  1. Welcome! Today let’s take a brief look at how online courses work.
  2. Online courses can be structure by week, by topic, by unit, and so on, depending on the subject and per the instructor’s decision. The diagram you see is just one example. In this example, the course is structured by learning modules in a relatively linear way. When the students first enter the course, they view the introductory video about the course and about the instructor. Then they enter learning module 1. In the learning module, the students start with presentation of the content in this module, either in text or in video. Then they engage in learning activities including exercises, assignments, asynchronous discussions and hands on projects. And then there is a quiz or test to assess the learning outcome. After they finish this learning module, they move on to the next one. Throughout the course, there is a course project in which the students apply what they have learned in each module. They also have the opportunity to access resources from the internet. Finally, there is a final assessment and the final grade is a combination of a number of weighted factors that reflect their performance throughout the course.
