An Argument Against Affirmative Action Essay
Paved with Good Intentions: An Argument Against Affirmative Action Out of the jaws of civil
war, the new United States had emerged. Broken and burning and minus 620,000 men, a new
challenge lay before the nation: social equality. How would we address the sickening grievances
endured by these African American now citizens? That question has hallmarked fiery debates from
dinner tables all the way to the Supreme Court for more than a century. During the Civil Rights
Movement, millions of American citizens demonstrated across the country in pursuit of fairness,
and famously in his I Have a Dream speech, Dr. Martin Luther King championed the idea of a
country that saw no color, but based judgement on the content of character. Through decades of
policy, our government implemented social reform within institutions of education and
employment. Collectively known as Affirmative Action, this social reform established racial
preferences in favor of minority groups at the expense of whites and Asians. This social reform was
unquestionably established in good faith, but into what has this festered now? The pursuit of
fairness is perhaps the most American in spirit, and a goal toward which we all strive together.
Unfortunately, the policies collectively known as Affirmative Action, however well intended, have
further widened the boundaries between us through some ideal of righteous discrimination. The
time has come, it seems, that our government and our nation rethink the policies

Describe how the second industrial revolution of the late...
Describe how the second industrial revolution of the late nineteenth century differed from the first
industrial revolution of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century.
This paper intends to compare the first industrial revolution of the 17th and 18th centuries and the
second industrial revolution of the mid 18th and 19th centuries. It will highlight the transformation
from the first revolution to the second revolution, focusing on the presence of giant firms and role
of science and technology in economic activities. Additionally, it will introduce the two worldly
philosophers Karl Marx and Adam Smith on these issues.
The industrial revolution of 17th and 18th centuries saw the transformation of Britain from a

Not only did the introduction of petrol engines made transportation more faster, it also helped
with the development of the aircraft engine which meant that transportation of good was
efficient. The medical science developed rapidly in 1850s various vaccines were discovered and
x ray facilities were made available to doctors which created a more efficient way of diagnosing
illness. For instance, the 1919 influenza epidermis saw the development of anti flu vaccines which
made a remarkable milestone in the development of drugs. Prior to this discoverer it was common
knowledge for people to blame certain aliment and natural occurrences as a punishment on God for
sins committed e.g. 1755 Lisbon earthquake in Portugal. (Auerbach 2013)
The remarkable element of changes in industrial revolution was the sharp increase in output of the
newly technologically advanced industries. In 1701, the importation of raw cotton for spinning
weight 1 million, however, a drastic increase by 1781 was 5million. Likewise textile technology
by 1784 it was over 11million pound, nonetheless a massive increase by 1799 to 43million.
(Hammond and Hammond 1937, p 162).
The first industrial revolution emerged with small scale of industry which was managed mainly by
the owners. Consequently, Workers and owners had good relationships, but productivity was low.
However, the second revolution emerged with big

The KPIs must relate directly to the organization s stated goals. These are the metrics against
which the organization will be driven to perform in order to measure its success over time. For
example, if your organization s primary goals are to have the field engineer arrive at the customer
site as quickly as possible, complete the repair within the contracted time, and leave the customer
completely satisfied, then you will probably be looking at KPIs reflecting Average Time to
Respond (AVR), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), and various other customer satisfaction metrics and
indices.
How you will maintain performance under varying conditions and contingencies. Give specific
examples.

Alternative Sources Of Energy Essay
In the early 2000 s, the latest view of climate change and its devastating effect on the environment
had scientists, politicians, and the business community worried about the contribution of human
activities from the production of greenhouse gases such as the carbon dioxide emitted by cars. The
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which includes more than 1,300 scientists
from the United States and other countries, has forecasted a temperature rise of 2.5 to 10 degrees
Fahrenheit over the next century (The consequences of climate change, 2016). The explosion of

Persuasive Essay On Virtual Reality
Virtual reality is such a cool concept in technology. It s something that a lot of people are at the
very least intrigued by. Maybe not something that they think about or look up on a daily basis,
but something that they may keep an eye on. I mean Google has sold over 5 million Google
cardboards and has shipped over 10 million of them. For those that don t know what Google
cardboard is, it s a virtual realityplatform that Google made ( a cardboard headset) that you put on
your head that you use in conjunction with your smart phone that can give you a virtual reality
like experience. What you do is download some compatible apps, put your smart into the Google
cardboard. Put it on your head and have some fun. I m very interested in virtual reality and what
the future holds for it. Especially being a person who loves to play video games. I haven t gotten
a chance to get my hands on a Playstation VR yet, but at some point I would love to try it out.
Playstation VR for those that don t know is Sony s virtual reality device that you use with a
Playstion 4. Playstaion has over 100 compatible games with the Playstaion VR and that just
amazes me because it just released back in October of 2016.
Also there was an anime (a Japanese cartoon) that came out a few years back called sword art
online that peaked my interest in virtual reality. Sword art online is set in the near future and
focuses on various virtual reality MMORPG s (Massively Multiplayer Online Role playing games).

SWOT Analysis Of The PESTLE Model
The PESTLE model applies the political economic social technological legal and environmental
climate to assess the effect on the goals and objectives of the practice.
(See Figure 1)
Kurt Lewins force field theory adds demographics and cultural effects to this mix. A SWOT
analysis can be applied in conjunction with these to highlight the strengths weaknesses and the
opportunities and threats that will impact the practice (See Appendix III)
Figure 1
Workforce Management Tools (WFM) are utilised to allocate tasks to individual skills, with time
lines and other parameters. This aims to maximise efficiency and quality of service offered. OFP
ensure that the organisational (National Health Service England NHSE), the team (GP Practice) and
the individual (staff) goals are clear, well managed and aligned. This should maximise efficiency
and quality of service (Valls et al 2009).
The cost of labour (workforce) is a significant cost. The impact if workforce relevant skills are
lacking is an increase in cost and time taken to perform tasks and a decrease in productivity
(Capece and Costa 2009) (Capece and Bazzica 2013).
Reduce cost of labour without compromising quality (Van der Bergh et al 2013) pursue both
simultaneously.
There is distinction between front line and back office activity. Front office (reception staff) have

The Earthquake
The Earthquake
It was a sunny day outside. The heat from the sun was hitting my face as I was painting the hot
summer day onto my canvas. The colors made the image stand out and made it bright. The
yellows added the joy to the picture while the greens freshened up the image. It was burning
outside and my throat felt dry, like the Sahara desert. I reached for my cold cup filled with icy
lemonade. I slowly took the last sip. I felt hydrated as the ice cubes were hitting my lips and
little bits traveling down my throat. My palms were covered in water drops from the cup. I went
back to painting after I dried my hands and gently wiped my lips with a soft napkin. After painting
for awhile I decided to take a small break. I held my cup tightly and ran downstairs with little drops
dripping from the cup. There was just a little bit of lemonade left so I decided to carefully pour the
rest into my cup and head upstairs to my room. As you may know almost everyone has siblings,
including me. While my parents were not home, I was painting my beautiful picture, my older
sister decided to show up. Her name is Jasmine. She s fifteen, with long, brown locks, spring
green eyes, and pale skin with freckles sprinkled on her nose and her rosy cheeks. She was
beautiful but her soul wasn t. I could feel something was up as she bursted through my door. I can
t believe you drank the rest of the lemonade you selfish pig. Ugh I hate you so much. I hope you

Floating Disk Assay Lab
Investigating the temperature effect on rate of oxygen production for the enzyme catalase in the
Hydrogen Peroxide Reaction using Floating Disk assay Experiment
Figures:
Table 1: This is the raw data collected for the measurement of time in seconds on the floating of the
disk assay in nine trials observing four different temperatures. Then, calculated the average, standard
deviation and 95% confidence interval.
Figure 1: This bar graph represents the rate of reaction based on the floating disks in seconds. It
displays the different comparisons between temperatures. It shows 95% confidence interval for
error bars.
Discussion:
When solutions are increased in temperature, there is more kinetic energy, and the molecules speed
up as they transition from liquids to gas. This increased movement of molecules, increases the
collision of molecules which, increases the rate of reactions (1). It was hypothesized that as the
temperature of the hydrogen peroxide increased that rate of reaction with the potato enzyme would
increase until the temperature caused the enzyme to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some possible errors would include inconsistent temperatures that varied by about five degrees,
because of opening the hot bath a lot of heat was lost, as well as, waiting till the end of lab to run
the cold trials so the ice was melted caused a increase of temperature. Human error was another
aspect that affected the data. Since the disk assay was based on observation of when the disk
floated that data probably was not accurate to the exact second to when the disk reached the top of
the solution. Another possible error is that the hydrogen peroxide was left out during the
experiment for example the cold solution was left out the majority of the period. Since hydrogen
peroxide decomposes more in light, this could have played a small role of increasing the reaction

Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner
Ordinarily, pieces of literature show scenes of violence. These events are not just placed
haphazardly; often times, these predicaments are intricately set to build the meaning of the work.
Wighout this kind of violence, some points in the novel would be hard to comprehend. In Khaled
Hoseini s The Kite Runner, multiple cases of compulsion are demonstrated. Khaled Hosseiniuses
symbolism and sense of mood during these situations contribute to the understanding of his literary
work. Chapter seven of the novel opens somewhat normal, with two young boys, Amir and Hassan,
preparing for the annual kite running tournament. When the boys win the contest, an air of
jubilance and carelessness comes over Amir and Hassan. Hosseini describes the... Show more

Moreover, throughout his whole life, Amir feels the need to be repented for his past mistakes.
When Amir gets the notorious call from Rahim Khan and asked upon his arrival to save Sohrab,
Amir first denies but then accepts the fact that this may be his only chance to redeem himself.
Amir finally finds the place where Sohrab is and is coincidentally confronted by Assef. The fight
scene here is brutal, and full of bloodshed. However, rather than feeling pain, Amir feels at peace
, healed , and satisfied. Overall, the scene is relieving and peaceful, at least for Amir. At the
time, Amir s pain makes him feel happy by suffering. Though Assef brings a mood of obscurity,
Amir s recent catharsis brings about one of relief. Throughout the whole fight, Amir knows that
he really isn t going to win; but, winning was not the goal. When Amir decides not to rin from
Assef, he welcomed the pain rather than running away from it as he did early on in the novel.
Amir feels as though this is the punishment that he deserved because of his unfaithfulness to
Hassan. This is the motive behind Amir s laughter during the fight. Upon going to the hospital
after the fight, the doctor tells Amir that he has a scar splitting his upper lip, which ends up being
similar to Hassan s. When Amir s scar surfaces, it shows the equality between Amir and Hassan.
His whole life, Hassan was seen of a lower status because his family couldn t afford to get it

BIG DATA
It refers to the large set of data or in other words large volume of data (Data can be both structured
and unstructured).
Structured data: This type of data is written in a format that s easy to understand by the machine
and easily searchable by applying some basic algorithms. Example:phone number, spreadsheet.
Unstructured data: This type of data is like human language which will not fit nicely into relational
database like SQL. Example: emails, text documents(PDF,word docs, etc). How big can be data.
Let me explain this by taking an example of photos, suppose in a family there are 4 member and
each member have storage of 2gb(gigabytes) in 2011 and in 2017 the same family have storage of
10gb per person just for photos. In the

Let take an example of climate condition.
In order to deal with climate condition i.e to get the temprature of every year, we make use of
MapReduce.
MapReduce work by breaking the process into two parts i.e map phase and reduce phase. Each
phase has key value pairs as input and output.
The input to our map phase is raw NCDC(Natinal
Climatic Data Center) data. We choose a text input format that gives us each line in dataset as a text
value.
Map function is simple as it take out the year andthe temperature only because our focus is only
this two fileds. Here map function is act as preparing phase, where is set up the data in such a way
that reduce function can do it s job on it i.e finding the maximum temperature of the year.
Let take an example in order to understand it in a better way that how mapreduce works.

The Silhouette Of A Human
The silhouette of a human is simple to identify. It is the anonymity of darkness that envelops the
interior of the silhouette that provokes fear, and most of all, concealment. Within the brush outside

ominous manner. Edward was geared up with his weapons and apparel, and just awaiting an
opening within the mansion. There were always a few securityguards posted up around the sides of
the large residence, and there were an excessive amount posted in the front and back of the
mansion. Edward was staring intently at the guards, patiently waiting for one of them to slip up.

Mood Of Homeless Wanderer
Hopeless Wanderer
Analysis of mood and tone:
The tone of this song is a mixture of solemn, fear, lost and personal. The speaker is utterly
expressing the fear of his commitment through his protectiveness of his feelings and being hurt

could see a new start which blatantly expresses his personal experience of being left with a
broken heart and a foggy mental state of mind, but he knows that they can try once again to make

do not look deep into the meaning of the words, it makes this song appeal as if it is any other

Superhero Influence On American Culture
Comic book industries have been the main establishers for the new American youth culture. This
has also been well used to settle a cultural representation for communism, wartime propaganda, and,
to those adults who thought their child acting rude was caused by comics, a sign of the decline of
comic books, thus making the industry fall into consensus and conformity. Ever since the first
comic book was created in the 1930 s, Americans have been greatly influenced because of its vast
enjoyment. Whether from romance to war or justice to crime, comic books have forever changed
popular culture and can definitely portray how, at different times in U.S. history, people understood
and interpreted events around the globe. This becomes apparent in the film Comic Book

This documentary briefly expresses the values and the ideologies during the difficult time
period during World War II, along with America s role in the war. This is without forgetting the
role women took in American society by portraying Wonder Woman, a woman who is a
superhero, and how it completely influenced women of all ages by providing a sense of gender
equality. Not only was Wonder Woman extremely influential, but also other superheroes such as
Captain America became a huge part of World War II. Captain America is one of the superhero
icons of the World War II era because, as the documentary described, it depicted what a true
American soldier was and how in that time most fathers went to war, kids constantly thought of
Captain America as how their father was in the war. This is just some of the ways the introduction
of comic books into people and modern popular culture overall were greatly influenced. Another
topic that captivated me greatly was how real comic book fanatics became great collectors of these
comics. This was eventually caused by the increase of the paper drives in the

Interpreting Dinosaur Habitats
1) How are sedimentary rocks used to interpret past dinosaur habitats? How is the geologic principle
of uniformitarianism used for this type of interpretation?
Sedimentary rocks interpret dinosaur habitats through encased environmental structures of the past.
Through sedimentary rocks, paleoecologists can examine the arranged formation of sedimentary
structures to specify what type of environment the dinosaurs lived in. An example of a specific
sedimentary rock structure can be seen through formed weathering and ripple marks by how wind
and sand formed distinct patterns in the past layered sediment. These arrangements provide
interpretations on the structure of the sediment and the habitat of encased fossils, through modern

Ichnology, the study of trace fossils, is the principal study in following and learning about trace

Dangerous Liaisons, Cruel Intentions is a mature and often shocking look at a potential realistic
situation played up as a fantasy tale that offers a sickening example of the moral decay present in
our society. Morals seem to change from generation to generation, and as time goes on it seems
that at one time what was disgusting and immoral in our society is now second nature and pure

Homeland Security And Infrastructure (NPPD)
When people think of Homeland Security most people think of Border Protection, Immigration
agents, TSA, and maybe FEMA but there are many more aspects of Homeland Security which often
get overlooked. When the Department of Homeland Security was established in 2002, there were
22 different Federal agencies which were combined and absorbed into this one department. This
consolidation was intended to streamline the exchange of information and cooperative efforts
towards the mission of securing this nation. This vision of cooperation has helped create a safer
environment in the United States, and helped prepare emergency personnel in the detection,
prevention, and response to both natural and man made disasters. As part of the cooperative effort...

Cell Phones Are Ordinary Today
Cell phones are ordinary today. Very nearly everybody has one. My grandma conveys an iPhone
and my dad a man who once swore he d never convey a telephone with him anyplace slaps a
Samsung Galaxy S III with an OtterBox case on his hip each morning. It wasn t generally so. I
was the main individual at my secondary school educators and organization included with a cell
phone. To start with, I had the Moto Q, then the BlackBerry Pearl 8130, trailed by the Curve
8330. Furthermore, that is the place my story started, in 2006, taking lesson notes (read: playing
Brick Breaker and Asteroids) on an incredible QWERTY console about a large portion of the
palm s extent of my hand. Trust it or not, cell phone history backtracks over 10 years before that.
Things were ... intriguing in those days. In the first place, what is a cell phone? Turns out, the
real definition, regardless of the source, is very ambiguous. Merriam Webster compactly calls a
cell phone a PDA that incorporates extra programming capacities (as email or an Internet
program). Oxford Dictionaries, then again, gets somewhat more exact by saying a cell phone has
the capacity perform a hefty portion of the elements of a PC, commonly having a moderately
expansive screen and a working framework equipped for running universally useful applications. In
any case, there is an almost negligible difference between what is and isn t a cell phone nowadays,
regardless of the fact that the purported moronic or

The Benefits Of Motorcycle Bluetooth Helmet
Motorcycling may be the cheapest form of transportation for some people, but in developed
countries it is a form of grandeur. People have different reasons for riding a motorcycle but
whatever it may be, wearing a helmet is a necessity. Communication is also essential while enjoying
your trip and that s why we have motorcycle Bluetoothhelmets and motorcycle headphones today.
Most riders purchase a Bluetooth helmet for protection, communication, music, GPS, and comfort.
Motorcycle Bluetooth Helmet Options
When it comes to purchasing a motorcycle communications system, we should know the important
criteria to look for. There are Bluetooth capable devices designed for any motorcycle helmet, as well
as helmets with built in Bluetooth equipment. Bluetooth devices come with lithium batteries that
are enduring and rechargeable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should be able to connect with all kinds of phones and devices most especially the current one
you are using. Noise cancellation features and range count as well. Its range should at least reach
167 yards while still sounding crystal clear.
Other Benefits of a Motorcycle Bluetooth Helmet
The main benefit and the initial purpose we use Bluetooth devices is the freedom it provides by
hands free communication. They also feature GPS navigation control and associate with the
motorcycle headphones accurately so there s no need to pull off on the road. And because of the
Bluetooth technology, the problem in using these devices like environmental noise has been
eliminated too. In addition, a voice prompt is another feature which makes them interactive and
more efficient to use.
An added benefit in using a motorcycle bluetooth helmet is the clear music. Since bluetooth
technology can be connected to almost any advanced media like MP3, it allows the biker to
appreciate the music and enjoy driving even more.

their downfalls, one passenger that may have had a bad experience, may make a comment on the

The Privacy Of The Patriot Act
Privacy
The misuse of our personal information collected by private and public institutions has made
privacy, or the lack of it, a major societal concern today. One of the biggest reasons privacy has
become such an issue is the enactment of the Patriot Act , signed into law in reaction to the
attacks on 9/11/2001. This act broadened the ability for the US government to collect surveillance
on people in order to protect against terrorism inside the US. Critiques say it violates our civil
liberties and undermines our democracy. One example of this is the collection and storage of phone
data by the government under the Patriot Act. Is this an invasion of privacy? In order to keep society
safe, a certain amount of private information has to be known by Law Enforcement. In order to
collect taxes and for society to function, the government also needs some information. Collecting
basic information isn t an invasion of privacy, but the collection phone data is too intrusive. Can the
public trust the government to not miss use or lose the information they have on them?
The government and major companies have frequently leaked and misused the public s
information. For example, in Ted Koppel s 2005 article on Take My Privacy, Please! , he mentions
how Bank of America lost personal information on about 1.2 million federal government
employees, including some senators. LexisNexis unintentionally gave outsiders access to personal
files on over 310,000 people. Time Warner

In his argument he mentions the debate about artificial insemination, which raised social and legal
problems. The sperm donor might be the husband or just an anonymous man, but whether the
husband or not, the sperm donor was never approved to be the legal or proper father as the
reproduction procedure was not taken place naturally. In fact, it was recommended to be made as
a criminal offence in 1948, by a commission set up by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Therefore
the child born from this procedure has an ambiguous status, or considered illegitimate. It is then
made obvious that the husband of the woman, who raised the child, still has no rights or duties
over him/her. These rights, in some way, belongs to the sperm donor, such that if the mother
registers her husband to be the father of the child, even if he is not, she would be, of course,
committing a crime as only if the husband is genetically the father, would he be considered
legitimate. Some who are against this procedure is particularly against for the reason that the
husband would have not played his role in the procreation of the child, therefore considered as a
bad thing to do. Although such objections were raised, the committee of Warnock still remained in

The Last Lesson, By Alphonse Daudet
In the short story written by Alphonse Daudet, The Last Lesson starts off with a young boy with
the name of Franz in which he is contemplating wither he should do the right thing and go to
school, or skip school and go spend the day out in the woods with the birds and animals. Franz
frantically decided to go to school, even though he was already late. As Franz hustled to school,
he had no clue that it was going to be the last time he would be going to school before everything
changed. Franz, along with the people of the town were notified that it would be the last day
that the school that this town revolved and grew up around, would no longer be the same. As
the towns people realized that their school that they grew up in and the only school their kids
have ever attended was being taken over by Berlin, and the German language. Most of the one s
that felt like they should show respect for which they did not show to the school when they were
younger, came and sat in the last French class that would ever be held inside of the school. The
amount of respect the town had for the school and for the teacher, Mr. M. Hamel, showed how
much the small things that someone might not like at the moment, might later realize was the
biggest impact on their life s. When the French and Prussia War first began, The Prussians were

Gender Stereotypes In Disney Movies
People grow up conditioned to believe heavily in gender roles. One of the major contributors to our
way of thinking is the media. Many young children watch Disney movies, through which, they learn
how certain actions affect how they are seen; even material goods like clothes becoming symbolic
of not only genderroles but status. At that age, people are easily influenced by the information
that is presented in front of them. What little girl didn t dream of being a Disney Princess? What
little boy didn t want to be a brave saviour? Girls are taught to want to be damsels in distress,
waiting for their princes to come and rescue them. They are taught to be feminine and use their
body in an exclusively seductive (and arguably, provocative) way.... Show more content on

Aladdin has the typically muscular physique, the only thing he wore as a shirt was a purple vest.
Aladdin s body type doesn t actually make any sense for someone who was a street rat who had to
steal to eat. The male body doesn t get as much interest as the female body, but the media, like the
female body, also presented the ideal male body that should be attained. Aladdin is muscular and
fit, is the protagonist, the good guy whereas Jafar, a skinny and bonelike figure is the antagonist,
the bad guy . Even the king, who is short and rounded is an obstacle for Aladdin and Jasmines
romance up until the very end. This indicates that the ideal body type Aladdin teaches boys, is to
be muscular and fit and that no other body type is acceptable. This is also tragic in that in today
s media, female body type is touched upon (not as much as it should), but the struggle for men is
completely ignored so there are many men who struggle in silence, because it is also deemed
feminine to be a damsel in distress and require assistance. This vicious cycle affects men on a daily

We were first tasked to create a sound piece in groups of 6 depicting what happened from when
Jo and Judy left the bar up to the accident. There was a moment after the opening when Jo and
Judy were reversing, an impression created through Actor 1 s beep sound effect. The beeping
got faster continuously, and Actor 2 (Jo) shouted Judy slow down a bit! before they started to
laugh. The beeping that gradually got faster suggested that the car was going to crash into
something, before their laughter breaks the tension and gives the scene an anti climax. This
suggests that they are in a drunken state, because people would not usually be laughing at the
prospect of crashing their car. This also efficaciously foreshadows the tragic accident that occurs
later. To further build up the tension, Actor 1 could have walked towards the audience as he
performed the sound effect to suggest that the car was crashing into them. For Task Two we
were required to add movement to the piece. A section near the end portrayed the accident as it
happened. Actors 2 and 3(Judy) were sat on blocks behind two tables, symbolizing the front of
the car. Actor 1 and I crouched on either side of the tables wearing white masks and right after

political passion and voice to convince the powerful politicians at the Second Virginia Convention
that England was violating its citizen s rights, and if specific measures were not taken, like forming

To appeal to them emotionally, he focuses on their pride, something people tend to care highly
about. He likens England s grip on the colonists to slavery, There is no retreat but in submission
and slavery! Our chains are forged! , to make his audience think about how powerless they are to
England in that moment. He implies that England is taking away what they believe should be
their free will to govern on their own behalf (Henry 2). No one wishes to relinquish control of his
own life and turn it over to someone else and therefore this becomes a matter of pride. He urges
the men not to allow their voices to be silences by any form of government. By exclaiming [the
chains] clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston he notes that England is making a public
mockery of the colonists, and the whole country will be aware of their failure if they refuse to
stand up for themselves. He again speaks to the men s pride when he notes They tell us, sir, that
we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary (Henry 2). He knows the men do not

Feasibility And Merit Criteria For Our Recycling Program
The facility would contain an office area for the Sustainability Supervisor, a paid employee of
Mercer University who would be responsible for the recycling and sustainability efforts at Mercer
University. They would oversee interns responsible for maintaining and updating the website as
well as student workers who would sort recyclable materials. It would be outfitted with three
computers, office furniture, and a solar compactor. Collected recyclables would be taken to that
facility to be sorted, compacted and housed. With the creation of a sustainabilityoffice, we would
be able to increase the amount of recyclable waste that could be stored on campus and simply take
the material to Atlanta, directly, after it was capable of filling the truck. This would decrease the
amount of trips taken downtown to the Macon recyclingcenter and increase Mercer s independence

The Bias Of Law Enforcement Officers
The implicit bias of law enforcement officers to perceive White Americans as innocent, and non
White Americans as criminals, has lead law enforcement officers to profile non White Americans.
This is an example of white privilege because white offenders are virtually immune to being
suspected of drug use. And because law enforcement officers do not suspect white peopleof drug use
in proportion to the number of them that actually use drugs, they do not arrest white drug users
accordingly. Moreover, court officials do not charge white offenders proportionately. Thus,
disproportion in incarceration rates is a form of racial inequity. If white people used their privilege
to advocate for non white people we could eliminate this racial inequity. But first, we must take
steps to educate white children on white privilege. Only then can white children use their privilege
to advocate for non white people. How then, specifically, does educating white children on white
privilege work?
Educating white children on white privilege is not as straightforward as it may seem. One study in
the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology suggests that when presented with evidence of
white privilege, white people actually respond with denial on the basis of personal hardships
(Phillips, Lowry 12 18). The study also stated that understanding privilege, requires a comparison to
someone of another group membership with the same life circumstances (Phillips, Lowry 12 18). If

Speech On Birth Control Pills
In 1950, Gregory Pincus and John Rock developed the first birth control pill. The pill is made of
synthetic hormones like the ones that occur naturally in your body. Women can regulate their

Before safe and effective contraception was developed women in ancient times used their own
forms of barriers to prevent pregnancy. These included potions, charms, herbal recipes, and
chants. These recipes were mostly made of harsh materials that killed many women trying to
control their fertility. Later birth control developments were based on more accurate information

is a daily pill that contains hormones to change the body in order to prevent pregnancy. The
hormones in the pill, estrogen and progestin, control the ovaries and the uterus. The pill prevents
pregnancy by stopping ovulation, thickening the mucus around the cervix, and thinning the
lining of the uterus. Birth control pills come in either a twenty one day pack or a twenty eight
day pack. One pill is taken each day around the same time for twenty one days. Depending on the
pack a woman is prescribed, she will either stop taking birth control pills for seven days or will take
a pill that contains no hormones for seven days. During those seven days a woman will get her
period. There are two different kinds of pills. The

This becomes more evident when Moses marries, Zipporah, a woman from the Midianites

the death of Moses at the hands of G d may be a way of sending a message to the people of Israel.
By killing Moses, the leader of the people for the past 40 years, G d is communicating to the
people that even someone with very little Egyptian heritage doesn t deserve to live in the

hypothesis would argue that Moses was killed by G d purely to send a message to the people of

On an average, large amount of fast foods consumed on a daily basis, leads to the deterioration of
an individuals bodily health over time. Consuming more fruits, vegetables and healthy foods, will

Video Games Should Be Legal
Violent video games have been a source of controversy since 1976. Though there are many issues
surrounding these games, there is one that is quite fickle: whether or not the descriptions for
violent video games should be more thorough and if parents or adults should be able to purchase
violent video games for minors. There should be more descriptive ratings and adults should not be
allowed to buy video games for minors, because the ratings and descriptions now are not very
thorough, and minors can still get access even though regulations have been put in place.
Violence and other inappropriate material has been a pinnacle of popular video games over time.
For most a video game is just that, a game, but for others and those in the media ... Show more

One important instance in video game history was the formation of the ESRB. That is the
Entertainment Software Rating Board and they are responsible for giving video games ratings
based on what is in them. This was formed due to Congressional hearing in 1993 where the main
focus was two controversial video games. It was formed to deflect potential video game
regulation by the government as its own entity (NCAC). This allowed for the very controversial
game Mortal Kombat to stay in stores. This was a fighting game that was the first to feature real
lifelike violence. It not only featured blood and gore, but also more realistic looking characters.
The premise of the game was, the player would pick a character and fight other characters to the
death, whichever character won gained the ability to perform a finishing move that was very brutal
and involved some form of mutilation to the other character. This was the main aspect that had
people in uproar. Though due to the formation of the ESRB Mortal Kombat remained in stores.
After the formation of the ESRB, there were still instances of uproar over video game violence. In
1997 Jack Thompson files the first of many lawsuits that claims violent video games are responsible
for violence in teens (NCAC). This suit was brought about due to the shooting that happened at
Heath High School that year. Though the biggest action taken against

Description Of Person Centered Theory
Lien Hua a sixteen year old first generation Chinese American. Hua came to the school social
work counselor complaining of feeling stressed. Hua explained that she is interested in pursuing
social work when she goes away to college, however, her parents would like her to either practice
medicine or law. She reported that just thinking of talking to her parents regarding her career
choice is causing her immense stress. As a result of the stress she reports that her grades have
dropped and she is socializing less. Hua has requested that the school social workertell her what to
say to her parents to help them understand her choice.
Overview of Person Centered Theoretical Approach
Person Centered Theory (PCT) was cultivated by Carl Rogers from the 1940 s through the 1950 s
(Walsh, 2013). He first developed person centered therapy, infusing Functional and Humanistic
views, consequently, person centered theory followed. Rogers authored four books expounding on
the therapy (Walsh, 2013). Person Centered Theory is a nondirective humanistic client centered
approach, which regards the client and the social worker as contemporaries (Joseph Murphy, 2013).
The client is the authority on their life and the social worker is there to offer unconditional positive
regard, which fosters growth in sections that are important to the client (Joseph Murphy, 2013) .
The primary theoretical underpinning embraced by the theory is embodied in actualizing tendency,
which Rogers viewed as

Huber (2006, p154) states that clinical decision making in nursing relates to the quality of care
the patient receives and how competent the nurse is. Over the past 30 years nursing has evolved
from a task oriented to a logical and systematic approach to care, using theories and models to
guide practice. According to Jasper (2007, p117) theories of decision making in medicine tend
to favour logical, precise analytical models which are held to be testable, unambiguous and
repeatable, therefore satisfying scientific principles. These represent important ideas of certainty
and rationality that are intended to provide a sense of security and reliability. When used
correctly a nursing model should give direction to nurses working in a particular area, as it
should help them understand more fully the logic behind their actions. It should also act as a
guide in decision making and so reduce conflict within the team of nurses as a whole. This in turn
should lead to continuity and consistency of the nursing care received by patients according to
Pearson et al (1999,p ). Banning (2008, p ) states knowledge for decision making is obtained from
many sources and has been described as both informative

A Month And A Day By Ken Saro Wiwa
Environmental injustice is a crucial topic in Ken Saro Wiwa s novel, A month and a Day. Saro
Wiwa. This will be the text that will be closely read and analyzed. I will also be discussing the
video from Blackboard week 5, which is examined in Saro Wiwa s novel and his life story. In
this novel, Saro Wiwa discusses the harm that is occurring due to the oil exploration. The violent
and corrupted government allows this harm to the locals and the environment. Some locals even
stand up to the oil companies, and are paid to protect the oil barrels (Blackboard Video Week 5).
Chevron and Shell are the two oil companies that are entwined in the history written by Saro Wiwa.
Corruption is displayed in Saro Wiwa s Diary. Corruption against the environment, Local corruption,
Government corruption, Since it began producing oil in earnest in 1956, Nigeriahas become the
poster child for the environmental, social, and economic devastation that can be wrought by
unfettered fossil fuel production (Watts 1). The author of A Month and A Day, Ken Saro Wiwa

Sun And Appropriate Hypothesis
Abstract
This experiment is useful since it indicates how sunlight, one of the environmental factors affect
plants. The effects of sun and shade on stomata density of Tsuga heterophylla plant were
investigated. The dependent variable was stomata density, and the independent variable was
sunlight (sun and shade). The stomata impressions were made by using the nail polish to inscribe
the stomata on the leaves bottom. The imprint was applied in the calculation of leaf stomata density.
A t test was used to compare the results between two variables (sun and shade). A significant
difference of stomata density was observed between the leaves in the sun and shade. The leaves in
the sun had the highest stomata density than the leaves in the shade.
Introduction
Sunlight provides energy for all organisms. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How sun and shade affect the stomata density. The following questions were asked;( 1) can sun
increase the stomata density? (2) Can shade increase stomata density? (3) Is it true that both shade
and the sun increase stomata density? It was hypothesized that the stomata density was greater in
the sun than in the shade. In this experiment, one plant species (Tsuga heterophylla) was assessed.
Tsuga heterophylla is an evergreen coniferous plant.
Methods
Site description
Tsuga heterophylla was collected from Tongass National Forest. Tongass National Forest is located
in Southwest Alaska in the United States of America. It is the largest national forest in the USA.
The forest is part of temperate and Pacific rain forest. The experiment was performed at this site
between 9.00am to 4.00pm.
Field sampling
Twelve of Tsuga heterophylla plants from sun and shade were collected. Compass was used to
determine west and east; this was conducted to find the sunlight path to determine whether there
were objects blocking sunlight from reaching the plant leaves. Two light meters were used to
measure shade and sun leaves.

Karl Popper s Philosophy Of Science
When one gets asked, what is science? The answer may seem straightforward: biology, physics,
chemistry, etc. However, asking the same question to a philosopher, the answer is completely
different. In other words, Philosophers are not asking for a mere list of sciences but, are seeking to
answer one specific question: What is it that makes something a science. In further detail, the
Philosophy of science is a branch of philosophy concerned with the foundations, methods, and
implications of science. Therefore, the three main questions are: what qualify as science, how
reliable are scientific theories, and what is the ultimate purpose of science. This discipline
overlaps with metaphysics, ontology, and epistemology, for example, when it explores the
relationship between science and truth. In addition to these general questions about science as
a whole, philosophers of science consider problems that apply to particular sciences (such as
biology or physics). In this essay, I will be introducing and discussing Karl popper s philosophy
of science and its criticisms. To begin, Karl popper s philosophical view of science is often
referred to falsificationism, something to be proven false. This is shown through this example: If
Socrates is a god, then Socrates is immortal. Socrates is not immortal. Therefore, Socrates is not a
god. In other words, Popper s philosophy of science is that scientific knowledge progresses by a
series of conjectures and refutations; these

The Problem Of Defective Yoga Pants
Background: This case study analysis will define the problem of defective yoga pants products,
corporate corruption, and the growing media conflict of weigh shaming in the sizes 2 12 limits

these major defects of yoga pants products and corporate unethical decision making processes.
The Problem: Lululemon has a growing reputation for making defective yoga pants (due to
sheerness and see through ), which has made it necessary tore call these products from the retail
markets. More so, various customers were upset with the neglect of corporate management to
effectively address and respond to the low quality material of the yoga pants. In some cases,
women s yoga pants were sheer enough to be see through when the material was stretched.
Customers were then asked to bend over in the store for store employees/managers to ensure that
the pants had, in fact, were see through due to sheerness (Lululemon Athletica Inc. 2014, p.7). This
caused embarrassment and anger from customers that perceived they were experiencing low
quality customer service. Lululemon also responsible limiting their yoga pants in the 2 12 size

Control: A sole proprietor has total control of the company and they make all the good decisions
and they must deal with decisions that did not turn out the way they intend. The other notable
factor in being a sole proprietor of a business is what would happen to the business if the owner
became ill or died; typically the business would stop operations based on the structure and debts
would need to be resolved as well as customer commitments would need resolving based on the
type of business. Profit Retention: In addition to reaping the profits from the business, the sole
individual is also responsible for all debts incurred and for paying expenditures of the business.

American Imperialism
Although imperialism was certainly driven by the desire for economic gain, trade, and the demand
for new raw materials, it is a bit unfair to contend that imperialism was driven by only economic and
strategic interests; likewise, imperialism was greatly impacted by non economic concepts such as
nationalism, civilization, and cultural diffusion. Nevertheless, Imperialismis defined as the policy
of expanding a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military force.
Firstly, imperialism was heavily affected by imperialism, especially in its initial stages. Many
imperialist nations during the age of expiration sought to conquer islands before their competitors
could. For instance, countries such as Spain and Portugal competed to see ... Show more content on

European powers additionally clung to the racist belief that inferior races should be conquered in
order to civilize and educate them. Another instance of conquests based on ethnocentrism include
that of the United States and the Philippine islands. Imperial nations often believed that their
cultural values/beliefs were far more superior, and thus they believed that imperial conquest would
bring successful culture to these inferior people. In other words, the Europeans acted on their
ethnocentrism, the belief that one race/nation is superior to others. As for the US invasion of the
Philippine islands, the Americans actions are depicted in a poem named The White Man s Burden
that justifies imperialism as a noble enterprise of civilization, conceptually related to the American
Philosophy of Manifest Destiny. As for manifest destiny, it was a widely held belied in the United
States that its settlers were destined to expand across North America. This concept is illustrated
through 3 basic themes: 1) The special virtues of the American people and their institutions. 2) The
mission of the United States to redeem and remake the west in the image of agrarian America. This
is seen in the Spanish American war, whereby the United States ended Spanish colonial rule in the
Americas and resulted in U.S. acquisition of territories in the Western Pacific and Latin America.
Following this conflict, the Americans took over Cuba and created a naval base, believing that
Cuba owed them for freeing them from the

Does Harper Lee Present The Prejudicial Issues In To Kill...
Harper Lee s To kill a Mockingbird explores the prejudicial issues which plague over the town
Maycomb. Harper Lee uses the trial of Tom Robinson a black man accused of rape on a young
white girl, Mayella as a central theme to portray the prominence of racial discrimination in
Maycomb. The racial prejudice is also widely shown through the characterisation of Atticus. Having
Scout as the narrator allows Harper Lee to highlight the gender inequity through a youthful
unbiased perspective. The chauvinistic attitudes and prejudiced views of most of the town s folk
leaves Maycombs social hierarchy in an unfair order, victimising many of the town s people due to

Harper Lee demonstrates the gender inequity In to Kill a Mockingbird through the description and
words of the female narrator, Scout. The prejudice of Maycomb is shown so clearly, even an
innocent child like Scout can see the raging extent of gender prejudice that surrounds her. Scout
having traits that are more masculine in quality automatically makes her an outcast and disliked
by Maycomb s many conforming ideals. Scouts innocence allows the novel to develop through
an unbiased perspective. Women had little to serve in juries and there was the constant
expectation all women had to act and dress like a Lady. Aunt Alexandra an evident example of
having strong beliefs on how separate genders should behave, constantly scolding Scout for
wearing her overalls and behaving too tomboyish. I was not so sure, but Jem told me i was being
a girl, that girls always imagined things, thats why other people hated them so, and if i started
behaving like one i could just go off and п¬Ѓnd some to play with. (4.119) Scout is raised to
believe boys were better than girls, raised in a bigoted and heavily bias community, scout п¬Ѓnds it
a difficult and unfair experience trying to understand the unjust perceptions of the adults around
her. Having Scout narrate the whole novel allows Harper lee to highlight the gender inequity in
Maycomb.
Harper lee demonstrates the social inequity through Boo characterisation and Maycombs peoples
rigid behaviours and socially discriminating codes.

Vince Gilligan s Breaking Bad
Back home I only thought Albuquerque was just another city with nothing to show for. That
changed once I started watching the TV series Breaking Bad. The TV show was created by
Vince Gilligan released in 2008, Genre being crime, drama, thriller, rated MA (mature audience).
Starting Bryan Cranston as Walter White, Aaron Paul as Jesse Pinkman. I m going to review the
first episode called Pilot in season 1 and episode 4 called Cancer Man as well. The elements that I
will be focusing on is the actor s roles on how they preform, art direction, dialogue, editing and how
the show changed my view of Albuquerque.
The first episode kicks off with a wild plot that I didn t expect to happen so quickly in a TV show.

The cloths they were really depict the different life styles they have. Walter which is 50 years
old and is a teacher has cloths that show he is just a regular civilian in Albuquerque struggling
with life. While Jesse always has baggy cloths which pretty much says he is not formal at all.
The transitions weren t choppy at all, they were very smooth and even when they started cooking
meth the shots were speed up and chopped to speed up the cooking process. It wasn t bad
especially with music they had for that part was great. The plot was not predicable at all I enjoyed
the introduction of Breaking Bad. Every time I think of my chemistry teacher I think maybe he or
she is making meth after school too.
Episode 4 is called Cancer Man which has a good wide shot of the whole family eating together
capturing them eat and talk about random things. Then Walter tells everyone that he has cancer
which then all you heard was birds chirping and made the tone really sad and shocking. Jesse
really does a great job acting as a meth head and sells as being under the influence of meth. The
tripping out scene is really interesting and fun to watch since the music that plays sets the tone that
he is having a bad trip on the meth. Other

The Pursuit Of Truth By Willard Van Orman Quine
Published in 1982, Willard Van Orman Quine wrote an epistemological book title, The Pursuit of
Truth. Quine ranges from different aspect, from evidence to reference, in his quest to gain
epistemological truth from science. This is a short summary of the book s contents then the latter
half of the paper is critique and review of the book and Quine s points within. In the first chapter
Quine, deals with the evidence and all things pertaining to it. He starts the chapter with the point
that evidence is based on sensory experience and that this combined with past experiences can
predict evidence of new things based on past experience, much like memory. He then talks about
what he calls observation sentences, this is the statement of evidence itself. Next, Quine gets into
how his definition of observation sentences is different than that of others who have defined it.
This is really big to Quine and it sets up a lot of what he works with. Quine then discuss
observation categoricals, which he says are test in pairs of observation. Next in the chapter is
holism, which is the theory that parts of a whole are in interconnection, such that they can t be
understood without reference to the whole, which is then regarded as greater than the sum of its
parts. Quine then ends his firster chapter with the talk of empirical content and norms and aims.
Quine, in the section of norms and aims, discusses the relationship between naturalized
epistemologyand traditional epistemology.

The Key Drivers Of Growth Behind Our Prison Population
The primary purpose of prison is to protect the community and rehabilitate the offender (Smart
Justice, 2015). Research has indicated that prison fails to do this and instead can increase the rate
of reoffending (Smart Justice, 2015). Prison does not address the causes of the person s criminal
offending. Imprisonment is designed to be a sentence of last resort, yet we are building more
prisons at an ever increasing rate (Smart Justice, 2015). In Victoria, annually, the prisonsystem cost
more than $1 billion (Glass, 2014). It cost more than $98, 000 to house a prisoner each year
(SCRGSP, 2015).
It is important to discuss the key drivers of growth behind our prison population. While the crime
rate has not increased, our prison population has (Kilgore, 2015). Tougher on crime policies have
been a contributing factor to the increase in the prison population (Department of Justice, 2011).
Abolishment of alternative sentences, including intensive corrections orders (ICO), suspended
sentences and home detention orders (HDO), have been a contributing factor to the increased
prison population (Kilgore, 2016). Prior to the abolishment of suspended sentences from the
period 2009 to 2012, the Victorian prison population increased by 11% (Glass, 2014). The
following period 2012 2014, it increased to 25% (Glass, 2014).The parole reforms recommended by
Ian Callinan have seen 95% of applications being denied (Glass, 2014). Reforms to the bail
legislation have seen an increase of accused

dissected through a tale of everyday life in this small town. This is a story about the inhabitants of
Cannery Row, and how they all get along, even when you aren t invited to the party.
Steinbeck sets the scene in Cannery Row, a community by the water, based on the real town,
Ocean View Avenue. With Lee Chong s grocery, the Palace Flophouse and Grill, Dora s homely
brothel, and Doc s lab, Western Biological, this is a very diverse neighborhood. The entire town is
affected by the Great Depression. Almost everyone owes Lee Chong money, however, he often

and enjoys the company of others, but is also accustomed to spending nights alone in his lab. He
helps everyone with their medical needs and is overall a very wise and melancholy man.
All of these members create a community. This community thrives off of each of their lives.
Without Dora and her girls, the entire town would be wiped out, and Lee Chong could have
bankrupted every person who wasn t already bankrupt. Doc could have locked himself up instead
of opening his lab to those in need, while Mack and the Boys couldn t really do anything to change
the society because they are the society. If something happens they are either the cause or the first

  • 2. An Argument Against Affirmative Action Essay Paved with Good Intentions: An Argument Against Affirmative Action Out of the jaws of civil war, the new United States had emerged. Broken and burning and minus 620,000 men, a new challenge lay before the nation: social equality. How would we address the sickening grievances endured by these African American now citizens? That question has hallmarked fiery debates from dinner tables all the way to the Supreme Court for more than a century. During the Civil Rights Movement, millions of American citizens demonstrated across the country in pursuit of fairness, and famously in his I Have a Dream speech, Dr. Martin Luther King championed the idea of a country that saw no color, but based judgement on the content of character. Through decades of policy, our government implemented social reform within institutions of education and employment. Collectively known as Affirmative Action, this social reform established racial preferences in favor of minority groups at the expense of whites and Asians. This social reform was unquestionably established in good faith, but into what has this festered now? The pursuit of fairness is perhaps the most American in spirit, and a goal toward which we all strive together. Unfortunately, the policies collectively known as Affirmative Action, however well intended, have further widened the boundaries between us through some ideal of righteous discrimination. The time has come, it seems, that our government and our nation rethink the policies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1701, the importation of raw cotton for spinning weight 1 million, however, a drastic increase by 1781 was 5million. Likewise textile technology by 1784 it was over 11million pound, nonetheless a massive increase by 1799 to 43million. (Hammond and Hammond 1937, p 162). • 7. Persuasive Essay On Virtual Reality Virtual reality is such a cool concept in technology. It s something that a lot of people are at the very least intrigued by. Maybe not something that they think about or look up on a daily basis, but something that they may keep an eye on. I mean Google has sold over 5 million Google cardboards and has shipped over 10 million of them. For those that don t know what Google cardboard is, it s a virtual realityplatform that Google made ( a cardboard headset) that you put on your head that you use in conjunction with your smart phone that can give you a virtual reality like experience. What you do is download some compatible apps, put your smart into the Google cardboard. Put it on your head and have some fun. I m very interested in virtual reality and what the future holds for it. Especially being a person who loves to play video games. I haven t gotten a chance to get my hands on a Playstation VR yet, but at some point I would love to try it out. Playstation VR for those that don t know is Sony s virtual reality device that you use with a Playstion 4. Playstaion has over 100 compatible games with the Playstaion VR and that just amazes me because it just released back in October of 2016. Also there was an anime (a Japanese cartoon) that came out a few years back called sword art online that peaked my interest in virtual reality. Sword art online is set in the near future and focuses on various virtual reality MMORPG s (Massively Multiplayer Online Role playing games). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

SWOT Analysis Of The PESTLE Model The PESTLE model applies the political economic social technological legal and environmental climate to assess the effect on the goals and objectives of the practice. (See Figure 1) Kurt Lewins force field theory adds demographics and cultural effects to this mix. A SWOT analysis can be applied in conjunction with these to highlight the strengths weaknesses and the opportunities and threats that will impact the practice (See Appendix III) Figure 1 Workforce Management Tools (WFM) are utilised to allocate tasks to individual skills, with time lines and other parameters. This aims to maximise efficiency and quality of service offered. OFP ensure that the organisational (National Health Service England NHSE), the team (GP Practice) and the individual (staff) goals are clear, well managed and aligned. This should maximise efficiency and quality of service (Valls et al 2009). The cost of labour (workforce) is a significant cost. The impact if workforce relevant skills are lacking is an increase in cost and time taken to perform tasks and a decrease in productivity (Capece and Costa 2009) (Capece and Bazzica 2013). Reduce cost of labour without compromising quality (Van der Bergh et al 2013) pursue both simultaneously. There is distinction between front line and back office activity. • 10. The Earthquake The Earthquake It was a sunny day outside. The heat from the sun was hitting my face as I was painting the hot summer day onto my canvas. The colors made the image stand out and made it bright. The yellows added the joy to the picture while the greens freshened up the image. It was burning outside and my throat felt dry, like the Sahara desert. I reached for my cold cup filled with icy lemonade. I slowly took the last sip. I felt hydrated as the ice cubes were hitting my lips and little bits traveling down my throat. My palms were covered in water drops from the cup. I went back to painting after I dried my hands and gently wiped my lips with a soft napkin. After painting for awhile I decided to take a small break. I held my cup tightly and ran downstairs with little drops dripping from the cup. There was just a little bit of lemonade left so I decided to carefully pour the rest into my cup and head upstairs to my room. As you may know almost everyone has siblings, including me. While my parents were not home, I was painting my beautiful picture, my older sister decided to show up. Her name is Jasmine. She s fifteen, with long, brown locks, spring green eyes, and pale skin with freckles sprinkled on her nose and her rosy cheeks. She was beautiful but her soul wasn t. I could feel something was up as she bursted through my door. I can t believe you drank the rest of the lemonade you selfish pig. Ugh I hate you so much. I hope you die. she shouted as she ... • 11. Floating Disk Assay Lab Investigating the temperature effect on rate of oxygen production for the enzyme catalase in the Hydrogen Peroxide Reaction using Floating Disk assay Experiment Figures: Table 1: This is the raw data collected for the measurement of time in seconds on the floating of the disk assay in nine trials observing four different temperatures. Then, calculated the average, standard deviation and 95% confidence interval. Figure 1: This bar graph represents the rate of reaction based on the floating disks in seconds. It displays the different comparisons between temperatures. It shows 95% confidence interval for error bars. Discussion: When solutions are increased in temperature, there is more kinetic energy, and the molecules speed up as they transition from liquids to gas. This increased movement of molecules, increases the collision of molecules which, increases the rate of reactions (1). It was hypothesized that as the temperature of the hydrogen peroxide increased that rate of reaction with the potato enzyme would increase until the temperature caused the enzyme to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some possible errors would include inconsistent temperatures that varied by about five degrees, because of opening the hot bath a lot of heat was lost, as well as, waiting till the end of lab to run the cold trials so the ice was melted caused a increase of temperature. Human error was another aspect that affected the data. Since the disk assay was based on observation of when the disk floated that data probably was not accurate to the exact second to when the disk reached the top of the solution. Another possible error is that the hydrogen peroxide was left out during the experiment for example the cold solution was left out the majority of the period. Since hydrogen peroxide decomposes more in light, this could have played a small role of increasing the reaction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These events are not just placed haphazardly; often times, these predicaments are intricately set to build the meaning of the work. Amir finally finds the place where Sohrab is and is coincidentally confronted by Assef. The fight scene here is brutal, and full of bloodshed. However, rather than feeling pain, Amir feels at peace , healed , and satisfied. Overall, the scene is relieving and peaceful, at least for Amir. At the time, Amir s pain makes him feel happy by suffering. Though Assef brings a mood of obscurity, Amir s recent catharsis brings about one of relief. Throughout the whole fight, Amir knows that he really isn t going to win; but, winning was not the goal. When Amir decides not to rin from Assef, he welcomed the pain rather than running away from it as he did early on in the novel. Amir feels as though this is the punishment that he deserved because of his unfaithfulness to Hassan. This is the motive behind Amir s laughter during the fight. Upon going to the hospital after the fight, the doctor tells Amir that he has a scar splitting his upper lip, which ends up being similar to Hassan s. One of the biggest reasons privacy has become such an issue is the enactment of the Patriot Act , signed into law in reaction to the attacks on 9/11/2001. This act broadened the ability for the US government to collect surveillance on people in order to protect against terrorism inside the US. Critiques say it violates our civil liberties and undermines our democracy. One example of this is the collection and storage of phone data by the government under the Patriot Act. Give Me Death Rhetorical Analysis Essay Virginian politician Patrick Henry, like many of the founding fathers, was concerned by England s actions preceding the Revolutionary War and decided to voice this concern in arguably one of the most critical speeches in political history, Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death . Henry used his political passion and voice to convince the powerful politicians at the Second Virginia Convention that England was violating its citizen s rights, and if specific measures were not taken, like forming a militia, the colonies would face imminent danger. Henry s speech was so successful because he crafted it specifically with his audience in mind. To appeal to them emotionally, he focuses on their pride, something people tend to care highly about. He likens England s grip on the colonists to slavery, There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! , to make his audience think about how powerless they are to England in that moment. He implies that England is taking away what they believe should be their free will to govern on their own behalf (Henry 2). No one wishes to relinquish control of his own life and turn it over to someone else and therefore this becomes a matter of pride. He urges the men not to allow their voices to be silences by any form of government. By exclaiming [the chains] clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston he notes that England is making a public mockery of the colonists, and the whole country will be aware of their failure if they refuse to stand up for themselves. He again speaks to the men s pride when he notes They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary (Henry 2). Feasibility And Merit Criteria For Our Recycling Program The facility would contain an office area for the Sustainability Supervisor, a paid employee of Mercer University who would be responsible for the recycling and sustainability efforts at Mercer University. They would oversee interns responsible for maintaining and updating the website as well as student workers who would sort recyclable materials. It would be outfitted with three computers, office furniture, and a solar compactor. Collected recyclables would be taken to that facility to be sorted, compacted and housed. With the creation of a sustainabilityoffice, we would be able to increase the amount of recyclable waste that could be stored on campus and simply take the material to Atlanta, directly, after it was capable of filling the truck. This would decrease the amount of trips taken downtown to the Macon recyclingcenter and increase Mercer s independence in the sustainability movement. Feasibility and Merit Criteria The feasibility criteria considered in deciding the requirements of our recycling program, were the same conditions given to us in the RFP. At the very minimum each proposed program had to include recycling in Academic/Office buildings, Residential areas, the University Center, the Connell Student Center, and the Sporting arenas. • 34. The Bias Of Law Enforcement Officers The implicit bias of law enforcement officers to perceive White Americans as innocent, and non White Americans as criminals, has lead law enforcement officers to profile non White Americans. This is an example of white privilege because white offenders are virtually immune to being suspected of drug use. And because law enforcement officers do not suspect white peopleof drug use in proportion to the number of them that actually use drugs, they do not arrest white drug users accordingly. Moreover, court officials do not charge white offenders proportionately. Thus, disproportion in incarceration rates is a form of racial inequity. If white people used their privilege to advocate for non white people we could eliminate this racial inequity. But first, we must take steps to educate white children on white privilege. Only then can white children use their privilege to advocate for non white people. How then, specifically, does educating white children on white privilege work? Educating white children on white privilege is not as straightforward as it may seem. One study in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology suggests that when presented with evidence of white privilege, white people actually respond with denial on the basis of personal hardships (Phillips, Lowry 12 18). The study also stated that understanding privilege, requires a comparison to someone of another group membership with the same life circumstances (Phillips, Lowry 12 18). Over the past 30 years nursing has evolved from a task oriented to a logical and systematic approach to care, using theories and models to guide practice. According to Jasper (2007, p117) theories of decision making in medicine tend to favour logical, precise analytical models which are held to be testable, unambiguous and repeatable, therefore satisfying scientific principles. These represent important ideas of certainty and rationality that are intended to provide a sense of security and reliability. When used correctly a nursing model should give direction to nurses working in a particular area, as it should help them understand more fully the logic behind their actions. It should also act as a guide in decision making and so reduce conflict within the team of nurses as a whole. The answer may seem straightforward: biology, physics, chemistry, etc. However, asking the same question to a philosopher, the answer is completely different. In other words, Philosophers are not asking for a mere list of sciences but, are seeking to answer one specific question: What is it that makes something a science. In further detail, the Philosophy of science is a branch of philosophy concerned with the foundations, methods, and implications of science. Therefore, the three main questions are: what qualify as science, how reliable are scientific theories, and what is the ultimate purpose of science. This discipline overlaps with metaphysics, ontology, and epistemology, for example, when it explores the relationship between science and truth. In addition to these general questions about science as a whole, philosophers of science consider problems that apply to particular sciences (such as biology or physics). In this essay, I will be introducing and discussing Karl popper s philosophy of science and its criticisms. He then talks about what he calls observation sentences, this is the statement of evidence itself. Next, Quine gets into how his definition of observation sentences is different than that of others who have defined it. This is really big to Quine and it sets up a lot of what he works with. Quine then discuss observation categoricals, which he says are test in pairs of observation. Next in the chapter is holism, which is the theory that parts of a whole are in interconnection, such that they can t be understood without reference to the whole, which is then regarded as greater than the sum of its parts. Quine then ends his firster chapter with the talk of empirical content and norms and aims. Quine, in the section of norms and aims, discusses the relationship between naturalized epistemologyand traditional epistemology. Quine s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. The Key Drivers Of Growth Behind Our Prison Population The primary purpose of prison is to protect the community and rehabilitate the offender (Smart Justice, 2015). Research has indicated that prison fails to do this and instead can increase the rate of reoffending (Smart Justice, 2015). Prison does not address the causes of the person s criminal offending. Imprisonment is designed to be a sentence of last resort, yet we are building more prisons at an ever increasing rate (Smart Justice, 2015). In Victoria, annually, the prisonsystem cost more than $1 billion (Glass, 2014). It cost more than $98, 000 to house a prisoner each year (SCRGSP, 2015). It is important to discuss the key drivers of growth behind our prison population. While the crime rate has not increased, our prison population has (Kilgore, 2015). Tougher on crime policies have been a contributing factor to the increase in the prison population (Department of Justice, 2011). Abolishment of alternative sentences, including intensive corrections orders (ICO), suspended sentences and home detention orders (HDO), have been a contributing factor to the increased prison population (Kilgore, 2016). Prior to the abolishment of suspended sentences from the period 2009 to 2012, the Victorian prison population increased by 11% (Glass, 2014). The following period 2012 2014, it increased to 25% (Glass, 2014).The parole reforms recommended by Ian Callinan have seen 95% of applications being denied (Glass, 2014). Reforms to the bail legislation have seen an increase of accused ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a story about the inhabitants of Cannery Row, and how they all get along, even when you aren t invited to the party. Steinbeck sets the scene in Cannery Row, a community by the water, based on the real town, Ocean View Avenue. With Lee Chong s grocery, the Palace Flophouse and Grill, Dora s homely brothel, and Doc s lab, Western Biological, this is a very diverse neighborhood. The entire town is affected by the Great Depression. Almost everyone owes Lee Chong money, however, he often stops counting. Every person in this town is intertwined. They are, at most, a large group of misfits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dora, the brothel owner, cares for everyone in the town. When the flu hit, her girls were busy bringing soup to all the sick. Dora is like the mother of Cannery Row. Mack and the boys are the heart of the town. When all is normal with Mack and the boys, the town is good too. When the gang is sad, the whole town has bad luck, but after the successful party, Mack and the boys become the light of Cannery Row. Lee Chong is a very generous man who has power over most in the form of debt, but never uses his power to harm anyone. Doc is a misfit scientist. He is kind and enjoys the company of others, but is also accustomed to spending nights alone in his lab. He helps everyone with their medical needs and is overall a very wise and melancholy man. All of these members create a community. This community thrives off of each of their lives. Without Dora and her girls, the entire town would be wiped out, and Lee Chong could have bankrupted every person who wasn t already bankrupt. Doc could have locked himself up instead of opening his lab to those in need, while Mack and the Boys couldn t really do anything to change the society because they are the society. If something happens they are either the cause or the first ones influenced. All of these members of the community are one organism, living, growing, surviving, despite all odds against ...
