Ethics And Sustainability Of The Skidmore College Honor Code
HONOR CODE: I have not witnessed any wrong doing nor have I personally violated any condition
of the Skidmore College Honor Code while taking this examination.
I attended a meeting last week with other faculty members. One of them let fly her/his opinion that
sustainability does not exist or is, at best, a bankrupt notion that is basically a form of greenwashing
and that sustainable development was a joke. Hmmm . . . . Please comment on that assertion. In the
process, discuss the big idea of sustainable development, and more generally the concept of
sustainability as applied to individual businesses. For that matter, what is a sustainable enterprise? Can
being sustainable be good for business? Sustainability has achieved a more ecological tone in the past
few decades in terms of a business model, but it originally derives from the concept that a business is
successful due to the interconnected areas of economics, culture and ecology. Sustainability is now
becoming a somewhat fad and thus it is understandable that it could be misconstrued by some as a
form of greenwashing . Greenwashing is the idea that a company markets their green or
environmentally friendly changes in policy and values, despite no actual concrete changes in these
areas, for example some argue that Fiji Water greenwasher in terms of their marketing as an
environmentally friendly water company despite their little effort to actually go carbon neutral. Many
companies are seeing the

Analysis Of Albert Einstein
Without physics, there would be no internet, nuclear weapons, airplanes, or advance technology in
general. Isaac Newton is one the biggest contributors to the advancement of physics and the
understanding of the world. Another contributor to this is Albert Einstein, the greatest physicist of the
modern era. In Philip Shane s highly informative film, Einstein: The Real Story of the Man Behind the
Theory, Einstein s story on his theory of general relativity is brought to the surface through the use of
scientific expert analysis, demonstrations of Einstein s ideas, reenactments, and the creation of the
documentary s atmosphere. In the documentary, they uses various commentaries from scientists,
professors, authors, and narrator to give more insight on Einstein. These commentaries give
background information on Einstein and simpler explanations to give the viewer a better
understanding of his ideas. For example, Michio Kaku, a theoretical physicist explains how Einstein
first came up with the idea for his theory of general relativity. Kaku states, In the Spring of 1905,
Einstein was riding on a bus, and he looked back at the famous clock tower that dominates Bern,
Switzerland, and then he imagined what happens if that bus were racing near the speed of light? The
narrator then follows up with a simplified explanation. What Einstein saw was that as he approaches
the speed of light, time slows down. Because he is moving at the same speed as light, the light

exclude food, energy and those products with a unstable price. Core inflation as a measure of inflation
for policy purposes, it measures inflation more precisely. Core inflation represents the long run trend

How The Beatles Changed The World Analysis
On February 9th 1964, Beatle mania began. Over seventy million Americans tuned in to the Ed
Sullivan Show to see the English musical group, The Beatles. The host of the show Ed Sullivan began
to introduce the musical group but as soon as these moppy haired Englishmen joined the staged,
Sullivan s last words were drowned out by the screams of the teenagers in the audience. The Beatles
changed popular music of the time. They were one of the first rock an roll groups instead of a solo act
and they led the British invasion. As stated in, How the Beatles Changed the World, Jonathon Gould
wrote, The Beatles changed the way people listened to popular music and experienced it s role in theri

Even though the population surveyed is less than one hundred I believe the data presented gives great
insight on the questioned asked. In statistical literacy, probability as well as mean, median, mode and
more are discussed. With probability we learn how to make predictions that are pretty spot on.
Probability is defined as the likelihood that a particular outcome or event will occur, as shown in A
Particular Introduction to Statistics. So now lets take a look at the data using some statistical analysis
concepts. First, lets determine the probability of receiving a correct answer or receiving a wrong
answer. The possible outcomes is either a correct answer or a wrong answer. Therefore, the probability
equals 1 (CA) over the total of possible outcomes which is 2 (CA and WA) and 1 (WA) over 2 ( CA
and WA). Both answers give us 1/2 and since they are the only possibilities they equal 1. In
identifying the middle or average of the set of data is known as central tendency. These measures
include, mean, median, and mode. Central Tendencies can be used in this research to see what the
average number of correct responses between the groups. First we put the data set in order form
smallest to greatest. Than we divided by the total number of data sets. Which gives a mean value of 7.
This shows that the average number of correct responses among age groups is

The Truth In Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
In today s world, the news is constantly shrouded in controversy. Stories of violence and crime are
everywhere. Hidden amongst the plethora of articles, there s bound to be a report without a shred of
truth in it. As smart as people like to think they are, mistakes in judgement do occur from time to time.
A mere glimpse of a shocking headline is enough to throw someone off. Given enough intimidating
and persuasive words, it can be quite easy to mislead someone. When a person is overcome with
emotion, it can be even more difficult to distinguish what is real or not. Edgar Allan Poe s most
prominent poem, The Raven, gives an example. In The Raven, the Raven is not actually real, but
rather, it is a manifestation of the speaker s built up vexation; this is relevant to 2017, since people are
easily deceived when they are frustrated.
The first implication that the Raven is not real is in the beginning of the poem when the bird appears
spontaneously. At first, the speaker only hears a tapping at his door. Logically, he assumes that the
noise is that of a random visitor. Upon opening the door, however, he sees [darkness] there and
nothing more (Poe 24). The speaker returns to his chamber, but the sound continues, this time coming
from his window. Instead of finding nothing once more, he is surprised to find a raven fly in and
[perch] upon a bust of Pallas just above [his] chamber door (Poe 41). It is hard to explain how the
Raven changes its position so quickly. Because

Justifying Reproductive Cloning For Logistical Motives Essay
Justifying Reproductive Cloning for Logistical Motives
In this age of technology and innovation, what was once science fiction is now becoming a reality.
Human reproductive cloning is on the forefront for providing prospective parents with a new mode of
reproduction. However, with the concept of reproductive cloning comes an unprecedented set of
ethical issues. Issues especially focused on how cloning may affect the child s right to an open future
are highlighted by philosophers such as Dena Davis. Davis takes a neutral stance on reproductive
cloning and argues that it is morally impermissible when used for duplicative motives, but permissible
when used for logistical motives. Duplicative motives are when the genetic replication itself... is the
attraction (Davis 160) and the parents wish for their child to be a mere copy of their donor. Logistical
motivations are when the parents end goal is simply to have a child that is genetically related (Davis
159). Davis leaves the evaluation of such parental motives in the hands of healthcare professionals.
Philosophers McGee and Wilmut add to Davis position, but call for a more holistic evaluation of
parental motives and competency by following an adoption model. In this paper, I will support Davis
argument on the moral permissibility of reproductive cloning under logistical motivations by
addressing the main concerns that surround reproductive cloning. First, I shall reconstruct Davis
argument in favor of reproductive cloning

Media Reaction to Immigration
Media Reaction to Immigration Name Course Date Submitted Media Reaction to Immigration: The
issue of illegal immigration is one of the hotly debated topics in almost every facet of society,
especially among political leaders. This topic has also received huge media attention and reaction in
the recent past including an article written by William Finnegan and published by The New Yorker.
The article focuses on addressing the issue of borderlines and is based on the move by 17 Congress
members, who wrote a letter on 28th April 2010 demanding an instant action from President Obama to
enhance border security. While the increase in illegal immigration has declined in the recent past,
there is still a great need to enhance border security, particularly in the as violence in the
neighborhood of U.S. Mexico has continued to escalate at an alarming rate. Therefore, evaluating the
need to improve border security to lessening illegal immigration is vital for enhancing the country s
security and understanding its impacts on America s economy and labor force. Historical Framework
of Illegal Immigration: Illegal immigration has continued to be a major problem in America,
particularly in the latter periods of the 20th Century. Notably, the origin of this huge problem can be
traced back to the late 19th Century that prompted the enactment of a federal legislation that forbade
the entry of prostitutes and convicts in 1875. Prior to the enactment of this law and subsequent

Essay about A National Tradegy
Tragedy
In September 11th A National Tragedy, James Peck writes about how the tragic event, September 11th
has affected our world today. Peck states that tragedy is a word that has commonly been overused by
Americans throughout news articles and magazines when a significant event happens. When referring
to September 11th, the crashing of the twin towers, this is a tragic event.
Peck states, I do know life is life and theatre is theatre (735), but we as Americans immediately turn
life events into narrations where we ourselves play the roles of the characters and the plot is the
problem that is affecting us in our life. Turning significant events into narrations allows Americans to

The attacks dramatize the destruction and construct America as the wealthy super power it is, clearly
these attacks were criminal acts and the attackers must be brought to justice through the Supreme
Court and internationally.
The world knows America better than us Americans know of it. Through emotion and painful events
such as this one America has came to better understand itself and the strengths that it has. America has
one of the strongest military personal in the world, allowing us to be able to react to attacks such as
this one. Peck states Since September 11th, I believe we ve been living out a national melodrama
(737). A western movie was created by President Bush Wanted: Dead or Alive casting Osama bin
Laden causing the defining moment of Americas melodrama allowing people to be aware of the
attacker by posting posters throughout the United States. America has sent military troops over to Iraq
in search of the attackers killing innocent citizen in order to voice our opinions on this matter. The best
assurance that the US will not again be the object of comparably horrific terrorist attack is an equitable

Citizen Kane By Orson Welles
The willing to get money and wealth is able to do awful things with people. Trying to
multiply their prosperity and authority they can lose their human nature and soul, turn human
relation into the market. In the movie Citizen Kane directed by Orson Welles in 1941, on the
example of the main character, Charles Foster Kane, it is shown how the person who could get
everything he wanted, but was unable to save it ( Citizen Kane ). For example, he had two
marriages, but both were unhappy because of Kane s treatment to his women. He also was very
close to the successful political career, but lost the chance to change something being a
politician because of his rigidity and inability to listen to people and to take into account their
opinions. Thus, I can state with confidence that this person made an ambiguous impression on
me in the negative sense of this word.
From the very beginning I would like to mention that I do not like the main character of
the movie due to his way of life and attitude toward other people. Initially, Kane dedicates his
life to the idea of service to society, but inevitably evolves into a person, who uses his
enormous money and power to meet the desires and permanent whims of own ego. The
sequence in the entire film shows that during the movie Kane was desperately trying to deserve

We use Barry Center crossing reduction heuristics. This is a two layer crossing reduction process. It is
applied from top to bottom layer then bottom to top, this completes one iteration.
Assign artificial positions to first layer and calculate barry center weights of nodes at second layer.
Reorder the nodes at second layer in ascending order of their barycenter weights. The above equation
is for top down sweeps of the layered graph. Similarly use Successors of v in bottom up sweeps in the
above equation. This process might not remove all edge crossings but gives a good starting point for
further Subgraph Crossing Reduction process.

A topological traversal of subgraph ordering graph gives ordering αo denoting which subgraph is left
of other subgraph.
5. POSITIONING
The edge crossings are reduced and nodes are placed according to their subgraphs at each layer. Now
we need to calculate absolute positions for graph nodes such that there will be enough space to draw
subgraph boundaries. To draw subgraph vertical boundaries straight we add trail of dummy vertical
nodes one to the left and one to the right side of each layer in every subgraph.
The goal is to position the long edges as straight as possible and vertical borders of subgraph strictly
vertical without reordering the nodes at any layer. We present a heuristic approach based on Brandes[]
approach. The nodes have different height and width. There should be no overlap between any two
nodes and node and subgraph boundary. The process consists of three steps. The first and second steps
are carried out four times. The first algorithm referred as vertical alignment, to align nodes with its
either median upper or median lower neighbor node. This will give maximum possible straight long
edges positions in upward and downward direction. The alignment conflicts are resolved with leftmost
and rightmost direction. Combination of the directions creates four alignments namely Upward Left,
Upward Right, Downward Left and Downward Right. In second step each alignment is given absolute
positions according to four alignments. In last step these alignments

What Is The Difference Between The Princess Bride Book And...
In the novel The Princess Bride we read of conflict and exploration, and like me if you have seen the
film version, you hold a optimist interpretation of the story. That was my opinion beforehand, after
comprehending the book I learned that the movie seemed lacking. Luckily, my view of this voyage
has transformed from a fanciful one to a more practical notion. William Goldman was aiming to
express to us, in the novel version is that time is made up of realism, scattered with romanticism. What
I m indicating by this is that even practical people must try to have faith in Twoo wuv. We learn that
even thought we have our impractical conceptions, life occurs and life is what is genuine. What The
Princess Bride delivers is the truths of life and how life is not evenhanded.
The primary thing you spot when you begin The Princess Bride is that it does not begin totally like the
movie. It opens by illustrating the imaginary life of William Goldman, where we learned that his
father always read him a story called The princess Bride. As a child he retained caringly how his dad
had narrated the story of affection and courage. Sadly to discover, that his dad had abridged it while
telling the story. This flipped his universe upside down, he says: Who knows when this world is going
to change? Who knows before it actually happens, that every prior experience, all the years, were a
preparation for . . . nothing. The concept here is not that planning is not valuable, but that all of

The Legal Regulation Of Printing Press Disrupted The...
Those of us who care about continuing the copyright tradition that regards public access to
information as the principal goal of the law are faced with the hard task of searching for and exploring
middle ground scenarios wherein author/publisher interests in receiving compensation can be balanced
with user/library interests in having access to information on fair and reasonable terms. Finding and
implementing such a balance is all the more challenging in view of the messianic fervor that the Green
Paper has engendered in the publishing industry. As we search for middle grounds, it may help to
realize new technologies have been disrupting existing equilibria for centuries, yet balanced solutions
have been found before. The printing press disrupted the equilibrium of its day. When the first legal
regulation of printing proved imbalanced, legislative adjustments achieved a public policy balance that
has lasted for a considerable period of time. While the history of copyright reveals many examples of
disruptions caused by new technology and the construction of new balanced equilibria, one relatively
recent instructive example is that of the cable television industry. When cable technology made it
possible to transmit television programming to cable subscribers, owners of programming copyrights
sought to stop this retransmission, saying it would be their ruination. Courts, however, found no
copyright infringement, saying that passive retransmissions of signals were not public

Stage 1. Introduction to Computer Science
In this stage, I have watched an introductory video about computer science and what a computer
scientist does in general. According to this video, computer science is a certain way to impact the
world. This course will provide more information about computer science and why it is important to
know.
Stage 2. The Maze
Here, I learned the basics about coding through different games. In the first one, I helped an angry bird
move through a maze in order to get to the evil pig. In order to write a program, I needed to drag and
drop blocks correctly. Also, by using the repeat block in the game I learned how loops are valuable
and how computer repeat commands can be useful so people do not waste their time. Next, I had to
use repeat until block to set determined goals such as until the angry bird gets the pig. Another game
was about a zombie that I needed to feed, where I also used repeat until command to achieve the goal.
Besides, I learnt about fundamental concept in programming if statement. By using if commands the
computer program makes a decision. Then, I learn about if/else block command, which made a
decision what zombie should do choosing between the two actions. There were some struggles that I
have faced. Sometimes I didn t quite

Cerebral Palsy Research Paper
There are four types of Cerebral Palsy: Spastic, Dyskinesia, Ataxic, and Mixed. Spastic is the most
common form (NINDS.gov, 2017). Spastic is classified as stiffness in the muscles and awkward
movements. Spastic cerebral palsy is further classified by the main affected body areas. Spastic
Hemiplegia/Hemiparesis affects the arms, hands, and sometimes the legs of one side of the body. This
can lead to the affected side being shorter and thinner. Persons afflicted tend to walk with a gait if they
walk at all and develop scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine. Spastic Diplegia/Diparesis
affects the legs and is less severe in the arms and face. Those with this form of CP have tightness in
their leg muscles and require walkers and leg braces.

The Role Of Self Identity For Adolescents
The life transitions are the major changes that occur throughout individual s lifespan. Adolescence is
often classified as one of the most challenging and significant stage during life transition. In this
phrase, the individuals not only developing physical and sexual maturation but also experiencing the
development of identity and transitions into social and economic independence (WHO, 2014). This
essay will discuss the different concept of self identity for adolescents, the important predictable and
unpredictable elements during the transition, as well as the nurses role in relation to adolescence care.
According to Erikson s theory, as the individual transits into adolescence, he or she begins to express
the high interest in understanding and trying to make sense of the self and its qualities. This process
includes self awareness, self conscious and self examination ( Brinthaupt Lipka, 2012). Porfeli, Lee
Vondracek (2013) believed that in the early to middle adolescence, the individuals are struggling to
identify the balance between developing a unique individual identity while still being accept by the
general society. Therefore, it explains the reason why individual may develop high consciousness
towards to criticism in social environment. Simultaneously, Hoffnung, M., Hoffnung, R. J., Pause,

External Validity And Its Impact On The World
Within the past few weeks of my social statistics class I have had the amazing opportunity of learning
about various validities and data s. The three validities in which I learned about were, internal,
external and construct. I will explain these validities as well as experimental data and their usefulness
in the world. Lastly, I will explain how one of these data could be useful to me in resolving an issue
that I may meet in life. External Validity includes generalization claims, or the study s capacity to sum
up the outcomes crosswise over various circumstances, gatherings of individuals, or experimental
methods. External validity is the degree to which your research results apply to more than simply the
general population in your analysis. The primary criteria of external validity is the procedure of
generalization, and whether results come about acquired from a little example bunch, regularly in the
research center environment, can be stretched out to make expectations about the population as a
whole. It is related to the concept of generalization, in which there are three types. The three types of
generalization in which external validity is associated with are population generalization,
environmental generalization, and temporal generalization. Generalization is an essential concept
towards external validity. Population generalization is a kind of external validity in which portrays

Andrew Jackson s Colorful Military Career
The seventh president of the United States had a colorful military career before he became
Commander in Chief. Andrew Jackson, born 1767 in South Carolina, was a prisoner of war during
War of Independence; his treatment resulting in a lifelong dislike of Great Britain, ( Andrew Jackson
n.d.). After the British captured the belligerent Jackson, he was ordered to clean a British officer s
boots. When he refused, the officer drew his sword and slashed Jackson s hand to the bone, (Patrick,
n.d.). This memorable treatment by the British inspired Jackson to take up arms against the British in
the War of 1812. It also helped to foment Jackson s political ideologies that were staunchly anti
federalist. In addition to his encounters with the British during the Revolutionary War, Jackson was
notorious for having indulged in many a duel, including one in which he killed Charles Dickenson
(Patrick, n.d.).
Jackson s early military career consists mainly of his involvement in the War of 1812, followed by the
Creek War in 1813 1814, and then culminating in the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. This string of
military victories for Jackson was later supplemented by brutal victories in the First Seminole War in
1818. Having had a meager role to play in the War of 1812, Jackson hungered for glory and led the
West Tennessee Militia in the Creek War of 1813 1814. This led to promotions for Jackson. Jackson s
military career reached its pinnacle, though, during the Battle of New Orleans.

Love In The Story Of A Short Story
Frederic Henry arrives at an American hospital in Milan where he meets Ms. Gage, a nurse who he
later befriends. At the hospital, the superintendent, Miss Van Campen, immediately dislikes Frederic,
and prohibits him from drinking alcohol with his meals, which he disregards. The next day, Catherine
Barkley comes to visit Frederic at the hospital and they rekindle their romance. Later, a doctor comes
and checks Frederic s leg. He advises Frederic to wait until his leg has healed six months before they
operate, but Frederic is impatient, and asks the opinion of another doctor, Dr.Valentini. Dr. Valentini
says that Frederic can be operated on the next day. The night of the operation, Catherine visits
Frederic in his hospital room. Catherine is overly sweet and vows to do whatever Frederic wants.
Frederic s surgery goes well. In the summertime, while Frederic s leg is healing, Catherine and
Frederic enjoy a number of romantic dates involving horse drawn carriages, fine wines and long
walks. In the midst of one of their dates, Frederic brings up marriage. Catherine admits that she feels
as if she is already married, and wishes to stay unmarried in order to stay close to the front where
Frederic is stationed. One day in the summertime, Frederic and Catherine and a few of their friends
decide to go to the races. There, they bet on horses and find out that the racing in Milan was very
crooked. In September, Frederic sees that fighting at the front has gotten bad, but to distract himself
from the war news he reads the news on baseball. He later sees Catherine who tells him she is three
months along with a child. Frederic is ecstatic about the child. A day later, Frederic is sick with
jaundice. That same day, Miss Van Campen finds several bottles of brandy in Frederic s closet. She
scolds him, thinking that he self inflicted the disease to escape the front. Frederic tells her he didn t,
but she still sends him to the front immediately. Frederic prepares to leave Milan. He buys a pistol,
says goodbye to the nurses, and spends his last few hours in a hotel with Catherine. Section II: Quotes

Commercials and Their Propaganda Techniques
Why do commercials use propaganda techniques? Is it to influence our emotions or is it because they
lack actual factual support for their claims? The answer is both. Propaganda techniques are used by
advertisers, salespeople, and politicians because they lack adequate factual support for their points, so
they appeal to our emotions by using propaganda techniques. In the particular commercial for the
Samsung Galaxy smart phones, Name Calling, Plain Folks, and Bandwagon propaganda techniques
are used. It is no secret that smart phone creators have to appeal to average consumers and get them to
jump on board to buy their product. So in a not so surprising way to gather new customers, Samsung
releases a commercial the same day another major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These new and innovative features discussed were small digs at Apple. There s a growing majority of
consumers who feel as though Apple has hit a plateau in creating innovative smart phone features, so
these small digs can be used as name calling or the use of emotionally loaded language or negative
comment to turn people against a rival product. The primary one is the advertisement is name calling
because although plain folks and bandwagon techniques were used, the main purpose of the
commercial was to criticize a major competitor and their customers in a mocking way and also to

An Analysis of Marks and Spencer
An Analysis of Marks and Spencer
INTRODUCTION TO THE FIRM AND ITS INDUSTRY
Marks and Spencer is one of the largest retailers in the United Kingdom, and is also known as a major
retailer selling diverse product ranges under their own exclusive brand in more than thirty countries.
Customer confidence in the Marks and Spencer brand remains second to none. According to recent
research undertaken by the Company, it shows that, in clothing, Mark and Spencer has a clear lead
over all its major competitors in the key areas of fit, quality, trust, breadth of range and customer
service.
In November of 2000, Marks and Spencer will launch a trial of three new lingerie only outlets in
Paris, Hamburg and Dusseldorf. According to industry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most unusual part of this downswing of Marks Spencer is that the company has added 50,000 new
investors to its share register over the past year. Normally a company as crisis torn as this one cannot
attract such a voluminous new following of investors, and rarely can the new fan club have been so
disappointed by what it found. The shares have been in more or less continual decline throughout this
period. Many analysts are wondering why? (Anonymous 21).
One explanation is that Marks Spencer has appeared on numerous share tip lists as an obvious
recovery stock. Many important newspapers included the company in its New Year share tips, and the
brokers have been unrelenting in rating the stock a buy. But investors don t have to read the
newspapers to think in the same way as them. Marks Spencer is still a very good brand which in the
past has achieved outstanding retail success. The logic behind buying the shares, then, is the belief that
they must at some time bounce back (Anonymous 21).
This is a bad enough strategy to apply to stock market investment generally, but it is a particularly bad
when applied to a specific stock such as in this case. The world is a fast changing place and just
because a company was once at the top of its competition doesn t mean it will ever be that way again.
Marks Spencer shares have repeatedly over the last year attempted to stage a recovery,

Depersonalization Disorder
After gathering information about Caleb from his homeroom teacher and another session with his
mother, I considered two more disorders. Caleb s mother mentioned that Caleb s father physically and
verbally abused her and Caleb witnessed the abuse several times. This immediately made me think of
Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders. I also considered Dissociative Disorders, although
Dissociative Disorders are not labeled as a Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders in the DSM 5, they
are triggered by traumatic events. The primary disorder I thought of after my second session with
Caleb s mother was Depersonalization/ Derealization Disorder; Caleb may have had depersonalization

I am not sure whether to report schizophreniform Disorder or Schizophrenia because it is not clear
how long Caleb has displayed negative symptoms and symptoms of catatonia. It is also unclear
whether his behavior is due to the physiological effects of a substance, which is important to consider
since he was caught drinking alcohol. However, Schizophreniform Disorder and Schizophrenia is still
worth considering due to the possibility that Caleb may have had a hallucination and was rather
obsessed with his fantasies during his daycare years, as mentioned in the first session. Caleb also may
have another symptom of catatonia, making a total of three symptoms of catatonia, which is the
minimum requirement. Caleb exhibited negativism by not reporting or reacting to bullying behavior
targeted at him; Caleb simply ignores his peers when they tease him, rather than respond or report
them. Moreover, there is still reason to consider Autism Spectrum Disorder, based on his mother s and
homeroom teacher s report. During the second session, Caleb s mother admitted that her sister has
severe autism, indicating that there may be a genetic link to Caleb s eccentric behavior. Furthermore,
his teacher reported that Caleb is academically average, and has exceptional written vocabulary skills,
which eliminates the possibility of Caleb s behavior

The Novel and Film of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow Essay
The Novel and Film of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, originally a book written by Washington Irving, is exactly what the
title implies, a legend. This legend includes a town that is haunted by a headless horseman and a
single man s journey. Many years later, this legend was produced as a movie directed by Tim Burton.
Burton stole the title of this legend and added thrill to this now classic storyline.
The book and the movie ultimately have to be somewhat similar, because they share a common title,
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Therefore similarities do not end there, at the title, because Burton was
obviously inspired by Irving. Burton continued the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie would have been much less interesting if Burton wouldn?t have added Katrina?s
stepmother to the storyline, for she was the character that added death and affairs to this otherwise
boring plot. Burton made the stepmother responsible for deaths in sleepy hollow due to her owning the
headless man?s skull. If causing multiple deaths wasn?t enough, Katrina?s step mother was caught in
the night having an affair. It also helped Burton to cast Johnny Depp as Ichabod, the other major
difference that made the story interesting for myself and many other girls in the world. In the book,
Ichabod was an unattractive man that reminded one of a ?scarecrow?. In the movie, Depp was
anything but unattractive and probably wouldn?t be able to scare even crows off with his looks. It is
also implied that he was a teacher, but Burton made Depp play Ichabod as a policeman in the movie.
Overall, the changes managed to turn a similar myth into a real story.
Burton made the story most interesting by changing the characters and parts of the plot. The
differences put in the actual story were put there to hold the attention of the person watching the
movie, as it did myself. Some differences between the movie and the book were inevitable, and
sincerely did not have anything to do with the plot. The movie adds excitement to the

Remember The Titans Equality
Remembering The Struggle The movie Remember the Titans directed by Boaz Yakin is great
depiction of civil rights and the struggle for political equality that African Americans have dealt with
over the past centuries. Although this movie is a representation of the later years of the twentieth
century, the racism and challenges African Americans face are still present in todays society. The
movie takes place just about 7 years after the Civil Right Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of
1965 was passed, so American were still fairly new to the whole idea of equality. The movie is based
in 1971 in Alexandria, Virginia at T.C Williams High School, which was a school for whites, but since

Topeka (1954) when the court declared that the separate but equal was unacceptable in public schools

The Dig of the Graha shows the direction indicated by the planet and since Jupiter is all about
perspective and wisdom, it has Digbala in the Lagna which indicates the head and the personality.
The other Graha related to rationality and intelligence, Budha/ Mercury also attains 100% Digbala/
directional strength in the Lagna for this very reason.
Exalted Gurū/ Guru in the Lagna should be considered with reference to the horoscope of Bhagwāna
Śrī Rāma/ Bhagwan Shri Rama who had Gurū/ Guru exalted in the natal Lagna in the Rāśi/ Rashi
Chakra. So with this transit, the message from the Jātaka/ Jataka of the Viṣṇu Avatāra/ Vishnu Avatara,
or the teaching is that we must aspire to the highest morality and the highest value system. Cancer
Ascendant will do well to abide by this.
The position might be different for those who have Karkaṭa Ārūḍha Lagna/ Karka Arudha in the Rāśi
Chakra because some misconceptions about the world of Māya/ Maya if existing, will be quickly
dispensed with by this Gochara.
Ārūḍha Padas are about creation, and reflection of the qualities harboured by the various Bhāvas/
Bhavas/ houses when reckoned from the Lagna. Jupiter is not really about creation but about
preservation and sustenance and so in Karka Ārūḍha Lagna there will some confrontation with the
truth which will be required but then Jupiter will furnish tremendous energies for the upliftment of the
social and financial persona in society during this transit.

IGBT Essay
Very high power IGBTs
Ultra high power, high voltage, power electronics is on the verge of a new era. Two new power
semiconductor technologies, the high voltage IGBT are improving the performance, simplifying the
design and increasing the reliability of applications ranging from 100 s of KVA to many MVA.
In recent years, the performance of industrial power electronics for line voltages up to 600VAC has
advanced rapidly. Initially, improvements were made possible by the development of high current
isolated base darlington transistor modules. More recently, stunning improvements in IGBT
technology has driven performance to new levels while substantially reducing cost. Over the same
period, ultra high power, high voltage, applications ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In applications operating from AC line voltages of 600VAC and less, IGBTs with blocking voltage
ratings of up to 1400V have provided an efficient low cost means of constructing high performance
voltage source inverters. In higher voltage applications GTOs (Gate Turn Off thyristors) have been
used but their limited switching frequency of 300Hz or so, offers little advantage when compared to
other circuit topologies. Clearly, a higher performance, high power semiconductor device is needed.
Today, newly commercialized high voltage IGBTs with blocking voltages to 3300V
The HVIGBT (High Voltage IGBT) module is a logical extension of the technology used in
conventional IGBTs. Several technical challenges had to be overcome in order for these devices to
attain the desired characteristics. First, an IGBT chip with high blocking voltage, reasonably low on
state voltage, and sufficiently wide safe operating area had to be developed. In lower voltage devices,
a buffer layer structure (a.k.a. PT Punch Through) similar to a PIN diode (figure 1a) was found to be
optimally effective for this purpose. The buffer layer in these devices was formed as part of the
epitaxial silicon wafer. Adapting this structure to a high voltage device requires a very thick epitaxial
layer which presents serious cost and yield problems. One way around this problem is to use an NPT
(Non Punch Through) structure (figure 1b) for the device. The NPT structure does not have a buffer
layer and is

  • 2. Ethics And Sustainability Of The Skidmore College Honor Code HONOR CODE: I have not witnessed any wrong doing nor have I personally violated any condition of the Skidmore College Honor Code while taking this examination. I attended a meeting last week with other faculty members. One of them let fly her/his opinion that sustainability does not exist or is, at best, a bankrupt notion that is basically a form of greenwashing and that sustainable development was a joke. Hmmm . . . . Please comment on that assertion. In the process, discuss the big idea of sustainable development, and more generally the concept of sustainability as applied to individual businesses. For that matter, what is a sustainable enterprise? Can being sustainable be good for business? Sustainability has achieved a more ecological tone in the past few decades in terms of a business model, but it originally derives from the concept that a business is successful due to the interconnected areas of economics, culture and ecology. Sustainability is now becoming a somewhat fad and thus it is understandable that it could be misconstrued by some as a form of greenwashing . Greenwashing is the idea that a company markets their green or environmentally friendly changes in policy and values, despite no actual concrete changes in these areas, for example some argue that Fiji Water greenwasher in terms of their marketing as an environmentally friendly water company despite their little effort to actually go carbon neutral. Many companies are seeing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Albert Einstein Without physics, there would be no internet, nuclear weapons, airplanes, or advance technology in general. Isaac Newton is one the biggest contributors to the advancement of physics and the understanding of the world. Another contributor to this is Albert Einstein, the greatest physicist of the modern era. In Philip Shane s highly informative film, Einstein: The Real Story of the Man Behind the Theory, Einstein s story on his theory of general relativity is brought to the surface through the use of scientific expert analysis, demonstrations of Einstein s ideas, reenactments, and the creation of the documentary s atmosphere. In the documentary, they uses various commentaries from scientists, professors, authors, and narrator to give more insight on Einstein. These commentaries give background information on Einstein and simpler explanations to give the viewer a better understanding of his ideas. For example, Michio Kaku, a theoretical physicist explains how Einstein first came up with the idea for his theory of general relativity. Kaku states, In the Spring of 1905, Einstein was riding on a bus, and he looked back at the famous clock tower that dominates Bern, Switzerland, and then he imagined what happens if that bus were racing near the speed of light? The narrator then follows up with a simplified explanation. What Einstein saw was that as he approaches the speed of light, time slows down. Because he is moving at the same speed as light, the light reflecting from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though the population surveyed is less than one hundred I believe the data presented gives great insight on the questioned asked. In statistical literacy, probability as well as mean, median, mode and more are discussed. With probability we learn how to make predictions that are pretty spot on. Probability is defined as the likelihood that a particular outcome or event will occur, as shown in A Particular Introduction to Statistics. So now lets take a look at the data using some statistical analysis concepts. First, lets determine the probability of receiving a correct answer or receiving a wrong answer. The possible outcomes is either a correct answer or a wrong answer. Therefore, the probability equals 1 (CA) over the total of possible outcomes which is 2 (CA and WA) and 1 (WA) over 2 ( CA and WA). Both answers give us 1/2 and since they are the only possibilities they equal 1. In identifying the middle or average of the set of data is known as central tendency. These measures include, mean, median, and mode. Central Tendencies can be used in this research to see what the average number of correct responses between the groups. First we put the data set in order form smallest to greatest. Than we divided by the total number of data sets. Which gives a mean value of 7. This shows that the average number of correct responses among age groups is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Truth In Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven In today s world, the news is constantly shrouded in controversy. Stories of violence and crime are everywhere. Hidden amongst the plethora of articles, there s bound to be a report without a shred of truth in it. As smart as people like to think they are, mistakes in judgement do occur from time to time. A mere glimpse of a shocking headline is enough to throw someone off. Given enough intimidating and persuasive words, it can be quite easy to mislead someone. When a person is overcome with emotion, it can be even more difficult to distinguish what is real or not. Edgar Allan Poe s most prominent poem, The Raven, gives an example. In The Raven, the Raven is not actually real, but rather, it is a manifestation of the speaker s built up vexation; this is relevant to 2017, since people are easily deceived when they are frustrated. The first implication that the Raven is not real is in the beginning of the poem when the bird appears spontaneously. At first, the speaker only hears a tapping at his door. Logically, he assumes that the noise is that of a random visitor. Upon opening the door, however, he sees [darkness] there and nothing more (Poe 24). The speaker returns to his chamber, but the sound continues, this time coming from his window. Instead of finding nothing once more, he is surprised to find a raven fly in and [perch] upon a bust of Pallas just above [his] chamber door (Poe 41). It is hard to explain how the Raven changes its position so quickly. Because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Justifying Reproductive Cloning For Logistical Motives Essay Justifying Reproductive Cloning for Logistical Motives In this age of technology and innovation, what was once science fiction is now becoming a reality. Human reproductive cloning is on the forefront for providing prospective parents with a new mode of reproduction. However, with the concept of reproductive cloning comes an unprecedented set of ethical issues. Issues especially focused on how cloning may affect the child s right to an open future are highlighted by philosophers such as Dena Davis. Davis takes a neutral stance on reproductive cloning and argues that it is morally impermissible when used for duplicative motives, but permissible when used for logistical motives. Duplicative motives are when the genetic replication itself... is the attraction (Davis 160) and the parents wish for their child to be a mere copy of their donor. Logistical motivations are when the parents end goal is simply to have a child that is genetically related (Davis 159). Davis leaves the evaluation of such parental motives in the hands of healthcare professionals. Philosophers McGee and Wilmut add to Davis position, but call for a more holistic evaluation of parental motives and competency by following an adoption model. In this paper, I will support Davis argument on the moral permissibility of reproductive cloning under logistical motivations by addressing the main concerns that surround reproductive cloning. First, I shall reconstruct Davis argument in favor of reproductive cloning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Media Reaction to Immigration Media Reaction to Immigration Name Course Date Submitted Media Reaction to Immigration: The issue of illegal immigration is one of the hotly debated topics in almost every facet of society, especially among political leaders. This topic has also received huge media attention and reaction in the recent past including an article written by William Finnegan and published by The New Yorker. The article focuses on addressing the issue of borderlines and is based on the move by 17 Congress members, who wrote a letter on 28th April 2010 demanding an instant action from President Obama to enhance border security. While the increase in illegal immigration has declined in the recent past, there is still a great need to enhance border security, particularly in the as violence in the neighborhood of U.S. Mexico has continued to escalate at an alarming rate. Therefore, evaluating the need to improve border security to lessening illegal immigration is vital for enhancing the country s security and understanding its impacts on America s economy and labor force. Historical Framework of Illegal Immigration: Illegal immigration has continued to be a major problem in America, particularly in the latter periods of the 20th Century. Notably, the origin of this huge problem can be traced back to the late 19th Century that prompted the enactment of a federal legislation that forbade the entry of prostitutes and convicts in 1875. Peck states that tragedy is a word that has commonly been overused by Americans throughout news articles and magazines when a significant event happens. When referring to September 11th, the crashing of the twin towers, this is a tragic event. Peck states, I do know life is life and theatre is theatre (735), but we as Americans immediately turn life events into narrations where we ourselves play the roles of the characters and the plot is the problem that is affecting us in our life. For example, he had two marriages, but both were unhappy because of Kane s treatment to his women. He also was very close to the successful political career, but lost the chance to change something being a politician because of his rigidity and inability to listen to people and to take into account their opinions. Thus, I can state with confidence that this person made an ambiguous impression on me in the negative sense of this word. From the very beginning I would like to mention that I do not like the main character of the movie due to his way of life and attitude toward other people. Initially, Kane dedicates his life to the idea of service to society, but inevitably evolves into a person, who uses his enormous money and power to meet the desires and permanent whims of own ego. The sequence in the entire film shows that during the movie Kane was desperately trying to deserve Last name: 2 love, but at the same time he behaved himself the way that only repelled people. It is applied from top to bottom layer then bottom to top, this completes one iteration. Assign artificial positions to first layer and calculate barry center weights of nodes at second layer. Reorder the nodes at second layer in ascending order of their barycenter weights. The above equation is for top down sweeps of the layered graph. Similarly use Successors of v in bottom up sweeps in the above equation. This process might not remove all edge crossings but gives a good starting point for further Subgraph Crossing Reduction process. 4.2 Subgraph Crossing Reduction Global crossing reduction reduces some crossings but can reorder the nodes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A topological traversal of subgraph ordering graph gives ordering αo denoting which subgraph is left of other subgraph. 5. POSITIONING The edge crossings are reduced and nodes are placed according to their subgraphs at each layer. Now we need to calculate absolute positions for graph nodes such that there will be enough space to draw subgraph boundaries. To draw subgraph vertical boundaries straight we add trail of dummy vertical nodes one to the left and one to the right side of each layer in every subgraph. The goal is to position the long edges as straight as possible and vertical borders of subgraph strictly vertical without reordering the nodes at any layer. We present a heuristic approach based on Brandes[] approach. The nodes have different height and width. There should be no overlap between any two nodes and node and subgraph boundary. The process consists of three steps. The first and second steps are carried out four times. The first algorithm referred as vertical alignment, to align nodes with its either median upper or median lower neighbor node. This will give maximum possible straight long edges positions in upward and downward direction. The alignment conflicts are resolved with leftmost and rightmost direction. Combination of the directions creates four alignments namely Upward Left, Upward Right, Downward Left and Downward Right. In second step each alignment is given absolute positions according to four alignments. In last step these alignments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the novel The Princess Bride we read of conflict and exploration, and like me if you have seen the film version, you hold a optimist interpretation of the story. That was my opinion beforehand, after comprehending the book I learned that the movie seemed lacking. Luckily, my view of this voyage has transformed from a fanciful one to a more practical notion. William Goldman was aiming to express to us, in the novel version is that time is made up of realism, scattered with romanticism. What I m indicating by this is that even practical people must try to have faith in Twoo wuv. We learn that even thought we have our impractical conceptions, life occurs and life is what is genuine. What The Princess Bride delivers is the truths of life and how life is not evenhanded. The primary thing you spot when you begin The Princess Bride is that it does not begin totally like the movie. It opens by illustrating the imaginary life of William Goldman, where we learned that his father always read him a story called The princess Bride. As a child he retained caringly how his dad had narrated the story of affection and courage. Sadly to discover, that his dad had abridged it while telling the story. This flipped his universe upside down, he says: Who knows when this world is going to change? Who knows before it actually happens, that every prior experience, all the years, were a preparation for . . . nothing. The concept here is not that planning is not valuable, but that all of ... • 16. The Legal Regulation Of Printing Press Disrupted The... Those of us who care about continuing the copyright tradition that regards public access to information as the principal goal of the law are faced with the hard task of searching for and exploring middle ground scenarios wherein author/publisher interests in receiving compensation can be balanced with user/library interests in having access to information on fair and reasonable terms. Finding and implementing such a balance is all the more challenging in view of the messianic fervor that the Green Paper has engendered in the publishing industry. As we search for middle grounds, it may help to realize new technologies have been disrupting existing equilibria for centuries, yet balanced solutions have been found before. The printing press disrupted the equilibrium of its day. When the first legal regulation of printing proved imbalanced, legislative adjustments achieved a public policy balance that has lasted for a considerable period of time. While the history of copyright reveals many examples of disruptions caused by new technology and the construction of new balanced equilibria, one relatively recent instructive example is that of the cable television industry. When cable technology made it possible to transmit television programming to cable subscribers, owners of programming copyrights sought to stop this retransmission, saying it would be their ruination. Courts, however, found no copyright infringement, saying that passive retransmissions of signals were not public ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to this video, computer science is a certain way to impact the world. This course will provide more information about computer science and why it is important to know. Stage 2. The Maze Here, I learned the basics about coding through different games. In the first one, I helped an angry bird move through a maze in order to get to the evil pig. In order to write a program, I needed to drag and drop blocks correctly. Also, by using the repeat block in the game I learned how loops are valuable and how computer repeat commands can be useful so people do not waste their time. Next, I had to use repeat until block to set determined goals such as until the angry bird gets the pig. Another game was about a zombie that I needed to feed, where I also used repeat until command to achieve the goal. Besides, I learnt about fundamental concept in programming if statement. By using if commands the computer program makes a decision. Then, I learn about if/else block command, which made a decision what zombie should do choosing between the two actions. Andrew Jackson, born 1767 in South Carolina, was a prisoner of war during War of Independence; his treatment resulting in a lifelong dislike of Great Britain, ( Andrew Jackson n.d.). After the British captured the belligerent Jackson, he was ordered to clean a British officer s boots. When he refused, the officer drew his sword and slashed Jackson s hand to the bone, (Patrick, n.d.). This memorable treatment by the British inspired Jackson to take up arms against the British in the War of 1812. It also helped to foment Jackson s political ideologies that were staunchly anti federalist. In addition to his encounters with the British during the Revolutionary War, Jackson was notorious for having indulged in many a duel, including one in which he killed Charles Dickenson (Patrick, n.d.). Jackson s early military career consists mainly of his involvement in the War of 1812, followed by the Creek War in 1813 1814, and then culminating in the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. This string of military victories for Jackson was later supplemented by brutal victories in the First Seminole War in 1818. Having had a meager role to play in the War of 1812, Jackson hungered for glory and led the West Tennessee Militia in the Creek War of 1813 1814. This led to promotions for Jackson. Exalted Gurū/ Guru in the Lagna should be considered with reference to the horoscope of Bhagwāna Śrī Rāma/ Bhagwan Shri Rama who had Gurū/ Guru exalted in the natal Lagna in the Rāśi/ Rashi Chakra. So with this transit, the message from the Jātaka/ Jataka of the Viṣṇu Avatāra/ Vishnu Avatara, or the teaching is that we must aspire to the highest morality and the highest value system. Cancer Ascendant will do well to abide by this. The position might be different for those who have Karkaṭa Ārūḍha Lagna/ Karka Arudha in the Rāśi Chakra because some misconceptions about the world of Māya/ Maya if existing, will be quickly dispensed with by this Gochara. Ārūḍha Padas are about creation, and reflection of the qualities harboured by the various Bhāvas/ Bhavas/ houses when reckoned from the Lagna. Jupiter is not really about creation but about preservation and sustenance and so in Karka Ārūḍha Lagna there will some confrontation with the truth which will be required but then Jupiter will furnish tremendous energies for the upliftment of the social and financial persona in society during this transit. • 34. IGBT Essay Very high power IGBTs Ultra high power, high voltage, power electronics is on the verge of a new era. Two new power semiconductor technologies, the high voltage IGBT are improving the performance, simplifying the design and increasing the reliability of applications ranging from 100 s of KVA to many MVA. In recent years, the performance of industrial power electronics for line voltages up to 600VAC has advanced rapidly. Initially, improvements were made possible by the development of high current isolated base darlington transistor modules. More recently, stunning improvements in IGBT technology has driven performance to new levels while substantially reducing cost. Over the same period, ultra high power, high voltage, applications ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In applications operating from AC line voltages of 600VAC and less, IGBTs with blocking voltage ratings of up to 1400V have provided an efficient low cost means of constructing high performance voltage source inverters. In higher voltage applications GTOs (Gate Turn Off thyristors) have been used but their limited switching frequency of 300Hz or so, offers little advantage when compared to other circuit topologies. Clearly, a higher performance, high power semiconductor device is needed. Today, newly commercialized high voltage IGBTs with blocking voltages to 3300V The HVIGBT (High Voltage IGBT) module is a logical extension of the technology used in conventional IGBTs. Several technical challenges had to be overcome in order for these devices to attain the desired characteristics. First, an IGBT chip with high blocking voltage, reasonably low on state voltage, and sufficiently wide safe operating area had to be developed. In lower voltage devices, a buffer layer structure (a.k.a. PT Punch Through) similar to a PIN diode (figure 1a) was found to be optimally effective for this purpose. The buffer layer in these devices was formed as part of the epitaxial silicon wafer. Adapting this structure to a high voltage device requires a very thick epitaxial layer which presents serious cost and yield problems. One way around this problem is to use an NPT (Non Punch Through) structure (figure 1b) for the device. The NPT structure does not have a buffer layer and is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
