What Is The Hunger In Nigeria
Jocelyn Bennett
Instructor Williamson
ENG III
8 December 2017
The Hunger in Nigeria The world s hunger is ridiculous. There is more fruit in a rich man s shampoo
than on a poor man s plate (The World S). Nigeria consists of 186 million people and of those 450,000
are malnourished children (Nigeria). A malnourished child is one not receiving the appropriate amount
of nutrients in their system. In America, this can be from eating a substantial amount of unhealthy
food or from not eating enough.. Unfortunately, the situation in Nigeria is strictly not obtaining
enough food or any at all. Nigeria is only one of many that need help in getting food to its people.
Therefore, the number of people with an inadequate amount of food in Nigeria is increasing due to
conflict and needs to be decreased due to it causing a variety of diseases and making it easier for
viruses to spread throughout the country. The question the whole world has been asking is why the
amount of Nigeria s malnourished population has increased. It all begins with a group named Boko
Haram. Boko Haram is a group similar to ISIS and has been capturing multiple cities throughout
Nigeria. The group is making it extremely difficult for the natives to continue their farming, as well as
their everyday life. The Nigerian government has been trying extremely hard to gain control of their
cities once again (Conflict). However, there have been many times where Nigeria was too late. Boko
Haram has harmed and killed over 100,000 people in Borno alone.(Nigeria) The group has managed
to force over two million people to relocate their lives elsewhere within the region of Nigeria. This can
be referred to as internally displacing someone (Tukur). Nigeria has been trying it s hardest to
recapture the sites taken, especially Borno. Unfortunately, Boko Haram hasn t been stopped yet and
the number of malnourished natives is rapidly increasing.
According to Inland Valley Daily, each day, about 29,000 children worldwide die from hunger and
preventable diseases such as malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and acute respiratory infections
(Guerrero). The malnutrition in Nigeria may not seem like such a problem; however, it is a major one.
The Nigerian population cannot grow

A Laboratory Small Auxiliary Power Unit ( Apu ) Engine...
1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Assessment aims
The aim of the current work lies in accomplishing a laboratory small Auxiliary Power Unit (APU)
engine practice, including the collection of the test data and achieving an engine performance
simulation and diagnostic analysis.
To carry out the analysis, it is necessary to develop the engine model and taking into account the
measurements from the test in order to derive a coherent model.
1.2 Engine description
An APU is a small gas turbine engine that provides secondary power to the airplane. This power is
used to start the main propulsion engines and provide pressurized air for aircraft environmental
control systems, electrical power for lighting, avionics and galleys on the ground and backup and
emergency power in flight. [1]
The APU investigated, GTCP30 92, consists of the following systems and assemblies:
Gearbox
Enclosing housing assembly incorporates an integral oil tank sump.
Housing assembly, supporting the assembly bearing carrier and incorporates cast fins for cooling.
Single stage centrifugal compressor
Single stage turbine
Torsion shaft which connects the compressor turbine shaft to the gear train.
Intake and an inlet screen before the compressor.
Single combustion tube.
Lubrication system
Fuel system
Electrical system.
The below figure shows part of these devices. Figure 1.1: Main engine components.[2]
The operation of the GTCP30 92 gas turbine is similar to other gas turbines. It incorporates a check

The Organ Of Organ Transplantation
One of the most significant issues concerning organ transplantation revolves around the just and fair
distribution of organs. Due to the assorted and occasionally conflicting opinions of what constitutes as
fair , in concurrence with a relative shortage of donated organs, many social, legal and ethical
contentions have arisen. This shortage is portrayed by statistics shown on the NHS organ donation
page, where approximately 10,000 people are on the waiting list for a solid organ transplant and
approximately 1,000 people die annually whilst waiting for an organ transplant and in 2013, a record
4,655 patients received a solid organ transplant (National Health Service, 2014).
Furthermore, it is important to observe the fact that the organ donor deficit is growing, even factoring
in the 50 percent increase in live donations since 2008. This deficit can be attributed to the rate of
increase in donated organs falling short of the greater increase in transplant requiring patients. This
can be further illustrated statistically where the number of people requiring organs has increased from
approximately 8,700 to approximately 10,000 between 2005 and 2013 (National Health Service,
2014). There are a myriad of contributing factors that can be held responsible for the rise in required
organs, including the prevalence of diseases inflicted through lifestyle choices i.e. obesity and
smoking, as well as improved medical science resulting in an aging population. Additionally, there are

Key Avant-Garde Movements Of The Twentieth Century
Key avant garde movements, including Suprematism, Constructivism and Futurism, influenced
contemporary political graphics of the twentieth century. Particularly focusing on political and
propaganda posters of the Soviet Union it is evident they were influenced by avant garde movements
that were developing in neighboring and western countries during the same period. Suprematism,
focusing on basic geometric shapes with a limited range of colours is evident in numerous propaganda
posters in Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century. Constructivism, developing from Russian
Futurism is aimed to create works that would make the viewer an active viewer. Futurism also
influences the posters in a way that allows them to illustrate futuristic and abstract things as well as
many posters containing qualities of cubism. Being influenced by these movements it gave the
Russian government a way to show they weren t old fashioned and were able to keep updated with the
developing countries around them.
Futurism is the most important Italian avant garde movements of the twentieth century. Celebrating
the advanced technology and urban modernity the world was quickly developing, futurism aimed to
demonstrate the beauty of the machine, speed, violence and change. It allowed artists and designers to
communicate with an audience in a new way that wasn t so traditional. This was particularly helpful to
Russia during the time of the revolution because accompanying a new outlook on politics

Essay about Fraser Company
Problem Statement
Columbia Plastics division of Fraser Company, the major manufacturer of skylights in the Pacific
Northwest, is facing a severe competition from Vancouver Light which has just announced a further
price cut of 10%. Alice Howell, president of the Columbia Plastics is unsure of which options to
implement 1) cut the prices at a level that just cover the costs, or 2) continue the current pricing policy
and lose market leadership. Fraser is facing the erosion of its market share.
Situation Analysis
Background, objectives and environment assessment

Weaknesses
Columbia lacks a strategic management plan linking its resources to its market opportunities.
It lacks thorough understanding of its target market (the needs of the present and future customers).
It lacks continuous improvement in its production process in order to reduce production costs.
(Columbia s production cost is higher than that of competitors.) Opportunities
Market development: Columbia can develop new markets to sell its current products. (for example,
expansion to California, Mid Western states and international markets)
Product development: Using the plastic moulding skills, it can develop new or improved products that
will appeal to the customers (for example, improved skylights to reduce heat loss).
Threats
The competitor is cutting its price to a level that Columbia cannot match.
Columbia is steadily loosing its market share to the competitor (at a rate of 1,000 units per year).
Market and competitive analysis
Total sales of skylights are 45,000 units per year, primarily in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and
Montana. The sales of skylights have levelled off in recent years. Prior to the advent of Vancouver
Light, Columbia had about a 70% share of this market. Colombia also occasionally sells a large order
to California, with a loss or break even to fill slack in the

Iontophoresis In Physical Therapy
Iontophoresis is one of many modalities used in Physical Therapy. The method behind Iontophoresis
was first described in 1747 when two well know scientist, Galvani and Volta put together the
knowledge that electricity can move different metal ions and that movements of ions can produce
electricity. Over time, transdermal administration of drugs has grown and found its place in modern
medicine. Two methods of transdermal administration are passive and active. Passive administration
uses a non ionized drug that passes through the semi permeable membrane of the skin. Consequently,
due to the fact that the skin is semi permeable, only a small amount of the drug molecules penetrates
the skin. In contrast to non ionized drugs, ionized drugs do not penetrate and generally not considered
suitable for transdermal application. However, when combined with an external source of energy such
as a direct low level electrical current, ionized drug are quite effective at reaching the tissue. The
principle behind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The electro osmosis is what produces that bulk of the motion of the solvent that carries ions or neutral
charges with the solvent stream. Many drugs can be delivered via iontophoresis however in Physical
Therapy, two main drugs are used, Dexamethasone and lidocaine. Another drug is acetic acid. The
theory behind the treatment is that the negative polarity of the electrode is used to promote the
penetration of the negatively charged Dexamethasone phosphate ion through the skin. In contrast, a
positive charge promotes penetration of the lidocaine ions through the skin. For iontophoresis, the
drug delivery electrode should have the same polarity as the polarity as the active ion of the drug
being delivered. In addition, the drug being delivered should be ionized with small or moderate in size
ions and stable in a solution as well as not be effected or altered by the electrical

The Pros And Cons Of School Students In School
In the years after Honig, Congress added emergency exceptions to IDEA permitting school personnel
to immediately remove a student with a disability for up to forty five days to an interim alternative
educational setting (IAES). This immediate removal is permitted if the student committed one of the
following violations on school grounds or at a school function: ■ carries a weapon; ■ knowingly
possesses, uses, sells, or solicits illegal drugs; or ■ inflicts serious bodily injury upon another.
Therefore, when safety is jeopardized, the ten day rule does not need to be followed; the student with
a disability can be removed immediately. Within ten days of that removal, however, the child s IEP
team must meet to conduct the MDR and make a decision regarding the IAES. Additionally, school
personnel are permitted to consider any unique circumstances on a case by case basis when
determining whether to order a change of placement for a student who has violated a code of student
conduct. If the parents disagree with a decision to remove their child from school, they may appeal
that decision to a hearing officer. Similarly, school officials may appeal when they are concerned that
a student s continued presence within the school setting is substantially likely to result in injury to the
student or others. The hearing officer has the authority to either return the student to the placement
from which he/she was removed or order placement in an IAES. During this period, the student

Good Country People Characters
Flannery O Connor s Good Country People is a seemingly two dimensional story based around Hulga
Hopewell, a pessimistic atheist, who lives in an old fashioned country home alongside her mother,
Mrs. Hopewell, some others include the farmhand, Mrs. Freeman, and Mrs. Freeman s two daughters,
Carramae and Glynese. Throughout the story, Mrs. Hopewell, along with the other characters, assert
their views to hulga that good country people are the foundation of living a good life. The story
compares and contrasts these distinctive character views in order to create a more realistic and three
dimensional outlook from the context. After reading over the story a few times, I noticed a lot of
consistency with the underlying meanings that the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of looking down on her for getting involved with every one s business, Mrs. Hopewell looks at
this as a positive quality by letting her be responsible for everything around the house. When it comes
to her treatment toward Hulga however, Mrs. Hopewell seems to lack a certain sense of sympathy; for
example, when she would ask Hulga for help in the fields, she would tell her If you can t come
pleasantly, I don t want you at all . This suggests an obvious intolerance for her negative behavior. The
relationship between Hulga and her mother seems to be that of a disobedient child and her intolerant
mother. Regardless of Hulga s accomplishments, Mrs. Hopewell still seems incapable of getting past
her negative attitude. For example, she believes college did nothing to break her out of her shell even
though Hulga went through years of school to get her Ph. D in Philosophy. Mrs. Hopewell claims she
can t brag about her daughter being a philosopher because philosophy ended with the Greeks and
Romans . On top of her school accomplishments, Mrs. Hopewell also finds a problem with Hulga s
name change. At the age of 21, Hulga got her official name changed from Joy , which obviously upset
her mother as she believed that Hulga looked through the dictionary for the ugliest name imaginable;
she even went as far as to say she thought of the broad blank

The Importance Of Animals And Animal Life
As years go by, the population of humans increase, with the expansion of humans more land is needed
to provide shelter and other necessities. Yet, humans do not comprehend that they also must consider
the animals and plants lifestyle. Nowadays, people do not recognize the damages they do to society.
As each year passes, each person s changes the way they think and contributes a domino effect. When
trees are cut down and other landmarks are used to build supermarkets or hotels, humans are taking
away homes of those creatures and their food supply to survive. Humans unknowingly and knowingly,
at times relocate animals to various locations and that animal must change its habitat to be able to
survive, thinking it will be for the better. Not understanding that humans have done wrong in
unbalancing the ecosystem and what disaster come along with the trouble they started. Jack Ewing in
Monkeys are made of Chocolate provides the reader with useful information about what has been
going on with the planet and how people can change their mindsets, when will mankind accepts the
fact that if they do not learn the knowledge of what actions must be taken to provide a better lifestyle
for Earth, humans will die along with the plants and animals.
Humans tend to live a wasteful lifestyle and do not think much of what can be done to benefit
themselves and Earth. People can always switch to small wind generators to receive their power
instead of using the power plant electricity or can also

Crooked Nose Research Paper
Crooked Nose
There are two procedures which are usually involved in the correction of a crooked nose. These
procedures include septoplasty, which is performed to improve or alleviate an airway obstruction, and
rhinoplasty, which is done to improve the external appearance of the nose. These two procedures may
be done individually, or together, depending on the needs and desires of the patient. Then the
physician can, if necessary, surgically realign the nasal septum to improve the air flow, and, if desired
by the patient also improve the cosmetic appearance of the nose.
The surgery, which may take anywhere from one to three hours, is usually performed on an outpatient
basis under local or general anesthesia. A small splint will be attached to the outside of the nose and
should be worn for approximately one week. The final appearance of the nose is not apparent for six
to twelve months because normal healing takes place gradually. Generally, insurance will cover a
procedure to improve or alleviate an airway obstruction, but not a procedure to improve the external
appearance of the nose. For a patient who has both septoplasty ... Show more content on

closed sinus openings which prevent adequate drainage of the sinuses. The new specialized techniques
which have been recently developed use tiny endoscopes, to relieve specific blockage for the nasal

Who Followed The Papacy Of The Western Roman Empire
In the year 476 A.D, the Christian era of the Western Roman empire came to a close. What followed
would be a series of Germanic Kingdoms such as the Visigoths, Angles, and Saxons. These kingdoms,
like most budding nations, founded their own unique political systems, laying the groundwork for
future European nations. Although these kingdoms were deemed independent , they still found
themselves under the jurisdiction of the Church. This subjected them to the political model of the
Church, and by extension Rome.
The first pope to recognize the full potential of the papacy was Leo the Great. In his two decades of
servitude, he planted the seeds of Christian control to come over the next millennia in asserting the
pope s authority over other bishops by the power of the keys, granted by Jesus to Peter. In doing this
Leo the Great positioned the pope as the sole arbiter in holy matters, establishing the position as that
of enormous spiritual power. With the collapse of Roman authority in the West, the papacy found itself
well positioned to take a lead in temporal affairs as well. The Church had already demonstrated its
ability to exert spiritual authority over the ruling class, but this opened the door for more diplomatic
controls. When Rome was threatened by Attila the Hun, it was Pope Leo the Great who is credited
with persuading Attila to turn back short of Rome. Whatever the truth of his role was, Leo had set a
precedent for the broader role of the papacy in secular dealings.

Social Construction, Organic Solidarity And Culture
In my eighteen years of living, I ve been conforming to the societal norms set for me. Ranging from
the career path I m taking to simple everyday activities, society has impacted all aspects of my life.
Sometimes we fear going against what is normal for us to do because of the consequences that might
happen. Ironically, most people do not fully understand that these norms have been pushed on them,
but they continuously follow them day to day. The majority of what affects our daily lives is
socialization, with the addition of social construction, organic solidarity and culture (Giddens, A.,
Duneier, M., Appelbaum, R., Carr, D., 2014). In every attempt to break free from the chain put upon
us by these societal norms, we only dig ourselves deeper into what society wants from us. Recently I
ve attempted to dig deeper into how the high demands of society has affected me personally and I ve
realized that it started from the time that I was born. Ideally, one needs to understand the cultural turn
in their lives to understand how everything surrounding them in their daily lives (Giddens, 2014, p.

the idea of what I would turn out to be. Instead, they focused on putting me in fluffy, pink outfits and
imprinting me with femininity. They focused on showing me Disney movies with female leads that
depended on men to save them and whisk them away to a life of luxury. There was a strong

History Of The Clayton Antitrust Act
When Woodrow Wilson was inaugurated in 1913, he stated in his address that, We shall deal with our
economic system as it is and as it may be modified, not as it might be if we had a clean sheet of paper
to write upon (First Inaugural Address, online). He did just that when he passed the Clayton Antitrust
Act in October 1914. The Sherman Antitrust Act was passed in 1890, but it was very vague in the way
it described monopolies (Clayton Antitrust Act, online). Big business took advantage of the loopholes,
which diminished competition (Clayton Antitrust Act, online). Although Roosevelt and Taft
successfully busted about 150 trusts, big businesses continued to grow and our entire economic system
remained in the hands of a few men (Taft Biography, online; T. Roosevelt Section 8, online; Clayton
Antitrust, online). Wilson requested Congress to modify the Sherman Antitrust Act, and the Clayton
Antitrust Act was born (Clayton Antitrust, online). It is An Act To supplement existing laws against
unlawful restraints and monopolies, and for other purposes (HR 15657, online). The Sherman Act
simply declared monopolies illegal, while the Clayton Act declared activities linked with monopolies
to be illegal (Clayton Antitrust Act, online). Such activities include mergers and acquisitions that are
intended substantially to lessen competition, or to tend to create a monopoly (HR 15657, online). The

Salaries And Compensation Packages Should Be Regulated
1. Introduction
Currently, there is an increasing argument about whether CEOs salaries and compensation packages
have become excessive, consequently, should be regulated. According to the High Pay Centre (n.d., as
cited in, West, 2016) and the Tim Bush (n.d., as cited in, West, 2016), chief executives from FTSE 100
received a salary of £4.96m a year which is 180 times more than the average UK employees . This
essay argues that the compensation and salaries for chief executives are excessive, therefore, should be
regulated. In this essay, the reasons for why CEOs compensation is excessive will first be argued, then
the stakeholders power and influences on companies performances will be discussed.
1. Excessive compensation
It is believed that there has been an extraordinary growth of CEOs salaries in recent years, which
could lead to an excessive compensation (Mishel and Davis, 2015). It could be augured that the high
pay for CEOs is simply a reflection of the market for skills (Bebchuk and Fried, 2004, as cited in
Mishel and Divis, 2015). Kaplan (as cited in Mishel and Divis, 2015), who published an economic
research working paper in 2012 claimed that the high salary for CEO is not unique, as other groups
with similar backgrounds have also seen a dramatic growth in their salaries. For example, the salaries
for corporate lawyers and hedge fund investors have also increased significantly. As a result, the rising
CEOs pay might be a result of a competitive market for

The Success Of A Company
INTRODUCTION
Defining a successful organisations is a difficult task with a lot of variables that have to be considered.
The outcome of a company s strategies targeting to achieve specific goals cannot always be translated
and be acknowledged as being successful. This paper is focusing on what success is for a company,
the different areas that a company can achieve success, regarding the goals that are set, and through
Coca Cola s sustainability report will try to demonstrate which and how performance indicators are
used to form a successful organisation.
DEFINE SUCCESS
To define or measure success, firstly the organisational purpose must be decided. The purpose of a
company is not always to become more profitable. Profit provides the organisation with the capability
to compensate stakeholder s expectations. As the corporations operates within society it should be also
be concerned with societal issues and become more social responsible. Many argue that, financial
success of an organisation benefits society, by providing new placements, upgrading the status of the

Tridacna Research Paper
Variables of Tridacna isotopes as environmental indicators. Ontogeny, zooxanthella symbiosis, trace
elements, seasonality and relative living depth.
Abstract (In progress)
Isotopic profiles of mollusks provide insight to the biology of fossil and living specimen and the
conditions under which they live in. Isotopic profiles record seasonal variance in temperature, salinity,
dissolved oxygen concentrations and can provide evidence of changes in bio mineralization in
correlation with seasonality and ontology. The shells of Tridacna are beneficial for Pleistocene
paleoceanography isotopic studies because of their large size making it easier to gain detailed samples
of shell carbonate. The density of the shell better preserves original carbonate of the shell.
Introduction to Tridacna
The reef dwelling giant clam or Tridacna is one of the genuses that survived the waves of Paleozoic

It was also found that the amplitude of δ18O was greater in specimens gathered from shallow water

Analysis Of Merchant Of Venice And Frankenstein
Preconceptions
In both Merchant of Venice, by Shakespeare, and Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, identities, prejudices,
and judgements are constantly put to the test. Shylock and Portia, who originally identify strongly
with their Jewish ancestry are subject to prejudice and judgement, ultimately causing them to change
their concepts of identity to conform to society. Similarly, the Creature is judged for his physical
appearance, causing him to grow angry when he is exiled by society. Both novels seem to suggest that
bias plays a role in determining the relationship between people, even when they have never met
before. These characters are judged, eventually shaping the way they will identify by the end of the
novel, and largely forcing them to change the very way they act and appear. For this reason, in both
Merchant of Venice and Frankenstein, prejudice is used as a tool to stereotype and label people,
eventually causing them to conform and mold themselves to the norms set out for them by society.
Many people are often judged because they are different from the norms society has set for them,
causing them to often be stereotyped into categories. This is especially true in the context of both
novels. Shylock experiences prejudice because he identifies as Jewish, and is often discriminated
against, explaining how someone spat on him, saying, You call me misbeliever, cutthroat dog, And
spat upon my Jewish gabardine, And all for use of that which is mine own (1.3). He

What Is Prejudice In Pride And Prejudice Essay
Pride is the feeling of pleasure and satisfaction that you get because you or people connected with you
have done or got something good; prejudice is an unreasonable dislike of or preference for others.
Pride and Prejudice is one of the most famous love stories. As I barely see a love story with a
derogatory title; it motivates me to start reading this book.
The book cover draws my attention. It is a portrait of a young, poker faced woman. When I open the
book, I find the words are packed and the book is thick. Hence, my first impression of this book is a
monotonous and classic love story with anticipated ending.
This story was set in England during the 18th century. Beginning with this sentence: It is a truth
universally acknowledged that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also proved that my prejudice to this book is wrong. The author, Jane Austen can describe all the
characters vividly. Unlike other love stories, Pride and Prejudice enable the readers to to familiarize
the views of the British society towards marriage and courtship. My initial impression of this book is a
boring love story. However, I find this book touching. Mr. Darcy helped Elizabeth secretly and
showed his love. Originally, Elizabeth said that she will not marry Mr. Darcy even there was no any
man in the world. At last, Elizabeth was impressed and married to Mr.

Death and We Real Cool Essay
Death and We Real Cool
The sluggard s craving will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work (Proverbs 21:25).
The Bible makes a very clear statement in this passage as to how being lazy can be the cause of one s
death. We Real Cool is about seven African American high school dropouts who want everybody else
to think that they are cool. These teenagers explain how they stay out late playing pool, fighting,
sinning and drinking. Though they think they have everybody else fooled, they know themselves that
the destructive behavior they are taking part in will lead to their death. In We Real Cool, Gwendolyn
Brooks uses denotation and sound devices to suggest that although some African Americans may often

The ingenious way Brooks uses denotation in this poem helps explain that although some African
American teenagers may often think of themselves as being cool for dropping out of school, staying
out late, fighting, and drinking they know in actuality that these corrupt things they are taking part of
will lead to a broken, shortened life.
Brooks uses sound devices to suggest that although some African Americans may often think of
themselves as being cool for dropping out of school, which gives them time to engage in sinful
activities will inevitably result in a broken, short life. Brooks uses pauses in the middle of lines called
cesura s to aid in helping the audience see how the brokenness of ideas and sound contributes to the
brokenness felt by these African American teenagers.
We
Lurk late. We
Strike straight.
Here, in lines 5 6, it is obvious when read how the brokenness in the middle of the line contributes to
the meaning of the poem. Brooks also uses run on lines to emphasize in sound the fact that when
African American teenagers decide it is cool to drop out they are beginning a headlong run into death.
The never ending brokenness that is shown by the run on lines gives these misbehaved teenagers an
excuse to sin and

Film Analysis Of The Movie The Bride Of Frankenstein
Making a good movie is easy but making a great movie is hard. As I watched a short clip from the
movie The Bride of Frankenstein I watched how the acting, plot, lighting, camera work, and script all
made this film come to life. This movie was made in 1935 yet it is still so compelling to watch
because it is successful with the important components of a movie. The first thing I noticed about the
short clip was the lighting. As a photographer lighting is the most important thing about pictures and
films. I realized that the whole movie was very dark for the most part. As I watched the short clip I
saw harsh shadows on the background or on their faces which gave a mysterious feeling. As a viewer
it came off creepy, and kept thinking was something about to pop out? The lighting was great when
Pretorius says to Dr. Frankenstein You are responsible for all the murders, there is a dark shadow on
Dr. Frankenstein. As for Pretorius it seems like he has a halo of light around him. I have a feeling that
the lightening in this conversation was intentional. Dr. Frankenstein is looked down, dark, and evil
because he murdered people. While in this same conversation it seems like Pretorius is the good guy
in this situation even though they both do not seem very good. All in all, the lighting was very
intentional. If they put soft/ airy lighting in this film, I do not think the message would come across
and it would not be as interesting than it was. Acting and script go hand on hand

Theme Of The Graveyard Book
CORE The Graveyard Book (Neil Gaiman)
In The Graveyard Book , the author, Neil Gaiman conforms to the conventions of fantasy genre, by
making the novel have a deep and much hidden meaning, which the reader may not identify at first
glance. However, Neil Gaiman also subverts from the conventions of fantasy genre, because of the
reversal in roles of traditional characters, in typical fantastical stories. The Graveyard Book by Neil
Gaiman, is a children s fantasy novel. This book is about a boy, named Nobody (Bod) Owens, who is
taken in, raised and educated by supernatural inhabitants of a graveyard, after his family was
murdered by the man Jack . How and why Neil Gaiman chooses to conform to and subvert from the
fantasy genre, will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clear examples of this are Mr and Mrs Owens, who are ghosts, but still agree to take care of Bod.
Mrs. Owens and her husband have taken the child under their protection. It will take more than just a
couple of good hearted souls to raise this child. It will, said Silas, take a graveyard. This quote shows
that although Mr and Mrs Owens are ghosts, they can still be kind and loving towards others. Another
character in The Graveyard Book , who has an unordinary characteristic, compared to traditional
fantasy characters, is Silas, who is a vampire, but nonetheless, looks after and provides for Bod, as his
guardian. This shows how Neil Gaiman s book subverts from traditional characters, because in typical
fantastical stories, supernatural characters, such as ghosts and vampires, are constantly portrayed as
having a bad or evil nature. In The Graveyard Book , Neil Gaiman most likely subverted from the
fantasy genre, to make his book original and unique, rather than to follow the conventional story line.
Another reason as to why Neil Gaiman subverted from the fantasy genre, is to show a pleasant and
friendly side to supernatural characters, which are often portrayed as evil. This is because most readers
have the common mindset, that creatures such as vampires and ghosts must be

Religion in Handmaids Tale Religion is the opiate of the masses by Karl Marx. This is a quote which
states that religion controls the human mind because God can see everything at all times, all seeing,
and unlike the police or the government nothing can be hidden from God. This is the technique of
control that is used in Gilead. The punishments given from the government and from religious
societies are different. The government gives punishments as time in prison or fines which can only
last the humans lifetime. This can only happen if it proven in court and there are many ways to escape
the punishments as bribing the judges. In the other hand Religion has more effect in the humans mind

A Description of Formula SAE
Preface:
When a few university professors got together 20 years ago to start a very informal SAE student
design competition then known as Mini Indy, I doubt that any of them expected their efforts would
change the world of motor racing and the lives of thousands of young men and women. Today this
program, renamed Formula SAE ®, has become the world championship for college engineering
students, and the training program for race car engineers and designers around the world. Teams from
as far away as Korea, Japan and Mexico travel to the suburbs of Detroit each May for the big event.

It also comes from stories shared with me by many different teams. Much of this is a subjective
interpretation of my experience in the management end of a Formula project. I am human and fully
capable of missing something. I expect people will disagree with some of the ideas presented. The
opinions expressed are my own and do not reflect those of any organization I am now or have been
affiliated with. Part I: Organizational Topics Where to Begin: The natural inclination of any FSAETM
group is to begin by focusing on what car to build. While it is important to be thinking about design
issues and ideas, in the early meetings you will probably not be able to create a definitive plan. Unless
you have designed and built complete automobiles before, you should not make definitive decisions
yet. There will be plenty of dialog and thought given to the car design without making it a priority yet.
Students usually think the biggest problems will be technical. We embark on an FSAE project with
grand visions of a fast, exciting racecar and can t wait to get started designing and building it. What
you find out right away, particularly if you are in a leadership position, is that the largest problems to
overcome have less to do with actual hands on design, construction, and driving of

Complications Of The Transcontinental Railroad
Do you ever wonder what make our country so great? What events lead up to what we are today? The
United States has many different ups and downs but one has an upside and a downside. I m talking
about the Transcontinental Railroad. The Transcontinental Railroad was the first railway to go across
the country. One of the complications of the railroad was that the government forcefully moved the
Native Americans to reservations. Ways they got natives to go to the reservations was though taking
their land, killing buffalo, and forcefully taking them. To the settlers manifest destiny was more
important than Indian lives. They took Native land to make to make what they thought was more
important(Doc 3). By taking the Natives land they are giving them a chance at owning the land and
citizenship. But many of the Native people didn t have the money to buy the land they live on. Ways
they killed buffalo was the tracks stopped them from migrating, the settlers killed them for sport, and
trains hit them. The Indians kept harassing the train workers to try and get them to stop building the
track so the buffalo can migrate (Doc 2). By killing buffalo the natives would starve and have no
reason to stay there. But not all of the effects of the railroad are bad. Some of the good effects are
people didn t have to go around the continent to go to California. Before they had to go around the tip
of Central America. Another positive is that it gave thousand of immigrants jobs, both Irish and

Minimum Legal Drinking Age
Young adults drinking under the age of 21 only has negative impacts on today s society and will only
get worse by lowering the minimum legal drinking age. Currently, the legal drinking age in the United
States is 21 years old and it should stay that way. Reason being, that only positive results have come
from making the minimum legal drinking age 21. These positive results include lower costs, less
alcohol related car crashes, and avoiding other dangers like unwanted pregnancy and young adults
being unable to defend themselves while under the influence of dangerous characters. At the age of

Underage drinking actually costs the United States a lot of money. In 2007, underage drinking cost the
U.S. $68 billion or $1 for every single drink consumed (Haynes, Melodee). You may ask, how can this
be? Well to get to our total of $68 billion, first, there are the medical bills from accidents related to the
consuming of alcohol underage which totaled to about $7.4 billion. Also, $14.9 billion from income
loss and $45.7 billion from pain and suffering which totals to $68 billion, the total amount of money
spent towards this issue (Haynes, Melodee). Since lowering the drinking age will increase car crashes,
insurance rates will rise because of higher premiums from traffic accidents or convictions for driving
under the influence. Other things that may cost you money are the unwanted pregnancies from teens
being drunk and having unprotected sex. This will either lead to an abortion, which costs money, or
you will need to take care of the baby, which can cause an endless amount of money. Also, the child
could be born with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) which would add even more expenses for treatment.
The treatment for sexually transmitted diseases that you may also get from having unprotected sex
costs a significant amount of money. Lastly, the largest expense of them all is the life of a

Dante s View Of The Circles Of Sins In The Third Circle Of...
Yes, Dante does view some sins as being a lot worse than others but in my opinion this is because he
can relate to the sins that they are being punished for. He also thinks that the sinners are not being
punished accordingly in some of the circles of Hell. I believe myself that in most of the circles of Hell
the sinners are being justly punished for their sins, but there are a couple where the punishment does
not correlate with the sins committed. In the first circle of Hell, which is Limbo , is where non
christians and people who weren t baptized are eternally punished living in a castle away from God.
This is a just punishment because they hadn t had God in their lives on earth. In the second circle of
Hell, Lust , people who were lustful are punished by being eternally blown around in violent storms.
This makes sense because it symbolizes their emotions being calm. In the third circle of Hell,
Gluttony , is where those who indulge themselves on earth are punished by Cerberus, a worm monster,
and they live forever in an icy rain and can t see the others around them. This makes sense because
they only care about themselves. In the fourth circle of Hell, Greed , people who were greedy are
punished by having to roll rocks around. This however does not make sense because what do rocks
have to do with greed? In the fifth circle of Hell, Anger , is where people who were angry are
punished by being trapped in a big river called styx, fighting each other to get to the top. This
punishment too is one that they must face for an eternity. In the sixth circle of Hell, Heresy , is where
people who are guilty of committing heresy go. They are punished by being kept in flaming tombs for
eternity. In the seventh circle of Hell, Violence consists of three parts or rings. The outer ring is one
where murderers can be found as well as those who caused any damage to property or people. In this
one is punished by being sunk into a fiery boiling river of blood. I believe that this makes sense
because of those they have caused harm to, being the blood in which they are drowning or being sunk
in. In the middle ring is where suicides are. These suicides are being punished by being turned into
trees as well as bushes. They

It was here that Galula implemented for the first time their knowledge of COIN.
Galula theory is based on the support of the population. This is divided between an active minority
supporting the insurgency, an active minority who would be willing to support the force or forces that
promote measures COIN, and finally, a large majority of the population passive . The aim of COIN
operations would therefore gain the support of the active minority that is potentially in their favour, so
that this in turn get mobilized the passive majority of the population against the insurgent group.
Besides military measures to reduce and eliminate the insurgent forces, for the author it is essential to

groups have developed in that area, and replace it forces an interim basis to ensure the necessary

academics has been controversial. Two main features can be identified, the insurgent character of its

A keyword (hashtag) used tweets
The best way to separate a tweet s topic into categories and to search for other tweets about these
topics is to use a hashtag. It is necessary to put the pound sign (#) before the word or phrase without
using any spaces or punctuation to create a hashtag. When a hashtag is tweeted, it automatically
becomes a clickable link that if somebody clicks on that, he is directed to a page which includes all the
most recent tweets that contain that specific hashtag. For example, if #newcastleUniversity or
#NewcastleUniversity is typed in the search box at the top of the Twitter page, all tweets under the

The Film Shawshank Redemption We Learn About A Man Who Is...
In the film Shawshank Redemption we learn about a man who is an educated, professional banker by
trade, who finds himself in a situation in which he chooses to secretly follow his beautiful wife
knowing she is having an affair with the golf pro who works at their country club. One evening, Andy,
the banker, decides to bring a gun along with him as he follows his wife and the golf pro. He stops at a
couple of bars and proceeds to become inebriated. Andy is clearly a man whom by all means would be
considered a respectable person in society and follows the particular norms of that time until he begins
to make choices to differentiate himself from the folkways and mores of any expectations regarding
the laws that had been established for the purpose of structure, order and conformity. By all accounts
we see Andy s character reflecting certain choices of conformity in which he clearly represents
behavior and appearance that follows and maintains a particular standard and acceptance of a group.
As we learn further in the story we must also consider the factors of behavior that reflects deviance.

  • 2. What Is The Hunger In Nigeria Jocelyn Bennett Instructor Williamson ENG III 8 December 2017 The Hunger in Nigeria The world s hunger is ridiculous. There is more fruit in a rich man s shampoo than on a poor man s plate (The World S). Nigeria consists of 186 million people and of those 450,000 are malnourished children (Nigeria). A malnourished child is one not receiving the appropriate amount of nutrients in their system. In America, this can be from eating a substantial amount of unhealthy food or from not eating enough.. Unfortunately, the situation in Nigeria is strictly not obtaining enough food or any at all. Nigeria is only one of many that need help in getting food to its people. Therefore, the number of people with an inadequate amount of food in Nigeria is increasing due to conflict and needs to be decreased due to it causing a variety of diseases and making it easier for viruses to spread throughout the country. The question the whole world has been asking is why the amount of Nigeria s malnourished population has increased. It all begins with a group named Boko Haram. Boko Haram is a group similar to ISIS and has been capturing multiple cities throughout Nigeria. The group is making it extremely difficult for the natives to continue their farming, as well as their everyday life. The Nigerian government has been trying extremely hard to gain control of their cities once again (Conflict). However, there have been many times where Nigeria was too late. Boko Haram has harmed and killed over 100,000 people in Borno alone.(Nigeria) The group has managed to force over two million people to relocate their lives elsewhere within the region of Nigeria. This can be referred to as internally displacing someone (Tukur). Nigeria has been trying it s hardest to recapture the sites taken, especially Borno. Unfortunately, Boko Haram hasn t been stopped yet and the number of malnourished natives is rapidly increasing. According to Inland Valley Daily, each day, about 29,000 children worldwide die from hunger and preventable diseases such as malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and acute respiratory infections (Guerrero). The malnutrition in Nigeria may not seem like such a problem; however, it is a major one. The Nigerian population cannot grow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Laboratory Small Auxiliary Power Unit ( Apu ) Engine... 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Assessment aims The aim of the current work lies in accomplishing a laboratory small Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) engine practice, including the collection of the test data and achieving an engine performance simulation and diagnostic analysis. To carry out the analysis, it is necessary to develop the engine model and taking into account the measurements from the test in order to derive a coherent model. 1.2 Engine description An APU is a small gas turbine engine that provides secondary power to the airplane. This power is used to start the main propulsion engines and provide pressurized air for aircraft environmental control systems, electrical power for lighting, avionics and galleys on the ground and backup and emergency power in flight. [1] The APU investigated, GTCP30 92, consists of the following systems and assemblies: Gearbox Enclosing housing assembly incorporates an integral oil tank sump. Housing assembly, supporting the assembly bearing carrier and incorporates cast fins for cooling. Single stage centrifugal compressor Single stage turbine Torsion shaft which connects the compressor turbine shaft to the gear train. Intake and an inlet screen before the compressor. Single combustion tube. Lubrication system Fuel system Electrical system. The below figure shows part of these devices. • 4. The Organ Of Organ Transplantation One of the most significant issues concerning organ transplantation revolves around the just and fair distribution of organs. Due to the assorted and occasionally conflicting opinions of what constitutes as fair , in concurrence with a relative shortage of donated organs, many social, legal and ethical contentions have arisen. This shortage is portrayed by statistics shown on the NHS organ donation page, where approximately 10,000 people are on the waiting list for a solid organ transplant and approximately 1,000 people die annually whilst waiting for an organ transplant and in 2013, a record 4,655 patients received a solid organ transplant (National Health Service, 2014). Furthermore, it is important to observe the fact that the organ donor deficit is growing, even factoring in the 50 percent increase in live donations since 2008. This deficit can be attributed to the rate of increase in donated organs falling short of the greater increase in transplant requiring patients. This can be further illustrated statistically where the number of people requiring organs has increased from approximately 8,700 to approximately 10,000 between 2005 and 2013 (National Health Service, 2014). There are a myriad of contributing factors that can be held responsible for the rise in required organs, including the prevalence of diseases inflicted through lifestyle choices i.e. obesity and smoking, as well as improved medical science resulting in an aging population. Additionally, there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Key Avant-Garde Movements Of The Twentieth Century Key avant garde movements, including Suprematism, Constructivism and Futurism, influenced contemporary political graphics of the twentieth century. Particularly focusing on political and propaganda posters of the Soviet Union it is evident they were influenced by avant garde movements that were developing in neighboring and western countries during the same period. Suprematism, focusing on basic geometric shapes with a limited range of colours is evident in numerous propaganda posters in Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century. Constructivism, developing from Russian Futurism is aimed to create works that would make the viewer an active viewer. Futurism also influences the posters in a way that allows them to illustrate futuristic and abstract things as well as many posters containing qualities of cubism. Being influenced by these movements it gave the Russian government a way to show they weren t old fashioned and were able to keep updated with the developing countries around them. Futurism is the most important Italian avant garde movements of the twentieth century. Celebrating the advanced technology and urban modernity the world was quickly developing, futurism aimed to demonstrate the beauty of the machine, speed, violence and change. It allowed artists and designers to communicate with an audience in a new way that wasn t so traditional. This was particularly helpful to Russia during the time of the revolution because accompanying a new outlook on politics ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about Fraser Company Problem Statement Columbia Plastics division of Fraser Company, the major manufacturer of skylights in the Pacific Northwest, is facing a severe competition from Vancouver Light which has just announced a further price cut of 10%. Alice Howell, president of the Columbia Plastics is unsure of which options to implement 1) cut the prices at a level that just cover the costs, or 2) continue the current pricing policy and lose market leadership. Fraser is facing the erosion of its market share. It lacks thorough understanding of its target market (the needs of the present and future customers). It lacks continuous improvement in its production process in order to reduce production costs. (Columbia s production cost is higher than that of competitors.) Opportunities Market development: Columbia can develop new markets to sell its current products. (for example, expansion to California, Mid Western states and international markets) Product development: Using the plastic moulding skills, it can develop new or improved products that will appeal to the customers (for example, improved skylights to reduce heat loss). Threats The competitor is cutting its price to a level that Columbia cannot match. Columbia is steadily loosing its market share to the competitor (at a rate of 1,000 units per year). Market and competitive analysis Total sales of skylights are 45,000 units per year, primarily in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. The sales of skylights have levelled off in recent years. Prior to the advent of Vancouver Light, Columbia had about a 70% share of this market. Colombia also occasionally sells a large order to California, with a loss or break even to fill slack in the

  • 8. Iontophoresis In Physical Therapy Iontophoresis is one of many modalities used in Physical Therapy. The method behind Iontophoresis was first described in 1747 when two well know scientist, Galvani and Volta put together the knowledge that electricity can move different metal ions and that movements of ions can produce electricity. Over time, transdermal administration of drugs has grown and found its place in modern medicine. Two methods of transdermal administration are passive and active. Passive administration uses a non ionized drug that passes through the semi permeable membrane of the skin. Consequently, due to the fact that the skin is semi permeable, only a small amount of the drug molecules penetrates the skin. In contrast to non ionized drugs, ionized drugs do not penetrate and generally not considered suitable for transdermal application. However, when combined with an external source of energy such as a direct low level electrical current, ionized drug are quite effective at reaching the tissue. The principle behind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The electro osmosis is what produces that bulk of the motion of the solvent that carries ions or neutral charges with the solvent stream. Many drugs can be delivered via iontophoresis however in Physical Therapy, two main drugs are used, Dexamethasone and lidocaine. Another drug is acetic acid. The theory behind the treatment is that the negative polarity of the electrode is used to promote the penetration of the negatively charged Dexamethasone phosphate ion through the skin. In contrast, a positive charge promotes penetration of the lidocaine ions through the skin. For iontophoresis, the drug delivery electrode should have the same polarity as the polarity as the active ion of the drug being delivered. In addition, the drug being delivered should be ionized with small or moderate in size ions and stable in a solution as well as not be effected or altered by the electrical ... • 9. The Pros And Cons Of School Students In School In the years after Honig, Congress added emergency exceptions to IDEA permitting school personnel to immediately remove a student with a disability for up to forty five days to an interim alternative educational setting (IAES). This immediate removal is permitted if the student committed one of the following violations on school grounds or at a school function: ■ carries a weapon; ■ knowingly possesses, uses, sells, or solicits illegal drugs; or ■ inflicts serious bodily injury upon another. Therefore, when safety is jeopardized, the ten day rule does not need to be followed; the student with a disability can be removed immediately. Within ten days of that removal, however, the child s IEP team must meet to conduct the MDR and make a decision regarding the IAES. Additionally, school personnel are permitted to consider any unique circumstances on a case by case basis when determining whether to order a change of placement for a student who has violated a code of student conduct. If the parents disagree with a decision to remove their child from school, they may appeal that decision to a hearing officer. Similarly, school officials may appeal when they are concerned that a student s continued presence within the school setting is substantially likely to result in injury to the student or others. The hearing officer has the authority to either return the student to the placement from which he/she was removed or order placement in an IAES. During this period, the student ... Good Country People Characters Flannery O Connor s Good Country People is a seemingly two dimensional story based around Hulga Hopewell, a pessimistic atheist, who lives in an old fashioned country home alongside her mother, Mrs. Hopewell, some others include the farmhand, Mrs. Freeman, and Mrs. Freeman s two daughters, Carramae and Glynese. Throughout the story, Mrs. Hopewell, along with the other characters, assert their views to hulga that good country people are the foundation of living a good life. The story compares and contrasts these distinctive character views in order to create a more realistic and three dimensional outlook from the context. After reading over the story a few times, I noticed a lot of consistency with the underlying meanings that the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of looking down on her for getting involved with every one s business, Mrs. Hopewell looks at this as a positive quality by letting her be responsible for everything around the house. When it comes to her treatment toward Hulga however, Mrs. Hopewell seems to lack a certain sense of sympathy; for example, when she would ask Hulga for help in the fields, she would tell her If you can t come pleasantly, I don t want you at all . This suggests an obvious intolerance for her negative behavior. The relationship between Hulga and her mother seems to be that of a disobedient child and her intolerant mother. Regardless of Hulga s accomplishments, Mrs. Hopewell still seems incapable of getting past her negative attitude. For example, she believes college did nothing to break her out of her shell even though Hulga went through years of school to get her Ph. D in Philosophy. Mrs. Hopewell claims she can t brag about her daughter being a philosopher because philosophy ended with the Greeks and Romans . On top of her school accomplishments, Mrs. Hopewell also finds a problem with Hulga s name change. At the age of 21, Hulga got her official name changed from Joy , which obviously upset her mother as she believed that Hulga looked through the dictionary for the ugliest name imaginable; she even went as far as to say she thought of the broad blank ... • 11. The Importance Of Animals And Animal Life As years go by, the population of humans increase, with the expansion of humans more land is needed to provide shelter and other necessities. Yet, humans do not comprehend that they also must consider the animals and plants lifestyle. Nowadays, people do not recognize the damages they do to society. As each year passes, each person s changes the way they think and contributes a domino effect. • 12. Crooked Nose Research Paper Crooked Nose There are two procedures which are usually involved in the correction of a crooked nose. These procedures include septoplasty, which is performed to improve or alleviate an airway obstruction, and rhinoplasty, which is done to improve the external appearance of the nose. These two procedures may be done individually, or together, depending on the needs and desires of the patient. Then the physician can, if necessary, surgically realign the nasal septum to improve the air flow, and, if desired by the patient also improve the cosmetic appearance of the nose. The surgery, which may take anywhere from one to three hours, is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local or general anesthesia. A small splint will be attached to the outside of the nose and should be worn for approximately one week. The final appearance of the nose is not apparent for six to twelve months because normal healing takes place gradually. • 14. Who Followed The Papacy Of The Western Roman Empire In the year 476 A.D, the Christian era of the Western Roman empire came to a close. What followed would be a series of Germanic Kingdoms such as the Visigoths, Angles, and Saxons. These kingdoms, like most budding nations, founded their own unique political systems, laying the groundwork for future European nations. Although these kingdoms were deemed independent , they still found themselves under the jurisdiction of the Church. This subjected them to the political model of the Church, and by extension Rome. The first pope to recognize the full potential of the papacy was Leo the Great. In his two decades of servitude, he planted the seeds of Christian control to come over the next millennia in asserting the pope s authority over other bishops by the power of the keys, granted by Jesus to Peter. In doing this Leo the Great positioned the pope as the sole arbiter in holy matters, establishing the position as that of enormous spiritual power. With the collapse of Roman authority in the West, the papacy found itself well positioned to take a lead in temporal affairs as well. The Church had already demonstrated its ability to exert spiritual authority over the ruling class, but this opened the door for more diplomatic controls. When Rome was threatened by Attila the Hun, it was Pope Leo the Great who is credited with persuading Attila to turn back short of Rome. Whatever the truth of his role was, Leo had set a precedent for the broader role of the papacy in secular dealings. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ranging from the career path I m taking to simple everyday activities, society has impacted all aspects of my life. Sometimes we fear going against what is normal for us to do because of the consequences that might happen. Ironically, most people do not fully understand that these norms have been pushed on them, but they continuously follow them day to day. The majority of what affects our daily lives is socialization, with the addition of social construction, organic solidarity and culture (Giddens, A., Duneier, M., Appelbaum, R., Carr, D., 2014). In every attempt to break free from the chain put upon us by these societal norms, we only dig ourselves deeper into what society wants from us. He did just that when he passed the Clayton Antitrust Act in October 1914. The Sherman Antitrust Act was passed in 1890, but it was very vague in the way it described monopolies (Clayton Antitrust Act, online). Big business took advantage of the loopholes, which diminished competition (Clayton Antitrust Act, online). Although Roosevelt and Taft successfully busted about 150 trusts, big businesses continued to grow and our entire economic system remained in the hands of a few men (Taft Biography, online; T. • 21. Salaries And Compensation Packages Should Be Regulated 1. Introduction Currently, there is an increasing argument about whether CEOs salaries and compensation packages have become excessive, consequently, should be regulated. According to the High Pay Centre (n.d., as cited in, West, 2016) and the Tim Bush (n.d., as cited in, West, 2016), chief executives from FTSE 100 received a salary of £4.96m a year which is 180 times more than the average UK employees . This essay argues that the compensation and salaries for chief executives are excessive, therefore, should be regulated. In this essay, the reasons for why CEOs compensation is excessive will first be argued, then the stakeholders power and influences on companies performances will be discussed. 1. Excessive compensation It is believed that there has been an extraordinary growth of CEOs salaries in recent years, which could lead to an excessive compensation (Mishel and Davis, 2015). It could be augured that the high pay for CEOs is simply a reflection of the market for skills (Bebchuk and Fried, 2004, as cited in Mishel and Divis, 2015). Kaplan (as cited in Mishel and Divis, 2015), who published an economic research working paper in 2012 claimed that the high salary for CEO is not unique, as other groups with similar backgrounds have also seen a dramatic growth in their salaries. This paper is focusing on what success is for a company, the different areas that a company can achieve success, regarding the goals that are set, and through Coca Cola s sustainability report will try to demonstrate which and how performance indicators are used to form a successful organisation. DEFINE SUCCESS To define or measure success, firstly the organisational purpose must be decided. The purpose of a company is not always to become more profitable. Profit provides the organisation with the capability to compensate stakeholder s expectations. As the corporations operates within society it should be also be concerned with societal issues and become more social responsible. Many argue that, financial success of an organisation benefits society, by providing new placements, upgrading the status of the area they operate and paying more taxes accordingly to their profit. As Milton Friedman argues, the purpose of an organisation is to maximize profit, and through the company s financial success show social responsibility, as society can also be benefit from it. Abstract (In progress) Isotopic profiles of mollusks provide insight to the biology of fossil and living specimen and the conditions under which they live in. Isotopic profiles record seasonal variance in temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen concentrations and can provide evidence of changes in bio mineralization in correlation with seasonality and ontology. The shells of Tridacna are beneficial for Pleistocene paleoceanography isotopic studies because of their large size making it easier to gain detailed samples of shell carbonate. The density of the shell better preserves original carbonate of the shell. • 24. Analysis Of Merchant Of Venice And Frankenstein Preconceptions In both Merchant of Venice, by Shakespeare, and Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, identities, prejudices, and judgements are constantly put to the test. Shylock and Portia, who originally identify strongly with their Jewish ancestry are subject to prejudice and judgement, ultimately causing them to change their concepts of identity to conform to society. Similarly, the Creature is judged for his physical appearance, causing him to grow angry when he is exiled by society. Both novels seem to suggest that bias plays a role in determining the relationship between people, even when they have never met before. These characters are judged, eventually shaping the way they will identify by the end of the novel, and largely forcing them to change the very way they act and appear. For this reason, in both Merchant of Venice and Frankenstein, prejudice is used as a tool to stereotype and label people, eventually causing them to conform and mold themselves to the norms set out for them by society. Many people are often judged because they are different from the norms society has set for them, causing them to often be stereotyped into categories. This is especially true in the context of both novels. Shylock experiences prejudice because he identifies as Jewish, and is often discriminated against, explaining how someone spat on him, saying, You call me misbeliever, cutthroat dog, And spat upon my Jewish gabardine, And all for use of that which is mine own (1.3). This movie was made in 1935 yet it is still so compelling to watch because it is successful with the important components of a movie. The first thing I noticed about the short clip was the lighting. As a photographer lighting is the most important thing about pictures and films. I realized that the whole movie was very dark for the most part. As I watched the short clip I saw harsh shadows on the background or on their faces which gave a mysterious feeling. As a viewer it came off creepy, and kept thinking was something about to pop out? The lighting was great when Pretorius says to Dr. Frankenstein You are responsible for all the murders, there is a dark shadow on Dr. Frankenstein. As for Pretorius it seems like he has a halo of light around him. I have a feeling that the lightening in this conversation was intentional. Dr. Frankenstein is looked down, dark, and evil because he murdered people. While in this same conversation it seems like Pretorius is the good guy in this situation even though they both do not seem very good. All in all, the lighting was very intentional. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, is a children s fantasy novel. Another character in The Graveyard Book , who has an unordinary characteristic, compared to traditional fantasy characters, is Silas, who is a vampire, but nonetheless, looks after and provides for Bod, as his guardian. While it is important to be thinking about design issues and ideas, in the early meetings you will probably not be able to create a definitive plan. Unless you have designed and built complete automobiles before, you should not make definitive decisions yet. There will be plenty of dialog and thought given to the car design without making it a priority yet. Students usually think the biggest problems will be technical. We embark on an FSAE project with grand visions of a fast, exciting racecar and can t wait to get started designing and building it. What you find out right away, particularly if you are in a leadership position, is that the largest problems to overcome have less to do with actual hands on design, construction, and driving of ... • 33. Complications Of The Transcontinental Railroad Do you ever wonder what make our country so great? What events lead up to what we are today? The United States has many different ups and downs but one has an upside and a downside. I m talking about the Transcontinental Railroad. The Transcontinental Railroad was the first railway to go across the country. One of the complications of the railroad was that the government forcefully moved the Native Americans to reservations. Ways they got natives to go to the reservations was though taking their land, killing buffalo, and forcefully taking them. To the settlers manifest destiny was more important than Indian lives. They took Native land to make to make what they thought was more important(Doc 3). By taking the Natives land they are giving them a chance at owning the land and citizenship. But many of the Native people didn t have the money to buy the land they live on. Ways they killed buffalo was the tracks stopped them from migrating, the settlers killed them for sport, and trains hit them. The Indians kept harassing the train workers to try and get them to stop building the track so the buffalo can migrate (Doc 2). By killing buffalo the natives would starve and have no reason to stay there. But not all of the effects of the railroad are bad. Some of the good effects are people didn t have to go around the continent to go to California. Before they had to go around the tip of Central America. Another positive is that it gave thousand of immigrants jobs, both Irish and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Minimum Legal Drinking Age Young adults drinking under the age of 21 only has negative impacts on today s society and will only get worse by lowering the minimum legal drinking age. Currently, the legal drinking age in the United States is 21 years old and it should stay that way. Reason being, that only positive results have come from making the minimum legal drinking age 21. These positive results include lower costs, less alcohol related car crashes, and avoiding other dangers like unwanted pregnancy and young adults being unable to defend themselves while under the influence of dangerous characters. At the age of 18, you may be considered an adult, but you do not have all of the rights that a 21 year old holds. Also, with the minimum legal drinking age of 21, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Underage drinking actually costs the United States a lot of money. In 2007, underage drinking cost the U.S. $68 billion or $1 for every single drink consumed (Haynes, Melodee). You may ask, how can this be? Well to get to our total of $68 billion, first, there are the medical bills from accidents related to the consuming of alcohol underage which totaled to about $7.4 billion. Also, $14.9 billion from income loss and $45.7 billion from pain and suffering which totals to $68 billion, the total amount of money spent towards this issue (Haynes, Melodee). Since lowering the drinking age will increase car crashes, insurance rates will rise because of higher premiums from traffic accidents or convictions for driving under the influence. Other things that may cost you money are the unwanted pregnancies from teens being drunk and having unprotected sex. This will either lead to an abortion, which costs money, or you will need to take care of the baby, which can cause an endless amount of money. Also, the child could be born with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) which would add even more expenses for treatment. The treatment for sexually transmitted diseases that you may also get from having unprotected sex costs a significant amount of money. Lastly, the largest expense of them all is the life of a ... Imagine you re stuck prone in the middle of a field and have no cover to get out of the predicament that you re in, then next thing you know you have a tank rolling up alongside of you and they provide cover to get you to safety. Tanks and the crew that operate them are very vital to the ground forces. Their lives most of the time depend on whether or not they can get cover from the tanks or if the tanks can eliminate the targets. The M1A1 and M1A2 Abrams are the most heavily armed vehicles the U.S. ever made which is why the USMC (United States Marine Corp) can rely on them to get the job done. The Abrams Tank has a variety of equipment on it that makes it such an extraordinary weapon of the U.S. It is manufactured by General Dynamics Land Systems, They make all variants of the Abrams tank and all the equipment for it. The M1A1 Abrams tank is equipped with a 1,500 horsepower turbine engine. (Power, Rod) It has a max speed of 45 MPH. Its acceleration 0 20 time is 7.2. • 36. Dante s View Of The Circles Of Sins In The Third Circle Of... Yes, Dante does view some sins as being a lot worse than others but in my opinion this is because he can relate to the sins that they are being punished for. He also thinks that the sinners are not being punished accordingly in some of the circles of Hell. I believe myself that in most of the circles of Hell the sinners are being justly punished for their sins, but there are a couple where the punishment does not correlate with the sins committed. In the first circle of Hell, which is Limbo , is where non christians and people who weren t baptized are eternally punished living in a castle away from God. This is a just punishment because they hadn t had God in their lives on earth. In the second circle of Hell, Lust , people who were lustful are punished by being eternally blown around in violent storms. This makes sense because it symbolizes their emotions being calm. In the third circle of Hell, Gluttony , is where those who indulge themselves on earth are punished by Cerberus, a worm monster, and they live forever in an icy rain and can t see the others around them. This makes sense because they only care about themselves. In the fourth circle of Hell, Greed , people who were greedy are punished by having to roll rocks around. This however does not make sense because what do rocks have to do with greed? In the fifth circle of Hell, Anger , is where people who were angry are punished by being trapped in a big river called styx, fighting each other to get to the top. This punishment too is one that they must face for an eternity. In the sixth circle of Hell, Heresy , is where people who are guilty of committing heresy go. They are punished by being kept in flaming tombs for eternity. In the seventh circle of Hell, Violence consists of three parts or rings. The outer ring is one where murderers can be found as well as those who caused any damage to property or people. In this one is punished by being sunk into a fiery boiling river of blood. I believe that this makes sense because of those they have caused harm to, being the blood in which they are drowning or being sunk in. In the middle ring is where suicides are. These suicides are being punished by being turned into trees as well as bushes. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is divided between an active minority supporting the insurgency, an active minority who would be willing to support the force or forces that promote measures COIN, and finally, a large majority of the population passive . The aim of COIN operations would therefore gain the support of the active minority that is potentially in their favour, so that this in turn get mobilized the passive majority of the population against the insurgent group. Besides military measures to reduce and eliminate the insurgent forces, for the author it is essential to isolate the population of these groups, in order to avoid a possible mobilization of the same against the interests of the COIN. This will require removing the alleged political organization that insurgent groups have developed in that area, and replace it forces an interim basis to ensure the necessary services in the area, and thus add up support within the local population. The Global Jihad was materialized as the 21st century phenomenon, and its understanding by academics has been controversial. When a hashtag is tweeted, it automatically becomes a clickable link that if somebody clicks on that, he is directed to a page which includes all the most recent tweets that contain that specific hashtag. In the film Shawshank Redemption we learn about a man who is an educated, professional banker by trade, who finds himself in a situation in which he chooses to secretly follow his beautiful wife knowing she is having an affair with the golf pro who works at their country club. One evening, Andy, the banker, decides to bring a gun along with him as he follows his wife and the golf pro. He stops at a couple of bars and proceeds to become inebriated. Andy is clearly a man whom by all means would be considered a respectable person in society and follows the particular norms of that time until he begins to make choices to differentiate himself from the folkways and mores of any expectations regarding the laws that had been established for the purpose of structure, order and conformity. By all accounts we see Andy s character reflecting certain choices of conformity in which he clearly represents behavior and appearance that follows and maintains a particular standard and acceptance of a group. As we learn further in the story we must also consider the factors of behavior that reflects deviance. This behavior challenges the norms. Andy has been convicted of violating the norms of everyday life by murdering his wife and her lover and he is arrested for the murder. Although in Andy s court preceding he pled innocence and expressed to the judge that he had not murdered his wife and her lover, maintaining the story that he had sobered himself up and then ...
