The History and Importance of Robots
The first known robot was created around 400 350 BC by the mathematician Archytas and was a
steam powered pigeon. Archytas constructed his bird out of wood and used steam to power the
movement of the robot. This bird was then suspended from a pivot bar at one point the bird managed
to fly as much as 200 meters before it ran out of steam. This is not only the first known robot. Robots
are machines capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically or controlled by
imputed source by impued source. Robots could be defined in many different ways but a robot isn t
just a human resembling machine it can be drone for example. A drone is simply a flying robot that

Robots now are able to do many task by either being program to do that specific task or learn it
themselves on their own. They don t need to be program to do a task. They are able to learn something
on there own thats new and do it very quickly. The ability to has a huge positive impact. Satyandra K
Gupta states that In a simplistic sense, the home robot marked can be divided into three categories(1)
robots helping wit dull and tedious household chores;(2) robots taking on new roles in homes
(e.g..,education, entertainment, companionship; and (3) robots in assisted living communities
(Parag.2). This shows that robots are able to educate kids or entertain them. Robots can show
companionship. Robots can be a part of school for kids because they can always be ready to teach and
are kid friendly. They are able to show facial expression so can show emotion and almost be life like.
To sum up robots are going to make life easier by just helping around the house or teaching a child
how to read. Robots will improve our health care service with the new advances in robotics. Rich
Hooper states that It is dangerous for humans to go out in space. keeping robots operating reliably in
space presents some unique challenges for engineers. Robots are a big part in NASA. For example the
robotic rover they use is very important for exploring areas in space where humans can t go (Parag.2).
This suggests that robotics are allowing man to explore like never before. It is

The Lord Of The Flies Zeitgeism Essay
A zeitgeist embodies the mood and spirit of a certain era in history. Although it isn t fully
understandable to the readers and the authors themselves, the set of ideals and beliefs that dominate
the actions taken by the members of society provide a simple basis of understanding of a time period.
Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, focuses on a post apocalyptic WWll world, in which a group of
British schoolboys is left stranded on a deserted island without any adult supervision. These innocent
children, in time, turn to savagery as the absence of order shifts them towards a more primitive
society. These turn of events, captured through the eyes of the adolescence, expresses Golding s
feelings of the evil nature of man and how even the purest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the boys within the novel except Simon begin to turn to savagery shortly after they realize that
they would much rather have fun and play games than get their priorities straight, such as getting off
the island. This can be supported by the fact that Simon, a holy figure, realizes the presence of a beast
on the island, and how in time, it is to be revealed through Simon s thoughts that maybe it s only us
(Golding 82). The concept of this novel serves as a counterpart to another novel called The Coral
Island, written during the late 1850 s, almost a century before the publication of the Lord of the Flies
(Text 2). Instead of boys turning to savagery, The Coral Island captures the essence of the innocence,
and how the nature of unlawfulness is ineffective to their behavior. The Lord of the Flies, in response
to its counterpart, captures the true meaning of a zeitgeist, and how it embodies the mood of certain
eras within

Mountain Climbing Suicide
Approximately 200 frozen corpses litter the face of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world
and one of the most frequently climbed. If anything, the gruesome sights are a testament to the fact
that despite the experience and knowledge of Sherpa guides and modern technology, mountain
climbing is at its heart still a dangerous and risky sport. Still more people are not killed but become
entangled in horrific situations, and rescuers must attempt to save them with high risk maneuvers. But
mountain climbing is a conscious decision on the part of the climber, and rescuers should not be held
accountable for the decisions of the climbers. Furthermore, rescuers frequently die in rescue missions.
Thus, climbers should not demand rescue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

who died in the Ama Dablam crash? It is not the duty of the pilots, the rangers, and other rescuers to

arise in the pursual of a sport like mountain climbing. Mountain climbing has changed, and in some
ways it is certainly safer, but it is still at its heart an extreme sport which can easily cause injury or
even mortality. Rangers, pilots, and other rescuers should not be expected to potentially sacrifice their
own lives for the sakes of climbers. When climbers go climbing, their lives should be the only ones
they are risking. In conclusion, climbers and others who partake in dangerous extreme sports should
not demand rescue services when they are the ones to have placed themselves in hazardous

Comparison Between Florey Building And Baker House
Research and Comparison between Florey Building and Baker House
James Stirling, who is famous for untraditional design and rejecting functionalism, designed Florey
Building of Oxford University in 1966. The building presented the idea of Brutalism, focused on the
form beauty of itself. Alvar Aalto, an architect sparkplugged the theory of humanism and
functionalism, designed Baker House of MIT in 1947. For him, functionality is an important way to
provide harmonious life for human being. These two buildings with different styles were both
designed as the student dormitory for university, however, some similarities still can be found. This
essay will compare the differences and similarities about relationship between form and surroundings,
function and circulation, and material expressing of them.
Relationship between Form and Surroundings
For Aalto, building is the intermediary between human life and natural environment. He always
arranges main part clearly at the beginning, and then according to the surrounding environment, some
moderate, natural elements would be applied. The site of Baker House was located along Charles
River. In order to avoid possible disturbing view onto the river, and for providing enough sunlight and
quiet environment for every room, a curving form was chosen. Rather than being rational and logical,
the unreasonable shape provides another aesthetic type of solution allowing communication with the
river. Moreover, the main entrance and the

Catch-22 Essay
Milo Minderbinder
In the novel, Catch 22 , many characters are described based on the perception of Yossarian, the main
character. Yossarian is a flight bombardier in World War II and the novel focuses on his interactions
and conflicts with the men and officers in his squadron, the medical staff, and the whores in Rome.
One of the men in the Twenty Seventh Air Force squadron is Milo Minderbinder. Milo is an
intelligent, but heartless, businessman that symbolizes the corporate business ethic.
The first time Milo meets Yossarian, he tries to make a deal with him. Milo wanted to make Yossarian
his business partner when he found out that Yossarian is entitled to all the fruit he desires. Yossarian

Milo even changed the slogans, Truth and Courage , on the airplanes to M M Enterprises.
When Snowden and Mudd died, Milo refused to take any responsibility for their deaths. Milo had an
indirect responsibility involving the death of Snowden. When Snowden was dying on the plane,
Yossarian tried to find syringes of morphine, but instead found a note stating, What s good for M M
Enterprises is good for the country. Milo was the main reason why Mudd died. On Mudd s first
mission, he was killed, because when his plane was in the German s range, Milo informed them and
the plane was destroyed. Yossarian blamed Milo for Mudd s death, but Milo replied by saying that he
has the right to benefit from the war and since the syndicate belongs to everyone, he can help
everyone profit as well.
Like many successful businessmen, Milo used his economic knowledge to gain political power. When
Milo went on a mission with Yossarian and Orr, we found out that Milo is the mayor of Palermo
because of his ability to make Palermo the third largest Scotch exporter in the world. When they
arrived in Palermo, the people crowded the streets just to see Milo. They even had huge banners with
Milo s picture on it. On the mission, we also found out that Milo has been elected mayor in several
other cities. Milo is gaining all of his power by simply being the middleman in all of the syndicate s

Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) Archaeologist Dr. George Schwarz was joined by
more than 45 volunteers from nearly a dozen organizations wading through dense vegetation and
sifting through Florida sand Feb. 18 20 in the hopes of finding more clues to a Navy aircraft crash that
happened more than seven decades ago. Osteen resident Rodney Thomas uncovered what appeared to
be a part from an aircraft more than three years ago when he was experimenting with a new metal
detector on his property. After finding dozens of pieces, he decided he wanted to learn about what
might have led to the crash, and perhaps the identity of the pilot. He contacted Scott Storz, a volunteer
at the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum (DNASM), in search of help understanding what he was
finding. One small, two inch square, slightly crumpled piece of metal gave the first significant clue

Judith Butler The Values Of Efficiency Summary
In Judith Butler s article The Values of Difficulty , in which she wrote in response to Denis Dutton s
article Language Crimes: A Lesson in How Not to Write, Courtesy of the Professoriate , she argues
that complex ideas require complex language to develop societal change and challenge common
sense. Butler shows how difficult language us useful, but I disagree with her overall claim. I do not
think that intricate wording is needed for a logical point to be made. Judith Butler wrote this article to
argue against the belief that scholarly writing is overcomplicated just to boast intelligence. Butler
begins by explaining how scholars, whose work topics focus on he humanities, are accused of bad
writing by the journal Philosophy and Literature. She believes that intellectuals in such fields should
explain how their work interplays in everyday life, but that these intellectuals should also create new
ways of looking at the world. A more socially just world would be possible if common sense were to
be challenged. Butler s definition of common sense is different than traditionally thought of. While
common sense may be defined as having good judgment in practical matters to most, she seems to
define it as an old way of thinking, stating that, Many quite nefarious ideologies pass for common
sense. For decades of American history, it was common sense in some quarters for white people to
own slaves and for women not to vote. (p.147) She thinks that for society to improve,

Figurative Language In Anne Bradstreet s To My Dear And...
Anne Bradstreet s poem, To My Dear and Loving Husband, is a small poem wherein she s revealing
her never ending love, devotion, and appreciation for her spouse. The fact that she was born around
the seventeenth century could mean it is puritan culture for women to remain reserved, regardless of
how they may truly feel; however, she makes it her obligation to make her husband aware of feelings,
whether positive or negative. She uses figurative language and declarative tone through imagery,
repetition, and paradoxes to send her message. To My Dear and Loving Husband can be interpreted in
many ways by many different people depending how it is initially read. This uncertainty allows the
poem to be interpreted on a surface level and on a deeper level.
One can sense the sincere meaning in poem on a literal level. A literal meaning of
Bradstreet s comes across when analyzed solely on the surface. It is initially assumed that she is
expressing her sincerest, undying love for husband. The poem opens with two if/then statements,
which sets up quite a logical tone. In the first line of her poem she states, If ever two were one, then
surely we (1). This line entertains the belief that she and her husband are one entity; what happens to
one, will happen to the other. Also, the speaker says that if two people were ever one person, then she
and her husband surely are. In the second, she says that if ever any man has been loved by his wife,
her husband has been. (2). As stated

Cultural Impact Of Globalization
Globalization is the process of international integration arising from the interchange of world views,
products, ideas and other aspects of culture. To better understand globalization and how it can impact
someone in different ways, I interviewed two people. The first person I interviewed is Jane Beamon.
Jane is the General Manager of Off Highway Business for Cummins Emission Solutions. Cummins
Inc is a global power leader that designs, manufactures, distributes and services diesel and natural gas
engines and engine related component products, including filtration, after treatment, turbochargers,
fuel systems, controls systems, air handling systems and electric power generation systems (2017).
Cummins is also a leader when it comes to globalization and how it can play a role in the success of a
company. When asked how globalization has impacted her community, Jane was very supportive of
globalization. What makes America great is the merging of different cultures and the many benefits
that are a direct result of that merging. When asked to clarify, Jane stated: the rise and popularity of
cultural festivals and events yearly is confirmation that Indianapolis has embraced other cultures.
When it comes to businesses that are present here, Indianapolis is a melting pot of franchises as well
as locally owned ventures. Take Ikea for instance; most people are not aware that it originated in
Sweden advised Jane. When it comes to affordable shopping and convenience, globalization

There was much to do, he said, before closing the door for the last time. No doubt, there was a
satisfied smile on Vyse s face as he gazed around the Wilton Gallery, in the knowledge that most of his
stoneware and animal groups had a small red sold label affixed to them. This had been, in that respect,
his best exhibition of all. At the end of the exhibition, all the work was sold, from a small bowl costing
one guinea to the largest piece costing £25. However, it is from a small notice in the magazine Arts
Review that one learns the 81 year old Charles Vyse, had exhibited some of his drawings and
paintings. Reverentially the reviewer writes that Charles Vyse is a potter celebrated as sculptor and
painter, too; and for this, his last exhibition (he is now in his 83rd year) he has produced a marvellous
show. Though I went on private view day, all was already over bar the shouting, all but a few pieces
sold, and most will have been taken away before this notice appears. It remains, therefore, only to
salute a great craftsman, and to turn our attention to the concurrent show of small figurative paintings.

Reflection Paper On Group Interaction
REFLECTION PAPER
Identified Experience
The group member I identified most with was Andrew in the first program. I identified with Andrew
because he stated he felt like an outsider at times. He felt that it was easier to talk with men than
women. However, in my case, I feel as though it is easier to talk with women than men in a group.
Overall, I feel hesitant to share because most of my group participation has been with practically
strangers. Like the video, I believe it is difficult to talk out loud about personal issues. Talking out
loud about issues that may cause anxiety has been a problem for me personally for many years.
However, after dialoguing with others within groups, I tend to become more comfortable talking and
opening up. In the first program, as the group members began to talk in the first segment, there was a
difference in the ability to relate to each other. I believe the dyads influenced open up and talking out
loud. Working in pairs facilitates member interaction because talking to one person seems less
threatening than addressing the entire group (p. 18). At the beginning of the sessions the group leaders
asked each member to look around the room to gain a feel of the group members. The purpose of
assessing the tone of the room will create an awareness of everyone in the room. Also, everyone
introduced themselves by saying their names.
During the early part of the group interactions, Andrew identified with James as feeling like an
outsider. I believe at this time was the beginning if Andrew doing the work. The group leader asked
Andrew can he relate to anyone else in the group. Nobody knows what it feels like to be the other
person. The only way to express how I feel would be to realize within discussion and verbalize my
feelings. We do not assume that we know what being an outsider means to Andrew or James, nor do
we know what feeling stupid is like for Jacqueline, so we ask all three of them to note and verbalize
when they become aware of these feelings (p. 17). Throughout this session each members were
encouraged to talk out loud to verbalized related issues. I believe the entire session is a process of
doing the work. As I watched the video of the first

Deming was one of the creators of the quality management approach that is followed by many present

He also introduced the manufacturing world to statistical process control techniques which was very
effectively used by the Japanese at that time, who used them with great success.

Depending on the success of the solution and the number of areas for improvement found, one may

Once a satisfied solution is found that will outweigh the cost of benefits achieved by repeating the Do

Gnosticism And Western Esotericism
Stephan A. Hoeller defined Gnosticism as a system of teachings based on gnosis: the knowledge of
transcendence arrived at by way of interior intuitive means . The Greek words gnosis is defined by the
Oxford Dictionary as a special knowledge (or wisdom) of spiritual mysteries . An individual or group
that possesses gnosis as a part of Gnosticism is labelled with the Greek word Gnostic. Historical
context indicates that Gnosticism was originally a Jewish esoteric (secret) spirituality that assumed a
Christian form after the coming of the Christian dispensation .
Gnosticism is a significant example of Western Esotericism. Esotericism (Greek root esōteros
meaning inner) is the inner gnosis held by a limited circle of people, whose aims are individual
salvation through gaining gnosis. Gnostic principles are explained through myths, just like esoteric
gnosis is. Gnosticism in Western Esotericism originated in the first century of the common era. ...

Divisions of household labour and child care, which have been argued to be markers of love and

an important study drawing on existing qualitative data from the National Survey of Families and
Households attained via interviews and surveys, to re examine the relationship between equality and
labour. Greenstein (1996) found that egalitarian women are less likely to do more housework than
their partners and are more likely to perceive the division of household labour as unjust. Supporting

are numerous misguided judgments about the infection. The ailment represents ninety percent of
infectious diseases in the United States from 1980 to 1998 with around 112,000 cases have been
accounted for from the forty nine states. (Geographic Distribution and Expansion of Human Lyme
Disease, 2015). The main express that has not reported a case governmentally is Montana. Since not
everybody reports the cases the check would probably be thirteen to fifteen times higher. One study
appraises the genuine tally of Lyme illness cases to be around one and a half to two million. Lyme
disease is a bacterial contamination brought on by a spirochete called the Borrelia burgdoferi. It was

The Current Rate Of Adoption
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY
An oft heard phrase in education has become both a directive and a duty for educators: We must meet
students where they are. This phrase refers to an obligation to meet students needs by matching
instructional methods to their levels and preferences. In this era of rapid technological innovation and
change, many students have embraced the use of Social Networking Sites (SNS) such as Facebook
and spend much of their time in its virtual spaces. Despite its popularity with college students, it is
unclear if university faculty educators feel that SNSs are appropriate places to go to meet their
students needs. This study seeks to explore this question by comparing faculty and students as to their

211). While many SNSs are in the early stages of development, the adoption of the concept has been
rapid. The study proposed here focuses specifically on the adoption of SNSs by students and faculty in
higher education.
Though SNSs have attained remarkable popularity, Facebook has become the most popular,
particularly among people of ages 17 to 25 (Melber, 2008). Recent studies indicate that the number of
older users is increasing rapidly (Kirkpatrick, 2009), but currently more than 90% of college students
have a Facebook account (Haywoode, 2010; Loveland, 2011). Thus, the substantial number of college
students using this technology has compelled many educators to wonder if there are potential benefits
for the use of Facebook to support education.
According to Santovex (2006), colleges and universities can use Facebook to engage students
academically and build relationships with faculty (p. 5). As retention has become a focal point for
many universities, several studies have suggested methods for universities to manage retention more
effectively. John N. Gardner, founder and senior fellow of the National Resource Center for The First
Year Experience and Students in Transitions, has visited many campuses, proposing to student affairs
professionals that involvement and sense of connectedness

Analysis of Anzia Yezierska s The Lost Beautifulness
Q1. The lost beautifulness by Anzia Yezierska In Anzia Yezierska s short story The lost beautifulness,
the protagonist Hanneh Hayyeh scrimps and saves to be able to paint her apartment white to make it
look respectable for her son Ady when he comes home from fighting World War I. Hayyeh wants
some kind of hope to cling to in her desperate immigrant s life. Although the dialect of the characters
is Russian Jewish and the setting is in an early 20th century urban environment, the idea of immigrant
aspirations and the conflict between rich and poor is a common theme in American literature. Initially,
people make fun of Hanneh because they think she is overly enamored with her wonderful son and
even her husband dislikes how much money she foolishly sinks into a property that is not her own.
But they are eventually touched by the care and concern she puts into her apartment to make it look
better. However, her cruel landlord, the only truly unlikeable character in the story, exploits Hanneh s
hard work and raises her rent, saying that in America that is how capitalism works ruthlessly. When he
raises the rent, Hanneh tries to give her landlord his comeuppance by destroying her handiwork, but in
the process she destroys her soul, effectively extinguishing her belief that everyone can make it in
America. The story is not judgmental of the wealthy Hanneh s employer Mrs. Preston is well aware of
the injustice of a world in which she eats strawberries and cream and Hanneh

The Reality of Evil Within Us In the novel Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, Marlow, the Lawyer,
the Doctor and the Accountant voyage down to Africa from London to assist the Europeans with their
mission to rule the Natives and discover ivory. This roots one to assume to being in a day dream where
it s amazing as if you were having the time of your life than all of a sudden hell drops and you die
resulting in a constant one s life. The complexity of inadequate regularity results in a fading reality, in
which deaths and complications arise and cause evil to take root within humans. The lack of deviation
in the novel Heart of Darkness results in a reality fading for Marlow. I felt often its mysterious
stillness watching me at my monkey tricks, just as it watches you fellows performing on your
respective tight ropes for what is it? Half a crown a tumble try to be civil, Marlow (Conrad 42).
Marlow is forgetting his old regularity in London because he is being taken over by Africa s constant
which is dark, and violent, and is referred to as the heart of darkness . As a result, Marlow becomes
attached to the heart of darkness, which can cause a dilemma when he returns to London because it
will constantly remind him of horrors that he witnessed. Marlow was aware that his gasp on reality
was weakening and thus, felt the need to remind himself to be civil. They would have been more

Democratic Government, Search For Truth, And Autonomy
Theoretical Perspective
There are three arguments for free speech which is Democratic Government, Search for Truth, and
Autonomy. According to Utm.org The first philosophical justification of free speech is that free speech
is essential for the proper functioning of a democratic government. An environment of open debate
and dialogue will give lawmakers the opportunity to critically examine possible public policies of
every variety. Democracy involves a wide spectrum of opinions about what is best for society, and it is
impossible for law makers to act on them all (Utm.org). This can also be applied to college campuses.
In order to be a place of higher education the same rules apply. Free Speech is also essential for the
proper functioning of a college or university. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Utm.org Imagine a primitive village that for centuries has gotten its water by hauling it
in buckets from a stream a mile away. Someone then comes up with the idea of diverting the stream to
bring it closer to the village, but the community elders silence him since the implementation of his
idea would disrupt the village s longstanding tradition. The elders might even see the practical benefit
of diverting the stream, but feel that doing so would change the daily rituals of the community, and
possibly create discord among the villagers. We could imagine similar scenarios where leaders
suppress new ideas about agricultural production, medicine, or building construction, all of which
would hinder any advance in scientific knowledge (Utm.org). By refusing other individuals voice of
opinions blocks the truth from society. In this sense, free speech is a requirement in the search for
truth both scientifically and

Difference Between Social And Social Psychology
Social Psychology and Multicultural Psychology Paper
i. Define social psychology.
Social psychology is the science that aims to determine how people think about, relate to, feel about,
and influence one another. Social psychology is a branch of study on social influence, how individuals
have an influence on one another. Social influence is noted to affect trivial behaviours, such as making
paper airplanes in class, as well as important behaviour, such as giving in to majority opinion over one
s judgement. It is an attempt to understand and lay down how thought, behaviour, feeling of a person
is affected by the actual, implied, imagined, presence of other people.

regulate their behaviour according to the reactions that they imagine people will give about the
behaviour. The implied presence is demonstrated by the people automatically obeying social artefacts,
such as streetlights, or other objects such as a black, may imply the presence of a person.
ii. Describe the primary research strategies used in social psychology and give an example of each.
There are three different types of primary research strategies that can be used with social psychology.
They are descriptive, experimental, and correlation research methods. The research methods differ in
the kind of hypothesis each investigates, and the issues it raise.

Grazing ecosystems support more herbivore biomass than any other terrestrial habitat (Sinclair 1975,
Detling 1988, McNaughton et al. 1989, 1991, Huntly 1991). A functional consequence of this disparity
in trophic structure emerges by comparing the relationship between aboveground production and
herbivore consumption in the Serengeti and Yellowstone ecosystems with that in other terrestrial
ecosystems [ILLUSTRATION FOR FIGURE 3 OMITTED]. For consumption measurements, we
included plant material removed by all important herbivores, both vertebrates and invertebrates. All
values were energy equivalents (kJ), converted from biomass measurements using standard conversion

Phillis Wheatley s On Being Brought From Africa To America
Phillis Wheatley was an African American woman who had a long journey of being a slave. The
majority of her poems are mainly about Christianity and slavery. For instance, On Being Brought from

great role in saving her race from their miserable fate of being enslaved. Phillis Wheatley was a
survivor and a leader. Her strong, determined personality naturally made her a role model that
everyone looked up to especially women of her race. Her specific poem reflects her personal
experience of being taken from Africa to be brought to America and how it affects her life as well as

Animal Testing And Why It Should Continue

Animal Testing and Why It Should Continue Jeremy Bentham once said, The question is not, Can they
reason? nor, Can they talk? but Can they suffer? Animal testing is becoming a conflict right now and I
believe that Animal testing should be stopped because it is cruel and inhuman, Alternative testing
technologies exist, the lack of reliability, and it is expensive. Another quote once said was by Martin
Luther King Jr stating Never, never be afraid to do what s right, especially if the well being of a
person or animal is at stake That quote is saying why do wrong when right can be done, especially
when people and animals are involved. Animals have feelings and enjoy life as much as humans do so
keeping them in captivity and testing drugs on them is cruel and inhuman. It is understandable that
animal testing is helpful, and we can t test drugs on humans, but when alternative testing options are
available there is no reason to keep animals in captivity and test drug, harm, and kill them. Center for

Operation and Performance of Reciprocating Engine
Operation and Performance of Reciprocating Engine As an accident investigator, understanding the
operation and performance of the reciprocating engine is essential. Reciprocating engine can be
branched into two groups, the 2 stroke and 4 stroke operating cycles. The 2 stroke reciprocating
engine completes a power cycle in only one crankshaft revolution and two strokes, compression and
power stroke. This is achieved when power and compression stroke happens simultaneously while the
piston is near the bottom of its travel. The 4 stroke reciprocating engine operates on the 4 stroke 5
event cycle, which are the intake, compression, power, exhaust stroke and ignition event. During the
intake stroke, the piston descends from top dead center (TDC) with the exhaust valve closed and the
intake valve open to the bottom dead center (BDC) of the cylinder. As the piston descends, a mixture
of air and fuel from the carburetor is drawn into the cylinder. After the intake valve closed, the piston
moves back toward TDC of the cylinder compressing the fuel air mixture. Just before the piston is
close to TDC, ignition takes place by a spark plug in gasoline engines which produces an electric
spark in the fuel air mixture. The piston move back down toward BDC resulted by the pressure from
the combustion of the compressed fuel air mixture. This causes the crankshaft to rotate, thus turning
the propeller. During the exhaust stroke, it expels the used fuel air mixture through the exhaust valve

I would pretend that it was my boyfriend doing it and then I would think of how I would feel if he did
it. If you would get upset about it, than 10 times out of 10 so would he.
There has to be trust in every important relationship, a relationship won t last if there are doubts on
either end. Always trust that your boyfriend is being honest with you and always be honest with him.
The next thing a long distance relationship needs is communication.
Good communication is a MUST! You and your boyfriend have to have open lines of communication.
If something is bothering one of you, you must tell the other how you are feeling. If you don t be open
the other will never know what you are thinking or if there is a problem. Unless of course you can
read minds.
Just kidding! There shouldn t be secrets kept from one another and if there are open communication
lines, it will avoid any types of problems.
Another aspect of communication that is important is expressing your feelings. If you are missing
your boyfriend a lot one day, tell him. It will make him feel good to know that you are thinking of him
and need him. By expressing your feelings, it will keep the relationship open and honest. And also add
a little excitement for the next time you get to see each

Reality of Sleep Paralysis Essay
The concept of sleep paralysis is not necessarily a concept, it is a reality. I have had this occur to me
numerous times for the better part of the past twenty years. What makes this a concept is why and how
it occurs. I do not believe it is not spoken of enough, and I sincerely believe that more people would
be interested in knowing what exactly this condition is.
The conditon known as sleep paralysis is defined as the momentary inability to move one s limbs,
trunk and head despite being fully conscious. This can happen while falling asleep (hypogogic sleep)
or when waking up (hypnopompic sleep). In my case, hypnopompic sleep is when I suufer this

I did in fact fall back to sleep, and I didn t mention it to anyone, because for all I knew, no one else

While researching the topic of sleep paralysis I learned that it is not a new kind of disorder, brought on
by cell phones, smog, or global warming it has been around for centuries. Sleep paralysis was once
attributed to evil presences, and it was even referred to as old hag in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet.
I learned that, in most cases, it is simply a sign that a person s body is not moving smoothly through
sleep (http://www.webmd.com/sleep disorders/sleep paralysis). Most cases refers to hypnogogic sleep,
whereas it happens to me when I am coming out of REM sleep.
There is not at this moment a known cure for sleep paralysis, yet there are symptoms that are
attributed to causing it. I found in Scientific American that factors include: going to sleep while lying
on the back, and also when feeling stressed or experiencing a disruption in normal sleep patterns (jet
la attributed g, caffeine, alcohol). I found on Stanford University s website that good sleep hygiene
may prevent sleep paralysis. These preventive measures include: getting enough sleep, reduction of
stress, exercise regularly (but not too close to bedtime), and also keep a regular sleep schedule

Films serve as a means of communication and are composed of millions of different elements that
form a narrative. Also, they use original techniques to deliver messages in ways that the creator wants
them to deliver. Usually, children s films contain a variety of implicit messages, because the language
should be simple, and in turn, it should contain fun elements. However, one of the best ways to create
stereotypes in culture is the use of children s movies, because people build their personality and
critical thinking in their first years of life. An example of this is the movie The Lion King, where the
characters are animals, but also each one plays a role of a human being within a society. This film
shows a patriarchal and sexist society, where men have all the power not only in government but also
within their own family; women, by contrast, have a secondary role always being focused on the
service of men and their children. It also has an implicit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lionesses are excellent hunting, but although they are stronger than lions, they are stripped of the
ability to govern. Nala, the little lioness that is shown as a stronger female with a firm character who
wins all fights against Simba, is the perfect example of why the lioness is essential to the survivor of
the pride. Moreover, from the beginning of the film, the wife of Mufasa, Sarabi is forgotten. She is
only mentioned a few times in order to demonstrate that their role is to serve, as Mufasa expressed
when he said to her, At dawn, he is your son . Even when Simba is thought to be dead, his mother is
not presented to show concern or sadness, which would be the natural reaction of a mother. In
addition, Sarabi is a lioness but she does not shine. Her color, like that of all females of the herd, is
dull yellow and her mission does not go beyond accompanying her husband and serving their

Improving service quality to meet customers standards is an ongoing part of doing business. In this
way, customers drive the market and the organization. At the same time that organizations act to
attract and satisfy customers, the customers themselves exercise ultimate influence. Their satisfaction
depends on both their expectations and their treatment. Through their choices, customers decide which
organizations survive and thrive, determine what goods and services are available, and shape how they
are provided. In addition to using their purchasing power, informed consumers can shape the
marketplace by communicating their preferences and standards to organizations that are poised to
listen and respond.
Contents of This Paper
For both service providers and consumers, making customer satisfaction a priority involves a
fundamental shift in thinking, organizing and acting. The customer satisfaction framework proposed in
this paper explores the potential of a customer satisfaction orientation as a means for improving the
goods and services, including those provided by the public sector, available to residents of tough
neighborhoods. This paper describes the ideas and research underlying the framework and potential
strategies for moving from concepts to action.

T.S. Eliot s View of the Human Condition in The Hollow Men...
T. S. Eliot was a man who strongly believed that poetry should represent life. He knew that life was
complex, so that is why his poetry was difficult to understand not only for students writing research
papers, but also for critics. He was the backbone of modernist poetry, who wrote mostly about
darkness, despair, and depression in life. He tried and succeeded to capture the torment of the world
during World War 1 and World War II (Shmoop T.S. Eliot ). Eliot s view of the human condition is
evident in The Hollow Men through the issues of fear, despair, and depression. The poem starts out
with a couplet. The first line talks about a man who is dead. In the second line it talks about giving a
penny to an old guy. Why does Eliot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He gives several examples of meaningless things such as wind in dry grass, and rats feet over broken
glass in a cellar. Why does the story sound so quiet? The story is quiet because Eliot wants to get the
point across that the Hollow Men truly are not significant in any way. Even when they talk amongst
themselves, they amount to nothing (Shmoop The Hollow Men Analysis ). The narrator goes on to say
that people who die see the Hollow Men before they pass onto death s other kingdom. What do the
dead people pass over? The dead people pass over the river Styx, which in greek mythology is the
pathway you must cross in order to go to Heaven or Hell (Shmoop The Hollow Men Analysis ). He
makes a point to say that the Hollow Men are not lost as violent souls. Why do the Hollow Men stay
around the area where people cross from life to the afterlife? The Hollow Men do not cross the river to
enter Heaven or Hell because they did not admit their mistakes in order to be sent to Hell, and they are
blind, so they cannot know where the river is and how to cross it (Shmoop The Hollow Men Analysis
). The narrator does not want to make eye contact with something in a dream. What does the narrator
not want to make eye contact with? The Hollow Men do not want to make eye contact with the people
that are in heaven because they do not want the people to know anything about them (Shmoop The
Hollow Men Analysis ). He proceeds to say there are voices in the wind that are

Forshadowing In The Teenager By Christina Baker Kline
Page 1 Angstman Christina Baker Kline uses the technique of foreshadowing in her writing. She uses
this tool when she introduces Molly s vocabulary list. Each of the words on the list foreshadows
certain events, characteristics of people or actions later in the book. This particular use of the
vocabulary list is very original. It is not a form of foreshadowing that is commonly used.
Foreshadowing is useful both to the writer and the reader. For example, the word harridan is a clear
representation of Mrs. Byrne. Harridan means a strict, bossy, or belligerent old women. Mrs. Byrne is
nothing if not bossy. She enjoys telling others what to do and profiting from their efforts. She is
extraordinarily strict, and it shows in the way she conducts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Vivian is the very definition of the word dowager. Vivian has a big, beautiful house and quite a sum of
money. Even though she has all those things Vivian has never let it go to her head, she has what she
needs and isn t concerned with flashy things. The scene which best describes the word enervating in
this book would have to be the snowstorm. She s cold, tired, and just been violated by someone she
trusted. Her energy is sapped. Trudging forward like a sleepwalker in the bitter cold, I make my way
down the driveway, then turn left and plod up the rutted dirt road to the falling down bridge. (Page 152
Christina Baker Kline). This is the point in the book where things could have ended very badly for
Vivian. This is the breaking point and it is at this point that she finds someone she can trust. Mr. Grote
s behavior could easily be describes as sycophantic. He starts out one of the few people who seem to
care about Dorothy, and then you start to notice that he is to attentive to her. You see him start to look
at her differently. He starts treating her differently. He is only nice to her to get what he wants. I know
Mr. Grote shouldn t be saying this. I am only ten years old. (Page 140 Christina Baker

Overview of Housing Microfinance
Housing Microfinance
Inadequate sanitation and housing threaten the lives and health of some 600 million urban dwellers
world wide. CGAP (Bonnie Brusky)
This research paper will concentrate on the innovation of housing microfinance. Housing
microfinance is helping to give loans to individuals that are suffering from poor infrastructure. This
type of microfinance will aid in increasing the level of living standards. This paper will analyze the
current organizations that deal with housing microfinance and it will implement new ways that it can
be implemented. Housing microfinance will be evaluated on the impact it has had to date and the
future implications of this innovation at a local, national, and international level.

The National Cooperative Housing Union of Kenya has made $4.19 million worth of 530 housing
loans (Rooftops Canada, Web). In a mere span of two years this organization has grown by 292
percent and members were able to save, in total, $3.1 (Rooftops Canada, Web).
The Homeless International organization in the UK has been increasing their investments because of
the loans and guarantees through Rooftops Canada and other affiliated organizations. The
organizations throughout Africa are able to grow their capacity through the collaborations with
Rooftops Canada. Capital and land are more accessible thanks to this organization. Rooftops Canada
has been the key to creating growth and prosperity in many of the organizations. For example, the
Kuyasa Fund has grown at a fast rate with 31,000 loans administered to poorer households (Rooftops
Canada, Web).
The second case study to study is the Bhavanashree housing microfinance in India, conducted by the
government of Kerala. Kerala is located in the south west region of India. India is another country
where housing lacks for most of the lower class, with the record high housing shortage rate for the
underprivileged class in India being 99.84% (P.J. 2010). Bhavanashree refers to the Kudumbashree
alleviation program. India is known for having a consistently growing population with a shortage of

The Trojan War
In the beginning of the semester, I believed that I knew most of the history of the Trojan War. I knew
that members of the Greek army hid inside of a wooden horse an attacked the Trojans inside of their
walls. Before taking this class, I thought the movie Troy was an accurate account of the war. I also had
no idea that the Gods had a large role in the Iliad. I was shocked to learn that the majority of the
history of the Trojan War involves the Gods. In my opinion, it seems very unbelievable. According to
homer, people believed in Zeus, Hades, Apollo, Poseidon, and the other Gods. Something I don t
understand is how people actually believe homers account of the Trojan War. The Iliad had so many
parts where the Gods were directly involved the war between the Trojans and the Greeks. Almost none
of Homers accounts of the Gods were mentioned in the movie because the history the Trojan War
wound sound less believable. The Iliad and the movie Troy have similar content. When I read the Iliad
and watched the movie, the movie sounds more believable then the Iliad. Toward the beginning of the
Iliad a conversation between Achilles, Tetis and Zeus was not mentioned the movie. Probably because
most people would automatically assume that this story doesn t sound real. Achilles talked to his
mother, Tetis, about how Agamemnon took his captive. Achilles asked his mother to ask Zeus if he
could make the Trojans win for a little while so the Greeks would realize that the need him. Tetis

Cordless Screwdrver Research Paper
How to drill a pilot hole with a cordless screwdriver
What estimate do boring apparatus I require?
The measure of boring apparatus you need will rely upon the extent of the screw you need to embed.
A decent general guideline is to choose a boring tool that is somewhat littler than the width of the
screw s string. Along these lines, the boring apparatus will evacuate enough material to avert part,
however, will leave enough for the screw s strings to nibble into when its determined in.
You can check the sizes by holding the boring tool before the screw, and watch that the screw s shank
is no thicker. Cordless screwdrivers all have hexagonal tosses, so guarantee you select a boring tool
with a hexagonal shank.

Personal Injury In Sports Essay
Personal Injuries That Can Happen At The Ballpark
Have you ever read the disclaimer on the back of your ticket to a baseball games? It says that there is a
chance that foul balls or bats can go into the stands during the game, and you assume the risk of injury
by purchasing a ticket to the baseball game. Does this mean that you are out of luck if you are injured
in a freak accident while enjoying a game? The law may actually be on your side in this situation.
There are only a few cases where the courts sided with the stadiums or sports teams in personal injury
cases, since fans often win their case or settle outside of court. For instance, there was a 2002 case
where a teenager was killed by a wild puck in a hockey game that went over the ... Show more content

Broken Bats
It s possible that a bat could shatter upon impact with the ball, causing pieces of wood to go flying into
the stands. While not as common as a foul ball, it poses a serious risk of injury to those attending the
game. Any injury suffered from a broken bat is worth pursuing legal action to compensate you for the
damages.
An incident in Boston caused a man to be struck by pieces of a broken bat while sitting along the foul
lines between home plate and 1st base. This incident has actually caused the ballpark to re evaluate
how far the safety nets extend, which is an indication that something could have been done to prevent
the injury from occurring. Currently, safety nets do not extend to the dugouts, which is an area prone
to projectiles at a high speed.
Injuries at the ballpark are not just limited to projectiles flying into the stadium, but can also be caused
by a slip and fall. If you are in need of help getting the compensation you deserve for a personal injury
case at the ballpark, don t assume you are out of luck because of that disclaimer on the ticket. Know

  • 2. The History and Importance of Robots The first known robot was created around 400 350 BC by the mathematician Archytas and was a steam powered pigeon. Archytas constructed his bird out of wood and used steam to power the movement of the robot. This bird was then suspended from a pivot bar at one point the bird managed to fly as much as 200 meters before it ran out of steam. This is not only the first known robot. Robots are machines capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically or controlled by imputed source by impued source. Satyandra K Gupta states that In a simplistic sense, the home robot marked can be divided into three categories(1) robots helping wit dull and tedious household chores;(2) robots taking on new roles in homes (e.g..,education, entertainment, companionship; and (3) robots in assisted living communities (Parag.2). Robots can be a part of school for kids because they can always be ready to teach and are kid friendly. They are able to show facial expression so can show emotion and almost be life like. To sum up robots are going to make life easier by just helping around the house or teaching a child how to read. Robots will improve our health care service with the new advances in robotics. Rich Hooper states that It is dangerous for humans to go out in space. keeping robots operating reliably in space presents some unique challenges for engineers. Robots are a big part in NASA. • 3. The Lord Of The Flies Zeitgeism Essay A zeitgeist embodies the mood and spirit of a certain era in history. Although it isn t fully understandable to the readers and the authors themselves, the set of ideals and beliefs that dominate the actions taken by the members of society provide a simple basis of understanding of a time period. Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, focuses on a post apocalyptic WWll world, in which a group of British schoolboys is left stranded on a deserted island without any adult supervision. These innocent children, in time, turn to savagery as the absence of order shifts them towards a more primitive society. These turn of events, captured through the eyes of the adolescence, expresses Golding s feelings of the evil nature of man and how even the purest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All the boys within the novel except Simon begin to turn to savagery shortly after they realize that they would much rather have fun and play games than get their priorities straight, such as getting off the island. This can be supported by the fact that Simon, a holy figure, realizes the presence of a beast on the island, and how in time, it is to be revealed through Simon s thoughts that maybe it s only us (Golding 82). The concept of this novel serves as a counterpart to another novel called The Coral Island, written during the late 1850 s, almost a century before the publication of the Lord of the Flies (Text 2). Instead of boys turning to savagery, The Coral Island captures the essence of the innocence, and how the nature of unlawfulness is ineffective to their behavior. The Lord of the Flies, in response to its counterpart, captures the true meaning of a zeitgeist, and how it embodies the mood of certain eras within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Still more people are not killed but become entangled in horrific situations, and rescuers must attempt to save them with high risk maneuvers. The building presented the idea of Brutalism, focused on the form beauty of itself. Alvar Aalto, an architect sparkplugged the theory of humanism and functionalism, designed Baker House of MIT in 1947. Relationship between Form and Surroundings For Aalto, building is the intermediary between human life and natural environment. He always arranges main part clearly at the beginning, and then according to the surrounding environment, some moderate, natural elements would be applied. The site of Baker House was located along Charles River. In order to avoid possible disturbing view onto the river, and for providing enough sunlight and quiet environment for every room, a curving form was chosen. Judith Butler The Values Of Efficiency Summary In Judith Butler s article The Values of Difficulty , in which she wrote in response to Denis Dutton s article Language Crimes: A Lesson in How Not to Write, Courtesy of the Professoriate , she argues that complex ideas require complex language to develop societal change and challenge common sense. Butler shows how difficult language us useful, but I disagree with her overall claim. I do not think that intricate wording is needed for a logical point to be made. Judith Butler wrote this article to argue against the belief that scholarly writing is overcomplicated just to boast intelligence. Butler begins by explaining how scholars, whose work topics focus on he humanities, are accused of bad writing by the journal Philosophy and Literature. She believes that intellectuals in such fields should explain how their work interplays in everyday life, but that these intellectuals should also create new ways of looking at the world. A more socially just world would be possible if common sense were to be challenged. Butler s definition of common sense is different than traditionally thought of. While common sense may be defined as having good judgment in practical matters to most, she seems to define it as an old way of thinking, stating that, Many quite nefarious ideologies pass for common sense. For decades of American history, it was common sense in some quarters for white people to own slaves and for women not to vote. (p.147) She thinks that for society to improve, ... Anne Bradstreet s poem, To My Dear and Loving Husband, is a small poem wherein she s revealing her never ending love, devotion, and appreciation for her spouse. The fact that she was born around the seventeenth century could mean it is puritan culture for women to remain reserved, regardless of how they may truly feel; however, she makes it her obligation to make her husband aware of feelings, whether positive or negative. She uses figurative language and declarative tone through imagery, repetition, and paradoxes to send her message. To My Dear and Loving Husband can be interpreted in many ways by many different people depending how it is initially read. This uncertainty allows the poem to be interpreted on a surface level and on a deeper level. One can sense the sincere meaning in poem on a literal level. A literal meaning of Bradstreet s comes across when analyzed solely on the surface. It is initially assumed that she is expressing her sincerest, undying love for husband. The poem opens with two if/then statements, which sets up quite a logical tone. In the first line of her poem she states, If ever two were one, then surely we (1). This line entertains the belief that she and her husband are one entity; what happens to one, will happen to the other. Also, the speaker says that if two people were ever one person, then she and her husband surely are. In the second, she says that if ever any man has been loved by his wife, her husband has been. The study proposed here focuses specifically on the adoption of SNSs by students and faculty in higher education. Though SNSs have attained remarkable popularity, Facebook has become the most popular, particularly among people of ages 17 to 25 (Melber, 2008). Recent studies indicate that the number of older users is increasing rapidly (Kirkpatrick, 2009), but currently more than 90% of college students have a Facebook account (Haywoode, 2010; Loveland, 2011). Thus, the substantial number of college students using this technology has compelled many educators to wonder if there are potential benefits for the use of Facebook to support education. Someone then comes up with the idea of diverting the stream to bring it closer to the village, but the community elders silence him since the implementation of his idea would disrupt the village s longstanding tradition. The elders might even see the practical benefit of diverting the stream, but feel that doing so would change the daily rituals of the community, and possibly create discord among the villagers. We could imagine similar scenarios where leaders suppress new ideas about agricultural production, medicine, or building construction, all of which would hinder any advance in scientific knowledge (Utm.org). • 34. Operation and Performance of Reciprocating Engine Operation and Performance of Reciprocating Engine As an accident investigator, understanding the operation and performance of the reciprocating engine is essential. Reciprocating engine can be branched into two groups, the 2 stroke and 4 stroke operating cycles. The 2 stroke reciprocating engine completes a power cycle in only one crankshaft revolution and two strokes, compression and power stroke. This is achieved when power and compression stroke happens simultaneously while the piston is near the bottom of its travel. The 4 stroke reciprocating engine operates on the 4 stroke 5 event cycle, which are the intake, compression, power, exhaust stroke and ignition event. During the intake stroke, the piston descends from top dead center (TDC) with the exhaust valve closed and the intake valve open to the bottom dead center (BDC) of the cylinder. As the piston descends, a mixture of air and fuel from the carburetor is drawn into the cylinder. After the intake valve closed, the piston moves back toward TDC of the cylinder compressing the fuel air mixture. Just before the piston is close to TDC, ignition takes place by a spark plug in gasoline engines which produces an electric spark in the fuel air mixture. The piston move back down toward BDC resulted by the pressure from the combustion of the compressed fuel air mixture. This causes the crankshaft to rotate, thus turning the propeller. During the exhaust stroke, it expels the used fuel air mixture through the exhaust valve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, one of the best ways to create stereotypes in culture is the use of children s movies, because people build their personality and critical thinking in their first years of life. He knew that life was complex, so that is why his poetry was difficult to understand not only for students writing research papers, but also for critics. He was the backbone of modernist poetry, who wrote mostly about darkness, despair, and depression in life. • 47. The Trojan War In the beginning of the semester, I believed that I knew most of the history of the Trojan War. I knew that members of the Greek army hid inside of a wooden horse an attacked the Trojans inside of their walls. Before taking this class, I thought the movie Troy was an accurate account of the war. I also had no idea that the Gods had a large role in the Iliad. I was shocked to learn that the majority of the history of the Trojan War involves the Gods. In my opinion, it seems very unbelievable. According to homer, people believed in Zeus, Hades, Apollo, Poseidon, and the other Gods. Something I don t understand is how people actually believe homers account of the Trojan War. The Iliad had so many parts where the Gods were directly involved the war between the Trojans and the Greeks. Almost none of Homers accounts of the Gods were mentioned in the movie because the history the Trojan War wound sound less believable. The Iliad and the movie Troy have similar content. When I read the Iliad and watched the movie, the movie sounds more believable then the Iliad. Toward the beginning of the Iliad a conversation between Achilles, Tetis and Zeus was not mentioned the movie. Probably because most people would automatically assume that this story doesn t sound real. Achilles talked to his mother, Tetis, about how Agamemnon took his captive. Achilles asked his mother to ask Zeus if he could make the Trojans win for a little while so the Greeks would realize that the need him. Tetis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
