Interview Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Interview Essays" can be both challenging and rewarding.
The difficulty lies in the multifaceted nature of the task, which requires a combination of
research, interview skills, and adept writing. Here's an overview of the challenges one might
encounter:
1. Research: Before conducting interviews, you need to thoroughly research the topic. This
involves understanding the subject matter, identifying key themes, and exploring
different perspectives. It's crucial to have a solid foundation to formulate insightful
questions during the interview process.
2. Interview Skills:The success of an interview essay depends on the quality of the
interviews themselves. Conducting interviews demands effective communication and
interpersonal skills. Formulating questions that elicit meaningful responses, actively
listening, and being adaptable to unexpected revelations are essential elements.
3. Transcription and Analysis:Once the interviews are completed, transcribing and
analyzing the gathered information becomes a time-consuming yet critical step. It
requires careful consideration of the responses, identifying patterns or unique insights,
and deciding which aspects are most relevant to include in the essay.
4. Organizing Information:Structuring the essay is another hurdle. Balancing the narrative
with quotes and insights from the interviews while maintaining a coherent flow is
challenging. Deciding on the most compelling order for presenting information requires
careful thought and planning.
5. Writing Style:Choosing an appropriate writing style for the essay can be tricky. It
should be engaging, informative, and reflective of the interviewees' voices. Striking the
right balance between providing context, analysis, and direct quotes requires a nuanced
approach.
6. Editing and Revisions:Like any essay, the process doesn't end with the first draft.
Revisions are necessary to refine the content, improve clarity, and ensure the essay meets
the intended purpose. This may involve multiple rounds of editing and feedback.
Despite these challenges, writing an interview essay offers a unique opportunity to explore
diverse perspectives and share personal narratives. It allows the writer to delve deep into the
subject matter and present it through the voices of those interviewed.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on this topic demands a combination of research, interview
skills, and effective writing. However, the insights gained and the stories shared can make the
effort highly rewarding. If you find yourself struggling, remember that assistance is available.

Response To Intervention Essay
RTI, is an acronym that has become commonly used in education after No Child Left
Behind was implemented, but what does that acronym mean? Brown Chidsey and
Steege quoted Dave Tilly, a school psychologist, as saying that RTI actually means
really terrific instruction! RTI is defined differently in different states. Some would
argue it is Response to Intervention, while others say that it means Response to
Instruction. Brown Chidsey and Steege state that whether you say intervention or
instruction, it does not matter; the importance is that teachers use scientific based
teaching that responds to students learning.
There are several benefits of RTI. First, according to the Nebraska RTI website,

According to the National Center on RTI website, the first step a district needs to
take to begin RTI is to access the needs of the district and gather information on RTI.
If RTI meets the needs of the district, then an action plan should be developed. The
district should form a leadership team that consists of an administrator, general
education teacher, special education teacher, and school psychologist. Next, a
universal screener should be adopted. This screener, for example, DIBELS, should be
administered three times a year. Also, professional development should be planned to
assist with the understanding of how RTI works and how the data will drive
instruction.
According to the ESU10 RTI website, RTI is an educational service delivery system
designed to provide effective instruction for all students using a comprehensive and
preventive problem solving approach. RTI is a three tiered method of instructional
delivery to meet the needs of most students. The three tiers consist of the core,
targeted, and intensive. The tiers represent instructional supports. Tier one is the
utilization of a researched based core instruction program. The district should
implement a universal screener to check for students learning. The goal is for districts
to achieve at least eighty percent of students meeting benchmark. If the student does
not meet benchmark, then the data is analyzed by

This is because he is accused for stealing a famous pair of shoes. He went to Camp

Are U.S. airport security regulations for flying too strict?
Since 9/11, (America s airport security has) largely been a line of defense ahead of a
departure gate to keep dangerous people and dangerous materials off a plane. By Bin
Laden s calculations, its cost $56 billion since 9/11. In one sense, it is worked as
planned: No planes have been blown up or hijacked for a decade (Airport Security
Statistics). This quote explains that since 9/11 the airport security s line of defense has
been successful so far in keeping the people and the dangerous materials off the
planes. While there are people who think that airport security is too strict, there are
others who think that it is just fine the way it is right now. They check every ... Show

Part of the directions the airport security say is to take off any metal you have and
place them in the bin. As the direct result of the September attacks, congress passed
the Aviation and Transportation Security Act, which created the T.S.A, an
organization with improving airport security by way more through screening
procedures for passengers and their baggage (Vegas). By paying more attention
during long lines, people can get through quickly and safely. Also, the travelers will
be happy that they got to their destination safely. Although it may seem as though the
rules and regulations are extremely strict, there are in fact just right for liquids.
Although the airport security could have chosen to ban all liquids because
flammable liquids like gasoline and alcohol could be smuggled aboard, that is
actually not the case. The T.S.A and our security partners conducted extensive
explosives testing since August 10, 2006 and determined that liquids, aerosols, and
gels; in limited quantities, are safe to bring aboard an aircraft (Montaldo). This quote
shows that the T.S.A is always improving the rules and maintaining the safe
environment. The T.S.A is not a cruel dictator who just imposes his rules, but they
take into consideration the comfort of the airline customers as well. As you can see
this is why airport security regulations for flying

An argument against this point is that an increase in the supply of labour will lead
to a decrease in labour shortages in certain jobs. Especially in jobs that local
people don t find attractive for example low pay jobs like cleaners. Not only will
people take low pay jobs but also skilled workers who have good qualifications will
benefit the UK economy and its services for example highly skilled jobs such as
doctors. My final judgement is that the initial argument is a weak one because the
migrant workers will benefit the UK economy by taking jobs that have a shortage
of labour that maybe would not get done otherwise. An advantage to the UK of
free movement of labour within the EU is that migrant workers who come to UK
could contribute to the positive multiplier effect. This is when an initial increase
in aggregate demand can have a greater impact on GDP. The workers will be
spending in the UK, boosting aggregate demand and GDP. The rise in GDP will
create more jobs as firms look to expand. An argument against this point is that
shortages may appear when migrants return home because overall they want to
help their families in their own country. Spending may be decreased because of
this which will decrease aggregate demand and GDP. Also, this could lead to a
difficulty in long term stability because if they can leave as easily as they can arrive
then there will be a shortage of
Use Of Social Media Platforms By Airlines

PACU Presentation Paper
Based on the results of the six studies that were analyzed, it can be established that
PACU visitation decreases stress and anxiety not only for patients and their families,
but also for nursing staff. All studies concluded that, although there are overall
concerns around visitation in the PACU, such as limited space, risk of infection, and
potential breach of confidentiality, the benefits of visitation outweigh the concerns.
All studies were in agreement, showing a drastic change in statistics among staff
after being introduced to a visitation policy, leading nurses to start incorporating
visitation in their plan of care for their patients. The results of this research can serve

Regarding what to expect when visiting the PACU. Preparation for how their loved
one may look, or how they may act will help them gain more understanding, and can
reduce the potential of a negative visitation experience. It is also important for the
patient and family to understand the regulations of visitation, including the time they
can visit, duration of visit, how often they can visit and how many people can visit.
This will help decrease the incidence of miscommunication between the patient, staff
and family. All visitation parameters should be discussed and determined by staff and
management in each facility. Explaining information regarding illness and making
the potential risks clear to both the family and patient is also essential to help control
the rate of infection in post op patients. Assisting family members with illness and
infections in reconsidering their visitation to the PACU might benefit both the family
member and the patient.
Also discussed earlier, as of 2017, less than 20% of hospitals in the United States
allow visitation in the PACU following surgery (Wendler et al., 2017). Establishing
PACU visitation should be discussed in all healthcare institutions as evidence has
demonstrated a positive outlook for the future. By implementing visitation,
institutions will gain the opportunity to provide quality health care, improve patient
Marketing Plan For A New Product
Whenever introducing a new product to a current market, an organization will need
to prepare for challenges they may face. For this reason, Kohler will need to be smart
with our promotional and advertising objectives when introducing Hygieia to the
commercial and residential markets. Our objectives will focus on building awareness,
creating interest, providing information, stimulating demand, and reinforcing the
brand. Working with our big box retailers, we will need to work closely with channel
members and our salesforce to help with the execution of our promotional objectives
to be effective (CITE1).
Kohler being a well known faucet manufacture and distributor helps us to connect
with current and new customers. Our first objective building awareness, is a vital
part to determine if the product will be expanded to more stores outside of our test
market. The first two months will be crucial, especially when we need to present to
The Home Depot and Lowes during our product line review, to show the current sales
performance. In this objective we will need to effectively reach out to our customers
though push promotional strategies to explain to our target customers the Hygieia
value.
Our second objective will need to focus on providing information that can assist with
customers in the search stage when deciding to purchase a faucet for their home or
business. With the Hygieia being such a unique product to the market place it will
have no competitors with the same dual soap
Archetypes Of Tennessee Williams
Tennessee Williams is one of the most influential dramatist and playwright in the
history of American theatre and literature. From his works like A Streetcar Named
Desire, to the works like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Williams exemplified his own
artistic and distinct style that still stands as the forefront of the classic American
Theatre (Bloom, 2000). Born and raised in the South, the plays of Williams used the
quirks and characters of the region. His plays portrayed his gift of beautiful
language, and his boldness to explore the untapped themes such as sexuality,
madness and addiction (Heintzelman Smith Howard, 2005). The issues and themes
that have been projected in his work are also the ones which he faced in his real life
(Heintzelman Smith Howard, 2005). The archetypes of Williams s plays emotionally
absent fathers, domineering southern matriarchs, and child look women engulfed
with madness, are themes which are taken from the life of his own family members
(Heintzelman Smith Howard, 2005). He was open about the fact that he was gay, and
about his substance abuse... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sexual preferences, the psychological makeups and the social milieus in A
Streetcar Named Desire throws light on the social make up in the American society,
which is confined with the belief of cultures, normalcy, and the social status of people
and things (www.independent.co.uk, 2011). Williams has used the characters in this
play to bring forward the side which is so common but still so untouched. The
acceptability of different preferences, and the self indoctrinated belief of desires and
needs of the protagonist in the play stands for the realism that lacks in how we see

The Happiest Time Of My Life
Pre School: This might have been the happiest time of my life. I was three years
old and everyone wanted to be my friend. Probably because I was the king of the
tire swing, but I like to think they also thought that I was a nice guy. But about the
tire swing, nobody could swing that thing hard enough to knock me off. I held on for
dear life and when all the kids got tired of spinning me around, I would get off and
try to act like I wasn t dizzy. Kindergarten: I was terrified on the first day of school
because I didn t know many of the people. But I knew that I had to start learning
things and that scared me. I was lucky enough to meet my best friend, a person that I
would be close with for the next 6 years. He was really opposite to me and it worked
really well to expand my view of people. 1st grade: First grade was hell. They decided
to split me and my best friend up into 2 different classes and in made me hate the
system. I had no idea why they would do something like that, it felt like torture. This
also set me up to hate my teacher. Over all I m sure she would have been great, and I
did learn a lot in her class, but I was determined to hold a grudge against her. This
year felt like it took forever to get over with. 2nd grade. I was back in the same class
with my best friend and it was great, we bonded a lot and really became best
friends. This also set me up to really like my teacher. She was amazing and taught
me alot and she was really pretty. I definitely had a
Analysis Of Paul Basden s A Congenial Way
Paul Basden begins his conversation on worship by seeking to define its meaning.
However, the reader will learn quickly that this task is easier said than done. Basden
examines worship through theological, biblical, and historical facets and ultimately
determines that Worship has never been practiced in all places by all people in one
way (18). In order to discuss the various types of worship in a congenial way, Basden
introduces six authors that are charged with defending and critique each other s
methods.
First, Paul Zahl defines and defends the practice of formal liturgical worship. For
Zahl, formal liturgical worship is first and foremost vertical worship. Formal liturgical
worship emphasizes structure over spontaneity. Zahl defines ... Show more content on

Best acknowledges that often in worship skirmishes what divides is not what is
important, namely truth, but instead what is temporal, namely music style. For Best,
the most effective way to worship is to rely upon the historical truth preserved in the
hymn book.
In Chapter 3, Joe Horness sets forth an argument for contemporary music driven
worship. This style of worship has an emphasis on relationship. Horness seeks to
set forth the true goal of contemporary worship. It is not just about the
instrumentation; instead it focuses on the communication. Horness takes the
reader personally through his journey from traditional worship to contemporary
worship, including his experience with Willow Creek Church. In his chapter,
Horness promotes an emphasis on connecting: connecting unbelievers with
believers and ultimately, connecting all people with God. He states, People of this
generation are longing to experience the genuine presence of God. And God is
longing to move in and among the hearts of his people. If we will learn to worship
from hearts that are fully engaged, God will be glorified and set free to move in us
and among us (104). Horness ends his chapter with some brief warnings for those
involved in the contemporary worship. He then encourages all worshipers to seek
above all to bring their best to God
International Terrorism And The Security Of The United...
This essay will explore the argument that international terrorism represents the
greatest threat to the security of the United Kingdom. It will begin by defining,
within the context of this essay, what is meant by the concepts of national security,
terrorism and international terrorism, and how international terrorismthreatens our
nation through both direct and indirect means. Throughout, it will identify a snapshot
of the current gamut of security threats to the United Kingdom and analyse, through
these threats, how international terrorism poses the most substantial menace to the
security of the United Kingdom. To the military minded individual, it could appear
that the notion of national security is limited to the threat posed by physically
violent or military action. However, as a matter of policy, the United Kingdom
defines national security as the security and well being of the United Kingdom as
a whole (REF). This includes the security of the nation s social security, economic
stability, power of diplomatic influence, and the physical security and well being of
the United Kingdom s population. Terrorist activity is no longer limited to direct
physical attacks on the state in order to achieve their cause and as will be explored
further in this essay, threats to national security are evolving into more indirect
methods in order to undermine the nation s well being. For way of definition, and
for the purpose of this article, terrorism can be described as the use

capture and imprison terrorists including; the Department of Homeland Security and
Guantanamo Bay Naval Station. Each of these Departments has one goal and that is
to protect America from terrorism. Taking this large goal on leaves many questions
for the government and the people of America; how far is too far? Are terrorist
entitled to human rights? These questions are discussed and disagreed with quite
frequently. We still do not have any answers for any of these questions. In the book

To try and prevent these acts from occurring governments worldwide have developed

2009, the United Nations met to discuss torture and other cruel treatments and

they established many laws, in Part One, Article Two it states, No exceptional
circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political
instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture
. Even though there is international law, torture is practiced in over 100 countries.
These countries often justify this doing by saying they need to extract confessions,
identify terrorists, and obtain intelligence critical to preventing attacks. The UN does
not tolerate any torture, no matter the circumstances. When Guantanamo Bay was

registered nurse, and will evaluate her practice in comparison to the current for a
registered nurse. The essay will read, an introduction of nurse Ellen Savage and
her work as a nurse in the 1900 s, the competency standards of the 19th century,
current competency standards and domains and lastly the comparison of Ellen

March of 1942, Savage was posted to board the Australian Hospital ship the

The Effects Of Climate Change On Oceans
In addition to carbon dioxide levels and surface temperatures, oceans also provide
scientists with evidence of climate change. Oceans play a major role in climate
change because they absorb almost all (90% from 1971 2010) of the energy
increase in the climate system ( Summary , 2013, p. 8). Scientists are confident that
ocean surface temperatures have increased since the beginning of industrialization (
Summary , 2013, p. 8) and that humans have contributed to this ocean warming (
Summary , 2013, p. 17). From 1971 2010, ocean surface temperatures have
increased approximately 0.4 0.5В°C and are projected to increase by 0.3 2.0В°C by
2100 ( Summary , 2013, p. 8). However, temperature is not the only effect of climate

The decrease in salinity lowers the density of the northern water, which in turn
reduces the difference in density between the northern and southern waters. As a
result, the force that equilibrates the northern and southern waters weakens. As
Arctic ice continues to melt, the AMOC could be further weakened within a
decade or two and may even shut down currents between northern Canada,
Greenland, and northern Europe (Rahmstorf et al. 478 479), The AMOC is likely
to weaken by 2050 and very likely to weaken by the end of the 21st century. While
the AMOC is unlikely to collapse or completely shut down in the 21st century, it is
not impossible that it will shut down any time after that ( Summary , 2013, p. 24).
The AMOC shows that weakening currents are possible and probable and could lead
to an increase in more extreme climates.
In addition to weakening global currents, climate change also causes sea levels to
rise. According to the IPCC Fifth Assessment report, sea levels have risen 0.19m
from 1901 2010 and have been increasing faster in the last 50 years than in the
previous 2000 years ( Summary , 2013, p. 11). Climate scientists are concerned about
rising sea levels because they have the potential to affect coastal sea levels. Research
shows that if the global average sea level increases by 20%, 70% of the world s
coastal sea levels could be affected ( Summary , 2013, p. 12). Projections show
The Goals Of An Effective Youth Ministry
Introduction
It is important in this present age to keep youth engaged in ministry. Furthermore, the
main essential goal of an effective youth ministry is that it should be ran with
structure, order, sound biblical and ecclesiastical conviction as it s foundation. The
purpose should be to engage the youth within the church as well. If youth do not feel
engaged, they are most likely to leave the church once they are no longer forced by
parents to attend. It is important for youth leaders to know and have a comprehensive
understanding that they are evangelists. Once youth leaders understand that it s not
about filling seats at church, it s about winning souls for the kingdom and getting the
youth active and engaged within ministry.

It is important that cohesive guidelines are set for the youth. Youth need structure in
order to to be successful. Below are the guidelines I created membership in the youth
ministry.
Membership:
The Greater Grace Youth Ministry members must:
1.) The members of the youth ministry must be committed to the spiritual growth of
the young people at the church.
2.) The members of the youth ministry must contribute regularly to the support of the
church and attend either Sunday school and/or Bible Study on a regular basis.
3.) The youth ministry shall consist a youth council. The youth council is a
governing body of youth and young adults that will work together and implement
plans for the youth department. The youth council shall consist of a president, vice
president, secretary, treasurer and other members as elected by the church body.
4.) The youth council shall be chosen annually or as directed by the Pastor.
Responsibilities:
The Greater Grace Youth Ministry members must:
1.) Attend, participate, and help organize all required meetings, programs and events.
a) Open and close all meetings with prayer.
b) Contribute to positive and open discussion at all meetings and programs.
2.) Help create a culture of responsibility and faithful service.

verbal communication (www.skillsyouneed.com). The interpersonal skill of listening
means more than just hearing. It means being purposeful in your intent to not only
hear and respond, but to understand what is being shared.
Example: An example of a well developed skill of listening would be to practice
active listening, which means to make eye contact, offer feedback, ask relevant
questions, repeat the message in a paraphrased form and/or give the speaker
nonverbal cues that you are interested and understanding.

Negotiation
Definition: There are many different definitions for negotiation, but in the context of
interpersonal skills, negotiation can be defined as the process of sharing and
receiving information with the purpose and intention of achieving a desired outcome.
The skill of listening is a prerequisite for successful negotiating.
Example: One of the most common examples of negotiating in business is during the
performance evaluation. The employee shares and listens with the purpose and intent
of gaining a raise. The employer shares and listens with the purpose and intent of
inspiring improved performance and dedication. Both sides must be successful
listeners in order to be successful negotiators.

Rhetorical Analysis of Cicero s Defense of Marcus Caelius...
Cicero believed that a good orator must do three things in his speech: earn the favor
of the audience, provide persuasive arguments, and move the audience with
emotional appeals. In his defense of Marcus Caelius Rufus one finds an excellent
example of Cicero s work and through close examination can glean some additional
information about what Cicero felt was needed in a good speech. With such scrutiny
it becomes readily apparent that each of the three objectives need not be attained
equally. Because while Cicero does attempt to gain the favor of his audience, provide
persuasive arguments, and presents the audience with powerful emotional appeals, he
spends a vast amount of time providing the jurywith proofs (persuasive arguments), a

However, his most obvious attempt to entertain his listeners is seen in his adoption
of various personas, such as the famous Caecus (Cicero, p.141 142), or Clodia s
younger brother (Cicero, p.143) and finally the strict and lenient fathers who
address Caelius directly (Cicero, p.143 144). The reasons why he resorts to these
methods are almost as evident as the methods themselves. In this trial there is little
to no physical evidence, the prosecution is based almost entirely on the testimony
of Clodia (as Cicero points out (Cicero, p.140 141)) and various other witnesses.
And despite the fact that Cicero claims Fact will be pitted against fact (Cicero,
p.137) the outcome of the case depends largely on which side the jury chooses to
believe; Cicero knows that if the jury is on his side then they will tend to value his
points over those of his opponents. In order to sway the jurors he flatters them and
attempts to entertain them, because if they feel good will towards him as he speaks
that could easily be transferred to his statements as well. This is extremely important
because much of his defense rests on attacks upon the

The Internship (2013)
Directed by: Shawn Levy
Starring: Owen Wilson Vince Vaughn
Brief Summary
The Internship is a film revolved around two businessmen who have hit the curb with
their recent downfall in their previous company. Billy McMahon (played by Vaughn)
finds a position as an intern at Google and signs his friend Nick Campbell (played by
Wilson) up. Most of the movie is set at the Google headquarters, and the two
businessmen are surrounded by youth (most of the age of around 21) and given
instructions of the course by Mr. Roger Chetty (played by Aasif Mandvi). The
interns are divided into groups, and whom, at the end of the course, only that group
will be given full time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The interviewers ask the businessmen; You re shrunken down to the size of nickels
and drop to the bottom of a blender. What do you do? Billy and Nick start to rant
about how it s impossible and going off topic, in the end Nick confessing that him
and Billy have been in the blender and given up, and how they have gotten
themselves out and here they are, and how if they really want to know what happens
when you take the guys out the blender, then they re hire them. The question was
probably asked by the interviewers to test the creative thinking of the two
businessmen.
When Lyle and Google are considering them he points out that the goal was to find
people with a different way of thinking, as well as the fact that they have more years
of sales and experience than the age of most of the interns. As well he labels the
businessmen as out of the box thinkers who turned being stuck in a blender into an
advantage. Another example of creative thinking that the team develops throughout
the movie is at the end when they persuade the pizza company to go Google, which
gets them the jobs at the end. Billy and Nick use their ways to talk to the business
School Environment And The Classroom Environment
Do you remember ever as a kid dreading going to school? Somedays you just really
didn t feel like it, but you had to anyway. Now, was it you didn t enjoy school
whatsoever, or was it really the environment they put you in at school? Well, kids
today are facing those exact same problems each day. It s time to get to the bottom
of it. The school environment children spend most of their day is a place many kids
across the nation do not enjoy. There are many flaws in today s school environment
that some may not realize. However, many schools tend to blame the kids by telling
them they simply do not wantto work and they are acting lazy. Even if there is a
small percentage of students where that really is the case, but for the other ninety
percent, that is completely false, and it is crucial we emphasize that. School
environment issues include children being allowed to have their cell phones in the
classroom which is decreases their work time, the excessive amount of homework
kids are being faced with which is causing some kids to cheat and giving them
anxiety and stress issues, and the debate about extending the school which would
push back students schedules causing the to get less sleep, but still having to wake
up just as early as before the in the morning. To begin, some students and teachers are
wishing to bring cell phones into the classroom more often. They are becoming rather
eager to have cell phones be the next step in transforming our classrooms into

affects alcohol consumption and how individual motivations toward alcohol
consumption based on self control affect regular drinking habits. In this study 61
drinkers were examined, 31 of which were females, to determine out of two social
situations what would be their alcoholconsumption. The participants were all around
the age of 24.5 and were 70.5% white. On average the participants had about 6

questionnaires and were told to refrain from drinking, eating, and doing any drugs
within 72 hours, besides nicotine. The results showed that those high in approach and

Symbolism In The Masque Of The Red Death
Nobody Escapes Death
Edgar Allan Poe s story, Masque of the Red Death , is about a selfish prince who
partied every day for about six months. He sealed off his castle against his people
and the horrible disease that had been spread throughout the kingdom which was the
Plague. He does not care about anyone other than himself. The hidden message in
Edgar Allen Poe s story is you can not avoid death no matter what.
In the story it illustrated examples of how Prince Prospero attempted to avoid death
and failed. For example in the beginning of the story there was a quote that said, All
these and security were within, without was Red Death . What Edgar Allan Poe
meant in this quote was that the Red Death was a horrible way to die. The people
inside the abbey had assumed they were protected because the disease was on the
outside. They were wrong because death was surrounding them, it was just getting
closer and closer to the inside of the abbey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Downsizing Strategies and Its Effects
Introduction
Companies that faced a decrease in sales, market share, or profits in the 1980s and
early 1990s began to realize that their human resources were expensive and
underutilized. To become more competitive, companies made strategic decision to
gradually lower their payroll numbers. (Anthony, Kacmar Perrewe al, 2002:434)
Downsizing has become a critical issue around the world. Downsizing and mass lay
offs are happening not only on US companies but also organizations in the entire
industrial world. The number of organizations and jobs affected by downsizing has
been staggering. In 1993, in an unending quest for lower costs, higher productivity,
and fatter profits, American firms announced 615,000 jobs cut, and all time ... Show

behavioural consequences for survivors. (Thornhill, Saunders, 1998:273 4)
Why do firm downsize?
A diversity of reasons can be lead to the decision of downsize. Organization and

Other reasons include reorganization, minimizing bureaucracy, eliminating excess,
business downturns, mergers, and acquisitions. (Makawatsukul Kleiner, 2003:52)

ATLANTA Critique
Ever heard of the show ATLANTA? Probably not, on the spectrum of things, it s a
show on FX that not many people knew about. And, if you did it was because
Donald Glover was the main star of it. Not to say that is the sole reason why people
appreciated and watched the show, but it is a part of the reason why.
Glover has not only played a part in COMMUNITY, but directed and produced the
show itself. He even has an alter ego, as you would call it, called Childish
Gambino who raps under the hip hop genre. Glover s life is in tip top shape as far
as his resume goes and he has had no issues with finding a job. He recently, this year
in fact, announced his new show ATLANTA. First thoughts were confusing; the
trailers did not tell much and maybe that was for the best thinking back on it now.
The first episode premiered September 6th on FX at 9PM and from the beginning of
the first episode I knew this show was going to be something special. The show s
minimalistic style, mixed with the rap songs in the background make this show what
it is. And, that is a minimalistic masterpiece. The show adapted the ... Show more

Social Commentary In A Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol is a beautifully crafted novel which symbolizes life in the
Victorian Era where class discrimination was a common practice and nearly no one
would speak up against it except Charles Dickens. Social commentary is a skill
used by artist of every deviation to making remarks on sundry issues society faces
and in Dickens case, he uses his words to lessen the social gap between the poor and
rich. Dickens leads the reader into his novel immediately by explaining that Ebenezer
Scroogeis a harsh miser whose only friend and partner, Jacob Marley, died 7 years
ago on Christmas Eve. After he spends his day at the counting house, Scrooge
returns to his house and as he lies in bed, Marly burst into his chambers wearing,
the chain I forged in life, (Dickens 16), bestowing upon him a prophecy: 3 Spirits
will haunt him, however his consent is paramount if wants a proper afterlife. After
each spirit, Scrooge learns about how his misanthropic actions adversely affects
others until he learns to honor the Spirit of Christmas year round. Dickens used social
commentary to unearth the spirit of Christmas amongst all by using social
commentary to express that one s class should not have an effect on how someone is
treated.
During the Victorian era, Dickens family was part of England s lower class who only
had scraps of food, few possessions, and had to work from dawn to dusk to survive
the cruelty of the world. His family, amongst many others of the lower class, lived in a

Ping Sweeps and Port Scans

definite cause for concern. Below, this study explains exactly what ping sweeps and
port scans are, how they might affect an organization, and why they are so concerning.
What are ping sweeps? What are port scans? Ping sweeps and port scans are two
ways that hackers gather information about a potential target. According to an

For example, Conklin (2010) explains a 2003 attack known as the Slammer Worm:
It exploited a buffer overflow vulnerability in computers running Microsoft s SQL
server or Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine... Within the first 24 hours of
release, the worm had infected at least 120,000 hosts and caused network outages
and the disruption of airline flights, elections, and ATMs. At its peak, Slammer
infected hosts were generating a reported 1TB of worm related traffic every
second... The problems it caused were a result of the massively overloaded
networks, which could not sustain the traffic being generated by thousands of
infected hosts. The worm sent its single packet to a specific UDP port, 1434 (p.6).
By performing a ping sweep to see which computers on a network are live followed
by a port scan to see which ports are open and what services are running on those
machines, it would be very possible for a hacker or group of hackers to pull off an
attack similar to the Slammer Worm. In fact, once a hacker has a way into the system
and knows which vulnerabilities to exploit, there s really no limit to the damage
potential caused by the

Puting choice into the hands of the consumer gives them agency over the events of

One of the ways that The Walking Dead video game makes its choices meaningful
is by giving the main character Lee Everett the responsibility of being a parental

The walking dead video game is an exemplary example of how introducing choice

making the player a parental figure ads depth to the story that you don t get from

Marketing Strategy At The North American Market
Strategy
As we close Q3, we move forward with our plan to expand our offices in the North
American market. Our next office expansion will take place in Chicago. The market
potential in Chicago, for the workhorse computer, is relatively high; in comparison to
our initial other locations such as Los Angeles and Toronto. According to market
research, these markets have great potential to effectively meet customer needs. The
pricing strategy used for Workhorse, which is our first priority product in the
market, is to provide a technologically advanced computer at an affordable price. In
addition, to a good retail price, we will offer a $100 rebate as an incentive to
purchase a Pentabytes workhorse computer.
Brand Design
Our main objective is to increase market potential by designing brands attractive to
Workhorse, Traveler and Innovator segments. The executive team analyzed the
customer needs and use pattern to determine the design. Based on the research, our
firm decided to add a new segment that targets a different clientele. The strategy to
design a desktop computer for our Workhorse customers was based on their top three
preferences of having a computer easy to use, but still does a wide variety of tasks at
a special price deal. We introduced a laptop for our Traveler segment. The idea of the
design is to provide a portable computer that features office applications. We realized
how important is to accommodate their portability concern. Our latest addition is a

Personal Experiences And Personal Strengths
What are your strengths? My strengths include working in a fast paced
environment. I am also skilled in working with both large and small teams. I am
also skilled in solving challenging problems that are involved at work. I am skilled
in quick research as well. How do you cope with stress? I usually stick to little
activities when dealing with stress. One includes working out at the gym,
primarily in weight lifting. I have also started taking yoga. What are your
computer skills? 1 10 7. I say seven because there are programs that I am not
familiar with. I am proficient, however, in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and some
in Excel. How quickly do you adapt to change? Example? I adapt fairly quickly to
change. When I was working at S Mart Foods, we had to rearrange the shelves in
each aisle to bring in new product and it made it harder to find items. After hours I
spent time learning the location of basic items in each aisle. If you weren t going
to go into law, what would you be doing? Originally, I was going to learn how to be
an engineer in water technology. I liked learning how to be a paralegal because I
was skilled at doing research. What is most important to you? Money or your
career? And why? My career would be the most important. I say this because I am
not a materialistic person and do not like to let money take over my whole life. I
believe in putting my career first and the money will follow after it. What are your
hobbies? I like to lift weights

Omelas By Le Guin
Omelas is a utopian story where people do have a happy life. The narrator initiate
the story referring to a day of celebration in the city; the people are celebrating the
summer festival. Everything seems running in harmony. According to Le Guin
Children dodged in and out, their high calls rising like the swallows crossing
flights, over the music and the singing (1), the children are happy being just kids,
riding horses and racing about the fields. The day is bright and clear, playing
different types of music. The point often overlooked is the fact that the idea of
happiness seems perfect, specially the happiness of the entire city, which sounded
suspecting to me. However, the author insists that people of that city lead complex

Similarities Between The Ku Klux Klan

A Cult is a new religious movement that has a limited number of followers and whose
practices may or may not be mysterious and possible unsavoury. The Ku Klux Klan
commonly known as the KKK is a cult that refers to three movements at various times
in history in the United States of America. The KKK fought for white supremacy,
white nationalism, anti immigration and anti Catholicism. Religion is a method of

Religion can answer the worlds most asked questions. Religion shows how the
world is made, how mankind came to existence. It gives meaning to an individual s
life. Cults are smaller in nature, generally have less followers with more extreme
beliefs.
A common thought of cults is that the members have crazy beliefs. This is not
always true, cults can vary from beliefs however the cult I am researching the kkk
do in fact have crazy, unhuman beliefs. The most well known cults generally have
mysterious and crazy beliefs. This is because they re discussed in the media for the
extreme beliefs they endure. This results in the general public believing all cults are
bad.
Similarities between the Christian religion and the Ku Klux Klan is they both believe
in change. The Ku Klux Klan believes it can change the world by making white
people more powerful than black people. They tried to persuade the people of
Earth to believe that what they were doing was the right thing to do. They
persuaded people by using force and extreme violence. This means that they killed
people, mainly black people to get their point across. The Christian Religion
believed it could change the hearts of the individual person. However, they did not
do this by using extreme violence but instead by using Jesus teachings and the
Holy Bible. Both the Christian religion and the Ku Klux Klan have hierarchies.
The leader was called the Pope or for the KKK it was the Grand Wizard. Then for
the Catholics it is the Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops whereas for the KKK it is

Sports In The 1920s Essay
The 1920s has been called the Golden Age of American Sports. It also has been
called the Age of the Spectator. The United States had a strong economy for most
of that decade. Many workers had more leisure time. New and bigger stadiums and
gymnasiums were built. The introduction of radio made it easier for fans to keep up
with their favorite teams. Newspapers increased their coverage of sports.
Improvements in roads made it possible for fans to travel to athletic events in distant
cities. For the first time, large numbers of Americans began to pay money to watch
other people compete in athletic contests.
Baseball was the national pastime in the 1920s. More people went to baseball games,
more people followed baseball, and more people played ... Show more content on

Notre Dame, coached by Knute Rockne, became the most famous college football
team. Illinois star Harold Red Grange became a household name. The best college
teams could compete in bowl games, such as the famous Rose Bowl, held in
California.
Boxing was popular too. Heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey was almost as
famous as Ruth. Horse racing, golf, and tennis all had their fans. College basketball
was still a young sport. Professional football and basketball were minor sports.
North Carolina followed most of these trends, although professional boxing and horse
racing events were not widely held in the state because of their association with
gambling.
Baseball was very popular in North Carolina in the 1920s. Many communities had
professional minor league teams. The piedmont league had teams in such cities as
Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, High Point, and Winston. Charlotte had a team in the
South Atlantic League. Many teams players came from the local communities. The
best players could advance to the major leagues. Rivalries could be fierce. Games
between nearby cities, like Raleigh and Durham, could attract large crowds on
weekends or holidays such as the Fourth of July. Most colleges and high schools had
teams. In fact, college baseball was more popular than college basketball during the
The Legal Drinking Age Should Be Removed
The legal drinking age should be removed because it teaches safe drinking, it
removes the taboo around it, and history proves it does not work at 18. Conor
Lewis 12 4 15 English 3rd Alcohol. The source of curiosity among young people
everywhere. People everywhere, college students, and even some high school
students enjoy it. There s no doubt this nation enjoys alcohol but what about the
people who can t taste it yet? What about those who are considered adults in every
way and permitted to do anything except drink alcohol? Is it right for a government
to tell someone that they are fully responsible for themselves but they still don t give
them the full privileges of growing up? What about those countries who do not have a

The prohibition proved that Americans will do whatever they can to get ahold of
this magical substance no matter the laws or restrictions. So obviously doing away
with alcohol will not stop its manufacturing or its use and if anything it will
increase its use. But what if we just make it legal for some and not others? After
the prohibition the drinking age was raised back up to 21. The age stayed there
until the vietnam war came around. Then, states began to lower their personal
drinking age to 18 (Tietjan why 21) justifying themselves with the argument If a
man can die for his nation can he at least enjoy a beer? (Tietjan Why 21 ) We see
the states begin to all lower their drinking age, but this too proved not a good idea.
Binge drinking and drunk driving was rampant due to teenagers that just earned
their drinking rights and were not able to handle it. Teenagers had no clue how to
safely drink and it was dangerous for everybody. Mothers against drunk driving
(MADD) formed after a Candy Lightner had her daughter ran over by a previously
convicted drunk driver. Protesting began, they were effective, and the drinking age
was raised to 21 (The Study of Drunk Driving Laws in the US). While many argue
that modern seat belt laws and increase of a crackdown on drunk driving has
decreased the fatalities, (Danilloff in 18 vs. 21) the amount of drunk driving has
decreased such a large percentage that it is not likely. Soon president reagan issued a
Jackson J. Spielvogel s Western Civilization
The region between the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers was home to an original
civilization, Mesopotamia. The people of Mesopotamia knew of few cultures other
than themselves and had no basis for what their lives should be and therefore
developed their own way of life. They developed their own religion and laws to
follow, they were building civilization. In this secondary source, Western Civilization
by Jackson J. Spielvogel, it is declared that a spiritual worldview was of fundamental
importance they valued their religion above all else (Spielvogel, 10). It is obvious
that a physical environment influenced Mesopotamian culture but not nearly as much
as their spiritual environment that was under the control of the physical.

The Wedding Of Ursula Essay
When telling the story of Ursula s childhood, Lawrence tells us early on that,
Ursula was the one for realities. (259). From this point it is apparent that her story
is going to be different. While she relies on the hard realities of life and is very
caught up in the things outside of her, her mind body conscious self is just as
active as Tom or Anna s. In fact, it may be even stronger for her because she seems
to be more aware of it: She became aware of herself, that she was a separate entity in
the midst of an unseparated obscurity, that she must go somewhere, she must become
something. (Lawrence 281). She has her first experience with love at an early age,
when she encounters Anton Skrebensky. At one point during their courtship, Anton
comes to the wedding of Ursula s uncle, Fred, and Ursula has a very distinct
experience similar to the one her mother Anna had in the cornfield. At the touch of

It was a glaucous, intertwining, delicious flux and contest in flux...She turned, and
saw a great white moon looking at her over the hill. And her breast opened to it, she
was cleaved like a transparent jewel to its light. She stood filled with the full
moon, offering herself. Her two breasts opened to make way for it, her body
opened wide like a quivering anemone, a soft, dilated invitation touched by the
moon. She wanted the moon to fill in to her, she wanted more, more communion
with the moon, consummation. (Lawrence 316 17). In this passage, Ursula s will
is dancing in a way with Skrebensky s, but it is always separate. The moon has
some deeper significance for her, as it did for Anna, as it pierces the darkness,
entering and becoming her
Examples Of Heroism In The Book Of Exodus
The Book of Exodus is the story of the Israelite s escape from slavery through the
leadership of Moses and power of God. Moses demonstrates numerous heroic
characteristics throughout the Book of Exodus as he leads the Israelites to freedom.
As defined by Professor of Classics at Rutgers University Lowell Edmunds, a herois a
man, often of divine ancestry, [and] favored by the gods. In addition, Edmunds
continues the definition of a hero as one who is endowed with great courage and
strength...especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life. Under this
definition, we can draw significant parallels between Mosess life and a traditional
hero s life. God chooses and favors Moses; he is born into a divine line, and also
granted great powers to aid him in his journey. In addition, he uses his God given
strength to lead and protect the Israelites. Lastly, Moses sacrifices his life to fulfill
his heroic responsibility, despite his original hesitations. These aspects of Moses
life and traits reflect significantly on his persona and prove his heroism. From birth,
Moses heroic destiny is clear. He is born into a family lineage of divine power and
knowledge, and then Pharaoh raises him. Although his biological mother put [him]
in [a basket] among the reeds at the river s brink, he is well aware of his roots
throughout his early life. This knowledge significantly affects his actions, which
reflect his inherent heroism. Before God confronts Moses, he sees an
Phil Rudd Case Study
Back in April, Phil Rudd plead guilty to threatening to kill, and possession of
cannabis and methamphetamine in a New Zealand court. The former AC/DC
drummer faced seven years in prison, but he was just sentenced to eight months of
home detention. Rudd admitted that he threatened to kill a former employee, but
he stated he was under the influence of drugs when he called and threatened the
victim. At one point, Rudd was also charged with murder for hire, but the charge
was dropped due to lack of evidence. According to reports, Rudd initially hired
someone to kill his former employee and he offered the person large amounts of
cash, a house, and a vehicle in order to have the victim murdered. Rudd s days with
AC/DC are presumably over, and
An Analysis Of Drop By Drop By Vivian Vande Velde
It is a known fact that drinking and driving is an extremely unintelligent decision.
Not only does this affect someone s life by making the decision to be intoxicated
behind the wheel, but also this can completely change a stranger s life. Although
the mind is being affected while under the influence, it still has shown for a long
period of time afterward. This concept is seen in the short story, Drop by Drop .
The main character, Brenda, is in confusion throughout the story about her decisions
to drive while intoxicated. It takes the presence of a ghost and going through a
state of denial for Brenda to come to realization with what she has done. In Vivian
Vande Velde s Drop by Drop , Vivian uses Brenda as a prime example of mentality
from being intoxicated.
Brenda s mind is making her see things that are not exactly real. Throughout
moving into a new house Brenda is noticing several mischievous actions, such as
clothes falling to the floor, hearing a toddler s bike with no sight of kids anywhere,
and even to the point of seeing a ghost. Little does Brenda know, these events are
taking place because of her decision to drink and drive, which she has little to no
memory of. This is beginning to change the way she sleeps, when she notices
something in her bed and runs to her parents for help, I was angry, even though he
was right. I don t know, I said. It doesn t have to be a rat. I couldn t see what it was. I
only felt it (Vande Velde 25). Brenda is fully

Interview Essays

  • 1. Interview Essays Crafting an essay on the subject of "Interview Essays" can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies in the multifaceted nature of the task, which requires a combination of research, interview skills, and adept writing. Here's an overview of the challenges one might encounter: 1. Research: Before conducting interviews, you need to thoroughly research the topic. This involves understanding the subject matter, identifying key themes, and exploring different perspectives. It's crucial to have a solid foundation to formulate insightful questions during the interview process. 2. Interview Skills:The success of an interview essay depends on the quality of the interviews themselves. Conducting interviews demands effective communication and interpersonal skills. Formulating questions that elicit meaningful responses, actively listening, and being adaptable to unexpected revelations are essential elements. 3. Transcription and Analysis:Once the interviews are completed, transcribing and analyzing the gathered information becomes a time-consuming yet critical step. It requires careful consideration of the responses, identifying patterns or unique insights, and deciding which aspects are most relevant to include in the essay. 4. Organizing Information:Structuring the essay is another hurdle. Balancing the narrative with quotes and insights from the interviews while maintaining a coherent flow is challenging. Deciding on the most compelling order for presenting information requires careful thought and planning. 5. Writing Style:Choosing an appropriate writing style for the essay can be tricky. It should be engaging, informative, and reflective of the interviewees' voices. Striking the right balance between providing context, analysis, and direct quotes requires a nuanced approach. 6. Editing and Revisions:Like any essay, the process doesn't end with the first draft. Revisions are necessary to refine the content, improve clarity, and ensure the essay meets the intended purpose. This may involve multiple rounds of editing and feedback. Despite these challenges, writing an interview essay offers a unique opportunity to explore diverse perspectives and share personal narratives. It allows the writer to delve deep into the subject matter and present it through the voices of those interviewed. In conclusion, tackling an essay on this topic demands a combination of research, interview skills, and effective writing. However, the insights gained and the stories shared can make the effort highly rewarding. If you find yourself struggling, remember that assistance is available. • 2. Response To Intervention Essay RTI, is an acronym that has become commonly used in education after No Child Left Behind was implemented, but what does that acronym mean? Brown Chidsey and Steege quoted Dave Tilly, a school psychologist, as saying that RTI actually means really terrific instruction! RTI is defined differently in different states. Some would argue it is Response to Intervention, while others say that it means Response to Instruction. Brown Chidsey and Steege state that whether you say intervention or instruction, it does not matter; the importance is that teachers use scientific based teaching that responds to students learning. There are several benefits of RTI. First, according to the Nebraska RTI website, research states that struggling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the National Center on RTI website, the first step a district needs to take to begin RTI is to access the needs of the district and gather information on RTI. If RTI meets the needs of the district, then an action plan should be developed. The district should form a leadership team that consists of an administrator, general education teacher, special education teacher, and school psychologist. Next, a universal screener should be adopted. This screener, for example, DIBELS, should be administered three times a year. Also, professional development should be planned to assist with the understanding of how RTI works and how the data will drive instruction. According to the ESU10 RTI website, RTI is an educational service delivery system designed to provide effective instruction for all students using a comprehensive and preventive problem solving approach. RTI is a three tiered method of instructional delivery to meet the needs of most students. The three tiers consist of the core, targeted, and intensive. The tiers represent instructional supports. Tier one is the utilization of a researched based core instruction program. The district should implement a universal screener to check for students learning. The goal is for districts to achieve at least eighty percent of students meeting benchmark. If the student does not meet benchmark, then the data is analyzed by

Especially in jobs that local people don t find attractive for example low pay jobs like cleaners. Not only will people take low pay jobs but also skilled workers who have good qualifications will benefit the UK economy and its services for example highly skilled jobs such as doctors. My final judgement is that the initial argument is a weak one because the migrant workers will benefit the UK economy by taking jobs that have a shortage of labour that maybe would not get done otherwise. An advantage to the UK of free movement of labour within the EU is that migrant workers who come to UK could contribute to the positive multiplier effect. This is when an initial increase in aggregate demand can have a greater impact on GDP. The workers will be spending in the UK, boosting aggregate demand and GDP. The rise in GDP will create more jobs as firms look to expand. An argument against this point is that shortages may appear when migrants return home because overall they want to help their families in their own country. Spending may be decreased because of this which will decrease aggregate demand and GDP. Also, this could lead to a difficulty in long term stability because if they can leave as easily as they can arrive then there will be a shortage of

From his works like A Streetcar Named Desire, to the works like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Williams exemplified his own artistic and distinct style that still stands as the forefront of the classic American Theatre (Bloom, 2000). Born and raised in the South, the plays of Williams used the quirks and characters of the region. This style of worship has an emphasis on relationship. Horness seeks to set forth the true goal of contemporary worship. It is not just about the instrumentation; instead it focuses on the communication. Horness takes the reader personally through his journey from traditional worship to contemporary worship, including his experience with Willow Creek Church. In his chapter, Horness promotes an emphasis on connecting: connecting unbelievers with believers and ultimately, connecting all people with God. He states, People of this generation are longing to experience the genuine presence of God. And God is longing to move in and among the hearts of his people. If we will learn to worship from hearts that are fully engaged, God will be glorified and set free to move in us and among us (104). This essay will explore the argument that international terrorism represents the greatest threat to the security of the United Kingdom. It will begin by defining, within the context of this essay, what is meant by the concepts of national security, terrorism and international terrorism, and how international terrorismthreatens our nation through both direct and indirect means. Throughout, it will identify a snapshot of the current gamut of security threats to the United Kingdom and analyse, through these threats, how international terrorism poses the most substantial menace to the security of the United Kingdom. To the military minded individual, it could appear that the notion of national security is limited to the threat posed by physically violent or military action. However, as a matter of policy, the United Kingdom defines national security as the security and well being of the United Kingdom as a whole (REF). This includes the security of the nation s social security, economic stability, power of diplomatic influence, and the physical security and well being of the United Kingdom s population. Terrorist activity is no longer limited to direct physical attacks on the state in order to achieve their cause and as will be explored further in this essay, threats to national security are evolving into more indirect methods in order to undermine the nation s well being. For way of definition, and for the purpose of this article, terrorism can be described as the use

With such scrutiny it becomes readily apparent that each of the three objectives need not be attained equally. The reasons why he resorts to these methods are almost as evident as the methods themselves. In this trial there is little to no physical evidence, the prosecution is based almost entirely on the testimony of Clodia (as Cicero points out (Cicero, p.140 141)) and various other witnesses. And despite the fact that Cicero claims Fact will be pitted against fact (Cicero, p.137) the outcome of the case depends largely on which side the jury chooses to believe; Cicero knows that if the jury is on his side then they will tend to value his points over those of his opponents. In order to sway the jurors he flatters them and attempts to entertain them, because if they feel good will towards him as he speaks that could easily be transferred to his statements as well. Now, was it you didn t enjoy school whatsoever, or was it really the environment they put you in at school? Well, kids today are facing those exact same problems each day. It s time to get to the bottom of it. The school environment children spend most of their day is a place many kids across the nation do not enjoy. There are many flaws in today s school environment that some may not realize. However, many schools tend to blame the kids by telling them they simply do not wantto work and they are acting lazy. Even if there is a small percentage of students where that really is the case, but for the other ninety percent, that is completely false, and it is crucial we emphasize that. School environment issues include children being allowed to have their cell phones in the classroom which is decreases their work time, the excessive amount of homework kids are being faced with which is causing some kids to cheat and giving them anxiety and stress issues, and the debate about extending the school which would push back students schedules causing the to get less sleep, but still having to wake up just as early as before the in the morning. To begin, some students and teachers are wishing to bring cell phones into the classroom more often. They are becoming rather eager to have cell phones be the next step in transforming our classrooms into techonology

  • 31. Social Commentary In A Christmas Carol A Christmas Carol is a beautifully crafted novel which symbolizes life in the Victorian Era where class discrimination was a common practice and nearly no one would speak up against it except Charles Dickens. Social commentary is a skill used by artist of every deviation to making remarks on sundry issues society faces and in Dickens case, he uses his words to lessen the social gap between the poor and rich. Dickens leads the reader into his novel immediately by explaining that Ebenezer Scroogeis a harsh miser whose only friend and partner, Jacob Marley, died 7 years ago on Christmas Eve. After he spends his day at the counting house, Scrooge returns to his house and as he lies in bed, Marly burst into his chambers wearing, the chain I forged in life, (Dickens 16), bestowing upon him a prophecy: 3 Spirits will haunt him, however his consent is paramount if wants a proper afterlife. After each spirit, Scrooge learns about how his misanthropic actions adversely affects others until he learns to honor the Spirit of Christmas year round. Dickens used social commentary to unearth the spirit of Christmas amongst all by using social commentary to express that one s class should not have an effect on how someone is treated. During the Victorian era, Dickens family was part of England s lower class who only had scraps of food, few possessions, and had to work from dawn to dusk to survive the cruelty of the world. In this passage, Ursula s will is dancing in a way with Skrebensky s, but it is always separate. The moon has some deeper significance for her, as it did for Anna, as it pierces the darkness, entering and becoming her
  • 46. Examples Of Heroism In The Book Of Exodus The Book of Exodus is the story of the Israelite s escape from slavery through the leadership of Moses and power of God. Moses demonstrates numerous heroic characteristics throughout the Book of Exodus as he leads the Israelites to freedom. As defined by Professor of Classics at Rutgers University Lowell Edmunds, a herois a man, often of divine ancestry, [and] favored by the gods. In addition, Edmunds continues the definition of a hero as one who is endowed with great courage and strength...especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life. Under this definition, we can draw significant parallels between Mosess life and a traditional hero s life. God chooses and favors Moses; he is born into a divine line, and also granted great powers to aid him in his journey. In addition, he uses his God given strength to lead and protect the Israelites. Lastly, Moses sacrifices his life to fulfill his heroic responsibility, despite his original hesitations. These aspects of Moses life and traits reflect significantly on his persona and prove his heroism. From birth, Moses heroic destiny is clear. He is born into a family lineage of divine power and knowledge, and then Pharaoh raises him. Although his biological mother put [him] in [a basket] among the reeds at the river s brink, he is well aware of his roots throughout his early life. This knowledge significantly affects his actions, which reflect his inherent heroism. Before God confronts Moses, he sees an

  • 48. An Analysis Of Drop By Drop By Vivian Vande Velde It is a known fact that drinking and driving is an extremely unintelligent decision. Not only does this affect someone s life by making the decision to be intoxicated behind the wheel, but also this can completely change a stranger s life. Although the mind is being affected while under the influence, it still has shown for a long period of time afterward. This concept is seen in the short story, Drop by Drop . The main character, Brenda, is in confusion throughout the story about her decisions to drive while intoxicated. It takes the presence of a ghost and going through a state of denial for Brenda to come to realization with what she has done. In Vivian Vande Velde s Drop by Drop , Vivian uses Brenda as a prime example of mentality from being intoxicated. Brenda s mind is making her see things that are not exactly real. Throughout moving into a new house Brenda is noticing several mischievous actions, such as clothes falling to the floor, hearing a toddler s bike with no sight of kids anywhere, and even to the point of seeing a ghost. Little does Brenda know, these events are taking place because of her decision to drink and drive, which she has little to no memory of. This is beginning to change the way she sleeps, when she notices something in her bed and runs to her parents for help, I was angry, even though he was right. I don t know, I said. It doesn t have to be a rat. I couldn t see what it was. I only felt it (Vande Velde 25). Brenda is fully
