Criminal Is Not Insane
The Criminal
In this case the killer or suspect states how he took the life of the old man. The suspect explains
how he stalked the old man, each night for a whole week. He also explains how he treated him,
and how he took care of him. Furthermore, he took the police straight to the victim s body. I am the
prosecuting attorney for the state in a case against a man accused of murder. The man is obviously
guilty, but the defense lawyers are going to try to prove, that their client is insane. We are going to
prove that he is not insane, so the suspect will face full consequences of his crime. In the first place,
I want to prove his guilty, and that he is not insane. Because he could distinguish reality from
fantasy. I know this because

Daniel H. Pink s Theory
Regardless of where I go, that one urge to develop myself will always be there. Motivation for
me has been somewhat of a simple term until I discovered the different types. I feel as though I
have a fair amount of control regarding my future career because I can t take some classes just
yet without getting into other classes. I have not very much control over if the class gets full or is
not a good time to take or even require some prerequisites. The two motivations that have been
discussed in the book Drive by Daniel H. Pink, come from inside and outside. As I already know
that some of our motivationis going based off of our instincts as humans and other parts of
motivation come from a reward or a punishment, but there has been a third type discovered that
has explained the reason for wanting to grow as a person and it is known as motivation 3.0. I
agree that motivation 1.0 and 2.0 are useful to an extent because of my experience with both types
working then at some point being limited or losing motivation confirms it. Pink states that
motivation 2.0 works but not that well and it is not something to rely on (P.19). I wantto be a

Pink s theory of motivation 3.0 is extremely useful because it sheds light on the type of
motivation that seems to actually work so far. Motivation can come from various sources such as
internally as something we know or are born to do or externally whether it is something we learn
or develop. I plan to implement motivation 3.0 into my career field because it requires what
motivation 3.0 has, I will need to practice, work on getting better and work on things after work is
over. The goal that I have set for myself from what I ve noticed will get me to the spot that I want
to be in one way or another. There are different types of motivation but they can be compared to one

Compare The Visions Of Cecil John Rhodes And Olive Schreiner
Compare and Contrast the differing visions articulated around 1895 for South Africa s future by
Cecil John Rhodes and Olive Schreiner.
The vision for South Africa during the 1890 s saw for various issues that needed to be dealt with.
The visions of Cecil John Rhodes and Olive Schreiner represent conflicting views about the nature
of the relationship between power and racial notions. Rhodes a British born capitalist, with a
vision to defend and extend the British Empire and Olive Schreiner, a novelist, who envisioned a
party that has a great form of leadership without any racial prejudice and has no attributes of self
seeking enrichments through the use of power . Cecil John Rhodes and Olive Schreiner are both
significant in terms of the history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is clear in that his original vision for South Africa, was one that implied and sought for
nothing less than the defence and extension of the British Empire . This vision he had, had
included various genius in thought for the growth of South Africa as well as through the extension
of the British Empire, however through notions of policy, it had become clear that there were
introductions and representations of various factors pertaining towards racial discrimination,
corruption as well as others. These representations through policies such as The Glen Grey Act of
1894 which denied a vote to Africans from that district and, additionally, restricted the size of
African owned freeholds, restricted inheritance rights, and imposed a head tax all measures
devised to ensure labour migration , are a depiction of how Rhodes had been accustomed to ruling
through the means of oppressing the natives. This vision for South Africa, by Rhodes, can
therefore be said to have been one that focused on achieving the expansion of the British Empire,
the control of white supremacy as well as keeping control of South Africa s wealth and minerals

New Ways Of Survive As An Independent Recording Artist
Beyond 2014: New Ways to Survive as an Independent Recording Artist
INTRODUCTION
Forget everything you think you know about what it takes to be a successful independent recording
artist!
On some level, as a struggling independent recording artist or musician, you might think that any
one of the following habits will bring you success:
Having a mesmerizing image that matches your music
Breaking a sweat
Going broke to succeed
Hanging on until a record company scopes you out...
...How far has all this gotten you up until now?
With the tech revolution going on, the music industry is reinventing itself in terms of how to
become successful. At the same time there are thousands of struggling independent recording artists
all working ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Artists can now bypass record labels. With all the free or almost free ways to download music, the
labels themselves are struggling to survive; whereas before, they were the supreme brokers between
artists and their consumers.
When tech savvy artists look at the music industry today, they see opportunity.
As an independent recording artist, you have a lot going for you. All that is left to do is to step
up and act like an Artist To be creative, improvisational, and take risks. Musicians have a lot of
what it takes to be adaptive, agile, and innovative.
Thanks to Technology, The undiscovered artist can now better than ever be the master of his/her
own destiny instead of hanging on to be discovered by the masses or record labels.
LEVERAGING THE INTERNET TO GAIN EXPOSURE
The Internet has become an immensely influential stage that artists didn t have ten years ago.
Nothing has changed in terms of creating provocative and inspiring music that can move people.
The physical avenue has just largely surrendered to digital distribution the crowds at live shows
have drastically shrunk, studio technology has become a great deal better and more affordable, and
promotional tools have become near infinite in number especially online.

The Epidemiology Of Chronic Kidney Disease
In the past decade, the epidemiology of acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease has pointed
to the fact that these are not distinct disease entities, but are in fact interconnected. Acute kidney
injury may lead to chronic kidney disease, both share common risk factors: (1) race/ethnicity; (2)
genetic factors; (3) hypertension; (4) diabetes mellitus; and (5) metabolic syndrome (Chawla,
Eggers, Star Kimmel, 2014)
Mr. Fisher has chronic hypertension, diabetes, and may have metabolic syndrome, as evidenced
by obesity and hypertension. Metabolic syndrome is characterized by an increased waist size,
triglycerides that are 150mg/dl, HDL 130/85, fasting glucose 100mg/dl. (McCance Huether, 2014).

What Is Apathy And Empathy
Sympathy vs. Empathy Empathy is a Key word in person centered counseling. However, many
people, even very experienced mental health professionals can t explain the difference between
the two. They believe they are being empathetic, when in reality, they are being sympathetic. So,
what is the difference? Let s review all four possible feelings Apathy total lack of caring. Sort of
like when an ant is crawling toward your lunch plate and you smash it dead. This is apathy. You
had no regard for the life of the ant. Pity to feel sorry for someone without being inclined to help
in any way. Like when you see the mal nourished child from a 3rd world country and think, I am

No worries, all the dinosaurs were dead and gone. I learned how to counsel people. My
professor, Dr. Justin Levitev from Loyola University in New Orleans, was teaching counseling
techniques. So, as is typical of such a class, we students were role playing counseling sessions.
Whenever the counselor asked the client a why question, as well as other mistakes, Dr. Justin
would ring a bell. I quickly learned not to ask why questions. At that point, I also learned to not
to ask why questions in my day to day life. Whenever I hear someone asking a why question, it is
like someone racking their finger nails down a blackboard (you know those old things teachers
wrote on with dusty chalk until the late 1980 s) it sends chills down my spine. Back to Why not
ask why. Whenever we ask someone a why question, we are asking him or her to justify, defend
or explain him or herself. I hate it when people ask me, Why do you live in Malaysia. I feel like
answering, Why do you care? But sometimes you really want or need to know why about
something. OK, fine, just change your language. Instead of asking Why do you live in Malaysia?

Negligence Was Introduced By The Australian Courts As A...
AContributory negligence was introduced by the Australian courts as a complete defence should
the plaintiff claim the defendant had been negligent in their actions. The Law Reform Act 199510
was introduced however to allow for apportionment of damages in cases regarding contributory
negligence. In section 10 of the Law Reform Act 1995 this principle is described as if a plaintiff s
damage is the result partly of the plaintiff s fault and partly of the fault of the defendant, the
plaintiff can still recover damages from the defendant but the amount of damages is reduced to the
extent that the court thinks just and equitable having regard to the plaintiff s share in the
responsibility for the damage. 10
As a defence, contributory negligence has been used successfully to reduce the damages for the
defendant to pay. In Wei Fan v South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (No.2)11, this principle
was introduced by the defence to illustrate that they were not liable for the exacerbation of the
plaintiff s condition. The plaintiff attempted to claim for damages for the following conditions;
diabetes type 2, progression of cholecystitis, fractured skull and traumatic brain injury. By applying
contributory negligence to the case, the liability of the conditions was entirely placed on the
plaintiff due to discharging himself from three hospitals within the district against medical advice.
Discharging himself prematurely was proven to have lead to the exacerbation of the

Social Class In Great Expectations By Charles Dickens
Through the Social Class
Society has developed the concept of social class, to categorized people into different groups
based on economic, political, and socio economic status. This concept has made it difficult for the
middle and lower class to succeed. Charles Dickens had a sense of writing during the Victorian Era
as it sought to represent a large and comprehensive social world, with a variety of classes. Novels
during this time were made to be realistic and Charles Dickens excelled at doing that and exceeded
expectations. One of his most famous novels, Great Expectations was set in early Victorian Era
when great social changes were sweeping the nation. Charles Dickens s Great Expectations tells
the story of Pip, an English orphan who rises to wealth, deserts his true friends, and becomes
humbled by his own arrogance. This piece, and a couple other of his pieces including one of his
short novels, George Silverman s Explanation and a poem classifying the rich, The Fine Old
English Gentleman developed a concept of social class. Throughout each of the three pieces, the
social class is somehow brought up, whether that being a short snippet, or the way it can change
someone throughout the classifications of the social class.
Charles Dickens s Great Expectations was during a time where great social changes were sweeping
the nation. Although social class was no longer entirely dependent on the circumstances of one s
birth, the divisions between rich and poor remained nearly

Disadvantages Of Electric Cars
Everyday people use cars to get from one place to another, whether that s from their home to
work or from work to the airport or even city thousands of miles away. Cars especially in the
United States are hailed as efficient forms of transportation because of their ease of use and
relative affordability. However, in recent years with the rise in crude oil prices and the demand
for more efficient vehicles alternative fuel sources have gained more traction than in the past.
However, the many caveats of complex technology and increased price are major drawbacks
which must be considered when looking at electric cars. In the end electric cars are better for the
environment due to increased performance and reduced overall CO2 emissions. At the turn of the
nineteenth century electric cars made up nearly a third of the cars in the United States, while
today they don t even make up one percent as stated by Cadie Thompson. Electric cars were
hailed for their ease of operation, lack of smell, as well as their easiness to operate. Although there
were many upsides electric carproduction peaked in 1912. By this time Henry Ford s mass
production and assembly lines made internal combustion vehicles, both cheaper and more
popular making electric cars somewhat obsolete. One of the main limitations of electric cars is
the battery technology, which is used to power the electric cars. In the 1990s GM attempted to
create an electric car called the EV 1, it used primitive cheap lead acid batteries. A limitation of
this vehicle was the range it was between 55 and 95 miles which is nothing compared to an
average of around 300 for a combustion powered vehicle. With the rise of rechargeable batteries
in devices like laptops, phones, and even power tools battery technology has made leaps and
bounds. The batteries used in these devices are light, but powerful and are perfect for electric
cars. These lithium ion batteries aren t perfect however, they are extremely expensive, which
limits the market for electric vehicles. As Kevin Bullis said To cut costs, the lithium ion powered
electric cars made today by companies such as Nissan and GM use small battery packs with a
range if less than 100 miles. (Bullis). One thing that s extremely

Italy Adopted A Realist Strategy
It is based on a view of the individual as primarily fearful, selfish and power seeking. Individuals
organize in states, each of which acts in pursuit of its own national interest (Mingst and Arreguin
Toft, 2014: 79)
In light of this definition, it is possible to state that Italy adopted a realist strategy in non acting
against Libya. In the lack of reaction and in not taking a strong line of action towards the African
country, the aim of the Italian policy makers was to preserve the country s own interests. Policy
makers emphasized the abstention from opening fire on Libyan forces as part of Rome s strategy of
smoothing its role in the Libyan intervention.
Although Italy was involved in the U.S. European intervention in Libya, they did not actually
attack the troops of their close ally, Moammar Gaddafi. Rome s continuous insistence on
highlighting that it was both part of the intervention but had abstained from playing an aggressive
role against Gaddafi was a strategy to allow Italy to continue to balance the rebels in the east with
the relationship with Gaddafi in the west of Libya.
Italy had too many interests in Libya to pick one side and react consequently.
As previously stated, Italy s business, energy and national security interests would be directly
impacted by the happenings in Libya.
Italy had investments worth an estimated 11 billion American Dollars in Libya (Lombard, 2012: 37
39).
While it had assets in eastern Libya, the majority of them were in the west

attempting an exporting deal with either of the two countries. Research is not done on the other

business relations are the amount of public holidays they have, again Macgregor Meats
punctuality with addressing others and meetings. Overall Macgregor Meats has again a
punctuality issue as Chinese businesses take punctuality very seriously, if a company

Manners and Etiquette of Pride and Prejudice
Rebekah Johnson
Mrs. Tencza
Late European History

Do s and Don ts of Pride and Prejudice
In 19th century England, manners played a big role. In her book Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
portrays many different aspects of English social manners in the 1800s, and these facets of English
etiquette, including traveling etiquette, social propriety, and dancing, greatly affect the plot of the
book.
One aspect of English social etiquette was the set of strict rules for how one was to act to appear
as a socially adept person and therefore a desirable match for marriage. They were for the most
part unspoken rules, but during the 19th century there began to be a growing selection of etiquette
books available, for instance, Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He dances every dance, is very courteous, and pays special attention to Jane (Austen 278 279).
Because of these two characters different behavior at this first ball, they establish their reputations;
Darcy gets a bad reputation as a proud and disagreeable man, and Mr. Bingley gets a reputation as
an amiable man who is fun to be around.
Mr. Bingley through dancing also got an opportunity to show Jane that he cared about her; in the
1800s, if a gentleman asked to dance with a lady twice it usually meant that said gentleman was
interested in the lady. At the first ball, Mr. Bingley danced with [Jane] twice... (Austen 279) and
thereby showed his affection for her, an affection that grows stronger throughout Pride and Prejudice
.
Dancing also affects the plot of Pride and Prejudice. During the ball at Netherfield, Darcy dances
with Elizabeth, and two important things happen during this dance. First, Darcy s affection for
Elizabeth begins to flourish. As he is dancing with her, they have a little argument. After the
dance, Darcy begins to be angry at Elizabeth, but ...in Darcy s breast there was a tolerable
powerful feeling towards [Elizabeth], which soon procured her pardon, and directed all his anger
against another. Also, during this dance Elizabeth s view of what happened between Mr. Darcy and
Mr. Wickham, that Mr. Darcy has shamelessly exploited Mr. Wickham, is established in her own
mind. Without dancing, the plot of Pride and

Murata
The offspring produced via parthenogenesis have often been considered an evolutionary dead end
due to their low potential to respond to changing environments, (MURATA, 2009). Since these
organisms are not able to change their environments they often have a higher rate of extinction.
However, recent studies have shown that some organisms, such as aphids, are genetically more
variable than hypothesized and have a substantial potential for rapid adaptive changes, which means
that they are able to survive in the constantly changing environments (Murata, 2009). A study
conducted by Yusuke Murata (2009) was performed looking at just this. In this study, Murata

Wolfheart serves as an essential superhero in Elsa s personal growth and safety. Before knowing

and selfless fighter. She remembers the tale of Wolfheart returning from the forest when Miamas
needed him the most. And that was the moment of Wolfheart return from the forests. Maybe
because Miamas was teetering on the edge of extinction and needed him more than ever
(Backman 94). This directly relates to the reality of Wolfheart being Elsa s superhero in the times
that she needed a brave soldier. Her idolization of Wolfheart s bravery continues through the novel
as Wolfheart proves to be a superhero in Elsa s reality. Wolfheart s heavy fists rain down

The two stories involved in my case study revolve around the protest ride against the tacking
bandit who for the past 22 months has been tacking the well loved cycling route, the Kew
Boulevard. The sources chosen by both the Channel 7 report and my own are central to the story in
that they entirely encapsulate the issue, that is, the sources themselves shape the story i.e. the
injured/tacked cyclists form the story . They shift the focus slightly to their affects/injuries from
the tacks so they have shown what significant event this is but also how we as an audience should
understand this to be i.e. bad man/woman throwing tacks is a disgrace look how many people are
injured then contrast that with people in powerful positions also being irate, calling for this should
stop.
Clearly here the Channel 7 story clearly explicates Hall s notions of the use of Primary defines by
new media by the use of the Premier. According to Hall, primary definers are authoritative sources
on an issue that can be seen to frame the discussions surrounding this is within the news (1978, p.
58) and all subsequent interpretations following the primary definer are then always compared
back to the initial primary interpretation (Hall et al. 1978, p. 58). He suggests broadcasters

Houston Elementary Shcool
Houston Elementary School is a small school in a rural area. Many of its students are stricken with
poverty, and find it a struggle to cope with day to day life. Teachers and staff do their best to aid the
students in this however they can. They modify their instructional methods to where students feel
comfortable, they provide food for the students to take home over the weekend, and they do their
best to ensure that every studentis being cared for.
Houston Elementary
Houston Elementary is a predominately white school. 413 white students are enrolled in Houston
Elementary, which is nearly 98% of all students. This is most likely due to the fact that many of
the current residents in Houston are part of a family who has been in the Ozark area for many
years. Although the population in Houston is mostly composed of white families, there are
families from different ethnic backgrounds present. The Elementary school has two black students
enrolled, two Asian students, and two Hispanic students. Therefore, all together 1.5% of Houston
s elementary students are from an ethnic race different from that of the white students. Many of
Houston s students are faced with poverty; this means that the students families are dealing with
financial challenges which are often due to loss of jobs or lack of available work. This financial
strain can make it difficult for families to afford to pay for their children s lunch every day. This

Qohlab Reflection
I compared the text from the New Interpreter s Study Bible to an interpretation from the Message
Bible. While there were several differences in the wording and vocabulary used, for the most part
this did not affect how a reader might interpret the reading. However, the ending verse of the NIB
version states One man among a thousand I found, but a woman among all these I have not found.
While the Message interpretation states I didn t find one man or woman in a thousand worth my
while. This difference points out how the culture and time period in which the translation was
made or written influences the interpretation. Both before and after this passage follow the
general idea of the entire book, a teacher preaching about his wisdom from his point of view. I
believe that the reading does not need any context from the previous readings in the book to
understand, but having an understanding of the author s logic and way of thinking does help to
better reflect on the passage. A major theme from the author himself that caught my eye was the
author s realistic, some might even say pessimistic, view on his interpretation of life. The author
states that the reality of life is that no one on Earth can do good and not sin during their life. Also,
the author states that life is not fair and just despite conventional wisdom. The major theme is that
Qoheleth, the Teacher as the authors refers to their self, is teaching us about the world from their
point of view and from the wisdom

Active Learning Is The Best Option Of Learning
Active learning is productive, enhances opportunities and is supported or directed by technology.
However, that is not to say that active learning is the best option of learning for all. To determine
how well students learn while not physically in a classroom we need to evaluate how well learning
takes place in on line classroom environments. Skorton (2013) documented that an online course
has the potential to transform higher educations with substantial benefits for students, their
eventual employers, and participating communities. Therefore, evaluation of learning
environments indicates a real measure of the effectiveness of what is learned. Experiments have
shown the way that it is beneficial to a person s daily activities or student however; from
experiences, there should be a means to demonstrate what is learned. Did learning take place, at
least to meet defined objectives from a class or other learning environments? To me learning via
collaborative, instructional, and with a team of mixed backgrounds can promote a higher degree
(Jones 1995). My initial thoughts on this subject were that active learning seems to be a bit more
difficult in an online course that it would be sitting in an actual classroom with the personal and
physical interactions of others. That is unless there are sessions providing interactive, near real
time or live online classes. Learning in a classroom or while sitting at home on the couch accessing
classrooms through online resources is

Krzysztof Sujata s Valiska Essay
Calgary musician Krzysztof Sujata s Valiska project makes music that toes the line between
ambient and drone often relying on peaceful soundscapes dotted with piano to set a framework,
then occasionally building to a towering crescendo with a web of static. It s all very naturally
motivated, though fittingly for its album art, Repetitions is sparsely organic, with plenty of room to
breathe chilly and cozy breaths. It s a record that challenges you to take much from very little over
40 minutes, there is rarely any rhythmic movement. It s true ambient music, and while it sometimes
falls into uninspired territory, Repetitions is still quite an interesting, minimalistic world to explore.
Clearing , the album s seven minute opener, sets the tone here to looped woodwinds and pianos, it
spins a thoughtful and experimental kind of patchwork of melodies. The song s second half works
through this same strange melody with reversed pianos, an unofficial musical motif for the record.
These pianos are often the album s greatest flaw; pretty, yes, but often quite dull, especially ... Show

Glide crescendos brilliantly out of a pensive piano line; the onslaught of clarinets, oboes, and
bassoons is nicely supplemented with a steely, shimmering synth effect at the end. Dawn , the
album s lead single, does something similar, if more elevated: here, a quavering field of piano and
flutes suddenly erupts into a hazy throbbing bass, then cools down with an organ sound on the
periphery, which reminds me to some extent of Hans Zimmer s score for Interstellar. It s an
excellent piece, maybe the best on the record; another standout is Held , whose heavenly and
mysterious flute line floats far above the raging far away storm of sound below it. It sounds like
music for a cold, alien planet; this is Repetitions at its

Questions On Writing And Writing
When writing, it is important to submit a paper that is both grammatically correct and punctually
error free. This is important for two reasons. First, the inattention to detail in your writing may
signal to the reader that you are inattentive in matters that are more important. Secondly, you risk
not only distracting readers from your message but also undermining your authority to deliver the
message in the first place.
The Comma Splice The comma splice, or run on sentence, may be the most common punctuation
error students make. This occurs when the writer joins two independent clauses without the use of
proper punctuation. This is important for several reasons. Since it is the most common error,
learning how to correct it will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When correcting or avoiding a run on sentence, some people forget the comma between the two
independent clauses when joining them with a coordinating conjunction. Similarly, others forget
the comma after an introductory dependant clause. Because I did so much research for this paper,
my grade should be much better than my last one. Commas are also required to set off
nonrestrictive clauses. The book I ordered from Barnes and Noble, Write Right, should help my
work greatly. Omitting commas from lists, or a series of items, is also a common problem. People
have the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Apostrophe Errors Apostrophes have two functions, you may use them to show possession, and
you may use them to form contractions (don t). Although A Manual for Writers does not strictly
prohibit the use of contractions, you are advised against it. To show possession, add an
apostrophe and an s to singular nouns and plural nouns that do not end with the s (the carpenter s
hammer). To show possession of a plural noun or words ending in the s, simply add the apostrophe
(carpenters union). An errant apostrophe can significantly change the meaning of sentence. It is
important for the reader to understand if you are speaking about something that belongs to the
doctor (the doctor s car), more than one doctor (doctors), or something belonging to a group of
doctors (the doctors practice). Spelling Errors Few things distract from a paper more

What Constitutes An Artifact Of Empire
What constitutes an artifact of empire
Structures that memorialize the nation s imperial gains and losses
Introduction
Public monuments and literature share a lot in common. At first sight, it might be difficult to relate
one to the other. However, deeply embedded in them they share a motif: an imagined community.
They embrace a sense of belonging; they represent a nation or an empire.
It is physically impossible for a person to meet every one of his fellow nationals; time and space
prevents it. So how can that person know that there are actually millions like him inside a given
country s borders? By representation. That representation can come in different ways. Two of them
are memorials and literature.
More so, the imagined community ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dracula depicts London as the brain of the British Empire, a centre that could be invaded by
contamination and disease. In this way, Dracula was used to ignite fears among the British
people. If compared to the over use of terrorism threats by George W. Bush and other political
figures, leading powers and empires feed off fears. Fearful population usually accept drastic
measures to continue their domination, and Dracula is a figure of that: how fear was used to
continue the domination of the British Empire. As with terrorism, Dracula is an external threat, an
imagined enemy whose promise is to destroy an empire. Dracula is feared economically in a
period where capitalism was emerging and where dominance over colonies was of utmost
importance. DraculaВґs voyage to the west, to London not only the capital of the British Empire
but the capital of the financial world , threatens to alter economic power balances. This can be seen
today in London, for example, with the threat of the Greek economic crisis. Economic fear still

Emotionality In A Rose For Emily By William Faulkner
A Rose for Emily is a short story in which William Faulkner, the author uses manipulation of time
and the perspective of the townspeople to present the life of a seemingly psychotic titular
character, Emily Grierson. Emily, throughout her life, faces the hardships of loneliness and
disconnection in life through the deaths of her loved ones and the coming of a transforming
society. When Emily s father dies, she loses the only person that was ever associated with her,
until she finally finds love for the first time in Homer Barron. However, Emily is crushed when
she realizes Homer is not looking to get together and kills him to preserve the only person she
found love in. Although Emily might be considered evil and psychopathic on the basis of her
actions alone, knowing her father s aggression, her loneliness, and the townspeople s
responsiveness towards her can lead one to react more sympathetically towards Emily. To
contextualize Emily s behavior, as a young lady, she was held back and restricted from engaging
in many activities and was symbolically shown to be in an abusive household. Through the
townspeople s description of the titular character and her father, it is evident that Emily grew
up with a father who was very aggressive and completely unlike her, which forms the reader to
feel sympathetically towards her, because she had never experienced the love from a family
anyone needs to grow and mature. The Townspeople long thought of them as a tableau (Faulkner
3), or a spectacle, and saw Emily as an innocent person hindered in the family. Emily is also
detailed as a slender figure in white (Faulkner 3), which expresses her purity compared to her
father who was a silhouette (Faulkner 3), or a dark figure visible dominantly over the light
figure of Emily. The abusiveness and dominance of Mr. Grierson is shown as he has his back to
her and clutching a horsewhip (Faulkner 3). Emily was fairly different from most southern belle
women at the time, as she was single until age 30 mainly because of all the young men her father
had driven away (Faulkner 3). As a human being, deaths are some of the most, if not the most,
damaging to one s mental state, and it s clear to feel sympathetic towards Emily and

The Things They Carried Short Story Analysis
Storytelling has been around since the dawn of mankind and Tim O Brien cleverly uses stories
in his novel, The Things They Carried, as well as a non linear plot to express certain aspects of
the book. In a time of war, Tim O Brien uses stories to show the reader a love story between two
soldiers, the loss of innocence of a love drunk man, and the power of Nam. The story of Curt and
Rat Kiley was a tragic one; O Brien cleverly uses his storytelling to feel the emotions that Rat was

expressed his emotions by beating up the baby water buffalo after supper time. It was am impactful

years of starting their career (Darling Hammond Sykes, 2003; Ingersoll, 2001, 2003). In high risk

Nursing Leadership and Management
An increase in patient acuities, readmissions, and requirement for patient satisfaction among other
issues has created a greater need for more registered nurses in the hospital setting. Quality and safe
patient care is a direct correlation to the number of staff. With the demand of nurses on the rise,
some health care institutions have not readjusted the nurse patient ratios and the result is decreased
patient satisfaction, increased mortality/morbidity in patients, more health care associated infection,
and decreased employee satisfaction; leading to burnout and decreased staff ... Show more content

A leadership approach to staffing issues may focus on how the current staff can work together to
provide quality care that is necessary for patient satisfaction, without experiencing burnout. While a
leader should keep budget and costs in mind, their focus should be using the available resources and
staff to attain the same goal as management. A leadership approach would be optimizing nursing
intensity based on actual patient needs to address the perceived nursing shortage by creating a
better fit between patient demands and the available nursing resources used in the clinical setting.
(Welton, 2007).
The approach that fits the author s personal and professional philosophy of nursing would be
that of leadership. Patient satisfaction has a direct correlation with employee satisfaction. While
there is an issue of lack of staffing related to current hospital census and patient s increased
needs, the best solution that is available to all facilities is creating a positive environment in
which the available staff is motivated to provide the best possible care to all patients. Hiring a
team that is willing to work together in a busy, hectic setting is the key to providing quality care.
Leaders are able to motivate staff, enhance interpersonal relationships between staff and
management, offer incentives for hard work, and provide positive feedback. Staff members who

Causes Of Unemployment In Australia
Analyse the causes of unemployment, its effects on the Australian economy and how they are
addressed through use of macroeconomic policies. Unemployment refers to when an individual
is actively seeking work and is aged 15 years or over, but is unable to find work (not hired). There
are many causes and effects of unemployment that result in different actions being made by the
Australian government through their use of both monetary policy as well as fiscal policy. The
unemployment rate is calculated by measuring the number of unemployed over the total labour
force (anyone 15 years or older who currently has a job or is actively seeking) [x100]. While the
government does not aim for 0% unemployment as this has negative consequences, it is... Show

E.g. Cyclone Debbie, which tore down many banana plantations in Queensland, rendering those
farmers who worked there and were unable to work after the cyclone were/are seasonally
unemployed as the environmental conditions do not suit their needs. An increase or decrease in the
unemployment rate can have a multiple effects on the Australian economy, both beneficial as well
detrimental to the economic conditions and the societal outlook. An increase in the unemployment
rate means that more individuals do not have an income, thus meaning many households suffer
reduced disposable funds. This causes a decrease in the level of aggregate demand within the
economy and therefore reduces economic growth. This in turn causes a slower circular flow of
income, meaning that households may be forced into or past poverty, as a result of the lowered
income generated, reducing the living standards and quality of life. The downturn experienced by
the economy can also offset many individuals seeing them not wanting to return back to the
workforce due to the lack of jobs available, making them long term unemployed rather than
cyclically unemployed, or if the firm initially was promoting structural change, structurally
unemployed. Combined with poverty, the aspect of unemployment can lead to other severe mental

I found meditation helpful because it was a great way to escape from life for a small amount of

breathing and tensing helped me out the most when it comes to focusing and relaxing. What I
enjoyed most was the effects of the back bends and front bends in yoga, I felt the most relaxed

my fullest ability were the affirmations, most of the time the affirmations had an effect on me.
The quotes mentioned in class were inspirational to me and allowed me to understand the

Pryor, MS amp; Taneja, S 2010, Henry Fayol, practitioner and theoretician revered and reviled ,
Journal of Management History, vol. 16, no. 4, pp. 489 503.
The purpose of this paper by Pryor amp; Taneja (2010) is to illustrate through examining
contemporary management and management theories how Fayol s contribution of his principles
and model theory is relevant in management today.
This is done by a process of researching and examining the work of major academics (e.g.
Mintzberg (1989), Porter (1985), Taylor (1947), Kotter (1982), amp; Berdaves (2002)) Pryor and
Taneja (2010) compare the works and ideas of both Fayol and these authors to find the similarities
and differences between their theories.
A limitation of this article may be the large focus of similarities between studies, paying rare
attention to the differences between Fayol and the given management theorist. Future studies on
this issue should be undertaken in an argumentative manner, given equivalent attention to both
aspects of the argument. Indeed; this article supports the conclusions of similar studies (e.g.
Rodrigues, 2001. Archer, 1990. Fells, 2000) that Fayol s theory is relevant today, and that his 5
management functions are evident in all organisations (Hales 1986). Another shared conclusion
between journals is that Fayol s work sets the foundations of management practise and theory today.

ensure workplace stability and positive effects of the employees need for
satisfaction. Using the survey for different types of groups (especially leadership) within the

Conclusion
The initial analysis of Likert scale measurement should not involve variables, but should rely on
the ordinal data. These scales usually represent a constant fundamental measure, and the
individual variables should be used as a pilot measurement s of testing (Sullivan and Artino,
2013). Combining Likert scales into tables adds values and variability to the data. If the
assumptions of regularity are met, analysis with variable procedures can be followed. Finally,
converting a five or seven category instrument to a sufficient variable is possible. Find the
sample size is a great factor of projecting the scales final analysis in accordance with the point
scale system that would be needed. The respondents liking or take on the questions will
determine the non bias answer. The target audience could be a wide range of people but
determining the questions to coincide with those answers are a factor. There is a limitation to the
sample size and to the data collected. In a stress related survey there are more suggestive areas of
research for morale in a workplace to consider. So the information for certain criteria will be used
in the survey and to encounter. The properties of

Barbie Stereotypes
There have been several articles calling attention to the images children are exposed in cartoons,
or Disney productions, but what about the toys they play with? In the death grip of my two year
old sister, like many other young girls, lies a fairy princess Barbie doll. Barbie has been the toy of
choice for girls everywhere since her debut fifty years ago, representing the ideal girl with a
perfect life to match that can not be achieved. Barbie and other dolls alike negatively affect young
girls causing body image issues and low self esteem.
Since 1965, Barbie, and more recently, the Bratz line of dolls, have been the poster children for
beauty, despite their grotesquely disproportionate appearance. Barbie and Bratz dolls were meant
to represents average girls in their teen years tall, flowing hair and incredibly thin, a body image
that is not possible for every girl, though Mattel s slogan Barbie can be anything! And so can you!
might suggest otherwise. For the company to insist young girls compare themselves to the piece
of plastic that is a Barbie doll, is completely outrageous. Looking at the doll s physical
appearance, it s clear that a real person could never embody this image. Breaking down the doll s
structure, there are feet readily bent for high heels, long muscular legs and thin arms, not to
mention the fact that the head of a Barbie or Bratz doll exceeds the width of it s waist! To even
begin to entertain this image is unrealistic. What are we telling

Narrative Essay On Daisy Buchanan
As I stepped onward onto the scorching New York streets, Daisy s hand in mine, I glanced back at
the illustrious structure of the Plaza Hotel, in utter disgust of the confrontation which occurred
moments prior. How dare that Tom Buchanan disenfranchise me and my business? How dare he
disrespect me in front of my one true love: Daisy. My mindsoon drifted to her as she released her
hand from mine and approached my yellow coupe. She gazed at the ground with lost
apprehension. I fetched my keys from my coat pocket. Would you like to drive? It should help

Aldo Leopold And Schaeffer s Personal Land Ethic
Aldo Leopold and Schaeffer have both been key contributors to my beliefs and opinions and
they have helped me shape my own personal land ethic. In Leopold s essay titled The Land Ethic
he makes several great points. Among these I have found the community concept, substitutes for
a land ethic and the future outlook to be the most important. Leopold states, All ethics so far
evolved rest upon a single premise: that the individual is a member of a community of
interdependent parts (p.2). As humans we have a job and typically we show care for the things
that we really like and enjoy. But a question we need to ask ourselves is who do we love and what
do we care about? We live in community with everything around us including the plants, and all...

I believe that we need to think of the Earth as a gift and a home. We must take care of our Earth
but our personal health must come before Earth s. Lastly, our decision making should be guided
by the Bible and my common sense. Our Earth is truly a gift and it is a good gift from God.
Genesis 1:31 states, God saw all that we made, and it was very good . We need to change the
way that we look at the Earth. Normally if we get a really nice gift we treasure it and do our best
to protect it. This is the same mindset that we need to have about our land. Secondly, we do need
to recognize that we have dominion over the Earth. God created us to take care of the Earth. In
the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth and then he created man to be stewards of
it. It is important not to get to crazy and do things to harm the Earth but we must also remain
healthy. Humans come before the land and they always should. Lastly, when living on Earth we
must make good decisions. These decisions should be based on what our teachings tell us and
our common sense. It is just common sense that cutting down a tree or throwing a wrapper out
the yard will harm the Earth. This semester I have learned so much, and thought deeply about
many topics. I know that the Earth is a gift and we are so blessed to have this beautiful creation
to live in. The many field trips that we went on made me realize many things about our Earth that
I didn t realize. Specifically the wastewater treatment we went on made me realize how much
waste we produce and it makes me feel like we are hurting our Earth. Too often people don t think
about the things that they are doing to our Earth. Psalm 8:6 states, You made him ruler over the
works of your hands; you put everything under his feet . The Bible states many times in context
that we are to care for the Earth we have been

Hunt Companies, Inc. ( Hci )
Hunt Companies, Inc. (HCI) is a general contractor. HCI has been building and remodeling fast
food restaurants for the past 30 years. Two years ago, HCI added a residential division.
Residential construction is very different than commercial, in that clients are more finicky and
change their minds more frequently, leading to a lot of re work and punch list issues. At the end
of each project, the project manager walks through the jobsite with the customer to make sure
everything is done according to the customer s desires and nothing is missing/ wrong/ unfinished.
Any items that the customer claims must be done before the project is truly complete go into the
punch list. The crew goes back to the site and addresses all the items on the list, at which point
we consider the job 100% done. Since the crew at HCI has been focused on commercial projects
up until recently, they tend to often cut corners and get away with not following the specifications
to a T . This has become a problem in the residential business, directly affecting the residential
division profitability. When workers have to go back to fix things that should have been done
correctly in the first place, it costs the company their time and the extra materials needed. Moreover,
customers are disappointed to find problems in the project, which decreases goodwill and HCI s
ability to build strong customer relationships. As there are many steps in a construction project, for

Cromwell s Responsibility For Expansions And Effectiveness...
Cromwell s Responsibility For Expansions And Effectiveness Of Government Between 1530 and
1539
The most influential and controversial thesis concerning Cromwell s role in the revolution in
government in the 1530s was Elton s The Tudor Revolution in Government . In this work, Elton
asses Cromwell as the most remarkable revolutionary in English history. . Elton argued that
Cromwell seized the unique opportunity presented by Henry VIII s martial problems to turn
England into a unified, independent sovereign state, ruled by a constitutional monarch through
national and bureaucratic institutions. This is certainly true to an extent however it could be
argued that these changes were reactionary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The appointments of both the Earl of Norfolk and Charles Brandon, Earl of Suffolk, seem
indicative of a politically and religiously conservative council. These facts obviously take
responsibility for these changes away from Cromwell.
The importance of the executive Privvy Council is that it gave drive and continuity to royal
government owing to the stability of its membership no longer did the impetus need to come
from the monarch or chief minister. This would be particularly important after Cromwell s
downfall in the 1540s, when Henry did not allow another Cromwell to emerge and his powers
were failing, and even more after 1547 when Edward VI was a boy, succeeded by two women.
The Privvy Council took over responsibility for the executive. It had certainly taken over the
management of the day to day business on behalf of the monarch by Elizabeth s reign, but it is most
doubtful that this occurred in the 1530s or that Cromwell planned it.
Several other objections have been raised to Elton s assessment of the development of the Privvy
Council. Elton argued that Cromwell was able by the reorganisation of the haphazard medieval
Council into a more formally constituted board of government; and by the promotion of the
principal secretary (himself) to get himself appointed the chief executive and co ordinating minister.
Rather than judging it to be part of Cromwell s plan to

The Victorian Period And The Romantic Period
Victorian literature is that produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (1837 1901) also known
as the Victorian era. It forms a link and transition between the writers of the romantic period and
the literature of the 20th century. The 19th century is often regarded as a high point in British
literature as well as in other countries such as France, the United States and Russia. Books, and
novels in particular, became well known, and the Victorian novelist created a legacy of works
with continuing appeal. Many novels were published in serial form, along with short stories and
poetry, in such literary magazines as Household Words. After the upheavals of the romantic
period, Poetry became somewhat institutionalised in the Victorian era. (Victorian Literature)
During the course of the 19th century, the question of women s roles and rights was widely
debated.Questions like How should women should be educated? What was their proper place in
society? Should they be allowed to work outside the home? Should they be able to vote and have
a political voice? These and a range of other issues constituted what the Victorians termed The
Woman Question , which was fervently analysed in discussion groups, in the press, in parliament,
and in scientific and medical circles as women pushed for greater recognition and equality.
Changes in social expectations and in legislation were achieved very slowly the vote was only
granted to women over 30 in 1918 and women over 21 in 1928, for

A Streetcar Named Desire Illusion Vs Reality Analysis
One s desire for a better sense of self perception has the power to convince themselves that living
in a state of illusions is more fulfilling than facing the reality of their problems. When an individual
is faced with the idea that others see them as a negative character, as per human nature, the
individual will turn to their own self perception to get a better opinion of themselves and,
completely ignore their own ability to see the differences between illusion and reality. As the result
of being placed in an unfamiliar environment, surrounded by conflicts that one cannot understand

Disadvantages Of Foreign Aid
Before we start talking and analyzing aid in all its dimensions, one has first to better understand
what aid represents in all its complicity. Beginning with the theories of aid during the last sanctuary,
we can say that different disciplines of theoreticians give diverse interpretations of the phenomenon
of foreign aid. The realists think that the most important dimension of aid is its purpose, especially
when it is used as an instrument of diplomacy. Given the assumption that states behave in an
anarchic environment, the realists see foreign aid as an instrument used to ensure state security,
protection of its political and economic interests. Therefore, taking into consideration that aid in this
case is given having donor`s interests at the core of motivation, its capability to achieve
developmental purposes are meagre. On the other hand, the Marxists school of thought and
postmodern tradition relates aid to the dependency theory by dividing foreign aid in tow group of

Pros And Cons Of The Postzygotic Barrier Of Species
What defines a species is a very difficult question to answer. Variations are everywhere, but at
some point those variations grow to where the species are different. Two common problems come
up when looking at what makes a species a species. The first is what to do with hybrids and when
are they considered a different species. The second is the issue of asexual reproduction. There are
many different definitions of the word species and they all have their pros and cons when it
comes to addressing these issues and describing what makes a species distinct from another
species. One of the most common definitions for species is the following, a group of populations
whose members have the potential to interbreed in nature and produce viable, fertile offspring but
do not produce viable, fertile offspring with members of other groups. This definition makes sense
when one thinks that a monkey cannot mate with a cat. The creation of viable and fertile offspring
depends on the avoidance of both prezygotic and postzygotic barriers that put a stop to it.
Prezygotic barriers refer to barriers that happen before creation of the zygote including habitat,
temporal, behavioral, mechanical, and gametic isolation. All of these factors prevent successful
mating. Postzygotic barriers happen after an offspring has been conceived. The... Show more

Examples Of Biblical Allusion In Cry The Beloved Country
In Alan Paton s compelling novel Cry, The Beloved Country published in 1948, he eloquently
writes about the characters Stephen Kumalo and James Jarvis to tell a story with a momentous
message about the effect of apartheid in South Africa. Paton expertly solidifies his dynamic and
forceful writing in his novel with his uses of various literary elements like imagery, diction,
allusions, motifs, and even the simplicity of his poetic writing voice. Although, in chapter 36 Alan
Patons use of biblical allusions and connotative diction serve to help the reader better understand
and to highlight the change that is to come to the racial unjust country.
Biblical allusions are all throughout the Cry, The Beloved Country , everywhere from names to
direct quotations from holy scripture. Chapter 36 is no different with the presence of biblical
allusions. Paton uses the biblical allusions to enhance the reader s understanding of the
circumstances. The use of allusions in this chapter also adds an undertone that greatly advances
the power of the words in the text. One example that Paton uses is when Stephen Kumalo goes on
a journey towards the mountain. The biblical aspect comes into play because of a direct and
indirect biblical correlation. Firstly, Kumalo goes to the mountain to be closer to God; yet it also

  • 3. Daniel H. Pink s Theory Regardless of where I go, that one urge to develop myself will always be there. Motivation for me has been somewhat of a simple term until I discovered the different types. I feel as though I have a fair amount of control regarding my future career because I can t take some classes just yet without getting into other classes. I have not very much control over if the class gets full or is not a good time to take or even require some prerequisites. The two motivations that have been discussed in the book Drive by Daniel H. Pink, come from inside and outside. As I already know that some of our motivationis going based off of our instincts as humans and other parts of motivation come from a reward or a punishment, but there has been a third type discovered that has explained the reason for wanting to grow as a person and it is known as motivation 3.0. I agree that motivation 1.0 and 2.0 are useful to an extent because of my experience with both types working then at some point being limited or losing motivation confirms it. Pink states that motivation 2.0 works but not that well and it is not something to rely on (P.19). I wantto be a registered nurse and going based off of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pink s theory of motivation 3.0 is extremely useful because it sheds light on the type of motivation that seems to actually work so far. Motivation can come from various sources such as internally as something we know or are born to do or externally whether it is something we learn or develop. I plan to implement motivation 3.0 into my career field because it requires what motivation 3.0 has, I will need to practice, work on getting better and work on things after work is over. The goal that I have set for myself from what I ve noticed will get me to the spot that I want to be in one way or another. There are different types of motivation but they can be compared to one ... The vision for South Africa during the 1890 s saw for various issues that needed to be dealt with. The visions of Cecil John Rhodes and Olive Schreiner represent conflicting views about the nature of the relationship between power and racial notions. Rhodes a British born capitalist, with a vision to defend and extend the British Empire and Olive Schreiner, a novelist, who envisioned a party that has a great form of leadership without any racial prejudice and has no attributes of self seeking enrichments through the use of power . This is clear in that his original vision for South Africa, was one that implied and sought for nothing less than the defence and extension of the British Empire . My professor, Dr. Justin Levitev from Loyola University in New Orleans, was teaching counseling techniques. So, as is typical of such a class, we students were role playing counseling sessions. Whenever the counselor asked the client a why question, as well as other mistakes, Dr. Justin would ring a bell. I quickly learned not to ask why questions. At that point, I also learned to not to ask why questions in my day to day life. • 10. Negligence Was Introduced By The Australian Courts As A... AContributory negligence was introduced by the Australian courts as a complete defence should the plaintiff claim the defendant had been negligent in their actions. The Law Reform Act 199510 was introduced however to allow for apportionment of damages in cases regarding contributory negligence. In section 10 of the Law Reform Act 1995 this principle is described as if a plaintiff s damage is the result partly of the plaintiff s fault and partly of the fault of the defendant, the plaintiff can still recover damages from the defendant but the amount of damages is reduced to the extent that the court thinks just and equitable having regard to the plaintiff s share in the responsibility for the damage. 10 As a defence, contributory negligence has been used successfully to reduce the damages for the defendant to pay. In Wei Fan v South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (No.2)11, this principle was introduced by the defence to illustrate that they were not liable for the exacerbation of the plaintiff s condition. The plaintiff attempted to claim for damages for the following conditions; diabetes type 2, progression of cholecystitis, fractured skull and traumatic brain injury. By applying contributory negligence to the case, the liability of the conditions was entirely placed on the plaintiff due to discharging himself from three hospitals within the district against medical advice. • 11. Social Class In Great Expectations By Charles Dickens Through the Social Class Society has developed the concept of social class, to categorized people into different groups based on economic, political, and socio economic status. This concept has made it difficult for the middle and lower class to succeed. Charles Dickens had a sense of writing during the Victorian Era as it sought to represent a large and comprehensive social world, with a variety of classes. Novels during this time were made to be realistic and Charles Dickens excelled at doing that and exceeded expectations. One of his most famous novels, Great Expectations was set in early Victorian Era when great social changes were sweeping the nation. Charles Dickens s Great Expectations tells the story of Pip, an English orphan who rises to wealth, deserts his true friends, and becomes humbled by his own arrogance. This piece, and a couple other of his pieces including one of his short novels, George Silverman s Explanation and a poem classifying the rich, The Fine Old English Gentleman developed a concept of social class. Throughout each of the three pieces, the social class is somehow brought up, whether that being a short snippet, or the way it can change someone throughout the classifications of the social class. Charles Dickens s Great Expectations was during a time where great social changes were sweeping the nation. Although social class was no longer entirely dependent on the circumstances of one s birth, the divisions between rich and poor remained nearly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Disadvantages Of Electric Cars Everyday people use cars to get from one place to another, whether that s from their home to work or from work to the airport or even city thousands of miles away. Cars especially in the United States are hailed as efficient forms of transportation because of their ease of use and relative affordability. However, in recent years with the rise in crude oil prices and the demand for more efficient vehicles alternative fuel sources have gained more traction than in the past. However, the many caveats of complex technology and increased price are major drawbacks which must be considered when looking at electric cars. In the end electric cars are better for the environment due to increased performance and reduced overall CO2 emissions. At the turn of the nineteenth century electric cars made up nearly a third of the cars in the United States, while today they don t even make up one percent as stated by Cadie Thompson. Electric cars were hailed for their ease of operation, lack of smell, as well as their easiness to operate. Although there were many upsides electric carproduction peaked in 1912. By this time Henry Ford s mass production and assembly lines made internal combustion vehicles, both cheaper and more popular making electric cars somewhat obsolete. One of the main limitations of electric cars is the battery technology, which is used to power the electric cars. In the 1990s GM attempted to create an electric car called the EV 1, it used primitive cheap lead acid batteries. A limitation of this vehicle was the range it was between 55 and 95 miles which is nothing compared to an average of around 300 for a combustion powered vehicle. With the rise of rechargeable batteries in devices like laptops, phones, and even power tools battery technology has made leaps and bounds. The batteries used in these devices are light, but powerful and are perfect for electric cars. These lithium ion batteries aren t perfect however, they are extremely expensive, which limits the market for electric vehicles. As Kevin Bullis said To cut costs, the lithium ion powered electric cars made today by companies such as Nissan and GM use small battery packs with a range if less than 100 miles. (Bullis). • 13. Italy Adopted A Realist Strategy It is based on a view of the individual as primarily fearful, selfish and power seeking. Individuals organize in states, each of which acts in pursuit of its own national interest (Mingst and Arreguin Toft, 2014: 79) In light of this definition, it is possible to state that Italy adopted a realist strategy in non acting against Libya. In the lack of reaction and in not taking a strong line of action towards the African country, the aim of the Italian policy makers was to preserve the country s own interests. Policy makers emphasized the abstention from opening fire on Libyan forces as part of Rome s strategy of smoothing its role in the Libyan intervention. Although Italy was involved in the U.S. European intervention in Libya, they did not actually attack the troops of their close ally, Moammar Gaddafi. Rome s continuous insistence on highlighting that it was both part of the intervention but had abstained from playing an aggressive role against Gaddafi was a strategy to allow Italy to continue to balance the rebels in the east with the relationship with Gaddafi in the west of Libya. Italy had too many interests in Libya to pick one side and react consequently. As previously stated, Italy s business, energy and national security interests would be directly impacted by the happenings in Libya. Italy had investments worth an estimated 11 billion American Dollars in Libya (Lombard, 2012: 37 39). While it had assets in eastern Libya, the majority of them were in the west ... Manners and Etiquette of Pride and Prejudice Rebekah Johnson Mrs. Tencza Late European History 21 November 2012 Do s and Don ts of Pride and Prejudice In 19th century England, manners played a big role. In her book Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen portrays many different aspects of English social manners in the 1800s, and these facets of English etiquette, including traveling etiquette, social propriety, and dancing, greatly affect the plot of the book. One aspect of English social etiquette was the set of strict rules for how one was to act to appear as a socially adept person and therefore a desirable match for marriage. While there were several differences in the wording and vocabulary used, for the most part this did not affect how a reader might interpret the reading. However, the ending verse of the NIB version states One man among a thousand I found, but a woman among all these I have not found. While the Message interpretation states I didn t find one man or woman in a thousand worth my while. This difference points out how the culture and time period in which the translation was made or written influences the interpretation. Both before and after this passage follow the general idea of the entire book, a teacher preaching about his wisdom from his point of view. I believe that the reading does not need any context from the previous readings in the book to understand, but having an understanding of the author s logic and way of thinking does help to better reflect on the passage. A major theme from the author himself that caught my eye was the author s realistic, some might even say pessimistic, view on his interpretation of life. The author states that the reality of life is that no one on Earth can do good and not sin during their life. Also, the author states that life is not fair and just despite conventional wisdom. However, that is not to say that active learning is the best option of learning for all. To determine how well students learn while not physically in a classroom we need to evaluate how well learning takes place in on line classroom environments. Skorton (2013) documented that an online course has the potential to transform higher educations with substantial benefits for students, their eventual employers, and participating communities. Therefore, evaluation of learning environments indicates a real measure of the effectiveness of what is learned. Experiments have shown the way that it is beneficial to a person s daily activities or student however; from experiences, there should be a means to demonstrate what is learned. Did learning take place, at least to meet defined objectives from a class or other learning environments? To me learning via collaborative, instructional, and with a team of mixed backgrounds can promote a higher degree (Jones 1995). My initial thoughts on this subject were that active learning seems to be a bit more difficult in an online course that it would be sitting in an actual classroom with the personal and physical interactions of others. First, the inattention to detail in your writing may signal to the reader that you are inattentive in matters that are more important. Secondly, you risk not only distracting readers from your message but also undermining your authority to deliver the message in the first place. The Comma Splice The comma splice, or run on sentence, may be the most common punctuation error students make. • 32. Emotionality In A Rose For Emily By William Faulkner A Rose for Emily is a short story in which William Faulkner, the author uses manipulation of time and the perspective of the townspeople to present the life of a seemingly psychotic titular character, Emily Grierson. Emily, throughout her life, faces the hardships of loneliness and disconnection in life through the deaths of her loved ones and the coming of a transforming society. When Emily s father dies, she loses the only person that was ever associated with her, until she finally finds love for the first time in Homer Barron. However, Emily is crushed when she realizes Homer is not looking to get together and kills him to preserve the only person she found love in. Although Emily might be considered evil and psychopathic on the basis of her actions alone, knowing her father s aggression, her loneliness, and the townspeople s responsiveness towards her can lead one to react more sympathetically towards Emily. To contextualize Emily s behavior, as a young lady, she was held back and restricted from engaging in many activities and was symbolically shown to be in an abusive household. Through the townspeople s description of the titular character and her father, it is evident that Emily grew up with a father who was very aggressive and completely unlike her, which forms the reader to feel sympathetically towards her, because she had never experienced the love from a family anyone needs to grow and mature. The Townspeople long thought of them as a tableau (Faulkner 3), or a spectacle, and saw Emily as an innocent person hindered in the family. Emily is also detailed as a slender figure in white (Faulkner 3), which expresses her purity compared to her father who was a silhouette (Faulkner 3), or a dark figure visible dominantly over the light figure of Emily. The abusiveness and dominance of Mr. Grierson is shown as he has his back to her and clutching a horsewhip (Faulkner 3). Emily was fairly different from most southern belle women at the time, as she was single until age 30 mainly because of all the young men her father had driven away (Faulkner 3). As a human being, deaths are some of the most, if not the most, damaging to one s mental state, and it s clear to feel sympathetic towards Emily and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Quality and safe patient care is a direct correlation to the number of staff. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A leadership approach to staffing issues may focus on how the current staff can work together to provide quality care that is necessary for patient satisfaction, without experiencing burnout. While a leader should keep budget and costs in mind, their focus should be using the available resources and staff to attain the same goal as management. A leadership approach would be optimizing nursing intensity based on actual patient needs to address the perceived nursing shortage by creating a better fit between patient demands and the available nursing resources used in the clinical setting. (Welton, 2007). The approach that fits the author s personal and professional philosophy of nursing would be that of leadership. Unemployment refers to when an individual is actively seeking work and is aged 15 years or over, but is unable to find work (not hired). There are many causes and effects of unemployment that result in different actions being made by the Australian government through their use of both monetary policy as well as fiscal policy. An increase in the unemployment rate means that more individuals do not have an income, thus meaning many households suffer reduced disposable funds. This causes a decrease in the level of aggregate demand within the economy and therefore reduces economic growth. This in turn causes a slower circular flow of income, meaning that households may be forced into or past poverty, as a result of the lowered income generated, reducing the living standards and quality of life. The downturn experienced by the economy can also offset many individuals seeing them not wanting to return back to the workforce due to the lack of jobs available, making them long term unemployed rather than cyclically unemployed, or if the firm initially was promoting structural change, structurally unemployed. The purpose of this paper by Pryor amp; Taneja (2010) is to illustrate through examining contemporary management and management theories how Fayol s contribution of his principles and model theory is relevant in management today. This is done by a process of researching and examining the work of major academics (e.g. Mintzberg (1989), Porter (1985), Taylor (1947), Kotter (1982), amp; Berdaves (2002)) Pryor and Taneja (2010) compare the works and ideas of both Fayol and these authors to find the similarities and differences between their theories. A limitation of this article may be the large focus of similarities between studies, paying rare attention to the differences between Fayol and the given management theorist. Future studies on this issue should be undertaken in an argumentative manner, given equivalent attention to both aspects of the argument. Indeed; this article supports the conclusions of similar studies (e.g. Rodrigues, 2001. Archer, 1990. Fells, 2000) that Fayol s theory is relevant today, and that his 5 management functions are evident in all organisations (Hales 1986). In this work, Elton asses Cromwell as the most remarkable revolutionary in English history. . Elton argued that Cromwell seized the unique opportunity presented by Henry VIII s martial problems to turn England into a unified, independent sovereign state, ruled by a constitutional monarch through national and bureaucratic institutions. This is certainly true to an extent however it could be argued that these changes were reactionary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The appointments of both the Earl of Norfolk and Charles Brandon, Earl of Suffolk, seem indicative of a politically and religiously conservative council. These facts obviously take responsibility for these changes away from Cromwell. The importance of the executive Privvy Council is that it gave drive and continuity to royal government owing to the stability of its membership no longer did the impetus need to come from the monarch or chief minister. This would be particularly important after Cromwell s downfall in the 1540s, when Henry did not allow another Cromwell to emerge and his powers were failing, and even more after 1547 when Edward VI was a boy, succeeded by two women. The Privvy Council took over responsibility for the executive. It had certainly taken over the management of the day to day business on behalf of the monarch by Elizabeth s reign, but it is most doubtful that this occurred in the 1530s or that Cromwell planned it. Several other objections have been raised to Elton s assessment of the development of the Privvy Council. Elton argued that Cromwell was able by the reorganisation of the haphazard medieval Council into a more formally constituted board of government; and by the promotion of the principal secretary (himself) to get himself appointed the chief executive and co ordinating minister. Rather than judging it to be part of Cromwell s plan to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Disadvantages Of Foreign Aid Before we start talking and analyzing aid in all its dimensions, one has first to better understand what aid represents in all its complicity. Beginning with the theories of aid during the last sanctuary, we can say that different disciplines of theoreticians give diverse interpretations of the phenomenon of foreign aid. The realists think that the most important dimension of aid is its purpose, especially when it is used as an instrument of diplomacy. Given the assumption that states behave in an anarchic environment, the realists see foreign aid as an instrument used to ensure state security, protection of its political and economic interests. Therefore, taking into consideration that aid in this case is given having donor`s interests at the core of motivation, its capability to achieve developmental purposes are meagre. • 56. Pros And Cons Of The Postzygotic Barrier Of Species What defines a species is a very difficult question to answer. Variations are everywhere, but at some point those variations grow to where the species are different. Two common problems come up when looking at what makes a species a species. The first is what to do with hybrids and when are they considered a different species. The second is the issue of asexual reproduction. There are many different definitions of the word species and they all have their pros and cons when it comes to addressing these issues and describing what makes a species distinct from another species. One of the most common definitions for species is the following, a group of populations whose members have the potential to interbreed in nature and produce viable, fertile offspring but do not produce viable, fertile offspring with members of other groups. This definition makes sense when one thinks that a monkey cannot mate with a cat. The creation of viable and fertile offspring depends on the avoidance of both prezygotic and postzygotic barriers that put a stop to it. Prezygotic barriers refer to barriers that happen before creation of the zygote including habitat, temporal, behavioral, mechanical, and gametic isolation. All of these factors prevent successful mating. Postzygotic barriers happen after an offspring has been conceived. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of allusions in this chapter also adds an undertone that greatly advances the power of the words in the text. One example that Paton uses is when Stephen Kumalo goes on a journey towards the mountain. The biblical aspect comes into play because of a direct and indirect biblical correlation.
