History Of Central Banks Of America
Abel Shiferaw Econ 201 Prof Emma Cummings 05/01/2015 History of Central
banks in America Even though central banks can improve a nation s economy and
are beneficial to governments, the central banks of America had a very
controversial history. Even before the establishment of the Federal Reserve, banks
were used by the public just as we use them today. Bank notes were in use during
this time and they were backed up by the guarantee that they can be traded for
either gold or silver on demand. The history of central banking in America dates
back to 1781 when the first bank of North America was chartered by the state of
Pennsylvania with the help of Robert Morris. It was the first ban k in America s
history to receive deposits and issue its own banknotes. Four years later, two more
banks were created that also issued their own bank notes: the bank of New York
and the Massachusetts bank. (thismatter.com) Some were not very supportive of
the formation of a central baking system because of England s efforts to place the
colonies under the control of the bank of England while others were strongly in
favor of it. As stated in the articles of confederation, congress was given the power
to print bills of credit and to establish a national bank similar to the bank of England
but objections rose of alarming foreign influence and fictitious credit (Wikipedia.org)
that hindered its ability to accomplish its intended role. On February 25 1791,
following the bank of North America, the
Chesapeake Colonies vs. New England Colonies
During the late 16th century and into the 17th century, two colonies emerged from
England in the New World. The two colonies were called the Chesapeake and New
England colonies. Even though the two areas were formed and governed by the
English, the colonies had similarities as well as differences. Differences in
geography, religion, politics, economic, and nationalities, were responsible for
molding the colonies. These differences came from one major factor: the very reason
the English settlers came to the New World.
The Chesapeake colonies were
primarily created by companies interested in profiting from the natural resources of
the New World such as gold or silver to bring back to England. The New England
colonies were primarily created... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both colonies were an experiment as a new society for colonization. In New England,
the population was almost entirely English and white. Religious families, including
Puritans, Quakers, and Catholics made up a large percentage of the population due to
the reputation the New England colonies had as a place of religious freedom. In the
Chesapeake colonies, the population was a majority white indentured servants and
later had more black slaves. With the boom in the tobacco industry, plantation owners
relied on the cheap labor slaves or indentured servants provided. Both colonies take
lead in driving off the natives and seizing their own land. Most of the population in
both colonies were English/White. The political difference between the New England
and Chesapeake region was that New England government associate more with
religious matter than the Chesapeake government. The type of government was a
theocratic environment. Each town, which was filled with educated people, had a
local authority and held monthly town meetings in the meeting hall. The Chesapeake
Colonies was a legislative owned by aristocrats. The county governments were more
spread out; therefore the backcountry farmers were underrepresented. Both colonies
had their set way of organizing their government. The New England and the
Chesapeake colonies differed in numerous ways. These differences included
geography, religion, economics, nationalities, and politics, which
My First Ever Defence Against The Dark Arts Lesson
Lesson 1: Introduction
Yesterday was my first ever Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson! I can tell it s
going to be my favourite subject, well, maybe joint favourite along with Charms.
We met our Professor, Melanie Silvers, who seems absolutely lovely. I ve heard
stories about how lots of professors in the past, before the Second Wizarding War,
ended up having to leave after only one year, so I hope that doesn t happen to
Professor Silvers. We received our syllabus, which looks so exciting! So many
different spells and creatures to look at each week!
We learned two incantations yesterday; the WandLighting Charm and the Wand
Extinguishing Charm, and I have been practising them both in my spare time. The
Wand Lighting Charm, Lumos, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After another few attempts, the light was significantly more yellow in colour, and I
felt very pleased with this outcome.
The Wand Extinguishing Charm, Nox, is a lot easier to use. At first, it took me a
few attempts to get it right, but I can successfully use it each time I require the
effects of Lumos to be removed. It feels really exciting to be using a spell that simple
requires a flick of the wrist and a short word!
Lesson 2: Bright Lights and a Little Softener
A few days ago we learned about Verdimillious and Spongify. I have since had the
chance to try out both of them!
On Monday evening, I was running through the grounds to get back into the Castle
before dark, when I tripped on a tree root and fell over. I think I was unconscious
for some time and when I awoke it was quite dark. I tried to move, but I had broken
my ankle. I needed to find a way of alerting someone to where I was. My muggle
grandfather had taught me Morse code when I was younger, so I thought I might be
able to use it with Lumos to attract attention. My head hurt and I wasn t able to
concentrate properly, so after saying Lumos! I could only see a faint white light that
wouldn t really attract any attention at all. I realise now that I had forgotten to think
about charging the spell properly! I took a few moments to rest.
I thought about Verdimillious too. I had picked it up pretty easily over the last
The Economic Crisis Of Iceland
Even though freedom for the private sector is a virtue, there should be government
regulation in place due to corporate official s inability to satiate their hunger for
personal wealth endangering the global economy and the event in 2008 which was
the global economic crisis occurring which could have been prevented or at least
lessened.
Iceland is known for its beautiful landscapes and vast expanses of nature. Human
civilization sparsely dots the land creating an aura of solitude everywhere you go.
Iceland can boast that it has good education, clean air, and barely any crime.
However, in 2000 the government in Iceland initiated a plan for a broad policy of
deregulation. Which would begin a set of disastrous events.

American accounting firms audited the Icelandic banks and investment firms which
found nothing to be out of the ordinary. Credit rating agencies reported that Iceland
was blooming in the economy. Credit rating agencies promoted the banks to the
highest possible rating of Triple A in 2007.
Then in 2008 Iceland s banks collapsed causing countless people to lose their savings.
Unemployment tripled in the six months. Government regulators, whose job was to
ensure financial stability, had done nothing. One third of Iceland s regulators worked
at those banks. This problem exists the U.S.
In September of 2008 the U.S. investment bank Lehman Brothers filed for
bankruptcy and the collapse of AIG, the world s largest insurance company, initiated
the global financial crisis. The effect this had on shares globally was catastrophic.
This in turn cost the world tens of trillions of dollars, doubling the national debt of
the Unites States and rendering thirty million people unemployed. This crisis was not
an accident. It was caused by an industry which had no supervision.
Since the 1980 s the rise of the U.S. financial sector has led to a series of
increasingly dire financial crisis. Each one of them causing more damage while the
industry has made more and more money.
After the Great Depression the U.S. had forty years of economic growth without
another crisis.

The most important part in supply chain management is managing inventory as

The Philosophical Works Of Descartes Essay
RenГ© Descartes 1641 Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 1996. This file is of
the 1911 edition of The Philosophical Works of Descartes (Cambridge University
Press), translated by Elizabeth S. Haldane. Prefatory Note To The Meditations.
The first edition of the Meditations was published in Latin by Michael Soly of Paris
at the Sign of the Phoenix in 1641 cum Privilegio et Approbatione Doctorum. The
Royal privilege was indeed given, but the approbation seems to have been of a
most indefinite kind. The reason of the book being published in France and not in
Holland, where Descartes was living in a charming country house at Endegeest
near Leiden, was apparently his fear that the Dutch ministers might in some way
lay hold of it. His friend, Pere Mersenne, took charge of its publication in Paris and
wrote to him about any difficulties that occurred in the course of its progress
through the press. The second edition was however published at Amsterdam in 1642
by Louis Elzevir, and this edition was accompanied by the now completed
Objections and Replies. 1 The edition from which the present translation is made is
the second just mentioned, and is that adopted by MM. Adam and Tannery as the
more correct, for reasons that they state in detail in the preface to their edition. The
work was translated into French by the Duc de Luynes in 1642 and Descartes
considered the translation so excellent that he had it published some years later.

1.How has the property tax changed over time for local governments? What are the
advantages and disadvantages of the property tax as a revenue source? In response to
these questions, make sure to refer to the main principles of taxation (equity,
efficiency, adequacy of revenue, political feasibility, and cost of administration), tax
and expenditure limitations, as well as the importance of revenue diversification for
local government.
Historically, property taxes have been the primary source of the local government s
income. In fact, approximately 70% of the local governments revenue stems from
property taxes (Lee, Johnson, and Joyce, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could lead to that individual moving to another location, also known as
gentrification. Political feasibility is high since it has historically been a consistent
source of revenue. Cost of administration would be relatively low since property
taxes, in terms of keeping track of properties, is relatively easy because of its
tangibility and lack of mobility.
With respect to revenue diversification, local governments have attempted to
diversify their sources of revenue by implementing one or a combination of these
taxes: sales taxes, income taxes, game of chance taxes (gambling, races, lotter, and
their derivatives), user charge taxes, and sumptuary taxes (cigarettes, alcohol, and
their derivatives) (Lee, Johnson, and Joyce, 2013). In circumstances that affect the
primary source of revenue, having access to other sources may serve as a buffer for
the local government. However, the problems with these sorts of taxes is uncertainty.
Property tax, as stated earlier is the most reliable while income or sales taxes rely on
income/ salaried employees and consumption of products, respectively.
2.Explain the major forecasting methods used by governments to forecast revenues
and expenditures. Explain Florida s experience with the consensus forecasting
process. Discuss which methods are more likely to be used and for what revenue
Similarities Between Gulf And The Gilgamesh Flood
The Epic of Gilgamesh has been important to Christians as far back as its revelation
in the mid nineteenth century in the vestiges of the library at Nineveh, with its
record of a general flood with critical parallels to the flood in the Book of Genesis.
There have been various flood stories distinguished from antiquated sources scattered
around the world. The stories that were found on cuneiform tablets, which involve a
portion of the most punctual surviving written work, and have clear similitudes. The
cuneiform style of writing was developed by the Sumerians and carried on by the
Akkadians. The Epic of Gilgameshwas contained on twelve extensive tablets, and
since the first discovery, it has been found on others and additionally having been
converted into other early languages. There are numerous similarities between the
Gilgamesh flood account and the scriptural flood account starting above all with
God picking an honest man to assemble an ark as a result of a looming incredible
flood. In the two records, tests from all types of creatures were to be on the ark, and
birds were utilized after the downpours to decide whether flood waters had died
down anyplace to uncover dry land. There are different similitudes between the
Gilgamesh flood account and the scriptural flood account. The similarities
between the flood account in both Genesis and Gilgamesh continued with its location.
Since these societies existed in Mesopotamia, it isn t out of the norm for those two to
share
Disadvantages Of Salting
Initially created as a response to the decline in union membership, salting is a
program where union members are encouraged by their union to seek employment at
a non union company. Once the individual(s) are hired, they begin to promote
unionization. Their union may provide them with a union wage in addition to their
regular rate of pay. There are three different types of salting. The first is in cases
where union jobs are not available. When this occurs, union members are encouraged
to look for employment at nonunion companies and on their own time. They are also
encouraged to speak to the benefits of unionization with their fellow coworkers.
Union members, in these cases, are not compensated by the union. The second type
of salting

Essay on History Of The Original Lincoln
In 1858, there was a great struggle within the state of Illinois for a seat in the
Senate. The well know Stephen A. Douglas, the favored candidate, was excepted to
win. Abraham Lincoln was not a well known candidate. In a struggle for the possible
position, Lincoln proposed that he and Douglas organize a series of debates, so that
both men might divide time, and address the same audiences during the same
canvass. Douglasaccepted, and he feared that he had everything to lose from a joint
appearance, and yet to decline the challenge would have seemed unmanly in the West
of the mid nineteenth century. Douglas then purposed dates and places; Lincoln
complained that Douglas would have four opening and closings speeches whereas he
would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lincoln finished well within his time.
Douglas quickly went on attack. Once again, he brought up the Black Republican
Party and Lincoln s connection to it. He argued that Lincoln did not deny being a part
of that party. He talked of the Springfield convention and reminded Lincoln of his
whereabouts on that day.
Now I want to remind Mr. Lincoln that he was at Springfield when that Convention
was held and those resolutions adopted. The point I am going to remind Mr.
Lincoln of is this: that after I had made my speech in 1854, during the fair, he gave
me notice that he was going to reply to me the next day. I was sick at the time, but I
staid over in Springfield to hear his reply and to reply to him. On that day this very
Convention, the resolutions adopted by which I have read, was to meet in the Senate
chamber. He spoke in the hall of the House and when he got through his speech my
recollection is distinct, and I shall never forget it Mr. Codding walked in as I took the
stand to reply, and gave notice that the Republican State Convention would meet
instantly in the Senate chamber, and called upon the Republicans to retire there and
go into this very convention, instead of remaining and listening to me.
He finished his attack with this comment:
The Black Republican party stands pledged...but he cannot devise his answer; he has
not made up his mind, whether he will or not. He talked about
A commentary of the poem The Broken Tower by Hart
Crane
A Broken Tower, by Hart Crane, is a metaphor rich poem that is very ambiguous
but seems to describe the difficulties of the creative process and the way in which
the artist is bound and compelled by it. Crane uses many religious metaphors and
references, directly mentioning God and also bells, which are associated with
churches. It is possible to interpret the poem in a religious sense, but it could be
argued that religion and art are similar metaphors; that, for the poet, his writings are
both a method of spiritual expression and a search for truth. The title, A Broken
Tower, refers to a continuing metaphor in the poem and suggests the deconstruction
of established paradigms which is necessary for artistic progress. Throughout the
poem,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is congruent with the need to destroy the tower, or destroy traditional ideas.
Supporting the strong visual imagery is the frequent mention of sound: the choir,
voices, reveilles and echoes.
Imperfection is once again alluded to with the entry of the poet into the broken
world in order to trace the visionary company of love, its voice. This seems to
directly refer to his creative process in seeking truth and beauty in his writing. It is
also the most positive concept expressed in the poem thus far a wholly positive one,
rather than the difficult process of destroying the obsolete mentioned before.
However, unlike the mighty tower, this voice is an instant in the wind and not for
long in other words, transitory. It is also mysterious and beyond the poets control,
like the bells in the tower, as the poet admits he know[s] not whither [it is] hurled.
Crane makes a more specific reference to his art; his word, as opposed to the Word
of that tribunal monarch of the air. The latter belongs to God, who is depicted as
powerful and judgemental: the deity of the Broken Tower. This could be seen as a
personification of the judgemental ostracism that Crane faced as a homosexual. The
God metaphor is expanded on, with mention of Christs wounds pledged once to
hope, but also a rejection of it: cleft to despair. In this stanza, Crane offers his word a
replacement of the old Tower, symbolizing a
Hunter Gathering Vs Farming Analysis
An anthropologist once referred to the domestication of animals and the cultivation of
plants as the worse mistake in the history of the human race. He has given many
examples to support his claim. The anthropologist starts off by saying that those who
remained hunter gatherers had more leisure time to socialize, etc. Overall, hunter
gathering was considered more enjoyable than farming. Farming was also considered
to be more work in the grand scheme of things. Although, you will be more
productive in farming when you measure how much foodwas produced per acre of
land. However, if you look at the amount produced per hour, you will find that the
hunter gathering way is more effective. Hunter gathering also was healthier than
early farming.
How Weather Derivatives Are Based On Standard

Weather derivatives are based on standard derivative structures, such as puts, calls,
and swaps. Fundamental attributes of these structures are: the tick size, which is the
payout amount per unit in the index beyond the strike; the strike, which is the value
of the underlying index when the contract starts to pay out; and the limit, which is
the contract s maximum financial payout.

The buyer of a weather option pays a premium to the seller that is typically between
10% and 20% of the notional amount of the contract. It can vary significantly
depending on the risk profile of the contract. Usually there is not an upfront premium
associated with swaps.

V. Who uses weather derivatives?
Within the larger category of exotic weather derivatives, there are a number of sub
categories that are utilized by companies who work in various markets.
Unsurprisingly, the large companies who use weather derivatives are those whose
businesses are widely affected by the weather on a day to day basis. Therefore, many
weather derivative contracts are based on temperature, rainfall, and snowfall. Demand
for sophisticated and flexible OTC products involving these three variables are
growing far more quickly than standardized, exchange traded contracts. And there are
new ideas and experimental weather derivatives buzzing about the markets, including
contracts based on sunshine and even wind patterns.
Although today energy companies are the biggest users of these trades, there is
growing awareness and signs of potential growth in the trading of weather futures
among agricultural firms, renewables, mining, retail, construction companies,
restaurants, and even companies involved in tourism and travel, like hotels and
airlines. The number of markets that could invest in and could benefit from weather
derivatives is endless. Here are some examples of industries and companies that
currently use weather derivatives, the type of weather they hedge on, and the risks
they assume:

Salesperson Assignment: Sophia Barrow
Performance Evaluation Self Critique
Section One Overall Performance Critique:
1.What did you do well in the meeting?
After going back and reviewing my performance evaluation of Sophia Barrow, I
feel like I did a very good job overall. The first thing I feel like I did well during the
meeting was keeping the conversation balanced. Keeping the conversation balanced
and not talking too much was my main issue going into the meeting. The next thing
I feel like I did really well on was asking for her opinion on her ratings of herself
throughout the meeting. To be an effective salesmanager you need to understand the
reasons behind the ratings the reps are giving themselves. I am very pleased with my
performance overall and feel excellent about the outcome of the meeting.
2.How effective do you think the meeting was for the salesperson you evaluated, and
what cues and evidence lead you to this conclusion?
I think the meeting was very effective for Sophia Barrow because she always
seemed to agree with my ratings or at least adjust her ratings of herself after our
discussion. With that being said I feel like she was very happy and surprised with
the promotion I offered her. I think this was a big clue that the meeting was very
effective overall. Another piece of evidence that I used to evaluate the effectiveness
of the meeting was the fact that she seemed to really be on the same
Computer Languages And Programming Frameworks
INRODUCTION Early accounting software was bespoke, painstakingly
handcrafted literally byte by byte over the course of months. While it represented
an obvious step forward from employing hordes of people chugging away on
adding machines and carrying stacks of paper all over the place, there was still a
great deal of room for improvement. As time passed, computer capacity grew to
enable the use of higher level development tools. These allowed people to define
and encode business rules without needing to understand everything down to the
basic wiring of the machine. True computer languages and programming
frameworks followed. Probably the first report generation language was developed
in 1959 for the IBM 7090 and known as 9PAC . At the time, storing and accessing
structured data on computers was still in its infancy, and some concepts from 9PAC
formed key parts of the development of early relational databases. Throughout the
1960s, companies invested in producing proprietary accounting systems tailored to
their particular requirements. Jobs would be run in batch mode, often overnight,
with only a select few permitted to see or access the computer directly (frequently,
this did not even include the programmers!) However, computers continued to grow
in capability, and the idea of building one generalized application with flexible
features which could be customized to each client s needs became reality in 1973
with the introduction of SAP RF. Over time SAP s product
A Blind Man’s Gift in Carver’s Cathedral Essay
A Blind Man s Gift in Cathedral
In Raymond Carver s story, Cathedral, one man s prejudice is overcome by another
man s gift. The husband in the story is given the gift of seeing a cathedral through a
blind man s eyes. The true gift comes from the cathedral, which represents the
husband s prejudice and the blind man s open mindedness. This gift is the revelation
the husband experiences while he looks at the cathedral with his eyes still closed.
According to Anatole Broyard Cathedral is a lovely piece about a blind man who
asks an acquaintance to guide his hand in sketching a cathedral he has never seen. At
the end, the two hands moving together one guided by the other come to seem a
gesture of fraternity (101). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . . The story is about learning how to imagine and feel (103). Because Robert is so
open and so understanding, he teaches the husband to imagine and to feel like a blind
man. The husband looses his prejudice through the drawing of the cathedral because
Robert guides him, not because he guides Robert.
Robert s being open to new things impresses the husband, and this is evident when
the husband and Robert smoke cannabis together. As the story progresses, the
husband gradually becomes more comfortable with Robert and forgets his
preconceived notions about him. The climax of the story comes in the end when the
husband experiences a revelation about what it is like to be a blind man. Seeing is
believing, or in this case, not seeing is believing.
As the husband starts to explain the cathedral he becomes frustrated because this is
a totally new experience for him and he does not think he is doing well. Then
Robert conveniently says, Terrific. You re doing fine. Never thought anything like
this could happen in your lifetime, did you, bub? Well, it is a strange life, we all
know that. Go on now. Keep it up (Carver 1061). Robert comforts the husband, and he
inspires the husband to be open to new things just as Robert himself is.
During the story, the husband reveals his own realm of darkness when he admits to
Robert, I guess I m agnostic or something (Johnson 282). The husband realizes that
he too is blind in a way. He is blind to

They have no conscience, no empathy, no feelings or remorse. Only apathy. A dark
empty world where the only sense of satisfaction and feeling comes from taking
the life of another. D. What causes this type of behavior? What could make
someone commit such grisly crimes for the sake of mere pleasure? E. Today I will be

Compare Winter Sundays
ВЁThose Winter SundaysВЁ by Robert Hayden and ВЁSnapping BeansВЁ by
Lisa Parker are two different narrative poems that share the same theme. Similarly
both poems consist of a speaker being affected by the relationship they have with
their elders. In ВЁThose Winter SundaysВЁ the speaker tells us about his
hardworking father who takes care of his kids even though he may come off as a
harsh father. The speaker of ВЁSnapping BeansВЁ is a granddaughter who discusses
about the change that she is going through but is afraid to tell the person that raised
her. Therefore this essay compares the two poems with respect to the speaker s
feelings and morals.
In ВЁSnapping BeansВЁ we can understand that the speaker was sheltered by her
grandmother in her youth. As in the poem the grandmother hums What A Friend We
Have In Jesus and expects her granddaughter to sing along as if they have sung the
song together before. However the speakers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the poem the speaker tells us about how his father woke up early on Sundays and
warmed the house so his family can wake up comfortably. We are also told that as he
would dress up and head down stairs he feared ВЁthe chronic angers of that
houseВЁ, which can be some sort of quarrel between his father and his mother in
the house. This can also lead the reader to believe that the father may have had
been a hard dad to deal with. However the father would polish his son s shoes with
his cracked hands that ached. This shows the love that the father had for his son
and now that the son has grown he realizes what his father did for him. The sons
morals and feelings have changed him because as he has grown to become a man he
has learned the true meaning of love is being there for one s family and not expecting
it to be more than what it is. Consequently this teaches him a lesson on how much his
father loved him and how much he regrets not telling him thank

Defining Victory Of The Modern Age Of Warfare
Words Matter: Defining Victory in the Modern Age of Warfare
The United States has not stopped winning wars but the nature of both war and
victory has changed. Adjusting to an evolving geopolitical environment, since World
War II the U.S. has changed the reasons it employs military force and the types of
wars it wages. Taken within the context of the each conflict s era, the U.S. has met
with mixed results in each conflict but ultimately has emerged victorious.
Defining Victory
What is victory? In order to understand victory and defeat it is important to consider
the national objectives that governed each conflict. Since World War II, the U.S. has
participated in five major conflicts (Korea, Vietnam, Dessert Storm, Operation Iraqi
Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan). In each of these
conflicts, the U.S. demonstrated military superiority. However, unlike previous wars,
these wars resulted in mixed results based on the specific political and military
objectives of the time.
Korea initiated the policy of containment that defined the Cold Warstruggle between
the U.S. and the Soviet Union. While the conflict s objectives changed multiple
times, the coalition met the initial objective to prevent the spread of communism on
the Korean Peninsula. In Vietnam, while the aim was the same the results were very
different. The U.S. was unable to force a political compromise that prevented the fall
of Democratic South Vietnam.
In contrast to Korea and Vietnam,
A Short History Of Self Esteem
A Short History of Self Esteem
The history of self esteem can be traced back throughout time. In this section we
have a critical look at the self esteem movement. Though an overweening conceit of
our own merit be vicious and disagreeable, nothing can be more laudable than to
have a value for ourselves, where we really have qualities that are valuable . . . it is
certain that nothing is more useful to us, in the conduct of life, than a due degree of
pride, which makes us sensible of our own merit, and gives us a confidence and
assurance in all our projects and enterprises.

century Scottish Enlightenment thinker David Hume shows, the idea that it is ... Show

Seligman argues that the 1960s changed all this. First the rise of wealth and
consumerism meant that it was easier to conceptualise the individual at the centre of
his/her destiny. And psychology, partly as a result of Seligman s own learned
helplessness experiments, created theories which put the self directed individual at
the centre of his or her own life. The rise of the self esteem movement From the late
1960s on self esteem became a fashionable and influential idea. One of the first
exponents was a young psychology professor called Stanley Coopersmith from
California. A more influential figure was Nathaniel Branden. Branden was a
psychotherapist and devotee of the philosopher Ayn Rand. He has written countless
books on self esteem and is considered the intellectual father of the self esteem
movement. As we shall see in another section, Branden s work is sophisticated and
his definition of self esteem, and notions of how it can be boosted, is a far cry from
the exhortations to feel special that have come to characterise self esteem building
exercises in American schools.
Self esteem may simply have remained a psychological and philosophical concept,
debated by academics, if it had not been taken up by politicians in California in the
late 1980s. John Vasconcellos was a state assemblyman who believed that low self
esteem was the cause of crime, teenage pregnancy, drug abuse and
Demographic Differences Between Miami And New York
The city of Miami and the city of New York are two cities of great importance for
the United States. The differences between these two cities are very imprecise. Both
have several differences in terms of population, transport and climate.
As for the population, New York is the most populated city in the United States, with
an estimated population in 2005 of 8 213 839.87 This is about 40% of the total
population of the state and a similar percentage of the total of its metropolitan region
. During the last decade, the population of the city has been growing, and
demographers estimate that by 2030 it will reach a total of between 9.2 and 9.5
million inhabitants. In deference to the city of New York, Miami is the forty second
most populous city in the United States. The metropolitan area of Miami, which
includes the counties of Miami Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, has a combined
population of more than 5.4 million inhabitants, being the fourth largest in the
country (behind Chicago) and the largest in the southeast of the United States.30 In

Sustainable Solutions and Dell Computers In this tech driven world, computers, and
electronics are the common denominators. Millions of people use computers and
electronic devices multiple times every day. Between innovation and use, the need
to replace these devices is paramount and creates a solid market for certain electronic
manufacturers. One of the biggest environmental concerns is toxic waste and plastics

In the last portion of the paper, various complexity analysis tools are examined in
relation to Dell and the computer/technology industry. The industry was examined in
terms for the Fitness Landscape, Boid Analysis, Industry Evolution Modeling, and
Life Cycle Analysis. Examining Dell in the context of multiple frameworks granted
insights into key factors such as material inputs, resource depletion, byproducts,
waste and disposal options and stakeholder versus societal obligations and
responsibilities. An analysis of the Sustainable Value Framework, including a detailed
analysis of the sustainable value of Dell and its products and services rounds out the
research.
Key Take aways
One critical factor repeatedly presented itself throughout this research project and that
is the absolute necessity for Dell to find a way to innovate in a sustainable manner.
Having Chairman Michael Dell at the helm again is beneficial to the growth and
cohesive vision of the firm, but Dell is losing ground to rivals such as HP in the
areas of technological advances and sales. Another key take away is that Dell leaders
must invest in the training and re educating of employees and invest in the research
and development of products in collaboration with the firm s key suppliers in its
network. Critical to the success
Ngo Dinh Diem And The Vietnam War Essay
This is why, the U.S started to back up and support Ngo Dinh Diem, an anti

In 1955, Diem managed to be the leader of the South Vietnamese government,
declaring the Republic of Vietnam and cancelling the scheduled elections in 1956.
However, his governance proved to be very unpopular, demonstrating corruption and
persecution.
In general, his policies were created to eliminate communists from South Vietnam,
which he referred to as Viet Cong , but resulted in an increase of sympathy for these
communists and led them to form the National Liberation Front (NLF), as a

Kissinger as his national security counsel. Kissinger considered Vietnam as a mistake,
so he recommended the U.S. disengagement. Taking in consideration Kissinger s
advice, Nixon started to gradually pull back a lot of American soldiers from Vietnam
and return the control of the war toward the South Vietnamese ARVN, while
continuing to supply and prepare for the war the ARVN.
Despite the fact that Nixon continued to diminish American troop strength in South
Vietnam, the battling proceeded. In 1972, South Vietnam faced a massive invasion
by the North Vietnamese, but still managed to prevail with U.S. airpower assistance.
In January 1973, were signed the Paris Peace Accords, under which the U.S. forces
were completely withdrawn from Vietnam. However, this did not put the war to an
end, because the war continued until April 1975, when Saigon fell to the communists.
If we would be deciding who deserves to blame for the wars, the first things we need
to do, is to analyze the reason why each of these countries involved joined this war.
The people of Vietnamese started these war, aiming for their independence; firstly
from French, than Japan and then again from France. From this point forward, some
of them continued the war to joint their two nations, while others we fighting against

public it would be more favorably received by the government. The proposition first
explains the situation in America, and the hostility the colonists feel towards the
British government. The writer feels that the hostility is growing and it could lead to
an all out war if something is not done. His suggestion is to increase the number of
British troops in the colonies to stamp out the protests of the colonists. It is the

Moral revelation and redemption seems to be the focus of Flannery O Connor s

religious foundation from which she seems to center her short stories. Although she
is a master at integrating different themes throughout her stories, her dark comedic
style of writing allows her to question one s ability to live a good, proper Christian
life, without inducing hatred or bigotry. O Connor often questions her characters
ethics, morals, and how aware they are spiritually. She brings to light the sinful lives

the Chauvet Caves lies within the artwork depicted upon the walls of its chambers, as

Gender, Gender And Gender Discrimination
Over the ages men have always dominated the workforce since it was their humane
trait to provide for their families. It wasn t until Florence Nightingale revolutionized
the field of nursing by affirming the natural feminine qualities of care, nurture and
gentle. The U.S. is experiencing a slow but steady increase of men within the nursing
profession (Evans, 1997); however, integrating masculine and feminine roles still
poses a big problem. Male nurses consist 9.6% of the nursing population, precipitating
genderinequity (MacWilliams, Schmidt, Bleich, 2013; U.S. Census Bureau, 2013).
Unfortunately male nurses have become victims of discriminatory stereotypes
which deter the recruitment of males into the profession (Meyers, 2003; O Lynn,
2004; Rajacich, Kane, Williston, Cameron, 2013). Barriers of equality are
impeded by the historical origin of modern nursing and to achieve integration in a
feminine dominated field remodeling nursing to include equality for both genders.
Selecting this particular nursing issue was a very dear topic to me since I
constitute the gender minority within my nursing class. Prior to researching this
topic I had evaluated my reason to become a nurse and found that I too struggled to
deal with society s role acceptance as a male nurse. Nursing was not my primary
career choice however after evaluating my career options while factoring marriage I
arrived at nursing. It was not easy telling my friends and family of my plan to

The Assumption of the Virgin
The painting The Assumption of the Virgin has a mannerism influence. Mannerism
was a XVI century art style influenced by, and at the same time a reaction to, the
harmonious ideals of the Italian High Renaissance. Mannerism is notable for its
artificial ( as opposed to naturalistic ) qualities which favor compositional tension and
instability rather than the balance and clarity of earlier Renaissance painting. El Greco
s artistic formation in Rome and Venice, reflects the influence of roman mannerist
designs (e.g Michaelangelo s masterfully polished drawings) and that of the Venetian
school of painting with its emphasis in the richness and variety of colors, the use of
pigments to achieve the impression of depth and brightness,... Show more content on

Sacred religious imagery was justified in the context of this invocation of the Virgin
and the saints. Veneration was not idolatrous because it was referred to the
prototype represented in the image. Among the saints, the Virgin has a primordial
place because she is the Mother of God and the the prime intercessor between Man
and Christ. Since the Virgin s role had been denied by the Protestants, the Catholic
Church responded by emphasizing her special status. In the Assumption of the Virgin
, the Virgin is assumed to ascend to Heaven with her body preserved from corruption
as a reward for her faith and good works. Another determining factor in evaluating a
painting s context is patronage and, in XVI century
Spain, this was largely either religious or monarquic. The monarquic alliance with the
Catholic faith was a salient feature of the Spanish court and, in particular, in the
kingdom of Philip II.
To understand why El Greco ( which means the Greek since he came from Crete )
found his way to Toledo, Spainin 1577, after studying painting in Venice and Rome,
it is essential to realize that Spain, at the time, offered great opportunities for artists,
largely because of the patronage of king Philip II. The King, in particular, favored
painters which followed the Mannerist style. Religious commissions were the
Analysis Of Beowulf And Modern Days
Daryn Viser
Women s Roles in Beowulf and Modern Days
There exists between the Anglo Saxons and modern days a stereotype about
women and their lack of being treated as equals in comparison to men. It is assumed
that while the male characters were out battling monsters in return for honor and
glory, the women lay at home anxiously pacing back and forth for their husbands to
return. Little worth was assumed about them in accordance to man. While
nowadays, no one blinks twice when a woman is offered a job instead of a man.
Equal rights for both genders are essentially guaranteed. However, although the years
lay significant between time periods, women were not treated any more or less
poorly than they are today.
Taken place during the fifth century Middle Ages, the epic poem Beowulfwas a main
reason for why the stereotype was just that for Anglo Saxon women. At first glance,
anyone can see why. Most people believed that women in general were treated less
in the poem because of the little that was said about them (in comparison to
Hrothgar or Beowulf). Wealhtheow, queen of Hrothgar, is a perfect example of the
importance of women in Beowulf. What people fail to comprehend or notice is not
essentially how many lines she consists in, but the significance of her actions. She
was chosen to not only bestow the gifts upon Beowulf when he annihilated Grendel,
but was given the option to select the gifts personally, if deciding to give him gifts at
all. Take delight in this torque,

handed to Radames and Amneris. Two slaves across from me were talking with
Aida. Princess, word of your arrival has spread throughout the Nubian camp. One

The songs roll sweetly across the harvest plain. The tears of Nubia, a passing
aberration. They wash into the river and never cried again.
Aida lifted Nahebka up as together we all sang sadly
The gods love Nubia, we have to keep believing though scattered and divided, we are
still it s heart. The fall of Nubia, ephemeral and fleeting, the spirit always burning
though the flesh is torn apart.
We continued to sing as Aida and Nahebka lifted us up and rose our spirits. Then,
we would go to others and do the same to them hugging and sharing encouraging
looks as we passed.
Take me in my dreams recurring, cheerful as a childhood dance.
Into one more taste of freedom, one more longing backward glance.
The gods love Nubia the beautiful, the golden, the radiant the fertile the gentle and
the blessed.
The pain of Nubia is only of the moment the desolate, the suffering, the plundered the
oppressed.
The music stopped and we turned toward the audience preparing to sing our song in
four part harmony accapella.
The gods love Nubia, we have to keep believing though scattered and divided, we are

The Negative Use Of Social Media
Social media has many unique uses, and is an invaluable tool. While it can be
harmful, and even dangerous, when you understand how to use it and what it
should be used for it can greatly enhance your life. One of the many ways social
media is beneficial is that it can help students who have just graduated from
college find a job. There are hundreds of networking sites out there that a student
can use to get there resume in front of the right people, and even doing something
as simple as creating a blog about your job search and skill set can mean the
difference between getting hired a month after graduation and a year after
graduation. Sites like LinkedIn, Jobster, and Simplyhired are designed to help
people find jobs in all fields. LinkedIn in particular, allows you to upload a resume,
write a personal statement, add a profile picture, and connect with potential
employers, friends who are pursuing a similar career, and family members who
already have a job in the field you are looking in. Students can create a profile on
LinkedIn before they graduate, and include information about internships they
completed while in College, volunteer work they may have done, athletic
involvement, leadership roles they held while in school, and a copy of their current
transcript. This will enable them to get in front of employers early, and hopefully
cause employers to think about their name when it comes time to start hiring. Once
students graduate, they can add information about where
Algonquin Natives In Black Robe
The film Black Robe is set in New France, later known as Quebec in 1634. A young
Jesuit priest and his companion are sent through the wilderness to find the Huron
Mission. They are escorted by the Algonquin Natives. This 1500 mile journey begins
in late fall and continues through the harsh winter, leaving survival seemingly slim to
impossible.
Different PerspectivesThe perspectives of both the Jesuit priest and the Algonquin
Natives are both shown. This film portrays both the Native and White men as human
beings, instead of saints or villains all have their own personal and cultural flaws, but
yet they all act morally correct according to each set of culture beliefs. The Jesuit
priest (Father Laforgue) attempts to bring Catholic faith ... Show more content on

It shows us a time when Christians were convinced of their rightness. I think it also
gives us a deeper understanding as to what the Natives lives were like, the
hardships they went through. I also believe the scenery, the buildings and housing,
and the items the Europeans used to trade with the Natives was shown quite
accurately. As to my personal reaction to the film at first I was on the side of Jesuit
priest, cheering him on his mission, sympathizing with him in his lack of
understanding the environment and the Algonquians their language, rituals and
beliefs. As the movie progressed my opinion changed and I found the priest rather
unforgiving towards Daniels attraction and relationship to Annuka, he seem lacking
in compassion when trying to get his Christian message across and is pretty
adamant and pushy trying to get Chomina to accept Christ when he was dying,
when all Chomina wanted to do was die and peace and be with his people. As a
Christian myself, I actually became rather upset and enraged with how the
Europeans went in with the idea that they were right and the Algonquians were
wrong. I don t think anyone belief system or anyone culture is more correct than
another and that it was pretty arrogant and conceited of the Europeans to believe this
was the case. The Natives had a strong belief system in the earth, wind and spirits, I
don t believe they needed or wanted
The Battle of Vimy Ridge and Its effect on Canada
Contrary to what any believe, the Battle of Vimy Ridge was more than another
bloodshed to Canada as a nation. This battle confirmed Canada s eligibility to
participate on the world stage and that they are not to be trifled with by other nations.
The accomplishments of the Canadian army brought respect from other countries to
Canada. The Canadian army gained confidence in themselves after the victory at the
battle Vimy Ridge The Battle of Vimy Ridge was significant to the growth of Canada
as a nation.

independence was proven after the accomplishments at the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

This offering of France to Canada is a sign of respect as France is willingly giving
land to Canada to thank them for the vitory they brought. As a result of this, Canada
would respected by other nations when they realize how large of a task Canada
attempted and conquered during its first war. Finally, France spent tons of money on
creating a memorial monument for Canada on the land they ceded. After ceding the
land France also spent 11 years and $1,500,000 on a limestone monument as a
poignant reminder of the sixty thousand Canadians who died serving their country
during World War I. By spending the money and time to create a monument for
Canada shows that France has a great deal of respect for Canadians and what they
did during their first attempt at serving their country during their country. The respect
and numerous offerings that France donates in return of Canada s accomplishments
shows Canada of appreciation and respect. It would also show the other nations that
what Canada accomplished on the battlefield f Vimy Ridge was big for a country s
army serving in their first world war. The deeds of which Canada fulfilled during the
Battle of Vimy Ridge brought respect from other countries.
The considerably new Canadian Army at the time, gained confidence after their
victory at Vimy Ridge. Firstly, Canada gained its confidence through their first victory
Csi Miami vs Csi Real Life
For this assignment I chose Double Jeopardy from CSI Miami, season four
episode eighteen. In this episode a husband is found innocent of his wife s murder
just as her missing body is being pulled from the ocean by a fisherman. March 26
Mr. Rowe discovered his wife s racial status and she disappeared on October 5th but
the husband waited 3 days to report her death. During this time he practiced killing
Terisa Matherdy. Losing four twenty lb weight set in the process. The CSI team
must try to find new evidence linking the husband to the deed since he can t be tried
again with the same evidence...as it is considered Double Jeopardy. A little evidence
and timely confessions shows that the husband and his girlfriend did, indeed, kill the

Only in Hollywood would anyone not want or need to protect themselves from an
obvious possible source of disease. She did this twice in this episode, once on the
scene of the found body and again in her lab. Next we see Ryan Wolfe using soft
ware that doesn t exist, have you seen the latest version of windows? Well for those
of you who didn t know the government have to buy from the lowest bidder. So in
order to use any high tech software like this you would need a whole lot of money.
So their group would have to be privately owned by some fat cat or sponsored. The
US Government always uses a soft ware that is one cycle out of production when it
comes to soft ware because you don t have to worry about those oh so annoying
updates. So Ryan Wolfe decrypted a deleted file, yes this is more than possible and
they even show him using Command line Keywords used for Archive, Delete,
Report, and Restore Requests. As a cyber security major I can tell you this is spot
on accurate, so to speak. But a CSI member would not be doing this it would
probably be a computer specialist and not your local CSI member. Also why
would a CSI member even be looking up credit card receipts? They wouldn t, it
would be a detective not Ryan Wolfe. Getting the credit card receipts of a set time
period in less than twenty four hours is also farfetched. From what I was told and
read, CSI rarely interrogate witnesses. Yet in this episode we see at least eight
interrogations
The Gallup Poll
The Gallup Poll
When Gallup conducts a national opinion poll, the starting place is where all or
most Americans are equally likely to be found. That place is in their home, which is
the starting place for nearly all national polling. The actual target audiences, referred
to as national adults , are aged 18 and over, living in telephone households within the
United States. What I don t understand is that Gallup excludes college students living
on campus, armed forces living on military bases, prisoners, hospitalized people, and
anyone else who is living institutionalized. I think these exclusions are unfair. The
article explains that the reasoning for not including the people who live in the places
mentioned above is because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing I found interesting in this article is that Gallup as well as other
major organizations use sample sizes of 1,000 1,500 because these sample sizes are
enough to give a good balance of accuracy opposed to much larger samples which
would be very expensive. I hadn t considered expense when it comes to collecting a
sample but apparently it can be very costly. For instance, if a sample size of 4,000
were selected each time there was a poll, the increase in accuracy would be very
small, and would not justify the increase in cost. Now, I believe this to be true
because I do think that the people behind things like the Gallop Poll are very smart
statisticians and would not lie when it comes to what effects the sample size has on
the accuracy of results. It makes absolute sense to me that specific ways of
measuring the accuracy of samples have been done for many years and the processes
and results have been analyzed thoroughly with each design.
The poll of such a small number of people do not invalidate the results since for
instance, as stated in the article, if the sample size was raised to 2,000 instead of
1,000, for a Gallup Poll there would be a gain of only 1% in terms of accuracy, and
a 100% increase in terms of cost. I can understand that looking at results with a
margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points is reasonable compared to
spending a lot more money and only change the margin of error by

History Of Central Banks Of America Abel Shiferaw Econ 201 Prof Emma Cummings 05/01/2015 History of Central banks in America Even though central banks can improve a nation s economy and are beneficial to governments, the central banks of America had a very controversial history. Even before the establishment of the Federal Reserve, banks were used by the public just as we use them today. Bank notes were in use during this time and they were backed up by the guarantee that they can be traded for either gold or silver on demand. The history of central banking in America dates back to 1781 when the first bank of North America was chartered by the state of Pennsylvania with the help of Robert Morris. It was the first ban k in America s history to receive deposits and issue its own banknotes. Four years later, two more banks were created that also issued their own bank notes: the bank of New York and the Massachusetts bank. (thismatter.com) Some were not very supportive of the formation of a central baking system because of England s efforts to place the colonies under the control of the bank of England while others were strongly in favor of it. As stated in the articles of confederation, congress was given the power to print bills of credit and to establish a national bank similar to the bank of England but objections rose of alarming foreign influence and fictitious credit (Wikipedia.org) that hindered its ability to accomplish its intended role. On February 25 1791, following the bank of North America, the

The two colonies were called the Chesapeake and New England colonies. Even though the two areas were formed and governed by the English, the colonies had similarities as well as differences. Differences in geography, religion, politics, economic, and nationalities, were responsible for molding the colonies. These differences came from one major factor: the very reason the English settlers came to the New World.

This file is of the 1911 edition of The Philosophical Works of Descartes (Cambridge University Press), translated by Elizabeth S. Haldane. Prefatory Note To The Meditations. The first edition of the Meditations was published in Latin by Michael Soly of Paris at the Sign of the Phoenix in 1641 cum Privilegio et Approbatione Doctorum. The Royal privilege was indeed given, but the approbation seems to have been of a most indefinite kind. The reason of the book being published in France and not in Holland, where Descartes was living in a charming country house at Endegeest near Leiden, was apparently his fear that the Dutch ministers might in some way lay hold of it. His friend, Pere Mersenne, took charge of its publication in Paris and wrote to him about any difficulties that occurred in the course of its progress through the press. The second edition was however published at Amsterdam in 1642 by Louis Elzevir, and this edition was accompanied by the now completed Objections and Replies. 1 The edition from which the present translation is made is the second just mentioned, and is that adopted by MM. Adam and Tannery as the more correct, for reasons that they state in detail in the preface to their edition. The work was translated into French by the Duc de Luynes in 1642 and Descartes considered the translation so excellent that he had it published some years later. With respect to revenue diversification, local governments have attempted to diversify their sources of revenue by implementing one or a combination of these taxes: sales taxes, income taxes, game of chance taxes (gambling, races, lotter, and their derivatives), user charge taxes, and sumptuary taxes (cigarettes, alcohol, and their derivatives) (Lee, Johnson, and Joyce, 2013). Now I want to remind Mr. Lincoln that he was at Springfield when that Convention was held and those resolutions adopted. • 13. A commentary of the poem The Broken Tower by Hart Crane A Broken Tower, by Hart Crane, is a metaphor rich poem that is very ambiguous but seems to describe the difficulties of the creative process and the way in which the artist is bound and compelled by it. Crane uses many religious metaphors and references, directly mentioning God and also bells, which are associated with churches. It is possible to interpret the poem in a religious sense, but it could be argued that religion and art are similar metaphors; that, for the poet, his writings are both a method of spiritual expression and a search for truth. The title, A Broken Tower, refers to a continuing metaphor in the poem and suggests the deconstruction of established paradigms which is necessary for artistic progress. Throughout the poem,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is congruent with the need to destroy the tower, or destroy traditional ideas. Supporting the strong visual imagery is the frequent mention of sound: the choir, voices, reveilles and echoes. Imperfection is once again alluded to with the entry of the poet into the broken world in order to trace the visionary company of love, its voice. This seems to directly refer to his creative process in seeking truth and beauty in his writing. It is also the most positive concept expressed in the poem thus far a wholly positive one, rather than the difficult process of destroying the obsolete mentioned before. However, unlike the mighty tower, this voice is an instant in the wind and not for long in other words, transitory. It is also mysterious and beyond the poets control, like the bells in the tower, as the poet admits he know[s] not whither [it is] hurled. Crane makes a more specific reference to his art; his word, as opposed to the Word of that tribunal monarch of the air. The latter belongs to God, who is depicted as powerful and judgemental: the deity of the Broken Tower. This could be seen as a personification of the judgemental ostracism that Crane faced as a homosexual. The God metaphor is expanded on, with mention of Christs wounds pledged once to hope, but also a rejection of it: cleft to despair. In this stanza, Crane offers his word a replacement of the old Tower, symbolizing a

While it represented an obvious step forward from employing hordes of people chugging away on adding machines and carrying stacks of paper all over the place, there was still a great deal of room for improvement. As time passed, computer capacity grew to enable the use of higher level development tools. These allowed people to define and encode business rules without needing to understand everything down to the basic wiring of the machine. True computer languages and programming frameworks followed. Probably the first report generation language was developed in 1959 for the IBM 7090 and known as 9PAC . At the time, storing and accessing structured data on computers was still in its infancy, and some concepts from 9PAC formed key parts of the development of early relational databases. Throughout the 1960s, companies invested in producing proprietary accounting systems tailored to their particular requirements. Jobs would be run in batch mode, often overnight, with only a select few permitted to see or access the computer directly (frequently, this did not even include the programmers!) However, computers continued to grow in capability, and the idea of building one generalized application with flexible features which could be customized to each client s needs became reality in 1973 with the introduction of SAP RF. Therefore this essay compares the two poems with respect to the speaker s feelings and morals. In ВЁSnapping BeansВЁ we can understand that the speaker was sheltered by her grandmother in her youth. As in the poem the grandmother hums What A Friend We Have In Jesus and expects her granddaughter to sing along as if they have sung the song together before. However the speakers ... We are also told that as he would dress up and head down stairs he feared ВЁthe chronic angers of that houseВЁ, which can be some sort of quarrel between his father and his mother in the house. This can also lead the reader to believe that the father may have had been a hard dad to deal with. However the father would polish his son s shoes with his cracked hands that ached. This shows the love that the father had for his son and now that the son has grown he realizes what his father did for him. The sons morals and feelings have changed him because as he has grown to become a man he has learned the true meaning of love is being there for one s family and not expecting it to be more than what it is. Consequently this teaches him a lesson on how much his father loved him and how much he regrets not telling him thank

  • 26. Defining Victory Of The Modern Age Of Warfare Words Matter: Defining Victory in the Modern Age of Warfare The United States has not stopped winning wars but the nature of both war and victory has changed. Adjusting to an evolving geopolitical environment, since World War II the U.S. has changed the reasons it employs military force and the types of wars it wages. Taken within the context of the each conflict s era, the U.S. has met with mixed results in each conflict but ultimately has emerged victorious. Defining Victory What is victory? In order to understand victory and defeat it is important to consider the national objectives that governed each conflict. Since World War II, the U.S. has participated in five major conflicts (Korea, Vietnam, Dessert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan). In each of these conflicts, the U.S. demonstrated military superiority. However, unlike previous wars, these wars resulted in mixed results based on the specific political and military objectives of the time. Korea initiated the policy of containment that defined the Cold Warstruggle between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. While the conflict s objectives changed multiple times, the coalition met the initial objective to prevent the spread of communism on the Korean Peninsula. In Vietnam, while the aim was the same the results were very different. The U.S. was unable to force a political compromise that prevented the fall of Democratic South Vietnam. In contrast to Korea and Vietnam,

In this section we have a critical look at the self esteem movement. Though an overweening conceit of our own merit be vicious and disagreeable, nothing can be more laudable than to have a value for ourselves, where we really have qualities that are valuable . . . it is certain that nothing is more useful to us, in the conduct of life, than a due degree of pride, which makes us sensible of our own merit, and gives us a confidence and assurance in all our projects and enterprises. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seligman argues that the 1960s changed all this. First the rise of wealth and consumerism meant that it was easier to conceptualise the individual at the centre of his/her destiny. And psychology, partly as a result of Seligman s own learned helplessness experiments, created theories which put the self directed individual at the centre of his or her own life. The rise of the self esteem movement From the late 1960s on self esteem became a fashionable and influential idea. One of the first exponents was a young psychology professor called Stanley Coopersmith from California. A more influential figure was Nathaniel Branden. Branden was a psychotherapist and devotee of the philosopher Ayn Rand. He has written countless books on self esteem and is considered the intellectual father of the self esteem movement. As we shall see in another section, Branden s work is sophisticated and his definition of self esteem, and notions of how it can be boosted, is a far cry from the exhortations to feel special that have come to characterise self esteem building exercises in American schools. Self esteem may simply have remained a psychological and philosophical concept, debated by academics, if it had not been taken up by politicians in California in the late 1980s. John Vasconcellos was a state assemblyman who believed that low self esteem was the cause of crime, teenage pregnancy, drug abuse and

It wasn t until Florence Nightingale revolutionized the field of nursing by affirming the natural feminine qualities of care, nurture and gentle. The U.S. is experiencing a slow but steady increase of men within the nursing profession (Evans, 1997); however, integrating masculine and feminine roles still poses a big problem. Male nurses consist 9.6% of the nursing population, precipitating genderinequity (MacWilliams, Schmidt, Bleich, 2013; U.S. Census Bureau, 2013). Unfortunately male nurses have become victims of discriminatory stereotypes which deter the recruitment of males into the profession (Meyers, 2003; O Lynn, 2004; Rajacich, Kane, Williston, Cameron, 2013). Barriers of equality are impeded by the historical origin of modern nursing and to achieve integration in a feminine dominated field remodeling nursing to include equality for both genders. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sacred religious imagery was justified in the context of this invocation of the Virgin and the saints. Veneration was not idolatrous because it was referred to the prototype represented in the image. Among the saints, the Virgin has a primordial place because she is the Mother of God and the the prime intercessor between Man and Christ. Since the Virgin s role had been denied by the Protestants, the Catholic Church responded by emphasizing her special status. In the Assumption of the Virgin , the Virgin is assumed to ascend to Heaven with her body preserved from corruption as a reward for her faith and good works. Another determining factor in evaluating a painting s context is patronage and, in XVI century Spain, this was largely either religious or monarquic. The monarquic alliance with the Catholic faith was a salient feature of the Spanish court and, in particular, in the kingdom of Philip II. To understand why El Greco ( which means the Greek since he came from Crete ) found his way to Toledo, Spainin 1577, after studying painting in Venice and Rome, it is essential to realize that Spain, at the time, offered great opportunities for artists, largely because of the patronage of king Philip II. Analysis Of Beowulf And Modern Days Daryn Viser Women s Roles in Beowulf and Modern Days There exists between the Anglo Saxons and modern days a stereotype about women and their lack of being treated as equals in comparison to men. It is assumed that while the male characters were out battling monsters in return for honor and glory, the women lay at home anxiously pacing back and forth for their husbands to return. Little worth was assumed about them in accordance to man. While nowadays, no one blinks twice when a woman is offered a job instead of a man. Equal rights for both genders are essentially guaranteed. However, although the years lay significant between time periods, women were not treated any more or less poorly than they are today. Taken place during the fifth century Middle Ages, the epic poem Beowulfwas a main reason for why the stereotype was just that for Anglo Saxon women. At first glance, anyone can see why. Most people believed that women in general were treated less in the poem because of the little that was said about them (in comparison to Hrothgar or Beowulf). Wealhtheow, queen of Hrothgar, is a perfect example of the importance of women in Beowulf. What people fail to comprehend or notice is not essentially how many lines she consists in, but the significance of her actions. She was chosen to not only bestow the gifts upon Beowulf when he annihilated Grendel, but was given the option to select the gifts personally, if deciding to give him gifts at all. This offering of France to Canada is a sign of respect as France is willingly giving land to Canada to thank them for the vitory they brought. As a result of this, Canada would respected by other nations when they realize how large of a task Canada attempted and conquered during its first war. Finally, France spent tons of money on creating a memorial monument for Canada on the land they ceded. After ceding the land France also spent 11 years and $1,500,000 on a limestone monument as a poignant reminder of the sixty thousand Canadians who died serving their country during World War I. By spending the money and time to create a monument for Canada shows that France has a great deal of respect for Canadians and what they did during their first attempt at serving their country during their country. • 47. Csi Miami vs Csi Real Life For this assignment I chose Double Jeopardy from CSI Miami, season four episode eighteen. In this episode a husband is found innocent of his wife s murder just as her missing body is being pulled from the ocean by a fisherman. March 26 Mr. Rowe discovered his wife s racial status and she disappeared on October 5th but the husband waited 3 days to report her death. During this time he practiced killing Terisa Matherdy. Losing four twenty lb weight set in the process. The CSI team must try to find new evidence linking the husband to the deed since he can t be tried again with the same evidence...as it is considered Double Jeopardy. A little evidence and timely confessions shows that the husband and his girlfriend did, indeed, kill the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only in Hollywood would anyone not want or need to protect themselves from an obvious possible source of disease. She did this twice in this episode, once on the scene of the found body and again in her lab. Next we see Ryan Wolfe using soft ware that doesn t exist, have you seen the latest version of windows? Well for those of you who didn t know the government have to buy from the lowest bidder. So in order to use any high tech software like this you would need a whole lot of money. So their group would have to be privately owned by some fat cat or sponsored. The US Government always uses a soft ware that is one cycle out of production when it comes to soft ware because you don t have to worry about those oh so annoying updates. So Ryan Wolfe decrypted a deleted file, yes this is more than possible and they even show him using Command line Keywords used for Archive, Delete, Report, and Restore Requests. As a cyber security major I can tell you this is spot on accurate, so to speak. But a CSI member would not be doing this it would probably be a computer specialist and not your local CSI member. Also why would a CSI member even be looking up credit card receipts? They wouldn t, it would be a detective not Ryan Wolfe. Getting the credit card receipts of a set time period in less than twenty four hours is also farfetched. From what I was told and read, CSI rarely interrogate witnesses. Yet in this episode we see at least eight interrogations
  • 48. The Gallup Poll The Gallup Poll When Gallup conducts a national opinion poll, the starting place is where all or most Americans are equally likely to be found. That place is in their home, which is the starting place for nearly all national polling. The actual target audiences, referred to as national adults , are aged 18 and over, living in telephone households within the United States. What I don t understand is that Gallup excludes college students living on campus, armed forces living on military bases, prisoners, hospitalized people, and anyone else who is living institutionalized. I think these exclusions are unfair. The article explains that the reasoning for not including the people who live in the places mentioned above is because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another thing I found interesting in this article is that Gallup as well as other major organizations use sample sizes of 1,000 1,500 because these sample sizes are enough to give a good balance of accuracy opposed to much larger samples which would be very expensive. I hadn t considered expense when it comes to collecting a sample but apparently it can be very costly. For instance, if a sample size of 4,000 were selected each time there was a poll, the increase in accuracy would be very small, and would not justify the increase in cost. Now, I believe this to be true because I do think that the people behind things like the Gallop Poll are very smart statisticians and would not lie when it comes to what effects the sample size has on the accuracy of results. It makes absolute sense to me that specific ways of measuring the accuracy of samples have been done for many years and the processes and results have been analyzed thoroughly with each design. The poll of such a small number of people do not invalidate the results since for instance, as stated in the article, if the sample size was raised to 2,000 instead of 1,000, for a Gallup Poll there would be a gain of only 1% in terms of accuracy, and a 100% increase in terms of cost. I can understand that looking at results with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points is reasonable compared to spending a lot more money and only change the margin of error by
