Key Principles Of Play At A Forest School
Learner Name: Rachel Fleming Cohort: Course A May 2014 Module 1 Assessment Task 1
Learning and Development at a Forest School Programme SG1/3/NQ/003 2.7 Evaluate the key
principles of play and their relevance to Forest School Rachel Fleming Course A May 2014 Play
is an essential part of every child s life and is vital for the enjoyment of childhood as well as
social, emotional, intellectual and physical development. Play England (2014) As far back as
1826 Froebel saw the value of play in the opportunities it provides for sensory experiences, which
he believed, are the foundations of intellectual development (Moyles, 1989 p. 8). However the big

Principle 4: Forest School offers learners the opportunity to take supported risks appropriate to
the environment and to themselves. Thinking back to our own childhood the vast majority of
the Course A May 2014 Forest School Leaders early play memories had a setting in the outdoors
such as Rachel Fleming Course A May 2014 the garden, woods, river, fields, beaches and sand
dunes to name but a few. They involved being free to choose your own activities and develop
them as the individual or group saw fit as well as to challenge themselves both physically and
mentally. The adults were often back home, you knew where they were if you needed them,
however they did not stop you from taking risks and challenging yourself. We remember taking
part in tree climbing, grass blowing, making dens, creating perfumes and potions, imagining cloud
pictures and acting out small world/imaginary scenarios e.g. fairy kingdom or War zones. These
memories of our own childhood, developing the skills and knowledge we are using as adults
today, are fundamental to the research of Sutton Smith (1997) cited in the work of Lester Maudsley
(2007) who notes to children play is about having fun , being outdoors and with friends, choosing,
not working, pretending and fantasy etc. Children have a right to play as stated in the UN

My Personal Definition For School Curriculum Essay
The meaning of the term curriculum is difficult to define. For school, Pratt (in Brady and Kennedy,
2014, p. 3) argues that curriculum can be an organized set of formal educational and training
intentions . For students, Marsh and Wills (in Brady and Kennedy, 2014, p. 3) maintain that
curriculum is an interrelated set of plans and experiences that a student undertakes under the
guidance of the school , while for teachers, the challenge is to develop curricula that will cater for
the needs of all students (Ah Sam Ackland, 2005). There are various meanings attached to the term
curriculum . My personal definition for school curriculum is that schools develop programs of
different study areas basing on the content of the national curriculum document; teachers plan their
teaching basing on the programs; eventually, students experience the curriculum by engaging in
diverse teaching activities. In this essay, I will be discussing The Early Years Learning Framework
(EYLF) in relation to the strategic plan and teaching philosophy of Hampton Park East
Kindergarten. EYLF for Australia guides Early Childhood Educationin Australia today. The aim of
this framework is to support children s learning and development from birth to eight years. The
framework provides a guideline for early childhood educators to foster children s physical and
mental development. Early childhood educators in Australia recognize the importance of family
educationin children s learning and the EYLF

Leadership And Servant Leadership In The Galileo Seven
In the episode The Galileo Seven , Mr. Spock is in command of a space shuttle craft, which crash
lands on a hostile alien planet. His leadership style and behaviour cause conflict and resentment
amongst the crew of the shuttle craft, as he battles to extract them from the alien planet. Ultimately,
he could save the remaining crew and himself and get back to the USS Enterprise.
The leadership style of Spock can be analysed using several leadership theories that was introduced
during the lecture series such as Trait Approach, Skills Approach, Behavioural Approach,
Transactional Transformational Leadership, Situational/Contingency Approach, Path Goal Theory,
Authentic Leadership and Servant Leadership.
Looking at the Trait Approach it assumes that Leaders are exceptional people, born with innate
qualities, destined to lead. Considering the background of Mr. Spock he was not considered as a
first choice for leadership because captain Kirk was presumed to be better suited for leadership
according to this leadership theory. However, as a lot of other theories suggest a leader cannot be
only assessed by innate qualities. In the mid 20th century, the trait approach was challenged by
research that questioned the universality of leadership traits. Stogdill (1948) suggested that no
consistent set of traits differentiated leaders from non leaders across a variety of situations.
(Nothhouse, 2016) (Stogdill, 1948)
Considering the Skills approach it suggests that leadership is not only about innate characteristics.
Several skills and abilities which can be learned and developed helps a person to become a better
leader.
Based on field research Katz (1955) suggested that effective administration (i.e., leadership)
depends on three basic personal skills: technical, human, and conceptual. Technical skill is
knowledge about and proficiency in a specific type of work or activity. Human skill is knowledge
about and ability to work with people. Conceptual skills are the ability to work with ideas and
concepts. (Northhouse, 2016) (Katz, 1955)
Considering the case of Mr. Spock; in my opinion Mr. Spock was very well equipped with both
Technical skills and Conceptual Skills which helped him to be a successful leader. However, he

Essay on The Effects of Television Violence on Children
The Effects of Television Violence on Children
According to the Article ?Violence on Television? published by the American Psychological
Association at the website http://www.apa.org/pubinfo/violence.html, ?violent programs on
television lead to aggressive behavior by children and teenagers who watch those programs.? That
s the word from a 1982 report by the National Institute of Mental Health, a report that confirmed
and extended an earlier study done by the Surgeon General. As a result of these and other research
findings, the American Psychological Association passed a resolution in February 1985 informing
broadcasters and the public of the potential dangers that viewing violence on television can have for
children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers noticed real differences between the kids who watched the violent shows and
those who watched nonviolent ones. According to Aletha Huston, Ph.D., ?children who watch
the violent shows, even just funny cartoons, were more likely to hit out at their playmates,
argue, disobey class rules, leave tasks unfinished, and were less willing to wait for things than
those who watched the nonviolent programs.? Findings from the laboratory are further
supported by field studies, which have shown the long range effects of televised violence.
Leonard Eron, Ph.D., and his associates at the University of Illinois, found that children who
watched many hours of TV violence when they were in elementary school tended to also show a
?higher level of aggressive behavior? when they became teenagers. By observing these
youngsters until they were 30 years old, Dr. Eron found that the ones who ?had watched a lot of
TV when they were eight years old were more likely to be arrested and prosecuted for criminal acts
as adults?.
Television does influence children, however parents have tremendous power to moderate that
influence. Because there is a great deal of violence in both adult and children s programming, just
limiting the number of hours children watch television will probably

How Technology Is Impacting Globalization
Globalization is the process by which people, businesses and countries become more connected and
interdependent. With new technology it has become so much easier to access data, from anywhere
in the world. The world has many problems that cannot be fixed without globalization and by
moving towards one global culture. The world is moving towards one global culture because
different cultures are adapting and sharing ideas of others that are gradually changing the way
people in these cultures live. The world will benefit with globalizationbecause it will increase the
interaction and relationships between countries, and improve technology to create a stronger plan
on how to protect the environment.
Technology is impacting globalization. Transportation, cheap telephone service, email, computers
and instant capital flows made the world more interdependent. Travel, communication, and
interaction between countries has increased. This interaction between countries has moved the
world towards one global culture because it will help with improving long standing problems such
as the environment. For example, climate change has threatened the well being of citizens around
the world. Food and water shortage are just a few examples. Moving towards one global society
can help eliminate some of these problems by creating a stronger system of providing resources
with food and water shortages to vulnerable countries. Technology can help detect natural disasters
sooner to bring awareness to

Animal Experimentation Research
Imagine yourself strapped to a table while strangers with cold hands pry open your eyes to drop a
burning liquid onto your pupils, all while poking and prodding your limbs. This kind of needless
torture happens hundreds of times every day as scientists try to find answers to scientific questions,
only to find out that all of the pain and suffering was all for nothing. Animal dissection has a long
history that dates back to the Stone Age, but did not gain traction until the seventeenth century. At
this time, English physician William Harvey managed to demonstrate circulation of blood using
animals and then applied it to humans showing the value of vivisectionfor accurately illustrating
physiology as well as anatomy in 1628 (Judson 15). After... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to NEAV, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has noted that 92 percent of all
drugs that are shown to be safe and effective in animal tests fail in human trials because they don t
work or are dangerous. The article goes on to explain that out of the 8 percent of drugs that do
pass the human trials, half of them must be relabeled to account for unforeseen side effects on
human subjects. The ramifications of these failing experiments cost companies millions of dollars.
Furthermore, PETA explains that there are several drugs that are essential to human medicine that
react quite negatively in animals. For example, aspirin kills cats and causes birth defects in
several other animals including dogs and monkeys. If that drug had first been tested on cats, it
never would have reached the market and provided the extensive relief it has to date. Also,
animals in laboratories to be experimented upon are known to display understandably stressed
behavior which jeopardizes the accuracy and credibility of the results. For example, in a
NewScientist article by Ann Baldwin, the dangers of anxious animals are explained. The report
writes that rats housed in such conditions (laboratories) show an inflammatory response in their
intestines accompanied by leaky blood vessels. The article proceeds to examine the outcome of that
response (along with others) and

Imaging In Physical Therapy
Diagnostic imaging is an important tool for the differential diagnosis of many musculoskeletal
conditions. Physical therapists working in direct access roles are assuming greater diagnostic
responsibility. The role of musculoskeletal imaging in physical therapist practice is therefore
becoming increasingly important. Availability of diagnostic studies to physical therapists may vary
greatly depending upon many factors within the practice setting. US Army physical therapists
functioning as direct access providers have long held privileges for ordering imaging studies and
laboratory tests considered essential to their diagnostic role. I strongly support physical therapy
practice act should allow for physical therapists

Falsely Accused Analysis
The stigma associated with a sexual assault charge can be difficult to shake, even following an

accusation of this magnitude can easily ruin a person s livelihood, relationships, and reputation
regardless of the claim s validity. If you have been falsely accused of sexual assault, swift action

Social And Social Identity Theory
Originally proposed by Tajfel and Turner, the Social Identity Theory (SIT) can be described as
the comparison between the individual self and the social self. More specifically, it is the
individual s perception that is derived from their membership of a social group (ingroups and
outgroups) or personal identities. The theory is divided into three different psychological
mechanisms: social categorization, social comparison, and the tendency for people to use the
group membership as a source to gain self esteem. A theory is defined as a theory as long as it
meets the two requirements: describing behaviors and the ability to describe/see the future
behaviors of individuals. Since the behaviors of individuals can be based on the social... Show more

Individuals tend to over exaggerate the differences between the outgroups and outgroups, while
they exaggerate the similarities between the ingroups. The Social Identity Theory demonstrates
reliability in that it provides an explanation for intergroup behaviors such as stereotypes. The
theory is demonstrated within the study of Sherif et al (1954). The study was carried out in
order to observe the creation of groups, attitudes, and the norms of the groups through group
activities. Sherif intended to observe the reactions and attitudes between the individuals when
there are two separate groups (realistic conflict theory). The researchers had 22 boys with similar
backgrounds and boys in the age group of 11 12 years old. Boys were divided into two separate
groups before the experiment began and the researchers used single blind study in that the boys did
not realize that they were participating in an experiment; the boys were there to attend a summer
camp. The two groups were divided and each group participated in team bonding activities and the
boys had created their distinctive identity as members of the Eagles or members of the Rattlers.
Researchers created a game in which only one group benefited in order to create conflict between
the two groups. Unlike the decent start in the beginning, the members of each group portrayed

Persuasive Essay On Antidepressant In Children
Depression is defined as a mental illness in which a person is experiencing deep sadness and
loneliness. It is known as one of the most common mental illnesses and it affects all kinds of
people, regardless of sex, age and religion. Many people are not aware that depression is not only
diagnosed in adults, but in children and adolescents as well. Therefore, there is a debate about
whether children suffering from depression should be allowed to take antidepressants.
Antidepressantdrugs should be prescribed for children suffering from depression under the
conditions of doctors limiting the medication, including therapy and having the parents informed

Antidepressant drugs, which can be lifesaving, are being underused in young people. Their use fell
significantly after the Food and Drug Administration issued its black box warning in October of
2004, stating that all antidepressants were associated with a risk of increased suicidal feeling,
thinking and behavior in adolescents; later on that warning was extended to young adults
(Friedman 1). The Food and Drug Administration FDA ordered drug companies to place a black
box warning on antidepressant drugs, this would then allow parents to see the side effects the drug
might come with. As antidepressants can have its benefits, it is not the only way to treat a mental
illness like depression. The majority of parents believe antidepressant is the only treatment and that
psychotherapy is a waste of time and money. About 80 percent of people with depression respond
positively to professional medical treatment usually talk therapy, medication or a combination of
both and almost all patients gain some relief from their symptoms. Unfortunately, less than half of
those with depression seek treatment(Clayton

What Is The Weaknesses Of The Modern World
The author separates the book into four main parts, The Modern World , Resources , The Third
World and Organization and Ownership . Each section touches on different ideas of economy,
philosophy and the environment, through the common lens of microeconomics, which champions
alleviation of problems through the scaling down from the current mega economies to village sized
economies. Further subsections incorporate ideas such as education, energy and the different scales
of organizations. Schumacher ends the book by relating all the aforementioned topics back to each
other and calling urgency to reprioritize to avoid an imminent downfall. This is an extremely
strong book, with many evident strengths. Written in an idealistic and conversational tone, the
writer calls on many issues that are still relevant over four decades later. Issues like over use of
resources, the dangers of static technology, and human s obsession over materialism are still very
real problems that have only worsened since Schumacher first called attention to them. While most
books that were written in the 1970s about technology and economy run the risk of becoming
outdated very, Schumacher has done an excellent job of addressing the root of the issues, including
materialistic consumption versus happiness, which seem to be timeless. On the issue of technology
in particular, which was still at its beginning stages of developing, the author declared it acted like a

The Cosby Show Research Paper
There is no other time like the 1980s. The 1980s was a decade of important cultural and political
change. Music was punk and loud. Pop culture changed. Fashion was wild and over the top, with
lots of makeup, accessories, and big funky hair. Sitcoms did incorporate a lot of these elements;
however, sitcoms also addressed social issues and problems. Racism was one of the problems in
sitcoms in the 1980s, and three shows that addressed racism were The Cosby Show, A Different
World, and Diff rent Strokes.
The Cosby Show was an American television sitcom that ran from September 20, 1984 to April
30, 1992. The show focused on an African American family (The Huxtables) who were an upper

addressed in many ways; however, in season 5 episode 14 Cats in the Cradle both parties were
involved. In this episode, students at Hillman College confront a racial act committed by
students at a rival school, which resulted in both parties being put in jail and forced to confront

The And Punishment Of The United Nations
Impunity is defined as an exemption from punishment or freedom from the injurious consequences
of an action. More specific, it refers to the failure to bring perpetrators of human rights violations to
justice, thus denying victims the right to justice and restoration. These violators may be
government officials or private individuals and they are often protected by special jurisdictions,
sanctions, immunities, or amnesties. In 1945, at the Nuremberg Trials, which judged the accused
war criminals of Nazi Germany, the international community pledged that never again would it
allow monstrous crimes against humanity or genocideto take place. The United Nationsrecognized
the need for an international criminal court to prosecute and punish persons responsible and to help
end impunity for these perpetrators of the most serious crimes against humanity. In 1948, the
United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the
Crime of Genocide. By 1951, international treaties against genocide, war crimes and crimes against
humanity had entered into force, establishing a body of law known as International Humanitarian
Law. On July 17, 1998, the international community reached a historic milestone through the
adoption of the Rome Statute, the legal basis for establishing the International Criminal Court
(ICC). The ICC is the first permanent, treaty based, international criminal court established to help

The Importance Of Powerful Messages In Toy Story, By Pixar
We all know Pixar for their entertaining, lovable, animated movies that not only share valuable
themes for children, but also their parents and older audiences as well. From 1995 when Pixar
released the first Toy Story film to this day, many people have grown up watching the gang of
toys go on their adventures (up 1). Teaching its audience many meaningful messages, from the
importance of friendship, to simple lessons like respecting your belongings. The films have an
effect on the audience in a way that they are able to connect to the characters of the story. Every
character has their own struggles to overcome and show us different values to embrace in our
everyday life. In addition, the trilogy of all the movies as a whole enlighten us with the fears we
have about change, and also how it can be inevitable and rewarding.

issues, as well as other challenges, to gather opinions from people who would be affected by
changes in major issues of society. As a result, many businesses have been formed to conduct
polls concerning these issues, and one such polling organization is known as Gallup Poll. The
Gallup Poll is an assessment of the opinions of the public that gathers samples that are meant to

In this form of writing, the narrator is only observing the story and uses the main character s

Monologues aid in exposing the inner most consciousness of a characters private and most inner
thoughts. In the story, the main character, Sister, strains throughout the books that everyone is

Alexsandro Palombo Essay
I also chose a picture of Disney princesses created by AleXsandro Palombo. There are a few
reasons he states that are the inspiration behind the images. The first being that he suffered
paralyzation in some parts of his body after surgeries to remove a rare cancer that he had. He is
now disabled and experiences what he says is discrimination and humiliation. He wants to create
an awareness of this problem. The next reason he gives is there are no Disney movies depicting
a princess with a disability and he believes that now is the time for Disney to consider creating a
princess with a disability because there are now more than ever so many people with
disabilities. He wants Disney to get the message that Disabled people have rights and are part of
the world. I agree with what AleXsandro Palombo says about Disney, they have not had any
movies with a disabled princess and I believe now is the time. Doing so could create a bridge
between people with disabilities and people without. It could create a tremendous positive outcome.

I was shocked at this comment. I think that there would be a greater outcomes of positives than
negatives by creating a princess with a disability. I believe that Disney could create an
acceptance and understanding of people with disabilities. It would probably produce a greater
confidence in younger children with disabilities and less fear from people who aren t educated
about disabilities. It could create inclusion and tolerance the list is endless. Disney has the power
to educate and bridge a gap between people with disabilities and people without

Marriage Of Figaro
The Marriage of Figaro, or Le Nozze di Figaro as originally titled in Italian, is a light hearted opera
buffa in four acts with musical setting by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and libretto by Lorenzo Da
Ponte. The libretto is based on La folle journГ©e, ou le Mariage de Figaro (The Madcap Day, or
the Marriage of Figaro), a comically titled stage play by Pierre Beaumarchais. Mozart s opera is in
fact part of a trilogy. The Marriageof Figaro continues the story of The Barber of Seville, another of
Beaumarchais plays adapted for opera by Paisiello. Composed in 1786 and originally a reasonable
success, The Marriage of Figaro s acclaim has grown much greater and is celebrated and
performed today around the world, so widely successful that it has even... Show more content on

In anticipation of attending the performance, I read up on the opera s plot and watched videos
of key moments. I became familiar with the characters and formed expectations of each. For
instance, I expected Count Almaviva to be foolishly arrogant, with an I expect to be obeyed
attitude. However, I was surprised and shocked to discover how very human each personage
really was. A typical novel is told in the point of view of one individual with whom we, the
audience, tend to sympathize with. We know their thoughts and feelings and we cheer them on ,
while despising the antagonists. In Guth s The Marriage of Figaro, I found myself wishing for
good closure for each and every one of the characters despite the fact that they are the source of
each other s misery.
Despite a solid effort from all voice parts and some disconcertingly beautiful standout arias,
overall, I found the libretto and Guth s atmospheric changes to be much too disconnected,
resulting, for me, in a somewhat disappointing Marriage of Figaro. Those hoping to experience
the classical brilliance of a Mozart Da Ponte opera will come out of the theatre dissatisfied. On the
other hand, those wanting a glimpse of traditional operatic music and dialogue with added
psychological depth will take immense pleasure in viewing COC s 2016 production of The

To Build A Fire Man s Journey Essay
In Jack London s To Build a Fire , London describes a man s tragic journey with his dog through
the bitter Yukon. This journey ends in the death of the man as his careless decisions finally results
in his downfall, however; his companion, the dog, is able to survive. London uses the dog in this
story as to embody the natural survival instincts that the protagonist lacks.
The dog portrays the role of the companion throughout the man s journey. The man does not travel
across the Yukonwith a human companion; even though he is told to do so before setting off on
his journey, but instead he takes his dog. During his journey, the dog serves as a tool for the
man; an example of this is when the man sensing danger, he made the dog go ahead. The dog did
not want to go , the dog was then pushed into the ice, a very deadly situation in the frozen climate
(1829). The man treated the dog very cruelly and only used the dog for his own selfish purposes.

The dog was able to understand the punitive atmosphere of the journey, yet the man, who is
stereotypically portrayed to be smarter than animals, did not encompass this basic instinct. An
example of this is that the man was chewing tobacco, and the muzzle of ice held his lips so
rigidly that he was unable to clear his chin when he expelled the juice (1828). The man was
opening his mouth every time he spit out the tobacco, so as a result, he was losing body heat.
Another careless mistake was that Each time he had pulled a twig he had communicated a slight
agitation to the tree an imperceptible agitation, so far as he was concerned, but an agitation
sufficient to bring about the disaster as he created an avalanche of snow falling from the tree to
extinguish the fire he had built beneath it

As of now, the Article of Confederations are not serving our needs, causing divisions between the

they had the divine right to extend their territory. The Mexican American War started mainly
because of the annexation of the Republic of Texas (established in 1836 after breaking away from

Unmentionable Times either. This is one of the rules because we must respect everyone in the
community that has been through this. The Unmentionable Times happened before the Great
Rebirth. The last rule for the society is that we must not keep secrets from people and the
Councils. If we find out that someone is keeping a secret they will be punished to go to the

from the book, Equality 7 2521 kept a secret that he created light in his secret tunnel. He then got

Council brought him to the Corrective Detention to lash at him till he told. We should not keep
secrets because everyone should know equally what everybody knows. All of these rules must be
followed for us to reach our goal as a society. As a society we will all become one together and

Does The Fruit Fly Experiment

The purpose of this conducting this lab is to see how the rocket can be changed physically to
make it fly higher up after being launched. Not only is the rocket going to fly higher but also
have to test to see if there is a way to thoroughly protect an egg after landing to keep it from
cracking/breaking. Research on the average height a rocket flies based on the PSI used showed that
the higher the PSI the higher it tends to fly. Experimental Design
The experimental question is Will the amount of air pressure change the height the rocket flies?.
The independent variable is the amount of pressure in the rocket. The dependent variable is how
high the rocket flies. The control is a bottle with just air no water launched at 60psi.
Hypothesis
If the air pressure is raised higher than the other experimental group s air pressure then the rocket
will fly higher because of the increased force pushing off the water to make it fly higher.

I predicted that the higher PSI would force the rocket to go higher. I feel as though to the results
differed from the hypothesis because the air pressure pump was broken when group 1 was
launching the rocket. Second, we could not keep all the constants the same since we had
different people building each rocket as well as each parachute. Lastly, we can t be sure the data
is accurate because we only have two group s data so we can t check the data and see if there is
a pattern. Ways to improve these errors could be to have one group work on the rockets. Another
group taking all the data so one group doesn t forget to put in the data. The last group to launch
the rocket. We would also need to be sure that all of the parachutes are the same as the math

While the car drives down on the cobblestone street toward the dock, I slowly sip the Pu er tea

Adam Smith Government
In the Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith claims a well governed is a prerequisite for a society to be
able to experience universal opulence wherein even individuals from the lowest socio economic
strata are able to bask in prosperity. However, he goes on to imply that even without government
intervention, the mechanism of the invisible hand would effectively provide for a society. This sets
up an immediate tension as it pertains to the role of a governmentin managing its economy and
social welfare: what degree of governmental action is optimal? And more importantly, what
motivates government policy? In the realm of international political economy, Smith decries his
government for its active role in colonialism and mercantilism; practices... Show more content on

As per Smith, it was based on the mistaken notion that the wealth of a society was determined by
the amount of gold in its reserves rather than the value of that gold in terms of production and
consumption. By excluding foreign competition, employers were able to enjoy a greater share of
the market (both domestic and foreign) while laborers endured lower wages and the entirety of
society faced a limited choice in terms of produce, all of which cemented the societal status quo and
allowed for power retention. For governments, who mistakenly thought that international trade was
a zero sum game, mercantilist practice enabled them to feel superior to their trading partners. In this
light, although accumulating wealth was the goal for employers and the government it is
imperative that the underlying reason for this desire be realized. Indeed, the desire for wealth was
merely need for the increase and consolidation of the power of each of these entities. For employers
mercantilism allowed them to maintain a competitive advantage, to accumulate capital and
importantly, to continue to employ labor so that they did not have to become laborers. For the
government, mercantilism was a means of promoting prosperity within borders and asserting their
authority towards other nations in order to remain a contending force in the international
community. Whether or not mercantilism itself was a success does not detract from its intention to
increase and consolidate power of those who held

Theme Of Bartleby The Scrivener
When looking back at older works of literature, a person can always draw parallels between the
lessons found written during that time period and the current time period. This is due to the fact
that these themes are easily applicable on an individual level no matter what the current society is
like. Herman Melvilles Bartlebythe Scriveneris no exception with its lessons primarily focusing on
isolation, the desire to avoid confrontation, and compassion. Through closer examination of these
three themes, it becomes obvious to the reader just how necessary these ideals are in today s society.

He s a moderately successful lawyer, and seems to have gained his professional standing just by
being dependable, rather than outstanding or ambitious. As far as the reader knows, the narrator
lives alone, but is not extraordinarily lonely, and has lived a markedly normal life. The narrator
does not have any major conflicts in life besides his strong desire to avoid confrontation. The
narrator backs down from all confrontation, and rationalizes it rather ridiculously; this shows us
that he is unaware of his own weakness in this area. This inability to confront problems directly
creates the initial problem with Bartleby. The narrator will go as far as convincing himself that
Bartleby is ill to avoid confronting him. Although Bartleby s passiveness irritated the narrator, he
continues to attempt to find reason for Bartleby s bizarre actions (Melville 30). (Melville 30) He
even fails to force Bartleby out of the office when Bartleby ceases completing his work, and
instead moves his practice to another building in order to escape conflict. This shows the reader
how necessary confrontation is, especially when in a leadership position. An effective team
requires work and effort from all members. There is an understood covenant between an employee
and an employer and when one side breaks this agreement, conflict arises. Confrontation is
essentially correction; which is necessary in achieving any goal

Lesser Developed Countries
Paul Collier is the author of The Bottom Billion a 2007 book about Lesser Developed Countries
(LDCs) and why they struggle to progress despite vast amounts of foreign aid. Collier makes the
argument that while much of LDCs are becoming wealthier, this isn t the case in Africa and
Central Asia who is stuck due to four development traps. Seventy percent of the bottom billion is
in Africa. According to Collier, the first trap is the conflict trap. He claims that 73% in the
bottom billion are in or have been in a war like conflict, almost always an internal civil war.
Countries with high rates of poverty are more likely to break out in civil war and the war itself
lowers incomes, therefore perpetuating the problem. This is partly due to the large amount of
available young men who are out of work and ready for a rebellion and due to the weakness of
the state, this becomes quite easy. The longer a country is at war, more actors become involved
due to the potential of profiting of it. A civil war also increases the risk of future conflicts and
according to Collier it is development in reverse. Economic loss and disease do not stop when the
fighting does. Furthermore, during conflict, political rights disappear and almost all of the world s
hard drugs come from these areas due to little law enforcement. Low income, slow growth, and
commodity export dependence make up the top three attributes of a high civil war risk country,
which is hard to live down after it begins, since

The traditional historian s view that the lack of buffalo did contribute severely to the Plains Indian

Pros And Consequences Of Recidivism
Recidivism refers to the act of committing another crime after a person has already received
punishment for previous offenses. The term is also used to describe individuals who tend to
relapse to a life of questionable behavior. The social process theory may explain a possible link to
recidivism. This argument known in the criminal justicesector as a criminal behavior that is a

whatever the case may be, recidivism has become a vicious cycle as in the case of Michael

method of establishing control and power in a relationship. Most victims of domestic violence
usually are subjected to more than one instance of abuse by the same partner. It is very common

Play England (2014) As far back as 1826 Froebel saw the value of play in the opportunities it provides for sensory experiences, which he believed, are the foundations of intellectual development (Moyles, 1989 p. 8). However the big question remains, what is play? This question does not seem to have a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Principle 4: Forest School offers learners the opportunity to take supported risks appropriate to the environment and to themselves. Thinking back to our own childhood the vast majority of the Course A May 2014 Forest School Leaders early play memories had a setting in the outdoors such as Rachel Fleming Course A May 2014 the garden, woods, river, fields, beaches and sand dunes to name but a few. They involved being free to choose your own activities and develop them as the individual or group saw fit as well as to challenge themselves both physically and mentally. The adults were often back home, you knew where they were if you needed them, however they did not stop you from taking risks and challenging yourself. We remember taking part in tree climbing, grass blowing, making dens, creating perfumes and potions, imagining cloud pictures and acting out small world/imaginary scenarios e.g. fairy kingdom or War zones. These memories of our own childhood, developing the skills and knowledge we are using as adults today, are fundamental to the research of Sutton Smith (1997) cited in the work of Lester Maudsley (2007) who notes to children play is about having fun , being outdoors and with friends, choosing, not working, pretending and fantasy etc. Children have a right to play as stated in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child Article 31: 1.StatesPartiesrecognize ... • 3. My Personal Definition For School Curriculum Essay The meaning of the term curriculum is difficult to define. For school, Pratt (in Brady and Kennedy, 2014, p. 3) argues that curriculum can be an organized set of formal educational and training intentions . For students, Marsh and Wills (in Brady and Kennedy, 2014, p. 3) maintain that curriculum is an interrelated set of plans and experiences that a student undertakes under the guidance of the school , while for teachers, the challenge is to develop curricula that will cater for the needs of all students (Ah Sam Ackland, 2005). There are various meanings attached to the term curriculum . My personal definition for school curriculum is that schools develop programs of different study areas basing on the content of the national curriculum document; teachers plan their teaching basing on the programs; eventually, students experience the curriculum by engaging in diverse teaching activities. In this essay, I will be discussing The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) in relation to the strategic plan and teaching philosophy of Hampton Park East Kindergarten. EYLF for Australia guides Early Childhood Educationin Australia today. The aim of this framework is to support children s learning and development from birth to eight years. The framework provides a guideline for early childhood educators to foster children s physical and mental development. Early childhood educators in Australia recognize the importance of family educationin children s learning and the EYLF ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Leadership And Servant Leadership In The Galileo Seven In the episode The Galileo Seven , Mr. Spock is in command of a space shuttle craft, which crash lands on a hostile alien planet. His leadership style and behaviour cause conflict and resentment amongst the crew of the shuttle craft, as he battles to extract them from the alien planet. Ultimately, he could save the remaining crew and himself and get back to the USS Enterprise. The leadership style of Spock can be analysed using several leadership theories that was introduced during the lecture series such as Trait Approach, Skills Approach, Behavioural Approach, Transactional Transformational Leadership, Situational/Contingency Approach, Path Goal Theory, Authentic Leadership and Servant Leadership. Looking at the Trait Approach it assumes that Leaders are exceptional people, born with innate qualities, destined to lead. Considering the background of Mr. Spock he was not considered as a first choice for leadership because captain Kirk was presumed to be better suited for leadership according to this leadership theory. However, as a lot of other theories suggest a leader cannot be only assessed by innate qualities. In the mid 20th century, the trait approach was challenged by research that questioned the universality of leadership traits. Stogdill (1948) suggested that no consistent set of traits differentiated leaders from non leaders across a variety of situations. (Nothhouse, 2016) (Stogdill, 1948) Considering the Skills approach it suggests that leadership is not only about innate characteristics. Several skills and abilities which can be learned and developed helps a person to become a better leader. Based on field research Katz (1955) suggested that effective administration (i.e., leadership) depends on three basic personal skills: technical, human, and conceptual. Technical skill is knowledge about and proficiency in a specific type of work or activity. Human skill is knowledge about and ability to work with people. Conceptual skills are the ability to work with ideas and concepts. (Northhouse, 2016) (Katz, 1955) Considering the case of Mr. Spock; in my opinion Mr. Spock was very well equipped with both Technical skills and Conceptual Skills which helped him to be a successful leader. However, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That s the word from a 1982 report by the National Institute of Mental Health, a report that confirmed and extended an earlier study done by the Surgeon General. With new technology it has become so much easier to access data, from anywhere in the world. The world has many problems that cannot be fixed without globalization and by moving towards one global culture. The world is moving towards one global culture because different cultures are adapting and sharing ideas of others that are gradually changing the way people in these cultures live. The world will benefit with globalizationbecause it will increase the interaction and relationships between countries, and improve technology to create a stronger plan on how to protect the environment. This interaction between countries has moved the world towards one global culture because it will help with improving long standing problems such as the environment. For example, climate change has threatened the well being of citizens around the world. Food and water shortage are just a few examples. A Puritan believed couple, who s in the mindset of being set for life all because of Faith being an Elite, thus leading to Goodman Brown going into the woods and fighting evil to be recognized as one of the Elites as well (1). He quickly scurried back to the streets of Salem (9), there he sees the townspeople in their natural environment. Praying, practicing their faith, even dictating catechism to the younglings, but Goodman Brown was convinced that what he saw was not a dream. When he emerges home his wife greets him with joy after his late night adventure, yet after what he saw, he simply walked away and gave her the cold shoulder. In theory, Goodman Brown is affected and convinced that the late night ritual did happen and pushes everyone around him away and dies a lonely, bitter old man. In comparison to Rip Van Winkle, who is a very well liked man in his community (3), but faces the usual marriage conflict of his wife constantly nagging and him looking for a way to escape (4). He travels first with his dog Wolf to the inn, where he goes to listen to Nicholas Vedder and his group discus the political distress they feel (4). Not soon after his wife would call and explicitly demand her husband go back home immediately. Instead Rip unconsciously dragged himself to the highest point of the Kaatskill mountains, where he perused his favorite sport of squirrel shooting (5). We all have a job to do, and as we achieve them, we need to learn our ways there and back. Forget the past, and look forward to the future. This is one of the rules because we must respect everyone in the community that has been through this. The Unmentionable Times happened before the Great Rebirth. The last rule for the society is that we must not keep secrets from people and the Councils. If we find out that someone is keeping a secret they will be punished to go to the Corrective Detention till they tell. Depends on how big the secret is though. For an example from the book, Equality 7 2521 kept a secret that he created light in his secret tunnel. He then got caught. He went to the Council of the Home, but he didn t tell them where he has been. Then the Council brought him to the Corrective Detention to lash at him till he told. We should not keep secrets because everyone should know equally what everybody knows. All of these rules must be followed for us to reach our goal as a society. Not only is the rocket going to fly higher but also have to test to see if there is a way to thoroughly protect an egg after landing to keep it from cracking/breaking. Research on the average height a rocket flies based on the PSI used showed that the higher the PSI the higher it tends to fly. Experimental Design The experimental question is Will the amount of air pressure change the height the rocket flies?. The independent variable is the amount of pressure in the rocket. The dependent variable is how high the rocket flies. The control is a bottle with just air no water launched at 60psi. Hypothesis If the air pressure is raised higher than the other experimental group s air pressure then the rocket will fly higher because of the increased force pushing off the water to make it fly higher. Lastly, we can t be sure the data is accurate because we only have two group s data so we can t check the data and see if there is a pattern. Ways to improve these errors could be to have one group work on the rockets. Another group taking all the data so one group doesn t forget to put in the data. The last group to launch the rocket. What happened to the dresses that I picked out for you at Poiret s boutique yesterday? Blue makes your skin look washed out, you know that Angeline, I scold. Accidentally ripped it, my sister replies, giving a dismissive shrug and turns around. I glare at her back, wondering how she could only be a year younger than me when she acted like a child. The Isotta Fraschini rolls to a stop, and I glance around taking in my surroundings as our chauffeur helps me out. Adam Smith Government In the Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith claims a well governed is a prerequisite for a society to be able to experience universal opulence wherein even individuals from the lowest socio economic strata are able to bask in prosperity. However, he goes on to imply that even without government intervention, the mechanism of the invisible hand would effectively provide for a society. This sets up an immediate tension as it pertains to the role of a governmentin managing its economy and social welfare: what degree of governmental action is optimal? And more importantly, what motivates government policy? In the realm of international political economy, Smith decries his government for its active role in colonialism and mercantilism; practices... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As per Smith, it was based on the mistaken notion that the wealth of a society was determined by the amount of gold in its reserves rather than the value of that gold in terms of production and consumption. By excluding foreign competition, employers were able to enjoy a greater share of the market (both domestic and foreign) while laborers endured lower wages and the entirety of society faced a limited choice in terms of produce, all of which cemented the societal status quo and allowed for power retention. For governments, who mistakenly thought that international trade was a zero sum game, mercantilist practice enabled them to feel superior to their trading partners. In this light, although accumulating wealth was the goal for employers and the government it is imperative that the underlying reason for this desire be realized. Indeed, the desire for wealth was merely need for the increase and consolidation of the power of each of these entities. For employers mercantilism allowed them to maintain a competitive advantage, to accumulate capital and importantly, to continue to employ labor so that they did not have to become laborers. For the government, mercantilism was a means of promoting prosperity within borders and asserting their authority towards other nations in order to remain a contending force in the international community. The narrator does not have any major conflicts in life besides his strong desire to avoid confrontation. The narrator backs down from all confrontation, and rationalizes it rather ridiculously; this shows us that he is unaware of his own weakness in this area. This inability to confront problems directly creates the initial problem with Bartleby. The narrator will go as far as convincing himself that Bartleby is ill to avoid confronting him. Although Bartleby s passiveness irritated the narrator, he continues to attempt to find reason for Bartleby s bizarre actions (Melville 30). (Melville 30) He even fails to force Bartleby out of the office when Bartleby ceases completing his work, and instead moves his practice to another building in order to escape conflict. This shows the reader how necessary confrontation is, especially when in a leadership position. An effective team requires work and effort from all members. • 36. Lesser Developed Countries Paul Collier is the author of The Bottom Billion a 2007 book about Lesser Developed Countries (LDCs) and why they struggle to progress despite vast amounts of foreign aid. Collier makes the argument that while much of LDCs are becoming wealthier, this isn t the case in Africa and Central Asia who is stuck due to four development traps. Seventy percent of the bottom billion is in Africa. According to Collier, the first trap is the conflict trap. He claims that 73% in the bottom billion are in or have been in a war like conflict, almost always an internal civil war. Countries with high rates of poverty are more likely to break out in civil war and the war itself lowers incomes, therefore perpetuating the problem. This is partly due to the large amount of available young men who are out of work and ready for a rebellion and due to the weakness of the state, this becomes quite easy. The longer a country is at war, more actors become involved due to the potential of profiting of it. A civil war also increases the risk of future conflicts and according to Collier it is development in reverse. Economic loss and disease do not stop when the fighting does. Furthermore, during conflict, political rights disappear and almost all of the world s hard drugs come from these areas due to little law enforcement. Low income, slow growth, and commodity export dependence make up the top three attributes of a high civil war risk country, which is hard to live down after it begins, since ...
