Machine learning and operations research to find diabetics at risk for readmisison.
A team of researchers was able to apply machine learning to reduce readmissions for diabetics, see "Identifying diabetic patients with high risk of readmission" (Bhuvan,Kumar, Zafar, Aand Kishore, 2016).
An excellent article that uses predictive and optimization methods to reduce hospital readmissions.
Another great article, "Reducing hospital readmissions by integrating empirical prediction with resource optimization" (Helm, Alaeddini, Stauffer, Bretthaur, and Skolarus, 2016) describes how Machine Learning modeling tools were used to determine the root-causes and individualized estimation of readmissions. The post-discharge monitoring schedule and workplans were then optimized to patient changes in health states.

The health care system is increasingly adopting the use of electronic health records. This has led to an increase in the quantity of clinical data that is available. As a result, big data has been adopted as a way of analyzing these large quantities of data. The main reason why big data technology has gained popularity is because it can be able to handle large volumes of data compared to the traditional methods(Wang et al., 2018). It also supports all kinds of data including the structured, semi-structured and unstructured. It also provides predictive model design and data mining tools and this makes the decision making process to be better. Big data framework allows for batch processing as well as stream processing of information. Batch processing makes the analysis of data within a specific period of time possible (Wang et al., 2018). On the other hand, stream processing is used for applications which need real-time feedback. Applications of big data analytics in health care leads to an improvement in the patient-based services as well as detection and control of spread of diseases. It also leads to new knowledge and intelligence as a result of the integration and analysis of data with different nature. Therefore, the use of big data analytics in the health sector has increased due to the need for improved medical services, faster analysis of information and accuracy, and cost reduction.
The main role of the health care sector is to ensure that the population remains healthy. Therefore, there is need for better service delivery at all times. Big data analytics have enhanced the ability to provide the services to the patients in a number of ways. First of all, it has positively resulted to better image processing (Wang &Hajli, 2017). This has enhanced the processes of diagnosis, therapy assessment and planning. Medical images present the data that is used in all these processes. As such, big data analytics provides for an efficient way of storing the information because it requires large storage capacities in the long run. The demand for accuracy also makes big data analytics an efficient tool to use in the analysis of information related to image processing.
Signal processing is another area in medicine that requires the use of big data analytics. This is because it results to production of large volumes of data which require being stored in high speeds from several monitors and different patients(Wang &Hajli, 2017). On the other hand, physiological signals also have a problem because of the spatiotemporal nature. This makes the analysis of such signals to be more meaningful when they are analyzed alongside the situat.
Introduction: Postponement of elective scheduled operations results in inefficient use of operating room (OR) time on the day of surgery. Inconvenience to patients and families also caused by postponements. Moreover, day of surgery (DOS) postponement creates logistic and financial burden associated with extended hospital stay and repetitions of pre-operative preparations to an extend of repetition of investigations in some cases causing escalated costs, wastage of time and reduced income. Methodology: A cross sectional study was done in the operation theaters of a tertiary care hospital in which total ten operation theaters of General Surgery Data of scheduled, performed and postponed surgeries was collected from all the operation theater with effect from march 1st to September 30th 2018. A questionnaire was developed to find out the reasons for the postponement for all hospital’s stakeholders (Surgeons, Anesthetist, Nursing officer) and they were further evaluated Time series analysis of scheduling of Operation Theater for Moving average Technique. Results: total 2,466 surgeries were scheduled and 1,980 surgeries were performed and 486 surgeries were postponed in the general surgery department during the study period. Month wise postponement forecast was in accordance with the performed surgeries and on regression analysis postponed surgeries were in perfect linear relationship with the postponement Rate.
HQR Framework optimization for predicting patient treatment time in big datadbpublications
Today most of the hospital face overcrowded with patients long queues for different tasks. Hospital management face difficulty to handle these patients to provide optimal treatment time for each patients waiting in the long queue. Unnecessary and annoying waits for long periods result in substantial human resource and time wastage and increase the frustration endured by patients. It would be convenient and preferable if the patients could receive the most efficient treatment plan and know the predicted waiting time updates in real time. Because of the large-scale, realistic data-set and the requirement for real-time response, the PTTP algorithm and HQR system mandate efficiency and low-latency response. Extensive experimentation and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed model to recommend an effective and convenient treatment plan for patients to minimize their wait times in hospitals.

Agent Oriented Patient Scheduling System: A Concurrent Metatem Based ApproachIJERA Editor
The Problem of Patient Scheduling[6] is a major issue in a Medical Healthcare System[4]. In India, Healthcare
is an 80 billion dollar Industry and is growing at an average rate of 17% annually. However, quality healthcare
is still out of reach for many. Each year thousands of fatalities arise simply due to the fact that patient could not
be provided with proper medical facilities at the right time. A software agent may be a member of a Multi-Agent
System[2][5] (MAS) which is collectively performing a range of complex and intelligent tasks. Using
Concurrent Metatem[3], a Multi-Agent Language, we have attempted to model a patient scheduling
system[4][6] that can help hospitals collaborate among them through a Liaison-Agent, in order to provide
patients with the best care possible. Patients should no longer have to be turned down when hospitals are packed
to capacity; instead, they could simply be shifted to another hospital. Hospitals and even doctors are assigned to
patients after an automated process of matching patient needs with doctor expertise and hospital infrastructureleading
to reduced waiting-time while maximizing efficiency and potentially saving lives.

Heart failure is one of the most common types of chronic conditions among the elderly, which results into increased readmissions globally. This statistic is attributable to poor coordination and communication in the transition care settings. The various care settings include skilled nursing facilities, acute-care hospitals, long-standing care facilities and ambulatory stay (Naylor et al., 2017). This research paper is aimed at investigating the reason for poor continuity of care in transition care facilities. A detailed literature review was performed regarding the standard of care in such settings for patients with heart failure. The research methodologies used include case study methods, interviews, and administration of questionnaires. Probability and non-probability methods including stratified sampling and convenience sampling were used as the sampling methodologies. The necessary tools for data collection include questionnaires, interviews, schedules and observation techniques. In addition, an algorithm was created during this design phase. Thus, an insight into the design phase is sought and discussed herein.
Literature Review
Heart failure is a prolonged condition that has been highlighted as one of the top causes of public health complications in the world. The American Journal of Accountable care provides detailed information on heart failure as a public health problem. According to this journal, there are numerous causes of readmission of patients undergoing the transition care model (A Literature Review of Heart Failure Transitional Care Interventions, 2019). The journal highlights various issues, such as early discharge, poor management of underlying problems, poor coordination among key stakeholders and early discharge of patients as the major causes of readmission. All such issues can, however, be prevented and thus this research will discuss some of the coping methods. In addition, the US medical beneficiaries discuss the quality and safety in the transition care model (Teno et al. , 2018). Some of the beneficiaries state their experiences following being admitted into the transition care model. This article complements the previous article by adding real life case study analysis of patients who have been previously admitted to the transition care. Further, interviews of clinicians working in the transition care model are highlighted with an explanation of failure to conduct follow up visits of particular patients.
The American Journal of Public Health explores the affordability of the transition care and the quality of care that some patients can be able to afford. The article has explored the ...

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

Cosmetic shop management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
Buying new cosmetic products is difficult. It can even be scary for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to skin trouble. The information needed to alleviate this problem is on the back of each product, but it's thought to interpret those ingredient lists unless you have a background in chemistry.
Instead of buying and hoping for the best, we can use data science to help us predict which products may be good fits for us. It includes various function programs to do the above mentioned tasks.
Data file handling has been effectively used in the program.
The automated cosmetic shop management system should deal with the automation of general workflow and administration process of the shop. The main processes of the system focus on customer's request where the system is able to search the most appropriate products and deliver it to the customers. It should help the employees to quickly identify the list of cosmetic product that have reached the minimum quantity and also keep a track of expired date for each cosmetic product. It should help the employees to find the rack number in which the product is placed. It is also Faster and more efficient way.
