Efficiency of indoor environment for improving people's healtheSAT Journals
Abstract The main role of building is to provide shelter, security and healthy place for its occupants. As people spend most of their time in indoor space ( home, work, schools, etc.) therefore most of the hazards that affect human health is a result of poor indoor environment. Among many factors contribute to unhealthy indoor environment and affect people’ health are lack of maintenance, indoor air quality (IAQ) as a result of poor of ventilation, light, noise, etc. Nowadays, architects, and interior designers main objective is to promote comfort and healthy indoor building environment for its occupants through the design process of new building and provide proper design solutions for existing buildings. Therefore, the aim of this research is identify active factors related health that affect the indoor building environment. Strategies and recommendations to prevent or minimize hazards due to poor indoor environment will be also addressed. Keywords: sustainable, indoor air quality (IAQ), human health
Most of the pollutants, related to petroleum production, processing and use, have an intrinsic toxic potential which permits them to be included in the Hazardous Pollutants category. Their photochemical reaction products are more dangerous than the original pollutants and may affect biological systems at extremely low concentrations. The review of the previous NAAQS and inclusion of new parameters was undertaken by the CPCB in association with the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. The Proposal for revision in NAAQS was deliberated upon extensively and has been notified under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 on 16.11.2009 by the Ministry of Environment and Forests. The ministry has recently revised its National Ambient Air Quality Standards and has introduced more comprehensive monitoring strategies. It is also developing protocols for various parameters of ambient air as well as indoor air. It is also working on initiating comprehensive national ambient noise quality monitoring in urban areas.

Vapor Intrusion Developments and Concerns in CaliforniaMeyers Nave
Vapor Intrusion is the migration of chemical vapors from the subsurface into commercial and residential buildings. Vapors can migrate through soil and into buildings through cracks in foundations, basements, crawl spaces and sewers. In February 2020, the Department of Toxic Substances Control, the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board, and the State Water Resources Control Board issued in draft form Supplemental Guidance: Screening and Evaluating Vapor Intrusion which recommends a consistent approach when screening buildings for subsurface vapor risk to occupants and describes a framework for deciding when cleanup and/or mitigation is needed.
The regulated community expected regulators to finalize the long-awaited Guidance, but that may be delayed now that recent studies performed by the DTSC have emerged showing that the Supplemental Vapor Intrusion Guidance may have gone too far in its estimation of risk. The delay may provide some relief to site owners due to concerns that the attenuation factors prescribed in the Guidance were too conservative and would have made it impossible to achieve closure for sites with soil vapor contamination.

Are YOU working in a TOXIC OFFICE? A Re-Look into SICK BUILDING & OFFICE!Abdul Shukor
You are earning a salary, working very hard indeed but you may not realise that you are working in a TOXIC Office! Well, that goes the dream of living happily ever after. Anyone can be affected by SICK BUILDING SYNDROME (SBS), but office workers in modern buildings without opening windows and with mechanical ventilation or air conditioning are most at risk. This risk increases if they are employed in routine work that involves using display screen equipment. WOMEN appear to be more likely to develop the symptoms of SBS than men. However, this may be due to more women being employed in offices rather than a higher susceptibility.
Possible risk factors for SBS may include:
- poor ventilation
- low humidity
- high temperature or changes in temperature throughout the day
- airborne particles, such as dust, carpet fibres or fungal spores
- airborne chemical pollutants, such as those from - cleaning materials or furniture, or ozone produced by photocopiers and printers
- physical factors, such as electrostatic charges
- poor standards of cleanliness in the working environment
- poor lighting that causes glare or flicker on visual display units (VDUs)
- improper use of display screen equipment
- psychological factors, such as stress or low staff morale
There can be advantages in employers being pro-active about SBS and asking individual workers informally about any symptoms they may have.
If there are credible reports of symptoms, a survey should be arranged in a way that tries to avoid employee discussion, which can distort the findings.
A simple survey about SBS should cover the frequency of symptoms and whether they improved outside of the building.
