Strategic Action Disney On Consumer Focused Initiative Essay
Assessment 1 MKT 220 Buyer Behavior Submitted by: Eirenne Lucia V. Reyes 14095156B Stream B
Submitted to: Anika Vats Date: May 13, 2015 Part A Question 1: Which strategic action Disney took
in terms of consumer focused initiative? Give examples. (15 marks) In 1992, Euro Disney was
launched in Paris. This project unexpectedly received undesirable feedback from its target market
since the company wrongly assumed that it would be easily accepted by the Western European market.
Disney received criticisms and negative publicity as they were thought to have brought American
imperialism into Europe and the French government acquired farmland just to create the theme park
which resulted to protests from the French farmers. Cultural issues also arose as most of its employees
did not accept well the management style and the dress code, the customers were not satisfied with the
language used in the theme park, with the ban of alcohol consumption, the pricing of tickets and
merchandise, etc. The company learned that they had to be aware and have a full understanding of the
culture of their host nation and apply it to the operations of the theme park; and this is the main
strategic action that they had to pursue in order to capture the desires and interest of their customers.
As a result, Euro Disney was changed to Paris Disneyland to strengthen the identity and nationalism
of the theme park in relation with its host nation, France, and in turn the French were

Nike s Company Strategy Is A Clever One
Strengths
Company owns no factories: Nike s company strategy is a clever one. While still in school at Stanford,
the founder Phil Knight thought that instead of paying Americans to put together Nike s shoes, Knight
believed that it would be best to take their manufacturing plants oversees, to places where the labor
would be immensely cheaper than in the United States, for example South Korea and Taiwan. With 86
percent of Nike s products being manufactured in one of the aforementioned countries and Nike
employing a large number of people who lived there, both countries shared in the riches until the
founder decided prices were too high to manufacture there anymore.
Global Market Leader: The footwear and sportswear industry causes constant demand for new
footwear technology around the world and no company has maintained a share in every major market
around the world, like Nike. Nike has the chance to go to countries like India, where the economies
and social statuses of people are changing and growing to allow for companies like Nike to sell their
products. Despite all of the opportunities Nike has in the industry, competition has been strengthening
and the market of fake goods has been growing within the past ten years.
Innovative Culture: The culture of inventing new things is a strong core competency for the Nike
brand. The things left for the future by such invention of new things in search of better, lighter, faster
product performance changes and

Religion, Poverty, and Wealth Essay
Religion, Poverty, and Wealth
Christians believe strongly in world equality, as they feel that they have a responsibility to care for the
poor and needy. These responsibilities are based upon the five key Christian ideas
1. Stewardship
Genesis (1: 28 31)
In this story God creates Adam and Eve. He builds a beautiful house and a beautiful garden with trees
laden with ripe and delicious fruit for them to live in. Pick the fruit and eat it freely, God told them,
but do not eat the fruit from the tree in the middle as it is evil, and if eaten you will die. One day a
cunning snake persuaded Eve to eat a piece of fruit from the forbidden tree. After much persuasion
Eve reluctantly took ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Lord Elijah was enraged and cursed the King s family for eternity.
The moral of this story is to not use your power to demand personal and sentimental belongings from
others. But Bob Geldof has twisted this parable by using his power to help poverty stricken people
(Make Poverty History fund).
3. Human life is sacred
Genesis (1: 26 27)
All men and women are created equal. In Genesis we are told that every individual is special because
we are all made in the image of God. Rich or poor we are all of equal importance and every life is
sacred.
This teaching is emphasising Christians to treat everyone equally disregarding their creed, colour,
culture or finical purposes.
4. The Golden rule
Luke (10: 25 37)
The Good Samaritan
There was once a Jew who was travelling along a long and dangerous road. All of a sudden a group of
robbers beat him and stole his belongings, they left him stripped and half dead by the roadside. A
priest walked past and saw the body, but quickly moved on, afterwards a Levite walked past and did
the same thing. Then a Samaritan walked past, no Jew had ever been nice to him, but he still helped
the injured man by wrapping his wounds in bandages. He carefully lifted him onto his donkey and
took him to the nearest inn, ordering the inn keeper to look after and treat the injured

Dr King Qualities
Understanding what it takes to be a great leader Anyone has the potential to be a leader, but it takes a
strong and willing person to be a great leader. First and foremost a leader must be willing to take
responsibility, for he s own action and the action of others, and be willing to step up to the plate at all
times. He must be willing to listen at time, for advice from those who he leads. Great leaders take a
firm stand for their followers, they never gives up on achieving their goals, they are dedicated and
they push for excellent. They stay focus, they embrace the needs and wants of other people, they
commit to people who stand with them, and those who are committed to them. People that are leader
are normally well organized, considerate of others and will set the pace by example. Some people

King visioned a life that all people would be counted equal, that Blacks and White would one day be
able to sit and dine together, share a seat on the bus and drink from the same fountain. His dreams
were for all mankind to come together as brothers and sisters. He understood that our skins were of
different shade, but our blood was the same. Dr. King visioned a world of love and peace. Dr. King
was one of the greatest leader ever know, he was determine to push for the right of the people. He
called us to act then and continues to call us to action now. Dr. King reminds us that what we do today
influences tomorrow. In fact, he wrote, we are faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are
confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history there is
such a thing as being too late. Procrastination is still the thief of time (King, 1967, p. 191).
(EDWARDS, 2010). Yes, I agree that Dr. King was a great leader because he was a lead of the people
no matter what race, religious belief or where they came from. He went to jail to continue the fight for
freedom. Dr. King lived up to his word until the day he

Differences Between Arab Immigrants And White Race
Arab immigrants living in the Western society often compare their identity to the White race. The two
main factors that differentiate the Arab immigrants and the Western White race are the two factors of
gender and religion. Gender relations is often associated with Arabs creating their identity compared
to the whites, this is because gender is associated with gender roles and the hierarchy of power
(Ajrouch, 2004, p. 372). Another type of comparison is the factor of religion; White Christians often
follow the Bible, which talk about the ideal breadwinner man and caretaker women. But, studies have
shown that between Christians and White women both were affected by religiosity and ethnicity that
relate to traditional gender roles (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 374) In the western society, Arab women can
choose to accept or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This word is often associated with recent Arab immigrants who have not fully adopted the mainstream
culture (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 379). Moreover, the boater identity was seen as undesirable label, therefore,
more immigrants worked hard to get rid of this label over time to be considered Arab American
(Ajrouch, 2004, p. 380). Conflicts also arise between girls who wear hijabs and those who choose not
too; girls who wear hijabs are seen as morally superior which symbolizes the pinnacle of respect and
distances themselves from the idea of freedom (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 383). Another aspect compares the
relation between Arab men and women; women are expected to adhere to the religious restrictions as
it enhances their worth. An example of this would be Arab girls not getting into relationship or doing
anything sexually with a guy; this is a double standard that the men do not have to follow through with
and only perpetuates the idea of the social hierarchy with men on

Police Brutality And The Law Enforcement
Police Brutality The duties of law enforcement involve looking after the American people. As the Los
Angeles Police Department puts it, it is the police s duty to Protect and Serve the community. As
Americans, we should expect to be able to rely on local police to solve our problems and bring peace
and stability to society. Yet, as current events have shown, these promises are not always fulfilled.
Since the late 1960s, America has begun to grow from a racially segregated nation, into one of unity
and equality. Today there is no doubt that immense progress has been made, however events involving
our law enforcement and minorities has seemed to halt such progress. Police brutality continues to be
a major issue nationwide with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recently, the public has begun to once again rise up against such heinous crimes that seem to hail
from an era before civil rights.
Police brutality notoriously rose during the 1990s. The most guilty of this was the Los Angeles Police
Department. After the introduction of crack cocaine plagued the streets of American cities, Los
Angeles took the initiative of upgrading its CRASH Unit (Community Resources Against Street
Hoodlums). By April 1988, nearly 1,567 minorities were arrested on just one weekend, yet about 10%
of these arrests actually led to felony convictions. By 1998, the CRASH unit was embroiled once
again in a scandal known as the Rampart Scandal. More than seventy officers assigned to the Rampart
Division were accused of strong police misconduct. These officers were accused of targeting
minorities and planting evidence on these victims, framing them to higher their positions in the LAPD.
(Source #3) In the middle of all this, one case would implant the image of police brutality to all
Americans for years to come. On March 4, 1991, an African American man named Rodney King had
been drinking earlier in the night and was on his way home, speeding on the highway which brought
attention to an officer stationed there and proceed to pursue King. After attempting to outrun police,
King was eventually cornered by police. What would be expected to be a quick arrest after being
pulled over quickly turned brutal. As King exited

Testimonial Speech
Testimonial Speech I am delighted to be a part of this gala evening, and especially pleased to have the
opportunity to share some of my thoughts and observations about this evening s honoree and my good
friend, Cliff Kendall. Leader of the year certainly the term fits Cliff like a glove. But look around the
room. This place is filled with leaders. This is a power lunch, moved to the evening and dressed up in
black ties and cocktail dresses. So how, do you suppose, did the Board of Trade choose one from the
many deserving of honor for this singular recognition? Why Cliff above all others? I d like to think
that I can shed some light on that choice. There are dimensions to Cliff that set him clearly apart from

And just a couple weeks ago, the Washington Post listed CDSI as one of the 50 largest public
companies in the greater Washington area, describing it as the grand daddy of information technology
services in the area. The baby, it seems, has grown up. Cliff continues to chart CDSI s future today, in
his role as chairman of the board, and he continues to regard the people of CDSI as part of his
extended family. More important than what Cliff has done at CDSI, though, is how he s done it. Few
stereotypes are more pervasive today or certainly in Cliff s case more unfair than that of the corporate
business leader as crass, heartless, adept at taking but incapable of giving. Cliff, in the life he has led
and in the model he has established as head of a hugely successful company, gives lie to that
stereotype. His approach to corporate leadership is founded on his innate humanity, his basic decency,
his involvement with others on a human level. Cliff is living testimony to the thesis that one can do
good while doing well. As one of Cliff s close associates puts it, For a guy who s done as much as he
has in business, it s refreshing to find that he always has time for others. He s a very special
combination of businessman and people man. He gives of himself to everybody. Cliff has given of
himself not only to the enterprise and the people of CDSI, but in full measure as well to

Influential Kings in British History
There are many influential kings in British history, one being Henry VII. Founder of the Tudor
dynasty, he was a somewhat shadowy figure; cold, cautious, rigid man who paid constant attention to
the administration and the filling of the royal funds. Henry was an accomplished politician who
restored peace and stability to England. He was more of a dry, spiritless count that enjoyed the chase
and other athletic activities but also music, dancing, and cards. With the death of Prince Edward, and
the murder shortly afterwards of his father Henry VI, the fourteen year old Henry Tudor became the
leading Lancastrian claimant to the throne. This wouldn t have been so bad if Edward IV s brother, the
Duke of Gloucester, declared his sons illegitimate and took the throne for himself as Richard III. The
disappearance and presumed murder of the young princes turned many of Richard s subjects against
him and rallied around exiled Henry Tudor. Henry was now the leading claimant to the throne as
Richard was now an illegal leader. Henry reinforced his promised marriage to Elizabeth of York,
daughter of Edward IV. This brought Houses of Lancaster and York, which brought dissident Yorkists
to Henry s side. ( Crofton, 2006) After the death of the last two Yorkists claimants, Henry s position on
the throne was much more secured. He had isolated Warbeck from foreign allies by securing peace
with France, the emperor, and Scotland. He married his daughter Margaret to the Scotland king, James
VI.

Claude Debussy Research Paper
Claude Debussy, best known for breaking the rules of tonality, has written and composed many pieces
that still influence musicians today. His talents were noticed by everyone he came in contact even with
at a young age. Nevertheless, people were scared of his innovative music because it was unlike
anything they had heard before. He embraced nontraditional scales and tonal structures ( Bio.com ,
n.d.). For this reason, people disliked like his music until later in life. Debussy will always be
remembered as the founder of musical impressionism.
Born on August 22, 1862, in Saint Germain en Laye, Claude Debussy was the oldest of five children (

This mix of tone poem and symphony is roughly twenty three minutes long ( La mer | LA Phil , n.d.).
It was started in 1903 in France and was completed in 1905 on the English Channel coast in
Eastbourne. Claude Debussy was obsessed with the sea, he loved it so much that he was unable to
write the piece by the ocean ( Claude Debussy s Life and His Luxurious Music , n.d.). He wrote to a
friend that he, was destined for the fine career of a sailor, and that only the accidents of life put him on
another path, ( La mer | LA Phil , n.d.). All of La Mer was written far away from the ocean ( Claude
Debussy s Life and His Luxurious Music , n.d.). This piece depicted elements of the sea such as the
wind and waves ( Claude Debussy s Life and His Luxurious Music , n.d.). Debussy created La Mer as
a series of spontaneous fragments of music ( Debussy s La Mer An Atmospheric Nature Painting ,
n.d.). It was a very influential piece, and its use of sensuous tonal colours and orchestration methods
influenced many film pieces later on, (2012, 23:08).
Debussy wanted to avoid the term symphony so he called his work three symphonic sketches, ( La
mer | LA Phil , n.d.). It consisted of two powerful outer movements and a faster piece that acts as a
type of scherzo (2012, 23:08). A scherzo is a movement from a bigger piece like a symphony (2012,
23:08). This piece to me creates a calm feeling while listening and it

The Effects of Nature or Nurture on Early Human...
Human development is a very complex process from conception to death. There has been a long
debate on whether human development is determined by nature or nurture. If their growths were all
guided by nature only, they would all be born with a mind of blank slate . This means that they do not
have any inborn ability to do anything when they are born. On the other hand, if their growth was
determined by nurture only, it would mean that they were fully equipped with all the skills they need
in their lives when we are born. In other words, all the physical and mental skills they have right now
would have been inherited from their parents and the environment they grow up in has no effect. This
essay will focus on the effects of both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because they are born with the same set of muscles and bones that they learn how to use the
nature part of motor development. However, it is important to notice that the rate of learning these
motor skills differ due to the nurture side of development. For example, an infant that practices
walking with its parent may start walking on its own earlier than another infant that received no help.
Also, an infant that receives much visual and auditory stimulation, such as playing with toys, develops
its motor skills faster than an infant that received none.
While the baby continues to learn how to move around on its own, it also learns how to talk an
extremely important skill. Speech development is also determined by both nature and nurture. All
babies that are born with no birth defects are equipped with physiological requirements for speech:
lungs, voice box, and mouth. They also need a properly working brain and nerves to control these
body parts and to mentally form sentences. These form the nature part of the speech development
because they are the things that the babies are born with. However, they could be useless if the baby
does not learn how to use them properly, and this is where the nurture part of the speech development
comes in. A baby that is constantly spoken to by others learns how to talk faster. In an opposite case, a

What Are The Seven Elements Of Art
One piece of artwork that I did that has all the seven elements of art was my animal watercolor
painting. The seven elements of art are line, shape, color, value, form , texture, and space. Somethings
that these elements help with are make the artwork more realistic. It can also help how realistic the
details are and how it looks three dimensional. The first element I used was line. Line helps you make
a outline of what you are trying to make. Line is the edges of a figure and it can be made with a pen or
pencil. A line can help how realistic you artwork can look. If you make a line that is behind you figure
at a certain angle it can make the shape seem real. Line is very important to a drawing because it can
show a lot of detail. Another element that can help a piece of artwork is shape. Shape is a area

Texture can also help your artwork feel more realistic. I used texture in my watercolor by painting
little hairs on the wolf s body to show how it might feel. It might feel like a furry rug or soft hair.
Texture can help with your artwork because it can help the viewer imagine the object in their mind.
The final element is space. Space can help show where the object is and you can also tell the setting
from the space around it. Space can also help your artwork because it can give detail about the story
behind of the artwork. In my watercolor painting the the space I used was to show the the wolf was all
by itself. It also shows how the land is barren and their is nothing on it.
The Seven Elements of Art can help your pieces of artwork. Some examples of elements that can help
are texture. Texture can help by helping the viewer imagine how the object feels. Another element that
can help us form. Form can help your drawing feel more three dimensional. All the seven elements

The general definition of science is the systematic study of the physical and natural world through
observation and experiments. On the contrary, it is much more than that. Much like art, it holds a
sense of subjectivity. It is an abstract paradigm that requires the input of one s personal beliefs and
values to help it progress. It is much more than just facts and theories of how the world works, but
also a prime representation of the ethics and beliefs of the scientists that help mold it today. Science is
a database for factual knowledge on the natural world, furthermore, it also incorporates the
environment it has created. The environment consists of the particular people, behaviors, and struggles
of the scientific community. Even though science incorporates many thoughts and ideas, it does not
contain other ideas. Science does not hold a moral category. It does not define what is considered right
and what is considered wrong. It merely provides information on certain ideas for further
understanding. Any theories and applications of it can lead to other subjects. This idea also applies to
what the acquired scientific knowledge is used for. Even though the ideas of complexity and
subjectivity are present in both science and art, the concept of aesthetic should only be important for
art. Despite requiring organization and general cleanliness, science does not need to pass the eye test.
Science should be represented through proper data and its analysis and the non factual features need to
have a rational reasoning. To judge or base an idea on its appeal does not equal to

Relationship Marketing Is Different From Any Other Form Of...
Introduction
For my project I will explain what relationship marketing is. Relationship marketing is different from
any other form of marketing. The reason for this is that relationship marketing identifies the long term
value of customer relationships and relationship marketing extends communication beyond intrusive
advertising and sales promotional messages. Relationship marketing is an arrangement where both the
buyer and seller have an interest in providing a more satisfying exchange. Also I will explain what the
benefits are of relationship marketing to a business and to a customer. I also will explain the CRM
stages, segmentation, technology in relation to relationship marketing and I will do a case study. I am
looking at Boots for my case study. I will explain how Boots have managed to build valuable
relationships with its customers.
Relationship Marketing
Relationship marketing is the process of attracting, maintaining and enhancing relationships with key
individuals over time. Businesses use one on one communication to earn the loyalty of their target
audience.
One of the most expensive and difficult tasks facing any business is acquiring new customers.
Acquiring a new customer can cost five times as much as retaining an existing customer. Research has
shown that 2% increase in customer retention can decrease costs by as much as 10% for a business. To
retain current customers, businesses engage in relationship marketing strategies to continually attract

Pax Roman A Time Of Peace And Learning
Research paper: Pax Romana Rome s Golden Age, often called the Pax Romana , was a time of peace
and learning after the ongoing wars with neighboring barbarians, and civil wars. During this time of
peace, the Romans greatly expanded their commerce and also refine their art. With peace, the romans
spent less time focusing on war and more time focusing on the arts. History remembers the legendary
Roman legions as the one of the most deadly and successful fighting forces in the ancient world. Even
today, stories of their great success and invincibility in the face of their enemies are still known. At the
height of their empire, the Romans were able to conquer a vast empire that stretched over three
continents and maintain t power for centuries over the Mediterranean Sea. The key to Rome s military
success during the Pax Romana was the advanced military innovations that the Romans incorporated
into its great army that included military bureaucracy, advanced battle tactics and military technology.
The Pax Romana was a time of relative peace during the Roman Empire. Although there were small
conflicts during The Pax Romana it was generally known as a time of prosperity and expansion for
Rome, mainly under the leadership of Emperor Augustus and Tiberius who successfully expanded
borders and made peace with neighboring barbarians. Pax Romana is Latin for peaceful Rome. It
lasted from 27 BC to 180 AD, from the end of the Republican Civil wars to the death of Marcus
Aurelious.

Effects of exercise versus a sedentary lifestyle on lung function for those who are asymptomatic

Since discovering the harmful effects of cigarette smoking to ones health, the United States has
worked hard to reduce the prevalence of illness and death attributable to this behavior. Based on recent
Gallup polls, the percent of people claiming to have smoked a cigarette within the past week has been

According to the Center for Disease Control

80% of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) cases. Smoking can be attributed to this class
of diseases because it causes lung damage and inflammation that can lead to COPD. Airways become

The Miracle League of El Paso
Introduction There are thousands of children who play sports in the communities on facilities
supported by residents through their tax dollars. The Miracle League of El Paso provides disabled
children and young adults in our communities who cannot participate in a sport on a conventional
field with a place to play baseball. The Miracle League of El Paso removes the obstructions that stop
children with disabilities off the baseball field and allows them to experience playing the field. The
main obstruction for disabled children starts from the natural grass fields. The Miracle League of El

According to the 2000 Census Bureau s states there are 5.2 million children in our country that have
disabilities between the ages of five and 19, and with young adults the number increases substantially.
(Miracle League, 2013). Teams are divided by age and ability, which means that it is possible to have
children from a wide range of ages on the same team if they play at a similar mental and physical
level. There are three divisions of play, non competitive, intermediate, and competitive. The difference
is the teaching of regular baseball fundamentals in the competitive division. In non competitive every
child bats, runs, and last batter scores a home run. Intermediate division is in the middle of non
competitive and competitive division (Miracle League, 2013). The Strengths of the Miracle League of
El Paso is the ability to reach out to disabled children no matter their age is to become involved in a
recreational sport such as baseball that schools, and little league teams would not include a disabled
child. The main advantage of the Miracle League of El Paso is that this League is the only one of its
kind in El Paso. The weakness of the Miracle League of El Paso is that the location is the only
location for the park, and many children come from all parts of El Paso. A few children live in New
Mexico. Because of the economy s situation many parents or relatives

Charles Frazier s Use of Music in Cold Mountain Essay
Charles Frazier s Use of Music in Cold Mountain The American Civil War was a bitter, grief filled
conflict with oddly musical overtones. A Southern soldier, Alexander Hunter, recalled that There was
music in plenty, (Lawrence 169) just as Charles Frazier s character Stobrod in Cold Mountain remarks
that there was so much music back then (407). While both the Union and the Confederacy placed great
import on music, Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier focuses primarily on the Southern perspective of
the war, in all of its aspects. Spiritual music gave soldiers hope, gave them something cheerful to
listen to after their days of slogging through the grime of human remains, as Inman discovers during
his journey. Songs of homecoming and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was said that the book most commonly owned by a Civil War soldier was a Bible, followed closely
by a songbook, also known as a songster (Waller and Edgington 147). This was particularly true in the
case of the black regiments that fought under the Confederate flag; because of the deep musical
heritage carried by the African Americans from their homeland, it was only natural that they in turn
transformed well known spirituals and ballads into music suitable for wartime. Captain George
Sutherland noted that the black soldiers life was full of either music or religion, and although this
statement related directly to a Negro regiment it could have also been applied universally, to the
entirety of both armies (Wilson 148). Religion and music have long been associated, and this union
was not broken by the splitting of the United States. Rather, it was strengthened as the fighters
searched desperately for a sold ideal to hold on to amidst the carnage many found their salvation
through music. All faith based hymns were not necessarily peaceful and loving, however; ballads such
as God Save the South! by R.S.A. proclaimed the South s divine right to succession with lyrics such as

Over Switching
In Andy Molinsky s article Adapt a New Culture, but Don t Go Too Far , over switching is a common
behavior among individuals who make mistakes when they are pushing themselves too far to match a
particular culture. It is inevitable which can affect individual s life or career (Molinsky). International
students and workers are told that individualism is an important part of the culture in the United
States. While they are trying to adapt to that culture, mistakes might happen because of their
unappropriated language and behavior. The best way to minimize the effect of over switching is to

Siddhartha Gautama is a cunning, intelligent man with a thirst for knowledge. He is expected to live
up to his fathers name, and everything appears to show him exceeding it. The only problem is,
Siddhartha s teachers and even his own father have not achieved enlightenment, and he strives to seek
enlightenment out within himself. Throughout the entire book, we follow Siddhartha as he discovers
what the meaning of life is, and just what life should be about. One day Siddhartha is seeking out the
inner fire within himself, while in others he simply waits and drifts upon the river of life, patiently
awaiting his fate to uncover the rest of the path. In the end, Siddhartha must give up all possessions,
and accept life for what life is. Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and
the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss,
or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have life itself. (Walter

The Bureaucratic System Of Public Administration
Introduction How Kristin Died is a prime example of one of the many issues inherent within the
bureaucratic system and the misfortunes that can stem from it. This case forever changed the lives of
those involved and unfortunately resulted in the death of Kristin Lardner, a 21 year old college
student, at the hands of Michael Cartier, her estranged boyfriend. It is important to public
administration because public administration contains many issues of hierarchy and redundancy.
Public administration also has the power to mold the environments where it is present in many ways.
This case is strongly related to organizational theory, the relationship organizations have with the
environment and how individuals behave within. When presented, the information within the case
surrounding the details of Kristin s death proves that had the bureaucracies involved taken the
necessary preventative measures, this tragedy may not have occurred. The main individuals of this
case include: Kristin Lardner, Michael Cartier, Tom Case and Rose Ryan. Although others were

The Tragedy And Joy Of Writing
The Tragedy and Joy of Writing We must all go through the experience of writing. Writing
experiences are harmful and tragic, while others offer a sense of joy and pride. Some writing
experiences are viewed as a formulated acquired skill and others as a beautiful and eloquent form of
art. The process of our perception into what we write and convey is confounding because each person
perceives it differently that the next. Writing for me is often a tedious and strenuous task, but I have
found a way to verbally express my emotions, but I have discovered more about myself from what I
have written. I hope that the experiences that I share stimulates my peer s imaginations and senses, so
that they may glimpse into my perception to my personal writing excerpts, which have been both
tragic and joyful. One of my most fond experiences of writing was during the year of 2007. In a matter
of minutes I had composed a small poem. I pondered for days to submit it online for publication. I was
nervous and excited at the same time. You know that feeling. It s the one where you are afraid of the
rejection when the rush of adrenaline comes through that tends to make you so nauseous that your
heart races, you become intensely overcome with perspiration, and a small lump forms in the back of
your throat. Finally, I overcame the feeling of sickness, gave into my heart, and submitted what I
thought would become another disappointment. Less

The Discovery Of The World War II
As it is known, World War II went on between 1939 and 1945. Many would think that the export and
production of oil would decrease, but the exact opposite happened. During World War II Egypt was
close to almost doubling its output of oil despite the conflicts that were going on around the globe.
Along with the great production and output of oil from Egypt, after World War II the success of oil
discovery continued. The first post war exploration success came in 1946 when Anglo Egyptian
Oilfields Ltd. in partnership with Socony Vacuum oil Co., struck oil in a wildcat well at Sudr, on the

the Sinai Peninsula in hopes of being successful and striking oil. The going went well for three years
after World War II, once 1948 came around there was changes coming that would impact the oil
industry of Egypt. The Egyptian Government passed a new law in the year of 1948. As taken from the
article Middle East Reservoir Review the law stated, This prohibited exports of crude oil, allowing
only the products refined in Egyptian plants to be sold abroad (23). This impacted all companies who
were drilling in Egypt at the time especially those who were international companies, one of those
companies being Shell. Any oil that was produced by a non Egyptian seller was not allowed; therefore
only oil that was produced from Egyptian plants was viable for exportation. When this new law was
imposed, Shell was quickly to react as they asked the Egyptian government to allow the company to
expand the refinery they had in Suez from which they were producing at the moment, all so the
company could have more production power in order to meet the needs of the rate of

The Effects Of Heavy Metals On Tap Water
Review of Literature This review of literature presents three themes necessary to understand the
context of testing for heavy metals in tap water: the toxicology of heavy metals, their prevalence in tap

Health Impacts of Heavy Metals in Tap Water
Research on blood lead levels (BLL) and health bolster the well established relationship between
elevated blood lead levels and physiology. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),
BLL above 15µg/dL in young children can result in damage to brain, red blood cells and kidneys
(EPA, 2005). In pregnant women it can lead to significant harm to the fetus. A correlation between

Although the link between EBLL and health is well recognized, the link between ingestion of tap
water with elevated lead levels and EBLL is more contested. Supporting the correlation, an
epidemiological study investigating the Flint Michigan Water Crisis by Hanna Attisha et al. (2016) has
drawn a definitive link between elevated lead levels in drinking water and an increase in blood lead
levels, and an experimental study comparing the health of individuals drinking tap vs bottled water
indicated that iron, chromium and lead levels were significantly higher in tap water consumers ( Badr
et al., 2011). On the other hand, multiple studies on the BLL of residents with elevated lead in tap
water, such as those performed by the CDC in D.C. homes following statewide elevated lead water
levels, have not found a correlation between elevated lead in tap water and EBLL (Center for Disease
Control, 2004; Guidotti et al., 2007). However, these studies do not rule out lead in water as a public
health risk. In fact, the CDC advocates that all sources of lead should be weighted equally and
removed to decrease exposure (Renner, 2010). Thus, the research on the relationship between heavy
metals such as lead and copper and health

Rational Choice Theory Essay
There are three main points that are reinforced in rational choice theory (Cornish and Clarke, 1986).
First, it may work better or worse for different types of crime, yet it is thought that there are rational
choices in every type of crime even impulsive and pathologic crimes. Second, the theory should be
applied on a crime specific basis. Hence, burglaries can t be grouped together in among residential and
commercial categories. Rather, they must be broken into smaller facets such as public housing
burglaries or wealthy residential neighborhoods. Finally, a distinction is made between criminal
involvement and criminal events. Criminal involvement describes how individuals get involved in
crime and further continue or abstain from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The later occurs when a specific offender is deterred from crime through sanctions. Thus, the benefits
and drawbacks of crime have sway with both deterrence and rational choice theories, but rational
choice doesn t make headway for a population as a whole or limit the individual to those previously
punished.
The strengths of the rational choice theory are also seen when comparing it to the routine activity
theory, which proposes that three elements are needed for crime: motivated offenders, suitable targets,
and the absence of capable guardians (Cohen and Felson, 1979). Hence, environmental conditions
must be right for crime to occur. This relates to one similarity of the rational choice theory, which is
the account for situational variables such as the likelihood of punishment (Cornish and Clarke, 1986).
In contrast, routine activity theory doesn t look at why the individual commits crime (Cohen and
Felson, 1979). Instead, this propensity is assumed, while the rational choice theory looks specifically
at the reasons individuals commit offenses.
The broken windows theory reduces the cause of crime to the amount of disorder in a community
(Wilson and Kelling, 1982). Basically, if there are broken windows in buildings it can result in
allowing more vandalism, which leads more riff raff on the streets. This creates a fear for citizens to

One group of kids were exposed to adults aggressively hitting the doll with hammers, and those kids

Industrial Revolution And The Industrial Age
The Industrial Revolution affected all aspects of American life, and it provoked more changes than
just those in the factories. How one experienced the Industrial Revolution depended on where one
lived. By 1900, more than a third of America s people lived in cities, and city populations were
growing twice as fast as the population as a whole. Between 1870 and 1920, the number of Americans
living in cities increased fivefold, from 10 million to 54 million. Most of the massive industries of the
Industrial Age emerged in the North. Because the work was there, these cities ballooned into
metropolises. And as the cities of the North grew, economic disparities between the wealthy and the
poor became more pronounced; the corporations of the Industrial Age generated enormous fortunes
for a handful of people, leaving most industrial laborers living in poverty. Most of the people living in
these growing cities were workers working in the new factories of the Industrial Age. The
manufacturers sometimes provided company housing close to the factories so that the entire work
force could walk to work. The independent builders sought quick profits and got away with throwing
up inferior houses because they had no building codes. Those developers also carved up previously
built single family homes into multiple unit dwellings called tenements, which often had thin walls
and frequently lacked windows as well. These kinds of close quarters led to communal childcare
networks, and they also

Buser V. Corpus Christi Independent School Case Study
All parents and/or guardians are awarded due process in the United States court system. IDEA gives
parents the opportunity for a child with a disability the rights to examine their personal records,
participate in meetings such as, IEPs and ARDs with the respect to the identification, evaluation, and
education of the child s placement and also free public education (Osbourne Russo). Although most of
the due process rights in the IDEA are for the benefit of children, the Supreme Court ruled that parents
have rights of their own independent of those of their children (Osbourne Russo, p. 96). In this paper it
will analyze the court case of Buser v. Corpus Christi Independent School District, 1995; the parties
involved, issues brought to court, disagreements, how and when the case was adjudicated, final
outcomes, and disagree or agree with the case.

Trotsky s Assessment Of The Continuity Between Stalinism...
Trotsky s assessment of the continuity between Stalinism and Leninism Bolshevism is valid to a
certain extent. It is axiomatic that there is a multiplicity of factors that seem to correlate Stalinism to
Leninism, thus adding validity to Trotsky s assessment of the continuity. However the straight line
theory of the continuity between the two ideological phenomena, implied by Trotsky, undermines the
divergence between them. Both phenomenons rose up in the Soviet Russia during the times of civil
unrest, but Stalinism can be seen as more of a revolution from above whilst the Bolsheviks Leninism
can be seen as more of a revolution from below .
The historical development of Stalinism can be traced and analyzed through its several stages. ...

However, elements of discontinuity are also present as the revolution was perverted by the Stalinist
structure as the dictatorship of the proletariat soon became the dictatorship of Stalin. Furthermore
Stalin s theory of Socialism in One Country betrayed that of the Marxist Leninist theory of
propagating socialism to other countries.
In order to fully assess the validity of the statement, two fundamental factors must we must firstly
look at. Firstly the aspects of continuity that may have lead to the the statement.Secondly, factors
within the Stalinist regime that illustrate aspects of discontinuity from the Bolshevik regime. Lastly,
the reason for the characterization, on behalf of Trotsky to possibility to give validity to the Stalinist
regime, likening that to the popularized Leninist Bolshevik regime.
Why does Trotsky legitimize the Stalinist regime as being linked to the Bolsheviks? Trotsky s
assessment of the of the Stalinist phenomenon certainly seems unexpected considering that any link
between the two systems would certainly seem to undermine Trotsky s creditably as the appropriate
successor of Lenin.
Trotsky was a renowned revolutionary who played a pivotal role during the Bolshevik Revolutionary.
He was born on November 7th, 1879 in Yanovka, Ukraine, to Jewish parents. In many regards,

What Is Ikea
What are IKEA s competitive priorities? IKEA s competitive priorities basically fall into two major
categories: price and design. It wants to have the greatest number of people afford, at the lowest cost
possible, its good quality and functional products. They put logic in the design of their products which
helps IKEA to price lower than competition while maintaining certain quality standard.
1. Describe IKEA s process for developing a new product. IKEA s process for developing a new
product is not just about changing the physical attributes of an item, say its Trofé mugs. What is
crucial in the design is the cost to be incurred in producing one unit of mug. To determine this cost, a
team is organized consisting of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, IKEA also has good customer service in their stores by providing a place for the kids while
their parents do the shopping. The store layout is very personal, such that the customer can seat and
feel the comfort while choosing what suits the customer s priorities. The brochures given out to
customers guide them in making decisions. Their easy credit also adds value to customers by making
the products more affordable/reasonable. IKEA has put customer ownership on a higher level by
involving them not just in the buying process but also in the assembly of furniture in their homes.
3. What are the good practices described in the case? How can I apply or implement these good
practices in my company? There are a lot to learn from the case. First is in the continuous efforts put
forth by the company at all levels possible to lower their cost, which translates to lower cost for the
customers. The company has also successfully integrated ethical dimensions in manufacturing their
products. Lastly is their good customer service. My work as a marketing person from Wyeth primarily
deals with developing long term business relationship with customers and there is a cost associated to
that. I do this by implementing marketing programs. However, a careful scrutiny of the program must

Spotty Handed Villaesses By Margaret Atwood And Doris...
Speeches aim to manipulate the audience through powerful rhetoric at the expense of substance.
To what extent does this statement align with your view of the speeches set for study.
Rhetoric is the practice of communication that persuades, informs, inspires, or entertains target
audiences in order to change or reinforce behaviors, beliefs, values or actions. It is a linguistic
technique designed to have a persuasive or remarkable effect, but it is often said to be lacking in
meaningful content; but in comparison with powerful rhetoric, and my view of the speeches set for
study it is manifest that the use of rhetoric is used to enhance the substance of each speech.
Due to the engaging rhetoric used within the speeches Spotty handed villainesses by Margaret Atwood
and Doris Lessing s On not winning the Nobel prize it is evident that the use of rhetoric is used to
enrich the substance of each speech.
The two speeches both advocate for common inequalities that effect the whole world.
The founding origins are a result of the worlds growing disparity of people s rights across society.
Atwood s Spotty Handed Villainesses aims to fight the oppression of women in society and the need
for equal rights whereas Lessing s On not winning the Nobel prize highlights the gulf between first
and third world countries. She discusses inequality through the importance of education and access to
books. Both speeches stem from the importance of literacy and how the written world can

Cofferdam Advantages And Disadvantages
Cofferdam:
The word cofferdam comes from the word coffer meaning box. In other words, we could say a
cofferdam is a dam shaped like a box.
A cofferdam is a watertight structure designed to make construction projects in normally submerged
regions easier. Such projects include bridges, piers and the repair works in oil platforms. A dam is
placed in the area of the project and water is then removed from that area until the soil isn t submerged
by water. This allows the workers to place structural supports, repair or any other type of work in dry
surroundings.
A cofferdam is a temporary structure most likely consisting of steel structures welded together, with
other parts consisting of sheet pile and sand braces. The cofferdam is usually broken down after the

Dike Cofferdam
A dike is an embankment of a certain type of material. The materials most used in constructing a dike
are soil, rock and sand bags. Dikes are often used for a short period of time, this is to enable a
cofferdam to be constructed later on.
2. Single Wall Cofferdam
A single wall cofferdam is applied in case the working area and area supposed to be enclosed are
limited and small. This type of dam is only suitable for a maximum depth of 25m. On both sides of the
single walled cofferdam a single row of piles is used.
3. Double Wall Cofferdam
If the area that is supposed to be enclosed by the dam is large, it becomes necessary to use a double
wall cofferdam which is made of two lines of sheet piles tied to each other. There is a space between
the tied sheet piles that is filled in with sand providing stability for the cofferdam. Double wall
cofferdams are used when the area to be enclosed by the dam is very large and the water depth is

  • 2. Strategic Action Disney On Consumer Focused Initiative Essay Assessment 1 MKT 220 Buyer Behavior Submitted by: Eirenne Lucia V. Reyes 14095156B Stream B Submitted to: Anika Vats Date: May 13, 2015 Part A Question 1: Which strategic action Disney took in terms of consumer focused initiative? Give examples. (15 marks) In 1992, Euro Disney was launched in Paris. This project unexpectedly received undesirable feedback from its target market since the company wrongly assumed that it would be easily accepted by the Western European market. Disney received criticisms and negative publicity as they were thought to have brought American imperialism into Europe and the French government acquired farmland just to create the theme park which resulted to protests from the French farmers. Cultural issues also arose as most of its employees did not accept well the management style and the dress code, the customers were not satisfied with the language used in the theme park, with the ban of alcohol consumption, the pricing of tickets and merchandise, etc. The company learned that they had to be aware and have a full understanding of the culture of their host nation and apply it to the operations of the theme park; and this is the main strategic action that they had to pursue in order to capture the desires and interest of their customers. As a result, Euro Disney was changed to Paris Disneyland to strengthen the identity and nationalism of the theme park in relation with its host nation, France, and in turn the French were ... • 3. Nike s Company Strategy Is A Clever One Strengths Company owns no factories: Nike s company strategy is a clever one. While still in school at Stanford, the founder Phil Knight thought that instead of paying Americans to put together Nike s shoes, Knight believed that it would be best to take their manufacturing plants oversees, to places where the labor would be immensely cheaper than in the United States, for example South Korea and Taiwan. With 86 percent of Nike s products being manufactured in one of the aforementioned countries and Nike employing a large number of people who lived there, both countries shared in the riches until the founder decided prices were too high to manufacture there anymore. Global Market Leader: The footwear and sportswear industry causes constant demand for new footwear technology around the world and no company has maintained a share in every major market around the world, like Nike. Nike has the chance to go to countries like India, where the economies and social statuses of people are changing and growing to allow for companies like Nike to sell their products. Despite all of the opportunities Nike has in the industry, competition has been strengthening and the market of fake goods has been growing within the past ten years. Innovative Culture: The culture of inventing new things is a strong core competency for the Nike brand. The things left for the future by such invention of new things in search of better, lighter, faster product performance changes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Religion, Poverty, and Wealth Essay Religion, Poverty, and Wealth Christians believe strongly in world equality, as they feel that they have a responsibility to care for the poor and needy. These responsibilities are based upon the five key Christian ideas 1. Stewardship Genesis (1: 28 31) In this story God creates Adam and Eve. He builds a beautiful house and a beautiful garden with trees laden with ripe and delicious fruit for them to live in. Pick the fruit and eat it freely, God told them, but do not eat the fruit from the tree in the middle as it is evil, and if eaten you will die. One day a cunning snake persuaded Eve to eat a piece of fruit from the forbidden tree. After much persuasion Eve reluctantly took ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Lord Elijah was enraged and cursed the King s family for eternity. The moral of this story is to not use your power to demand personal and sentimental belongings from others. But Bob Geldof has twisted this parable by using his power to help poverty stricken people (Make Poverty History fund). 3. Human life is sacred Genesis (1: 26 27) All men and women are created equal. In Genesis we are told that every individual is special because we are all made in the image of God. Rich or poor we are all of equal importance and every life is sacred. This teaching is emphasising Christians to treat everyone equally disregarding their creed, colour, culture or finical purposes. 4. The Golden rule Luke (10: 25 37) The Good Samaritan There was once a Jew who was travelling along a long and dangerous road. All of a sudden a group of robbers beat him and stole his belongings, they left him stripped and half dead by the roadside. A

  • 6. Dr King Qualities Understanding what it takes to be a great leader Anyone has the potential to be a leader, but it takes a strong and willing person to be a great leader. First and foremost a leader must be willing to take responsibility, for he s own action and the action of others, and be willing to step up to the plate at all times. He must be willing to listen at time, for advice from those who he leads. Great leaders take a firm stand for their followers, they never gives up on achieving their goals, they are dedicated and they push for excellent. They stay focus, they embrace the needs and wants of other people, they commit to people who stand with them, and those who are committed to them. People that are leader are normally well organized, considerate of others and will set the pace by example. Some people believe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dr. King visioned a world of love and peace. Dr. King was one of the greatest leader ever know, he was determine to push for the right of the people. He called us to act then and continues to call us to action now. Dr. King reminds us that what we do today influences tomorrow. In fact, he wrote, we are faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history there is such a thing as being too late. Procrastination is still the thief of time (King, 1967, p. 191). (EDWARDS, 2010). • 7. Differences Between Arab Immigrants And White Race Arab immigrants living in the Western society often compare their identity to the White race. The two main factors that differentiate the Arab immigrants and the Western White race are the two factors of gender and religion. Gender relations is often associated with Arabs creating their identity compared to the whites, this is because gender is associated with gender roles and the hierarchy of power (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 372). Another type of comparison is the factor of religion; White Christians often follow the Bible, which talk about the ideal breadwinner man and caretaker women. But, studies have shown that between Christians and White women both were affected by religiosity and ethnicity that relate to traditional gender roles (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 374) In the western society, Arab women can choose to accept or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This word is often associated with recent Arab immigrants who have not fully adopted the mainstream culture (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 379). Moreover, the boater identity was seen as undesirable label, therefore, more immigrants worked hard to get rid of this label over time to be considered Arab American (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 380). Conflicts also arise between girls who wear hijabs and those who choose not too; girls who wear hijabs are seen as morally superior which symbolizes the pinnacle of respect and distances themselves from the idea of freedom (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 383). Another aspect compares the relation between Arab men and women; women are expected to adhere to the religious restrictions as it enhances their worth. An example of this would be Arab girls not getting into relationship or doing anything sexually with a guy; this is a double standard that the men do not have to follow through with and only perpetuates the idea of the social hierarchy with men on ... • 8. Police Brutality And The Law Enforcement Police Brutality The duties of law enforcement involve looking after the American people. As the Los Angeles Police Department puts it, it is the police s duty to Protect and Serve the community. As Americans, we should expect to be able to rely on local police to solve our problems and bring peace and stability to society. Yet, as current events have shown, these promises are not always fulfilled. Since the late 1960s, America has begun to grow from a racially segregated nation, into one of unity and equality. Today there is no doubt that immense progress has been made, however events involving our law enforcement and minorities has seemed to halt such progress. Recently, the public has begun to once again rise up against such heinous crimes that seem to hail from an era before civil rights. Police brutality notoriously rose during the 1990s. The most guilty of this was the Los Angeles Police Department. After the introduction of crack cocaine plagued the streets of American cities, Los Angeles took the initiative of upgrading its CRASH Unit (Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums). By April 1988, nearly 1,567 minorities were arrested on just one weekend, yet about 10% of these arrests actually led to felony convictions. By 1998, the CRASH unit was embroiled once again in a scandal known as the Rampart Scandal. More than seventy officers assigned to the Rampart Division were accused of strong police misconduct. These officers were accused of targeting minorities and planting evidence on these victims, framing them to higher their positions in the LAPD. (Source #3) In the middle of all this, one case would implant the image of police brutality to all Americans for years to come. On March 4, 1991, an African American man named Rodney King had been drinking earlier in the night and was on his way home, speeding on the highway which brought attention to an officer stationed there and proceed to pursue King. After attempting to outrun police, King was eventually cornered by police. What would be expected to be a quick arrest after being pulled over quickly turned brutal. As King exited ... • 9. Testimonial Speech Testimonial Speech I am delighted to be a part of this gala evening, and especially pleased to have the opportunity to share some of my thoughts and observations about this evening s honoree and my good friend, Cliff Kendall. Leader of the year certainly the term fits Cliff like a glove. But look around the room. This place is filled with leaders. This is a power lunch, moved to the evening and dressed up in black ties and cocktail dresses. And just a couple weeks ago, the Washington Post listed CDSI as one of the 50 largest public companies in the greater Washington area, describing it as the grand daddy of information technology services in the area. The baby, it seems, has grown up. Cliff continues to chart CDSI s future today, in his role as chairman of the board, and he continues to regard the people of CDSI as part of his extended family. More important than what Cliff has done at CDSI, though, is how he s done it. Few stereotypes are more pervasive today or certainly in Cliff s case more unfair than that of the corporate business leader as crass, heartless, adept at taking but incapable of giving. Cliff, in the life he has led and in the model he has established as head of a hugely successful company, gives lie to that stereotype. His approach to corporate leadership is founded on his innate humanity, his basic decency, his involvement with others on a human level. Cliff is living testimony to the thesis that one can do good while doing well. As one of Cliff s close associates puts it, For a guy who s done as much as he has in business, it s refreshing to find that he always has time for others. He s a very special combination of businessman and people man. He gives of himself to everybody. • 10. Influential Kings in British History There are many influential kings in British history, one being Henry VII. Founder of the Tudor dynasty, he was a somewhat shadowy figure; cold, cautious, rigid man who paid constant attention to the administration and the filling of the royal funds. Henry was an accomplished politician who restored peace and stability to England. He was more of a dry, spiritless count that enjoyed the chase and other athletic activities but also music, dancing, and cards. With the death of Prince Edward, and the murder shortly afterwards of his father Henry VI, the fourteen year old Henry Tudor became the leading Lancastrian claimant to the throne. This wouldn t have been so bad if Edward IV s brother, the Duke of Gloucester, declared his sons illegitimate and took the throne for himself as Richard III. The disappearance and presumed murder of the young princes turned many of Richard s subjects against him and rallied around exiled Henry Tudor. Henry was now the leading claimant to the throne as Richard was now an illegal leader. Henry reinforced his promised marriage to Elizabeth of York, daughter of Edward IV. This brought Houses of Lancaster and York, which brought dissident Yorkists to Henry s side. ( Crofton, 2006) After the death of the last two Yorkists claimants, Henry s position on the throne was much more secured. He had isolated Warbeck from foreign allies by securing peace with France, the emperor, and Scotland. He married his daughter Margaret to the Scotland king, James VI. ... • 11. Claude Debussy Research Paper Claude Debussy, best known for breaking the rules of tonality, has written and composed many pieces that still influence musicians today. His talents were noticed by everyone he came in contact even with at a young age. Nevertheless, people were scared of his innovative music because it was unlike anything they had heard before. He embraced nontraditional scales and tonal structures ( Bio.com , n.d.). For this reason, people disliked like his music until later in life. Debussy will always be remembered as the founder of musical impressionism. Born on August 22, 1862, in Saint Germain en Laye, Claude Debussy was the oldest of five children ( Bio.com , n.d.). He wrote to a friend that he, was destined for the fine career of a sailor, and that only the accidents of life put him on another path, ( La mer | LA Phil , n.d.). All of La Mer was written far away from the ocean ( Claude Debussy s Life and His Luxurious Music , n.d.). This piece depicted elements of the sea such as the wind and waves ( Claude Debussy s Life and His Luxurious Music , n.d.). Debussy created La Mer as a series of spontaneous fragments of music ( Debussy s La Mer An Atmospheric Nature Painting , n.d.). It was a very influential piece, and its use of sensuous tonal colours and orchestration methods influenced many film pieces later on, (2012, 23:08). Debussy wanted to avoid the term symphony so he called his work three symphonic sketches, ( La mer | LA Phil , n.d.). It consisted of two powerful outer movements and a faster piece that acts as a type of scherzo (2012, 23:08). A scherzo is a movement from a bigger piece like a symphony (2012, 23:08). • 12. The Effects of Nature or Nurture on Early Human... Human development is a very complex process from conception to death. There has been a long debate on whether human development is determined by nature or nurture. If their growths were all guided by nature only, they would all be born with a mind of blank slate . This means that they do not have any inborn ability to do anything when they are born. On the other hand, if their growth was determined by nurture only, it would mean that they were fully equipped with all the skills they need in their lives when we are born. In other words, all the physical and mental skills they have right now would have been inherited from their parents and the environment they grow up in has no effect. This is because they are born with the same set of muscles and bones that they learn how to use the nature part of motor development. However, it is important to notice that the rate of learning these motor skills differ due to the nurture side of development. For example, an infant that practices walking with its parent may start walking on its own earlier than another infant that received no help. Also, an infant that receives much visual and auditory stimulation, such as playing with toys, develops its motor skills faster than an infant that received none. While the baby continues to learn how to move around on its own, it also learns how to talk an extremely important skill. Speech development is also determined by both nature and nurture. All babies that are born with no birth defects are equipped with physiological requirements for speech: lungs, voice box, and mouth. They also need a properly working brain and nerves to control these body parts and to mentally form sentences. These form the nature part of the speech development because they are the things that the babies are born with. However, they could be useless if the baby does not learn how to use them properly, and this is where the nurture part of the speech development comes in. The seven elements of art are line, shape, color, value, form , texture, and space. Somethings that these elements help with are make the artwork more realistic. It can also help how realistic the details are and how it looks three dimensional. The first element I used was line. Line helps you make a outline of what you are trying to make. Line is the edges of a figure and it can be made with a pen or pencil. A line can help how realistic you artwork can look. If you make a line that is behind you figure at a certain angle it can make the shape seem real. Line is very important to a drawing because it can show a lot of detail. Space can help show where the object is and you can also tell the setting from the space around it. Space can also help your artwork because it can give detail about the story behind of the artwork. The general definition of science is the systematic study of the physical and natural world through observation and experiments. On the contrary, it is much more than that. Much like art, it holds a sense of subjectivity. It is an abstract paradigm that requires the input of one s personal beliefs and values to help it progress. It is much more than just facts and theories of how the world works, but also a prime representation of the ethics and beliefs of the scientists that help mold it today. Science is a database for factual knowledge on the natural world, furthermore, it also incorporates the environment it has created. The environment consists of the particular people, behaviors, and struggles of the scientific community. Even though science incorporates many thoughts and ideas, it does not contain other ideas. Science does not hold a moral category. It does not define what is considered right and what is considered wrong. It merely provides information on certain ideas for further understanding. Any theories and applications of it can lead to other subjects. This idea also applies to what the acquired scientific knowledge is used for. Even though the ideas of complexity and subjectivity are present in both science and art, the concept of aesthetic should only be important for art. Science should be represented through proper data and its analysis and the non factual features need to have a rational reasoning. To judge or base an idea on its appeal does not equal to ... • 15. Relationship Marketing Is Different From Any Other Form Of... Introduction For my project I will explain what relationship marketing is. Relationship marketing is different from any other form of marketing. The reason for this is that relationship marketing identifies the long term value of customer relationships and relationship marketing extends communication beyond intrusive advertising and sales promotional messages. Relationship marketing is an arrangement where both the buyer and seller have an interest in providing a more satisfying exchange. Also I will explain what the benefits are of relationship marketing to a business and to a customer. I also will explain the CRM stages, segmentation, technology in relation to relationship marketing and I will do a case study. I am looking at Boots for my case study. I will explain how Boots have managed to build valuable relationships with its customers. Relationship Marketing Relationship marketing is the process of attracting, maintaining and enhancing relationships with key individuals over time. Businesses use one on one communication to earn the loyalty of their target audience. One of the most expensive and difficult tasks facing any business is acquiring new customers. Pax Roman A Time Of Peace And Learning Research paper: Pax Romana Rome s Golden Age, often called the Pax Romana , was a time of peace and learning after the ongoing wars with neighboring barbarians, and civil wars. During this time of peace, the Romans greatly expanded their commerce and also refine their art. With peace, the romans spent less time focusing on war and more time focusing on the arts. History remembers the legendary Roman legions as the one of the most deadly and successful fighting forces in the ancient world. Even today, stories of their great success and invincibility in the face of their enemies are still known. At the height of their empire, the Romans were able to conquer a vast empire that stretched over three continents and maintain t power for centuries over the Mediterranean Sea. The key to Rome s military success during the Pax Romana was the advanced military innovations that the Romans incorporated into its great army that included military bureaucracy, advanced battle tactics and military technology. The Pax Romana was a time of relative peace during the Roman Empire. Although there were small conflicts during The Pax Romana it was generally known as a time of prosperity and expansion for Rome, mainly under the leadership of Emperor Augustus and Tiberius who successfully expanded borders and made peace with neighboring barbarians. • 37. Rational Choice Theory Essay There are three main points that are reinforced in rational choice theory (Cornish and Clarke, 1986). First, it may work better or worse for different types of crime, yet it is thought that there are rational choices in every type of crime even impulsive and pathologic crimes. Second, the theory should be applied on a crime specific basis. Hence, burglaries can t be grouped together in among residential and commercial categories. Rather, they must be broken into smaller facets such as public housing burglaries or wealthy residential neighborhoods. Finally, a distinction is made between criminal involvement and criminal events. Criminal involvement describes how individuals get involved in crime and further continue or abstain from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The later occurs when a specific offender is deterred from crime through sanctions. Thus, the benefits and drawbacks of crime have sway with both deterrence and rational choice theories, but rational choice doesn t make headway for a population as a whole or limit the individual to those previously punished. The strengths of the rational choice theory are also seen when comparing it to the routine activity theory, which proposes that three elements are needed for crime: motivated offenders, suitable targets, and the absence of capable guardians (Cohen and Felson, 1979). Hence, environmental conditions must be right for crime to occur. This relates to one similarity of the rational choice theory, which is the account for situational variables such as the likelihood of punishment (Cornish and Clarke, 1986). In contrast, routine activity theory doesn t look at why the individual commits crime (Cohen and Felson, 1979). Instead, this propensity is assumed, while the rational choice theory looks specifically at the reasons individuals commit offenses. The broken windows theory reduces the cause of crime to the amount of disorder in a community (Wilson and Kelling, 1982). Basically, if there are broken windows in buildings it can result in allowing more vandalism, which leads more riff raff on the streets. This creates a fear for citizens to go out in the neighborhood, which limits the visibility of proactive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Albert Bandura Summary Albert Bandura directed a study to examine if social behaviors can be assimilated by surveillance and imitation. Albert and his associates tested 36 girls and 36 boys, between ages of 3 to 6, from the Stanford University Nursery School. The researchers ran a pretrial of how aggressive the kids were at the beginning. The children were later categorized in groups of how aggressive they were. The experiment contained a bobo doll and tools to abuse the doll while some consisted of toys in a room. One group of kids were exposed to adults aggressively hitting the doll with hammers, and those kids reacted the same way when placed in that room. He goes into great detail about the urn, but leaves the final judgment of who was actually cremated in the urn to the listener. The speaker starts the poem off by acting as if the urn is a bride on her wedding day at the alter and the silence you hear as the groom approaches her. • 41. Industrial Revolution And The Industrial Age The Industrial Revolution affected all aspects of American life, and it provoked more changes than just those in the factories. How one experienced the Industrial Revolution depended on where one lived. By 1900, more than a third of America s people lived in cities, and city populations were growing twice as fast as the population as a whole. Between 1870 and 1920, the number of Americans living in cities increased fivefold, from 10 million to 54 million. Most of the massive industries of the Industrial Age emerged in the North. Because the work was there, these cities ballooned into metropolises. And as the cities of the North grew, economic disparities between the wealthy and the poor became more pronounced; the corporations of the Industrial Age generated enormous fortunes for a handful of people, leaving most industrial laborers living in poverty. Most of the people living in these growing cities were workers working in the new factories of the Industrial Age. The manufacturers sometimes provided company housing close to the factories so that the entire work force could walk to work. The independent builders sought quick profits and got away with throwing up inferior houses because they had no building codes. Those developers also carved up previously built single family homes into multiple unit dwellings called tenements, which often had thin walls and frequently lacked windows as well. These kinds of close quarters led to communal childcare networks, and they also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Buser V. Corpus Christi Independent School Case Study All parents and/or guardians are awarded due process in the United States court system. IDEA gives parents the opportunity for a child with a disability the rights to examine their personal records, participate in meetings such as, IEPs and ARDs with the respect to the identification, evaluation, and education of the child s placement and also free public education (Osbourne Russo). Although most of the due process rights in the IDEA are for the benefit of children, the Supreme Court ruled that parents have rights of their own independent of those of their children (Osbourne Russo, p. 96). In this paper it will analyze the court case of Buser v. • 43. Trotsky s Assessment Of The Continuity Between Stalinism... Trotsky s assessment of the continuity between Stalinism and Leninism Bolshevism is valid to a certain extent. It is axiomatic that there is a multiplicity of factors that seem to correlate Stalinism to Leninism, thus adding validity to Trotsky s assessment of the continuity. However the straight line theory of the continuity between the two ideological phenomena, implied by Trotsky, undermines the divergence between them. Both phenomenons rose up in the Soviet Russia during the times of civil unrest, but Stalinism can be seen as more of a revolution from above whilst the Bolsheviks Leninism can be seen as more of a revolution from below . The historical development of Stalinism can be traced and analyzed through its several stages. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, elements of discontinuity are also present as the revolution was perverted by the Stalinist structure as the dictatorship of the proletariat soon became the dictatorship of Stalin. Furthermore Stalin s theory of Socialism in One Country betrayed that of the Marxist Leninist theory of propagating socialism to other countries. In order to fully assess the validity of the statement, two fundamental factors must we must firstly look at. Firstly the aspects of continuity that may have lead to the the statement.Secondly, factors within the Stalinist regime that illustrate aspects of discontinuity from the Bolshevik regime. Lastly, the reason for the characterization, on behalf of Trotsky to possibility to give validity to the Stalinist regime, likening that to the popularized Leninist Bolshevik regime. Why does Trotsky legitimize the Stalinist regime as being linked to the Bolsheviks? Trotsky s assessment of the of the Stalinist phenomenon certainly seems unexpected considering that any link between the two systems would certainly seem to undermine Trotsky s creditably as the appropriate successor of Lenin. • 45. Spotty Handed Villaesses By Margaret Atwood And Doris... Speeches aim to manipulate the audience through powerful rhetoric at the expense of substance. To what extent does this statement align with your view of the speeches set for study. Rhetoric is the practice of communication that persuades, informs, inspires, or entertains target audiences in order to change or reinforce behaviors, beliefs, values or actions. It is a linguistic technique designed to have a persuasive or remarkable effect, but it is often said to be lacking in meaningful content; but in comparison with powerful rhetoric, and my view of the speeches set for study it is manifest that the use of rhetoric is used to enhance the substance of each speech. Due to the engaging rhetoric used within the speeches Spotty handed villainesses by Margaret Atwood and Doris Lessing s On not winning the Nobel prize it is evident that the use of rhetoric is used to enrich the substance of each speech. The two speeches both advocate for common inequalities that effect the whole world. The founding origins are a result of the worlds growing disparity of people s rights across society. Atwood s Spotty Handed Villainesses aims to fight the oppression of women in society and the need for equal rights whereas Lessing s On not winning the Nobel prize highlights the gulf between first and third world countries.
