Taoism And Confucianism Comparison
Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism have influenced each other and have similar principles. For
example, the wisdom, justice, courage, and moderation are considered the key concepts of
Confucianism and Buddhism. Additionally, the leader of the Taoists faith and philosophy, Lao Tzi, had
Buddhist and Confusion influences in his life that led to the development of Taoism. For example, Lao
Tzi wrote Dao de Ching, which translates to Book of the Way and gives 81 ideas for wisdom, a key
concept of Confucianism and Taoism. Even though both Confucianism and Taoism believe in the Yin
Yang, the principle of balancing chaos in the world, they have distinct differences which distinguish
these two schools of philosophy. For example, Confucianism supports

Sherman Alexie, Louise Erdrich, And Jim Jarmusch
Sherman Alexie, Louise Erdrich, and Jim Jarmusch embody the Native Americans revolution for
education in their work through exposing three of white society s most prominent methods of
attacking Native cultures: forced assimilation, the destruction of cultural identity, and cultural
appropriation. White society forces the assimilation of Native peoples in an attempt to strip them of
their cultural identity and individualism, which white people see as savagery. Natives who once had a
rich and interesting system of religious beliefs were introduced to Christianity during colonization and
forced to accept the teachings of the church. Alexie creates a powerful symbol of forced assimilation

Not to be left out, The Economist published an article about alcoholism affecting Native Americans
titled The Wounds of Whiteclay An Alcoholism Epidemic Among the Lakota Sioux . The article
claims that shops have been making immoral profits from the misery of vulnerable residents of the
reservation (Economist). Substance abuse is one of many reasons that many Natives do not go to
college or receive higher education, as seen when Alexie writes So what was I doing in racist Reardan,
where more than half of every graduating class went to college? Nobody in my family had ever gone
near a college (Alexie, Forney, 56). All of these literary works show that alcoholism, along with other
disadvantages brought to America by Europeans, hinders the success and the future of Natives. After
Non Native people rob Native Americans of their cultures, if not their lives, they romanticize and steal
the culture that they perverted. Every Halloween, one is apt to see a handful of young women
attending parties in costumes titled Sultry Indian Princess or Naughty Native . These immoral
desecrations of Native American cultures disregard the rich history and customs that are woven into
each garment. Such histories and customs are described in the poem Song of the Sky Loom : ... weave

This case study, All s Well That Ends Well, is about a Director and three Academic Advisors from The
University of Chicago, Arts Sciences Department. The case study focuses on the Academic Advisors

with all three Academic Advisor on restructuring their customer service accomplishments to better
serve students in the College of Arts Sciences.
Salovey and Mayer s Emotional Intelligence

and others and the ability to handle emotions and relationships (Bolman and Deal, 2013 p. 171). Joe
Smith the Director of Academic Advising at The University of Chicago has three Academic Advisors

On Wenlock Edge Poem Analysis
Evaluate the use of melody, rhythm and texture in creating an effective setting of the poems by A.E
Housman in On Wenlock Edge by Vaughan Williams.
On Wenlock Edge is a song cycle of six pieces by Vaughan Williams, set to words from A.E Housman
s collection of poems A Shropshire lad . Having studied music with the likes of Ravel, Williams was
very aware of the impressionist movement (particularly in France) that was in full swing at the
beginning of the 20th century he also spent much of his life travelling around England, collection folk
songs (particularly those of the Tudor period). These influences are distinctly heard in On Wenlock
Edge . Put simply, the poems that make up A Shropshire Lad depict country life, however ... Show

The melodies in these pieces also have been used to attain a sense of immersion in the English
countryside, a place where Williams folk songs would have been found. The recitative style melodic
line at the beginning of Is My Team Ploughing? contributes to this feeling as it was written in D
Dorian mode, a particular scale that is very recognisable from it s use in traditional folk songs. A
famous example of this is Greensleves, a traditional Elizabethan folk song written in Dorian mode,
which, like in Williams song, has a very distinctive feel to it.
In the poem that On Wenlock Edge is set to, Housman presents a landscape that is under torment in a
heavy storm, with strong winds. With resources that are not suited to create such an effect (a string
quartet, piano and voice), Williams relies on other composition methods to set the text truthfully. At
the beginning, the strings and piano play triplets and sextuplets, with the strings using tremolo. The
rhythms are often used to present a constant movement, or fluidity in the music, as is used to represent
the wind, with the tremolo adding a slightly frantic, unpredictability to it. At the time that the pieces
were written, programme music had recently become a popular style of composing, particularly shown
by Bedƙich Smetana, whose work Ma Vlast was published in 1872. The piece Vltava from this
describes the journey of the river

Summary Of The Odd One Out

The Odd One Out
On the most famous street in Boston, Newbury, there lays two architectural opposites just across from
one another. The Church of the Covenants a great historical church built in a gothic architectural style
where you would see historians, tour guides or school field trips and a Victoria Secret store that covers
an entire block and is build on the bases of modern architecture where friends and family would go
shopping or for a day out. Why would there be such ancient architecture at a modern vibrant shopping
district such a Newbury? The Church of the Covenants was built in 1867 and the decision to surround
such a historic artifact with a shopping district was done purposefully. The Church when seen seems
very out of place in a street such as Newbury, however, the two polar opposite architectural
masterpieces reflect the diversity of Newbury Street, and as to why it is referred to the time square of
Boston. The different architecture invites different types of people to such a vibrant street making it
not only a tourist attraction but also a street where people from all different demographics come.
The presence of the Convent Church cannot be ignored by anyone when they walk on Newbury Street.
I found it to be very interesting how nothing near the church was taller than it. The architecture of the
street made it so that the all the surrounding shops will be lower and if you looked up you would only

Analysis Of Neil Hughes s The Crucible
Neil Hughes grew up in Liverpool with his mother and father. He was a cheerful and active child, who
was very talkative and appeared to be the most joyful and comical of all the children in the film 7 Up.
Yet after a dramatic turn to which the source is not completely clear, he ended up homeless by age 21.
With an in depth look at his life considering environmental, biological and psychological factors, it
becomes apparent that his life was not a typical one, veering away from any standard timeline and
lacking any amount of stability. From a broad overview, Neil s life appears to completely disregard the
social clock and any standard timeline, however small parts of his life still had a degree of normality.
At seven, Neil was very active ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At age 49 Neil moved to Cambria, and is a member of the local district council. He has his own house
in the countryside and seems to be happier than ever. He is very focused on his religion, something
that is typical of late adulthood, when people start searching for a meaning in life (Santrock, 2015). At
56, when the typical man should be preparing to retire and expecting grandchildren, Neil is just now
able to keep his first job, as a counselor of Cambria. He continued lay ministry and works for a church
(Apted Almond, 2013). Neil strived to make his life normative; he went to a university for a short
time, he tried to find a career, and expressed desire for a relationships. Neil didn t accomplish things in
the typical order of the social clock; and I think this was a huge contributor to his depression. Neil was
raised by his parents, whom he believed were responsible for not addressing real world problems with
him while he was young, or not setting enough obstacles in his way (Apted Almond, 2013). Maybe
Neil s problem was more a lack of the development of coping strategies. Perhaps he never had to deal
with any negativity as a child and therefore never learned to cope with stress. His parents also set high
standards for him from a young age and he felt like this pressure gave him a false sense of confidence
and a large ego. He realized he was completely

Early Ohio Corn Industry
In some societies, there are what seem to be small aspects of that society that create huge impacts on
the social, economic and technological development of that society. For the people of Ohio, corn is an
example of one such aspect. Even before the arrival of the Europeans, corn played a crucial role in the
progress of the civilizations of early Ohio. These people chose to import their food source, rather than
use homegrown sources. Their choice to use corn as a crop had serious ramifications on the economy
and public health of these pre european civilizations in Ohio. After the arrival of the Europeans, corn

consequences of the use of corn for these people, the ability to feed more people, as well as

Serbian Nationalism And Identity Of A Nation State s...
Perhaps one of the biggest points of contention in Serbia is nationalism and identity. Serbian
nationalism is especially unique due to its particular ethnic implications. It can be traced back to the
rise of nationalism in the Balkans during Ottoman rule. Serbia has existed between various empires
and nation states. Many Serbians voice the need for self autonomy, often citing being ruled by
outsiders for hundreds of years. Today Serbia seen by its people as an unfinished state. Thus, the need
for creating autonomous identity is especially relevant.1 Ristic in her essay on Serbian identity, that
the formation of a nation state s identity is crucial to its wellbeing. In general, identity is built upon
three essential interdependent elements: 1. birth, which creates ties to family, nation and to a concrete
geographical space; 2. culture, which forms individuals and groups spiritually and emotionally; 3.
acceptance of common values which help creating communities of values. Hence identity can be
determined on the basis of the following categories: place of living (town or district of town, country,
continent etc), religion, family, profession, nation, age class, ideology etc.2
The problem with Serbian national identity is that there is not enough security in the aforementioned
criterion historically. Ristic states that defining national identity upon values and ideology leads in
Serbia to two relatively opposite understandings of national identity and the values and norms

This photograph was taken on a field trip to Elora Gorge. Elora Gorge is an important landscape in
Ontario and is also a prime example of significant change to a landscape by physical processes.
Largely, it is the result of erosion by water at the end of the last glacial period. The most recent glacier
over North America, the Laurentide Ice Sheet, resided almost all over Canada. Eventually, the sheet
melted, allowing water possessing a strong stream discharge to be released in numerous directions.
One of these melt out pathways formed the Elora Gorge. Similar to how other gorges are created, it
was the energy of the river water rushing from the melting glacier that was able to cut into the surface

Deviance And Culture
I was born in an Eastern country, Vietnam, where people have much respect for the traditional culture.
I have been raised by my whole family which includes all of my relatives, especially my parents. I
cannot tell how many traditional things that I have been told to learn from my culture. My parents
have been teaching me about many cultural values and beliefs. Some of the values that I have
followed the most are the love of learning and the concept of respect. And the only belief that my
parents taught me is Buddhism. Even though Vietnam is a traditional country, it does not mean that we
do not face to deviance. The ways that my parents handle deviance are always the best to me. They
showed me why and how it is deviance and taught me either it is good or bad to have deviance.
First of all, I was born and raised by my parents who I love the most. My parents were both born in
poor families. However, they both work really hard so that my sister and I can have a much better life
than they had. They have been going through many types of problems that life has given them;
however, they have never given up. They teach me many things from simple to complexes such as an
easy homework from school, a process to plant the tree or the ways to become a good person. My
mom always tells me that I have to study hard all the time because education is the best way to reach
my goals in life. My dad tells me that I have to keep moving on even though there are many factors in

The Confession And On The Trinity
Along with his writings in The Confessions and On the Trinity, Augustine of hippo used the section
titles the literal Meaning of Genesis in order to show Gods love through three visions of God.
According to Dupré and Weisman, we experience three kinds of vision: one through the eyes, a second
through the soul, and a third through the intuition of the mind (Dupré and Weisman pg. 71). Most
humans in society are expected to understand the first of all the visions. To see through the eyes as
spiritual vision is expected for most humans. However, to see things in a corporeal way through the
body is more difficult. We use sight as a physical sensory and flesh of God is outside of the body s
vision. The third type of vision is intellectual, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This Sunday the reoccurring message was Growth through Adversity . I treated the mediation as an
after church devotion to help clear my mind and get my ready for the school week. My goal for the
day through mediation was to digest the message from church and clear my mind from the last eek.
Ultimately, I was able to mediate and focus on the clearing of my mind and optimism for the next
week of school ahead of me. (Journal Feb 5th). Like Augustine said, how we think, how we
remember, and how we love will show of true connection with Union with God. So, we must digest
the information we receive through sermons and scriptures and use it to analyze God and grow a
deeper connection with him. In his writings, Augustine makes it clear that direct contact with God will
naturally heal people. Therefore, I believe through the use of a sacred word or phrase, one is able to
create this deeper connection with God. Augustine encourages the idea of humans being made in the
trinity so serenity is only possible if one connects with God and transforms their suffering into
blessings. Such a depiction of the soul being intellectual creates a naturally union with God. Through
Centering of Prayer, the methods of creating a serene space are much easier than changing ones soul.
The person has to rid the mind of distraction and focus in the soul on thoughts that will completely
focus the person. Personally, as a religious person, I chose to adopt a sacred word or phrase

The Three Factors Of Juvenile Delinquency
In the United States, juvenile delinquency is becoming a major problem in the communities across the
country. Because of the actions that these juveniles engage in on a regular basis, taxpayers across the
country are having to shell out hundreds upon thousands of dollars to rehabilitate these children in
order to help them make better choices. This leads citizens to wonder what factors actually cause
juveniles to live a life of crime rather than success. In short, there are three main factors that often
cause children to live a life of crime. These three factors are social influences, psychological
characteristics, and academic potential.
The first factor that often leads to juvenile delinquency involves the child s social influences within
their communities. The community of individuals that a child is normally around on a normal basis
includes family, friends, and neighbors. Depending on the overall quality of the relationship that the
child has with each member of their community, they maybe more or less inclined to commit crimes.
According to the National Criminal Justice Reference Service, juveniles who experience abuse or
neglect from any member of their community may be more inclined to become deviant (n.d.). For
example, if a father abuses his child, the odds of the child s willing to resort to deviance becomes
significantly higher than a father who treats his son like a normal parent. Another way a child can be
socially exposed to deviance is through example. If a parent is always in a run with law enforcement
on a constant basis, that child may grow up to be just like them simply because that is how they were
raised. The third and final social influence comes outside of the family circle where the actions that a
child s friends partake in can also determine whether or not the child will pursue acts of deviance. The
influence of a friend s actions can either be positive or negative depending on the values of the friend.
For instance, say a child named Johnny hangs around a group of troublemakers who always wreck
havoc, smoke joints, and talk trash about everyone. This kind of relationship between Johnny and his
friends can lead Johnny to becoming just like the troublemakers because of peer pressure.

both of the two existing pump manufacturers. Procter amp; Gamble, and probably others, would have

However, Taylor engaged in a form of internal analysis by recognizing that even though these larger
companies had a resource advantage when it came to manufacturing and marketing the liquid soap,
they had no advantage when it came to the pump bottles. He recognized that if he bought all the pump

The Wisdom Of Whores-Bureaucrats Chapter Summary
Elizabeth Pisani s The Wisdom of Whores Bureaucrats, Brothels and the Business of AIDS is a great
book (along with a great website). Elizabeth Pisani is an epidemiologist with years of experience
working on HIV/AIDS (or sex and drugs, as she puts, which sounds a lot, well, sexier) at a variety of
agencies, including UNAIDS. The book is the story of her frustrations at the way the international
community, national governments, NGOS and AIDS activists have dealt with the epidemics, as well as
her hopes in some of the progress made. To me, precisely because the book is data driven, it was not
controversial. My reaction was more, well, if that s what the data show, so be it. But also, I think, the
book was billed as controversial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The writer on the contrary points out that the initiatives have not achieved the required target because
some of them advocate for things which are not practical. Instead, she proposes that emphasis should
be laid on educating people about safe sex and not trying to restrict and control individual liberty
supposedly for the greater good. She believes the disease is not about poverty and gender related
issues, it is behavior change. Many people in African countries get the virus because of having unsafe
sex with multiple partners. This is why the rates of infection are not declining despite the billions
being spent. The honesty box tries to bring out hidden facts behind the myths told by various
researchers concerning HIV/AIDS. Some of these myths are based on the data presented which are
usually inflated to favor funding and to act as a precautionary measure that AIDS exists everywhere.
The book opens the honesty box on drawbacks of medical research within the tropics. Pisani tackles
highly contentious issues with zest, including the possible public health shortcoming of antiretroviral
treatment, in addition to the benefits of mandatory HIV/AIDS testing. The author also presents data to
show that if couples living in Thailand were to have further premarital sex, then their men would be
the least likely to use commercial sex workers and the

Indeed, Shelley s several allusions to Coleridge s poem and the parallel plots that Frankenstein s
tragedy shares with the mariner s tale are intentional references meant to expose her warning purpose.
The mariner s tale is a mirror image of Frankenstein s identical yet backwards. The mariner is
punished for killing a Christ figure, Frankenstein is punished for vitalizing a demon both offenses
concern the illegitimate use of a godly prerogative and a disregard for the sanctity of life. Captain
Walton the warned of course, is also a mariner; however, he sails north and the Ancient Mariner the
warner sailed south. Walton himself is the first to allude directly to the rime saying that he goes to the
land of mist and snow, yet he swears that he shall kill no albatross nor, says he, shall he return as worn
and woeful as the Ancient Mariner (33). His vows are ironic, however, because he is saved from that
ancient fate only by listening to Frankenstein s tale which warns him against his hubristic quest for
knowledge. Toward the end of the book, Captain Walton weighs his chance for discovery and glory
against the lives of his men noting, It is terrible to reflect that the lives of all these men are endangered
through me. If we are lost, my mad schemes are the cause (181). Happily, Frankenstein s mariner like
caution proves effective for the captain who heeds the warning and turns back. The second person

The Importance Of Quality In Advanced Education

Shrew Vs Biancate
Touchstone Picture s 1999 film Ten Things I Hate About You is an adaptation of the eminent
playwright William Shakespeare s 16th century comedy The Taming of the Shrew. The plots follow a
key idea where, Bianca will be allowed to become romantically entangled when Katerina does,
through this key concept the cast encounters many issues and adventures. The productions share
similar plots, this is achieved through the construction of the characters, settings and themes. Through
the construction of the characters the plots of both the play and the film are developed. This is
evidenced by discussing the similarities between the characters in the film and the play such as,

One such similarity that can be seen is her name, as Bianca s name in the film was transferred straight
from the play when the adaptation was created. Other similarities include her suitors and her
personality underneath her innocence. In both the play and the film Bianca is portrayed as a naive
prize that must be won, however what makes her such a complex character is not her innocence but
what lies underneath. Throughout the whole film Bianca constantly surprises everyone with deep
insights such as, when discussing the difference between liking and loving Bianca: You know, there s
a difference between like and love. I like my Skechers, but I love my Prada backpack. Chastity: But I
love my Skechers. Bianca: That s because you don t have a Prada backpack. Even simply ideas like
this show the hidden depth of the character. However, when it comes to Bianca s sister Kat she, like
everyone around her assumes that my sisters a particularly hideous breed of looser and doesn t realise
why Kat is the way she is. until a fight with Kat about her mother s pearls takes an interesting turn
towards Bianca s relationship with Joey, when Kat tells Bianca the reason for her acting out of the
norm is because an uncomfortable encounter with Joey. Furthermore, in the play Bianca doesn t have
as many insights as such, however many quotes suggest that Bianca is by no means short of whits.
One such quote being, Katerina and Bianca s are arguing about who Bianca shall marry is it for him
you do envy me so? Nay, then you jest, and now I well perceive you have but jested with me all this
while. Additionally, many similarities can be seen in Bianca s relationship with Joey in the film and
with Hortensio and Gremio in the play. Some of these similarities include Joey, Hortensio and Gremio

The Characteristics Of Adaptation In Honey Bees
Introduction Adaptation is an evolutionary process in which the organism (or species) adapts itself to
external conditions and other factors that are in the area of its occurrence. Thanks to the adaptation
enabled by natural selection, there are useful (but not purposeful) properties. Thus, biological
evolution differs greatly from other forms of evolution. Natural selection is able to choose from those
randomly generated mutations those that are convenient and useful. Adaptation is often thought of as
adopting new evolutionary strategies and passing through genetic mutations into new forms. Honey
Bees are flying insects who live on nectar and pollen. According to Honeybee center (n.d.); Bees have
a long, straw like tongue called a probiscus that allows them to drink the nectar form deep within
blossoms (para. 2). Hummingbirds are visually distinct in size, the smallest representative of the
whole family, the smallest calypte, is also the smallest bird of the world, the largest representative is
the big hummingbird. Mostly they are strikingly colored, slender birds with small limbs. With the
exception of insects, hummingbirds have the fastest metabolism of all animal species. The reason is
especially fast and very heavy wearing of wings for the body. They live mainly in the nectar of plants,
which is helped by their long beak, which is often different in different species and specialized for a
certain kind of flower. In food, it completely rejects nectar with a lower

Animal Testing Should Not Be Banned
Picture yourself applying your favorite make up or taking medicine prescribed to you by your doctor,
and ask yourself, how do you know it s safe? Have you ever wondered what goes in to make sure that
cosmetics and medicine isn t lethal? A majority of ensuring items such as medicine and cosmetics are
safe to use is done by testing the medicine and cosmetics on a multitude of different kinds of animals
(Abbott 1). Animal testing saved many lives in the past ( Animal , par.7) but as science bred new
methods, much like in vitro, which uses human cells cultivated in a lab, the potential for a replacement
to animal testing arose (Abbott 1). Whether or not one is more effective than the other has been a hot
topic for years, and multiple studies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the animal shows any irritation or damage, it is possible to decide whether or not the chemical is
permissible to use in consumer products. Experiments such as these are performed to test whether or
not items like mascara are safe for humans to use depending on the reaction of the animal (Abbott 1).
Many of these experiments require hundreds of animals to get a clear result (Abbott 1). As animal
testing progressed throughout history, health organizations and industries started the initiation of
alternative tests, which involve a number of different approaches that do not involve animals. Finding
alternatives to testing with animals wasn t a main priority for many, until the European Union initiated
a program called REACH, which stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals
(Abbott 1). This initiative required European countries to document the 30,000+ chemicals that are
used in experiments to measure the safety of cosmetics and medications. Issuing this initiative caused
many agencies to become concerned with how much it would cost to go through all of these animal
tests and document each chemical (Abbott 1). Due to this reason, many began to implement the new
alternatives that were presented to many agencies. These different types of alternatives all stem from
in vitro procedures. In vitro testing uses cells that are cultivated in a lab to form different tissues for
scientists to test. For example, the different

The Great Gatsby Marxism Analysis
Marxist Lense: Oblivious Until Oblivion Obliviousness is the key to happiness in the world of The
Great Gatsby. The Roaring twenties, the book s setting, a time of recklessness and enjoyment had
despair afterwards which is a similar theme to the story. In the story, characters who see certain
situations with clouded judgement make their own, individual happiness plausible. Many of these
characters are oblivious to various aspects of life such as: a destructive lifestyle, hope, and love, and
are able to create temporary but powerful happiness opposed to people who are grounded by the brutal
reality. The 1920 s lifestyle was recklessness and exuberant. The causation of the recklessness was
caused from a familiar substance, alcohol. Alcoholism in story symbolizes blindness in the story and is
similar to the affects of life. Furthermore, the clouded judgement cause from the alcohol is able to
cause a temporary surplus of positive emotions as life s pressure is released with every drink. Relating
to drunkeness, Nick writes during a party, drunk, Yet high over the city our line of yellow windows
must have contributed their share of human secrecy to the casual watcher in the darkening streets, and
I was him too, looking up and wondering. I was within and without simultaneously enchanted and
repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life ( Fitzgerald 35) which exemplifies the 1920 s and the
thrilling effect of alcoholism. Although, at first, the party was awkward, Nick is able to

Eshkevari et al. investigate the effects of electroacupunture (EA) treatment at stomach meridian point

control group that received no treatment; a stress only group exposed to a deep ice/water mixture; the
sham EA group exposed to cold stress followed by EA at a random site; and the EA St36 group
exposed to cold stress followed by EA at St36. After fourteen days, rats exposed to chronic stress and
EA St36 and the non stressed control rats demonstrated similar adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)

significant differences. The authors hypothesized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The authors effectively establish baseline hormone levels by ensuring the stress hormones measured
during experiments are not solely due to the procedural stress of acupuncture needles. Acclamation
ensures that the needles and procedure are no longer novel to the rats and the stress related hormones
primarily reflect exposure to the ice/water treatment.
Although Eshkevari et al. engage in clinically worthy research aided by a beneficial acclamation
protocol, major concerns arise regarding the generalizability of the results due to the utilization of
only male rats. The work of Vieira et al. (1) suggests that sexual dimorphism impacts the stress
response and demonstrates that female rats experience enhanced vulnerability to stress evoked HPA
axis changes. Even if the results of the Eshkevari et al. study propose EA at St36 as a therapeutic
option in male rats, sexual dimorphism may negate any therapeutic effects in female rats and
necessitates future research to determine if EA presents therapeutic benefits in both sexes.
Further concerns arise from the authors conclusion that EA benefits are specific to St36 stimulation.
Eshkevari et al. cite elevated ACTH and CORT levels in sham EA rats as evidence that the
suppression of the stress hormones is specific to EA at St36. The results section, however, reveals

of all the science that shapes the understanding of our place in the universe.
As director of the Hayden Planetarium, Dr. Tyson strayed away from traditional thinking in order to
keep Pluto from being referred to as the ninth planet in exhibits at the center. Dr. Tyson has explained
that he wanted to look at commonalities between objects, grouping the terrestrial planets together, the
gas giants together, and Pluto with like objects, and to get away from simply counting the planets. In
2006, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) confirmed this assessment by changing Pluto to the
dwarf planet classification (Hayden Planetarium).
Dr. Tyson is one of the most in demand science experts. He gives talks across the country and is a
media favorite whenever there is an important science issue making news. Dr. Tyson is known for his

The Greatest Single Cause Of The War Essay
The greatest single cause of the war was the system of secret alliances which developed. How far do
you agree with this interpretation on what caused World War One. The first world war between the
triple entente and the triple alliance is said to be the first modern war. A previously unseen number of
human lives were lost on both sides and because of this when the war ended it came to be known as
the war to end all wars as said by the former president of the United States Woodrow Wilson. The
interpretation above is correct but only to a certain extent, one must understand and fully asses all the
factors of the war before making a judgement. There are two clear origins for the start of WW1, long
term origins and short term origins. Both must be analysed and assessed properly in order to make a
just statement in regard to the main cause of WW1. There are four generalised long term origins of the
first world war, Nationalism, Imperialism, Militarism and the world war one alliances. However, it
must be stated that the long term causes of the war are far more complex and must be dissected and
analysed in depth before truly understanding the long term causes of the war. A short term analysis
aims to explain why the war began when it did, how and why the European powers went to war and
how the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of
Hohenberg played a part in the start of the war. This division of the work will help, to qualify

physical therapist, and speech therapy are done on a weekly basis. The mother even stated that her son

Improving The Health Of The Population
Should improving the health of the population be more important than that of the individual? This is
the controversy that surrounds the idea of public health, and specifically, the life of Henrietta Lacks.
Public health can be explained as the desire to do what is deemed necessary to keep society as a whole
in a healthy state, by eliminating possible causes that may be leading to detrimental outcomes in the
health of our nation. It is the research of cures, immunizations, quarantining, and raising public
awareness in an effort to stop the spread of disease among the community. However, there is a large

She received radiation treatments at John Hopkins hospital, however at this time, there was a
disadvantage in being an African American, because it was unlikely you were given the same quality

not informed that a part of her body was being used for medical research. However at the time, there
was little regulation regarding the ownership over one s own body parts and tissue, so lawfully
nothing was considered illegal. Although this would play hardly any role in the life of Henrietta, the
toll it took on her family was quite large. The controversy of the HeLa cells revolved around the
principle of ethics in public health. Since Henrietta s cells were taken without permission from neither
her nor her family, it is shown that there is a lack of regulation in the law that controls one s ownership
or lack there of over their tissues. Although at first this seemed to not be an issue, it deeply altered the

Margery was able to admit that her suffering was not even comparable to Jesus , I do not suffer as
much sorrow as I would do for our Lord s love, for I only suffer cutting words, and our merciful Lord
Christ Jesus suffered hard strokes, bitter scourgings, and shameful death at the last, for me and for all
mankind, blessed. This passage expressed the goal of her earthly suffering, to try to imitate Jesus
suffering, even though she could not come close to experiencing it. It proved that whether or not she
held herself in high esteem, she understood her inferiority to the holy. She demonstrated a humble
acceptance of the fact that she was only human and not capable of complete greatness. Soon after she
made that statement, she has a profound moment with one of the Duke s men who had arrested her.
The man believed in her spiritual powers and asked her to pray for him if she ever became a saint in
heaven. Margery responded to the man with, Sir, I hope you will be a saint yourself, and every man
that shall come to heaven. This brief moment represented a kinder and less defensive side of Margery.
It is an important concept to understand that everybody has the ability to achieve greatness, in this
case be holy and achieve sainthood, and Margery saw this goodness in a man that had just harmed her.

Mental Illness And Gun Violence In America
Mental Illness and Gun Violence in America
On the night of October 1, 2017, Jason Aldean took to the stage as the final act of what would have
been an epic conclusion to the Route 91 Harvest music festival. With 22,000 attendees, the festival
consisted of three days of laughter, alcohol, and everyone s favorite country music. The audience was
packed tightly around the stage, dancing and singing as Aldean strummed his guitar. It was then that
64 year old Stephen Paddock opened fire on the crowd from the 32nd floor of his Mandalay Bay hotel
room. At the end of his rampage, 58 people were left dead and 489 injured in what is being called the
deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. This act of senseless violence has left law
enforcement and victims scouring for answers as to why such a devastating act was perpetrated. Since
Paddock was found dead in his hotel room from a self inflicted gunshot wound, authorities have
unveiled a life of gambling, fantasies of violence, and a neglected childhood, all stoking the question:
Was mental illness to blame? Though this conclusion is one that US policymakers, journalists, and the
general public tend to align themselves with, psychiatric research and gun violence statistics state
otherwise.
Politics And Assumptions In the aftermath of mass shootings, the United States democratic and
political discourse oftentimes concentrates on the impact of mental illness. For instance, the media did

She concludes by pointing out how difficult it is for low income employees to get by and advocates
policies to provide more social supports or increased wages. I liked Nickel and Dimed because it
revealed to me the realities of the working poor. I have learned that some people end up staying in
motel rooms that cost twice as much as an apartment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The service industry is often underpaid for the work they do, and showing them that you appreciate
and value their work can make all the difference in the world. This next part of the book finds Barbara
in Minneapolis, working at a Wal Mart in the women s clothing section. There is a link between one s
personal appearance and one s financial situation that is brought to my attention in this section. I was
bothered by the author s findings that Wal Mart caters to the lower income families. They offer
inexpensive food items loaded with calories and very little nutritional value and clothes that are
cheaply made and designed to fit overweight people. Much of the food available to low income people
is loaded with empty calories, which leads to obesity, however, their physical appearance become less
important than food in their belly and a roof over their head. Even Barbara, making 7 dollars an hour
at Wal Mart, seeks help from a charitable agency. They prove unable to help her yet they load her up
with a stack of sugary and unhealthy food items. People who have limited budgets and are in poor
health still require their needs to be met. I think it is wonderful that Wal Mart caters to these
customers. The working class often uses Wal Mart as a place to escape, if only for a little while, and
not feel as though they are looked down upon. Class status exists in America and is often exploited by

Petroglyphs Writing History
The idea of communicating ideas between people and generations is not a new one, for millennia
stories, advice, knowledge, has been passed from generation to generation; first orally, then through
petroglyphs, and finally handwriting. Although true handwriting has existed for five thousand years;
first invented by the Sumerians as a means of long distance communication which was necessitated by
trade (Mark, Joshua J. Writing. Ancient History Encyclopedia. Ancient History Encyclopedia, 28 Apr.
2011), it may not be the first form of writing ever invented. Some scholars argue that the petroglyphs
found on cave walls in France and Spain were the first form of writing, these paintings were
pictograms, depicting not only a hunt, but, some theorize, the location of hunts, who participated, and
sometimes even contained, or may have contained, a lesson. Don t hunt buffalo here unless you have a
hunting party , Dangerous Mammoth, kill many hunters , Good water near, many deer come drink .
(Gaur, Albertine. Non linguistic Forms of Writing. Literacy and the Politics of Writing. Bristol, UK:
Intellect, 2000. 16 29. Print.) These petroglyphs helped the Neanderthal tribal society thrive, they
ensured that the tribe could find land that was not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Invented by Austin Palmer in 1888, the method was praised for simplicity and plainness, focusing on
the proximal muscles of the arm rather than the fingers, it allowed students and teachers to write at a
more consistant speed that was said to be able to compete with the typewriter. (wikipedia) Although it
eventually fell out of use in favor of later methods, it is still considered the grandfather of modern
handwriting in most of the world, especially in the United States and England.

The Emergence Of WWI
World War I was the beginning of a new era in world history. It marked the downfall of empires and
the growth of new democratic nations. Although it was a violent war and cost former empires in lives
and resources, after the war the world saw more independent nations and, as the title of the Clements
text says, The Emergence of the Americas (Clements). Although each nation had different paths to,
during, and after the war, in general the nations of the Americas benefit greatly while those in Europe
had to deal with its consequences. Due the various paths each nation took, the various sources
(Clements, Oxford, Zinn, Jackson, and Keylor) also reflect this divergence in consistency of WWI
accounts and effects. The five sources can be compared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin in all the texts, it is agreed that before the war began there was a huge international economic
depression which hurt mostly the Latin American nations. One perspective on Latin America saw a
low in foreign investments before the onset of war due to their monoculture and lack of internal
development and depending on foreign investment (Clements). This makes them very sensitive to
economic changes like the one just before the world war. In contrast, some saw Latin America as a
rapidly growing region, with increases in European migrants (especially German) bring stronger
industries and more investments (Oxford). In addition, according to these historians, the more
aggressive economic changes brought by the German can be interpreted as an economic imperialism
lead by the German Kiser s wanting an empire under the sun (Oxford). During the onset of the war,
many nations saw a cut off imports and exports due to tariffs, blockades, and U boat patrols
(Clements). In Peru, there was a food shortage within the first few weeks of the war in Europe, which
caused internal strife and tension, putting blame on the native/migrated German population
(Clements). In Brazil, German U boats severely impeded on their exports and when they finally
destroyed the key export ships Rio Branco, ParanĂĄ, and Macau, the Brazilians declared war on the
Central Powers (Clements). On the brighter side, many nations like Argentina, Mexico, and Peru saw
increases in nitrate, metal, beef, and oil exports, which helped fund internal development (funding
domestic industries), but helped little for their future development (Clements). Moving north, in the
United States, Americans saw strong anti German propaganda, but also an initial want for neutrality.
Many Americans wanted neutrality because, one, their large immigrant population opposed such
actions, two, the U.S. was

  • 2. Taoism And Confucianism Comparison Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism have influenced each other and have similar principles. For example, the wisdom, justice, courage, and moderation are considered the key concepts of Confucianism and Buddhism. Additionally, the leader of the Taoists faith and philosophy, Lao Tzi, had Buddhist and Confusion influences in his life that led to the development of Taoism. For example, Lao Tzi wrote Dao de Ching, which translates to Book of the Way and gives 81 ideas for wisdom, a key concept of Confucianism and Taoism. Even though both Confucianism and Taoism believe in the Yin Yang, the principle of balancing chaos in the world, they have distinct differences which distinguish these two schools of philosophy. Sherman Alexie, Louise Erdrich, And Jim Jarmusch Sherman Alexie, Louise Erdrich, and Jim Jarmusch embody the Native Americans revolution for education in their work through exposing three of white society s most prominent methods of attacking Native cultures: forced assimilation, the destruction of cultural identity, and cultural appropriation. White society forces the assimilation of Native peoples in an attempt to strip them of their cultural identity and individualism, which white people see as savagery. Natives who once had a rich and interesting system of religious beliefs were introduced to Christianity during colonization and forced to accept the teachings of the church. Not to be left out, The Economist published an article about alcoholism affecting Native Americans titled The Wounds of Whiteclay An Alcoholism Epidemic Among the Lakota Sioux . The article claims that shops have been making immoral profits from the misery of vulnerable residents of the reservation (Economist). Substance abuse is one of many reasons that many Natives do not go to college or receive higher education, as seen when Alexie writes So what was I doing in racist Reardan, where more than half of every graduating class went to college? Nobody in my family had ever gone near a college (Alexie, Forney, 56). All of these literary works show that alcoholism, along with other disadvantages brought to America by Europeans, hinders the success and the future of Natives. After Non Native people rob Native Americans of their cultures, if not their lives, they romanticize and steal the culture that they perverted. Every Halloween, one is apt to see a handful of young women attending parties in costumes titled Sultry Indian Princess or Naughty Native . These immoral desecrations of Native American cultures disregard the rich history and customs that are woven into each garment. • 5. On Wenlock Edge Poem Analysis Evaluate the use of melody, rhythm and texture in creating an effective setting of the poems by A.E Housman in On Wenlock Edge by Vaughan Williams. On Wenlock Edge is a song cycle of six pieces by Vaughan Williams, set to words from A.E Housman s collection of poems A Shropshire lad . Having studied music with the likes of Ravel, Williams was very aware of the impressionist movement (particularly in France) that was in full swing at the beginning of the 20th century he also spent much of his life travelling around England, collection folk songs (particularly those of the Tudor period). These influences are distinctly heard in On Wenlock Edge . Put simply, the poems that make up A Shropshire Lad depict country life, however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The melodies in these pieces also have been used to attain a sense of immersion in the English countryside, a place where Williams folk songs would have been found. The recitative style melodic line at the beginning of Is My Team Ploughing? contributes to this feeling as it was written in D Dorian mode, a particular scale that is very recognisable from it s use in traditional folk songs. A famous example of this is Greensleves, a traditional Elizabethan folk song written in Dorian mode, which, like in Williams song, has a very distinctive feel to it. In the poem that On Wenlock Edge is set to, Housman presents a landscape that is under torment in a heavy storm, with strong winds. With resources that are not suited to create such an effect (a string quartet, piano and voice), Williams relies on other composition methods to set the text truthfully. At the beginning, the strings and piano play triplets and sextuplets, with the strings using tremolo. The rhythms are often used to present a constant movement, or fluidity in the music, as is used to represent the wind, with the tremolo adding a slightly frantic, unpredictability to it. At the time that the pieces were written, programme music had recently become a popular style of composing, particularly shown by Bedƙich Smetana, whose work Ma Vlast was published in 1872. The piece Vltava from this describes the journey of the river ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of The Odd One Out Sarthak Chawla Nathanial Hodes Composition 16th September The Odd One Out On the most famous street in Boston, Newbury, there lays two architectural opposites just across from one another. The Church of the Covenants a great historical church built in a gothic architectural style where you would see historians, tour guides or school field trips and a Victoria Secret store that covers an entire block and is build on the bases of modern architecture where friends and family would go shopping or for a day out. Why would there be such ancient architecture at a modern vibrant shopping district such a Newbury? The Church of the Covenants was built in 1867 and the decision to surround such a historic artifact with a shopping district was done purposefully. The Church when seen seems very out of place in a street such as Newbury, however, the two polar opposite architectural masterpieces reflect the diversity of Newbury Street, and as to why it is referred to the time square of Boston. The different architecture invites different types of people to such a vibrant street making it not only a tourist attraction but also a street where people from all different demographics come. The presence of the Convent Church cannot be ignored by anyone when they walk on Newbury Street. I found it to be very interesting how nothing near the church was taller than it. The architecture of the street made it so that the all the surrounding shops will be lower and if you looked up you would only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At 56, when the typical man should be preparing to retire and expecting grandchildren, Neil is just now able to keep his first job, as a counselor of Cambria. Neil strived to make his life normative; he went to a university for a short time, he tried to find a career, and expressed desire for a relationships. Neil didn t accomplish things in the typical order of the social clock; and I think this was a huge contributor to his depression. Neil was raised by his parents, whom he believed were responsible for not addressing real world problems with him while he was young, or not setting enough obstacles in his way (Apted Almond, 2013). Maybe Neil s problem was more a lack of the development of coping strategies. Perhaps he never had to deal with any negativity as a child and therefore never learned to cope with stress. Serbian nationalism is especially unique due to its particular ethnic implications. It can be traced back to the rise of nationalism in the Balkans during Ottoman rule. Serbia has existed between various empires and nation states. Many Serbians voice the need for self autonomy, often citing being ruled by outsiders for hundreds of years. Today Serbia seen by its people as an unfinished state. Thus, the need for creating autonomous identity is especially relevant.1 Ristic in her essay on Serbian identity, that the formation of a nation state s identity is crucial to its wellbeing. In general, identity is built upon three essential interdependent elements: 1. birth, which creates ties to family, nation and to a concrete geographical space; 2. culture, which forms individuals and groups spiritually and emotionally; 3. acceptance of common values which help creating communities of values. Hence identity can be determined on the basis of the following categories: place of living (town or district of town, country, continent etc), religion, family, profession, nation, age class, ideology etc.2 The problem with Serbian national identity is that there is not enough security in the aforementioned criterion historically. Elora Gorge is an important landscape in Ontario and is also a prime example of significant change to a landscape by physical processes. Largely, it is the result of erosion by water at the end of the last glacial period. The most recent glacier over North America, the Laurentide Ice Sheet, resided almost all over Canada. Eventually, the sheet melted, allowing water possessing a strong stream discharge to be released in numerous directions. One of these melt out pathways formed the Elora Gorge. According to DuprĂ© and Weisman, we experience three kinds of vision: one through the eyes, a second through the soul, and a third through the intuition of the mind (DuprĂ© and Weisman pg. 71). Most humans in society are expected to understand the first of all the visions. To see through the eyes as spiritual vision is expected for most humans. • 15. The Three Factors Of Juvenile Delinquency In the United States, juvenile delinquency is becoming a major problem in the communities across the country. Because of the actions that these juveniles engage in on a regular basis, taxpayers across the country are having to shell out hundreds upon thousands of dollars to rehabilitate these children in order to help them make better choices. This leads citizens to wonder what factors actually cause juveniles to live a life of crime rather than success. In short, there are three main factors that often cause children to live a life of crime. These three factors are social influences, psychological characteristics, and academic potential. The first factor that often leads to juvenile delinquency involves the child s social influences within their communities. The community of individuals that a child is normally around on a normal basis includes family, friends, and neighbors. Depending on the overall quality of the relationship that the child has with each member of their community, they maybe more or less inclined to commit crimes. According to the National Criminal Justice Reference Service, juveniles who experience abuse or neglect from any member of their community may be more inclined to become deviant (n.d.). For example, if a father abuses his child, the odds of the child s willing to resort to deviance becomes significantly higher than a father who treats his son like a normal parent. Another way a child can be socially exposed to deviance is through example. If a parent is always in a run with law enforcement on a constant basis, that child may grow up to be just like them simply because that is how they were raised. The third and final social influence comes outside of the family circle where the actions that a child s friends partake in can also determine whether or not the child will pursue acts of deviance. The influence of a friend s actions can either be positive or negative depending on the values of the friend. For instance, say a child named Johnny hangs around a group of troublemakers who always wreck havoc, smoke joints, and talk trash about everyone. This kind of relationship between Johnny and his friends can lead Johnny to becoming just like the troublemakers because of peer pressure. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Indeed, Shelley s several allusions to Coleridge s poem and the parallel plots that Frankenstein s tragedy shares with the mariner s tale are intentional references meant to expose her warning purpose. The mariner s tale is a mirror image of Frankenstein s identical yet backwards. Captain Walton the warned of course, is also a mariner; however, he sails north and the Ancient Mariner the warner sailed south. Walton himself is the first to allude directly to the rime saying that he goes to the land of mist and snow, yet he swears that he shall kill no albatross nor, says he, shall he return as worn and woeful as the Ancient Mariner (33). His vows are ironic, however, because he is saved from that ancient fate only by listening to Frankenstein s tale which warns him against his hubristic quest for knowledge. Toward the end of the book, Captain Walton weighs his chance for discovery and glory against the lives of his men noting, It is terrible to reflect that the lives of all these men are endangered through me. If we are lost, my mad schemes are the cause (181). Happily, Frankenstein s mariner like caution proves effective for the captain who heeds the warning and turns back. The second person ... Throughout the whole film Bianca constantly surprises everyone with deep insights such as, when discussing the difference between liking and loving Bianca: You know, there s a difference between like and love. I like my Skechers, but I love my Prada backpack. Chastity: But I love my Skechers. Bianca: That s because you don t have a Prada backpack. • 24. The Characteristics Of Adaptation In Honey Bees Introduction Adaptation is an evolutionary process in which the organism (or species) adapts itself to external conditions and other factors that are in the area of its occurrence. Thanks to the adaptation enabled by natural selection, there are useful (but not purposeful) properties. Thus, biological evolution differs greatly from other forms of evolution. Natural selection is able to choose from those randomly generated mutations those that are convenient and useful. Adaptation is often thought of as adopting new evolutionary strategies and passing through genetic mutations into new forms. Honey Bees are flying insects who live on nectar and pollen. According to Honeybee center (n.d.); Bees have a long, straw like tongue called a probiscus that allows them to drink the nectar form deep within blossoms (para. 2). Hummingbirds are visually distinct in size, the smallest representative of the whole family, the smallest calypte, is also the smallest bird of the world, the largest representative is the big hummingbird. Mostly they are strikingly colored, slender birds with small limbs. With the exception of insects, hummingbirds have the fastest metabolism of all animal species. The reason is especially fast and very heavy wearing of wings for the body. They live mainly in the nectar of plants, which is helped by their long beak, which is often different in different species and specialized for a certain kind of flower. Have you ever wondered what goes in to make sure that cosmetics and medicine isn t lethal? A majority of ensuring items such as medicine and cosmetics are safe to use is done by testing the medicine and cosmetics on a multitude of different kinds of animals (Abbott 1). Animal testing saved many lives in the past ( Animal , par.7) but as science bred new methods, much like in vitro, which uses human cells cultivated in a lab, the potential for a replacement to animal testing arose (Abbott 1). If the animal shows any irritation or damage, it is possible to decide whether or not the chemical is permissible to use in consumer products. Experiments such as these are performed to test whether or not items like mascara are safe for humans to use depending on the reaction of the animal (Abbott 1). Many of these experiments require hundreds of animals to get a clear result (Abbott 1). As animal testing progressed throughout history, health organizations and industries started the initiation of alternative tests, which involve a number of different approaches that do not involve animals. Finding alternatives to testing with animals wasn t a main priority for many, until the European Union initiated a program called REACH, which stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals (Abbott 1). This initiative required European countries to document the 30,000+ chemicals that are used in experiments to measure the safety of cosmetics and medications. Issuing this initiative caused many agencies to become concerned with how much it would cost to go through all of these animal tests and document each chemical (Abbott 1). Due to this reason, many began to implement the new alternatives that were presented to many agencies. These different types of alternatives all stem from in vitro procedures. The Roaring twenties, the book s setting, a time of recklessness and enjoyment had despair afterwards which is a similar theme to the story. In the story, characters who see certain situations with clouded judgement make their own, individual happiness plausible. Many of these characters are oblivious to various aspects of life such as: a destructive lifestyle, hope, and love, and are able to create temporary but powerful happiness opposed to people who are grounded by the brutal reality. The 1920 s lifestyle was recklessness and exuberant. The causation of the recklessness was caused from a familiar substance, alcohol. Alcoholism in story symbolizes blindness in the story and is similar to the affects of life. Furthermore, the clouded judgement cause from the alcohol is able to cause a temporary surplus of positive emotions as life s pressure is released with every drink. Although Eshkevari et al. engage in clinically worthy research aided by a beneficial acclamation protocol, major concerns arise regarding the generalizability of the results due to the utilization of only male rats. The work of Vieira et al. (1) suggests that sexual dimorphism impacts the stress response and demonstrates that female rats experience enhanced vulnerability to stress evoked HPA axis changes. Even if the results of the Eshkevari et al. study propose EA at St36 as a therapeutic option in male rats, sexual dimorphism may negate any therapeutic effects in female rats and necessitates future research to determine if EA presents therapeutic benefits in both sexes. • 29. The Greatest Single Cause Of The War Essay The greatest single cause of the war was the system of secret alliances which developed. How far do you agree with this interpretation on what caused World War One. The first world war between the triple entente and the triple alliance is said to be the first modern war. A previously unseen number of human lives were lost on both sides and because of this when the war ended it came to be known as the war to end all wars as said by the former president of the United States Woodrow Wilson. The interpretation above is correct but only to a certain extent, one must understand and fully asses all the factors of the war before making a judgement. There are two clear origins for the start of WW1, long term origins and short term origins. Both must be analysed and assessed properly in order to make a just statement in regard to the main cause of WW1. There are four generalised long term origins of the first world war, Nationalism, Imperialism, Militarism and the world war one alliances. However, it must be stated that the long term causes of the war are far more complex and must be dissected and analysed in depth before truly understanding the long term causes of the war. A short term analysis aims to explain why the war began when it did, how and why the European powers went to war and how the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg played a part in the start of the war. Petroglyphs Writing History The idea of communicating ideas between people and generations is not a new one, for millennia stories, advice, knowledge, has been passed from generation to generation; first orally, then through petroglyphs, and finally handwriting. Although true handwriting has existed for five thousand years; first invented by the Sumerians as a means of long distance communication which was necessitated by trade (Mark, Joshua J. Writing. Ancient History Encyclopedia. Ancient History Encyclopedia, 28 Apr. 2011), it may not be the first form of writing ever invented. Some scholars argue that the petroglyphs found on cave walls in France and Spain were the first form of writing, these paintings were pictograms, depicting not only a hunt, but, some theorize, the location of hunts, who participated, and sometimes even contained, or may have contained, a lesson. Don t hunt buffalo here unless you have a hunting party , Dangerous Mammoth, kill many hunters , Good water near, many deer come drink . (Gaur, Albertine. Non linguistic Forms of Writing. Literacy and the Politics of Writing. Bristol, UK: Intellect, 2000. 16 29. Print.) These petroglyphs helped the Neanderthal tribal society thrive, they ensured that the tribe could find land that was not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 41. The Emergence Of WWI World War I was the beginning of a new era in world history. It marked the downfall of empires and the growth of new democratic nations. Although it was a violent war and cost former empires in lives and resources, after the war the world saw more independent nations and, as the title of the Clements text says, The Emergence of the Americas (Clements). Although each nation had different paths to, during, and after the war, in general the nations of the Americas benefit greatly while those in Europe had to deal with its consequences. Due the various paths each nation took, the various sources (Clements, Oxford, Zinn, Jackson, and Keylor) also reflect this divergence in consistency of WWI accounts and effects. The five sources can be compared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To begin in all the texts, it is agreed that before the war began there was a huge international economic depression which hurt mostly the Latin American nations. One perspective on Latin America saw a low in foreign investments before the onset of war due to their monoculture and lack of internal development and depending on foreign investment (Clements). This makes them very sensitive to economic changes like the one just before the world war. In contrast, some saw Latin America as a rapidly growing region, with increases in European migrants (especially German) bring stronger industries and more investments (Oxford). In addition, according to these historians, the more aggressive economic changes brought by the German can be interpreted as an economic imperialism lead by the German Kiser s wanting an empire under the sun (Oxford). During the onset of the war, many nations saw a cut off imports and exports due to tariffs, blockades, and U boat patrols (Clements). In Peru, there was a food shortage within the first few weeks of the war in Europe, which caused internal strife and tension, putting blame on the native/migrated German population (Clements). In Brazil, German U boats severely impeded on their exports and when they finally destroyed the key export ships Rio Branco, ParanĂĄ, and Macau, the Brazilians declared war on the Central Powers (Clements). On the brighter side, many nations like Argentina, Mexico, and Peru saw increases in nitrate, metal, beef, and oil exports, which helped fund internal development (funding domestic industries), but helped little for their future development (Clements). Moving north, in the United States, Americans saw strong anti German propaganda, but also an initial want for neutrality. Many Americans wanted neutrality because, one, their large immigrant population opposed such actions, two, the U.S. was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
