Fields Assignment: Particle Accelerators
Physics

What is a particle accelerator?
A particle accelerator is a machine that is capable of accelerating particles to very high speeds. The
types of particles that are accelerated are protons, electrons and atomic nuclei. Particle accelerates
have a Particle Source which is where the particle is before it launched. It also has a Beam Pipe which
is where the particles travel around the machine. There are also electric fields, electromagnets,
detectors and targets. (Dotson, 2015) The electric fields are spaced out and create radio waves which
accelerate particles. The electromagnets help steer and focus the beam of particles when they travel
through the beam tube. (Dotson, 2015) The detectors and targets help record data of the particles
speed and behavior at high speeds.
Are there different types currently in use?
There are many designs of particle accelerators. Listed below are the type designs for a particle
accelerator: (Holzman, 2010)
· Electrostatic Accelerators
· Oscillating Field o The Linear Accelerator o The Cyclotron o The Synchrotron
There are over 30,000 accelerators around the world, and they use the designs above. (Witman, 2015)
Electrostatic Accelerators were the first particle accelerators ever made. These designs use circle paths
to accelerate the particles expect the linear accelerator. The circle paths are used because they will take

War Memorial History
From the outset parish war memorial committees sent out requests to members of the public to
nominate names for inclusion on the memorials. They received these in writing from the next of kin,
from descendants and, in some cases, from an informed member of the public (either privately or on
behalf of an organisation). They accepted evidence through word of mouth, from newspaper articles,
church announcements and through door to door enquiries. Some committees decided that only those
born in a town or village would be commemorated; some opted for birth and/or residence at time of
death, whilst others allowed the names of anyone who had lived in the village at any time. Some, as in
the case of Misterton, saw the addition of a female whose nursing ... Show more content on

There were those who described it as evidence of a deplorable lack of interest by the general public in
this worthy object. When it was put on the agenda for the Parish Council to discuss, the meeting had
to be cancelled owing to the schoolroom having no heat and the likelihood of there being no gas. For a
time it looked as though there would be no resolution. Many felt this would leave Epworth as a town
without a site and cause considerable embarrassment, particularly as places such as Belton, Finningley
and Haxey were well advanced with their plans for a memorial. Mr. Arthur Maw said that when he
had spoken to people about a memorial, many believed that, since the Parish Church and the
Nonconformist Churches were erecting memorial tablets in their respective places of worship, they
felt there was no need for a public memorial. When the decision to continue was taken there were
issues over what style the memorial would take. For those who favoured a stone monument their
difficulty lay in finding a suitable site. Both the Market Place and the frontage of Barnes and Breeze
shop were considered but discounted. The idea of buying the Imperial Hall and turning into a
recreation and meeting place for the town was rejected. Upgrading the town s water supply came up
for consideration but was quickly dismissed. A deputation from the men who had returned

Nature Of Human
the Nature of Human Being
As the most giant super power in the world, almost everything happened in the United States has some
kinds of influence in the world. The American Revolution is definitely one of the most important
historical event in the history of the United States because its foundation of the idea of this country.
But behind the bright side of the main stream idea of the public, there are also dark sides in the
Revolution such as the bloody battle and the wealth growing of the minor elite. In this paper, I am not
going to admire the great achievement of the American Revolution nor criticize the bloody and dirty
trades behind the Revolution. I am here to explain that just like or other major events of human
history, Everything happened during and after the American Revolution is just a nature of human
being.
American Revolution was bloody and cruel, just like all other great revolutions in the history.
Besides the so called ideas carrying for the revolution like liberty and democracy, the Revolution
brought a bloody battle to everyone to the people in this land during that time, not only to the enemies,
but also to the people were supposed to be innocent.
During the whole period of the American Revolution. The United States suffered 25,000 70,000 total
death, 6800 killed in the battle, 17,000 died from the cause of disease, 8,000 12,000 who died as
prisoners of war (Civil War Trust). Just during George Washington s troop s settlement in Valley

Li Shangyin (c.813 858) is a multifaceted late Tang poet, known by his courtesy name as Yishan (義

description of the scene and a story the poem narratives, may also represent an unspeakable mood.
Therefore, it still has great significance and value for posterity to read and deliberate repeatedly even
after a thousand of years. Pan Fayi (潘发义) (2001) points out some literati s opinions of this poem.
For example, the writer Jixiao Lan纪晓岚of Si Ku Quan Shu (四库全书) regards it as a work of
lament (感遇之作), and it is filled with plaint of life s countless meetings and partings. Whereas the
scholar He Zhuo何焯 thinks that it exclaims time is getting, and it is too late to make an achievement.
It can be seen from these two lines, 寓意于光阴难驻,我生行修也 . However, most of people think
that this is a love poem, also describes the classic love and monument.
相见时难别亦难 is a famous masterpiece. This poem was written when Li Shangyin was around 15
years old, and he was sent to Yuyang Mountain(玉阳山) to learn Taoism by his parents. It narrates the
bitter love between Li Shangyin and Song Huayang (宋华阳) during that period. It is a poem with a
feminine tone, expressing persistent belief and burning desire. This essay

Imagery of Blood, Light and Clothing in Macbeth by William...
Imagery of Blood, Light and Clothing in Macbeth by William Shakespeare
Imagery, the art of making images, the product of imagination (Merriam
Webster). Shakespeare uses many forms of imagery in his writing of Macbeth. Three main forms of
imagery in this play are blood, light and darkness, and clothing. Within each form of this imagery
Shakespeare incorporates symbols that the reader must understand if they are to interpret either the
passage or the play as a whole. In Macbeth blood symbolizes many things. We have all known blood
to represent life, death, and often injury. In the play, Shakespeare uses blood to represent treason, guilt,
murder, and death. Shakespeare uses the word blood many times throughout
Macbeth. The best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such as seen on pg.124 Act I scene v when lady Macbeth asks the spirits Make thick my blood. In this
quote she wants to make herself insensitive towards the deeds that she is about to commit. Towards
the end of the play blood symbolizes guilt. This is best seen on pg. 176 Act V scene ii, when Lady
Macbeth states Out, damned spot! Out, I say! One: two: why, then tis time to do t. In this quote Lady
Macbeth is remembering the night of the murder. It is the guilt in her soul that is making hr have these
recurring nightmares. The last symbolism of blood is on pg.
185 Act II scene viii when Macduff states I have no words: my voice is in my sword, thou bloodier
villian than terms can give thee out! In this quote the imagery of blood again begins to deal with
honor. The second form of imagery Shakespeare uses is light and darkness. In the play
Macbeth Shakespeare uses the witches, the guilt in Macbeth s soul, and the darkness of the night to
establish the atmosphere. The immoral scenes of the play seem to take place at night. For instance, the
vision of the dagger, the murder of Duncan, the murder of
Banquo, and Lady Macbeth s sleep walking. In the opening scene the witches set the mood of the play.
A great storm of thunder and lightning is taking place one of the witches ask When shall we meet
again? One replies That will be ere set of sun. This is foreshadowing the evil that takes place in the
night. Another example of

Kim Souzzi Religion Analysis
Kim Souzzi was 23 when she succumbed glioblastoma, a terminal brain cancer that is incurable;
however, her legacy lives on through what in the past was just science fiction. Kim s brain is
cryogenically frozen in the hopes that it one day can be mapped and her conscious be uploaded to a
computer. Experts in the field of neuroscience disagree whether or not the process is possible as time
and technology are potent variables. Despite being riddled with moral, fundamental, and scientific
questions Kim raised funding via her online blog and Reddit. There were mixed comments on Kim s
blog, many supportive of her endeavor and many on the contrary. Ideals clash when it comes to human
mortality. For centuries religion and science are in constant conflict, ... Show more content on

Kim s passion was neuroscience and studying the brain and it is only appropriate that she sought a
higher cause following her death. Kim was denied a legacy dying so young so she hopes for a second
chance with the advance of technology. It is therefore no question of science, religion, or morals;
rather it is that her dying wishes right or wrong. We all have our own rituals surrounding death.
Whether it is burial, cremation, cast into the ocean, or even used to further science, there is a purpose
in the final rite. Kim s story is a touching one because like she states in the video on New York Times,
she could just be buried and nothing more would come from that. Furthermore, she decides to
continue sponsoring her passions even after death. No matter what paradigm or perspective one takes,
Kim pursued what she truly loved in the hope that one day she will be a part of something greater than
herself. Technology and science are not ready for the ambitions of Kim; however, time is the
dependent factor in which science fiction will become science reality. I support her decision and what
she is doing, she follows her ambitions and although peculiar and eccentric, they are however her final
wishes and the opinions of the masses are irrelevant. The question of whether or not the computer
with Kim s conscious is her or not, because that is a clash of science and philosophy. People are afraid
of what they do not know. Virtual Mortality may be the key to preserving ideas of great minds,
musicians, philosophers, inventors and innovators. Death will not be overcome by the prospect of the
digital conscious rather life will continue. What was once history will continue to the future. Kim s
endeavor represents progress and if possible and successful will change the way death is

Whaling In Japan Research Paper
Japan is one of the few countries that support the practice whaling. For decades, the country has
continued to maintain its right to whale and shown aggressively lobbying with the International
Whaling Commission (IWC) for reconsideration of commercial whaling. Commercial whaling is a
practice that involves the hunting and killing whales for their oil meat, or whalebone. With their pro
stance on whaling, Japan has faced strong international criticism especially from environmentalists
and Western governments, which view Japan as obstructing international efforts to protect these
mammals. This paper will argue that Japan should not be forced to remove the practice of commercial
whaling in order to satisfy the international views. This is because ... Show more content on

Even with the court ruled decision by the IWC, the opponents felt that it was not as decisive as they
would have hoped for. The IWC has defended most of Japan s whaling insisting to those that oppose
that the research is solely for research implying that the majority of whales killed by Japan are taken
in an internationally designated haven, which Japan has chosen to ignore (MacKenzie). The idea of
the Whale Wars is likely to continue by animal rights activist and anti whaling governments. The
United Nation s International Court of Justice (ICJ) later ruled that Japan s scientific research program
JARPA II was not what it was suppose to be. This ruling has also barred Japan from whaling in the
Antarctic (MacKenzie). This ruling momentarily stopped Japan vessels from whaling. In June of
2014, the Prime Minister in Japan Shinzo Abe, showed defiance of the International Courts ruling as
he was quoted in say to aim for resumption of commercial whaling by conducting whaling research in
order to obtain scientific date indispensable for the management of whale, which is essentially saying
Japan will continue to kill whales until it is proven that it is okay to kill whales (Hays). The statements
made by the Prime Minister were viewed as disappointment. Greenpeace

Ghost In The Woman Warrior By Maxine Hong Kingston
A ghost is a disembodied soul, according to the definition found within Merriam Webster s dictionary.
However, in the novel The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston, the term ghost adopts a
meaning that holds a much greater depth. All throughout the text, the word ghost reoccurs in a
metaphorical sense that binds together the overlying theme of culture disconnect between the
generations of the Chinese Americans. Kingston equips figurative usage of ghosts in order to establish
a setting in which there is an evident cultural gap between those described as ghosts, and those who
live and breathe in a traditional Chinese sense. At the very start of the novel, Kingston introduces
ghost in a scene where villagers are raiding the family home of the No Name Woman, exclaiming Pig.
Ghost. Pig, as they do so, (5). By declaring that the aunt who committed an unspeakable crime to be a
ghost allows readers to grasp an initial sense of what ghost truly means. A ghost is an outcast, one who
does not abide by the values deemed just by the majority. Further developing this idea, the nameless
aunt s own family curses her by saying, Ghost! Dead ghost! Ghost! You ve never been born, (14).
Both her village and her very own family, the folks whom she holds dearest to her heart, are able to
completely deny her existence and shun her from their realities. Within the first chapter of the novel,
the idea of a ghost is introduced as a figure that has a significant distance from the

The Experiment By Mary Ainsworth
Abstract
This report discusses and evaluates the experiment conducted by Mary Ainsworth (1970) on several
types of attachments one year olds form and can form with their parents, specifically mothers. It
discusses how these attachments are formed and further explains the function of the attachments for
future development. Supported ideas are included to support agreement with Ainsworth s theories.
Suggested interventions to help children develop healthy attachments concludes the report.
Attachment Issues in Development: An Evaluation of the Strange Situation Many people assume that
infants are naturally attached to their mothers or both parents. This notion is not entirely true.

There has been much research on attachment between parent/caregiver and child, but the most
recognizable of this research is mostly credited to Mary Ainsworth s (1970) study of one year olds and
their mothers in the Strange Situation . The words attachment and bonding are often used
synonymously to describe the relationship between parent and child. According to scientists, these
terms are distinctive by definition. Attachment is the child s way of using the parent/primary caregiver
as security, safety and source of comfort from which to explore (Waters Cummings, 2000). Bonding is
the formation of a mutual emotional and psychological closeness between a child and the
parent(s)/primary caregiver; mostly in the interest of the parent. Attachment theory is of importance
when related to parenting for children. Ainsworth describes three types of attachments: secure,
insecure avoidant and insecure resistant. A fourth type was later added to describe disorganized
attachment. A review of the Strange Situation procedure and interventions to help children develop
healthy attachments to primary caregivers is described in this report.
The Strange Situation The Strange Situation procedure was conducted with infants ranging from 12 to
18 months old and 56 middle class, Caucasian American families. The purpose of the study was to
determine various styles of attachments and the nature of these attachments when

Summary Of Conflict In Dostoevsky s Cuckoolsky
Part II: Close Reading/ Literary Term Analysis
1st Entry: Part I (Conflict)
Conflict: Conflict is a struggle that happens between two opposing forces. There are two main types of
conflict, internal and external. Internal conflict is the struggle between man and himself. External
struggles include man versus man, man versus nature and man versus society.
Example: I wonder what people are most afraid of? I babble too much... maybe I babble because I don
t do anything. I ve learned to babble over this past month, lying in a corner, thinking about...
Cuckooland. Why on earth am I going now? Am I really capable of that? (4).
Function: In the first few pages of the novel, the author establishes the mental state that Raskolnikov
is in and his constant self doubt that he faces. By using internal conflict, Dostoevsky can show the
way Raskolnikov is constantly questioning himself, his preparation for his crime and how he might
react in the aftermath of committing his crime. In the opening paragraphs of Crime and Punishment,
readers can see Raskolnikov questioning himself and going back and forth about every thought that
enters his mind. These thoughts include what people are afraid of, whether he babbles too much, why
he babbles and when and why he is going to Cuckooland. By vividly describing the internal conflict
that Raskolnikov is facing, readers are able to establish a sense of how Raskolnikov handles situations
and his thought process. By establishing this now, Dostoevsky gets

Dreams In The Priest s Tale
Medieval people were deeply interested in dreams and visions. Dreams were an essential part of daily
life, and people speculated about what they dreamed about. They took from bible stories to speculate
what those dreams were about. Because of this, the medieval Dream Vision flowered from the period,
as people generally accepted that dreams could convey wisdom and knowledge to the reader. The Nun
s Priest Tale by Chaucer is a prime example of this genre, as it reinforces the importance the dreams
and how ignoring the dreams could have dire results.
The importance of some people s dreams caused them to change their former ways of life, often
helping them in the long run. In 1149 an Irish Knight goes to Cork, and after a large meal, collapsed ...

U.s. Army National Guard
Given constrained funding and the requirements of short term national military objectives and longer
term operations, the Army should balance the Total Force as follows: first, decrease the Active
Component deployments and increase the Reserve Component, specifically the National Guard.
Second, assign National Guard units to specific regions and/or missions so that their training can be
focused on these conflicts. And third, increase the use of National Guard units to reduce active
component use particularly for low intensity conflict and short term missions.
Background:
Throughout the course of the United States, the Army National Guard (and to some extent, the United
States Army Reserve) has been a bedrock of support to both the President, Congress, and the
Governors of the fifty four states and territories. During times of national emergency, civil upheaval,
natural disasters, and most recently, during times of war, the National Guard has been counted on to
fill capability gaps that exist in the Active Components ranks. In addition, the National Guard had the
additional mission of being at the call of the Governors should they choose to utilize that resource, a
claim the Active Component cannot make (strictly by law). As such, the National Guard should
continue to be utilized as both a resource for governors to use during times of crisis and, perhaps more
importantly, should continue to be used, funded, and trained as an operational reserve as well. During

Student s Performance as Cause Effect Phenomena: A Multilevel Approach
Introduction:
Education plays a vital role in the human and country development at all stages. There are key
determinants that affect the education level which ultimately translate into human and country s
development. Quality education ensures the achievement of knowledge and required skills that enable
individuals to enhance the productivity and improve their living standard and access to basic needs.
This increase in productivity further translate towards new sources of earning which also further
enhances the economic growth of a country (Saxton, 2000). Student performance is a key component
of quality education that result in better outputs in the long run. Student intellectual performance
measurement has received substantial consideration in previous research literature, it is a challenging
aspects of academic literature. Student performance are affected by many factors including social,
mental, economic, environmental and personal factors. These factors strongly influence on the student
intellectual performance, but these factors vary from person to person and country to country.

Dystopian Society In Divergent
Introduction A film as popular culture becomes something that is often criticized by the Cultural
Studies. A film can show many aspects of cultures because the producer tries to deliver his/her
imagination or reality on it. However, it is not rare when a writer or producer deliver something about
prediction or assumption if some people use a certain ideology to a society. This kind of prediction
based on imagination can be clearly seen on the adaptation film, Divergent. A film released in 2014
shows how dystopian society is built because of the ideology that is chosen by certain people and then
this ideology influences other people. This dystopian society is located in Chicago, that in real life is a
city in United States. However, the writer created this city becomes a city that is different from the
reality, so the writer, Veronica Roth, can express her imagination about if a war can result a dystopian
society . As we know that a war often makes a nation become in a depression state. Even so, those
nations usually can get up from this depression state and then it is back to normal state. Veronica Roth

Research Paper On Violence In Sports
Violence is defined as the use of excessive physical force, which causes or has obvious potential to
cause harm or destruction to an individual. Violence in sports comes in many forms, and divides into
social and cultural factors related to the sport ethic, gender ideology, the dynamics of social class and
race, and the tactics used in sports. Violence in sports has gone too far because sports violence has
become so severe in sports, that players are injured each years. However, in sports some violence has
become entertaining for the fans and fans would begin their own violence around with other fans that
support opposing teams to win. The violence in sports can cause severe casualties from collisions to
concussions that may result in long term mental or physical damage.
There are many casualties of violence and collisions/concussions in professional sports. The first
common type of violence is body contact. The brutal body contact includes physical practices
common in certain sports and accepted by athletes as part of sport participation. Examples of brutal
body contacts in sports are collisions, hits, tackles, blocks, body checks, and other forms of physical
contact that can produce injuries. In the NHL a hockey player on ... Show more content on

Manuel Puig
The Kiss of The Spider Woman by Manuel Puig is centered on gender.
The notions of gender are Masculinity, and Femininity. They are argued by Manuel Puig as he
reverses the traditional ideas of male and female using Valentin and Molina, in order argue against the
idea that women were weak and men were strong. With the use of Valentin, a protester who carries all
masculine traits used in order to symbolize the traditional societal ideology of manhood and
masculinity. Also, he creates Molina, a homosexual put in prison for corrupting minors, in order to
portray the traditional female.
However, throughout the novel Puig deconstructs these roles in order to show the true persona of both
Valentin and Molina.

That being said, he has a feministic view of society. Moreover he views his relationship with Valentin
rather well as he considers himself to be the submissive female that transforms into the manipulator,
that tricks Valentin into eating the prison food, so that he can intentionally take care of him. However
Puig is making the reader realize that Molina is enduring an internal struggle. The struggle is that
Molina is stuck between telling the Warden the information that he is trying to get from Valentin, yet
insisting that Valentin tell him nothing of his political life. These combinations create the angst within
the character and the ultimate suspense of the piece as a whole. Perhaps both Valentin and Molina are
seeking to escape by explaining the movies they recall. The movies that Molina tells Valentin reveals
so much about Molina as he tends to cry each time he goes into the romantic part of the documentaries
because Molina lacks love in his life as he is trapped within himself. However when he offers his
body, so that is he free from this entrapment is when he makes love with Valentin. This shows us how
similar Molina s persona is to that of a woman. The similar trends between Molina and a woman is
best reflected when he talks about the love story of Leni. Leni betrays her own country because she
lacks love from a man. Leni turns into a powerful woman when she backstabs the soldier that was
once on her side.

mean that, even though the despot abruptly seized power without the explicit consent of the citizens,
which would then result in a loss of autonomy and negative liberty, the authority is governing the
society justly, so a small amount of their rights must be sacrificed for a better society. I have three
reasons for asserting the legitimate authority of the despot; first, the tacit and hypothetical consent
theories; second, instrumentalism; and third, positive liberty. As mentioned above, my thesis stating
the legitimacy of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taking this into consideration, the scenario in which an enlightened despot seized power in the UK
and governed it justly, the despot would only have legitimate authority if they have the consent of the
subjects. As obviously stated, the despot governs justly; therefore the society is not tyrannical and
unjust, so there is no coercion and force, and thus the despot would receive the tacit and hypothetical
consent from its subjects. First, the despot would receive the tacit consent from the subjects because,
in the political realm, men have tacitly consented to obey a governments simply by remaining within
its territory (Pitkin1965, p. 995), and thus, because the society is governed justly, the subjects have the
ability to leave whenever they want, so those who remain in the territory give their tacit consent and
obey the government, consequently making the authority legitimate. As you can see, tacit consent
theory is considered the real battle ground for consent theory (Simmons 1976, p. 278), because the
subject can change their mind at anytime. In a similar sense, the authority is legitimate with the
hypothetical consent theory because, as mentioned above, the hypothetical consent theory claims that,
if the authority governs in a way that could be in principle agreed upon by the subjects, then it is
legitimate as long as a government rules in the best interest of it s subjects, which holds true for this
despot because he governs justly, so he s

Coraline By Neil Gaiman Analysis
Gothic Horror is a style of literature that is defined by elements of fear, horror, death and gloom, not to
mention romantic elements like nature, individuality and very high emotion. It can also include
supernatural themes. This style usually appeals more to an older audience, rather than children. It can
appeal more to this audience because gothic horror can be used to explore serious themes and ideas,
and older audiences can fully appreciate that. An older audience is also more likely to enjoy the
feeling of fear gothic horror usually gives. A perfect example of a gothic horror text is Coraline ,
originally by Neil Gaiman. Coraline follows the story of a teenage girl (named Coraline), who has just
moved into a new house. Bored and tired of her family, Coraline visits an alternate universe where
everything is perfect, or so it seems. Coraline has many aspects of Gothic Horror, such as fear, horror,
gloom, individuality and high emotion. It fits the gothic horror genre perfectly, with immense horror
themes, grotesque characters and a general sense of eeriness and creepiness. ... Show more content on

Coraline wishes she could have a new, perfect family, and her wish comes true, just not in the way you

fuelled by her parents never making time for her, and feeling alone, which incorporates the gothic

This business plan consists of a narrative and several financial spreadsheets. The narrative template is
the body of the business plan. It contains more than 150 questions divided into several sections. Work

The Mystery Of The False Confession In Arthur Miller s The...
The Mystery of the False Confession Noah White Ms. Maney American Literature 12/10/2017 In post
9/11 America, one of the most debated topics is the use of torture and unreliable interrogation
techniques to extract information from suspects. Said use of torture is considered not only heinous but
somewhat notorious for producing unreliable and false confessions. In Arthur Miller s The Crucible, a
spotlight is shined on this topic by the situation of the Salem Witch Trials in which so called witches
are forced to confess to their non existent offenses by threat of hanging. Considering these points, the
question must be asked; why are false confessions so prevalent and why do they occur? One of the
earliest recorded instances of a false confessions was the confession of Robert Hubert in 1666 after the
Great London Fire. The London fire destroyed thousands of houses, businesses, 87 churches, and
killed tens of thousands of people. And the man who confessed to starting it? A disabled man in a
wheelchair who wasn t even in London on the day that it started. It is speculated that Robert Hubert,
after slight suspicion on behalf of the king, was interrogated or even tortured for a confession.
According to Rob Jones of History of Forensic Psychology, Despite the many obvious flaws and
impossibilities in Hubert s confession, a scapegoat was needed (Jones 1). Only around the 1980 s did
psychologists and other social scientists begin to truly investigate the phenomena of the false

Essay on Salvador Dali Museum
Word Count: 1283 Salvador Dali Museum The Salvador Dali museum was founded by Dali s leading
collectors, Reynolds and Eleanor Morse. They were not only friends of Dali but also private collectors
of his work. The couple stored the collection in their home for a long period of time, the even agreed
to loan two hundred pieces to a New York Dali retrospective before finally deciding to give the
collection a permanent home. Dali encouraged the couple to build a museum in New York, although
they thought this was a wonderful idea they still kept searching. One of their goals for the collection
was to preserve the collections historical integrity. When word reached St. Petersburg, attorney, James

It includes the Impressionist and Cubist styles of his early period, abstract work from his transition to
Surrealism, and covers the religious and scientific themes of his classic period. Salvador Dali was
born into a middle class family on May 11th 1904 in Figures, Spain. During his lifetime, he was an
eccentric painter, writer, sculptor and experimental film maker. In Dali s early years of painting he
experimented at first with landscapes, most of which were of his home in Figueres, Spain. Dali also
made paintings of the surrounding area of his family s summer home, in the seaside town of
Cadaques. Dali s transitional period was between 1927 and 1929, these were years of experimentation.
In this period gravel, rocks, cork, and other materials can be noted on his canvases. This was more
abstract period then others, at this time in Dali s life he had just been kicked out of the art school he
had been attending . As Dali moved into his Surrealist years he became more interested in psychology
and exploring his own fears and fantasies. Dali s Surrealist period last from 1929 1940, in which years
he joined the Surrealist Movement, and shortly after became a leader in this movement. In order to
bring images from his subconscious mind , Dali began to use a method to find inspiration for his art;
he would induce hallucinatory states in himself. As his work matured, and his fame grew

The And Substance Abuse Treatment
Based on researching treatment modalities in Grand Rapids, MI, it was found that very few
organization (The YWCA) has programs that are specifically designed for adult survivors of
CSA with dual diagnosis of PTSD associated with CSA. The YWCA of West Central Michigan offers
services and online programs for women and girls who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual
assault, and childhood sexual abuse. They also offer 24 hour confidential crisis lines for domestic
violence and sexual assault (YWCA, 2016). There are no programs in the
Grand Rapids area that offers services for men with histories of CSA, although Pine Rest does offer
some treatment for trauma and substance abuse, they do not offer both types of treatment at the same
time or in the same building. The YWCA does not provide services for substance abuse issues and
substance abuse treatment centers are not very well equipt to handle underlying issues such as PTSD
and trauma associated with CSA, although research demonstrates a connection between CSA and
substance abuse. I have listed all trauma based counseling centers and residential SA treatment
facilities in the Kent County in the introduction. This study is being conducted in order to educate
therapists and psychiatrists employed in substance abuse treatment in Kent County facilities on new
treatment modalities that can be incorporated into existing programs in order to help individuals with
both SA disorders as well as trauma associated with

Analysis Of The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Superheroes have been scrutinized for several for methods dealing with criminals and how they react
in their everyday lives. Inner personal problems of a hero have a way to change the meaning of their
status and affect the effectiveness of a hero s influence and philosophical meaning. This is usually
forced into comic books and movies to give a character an air of grit in their media. Sometimes this
creates a beautiful masterpiece of story and introduces depth to the character, but it can also have a
detrimental to the image of the character. Taking a darker tone with a superhero type character is
ultimately a bad idea in the long run because it s is hard to create a mature story with most characters
without deviating from what the fans believe in the character and how they are seen by others causing
problems for the parent company, giving characters a darker tone can destroy a classic character s
easily recognizable characteristics also, the move can sink a company whose reputation was ruined by
the decision. Having a fantastical ability is always a hindrance when writing a serious or dark story
because there is the need to ground the story in realism and believability. Darker superhero stories can
t handle superpowers well within the story telling and writing. Most darker stories who have a
character with extremely unusual superpowers tend to have either a convoluted plots or just destroys
the meaning of the character to the point where people hate the new representation.

The Pros And Cons Of Drunk Driving
Cops rush to the scene of a tragic accident, where two cars are crumpled on the road. One minivan,
carrying a group of teenagers going home, laid upside down in a ditch. The other vehicle, a truck
driven by a drunk man, sat with a flattened front end in the middle of the highway. The drunk driver
came out of the wreck virtually unscathed compared to the teenagers. Two teenagers were horribly
injured, while the third teen was killed. This is an example of what can happen when a driver gets
behind the wheel while intoxicated. Innocent lives could be lost and many people can be injured by
irresponsible drivers. According to the article Drunk Driving, more than ten thousand fatalities are
caused by impaired driving every year. Also, 1.4 million drivers were arrested for driving under the
influence of alcohol and drugs ( Drunk Driving ). Even though many efforts, such as increase in police
patrol and slightly higher fines, drunk driving is still a major problem in the United States. Many
people have proposed solutions to the drinking and driving problem. These solutions include,
educating people to know the risks of drunk driving, and other people think that there should less laws
on drunk driving, or legalize it all together. A great solution that could deter people from drinking and
driving, is to make fines higher than they already are and have longer jail sentences for each DUI a
person commits. This solution would keep people from driving under the influence(DUI) because

  • 2. Assignment On Particle Accelerators SPH4U0 Fields Assignment: Particle Accelerators Physics Nithash Rajendram 12/1/2017 What is a particle accelerator? A particle accelerator is a machine that is capable of accelerating particles to very high speeds. The types of particles that are accelerated are protons, electrons and atomic nuclei. Particle accelerates have a Particle Source which is where the particle is before it launched. It also has a Beam Pipe which is where the particles travel around the machine. There are also electric fields, electromagnets, detectors and targets. (Dotson, 2015) The electric fields are spaced out and create radio waves which accelerate particles. The electromagnets help steer and focus the beam of particles when they travel through the beam tube. (Dotson, 2015) The detectors and targets help record data of the particles speed and behavior at high speeds. Are there different types currently in use? There are many designs of particle accelerators. Listed below are the type designs for a particle accelerator: (Holzman, 2010) · Electrostatic Accelerators · Oscillating Field o The Linear Accelerator o The Cyclotron o The Synchrotron There are over 30,000 accelerators around the world, and they use the designs above. • 3. War Memorial History From the outset parish war memorial committees sent out requests to members of the public to nominate names for inclusion on the memorials. They received these in writing from the next of kin, from descendants and, in some cases, from an informed member of the public (either privately or on behalf of an organisation). They accepted evidence through word of mouth, from newspaper articles, church announcements and through door to door enquiries. Some committees decided that only those born in a town or village would be commemorated; some opted for birth and/or residence at time of death, whilst others allowed the names of anyone who had lived in the village at any time. Some, as in the case of Misterton, saw the addition of a female whose nursing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were those who described it as evidence of a deplorable lack of interest by the general public in this worthy object. When it was put on the agenda for the Parish Council to discuss, the meeting had to be cancelled owing to the schoolroom having no heat and the likelihood of there being no gas. For a time it looked as though there would be no resolution. Many felt this would leave Epworth as a town without a site and cause considerable embarrassment, particularly as places such as Belton, Finningley and Haxey were well advanced with their plans for a memorial. Mr. Arthur Maw said that when he had spoken to people about a memorial, many believed that, since the Parish Church and the Nonconformist Churches were erecting memorial tablets in their respective places of worship, they felt there was no need for a public memorial. When the decision to continue was taken there were issues over what style the memorial would take. For those who favoured a stone monument their difficulty lay in finding a suitable site. Both the Market Place and the frontage of Barnes and Breeze shop were considered but discounted. The idea of buying the Imperial Hall and turning into a recreation and meeting place for the town was rejected. Upgrading the town s water supply came up for consideration but was quickly dismissed. Imagery of Blood, Light and Clothing in Macbeth by William Shakespeare Imagery, the art of making images, the product of imagination (Merriam Webster). Shakespeare uses many forms of imagery in his writing of Macbeth. Three main forms of imagery in this play are blood, light and darkness, and clothing. Within each form of this imagery Shakespeare incorporates symbols that the reader must understand if they are to interpret either the passage or the play as a whole. Whether it is burial, cremation, cast into the ocean, or even used to further science, there is a purpose in the final rite. Kim s story is a touching one because like she states in the video on New York Times, she could just be buried and nothing more would come from that. Furthermore, she decides to continue sponsoring her passions even after death. No matter what paradigm or perspective one takes, Kim pursued what she truly loved in the hope that one day she will be a part of something greater than herself. • 11. Ghost In The Woman Warrior By Maxine Hong Kingston A ghost is a disembodied soul, according to the definition found within Merriam Webster s dictionary. However, in the novel The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston, the term ghost adopts a meaning that holds a much greater depth. All throughout the text, the word ghost reoccurs in a metaphorical sense that binds together the overlying theme of culture disconnect between the generations of the Chinese Americans. Kingston equips figurative usage of ghosts in order to establish a setting in which there is an evident cultural gap between those described as ghosts, and those who live and breathe in a traditional Chinese sense. At the very start of the novel, Kingston introduces ghost in a scene where villagers are raiding the family home of the No Name Woman, exclaiming Pig. Ghost. Pig, as they do so, (5). By declaring that the aunt who committed an unspeakable crime to be a ghost allows readers to grasp an initial sense of what ghost truly means. A ghost is an outcast, one who does not abide by the values deemed just by the majority. Further developing this idea, the nameless aunt s own family curses her by saying, Ghost! Dead ghost! Ghost! You ve never been born, (14). Both her village and her very own family, the folks whom she holds dearest to her heart, are able to completely deny her existence and shun her from their realities. There has been much research on attachment between parent/caregiver and child, but the most recognizable of this research is mostly credited to Mary Ainsworth s (1970) study of one year olds and their mothers in the Strange Situation . The words attachment and bonding are often used synonymously to describe the relationship between parent and child. According to scientists, these terms are distinctive by definition. Attachment is the child s way of using the parent/primary caregiver as security, safety and source of comfort from which to explore (Waters Cummings, 2000). Bonding is the formation of a mutual emotional and psychological closeness between a child and the parent(s)/primary caregiver; mostly in the interest of the parent. Attachment theory is of importance when related to parenting for children. Ainsworth describes three types of attachments: secure, insecure avoidant and insecure resistant. A fourth type was later added to describe disorganized attachment. Summary Of Conflict In Dostoevsky s Cuckoolsky Part II: Close Reading/ Literary Term Analysis 1st Entry: Part I (Conflict) Conflict: Conflict is a struggle that happens between two opposing forces. There are two main types of conflict, internal and external. Internal conflict is the struggle between man and himself. External struggles include man versus man, man versus nature and man versus society. Example: I wonder what people are most afraid of? I babble too much... maybe I babble because I don t do anything. I ve learned to babble over this past month, lying in a corner, thinking about... Cuckooland. Why on earth am I going now? Am I really capable of that? (4). Function: In the first few pages of the novel, the author establishes the mental state that Raskolnikov is in and his constant self doubt that he faces. By using internal conflict, Dostoevsky can show the way Raskolnikov is constantly questioning himself, his preparation for his crime and how he might react in the aftermath of committing his crime. In the opening paragraphs of Crime and Punishment, readers can see Raskolnikov questioning himself and going back and forth about every thought that enters his mind. These thoughts include what people are afraid of, whether he babbles too much, why he babbles and when and why he is going to Cuckooland. By vividly describing the internal conflict that Raskolnikov is facing, readers are able to establish a sense of how Raskolnikov handles situations and his thought process. Taking this into consideration, the scenario in which an enlightened despot seized power in the UK and governed it justly, the despot would only have legitimate authority if they have the consent of the subjects. As obviously stated, the despot governs justly; therefore the society is not tyrannical and unjust, so there is no coercion and force, and thus the despot would receive the tacit and hypothetical consent from its subjects. First, the despot would receive the tacit consent from the subjects because, in the political realm, men have tacitly consented to obey a governments simply by remaining within its territory (Pitkin1965, p. 995), and thus, because the society is governed justly, the subjects have the ability to leave whenever they want, so those who remain in the territory give their tacit consent and obey the government, consequently making the authority legitimate. As you can see, tacit consent theory is considered the real battle ground for consent theory (Simmons 1976, p. 278), because the subject can change their mind at anytime. In a similar sense, the authority is legitimate with the hypothetical consent theory because, as mentioned above, the hypothetical consent theory claims that, if the authority governs in a way that could be in principle agreed upon by the subjects, then it is legitimate as long as a government rules in the best interest of it s subjects, which holds true for this despot because he governs justly, so he s ... Coraline By Neil Gaiman Analysis Gothic Horror is a style of literature that is defined by elements of fear, horror, death and gloom, not to mention romantic elements like nature, individuality and very high emotion. The Mystery of the False Confession Noah White Ms. Maney American Literature 12/10/2017 In post 9/11 America, one of the most debated topics is the use of torture and unreliable interrogation techniques to extract information from suspects. Said use of torture is considered not only heinous but somewhat notorious for producing unreliable and false confessions. In Arthur Miller s The Crucible, a spotlight is shined on this topic by the situation of the Salem Witch Trials in which so called witches are forced to confess to their non existent offenses by threat of hanging. Considering these points, the question must be asked; why are false confessions so prevalent and why do they occur? One of the earliest recorded instances of a false confessions was the confession of Robert Hubert in 1666 after the Great London Fire. The London fire destroyed thousands of houses, businesses, 87 churches, and killed tens of thousands of people. And the man who confessed to starting it? A disabled man in a wheelchair who wasn t even in London on the day that it started. It is speculated that Robert Hubert, after slight suspicion on behalf of the king, was interrogated or even tortured for a confession. According to Rob Jones of History of Forensic Psychology, Despite the many obvious flaws and impossibilities in Hubert s confession, a scapegoat was needed (Jones 1). Only around the 1980 s did psychologists and other social scientists begin to truly investigate the phenomena of the false ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Dali s early years of painting he experimented at first with landscapes, most of which were of his home in Figueres, Spain. Dali also made paintings of the surrounding area of his family s summer home, in the seaside town of Cadaques. Dali s transitional period was between 1927 and 1929, these were years of experimentation. In this period gravel, rocks, cork, and other materials can be noted on his canvases. • 31. Analysis Of The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald Superheroes have been scrutinized for several for methods dealing with criminals and how they react in their everyday lives. Inner personal problems of a hero have a way to change the meaning of their status and affect the effectiveness of a hero s influence and philosophical meaning. This is usually forced into comic books and movies to give a character an air of grit in their media. Sometimes this creates a beautiful masterpiece of story and introduces depth to the character, but it can also have a detrimental to the image of the character. Taking a darker tone with a superhero type character is ultimately a bad idea in the long run because it s is hard to create a mature story with most characters without deviating from what the fans believe in the character and how they are seen by others causing problems for the parent company, giving characters a darker tone can destroy a classic character s easily recognizable characteristics also, the move can sink a company whose reputation was ruined by the decision. Having a fantastical ability is always a hindrance when writing a serious or dark story because there is the need to ground the story in realism and believability. Darker superhero stories can t handle superpowers well within the story telling and writing. Most darker stories who have a character with extremely unusual superpowers tend to have either a convoluted plots or just destroys the meaning of the character to the point where people hate the new representation. ...
