Interconnecting devices
 Interconnecting devices are devices that
allows one computer device to
communicate with other computer
devices.
Router
 Router is used to connect a wireless
device to a network without using
cables.
 Also allows users to share data on the
internet and also finds the fastest path
for data to travel.
Switch
 Switch is a devices used to create a
network.
 A switch has an internal address table,
called the CAM table, what is uses to
send data to its destination, by using
their Mac address.
CAM table
 The CAM table is a table within the
switch that records all mac address from
the network.
 If it does not have the mac address it
broadcast the data and when it receives
a reply it records the mac address.
 The CAM is stored in the switch’s RAM
what is volatile, meaning if the switch is
turned off the data is all lost.
Hub
 Hub is another device used to create a
network.
 However unlike the switch it can’t read
Mac address, so the data is sent to all
devices on the network, the one its
going to would accept it, while the others
decline it.
Bridge
 Bride is a device used to connect two or
more LAN networks together.
 The Bridge records the source
destination of all the data received.
Wireless access point
 Wireless access points connects
wireless devices to LAN network.
 However it does not provide IP address
or have firewalls, like the router does,
but it does lock out those who don’t
have wireless key.
