Computer Network
A computer network is a digital telecommunication
network which allow nodes to share resources.
“Two or more computers connected together”
What are Networking Devices?
 Networking devices are component used to connect
computers or other electronic devices together so that they
can share files or resources like printers or fax machine.
Devices used to setup a Local Area network (LAN) are the
most common type of network devices used by the public. A
LAN requires a hub, switch, router, etc.
 Network devices are also called Communicating devices.
Networking Devices
 NIC (Network Interface Card)
 HUB
 Switch
 Bridge
 Router
 Modem
A nodes is a basic devices or data point on a large network.
Devices Such as personal computer, cell phone, are node.
When defining nodes on the internet a node anything that
has an ip address.
Nodes
Switch
A network Switch is a computer networking devices that connects
network segments.
 Switches can perform error checking before forwarding data, which are
very efficient by not forwarding packets that error-end or forwarding
good packets.
 Switches can support both layer 2(based on MAC address) and layer
3(based on IP address) depending on the type of switch.
 Communicate in Full duplex mode.
Usually, large networks use switches instead of hub to connect
computers within the same subset.
Router
 A router is connected to two or more data lines from
different networks. When a data packet comes in one of
the lines, the router reads the address information in the
packet to determine its ultimate destination.
 A data packet is typically forwarded from one router to
another through the networks that constitute the
internetwork until it gets to its destination node.
 Best path selection.
 Work on third layer(network layer).
 It contain a routing table in which all information
about the address of connected networks.
Router
Advantages of router
 Router can function LAN & WAN.
 Router can connect different media.
 Router can define best path for data to reach
the destination.
 Router can filter the broadcasts.
BEST OF LUCK
THANKS EVERYONE
