Eu Union Of The European Union Essay
On Thursday, June 23rd, in a history making vote, the people of the United Kingdom decided to leave
the European Union, hopefully providing flexibility on a range of issues. For those who back the exit
from the EU, the claim is Britain, among other things, will have better business regulations,
immigration control, and trade agreements. Ultimately, those in favor of leaving the EU, are seeking
an economic and policy independence.

The European Union is a union of 28 nations who have relinquished part of their sovereignty to EU
institutions such as the European Parliament, European Council, and European Central Bank. Formed
in 1993, the EU sought to further improve members economies and establish European free trade. In a
deeper effort to unite, the EU also has an official currency that can be used throughout Europe. The
currency, called the Euro, is used in 19 of the EU member states which make up the Eurozone. This
currency assists in easier spending as it compliments the single market established by the Union.

Cannibalism Exocannibalism
In my essay, I would like to discuss cannibalism as a phenomenon in the context of socio cultural
anthropology. By exploring some of the cannibal practices prevailing in the tribal societies even until
today, I will try to put up a question if this practice is still vivid and functional way how to deal the
social order.
1. Úvod
Cannibalism, known also as anthropophagy, is one of the slowly vanishing phenomena of the modern
world. Even if it is necessarily considered taboo from the western perspective, these practices are in
some indigenous societies still part of everyday life. In the past, within some cultures cannibalism was
recognized as a barbarism and as a decline of civilization, modern anthropology goes ahead with the
debate why cannibalism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of these is survival cannibalism that is the case when people are forced to eat others flesh to keep
themselves alive. Quite often cannibalism arises from deviant... disorders. (Donely) One of this type
might be autocannibalism, which is defined as eating own flesh.
4. Amazonia
Many indigenous tribes currently living in the Amazonian jungle can still practice some forms of
cannibalism. An American anthropologist Beth Conclin thoroughly researched cultural habits, rituals
and mortuary practices among Wari. Her monography Consuming Grief can then serve as a great
primary source for analysis of cannibalism.
In the past, amongst Wari people both forms of cannibalism occurred. They practiced warfare
cannibalism as well as mortuary, however, no anthropologist has ever seen it live. Details about the
rituals itself then only come from the informants. (Conklin, 2001) This fact was actually crucial in the
following discussion about denying the existence of cannibalism.
When a Wari person passed away, they left the body to decay for around three days and then they
gathered to hold a ceremony for the deceased. For the closest kin it was forbidden to take part in the
flesh consumption, however, others did this only in order to help them overcome the mourning phase.
This very fact put the community together. (Conklin,

Why Was The Great Leap Forward
The Great Leap Forward was began 1958.The Great Leap Forward was Mao s try to modernise the
economy of China, so that by 1988, China would have an economy that competed with America. Mao
had visited China and concluded that the Chinese people were able of anything and the two main tasks
that he felt they should target was industry and agriculture. Mao announced a second Five Year Plan to
last from 1958 to 1963. This plan was called the Great Leap Forward. The Great Leap Forward
planned to develop agriculture and industry. Mao believed that both had to grow to allow the other to
grow. Industry could only succeed if the work force was well fed, while the agricultural workers
needed industry to produce the modern tools needed for modernisation. In order to achieve this, China
was reformed into a series of communities called communes. The changes Mao made in the Second
Five Year Plan were significant. The first reason why the Great Leap Forward was significant is
because of its impact on the social community of China. A community s size varied however most
held about 5000 families. People in a community gave up their ownership of tools, animals etc... so
that everything was owned by the community. People now employed for the community and not for ...

A large amount of work done on the part of China savants, especially after the Cultural Revolution,
ascribes major changes in state rules to the Party elites and the movements that they began. Despite of
this, in the case of modern improvements in China it can be said that Deng Xiaoping and his economic
liberalization enterprises were not simply initiatives from higher ups who make a decision the future
of their nation. These initiatives are at the least partly reactions to general patterns that already

Is Euthanasia Wrong
An assisted dying law would not result in more people dying, but in fewer people suffering (Selby).
Euthanasia, also known as physician assisted death is the painless killing of a patient suffering from an
incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma (Nordqvist). There are many famous cases
involving euthanasia. For example, on April 15, 1975, Karen Ann Quinlan lost consciousness after
mixing alcohol and the drug Valium, restricting oxygen to her brain( Karen Ann Quinlan ). After
several weeks, doctors at St. Clare s Hospital in Denville, New Jersey, say she is in a persistent
vegetative state, with irreversible brain damage ( Karen Ann Quinlan ). In August, her parents asked
doctors to remove their daughter s respirator. This was the first case of physician assisted death.
Another right to die case involved Terri Schiavo. In February of 1990,at the age of 26, Terri Schiavo
collapsed at home and oxygen was cut off to her brain for several minutes (Lynne). More recently, ...

All doctors take an oath known as the Hippocratic Oath at the beginning of their career stating that
they will do whatever they can for a patient in order to help them, but helping is not always keeping
them alive. Ending a person s life upon request with a purposeful goal is hardly a malicious act,
therefore it is inaccurate to compare euthanasia to murder (Starks et al.). Another issue that many
people see in physician assisted death is that it gives doctors too much power. However, the only
power that it gives them is to fulfill someone s final wishes. Another valid point is that vital organs
can be saved. There is a long list of people that are in need of a kidney, lung, heart, and liver
transplant. However, with physician assisted death the organs can be preserved and be transplanted to
someone who has been long waiting for a transplant (Messerli). Once again, we have to put the needs
of the living before the

Principles Of The Football Bowl Association

SPM 2000
Assignment 2: Business Principles Applied to Sport
First Principle Area
The management principles are very important in the Football Bowl Association. Their main objective
is the following; The 41 bowl games aim to create a unique experience for the fans that travel and
show support beyond the regular season games. (FBA) The Football Bowl Association strives through
the fans they gain from various college football games. They have to plan and organize 41 bowl games
that will take place are the United States of America. This involves reserving the field, hotels, prizes,
and events. For each bowl game the players are also given a chance to give back their own time to
communities around the city they will play in, this usually involves visiting hospitals or helping out at
food banks. (FBA) The all has to be planned and organized with specific detail and dealing with
weather and transportation for a large number of teammates. When the events are being planned the
manager in charge is required to be able to lead making sure everything is going according to
schedule, as well as having good communication skills to make sure nothing is left out. The manager
in charge of these events has to have quick decision making skills in case an event falls through. Every
single thing can be planned down to the smallest detail, but unfortunately everything cannot be
controlled. Florida is one of the most bipolar states when dealing with weather and can literally

Chris Mccandless And Henry David Thoreau
Both Chris McCandless and Henry David Thoreau explore the idea of authentic living and simplicity,
throughout both texts they portray their ideas to the audience. The film Into the WIld largely
encaptures the ideas of Henry David Thoreau, sometimes by quoting him, especially his extremely
famous piece Where I Lived and What I Lived For. It is very obvious to the audience that Chris is a
fan of Thoreau s writing and he connects to it greatly. Chris is able to portray to the audience that he
has the same ideas as Thoreau by talking about his writing occasionally. He explains simplicity to the
people he is close with in order to help them understand why he believes that simplistic living is so
important and beneficial. The ideas that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poison of society is displayed in an eye opening way to the audience in both texts and assists in
proving the point of the need for escape from society. The significance of simplistic living is
demonstrated throughout the texts and soundtrack of the film. A piece from the film that guides the
importance of escape from pressure is titled Society written by Eddie Vedder. The piece helps the
reader understand what Chris is truly feeling and how it is effecting his happiness in extreme ways.
The song demonstrates the pressures and difficulties of societies we have greed, to which we have
agreed, you think you have to want, more than you need, until you have it all you won t be free (Into
the Wild, Eddie Vedder). These few lines exemplify the greed many people show without knowing it,
it is demonstrating how people always feel the need for more materials without being grateful for what
they already have. It is also showing how people are extremely unhappy when they don t have
everything that they want or feel that they need. This piece is extremely important in the film because
it perfectly captures Chris s feelings towards the poisoned society and his disgust towards ungrateful
and unauthentic people. While Society is being played during the film Chris is being shown living his
life in Alaska and working hard to feed himself, but he is happy in nature. It helps the audience see

Raytheon s Strategy for Competitive Advantage Analysis of External Environment When conducting
an analysis of external environment, PESTEL model is a helpful tool to analyze and assess the
external factors (political, economic, social and technological, environmental, and legal) that impact
the company s strategy and operations (Jurevicius, 2013). Below is Raytheon s PESTEL analysis. See
Appendix A for a full list of external contributing factors affecting A D industry.  Political: Since the
primary source of budget is from defense budget, which is appropriated by the Congress, political

Emily, Cody And Lucas Were The Ones At Home
When I enter the home the first thing I noticed was that only Emily, Cody and Lucas were the ones at
home. Benjamin, Logan and Drew were out with their therapist for the afternoon. Emily and Cody we
re upstairs playing but after about 5 minutes Ms. Orbach and I heard a door slamming. We went
upstairs to check on them. At some point Cody no longer wanted to play with Emily and this made
Emily very upset. Ms. Orbach told them to come downstairs and play and they are not allowed to play
upstairs by themselves.
Once they were downstairs in the living room Cody went to the dining table to color and Emily was
playing with her dolls on the floor. Lucas was moving between the two of them. Ms. Orbach and I
then began our conversation about the second parent mentor. I explained to her the reason for the
second parent mentor. They would be another set of eyes into the house , so we can get more things
done throughout the day. It would also be someone there to help supervise the six children. Since they
break off into different sections of the house. I explained it to her in a way that it is about getting more
help versus pushing her to do it all on her own.
She told to me, she is not the one, who said no to the second Parent Mentor, It was the Judge during
one of her court dates. Her husband s lawyer also made some comments to the Judge. He did not think
it was a good idea for her to have a second Mentor. After the judge heard what the lawyers had to said

Visual Analytic Theories from J. Bertin s Book, Semiology...
One of the first theories in the area of Visual Analytics came out in the 60s by J. Bertin (Bertin 1967)
and his book Semiology of graphics. His work received a lot of interest especially by cartographers in
the beginning and one decade later by J. Mackinlay (Mackinlay 1986). Bertin in his book, uses a
systematical approach pro posing seven basic visual variables, also know as visual channels, which
can be used to visualize information. (Garlandini and Fabrikant 2009) More specifically, the proposed
visual channels are position, size, brightness, texture, color, orientation and shape, which are
categorized to planar (such as position and size), and retinal variables (such as brightness, color etc.).
Moreover, Bertin uses the channel characteristics to distinguish them into four categories selective,
associative, ordered and quantitative. (Bertin 1967; Mackinlay 1986) This categorization was very
important, and since then, due to the rapid advancements of research and technology, a significant
number of additional visual channels have been identified. In 2013, M. Chen and L. Floridi published
a very interesting taxonomy in the philosophy of information, identifying about 27 visual channels
divided into four major categories: Geometric, Optical, Topological Relational and Semantic channels.
(Chen and Floridi 2013) From this categorization we will choose and discuss some of the visual
channels that were not considered by Bertin at that time. It is very interesting that many

Andrew Jackson s Attitude Towards Native Americans
In the years before Andrew Jackson became president, the different tribes in the south lived well
together with white people. The Choctaw tribe accept the new life and culture as it was the best of bad
circumstances, they could let their tribe fight and possibly face death. Moving away was a horrible
journey and they would also possibly face death. Or stay and accept the new culture. They had to let
go of their long and important history. But as hard as they tried when President Jackson became
president a few years later, the attitude towards Native Americans had changed completely. Jackson
was not friendly with the Native American tribes (in the south), and soon they were pressured to leave
by political figures, land speculators (people

Quit Your Job And Go Back To School
He set his jaw and never cracked a smile. He looked at me, eye ball to eye ball, and said, Quit your job
and go back to school. I couldn t stop laughing. During the early 1990s, I worked as a fulltime
employee at Howard University Law School. As a faculty secretary, I edited law professors book
manuscripts. I loved raking in my own bacon, and when my husband suggested that I quit working,
just to sit inside a classroom, I thought what he said was a joke. I chuckled and I waited for his
exuberant smile, but no smile that day. I replied, What! Are you serious? He said, Yes, things will go
better for you if you got your college degree. Although I attended a community college after high
school (in the 1980s), at age 33, I thought my days to chase higher education were far gone. To stand
firm upon what I thought, I was determined to dismiss any ideas to sit inside a college classroom. The
same day my husband wanted me to stop working (August 1997); he let me tag along with him as he
drove me to my job. The summer morning s aroma of fresh green grass flooded the air. I could feel the
hot sunlight, as the rays beamed down upon our car. While we fought our way through rush hour
traffic, we finally arrived at my job s main turning entrance. Before I stepped outside of our car, my
husband reiterated what he originally said, After my numerous years of being outside the classroom, I

The Stifling Health Concerns Of Dietary Supplements Consumers
The lack of regulation in the supplement industry The concoction of deceptive business methods and
unrestricted regulations have resulted in detrimental health concerns of dietary supplements
consumers. Dietary supplements is virtually unrestricted, and expanding its markets, much like the
snake oil medicines of the early 1900s . In 1993, this industry was generating 4 billion a year, by 2003
consumers spent 16.8 billions on supplements, and it is currently at 37 billion a year.(Wingert,1993;
Larsen, 2003; Bradley, 2015). This massive industry is gaining popularity from the increasing amount
of health enthusiast, and aging population. However due to the introduction of the DSHEA and the
limiting of the FDA s regulatory power, this industry has become chaotic, dangerous but highly
profitable. Consumers are in danger of ingesting unregulated and potentially dangerous pill, that are
marketed to them as nature s cures. The lobbyist and senators pass law in favor of this lucrative
industry and it will continue to grow and prospers, until the victimized consumers stand up and
strongly voice their opinions. Just like when the industry successfully campaign for supplements and
limiting regulations, we consumers should use our democratic voice against the lack of obstacles, and
safety measures of supplements. Back in the 1900s, due to the lack of regulations, anything in a bottle
can be called medicine. This opportunity led to the creation of many quack doctors , who

Science Merit And Scientific Merit
Unit 10 DB 1 Concept of Scientific Merit Introduction As future scholars, we tend to hear a lot about
Scientific Merit. But, that same old question might pop in our mines, which is should this learner even
care or worry about scientific merit? We are told that without any scientific merit, that our research
that we have worked so hard on cannot be considered a valid research without it, and if we are at the
end part of our schooling/studies, and hope to receive an approval from the IRB for our research
proposal, that will not happen if it is missing. Therefore, within this paper, we will discuss scientific
merits, explain the dimensions of scientific merit, discuss the aspects of the study that was chosen for
the Scientific Merit, and choose an area of scientific merit that we could have improved. Scientific
merit Scientific merit is considered as a way to examine if our research study represents good science.
Therefore, we will need to make sure that any research we are working on, clearly states the research
questions and its overall objectives. The research should also include the contextual data that will also
have peer reviewed literature to support why the research is needed. We also should make sure that if
human beings are being used as participants, that their privacy and safety will be respected, and if
there is any possibility of harm, no matter how small it is, and the benefit and risks whether indirect or
direct for the partakers in the study needs to be very

The Goblin Market By Christina Rossetti
A woman in the Victorian era was good for few things marriage being of the upmost importance.
When married, a woman needed to pure of sexual experiences and desires, for only men had sexual
needs to be fulfilled. If a woman were ruined, or not a virgin, she was unmarriageable. Few outlets
were available unmarried women to survive, and many of them turned to prostitution. We shall see the
image of a ruined woman presented by Christina Rossetti in The Goblin Market, and find the
conflicting images of a prostitute in D. G. Rossetti s Jenny and Thomas Hardy s The Ruined Maid.
Christina Rossetti s The Goblin Market is a poem that explores through heavy metaphors a woman s
place and action in society, whether she is fallen or not. The Goblin Market focuses on two sisters,
Laura and Lizzie, and their experience with the goblins that attempt to sell the girls their fruit. Laura,
rather curious than afraid of them, gives into their pitch and devours the goblins fruit an act that over a
short time ages her and sends her rapidly towards death. In an act of self sacrifice, Lizzie confronts the
goblins for fruit for Laura, but they beat and ravage her with their claws and fruit. She returns, giving
Laura a second chance at life by eating and drinking the juice and left over pulp from her beating. In a
tale like The Goblin Market, it is easy to stop at the surface for a moral story a young woman risks her
life to save her sister. But with the imagery and language

George Dickie And I On The Aesthetic Attitude
George Dickie and I on the Aesthetic Attitude Does the term aesthetic attitude have a true definition,
or is it just a crafted myth charged with freeing the Aesthetic theory from an obsessive concern with
beauty? Is the idea of the aesthetic attitude a misleading way of understanding the aesthetic
experience? George Dickie tackles these tough questions in his critique of the aesthetic attitude titled,
The Myth of Aesthetic Attitude (which will from now on be referred to as TMAA). In this essay I will
discuss Dickies critique of the aesthetic attitude. In the first half I will consider the three main ways
Dickie characterizes the aesthetic attitude and explain why he considers it to be a myth. In the second
half I will examine the three reasons Dickie believes the aesthetic attitude is a misleading way to
understand the aesthetic experience and also explain why I strongly agree with his beliefs. George
Dickie begins his essay by introducing three theories that he categorizes according to how strongly he
believes they characterize the aesthetic attitude. He argues that the strongest theory, posed by distance
theorists Edward Bullough and Sheila Dawson, revolves around the technical term distance used in a
way similar to, The man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

love with her, than what on earth does? I know for a fact that I examine things for how they look and

Response To Cradle
In Cradle to Cradle by William McDonough and Michael Braungart, the two authors take into great
detail by explaining the cradle to grave manufacturing system. The system explains every step of a
product s life from the creation to the disposal of the product. It is important to learn about this system
because in order for a company to track and take responsibility of their hazardous waste. The system
itself explained where products are created and the mass production goes into this system without
enough consideration for human health and the environment. McDonough and Braungart promote for
a new framework where companies take into consideration at every step of a product s lifestyle. In the

In order to recycle these products is by three steps: items are collected, cleaned and formed into

finally, the flakes are melted, the plastic can be molded into a new product. Again, these industries can
be more sustainable and be more considered to the planet is by adopting a new system, cradle to cradle
. Unlike the cradle to grave system, the cradle to cradle system is more sustainable. In Cradle to
Cradle, the title itself explains the concept of this new approach which is for designing intelligent
products . The meaning of intelligent products is by describing the entire lifecycle of the product.
Also, cradle to cradle is not only to describe the life cycle of the item, but the other aspects behind the
lifecycle. For example, the product should be optimizing material health, recyclability, renewable
energy use, water efficiency, quality, and social responsibility (Fryslan). These aspects support the

next to each other and we stay in our room together. I considered her to be both my best friend and
sister. In one variation of the myth, the twin s herd of cattle was taken by their cousins. Upon stealing
their cattle from their cousin, Castor was badly wounded and succumbed to death. Pollux asked his
father Zeus to give half his immortality to his brother. Zeus agreed under the terms that both twins
would spend half eternity in the Underworld and half in Olympus ( Dioscuri ). I made a similar
decision as Pollux when he sacrificed his immortality to bring his brother, Castor back to life. I
relinquished going to UCR to attend the same University with my sister. Throughout the years, Kelly
and I faced our hardship together, and I couldn t stand being away from my sister. In Pollux and
Castor tale it shows them taking the same path similar to my story when Pollux sacrificed his
immortality, he now must suffer in the Underworld with Castor. Nowadays, I spent my time assisting
my sister and in return. she helps me too. Not all individuals in my life that help shaped me had close
connections to me, some of the individuals were my peers and relatives.

Bless Me Ultima Florence s Death Scene Analysis
Florence s death scene in Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya aptly conveys the novel s theme of faith
and truth being subjective. In this scene, Antonio accepts the beliefs of Florence which Catholicism
deems sinful, and loses his complete faith in God upon realizing that his friend is condemned. Antonio
s piety is a significant aspect of his character, but he questions his faith and acknowledges the validity
of other beliefs regardless.
Antonio s acceptance of beliefs that are condemned by his religion conveys the novel s theme of truth
being subjective. Before learning of Florence s death, Antonio is eager to share the legend of the

Christopher uses logic instead of reason when making decisions I had to get out of the house. Father
had murdered Wellington. That meant he could murder me, because I couldn t trust him, even though
he had said Trust me, because he had told a lie about a big thing (Haddon, 122). This shows how
Christopher uses his logic instead of reason. Most people in that situation would know that just
because your dad killed a dog he would not kill you, but Christopher is more worried about trust. This
is because Christopher sees love as mostly, three things, trust, someone who helps you, and someone
who cares about you. Since Christopher doesn t trust his dad anymore he thinks his dad doesn t care
about him and this is logically thinking. This is logically thinking because he used the facts that were
their and added them up as if an equation and made his decision to leave his dad. This is how he
thought logically instead of with reason. The second way Christopher used his logic to his advantage
is when he left his father s house and he went to Mrs. Shears house and he logically thought out all of
his options and made his decision on what he was doing next. [...] I did this by thinking of all the

Jackson, Mississippi during the early 1960 s. The book addresses the inequalities African Americans
continued to face even after the abolition of slavery. The story is about having a voice, and is written
in the perspective of three women: Aibileen and Minny, household maids, and Skeeter Phelan, a

This is the motto of my life, it happened to me in 5th through 7th grade where I tested three times to

Doctor Thomas J. Delong, talks about these characteristics in his research where he states that people
with high need of achievement are often critical of themselves and self doubters (Delong, 2011)
Furthermore, high need of achievement has help shape my personality because with everything I do, I

Miller Vs Alabama Case Study
Miller V. Alabama Case Study
Roman Colon
Pennsylvania State University: Capitol Campus
Introduction
On the Summer night of July 15, 2003, Evan Miller along with an accomplice committed murder by
the way of battery and arson (Oyez). Nearly a decade later, this case would play a crucial role in the
Supreme Court decision on mandatory life without parole sentences of juveniles. In a decision which
relied heavily on the beliefs and opinions of those present, the court argued the culpability of youth
with regards to actions such as murder. Much of the rationale used on the date of the oral argument
stemmed from the former cases of both Roper V. Simmons (2005) and Graham V. Florida (2010).
Essentially, the Miller V. Alabama case ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both boys eventually confessed to the murder during police questioning. Due to Miller s prior
offenses as well as his mental maturity the district attorney was able to transfer the case from juvenile
court to adult court. In 2006 before a jury, Miller was found guilty as an adult and charged with
murder in the course of arson. In the state of Alabama this crime carries a mandatory punishment of
life without parole.
In the companion case of Jackson V. Hobbs, Kuntrell Jackson who then was also 14 years of age,
accompanied by two friends attempted to rob a video game store in the month of November, 1999
(Miller, 2012). As Kuntrell Jackson sat outside of the store, Derrick Shields threatened the clerk
Laurie Troup with a sawed off shotgun as he demanded money. Troup was non compliant and resulted
in Shields firing and killing her (Miller, 2012). Much like in the case of Evan Miller, Jackson was tried
as an adult and found guilty of capital felony murder and aggravated robbery. In the state of Arkansas,
a defendant who is charged with capital murder is sentenced to mandatory life in prison without the
chance of parole.
The Eighth Amendment guarantees individuals the right not to be subjected to excessive sanctions and
requires that punishments are proportionate to the crime committed. (National Conference of State
Legislature, 2015).

The Conflict And Functionalist Theories Behind Social Class
Inequality materializes the upper class, vulgarizes our middle class, brutalizes our lower class. In
Australia, social class is a widely recognised concept, however some individuals, particularly the
wealthy people, will argue that social class in non existent, that with hard work anyone can achieve,
what they set their mind onto. The social stratification system, is based on objective criteria, including
wealth, power, and prestige. The Australian notion of equal opportunity, insinuates that social class
does not affect, the opportunities someone will have in life. However many sociologist, will argue that
social class does create an underlying disadvantage, amongst groups in society, in particular education
and health, of an individual is impacted. In this essay, I will strive to critically examine, the conflict
and functionalist theories, behind social class. This will allow me to determine, weather some groups
are constrained, or advantaged, by their current social status.
Max Weber (1864 1920), a well known German sociologist, saw society was organised into status
groups, with a common lifestyle. There are three factors, that determine an individuals chances in life
which are, economic, status and power. When all these factors are combined, these elements create
better circumstances, for an individual. It can therefore be noted, that an individuals social class, can
have a large influence, on many parts of their life. A significant issue for sociologist and society, is

Throughout the essay the narrator explains his situation to be nerve wracking, and how it is implied
that he must follow the rules of the government to stay safe, and not end up like the prisoners.
Towards the middle of the essay, the narrator starts to realize how unfair the prisoners are being
treated, but does not say anything. He then briefly notices the atmosphere of the jail yard to be
gloomy, and how it is not only him who feels the same way as he does. By the narrator taking part in
the actions as the rest of the guards it shows the readers that he is scared of the capitalist punishment
that will occur if he ever goes against it. An example of this is shown towards the end of the essay
after the hanging: We all had a drink together, native and European alike, quite amicably. The dead
man was a hundred yards away. (Orwell, 3) The narrator is trying to explain how the community in the
jail yard have all realized the crazy behaviour of taking someone s life, however, they cannot do
anything about it as they fear they will get in trouble with the government. Although the narrator
develops an opinion on the unjust actions taking place, him nor the other guards will not voice their

at home flew by and before I realized it, I needed to be getting ready for bed if I wanted to be rested
for school the next day. As I was laying in bed thinking about how horrible it would be to attend
school in the morning, the woman in the waiting room came to my mind. I thought about all the things
she told me and how a positive mind could make life more positive. For the first time in what seemed
like forever, I decided that going to school did not seem

The Benefit of Thinking Maps and Document Cameras to Our...
Student Population: Our elementary school serves a diverse group of 587 students within the Denver
metro area. 11% of our student population is English Language learners. We now have one document
camera for each grade level, but have found that, with a tool so effective (especially with our English
Language learners), it is difficult to accommodate all students. With the rapid population growth of
both our ELA and 21st century learners, it is becoming increasingly necessary that we expand the
utilization of this tool to help our students connect key vocabulary concepts with visual representation.
Our school expects larger class sizes in 2010 2011. Greater access to this technology is integral to
ensuring that all students experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using the document camera will allow them to demonstrate their thinking to others without expending
valuable class time for transitions. Each document camera purchased will be specifically assigned to
the grade level classrooms that support our ELA students. These students are grouped for the team
teaching model that is supported by our district. The integration of the document camera will be used
in concert with previously installed projectors and whiteboards. The document camera will be used to:
Model specific lessons Analyze student writing Display exemplary student work Use math
manipulatives for whole group modeling Guide reading instruction, making any size of book a big
book. Record movies of scientific demonstrations and experiments. Teachers will collaborate with an
editable wiki, brainstorming new ideas for using the document camera in the classroom. This online
space will help us develop innovative ideas for integration and utilize our people resources within the
building. Teachers will be asked to share at least 3 times during the academic year. Measurable
Outcomes: According to Marzano, the use of non linguistic representations combined with traditional
written/oral language, helps students retain knowledge better. By incrementally releasing the
responsibility of choosing the appropriate Thinking Map to students, our English Language learners
will gain the confidence to organize information,

Weather In Life Of Pi
In literature, weather is a mechanism used to enhance and create mood. In the novel Life of Pi, it is
used successfully in this way. However, Yann Martel s use of weather in the story also portrays the
overwhelming commotion in Pi s subconscious as he undergoes 227 days at sea. The parallels between
the weather and Pi s journey of transcending his safety net, his normalcy, and his childhood are
evident throughout the novel. Weather is a representation of the wholehearted connection Pi has with
nature, as it often accurately represents his thoughts and emotions. Yann Martel uses weather as a
medium to encapsulate the reader and put them in the novel, but also to convey the dire circumstances
of Pi s mind.
In the novel, Yann Martel writes about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stranded at sea for months is not a situation the average Joe finds himself in. The story Yann Martel
tells is very unlikely to have happened to the reader. Therefore the weather is all that the reader can
say they have experienced. It gives them an opportunity to place themselves in the story, in Pi s shoes,
rather than sitting on the sidelines watching from a distance. It allows the author to increase dramatics
in the story while enhancing the meanings behind the situations that Pi is in. Weather intensifies the
erraticness of the sea and how Pi eventually adapts to find normalcy in it. It shows Pi s reliance on
nature and definitely plays in role in saving Pi s

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (CSA)
Sleep apnea is categorize into two different groups; Central Sleep Apnea (CSA) and Obstructive Sleep
Apnea (OSA). Central Sleep Apnea (CSA) is caused by cessations in air flow without respiratory
effort. The CSA cases are extremely rare and often are mixed with Obstructive sleep apnea [1].
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the occasional interruption of breathing during sleep as a result of
periodic airway blockage. It is more common in middle aged adults and preschool children [2].
Obstructive sleep apnea is considered a serious medical condition and millions suffer from OSA
worldwide. Complications may include: hypertension, heart failure, myocardial ischemia, myocardial
infarction, and stroke [3].

War Is A Human Endeavor
War is a human endeavor. Humanity continually pursues solutions to counter evolving threats with the
end of preserving power while also enabling peace. Civilizations resort to war to maintain their
perception of this equilibrium. Defined threats and adversaries have changed throughout history,
however, the essence of human nature and the base concept of conflict itself have not. Carl von
Clausewitz s theories on warfare capture the relationship between humanity and its application of war,
remaining relevant in today s era through their pensive explanations of timeless philosophical
principles regarding the concept of war. These theories regarding war in politics, the key factors
affecting war, and the extent that war is applied are inherently interconnected, providing insight on the
relationships between humanity and its application of war.
One of Clausewitz s most prevalent theories is that war is an instrument of politics, or as stated in his
work On War, When whole communities go to war...the reason lies in some political situation, and the
occasion is always due to some political object. War, therefore, is an act of politics. War in itself as
defined by Oxford dictionary is a state of armed conflict between different nations or states or
different groups within a nation or state. Furthermore, politics is defined by Oxford as the activities
associated with the governance of a country or area, especially the debate between parties having
power. The 1648 Treaty

How Does The Concentration Of Hydrochloric Acid Increase...
Introduction:
The collision theory states that reactions are produced by the collision of particles. Frequent collisions
produce a faster reaction time and release greater energy. This energy is converted into heat and
therefore the temperature can be measured.
There are many factors that can increase the reactivity of an element when mixed with hydrochloric
acid. These include pressure, temperature, surface area and concentration.
The atmospheric pressure of a room affects the reaction rate as it forces the particles closer together
therefore inducing more collisions. The more energy released from the particles raises the
temperature. The higher the concentration of the solutions the more particles there are therefore
making it more likely to collide. The surface area can have an influence on the rate of reaction as the
element had more exposed surfaces, allowing the reactant to collide with the element.
It was known that a reaction had occurred as there was the formation of new substances from the
existing elements such as hydrogen. This was an exothermic reaction as it produced heat which was
another factor contributing to the increased reaction rate.
Variable identification:
The independent variable in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This trend can be observed in the graph above. The lowest concentration of hydrochloric acid was 1
mole and produced an average temperature increase of 18.4°c. This value sat above the line of best fit
and it can be concluded that this is due to the difference between the averages collected from the
groups. There was a range of 4°c which was the greatest difference recorded. The next concentration
tested was 1.5 moles, recording a temperature change of 23.8°c. The temperature change increased by
6.5°c as the concentration increased by 0.5 of a

Examples Of Scapegoat In The Lottery
Scapegoat: A Necessary Convenience of Society
Shirley Jackson s The Lottery shows society s avoidance of change, need for a scapegoat. Each year
people are given a chance to start over. An opportunity to set goals to live healthy, go back to school,
save money, and advance in a current career. With goals comes change, and change is a challenge not
often welcomed in many. Excuses, a personal scapegoat are made to avoid sticking to the change.
Mark Twain took a look at New Year s, as an annual example of promises to oneself, only to find
failure even before the first 30 days are complete. Twain stated, New Year s is a harmless annual
institution, of no particular use to anybody save as a scapegoat for ... Show more content on

It has been present since the beginning of time. Misunderstanding and fear often leads to conditions
where scapegoats are used. People don t often seem to care about the complexities of the world around
them. Instead they want easy answers to problems and a scapegoat is always a convenient out. In The
Lottery we find that the ritual had become so mundane that Tessie Hutchinson had forgotten the
lottery itself. She was late, felt the drawing was unfair because it was hurried and ultimately became
the town s scapegoat by virtue of the draw. As people move throughout life, hopefully they will
remember that convenience is easy. Avoiding change and finding blame with anything is easy. It s also
just as easy to become a

Pretty In Pink Movie
You couldn t buy her, though, that s what s killing you, isn t it? That s it, Steff. She thinks you re shit.
And deep down, you know she s right. When you watch Pretty In Pink by John Hughes a comedy,
romance, and drama film taking place in the 80 s, where there are heartbreaks and reconciliations. The
screenplay for the 1986 movie was written by John Hughes and directed by Howard Deutch. A
teenager Andie Walsh, Molly Ringwald, must choose between her childhood sweetheart Duckie, Jon
Cryer, and a rich boy Blane McDonnagh, Andrew McCarthy. The film Pretty In Pink won the BMI
Film Music Award in 1987 a year after the movie was released.
Andie is a high school senior that has only a father because her mom abandoned them. Andie is a very
talented girl because she makes her own designs of clothes. She has two friends whom she hangs
around with, which is Duckie and Iona. Steff a rich boy confronts Andie as she is getting in her car

Spader makes a huge impact on the movie because in the movie he is Andrew McCarthy s friend and
tells him that he cannot be Andie s boyfriend. The actor Jon Cryer does a great job of being Andie s
friend and nothing else but her friend. In the movie, Jon Cryer fails his classes to spend time with
Andie, waits for her to come out of a club which he cannot go in, defends her when he hears Stef
talking to Blane, and sings a song for her. Jon Cryer has his moments and his jokes in the movie like
in Two In A Half Men. Andrew McCarthy and Molly Ringwald had to be in a relationship because
they come from two completely different worlds but they show that nothing is more important than
love. McCarthy and Ringwald show exactly the acting on the movie about how teenagers react to love
and how they react to breakups. Duckie was very convincing with his acting by showing his emotions

The Plague Of Bubonic Plague
Essays
3. The bubonic plague was a devastating disease that rapidly swept across Europe. Also known as the
Black Death, the plague spread from port to port and started to wipe out entire civilizations. All of
Europe was eventually contaminated, with over two thirds of the population dieing to the infectious
disease. Believed to have started in 1346 when the Mongol armies overtook the Genoese trading
outpost of Caffa on the Black Sea, over half the soldiers on the boat returned dead. The quickness of
the infection and then death, brought a fear to these people they have never witnessed before. The
sudden death caused by the disease created a paranoria among the people that Armageden had arrived.
One of the reasons the bubonic plague spread so quickly, is due to the trade posts that connected
throughout all of Europe. These posts created pathways for the germs and provided travel. The deadly
microbes traveled by the land trails and sea lanes created by the Europeans. The old silk road even
became a breeding ground for the germs. It did not matter which community, class or culture one is
apart of; it infected all. The more populated a city was, the more devastation that ensued. For example,
the city of London was reduced from one hundred thousand people to just around thirty seven
thousand people. This is a massive loss which led to food shortages, work stoppages and unrest among
the survivors. The massive rate of death caused by the Black Death led people to search

  • 2. Eu Union Of The European Union Essay On Thursday, June 23rd, in a history making vote, the people of the United Kingdom decided to leave the European Union, hopefully providing flexibility on a range of issues. For those who back the exit from the EU, the claim is Britain, among other things, will have better business regulations, immigration control, and trade agreements. Ultimately, those in favor of leaving the EU, are seeking an economic and policy independence. EU Member s respective national flags. Photo by: Gordon JohnsonWhat is the EU? The European Union is a union of 28 nations who have relinquished part of their sovereignty to EU institutions such as the European Parliament, European Council, and European Central Bank. Formed in 1993, the EU sought to further improve members economies and establish European free trade. In a deeper effort to unite, the EU also has an official currency that can be used throughout Europe. The currency, called the Euro, is used in 19 of the EU member states which make up the Eurozone. This currency assists in easier spending as it compliments the single market established by the Union. • 3. Cannibalism Exocannibalism In my essay, I would like to discuss cannibalism as a phenomenon in the context of socio cultural anthropology. By exploring some of the cannibal practices prevailing in the tribal societies even until today, I will try to put up a question if this practice is still vivid and functional way how to deal the social order. 1. Úvod Cannibalism, known also as anthropophagy, is one of the slowly vanishing phenomena of the modern world. Even if it is necessarily considered taboo from the western perspective, these practices are in some indigenous societies still part of everyday life. In the past, within some cultures cannibalism was recognized as a barbarism and as a decline of civilization, modern anthropology goes ahead with the debate why cannibalism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of these is survival cannibalism that is the case when people are forced to eat others flesh to keep themselves alive. Quite often cannibalism arises from deviant... disorders. (Donely) One of this type might be autocannibalism, which is defined as eating own flesh. 4. Amazonia Many indigenous tribes currently living in the Amazonian jungle can still practice some forms of cannibalism. An American anthropologist Beth Conclin thoroughly researched cultural habits, rituals and mortuary practices among Wari. Her monography Consuming Grief can then serve as a great primary source for analysis of cannibalism. In the past, amongst Wari people both forms of cannibalism occurred. They practiced warfare cannibalism as well as mortuary, however, no anthropologist has ever seen it live. Details about the rituals itself then only come from the informants. (Conklin, 2001) This fact was actually crucial in the following discussion about denying the existence of cannibalism. When a Wari person passed away, they left the body to decay for around three days and then they gathered to hold a ceremony for the deceased. For the closest kin it was forbidden to take part in the flesh consumption, however, others did this only in order to help them overcome the mourning phase. This very fact put the community together. • 4. Why Was The Great Leap Forward The Great Leap Forward was began 1958.The Great Leap Forward was Mao s try to modernise the economy of China, so that by 1988, China would have an economy that competed with America. Mao had visited China and concluded that the Chinese people were able of anything and the two main tasks that he felt they should target was industry and agriculture. Mao announced a second Five Year Plan to last from 1958 to 1963. This plan was called the Great Leap Forward. The Great Leap Forward planned to develop agriculture and industry. Mao believed that both had to grow to allow the other to grow. Industry could only succeed if the work force was well fed, while the agricultural workers needed industry to produce the modern tools needed for modernisation. In order to achieve this, China was reformed into a series of communities called communes. The changes Mao made in the Second Five Year Plan were significant. The first reason why the Great Leap Forward was significant is because of its impact on the social community of China. A community s size varied however most held about 5000 families. People in a community gave up their ownership of tools, animals etc... so that everything was owned by the community. People now employed for the community and not for ... • 5. Is Euthanasia Wrong An assisted dying law would not result in more people dying, but in fewer people suffering (Selby). Euthanasia, also known as physician assisted death is the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma (Nordqvist). There are many famous cases involving euthanasia. For example, on April 15, 1975, Karen Ann Quinlan lost consciousness after mixing alcohol and the drug Valium, restricting oxygen to her brain( Karen Ann Quinlan ). After several weeks, doctors at St. Clare s Hospital in Denville, New Jersey, say she is in a persistent vegetative state, with irreversible brain damage ( Karen Ann Quinlan ). In August, her parents asked doctors to remove their daughter s respirator. This was the first case of physician assisted death. Another right to die case involved Terri Schiavo. In February of 1990,at the age of 26, Terri Schiavo collapsed at home and oxygen was cut off to her brain for several minutes (Lynne). More recently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All doctors take an oath known as the Hippocratic Oath at the beginning of their career stating that they will do whatever they can for a patient in order to help them, but helping is not always keeping them alive. Ending a person s life upon request with a purposeful goal is hardly a malicious act, therefore it is inaccurate to compare euthanasia to murder (Starks et al.). Another issue that many people see in physician assisted death is that it gives doctors too much power. However, the only power that it gives them is to fulfill someone s final wishes. Another valid point is that vital organs can be saved. There is a long list of people that are in need of a kidney, lung, heart, and liver transplant. However, with physician assisted death the organs can be preserved and be transplanted to someone who has been long waiting for a transplant (Messerli). The film Into the WIld largely encaptures the ideas of Henry David Thoreau, sometimes by quoting him, especially his extremely famous piece Where I Lived and What I Lived For. It is very obvious to the audience that Chris is a fan of Thoreau s writing and he connects to it greatly. The significance of simplistic living is demonstrated throughout the texts and soundtrack of the film. The piece helps the reader understand what Chris is truly feeling and how it is effecting his happiness in extreme ways. The song demonstrates the pressures and difficulties of societies we have greed, to which we have agreed, you think you have to want, more than you need, until you have it all you won t be free (Into the Wild, Eddie Vedder). These few lines exemplify the greed many people show without knowing it, it is demonstrating how people always feel the need for more materials without being grateful for what they already have. It is also showing how people are extremely unhappy when they don t have everything that they want or feel that they need. This piece is extremely important in the film because it perfectly captures Chris s feelings towards the poisoned society and his disgust towards ungrateful and unauthentic people. • 10. Visual Analytic Theories from J. Bertin s Book, Semiology... One of the first theories in the area of Visual Analytics came out in the 60s by J. Bertin (Bertin 1967) and his book Semiology of graphics. His work received a lot of interest especially by cartographers in the beginning and one decade later by J. Mackinlay (Mackinlay 1986). Bertin in his book, uses a systematical approach pro posing seven basic visual variables, also know as visual channels, which can be used to visualize information. (Garlandini and Fabrikant 2009) More specifically, the proposed visual channels are position, size, brightness, texture, color, orientation and shape, which are categorized to planar (such as position and size), and retinal variables (such as brightness, color etc.). Moreover, Bertin uses the channel characteristics to distinguish them into four categories selective, associative, ordered and quantitative. (Bertin 1967; Mackinlay 1986) This categorization was very important, and since then, due to the rapid advancements of research and technology, a significant number of additional visual channels have been identified. In 2013, M. Chen and L. Floridi published a very interesting taxonomy in the philosophy of information, identifying about 27 visual channels divided into four major categories: Geometric, Optical, Topological Relational and Semantic channels. (Chen and Floridi 2013) From this categorization we will choose and discuss some of the visual channels that were not considered by Bertin at that time. It is very interesting that many ... During the early 1990s, I worked as a fulltime employee at Howard University Law School. As a faculty secretary, I edited law professors book manuscripts. I loved raking in my own bacon, and when my husband suggested that I quit working, just to sit inside a classroom, I thought what he said was a joke. I chuckled and I waited for his exuberant smile, but no smile that day. I replied, What! Are you serious? He said, Yes, things will go better for you if you got your college degree. Although I attended a community college after high school (in the 1980s), at age 33, I thought my days to chase higher education were far gone. To stand firm upon what I thought, I was determined to dismiss any ideas to sit inside a college classroom. The same day my husband wanted me to stop working (August 1997); he let me tag along with him as he drove me to my job. The summer morning s aroma of fresh green grass flooded the air. I could feel the hot sunlight, as the rays beamed down upon our car. While we fought our way through rush hour traffic, we finally arrived at my job s main turning entrance. The Stifling Health Concerns Of Dietary Supplements Consumers The lack of regulation in the supplement industry The concoction of deceptive business methods and unrestricted regulations have resulted in detrimental health concerns of dietary supplements consumers. Dietary supplements is virtually unrestricted, and expanding its markets, much like the snake oil medicines of the early 1900s . In 1993, this industry was generating 4 billion a year, by 2003 consumers spent 16.8 billions on supplements, and it is currently at 37 billion a year.(Wingert,1993; Larsen, 2003; Bradley, 2015). This massive industry is gaining popularity from the increasing amount of health enthusiast, and aging population. However due to the introduction of the DSHEA and the limiting of the FDA s regulatory power, this industry has become chaotic, dangerous but highly profitable. Consumers are in danger of ingesting unregulated and potentially dangerous pill, that are marketed to them as nature s cures. The lobbyist and senators pass law in favor of this lucrative industry and it will continue to grow and prospers, until the victimized consumers stand up and strongly voice their opinions. Just like when the industry successfully campaign for supplements and limiting regulations, we consumers should use our democratic voice against the lack of obstacles, and safety measures of supplements. • 15. Science Merit And Scientific Merit Unit 10 DB 1 Concept of Scientific Merit Introduction As future scholars, we tend to hear a lot about Scientific Merit. But, that same old question might pop in our mines, which is should this learner even care or worry about scientific merit? We are told that without any scientific merit, that our research that we have worked so hard on cannot be considered a valid research without it, and if we are at the end part of our schooling/studies, and hope to receive an approval from the IRB for our research proposal, that will not happen if it is missing. Therefore, within this paper, we will discuss scientific merits, explain the dimensions of scientific merit, discuss the aspects of the study that was chosen for the Scientific Merit, and choose an area of scientific merit that we could have improved. Scientific merit Scientific merit is considered as a way to examine if our research study represents good science. Therefore, we will need to make sure that any research we are working on, clearly states the research questions and its overall objectives. The research should also include the contextual data that will also have peer reviewed literature to support why the research is needed. We also should make sure that if human beings are being used as participants, that their privacy and safety will be respected, and if there is any possibility of harm, no matter how small it is, and the benefit and risks whether indirect or direct for the partakers in the study needs to be very ... Rossetti s Jenny and Thomas Hardy s The Ruined Maid. Christina Rossetti s The Goblin Market is a poem that explores through heavy metaphors a woman s place and action in society, whether she is fallen or not. The Goblin Market focuses on two sisters, Laura and Lizzie, and their experience with the goblins that attempt to sell the girls their fruit. Laura, rather curious than afraid of them, gives into their pitch and devours the goblins fruit an act that over a short time ages her and sends her rapidly towards death. In an act of self sacrifice, Lizzie confronts the goblins for fruit for Laura, but they beat and ravage her with their claws and fruit. She returns, giving Laura a second chance at life by eating and drinking the juice and left over pulp from her beating. Is the idea of the aesthetic attitude a misleading way of understanding the aesthetic experience? George Dickie tackles these tough questions in his critique of the aesthetic attitude titled, The Myth of Aesthetic Attitude (which will from now on be referred to as TMAA). In this essay I will discuss Dickies critique of the aesthetic attitude. In the first half I will consider the three main ways Dickie characterizes the aesthetic attitude and explain why he considers it to be a myth. In the second half I will examine the three reasons Dickie believes the aesthetic attitude is a misleading way to understand the aesthetic experience and also explain why I strongly agree with his beliefs. • 21. Similarities Between Castor And Pollux Castor and Pollux were twins born from a single egg, Castor was mortal while Pollux was immortal. The twins were always seen together, even at war. My sister and I are similar to Castor and Pollux because we spend any time that we get with each other. From anywhere in school to at home, we sit next to each other and we stay in our room together. I considered her to be both my best friend and sister. In one variation of the myth, the twin s herd of cattle was taken by their cousins. Upon stealing their cattle from their cousin, Castor was badly wounded and succumbed to death. Pollux asked his father Zeus to give half his immortality to his brother. Zeus agreed under the terms that both twins would spend half eternity in the Underworld and half in Olympus ( Dioscuri ). I made a similar decision as Pollux when he sacrificed his immortality to bring his brother, Castor back to life. I relinquished going to UCR to attend the same University with my sister. Throughout the years, Kelly and I faced our hardship together, and I couldn t stand being away from my sister. In Pollux and Castor tale it shows them taking the same path similar to my story when Pollux sacrificed his immortality, he now must suffer in the Underworld with Castor. That meant he could murder me, because I couldn t trust him, even though he had said Trust me, because he had told a lie about a big thing (Haddon, 122). This shows how Christopher uses his logic instead of reason. Most people in that situation would know that just because your dad killed a dog he would not kill you, but Christopher is more worried about trust. This is because Christopher sees love as mostly, three things, trust, someone who helps you, and someone who cares about you. Since Christopher doesn t trust his dad anymore he thinks his dad doesn t care about him and this is logically thinking. This is logically thinking because he used the facts that were their and added them up as if an equation and made his decision to leave his dad. My name was abruptly called and I kindly thanked the woman who gave me the advice that would change my outlook on just about everything. After talking with the doctor my father and I walked back into the waiting room, where I noticed the kind woman was gone, and exited the building. Hours at home flew by and before I realized it, I needed to be getting ready for bed if I wanted to be rested for school the next day. As I was laying in bed thinking about how horrible it would be to attend school in the morning, the woman in the waiting room came to my mind. I thought about all the things she told me and how a positive mind could make life more positive. For the first time in what seemed like forever, I decided that going to school did not seem ... • 43. The Benefit of Thinking Maps and Document Cameras to Our... Student Population: Our elementary school serves a diverse group of 587 students within the Denver metro area. 11% of our student population is English Language learners. We now have one document camera for each grade level, but have found that, with a tool so effective (especially with our English Language learners), it is difficult to accommodate all students. With the rapid population growth of both our ELA and 21st century learners, it is becoming increasingly necessary that we expand the utilization of this tool to help our students connect key vocabulary concepts with visual representation. Our school expects larger class sizes in 2010 2011. Greater access to this technology is integral to ensuring that all students experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using the document camera will allow them to demonstrate their thinking to others without expending valuable class time for transitions. Each document camera purchased will be specifically assigned to the grade level classrooms that support our ELA students. These students are grouped for the team teaching model that is supported by our district. The integration of the document camera will be used in concert with previously installed projectors and whiteboards. The document camera will be used to: Model specific lessons Analyze student writing Display exemplary student work Use math manipulatives for whole group modeling Guide reading instruction, making any size of book a big book. Record movies of scientific demonstrations and experiments. Teachers will collaborate with an editable wiki, brainstorming new ideas for using the document camera in the classroom. This online space will help us develop innovative ideas for integration and utilize our people resources within the building. Teachers will be asked to share at least 3 times during the academic year. Measurable Outcomes: According to Marzano, the use of non linguistic representations combined with traditional written/oral language, helps students retain knowledge better. By incrementally releasing the responsibility of choosing the appropriate Thinking Map to students, our English Language learners will gain the confidence to organize information, ... • 44. Weather In Life Of Pi In literature, weather is a mechanism used to enhance and create mood. In the novel Life of Pi, it is used successfully in this way. However, Yann Martel s use of weather in the story also portrays the overwhelming commotion in Pi s subconscious as he undergoes 227 days at sea. The parallels between the weather and Pi s journey of transcending his safety net, his normalcy, and his childhood are evident throughout the novel. Weather is a representation of the wholehearted connection Pi has with nature, as it often accurately represents his thoughts and emotions. Yann Martel uses weather as a medium to encapsulate the reader and put them in the novel, but also to convey the dire circumstances of Pi s mind. In the novel, Yann Martel writes about ... Therefore the weather is all that the reader can say they have experienced. It gives them an opportunity to place themselves in the story, in Pi s shoes, rather than sitting on the sidelines watching from a distance. It allows the author to increase dramatics in the story while enhancing the meanings behind the situations that Pi is in. Weather intensifies the erraticness of the sea and how Pi eventually adapts to find normalcy in it. It shows Pi s reliance on nature and definitely plays in role in saving Pi s ... • 46. War Is A Human Endeavor War is a human endeavor. Humanity continually pursues solutions to counter evolving threats with the end of preserving power while also enabling peace. Civilizations resort to war to maintain their perception of this equilibrium. Defined threats and adversaries have changed throughout history, however, the essence of human nature and the base concept of conflict itself have not. Carl von Clausewitz s theories on warfare capture the relationship between humanity and its application of war, remaining relevant in today s era through their pensive explanations of timeless philosophical principles regarding the concept of war. These theories regarding war in politics, the key factors affecting war, and the extent that war is applied are inherently interconnected, providing insight on the relationships between humanity and its application of war. One of Clausewitz s most prevalent theories is that war is an instrument of politics, or as stated in his work On War, When whole communities go to war...the reason lies in some political situation, and the occasion is always due to some political object. War, therefore, is an act of politics. War in itself as defined by Oxford dictionary is a state of armed conflict between different nations or states or different groups within a nation or state. Furthermore, politics is defined by Oxford as the activities associated with the governance of a country or area, especially the debate between parties having power. The 1648 Treaty ... • 47. How Does The Concentration Of Hydrochloric Acid Increase... Introduction: The collision theory states that reactions are produced by the collision of particles. Frequent collisions produce a faster reaction time and release greater energy. This energy is converted into heat and therefore the temperature can be measured. There are many factors that can increase the reactivity of an element when mixed with hydrochloric acid. These include pressure, temperature, surface area and concentration. The atmospheric pressure of a room affects the reaction rate as it forces the particles closer together therefore inducing more collisions. The more energy released from the particles raises the temperature. The higher the concentration of the solutions the more particles there are therefore making it more likely to collide. The surface area can have an influence on the rate of reaction as the element had more exposed surfaces, allowing the reactant to collide with the element. It was known that a reaction had occurred as there was the formation of new substances from the existing elements such as hydrogen. This was an exothermic reaction as it produced heat which was another factor contributing to the increased reaction rate. Variable identification: The independent variable in this ... The lowest concentration of hydrochloric acid was 1 mole and produced an average temperature increase of 18.4°c. This value sat above the line of best fit and it can be concluded that this is due to the difference between the averages collected from the groups. There was a range of 4°c which was the greatest difference recorded. The next concentration tested was 1.5 moles, recording a temperature change of 23.8°c. The temperature change increased by 6.5°c as the concentration increased by 0.5 of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. The Plague Of Bubonic Plague Essays 3. The bubonic plague was a devastating disease that rapidly swept across Europe. Also known as the Black Death, the plague spread from port to port and started to wipe out entire civilizations. All of Europe was eventually contaminated, with over two thirds of the population dieing to the infectious disease. Believed to have started in 1346 when the Mongol armies overtook the Genoese trading outpost of Caffa on the Black Sea, over half the soldiers on the boat returned dead. The quickness of the infection and then death, brought a fear to these people they have never witnessed before. The sudden death caused by the disease created a paranoria among the people that Armageden had arrived. One of the reasons the bubonic plague spread so quickly, is due to the trade posts that connected throughout all of Europe. These posts created pathways for the germs and provided travel. The deadly microbes traveled by the land trails and sea lanes created by the Europeans. The old silk road even became a breeding ground for the germs. It did not matter which community, class or culture one is apart of; it infected all. The more populated a city was, the more devastation that ensued. For example, the city of London was reduced from one hundred thousand people to just around thirty seven thousand people. This is a massive loss which led to food shortages, work stoppages and unrest among the survivors. The massive rate of death caused by the Black Death led people to search ...
