Colonialism And Poverty
The foremost cause of global poverty is colonialism. After Christopher Columbus discovered the new
world in 1492, Europeans invaded the Americas, Africa, and East Asia. Today, these places are some
of the most affected by poverty. The poverty persists because the peoples of these places were killed
and enslaved. Their land, natural resources, and way of life were stolen by the colonizers. The
colonizers forced the colonies to shift from subsistence farming to cash crops, obliterating the natural
economy. Since they only grew cash crops, they were forced to buy European goods. The economy of
the colonies became locked and they became completely dependent on the colonizing country. Soon,
the colonies found themselves in debt to their colonizers. What little money these colonies were able
to make went to repay the debt, instead of going toward the development of the colony. Additionally,
since they were indebted to them, their colonizers had control over their economy. The creditors took
full advantage of this and forced the colonies to adopt neoliberalism and privatize companies and
resources, which plunged even more people into absolute poverty. Even when many of these colonies
became their own independent countries, the documentary mentioned that the debt was transferred
over to the new country, even though this was a violation of international law. This same system
continues to this day and everyday more and more people find themselves in poverty.
In my opinion, it is

Within my organisation, there are several performance management issues which need to be addressed
to help my organisation gain a competitive advantage. Two performance management issues which
can easily be identifies are 1. Performance appraisal system this is conducted only once per year and is
done solely because it is the basis on which one obtains increment on salary. This is conducted by one
s immediate supervisor without prior consultation. 2. Staff development the minimum academic
qualification for the job is a first degree in the particular subject area taught along with the required
teacher s diploma. The Ministry of Education employs persons with a minimum of Advanced level
qualification and makes no demands on them to upgrade themselves. It is incumbent on the individual
to upgrade their qualification as well as to seek out all necessary training to enhance their performance
on the job.
Within this organization there exists no formal performance management system. This is limited to the
aforementioned performance appraisal.

The City Of The Great Metropolis
There was a house in the great Metropolis older than the city. Many said that it was older than the
cathedral, and that before the Archangel Michael raised his voice as advocate in the conflict for God,
the house stood there in its evil gloom, defying the cathedral from out its dull eyes.
The house had lived through the time of smoke and soot. Every year which passed over the city crept,
when dying, into this house, until at last the house was a cemetery filled with dead years.
Set into the black wood of the door stood, copper red and mysterious, the seal of Solomon, the
pentagram.
It was said that a magician, who came from the East (and in the track of whom the plague wandered)
had built the house in seven nights. But the masons and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They died, and no doctor knew the illness. The house resisted its destruction with so great a force that
word of its malignity went out over the borders of the city, spreading far over the land. At last, there
was no honest man who would have ventured to make war against the house. Yes, even the thieves and
the rogues, who were promised remission of their sentence provided they declared themselves ready to
pull down the magician s house, preferred to go to the pillory, or even to the scaffold, rather than enter
the spiteful walls, past the latchless doors, which were sealed with Solomon s seal.
The little town around the cathedral became a large town and grew into Metropolis, and into the center
of the world.
One day there came to the town a man from far away, who saw the house and said, I want to have that.
He was initiated into the story of the house. He did not smile. He stood by his resolution. He bought
the house at a very low price, moved in at once and kept it unaltered.
This man was named Rotwang. Few knew him. Only Joh Fredersen knew him very well. It would
have been easier for Joh Fredersen to fight out the quarrel about the cathedral with the sect of Gothics
than to quarrel with Rotwang about the magician s house.
In Metropolis, in this city of reasoned, methodical hurry, very many would go far out of their way
rather than to pass close by Rotwang s house. It hardly reached to the knees of the giants standing

Jordan Peele Get Out Analysis
Have you ever considered why you feel a powerful desire for horror films? According to Stephen
King, we crave horror films to show we are not afraid, to re establish our sense of normality, and to
give an outlet to our anti civilization emotions. (Why We Crave Horror Films) Jordan Peele s film
challenges white people, who live in social environments, protected and isolated from race based
stress. They re provided with racial comfort, yet they have a lower tolerance for racial pressure. Jordan
Peele s film, deals with the more common forms of racism, but it focuses more on the progressive
liberal whites and how they contribute to silencing African Americans, causing them to be trapped in
the sunken place. Get Out follows the story of Chris, a young black man who has been dating Rose, a
young white girl for five months. Rose takes Chris to meet her parents Missy and Dean who seem
totally normal at first. Chris starts to get creeped out by everything happening at the Armitage house.
Chris wonders if these things are actually happening or he is just being paranoid. According to
critiques the film Get Out is classified as a horror film. Missy uses hypnosis to deprive her victims of
their will causing zombie ism in the film. In Get Out, the protagonist Chris, a young black man, is a
New York City photographer. I feel that anyone who finds themselves in the same situation as Chris
would do everything in their power to escape from the evildoers. In the film,

Double Standards In The Importance Of Being Earnest
Oscar Wilde, playwright of the play The Importance of Being Earnest, uses the relationships and
interactions of his characters to satirize the moral beliefs and customs of Victorian Era England. Wilde
s play follows the life of Jack Worthington who is trying to earn the approval of his fiancee,
Gwendolen s, mother in order to marry her. Lady Bracknell s disapproval stems from the ambiguity of
Jack s birthright, despite him being a wealthy man. Her disapproval serves as a mockery to Victorian
society and its upheaval of social status and wealth above love and companionship as the basis of
marriage. This is seen again when, despite her initial refusal, Lady Bracknell allows her nephew,
Algernon, to marry Jack s ward Cecily after hearing of her vast wealth. Her approval of this
relationship further mocks the Victorian belief that monetary gains is the most important aspects when
considering marriage. With these two separate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite Cecily being orphaned just like Jack, because she is a girl with wealth and status, she is held
at a lower standard than Jack, a man of her same caliber, when Lady Bracknell is mulling over the
prospect of marriage. With this situation, Wilde reveals the double standard of Victorian society that
still lasts until this day. This double standard also relates to marrying up into wealth. Lady Bracknell,
despite coming from an impoverished background, is allowed to marry a wealthy and aristocratic man.
But when Jack asks to marry Gwendolen, he is subjected to a lengthy interview in which he must
prove that he has enough wealth to support her. Again, Wilde puts his characters into common
Victorian England situations to mock the practice involving marriage, wealth and status. Wilde
manages to provoke thought into his readers and audience to question the values they grew up
learning about through the actions and interactions that his characters must face to reach their

The Influence Of Thomas Jefferson s Monticello
Thomas Jefferson´s Monticello Thomas Jefferson once said that Architecture is my delight, and
putting up and pulling down, one of my favorite amusements. He spent much of his life putting up and
pulling down, most notably during the forty year construction of the Monticello.
Influenced by his readings of ancient and modern architectural writings, Jefferson gleaned the best
from both his readings and from his observations in Europe, creating his own personal style of
architecture, a mix of Neoclassicism s Roman temples, and Palladian villa. Partly, because of Jefferson
s influence, our federal buildings set an American precedent for the neoclassical style. Jefferson s
admiration for neoclassical style went so far as to design ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There are a total of forty three rooms in the entire structure: thirty three are in the house itself (cellar,

South Terrace. The stable and carriage bays under the North Terrace are not included in these totals.
The first design of the Monticello had fourteen rooms total (cellar, six; first floor, five; second floor,

For supermarket and restaurant chains, the sale typically is made to the purchasing department/buying
division of the retailer. These sales often involve a significant amount of field testing by the direct
sales force, giving Tasteless a competitive advantage. Tasteless heavily advertises its products in trade
magazines and attracts individual sales through advertising in media such as health care magazines.
Individual clients include CEOs of Fortune 1000 companies, as well as individuals from coast tocoast.
Management s objective is to establish Tasteless as the most recognized and respected tea brand in the
U.S. market, eventually supplanting Lipton Tea as the market leader in tea brand recognition and tea
sales in both the higher end and lower end tea markets. While Tasteless currently is experiencing some
sharp growing pains, the good news is the growing interest in different types of non traditional
beverages, combined with increasingly health conscious baby boomers and younger adults. These
factors have tripled sales over the past five years ending December 31, 2008. At the same time, new
local and regional competitors with a bevy of new products are offering fast delivery from local
production centers and in some cases lower prices, challenging Tasteless for retail shelf space. Without
this shelf space, especially in supermarkets, Tasteless tea products cannot be retailed on a volume
basis. Tasteless has

These investigations led to production of 8.4 tons of gold annually [1]. These successes led several
other gold mining companies to follow with bioleaching processes. Today bioleaching of gold
containing ore has become increasingly important as bioleaching technology progresses and gold
reserves become increasingly depleted. 2.2 TYPES OF BIOLEACHING Types of bioleaching of gold
ore can be divided into three categories. Each method offers various advantages. Selection of the
bioleaching type for a specific application depends on several factors including: the ore composition,
gold content, surrounding environment and amount of available reserves. 2.2.1 BIOREACTORS
Bioreactors are employed when the value of the gold recovery is sufficient to justify the costs of
installing and operating the necessary equipment. Bioreactors are able to process less gold ore at one
time, but create a much faster oxidation process. This process usually utilizes higher grade ores
compared to heap leaching. This type of bioleaching is characterized by a reactor tank in which
relatively finely ground ore and nutrients are added, as well as bacteria containing solution to create a
slurry (Figure 1). This mixture is then mechanically or air agitated. [pic] Figure 1: Bioreactor tanks for

Cacstromethorphan Case Studies
1.Dextromethorphan is believed to have rapid acting antidepressant properties at high dosage because
it s similar to glutamate NMDA receptor antagonist ketamine, which has shown rapid (within hours

potential to be abused [16].

A case report showed Dextromethorphan was effective in a middle aged man with Major Depressive
Disorder. A 51 year old Caucasian male with DSM V Major Depressive Disorder, recurrent, severe,
non psychotic and Generalized Anxiety Disorder was treated with 600 mg/day of CYP2D6 inhibitor
bupropion XL (a common antidepressant drug) and a 60 mg BID oral dose of Dextromethorphan. The
patient showed improvement in major depressive disorder without side effects. This case study was
the first to show the fast acting effect of Dextromethorphan in major depressive disorder in humans.
This adds to the building literature on the antidepressant effects observed in Dextromethorphan. The
report suggested the administration of other common antidepressants with Dextromethorphan, such as
lithium might prolong the duration of the rapid antidepressant effect [19].
Although this case report illustrates that Dextromethorphan has rapid antidepressant effects in
humans, there are very few clinical trial on the effect of Dextromethorphan on major depressive
disorder. This clinical trial will be one of very few controlled evaluating the safety and efficacy of
Dextromethorphan in patients with major depressive disorder. Therefore, various assumptions will be
required to estimate sample size. This trial will focus on patient who have

Essay On Splitup Function
This splitup function helps in coming out of the problem associated with DBSCAN as it aims to
partition highly uniform datasets, which may be incorrectly identified as a single cluster if DBSCAN
is called with a reasonable large s reachability value (Usually the density based algorithm forms
relatively less clusters based on the density even when there is a need to further divide the clusters).
This splitup function is also useful for some datasets that present specific challenges for the density
based algorithm such as those with large discrepancies in density. When there is a situation which
leads into a dilemma in which clusters to split, this function takes the strength of the cluster as well as
the distance between the new clusters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The initial centroid for the top cluster is the data point far away from the original cluster s centroid. To
find the initial location of the centroid of the bottom cluster, we draw a vector starting at the original
cluster s centroid and ending at the top cluster s centroid. This vector is then set to point in the
opposite direction of the top centroid. The endpoint of this mirrored vector is used as the initial
centroid for the bottom cluster. This entire process of splitting the cluster results in the initial centroids
for top and bottom being as far away from each other as possible. Figure 3. A pseudocode of the
mirroring function used in the weighted split function of our CluDataSE. The complete dataset points
of the original cluster are then assigned to either the top or bottom clusters, depending on which
centroid is closer. Once all the data points have been assigned to some cluster, the top and bottom
clusters are then checked to have at least minimum points of data points. If either the top or the bottom
cluster contains less than minimum points of data points, then the split is considered invalid. In this
case, the original cluster remains the same without further classification, and, the top and bottom
clusters formed using splitup function are discarded. If a split has occurred, the two new clusters, top
and bottom are stored in a list of new

Summary Of The Scripture Way Of Salvation By John Wesley
John Wesley argued Christian perfection throughout his ministry. His quest was holy living. Wesley
was focused with the life of holiness than with the philosophy concerning holiness and he was
engrossed in the experience than in its principles. When Wesley talked about development in holiness,
and the fundamental goal of being entire sanctification, he was fixed that sanctification and
justification is by faith. In his preaching, The Scripture Way of Salvation , Wesley expounded the faith
by which Christians are perfected is because God is able, he promised in Scripture, he is willing, and
he really does it 1) God has foretold this in Scripture. 2) What God promises, God is able to do. 3)
God is capable and willing to manage it right away. 4) God actually answers this. Wesley concluded
the sermon by exhorting his audience expect it by faith, expect it as you are, and expect it now!
He communicates justification is by grace through faith as a qualified change in a person s conversion.
Besides, he accentuates the real change that takes place in a person s heart and life as a soul become
new creatures in Christ. I will make you a raw heart and place a young spirit in you; I will take away
from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 336:26 NIV) Salvation is not a
static act of God is showing towards the past; Wesley understands salvation as a revitalizing
procedure. It begins with justification and new birth and stays as the Christian matures in

How Does Alfred Hitchcock Use Cinematography In Veertigo
The director, Alfred Hitchcock, effectively uses cinematography elements, specifically those
pertaining to lighting, including color, contrast and shadows in the movie Vertigo to express emotions,
the aspect of time and most importantly to further his theme. With the major themes of the film being
life, love and death, the director uses the colors green and red to symbolize life, love and death
respectively, while additional colors such as blue is used to signify a change in time, specifically from
day to night time. Moreover, color is further used to portray emotions through the technique of

Green as a symbol of life is used throughout the movie, beginning from the scene in the forest when

The Holocaust Memories
Adolf Hitler s rise to power grew out of issues left unresolved by the earlier conflict during World War
I. Resentment and harsh terms imposed by the Versailles Treaty only fueled Hitler s revenge, which
would result in the largest blood bath the world has ever come to see. World War II would be
considered the deadliest war in history, murdering millions of civilians. In 1939, Adolf Hitler invaded
Poland resulting in a deadly six year battle until the final allied defeat of both Nazi Germany and
Japan in 1945.
In August 1939, Hitler and Joseph Stalin signed the Germany Soviet Nonaggression Pact. The

This was the beginning of the coming Holocaust.
In 1941, Germans started to transport the people they believed were the least useful from the ghettos
to the concentration camps. Many of these people were sick, old and very young. On March 17, 1942,
the first gassings began at the camp of Belzec. From then, five more mass killing centers were built at
camps in Poland. Between 1942 and 1945, Jews were taken to the camps from all over Europe. In
Warsaw ghetto, 300,000 Jews were taken and placed into a camp and at Auschwitz more than 2
million people were murdered. Within the labor camps, there was a large population of Jewish and non
Jewish prisoners who were not only gassed, but thousands of others either died of disease or
starvation. A large proportion of Hungary s Jewish population was taken to Auschwitz, killing as many
as 12,000 Jews every day.
The high amount of killings made this camp impossible to keep a secret. The mass killings that were
occurring could not be kept behind closed doors for too long, eventually the world would find out
what was going on and it would come to an end. By 1945, German leadership was dissolving and
Hitler lost his power. In his last will and political testament, Hitler blamed the war on International
Jewry and its helpers and urged the German leaders and people to follow the strict observance of the
racial laws and with merciless resistance against the universal poisoners of all people the

Weather in the book is used to convey a multitude of things, but rain in particular symbolizes some
sort of melancholy. Each time rain appears throughout the book, it sets the scene and adds to the mood
of the situation, recurring numerous times in order to solidify that symbolic relationship. One time
when the rain is prevalent is when Daisy and Gatsby first reunite. Their initial meeting is awkward
and forced, thus the rain was falling. This allows the reader to not only understand the predicament to
a greater extent, but also to visualize it. It had been five years since they were last together, and in that,
the rain represents the despair left over from their time apart. After they became more comfortable

Stock Market Crash And The Great Depression
As agonizing as the stock market crash was, at the time, people thought that this recession would not
last long (Rauchway 30). To exacerbate the situation, in 1930, two significant events occurred, the
first was the passage of the Smoot Hawley Tariff, which practically halted global consumption, and
second, was the spread of a severe drought in the Great Plains that scorched the farming sector
(Himmelberg 9). The afflictions of the farmers inundated the banking sector, and with the dwindling
economy, thousands of banks collapsed (Himmelberg 10). Some of these bank closures were results
from bank runs , in which savings were withdrawn by crowds of depositors, due to fear and panic
(Himmelberg 10). When one of New York City s major banks,

skill or physical prowess and is often competitive, this means that sports such as soccer, football,
baseball, etc are classified as sports. What about the UFC? The UFC or Ultimate Fighting

Yes! The UFC is a dangerous sport, but a sport nonetheless. Every sport has danger and there is bound
to be accidents in them all. Once again, An athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and
often of a competitive nature... ( Sport ). That being the definition of a sport clearly explains that the
UFC is indeed a sport. It takes a lot of skill with years of practice to be a fighter. It is extremely
competitive and extraneous. A sport is not defined by the danger, but of the core principles of fun, of
competition. Regardless, danger is not something to live by, yet something to live for. Danger has the
power to control someone s life, but people such as UFC fighters have taken a stand to do what they
enjoy as a career without the worry of fear or danger. There are plenty of dangerous sports that aren t
well known. For example, there is: Deep sea diving, mountain climbing, base jumping, street Luge,
and bull riding. There are countless sport that pose a danger to anyone that participates. It is human
nature to embrace danger and compete for fun. Danger is only present when rules are not followed. It
is completely optional to each and every person if they want to watch or even participate in this

Title IX Essay example
Title IX Title IX was passed by the U.S. Congress on June 23, 1972, and signed by President Richard
M. Nixon on July 1, 1972. It is a civil rights law prohibiting discrimination in education programs and
activities receiving federal funds. It was the first comprehensive federal law to prohibit sex
discrimination against students and employees in these institutions. (U.S. Department of Education,
1997) Title IX did much more than what the average mind thinks of when they hear the words: Title
IX. I personally was interested in what people thought of when they heard this and did two simple
interviews, one of my grandpa s, a 73 year old man, and also interviewed my friend, Samm, who is a

higher education, career education, employment, learning environment, math and science, sexual
harassment, standardized testing, and treatment of pregnant and parenting teens. (Women s Equity
Resource Center, 2003) How in the world does that relate to me you ask? Well, before this law many
schools and universities had separate entrances for male and female students. Honestly, did it really
matter what door you came in? Apparently, it did. I can see them having a problem with males and
females being in the same dormitories, for obvious reasons, but not letting a man and woman walk in
the same door to get to a classroom? That s a little ridiculous if you ask me. I know I could have never
lived happily in the past generations, because I have had the freedom of being my own self and having
the freedoms of every other race, gender, and social status for the most part. The effect Title IX has
played in my life comes in some major issues, as well as simple things such as being allowed to walk
through the same door as the man in front of me. What else did Title IX impact you ask? Being a
college student, a woman college student, I really appreciate the times now. According to Women s

scientists who are using the same methods and tests on the same virus cannot come to the same
conclusion, how could they be so unanimous in a more complicated subject like Bioidentical
Hormones? As for the FDA s decision that the risks of Bioidenticals are the same as those for
synthetic hormones, what are these opinions based on? Did the FDA test Bioidentical Hormones? Not
that I m aware of. They assumed that Bioidenticals work the same as synthetic hormones, which we
know might be in fact harmful. It s like assuming that a one dollar bill has the same value as a hundred
dollar bill, because they re the same size. On the other hand, proponents of Bioidentical Hormone
Replacement Therapy are saying that these hormones are safe and have almost no side effects. Two
French studies published in 2008 suggest that Bioidenticals are safer than conventional HRT.
According to Dr. Kent Holtorf s literature review bioidential hormones appears to be safer and more
potent then synthetic therefore physicians may opt for biodenticals for now unless new data is

The Natural Gas Industry in Kazakhstan
Overview Kazakhstan has the world s fifteen largest proved reserves of natural gas with an estimated
2.407 trillion cubic meters, ranking it between China and Malaysia in this respect (CIA World
Factbook, 2012). Most of these fields are in the country s western Caspian region. That basin is home
to some of the world s best oil and gas reserves. Other Caspian nations such as Russia, Iran and
Turkmenistan are all among top ten in the world for proved reserves of natural gas (Ibid). An
estimated 80% of Kazakhstan s production is locked in four fields: Karachaganak, Tengiz,
Imashevskoye and Kashagan. This paper will outline the natural gas industry is Kazakhstan, providing
insight into its history and the state of the industry today. History of Natural Gas in Kazakhstan The
Caspian Sea region has long been one of the richest in the world for fossil fuels. Azerbaijan was an
early power in oil, for example. The Soviet Union s vigorous defense of the region at Stalingrad not
only kept the oil out of the hands of the Axis powers, but it secured the region s hydrocarbon resources
for Soviet development. During the Soviet era, fields in what are today the independent nations of
Russia, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan were developed. After independence, Kazakhstan
has retained and upgraded the Soviet era infrastructure in order to develop its oil and natural gas
industries. Figures from the Energy Information Administration show that Kazakhstan s production of

Social Psychological Principles in the Movie Shrek (2001)
For most people, movies are made for entertainment. However, there are also movies that go beyond
merely entertaining its audience. There are films that have been created making use of psychological
principles, which enrich the movie viewing experience of audiences. This paper will focus on the
movie Shrek, which was released in 2001, directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson.
Shrek tells the story of a green ogre named Shrek and a princess named Fiona. Shrek was feared by all

Shrek told the donkey about the prejudice of people toward him. He told the donkey that people judge
him even before they get to know him. People see him as a big, stupid ogre who will eat them. And for
this reason, he doesn t want to get close to anyone. The people of Duloc are prejudiced against Shrek
because of how he looks, which is similar to how certain people are prejudiced based on the color of
their skin. Prejudice is also shown in the movie when Shrek goes to the town of Duloc and a man
wearing a big head gear sees him and runs away because he is an ogre. The man thinks that Shrek will
eat him so he ran away.
Lord Farquaad has prejudice against magical creatures. This is shown when he has ordered that the
magical creatures be exiled to the forest. This action also illustrates the discrimination that the magical
creatures experienced due to Lord Farquaad s personal prejudices. The magical creatures were showed
to be treated like criminals, taken into carts and placed in cages. Furthermore, Lord Farquaad also has
prejudice against ogres. He identifies and calls Shrek as it , connoting that he thinks of himself as

Breastfeeding Issues Essay
Breastfeeding issues
It is quite essential for the mother to nurse her own child by herself, there would be many factors
causing a problem while breastfeeding her child. It s common to face challenges at this age; I would
be jotting down some common breastfeeding issues and solutions to them as well. If these won t help,
it is advisable that you visit a medical expert nearby.
Baby doesn t latch
It can turn out to be frustrating things to deal having a baby that won t latch. It is one of the most
common problems.
The correct way to get your baby to latch is by getting naked from the waist up. Get your baby to a
semi reclining position only in its diaper. Keep his mouth on your chest, as soon as the baby is ready,
he might scoot down to the breast and should latch on. Skin to skin is a magical cure for a non
latching baby to get it latched. If you still have latch problems breastfeeding, consult help.
Sometimes, it is common that the baby sleeps within a few minutes after he gets latched, you might be
concerned whether he/she is even eating or not, the best way to figure that out is waking him/her up
and giving an eat signal, the way to do that is doing breast compressions allowing milk to flow, do that
gently so that you do not bruise yourself. The baby might respond to this by swallowing or sucking,
let go as soon as the sucking stops. Sometimes stroking the baby under his/her chin can also
encourage the baby to suck.

It is not normal to feel outright pain;

Final Reflection
Final essay I have learned so many things out of this class that would be very useful to me in the
future. Also, I don t think that if I truly want to write about all the things I have learned from this class
it would all fill a 2 pages paper. However, the three main things that I have retained from this include
how to write a response paper, how to read a book better, and how to better write essays.
Although, I have never written a response paper before; this class has taught me not only how to write
a response paper, but also how to write a response paper that would make me earn a good grade.
According to our literature book, a response paper is mostly about personal opinions and the
relationship between the essay you are writing about and your own personal life. However, it is
required to remain organized in order for your paper to make sense. Despite the fact that a response
paper is mostly an opinion essay, you still have to write about the things that happen in the essay you
are writing a response paper about. Also, you may use quotes of the essay in your paper to explain an
event that maybe has a different meaning to you rather than the book s explanation. I have also learned
to always give the citation of the book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

events on the side of the book. So, when I need to refer to the book over something, I would not have

reading in case I don t understand the meaning of a certain word. In addition, I have learned that while
reading a book that have questions, it might help to read the questions first before reading the essay.
This will help you read a little bit faster and you will have an idea of the main points in the

Electric Cars Vs Electric Cars
Throughout modern times we have seen and witnessed many advancements of technologies. One of
the major advancements in environmental friendly technology we have seen include electric vehicles.
Electric vehicles have brought us about many advantages, but there are reasons why electric vehicles
should cost more than conventional gasoline cars.
Electric car sales have raised to 2 million dollars in 2016 after being almost non existent in 2010. EV s
run on electricity, compared to conventional vehicles that use a gas or diesel powered engine. These
cars average around $1.14 per eGallon, compared to $3.65 a gallon for gas. Nevertheless they have a
major obstacle when it comes to entering and doing well in today s market due to the high price.
Electric cars use different parts that cost more to produce, therefore the parts used to make the electric
cars cause the price for the car to rise. Considering the cost for producing electric cars is so expensive,
companies need to charge a high price in order to make a profit. This proves that the price for electric
cars should be more expensive than gasoline powered vehicles because of the battery price, it s a new
market and the technological opportunities.
To create a battery that makes an electric car run there are many different components that need to be
taken into consideration. The cost for electric car battery by itself takes up about 25% 50% of the
electric vehicle price. The main component that contribute to the majority price

Analysis Of The Movie Trainspotting
The movie Trainspotting, released in the July of 1996, depicts a group of heroin addicts and their peers
eking out an existence in 1980 s Edinburgh, Scotland. Based on a 1993 book of the same name by
Irvine Welsh, the movie was a commercial success as well as critical one. It is ranked as the 10th best
British movie of All Time by the British Film Institute in 1999 (Best 100 British Films). When the
book was published Welsh was condemned for glamorizing heroin abuse, to which he responded that
he was only depicting what was going on, what he knew, and who he knew. The book and the movie
mirror the reality of the creation of an underclass in Edinburgh in the late 1970 s and 1980 s.
Historically opiates have been a part of Edinburgh since the late 1600 s. After heroin was synthesized
and began being used as a painkiller in 1894 Edinburgh became the capital of opiate production as
discussed in an article from The Guardian in 2009. The article quotes Michael Fry as saying By the
end of the 19th century, writes Fry, Edinburgh produced most of the world s opiate drugs, heroin
included. (Edemariam and Scott) In the 1980 s however the situation changed dramatically. Cheaper
heroin from South Asia became readily available which was met with a growing receptive audience.
The same outsourcing that created the US Rust Belt and condemned Detroit to become a shadow of
former self was felt in Scotland as well. So when that influx of drugs came in the early 80 s it was met

A music genre is a category of pieces of music that share a certain style or basic musical language
(van der Merwe 1989, p.3). The two articles that I will be comparing are Genres, Subgenres, Sub
Subgenres and More by Kembrew McLeod (2001) and On the Value of Popular Music by S. Firth
(1996). Categorizing music is especially challenging when it comes to fitting it into sub genres. As we
move through the ages, and technology and communication becomes more complex, newer and
unique genres are emerging. At first glance the more specific subgenres cause dispute and thoughts of
hipster emerge. Nonetheless, upon further inquiry, each of them makes cultural sense to be part of our

This creates bias, as it is not the same with male artists. Nevertheless, he discusses it is not definite
and that valid decisions in relation to popular music can be confusing as preferences are subject to

individual notions.
McLeod, Kembrew (2001) in his article Genres, Subgenres, Sub Subgenres and More identifies Firth s

commercial/cultural process . McLeod focusing mainly on the Electronic/Dance genre, makes an
adamant claim that introduction of new subgenre names into electronic/dance music communities is

the 1990s were male. Men have been in important positions

During the Gulf War, the state of Iraq suffered economic sanctions from the United States which

Therefore, the imposition of sanctions post 1990 had a particularly severe effect on Iraq s economy

Pros And Cons Rea Essay
With any criminal offence there are two elements to the crime; the Mens Rea and the Actus Reus.
The Mens Rea element is the mental part of the crime and requires proof that the defendant was in a
guilty state of mind before the defendant can be convicted of a crime. There are three different types
of Mens Rea; direct and oblique intention, recklessness and negligence. Intention is differs from
motive or desire. For example if defendant kills their wife who is suffering from a terminal illness, to
relieve their suffering, may well act out of good motives. Nevertheless, this does not prevent them
having the necessary intention to kill. Cases which demonstrate intention include R v Moloney [1985]

Following the case R v Cunningham [1957] 2 QB 396, reckless was put into question if the defendant
foresee the harm that in fact occurred, might occur from his actions, but continue regardless of the
risk. There are two different types of tests for reckless, subjective test and objective test. The difficulty
with a subjective test is that it is based entirely on the defendant s state of mind and it is for the
prosecution to prove that the defendant did anticipate the potential of harm.
Negligence is consequences caused by the actions of a person that fell below the standard of a
reasonable person. Negligence plays a minor role in criminal liability. It used to form the basis of
some driving offences but this has largely been superseded by recklessness. Cases for negligence
include R v Adomako [1994] 3 WLR 288, where an anaesthetist was charged with gross negligence
manslaughter after they failed to notice the oxygen pipe had been disconnected.
An Actus Reus consists of more than just an act. It also consists of whatever circumstances and
consequences are recognised for accountability for the offence in question, therefore all the elements

While it was not a major issue in the just concluded campaigns, the future of Texas infrastructure did
receive attention in the two major Texas political parties (Republican and Democratic). However, the
political parties reveal differing positions and philosophies on ways of tackling the issue. To be
specific, the Democrats believe that infrastructure is important to the future economic prosperity
(LePatner, 2010). Further, the party argues that broadband networks, schools, water systems, and
energy are some of the infrastructures that are readily ripe for investment. As such, the party hopes
that investments in such fields may help address other related issues such as unemployment too. Sadly,
the Democratic Party does not mention how additional funding would be injected in infrastructure.
Instead, the members weigh in on some tools that may be vital in helping Texas to fund infrastructure

in infrastructure by state and local governments by creating a lasting edition of the Build America

companies decide to franchise (Selig, 1998)
Franchising provides an effective method for raising capital to finance expansion.
Franchising enables the franchiser to pool resources, advertise and promote, achieve economies of
scale in purchases, expand internationally and develop new products and services.
Franchising provides the franchiser quality control, consistency, and uniformity over goods and
services produced and/or distributed as well as media, public relations, image and appearance.
Franchising provides flexibility for respond¬ing to changing customer needs and emerging markets
within a wide variety of sectors.
Individuals become franchisees for a number of reasons.
Individuals, who want to become business owners versus employees, are not comfortable doing it
alone, but are comfortable working within a framework such as a franchise.
Individuals want to pursue the American dream of achieving high rewards through risk sharing in a
quasi structured environment.
Individuals want the benefits of a franchiser s name recognition, network, systems, training, and
infrastructure to help establish and grow

Antidepressants Cause Birth Defects
The main argument being made is that some antidepressants can cause birth defects, the article
provides us with a study to help prove this. The study looked at data on more than 38,000 women who
had given birth in 1997 2009 and compared what the mother s antidepressants are and the child s
number of birth defects (Neighmond, 2015). One concept or idea that ties into child development is
epigenetics, where the environment influences or alters gene expression (Berk, 2018), which makes
me wonder if in some cases the child being exposed to an environment of a depressed mother, it may
cause some genes to alter. This also ties into the concept of passive gene environment, where parents
who are genetically related to the child set up the environment ... Show more content on

An example could be, if the mother or father is showing signs of depression, they may neglect to take
proper care for the child. Maybe because they are depressed, they may not focus all their time into the
child, rather focusing on their depression. A woman who avoids taking antidepressants during her
pregnancy to try and ensure her baby is born without defects could still have a child with some sort of
birth defect, other things can cause birth defects, such as current or prior drug use illegal or prescribed,
or in other cases that child is just genetically predisposed to it. Birth defects can happen due to genes
malfunctioning or even when there are problems with a chromosome (Berk, 2018). So, it is impossible
to say that a pregnant mother can avoid birth defects by not taking antidepressants. This idea is further
reinforced by Jennita Reefhuis in her abstract video when she cautions us that antidepressants are not
the only thing that can cause birth defects, other possibilities such as pre existing conditions in the
mother who takes antidepressants or other unknown influences may have a large impact on birth
defects as well (Reefhuis,

Persuasive Essay About Horse Slaughter
Would you kill your best friend after years of hard work together? I believe horse slaughter is a
necessary evil due to many different reasons. The first reason is due to horses that cannot be used
anymore due to health reasons. It would be wonderful to be able to afford a lame horse to sit on
pasture all day, but that is not always an option. Nobody is going to buy a lame horse when they can
buy a perfectly able horse for the same price. Where does a lame horse go? He goes to the auction and
a kill buyer buys him. He gets sent across the US border into Canada or Mexico to be slaughtered. He
has to suffer through the long trailer ride in horrendous conditions to the slaughter plant. Then, he
arrives at the slaughter plant. They open the trailer doors and he gets trampled by other horses trying
to get off. Now, he is injured and limps out of the trailer. All the horses are scared and they are
rounded into a pen. They are in the pen and get a chained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I own one and take care of her every day, but I also understand what goes on behind the scenes. I
know that not every horse can have a loving owner. I believe that if a horse is offered a humane death;
it is better than living its life unloved. My horse was an abuse case. She was born as a colorless paint
which means that she was supposed to be born with two or more colors but she was born with only
one color. Her breeder was upset and did not take care of her. She was finally rescued four years later
due to being severely malnourished and beaten. I found her six years later and she was still
malnourished. Now, she suffers with everyday joint issues and pain because of what she went through.
I almost wish they would have sent her off to slaughter for she would not have had to suffer. Horse
slaughter NEEDS to happen. There are too many horses on the earth, and not enough resources to feed
them. They are considered livestock, so I do not see any reason for them not to be

Tipping Point Discussion Questions Introduction 1) What was the point Gladwell makes with the
Hush Puppy story? Hush Puppy is a kind of classic American shoes which were considered to be old
fashioned in 1994. However, because no one would wear Hush Puppy in that age, this kind of shoes
became so unique and catch some fashion designer s attention, and then Hush Puppy became popular
again. Hush Puppy story is an example of epidemics in action, through this story, Gladwell
demonstrated the contagious behavior. 2) List the principles of change and epidemics. 1.

to all employees, some employees may resist those changes and causes whistleblower issues. Under
20/80 principles, the team may let about 20% of employees to work with the new rules and affect the
rest employees to accept those new rules. 5) How would you relate stickiness factor to the 4 P s in
Managing Transitions? 4P means Product, price, place and promotion. Stickiness factors can build
great brand awareness for a company through making customers remember the feature of a product
and the company s advantage in 4P . 6) How would you tie good or bad economic times to the power
of context ? Human behavior is sensitive to and strongly influenced by its environment. When the
economy starts recession, manufactures would shrink the volume of production, investor will invest
less and people will spend less money on new products, and as the result, which would causes the
economy become worse. And on the other hand, good economy leads people to buy more. 7) What is

Eighteenth Century Religious Change in Uncle Tom s Cabin...
Eighteenth Century Religious Change in Uncle Tom s Cabin and Moby Dick
The central religious themes of Uncle Tom s Cabin and Moby Dick reflect the turbulent and changing
religious climate of their time. In their use of themes from both traditional Calvinism and modern
reform, the syncretic efforts of both of these texts offers a response to the uncertainty and change of
the period. However, their uses of these themes are different; while Stowe used a precise focus on a
Christian polemic against slavery, Melville intentionally de centralized his text in a way that asks the
reader to look beyond the medium of expression to the truth which lays behind it, but cannot be
contained in it.
In this paper, I will investigate the shift in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neither one of them can be precisely placed in any of the religious categories of the period; Calvinism
(both orthodox and reformed), Unitarianism, Transcendentalism, and liberal Christocentric humanism
all exerted definite influences on both works, but both works similarly resist direct placement not only
because of the syncretic nature of their programs, but the fluidity of these very traditions. Therefore,
while some hesitancy is a necessary hazard of such a investigation, it nevertheless preserves a respect
for the complexity of the religious history involved.
With this much said precautionarily, it is nevertheless possible to place both of these works in the
climate of questioning, re definition, and uncertainty which occurred in the American political and
social scenes as part of this religious shift. The first important factor in this shift was the Second Great
Awakening; while William McLoughlin dates its conclusion at 1830, it had an important influence on
both of these works which were composed between 1850 and 1852. This movement established a
break from the Calvinism of Jonathan Edwards through both in popular form of revivals and its
connection to the more elite movement of Unitarianism, and thus set a precedent for later religious
reform.
The concept of American nationhood was challenged in the early eighteenth century on

The Epistolary Form Of Writing
The epistle in its most basic form is simply a letter, with the epistolary form in the Eighteenth Century
being a published letter often from one writer to another. This mode of writing was extremely popular
in the Eighteenth Century, taking on different contexts for different purposes. An epistle can be a
complex genre of writing. The Epistle can be a collection of poems, a satirical essay, a response to an
author s works or a raging sparring of words. Although quite constraining in format, an epistle
addressed to someone, be it explicit or not can capture the minds of many.
The epistle is notably an ancient form of writing, originating in Egypt as early as 1292 BC. However,
the scholars of Ancient Greece and Rome made the formulae of ... Show more content on

Horace s work does indeed showcase his view of literary culture of that time, highlighting the change
that is occurring and setting rules and boundaries of writing poetry.
From Ancient Greece to Eighteenth Century England the epistle s importance still remains. With the
Ancients vs Moderns argument being in full effect, this added leverage to the use of the epistle in
satire, reproducing the epistolary form as Greats before them had also used. The difference between
Modern thinkers were in stark contrast to the Neo Classical thinkers of the time. The Neo Classical
Aesthetic embodied a group of attitudes towards art and human existence. That of order, logic,
restraint, accuracy, decorum and correctness was favoured over the Renaissance thinkers that believed
imagination, invention, experimentation and mysticism was more important to feature in Literature.
The Augustan Age in which Pope, being a central poetic figure at that time had the most famous and
well recognised modern epistles written both by him and also aimed at him.
Criticism was increasingly popular in the 18th Century, with enjoyment coming from both the original
text and the opinions and responses to the text by others. Of course, Pope perceived some criticism as
incorrect and a personal attack on his own being rather than input on his actual body of work. These
attacks, however, motivate Alexander Pope further, giving him more material

Overview of Barbara Dossey s Nursing Theory
Nursing Theory: Barbara Dossey
Context of the development of the theory Barbara Dossey is truly a visionary in the holistic nursing
movement and her theory is able to further the development of holistic nursing in its entirety as well
as bolster patient outcomes. The context in which the theory was developed was in relation and
connection to the products and ideas of Ken Wilbur, in an attempt to fortify the fundamental concept
of healing (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey s four quadrant model in certain respects is a reaction to
and influenced by the work of Wilbur, namely that his volumes stress that no particular or sole
researcher, philosopher or theorist can describe, establish or clarify the constituents of reality (Dossey
Keegan, 2003). Dossey and Keegan emphasize that the obstacle and objectives in nursing is to bolster
one s integral awareness while boosting one s overall strengths and abilities in nursing in general
(2003). Ultimately, the theory developed in the context of the belief that healing occurs when the
delicate balance and harmony of body and mind and spirit is successfully addressed and how ancient
ideas can be effectively integrated in the realm of caring for patient in everyday living
(Dosseydossey.com).
Nursing Conceptualized in the Theory This theory recognizes how the meta paradigm of nurse,
individual, health/wellbeing, surrounding environment (also known as society) have to be
acknowledged (Dossey Keegan, 2013). The nurse plays a strong

The Myth Of Sisyphus
With everything going on with the upcoming presidential election, the political community has been
very prominent in society the past several months. While doing research on myths, I came across The
Myth of Sisyphus and immediately made many connections between the two subjects. Both of these
topics have a lot to do with manipulation and deception. With politics especially, people today have a
lot of opinions on the dynamics of that community. They both deal with continuous repetition and
constantly giving your all to make accomplish a task. What is interesting though is exactly to what
extent can The Myth of Sisyphus be related to our modern day political community? The main gist of

Why Appeasement Was Justified
The Policy of Appeasement Was Justified.
From the early 1940s, historians have been arguing about Chamberlain s policy of Appeasement. They
have divided their views into two camps: some thought appeasement was cowardly and stupid as it
encouraged Hitler to command more and more every time; other historians completely supported
Chamberlain and his pact as it gained time and made a lot of sense at that point.
Appeasement is a policy of pacifying an aggressor through giving in to their demands, thus
maintaining peace. From Latin, it is translated as to bring to peace. In the 1930s, it had a similar
meaning to negotiation. Neville Chamberlain tried to negotiate peace with Hitler when the League of
Nations, especially the collective security, had crumbled. Appeasement was considered worth trying.
During World War One, Great Britain and France experienced a good deal of suffering over four
years. Neville Chamberlain did not want to bring his nation back to that state. The British population,
especially the youth, wanted to live in peace. All of them still remembered how the bombs were
dropped on their houses, how their fathers and brothers did not return from the front. Around 10
million lives were taken away for nothing. Therefore, Neville Chamberlain tried his best to meet all of
Hitler s demands in order not to start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, people did not have the will to fight. The country could not support any war. Firstly, her
arm forces were much smaller and powerless compared to the German s. At that time, the Wehrmacht
had just finished a rearmament programme. By 1938, they had expanded to have 41 divisions and six
corps deployed across Germany and Austria. Also, they had fully developed their land and air forces.
They had more than 13 million soldiers in service. Great Britain could not defeat such a powerful
opponent. An agreement would give the opportunity to gain time and

How Much Attention And Nurturing Children Receive
How much attention and nurturing children receive does, in fact, affect how they will develop as
adolescents and adults in areas of personality, emotion, and social interaction. John Bowlby, a British
researcher, a child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, is well known in Psychology for his research
specializing in parent or primary caregiver child relationships. His research influenced Mary
Ainsworth who later became his research assistant and continued his research on attachment after his
death. Being neglected as a child by parents and caregivers, he understood the negative effects of
growing up lonely and detached. John Bowlby founded the attachment theory, an essential theory in
Psychology that reveals the negative impact of neglect and is now used as a reference to understand its
effects. The theory is an important advance in Developmental Psychology because children were now
viewed as vulnerable and need the care to develop to their full potential development. Therefore,
methods of how to understand and interact with the victims of neglect were needed for professionals
in the fields of medicine, law, and education.
Being born into an upper class family in the 20th century, John Bowlby was a prime example of a
victim of neglect. Upper class families often left their children to caregivers and seldom interacted
with them, similar to Bowlby s case. Elizabeth Carr and Mauricio Cortina in Heinz Kohut and John

  • 2. Colonialism And Poverty The foremost cause of global poverty is colonialism. After Christopher Columbus discovered the new world in 1492, Europeans invaded the Americas, Africa, and East Asia. Today, these places are some of the most affected by poverty. The poverty persists because the peoples of these places were killed and enslaved. Their land, natural resources, and way of life were stolen by the colonizers. The colonizers forced the colonies to shift from subsistence farming to cash crops, obliterating the natural economy. Since they only grew cash crops, they were forced to buy European goods. The economy of the colonies became locked and they became completely dependent on the colonizing country. Soon, the colonies found themselves in debt to their colonizers. What little money these colonies were able to make went to repay the debt, instead of going toward the development of the colony. Additionally, since they were indebted to them, their colonizers had control over their economy. The creditors took full advantage of this and forced the colonies to adopt neoliberalism and privatize companies and resources, which plunged even more people into absolute poverty. Even when many of these colonies became their own independent countries, the documentary mentioned that the debt was transferred over to the new country, even though this was a violation of international law. This same system continues to this day and everyday more and more people find themselves in poverty. In my opinion, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The City Of The Great Metropolis There was a house in the great Metropolis older than the city. Many said that it was older than the cathedral, and that before the Archangel Michael raised his voice as advocate in the conflict for God, the house stood there in its evil gloom, defying the cathedral from out its dull eyes. The house had lived through the time of smoke and soot. Every year which passed over the city crept, when dying, into this house, until at last the house was a cemetery filled with dead years. Set into the black wood of the door stood, copper red and mysterious, the seal of Solomon, the pentagram. It was said that a magician, who came from the East (and in the track of whom the plague wandered) had built the house in seven nights. But the masons and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They died, and no doctor knew the illness. The house resisted its destruction with so great a force that word of its malignity went out over the borders of the city, spreading far over the land. At last, there was no honest man who would have ventured to make war against the house. Yes, even the thieves and the rogues, who were promised remission of their sentence provided they declared themselves ready to pull down the magician s house, preferred to go to the pillory, or even to the scaffold, rather than enter the spiteful walls, past the latchless doors, which were sealed with Solomon s seal. The little town around the cathedral became a large town and grew into Metropolis, and into the center of the world. One day there came to the town a man from far away, who saw the house and said, I want to have that. He was initiated into the story of the house. He did not smile. He stood by his resolution. He bought the house at a very low price, moved in at once and kept it unaltered. This man was named Rotwang. Few knew him. Only Joh Fredersen knew him very well. It would have been easier for Joh Fredersen to fight out the quarrel about the cathedral with the sect of Gothics than to quarrel with Rotwang about the magician s house. In Metropolis, in this city of reasoned, methodical hurry, very many would go far out of their way rather than to pass close by Rotwang s house. It hardly reached to the knees of the giants standing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Jordan Peele Get Out Analysis Have you ever considered why you feel a powerful desire for horror films? According to Stephen King, we crave horror films to show we are not afraid, to re establish our sense of normality, and to give an outlet to our anti civilization emotions. (Why We Crave Horror Films) Jordan Peele s film challenges white people, who live in social environments, protected and isolated from race based stress. They re provided with racial comfort, yet they have a lower tolerance for racial pressure. Jordan Peele s film, deals with the more common forms of racism, but it focuses more on the progressive liberal whites and how they contribute to silencing African Americans, causing them to be trapped in the sunken place. Get Out follows the story of Chris, a young black man who has been dating Rose, a young white girl for five months. Rose takes Chris to meet her parents Missy and Dean who seem totally normal at first. Chris starts to get creeped out by everything happening at the Armitage house. Chris wonders if these things are actually happening or he is just being paranoid. According to critiques the film Get Out is classified as a horror film. Missy uses hypnosis to deprive her victims of their will causing zombie ism in the film. In Get Out, the protagonist Chris, a young black man, is a New York City photographer. • 7. Double Standards In The Importance Of Being Earnest Oscar Wilde, playwright of the play The Importance of Being Earnest, uses the relationships and interactions of his characters to satirize the moral beliefs and customs of Victorian Era England. Wilde s play follows the life of Jack Worthington who is trying to earn the approval of his fiancee, Gwendolen s, mother in order to marry her. Lady Bracknell s disapproval stems from the ambiguity of Jack s birthright, despite him being a wealthy man. Her disapproval serves as a mockery to Victorian society and its upheaval of social status and wealth above love and companionship as the basis of marriage. This is seen again when, despite her initial refusal, Lady Bracknell allows her nephew, Algernon, to marry Jack s ward Cecily after hearing of her vast wealth. Her approval of this relationship further mocks the Victorian belief that monetary gains is the most important aspects when considering marriage. With these two separate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite Cecily being orphaned just like Jack, because she is a girl with wealth and status, she is held at a lower standard than Jack, a man of her same caliber, when Lady Bracknell is mulling over the prospect of marriage. With this situation, Wilde reveals the double standard of Victorian society that still lasts until this day. This double standard also relates to marrying up into wealth. Lady Bracknell, despite coming from an impoverished background, is allowed to marry a wealthy and aristocratic man. But when Jack asks to marry Gwendolen, he is subjected to a lengthy interview in which he must prove that he has enough wealth to support her. Again, Wilde puts his characters into common Victorian England situations to mock the practice involving marriage, wealth and status. Wilde manages to provoke thought into his readers and audience to question the values they grew up learning about through the actions and interactions that his characters must face to reach their ... The Influence Of Thomas Jefferson s Monticello Thomas Jefferson´s Monticello Thomas Jefferson once said that Architecture is my delight, and putting up and pulling down, one of my favorite amusements. He spent much of his life putting up and pulling down, most notably during the forty year construction of the Monticello. Influenced by his readings of ancient and modern architectural writings, Jefferson gleaned the best from both his readings and from his observations in Europe, creating his own personal style of architecture, a mix of Neoclassicism s Roman temples, and Palladian villa. These sales often involve a significant amount of field testing by the direct sales force, giving Tasteless a competitive advantage. Tasteless heavily advertises its products in trade magazines and attracts individual sales through advertising in media such as health care magazines. Individual clients include CEOs of Fortune 1000 companies, as well as individuals from coast tocoast. Management s objective is to establish Tasteless as the most recognized and respected tea brand in the U.S. market, eventually supplanting Lipton Tea as the market leader in tea brand recognition and tea sales in both the higher end and lower end tea markets. While Tasteless currently is experiencing some sharp growing pains, the good news is the growing interest in different types of non traditional beverages, combined with increasingly health conscious baby boomers and younger adults. These factors have tripled sales over the past five years ending December 31, 2008. At the same time, new local and regional competitors with a bevy of new products are offering fast delivery from local production centers and in some cases lower prices, challenging Tasteless for retail shelf space. These investigations led to production of 8.4 tons of gold annually [1]. These successes led several other gold mining companies to follow with bioleaching processes. Today bioleaching of gold containing ore has become increasingly important as bioleaching technology progresses and gold reserves become increasingly depleted. 2.2 TYPES OF BIOLEACHING Types of bioleaching of gold ore can be divided into three categories. Each method offers various advantages. Selection of the bioleaching type for a specific application depends on several factors including: the ore composition, gold content, surrounding environment and amount of available reserves. 2.2.1 BIOREACTORS Bioreactors are employed when the value of the gold recovery is sufficient to justify the costs of installing and operating the necessary equipment. Bioreactors are able to process less gold ore at one time, but create a much faster oxidation process. This process usually utilizes higher grade ores compared to heap leaching. This type of bioleaching is characterized by a reactor tank in which relatively finely ground ore and nutrients are added, as well as bacteria containing solution to create a slurry (Figure 1). This mixture is then mechanically or air agitated. A 51 year old Caucasian male with DSM V Major Depressive Disorder, recurrent, severe, non psychotic and Generalized Anxiety Disorder was treated with 600 mg/day of CYP2D6 inhibitor bupropion XL (a common antidepressant drug) and a 60 mg BID oral dose of Dextromethorphan. The patient showed improvement in major depressive disorder without side effects. This case study was the first to show the fast acting effect of Dextromethorphan in major depressive disorder in humans. This adds to the building literature on the antidepressant effects observed in Dextromethorphan. The report suggested the administration of other common antidepressants with Dextromethorphan, such as lithium might prolong the duration of the rapid antidepressant effect [19]. Although this case report illustrates that Dextromethorphan has rapid antidepressant effects in humans, there are very few clinical trial on the effect of Dextromethorphan on major depressive disorder. Essay On Splitup Function This splitup function helps in coming out of the problem associated with DBSCAN as it aims to partition highly uniform datasets, which may be incorrectly identified as a single cluster if DBSCAN is called with a reasonable large s reachability value (Usually the density based algorithm forms relatively less clusters based on the density even when there is a need to further divide the clusters). This splitup function is also useful for some datasets that present specific challenges for the density based algorithm such as those with large discrepancies in density. When there is a situation which leads into a dilemma in which clusters to split, this function takes the strength of the cluster as well as the distance between the new clusters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The initial centroid for the top cluster is the data point far away from the original cluster s centroid. To find the initial location of the centroid of the bottom cluster, we draw a vector starting at the original cluster s centroid and ending at the top cluster s centroid. This vector is then set to point in the opposite direction of the top centroid. The endpoint of this mirrored vector is used as the initial centroid for the bottom cluster. This entire process of splitting the cluster results in the initial centroids for top and bottom being as far away from each other as possible. Figure 3. A pseudocode of the mirroring function used in the weighted split function of our CluDataSE. The complete dataset points of the original cluster are then assigned to either the top or bottom clusters, depending on which centroid is closer. Once all the data points have been assigned to some cluster, the top and bottom clusters are then checked to have at least minimum points of data points. If either the top or the bottom cluster contains less than minimum points of data points, then the split is considered invalid. In this case, the original cluster remains the same without further classification, and, the top and bottom clusters formed using splitup function are discarded. If a split has occurred, the two new clusters, top and bottom are stored in a list of new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Summary Of The Scripture Way Of Salvation By John Wesley John Wesley argued Christian perfection throughout his ministry. His quest was holy living. Wesley was focused with the life of holiness than with the philosophy concerning holiness and he was engrossed in the experience than in its principles. When Wesley talked about development in holiness, and the fundamental goal of being entire sanctification, he was fixed that sanctification and justification is by faith. In his preaching, The Scripture Way of Salvation , Wesley expounded the faith by which Christians are perfected is because God is able, he promised in Scripture, he is willing, and he really does it 1) God has foretold this in Scripture. 2) What God promises, God is able to do. 3) God is capable and willing to manage it right away. 4) God actually answers this. Wesley concluded the sermon by exhorting his audience expect it by faith, expect it as you are, and expect it now! One of the major advancements in environmental friendly technology we have seen include electric vehicles. Electric vehicles have brought us about many advantages, but there are reasons why electric vehicles should cost more than conventional gasoline cars. Electric car sales have raised to 2 million dollars in 2016 after being almost non existent in 2010. EV s run on electricity, compared to conventional vehicles that use a gas or diesel powered engine. These cars average around $1.14 per eGallon, compared to $3.65 a gallon for gas. Nevertheless they have a major obstacle when it comes to entering and doing well in today s market due to the high price. Electric cars use different parts that cost more to produce, therefore the parts used to make the electric cars cause the price for the car to rise. Considering the cost for producing electric cars is so expensive, companies need to charge a high price in order to make a profit. This proves that the price for electric cars should be more expensive than gasoline powered vehicles because of the battery price, it s a new market and the technological opportunities. When the book was published Welsh was condemned for glamorizing heroin abuse, to which he responded that he was only depicting what was going on, what he knew, and who he knew. The book and the movie mirror the reality of the creation of an underclass in Edinburgh in the late 1970 s and 1980 s. Historically opiates have been a part of Edinburgh since the late 1600 s. After heroin was synthesized and began being used as a painkiller in 1894 Edinburgh became the capital of opiate production as discussed in an article from The Guardian in 2009. The article quotes Michael Fry as saying By the end of the 19th century, writes Fry, Edinburgh produced most of the world s opiate drugs, heroin included. • 37. Pros And Cons Rea Essay With any criminal offence there are two elements to the crime; the Mens Rea and the Actus Reus. The Mens Rea element is the mental part of the crime and requires proof that the defendant was in a guilty state of mind before the defendant can be convicted of a crime. There are three different types of Mens Rea; direct and oblique intention, recklessness and negligence. Intention is differs from motive or desire. For example if defendant kills their wife who is suffering from a terminal illness, to relieve their suffering, may well act out of good motives. Nevertheless, this does not prevent them having the necessary intention to kill. Cases which demonstrate intention include R v Moloney [1985] AC 905 and R v Inglis [2011] 1 WLR 1110. Direct ... The difficulty with a subjective test is that it is based entirely on the defendant s state of mind and it is for the prosecution to prove that the defendant did anticipate the potential of harm. Negligence is consequences caused by the actions of a person that fell below the standard of a reasonable person. Negligence plays a minor role in criminal liability. It used to form the basis of some driving offences but this has largely been superseded by recklessness. Cases for negligence include R v Adomako [1994] 3 WLR 288, where an anaesthetist was charged with gross negligence manslaughter after they failed to notice the oxygen pipe had been disconnected. The following study focuses on the deteriorating transportation infrastructure as a major issue facing the state of Texas. While it was not a major issue in the just concluded campaigns, the future of Texas infrastructure did receive attention in the two major Texas political parties (Republican and Democratic). However, the political parties reveal differing positions and philosophies on ways of tackling the issue. To be specific, the Democrats believe that infrastructure is important to the future economic prosperity (LePatner, 2010). Further, the party argues that broadband networks, schools, water systems, and energy are some of the infrastructures that are readily ripe for investment. As such, the party hopes that investments in such fields may help address other related issues such as unemployment too. Sadly, the Democratic Party does not mention how additional funding would be injected in infrastructure. Instead, the members weigh in on some tools that may be vital in helping Texas to fund infrastructure projects (Schiller, Bruun, Kenworthy, 2010). The study looked at data on more than 38,000 women who had given birth in 1997 2009 and compared what the mother s antidepressants are and the child s number of birth defects (Neighmond, 2015). One concept or idea that ties into child development is epigenetics, where the environment influences or alters gene expression (Berk, 2018), which makes me wonder if in some cases the child being exposed to an environment of a depressed mother, it may cause some genes to alter. This also ties into the concept of passive gene environment, where parents who are genetically related to the child set up the environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example could be, if the mother or father is showing signs of depression, they may neglect to take proper care for the child. Maybe because they are depressed, they may not focus all their time into the child, rather focusing on their depression. A woman who avoids taking antidepressants during her pregnancy to try and ensure her baby is born without defects could still have a child with some sort of birth defect, other things can cause birth defects, such as current or prior drug use illegal or prescribed, or in other cases that child is just genetically predisposed to it. Birth defects can happen due to genes malfunctioning or even when there are problems with a chromosome (Berk, 2018). So, it is impossible to say that a pregnant mother can avoid birth defects by not taking antidepressants. This idea is further reinforced by Jennita Reefhuis in her abstract video when she cautions us that antidepressants are not the only thing that can cause birth defects, other possibilities such as pre existing conditions in the mother who takes antidepressants or other unknown influences may have a large impact on birth defects as well (Reefhuis, ... The first reason is due to horses that cannot be used anymore due to health reasons. Nobody is going to buy a lame horse when they can buy a perfectly able horse for the same price. Where does a lame horse go? He goes to the auction and a kill buyer buys him. Eighteenth Century Religious Change in Uncle Tom s Cabin and Moby Dick The central religious themes of Uncle Tom s Cabin and Moby Dick reflect the turbulent and changing religious climate of their time. In their use of themes from both traditional Calvinism and modern reform, the syncretic efforts of both of these texts offers a response to the uncertainty and change of the period. However, their uses of these themes are different; while Stowe used a precise focus on a Christian polemic against slavery, Melville intentionally de centralized his text in a way that asks the reader to look beyond the medium of expression to the truth which lays behind it, but cannot be contained in it. Neither one of them can be precisely placed in any of the religious categories of the period; Calvinism (both orthodox and reformed), Unitarianism, Transcendentalism, and liberal Christocentric humanism all exerted definite influences on both works, but both works similarly resist direct placement not only because of the syncretic nature of their programs, but the fluidity of these very traditions. Therefore, while some hesitancy is a necessary hazard of such a investigation, it nevertheless preserves a respect for the complexity of the religious history involved. With this much said precautionarily, it is nevertheless possible to place both of these works in the climate of questioning, re definition, and uncertainty which occurred in the American political and social scenes as part of this religious shift. The first important factor in this shift was the Second Great Awakening; while William McLoughlin dates its conclusion at 1830, it had an important influence on both of these works which were composed between 1850 and 1852. This movement established a break from the Calvinism of Jonathan Edwards through both in popular form of revivals and its connection to the more elite movement of Unitarianism, and thus set a precedent for later religious reform. The Epistolary Form Of Writing The epistle in its most basic form is simply a letter, with the epistolary form in the Eighteenth Century being a published letter often from one writer to another. • 46. Overview of Barbara Dossey s Nursing Theory Nursing Theory: Barbara Dossey Context of the development of the theory Barbara Dossey is truly a visionary in the holistic nursing movement and her theory is able to further the development of holistic nursing in its entirety as well as bolster patient outcomes. The context in which the theory was developed was in relation and connection to the products and ideas of Ken Wilbur, in an attempt to fortify the fundamental concept of healing (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey s four quadrant model in certain respects is a reaction to and influenced by the work of Wilbur, namely that his volumes stress that no particular or sole researcher, philosopher or theorist can describe, establish or clarify the constituents of reality (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey and Keegan emphasize that the obstacle and objectives in nursing is to bolster one s integral awareness while boosting one s overall strengths and abilities in nursing in general (2003). Ultimately, the theory developed in the context of the belief that healing occurs when the delicate balance and harmony of body and mind and spirit is successfully addressed and how ancient ideas can be effectively integrated in the realm of caring for patient in everyday living (Dosseydossey.com). They have divided their views into two camps: some thought appeasement was cowardly and stupid as it encouraged Hitler to command more and more every time; other historians completely supported Chamberlain and his pact as it gained time and made a lot of sense at that point. Appeasement is a policy of pacifying an aggressor through giving in to their demands, thus maintaining peace. From Latin, it is translated as to bring to peace. In the 1930s, it had a similar meaning to negotiation. Neville Chamberlain tried to negotiate peace with Hitler when the League of Nations, especially the collective security, had crumbled. Appeasement was considered worth trying. During World War One, Great Britain and France experienced a good deal of suffering over four years. Neville Chamberlain did not want to bring his nation back to that state. The British population, especially the youth, wanted to live in peace. How Much Attention And Nurturing Children Receive How much attention and nurturing children receive does, in fact, affect how they will develop as adolescents and adults in areas of personality, emotion, and social interaction. John Bowlby, a British researcher, a child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, is well known in Psychology for his research specializing in parent or primary caregiver child relationships. His research influenced Mary Ainsworth who later became his research assistant and continued his research on attachment after his death. Being neglected as a child by parents and caregivers, he understood the negative effects of growing up lonely and detached. John Bowlby founded the attachment theory, an essential theory in Psychology that reveals the negative impact of neglect and is now used as a reference to understand its effects. The theory is an important advance in Developmental Psychology because children were now viewed as vulnerable and need the care to develop to their full potential development. Therefore, methods of how to understand and interact with the victims of neglect were needed for professionals in the fields of medicine, law, and education. Being born into an upper class family in the 20th century, John Bowlby was a prime example of a victim of neglect.
