Street Art And Graffiti
Street art and graffiti has grown increasingly popular worldwide in the last few decades. This is
because street artists are given the opportunity to showcase their ideas and opinions freely, and do not
allow themselves to be limited by regulations of the law or public opinion. Street artists can express
the unpopular opinion without worry that they will be punished for it, as these artists often work
anonymously. According to Michael DeNotto from St. Mary s University of Minnesota, street art
allows the artist to reject established standards, encourage experimentation, and draw from popular
culture and advertising (Street Art and Graffiti, 1). They are given the canvas of public property such
as sidewalks and building walls to create art pieces that can be viewed by potentially anyone.
However, the fact that the audience for street art is so vast can also lead to disagreements about the
content or location of the art, and difference in opinion between the artist and the viewers.
Street art can be used as a method of openly expressing opinions on controversial matters, such as
war, laws, public figures, social issues, and more. In Street Art San Francisco by Annice Jacoby, there
are several art pieces depicting anguish and disapproval. There is a mural of a person crying over
loved ones who have past away, with the words, Those We Love, We Remember. There is another
painted across a fence, depicting the lives affected by the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Across the bottom,

Mother-Daughter Relationships In Silver Sparrow By Tayari...
In the book, Silver Sparrow, the mother daughter relationships between Dana and Gwen to Chaurisse
and Laverne show various similarities and differences. The two relationships between mother and
daughter are very noticeable throughout the novel. Tayari Jones made it easy for readers to distinguish
the types of relationships the mothers and the daughters have together. The mother daughter
relationships also have a role with James relationship with each family. To begin with, the two mother
daughter relationships have a few similarities throughout the novel. One similarity is the strong
relationship between each other. For example, Gwen would lie on Dana s bed, talk to her, and watch
her play with toys (11). In addition, Gwen sticks up for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Laverne has been with James since she was fourteen because Laverne got pregnant with James child
(165). James is usually present with their family unless he is visiting with Dana and Gwen. James is
super close with Chaurisse growing up. When Chaurisse was a baby, she had colic and James was the
one who could calm her down (220). Their relationship is close and James lets Chaurisse help him
with work. For example, Chaurisse was the attendant for Ruth Nicole Elizabeth Grant s sweet sixteen
while James drove the limo (229). As I read the novel, I noticed a lot that Laverne and Chaurisse
meant so much more to James than Dana and Gwen. For instance, when Laverne and Chaurisse found
out about Gwen and Dana, James kept fighting for Laverne until she took him back (329 333). This
goes to show that their mother daughter relationship shaped James relationship with them completely
different that Dana and

How Is Henry V A Christian King
In Henry V written by Shakespeare, Henry V is exhibited as an idle Christian king. But throughout the
play his actions and his past show him to be a typical man. Although, some of his characteristics as a
king show him to be as he was perceived. King Henry started out as a Christian king but as the play
goes on he is further seen as an average man in his speeches and his actions, but is still seen by the
audience as a man of God. Throughout the play Henry is described as a true lover of the holy church
(I.i.23), and the mirror of all Christian kings (II.Cho.6). He is played up as the ideal and seamless
Christian king. Then during the battle of Agincourt, King Henry tells his army that it is up to Gods
will (IV.iii.23), which shows that he had great faith in God. This is an incredible demonstration of
confidence and trust in God and it stresses his honorable Christian qualities. Another example of him
being a Christian king is in scene two when Henry says God quit you in His mercy which I took as
you got God s mercy and the person receiving it was lucky to have God s mercy on their side during
the event happening. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The characteristics of a Christian can be affected by a number of variables, the time period or the
denomination are two good examples of this. Although aside from these factors some of the basic
traits of a Christian are devotion, kindness, and knowledge. Be that as it may, this isn t only what King
Henry was seen as, while he was seen as a Christian he was likewise a lord, a leader. So he would
need to demonstrate the characteristics of a Christian and a king. Qualities of a king, or leader are
courage, confidence, accountability, and integrity, and these are just a few of the numerous parts to

Hemochromsatosis Research Paper
1. Hemochromsatosis A disorder in which the body absorbs more iron than needed. There are two
types primary which is genetic or secondary which is from repeated blood transfusions. It mostly
comes from the diet you consume. The excess iron is stored in the organs and leads to organ toxicity.
It can also lead to serious illnesses such as liver disease, heart problems and diabetes.
2. Most of the heme iron comes from animal proteins such as meat, poultry, seafood and fish. When
consuming meat, we are consuming hemoglobin and myoglobin contained in the flesh of the animal.
About 40% 45% of the iron in meat is heme iron. Like the article says, heme iron is easily absorbed

Sources Of Authority In Antigone
One of the most popular conflicts from classical Greek literature is the one found between Antigone
and Creon in Sophocles play Antigone. After a lethal conflict that left both of Antigone s brothers
dead, Creon ordered that Polyneices (one of Antigone s brothers who fought against Creon s state) be
denied a proper and honorable burial. Antigone opposed Creon s order; her own religious faith to the
Greek Gods demanded that she defy the decree and bury Polynices anyways. This tension between the
two characters proposes an interesting and complex dynamic between the two different sources of
authority. Both attempt argue that their source of authority and the obligation that are connected with
it is more legitimate, thus delegitimizing each other s laws. However, as stated by Molly Farneth in
her essay Gender and the Ethical Given, both of these laws come into conflict because both authorities
are unwilling to compromise and modify their strict standards. This tension is subsequently caused by
a number of factors, and Farneth goes into detail investigating each of these components, ranging from
gender roles in ancient Greek society to the role of ethics in how the law is applied. I agree with the
arguments made by Farneth and through my research, I hope to understand how these sources of
authority are viewed by and pursue this topic in a view focused on justice. There are many interesting
question that arise regarding the relationship between the authority of the law as well

Because I Could Not Stop For Death
Something Greater
For centuries, humans have struggled with this idea that haunts their existence. The notion that feels
like a far off dream that will never reach its destination; death Death, be not proud, by John Donne,
Because I could not stop for Death, and I heard a Fly buzz when I died, both written by Emily
Dickinson, explore the meaning of leaving this earth for good. The writers excellently depict the
feelings that come with the thought of no longer living. They show that dying does not end on this
earth but that something greater awaits. The poems Death, be not proud, Because I could not stop for
Death, and I heard a Fly buzz, portray the meaning of death with excellence.

eternal harmony with him. Instead of fearing the end of their lives, Christians look forward to a
wonderful life not on this earth. While, in Because I could not stop for Death, the writer fears when
death comes to take her away, but in Death, be not proud, the poet mocks death, knowing that his
future would surpass anything on this earth. God gives everyone a reason to look forward with hope,

Individuality In Daisy Miller And The Love Song Of J....
Individualism in Daisy Miller and Prufrock The two stories Daisy Miller: A Study by Henry James
and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot both express individuality. While Daisy Miller:
A Study is a realistic short story and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is a modernist poem they
convey individuality differently. While the title character in Daisy Miller embraces her individuality
by not caring what people think of her, Prufrock is insecure and questions who he is and how people
will perceive him. Both characters have detailed traits that express who they are. Daisy appears very
confident, outspoken, and has a vivacious personality. On the other hand, Prufrock starts off with an
uneasy tone and has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Daisy starts up a little argument with him. The narrator states, She opened fire upon the
mysterious charmer in Geneva (James 113). Daisy and Winterbourne had only known each other for a
few days, so Daisy had no reason to question Winterbourne s intentions. Through her argument with
Winterbourne, Daisy shows herself as being quick tempered, needy, and jealous. During the same
argument Daisy states, I don t want you to come for your aunt... I want you to come for me (James
113). Daisy s desire to be the center of Winterbourne s attention makes her jealous of another woman,
even if that woman is his relative. She wants to be the only reason Winterbourne goes to Rome. While
Daisy is an attention craver, Prufrock is the exact opposite and does not want any attention on him.
Prufrock states: And I have known the eyes already, known them all The eyes that fix you in a
formulated phrase, And when I am formulated, sprawling on a pin, When I am pinned and wriggling
on the wall, Then how should I begin (Eliot 582). Prufrock describes how he feels when all the
attention is on him. He feels as if he is on display and believes people will analyze and scrutinize
everything about him. He then questions how he should begin a conversation, believing he will be
judged. Before Prufrock goes down the stairs, he also states: With a bald spot in the middle of my hair

Working Out Hypothesis
**Title** We constructed a top down hypothesis that people exhibit an increase in their performance
level when working out in the presence of others as opposed to working out alone. To test our
hypothesis, we questioned 12 males and 12 females that are between the ages of 18 and 24, and are
frequent gym goers. We asked them whether or not they preferred to work out in front of other others,
or if they would rather work out alone, and why. We formatted this question in a standard text message
that we sent out to eight people each. In order to duplicate these findings, there are a few design
features that should be present. First, the individuals must attend a gym or workout class on a regular
basis (about 2 3 times per week). Also, on top of this, they must have ... Show more content on

The theory of sexual selection states that traits that help with mating success can be selected for, even
if they hurt chances of survival. High testosterone levels are not necessarily great for a man health
wise. However, the men with these high levels are the ones that are the highest performers in the gym.
The theory of intrasexual competition involves an individual out competing other individuals of the
same sex. This goes hand in hand with people increasing their performance level when wanting to
outperform others in the gym. By looking like the strongest man, you can attract more high quality
females. The same concept works in reverse for women. If they look like the most physically fit
female, more men will want them. Another theory in psychology that this relates to is the imaginary
audience theory. This theory involves an individual having an egotistic belief that people around them
are watching them and their every move. In order for an individual to feel the need to out perform
another, they must believe that others are watching

Jealousy, By William Shakespeare
One of the most powerful and prominent themes that is explored in all three of my chosen texts is
jealousy, It is presented in many different ways ranging from sexual and romantic jealousy to
professional jealousy of someone of a higher rank or social standing. In every example jealousy is
portrayed as being the main cause of self destruction of the characters it afflicts. Othello is driven to
madness by his jealousy and this culminates in the murder of his wife, Ferdinand loses his sanity and
murders his sister because of his intense jealousy over her lover and his desire to possess her body.
Finally, hopeless stalker Jed Parry turns suicidal when his desires and love toward Joe are not
reciprocated and he becomes increasingly jealous of Joe s girlfriend Clarissa. All three writers explore
the effects of jealousy and its potentially fatal consequences which I destroy the characters afflicted by
this emotion. Webster, Shakespeare and McEwan suggests that jealousy always leads to self
destruction and I will be analysing the causes of jealousy as well as the adverse effects it has on the
characters experiencing it.
Throughout my chosen texts, there are many different causes of jealousy which affect characters in
different ways. Sexual jealousy is the most prevalent type as it affects numerous characters across the
texts. The way in which it is presented is by the gradual progression with the breakdown of the
character. In Othello the eponymous character is convinced that his

The Negative Impacts Of Integrity In Society
Brené Brown once said, Integrity is choosing courage over comfort; choosing what is right over what
is fun, fast, or easy; and choosing to practice our values rather than simply professing them. Integrity
is threatened everyday by three major combatants: cheating, lying, and plagiarizing. Many do not
realize the extent of their actions. Life is like the domino effect: an action always affects someone
else. When a person lacking integrity makes a decision, the people affected are often wounded in the
process. A lack of integrity leads to a life of negative impacts with the three main threats to integrity
being cheating, lying, and plagiarizing. Cheating is universal, and it is very similar worldwide.
According to the LA Times, Teachers say that hiding cheat sheets in socks, copying neighbors answers
and scribbling notes on walls are the most common tactics. Test papers routinely are leaked as well,
often by low level school employees who sell them for the equivalent of a few dollars, and sometimes
by teachers or administrators whose professional standing rises if students perform well (Shashank
Bengali 3). This shows that children were not only ones benefitting from cheating. The children
themselves benefitted by passing the tests, but the others benefitted in monetary and social standings.
Although children benefit immediately from cheating, there are negative impacts in the long run. In an
article by Bengali, Madhukar Yadhav says, ...they are used to

elementary school. While in Dallas, I lived with my mom and grandpa and attended the same school
that my mom taught at. I had started my first year of elementary as well as my first year in a bilingual
class where I was taught to read and write in both english and spanish, and it wasn t because I didn t

The Role of Women in Homer’s Iliad Essay
The Role of Women in Homer s Iliad
Homer s Iliad is undoubtedly focused on its male characters: Achilles, primarily, but also Hector and
Agamemnon. Nevertheless, it seems that the most crucial characters in the epic are female. Homer
uses the characters of Thetis, Andromache, and Helen as a basis for comparison to the male characters.
Homer wants his audience to see and understand the folly of his male characters in choosing war over
peace, aggression over kindness, and honor over family. While the behavior of these characters clearly
speaks for itself, the contrasting attitudes and behaviors of the female characters proffer an alternative;
in comparison, the reader can hardly fail to concur with Homer s message that war, aggression, ...

Thetis is always motivated by her love and pity for her son, two emotions he seems unable to feel
himself. As a loving mother, she is concerned for her son and his future and so ensures that he is aware
of his options. Out of respect for him, she allows Achilles to make his own decision and goes as far as
to support him fully, although the attentive reader can sense that doing so is immensely painful for her.
Therefore, although it superficially seems that Thetis supports war and aggression, her true motives
are far more admirable.
Unlike Thetis, Andromache s values are clear. On the rampart in book six, she makes an impassioned
plea to Hector for reason and peace. Pity me, please! she says, Take your stand on the rampart here,
before you orphan your son and make your wife a widow. (ll. 230 231) When her fears are realized
and Hector is struck down by Achilles, she laments, Hector, what help are you to [Astyanax], now you
are dead? (l. 571) This single statement lays bare the true folly of pride: How can one justify the
preservation of honor at the cost of the destruction of all that one fought for in the first place?
Finally, there is great irony in the lamentations of both Helen and Briseis for Hector and Patroclus
respectively. Helen proclaims her respect for Hector s kindness: Hector, you d win them to my side . . .
you with your gentle temper, all your gentle

Temper Tantrums Sociology
The behavior I chose was temper tantrums. When a authority figure gives in to this type of
misbehavior it teaches a child that this is the easiest way to produce a desired outcome. When this
behavior goes untreated it can cause problems at school and in public situation, and result in the child
not feeling the need to show effort because they can receive what they want not through hard work,
but through throwing a tantrum. I work in a foster group home and have learned that the temper
tantrums are not just caused by a parent spoiling a child, but can also be caused by domestic violence.
The child feels the need to gain some sort of control over a situation. The abuse they have experienced
has shown them that the correct reaction is a violent outburst, that all problems should be solved with
conflict. I have also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Giving the child attention outside of throwing a temper tantrum is a very effective positive
reinforcement, but this must be coupled with negative punishment by not giving the child attention
when they are throwing a tantrum. This starts to teach them that the best way to get a desired outcome
is by behaving the right way. Consistent is key to change the behavior. In my situation where the child
has loss a sense of control because of their abuse it is helpful to give them choices they can choose
instead of what they are throwing a tantrum about to help them gain control of the situation they are
in, for example you can t watch T.V. but you can choose either draw or read a book. A big
reinforcement is creating goals with the child that can be earned through good behavior, these should
not just include big rewards, but small ones on the way to help build trust that they will really receive
what they are promised for good behavior. Trust is key, once the child trust that you will provide all
the necessities of life without the child throwing a tantrum the behavior will

Analysis Of Ian Mcewan s The Saturday Essay
In this analytic essay, I will be exploring the use of literary language in the novel Saturday by Ian
McEwan and how with the use of narration and imagery can under shadow a simple piece of
literature.
Ian McEwan uses a contemporary character to show the day in a life of a Londoner, with the aid of the
narrator s voice throughout, there is a lot of symbolic imagery and strong statements. The narrator
appears omniscient thought out this text, the effectiveness of this allows us to be emotionally attached
to just Henry, and not allowing much use of imagination. Wonderfully Ian McEwan challenges the
reader at moments of conflict, with morality in mind, to then following the view of Henry. Is the
lierarture theme of following this character a metaphor for London? I believe this choice of narration
is to cover up the sub lining of this piece of literature, which is power and identification of London
through a single character.
The use of the vocabulary in this novel is rather meticulous, every detail finely researched, a piece of
fiction that educates the reader and questions. With the use of sleeping, working, entertaining
themselves he writes humanly relatable actions, as if we were in fact a machine, a routine sequence
that sub textually describes the character Henry, and with that in place, describes London. Henry goes
about his day in a perfect circle . Henry s thoughts describe his accident as a trivial matter p82 an
inconvenience, which is shown when he disregards

Society s Current Structure Of Masculinity
Society s current structure of masculinity is unforgiving in form. It cuts out other forms of masculinity,
it physically and mentally demanding, and its ill effects extend far beyond the men it infuses itself in.
Yet what would we do if we were given other options for masculinity, ones that allowed for unique
blends of attitudes and perceptions? Looking in to the lives of homeless men we can see the forced
strategies which create new masculine codes created for the adaption against patriarchal pressures.
They are made out of survival need to circumnavigate the painful mental and physical reality that is
only made worse by harsh masculine standards. Yet these new masculinities hold out a form of
hopefulness for society. They offer up new discussion to what it means to be a man, the potential for
change, and what we can expect from changes in male identity over time. Using what we learn from
the disadvantaged, we can hope to improve the lives of people, although the process will take time,
effort, and careful mediation. Timothy Nonn s Hitting Bottom: Homelessness, Poverty, and
Masculinity touches on the complicated issues homeless men face, especially in terms of adapting to
pressures of hegemonic masculinity. The mental and physical stress of homelessness for men stems
from a denial of identity due to the rigid construction of maleness. Homeless men lose their
connection to the same power other men come to expect, they lose their place in society, and because

The Role Of Community In African And Middle Eastern...
Literature is defined as, writings in prose or verse; especially : writings having excellence of form or
expression and expressing ideas of permanent or universal interest (Merriam Webster). In both African
and Middle Eastern literature, there is an overlap in theme, motif, and ideas. There is an awareness of
community over oneself present in both forms of literature. The role of women in both societies is
viewed as one of a lesser importance than the male presence. A discrepancy in the similarity between
Middle Eastern and African literature is the presence of a mystical unexplainable presence in African
literature. The presence of community and its role is presented in both African and Middle Eastern
literature. These themes can be seen a variety of times in both pieces of literature. In The Beekeeper s
Journey the idea of inclusivity and community is presented as the author writes, He could not fire a
rifle with accuracy, he could not use a blade with any skill, and he knew nothing about fighting, so he
would die... (The Beekeeper s Journey 8). In this Abbas (The main character of the story) is so
committed to a sense of duty that he is willing to die for his community. Through this connection to
his community, he is knowingly entering a battle with the knowledge that he will die. Thus furthering
the idea of community over oneself in this story and many others that fall into the same genre of
Middle Eastern literature. A piece of African literature that

Colombia s Political System And Policies
I was a stranger in a foreign country and I was surrounded by numerous people known to have killed
in the past. This is how I spent many afternoons during the summer of 2014. That year, I traveled to a
city called Cartagena in the South American country of Colombia. At this time, I had big plans of
studying law and getting involved in politics. I was involved in a joint program between my
undergraduate university and the University of Cartagena, which is where I was introduced to
Professor Germán Ruiz. Professor Ruiz worked in the university s global and public policy office and
I was offered an internship with him. I assumed I would be learning about Colombia s political system
and policies but I was surprisingly mistaken. The first day of my internship was the day Professor
Ruiz told me about Bonché. Bonché was a social project aimed at combating urban youth violence by
using sports to help generate a sustained dialogue between rival street gangs. The project would
engage youth gang members in certain outlets that would eventually lead toward open conversations
between enemies in an effort to better their communities as a team. I had the opportunity to be
involved in the beginning stages of this project. Professor Ruiz, one social worker, one former gang
member, and I would travel to the outlying neighborhoods in Cartagena and convince known violent
gang members to take part in our project and figure out how best to implement it. The first day of

Romanticism In The Tree Of Life By Terrence Malick
When I first heard of the word Romanticism , I automatically assumed it was more of an intricate way
to say romance but romanticism is much more than pursuing someone. Romanticism is a movement of
art and literature that formulated around the late 18th century that is characterized by strong emotions,
individualism and the glorification of all past and nature. The Tree of Life directed by Terrence Malick
is a perfect example of romanticism and conforms well with Hugo s manifesto on Romanticism. It is
about the story of a family in Waco, Texas in 1950 s that loses one of their sons. Growing up, the
eldest son and struggles with his parents conflicting teachings. Later in life he looks back on his
childhood and through his memories, tries to find the meaning of life. Terrence s film complies with
Hugo s preface on romanticism by featuring moments from the past, incorporation of nature and
containing organized religion. In The Tree of Life the journey begins when we learn that a son has
died and it takes us on this course of the oldest brother s Jack, reminiscence growing up in this family.
As we see him mature in age, his innocence is lost because of his father s questioning family ideals
and rules. His father instructs these household manners against his brothers and Jack when their father
doesn t follow them himself. So eventually we see the son s back talk to him and revolt against their
father. Their mother is a bystander whenever their father is around, but when he

professional military force in the world. Based on the 2014 Army Strategic Planning Guidance, the
U.S. Army has the responsibility to train its junior officers in strategy trough the domains of leader
development. First at Institutional training, then during their operational assignments and third during
the facilitation of leader self development. This essay explains how the three domains of leader
development nest strategic training for junior officers starting at the institutional training domain. The
Institutional Training Domain of Leader Development includes military schools and training centers.

Compare And Contrast Gorillas And Baboons
Have you ever wondered what gorillas and baboons eat, where they live, and what they look like?
Even though you may think these primates are the same, they are really quite different. From the
habitats to the diets, gorillas and baboons are interesting creatures. Some of the differences of these
two animals traits are that gorillas weigh about 374 pounds and baboons only weigh about 82 pounds
at the most. Gorillas are about 5.6 ft tall and baboons are only 2.3 ft tall. A few similarities are the
lifespan of 30 years in the wild. They clean each other for parasites, and they are both healthy. A few
similarities and differences are shown. Their diets are quite similar because they both eat seeds. A few
differences is that gorillas

No Chicanos On Television By Cecilia Alvear Essay
The world we live in today is surrounded by media. The media goes anywhere from the television set
in your living room to the browser on your cellphone, and even the radio in your car. In short, we
cannot escape the media since it has become a natural part of our everyday lives. This five letter word
seems so insignificant, yet it is so powerful. Since we are in touch with media everywhere we go, we
always seem to believe everything that is shown to us. Many things are shown in media but that does
not necessarily mean that they are always true. There are times in which certain ethnic groups are
falsely portrayed. An article from 1998 titled, No Chicanos on Tv by Cecilia Alvear, talks about the
lack of diversity that one might find in the media. In this case, she mentions that Chicanos are hardly
ever shown in the media and that when they are, it is not in a positive way. Alvear mentions that they
are only shown when they are being arrested or when there are illegal aliens fleeing. The media as a
whole is responsible for the stereotypes, discrimination, and violence minority groups may face due to
their portrayal of these races. Our country is constructed of dissimilar races and that is what makes us
so unique and beautiful. We have people that are Caucasian,Asian,African American,Hispanic, etc. The
fact that we are such a diverse country is great but there are times in which we are not always familiar
with these different races. We make assumptions and assume that we know

Overview of the WARN Act
For so many years, this nation has been creating policies and laws to protect the people and their way
of life. One particular law that was passed still creates a lot of confusion on whether this law pertains
to them or not. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act is a federal law to
protect workers, their families, and society from sudden or unforeseen job losses due to plant closings
and massive layoffs. The WARN Act was originally enacted on August 4, 1988, but it evidentially
became effective on February 4, 1989 (Department of Labor, 2013). Unlike other laws that are
enforced by certain government or federal agencies, the WARN Act in which an employee, their
representative, or a government official has the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Department of Energy (DOE) concluded there were not enough sufficient benefits being offered
to the taxpayers for them to extend the enrichment at the plant (USEC). With the increasing cost of
production resulting from power consumption and the decreasing prices in nuclear fuel, the USEC felt
that it was in their best interest to begin the process of layoffs in order to continue operations into the
next year while trying to manage inventory, meet customer orders, as well as meeting the turnover
requirements with the DOE on its lease (USEC, 2013). To prepare themselves, the USEC utilized the
provisions of the WARN Act to properly commence with their scheduled layoff while providing
proper notice to their employees despite the many years of excellent performance from its workforce.
While the act may provide some control of policy, it can cause quite of bit of confusion for certain
departments of the government. As discussed previously, the WARN Act provides businesses with a
safeguard measure to utilize in the event of a shutdown or mass layoffs, but for the federal
government, many questions came about in light of the recent furloughs and shutdowns. The WARN
Act states that businesses must provide their employees with proper notice, but the furloughs tested
that notion due to being unsure of when exactly the furloughs were going to take place. I am currently

Evidence Of The Big Bang Cosmology
The second evidence of the Big Bang is the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), which is the
electromagnetic radiation left over from the time of recombination in Big Bang cosmology. It
represents the first light that travelled in the universe, at the time when the first atoms were formed
and the universe was transparent. The scientists Alpher and Hermann deduced that before the
recombination epoch, everything was plasma and the light rays would be continually scattered by the
particles they encountered (protons, neutrons, electrons), because many particles were charged.
During the recombination period, (around 300,000 years after the Big Bang, time taken from the
universe to cool down to 3,000 degrees Kelvin), the universe had cooled sufficiently ... Show more

COBE s measurements also provided another key of evidence of the Big Bang: the CMB has a near
perfect black body spectrum. an object with a constant temperature that absorbs all radiation that hits
it
A blackbody spectrum is produced by an isothermal, opaque and non reflecting object. Because of the
universality of the blackbody spectrum, it is possible to convert any spectral measurement into a
brightness temperature at the measured wavelength. The unique character of a blackbody spectrum is
that the brightness temperature of a blackbody is the same at all wavelengths (this is why every
wavelength in the CMB is 1 mm).
Furthermore, in order to make a blackbody spectrum, an object has to be opaque, non reflective and
isothermal. Thus a star, which is opaque, does not produce it because it has cooler outer layers and
hotter deeper layers. Thus the universe should have been a dark (since photons weren t free to escape),
non reflecting and isothermal plasma. (10)
Even though the temperature of the universe changes as it evolves, it looks isothermal because the
redshifting of radiation makes the universe appear to have exactly the same temperature as

Literature Review
2.1 Introduction This chapter includes the literary aspect of Bioluminescence that deals with the
glowing characteristics in jewelry, and also the availability and techniques already being practiced in
the market.
2.2 Bioluminescence Bioluminescence is the ability of living organisms to emit light. Apart from
Fireflies, glowworms and Jack O lantern mushrooms, bacteria, Fungi, Algae and 90% of marine life
exhibit this phenomenon. Kwok describes how in Chinese folklore, people used to use fireflies in
order for a source of light, and now after so many years scientists explained this phenomenon and also
explained the organisms reason for glow. (Kwok, A Mysteruoius Red Glow)

Advantage Of Liberal Arts College
For those who want to further their schooling in a way that focuses on undergraduate studies and
creating a well rounded education a liberal arts college is the perfect opportunity to achieve a higher
education. Some of the oldest liberal arts colleges in the United States date back to the 1600s. There
are many advantages to studying at a liberal arts college. A liberal arts education can give students the
opportunity to have a smaller environment and a well rounded education. The smaller environment
that a liberal arts college provides to students is very helpful for a successful college experience. A
smaller number of undergrad students enrolled into one s college translates to having smaller class
sizes. Jessica Velasco explains, Average class sizes at liberal arts colleges are usually less than 30
students (Velasco, College Raptor). The transition from small high school classes to college is easier if
the college classes are similar in size. This is especially helpful for students who have trouble focusing
and learn best in smaller environments. It is easier to get help when necessary. Hand in hand with
smaller class sizes is close relationships with professors. Velasco illustrates, Classes, including
introductory courses, are taught by professors at liberal arts colleges... because each class is usually
taught by a professor, this means they generally have the opportunity to spend more quality time with
their students, getting to know them, evaluating and critiquing their work much more closely, and
serving as mentors (Velasco, College Raptor). At most universities lecture classes have hundreds of
students. At those institutions, it is nearly impossible to be on a first name basis with the professors.
With a large number of students, there is often no time to build relationships. The small environment
that liberal arts colleges pride themselves on allows easy access to professors. They are able to answer
questions and personally help their students. Finally, many liberal arts colleges have many student
activities to take part in. Liberal arts colleges usually have fewer student organizations and activities
than larger universities, but participation tends to be higher, Velasco writes. Time

Response To The Allegory Of The Cave
Allegory of the Cave Review Questions
An allegory is a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a
moral or political one.
Plato is said to have placed his mentor, Socrates, in his place in the story. Therefore, Plato is having a
discussion wit one of his fellows known as Glaucon.
Plato describes the prison as a dark cave. In the cave are people chained in front of a walkway facing
the back wall of the cave. Behind the walkway, a large ball of fire casts shadows onto the back wall of
the cave. Plato is telling this story to compare this fable to the reality of ignorant people being
revealed to the truth.
The prisoners are chained and watching the shadows being displayed in front of them from the free
people on the walkway in front of the fire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After being in the dark for so long, it was difficult to adjust. Once his eyes did adjust, the prisoner
could see that the objects were much more than what they shadows had portrayed. The prisoner is then
exposed to the outer world, outside the cave, and immediately thinks of how he feels terrible for the
other prisoners who are still in the cave. He realizes that they will not experience what he has in this
new world.
Anthony 2
6. The prisoners see the objects that were casting shadows for what they really are, the light, the whole
new world. They are exposed to a new world of truth because they were surrounded by nothing but the
wall with the shadows. Objects look more realistic and figurative and the light overcomes them.
7. Glaucon responds to Plato through most of the writing in short, simplistic phrases that agree with
what he is saying. This allows for Plato to be seen as an influential and intelligent figure. At the end of
the story, Glaucon asks small questions, not to contradict his mentor, but to enhance the reader s
meaning of what Plato is

Food And Westernization In The Elephant Vanishes By Haruki...
Haruki Murakami s The Elephant Vanishes is a collection of short stories, published in 1993.
Murakami is a Japanese author who has spent most of his life in the West. His writing style is heavily
influenced by his lifestyle and therefore he is not considered to be a traditional Japanese author
(Poole). The affects of westernization on the characters can be evaluated from their conversations and
relationships. There is at least one Western component in each short story and it always has a relation
to the plotline or the characters. Food, arts and romantic relationships are the three main motifs in
which the affects of western elements can be seen. Although these motifs may not have a direct affect
on the actions of the characters, there is always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In almost every story, there is a romantic relationship between the characters. This relationship is
usually sexual and seems to be at the center of the plotline. It is not very common for Japanese people
to be so open about sexual relationships, but in The Elephant Vanishes, Murakami portrays characters,
which are very exposed about their romantic relationships. In The Wind Up Bird and Tuesday s
Woman , the narrator receives a call from an anonymous woman. Although he first refuses to talk to
the woman, he ends up having phone sex with her. I m in bed right now the woman says. I just took a
shower and have nothing on . The fact that the woman is so open to have a sexual conversation with
the narrator reflects the traces of westernization. On the other hand, the fact that the narrator is not so
comfortable with the situation he is in fulfills the reader s expectations of a traditional Japanese
plotline. A romantic relationship is present in almost every story and has a great influence on the way
the story unfolds by shaping the flow of the conversations. In Family Affair , the narrator is very
exposed about his sex life, while his sister is not so comfortable talking about sexual relationships.
Once again, there is a conflict originated from the differentiation of two cultures. In this case, the
narrator represents a westernized, modern mind while his sister is a model for a traditional Japanese
mindset.

Red King Crabs Stomach Analysis
Red king crabs were collected for stomach analysis and abundance estimates by using a specially
designed beam trawl, previously used in surveys for stock assessment by the Institute of Marine
Research (IMR). The crab trawl is 6 m wide, 1 m high, and is equipped with a 135 mm mesh size
polyethylene net (Sundet Berenboim 2008). The hauling speed was approximately 1.65 kn. It was not
possible to use a fixed standardized trawling distance because of the changing and rocky bottom
topography. Four hauls were also performed with a shrimp bottom trawl in 2005, to catch fish for
stomach analysis for another study not included in this paper. However, as red king crabs were caught
during four of these hauls (Table 3), stomach analysis of these crabs

Career Path For Certified Tumor Registrars
With a great passion for healthcare and helping others, I started my healthcare career by enrolling in
the Paramedic Certification Program through Johnston Community College after I graduated high
school. After six years of working as a Paramedic with the Johnston County Emergency Medical
Response System, I decided to go back to school to further my education in healthcare and work
toward obtaining a Master s Degree as a healthcare professional. I now occupy a position in Patient
Services Administration with Johnston UNC Healthcare as the Cancer Accreditation Analyst where I

oncology staff and physicians to insure compliance with the Commission on Cancer (CoC) Standards.
With healthcare being so broad, even within the Oncology setting, I have researched the Cancer

path. Certified Tumor Registrars (CTR s) are data information specialists that apprehend a complete
history, diagnosis, treatment, and health status for every diagnosed cancer patient in the United States,
as well as some other countries. These professionals work closely with all oncology related staff and

Social And Psychological Factors Influence Economic...
Behavioural economics, as it is possible to understand from the definition of the field itself, studies
how social and psychological factors influence economic decisions. The main difference with the
classical economic approach is that, while economists use a normative approach in describing
extit{how decisions should be made} to optimise a reward function, by assuming that subjects are
rational decision makers citep{von2007theory}, behavioural economics describes extit{how decisions
are actually made} by using experiments that emulate real life decision problems
citep{kahneman2000choices, todd2003bounding}. This field of research has lead to the development
of heuristics that subjects use in different choice context citep{holyoak2005cambridge}. However,
these explanations only postulate disparate heuristics for different choice settings and cannot describe
the time course of a decision. In an attempt to overcome such limitations, recently, sequential
sampling models of choice widely studied in the perceptual decision making field, have been used to
explain the time course of preference formation in value based choice in which the subject is no more
integrating evidence over time, but value instead, as for example in making a decision between
different sources of food. An example of a value based decision making choice is: shall I have an
apple or a pear? From a phenomenological approach this might seem a trivial question, however
investigating how such a decision is

Effects Of Christmas On American Culture
Since the beginning of globalization and the expansion of the large firms, several selling techniques
were developed. However, this gave birth to a fierce struggle between those companies that tear their
customers. This willingness to sell brings its advantages but can also be disadvantageous for the
culture of a society. This essay will approach the theme of the commercialization of Christmas by
demonstrating that in Quebec this event has become a commercial event and is less traditional and lost
its religious character and by explaining the effects on adults and children. As a matter of fact, with all
the publicities and the constant apparition of messages selling values and a new image of the culture
surrounding Christmas, the changing of adult s perception is inevitable and widely affected by
commercialization. Each year, the two months preceding Christmas are very important for TV shows,

Vietnam And Its Effects On The United States
Vietnam was originally a French colony located in Indochina. After the end of the First Indochina War
when the French were defeated by the Vietnamese in 1954, the French persisted to obtain their
freedom. They sought to obtain it by signing the Geneva Peace Accords, granting freedom to most of
the colonies but left Vietnam divided at the seventeenth parallel into two different states. The northern
portion was controlled by the Vietnamese, while the south was controlled by France, later on by the
United States. The Viet Minh, governed by Ho Chi Minh, however were determined to rule over all
the territory surrounding its borders so elections were scheduled hopefully to reunite the country under
a strict Communist government. The Communists had a good probability of winning the elections due
to their superiority in organizations, but the United States did as much as possible to keep
Communism out of the South and other regions prone to falling into it. As the new Superpowers
emerged after the end of World War II, the challenge of maintaining authority over targeted territory
remained, but it was completely challenged by getting involved in the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War,
being one of the longest wars recorded in American History, was also marked as the first War that
made the United States fail with their plans of eradicating Communism to secure land that could be
run by an independent government. Additionally, this war was broadcast on television, which allowed

Porter s Generic Strategies Framework
Introduction Porter s generic strategies framework constitutes a major contribution to the development
of the strategic management literature. Generic strategies were first presented in two books by
Professor Michael Porter of the Harvard Business School (Porter, 1980, 1985). Porter (1980, 1985)
suggested that some of the most basic choices faced by companies are essentially the scope of the
markets that the company would serve and how the company would compete in the selected markets.
Competitive strategies focus on ways in which a company can achieve the most advantageous position
that it possibly can in its industry (Pearson, 1999). The profit of a company is essentially the
difference between its revenues and costs. Therefore high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Companies employ this strategy by focusing on the areas in a market where there is the least amount
of competition (Pearson, 1999). Organisations can make use of the focus strategy by focusing on a
specific niche in the market and offering specialised products for that niche. This is why the focus
strategy is also sometimes referred to as the niche strategy (Lynch, 2003). Therefore, competitive
advantage can be achieved only in the company s target segments by employing the focus strategy.
The company can make use of the cost leadership or differentiation approach with regard to the focus
strategy. In that, a company using the cost focus approach would aim for a cost advantage in its target
segment only. If a company is using the differentiation focus approach, it would aim for differentiation
in its target segment only, and not the overall market. This strategy provides the company the
possibility to charge a premium price for superior quality (differentiation focus) or by offering a low
price product to a small and specialised group of buyers (cost focus). Ferrari and Rolls Royce are
classic examples of niche players in the automobile industry. Both these companies have a niche of
premium products available at a premium price. Moreover, they have a small percentage of the
worldwide market, which is a trait characteristic of niche players. The downside of the focus strategy,
however, is that the niche characteristically is small and may not be significant or large

when the individual arrived at the premises, whilst the other enabler supported the individual. But
there is no funding for 2 1 care. This leaves a situation where risk will always be present, but the skills
of the enablers will hopefully grow as they learn ways of promoting positive behaviour in the
community. 1.3 Describe the links between risk taking and responsibility, empowerment and social
inclusion. Anybody who takes a full role in society takes risks: crossing the road, using a bus, driving
a car, and talking to people they do not know. Risk may be physical (injury and accident), emotional
(humiliation, sense of failure), or mental (stress). A person who is excluded from a group is
disempowered. Inclusion is a strong and forceful need. Many people consider being part of a tribe,
gang, clique or social group a necessary part of their life. Exclusion is disempowering. We are aware
of bullying in schools, and the words still resound in my ears, You can t be part of our gang! With

  • 2. Street Art And Graffiti Street art and graffiti has grown increasingly popular worldwide in the last few decades. This is because street artists are given the opportunity to showcase their ideas and opinions freely, and do not allow themselves to be limited by regulations of the law or public opinion. Street artists can express the unpopular opinion without worry that they will be punished for it, as these artists often work anonymously. According to Michael DeNotto from St. Mary s University of Minnesota, street art allows the artist to reject established standards, encourage experimentation, and draw from popular culture and advertising (Street Art and Graffiti, 1). They are given the canvas of public property such as sidewalks and building walls to create art pieces that can be viewed by potentially anyone. However, the fact that the audience for street art is so vast can also lead to disagreements about the content or location of the art, and difference in opinion between the artist and the viewers. Street art can be used as a method of openly expressing opinions on controversial matters, such as war, laws, public figures, social issues, and more. In Street Art San Francisco by Annice Jacoby, there are several art pieces depicting anguish and disapproval. There is a mural of a person crying over loved ones who have past away, with the words, Those We Love, We Remember. There is another painted across a fence, depicting the lives affected by the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Across the bottom, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mother-Daughter Relationships In Silver Sparrow By Tayari... In the book, Silver Sparrow, the mother daughter relationships between Dana and Gwen to Chaurisse and Laverne show various similarities and differences. The two relationships between mother and daughter are very noticeable throughout the novel. Tayari Jones made it easy for readers to distinguish the types of relationships the mothers and the daughters have together. The mother daughter relationships also have a role with James relationship with each family. To begin with, the two mother daughter relationships have a few similarities throughout the novel. One similarity is the strong relationship between each other. For example, Gwen would lie on Dana s bed, talk to her, and watch her play with toys (11). In addition, Gwen sticks up for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Laverne has been with James since she was fourteen because Laverne got pregnant with James child (165). James is usually present with their family unless he is visiting with Dana and Gwen. James is super close with Chaurisse growing up. When Chaurisse was a baby, she had colic and James was the one who could calm her down (220). Their relationship is close and James lets Chaurisse help him with work. For example, Chaurisse was the attendant for Ruth Nicole Elizabeth Grant s sweet sixteen while James drove the limo (229). As I read the novel, I noticed a lot that Laverne and Chaurisse meant so much more to James than Dana and Gwen. For instance, when Laverne and Chaurisse found out about Gwen and Dana, James kept fighting for Laverne until she took him back (329 333). This goes to show that their mother daughter relationship shaped James relationship with them completely different that Dana and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Is Henry V A Christian King In Henry V written by Shakespeare, Henry V is exhibited as an idle Christian king. But throughout the play his actions and his past show him to be a typical man. Although, some of his characteristics as a king show him to be as he was perceived. King Henry started out as a Christian king but as the play goes on he is further seen as an average man in his speeches and his actions, but is still seen by the audience as a man of God. Throughout the play Henry is described as a true lover of the holy church (I.i.23), and the mirror of all Christian kings (II.Cho.6). He is played up as the ideal and seamless Christian king. Then during the battle of Agincourt, King Henry tells his army that it is up to Gods will (IV.iii.23), which shows that he had great faith in God. This is an incredible demonstration of confidence and trust in God and it stresses his honorable Christian qualities. Another example of him being a Christian king is in scene two when Henry says God quit you in His mercy which I took as you got God s mercy and the person receiving it was lucky to have God s mercy on their side during the event happening. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The characteristics of a Christian can be affected by a number of variables, the time period or the denomination are two good examples of this. Although aside from these factors some of the basic traits of a Christian are devotion, kindness, and knowledge. Be that as it may, this isn t only what King Henry was seen as, while he was seen as a Christian he was likewise a lord, a leader. So he would need to demonstrate the characteristics of a Christian and a king. Qualities of a king, or leader are courage, confidence, accountability, and integrity, and these are just a few of the numerous parts to being a good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Sources Of Authority In Antigone One of the most popular conflicts from classical Greek literature is the one found between Antigone and Creon in Sophocles play Antigone. After a lethal conflict that left both of Antigone s brothers dead, Creon ordered that Polyneices (one of Antigone s brothers who fought against Creon s state) be denied a proper and honorable burial. Antigone opposed Creon s order; her own religious faith to the Greek Gods demanded that she defy the decree and bury Polynices anyways. This tension between the two characters proposes an interesting and complex dynamic between the two different sources of authority. Both attempt argue that their source of authority and the obligation that are connected with it is more legitimate, thus delegitimizing each other s laws. However, as stated by Molly Farneth in her essay Gender and the Ethical Given, both of these laws come into conflict because both authorities are unwilling to compromise and modify their strict standards. This tension is subsequently caused by a number of factors, and Farneth goes into detail investigating each of these components, ranging from gender roles in ancient Greek society to the role of ethics in how the law is applied. I agree with the arguments made by Farneth and through my research, I hope to understand how these sources of authority are viewed by and pursue this topic in a view focused on justice. There are many interesting question that arise regarding the relationship between the authority of the law as well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The notion that feels like a far off dream that will never reach its destination; death Death, be not proud, by John Donne, Because I could not stop for Death, and I heard a Fly buzz when I died, both written by Emily Dickinson, explore the meaning of leaving this earth for good. The writers excellently depict the feelings that come with the thought of no longer living. They show that dying does not end on this earth but that something greater awaits. The poems Death, be not proud, Because I could not stop for Death, and I heard a Fly buzz, portray the meaning of death with excellence. Death, be not proud, tells the story of ... • 8. Individuality In Daisy Miller And The Love Song Of J.... Individualism in Daisy Miller and Prufrock The two stories Daisy Miller: A Study by Henry James and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot both express individuality. While Daisy Miller: A Study is a realistic short story and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is a modernist poem they convey individuality differently. While the title character in Daisy Miller embraces her individuality by not caring what people think of her, Prufrock is insecure and questions who he is and how people will perceive him. Both characters have detailed traits that express who they are. Daisy appears very confident, outspoken, and has a vivacious personality. On the other hand, Prufrock starts off with an uneasy tone and has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Daisy starts up a little argument with him. The narrator states, She opened fire upon the mysterious charmer in Geneva (James 113). Daisy and Winterbourne had only known each other for a few days, so Daisy had no reason to question Winterbourne s intentions. Through her argument with Winterbourne, Daisy shows herself as being quick tempered, needy, and jealous. During the same argument Daisy states, I don t want you to come for your aunt... I want you to come for me (James 113). Daisy s desire to be the center of Winterbourne s attention makes her jealous of another woman, even if that woman is his relative. She wants to be the only reason Winterbourne goes to Rome. While Daisy is an attention craver, Prufrock is the exact opposite and does not want any attention on him. Prufrock states: And I have known the eyes already, known them all The eyes that fix you in a formulated phrase, And when I am formulated, sprawling on a pin, When I am pinned and wriggling on the wall, Then how should I begin (Eliot 582). Prufrock describes how he feels when all the attention is on him. He feels as if he is on display and believes people will analyze and scrutinize everything about him. He then questions how he should begin a conversation, believing he will be judged. • 9. Working Out Hypothesis **Title** We constructed a top down hypothesis that people exhibit an increase in their performance level when working out in the presence of others as opposed to working out alone. To test our hypothesis, we questioned 12 males and 12 females that are between the ages of 18 and 24, and are frequent gym goers. We asked them whether or not they preferred to work out in front of other others, or if they would rather work out alone, and why. We formatted this question in a standard text message that we sent out to eight people each. In order to duplicate these findings, there are a few design features that should be present. First, the individuals must attend a gym or workout class on a regular basis (about 2 3 times per week). Also, on top of this, they must have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theory of sexual selection states that traits that help with mating success can be selected for, even if they hurt chances of survival. High testosterone levels are not necessarily great for a man health wise. However, the men with these high levels are the ones that are the highest performers in the gym. The theory of intrasexual competition involves an individual out competing other individuals of the same sex. This goes hand in hand with people increasing their performance level when wanting to outperform others in the gym. By looking like the strongest man, you can attract more high quality females. The same concept works in reverse for women. If they look like the most physically fit female, more men will want them. Another theory in psychology that this relates to is the imaginary audience theory. This theory involves an individual having an egotistic belief that people around them are watching them and their every move. In order for an individual to feel the need to out perform another, they must believe that others are watching ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Jealousy, By William Shakespeare One of the most powerful and prominent themes that is explored in all three of my chosen texts is jealousy, It is presented in many different ways ranging from sexual and romantic jealousy to professional jealousy of someone of a higher rank or social standing. In every example jealousy is portrayed as being the main cause of self destruction of the characters it afflicts. Othello is driven to madness by his jealousy and this culminates in the murder of his wife, Ferdinand loses his sanity and murders his sister because of his intense jealousy over her lover and his desire to possess her body. Finally, hopeless stalker Jed Parry turns suicidal when his desires and love toward Joe are not reciprocated and he becomes increasingly jealous of Joe s girlfriend Clarissa. All three writers explore the effects of jealousy and its potentially fatal consequences which I destroy the characters afflicted by this emotion. Webster, Shakespeare and McEwan suggests that jealousy always leads to self destruction and I will be analysing the causes of jealousy as well as the adverse effects it has on the characters experiencing it. Throughout my chosen texts, there are many different causes of jealousy which affect characters in different ways. Sexual jealousy is the most prevalent type as it affects numerous characters across the texts. The way in which it is presented is by the gradual progression with the breakdown of the character. In Othello the eponymous character is convinced that his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Negative Impacts Of Integrity In Society Brené Brown once said, Integrity is choosing courage over comfort; choosing what is right over what is fun, fast, or easy; and choosing to practice our values rather than simply professing them. Integrity is threatened everyday by three major combatants: cheating, lying, and plagiarizing. Many do not realize the extent of their actions. Life is like the domino effect: an action always affects someone else. When a person lacking integrity makes a decision, the people affected are often wounded in the process. A lack of integrity leads to a life of negative impacts with the three main threats to integrity being cheating, lying, and plagiarizing. Cheating is universal, and it is very similar worldwide. According to the LA Times, Teachers say that hiding cheat sheets in socks, copying neighbors answers and scribbling notes on walls are the most common tactics. Test papers routinely are leaked as well, often by low level school employees who sell them for the equivalent of a few dollars, and sometimes by teachers or administrators whose professional standing rises if students perform well (Shashank Bengali 3). This shows that children were not only ones benefitting from cheating. The children themselves benefitted by passing the tests, but the others benefitted in monetary and social standings. Although children benefit immediately from cheating, there are negative impacts in the long run. In an article by Bengali, Madhukar Yadhav says, ...they are used to ... One of the biggest privileges that I have, in this case writing, started at a really young age in the city of Dallas,TX. I believe I was around 6 years old at the time and in the first grade of elementary school. While in Dallas, I lived with my mom and grandpa and attended the same school that my mom taught at. I had started my first year of elementary as well as my first year in a bilingual class where I was taught to read and write in both english and spanish, and it wasn t because I didn t know how to speak english, but because both of my parents wanted me to later on be able to read and write both english and spanish fluently. A couple of months later, my mom received a phone talk from Harmony Science Academy where they told her that I had been accepted through the lottery system. As soon as I entered Harmony everything changed, from work, homework, expectations, rules, but most importantly their teaching system. Harmony felt just right for me since I was more than able to give my full potential as well as my best behavior. As the years passed, I would gain more knowledge as well as readiness towards attending college. During the time that I ve been in Harmony, I have had the great privilege of meeting great and experienced teachers that have helped and influenced the development of my writing as well as my writing skills. Every single english teacher that I ve had in Harmony has definitely left a print in my writing thanks to their knowledge and their literacy experience. • 13. The Role of Women in Homer’s Iliad Essay The Role of Women in Homer s Iliad Homer s Iliad is undoubtedly focused on its male characters: Achilles, primarily, but also Hector and Agamemnon. Nevertheless, it seems that the most crucial characters in the epic are female. Homer uses the characters of Thetis, Andromache, and Helen as a basis for comparison to the male characters. Homer wants his audience to see and understand the folly of his male characters in choosing war over peace, aggression over kindness, and honor over family. While the behavior of these characters clearly speaks for itself, the contrasting attitudes and behaviors of the female characters proffer an alternative; in comparison, the reader can hardly fail to concur with Homer s message that war, aggression, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thetis is always motivated by her love and pity for her son, two emotions he seems unable to feel himself. As a loving mother, she is concerned for her son and his future and so ensures that he is aware of his options. Out of respect for him, she allows Achilles to make his own decision and goes as far as to support him fully, although the attentive reader can sense that doing so is immensely painful for her. Therefore, although it superficially seems that Thetis supports war and aggression, her true motives are far more admirable. Unlike Thetis, Andromache s values are clear. On the rampart in book six, she makes an impassioned plea to Hector for reason and peace. Pity me, please! she says, Take your stand on the rampart here, before you orphan your son and make your wife a widow. (ll. 230 231) When her fears are realized and Hector is struck down by Achilles, she laments, Hector, what help are you to [Astyanax], now you are dead? (l. 571) This single statement lays bare the true folly of pride: How can one justify the preservation of honor at the cost of the destruction of all that one fought for in the first place? Finally, there is great irony in the lamentations of both Helen and Briseis for Hector and Patroclus respectively. When a authority figure gives in to this type of misbehavior it teaches a child that this is the easiest way to produce a desired outcome. When this behavior goes untreated it can cause problems at school and in public situation, and result in the child not feeling the need to show effort because they can receive what they want not through hard work, but through throwing a tantrum. I work in a foster group home and have learned that the temper tantrums are not just caused by a parent spoiling a child, but can also be caused by domestic violence. The child feels the need to gain some sort of control over a situation. The abuse they have experienced has shown them that the correct reaction is a violent outburst, that all problems should be solved with conflict. I have also ... Giving the child attention outside of throwing a temper tantrum is a very effective positive reinforcement, but this must be coupled with negative punishment by not giving the child attention when they are throwing a tantrum. This starts to teach them that the best way to get a desired outcome is by behaving the right way. Consistent is key to change the behavior. In my situation where the child has loss a sense of control because of their abuse it is helpful to give them choices they can choose instead of what they are throwing a tantrum about to help them gain control of the situation they are in, for example you can t watch T.V. but you can choose either draw or read a book. A big reinforcement is creating goals with the child that can be earned through good behavior, these should not just include big rewards, but small ones on the way to help build trust that they will really receive what they are promised for good behavior. • 15. Analysis Of Ian Mcewan s The Saturday Essay In this analytic essay, I will be exploring the use of literary language in the novel Saturday by Ian McEwan and how with the use of narration and imagery can under shadow a simple piece of literature. Ian McEwan uses a contemporary character to show the day in a life of a Londoner, with the aid of the narrator s voice throughout, there is a lot of symbolic imagery and strong statements. The narrator appears omniscient thought out this text, the effectiveness of this allows us to be emotionally attached to just Henry, and not allowing much use of imagination. Wonderfully Ian McEwan challenges the reader at moments of conflict, with morality in mind, to then following the view of Henry. Is the lierarture theme of following this character a metaphor for London? I believe this choice of narration is to cover up the sub lining of this piece of literature, which is power and identification of London through a single character. The use of the vocabulary in this novel is rather meticulous, every detail finely researched, a piece of fiction that educates the reader and questions. With the use of sleeping, working, entertaining themselves he writes humanly relatable actions, as if we were in fact a machine, a routine sequence that sub textually describes the character Henry, and with that in place, describes London. Henry goes about his day in a perfect circle . Henry s thoughts describe his accident as a trivial matter p82 an inconvenience, which is shown when he disregards ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Society s Current Structure Of Masculinity Society s current structure of masculinity is unforgiving in form. It cuts out other forms of masculinity, it physically and mentally demanding, and its ill effects extend far beyond the men it infuses itself in. Yet what would we do if we were given other options for masculinity, ones that allowed for unique blends of attitudes and perceptions? Looking in to the lives of homeless men we can see the forced strategies which create new masculine codes created for the adaption against patriarchal pressures. They are made out of survival need to circumnavigate the painful mental and physical reality that is only made worse by harsh masculine standards. Yet these new masculinities hold out a form of hopefulness for society. They offer up new discussion to what it means to be a man, the potential for change, and what we can expect from changes in male identity over time. Using what we learn from the disadvantaged, we can hope to improve the lives of people, although the process will take time, effort, and careful mediation. Timothy Nonn s Hitting Bottom: Homelessness, Poverty, and Masculinity touches on the complicated issues homeless men face, especially in terms of adapting to pressures of hegemonic masculinity. The mental and physical stress of homelessness for men stems from a denial of identity due to the rigid construction of maleness. Homeless men lose their connection to the same power other men come to expect, they lose their place in society, and because of the way our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. The Role Of Community In African And Middle Eastern... Literature is defined as, writings in prose or verse; especially : writings having excellence of form or expression and expressing ideas of permanent or universal interest (Merriam Webster). In both African and Middle Eastern literature, there is an overlap in theme, motif, and ideas. There is an awareness of community over oneself present in both forms of literature. The role of women in both societies is viewed as one of a lesser importance than the male presence. A discrepancy in the similarity between Middle Eastern and African literature is the presence of a mystical unexplainable presence in African literature. The presence of community and its role is presented in both African and Middle Eastern literature. These themes can be seen a variety of times in both pieces of literature. In The Beekeeper s Journey the idea of inclusivity and community is presented as the author writes, He could not fire a rifle with accuracy, he could not use a blade with any skill, and he knew nothing about fighting, so he would die... (The Beekeeper s Journey 8). In this Abbas (The main character of the story) is so committed to a sense of duty that he is willing to die for his community. Through this connection to his community, he is knowingly entering a battle with the knowledge that he will die. Romanticism In The Tree Of Life By Terrence Malick When I first heard of the word Romanticism , I automatically assumed it was more of an intricate way to say romance but romanticism is much more than pursuing someone. Romanticism is a movement of art and literature that formulated around the late 18th century that is characterized by strong emotions, individualism and the glorification of all past and nature. The Tree of Life directed by Terrence Malick is a perfect example of romanticism and conforms well with Hugo s manifesto on Romanticism. Later in life he looks back on his childhood and through his memories, tries to find the meaning of life. In The Tree of Life the journey begins when we learn that a son has died and it takes us on this course of the oldest brother s Jack, reminiscence growing up in this family. The media goes anywhere from the television set in your living room to the browser on your cellphone, and even the radio in your car. In short, we cannot escape the media since it has become a natural part of our everyday lives. This five letter word seems so insignificant, yet it is so powerful. Since we are in touch with media everywhere we go, we always seem to believe everything that is shown to us. Many things are shown in media but that does not necessarily mean that they are always true. There are times in which certain ethnic groups are falsely portrayed. An article from 1998 titled, No Chicanos on Tv by Cecilia Alvear, talks about the lack of diversity that one might find in the media. In this case, she mentions that Chicanos are hardly ever shown in the media and that when they are, it is not in a positive way. The scientists Alpher and Hermann deduced that before the recombination epoch, everything was plasma and the light rays would be continually scattered by the particles they encountered (protons, neutrons, electrons), because many particles were charged. The unique character of a blackbody spectrum is that the brightness temperature of a blackbody is the same at all wavelengths (this is why every wavelength in the CMB is 1 mm). Furthermore, in order to make a blackbody spectrum, an object has to be opaque, non reflective and isothermal. Thus a star, which is opaque, does not produce it because it has cooler outer layers and hotter deeper layers. Advantage Of Liberal Arts College For those who want to further their schooling in a way that focuses on undergraduate studies and creating a well rounded education a liberal arts college is the perfect opportunity to achieve a higher education. Some of the oldest liberal arts colleges in the United States date back to the 1600s. There are many advantages to studying at a liberal arts college. A liberal arts education can give students the opportunity to have a smaller environment and a well rounded education. The smaller environment that a liberal arts college provides to students is very helpful for a successful college experience. A smaller number of undergrad students enrolled into one s college translates to having smaller class sizes. Jessica Velasco explains, Average class sizes at liberal arts colleges are usually less than 30 students (Velasco, College Raptor). The transition from small high school classes to college is easier if the college classes are similar in size. This is especially helpful for students who have trouble focusing and learn best in smaller environments. It is easier to get help when necessary. Hand in hand with smaller class sizes is close relationships with professors. Velasco illustrates, Classes, including introductory courses, are taught by professors at liberal arts colleges... because each class is usually taught by a professor, this means they generally have the opportunity to spend more quality time with their students, getting to know them, evaluating and critiquing their work much more closely, and serving as mentors (Velasco, College Raptor). At most universities lecture classes have hundreds of students. At those institutions, it is nearly impossible to be on a first name basis with the professors. With a large number of students, there is often no time to build relationships. The small environment that liberal arts colleges pride themselves on allows easy access to professors. They are able to answer questions and personally help their students. Finally, many liberal arts colleges have many student activities to take part in. Liberal arts colleges usually have fewer student organizations and activities than larger universities, but participation tends to be higher, Velasco writes. Time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plato describes the prison as a dark cave. In the cave are people chained in front of a walkway facing the back wall of the cave. Behind the walkway, a large ball of fire casts shadows onto the back wall of the cave. Plato is telling this story to compare this fable to the reality of ignorant people being revealed to the truth. In The Wind Up Bird and Tuesday s Woman , the narrator receives a call from an anonymous woman. Although he first refuses to talk to the woman, he ends up having phone sex with her. Behavioural economics, as it is possible to understand from the definition of the field itself, studies how social and psychological factors influence economic decisions. The main difference with the classical economic approach is that, while economists use a normative approach in describing extit{how decisions should be made} to optimise a reward function, by assuming that subjects are rational decision makers citep{von2007theory}, behavioural economics describes extit{how decisions are actually made} by using experiments that emulate real life decision problems citep{kahneman2000choices, todd2003bounding}. This field of research has lead to the development of heuristics that subjects use in different choice context citep{holyoak2005cambridge}. However, these explanations only postulate disparate heuristics for different choice settings and cannot describe the time course of a decision. In an attempt to overcome such limitations, recently, sequential sampling models of choice widely studied in the perceptual decision making field, have been used to explain the time course of preference formation in value based choice in which the subject is no more integrating evidence over time, but value instead, as for example in making a decision between different sources of food. In fact, parents buy more gifts than previously because with the years the Ultramontane dogma [...] and commercialism would, little by little, help to impose December 25th as the main holiday, gradually shifting the focus of the holiday towards children . If parents don t shift around their behaviour, in the next generations the real signification of Christmas will be forgotten and traditions lost by lack of pursuing our religious traditions defining our ... • 36. Vietnam And Its Effects On The United States Vietnam was originally a French colony located in Indochina. After the end of the First Indochina War when the French were defeated by the Vietnamese in 1954, the French persisted to obtain their freedom. They sought to obtain it by signing the Geneva Peace Accords, granting freedom to most of the colonies but left Vietnam divided at the seventeenth parallel into two different states. The northern portion was controlled by the Vietnamese, while the south was controlled by France, later on by the United States. The Viet Minh, governed by Ho Chi Minh, however were determined to rule over all the territory surrounding its borders so elections were scheduled hopefully to reunite the country under a strict Communist government. The Communists had a good probability of winning the elections due to their superiority in organizations, but the United States did as much as possible to keep Communism out of the South and other regions prone to falling into it. As the new Superpowers emerged after the end of World War II, the challenge of maintaining authority over targeted territory remained, but it was completely challenged by getting involved in the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War, being one of the longest wars recorded in American History, was also marked as the first War that made the United States fail with their plans of eradicating Communism to secure land that could be run by an independent government. Additionally, this war was broadcast on television, which allowed people to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Porter s Generic Strategies Framework Introduction Porter s generic strategies framework constitutes a major contribution to the development of the strategic management literature. Generic strategies were first presented in two books by Professor Michael Porter of the Harvard Business School (Porter, 1980, 1985). Porter (1980, 1985) suggested that some of the most basic choices faced by companies are essentially the scope of the markets that the company would serve and how the company would compete in the selected markets. Competitive strategies focus on ways in which a company can achieve the most advantageous position that it possibly can in its industry (Pearson, 1999). The profit of a company is essentially the difference between its revenues and costs. Therefore high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Companies employ this strategy by focusing on the areas in a market where there is the least amount of competition (Pearson, 1999). Organisations can make use of the focus strategy by focusing on a specific niche in the market and offering specialised products for that niche. This is why the focus strategy is also sometimes referred to as the niche strategy (Lynch, 2003). Therefore, competitive advantage can be achieved only in the company s target segments by employing the focus strategy. The company can make use of the cost leadership or differentiation approach with regard to the focus strategy. In that, a company using the cost focus approach would aim for a cost advantage in its target segment only. If a company is using the differentiation focus approach, it would aim for differentiation in its target segment only, and not the overall market. This strategy provides the company the possibility to charge a premium price for superior quality (differentiation focus) or by offering a low price product to a small and specialised group of buyers (cost focus). Ferrari and Rolls Royce are classic examples of niche players in the automobile industry. Both these companies have a niche of premium products available at a premium price. Moreover, they have a small percentage of the worldwide market, which is a trait characteristic of niche players. The downside of the focus strategy, however, is that the niche characteristically is small and may not be significant or large ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Understand that individuals with disabilities have the same right as everyone else to take risks 1.2 Explain why, traditionally, people with disabilities have been discouraged or prevented from taking risks. In Social Care there is an accountability for the welfare of the individual, whether they are being cared for or enabled to be independent. The enabler has responsibility for the individual, and the Company that provides the service to the client has responsibility towards both the enabler and the individual. They are answerable to families, CQC, the local council, social care workers and the police. An individual, who has the mental capacity to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here we have an example of risk that was assessed, taken, and culminated uncomfortably. The customer left the premises quickly. Do I take the individual again another time? Or should we abandon all attempts to visit the cafe? It would be easier with two enablers, so one could find out information when the individual arrived at the premises, whilst the other enabler supported the individual. But there is no funding for 2 1 care. This leaves a situation where risk will always be present, but the skills of the enablers will hopefully grow as they learn ways of promoting positive behaviour in the community. 1.3 Describe the links between risk taking and responsibility, empowerment and social inclusion. Anybody who takes a full role in society takes risks: crossing the road, using a bus, driving a car, and talking to people they do not know. Risk may be physical (injury and accident), emotional (humiliation, sense of failure), or mental (stress). A person who is excluded from a group is disempowered. Inclusion is a strong and forceful need. Many people consider being part of a tribe, gang, clique or social group a necessary part of their life. Exclusion is disempowering. We are aware of bullying in schools, and the words still resound in my ears, You can t be part of our gang! With inclusion and empowerment comes the responsibility and consequences of taking part in society in a socially acceptable way. This is laid out in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
