Media Coverage On The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War introduced many new forms of technology on and off of the battlefield.
Increased weaponry helped shape the outcome of the war, but media coverage also played a large
role in representing the news and opinions of the war. Viet Thanh Nguyen s The Sympathizer helps
illustrate how the media influences and spreads the opinions of the people during the VietnamWar.
The war media, which includes newspapers, movies, and most importantly television, caters
towards its audience. What the media publishes shapes the public opinion, and the media creates
their stance based on the profit they receive.
The media reports on material that will produce the largest viewership. War coverage is the most
profitable form of news that these news sites cover, so when a war is being fought, they cover
the war almost exclusively to gain a large audience. CNN saved their company from going
bankrupt by exclusively showing coverage of the Iraq War in 1991; now they are a multibillion
dollar business venture. Television media such as CNN and FOX News cover positive stories and
news, but the negative news gains them the largest audience, which translates to the largest
revenue. The primary drive for these media networks is profit and market shares rather than
upholding high journalistic standards. The government knows how popular these shows are during
war and they use these shows to their advantage to sway the public opinions and support of the war.
They can t necessarily control the shows

The Future Of Homelessness In Canada
This article (originally a speech) talks about how homelessness has been an issue in Canada in
the past but is also an issue Canada faces today and how the future of homelessness in its society
depends on the actions taken today. Specific information given in the article includes going back
as far as 1960 with specific examples of how the Canadian government has been dealing with the
issue through the ages. Giving direct quotes from government documents and speeches to statistics,
it is divided to into three main categories: past, present, and future (and further going into sub
categories from there). Relevant issues are discussed such as how some societal issues and global
affairs affect the wealth of Canada and how this can turn into poverty.... Show more content on

For example, the report gives statistics on how many more children live in low income families,
and how factors such as ethnicity, immigration status, disability can change the way poverty
affects the individual s life. This article is organized very well, in a sequential manner in which
one can easily find information relevant to their research by simply looking at the contents list
(and the subheadings listed under different chapters). The introduction is concise and formal,
however there is not a titled conclusion, rather the last section summarizes the points given. This
report does not have a definitive bias as the sections explain what is previously given through
statistics, thus there is is not an evident opinion (other than that poverty should be extinguished.
There are not suggestions for further reading in the report, however the website in which it was
found gave suggestions of other articles related to child poverty. The entire article has an
abundance information that would be helpful to the social issues project, specifically statistics on
how it affects the quality of life of children and ways to overcome the issue of poverty in
Toronto. This report would be very helpful for those who are researching about children living in
low income families, poverty, and solutions to poverty. There are some limitations within the
article for example data collection, especially because there is not official poverty line. More
information on data limitations are given in the appendix. The Hidden Epidemic will contribute to
my project by helping to narrow which subdivision of poverty to focus on and to further understand
how poverty transpires in Canada s most well known

Geography Of The Indus River
Barrett, EmilyPeriod 6 4/30/15
Geography
The Indus River is located on the northwestern part of the sub continent with other rivers draining
into it. Another river called the Ganges River was east of the Indus River. The climate was tropical
and contained seasonal winds called monsoons. Monsoons during the winter were dry and went
from land to the sea, letting little rain fall on the land. During summer monsoons wet winds go
from ocean to land bringing rain with it. The mountain ranges, the Himalayas and Hindu Kush,
were located near the north.
The first civilization in the sub continent grew around the Indus River; later another civilization
grew around the Ganges River. The rivers would flood and this leaves behind rich soils which
makes plentiful crops that fed the civilization. Agriculture depends on the summer monsoon. If rain
comes, there are no problems, but if it comes late or not at all crops die and people starve. Since
they could not always depend on the monsoons they made irrigation channels that led to their crops.
The Himalayas and Hindu Kush separated the sub continent from the rest of Asia. Culture

worn by women. This piece of clothing was long and could be worn in different ways. Rich women

Torture Is Torture
Torture is something all over the world that inflicts punishment and pain on people. The fear of
drowning is something a lot of people have. With this being said, this story is based on a torture
method called waterboarding. Waterboarding was thought of by members of the Special Forces. It
was used in a training called SERE, which means Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape. The
main things needed for this torture is water, and a board of course. This is where it gets the name
waterboarding. The goal of this paper is to insure people that doubt waterboarding is a torture,
because waterboarding is a torture. In Believe Me, It s Torture , Christopher Hitchens describes
waterboarding in order to convince the readers on why it is torture.
In Hitchens s story, the majority of his detail is dedicated to his personal experience. Hitchens
was brave enough to actually forbearance the torture of waterboarding. Hitchens claimed, I was
very gentle yet firmly grabbed from behind, pulled to my feet, pinioned by my wrist (which were
then cuffed to a belt), and cut off from sunlight by having a black hood pulled over my face.
(Hitchens 617). Trained men are implying the very first steps of waterboarding to Hitchens. He
also said, Arms already lost to me, I wasn t able to flail as I pushed onto a sloping board and
positioned with my head lower than my heart. (617). Hitchens has been placed into position to
where he cannot move, or try to fight the integrator s. This is when the

The Gospel Of Luke Pronounces
In the Gospel of Luke, Luke pronounces all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day he was
taken up, after he had given instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles... (Act 1:1 2 CSB).
However, Acts is the account of all that Jesus continued to do and to teach through His apostles by
the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Luke portrays the role of the Holy Spirit as being given to
help accomplish the Great Commission throughout his book. Fernando provides a great outline of
Acts when he states, The first chapter records the promise of the Holy Spirit... the second his
descent, and the rest... his work in and through the church. It could be concluded that Luke s
portrayal of Pentecost demonstrates the larger narrative on how the Church

Cultural Barriers To The Romans
The gospel is the foundation of the faith and without it there nothing. Romans 1:16 states it is the
power of God that brings salvation to everyone that believes .1 There are a lot of churches which
do missions and other fine works but they fail when proclaiming the gospel. They proclaim
portions of which are non offensive to people. Hell will not be talked about, sexual sin never
mentioned or any other type of sin. The need is for healthy churches, who then in turn are more
likely to send healthy mission teams out into the field. The world desperately needs an untainted
gospel. The power of the gospel is the best tool to break down barriers. When the Apostle Paul
wrote Romans, he was crossing cultural barriers, he stated in Romans 1: 14 15 14 I am under
obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians,[d] both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So I am
eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. 2 Paul is a great example of being a
barrier breaker and being unashamed about his faith. Paul faced numerous obstacles, including
persecution , customs and cultural differences. Therefore, this makes him a great example of what
missionaries will encounter.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of I Carry My Heart
A young man is currently in the thicket of love with his significant other. At the drop of a pin
the man would get her anything she could desire, regardless if it is a need or a want. Some
would question why, but it is because it is he who has fallen head over heels for her. For she is
the love his life, his one in a million, the irreplaceable. She is the one who keeps his heart in a
steady rhythmic beat, who brightens his day like the early morning sun. This is relatable for
millions of people in the world today, it is so well known that it could be considered a universal
theme. E. E. Cummings explains a very similar meaning in the poem [i carry your heart(i carry it
in my heart)] . The theme of the poem is that the unity of loveis dangerously powerful when it is
between two in love. Cummings makes this happen through using metaphors, personification, and
repetition.
Cummings uses metaphors throughout the poem to show how much care he has for her. E. E.
Cummings starts the first line of his poem with a metaphor saying i carry your heart with me(i
carry it in my heart) . He uses this metaphor to show that even if he and his lover are far apart, she
will always be on his mind, in his heart, and close to him. E. E. Cummings uses another metaphor
almost immediately after in line 6 saying, for beautiful you are my world,my true . In the use of this
metaphor he is emphasizing that she is that someone you hope to never lose, because you would be
nothing without them. The final

Essay On Dido s Suicide
Beyond what drives Dido to take in the Trojans in their time of need, she is also made sympathetic
through her dealings with Aeneas and the gods specifically, that almost nothing that befalls Dido
during the course of the story is her fault. When she and Aeneas meet, there is instant attraction
between them; Venus, concerned about intervention from Juno, decides to take advantage of the
situation by making Didofall hopelessly in love with Aeneas. In a sense, this can be seen as
beneficial for Aeneas, since he loved her anyway and this prevented any form of reprisal from
Juno or the Carthaginians themselves; however, it also meant that Dido lost any and all control
over herself with regards to her new love and bound her entirely to the whims of the goddess.
Venus words her plan as such: Strike first; take the queen by a ruse, with encircling / Fences of fire

Notably, Dido s suicide brings to light a great contradiction in her behavior. Before Aeneas even
meets Dido proper, we are introduced to concepts that Dido is associated with namely, the building
of a city (a trait she shares with Aeneas; he is fated to build Rome while Dido is rebuilding Carthage
.) On direction from Venus, Aeneas enters Carthage and is taken by the beauty of the artwork
adorning the temple to Juno. Here, in this park, something new first touched him now, and it
gentled / Fears, now Aeneas dared, for the first time, dream of survival...For, while awaiting the
ruler below that huge temple, he took in / All its details, marveling at how the city had
prospered, / Noting the artists skill, the combined success of their labours. (1.450 455) Dido
herself oversees this construction; as such, she is inextricably linked with her city, as her goal,
and for a while Aeneas s too, is to rebuild it. Yet, Virgil writes that her sacrifice left the city itself as
if it were lost forever, its people in

Hades: God of the Underworld Who s Hades? Hades is the son of Kronos and Rhea. Hades is the
god of the underworld or the dead. He was also named Pluton (the giver of wealth) by the people
who preferred calling him that instead of Hades. He received his ruling of the underworld when
they, Zeus and his siblings, locked their father in Tartarus. He was always different than the other
gods, since he preferred the company of spirits. He abducted the daughter of Zeus, Persephone, and
made her eat in the underworld so that she would stay with him. Hades was often seen as a black

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board
The Sarbanes Oxley Act created the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) to
assume the responsibility of overseeing the auditors of public companies. The PCAOB is a private
sector, non profit corporation. It was established to protect the interests of investors and further the
public interests in the preparation of informative, fair, and independent auditreports . (The PCAOB)
Although the PCAOB is a private sector organization, it has many government like regulatory
functions. The PCAOB was created in response to an increasing number of accounting restatements
by public companies during the 1990s and a series of recent high profile scandals like Enronand

Many firms are upset by this rule because of its limitations. However, I believe that this new rule
is a good idea. Previous engagements between firms and clients have been given a large notice
of when the rule will be in effect. They are given plenty of time to finish their engagements. This
new rule may allow small firms more possibilities to increase their clientele. We may be moving
away from having a small number of large firms doing all the services to having many firms
providing the services. Also, Rule 3523 will ensure independence.
Another issue that has arisen since the establishment of the PCAOB is the increased compliance
costs. In 2007, the PCAOB has been awarded a budget of 136,429,000 dollars by the SEC. Of
that amount, 79,514,000 dollars will be used to pay for salaries. (The PCAOB) The PCAOB s
budget is paid by public companies through fees and audit firms through fines. These fines can
reach 100,000 dollars for individual auditors and up to 2 million dollars for audit firms. Many
firms have increased their audit fees due to the increase in costs, partly due to the PCAOB. The
PCAOB continues to grow each year. Their powers and responsibilities continue to grow, which
in turn will lead to a larger budget. The SEC should take into consideration these additional fees
for businesses and auditing firms when they determine the salaries of employees. The average
salary for each employee is over 150,000 dollars, which is a substantial

A Comparison Of The Unites States And Canada s Health...
A Comparison of the Unites States and Canada s Health Care System America has a very
disorganized and fragmented healthcare system while Canada has a very structured and established
system. Since there is no healthcare system in the world that is considered perfect all countries
implement polices that they believe will be the most beneficial for their residents, The United States
and Canada s systems are both constantly being reformed to fit the current needs their residents
however there are strengths and weaknesses for both of the systems.
United States Health Care System and it s Benefits The United States health care system is
considered broken because we do not have one universal system. Within the American system there
are different types of health insurance such as private, group or self insurance. The United States
works on a fee for service system so the providers receive money for every service they provide
therefore the medical bills for Americans are significantly high. Before the Affordable Care Act
was implemented a few forms of government programs were Medicaid, the Children s Health
insurance Program and Medicare. Medicaid and Children s Health Insurance Program were to
help insure the low income citizens and their children. CHIP and Medicaid are both funded by the
government and state but administered by the individual states. CHIP covers children whose
family income is up to 200% of the poverty level. Medicaid insures low income citizens but can also

Alexander The Great s Influence On The World
Alexander the Great Occasionally history shows that the world does not have many people that
could be entered in the history. And Alexander the Great was one of these people. During his
childhood Alexander had great teachers who taught him how to use and how to choose great
politics, diplomacy and, how to win the war if that day would come. For many years Alexander
the Great studied how to control everything and how to be ready to do anything that might be
needed. At the age of sixteen he had to become a king of big kingdom, because his father, Philip,
was in the war with Byzantium. Many people believed in Alexander because they knew that he
was different from other children in his age, he did not care about bodily pleasures or anything
like that, however, he had infinitely ambition which created him a good leader. Alexander
strengthened his position in the power, he tamed people that were trying to make a revolution to
take power in their hands. To get support from wealthy and other people in Alexander s kingdom,
he canceled taxes, and killed other people that might claim for the king s position. Alexander was
a great leader, and had plans to enter the war not only with some kingdoms, but to capture and
control all kingdoms and all lands, to have the great power without a trace. Alexander the Great

Barbary Coast War Essay
The Barbary Coast War We ve finally put those pirates to a stop. It was all hard effort for our
warriors. The cause of this conflict may have been because of how powerful we were after the
revolutionary war. This warfare was along the Mediterranean Sea. For some reason, the Barbary
States, such as Tunisia, Algiers, Morocco, and Tripoli, felt that the American merchant ships should
ve been destroyed. They also felt that the sailors aboard the merchant ships should ve been held
ransom. So as the years continued, they would attack American and European ships which traded

There were many battles on the coast of the Barbary States. One major battle took place on
February 16, 1804, along the Tripoli harbor. The U.S warship Philadelphia began to sink near
the Tripoli coast. Its sailors were already held captive, as the pirates tried to use the ship. There
was about 307 of the sailors who were held captive. There was a great chance that the pirates
were from Tripoli. Lieutenant Stephen Decatur, a well known leading sailor, saw this as a
problem. Even though the pirates had already took the ship, he didn t want them to use
Philadelphia. Lieutenant Decatur decided to burn down the Philadelphia so that it wouldn t be
used by the pirates. The American sailors were still aboard and imprisoned by the pirates as
Decatur burned it down. He had no choice but to destroy the ship led by the cruel pirates. This
was a major battle of the Barbary Coast War and is very popular today. Though it was a major
battle, it wasn t the end of The Barbary Wars. The ending of the wars was a joyful ending. Earlier
this year, a small clan of American marines marched 600 miles through the rough Sahara and
captured Tripoli. This was a major victory that inspired the U.S to have confidence with foreign

Analysis Of Porter s Forces On Apple s Strategic Management
Executive Summary: Michael Porter s five forces model is widely used in strategic management for
analyzing how a firm can generate or consistently maintain competitive advantage (Porter, 2008
p.79.). I chose Apple to analyse Porter s forces on as it has dominated the technology industry and it
is arguably the first to come out with innovative and revolutionary products. Even though Apple s
products are expensive compared to the competitors; Apple makes up for this through reliability and

Supplier power: Apple has around 156 suppliers (Cult of Mac, 2012). The threat of suppliers is
not so severe. There are many organizations operating in the consumer electronics industry, and
they tend to be more elastic with respect to the suppliers power (Apple Inc, 2104). For example;
if a supplier increases its prices, the organisation looks for a substitute as the firm diverts choice.
Suppliers have some sort of power as they provide Apple with highly differentiated materials for
the production process. However, Apple does acquire manufacturing costs, component costs and
labour costs in order to innovate products to supply back to the customers (Apple Inc, 2012).
Furthermore, Apple s brand power, mode of competition and purchasing volumes acquire
intermediate goods and components from suppliers within the organisation as well as outside
(Heracleous, 2013 p.97). Apple practises taper integration where they own retail outlets but also
affiliate with other retailers (Apple Inc, 2012). Buyer power: A threat of buyers is not considered
as a threat to Apple. Firstly, Apple has millions of buyers, inclusive of large and small
corporations. Secondly, Apple s products are unique and differentiated showing the buyer power is
low, and hence reduces price sensitivity (Apple Inc, 2014). Thirdly, price is not the most important

Proserpinas favourite rose of all, however, was one made entirely of rubies and emeralds. The red
rubies made up the petals and the emeralds became the stem and a leaf. It was kept inside of a
large glass case, where only its beauty was allowed. Every morning after Plutobrought Proserpina

rise, and watch her pick flowers through his large window overlooking his land. He was lucky that
she did not know who he was, the God of the Underworld, she only thought he was the king of
diamonds and stones. Plutohad a plan, once he got her to eat something, she would be trapped in
his kingdom forever, his underworld. For now, however, he had to just watch as she deteriorated
from hunger. It wasn t that bad to be brutally honest, he s seen much worse. Since staying there,
Proserpina had vowed not to eat anything that she found, or anything that was given to her. She
was afraid that if she ate anything, it would deprive her of all of her bad memories and make her

Young Asher Lev Research Paper
Imagine, just for a moment, that you are young Asher Lev, son of Rivkeh and Aryeh Lev, two
highly respected members in the Jewish community. Pretend you were born with an
extraordinary talent, one which you deem an incredible and intriguing gift, and think of how you
would feel if your talent were ridiculed by those who you love and respect the most, because
your gift is foolishness from the other side . Would you throw away every trace of your talent and
be the studious child that everyone wants you to be and focus on school and your religious
responsibilities? Or would you continue to let your gift shine? For young Asher Lev, this decision
was incredibly difficult.
In Asher s early years, his life was filled with the love and support that every child needs and
desires. His parents admired his gift and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This death took an immense toll on the family which caused Asher s Mother to become extremely
depressed and sick. For months, Asher s Mother wouldn t leave her room. She wouldn t eat or
dress herself, and she forgot about all her modest responsibilities. Typically, she would wear a
nicely combed wig and wear modest clothing such as a long dress or skirt, but during her time of
grieving, she didn t take care of herself at all. She smoked in the house, she didn t go to the
synagogue and she didn t pray at all. Asher felt the tension in his home and he saw how his mother
lost weight and became extremely ill. He began drawing things that were not pretty or beautiful.
He would draw everything distorted and sometimes Asher would find himself in front of a
drawing filled with black and red swirls and gray eyes and dead birds (Potok, 15). During these
times, Asher would be so frightened of what he drew that he would throw all his drawings in the
bottom of a drawer and jump in bed to pray a prayer out of the Krias

Essay On The Tabernacle
Chapter 7
The Tabernacle of the Old Testament The words tabernacle and temple can be confusing; let me in
a simple way explain the difference. Firstly the tabernacle is the English translation of the Hebrew
word ЧћЦґЧ©ЧЃЦ°Ч›ЦјЦёЧџ mishkan , which simply means residence or dwelling place.
According to the Hebrew Bible this was a portable dwelling place for the presence of God, from
the time of the Exodus to the conquering of the Promise Land (Canaan). In contrast the temple is
the English translation of the Hebrew word Ч”ЦµЧ™Ч›ЦёЧњ heykal , meaning a large public
building. Unlike the tabernacle, the temple was stationary and also called the palace of Jehovah . It
was an elaborately ordained holy place where the people congregated to worship God.
I will focus this chapter on the original tabernacle, which was God s idea, initiative, design and plan
constructed by Moses. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the building of the tabernacle the people came together in obedience to the Word of God given
through Moses. I will not go into the specific measurements of the tabernacle, but I will say its
total square area was 7,500sq.ft. I will explore the three compartments of the tabernacle, the
contents that are within them, and also the connection between the tabernacle and its relevance to
worship in Moses time and how it is symbolic of today s worship.
There are three compartments within the tabernacle: the Outer Court where the brazen altar and
the washbasin are, then walking through a veiled curtain was the Holy Place (also known as the
inner court) where the menorah, the table of showbread and the altar of incense was placed, and
finally the Holy of Holies where the ark of the covenant was found.

opinions and beliefs regardless of their background, to decide for their future, and to preserve the
essence of democracy.
Attention: * Provide a vivid description of people struggling to fight for their voting rights in certain
countries. * Share relevant facts /statistics of how a small number of votes could have change the
course of history in certain countries:
I. In year 1867, one vote gave United States the state of Alaska. The 1867 purchase of Alaska was

* Ask the audience: When people in other countries are struggling to fight for voting rights, why are
we not exercising our rights, wasting it away to nothing?
Need A. Voting allows people to voice out their opinions and beliefs regardless of background.
Voting gives the population an equal opportunity completely blind of sex, race, origin, education in
contributing to community development (Akande, 2011).
B. Voting allows people to decide for their own futures.
If people do not vote, it would lead the country to a very vulnerable and perilous position due to
incompetent and irresponsible leaders. Not voting during an election is voting indirectly against
democracy and making way for irresponsible leaders (Akande, 2011).
C. Voting preserves the essence of democracy.
Voting is the foremost way to exhibit good citizenship and civil responsibility. People should get
involved in elections and educated in all political measures. By this they become good and
responsible participatory citizens. It should always be remembered that some people sacrifice their
lives to preserve the freedom and voting opportunity as a sacred right. True democracy demands the
involvement of the people otherwise in absence of that there is no democracy(Akande, 2011).
Satisfaction: I. If people vote in elections, it would reduce corruption, reduce poverty and
inequalities and lead to a better and more efficient government.

Guided Meditation Essay
With new benefits of meditation being discovered seemingly everyday, more people are being
introduced to meditation in its many forms than ever before. The modern world is fast paced and
a majority of people in the United States report regular or even constant stress or anxiety in their
daily life. This is just one area of life in which meditationcan help. Curious if guided meditation
can help you with your problems, too? Here s more about what guided meditation really is and
what it can do.
What is Guided Meditation?
Meditation is, at its core, a way to help you develop your own inner calmness and tranquility and
it s also meant to help you grow as a person. Meditation isn t something just for hippies or the
spiritual; people of all ages and all walks of life use meditation in one form or another to help them.

concentrate on your breathing and the imagery that s being described for you. Also known as
guided imagery meditation, you will be transported to a peaceful setting where you will see, hear,
feel and taste in your imagination and learn more about yourself and your true purpose.
Group Versus Individual Guided Meditation
There are two primary types of guided meditation sessions: those practiced in a group setting with
an instructor and those done at home, using guided meditation downloads or CDs. Choosing one
over the other depends on your personal preference. Some people may feel more comfortable
learning meditation from an instructor while others get more peace and benefit by doing this alone
in the comfort of their own home.

The Struggle For Equality And Rights During The Civil War
American history was radically changed when President Abraham Lincoln gave the very famous
Emancipation Proclamation. This lead to the freedom of millions of African Americans who
sought the same liberty and equality that was promised to everyone under the United States
constitution. These liberties, of course, were not achieved right away. During the Reconstruction
era, which is the decade right after the Civil War, many of the recently freed slaves did not have
money, property, or credit. They could not buy the necessary things to enjoy their freedom, which
lead to sharecropping, a glorified form of slavery. Sharecropping is a system of agriculture in
which a landowner lets a tenant use the land in return for a share of the crops produced on their
portion of land (Sharecropping).. Added on to this, facilities were segregated to prevent the black
man from enjoying the same things as the white man due to Jim Crow lawswhich were enacted
after the Reconstruction era. The struggle for equality and rights continued during the Gilded Age
(1873 1900), the Progressive Era (1900 1920s), the Great Depression (1930s), WWII (1939 1945),
the beginning of the Cold War (1947), up until the Civil Rights movement (1954 1968). At this
point in history, African Americans fought for their rights and changed the course of American
history. Music was a very important tool used by African Americans that helped achieve this. Ever
since the slavery times, music was a big part of their culture

Description And Analysis Of The Run Time Pattern
Overview: This section describes the interpretation and analysis of the results from both of the
experiments. The analysis is based upon the comparison of the theories against the results of the
experiment, whether the results support or reject the theory. This section consists of the following
analysis: comparison of the run time pattern in three times execution, comparison of the overall run
time using an arithmetic mean approach and error analysis.
Run Time Pattern in Three Executions
MySQL (non cluster) had a stable pattern within three executions, while Hadoop did not. According
to my investigation, it caused by the following reason: I executed MySQL (non cluster) through
SSH window, whereas Hadoop was executed through Ambari client browser. The connection
through SSH did not use Internet public network, while client browser used it. In other words, the
public Internet network only affected client browser.
Based on 10 times bandwidth measurement (appendix F), the Internet speed was unstable. The
Internet speed was unstable because it was a public network. As a public Internet network used by
other people as well, the speed of the network was depending on the high/low network traffic. The
traffic of public network was unpredictable: some users might do heavy activities at one time, and
few seconds later the users did not do anything.
Hence, the instability of public Internet speed caused the instability of the total time taken of
Hadoop s activities. MySQL (non

Student Athletes Are Deserving Of Economic Remuneration
The seven most popular sports (in order) in the United States are: NFL, MLB, NCAAF, auto
racing, NBA, NHL, and NCAAM (Rovell, 2014). Five of the sports included are professional
where the athletes are paid. However, two of them NCAAF and NCAAM are amateur sports
headed by student athletes who are not paid. When these college sports are on par with professional
organizations that are worth billions of dollars, then the amateurism behind the NCAAF and
NCAAM is questioned. In fact, the NCAA generates almost a billion dollars annually. Since the
athletes in question are amateurstudent athletes, paying them might damage the integrity of the
sports. Therefore, there is an ongoing contested debate over whether student athletes are deserving

However, amateurism is an illusion because the NCAA insatiably embrace[s] commercialism in
all facets of intercollegiate athletics except on a single issue athlete compensation (Zola, 2013).
The 1980s is where NCAAM and NCAAF exploded as businesses. The Supreme Court, in 1984,
struck down the NCAA s restrictions on television appearances. This coincided with the government
deregulation of cable television and, ultimately, led to massive television contracts and sports
stations covering NCAAM and NCAAF. As the athletic departments of universities expanded
profoundly, they continued to reiterate the student in student athletes. By doing so, they built the
boundary up as an effective defense from allowing college athletes to get a cut of the newfound
income. In 1988, the NCAA became an effective private institution when the Supreme Court ruled
against Jerry Tarkanian and allowed the NCAA to dismiss due process during their investigations.
Amateurism, in the sake of college football and men s basketball, is a falsehood and a boundary
created by the NCAA and enforced by college coaches and athletic departments. The meaning
behind the category of student athletes was empowered by the NCAA in the 1950s to fend off
lawsuits and implement the sanctity of college sports as amateur sports. The NCAA s moral
authority lies in the term student athlete and is meant to conjure the nobility of amateurism, and the

Erikson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development Essay
Growing up experiencing his own identity crisis and misfortunes during his childhood, Erik
Homberger Erikson, a well known psychologist, used this as an inspiration to further one s
understanding of a healthy personality and sense of self. This gave rise to his successful
establishment of the theory of Psychosocial Development. Although derived from Sigmund
Freud s theory of Psychosexual Development, Erickson believed that a person s social
experiences cause a great impact on their sense of identity throughout their entire lifespan in
eight different stages of development, as opposed to the five stages Freud assumed ended when
a person reaches early adulthood (Cherry. 2016). Erickson theorized that a person s ability to
successfully complete a stage of development, regardless of their developmental challenges,
directly affected the outcome of a healthy or unhealthy personality and sense of self. In his
attempt to exceed further in understanding how a person s social environment affects their
personality and identity, Erikson s findings became great contributions to the study of
psychology. On June 15, 1902, Erikson was born in Frankfurt, Germany, to Karla Abrahamsen, a
Jewish stockbroker, as Erik Salomonsen at birth (GoodTherapy. 2007 16). His mother married his
pediatrician, Theodor Homberger, in 1905, when Erickson was about three years old (The Famous

The German Invasion Of Poland
Introduction The German invasion of Poland on September 1st 1939, was an experimental display
of the most advanced and intense form of warfare the world had ever seen. With such a drastic use
of power and with aspirations expanding so wide, the German Wehrmacht 1, along with the Soviet
Union and a small Slovak contingent, soon escalated a central European battle into a global
conflict. The target of Poland, for such an experiment had been strategically chosen as a
geographical and logistical advantage, a self proclaimed repossession of pre World War one land
ownership, and an eastern front barrier with Germanys newly established pact/ally (via the Molotov
Ribbentrop Pact), the USSR. The concept of Blitzkrieg warfare had been developed by tactical
lessons learned during and most influentially, toward the end of World War One. When combined
with technological innovations developed until the advent of World War two, Nazi Germanywould
possess a devastating brainchild that would eventually grow into the Shock and Awe technique of
combat that we see today.2 The execution of the invasion hailed the Germans with the overall
victory they sought, however their technique of the experiment were far from calibrated. The
invading German army received heavy and unanticipated losses from Polish defenders, even though
Polish defense lines fell within two days of initial invasion. Motivated by the protection of their

Figure Out Weather Earnings Management Is Fraud
Summary
The objective of this research paper is to figure out weather earnings management is fraud.
I included some information of earnings management first. Earnings management is managers
accounting choices. Managers may use different accounting techniques to create some opportunities
within the boundary of GAAP, so that they can make financial statementslook better. I stated the
top 5 techniques of earnings management and relevant examples:
The big Bath
Cookie jar reserves
Revenue recognition
Immaterial
Capitalization practice
Secondly, in order to figure out the relationship between fraud and earnings management, I find
some definition of fraud. It is an intentional conduct and materially mislead financial statements,
which also violate criminal and civil law.
Finally, after understanding the definition of fraud and earnings management, I found that earnings
management and fraud are similar. They all intent to distort financial statement. If we abuse
earnings management, it is easy to fall into fraud. Earnings management is a good point for us to
analyze fraud more, but it is still not a fraud because managers manage earnings within the
boundaries of GAAP. Introduction
The most important role of financial reports is to effectively communicate financial information to
outsiders in a timely and credible manner (FASB, 1984). Earnings are vital in financial statements
because earnings represent the company s value. Investors and creditors always look to

Fast Food Nation By Eric Schlosser
Meat Packers or Criminals Slaughter houses started in urban areas close to the railroads and
shipping ports. Cattle and other livestock arrived by railroad. After the animals were slaughtered,
they would be shipped to meat counters around the country and overseas. In his book Fast Food
Nation, Eric Schlosser writes about the changes in the meatpackingindustry. Among those changes,
Schlosser explains, Iowa Beef Packers (IBP) changed the entire meatpacking industry by turning
the business of slaughtering animals into an assembly line. Meatpacking no longer requires
skilled workers because each employee is only responsible for one small part of the whole;
therefore, training an employee is easy and inexpensive (153). The meat packing... Show more

are doing everything they can to make a living. This includes rotation practices that big companies
would never care about. Small business today is changing from a mentality of all success and
forget about the consequences; to a more earth friendly thought process that asks how the company
can do business longer. Schlosser writes, the small rancher today has more in common with
environmentalist than they do with huge cattle lots and meat packers (134). Small ranchers invest
in the land and need to preserve it to continue just making a living not a profit. Schlosser explains,
Hank was practicing a form of range management inspired by the grazing patterns of elk and

repairs. The advantage of keeping everything in house would be cost effective because the
money is not switching hands instead it is paying for a service to repair the customer s vehicle.
There would not be any ideas on how to scam the insurance company on ways to make the total

Shameless is a Golden Globe nominated show with a white dominated cast. One of the siblings

When it comes to representations of Blacks on television, the 1980s can be seen as a decade of
elevated inclusion both in terms of the quantity and quality of roles which remains the norm
today. (Tukachinsky, Mastro, Yarchi, 2015). Over the years, we will see more shows gearing their
audiences to the black community. Producers add in a few social issues to reel viewers in, but the
fact remains the same that a prime time heavy hitting shows, will most likely have less than 20% of
their cast of African descent. In consonance with researchers, blacks currently constitute between 14

The Sandwich Generation
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to define and address the importance of the Sandwich Generation in
our society. The idea is to introduce you to the term, definition and the participants in this
generation. To show you the statistics without giving the roles, hardships and effects the people
involved in this group would not tell the complete story of this sandwiched generation. I will
conclude with ways to assist the participants to be successful for they too will move on to fulfill a
different role as time goes by.
Although you may think that the name Sandwich Generation is the secession of how the sandwich
came to be after many generations, this is not the case. The Sandwich Generation is defined as a
generation of people, typically in their thirties or forties, responsible for bringing up their own
children and for the care of their aging parents. (Sandwich Generation, 2016). The name
sandwiched was coined in 1981 by a social worker named Dorothy Miller (Miller, 1981), who
was talking about adults that were sandwiched between their children and elderly parents. Even in
the 1980 s this group of people were beginning to be noticed and now making up more than 40% of
the population. (Parker, 2013)

resection surgery that has been performed. Three distinct bowel resections are known to result in
SBS: jejuno ileal anastomosis, jejuno colic anastomosis, and end jejunostomy (3). The adverse
symptoms created by SBS vary based on the type of resection that has occurred, the phase of post

Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech
Al Gore s speech titled Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech is a powerful work of literature which
serves two purposes. The first purpose is stated in the title to accept his award of the Nobel Peace
Prize. The second intent he had when writing the speech was to reiterate his points that awarded
him the honor in the first place. The speech explains his passion for the problem in our world that
is the climate change and how much we pollute our earth. To give a short gist of what his cause
was, the following quote offers much insight to the regretful aspect of our society that he is
passionate about fixing. He says So today, we dumped another 70 million tons of global warming
pollution into the thin shell of atmosphere surrounding our planet,... Show more content on

His call to actions is for us to choose between two futures. He goes on to explain further by
challenging the reader to challenge assumption as well as repetition. Challenging us to question
the repetition that would eminently happen if we don t unify and majorly change our actions.
His persuasion is made very strong and hard hitting when he says we are standing at the most
fateful fork in that path. So I want to end as I began, with a vision of two futures each a palpable
possibility and with a prayer that we will see with vivid clarity the necessity of choosing
between those two futures, and the urgency of making the right choice now. Reading this quote
gives the feeling of being very inspired and feeling empowered. That being said, I feel Gore
should have given more concrete action that he proposes we take. He should have said things
such as we should stop allowing every person to drive a motor vehicle as much as they please. If
he d said something along those lines, it puts a specific concern in mind and helps along the
putting the reality of better, healthier world into fruition. He also could have proposed that
perhaps every person who owns a vehicle be required to plant a tree once a year. His speech was
powerful with lots of drawing of parallels, a lot of analogies, and many accounts of making
associations. While he is lacking a concrete and specific remedy for our current situation, maybe
it is okay. Perhaps all we need is to see that we do have a choice in how we can influence the
world, and the rest is up to us to draw from the inspiration and coordinate our own, personal next
move to attain the goal that has been

Poverty influences
Poverty is one of the main problem in the world, either developed country or developing country.
Poverty both influence developed country, America and developing country, Mexico. In The
Absolutely True Diary of a Part time Indian and The Devil s Highway, they both facing the poverty
issue. Sherman Alexie is telling us about the Indian American living in a hard life and Luis Alberto

Comparing these two story, both Indian and Mexican are poor. Their poverty makes them living
bad. Therefore, Arnold wants to leave the Indian reservation and Mexican wants to migrant to
America. Their common target is to leave poor and achieve goodness. Although their original
attention are familiar, their way to success are painful in different ways. Rowdy is the toughest
kid on the rez. He is long and lean and strong like a snake. His heart is as strong and mean as a
snake, too. But he is my best human friend and he cares about me, so he would always tell me the
truth.
And he is right. Nobody would miss me if I was gone. (Sherman Alexie 32). Arnold has paid his
best friend for leaving Indian reservation. On the other hand, it can be seen that Arnold has made up
his mind to leave the reservation. It is clearly shows that Arnold has endured poverty so much. For
the Mexicans, the blocks before migrant America are much more difficult than they expected.
By way of this letter, I ask forgiveness and pardon for what happed in the Arizona desert, because

Ali strolled in on a colleague, likewise a decent companion that has worked with for as far back

Recollecting the occurrence that happened the last month before, Ali went in into the toilet not
long after he has gone in and a wrapping of diazepam was found. Ali chooses not to let him know

Shel Silverstein Influences
Shel Silverstein is a popular American cartoonist, singer, songwriter, playwright and author. He is
mostly known for his children books including the popular, The Giving Tree and Where the

he criticized the sappy endings of happy children stories. However, he was eventually convinced
by a friend to transform stereotypical children s book and he able to become successful in creating
clever and humorous poems and books.

wrote and they were often directly connected. It wasn t until 1963 that Silverstein actually began
writing things for children. Before this he viewed children literature as too sweet and
condescending with nothing but happy storylines. He was finally convinced to start writing
children s literature after he met a book editor named Ursual Nordstrom who told him he should
just change the things about children s literature that he did not like. And that is just what he did;
he reversed the idiotic stories into more realistic portrayals of human life. At first many people did
not approve of his writings. They thought his stories were too inappropriate for children but also
too simple for adults. He ended up bridging children s literature with adult literature. One of his
biggest influences for writing children books and poems was that he just didn t like that children

The Trials From World War II, South Africa
No one possesses a magic wand which the architects of the new dispensation could wave and, Hey
presto! things will be transformed overnight into a promised land flowing with milk and honey
(Tutu 3). After the apartheid, South Africa needed a way to reconcile the wrong that had taken
place throughout the country. Instead of modeling the Nuremberg Trials from World War II, South
Africaimplemented Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC). This process guarantees pardon
for any confess crime associated with a political objective (Ruden 2). Desmond Tutu, the archbishop
of the Anglican Church in South Africa, praises and advocates the TRC; whereas, Sarah Ruden, an
American living in South Africa, criticizes the RTC process based on two main objective points.
Ruden sees the RTC process as not enforcing the laws as well as not giving victims enough
reparations. While Ruden does present logistical evidence in her negative assessment of the TRC
process, Tutu presents a more convincing assessment of the TRC process since he disputes using a
trial system, while also explaining why economically and socially the TRC process was a
successful solution to the post apartheid society in South Africa.
Initially, Tutu begins his assessment by effectively dismantling the idea that putting perpetrators
from the apartheid area on trial would have been a viable solution. Tutu theorizes that the security
forces of the apartheid regime would not have supported the negotiated

What Are The Disadvantages Of A Subscription Market
Strategic Issue Article Subscription boxes are one of the fastest growing trends in the business
and startup world. The concept is that a customer signs up for monthly home deliveries of items
that they desire. Companies finding success with this strategy include Fabletics and Gentleman
s Box. With the growing interest consumers have for convenience, it makes sense that home
delivered goods would be so popular among consumers. The growth of this industry can be
expected to continue to grow for many reasons, but most likely because of the low barriers to
entry. However, the issue is how is this growing trend impacting retail stores like Banana
Republic and Macey s. Pros: These subscription based companies are quickly taking over the
retail market. The biggest pro for the consumer to a subscription based clothing service is
convenience. These clothing subscription services generally entail clothes picked for you by a
stylist in your selected size, which are sent directly to your door every month. The consumer is
able to try on the items in the comfort of their own home. If they don t like it, they have the
option to send it back. However, if they do like it, then their monthly subscription cost goes
towards any items they decide to keep. If the cost of what they keep is greater than the
subscription service, they charge the consumer s card for the remaining clothes, typically at a
discounted price. On the business side there are a few major upsides to retail based

How Was Imperialism Affected By Great Britain Imperialize...
Imperialism is the act of country trying to control a different country. Imperializing is basically
a type of government trying enlarge its size either by forcing in through war, or by influencing
through politics (Vocabulary.com). Great Britain was involved in many cases of imperializing
other countries. They were one of the biggest countires to imperialize. To be exact, Great Britain
imperialized our 13 american colonies. A country that Great Britain imperialized was Nigeria in
1914. Local leaders in agreed to sign treaties of protection with Great Britain. However there
were some rebellions that did not like the idea of Great Britain imperializing. However Great
Britain used forces to put down, and defeat those rebellions ( Roger B. Beck). From Great
Britain imperializing Nigeria, the greatest resource they were able get was palm oil trade along
the river of Nigeria known as the Niger River. This was after Berlin Conference had given Britain

Lab # 3 Predicting Maximal Oxygen Uptake
30 October 2014
KINE 3153: Physiology of Exercise and Human Performance
Dr. Murat Karabulat
INTRODUCTION: The energy to perform exercise for periods of more than 10 minutes comes
mainly from aerobic metabolism (1). VO2max is a reproducible measure of an individual s
cardiovascular system s ability to deliver the required oxygenated blood to a large muscle mass
involved in exercise (1). The determination of an individual s VO2max is commonly used to assess
levels of physical fitness, as well as develop and monitor training programs for athletes. The
submaximal tests have an error of plus or minus 10% which makes them invalid for the purpose
of long term training studies. For clinical screening purposes the use of submaximal prediction
tests is a viable option. There are three main advantages to using submaximal testing. Submaximal
testing does not take and individual to his or her maximal limits, which greatly reduces the chance
of a cardiovascular accident, especially in older subjects. In addition expensive laboratory
equipment is not needed, and more subjects can be screened in a given period of time.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this laboratory #3 it to acquaint the class with different methods to
estimate VO2max, and to see how these predictions compare to VO2max values acquired during
Lab #2. Laboratory #2 was canceled due to inoperative equipment, so those comparisons cannot be
made.

Luke Aikins Research Paper
With more than 16,000 jumps to his credit, professional skydiver Luke Aikins has performed
many heart stopping stunts, but his latest feat tops them all. On July 30, 2016, the 42 year old
daredevil became the first man in the world to leap off a plane from an altitude of 25,000 feet
without a wingsuit or parachute! Instead, he relied on a net that measured 100 by 100 feet, or less
than one third the size of a football field, to break his fall and help him land safely.
The stunt, aptly named Heaven Sent, was so dangerous that the United States Parachute Association
(USPA) initially denied the skydiver s request to jump without a parachute. However, the
association had a change of heart just minutes before the event, which meant that Akins had no
backup during the historic leap. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

they, along with millions of others watching on television, held their breath as Aikins plummeted
toward the ground, face first, with his arms outstretched. At about 10,000 feet, the skydiver handed
his oxygen mask to one of two team members who were doing the jump as well. They, of course,

(is this necessary?): The results from the McEachan et al. study indicate that the standard TPB
model has only a minor chance, between 13.8 and 15.3 percent, of predicating safe sex behavior

additional variables to the TPB framework that may help to increase predictability (Conner

The Effectiveness Of The Supervision Styles
Throughout this paper, with the aid of Gibbs Model of reflection, refer to appendix one
(shaaban, 2014), I will reflect on the efficacy of the supervision styles I experienced throughout
my degree at my clinical site. These styles are direct supervision and in direct supervision. I will
evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each style and how it impacted my learning. I will take
into consideration the effect it had on my own learning and how I can use this lesson to ensure I
have a positive impact on students I supervise in the future as a new graduate MRT. Description
During the first half of the degree, students must have direct supervision from a qualified
radiographer. Direct supervision is where the supervisor oversees activities as they occur and
provides constant direction, feedback, and assistance(wiseGEEK, 2014). This is necessary in the
clinical setting for junior students so the supervisor can step in and help stabilize the situation if it
gets out of control, which is very important for health and safety reasons (wiseGEEK, 2014).
Feelings The main learning point in the first year in the clinical setting were common examinations
such as chest x rays and becoming confident communicating with patients (unitec.ac.nz, 2014).
Initially I felt intimidated and anxious in this environment because I had someone that I had just
met, watching and listening to everything I said and did. This is fairly common and is referred to
as supervision induced anxiety

Suspense In Tim Burton s Sleepy Hollow
Sleepy Hollow, directed by Tim Burton, is a thrilling horror film which tells the story of a
bewitched town called Sleepy Hollow. Set in 1799, Constable Ichabod Crane is requested to
venture to Sleepy Hollow in order to solve the mysterious murders of two decapitated victims.
Upon his arrival, he is told about the belief of the evil spirit of the Hessian Headless Horseman. At
first, Crane does not believe this rumour and is very stubborn that the culprit is of flesh and blood.
However, through his investigations and ventures he finds that the culprit is a spirit of the

Such films include Dracula and Frankenstein, where the monster falls in love with an innocent
woman in a dark world. The film Sleepy Hollow is classified as a part of this genre. Through the
use of cinematic techniques, Burton has created a gothic horror film which can commonly be
seen in the Tree of the Dead scene. Through this scene, Burton has heavily used dark lighting to
influence the theme gothic horror as the darkness creates a gothic and dark sense of feeling.
The use of this darkness surrounding the Tree of the Dead incorporates the feeling of a gothic
theme as the setting is dark and gloomy, which falls under the gothic horror genre. Another
aspect which interprets the film as a part of the gothic horror genre is the use of setting. The
settings in this film are always gloomy and sad representing the theme of gothic horror. Using
the town of Sleepy Hollow for example, the town is always seen as a sad and gloomy town as the
shade and colour of the town is often a darker shade. Music is another effective technique used to
display the gothic horror genre in this film as it is always played in a low manner, usually
consisting of a base and violins. It creates the dark and gloomy sense of feeling which is common
in gothic horror films. The dark and deep music allows the sense of gothic horror to be created as it
is a gloomy and dark genre, which can clearly

  • 3. Media Coverage On The Vietnam War The Vietnam War introduced many new forms of technology on and off of the battlefield. Increased weaponry helped shape the outcome of the war, but media coverage also played a large role in representing the news and opinions of the war. Viet Thanh Nguyen s The Sympathizer helps illustrate how the media influences and spreads the opinions of the people during the VietnamWar. The war media, which includes newspapers, movies, and most importantly television, caters towards its audience. What the media publishes shapes the public opinion, and the media creates their stance based on the profit they receive. The media reports on material that will produce the largest viewership. War coverage is the most profitable form of news that these news sites cover, so when a war is being fought, they cover the war almost exclusively to gain a large audience. CNN saved their company from going bankrupt by exclusively showing coverage of the Iraq War in 1991; now they are a multibillion dollar business venture. Television media such as CNN and FOX News cover positive stories and news, but the negative news gains them the largest audience, which translates to the largest revenue. The primary drive for these media networks is profit and market shares rather than upholding high journalistic standards. The government knows how popular these shows are during war and they use these shows to their advantage to sway the public opinions and support of the war. They can t necessarily control the shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Future Of Homelessness In Canada This article (originally a speech) talks about how homelessness has been an issue in Canada in the past but is also an issue Canada faces today and how the future of homelessness in its society depends on the actions taken today. Specific information given in the article includes going back as far as 1960 with specific examples of how the Canadian government has been dealing with the issue through the ages. Giving direct quotes from government documents and speeches to statistics, it is divided to into three main categories: past, present, and future (and further going into sub categories from there). Relevant issues are discussed such as how some societal issues and global affairs affect the wealth of Canada and how this can turn into poverty.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the report gives statistics on how many more children live in low income families, and how factors such as ethnicity, immigration status, disability can change the way poverty affects the individual s life. This article is organized very well, in a sequential manner in which one can easily find information relevant to their research by simply looking at the contents list (and the subheadings listed under different chapters). The introduction is concise and formal, however there is not a titled conclusion, rather the last section summarizes the points given. This report does not have a definitive bias as the sections explain what is previously given through statistics, thus there is is not an evident opinion (other than that poverty should be extinguished. There are not suggestions for further reading in the report, however the website in which it was found gave suggestions of other articles related to child poverty. The entire article has an abundance information that would be helpful to the social issues project, specifically statistics on how it affects the quality of life of children and ways to overcome the issue of poverty in Toronto. This report would be very helpful for those who are researching about children living in low income families, poverty, and solutions to poverty. There are some limitations within the article for example data collection, especially because there is not official poverty line. More information on data limitations are given in the appendix. The Hidden Epidemic will contribute to my project by helping to narrow which subdivision of poverty to focus on and to further understand how poverty transpires in Canada s most well known ... • 6. Geography Of The Indus River Barrett, EmilyPeriod 6 4/30/15 Geography The Indus River is located on the northwestern part of the sub continent with other rivers draining into it. Another river called the Ganges River was east of the Indus River. The climate was tropical and contained seasonal winds called monsoons. Monsoons during the winter were dry and went from land to the sea, letting little rain fall on the land. During summer monsoons wet winds go from ocean to land bringing rain with it. The mountain ranges, the Himalayas and Hindu Kush, were located near the north. The first civilization in the sub continent grew around the Indus River; later another civilization grew around the Ganges River. The rivers would flood and this leaves behind rich soils which makes plentiful crops that fed the civilization. Agriculture depends on the summer monsoon. If rain comes, there are no problems, but if it comes late or not at all crops die and people starve. Since they could not always depend on the monsoons they made irrigation channels that led to their crops. The Himalayas and Hindu Kush separated the sub continent from the rest of Asia. Culture Clothing India was the first place that made and used cotton in a piece of clothing called a sari, which was worn by women. This piece of clothing was long and could be worn in different ways. Rich women wore saris made of silk. Men wore a long piece of clothing called a dhoti. • 7. Torture Is Torture Torture is something all over the world that inflicts punishment and pain on people. The fear of drowning is something a lot of people have. With this being said, this story is based on a torture method called waterboarding. Waterboarding was thought of by members of the Special Forces. It was used in a training called SERE, which means Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape. The main things needed for this torture is water, and a board of course. This is where it gets the name waterboarding. The goal of this paper is to insure people that doubt waterboarding is a torture, because waterboarding is a torture. In Believe Me, It s Torture , Christopher Hitchens describes waterboarding in order to convince the readers on why it is torture. In Hitchens s story, the majority of his detail is dedicated to his personal experience. Hitchens was brave enough to actually forbearance the torture of waterboarding. Hitchens claimed, I was very gentle yet firmly grabbed from behind, pulled to my feet, pinioned by my wrist (which were then cuffed to a belt), and cut off from sunlight by having a black hood pulled over my face. (Hitchens 617). Trained men are implying the very first steps of waterboarding to Hitchens. He also said, Arms already lost to me, I wasn t able to flail as I pushed onto a sloping board and positioned with my head lower than my heart. (617). The Gospel Of Luke Pronounces In the Gospel of Luke, Luke pronounces all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day he was taken up, after he had given instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles... (Act 1:1 2 CSB). However, Acts is the account of all that Jesus continued to do and to teach through His apostles by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Luke portrays the role of the Holy Spirit as being given to help accomplish the Great Commission throughout his book. • 10. Cultural Barriers To The Romans The gospel is the foundation of the faith and without it there nothing. Romans 1:16 states it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone that believes .1 There are a lot of churches which do missions and other fine works but they fail when proclaiming the gospel. They proclaim portions of which are non offensive to people. Hell will not be talked about, sexual sin never mentioned or any other type of sin. The need is for healthy churches, who then in turn are more likely to send healthy mission teams out into the field. The world desperately needs an untainted gospel. The power of the gospel is the best tool to break down barriers. When the Apostle Paul wrote Romans, he was crossing cultural barriers, he stated in Romans 1: 14 15 14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians,[d] both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. 2 Paul is a great example of being a barrier breaker and being unashamed about his faith. • 11. Analysis Of I Carry My Heart A young man is currently in the thicket of love with his significant other. At the drop of a pin the man would get her anything she could desire, regardless if it is a need or a want. Some would question why, but it is because it is he who has fallen head over heels for her. For she is the love his life, his one in a million, the irreplaceable. She is the one who keeps his heart in a steady rhythmic beat, who brightens his day like the early morning sun. This is relatable for millions of people in the world today, it is so well known that it could be considered a universal theme. E. E. Cummings explains a very similar meaning in the poem [i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)] . The theme of the poem is that the unity of loveis dangerously powerful when it is between two in love. Cummings makes this happen through using metaphors, personification, and repetition. Cummings uses metaphors throughout the poem to show how much care he has for her. E. E. Cummings starts the first line of his poem with a metaphor saying i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart) . He uses this metaphor to show that even if he and his lover are far apart, she will always be on his mind, in his heart, and close to him. E. E. Cummings uses another metaphor almost immediately after in line 6 saying, for beautiful you are my world,my true . In the use of this metaphor he is emphasizing that she is that someone you hope to never lose, because you would be nothing without them. The final ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Essay On Dido s Suicide Beyond what drives Dido to take in the Trojans in their time of need, she is also made sympathetic through her dealings with Aeneas and the gods specifically, that almost nothing that befalls Dido during the course of the story is her fault. When she and Aeneas meet, there is instant attraction between them; Venus, concerned about intervention from Juno, decides to take advantage of the situation by making Didofall hopelessly in love with Aeneas. In a sense, this can be seen as beneficial for Aeneas, since he loved her anyway and this prevented any form of reprisal from Juno or the Carthaginians themselves; however, it also meant that Dido lost any and all control over herself with regards to her new love and bound her entirely to the whims of the goddess. Venus words her plan as such: Strike first; take the queen by a ruse, with encircling / Fences of fire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Notably, Dido s suicide brings to light a great contradiction in her behavior. Before Aeneas even meets Dido proper, we are introduced to concepts that Dido is associated with namely, the building of a city (a trait she shares with Aeneas; he is fated to build Rome while Dido is rebuilding Carthage .) On direction from Venus, Aeneas enters Carthage and is taken by the beauty of the artwork adorning the temple to Juno. Here, in this park, something new first touched him now, and it gentled / Fears, now Aeneas dared, for the first time, dream of survival...For, while awaiting the ruler below that huge temple, he took in / All its details, marveling at how the city had prospered, / Noting the artists skill, the combined success of their labours. (1.450 455) Dido herself oversees this construction; as such, she is inextricably linked with her city, as her goal, and for a while Aeneas s too, is to rebuild it. • 13. Hades Research Paper Jairo Ramirez Torres Ms. Diaz January 29, 2015 Hades: God of the Underworld Who s Hades? Hades is the son of Kronos and Rhea. Hades is the god of the underworld or the dead. He was also named Pluton (the giver of wealth) by the people who preferred calling him that instead of Hades. He received his ruling of the underworld when they, Zeus and his siblings, locked their father in Tartarus. He was always different than the other gods, since he preferred the company of spirits. However, I believe that this new rule is a good idea. Previous engagements between firms and clients have been given a large notice of when the rule will be in effect. They are given plenty of time to finish their engagements. This new rule may allow small firms more possibilities to increase their clientele. We may be moving away from having a small number of large firms doing all the services to having many firms providing the services. Also, Rule 3523 will ensure independence. Another issue that has arisen since the establishment of the PCAOB is the increased compliance costs. In 2007, the PCAOB has been awarded a budget of 136,429,000 dollars by the SEC. Of that amount, 79,514,000 dollars will be used to pay for salaries. (The PCAOB) The PCAOB s budget is paid by public companies through fees and audit firms through fines. These fines can reach 100,000 dollars for individual auditors and up to 2 million dollars for audit firms. Many firms have increased their audit fees due to the increase in costs, partly due to the PCAOB. The PCAOB continues to grow each year. Their powers and responsibilities continue to grow, which in turn will lead to a larger budget. During his childhood Alexander had great teachers who taught him how to use and how to choose great politics, diplomacy and, how to win the war if that day would come. For many years Alexander the Great studied how to control everything and how to be ready to do anything that might be needed. At the age of sixteen he had to become a king of big kingdom, because his father, Philip, was in the war with Byzantium. Many people believed in Alexander because they knew that he was different from other children in his age, he did not care about bodily pleasures or anything like that, however, he had infinitely ambition which created him a good leader. Alexander strengthened his position in the power, he tamed people that were trying to make a revolution to take power in their hands. There are many organizations operating in the consumer electronics industry, and they tend to be more elastic with respect to the suppliers power (Apple Inc, 2104). For example; if a supplier increases its prices, the organisation looks for a substitute as the firm diverts choice. Suppliers have some sort of power as they provide Apple with highly differentiated materials for the production process. However, Apple does acquire manufacturing costs, component costs and labour costs in order to innovate products to supply back to the customers (Apple Inc, 2012). Furthermore, Apple s brand power, mode of competition and purchasing volumes acquire intermediate goods and components from suppliers within the organisation as well as outside (Heracleous, 2013 p.97). Apple practises taper integration where they own retail outlets but also affiliate with other retailers (Apple Inc, 2012). Buyer power: A threat of buyers is not considered as a threat to Apple. Firstly, Apple has millions of buyers, inclusive of large and small corporations. According to the Hebrew Bible this was a portable dwelling place for the presence of God, from the time of the Exodus to the conquering of the Promise Land (Canaan). This lead to the freedom of millions of African Americans who sought the same liberty and equality that was promised to everyone under the United States constitution. These liberties, of course, were not achieved right away. During the Reconstruction era, which is the decade right after the Civil War, many of the recently freed slaves did not have money, property, or credit. They could not buy the necessary things to enjoy their freedom, which lead to sharecropping, a glorified form of slavery. Sharecropping is a system of agriculture in which a landowner lets a tenant use the land in return for a share of the crops produced on their portion of land (Sharecropping).. Although derived from Sigmund Freud s theory of Psychosexual Development, Erickson believed that a person s social experiences cause a great impact on their sense of identity throughout their entire lifespan in eight different stages of development, as opposed to the five stages Freud assumed ended when a person reaches early adulthood (Cherry. 2016). Erickson theorized that a person s ability to successfully complete a stage of development, regardless of their developmental challenges, directly affected the outcome of a healthy or unhealthy personality and sense of self. In his attempt to exceed further in understanding how a person s social environment affects their personality and identity, Erikson s findings became great contributions to the study of psychology. On June 15, 1902, Erikson was born in Frankfurt, Germany, to Karla Abrahamsen, a Jewish stockbroker, as Erik Salomonsen at birth (GoodTherapy. 2007 16). His mother married his pediatrician, Theodor Homberger, in 1905, when Erickson was about three years old (The Famous People. 2007). • 34. The German Invasion Of Poland Introduction The German invasion of Poland on September 1st 1939, was an experimental display of the most advanced and intense form of warfare the world had ever seen. With such a drastic use of power and with aspirations expanding so wide, the German Wehrmacht 1, along with the Soviet Union and a small Slovak contingent, soon escalated a central European battle into a global conflict. The target of Poland, for such an experiment had been strategically chosen as a geographical and logistical advantage, a self proclaimed repossession of pre World War one land ownership, and an eastern front barrier with Germanys newly established pact/ally (via the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact), the USSR. The concept of Blitzkrieg warfare had been developed by tactical lessons learned during and most influentially, toward the end of World War One. When combined with technological innovations developed until the advent of World War two, Nazi Germanywould possess a devastating brainchild that would eventually grow into the Shock and Awe technique of combat that we see today.2 The execution of the invasion hailed the Germans with the overall victory they sought, however their technique of the experiment were far from calibrated. The invading German army received heavy and unanticipated losses from Polish defenders, even though Polish defense lines fell within two days of initial invasion. After the animals were slaughtered, they would be shipped to meat counters around the country and overseas. Among those changes, Schlosser explains, Iowa Beef Packers (IBP) changed the entire meatpacking industry by turning the business of slaughtering animals into an assembly line. The Sandwich Generation is defined as a generation of people, typically in their thirties or forties, responsible for bringing up their own children and for the care of their aging parents. So I want to end as I began, with a vision of two futures each a palpable possibility and with a prayer that we will see with vivid clarity the necessity of choosing between those two futures, and the urgency of making the right choice now. Easter Lab # 3 Predicting Maximal Oxygen Uptake 30 October 2014 KINE 3153: Physiology of Exercise and Human Performance Dr. Murat Karabulat INTRODUCTION: The energy to perform exercise for periods of more than 10 minutes comes mainly from aerobic metabolism (1). VO2max is a reproducible measure of an individual s cardiovascular system s ability to deliver the required oxygenated blood to a large muscle mass involved in exercise (1). The determination of an individual s VO2max is commonly used to assess levels of physical fitness, as well as develop and monitor training programs for athletes. The submaximal tests have an error of plus or minus 10% which makes them invalid for the purpose of long term training studies. For clinical screening purposes the use of submaximal prediction tests is a viable option. There are three main advantages to using submaximal testing. Submaximal testing does not take and individual to his or her maximal limits, which greatly reduces the chance of a cardiovascular accident, especially in older subjects. The Effectiveness Of The Supervision Styles Throughout this paper, with the aid of Gibbs Model of reflection, refer to appendix one (shaaban, 2014), I will reflect on the efficacy of the supervision styles I experienced throughout my degree at my clinical site. These styles are direct supervision and in direct supervision. I will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each style and how it impacted my learning. I will take into consideration the effect it had on my own learning and how I can use this lesson to ensure I have a positive impact on students I supervise in the future as a new graduate MRT. Description During the first half of the degree, students must have direct supervision from a qualified radiographer. Direct supervision is where the supervisor oversees activities as they occur and provides constant direction, feedback, and assistance(wiseGEEK, 2014). Feelings The main learning point in the first year in the clinical setting were common examinations such as chest x rays and becoming confident communicating with patients (unitec.ac.nz, 2014). Initially I felt intimidated and anxious in this environment because I had someone that I had just met, watching and listening to everything I said and did. This is fairly common and is referred to as supervision induced anxiety ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
