Discrimination, Policies, And The Gender Wage Gap
Discrimination, Policies, and The Gender Wage Gap For decades, the gender wage gap has been an
ongoing issue in Canada. Since then, women s rights have changed and allowed them to obtain career
positions much like men. Although women have successfully fought for their rights, the issues of the
gender wage gap, and sexist stereotypes continue in Canada. The Canadian Government needs to
strengthen its discrimination policies so it can rectify and allow for equal opportunity, support parental
leave, and narrow the gender wage gap. Gender based stereotyping in the workforce informs societal
perceptions and assumptions of what is accepted as a typical male or female roles within the
workplace. Experts still disagree as to which variables inform each stereotype. One expert, Morley
Gunderson suggests that the difference in preference towards the chosen occupation is the key
indicator, not gender profiling (M. Baker, M. Drolet 2010). Another opinion is that women are more
likely to pursue careers within health and education sectors, whereas men are more inclined to pursue
engineering and other related technological fields (J. Cool, 2010). This shows a strong sense of gender
bias, and harsh stereotyping of the gender roles in society. Both men and women have a place within
technological, and educational fields of work. Gender based stereotyping is also present in the
expectations of women outside of the workforce. Employers and executives may anticipate a

Who Is Abigail Adams Struggle For Equality In Colonial...
Consumed with the desire to gain liberty and equality, Americans fought for changes in their society
resulting in the American War for Independence. Unfortunately the fight for independence did not
bring liberty and equality to all Americans. Native Americans, African slaves, and women continued
under the control of those with more money and power, which mainly included white, property
owning men. As time went on the young American Republic continued to fight for ideals
independence eventually making a revolutionary change in the way American s live. Soon after the
American War for Independence, the Declaration of Independence was written and amendments to the

Most countries during the Colonial Era were ruled by a monarchy claiming only one religion to be
true and enforcing that religion on the people under their rule. Some of the first settlers came from
Britain, where Catholicism was forced upon each citizen, whether it was what they believed or not.
Religious freedom was a rare liberty the settlers longed for, causing them to leave their home country
to come to the new world in hopes of gaining the freedom they desired. Yet, even though the
Europeans resented having a ruler tell them what religions were wrong and what religion they had to
be believe, various groups of settlers still came to America and told the Indians their religion was
wrong and forcefully attempted to convert the Indians to their own beliefs. It was many years after
they arrived that the settlers finally established an official law giving religious freedom to all

Pediatrician Discrimination And Discrimination
Pediatricians initiating their job may be unaware of the racism by the hospital staff, majorly white,
unconsciously. Patients who are minorities may experience a sense of fear of going to the hospital to
be unconsciously discriminated against and not being able to connect with someone of their race or
culture. Without this connection, patients feel timid when they are not able to communicate with
someone who is not of their race, gender or culture causing a border between the patient and the
pediatrician. Therefore, as Dossey (2015) says If Black doctors are marginalized, it is a cinch their
patients feel marginalized as well (para. 8). Meaning that not only minority pediatricians are
discriminated, but the patients as well. To forget these patients, have health care issues because their
race, culture, or socioeconomic status leads to a major healthcare disadvantage. Indeed, empathy
should accompany the pediatrician when conversing the patient s problem to create a better experience
for both. Thoughts, feelings, and behavior related to race and ethnicity play a critical role in health
care disparities (Penner, 2013, para. 1). This quote implies that it is not only the physical aspects that
might be judged but also the emotional state as well. In fact, many other factors influence the
unconscious racism to minorities patients and pediatricians such as socioeconomic status, [and]
language proficiency [...etc.] (Penner, 2013, pg. 4). Equally important it is to say the

Landscape Of Africville Analysis
Through exploring everyday life, geography is an essential discipline that is a central part of our
understandings of the world around us. An important part of geography deals with the relationship
between human activity and the physical aspects of where this activity takes place (Bryan, 1958). It is
important to then consider that these physical aspects can often be viewed as landscapes within our
society. The concept of landscape plays an important part within geography and this is a term that has
been associated with a way of seeing the natural world (Cosgrove, 1984). From a geographical
perspective, it is a concept embedded with visual aspects and appearance but also composed of
structure and functions. Although landscapes assist individuals ... Show more content on

Examining Sherene Razack s (2002) term, a white settler society , we are able to gain an
understanding that the province of Nova Scotia took part in being a white settler society in relation to
the Africville community. According to Razack (2002), aspects of a white settler society take place
when there is a racial hierarchy present and spaces are organized to maintain unequal social relations.
The landscape of this community was structured in this way because the community was
predominately of black individuals and therefore the inhabitants were not regarded as being an
important part of the city. This can be demonstrated through the ways in which the community of
Africville was treated by the government of Nova Scotia. For instance, during the time that Africville
was present, this community was denied of essential services in which Nelson (2000) explains,
requests for water lines and sewerage which would bring sanitation and quality of life closer to the
standards for the rest of the city were refused. Police and fire protection and garbage collection on par
with such services received by the rest of Halifax were denied. Living conditions were ironically
described by city officials as intolerable and unsanitary (p. 166). Thus, the landscape of Africville was
associated with being regarded as a slum within the society of Nova Scotia. A slum is referred to as
filthy, foul smelling, wretched, rancorous, uncultivated and lacking care (Nelson, 2000, p. 168). What
is important to take into consideration however, is that the community of Africville was racialized
against which resulted in the landscape being viewed as a slum. In addition, the government not only
denied the community access to basic necessities needed in order to maintain a healthy environment,
but continued to further racialize this community by placing a

An Understanding of Biblical Eschatology Achieved Through...
Introduction
Theologian Vern S. Poythress wrote, Theological systems, whether dispensationalist, covenantal,
Calvinist, Arminian, or even modernist, have a profound influence on the way we approach a given
[biblical] text. There is no portion of scripture that is more influenced by the theological system of
dispensationalist than that of biblical prophecy, particularly in the area of God s redemptive plan from
for humanity. The purpose of this essay is to establish that an appropriate understanding of biblical
eschatology can best be achieved through a dispensational theological perspective.
Covenantalism
To gain a clearer understanding of the tenets of dispensational eschatology, it is necessary to
investigate the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Barry Horner points out, although the covenantalists feign a high regard of the role of Jewish
people in their covenantal construct, there is nothing distinctively covenantal ...when compared with
differing eschatological opinions . Therefore, they view all believers in both the Old and New
Testaments are to be regarded as the same faith community. Both Jewish and gentile believers are to
be collectively designated as the church and thus all the prophecies regarding both Israel and the
church can be amalgamated and regarded as a single entity. Therefore, under covenantalism, the
nation of Israel has no distinct future and the entirety of the Scriptures focuses solely on the
redemption of the church.
Dispensationalism
Dispensationalism interprets God s redemptive history for humanity by identifying specific periods of
time. These periods of time, or dispensations, are understood as having existed in the past, persisting
in the present, and will continue in the future. Charles Ryrie suggests that Dispensationalism can be
viewed as a household run by God. In this household world God is dispensing or administering its
affairs according to His own will and in various stages of revelation in the process of time.
Dr. Mitchell defines the hermeneutical basis of Dispensationalism as an inductive interpretation of the
Scriptures. Beginning with the book of Genesis, Dispensationalism is built on determining the
progressive revelation of

Essay on A Short Story About an Evil Barber in Ring...
In Ring Lardner s short story Haircut , the narrator is a straightforward barber, who goes by the name
Whitey. The story is about Whitey tells a customer about the well liked regular at the local barbershop,
Jim Kendell. At first the barber makes it seem that Jim is a good old fella, but depending on some
people s views, and on Jim s actions towards people, they will quickly discover that Jim is a selfish
jerk. Keeping this in mind there are two important questions that are brought up throughout the story,
which are if Jim s life actually matter to the town and was Jim an evil person; personally, I believe that
Jim was not a completely evil person and that the town did not value his life.

Throughout the story when Jim s wife is mention, Whitney would said As I say, she d of divorced Jim,
only she seen that she couldn t support herself and the kids... However, I believe this wasn t the real
reason why Jim s wife wouldn t divorce him. I think she was afraid of what he would do if she tried,
there was cases where he didn t get he s way he would slash out by playing a cruel joke on someone,
and besides after Jim lost his job with the Carterville people he only did little paid jobs around town
and use the money to buy gin. Whitney mentions that the only reason why the children didn t starve
was, because the stores in town were supporting them; also Jim s wife was trying to make money by
making clothing. Therefore, she wouldn t divorce him for financially reasons, but for safety of the
family.
Now keeping this all in mind, did Jim really matter to the town, or was he just the town s biggest joke?
The conclusion I have about this is that the town was just keeping Jim around just for the stories, so
they would have something to talk about. There was a man named Hod Meyers who was also known
for his jokes around town, but he wasn t as cruel or as famous as Jim, therefore the town didn t like
Jim solely for him. Also, by the way Whitney talks about Jim at the end of the story by saying He
certainly was a card! Comb it wet or dry? leaves the reader with the thought that Jim was just another

Nike s first professional athlete endorser was Romanian tennis player Ilie Năstase, and the company s

Opioid Addicts
The state of Massachusetts has been fighting a vicious battle with the spread of opioid addiction.
Heroin and other opioid drug related addicts have formed a very negative outlook of themselves. A
great deal of people view addicts as classic criminals. Addiction is an actual mental illness, something
that the addict cannot control. Treating these struggling individuals as criminals is an unnecessary and
cruel punishment. The state of Massachusetts needs to break the stigma that all opioid addicts are
criminals and starting viewing opioid addiction as a serious mental illness.

Grievances Of The Declaration Of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was written to declare that America would be free and that it would
no longer be under the rule of King George III. The declaration has a total of twenty seven grievances
which are complaints towards the King and the government of Britain. One of the many grievances
stated in the declaration is that He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the
Consent of our legislature . This whole process began towards the beginning of 1763. After the Seven
Years War ended in February 1763, the king did not withdraw the British troops from America.
Instead, he left a lot of the troops in America forcing the colonists to house and support them.
According to colonialhall.com, the troops stayed in America in order to enforce the laws; especially
with the new taxes that were about to take place. Although the troops did help by protecting colonists
and enforcing the laws, it was unnecessary for them to stay. The colonists knew how to defend
themselves so there was really no reason for this. It seemed that the King did this, not just to enforce
laws, but also to make them fearful so that they would surrender to him. Although the Kings intentions
were to get the colonists to appease to him, that did not happen. This only made the colonists fear that
they would lose all their rights and it made them angry with the King. Jefferson wrote that if the King
did indeed have the right to keep standing armies in the colonies during times of

Morality is dealing with established principles of right and wrong behavior. Lawrence Kohlberg s
levels of moral development explain one s stage of morality in life. Morals leads to the law of
conscience by the actions one chooses to act upon whether for the better or worse. Both Antigone and
Ghandi are stage six based on their universal human rights and their individual conscience. Antigone
shows many examples of her universal human rights and her individual conscience. From Antigone,
Antigone is a stage six because she buries her brother Polynices. She breaks Creon s forbidden law to

Compare and Contrast of the Army and the Marine Corps The United States Armed Forces are the
military forces of the United States. They consist of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and the
Coast Guard. Although the United States Army and Marine Corps are both primarily ground based
forces and offer many similar career fields, the two branches are different in some very crucial areas.
To accurately compare and contrast the services, it is important to look at their overall missions and
career fields. The Army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on 14 June 1775 to

Both the Army and the Marine Corps offers similar career opportunities in areas such as infantry,
armor, aviation, administration. However, due to the Marine Corps attachment with the Navy, it does
not directly employ health care professionals such as nurses, doctors, dentists or psychologists like the
Army. Instead, it receives these services from commissioned Navy medical officers. The Marines are a
highly mobile amphibious attack force. Marines are trained to attack from the water and establish a
beach head, an area of control on foreign soil. After the Marines take territory, other armed forces such
as the US Army move in to maintain control, while the Marines move on. Marines are mobile,
lightweight, and very rapid. I would compare the Marines to the head of the spear, wedging in to get a
foothold and racing ahead once the land has been secured. In addition to acting as a lightweight attack
force from the ocean, Marines are also perfectly capable of taking territory on land. Marines are
trained for rapid deployment, and are often the first US military personnel on site. Marines also guard
American embassies overseas, providing embassy security and safety. In volatile areas, being a
Marine embassy guard is a very risky job. The US Army, on the other hand, is the primary ground
based military forces. As such, the US Army captures and holds

Modern Media And Its Impact On Society
Most countries around the world have cities and people that exist within media saturated spheres.
Consumerism and commodification promote items to most economic classes, and through marketing
they are urged to purchase and consume the products advertised. Japan is no exception to this, but
there is a slight difference that appears to set Japan apart ever so slightly. In Japan, there is a group of
consumers, sometimes regarded as a subculture, known as the otaku. For now, just bear in mind that
the otaku are a group of consumers, often male, who purchase items associated with popular cartoons,
videogames, and comics. They purchase these items and care for them with a reverence comparable to
Western fandoms. The otaku, however, are more than fans. They engage in normal fandom behaviors,
such as consuming popular media, creating works associated with the media they are a fan of, and
supporting the creator or studio that produces the media they are fans of. In addition to these
behaviors, the otaku also live in a society that is heavily influenced by rigid societal structures and
tradition. With these elements in mind, the otaku can be examined in a myriad of ways. Historicism,
sociology, anthropology, fandom studies, and feminism are just a few of the ways in which to examine
this group. Many may wonder why studying this group may be beneficial, and the reason is that this
dissertation has found just one of many reasons to examine the otaku. The reason is that their

Marya Mannes How Do You Know It s Good
In a world that has become immune to accepting all types of art, Marya Mannes believes we have lost
our standards and ability to identify something as good or bad . In her essay, How Do You Know It s
Good , she discusses society s tendency to accept everything out of fear of wrongly labelling
something as being good or bad. She touches on various criteria to judge art, such as the artist s
purpose, skill and craftsmanship, originality, timelessness, as well as unity within a piece rather than
chaos. She says that an individual must decide if something is good on the basis of instinct,
experience, and association (Mannes). I believe that by using standards and the process of association,
we will be able to judge what makes an art piece good in comparison to others. However, Mannes
forces me to consider the difference between what may be appealing versus what is actually good, and
when deciding which art we should accept, which is truly more important. I believe that good and bad
are two ends of a large, subjective spectrum of grey area. It is possible for a piece of art to be good in
some areas and bad in others, and if something does not live up to all of our standards, it does not
necessarily mean it should be dismissed. Thus, I believe my personal standards for judging art are
based on which my standards are largely based on the personal reaction evoked from a piece of art.
Though I agree with Mannes standards to an extent, I believe that certain standards, such as evoking a
personal response, can be more telling of if a piece of art is good as opposed to its timelessness, or the
level of experience of an artist in his/her craft. As Mannes stated, the process of association is essential
in determining the quality of art, by comparing it to the other art we have seen. I am able to judge the
multitexts I have read in class by using the process of association to compare them to each other. For
example, we are able to judge the quality of the pieces by comparing and contrasting them to each
other. All three of our multitexts used certain writing models such as analogy poems and dialogue.

Valuing Uluru As An Aboriginal Cultural Landscape
Title: Valuing Uluru as an Aboriginal Cultural Landscape
By Eliya El Khoury
Heritage and its management assessment 1
Macquarie University
Introduction The United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization (UNESCO) (2012),
define cultural landscape as cultural properties that represent the combined works of nature and of
man. It is a broad concept that can be referred to as the appearance of the earth s surface, and its
depiction in arts, human cultures and general territories (Steve Hoelscher 2007, p. 76). There exist
many cultural landscapes that represent different regions from around the world, and to date there are
88 cultural landscapes and 4 trans boundary properties on the world heritage list (UNESCO) (n.d.).
Uluru, formerly known as Ayers rock, is a dome shaped sandstone monolith located in the Uluṟu Kata
Tjuṯa National Park in the Northern Territory state of Australia (UNESCO) (n.d.). It traditionally lies
in the aboriginal lands of the Anangu people. Uluru was added to the world heritage list year 1987,
and was classified as a cultural landscape due to its rock formations, caves, water springs, fauna and
flora and its ancient aboriginal paintings.
Uluru is a very scenic location; the rock itself is notable to its color alteration according to the time of
day. Uluru is also home to a great number of plants, birds and animals, even though it lies in a desert

with this rise of new vaccines. Such a digression has forced parents to exempt their children from

In addition, several celebrities make an appearance to illustrate their views on this matter. Celebrities
such as former Playboy Playmate Jenny McCarthy and companion Jim Carrey as well as an
appearance from a Redskins cheerleader Desiree Jennings, all who claim there is a connection
between vaccines and neurological disorders. Though there is a vast amount of compelling data from
both sides of the spectrum this issue has yet to be resolved because the situation is very complicated.
Furthermore, the debate has escalated far beyond just the medical risks and benefits but now has an
ideological principle regarding a parent s decision and governmental confines. Scientist Hank
Jennings says, They still want it to be a choice. They don t want it to be compulsory (Palfreman,
2010). Additionally, despite the scientific fact that vaccines are safe, government rule regarding
parental choice is another component increasing the fight against vaccines. Throughout The Vaccine
War, the particular theory exemplified on the human behavior is Cognitive Dissonance Theory.

Analysis Of Mark Twain s The Adventures Of Huckleberry...
CHAPTER III HUMANISM IN MARK TWAINS NOVELS A study of Mark Twain s Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn is an adventure in understanding changes in America itself. The book, at the center
of American geography and consciousness, asks readers to reexamine definitions of civilization and
freedom, right and wrong, social responsibility and inhumanity. Published in 1885, the novel recounts
those pre civil war days when the controversy over slavery, with designated slave and Free states,
disfigured the face of America and its view of itself as a land of the free. Both geographically and
otherwise, the story is an examination of life at the center: the center of America s premier river, the
Mississippi in the middle of the geographical United states, with slave states below, free states above,
which is the route toward freedom and escape for Huck and Jim; the center of one of the foremost
conflicts on American soil, slavery, which soon results in a civil war; the center of the coming of age
of both a young man and a nation that struggle to understand redefinitions of nationhood and freedom,
right and wrong; and the center of a shift from Romanticism to Realism in art and letters that would
provide for a new way for Americans to express and re create themselves. The novel offers an
excellent example of American picaresque fiction and meaningful use of dialect, although this dialect
may be difficult reading for students for whom English is not a first language. Although the final

Eisner insists on having control over the creative process, and that he has to authorize all story

with some of Disney s greatest assets...including Disney s top writers, composers, animators, actors,

Although both have diverse layouts, the deeper you look into its intellectual properties you can find
surprising similarities. A confusion may overcome you as you look at this and think how could you
possibly compare Inferno to A Christmas Carol? They were not easy to find, but if you look deep
enough into something you can certainly surprise yourself. In each story, there are three parts to Dante
and Scrooge s journey. In Inferno, the main divisions of divine comedy are: Inferno, Purgatorio, and
Paradiso. Dante goes through the inferno, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scrooge s life is vaguely going downhill in the story by his rudeness towards others and his need for
monetary gain. He realizes he is in a crisis to change his way of life, and if he does not he will be sent
to Hell. Whereas in Inferno, Dante s crisis is getting to heaven, but if he does not change his way of
life he will stay in Hell as he travels through it. He had a guide just as Scrooge did to help see how
their sins could end them in Hell. Each story shows how Scrooge and Dante had strayed away from
the simple, beaten path to Heaven. They both take the indirect path by being shown the sins not to
inherit. As Dante journeyed through Hell, he stopped in each level and acknowledged each of the
sinners stories. He learns that certain sins determined their level of hell and punishment. Dante learns
not to acquire these sins. Whereas in A Christmas Carol, Dickens solely focuses on just Scrooge s sins,
but he is shown by the ghosts how he became the man he was.
Lastly, Scrooge s friend, Jacob Marley had sent to him the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and
Future to help guide him through his expedition of his own life. Marley was Scrooge s only friend
during his younger years and all the way up to the end of Marley s life. Similar to Dante s lover,
Beatrice who had sent Virgil to help mentor Dante through Hell. These are alike due to the important
role of Marley in Scrooge s life and, the importance

Trader Joe s: Value Based Pricing
In the textbook, the author added the case about Trader Joe s. I would like to mention that I have never
been inside of a Trader Joe s and I have only ever seen one. Until I read this case I didn t even know it
was a food store, but apparently it is very popular so I might just have to go visit one. The thing that
shocked me the most was that Trader Joe s only stocks 4,000 products. The case author says more than
80 percent of the store s brands are private label goods, sold exclusively by Trader Joe s.
The case says that Trader Joe s has put its own twist on the food price value equation call it cheap

In the fourth step, a company designs products to deliver desired value at target price. As I stated

Although the young children cannot read, at least the carer is warned. This will allow them to take
special care with their hot food and drinks when they have children with them. Keeping hot drinks and
food out of the reach of young children will also minimise the risk of them getting burnt, as said by
North Bristol NHS trust. They also recommend that hot drinks should not be held at the same time as
holding another child. Another adjustment they could make could be to put hot drinks into a special
cup with a lid, that when tipped over does not spill and hot food could be left to cool for a few minutes
before being served, meaning that it is not piping hot. As long as the parents and guardians are aware
of the dangers associated with hot food and drinks, then this hazard shouldn t hold a very high
likelihood. My reasoning for suggesting this is that it will reduce the likelihood of a child or an
individual getting burnt if the drink falls as the lid will stop the drink from spilling. The existing
controls that are in place in the food court in the mall are signs warning of hot surfaces and although
most adults should know that food will be served hot, I still believe signs for hot food should be
shown. I would recommend this because it will remind the adults that the food may burn and this will
in turn make them think more before giving the child the hot food. To get to the higher floors in the
mall there are stairs, lifts or

Conditions Warranty
INTRODUCTION: The Sales of Goods Act 1893 provides the definition of condition and warranty .
During the period between 1893 to 1962 both condition and warranty was generally accepted that they
were the only two types of terms which assist in identifying the breaches which entitled the injured
party to terminate the contract. In the turning point of 1962, a new type of term intermediate term
brought about a whole new page into the Law of Contract. Hong Kong Fir Shipping Co. Ltd vs

Kiss And Run Fusion
Kiss and Run vs Full Fusion cell cycling at small hippocampal neurons
The highly important transmission of neurotransmitter at chemical synapses was found to be within
small vesicles (Katz, 1969) that fuse to the presynaptic membrane and then get recycled back into the
neuron. However, the methods of fusion and recycling are still being debated today, particularly at the
locality of small hippocampal neurons which typically contain around 30 functional vesicles (A. M.
Aravanis1, n.d.). The full collapse fusion method (reese, n.d.) is widely accepted and describes the full
collapse of the vesicle membrane into the plasma membrane and the clathrin mediated endocytosis
that follows. However the existence and importance of the Kiss and Run method ... Show more

which allows us to measure the endocytic rate of individual vesicles at these synapses with good time
resolution. In this study they use a pH sensor of exocytosis and endocytosis, a fluorescent protein that
reports fusion and retrieval of vesicles synaptophluorin. developed by meisenbock and colleagues.
This provides a fluoresces signal when the lumen of the vesicle is exposed to the external medium.
The results showed firstly that whatever the fate of the vesicle, the quantal size for retrieval remains
unchanged. They suggest that there are three modes of vesicle retrieval from their findings; firstly, the
fast kiss and run method with a selective fusion pore, a slow (8 21 s) compensatory mode; and a
stranded mode of recycling, in which a vesicle is left on the cell surface until a nerve impulse triggers
its retrieval. We have also observed that, in response to a nerve impulse, synapses with low release
probability primarily use the kiss and run mode, whereas high release probability terminals
predominantly use the compensatory mode of vesicle retrieval. Further work with the use of
synaptophlourin emerged with the combining of pH sensitive GFP (MEISENBOCK, n.d.)to
synaptophysin a synaptic vesicle protein to from syPhy (lagnado, n.d.) however, during these

How Does Kromer Influence In Demian
The Foundation Of Childhood Life can be described as a skyscraper. When childhood morality builds
a strong foundation, one can reach great heights. However, when built with a weak, unstable
foundation, life s obstacles undermine the building, causing it to crumble to the ground. In the novel,
Demian, Hermann Hesse pursues the idea of how external influence from Emil Sinclair s peers, during
his childhood lead to his heretic belief in Abraxas. Through encounters with Kromer and Demian,
Sinclair s ethical spectrum shifts to the darker side of life, which he never confronts before, due to his
parents upbringing. Sinclair s abusive relationship with Kromer catalyzes his metamorphosis from
virtuous to villainous. Weak and vulnerable, he let[s] the devil take the hindmost (16). The devil

How Technology Enters The Picture
A considerable portion of the defense budget is spent on training personnel to operate and maintain
highly complex equipment. In the austere environment that the military operates in, this presents
shortfalls in maintenance. In order to combat this and in an attempt to maintain and adapt DoD
equipment in the face of long logistical supply chains, the DoD deploys machine shops, weld shops
and other fabrication capabilities in theater. However, due to lack of design information,
manufacturing technology and limited engineering design expertise these capabilities are limited and
only provide a small percentage of repair parts that are needed to maintain these complex systems
(DARPA 2013). This is where technology enters the picture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

And why not, innovation has always been a key component of Marine Corps tradition and our

Religion In The Exorcist
The novel The Exorcist, written by William Peter Blatty, was highly controversial and popularly read
during its publication in the 1970 s. This is mainly due to the many ways in which it challenges the
rationality of that time. The story begins with the gradual demon possession of an adolescent girl
named Reagan, and then goes on to narrate how her state of possession affected those around her. The
book makes clear how the religious weakness in the affected members of the community created the
perfect atmosphere for such demon to thrive. The Exorcist ultimately attacks any rational or scientific

Upon arriving for the exorcism, Merrin is ready to engage without any hesitation, whereas Karras

in the demon. Additionally, to prepare, Karras runs around gathering materials, but Merrin is found in
a deep silent preparatory prayer. This contrast serves to make Karras s crisis of faith the focal point,
turning him into the main character. The reader sees his fear and hesitation toward the exorcism
because he has faith in neither the demon nor his God. It is only after the two priests step out that
Karras is able to understand that Reagan s possession does not serve to attack her, but to attack those
around her. He becomes more aware now than ever before that the demon is using his guilt to
underscore his lack of faith. As Damien re enters the room he sees Merrin dead, and is filled with an

invites the demon inside of himself. This serves as the sign he was praying to God for. The reader can

Analysis of The Inquisitor s Argument in The Brothers Karamazov
Dostoevsky makes a strong case against Jesus in The Grand Inquisitor : Jesus did not love humanity
sufficiently to care for the greater good of the race.
The majority of people, according to the Grand Inquisitor, are weak and like sheep. Jesus prized
freedom of faith above all else, and because he cared more for that freedom than for the happiness of
people, the Grand Inquisitor and the Catholic Church, as led by he Inquisitor, reject Jesus. Only the

Earthly bread is the antithesis of freedom. Thoreau understood that as long as a person is dependant on
anyone else for anything, he is not truly free.
The second temptation the Devil poses is for Jesus to cast Himself down on the ground from a high
cliff to prove that He is the son of God. Jesus refuses, reminding Satan that the Scriptures say do not
tempt the Lord your God. The Inquisitor claims that even if man were to have earthly bread in
abundance, without a stable conception of the object of life, man would not continue to live, and any
who would lead men must captivate their consciences. Only three powers can do this, says the
Inquisitor: miracle, mystery, and authority. In the first temptation, Jesus rejected the first power, and
now is rejecting the second. The Inquisitor says, And I ask Thee again... couldst Thou believe for a
moment that men, too, could face such a temptation? Once again, Jesus is refusing to captivate the
souls of men by force.
The third and final temptation that the wise and dread spirit poses Christ is to offer Him all the
kingdoms of the world if Jesus will only bow down and worship him. Begone, Satan, replies

The American Dream In The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The American Dream has enticed generations of people of varying socioeconomic statuses to seek
new lives in a budding nation. While there are innumerable definitions of this dream, the conventional
perspective centers around how accumulating material wealth engenders happiness, the falsity of
which is explored in F. Scott Fitzgerald s 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby. Though Fitzgerald critiques
this viewpoint, he fails to present an alternative. Much like Fitzgerald, I believe that a capitalist view
of the American Dream produces misery, whereas cultivating a conscience and engaging one s
passions elicits the opposite, something that all Americans should endeavor to find. Central to every
interpretation of the American Dream is joy, predominantly believed to stem from accumulating
wealth and possessions, however, the capitalistic nature of our society precludes the majority of
people from achieving this. Immigrants have journeyed here for hundreds of years with the hope of
finding such riches only to find that the disenfranchised remain as such upon arrival. Thus, American
Dream was built on the false pretenses that wealth is distributed relatively equally instead of the
reality that 99% of the nation s wealth belongs to .1% of the population. This makes garnering vast
wealth as Jay Gatsby did nearly impossible, hindering the jubilation of everyone that made theirs
contingent on such an occurrence. Furthermore, fiscal success in The Great Gatsby has an antithetical

Brave New World is a remarkable journey into the future wherein mankind is dehumanized by the
progress and misuse of technology to the point where society is a laboratory produced race of beings
who are clones devoid of identity only able to worship the three things they have been preconditioned

Regardless of the progress of technology, the real issue is not the capabilities and potential uses of
new sciences. The real issue, as it is in Brave New World, is that there will always exist those who use
new technologies for personal gain, evil pursuits and as an attempt to maintain power and control (like
the State does in Brave New World). The ideal concept may be a state of stability that it unchanging,
but this comes from our own internal dichotomy between a need for stability and the conflict with the
instability of being real. No state has ever achieved such a stable condition in the history of mankind
anyway, Historically, no actual political state has ever achieved stability and only a very few have

characteristics and behavior (like manipulating a baby s sex or sexuality), who would choose to allow
this power in only the hands of a few, powerful interests? What would stop powerful white monied
interests from trying to rid society of supposed undesirables like blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals or

Some of the first settlers came from Britain, where Catholicism was forced upon each citizen, whether it was what they believed or not. Religious freedom was a rare liberty the settlers longed for, causing them to leave their home country to come to the new world in hopes of gaining the freedom they desired. Yet, even though the Europeans resented having a ruler tell them what religions were wrong and what religion they had to be believe, various groups of settlers still came to America and told the Indians their religion was wrong and forcefully attempted to convert the Indians to their own beliefs. It was many years after they arrived that the settlers finally established an official law giving religious freedom to all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pediatrician Discrimination And Discrimination Pediatricians initiating their job may be unaware of the racism by the hospital staff, majorly white, unconsciously. Patients who are minorities may experience a sense of fear of going to the hospital to be unconsciously discriminated against and not being able to connect with someone of their race or culture. Without this connection, patients feel timid when they are not able to communicate with someone who is not of their race, gender or culture causing a border between the patient and the pediatrician. Therefore, as Dossey (2015) says If Black doctors are marginalized, it is a cinch their patients feel marginalized as well (para. 8). Meaning that not only minority pediatricians are discriminated, but the patients as well. To forget these patients, have health care issues because their race, culture, or socioeconomic status leads to a major healthcare disadvantage. Indeed, empathy should accompany the pediatrician when conversing the patient s problem to create a better experience for both. Thoughts, feelings, and behavior related to race and ethnicity play a critical role in health care disparities (Penner, 2013, para. 1). This quote implies that it is not only the physical aspects that might be judged but also the emotional state as well. In fact, many other factors influence the unconscious racism to minorities patients and pediatricians such as socioeconomic status, [and] language proficiency [...etc.] (Penner, 2013, pg. 4). • 6. Landscape Of Africville Analysis Through exploring everyday life, geography is an essential discipline that is a central part of our understandings of the world around us. An important part of geography deals with the relationship between human activity and the physical aspects of where this activity takes place (Bryan, 1958). It is important to then consider that these physical aspects can often be viewed as landscapes within our society. The concept of landscape plays an important part within geography and this is a term that has been associated with a way of seeing the natural world (Cosgrove, 1984). From a geographical perspective, it is a concept embedded with visual aspects and appearance but also composed of structure and functions. Although landscapes assist individuals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Examining Sherene Razack s (2002) term, a white settler society , we are able to gain an understanding that the province of Nova Scotia took part in being a white settler society in relation to the Africville community. According to Razack (2002), aspects of a white settler society take place when there is a racial hierarchy present and spaces are organized to maintain unequal social relations. The landscape of this community was structured in this way because the community was predominately of black individuals and therefore the inhabitants were not regarded as being an important part of the city. This can be demonstrated through the ways in which the community of Africville was treated by the government of Nova Scotia. For instance, during the time that Africville was present, this community was denied of essential services in which Nelson (2000) explains, requests for water lines and sewerage which would bring sanitation and quality of life closer to the standards for the rest of the city were refused. Police and fire protection and garbage collection on par with such services received by the rest of Halifax were denied. Living conditions were ironically described by city officials as intolerable and unsanitary (p. 166). Thus, the landscape of Africville was associated with being regarded as a slum within the society of Nova Scotia. A slum is referred to as filthy, foul smelling, wretched, rancorous, uncultivated and lacking care (Nelson, 2000, p. 168). What is important to take into consideration however, is that the community of Africville was racialized against which resulted in the landscape being viewed as a slum. In addition, the government not only denied the community access to basic necessities needed in order to maintain a healthy environment, but continued to further racialize this community by placing a ... There is no portion of scripture that is more influenced by the theological system of dispensationalist than that of biblical prophecy, particularly in the area of God s redemptive plan from for humanity. As Barry Horner points out, although the covenantalists feign a high regard of the role of Jewish people in their covenantal construct, there is nothing distinctively covenantal ...when compared with differing eschatological opinions . Therefore, they view all believers in both the Old and New Testaments are to be regarded as the same faith community. Both Jewish and gentile believers are to be collectively designated as the church and thus all the prophecies regarding both Israel and the church can be amalgamated and regarded as a single entity. Therefore, under covenantalism, the nation of Israel has no distinct future and the entirety of the Scriptures focuses solely on the redemption of the church. Dispensationalism Dispensationalism interprets God s redemptive history for humanity by identifying specific periods of time. These periods of time, or dispensations, are understood as having existed in the past, persisting in the present, and will continue in the future. Charles Ryrie suggests that Dispensationalism can be viewed as a household run by God. In this household world God is dispensing or administering its affairs according to His own will and in various stages of revelation in the process of time. Dr. Mitchell defines the hermeneutical basis of Dispensationalism as an inductive interpretation of the Scriptures. There was a man named Hod Meyers who was also known for his jokes around town, but he wasn t as cruel or as famous as Jim, therefore the town didn t like Jim solely for him. • 12. Grievances Of The Declaration Of Independence The Declaration of Independence was written to declare that America would be free and that it would no longer be under the rule of King George III. The declaration has a total of twenty seven grievances which are complaints towards the King and the government of Britain. One of the many grievances stated in the declaration is that He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislature . This whole process began towards the beginning of 1763. After the Seven Years War ended in February 1763, the king did not withdraw the British troops from America. Instead, he left a lot of the troops in America forcing the colonists to house and support them. According to colonialhall.com, the troops stayed in America in order to enforce the laws; especially with the new taxes that were about to take place. Although the troops did help by protecting colonists and enforcing the laws, it was unnecessary for them to stay. The colonists knew how to defend themselves so there was really no reason for this. It seemed that the King did this, not just to enforce laws, but also to make them fearful so that they would surrender to him. Although the Kings intentions were to get the colonists to appease to him, that did not happen. This only made the colonists fear that they would lose all their rights and it made them angry with the King. Consumerism and commodification promote items to most economic classes, and through marketing they are urged to purchase and consume the products advertised. Japan is no exception to this, but there is a slight difference that appears to set Japan apart ever so slightly. In Japan, there is a group of consumers, sometimes regarded as a subculture, known as the otaku. For now, just bear in mind that the otaku are a group of consumers, often male, who purchase items associated with popular cartoons, videogames, and comics. They purchase these items and care for them with a reverence comparable to Western fandoms. The otaku, however, are more than fans. They engage in normal fandom behaviors, such as consuming popular media, creating works associated with the media they are a fan of, and supporting the creator or studio that produces the media they are fans of. In addition to these behaviors, the otaku also live in a society that is heavily influenced by rigid societal structures and tradition. With these elements in mind, the otaku can be examined in a myriad of ways. Historicism, sociology, anthropology, fandom studies, and feminism are just a few of the ways in which to examine this group. Marya Mannes How Do You Know It s Good In a world that has become immune to accepting all types of art, Marya Mannes believes we have lost our standards and ability to identify something as good or bad . In her essay, How Do You Know It s Good , she discusses society s tendency to accept everything out of fear of wrongly labelling something as being good or bad. She touches on various criteria to judge art, such as the artist s purpose, skill and craftsmanship, originality, timelessness, as well as unity within a piece rather than chaos. She says that an individual must decide if something is good on the basis of instinct, experience, and association (Mannes). I believe that by using standards and the process of association, we will be able to judge what makes an art piece good in comparison to others. However, Mannes forces me to consider the difference between what may be appealing versus what is actually good, and when deciding which art we should accept, which is truly more important. I believe that good and bad are two ends of a large, subjective spectrum of grey area. It is possible for a piece of art to be good in some areas and bad in others, and if something does not live up to all of our standards, it does not necessarily mean it should be dismissed. Thus, I believe my personal standards for judging art are based on which my standards are largely based on the personal reaction evoked from a piece of art. Though I agree with Mannes standards to an extent, I believe that certain standards, such as evoking a personal response, can be more telling of if a piece of art is good as opposed to its timelessness, or the level of experience of an artist in his/her craft. As Mannes stated, the process of association is essential in determining the quality of art, by comparing it to the other art we have seen. I am able to judge the multitexts I have read in class by using the process of association to compare them to each other. For example, we are able to judge the quality of the pieces by comparing and contrasting them to each other. All three of our multitexts used certain writing models such as analogy poems and dialogue. It is a broad concept that can be referred to as the appearance of the earth s surface, and its depiction in arts, human cultures and general territories (Steve Hoelscher 2007, p. 76). CHAPTER III HUMANISM IN MARK TWAINS NOVELS A study of Mark Twain s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is an adventure in understanding changes in America itself. The book, at the center of American geography and consciousness, asks readers to reexamine definitions of civilization and freedom, right and wrong, social responsibility and inhumanity. Published in 1885, the novel recounts those pre civil war days when the controversy over slavery, with designated slave and Free states, disfigured the face of America and its view of itself as a land of the free. Both geographically and otherwise, the story is an examination of life at the center: the center of America s premier river, the Mississippi in the middle of the geographical United states, with slave states below, free states above, which is the route toward freedom and escape for Huck and Jim; the center of one of the foremost conflicts on American soil, slavery, which soon results in a civil war; the center of the coming of age of both a young man and a nation that struggle to understand redefinitions of nationhood and freedom, right and wrong; and the center of a shift from Romanticism to Realism in art and letters that would provide for a new way for Americans to express and re create themselves. Another adjustment they could make could be to put hot drinks into a special cup with a lid, that when tipped over does not spill and hot food could be left to cool for a few minutes before being served, meaning that it is not piping hot. As long as the parents and guardians are aware of the dangers associated with hot food and drinks, then this hazard shouldn t hold a very high likelihood. My reasoning for suggesting this is that it will reduce the likelihood of a child or an individual getting burnt if the drink falls as the lid will stop the drink from spilling. Kiss And Run Fusion Kiss and Run vs Full Fusion cell cycling at small hippocampal neurons The highly important transmission of neurotransmitter at chemical synapses was found to be within small vesicles (Katz, 1969) that fuse to the presynaptic membrane and then get recycled back into the neuron. However, the methods of fusion and recycling are still being debated today, particularly at the locality of small hippocampal neurons which typically contain around 30 functional vesicles (A. M. Aravanis1, n.d.). The full collapse fusion method (reese, n.d.) is widely accepted and describes the full collapse of the vesicle membrane into the plasma membrane and the clathrin mediated endocytosis that follows. However the existence and importance of the Kiss and Run method ... In this study they use a pH sensor of exocytosis and endocytosis, a fluorescent protein that reports fusion and retrieval of vesicles synaptophluorin. developed by meisenbock and colleagues. This provides a fluoresces signal when the lumen of the vesicle is exposed to the external medium. The results showed firstly that whatever the fate of the vesicle, the quantal size for retrieval remains unchanged. They suggest that there are three modes of vesicle retrieval from their findings; firstly, the fast kiss and run method with a selective fusion pore, a slow (8 21 s) compensatory mode; and a stranded mode of recycling, in which a vesicle is left on the cell surface until a nerve impulse triggers its retrieval. We have also observed that, in response to a nerve impulse, synapses with low release probability primarily use the kiss and run mode, whereas high release probability terminals predominantly use the compensatory mode of vesicle retrieval. Further work with the use of synaptophlourin emerged with the combining of pH sensitive GFP (MEISENBOCK, n.d.)to synaptophysin a synaptic vesicle protein to from syPhy (lagnado, n.d.) however, during these experiments, they found only one ... Jesus refuses, reminding Satan that the Scriptures say do not tempt the Lord your God. The Inquisitor claims that even if man were to have earthly bread in abundance, without a stable conception of the object of life, man would not continue to live, and any who would lead men must captivate their consciences. Only three powers can do this, says the Inquisitor: miracle, mystery, and authority. In the first temptation, Jesus rejected the first power, and now is rejecting the second. The Inquisitor says, And I ask Thee again... couldst Thou believe for a moment that men, too, could face such a temptation? Once again, Jesus is refusing to captivate the souls of men by force. • 36. The American Dream In The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald The American Dream has enticed generations of people of varying socioeconomic statuses to seek new lives in a budding nation. While there are innumerable definitions of this dream, the conventional perspective centers around how accumulating material wealth engenders happiness, the falsity of which is explored in F. Scott Fitzgerald s 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby. Though Fitzgerald critiques this viewpoint, he fails to present an alternative. Much like Fitzgerald, I believe that a capitalist view of the American Dream produces misery, whereas cultivating a conscience and engaging one s passions elicits the opposite, something that all Americans should endeavor to find. Central to every interpretation of the American Dream is joy, predominantly believed to stem from accumulating wealth and possessions, however, the capitalistic nature of our society precludes the majority of people from achieving this. Immigrants have journeyed here for hundreds of years with the hope of finding such riches only to find that the disenfranchised remain as such upon arrival. Thus, American Dream was built on the false pretenses that wealth is distributed relatively equally instead of the reality that 99% of the nation s wealth belongs to .1% of the population. This makes garnering vast wealth as Jay Gatsby did nearly impossible, hindering the jubilation of everyone that made theirs contingent on such an occurrence.
