Comparing The Faerie Queene And Sir Gawain And The Green...
The two epic poems that will be analyzed in the paper will be, The Faerie Queene and Sir Gawain and
the Green Knight. Throughout this paper it will be theorized as to how and what influences the
continuous developments throughout the poems and of how the authors of these masterpiece stories
uses important symbolism to portray their Christian beliefs in this era of time. The Faerie Queene was
written during the late 15th century when the Reformation Era, a religious revolution that would
define today s beliefs and structures took place. Edmund Spenser wrote The Faerie Queene during this
time in history when England had separated itself from the Catholic Church and went on to create its
own Protestant church. And this poem is full of religion and politics. This poem is almost exactly like
a guide on how an individual can go on and live a holy life if they follow the six values that are
portrayed in each book that is written. Which is obvious because there is six different books that are
dedicated to each value. The six values are: holiness, temperance, chastity, friendship, justice, and
courtesy. So, this shifts the readers focus to all the religious things that are portrayed throughout the
entirety of these books. Throughout the epic poem it is believed that Edmund Spenser holds
Protestantism as a true religion and that Catholicism and its church was false and evil and that theme
is depicted right at the start of the poem, when Red Cross first encounters the monster,

Stakeholders: farmers and residents living around and downstream of Spring Grove Dam. Effects:
how this dam will affect the water availability to residents and farmers in the area. The effects will
address the quantity and quality of the water. How it effects/impacts them: It effects them in the way
that many have lost their homes, or they have a lower water supply. They have also been effected by a
change in weather conditions in the area which could affect crops or cattle, this has been caused by a
large water mass having been built in the area that was not there before. Farmers downstream may
find it difficult to pump water as their water supply may be affected. As the Midlands has a growing
population, a decrease or change in the flow patterns of the Mooi River and a decrease of water to
those that live downstream is not ideal for the population of the area. Economic Impact: how the
building of the dam has affected the area/people of the Midlands in an economic manner such as jobs

Meaning And Mise-En-Scene Analysis Of Taxi Driver
An analysis of how cinematography, editing and mise en scene creates meaning and response in the
Blood Bath scene of Taxi Driver (d. Scorsese 1976)
Taxi Driver was directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Paul Schrader, in the film the director
explores the journey of Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) and his slow descent into madness and
eventually to murder. In the final scene of the film Travis goes to a brothel to murder the people inside
and save the young prostitute, Iris (Jodie Foster). Meaning and response is provoked by lighting,
shots, editing and costume and I will discuss how this relates to the context of the time.
The scene opens with Travis parking the taxi, the colours in the scene are muted and desaturated
creating a dismal atmosphere. The scene is set at night time so all the light in the scene is artificial
from the street lamps; the light is dim but harsh casting dark shadows and creating a chiaroscuro
effect, this is iconic of film noir and crime movies and it signifies that evil ... Show more content on

The stairway and doorway of the building are dark and gothic, the doors are tall and enclosed by two
pillars, this sort of architecture is iconic of horror films and causes the audience to anticipate some
horrific scenes. This horror iconography couples well with the desaturated, sickly yellow colour
scheme inside the building, making the audience feel uncomfortable and signifying the sickening
things that happen inside the building. The corridor is dark with one hanging light in the centre of it,
Travis instantly walks and stands directly under it before he shoots the doorman signifying once again
that he wants attention, that he wants to be in the spotlight for the acts he s committing. This is
Scorsese s way of showing that he thinks the vietnam war was just America attempting to show
dominance and warning other countries against confronting

Essay On Australian Identity
Australia has always been centered around diversity and change, specifically with the vast
multiculturalism and migrant culture throughout the nation. The specifics of Identity hold an
important role in shaping our identity as students and as a nation. Australians pride themselves on
being a land of the free and full of diverse culture. This is specifically referred to in our national
Anthem; For those who ve come across the seas, We ve boundless plains to share; With courage let us
all combine, (McCormick, 1984). Displaying Australia s open attitude towards immigrants and
contributes to the diversity present within our society today. Even before this, much of Australia s
Identity was associated with caucasian culture (Originating from British Settlers). Which is the
dominant perception of Australia through the media with australian representation being present
through the stereotypes of Bogans, which was made popular through shows like Kath and Kim (ABC,
2007). Also, represented through the popular depiction of Australian people the bushman made
popular by movies like Crocodile Dundee (Faiman, 1986) and through famous real life bushman;
Steve Irwin. An important aspect of Australian identity which is consistently neglected is the culture
and representation of the initial owners of the land; the aboriginal people. Throughout history the
constant mistreatment and neglect of the indigenous, has lead to a massive gap in privilege between
the aboriginal people and our

Anna Akhmatova Courage
Anna Akhmatova
Courage: Great Russian word, fit for the songs of our children s children, pure on their tongues, and
free (Anna Akhmatova). This line stated by Anna Akhmatova shows that courage was a strong word to
the Russian people during that time. Anna was a famous poet in Russia who wasn t afraid to stand up
for herself and her beliefs. For years she fought for rights under Stalin s rule for the rights of poetry to
be free and unrestricted. Anna Akhmatova s captivating poetry expresses the environmental factors of
St.Petersburg, her involvement in the Acmeism movement and to her bad experience(s) under Stalin s
rule.
St.Petersburg has been an influence to Anna Akhmatova since she sparked an interest in poetry;
starting in her teens. The city was often used as a thematic role in her poetry, and it gave insight on her
home life. Being born into an aristocratic family being a writer was not the ideal career and is why she
had to take a pen name to not shame her family s name. Often she used her beliefs, religious references
and her spiritual beliefs in her poems. Her interest in 19th century prose lead her to follow in the

Stalin s restrictions on literature were widely felt throughout Russia causing an uproar of responses
and backlash. Her writings went against all government beliefs which caused political indifference.
Anna s poetry was an outcast to what was considered normal in Russian literature during that time.
Due to being pushed into The Union of Soviet Writers in 1934 her and many others were silenced
until Stalin s death. These events led to many themes in her poems often representing a woman who
had to experience struggles similar to what was happening under Stalin s rule. Her family greatly
affected under his rule causing her son to be arrested and her husband being accused of going against

The Views of Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen on War Essay
The Views of Rupert Brooke and Wil
My selected poems are The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce et
Decorum est by Wilfred Owen. Both war poems but conveying their different feelings and presenting
their views of war in radically different ways.
The poets have polarized views of war with Rupert Brooke writing his poem in a romanticized and
patriotic way referring to the possibility of death as a noble cause, for England the land that gave him
life.
This is at odds to how Wilfred Owen views the reality and horror of war. The poets choice of title
Dulce et Decorum est which translated means It is lovely and honourable to die for your country
which in its self is irony, misleads you to think that the poem is going to ... Show more content on

The rest of the stanza continues to describe the men and the things they saw and sounds they heard:
Drunk with fatigue, deaf even to the hoots
Of Gas shells dropping softly behind
The use of the word Drunk is trying to emphasise that the soldier s were acting oblivious to the
happenings around them as if they weren t conscious and even deaf to the sounds of bombs.
In the second stanza the poet portrays an ecstasy of fumbling meaning he creates a huge panic of all
the men trying to apply their gas masks in time and illustrates the image of one soldier who didn t get
his mask on in time.
Gas! Gas! Quick boys An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets
This is the only quote of one of the men saying something and adds to the image of the rush they were
in. The adjective clumsy is used trying to describe how awkward the helmets were to put on, and how
much of a hassle they were to put on.
One of the men in this poem didn t get his mask on in time and was left by the rest in pain, screaming
and becoming weak:
But someone was still yelling out and stumbling
The word someone is used there because Owen is trying to show the man as being just another soldier.
He was nothing special in that he died for his country but no one remembers him as a hero, just one of
the thousands of men who died.
Owen then says how the someone was yelling out for help, for a soldier to come and rescue him and
help him

Similarities Between The Vikings And The Viking
In Norse society, the word Viking meant a sea borne raider. It was used similarly to the way we use the
word pirate . To go a viking meant to undertake sea borne raiding. The word itself was a job
description and did not pertain to everyone. The word Viking did not apply to women, children, slaves
or others who did not go raiding. It wasn t until the nineteenth century when the word passed into
common English usage, where it has come to be used to describe the people of Scandinavia in the
period from the late eighth to eleventh centuries, not just for those who carried out the sea borne
raiding. In some ways, the Vikings were not that different from their European contemporaries.
Scandinavian social hierarchy involved kings and chieftains who protected and controlled certain
regions which is very similar to the Carolingian models. Like other European kings, their titles were
usually heritable. Another similarity between the Vikings and their European contemporaries is that
they both had slaves. Most slaves in Scandinavia and Iceland were house slaves and shared in the
regular work of farming households, which is similar to serfdom in Medieval Europe. The Vikings
also had laws set in place and held legislative and judicial gatherings like many other European
societies during this time. Despite these similarities, there were some major differences between the
Vikings and their European contemporaries. For starters, women in Norse society had more freedom.

The Shift Of Interest From Outputs Generated By Smart...
The shift of interest from outputs generated by smart computers to the actual processes that made the
fascinating results possible, in many ways also marked the beginning of a serious passion and
engagement with technology as a discipline and a field of learning. The exciting and appealing
graphics of the best virtual reality games became less significant than the design, the techniques, the
algorithms and the concepts that enabled those compelling features. As an undergraduate student of
Information Science and Engineering, a barrage of questions from me were a given at the end of
lessons. In the Data Structures Lab, I was the most interactive student with queries on storage,
retrieval, modification, and each of these discussions equipped me with deeper and stronger
understanding of best ways of manipulating and accessing large volumes of data. I began to work on
challenging assignments on my own, looking in detail at techniques, experimenting with these,
identifying patterns and trends. Conceptualizing data, and analyzing it to glean meaningful
information became a major passion and observing my self directed efforts, the professors gave me
herculean tasks that were well above my knowledge levels. I welcomed these challenges and
impressed the teachers with my skills, strong analytical and reasoning abilities and knowledge of
programming. Further, my technical paper on Green Cloud Computing that was presented at a state

What Is The Moral Of The Story Ivan More Than The Zoo
Ivan is a unique gorilla, he was locked up in a small domain for most of his life (27 years) and is taken
away to a zoo where he has to relearn what he should ve learned a long time ago. He lived in a
shopping mall and he had three friends while he was there (Ruby, Bob and Stella), when he got bored,
he drew. Drawing was what got him out of the mall and into a zoo where he enjoyed his life happily.
Before going into the mall, Ivan lived as a human; he and Mack, his caretaker, went everywhere
together. Then, Ivan grew too big and was transferred to the mall where he lived for more than two
decades. In those years, he met some friends, who talked to him and played with him. Stella was an
elephant, she was very wise and told lots of stories to Ivan and Ruby. Next is Bob, he is a stray dog, he

Also, in the zoo, he had a large enclosure where he could play and live, in the mall he had a small

Mack didn t teach Ivan silverback skills either, he had to learn them in the zoo (the other gorillas
taught him by showing Ivan how they behaved), Mack also didn t think of Ivan as a gorilla, more like
an animal to gain people s attention and earn money (one example is Ivan s paintings, Mack just
thinks of them as $20 merchandise while they are meaningful to Ivan); in the zoo they thought of Ivan
as a gorilla and took care of him instead of just locking him in a cage and giving him a couple bananas
once in a while. Mack used to be good to Ivan when Ivan was little; Mack thought of him as a human
and attended to Ivan a lot, until Ivan grew too big and was sent to the

Abstract
The Italian opera was at an ultimate high during the romantic period. Many composers came to life
during this period and became some of the most prominent composers of all time. Giuseppe Verdi who
was grown up into the opera was about to find out what famous looked like. Over five decades he
demonstrated his commitment to drama and composed 28 operas and many were a huge hit.
Nabucco(1841) and Rigoletto(1851), a couple of the most famous operas by Verdi, provide details of
how the life of Verdi was like which made these operas such a hit. One goal is to be able to prove that
Verdi, through the use of his operas, used his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was only the confounded, unordinary and abnormal character that Verdi was searching for at the time.
With a character delivered from a maturation of doubt, cunning, distrustfulness and fatherly love,
Verdi had a creation ready for the new sort of musical drama that he wanted most importantly to make.
To the psyche of an average nineteenth century devotee, Rigoletto s first solo expression more likely
than not appeared to be exceptionally interesting to be sure, as he would without a doubt have
expected right now a twofold aria or even an unadulterated recitative driving us into the two part
harmony with his little girl. Rigoletto s character is dealt with comparatively all through the whole
work. Subsequently, with every one of his defects, he seems to be a standout amongst the most human

When Thinking Of Bob Dylan

Mr. Wormwood
Period 4
When thinking of Bob Dylan, two immediate things come to mind. First off, and most obvious, Mr.
Dylan is known for his nasally voice. This seems to be the first topic of discussion when Bobs name
comes up. Secondly, and more importantly, Bob is known for his talent of song writing, unlike many
other artists in today s world, bob tells a story with all of his songs. Many of his songs are over 5
minutes long, for those who don t know much about music, this is extremely long. He takes time and
puts in immense effort in all of his work, which is why Bob is known for his great work and the
reason for Dylan winning the Nobel Prize for Literature this past year.
Today, I will be reviewing and analyzing the album Desire by Bob Dylan. This album was released on
January 5th, 1976. The entire albums length is 56 minutes and 13 seconds, consisting of 9 songs. This
album contains one of Bob s most famous songs, which will be the first song I will be reviewing. The
album was co written by Jacques Levy. The album is made up of many story songs. This album alone
stirred up some controversy, regarding one of his songs named Joey .
Joey was one of Bob s longest and most famous songs. The song has a length of 11 minutes. This
piece by Dylan stirred up a lot of controversy regarding the gangster Crazy Joey Gallo. Although
Gallo was accused of two murders, this song seems to be sympathizing and glorifying him. The song

Drugs And Drug Addictions
Thousands of families across the United States deal with a child or family member struggling with
drug addiction; Toledo, Ohio is one of the top cities facing a heroin epidemic. Many people try to
avoid the fact that this epidemic is hitting Toledo as hard as it is. Unfortunately, avoiding this situation
will only allow it to grow and more people will suffer from addiction because they feel there is no way
out. Craig Thomas from WTOL 11 reported that the drug is so powerful that people will do anything
to get money to get drugs. Police say heroin is causing crime that hits innocent victims. The route
from Detroit, Michigan to Toledo, Ohio is famously called Heroin Highway because of how many
drugs are being transported using that route. If no changes are made in the city, more drug dealers will
gain seniority throughout the city and more lives will be taken. The only solutions to help this problem
are to hire more law enforcement, give the drug dealers a longer sentence when arrested for the act of
dispersing a lethal drug and the best solution would be to open more detox/ treatment centers for the
addicts who are ready to receive help. One solution to fend off the heroin epidemic is to hire more law
enforcement. By hiring more police officers it would put more men and women on the streets
observing more suspicious locations or common drug areas in Toledo. Which would then help arrest
more drug dealers in the area. By taking more dealers off the streets, it makes it

Use of Language in a Clockwork Orange
Examination of the Use of Language in A Clockwork Orange The created patch work language of
Nadsat in the novel, A Clockwork Orange, satirizes the social classes and gang life of Anthony
Burgess s futuristic society. The most prominent of these tools being his use of a completely new
language and the depiction of family life from the eyes of a fifteen year old English hoodlum. Burgess
effectively broke arcane traditions when he wrote A Clockwork Orange by blending two forms of
effective speech into the vocabulary of the narrator and protagonist, Alex. Burgess, through his
character Alex, uses the common or proper method of vernacular in certain situations, while uses his
own inventive slang language called Nadsat for others. Many ... Show more content on

He is less sure with the gypsy talk, helpful with the rhyming slang luscious glory for hair (rhyming
with upper story) and pretty polly for money (rhyming slang with lolly of obscure origin) and
observant with the amputations (such as guff for guffaw, sarky for sarcastic, and sinny for cinema ),
although his glossing pee and em as pop and mom does scant justice to Burgess s skill in demoticizing
the nineteenth century and faintly upper class papa and mama (Hyman 180).
Stanley Edger Hyman, in his efforts to add a glossary and afterword, may not have effectively
cheapened the novel, but it certainly takes something away from its meaning when every single word
that was meant to be understood through context is highlighted, boldfaced, and slapped with a Webster
s safe dictionary definition. Reading Burgess s A Clockwork Orange is a deceptively easy task when
compared to reading the likes of Shakespeare or Marlowe. A good amount of the work involved in
reading Burgess famous novel is the use of contextual perception. One word expressed one way can
convey no sense of what its meaning is, but when used in another fashion it becomes decipherable. In

incomprehensible: you could peet it with vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom or one or two other

By incorporating the doser into your production line, you help eliminate the buildup of oxygen in the
headspace, as the gas is displaced by the LN2. The removal of oxygen helps preserve the shelf life of
the beer and will allow you to ship the beer and increase your footprint.
The dosed can also is pressurized too. This allows your six packs to be better stored and shipped easily
around the nation.
While the craft beer revolution has focused on glass bottles, many breweries have elected to move
toward canning and using 16 ounce cans to differentiate themselves from the macro brewing giants,
who use 12 ounce containers. The cans also provide a larger surface area available for elaborate
branding design. Chart s dosing apparatus makes this possible.
So whether you are going with the traditional bottling or trending toward the 16 ounce beer can, Chart

Pareto analysis for improving ISDN service
1. Executive Summary

From the 13.000 ports installed in the digital switches, only 6.200 have been sold until end of 2005.
Six years after the implementation of the service in the network, and being in the company s product
portfolio, the number of customers using ISDN service is less than 1.2% from the total number of
customers. Although the company introduced the service almost at the same time as other telecom
operators in Europe, the number of users in others countries is significantly higher (28% in Slovenia,
10% in Hungary, 32% in Germany). The disproportion is evident. The sales of ISDN in the Company
are a problem.
Ron (2000) stated: Since ISDN is digital service and capable of high rates of speed over the same pair
of copper wires that service the POTS infrastructure, combining voice and data over a common
medium, results in improved service capacity and higher quality (p.70).
Although ISDN is a digital service and should result in higher quality, the perception of MakTel
customers of ISDN as a poor service quality is one of the biggest problems for increasing the sales.
According to the faults statistics for 2005, on existing 6200 ISDN subscribers were reported more than
2400 faults. In the previous years, the ratio between the number of subscribers and the faults reported

One of the most applicable theories used in the nursing profession involves Pavalko s eight
dimensions. These are applicable to broad and focused discussion of the nursing profession. Pavalko s
statement greatly defines the major areas of the nursing profession (Zerwekh, Garneau, 2013).
Furthermore, it also says something about the specialties that are present in the current practice of
nursing. Pavalko s eight dimensions can be used by nursing students to further explore the limitless
possibilities that the nursing profession can offer. Educators can also broaden existing knowledge in
order to fit the needs of today s students. In actuality, Pavalko s eight dimensions hits every corner of
the nursing profession however, one of Pavalko s eight dimensions is greatly applicable to the nursing
profession. It states that a profession has a training or educational period. This greatly applies to
nursing; however, being a health professional together with having trends of evidence based practice,
it puts nurses as lifelong learners (Zerwekh, Garneau, 2013). . A true nurse must possess the
knowledge necessary to provide adequate care. This is especially true in handling patients with
complex cases. One must be quick in thinking and can adapt to most situations. Although academic
prowess shown by a student is not a priority, the extrinsic factor for the love of the humanities is the
most important thing that all

Thatcherism Research Paper
Ian Duncan Smith took over after Hague and later in 2003 was preceded by Michael Howard. Both of
these leaders also had failed terribly with leadership. In November 2002, Smith said A small group of
my parliamentary colleagues have decided consciously to undermine my leadership (Smith, 2002).
This was after the vote on gay and unmarried couples to adopt children, in which he expected all
members of his party to vote against. He also told his party to unite or die (Smith, 2002). When there
is weak collective responsibility within a party it surely indicates that leadership is under threat and
has failed. He eventually resigned after losing a confidence vote from his party and Howard became
leader. Howard was undeniably a good politician ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything David Cameron did with his One Nation theory demonstrated what needed to happen

which then later showed in the 2015 election when Cameron won with the vote of the majority.
Cameron shifted away from using the term Thatcherism and gave the party a new brand although, this
brand was not any different to before. But it worked very well for him and his party. One of the
changes he portrayed the public was the idea of a big society, in which he wanted claimed to giving
individuals and communities more control over their destinies (BBC, 2010). The intention behind this
was to make more sections of society feel represented and not only the far right

Compare And Contrast Harry Potter And Odysseus
Homer wrote The Odyssey centuries ago at the 8th Century BCE, yet many themes found are like
modern literature. An example of literature of today s time is J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the
Deathly Hallows. Harry Potter goes through difficult tasks to defeat the Dark Lord, Voldemort.
Odysseus is sailing from the battle of Troy back to his home, Ithaca. Poseidon, the God of the sea,
curses Odysseus for being too arrogant to teach a lesson about being humble. In both books, Harry
Potter and Odysseus go through a series of events for the greater good of society. Harry Potter and
Odysseus face similar journeys when going to the magical world, facing trials, and their return to the
normal world.
Harry Potter and Odysseus both travel through a special threshold to enter the unknown world. Harry
meets up with a group of certified wizards and friends to escape from the mundane world and re enter
the magical world (45 62). Harry almost didn t make it out alive because the Dark Lord s team of
wizards injures Harry. In the Hero s Journey, the crossing of the threshold is how Harry almost dies to
make it into the magical world. In Odysseus case, similar themes pop up. On page 1045, Odysseus had
plundered the stronghold on the proud height of Troy. He travels with his shipmates back to Ithaca, but
an unknown force transports them to the magical world. When traveling and entering the magical
world that was almost stopped by another force. Even then, when they enter the magical

The Prisoner of War Ethic
Early on in the semester, I have found that Chapter 12 has been one of the more intriguing sections to
read. After deciding on a topic for the paper, I combed the book for interesting topics that could relate
to the prisoner of war ethic. In many ways I started my journey with Chapter 12; making it all the
more fitting that I end here as well.
Chapter 12 and the section on Prima Facie Duties cover a good range of personal subjects. This
chapter espouses the ideal that communication is not confined to national or even international
borders. Kales Human Nature, for example, proposes the importance of the human spirit over cultural
boundaries. Though it is not easy, we must communicate with others in a way that does not reflect
back on our own biases and stereotypes in other forms of intercultural communication. And I am
personally fascinated by the concept of moral exclusion. The ability to which we are able to extend
rights to other people is reflective of where they lie in our sphere of moral consideration, I believe.
One of the eight stages of genocide dehumanization comes to mind. As the book notes, this
dehumanization is reflected in communication. Communication, such as propaganda, that lowers the
status of others exemplifies this dehumanization.
We have a tremendous capacity, to turn people into less than us, and once you do that, you can justify
a hell of a lot of awfulness. Greg Pirmann

Water Pollution Is the Contamination of Water Bodies
Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans and groundwater).
Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in these bodies of water; and, in almost all cases
the effect is damaging not only to individual species and populations, but also to the natural biological
communities.
Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies without
adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds.

However where such water is not channeled and drains directly to ground it is a non point source.
[edit] Groundwater pollution
See also: Hydrogeology
Interactions between groundwater and surface water are complex. Consequently, groundwater
pollution, sometimes referred to as groundwater contamination, is not as easily classified as surface
water pollution.[7] By its very nature, groundwater aquifers are susceptible to contamination from
sources that may not directly affect surface water bodies, and the distinction of point vs. non point
source may be irrelevant. A spill or ongoing releases of chemical or radionuclide contaminants into
soil (located away from a surface water body) may not create point source or non point source
pollution, but can contaminate the aquifer below, defined as a toxin plume. The movement of the
plume, a plume front, can be part of a Hydrological transport model or Groundwater model. Analysis
of groundwater contamination may focus on the soil characteristics and site geology, hydrogeology,
hydrology, and the nature of the contaminants.
[edit] Causes of water pollution
The specific contaminants leading to pollution in water include a wide spectrum of chemicals,
pathogens, and physical or sensory changes such as elevated temperature and discoloration. While
many of the chemicals and substances that are regulated may be naturally occurring (calcium, sodium,

Imagery And Symbolism In Father And I By Paar Lagerqvist
The short story is about a Sunday walk in the country taken by a young boy and his father. Written in
first person, it appears simple in nature, but it is actually a more complex story that is depicted by the
author. In his story, Father and I , Paar Lagerqvist uses imagery and symbolism to say that although as
children we have unwavering faith in our parents and that our world basically revolves around them,
at some point as we grow, we realize that there is more to life than this sheltered world. The story
begins on a perfect, bright Sunday afternoon. A father and son wave goodbye to the mother who is
preparing supper, and they head into the woods to enjoy the sounds of the birds and adventure along
the railroad tracks. As the young boy and his father are admiring nature, a train comes rushing along
the tracks. His father saluted the familiar conductor and settled back into the peacefulness of the
afternoon. As dusk begins to fall, the child becomes uneasy about being in the darkening woods. The
young boy s fear grows, but his father remains calm and continues on. Then out of nowhere a mighty
roar of a black train tore through the abyss startling the two out of their quiet state. The train pierced
the night at a frantic speed and the father tells his son that he did not recognize the driver. At this
moment, the boy s perspective on his father and life in general forever changes.
In the exposition of the story, Paar Lagerqvist uses imagery to create a perfect day

History Of Roman And Greek Architecture
Roman and Greek architecture is something to be revered. It is fascinating that people lacking the
advanced technology we have today could create monuments of such magnitude and perfection.
Commonly, these temples were built to worship and honor deities, and so they must be built pristine.
Although the Romans sometimes cut corners when it came to materials in order to remain economic,
they definitely didn t cut any when it came to scale and appearance. Many early civilizations recycled
styles and materials from previous civilizations and monuments, the Romans in particular, and created
their own styles and temples. It only makes sense that people still do this from time to time. There was
a boom in Classical Revival style in the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inside the front entrance, the hallway that circles the rear of the large auditorium has coffered low
ceilings and classical columns. The main corridor floor was of marble; the other hall floors were of
quarter sawed oak; and the classroom floors were made of hard maple. Most of the toilet and shower
rooms were finished in tile, marble and porcelain. Noticeably, marble was used throughout the
building, definitely referencing classical architecture since marble was a very expensive material that
was commonly used in the construction and decor of Roman and Greek Temples. Approaching the
building from the East, one is immediately struck by an obvious air of superiority and timeless
influence. An admirer from below is almost dwarfed by the sheer strength it emits. The school stands
above a tiered seating stadium that steeps sharply towards the East entrance leaving your central focus
on the building that looms proud over the stadium. Trost must have derived the style of the half circle
stadium from theatres such as the one built in Epidaurus Greece by Polykletos the younger in 350 BC.
The function of the tiered seating in the Greek theater was to make sure that even the softest sounds
from the performance could reach the people seated at the very far top

The Main Features of the Spartan Religion
The following essay will focus on the main features of Spartan religion. Religion in Sparta had the
ideas to support a militaristic and superstitious society, which, therefore, influenced the approach to
religion to suit The Great Rhetra. To support and uphold the Spartan society which highlights that the
Spartan religion had many important features such as, Gods and Goddesses which were a part of the
Sparta s polytheism religion which was believed to play a major role in many aspects of their lives.
Myths and legends and how Sparta s devotion to them built their very militaristic and superstitious
religion. Festivals which were important customs and major Eunomia throughout Spartan society.
Death and the Burial processes which was important to the militaristic society to send its honorable
and heroic soldiers to the next stage in life in a respectful and presentable manner. Religious role of
the kings who had a leading and significant outcome of religion in Sparta. All of these main features
of Spartan religion was to make a system that would produce Spartans that were loyal, skillful and had

The most important Spartan Gods and Goddesses were Poseidon, Artemis Orthia, and Apollo. These
gods were respected and worshipped in Sparta like many other gods but their popularity may have
been due to Sparta s view of fighting and physicality, gods were worshipped in Sparta as they were
feared, worshipping not only helped the suppositious side of Sparta gaining

Wilsons Disease
Introduction
Wilson s disease is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, where copper is unable to be absorbed
properly in the body and accumulates in tissue. This condition is known to have neurological and
psychiatric symptoms, due to lesions associated with copper build up in the central nervous system,
along with being associated with liver disease. It is related to a malfunction in the Wilson disease
protein gene on the 13th chromosome; a copper transporting P type ATPase also known as ATP7B
protein. I recently discovered that this disease runs in my family; both my mother and father are
carriers, and unfortunately my sister is affected by Wilson s Disease. I find this interesting because the
disease is so abnormally rare that the gene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

David Sehat s The Jefferson Rule Essay
In The Jefferson Rule, David Sehat outlines the history of American politics and provides exceptional
insight on the government from the Founder s points of view. More particularly, Sehat focused on the
title of the book, The Jefferson Rule, to guide him on his journey through historical reflection. As he
dug deeper into more and more historical events throughout the book, he made a point to tie each
affair back to his key point the Jefferson Rule. He did an excellent job of explaining each historical
scenario mentioned in his book and how they each demonstrated the Rule. Perhaps the most
fundamental basis for Sehat s book is this idea of the Jefferson Rule. Although I m sure there are
multiple ways to interpret it, I believe that I have unraveled the rule in a way that remains consistent
throughout the book. The rule is to make sure, if you re a politician, that your policies align with the
principles of the Founding Fathers. By having a foundation as credible and trusted as the Founding
Fathers backing your policies up, they are taken much more seriously by skeptics. This theme played a
major role throughout the book, and Sehat did an artful job of synthesizing it with many of the
historical events he spoke of. One of the major historical happenings chronicled in The Jefferson Rule
was the Civil War. In discussing this event, Sehat made a point to explain the leading causes and how
the Jefferson Rule factored into its coming. One of these main causes of division

  • 2. Comparing The Faerie Queene And Sir Gawain And The Green... The two epic poems that will be analyzed in the paper will be, The Faerie Queene and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Throughout this paper it will be theorized as to how and what influences the continuous developments throughout the poems and of how the authors of these masterpiece stories uses important symbolism to portray their Christian beliefs in this era of time. The Faerie Queene was written during the late 15th century when the Reformation Era, a religious revolution that would define today s beliefs and structures took place. Edmund Spenser wrote The Faerie Queene during this time in history when England had separated itself from the Catholic Church and went on to create its own Protestant church. And this poem is full of religion and politics. This poem is almost exactly like a guide on how an individual can go on and live a holy life if they follow the six values that are portrayed in each book that is written. Which is obvious because there is six different books that are dedicated to each value. The six values are: holiness, temperance, chastity, friendship, justice, and courtesy. So, this shifts the readers focus to all the religious things that are portrayed throughout the entirety of these books. Throughout the epic poem it is believed that Edmund Spenser holds Protestantism as a true religion and that Catholicism and its church was false and evil and that theme is depicted right at the start of the poem, when Red Cross first encounters the monster, ... Effects: how this dam will affect the water availability to residents and farmers in the area. The effects will address the quantity and quality of the water. How it effects/impacts them: It effects them in the way that many have lost their homes, or they have a lower water supply. They have also been effected by a change in weather conditions in the area which could affect crops or cattle, this has been caused by a large water mass having been built in the area that was not there before. Farmers downstream may find it difficult to pump water as their water supply may be affected. As the Midlands has a growing population, a decrease or change in the flow patterns of the Mooi River and a decrease of water to those that live downstream is not ideal for the population of the area. Economic Impact: how the building of the dam has affected the area/people of the Midlands in an economic manner such as jobs or income as well as the development in labour skills. Social Impact: how the building of Spring Grove Dam has affected the Midlands in any social form, for example an increase of visitors or if the dam is privately owned. • 4. Meaning And Mise-En-Scene Analysis Of Taxi Driver An analysis of how cinematography, editing and mise en scene creates meaning and response in the Blood Bath scene of Taxi Driver (d. Scorsese 1976) Taxi Driver was directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Paul Schrader, in the film the director explores the journey of Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) and his slow descent into madness and eventually to murder. In the final scene of the film Travis goes to a brothel to murder the people inside and save the young prostitute, Iris (Jodie Foster). Meaning and response is provoked by lighting, shots, editing and costume and I will discuss how this relates to the context of the time. The scene opens with Travis parking the taxi, the colours in the scene are muted and desaturated creating a dismal atmosphere. The scene is set at night time so all the light in the scene is artificial from the street lamps; the light is dim but harsh casting dark shadows and creating a chiaroscuro effect, this is iconic of film noir and crime movies and it signifies that evil ... The stairway and doorway of the building are dark and gothic, the doors are tall and enclosed by two pillars, this sort of architecture is iconic of horror films and causes the audience to anticipate some horrific scenes. This horror iconography couples well with the desaturated, sickly yellow colour scheme inside the building, making the audience feel uncomfortable and signifying the sickening things that happen inside the building. The corridor is dark with one hanging light in the centre of it, Travis instantly walks and stands directly under it before he shoots the doorman signifying once again that he wants attention, that he wants to be in the spotlight for the acts he s committing. This is Scorsese s way of showing that he thinks the vietnam war was just America attempting to show dominance and warning other countries against confronting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay On Australian Identity Australia has always been centered around diversity and change, specifically with the vast multiculturalism and migrant culture throughout the nation. The specifics of Identity hold an important role in shaping our identity as students and as a nation. Australians pride themselves on being a land of the free and full of diverse culture. This is specifically referred to in our national Anthem; For those who ve come across the seas, We ve boundless plains to share; With courage let us all combine, (McCormick, 1984). Displaying Australia s open attitude towards immigrants and contributes to the diversity present within our society today. Even before this, much of Australia s Identity was associated with caucasian culture (Originating from British Settlers). Which is the dominant perception of Australia through the media with australian representation being present through the stereotypes of Bogans, which was made popular through shows like Kath and Kim (ABC, 2007). Also, represented through the popular depiction of Australian people the bushman made popular by movies like Crocodile Dundee (Faiman, 1986) and through famous real life bushman; Steve Irwin. An important aspect of Australian identity which is consistently neglected is the culture and representation of the initial owners of the land; the aboriginal people. Throughout history the constant mistreatment and neglect of the indigenous, has lead to a massive gap in privilege between the aboriginal people and our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This line stated by Anna Akhmatova shows that courage was a strong word to the Russian people during that time. Anna was a famous poet in Russia who wasn t afraid to stand up for herself and her beliefs. For years she fought for rights under Stalin s rule for the rights of poetry to be free and unrestricted. Anna Akhmatova s captivating poetry expresses the environmental factors of St.Petersburg, her involvement in the Acmeism movement and to her bad experience(s) under Stalin s rule. St.Petersburg has been an influence to Anna Akhmatova since she sparked an interest in poetry; starting in her teens. The city was often used as a thematic role in her poetry, and it gave insight on her home life. Being born into an aristocratic family being a writer was not the ideal career and is why she had to take a pen name to not shame her family s name. Often she used her beliefs, religious references and her spiritual beliefs in her poems. Her interest in 19th century prose lead her to follow in the footsteps of famous ... • 7. The Views of Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen on War Essay The Views of Rupert Brooke and Wil My selected poems are The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce et Decorum est by Wilfred Owen. Both war poems but conveying their different feelings and presenting their views of war in radically different ways. The poets have polarized views of war with Rupert Brooke writing his poem in a romanticized and patriotic way referring to the possibility of death as a noble cause, for England the land that gave him life. This is at odds to how Wilfred Owen views the reality and horror of war. The poets choice of title Dulce et Decorum est which translated means It is lovely and honourable to die for your country which in its self is irony, misleads you to think that the poem is going to ... The rest of the stanza continues to describe the men and the things they saw and sounds they heard: Drunk with fatigue, deaf even to the hoots Of Gas shells dropping softly behind The use of the word Drunk is trying to emphasise that the soldier s were acting oblivious to the happenings around them as if they weren t conscious and even deaf to the sounds of bombs. In the second stanza the poet portrays an ecstasy of fumbling meaning he creates a huge panic of all the men trying to apply their gas masks in time and illustrates the image of one soldier who didn t get his mask on in time. Gas! Gas! Quick boys An ecstasy of fumbling, Fitting the clumsy helmets This is the only quote of one of the men saying something and adds to the image of the rush they were in. The adjective clumsy is used trying to describe how awkward the helmets were to put on, and how much of a hassle they were to put on. One of the men in this poem didn t get his mask on in time and was left by the rest in pain, screaming and becoming weak: But someone was still yelling out and stumbling The word someone is used there because Owen is trying to show the man as being just another soldier. He was nothing special in that he died for his country but no one remembers him as a hero, just one of the thousands of men who died.

  • 9. Similarities Between The Vikings And The Viking In Norse society, the word Viking meant a sea borne raider. It was used similarly to the way we use the word pirate . To go a viking meant to undertake sea borne raiding. The word itself was a job description and did not pertain to everyone. The word Viking did not apply to women, children, slaves or others who did not go raiding. It wasn t until the nineteenth century when the word passed into common English usage, where it has come to be used to describe the people of Scandinavia in the period from the late eighth to eleventh centuries, not just for those who carried out the sea borne raiding. In some ways, the Vikings were not that different from their European contemporaries. Scandinavian social hierarchy involved kings and chieftains who protected and controlled certain regions which is very similar to the Carolingian models. Like other European kings, their titles were usually heritable. Another similarity between the Vikings and their European contemporaries is that they both had slaves. Most slaves in Scandinavia and Iceland were house slaves and shared in the regular work of farming households, which is similar to serfdom in Medieval Europe. The Vikings also had laws set in place and held legislative and judicial gatherings like many other European societies during this time. Despite these similarities, there were some major differences between the Vikings and their European contemporaries. For starters, women in Norse society had more freedom. Unlike most other ... The shift of interest from outputs generated by smart computers to the actual processes that made the fascinating results possible, in many ways also marked the beginning of a serious passion and engagement with technology as a discipline and a field of learning. The exciting and appealing graphics of the best virtual reality games became less significant than the design, the techniques, the algorithms and the concepts that enabled those compelling features. As an undergraduate student of Information Science and Engineering, a barrage of questions from me were a given at the end of lessons. In the Data Structures Lab, I was the most interactive student with queries on storage, retrieval, modification, and each of these discussions equipped me with deeper and stronger understanding of best ways of manipulating and accessing large volumes of data. I began to work on challenging assignments on my own, looking in detail at techniques, experimenting with these, identifying patterns and trends. Conceptualizing data, and analyzing it to glean meaningful information became a major passion and observing my self directed efforts, the professors gave me herculean tasks that were well above my knowledge levels. I welcomed these challenges and impressed the teachers with my skills, strong analytical and reasoning abilities and knowledge of programming. He lived in a shopping mall and he had three friends while he was there (Ruby, Bob and Stella), when he got bored, he drew. Many composers came to life during this period and became some of the most prominent composers of all time. Giuseppe Verdi who was grown up into the opera was about to find out what famous looked like. Over five decades he demonstrated his commitment to drama and composed 28 operas and many were a huge hit. To the psyche of an average nineteenth century devotee, Rigoletto s first solo expression more likely than not appeared to be exceptionally interesting to be sure, as he would without a doubt have expected right now a twofold aria or even an unadulterated recitative driving us into the two part harmony with his little girl. First off, and most obvious, Mr. Dylan is known for his nasally voice. This seems to be the first topic of discussion when Bobs name comes up. Secondly, and more importantly, Bob is known for his talent of song writing, unlike many other artists in today s world, bob tells a story with all of his songs. Many of his songs are over 5 minutes long, for those who don t know much about music, this is extremely long. He takes time and puts in immense effort in all of his work, which is why Bob is known for his great work and the reason for Dylan winning the Nobel Prize for Literature this past year. Today, I will be reviewing and analyzing the album Desire by Bob Dylan. This album was released on January 5th, 1976. The entire albums length is 56 minutes and 13 seconds, consisting of 9 songs. This album contains one of Bob s most famous songs, which will be the first song I will be reviewing. The album was co written by Jacques Levy. The album is made up of many story songs. This album alone stirred up some controversy, regarding one of his songs named Joey . Joey was one of Bob s longest and most famous songs. The song has a length of 11 minutes. This piece by Dylan stirred up a lot of controversy regarding the gangster Crazy Joey Gallo. Although Gallo was accused of two murders, this song seems to be sympathizing and glorifying him. Drugs And Drug Addictions Thousands of families across the United States deal with a child or family member struggling with drug addiction; Toledo, Ohio is one of the top cities facing a heroin epidemic. Many people try to avoid the fact that this epidemic is hitting Toledo as hard as it is. Unfortunately, avoiding this situation will only allow it to grow and more people will suffer from addiction because they feel there is no way out. Craig Thomas from WTOL 11 reported that the drug is so powerful that people will do anything to get money to get drugs. Police say heroin is causing crime that hits innocent victims. The route from Detroit, Michigan to Toledo, Ohio is famously called Heroin Highway because of how many drugs are being transported using that route. If no changes are made in the city, more drug dealers will gain seniority throughout the city and more lives will be taken. The only solutions to help this problem are to hire more law enforcement, give the drug dealers a longer sentence when arrested for the act of dispersing a lethal drug and the best solution would be to open more detox/ treatment centers for the addicts who are ready to receive help. One solution to fend off the heroin epidemic is to hire more law enforcement. By hiring more police officers it would put more men and women on the streets observing more suspicious locations or common drug areas in Toledo. Which would then help arrest more drug dealers in the area. By taking more dealers off the streets, it makes it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Use of Language in a Clockwork Orange Examination of the Use of Language in A Clockwork Orange The created patch work language of Nadsat in the novel, A Clockwork Orange, satirizes the social classes and gang life of Anthony Burgess s futuristic society. The most prominent of these tools being his use of a completely new language and the depiction of family life from the eyes of a fifteen year old English hoodlum. Burgess effectively broke arcane traditions when he wrote A Clockwork Orange by blending two forms of effective speech into the vocabulary of the narrator and protagonist, Alex. He is less sure with the gypsy talk, helpful with the rhyming slang luscious glory for hair (rhyming with upper story) and pretty polly for money (rhyming slang with lolly of obscure origin) and observant with the amputations (such as guff for guffaw, sarky for sarcastic, and sinny for cinema ), although his glossing pee and em as pop and mom does scant justice to Burgess s skill in demoticizing the nineteenth century and faintly upper class papa and mama (Hyman 180). Stanley Edger Hyman, in his efforts to add a glossary and afterword, may not have effectively cheapened the novel, but it certainly takes something away from its meaning when every single word that was meant to be understood through context is highlighted, boldfaced, and slapped with a Webster s safe dictionary definition. Reading Burgess s A Clockwork Orange is a deceptively easy task when compared to reading the likes of Shakespeare or Marlowe. A good amount of the work involved in reading Burgess famous novel is the use of contextual perception. One word expressed one way can convey no sense of what its meaning is, but when used in another fashion it becomes decipherable. In the introduction to Stanley Edgar Hyman s Nadsat dictionary, he says: At first the vocabulary seems incomprehensible: you could peet it with vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom or one or two other veshches. • 30. Compare And Contrast Harry Potter And Odysseus Homer wrote The Odyssey centuries ago at the 8th Century BCE, yet many themes found are like modern literature. An example of literature of today s time is J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Harry Potter goes through difficult tasks to defeat the Dark Lord, Voldemort. Odysseus is sailing from the battle of Troy back to his home, Ithaca. Poseidon, the God of the sea, curses Odysseus for being too arrogant to teach a lesson about being humble. In both books, Harry Potter and Odysseus go through a series of events for the greater good of society. Harry Potter and Odysseus face similar journeys when going to the magical world, facing trials, and their return to the normal world. Harry Potter and Odysseus both travel through a special threshold to enter the unknown world. Harry meets up with a group of certified wizards and friends to escape from the mundane world and re enter the magical world (45 62). Harry almost didn t make it out alive because the Dark Lord s team of wizards injures Harry. In the Hero s Journey, the crossing of the threshold is how Harry almost dies to make it into the magical world. In Odysseus case, similar themes pop up. On page 1045, Odysseus had plundered the stronghold on the proud height of Troy. He travels with his shipmates back to Ithaca, but an unknown force transports them to the magical world. After deciding on a topic for the paper, I combed the book for interesting topics that could relate to the prisoner of war ethic. In many ways I started my journey with Chapter 12; making it all the more fitting that I end here as well. Chapter 12 and the section on Prima Facie Duties cover a good range of personal subjects. This chapter espouses the ideal that communication is not confined to national or even international borders. Kales Human Nature, for example, proposes the importance of the human spirit over cultural boundaries. Though it is not easy, we must communicate with others in a way that does not reflect back on our own biases and stereotypes in other forms of intercultural communication. And I am personally fascinated by the concept of moral exclusion. The ability to which we are able to extend rights to other people is reflective of where they lie in our sphere of moral consideration, I believe. One of the eight stages of genocide dehumanization comes to mind. As the book notes, this dehumanization is reflected in communication. Communication, such as propaganda, that lowers the status of others exemplifies this dehumanization. We have a tremendous capacity, to turn people into less than us, and once you do that, you can justify a hell of a lot of awfulness. [edit] Groundwater pollution See also: Hydrogeology Interactions between groundwater and surface water are complex. Consequently, groundwater pollution, sometimes referred to as groundwater contamination, is not as easily classified as surface water pollution.[7] By its very nature, groundwater aquifers are susceptible to contamination from sources that may not directly affect surface water bodies, and the distinction of point vs. non point source may be irrelevant. A spill or ongoing releases of chemical or radionuclide contaminants into soil (located away from a surface water body) may not create point source or non point source pollution, but can contaminate the aquifer below, defined as a toxin plume. The movement of the plume, a plume front, can be part of a Hydrological transport model or Groundwater model. • 33. Imagery And Symbolism In Father And I By Paar Lagerqvist The short story is about a Sunday walk in the country taken by a young boy and his father. Written in first person, it appears simple in nature, but it is actually a more complex story that is depicted by the author. In his story, Father and I , Paar Lagerqvist uses imagery and symbolism to say that although as children we have unwavering faith in our parents and that our world basically revolves around them, at some point as we grow, we realize that there is more to life than this sheltered world. The story begins on a perfect, bright Sunday afternoon. A father and son wave goodbye to the mother who is preparing supper, and they head into the woods to enjoy the sounds of the birds and adventure along the railroad tracks. As the young boy and his father are admiring nature, a train comes rushing along the tracks. His father saluted the familiar conductor and settled back into the peacefulness of the afternoon. As dusk begins to fall, the child becomes uneasy about being in the darkening woods. The young boy s fear grows, but his father remains calm and continues on. Then out of nowhere a mighty roar of a black train tore through the abyss startling the two out of their quiet state. The train pierced the night at a frantic speed and the father tells his son that he did not recognize the driver. At this moment, the boy s perspective on his father and life in general forever changes. In the exposition of the story, Paar Lagerqvist uses imagery to create a perfect day ... It is fascinating that people lacking the advanced technology we have today could create monuments of such magnitude and perfection. Commonly, these temples were built to worship and honor deities, and so they must be built pristine. Although the Romans sometimes cut corners when it came to materials in order to remain economic, they definitely didn t cut any when it came to scale and appearance. • 37. David Sehat s The Jefferson Rule Essay In The Jefferson Rule, David Sehat outlines the history of American politics and provides exceptional insight on the government from the Founder s points of view. More particularly, Sehat focused on the title of the book, The Jefferson Rule, to guide him on his journey through historical reflection. As he dug deeper into more and more historical events throughout the book, he made a point to tie each affair back to his key point the Jefferson Rule. He did an excellent job of explaining each historical scenario mentioned in his book and how they each demonstrated the Rule. Perhaps the most fundamental basis for Sehat s book is this idea of the Jefferson Rule. Although I m sure there are multiple ways to interpret it, I believe that I have unraveled the rule in a way that remains consistent throughout the book. The rule is to make sure, if you re a politician, that your policies align with the principles of the Founding Fathers. By having a foundation as credible and trusted as the Founding Fathers backing your policies up, they are taken much more seriously by skeptics. This theme played a major role throughout the book, and Sehat did an artful job of synthesizing it with many of the historical events he spoke of. One of the major historical happenings chronicled in The Jefferson Rule was the Civil War. In discussing this event, Sehat made a point to explain the leading causes and how the Jefferson Rule factored into its coming. One of these main causes of division ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
