prepare me for the journey ahead. I found the need to reinvent HUDA Clinic as a whole, which entailed adapting its policies to the changing landscape of healthcare. I learned quickly that I d need to broaden HUDA s vision, in that a solely primary care clinic was no longer the answer. Rather, HUDA would need to offer those services that continue to remain inaccessible and unaffordable. Working alongside physicians, I was able to expand our dental clinic, and introduced psychiatry and podiatry services. I recruited more volunteer physicians, enabling us to expand our services. This painting is made up of oil, acrylic emulsion, and shellac on canvas with lead, copper wire, straw, iron, and ceramic (STL). • 18. Intersectionality Essay Women s history is a history of oppression. Throughout time, women have faced systematic domination, which has ultimately informed women s identities and shaped their roles in society. However, the oppression of women is not uniform and different groups of women have experienced sexist oppression to different degrees and in vastly different ways. This is largely due to intersectionality, which is the idea that the convergence and interaction of various oppressed aspects of one s identity uniquely affect individuals and social systems. As Kimberlé Crenshaw discusses in Intersectionality and Identity Politics: Learning from Violence Against Women of Color , women of color are situated in such a way that they belong to at least two subjugated groups. Their particular position exemplifies intersectionality because they are victims of overlapping patterns of sexism and racism, leaving them completely marginalized. Furthermore, intersectionality highlights the interconnectedness and multiplicity of oppression in society. In her essay Intersectionality is a Big Fancy Word for My Life , Mia Mingus explains how the oppressed can also contribute to oppression. This concept in culmination with discrepancies in discrimination within communities leads to a fraught and complex dynamic that has lasting impacts. • 19. The Leadership Of A Global Society Youssef Aguisoul Prototype Leaders within Diversity Kennesaw State University Leadership in a Global Society Fall 2015 Culture was and always going to be alive, it never dies. However, today is different, culture is spreading rapidly, and it became vital to acknowledge at least the basics of each culture. Due to multiplicity of cultures within societies, not any leader could lead a group of followers, but only prototype leaders who are needed to lead diverse organizations nowadays. Leadership becomes difficult; it requires awareness of one s culture and skills to navigate within several cultures. Immigrants migrates every day to a new country, marketing is becoming internationally advertised, technology, media, all of these aspects changed the way life used to be seen. Today, it is unprofessional for leaders to not acknowledge a little background of their followers, or at least to be aware of what is their basic values. Therefore, for leaders to be successful in maintaining a good relation with their followers in today s diverse society and in reaching success for their companies, I believe that they must be characterized by five major qualities. Farsighted, collaborative, inspirational, humble and respectful are the prototype qualities whom leaders must be portrayed as in a diverse society. Surely one of the common goals between leaders is success. And success cannot be reached in the absence of Leaders farsightedness and wisdom. Regardless of how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Essay Lester Little, Anger in Monastic Cursing In Lester Little s, Anger in Monastic Curses, we see how, through liturgical cursing, monks can express a form of anger that is acceptable and appropriate for monastic culture. This form of anger does not undermine monks religious status in the feuding and vengeful culture of this time. Liturgical cursing is used to formulate emotions of anger in a way that is appropriate for monastic culture to participate in. In Aelred of Rievaulx s, Spiritual Friendship, we see a similar scenario in which Aelred seeks to find an appropriate form of friendship for monks to engage in, apart from the not virtuous version that aristocratic culture practices. Both forms of anger and friendship seek to not undermine monastic culture and status. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Aelred does believe that friendship does exist in monastic culture, as well as all cultures, he seeks to find an appropriate version of friendship. Aelred explains, Now the spiritual, which we call true friendship, is desired not with an eye to any worldly profit or for any extraneous reason, but for its own natural worth and for the emotion of the human heart, so that its fruit and reward is nothing but itself (Aelred, 64). In this passage, Aelred explains how spiritual friendship is the purest and only acceptable form of friendship for monastic culture. He describes that friendship should be for no other purpose than for the use of human connection, expecting nothing material in return from a friend. When introducing this concept, Aelred seeks to provide a new type of friendship, for monks, that is separate from the aristocratic, carnal and worldly, friendships that are not virtuous and thus unacceptable in monastic culture. In Lester Little s, Anger in Monastic Curses, Little seeks to form an appropriate form of anger in monastic culture. Like Aelred, Little rejects anger in its current form practiced in medieval culture as being appropriate for monks. In medieval culture, feuding and vengeance is the acceptable way for people to express anger, however, for monks, this is not virtuous. Little explains how liturgical cursing allows for monks to express anger in a way that does not undermine their religious status. Liturgical cursing, in simplest form, ... Both sides of the party make a very good argument. From it being a postive way for dogs to let out their energy and socialize, to it being a negative disruption for tax payers and surrounding residents of the dog park. My personal opinion is the dog park should be contructed, and here are some supporting reasons why. As stated in the first passage, dogs need to be socialized with other dogs to be a good dog at home and outside of its home. If a dog is not properly socialized it can easily lead to a aggressive or reserved dog. At home i have a dog of my own which whom I adopted from a shelter. When I first attained him he was very shy and skittish, especially around other dogs. However after taking him to our local dog park and into different stores that allow your dog to accompany you, his behavior started to change. However, research has stated that it is more often an interaction between genes and the environment that predicts criminal behavior (Jones, 2005). Through a biological perspective, it is determined that criminal behavior is due to genetics and/or neurological conducts. It concludes that criminals are born due to their criminal traits being passed down through genetic or chromosomal mutation. Another explanation of criminal behavior within the biological perspective are the neurochemicals within our brains and body. There many regulated chemicals in the brain that determines thought process, perception and action. Like the arguments for genetic and chromosomal mutation, any abnormal anomalies or chemical imbalance can heavily impact behavior (Schram, 2018). This goes for any damages to some parts of the brain that controls emotions, reason and logic. Problems with the biological perspective are the following: 1. It provide little explanations for a small of minority of offenders with specific conditions (Levitt, 2013). 2. Disregard the effect of environmental influences and life experiences that also impact behavior. 3. Since criminality is based on biology, it is unchangeable, therefore, no one is to be blamed for their actions. Lastly, 4. When shares of common stock are issued to satisfy the exercise of employee stock options, are the shares issued from the Company s authorized but previously unissued shares or from the Company s treasury stock ? Where in the financial statements do you find this information? (page 43 67) Basic EPS = (net income preferred dividends) / weighted average number of common shares outstanding = 1798.3/(754.6 109.8) = 2.8 Diluted EPS = (net income preferred dividends) / (weighted average number of common shares outstanding + increment in common shares) Since there is not enough information to calculate the increment in common shares, the diluted EPS cannot be proved in this case. 6. Explain the earnings per share amount that you would recommend an investor should use to evaluate the company. (page 66) I would recommend an investor use the diluted EPS. For investors, it is important to value the business assuming all possible dilution that can take place will take place. According to the 10 K, the amount of exercised stock option is quite large annually, which means the increment in common shares is considerable. Using the diluted EPS will help the investor to evaluate the Company in a big picture. 7. How much would the diluted earnings per share be if the stock price were high enough to make all the stock options in the money. Assume that the exercise price of all stock options is $2 less that the average market price for 2011. (page 66 67) According to the 10 K, the exercise price is 22.59 per share, so we can conclude that the average market price is 24.59. The shares issued from assumed exercise = 81104.6 + 5234.3 = 86338.9 thousand Shares

  • 46. The Pros And Cons Of Israel s Occupation Of Gaza And West... Little did Israel know that the Six Day War would turn into a fifty year occupation of Gaza and the West Bank? During this occupation the Israeli Government placed settlement and settlers in the disputed territory for the purpose of keeping a buffer between Israel and the Palestinians as well as using the settlements and settlers as a means to keeping Gaza and the West Bank. During 2005 the Israeli government began removing settlers and turning the land back over to the Palestinian s with the thought that holding on to it had become too big of a problem and it had become to taxing to the Israeli government (Monitor, 2015). With the peace process stalled Israel would best serve its National interests by leaving the settlers and settlements in Gaza and the West Bank. • 49. Terry Moore How To Tie Your Shoes Rhetorical Devices Student Name Stille College Prep Writing: Rhetorical Analysis 15 Dec. 2017 Creative title only add quotation marks if it is not an original title Terry Moore presented a Technology, Education, Design (TED) Talk in May of 2011 entitled How to Tie Your Shoes. During which, he humorously explained the best way to tie one s shoes to a group of highly intelligent individuals. He displayed the age old ways of how to tie shoes, and shows why his way is the best. Moore tries to show everyone that the processes people do every day have the possibility to be improved. Moore does a fantastic job delivering information about a seemingly silly topic, tying one s shoes, through his own personal experiences and the informal words he used during his speech. Moore was able to legitimize the subject of his speech by admitting that he had also been tying his shoes wrong for the majority of his lifetime. In the speech Moore said, I know this sounds ludicrous. And believe me; I lived the same sad life until about three years ago. This shows that Moore, like the audience he is trying to reach, also did not know how to tie his shoes the correct way. Explaining that he did not know how to tie his shoes correctly, but now does, legitimizes himself as speaker on the subject. This allows him to be an appropriate presenter to such an elite group of people. This is helpful because trying to explain that these extremely intelligent people are performing an everyday task completely wrong is no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
