2. Benefits Of A Successful Business
In order to have a successful business, businesses need to find a way to keep
employees motivated to do their jobs and increase work satisfaction. This is
undeniably crucial for a business to continue to be profitable. Some solutions to this
problem are incentives, having a good work environment, and showing appreciation.
When employees perform poorly by not doing their job or not doing their job well, it
reflects negatively on the business. Customers who are not satisfied, may complain
and may not return. Customers can also discourage others from going to that
particular establishment by telling their friends about their terrible experience. The
business then loses money from that customer and that customers friends who now do
business with the competition. That business may now have a bad reputation that
started from that one customer s negative experience (Deeb).
By keeping employees pleased and excited at their jobs, they tend to perform
better than those employees who are not please at their job. In an article written
by John Waggoner, he wrote, If a company treats its employees well, the business
should prosper.... So in other words, the business makes money if the employees
are pleased. Employees who are given incentive tend to perform better at their jobs
than people who do not receive incentive. Google is an example of a company that
is highly successful and is known for having generous benefits for their employees to
par take. The stock at Google has climbed
3. My Experience At The London, Oxford, And Dublin
The trip to London, Oxford, and Dublin taught me so much more than I ever
thought possible. The experience truly opened my eyes to global business, and made
a huge impact on my education. Coming into this semester at CU I wondered if
business really was the right career choice for me, but this trip changed my
perspective entirely and validated any previous doubts. The trip, most importantly,
proved that there are so many opportunities out there in the business world because
before this trip I had very little exposure to looking into business environments,
cultures, and interactions. The visits that we took to Google, Zayo, IMB, Barry
Callebaut, CBRE, and more far surpassed any of my expectations. The early morning

That initial visit opened my eyes to all the possibilities that lie ahead. Our previous
visit to Google in Boulder gave me a little insight on what it would be like, yet the
visit was still better than any of my expectations. Google was a great company to
start at, as it set high expectations for the rest of the companies to follow.
As we continued through to the various company visits, I learned so many things
about global business. The office cultures all seemed to be carefree, yet still very
productive. When people think of business they think of small cubicles in office
buildings, but these companies proved again and again that business can be fun and
profitable simultaneously. Trips to the Feldon Forest Farm, Roadside Tavern, and
Burren Smokehouse all demonstrated that you do not have to be a huge name brand
to have a global market and be successful. Ultimately, my favorite company to visit
was CBRE, so I wish to explore the real estate area more. Visiting this company
expanded my views on real estate and all the various aspects that come with it.
Having multiple American employees there for our visit showed that it is still
possible to go global within the real estate industry. Prior to the visit I was interested
in this career, but CBRE made me

Comparing Ways in Which Celebrities are Presented in Two Tabloid Newspapers
I will be focusing on the representation of celebrities in two newspapers, the Daily
Mail and the Daily Star. I chose these newspapers as one is a redtop and one a
blacktop. The Daily Mail is a blacktop, these are generally aimed at the higher
classes as they contain more challenging language, and are for perhaps more
intellectual people. From this newspaper I chose ВЈ2m bland bombshell (3rd January
2004), an article on the recent successes of TV star Linda Barker. The Daily Star is
a redtop, therefore aimed at the lower classes. It uses more simple, colloquial
language, as this is generally the language that is best ... Show more content on

I am going to explore whose interests seem to be served in the articles I chose.
ВЈ2m bland bombshell tells of how Barker has gone from little known interior
designer to one of the most recognised faces on TV , even though she seemed
destined to be C List . On this article, practically the entire page is taken up by
images of Barker compared to relatively little writing. The pictures show all of her
recent projects through which she has gained large sums of money. There are 10
images in total, each showing how much money she received from them, these
could be shown to emphasise just how many features Barker has appeared in and
how much she has gained from them. The article also grabs the readers attention, as
there are so many pictures. This could also put more of an emphasis on her looks,
she is quite good looking and this may attract more readers.
The article on Barker is largely covered with images of her various projects. There
are no shots in which she comes across badly and she is posing in all of them.
There are no pictures of her outside her advertisements in her normal everyday life.
This could suggest that advertising is her life, and she does nothing but try and make
more money. The pictures, which take up around 5/6 of the page, emphasise just how
many programmes she has been involved with. The

It is now an established fact that there is an intense linkage between migration and
informal sector, specially that in the urban sector. Number of literature suggests that
there exist a two way causation between these two factors. While migration helps in
booming of urban informal sector, similarly this development of informal sector
attracts further migration. Number of studies has been made in this regard. There are
various issues through which one can interlink rural to urban migration and informal
sector. Regarding the interlinkage between rural to urban migration and urban
informal sector Banerjee (1983) came up with some interesting findings. The starting
point of the study was the applicability of the probabilistic model of... Show more

The study suggests that majority of the people who are migrating into the urban
sector are illiterate and of unskilled type. As a result they become unable to get a
formal job in the urban formal job market. A major portion of this unskilled migrated
labour force joins to the urban informal job market. Finally this low quality of
migration has resulted into low quality urbanization in urban India which ultimately
led to an urban decay. Studying the interrelationship between rural to urban migration
and urban informal sector Meng (2001) find that the issue is controversial .
According to the author, most classical migration models treat the informal sector as
a temporary employment opportunity for migrants (Todaro, 1969; Fields, 1975),
though some empirical studies challenged this assumption and suggested that the
informal sector may play an important role in economic development (ILO, 1972;
Bhattacharya, 1993; Banerjee, 1983). The study found that two groups, namely wage
earner and self employed, in the informal sector have played different roles in
attracting migrants when compared to the formal sector. While the wage earner
group provides temporary employment opportunities to migrants, the self employed
group appears to be a desirable employment choice for the in migrants. One of the
interesting finding of the study is that migrants having higher human capital choose
to be self employed
7. Negligence
Negligence refers to failure to act with a reasonable caution that causes an injury or
death of a person. For example, in this case the failure to put a wet floor sign is
considered an act of negligence, because the person responsible for putting the wet
floor sign failed to act with care. There are four elements that determine negligence
and they are as follow: a duty to use due care, breach of the duty of due care, actual
cause of injuries or damages and the proximate cause of injuries or damages . In
this case, Michelle failed to act with negligence when she forgot to display the wet
sign , which caused Paul to fall and break his ankle.
Frist element of negligence refers to duty of due care. This means that we, people,
have an obligation
8. The Schindler s List Critique
Schindler s List Critique On December 12th 1993, famed film director Steven
Spielberg released a movie unlike anything the world had ever seen. Predominantly
filmed in black and white, the docudrama had a running time of more than three
hours. These elements, not exactly being crowd pleasers, did not foretell its
incredible success. Schindler s List, set in Poland and cast by the thousands, became
the foremost Hollywood movie that not only attempted, but successfully depicted,
the Holocaust in all its enormity. Up until that point the Holocaust had remained a
subject that was considered taboo, horrific, and therefore impossible to portray on
film. Despite the unavoidable flaws that follow creating a taboo subject into a
movie, Spielberg defied all odds in directing an award winning movie that brought
an unspeakable subject to the surface to be discussed and understood. Through the
use of cinematic effects such as black and white film and parallel editing Spielberg
effectively portrays the story of Schindler and his role in the Holocaust. In Schindler
s List, Spielberg effectively employs the use of black and white cinematography with
flashes of color to lend the film a more realistic, and therefore credible quality.
Cameraman Janusz Kaminski expands on this concept in the Peter Ettedgui book,
Cinematography saying, With Schindler s list, Roman Vishniac s timeless
photographs of the Jewish community in eastern Europe were an important influence.
The idea was to make the

Women s Reproductive Rights
What if a sixteen year old decided to apply to adopt a child? She d be denied that
from the get go, right? Of course, she s way too young, not nearly mature enough,
can t support herself on her own, etc. If all of this is true, then why should a
sixteen year old rape victim have to raise a child she didn t plan for? Even women
who aren t ready to start a family or any other reason, shouldn t have to. All women
deserve true information and the access to safe and legal abortions.

This benefitted the US in that it was more available to women in need. The
downfall was that it brought about a division in the public. Many states are still
restricting the availability of abortion even after this ruling because of how hard the
pro life group is working to overturn it (Bailey 5).
Pro life groups can view abortion as murder. Since the cells of the fetus in the very
beginning of the pregnancy are technically living things, they can be considered
alive. (Should Abortion be Legal?) While these cells are technically alive, they are
still completely dependent on the mother for absolutely everything. The cells couldn t
develop at all if it weren t in the uterus.
Human life in its fullest sense includes the ability to exist as a separate being and to
be conscious aware of one s surroundings and to be able to think, feel, and respond
to them. (Bailey 6) The decision to terminate the pregnancy should be decided well
before the point where the fetus could survive outside of the uterus besides in the
extreme cases.
It s also argued that everyone can prevent pregnancy. Sure, the only way to really do
this is to practice abstinence, but not everyone chooses to do this. Some who are
otherwise abstinent can t control rape. The victim isn t at fault and should have every
right to terminate that unwanted pregnancy. Some who don t practice abstinence
could still be at a disadvantage. With Planned Parenthood centers being shut down
and poor sexual education
10. Principles of Delegation
Principles of Delegation Introduction Delegation is giving authority to someone
else to conduct specific functions. It is also important in the same context to
ascertain that each midwife is responsible and accountable for their own practice.
Therefore, a midwife delegating any functions is accountable for their decision to
do so. The delegator is responsible or accountable for making sure that the delegated
function is in order and that the necessary structures are in place for that person. In
addition, the midwife to whom function has been given is also responsible and
accountable to perform the delegated function appropriately. The midwives both
delegate and delegated need to apply critical thinking that involves use of
knowledge, skills and values so as to make critical decisions that will positively
impact patient care. Critical thinking process therefore uses clinical and professional
judgment in all aspects of midwife judgment, and is critical in the delegation to
others care of patients. Midwives must be constantly aware that in delegation, they
retain accountability for the results of the process and this cannot be delegated.
Therefore, the midwife delegator, is supposed to be available while the task is under
way or if not they should have the ability to direct the process through optional means
of communication either written or verbal or both. Discussion One of the most
important principles of delegation is that it must be done in the best interest of

12. Challenges to Vietnam s State Capacity
THREE MAJOR CHALLENGES TO STATE CAPACITY
FACED BY VIETNAM OVER THE LAST DECADE
State building is an enduring process dating back from the 13th century. Since the
emergence of modern states, there has never been a smooth and flat road for states
development. States, ranging from strong to weak or from rich to poor, all have
difficulties in every step of the progress. However, different states with a different
history, society and nature will have to face up to different challenges, especially the
challenges to state capacity which is a fundamental element of maintaining a state.
Vietnam is not an exception. Being a developing country, the challenges to Vietnam s
state capacity are understandably numerous. Among those varied ... Show more

Firstly, it challenges the state capacity in ensuring equality among the whole
society. In most cases of corruption, wealth is concentrated in the hands of a
minority of population as money and properties go to the pockets of those who have
power and position. Vice versa, good positions and promotions are given to those
who have money instead of genuine ability. The burden of corruption falls on the
poor since they are not able to afford the bribes to get good education, health care and
other services (Myint 2000). Secondly, corruption, by creating inequality within the
society also reduces the legitimacy of the government in the eyes of its citizens. A
government which is seriously corrupted is hardly able to implement laws and
policies efficiently. Moreover, the capacity of the state to invest in national projects
is also diminished because of serious losses of revenues caused by corruption.
Businesses and companies in Vietnam pay bribes to get reduction of taxes, fees, dues,
custom duties and public utility charges such as for water and electricity (Myint, 49).
Thus, in direct or indirect ways, corruption is still a great challenge to the state
capacity of Vietnam that both the government and citizens are for years trying to find
a resolution.
Secondly, apart from corruption which is a challenge emerges within the state,

This essay seeks to discuss the statement of The criminal justice system is failing
children and young offenders in the UK by considering both whether our justice
system is delivering the overhaul of the youth justice systems aims of
Providing the criminal justice system with an appropriate selection of sentencing
choices and focusing any sentencing on preventing re offending by stopping the
vicious cycle young offenders tend to fall into. This report will also discuss the
widely shared opinion that our justice system is severely inadequate for UK s young
people therefore failing to rehabilitate young offenders and strongly promote and
enforce restorative justice as Sir Alan Beth MP (The Chair of the Youth Justice
Committee) intends to. According to UK Governments official crime rate stats, In
2015 there were around 950,000 arrests made in England and Wales, of which
94,960 were of people aged 10 17 years. This immediately shows how obligatory it
is for our system to be constructive for young offenders and therefore advantageous
for society in decreasing crime rates within young people.
UK Criminal Justice System : subsection 1 : the importance of the Youth justice

The Uk s youth justice system can be criticised for being to lenient on young
offenders as the UK beholds many laws that ban any physical / mental abuse towards

Prior to the establishment of the Abrahamic monotheistic religions (Judaism,
Christianity and Islam) religious justice was a muddled picture. In the polytheistic
religions, gods each had their own interests, which often conflicted with the interests
of other gods. The belief in one god allowed the Abrahamic religions setup a
fundamentally different dynamic in ethics; the dichotomous distinction between right
and wrong. (Stark, 2001). Human actions no longer served one godor another s
interests, they were now judged by the embodiment of all that was perfect and sacred;
God.
The implementation of this new ethical paradigm allowed for Abrahamic societies to
link their belief in God to common social values and responsibilities (Stark, ... Show

Theoretically, Christianity does not require people to live a good life in the eyes of
God s law in order gain God s favor. God is said to love all of humanity, warts and
all (Brown, 2007). In Christianity, faith in God trumps the personal faults of people.
That is not to say that following God s will is not important, as most Christians
display their faith in God by choosing to live by his laws, a practice known as
sanctification.
Christians see the life of Jesus Christ as the ultimate representation of God s love.
Through his life, death and resurrection Jesus was able to overcome the human
condition of being fallen from God grace. Humans fell from grace, and their place in
the Garden of Eden, through the original sin . If a person is able to accept God s love
and recognize its influence in their life, then they too may be able to recover from
their fallen state.
The flip side of God s love for Christians is the concept of the wrath of God . Some
Christians interpret the wrath of God as God observing and punishing those who do
not obey his laws, as happens numerous times in the Bible. Other Christians interpret
the wrath of God in a more philosophical manner. These Christians believe that God
ordered the universe in particular manner and then gave humanity a guide on how to
achieve happiness in His universe. The wrath of God is simply the natural outcome
for individuals who try to act
15. Bertram Poem
Can a single person consider Bertram Potts (Pottsie) to be totally masculine in his
physical appearance as well as his social behaviors? Looking at Bertram as a
masculine figure can be difficult to see based on the fact that he is indeed feminine in
his mannerisms. Yes, physically he is an attractive young man who takes on
masculinityin his physical features, but he is naturally required to borrow from
masculinity. Bertram is supposed to be masculine, but he is instead seen as
feminine. In all ways he is seen to be based in the feminine domestics sphere, and
tends to be feminine over all. Bertram must borrow from masculinity as well or he
must become more conventionally masculine if he is to earn the love of Sugarpuss
O Shea and defeat Lilac and his gangsters. Compared to the masculinity and self
confidence shown by the mob boss himself, Joe Lilac, and the free spirited and very
experienced Sugarpuss O Shea, Bertram behavior is seen as a feminine mish mash of
bookishness, inexperience, and motherly love, given his isolation within the domestic
sphere.
Correspondingly, according to the Week One Recap, gendercan be seen as
dichotomous, which means gender is divided into either feminine or masculine. For
instance, the gender of Bertram is indeed viewed as being dichotomous, because his
gender is split into feminine and masculine when analyzed throughout the movie.
However, when viewing gender women are seen as staying at home within their
domestic sphere tending to others needs at home, potentially they are caregivers or
teachers. Additionally, men are out working in the public sphere making money and
are not seen within the domestic sphere. In reference of Handout IV, Certain actions
and certain aspects of personality are thought to be either feminine or masculine. It is
conventionally feminine, for instance, to think in terms of our relationships with
others. It is masculine, by contrast, to think in terms of our independence. In contrast,
Bertram conforms to femininity, he is pleased about staying within his domestic
sphere doing his research. He is not one to go out into the public sphere and work,
he feels most comfortable within his own domestic sphere. Bertram is also seen as a
caregiver and
16. Sydney Carton Character Analysis Essay
Regret, missed opportunities and an unattainable love plagued the life of Sydney
Carton in Charles Dickens A Tale Of Two Cities. Throughout the novel, every fiber
of Carton s being strove for a change in his miserable existence and a chance to
redeem himself, yet he trudged on and masked his insecurities with drinking and
denial. The shift in his life he had long pined for happened when he goes to the
chemist and wanders around late at night. He was a lost man, but the tone of this
passage by Dickens changes to show Carton s newfound purpose. By shifting from
and dark and decisive tone at night to a light and hopeful tone in the morning, Carton
has a metaphorical deathand rebirth. A shift in tone occurs when the sun rises in the
morning, symbolizing his birth into a newer, purer life. Sydney Carton has
transformed from being lost and purposeless into a savior. Before his redemption,
Carton was weak and unsure of what to make of himself; however, he comes to
realize what he must do to save the life of Charles Darnay. With a decided step (pg),
Sydney marches to his future, even though it means that he will die. The word
decided connotes that Sydney has made up his mind; he will not falter in his actions,
and his determination is something that was never present in his life before this
moment.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tone shifts from dark and grim to light and hopeful, full of clarity about what
is to come. When the glorious sun (pg) rises, it sheds a light of optimism on
Carton, who feels as bright as the new morning. Additionally, the Sun stands as an
allusion to Jesus. Both Jesus and Carton died for people that they love. Both men
were also redeemed when Jesus was resurrected and Carton s dreams lived on
through Lucie s children. Furthermore, Biblical parallels of Carton as Jesus are
prevalent when Carton repeats the Bible verse in which Jesus calls himself the
resurrection and the life
17. The Denotation Of The Term Hatred
The denotation of the term hatred is intense dislike or ill will (Oxford). Commonly,
the word is used to describe a dislike for an object or place. But, often times, it is
used as an emotion or feeling. Therefore, it is often misunderstood that individuals
simply do not care for or like whoever is receiving the punishment. On the contrary,
when discussing the term as a feeling, hatred is a secondary emotionclosely related to
loveor admiration. While they seem to be opposites, the extreme emotions are not
opposite of the spectrum, they are more closely related than we choose to grasp. The
strong act of expressing hatred is an emotion that stems from an original primary
emotion. We must care for someone before we can hatehim or her. Many people
express hatred towards individuals they originally cared for, admired or loved and
are now jealous of, have a toxic passion for, resent or are disappointed in. This
concept often leads to common misinterpretations of the emotion and can also be a
term that is misjudged in the wrong context. In opposition, it is commonly
understood that hate is a synonym for indifference or caring less, but this is not the
case, particularly when it is used in terms of the one s feelings for another
individual. If we were simply indifferent why would we hate him or her? If it isn t
causing us any emotion, why does it matter? It is impossible to not care or be
indifferent towards someone you hate. If it is broken down, reasoning behind why

Harry Hopkins was the savior of art culture during the Great Depression, as a matter
of fact, Artists wasn t originally included in the New Deal development. President
Franklyn Roosevelt was not considering them as people who worked for a living,
strangely enough, he placed Hopkins in charge of the program. He believed the
artists had to generate earnings for their selves as well. The money they will spend in
the economy will help create jobs. The government treated the artist like employees
giving them paintings quotas. Federal Government wasn t governing the type of
painting being made by the artist. Majority of the artists expresses a political
undertone in their paintings. The United Statesis a melting pot of nationalities, all

22. China s Rule Under Legalism And Launching A Military...
From 600 BCE to 600 CE, China experienced changes in its political system in terms
of the dissimilar ruling styles of different leaders, the rule under Legalism, and the
influence of philosophical thinking like Daoism. These changes, influenced by
aspects of the world and its own region, shaped China into its Classical state. In
contrast, the concept of the Mandate of Heaven, the civil service system, and the
significance of unity through a strong central government remained constant
throughout Chinas Classical period. These continuities followed through, staying
essentially the same as an important part of China s identity. From warring states to
an empire, China experienced a drastic change in restoring the civilization through
different dynasties and rulers. The unity China wanted was non existent during the
age of the warring states as there were rivalries between the seven competing
kingdoms. Shihuangdi of the state of Qin tried to reunify China through Legalism
and launching a military campaign. After the collapse of Shihuangdi s brutal policies,
China switched over to the milder and moralistic rule of the Han dynastythat
followed. To try and restore China into something great, the people underwent
changes to find a solution that would end the disorder. Likewise, Rome also
experienced a change in its civilization from city state to empire through its way of
ruling. Although each civilization targeted a different way to build up their empire,
both China and Rome
23. Invasive Species Invade The Great Lakes
The Great lakes have had many struggles throughout the years. Such as, invasive
species, pollution, and habitat loss. All of these affected the lake in a bad way and
here is how.
Species have been invading the Great Lakes for a very long time. Scientists estimate
that there are more than 185 invasive species in the Great Lakes today. One of the
species that invade the Great Lakes is the Round Goby. This animal usually feeds
on fish eggs, Yellow Perch, Bass, and Walleye. The Round Goby is an invasive
species because it kills other species, or it can make them extinct. Another example
of invasive specie is Quagga Mussel. The Quagga Mussel usually sits in lakes or
oceans, building up over a long period of time, this leads to millions, and millions

26. The Pros And Cons Of Assault Weapons Ban
The current legislation in America is pushing for an Assault Weapon ban, in the
hopes of diminishing and stop, mass shootings and gun crime, although the ban of
Assault Weapons will have absolutely no effect on gun crimes and mass shootings.
We as Americans are in a crossroad, dived in this issue we face today, everyone has
different views and opinions on how should we approach these assault weapons, that
we are constantly being informed on the daily news, commonly used by portrayers of
evil. The majority of Americans, that are not informed with the way current gun laws,
and restrictions are normally the ones that agree with an assault weaponbar or stricter
gun control laws.
Perhaps the first step into addressing the ban, is that it will not prevent mass
shootings, instead we should understand how these weapons operate. I would like
to begin by explain this weapon that everyone seems to be scared and terrified
about.First of what are assault weapons, well most Americans will say a weapon
used by the military that can shoot fully automatic by just holding the trigger, and in
some sense, they are right, but what they fail to see is, those are highly illegal in
some states, and in others require a class 3 military contractor license and hundreds
of thousands of dollars to acquire, which your daily American cannot afford. The term
assault weapon by definition is a weapon that can be switch between semi automatic,
and full automatic, the weapons that we see, being
27. Negative Effects Of Black Tiger Shrimp
In addition to inbreeding and demographic stochasticity, it has long been known that
invasive species can cause drastic and often irreparable changes to native
ecosystems, including the decline of indigenous species of both fauna and flora. In
fact, invasive species have directly contributed to the decline of an estimated 42
percent of threatened and endangered species in the United States (Dilthey, 2017).
Some of these invasive species are widely known, such as Dreissena polymorpha, the
Zebra mussel, which has endangered at least 30 species of mussel, including Higgins
Eye Pearlymussel (Magher, n.d.). Others are not so commonly known, like Penaeus
monodon, the Black Tiger shrimp, which was first found in the Gulf of Mexico as
recently as 2006 (Buchele, 2006).
The Black Tiger shrimp (also known as the Giant Tiger prawn) is native to the Pacific
ocean, can reach up to one foot in length and one pound in weight, and feeds
primarily on crabs and smaller species of shrimp (Shilcutt, 2011). There are several
theories on how these massive invertebrates first ended up in the Gulf Coast, but so
far researchers are still looking for a definitive answer. Now that they are here,
though, they have had a tremendous negative impact on other, smaller species of
shrimp. Due to their large size and aggressive nature, they are able to easily
outcompete native populations, as well as spread exotic diseases that indigenous
shrimp are not able to fend off. After the local shrimp have died out,

Executive Summary
The operations management problem that our group chosen to discuss about
occurs at a small, family owned restaurant business called Good Greek Grill.
Known best for their tasty greek food, the company s primary problem is inventory
management; trying to determine the order quantities and the method of lot sizing
and when to order so the company doesn t waste items with short life such as the
dairy products that uses like yogurt and milk. In the past the store has had been
throwing away large quantities of dairy products due to lack of forecasting the
demand for dairy products as well as weak inventory planning methods from
unqualified employees. As a result, Good Greek Grill (G3) asked our group to help
them solve the problem since after getting a SOM class we are able to determine
methods towards solutions of Operational Management problems. The solution can
be found by getting to know what is the current reorder point and order quantity by
using the EOQ (Economic Order Quantity) inventory model . Cost cutting is
essential as the store doesn t get enough customers that are interested in the dessert
and coffee products that are offered in store. Yogurt is used in our dessert items
which are the strawberry greek yogurt and the black
32. How White Tailed Deer Affect Native And Invasive Plant...
How White tailed Deer Effect Native and Invasive Plant Species Populations in the
Eastern United States.
Introduction
Whitetail deer have come to be known as a keystone species, species known for
affecting other organisms in an ecosystem. Deer are known as a keystone species in
forest habitats such as in the Eastern United States because they are capable of
destroying potential forest habitat of other organisms (McShea and Rappole, 1992).
For example, deer have a negative impact on forest ecosystems by trampling and over
browsing over vegetation, without creating any habitat for other native species.
Throughout the eastern United States, the abundance of white tailed deer
(Odocoileus virginianus) has increased dramatically over the last century (Taggart
and Long, 2015). Population increases could be due to increased habitat
fragmentation from land development, reduced predators and/or hunting pressure.
Individual deer ranges varied during seasonal times, deer movements are usually
greatest during the peak breeding months from late fall through winter (Williams et.
al, 2012). Regardless of the cause, high deer densities can have significant effects on
plant communities such as plant decay and/or even death. Deer consume a large
amounts of plant biomass (leaves, buds, flowers and fruits) and directly reduce the
growth, reproduction, and survival of herbaceous and woody plant species (Shen et.
al, 2016). The impacts of white tailed deer on forests along the Eastern United

34. Thesis Of Half Earth
Half Earth by E.O. Wilson (2016) deals with the complicated nature of
conservation. The book is clearly written by a man who values every aspect of
biodiversity, even to the point of disregarding certain key arguments against
protected areas. This paper will summarize Wilson s argument in Half Earth, along
with his suggested solutions. To close, the concept of making half the earth a
protected area has many positives and negatives that will be evaluated. Leakage,
indigenous populations, and possible habitat fragmentation are all issues around
protected areas that will be analyzed. The fact of the matter is that Wilson s argument
is complicated by works by other academics and authors.

leakage and spillover have a greater impact on protected areas. The other problem

37. Taking a Look at Hinduism
Many religions offer an exact path to the afterlife; illuminated by various rules and
regulations that one must follow to reach enlightenment. Hinduism, on the other
hand, is much more complex, offering multiple ways to achieve moksha and
providing many answers to the ancient question of what happens after we die? Many
people think that Hindus believe in many deities, but the Hindu concept of Godis
much broader than that. In fact, Hinduismitself encompasses much more than just
one specific set of religious beliefs. While some Hindus believe that God is a
divine being with certain identifiable attributes, others believe that God cannot be
defined and is an all pervading being that extends beyond everything. Although
some beliefs differ, the majority of Hindus see the concept of God in multiple
ways. Among these are the concepts of God as one and many, God and the soul,
God as sound, God as image, God in nature, cows, and avatara. One of Hinduism s
most distinguishing features is the concept of multiple gods. These multiple gods
are manifestations of the various powers of the divine. Hindus believe that the all
pervasive God is both one and many. Because this concept carries the idea of God
as an omnipresent being, everything can be seen as being God s form. Hindus
worship many Gods, but they also believe that the divine is singular or one. These
Gods are representations of different aspects of the overall God. Although their

Police Misconduct The brutality of the police force has been a long worldwide
problem, but especially between the years of 2012 2016. Black people are being
unjustly beaten and shot in plain sight for doing nothing while being unarmed.
Journal of African American Studies Blacks are viewed as deserving of harsh
treatment in the criminal justice system (482). Black males with more Afrocentric
features may receive longer sentences than blacks with less Afrocentric features
like lighter skin and straighter hair (482). Nowadays it is important to know about
the police force. It s important to know our rights as citizens and be careful around
cops. Not everybody is good, but not everybody is bad also. In The New York
Amsterdam News 21 people were killed by Chicago police in 2008. Entire families
were being attacked. They believe it s because of their skin color and how they are
different. The year of racism started off with the world seeing the police murder of

By 879 AD, Guthrum s remaining army left Wessex, some following him to his
Kingdom and some leaving to life a more settled life in Northumbria in York. Some
assembled on the Thames to form a new army to return to the European continent
to begin new campaigns and take advantage of the political turmoil in Francia with
the death of King Charles the Bald (Charles II) in 877 AD. Although with the
treaty in place between King Alfred of Wessex and King Guthrum of the Danelaw,
Alfred was saved any major conflicts but still had to deal with the occasional
Viking raid here and there upon his kingdom. Alfred had reorganized his army,
rebuilt and built new defenses around the countryside and a navy. Peace between the
Danelaw and Wessex continued until in 884 AD, when King Guthrum of the
Danelaw attacked Wessex. Alfred defeated him and made a peace agreement that
was outlined in the Treaty of Alfred and Guthrum. This peace treaty formally drew
the boundaries of the Danelaw and allowed for Danish self rule in that region. In
November 885 AD, a Viking named Rollo (HrГіlfr, possibly Ganger Hrolf (Hrolf the

under the leadership of Sigfred. The Vikings initially demanded a ransom, but the
Count of Paris, Odo denied it to them, even though he could only muster a few

siege engines, they failed to breach the Parisian Walls.

The film Mulan is set in ancient China, in an undefined dynasty. The Huns have
penetrated the Great Wall and have invaded China. The emperor orders that new
soldiers be drafted. Mulan, a girl who recently humiliated her family by failing the
Matchmaker s assessment, in order to save her aging father from death at war, steals
her father s armor and masquerades as a soldier. Throughout the film, several
historical inaccuracies, as well as accurate portrayals, become apparent, in such
respects as religious philosophies, historical inconsistencies and through the heavy
American influence in the making of the film. Ancient Chinese philosophies, which
are still present today, played a huge role in the film and were accurately utilized in...

Mulan contains somewhat extreme asian stereotypes that were spawned from the
American view of asian societies. The story is also influenced by American
culture. One idea that is seen by many as distinctly American is the desire to do
what is right, even if it against the norm. This idea is the subject of many a famous
American story. That idea is present again in Mulan, as she rides off to war to save
her father, despite his wishes and the law. The whole idea of doing what you know
is right is an idea that Americans hold on tight to. Examining the Huns, the primary
antagonists in the film, we see them portrayed how Americans would portray any of
its national enemies. Throughout the film, the Huns make themselves out to be
unstoppable brutes with an everlasting bloodlust, who press on to assault the
Chinese capital despite losing their entire army, save a few. By the end of the film,
we can t help but see them as rabid animals who can only be stopped by being put
down. Historically, America is very good at dehumanizing its enemies in this manner,
most notably during World War 2, with the Japanese and Germans, and even today to
an extent, making terrorists in the middle east seem like targets for missiles and
shells in our eyes. American culture influenced the writing if the Huns characters
heavily. Mulan is without a doubt an excellent film that has entertained more than a
few generations. However, it is filled with historical inaccuracies as well as ideas

Ballet is not only a well known art form with a language that is nearly universal,
but also involves a combination of several elements, including dancers, music, and
scenery; commonly performed in pointe shoes, the movements are very fluid and

which famous ballets with lengthy, complicated story plots such as Giselle took

Albrecht and marries him; only to die of a broken heart when a third character

apparently Albrecht has deceived her. After an extreme reaction, Giselle is seen as

by some models of gender construction implies a culture and agency of the social
which acts upon a nature, which itself presupposed as a passive surface, outside

she isn t the most fortunate but she is happy. On the other hand, you have Albrecht
who is a nobleman that chose to deny his culture and act as peasant to get close to
Giselle. His instinct placed a constructed view on his gender as a male that in turn
gave his character a social meaning some depth. Giselle s spirit after she died could

cultural ideas and her view on life saved his life. Giselle felt that love conquered all

When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Mourn When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard
Bloom d, one of Walt Whitman s most popular poems was written to show his
private mourning over President Lincoln s death, in a public way. Whitman
realizes his mourning is not his alone, it is a national grief, and so he tries to
vocalize his in a way that can be shared by everyone; he did so by writing this
poem (Rollyson). Whitman, drawn to the idea of a president that would emerge
from the frontier west, admired Lincoln more than most (Kreidler). His devastation
by the loss of President Lincoln, coming from his belief[s] and fervent admiration,
can be seen in When Lilacs last in the Dooryard Bloom s, but more notably in his
most popular work, O Captain! My Captain! (Kreidler). In writing, When Lilacs Last
in the Dooryard Bloom d Whitman showed his true colors and took a highly personal
note into his poetry, as well as incorporated symbols to describe the depth his and the
nation s desolation. In When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom, Whitman uses
symbols to express the nations, as well as his own, deep private mourning over
President Lincoln s death in a public way. Whitman s young life gives reason to
this poem, as well as adding to its overall tragic story. He was born in 1819 in West

Mexican Revolution by Adolfo Gilly as well as The United States and Pancho
Villa: A Study in Unconventional Diplomacy by Clarence C. Clendenen. I selected
these two sources to compare because the first source is written by Adolfo Gilly, who
is a professor in Mexicowhich means his viewpoint is different compared to Clarence
Clendenen s, who is a professor at Stanford University in the United States. The
origins of the first secondary source, The Mexican Revolution, by Adolfo Gilly was
published in 2005. This source describes the Mexican Revolution in depth
specifically from the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However this source also addresses the opposite side due to the fact that he was a
prisoner for a time. This source has helped me with my investigation by providing
information that is partial to the Mexicans and specifically mentions how the
peasants viewed Pancho Villa. The origins of the next secondary source is written
by Clarence Clendenen The United States and Pancho Villa: A Study in
Unconventional Diplomacy was published in 1961. This source depicts Pancho
Villa and his relations with the United States, specifically about how he would not
have been able to succeed as a revolutionary figure if it were not for the U.S
government and Woodrow Wilson. The purpose the author wrote this source is
because he wanted to educate people, specifically U.S. citizens on how the United
States was seen as a superior country and poorer countries such as Mexico strived
for U.S. favor. The content this source is that Villa would not have been as
successful were it not for the favor of the U.S. This source is of value because it
outlines specific details of how Pancho Villa s image was transformed due to the
U.S. This source has helped me in my investigation by giving specific examples of
how Pancho Villa used the media, however it has limited me because of the fact it
takes on the point of the U.S. perspective and does not give the perspective of the
Mexicans. Overall, I used both of these sources
46. The Battle of the Ants Analysis
Everyone is familiar with the state of armed conflict that is war, and for as long as
there has been civilization there has been war. Upon first glance, Henry David
Thoreau s The Battle of the Ants seems like a simple descriptive story of a battle
between two different species of ants, one red and one black, but if one were to
further inspect the text, they could see that Thoreau uses the antsand their battle as a
satirical allegory for human conflict. Thoreau chooses to use ants as a metaphor to
make it clear to the reader that waris futile, pointless, and a waste of life.
The Battle of the Ants begins with Thoreau casually walking out to his wood pile as
he stumbles upon the battle between the red ants and the black ants. After ... Show

He also anthropomorphizes the emotions and motivations of the ant war when he says
[i]t was evident that their battle cry was Conquer or die. He is alluding to human war
and the rhetoric and propaganda that are associated with it.
As the essay continues, Thoreau manages to make war seem even more
insignificant in comparison to the rest of the world by focusing on a single ant. He
carefully narrows the scope from the war itself to the actions of individual ants,
emphasizing the irrelevance of war. In the meanwhile there came along a single red
ant on the hillside of this valley... whose mother had charged him to return with his
shield or upon it (575). Thoreau continues expanding upon this idea of
anthropomorphizing the ants to make their comparison to humans that much more
explicit. According to Thoreau, this red ant observes the battlefield, the size of the
opposing ants, and decides when to dive into battle, something a human in the
middle of a war would do. Accompanying the meticulous description of battle,
Thoreau offers a sense of hope to the otherwise futile outcome of war when the ants
collide: and so there were three united for life, as if a new kind of attraction had been
invented which put all other locks and cements to shame (576). While discussing the
destructive inevitability of war, Thoreau includes this line to acknowledge the
47. John Brown Research Paper
Hello Everyone,
John Brown was a revolutionary abolitionist who felt very strongly about ending
slavery. He was born in 1800 and died in 1859. His birthplace was Torrington,
Connecticut. He belonged to a very loving family with very strong anti slavery
beliefs. He tied the knot twice and brought forth 20 children from those unions.
Brown had several business endeavors that failed. In 1842 he filed bankruptcy. He
began working as a conductor with the Underground Railroad in order to support
the abolitionist cause. He also started the League of Gileadites, which was organized
to aid runaway slaves fleeing to Canada. He later moved to a free black farming
community in New York.
In 1856, at the age of 55, Brown and his sons moved to Kansas Territory, John Brown
accompanied by a small army of his four sons and two other men set out along the
Pottawatomie Creek and brutally murdered five men and boys whom they believed
were promoting slavery. Later on Brown raided Missouri, where he murdered a slave
owner and freed 11 of his slaves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

just miles from Harper s Ferry, Virginia. Brown planned out his attack on Harper s
Ferry. He was going to provide local slaves with weapons. He was hoping to pose
fear in the slave owners. Despite the planning, nothing went accordingly. The
slaves didn t join his army as expected. The local police and the US Marines under
the authority of Robert E. Lee, put an end to the raid. Most of Brown s men were
killed or captured including his sons. Although, he was wounded badly, he was put
on trial very fast and was found to be guilty of murder, treason, and inciting slave
insurrection in Virginia. John Brown was put to death by hanging on December
48. Essay on Toni Morrison s Beloved
How We Define Ourselves in Beloved
The idea of how we define ourselves is a topic that has much force in the novel
Beloved by Toni Morrison. Two of the characters in the novel have strongly
opposite ideas of defining their own selves . Baby Suggs displays a very healthy
sense of self, completely based on only who she is as a person, and not relying on
any other person to assist her in her definition. She is an independent person and
loves her own self greatly. Sethe, on the other hand, has an unhealthy sense of self
because who she is is strongly dependent on her interactions and relationships with
her children.

In addition, they too have been growing and learning in their own environment with
different family members influences. Each of our own influences, in turn,
influences others. From there, we again take in and learn what we can so we can
make our own decisions on how to define our selves . Later, society influences our
thoughts on who we are as people and our relation to the world as a whole. There is
a constant norm that people try to assimilate to or diverge from. Society presents
its own ideas of who we should be as people, and it is then our own job to take that
information and do what we will with it to make our own definition for ourselves
of who we are. Two things can happen when we are required to base our definition
of self on others. One can take others ways of living and thinking, process them, and
formulate his or her own definition, independent of anyone else. Or, one can use the
relationships he or she has with other people on which to base their own definition of
self, thus making him or her dependent on those other people. As young people, we
learn and take in all we can through the world, our experiences, and relationships with
other people. From there, we grow and establish our own identities, our own selves ,
in response to those interactions with others. This definition is continually growing
and progressing as we evolve as people, interacting with different people in different
environments and
49. Stock Reflection
What i learned throughout the past weeks about my stocks is I learned that I have to
spend my money more wisely throughout the whole entire week that we had this
project. I think the most important lesson I learned about these last 8 weeks is that I
should have bought and sell more stocks I think if I would have done that I would
have gained more moneythrough the long run it would have made it more
interesting because if I would have bought and sold more. I would have learned the
lesson not to do it again in case I lost a huge profit. What I also learned about this
project is that I might go into the stock marketone day and see how I do to see if gain
actual money or if I lose money because it s actually a good thing to invest in
because you could potentially gain profit from it rather than just saving money and
you could also double your money from saving and the stockmarket.... Show more

I think what I would also do is I would take some different advice from people who
actually used the stock market to make some good money because if I learn from
them I might actually miss some mistakes when I actually invest into the stock
market. I feel like people have a really good insight on what to buy into the stock
market because they have doing this for countless years and the know how to
potentially make a profit from the stock market and when to be wise and save there
money and not make a mistake a waste there money on just one stock. I would
actually look at different graphs about the product to see if I made a good decision or

The addressees are employees of the XYZ Company in Hong Kong. They have
Chinese culture background that concerns about showing respect for others
feeling and giving face which is defined as the positive social value one effectively
claims for oneself by the line others assume he or she has taken during a particular
contact. (Goffman 1955:213) Moreover, as both the addresser and addressees
work in the same company, using positive politeness strategies can help emphasize
the solidarity between them. Once the solidarity is built within the company, it
helps encourage the employees consider the whole company as oneself and accept
the lay off activity as it can make the company become stronger as the CEO
mentioned in the email. Furthermore, the use of positive politeness strategies can
show addressees that the addresser is interested and care for them. With feeling to
be cared, employees can find it easier to accept the message about the lay off
activity. Therefore, with more positive politeness strategies than negative
politeness strategies to be adopted in the email, it proves that the CEO does the
face threatening act on record , but with redressive action in the form of positive
politeness. Brown and Levinson (1987) states this strategy can help addresser show
respect to addressees and address the positive face wants of the addressees to be like
or approved of. Different politeness systems would be employed according to the
relationships between the
52. Essay On The Trojan War
During the time of the ancient Greeks, there was much tension between the Trojans
and the Greeks, leading to the famous Trojan War. It all started when Paris, the
prince of the magnificent city of Troy, abducted a woman after making a deal with
the goddess of love, Aphrodite. There are many variations on how the war began
and the battles that took place during it, but one event stayed for certain: The story
of the large, wooden horse that lead to the downfall of Troy. Most of the information
about this historical event was recorded in Homer s famous works, The Iliadand The
Odyssey. The Trojan War
was started by a petty feud between three goddesses, fought
by brave warriors, and recorded in Homer s Iliad and Odyssey.
Conflicts began between the Trojans and the Greeks began long ago when King
Peleus, who later on became the father of the Trojan War hero, Achilles
, married
Thetis, a sea nymph. Their marriage was celebrated by the all of the gods except
for the goddess of discord and strife, Eris, who was not included in the celebration,
(History.com). Infuriated, Eris threw her gift, a golden apple who was to be gifted
to the fairest, amongst the guest. This wedding lead to the Trojan War because of the
feud between the three goddesses, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, that occurred next.
They quarreled over the apple and the title of it possessed and decided to ask Paris, a
mortal prince, who truly was the fairest, most magnificent, goddess. They then bribed
Paris with riches
53. Comparison Between the Notebook Movie and Book Essay
Enduring power of love: The Notebook The Notebook, written by Nicolas Sparks,
can be named one of the best American romantic novels. The book portrays every
trait in a guy or girl would desire to have in a significant other. According to Nicolas
Sparks, it is a celebration of how passion can be ageless and timeless, tales that
moves us to laughter and tears and makes us believe in true loveall over again . The
Notebook was on the New York Times best seller list within the very first week of
release. It spent over a year as a hardcover best seller. Theresa Park, Nicolas Sparks
agent, discovered the book after going through her slush pile, without hesitation, Park
offered to represent him. In 1995, one year later, Sparks agent... Show more content

Another strength in this movie was the plot. Without a good plot, there would be
no point to the movie. The last and final strength in The Notebook is emotion. This
film takes one through every motion imaginable. As for examples, when Allie and
Noah split, the emotional response automatically takes a tole on someone. It s as
if, your actually apart of the movie. In the book, Allison and Noah met in 1932, at
the time Allison was 15 and Noah was 17. But in the movie, they met in the year of
1940, where they both were around the same age of 17. According to Cassavetes,
(unsolved), this movie was filmed in South Carolina because of its 1040 s look.
Allison and Noah meet at a carnival, where Allison is very fond of Noah. With love
in the air, they spent the rest of the night together until the carnival was over.
However, in the movie, Noah became infatuated with Allison, and went to the
extreme of insanity by jumping on the ferry s wheel to ask her out. Noah plays
remarkable in both and just makes the audience fall in love with his character. With
most summer romances follows heartache. As for Noah and Allison, their fairytale
love weren t excluded. When the summer ended, Allison had to return back home,
leaving Noah behind. With heartache comes conflict, according to the movie, Allison
and Noah got into a huge fight before she left, which ultimately lead them regretting
the whole disagreement. Nicolas Sparks, captured this moment perfectly,
55. Essay about The Loch Ness monster
The Loch Ness monster Many times we have been in a dilemma whether to believe
or not someone who tries to persuade us for something and very often by listening
his arguments and by having enough evidence we finally manage to get out of the
dilemma. Nevertheless sometimes we cannot be sure about an event because
although there is enough evidence, our minds cannot be persuaded. An example to
justify that is the existence of the Loch Ness monster, or as it is widely known Nessie .
Nessie s story begins from the first century A.D, when Romans first went to Northern
Scotland and found carved, standing stones (which are still found in the region
around Loch Ness) that represented animals, which were all easily recognizable,
except one. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They described the beast as having a long neck followed a large body (see photograph
2) and they watched it until it left the road and entered the water.
Besides the Spicer sighting there was a plethora of sightings of Nessie. One of
those is the sighting of a motorcyclist, Mr. Grant, on the 4th of January 1934. It was
around one a.m. and was bright because of the moonlight when he saw a large
object on the right side of the road. As he approached the object he saw a small head
attached to a long neck. The animal must have seen Mr. Grant and went back to the
Loch.
Another event on the 5th of June 1935, which is considered to be of importance,
involved a young girl who worked as a maid in a large house close to a monastery.
It was around 6:30 a.m. and she was looking out of a window down the Loch. She
saw on the shore one of the biggest animals she had seen in her life at an extend of
about 200 yards. Her description was similar to those of the others: long neck, small
head, skin like an elephant and two very short fore legs or flippers . She watched for
about 20 minutes when it entered the water and disappeared.
Another eyewitness account happened in October 1955, by Colonel Patrick Grant
of Knockie estate. He saw near the bay a great commotion in the water between 100
200 yards from the road . He stopped his car and he
