Georgia OKeefe Black Iris Analysis
Description Black Iris is a 1926 painting by artist Georgia O Keefe. The painting is especially
notable for its monumental size and acute attention to detail, which in turn allowed O Keefe to
force[] the viewer to observe the small details that might otherwise be overlooked ( Black Iris ).
This attention is particularly focused on color and form, accentuating the gradation in the
flower from dark purples to light greys and pinks along with the iris s curvaceous shape. O
Keefe produced many similar immense paintings of flowers. Both Black Iris and O Keefe s
other flower works are ostensibly only a large scale portrayal of a flower meant to evoke
appreciation of the objects in nature that often go unnoticed and nothing more. Nonetheless, one
of the most common interpretations of the flowers, and especially Black Iris, is that they are
depictions of female genitalia (Ellis Petersen). Black Iris is said to contain highly evocative and
sensual overtones and a near eroticism (Widewalls Editorial). O Keefe met the interpretations of
works like Black Iris as erotic with vehement denials, stating: I made you take time to look at
what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower, you hung all your own
associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what
you think and see of the flower and I don t, those associations being that flowers themselves look
like female genitalia ( What do you see in Georgia O Keeffe s flowers? and Widewalls Editorial).
Some who agree with the erotic interpretation of Black Iris and O Keefe s other flowers see the
work as a reclamation of femininity and female sexuality, while others go even further in
identifying O Keefe in a lineage of art by queer women, claiming the work as part of a lesbian
tradition extending back to the eighteenth century ( What do you see ). Platonic Analysis If
reading Black Iris as a portrait of female genitalia disguised as flower, the work takes its place on
the second rung of the Ladder of Love. This second rung involves becoming a lover of all
beautiful bodies rather than just one because the beauty on any body whatever is akin to that on
any other body (Plato 210b). In Symposium,

Defining Characteristics of the Medieval, Renaissance,...

After the classical period the structure of society was a mess. After the trojan war the Medieval
period was the one to bring in the more civilized society. Having a more civilized structure
brought in new ideas and a more structured government. The base of the Medieval period was

Specifically, the term refers to the time when there was no Roman or Holy Roman emperor in

making the poetry very dark because there was no established government or established religion
until after the Dark Ages. There were many defining characteristics of the medieval period the

The Garifuna Migration
The Garifuna have survived through centuries of cultural oppression. From the beginning they were
marginalized by dominant forces. Although there are still difficulties, they have still been able to
keep their own identity. The music, especially traditional Punta and Punta Rock have created a way
to promote Garifunaculture and raise awareness of social problems worldwide. Music has always
been a way of communicating traditions, such as the honor of ancestors and a way of defining the
unique identity and values of their society, especially with the texts of the songs. The texts reflect
the influence of African heritage and syncretism with the indigenous culture. They displays the

For Garifuna s these racial categories are simple and do not encapsulate the massive complexity
of the hegemonic black and white binaries, for Garifunas being black means a whole range of
categories and in doing so many assumptions are dismantled. Moving to the United States has
made their assimilation process much easier because they get quickly adjusted to the American
Way of life. Living in places like New York City, they begin losing themselves as they shift away
from their own culture and begin adapting to the life of the dominant power and for many this
American Dream becomes an American Nightmare. Garifunas who are migrating back to their
homeland in Central America are bringing back the North American culture and way of life. The
older generations are seeing their culture slipping away form their hands. There are riches in the
Garifuna culture that many Garifuna s themselves do not see and it is not that they are rejecting
their culture but the problem lies in how consumed they are in the Ameirican way of life and
culture as they have no other alternative. The younger generations of Garifuna s born in the United
States do not know the language because they do not get the opportunity to learn it growing up as a
mentality of assimilation is instilled. However, the older

Comparison Of The Chrysanthemums And The White Quail
Compare and Contrast The Long Valley
Two characters, Elisa Allen and Mary Teller, struggle with the idea of being accepted into the
society of the 1930s. Women s rights were not fully accepted in the 1930s, and these two
characters were set in the common day view of men and women. In the 1930s, [Society has]
assigned to white women such roles as housewife, secretary, PTA chairman, and schoolteacher.
Black women can now be schoolteachers, too, but they are most prominently assigned to such
domestic roles as maid, cook, waitress, and babysitter (Chisholm 123). These assigned roles have
impacted women around the world, including the two characters in these short stories The
Chrysanthemums and The White Quail . Not being activists in women s rights, these women
conformed to society and lived their lives as any typical housewife in the 1930s. Their passions
and choices during this time affected their way of living and relationships. The two stories reflect
similarities of the women s love for gardening and lonely marriages, but also reflect their different
viewpoints on the world they live in.
The two housewives have a passionate love for gardening and bestow their love and appreciation
towards their gardens. In the twentieth century, gardening was advocated as beneficial to one s life
and family. In the New England Quarterly, the journal, Gardening as Women s Culture in Mary E.

Antisocial Media And Social Media
Antisocial Media
In our modern age, people live a fast paced life. Almost everything, it seems, is done by way of the
Internet. Many wonder what the effects this kind of lifestyle has on society. There is a debate
whether the internet has alienated us from families, society, and reality. Supporters of this debate
suggest that those addicted to the internet use it in place of reading, face to face conversations,
socializing, and in place of deeper thinking and brain analyzation processes. The other group
suggests that the information obtained on the internet gives on the ability to process more
information at a more rapid pace than book research. It can be argued that the internet is
overriding our ability to socialize with others, to read a good book to recognize tone, and our
ability to be captivated by the words and feel the emotions those words offer, but the internet, used
properly, has its place in our daily lives.
To be able to utilize information on the internet involves a great deal of rapid processing of
information that one must consider to be true or false, relevant or not, and if that information
presented that way is enough to make a decision on or if more information in needed. The
Cyberspace Generation has acquired the ability to become quicker thinkers, and better processors of
information thanks to the Internet. Although, it can be argued that this generation has become
more independent and socially isolated, reliant on text to express

The Jacksontery, By Shirley Jackson
People just blindly follow the past so that they will not have to deal with the critical thinking in the
present. The lottery was written in 1948. Shirley Jackson is well known for the lottery, we have
always lived in the castle, and the haunting of hill house. She commonly writes horror stories. The
most common theme in all her works depicts the roles of men and women, women being degraded.
The lotterypresents horror by having the normal seeming town full of people gathering together just
to end with them killing one of their fellow neighbors without reason. It degrades women because
the victim of the stoningis a woman and her husband shows her no sympathy. Jackson uses the
setting to symbolize the thought that this situation could happen... Show more content on

This is relating to the idea of the people stoning Tessie to death at the end after joking with her
while the lottery was taking place. Everything seems fine in the beginning then it ends horribly.
Jackson describes the ritual taking place an early June morning where everything was full of life,
the grass and the flowers. The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth
of a full summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely, and the grass was richly green
(Jackson). The created setting relates to how calm everyone is before the lottery. That is all the
information the reader is given about the setting because it emphasizes the fact that brutality can
take place in any time or any place ( The Lottery ). It makes the reader think of real life situations.
Jackson relates this annual ritual in the lottery to other ancient rituals with the time in which the
lottery is held. The time when it takes place is important because June 27, near the summer solstice,
one of the two days in a year when the earth is farthest from the sun. Many prehistoric rituals took
place on the summer solstice ( The Lottery ) so by the setting Jackson relates this tradition to other
ancient rituals. The author seems to suggest that the setting symbolizes the ritual or the

The newly appointed CEO, Scott Livengood, realized the problem with the sluggish sales was
because of the company s current strategy.
After becoming CEO, president, and chairman of the board in 1999, the company repositioned and
focused on being a specialty retailer rather than a wholesale bakery. Krispy Kreme wanted to give
their customers the hot doughnut experience they all knew and loved (Peter Donnelly, 2011). The
second part of their plan was to increase the number of stores both franchises, and company
owned nationally. The company began to move into other regions. For example, in 1996 the first
store in NY City was opened, and in 1999 the first store in California opened. In early 2000, the
company went public and merged into a new company called Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc.,
instead of Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation. From 2000 2004, the number of stores has
proliferated from 144 to 357 and Krispy Kreme is now beginning to open in international locations,
opening the first factory in London. They now also have locations in Canada, Mexico, and Australia.
SITUATION ANALYSIS
MARKET SUMMARY:
Krispy Kreme focuses on opening their stores in large, populated cities in the United States such as
Denver, Colorado, Rochester, New York, Medford, and Massachusetts. In 2000 2004 the company

Leonardo Da Vinci s Influence On Aviation
Flight Physics
Leonardo da Vinci improved our knowledge of flight by persisting and following his dreams
even though we still today have yet to comprehend the full meaning of flight and how it works.
Due to his never ceasing effort, we now have a vast variety of flying machines and thanks to his
passion to this impossible feat, it seems as if we can do anything when it comes to flight
Leonardo da Vinci was Famous for many things In his lifetime from painting the Mona Lisa to
making the first tank, But probably the most interesting and fascinating thing about him was his
view on aviation. he did many things to improve his knowledge of flight. he invented many things

leonardo s ideas and inventions of flight vividly show he wanted to soar. Yet did he know that
2000 years later his inventions will bring humans into this the vault of heaven. His parachute
was a major success as it is still being used today as a tool for the military and a source of
excitement! (5 things Leonardo da Vinci did to change the world, ZME Science, 2008) His
ornithopter influenced modern day planes and how they functioned. So in effect, if it was not
for da Vinci then the planes we know today wouldn t exist. Leonardo da Vinci was so far ahead
of his time, many of his creations came a little too early in history to be viewed as practical by
his contemporaries. For example, he was fascinated by the idea that technology could put the man
in flight. He designed an early hang glider that could have functioned had it ever been
constructed. Although he outlined the plans for the world s first helicopter, the machine could
not have flown as the propellers turned against the direction of the rotors. His inspirations led
him to design the world s first parachute. In the long run, leonardo da vinci did so much more
than just change the world of aviation for generations to come, he changed the world by leading
others to follow in his footsteps. Leonardo da Vinci is a prime example of inspiration, courage, and
creativity for just about anybody that has a goal in mind

2002 Dbq Analysis
There was more of an economic effect of the global flow of silver from 1570 1750 than socially.
It greatly affected the trade world because China would only trade in return for silver. It also
made South America a major part of the world trade system. The flow of silver caused inflation.
Inflation happens when the price rises faster than the wages. Silver also widened the gap of class
sizes in the Ming Dynasty.
A major economic effect of the flow of silver was changing the trade world. Spain had issues
since so much of their primary good traded was brought out to be traded. China changed who
they traded with based on who had silver. Tomas de Mercado wrote a book called Manual of Deals
and Contracts. He wrote about how Spain was ruined because everyone wanted Chinese goods so
the silver flew out of Spain to pay for it. The streets ... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wang Xijue writes in a report to the emperor about the reason grain is so cheap. The price is so
low because there is hardly any silver in the area to trade with. As he said, The national
government requires silver for taxes but disburses little silver in its expenditures. (doc. 3) Inflation
was also shown in the report to the emperor written by He Qiaoyuan. The report describes how
since China will only accept silver in exchange for goods, it makes goods from China more and
more expensive as they get traded farther away, Chinese silk yarn worth 100 bars of silver can be
sold in the Philippines at a price of 200 or 300 bars of silver there. (doc. 7) The point of view in this
document is from someone who is trying to repeal the ban on foreign trade. If they get rid of the
ban, China can make a lot more money since their products are so desired. These examples show
that there is too much silver going into China and not enough coming out. They also explain how
people in China are affected due to the scarcity of silver in their towns. Inflation affected the

Theories Of The Nazca Lines
The Mysteries of the Nazca Lines The Nazca Lines discovered in 1939, by Paul Kosok, are
gigantic drawings that cover the Nazca Desert in southern Peru ( The Nazca Lines , web). It is
said that the Nazca people are the creators of these lines, but when the Nazca people and their
culture vanished the Lines were the only things left behind. Today, many historians and
archaeologists are left with this Desert riddle. There are many theories concerning the Nazca Lines
and their origin, what they could possibly mean and who put them there. There are no exact
answers but these theories and ideas have provided many possibilities that have brought historians
closer to solving the mystery. Although theories of the NazcaDesert drawings include... Show more

These theories are the ones that are supported by much evidence and provides a reasonable
explanation to the mysterious meaning of the lines. In the Nazca Desert, water is a scarce
resource, but necessary for their overall survival. The solution could have been performing these
rituals to ask the Gods for rain. A video by UNESCO explaining some background of the Nazca
Lines suggests, Experts believe the Nazca used to dance along the lines of the geoglyphs when
they prayed for rain, ( Lines and Geoglyphs of Nazca and Pampas de Jumana (UNESCO/NHK) ,
web). The dancing of the natives could have been part of a ritual to plead for water. This was a
very important part in their everyday lives because it was their way of communicating with the
Gods and telling them what it is that they needed to be able to continue. Some of the geoglyphs
drawn are the killer whale, spider, monkey, condor and hummingbird. All of these animals are
linked to water and are important for the Nazca people. The theory of the lines being linked to
water is the most probable that even in other theories like the astronomy ones can be brought back
to having some thing to do with water. The ideas that Maria Reiche and Paul Kosok studied about
an astronomical calendar can be refined to agricultural clock, as mentioned in Archaeology, The
sun enters this region of the horizon at the time of year late October when water beings to run in
the rivers and their underground canals. If builders of the Nazca Lines had intended to incorporate
an orientation calendar into their complex maze of lineation, we would logically expect not the
solstices or equinoxes to be prominent in the plan, but rather the most significant times in the
agricultural year to be indicated, just as they are at Cuzco, (Aveni, 39). Eventually, it is revealed in
some theories that water has a massive significance to the meaning and

Questions 1 3, 5, 6a,d e: 1) Calcite and halite share many similarities such as being white to
transparent, having three cleavage points, and also has roughly the same hardness (calcite has a
hardness of three whereas halite has a hardness of 2.5). However, there are also some ways to
differentiate between the two. One way to do this, although it is not highly recommended to do
this without proper identification, is to taste it. Halite has a salty taste since it is salt. Another
way to know what mineral is calcite and which mineral is halite is by looking at their cleavage
points. Calcite has rhombohedral cleavage planes (75В°) while Halite has a cubic cleavage point
(90В°). 2) A mineral that was challenging to identify was potassium feldspar.... Show more content

This describes graphite, but doesn t speak of any quantities or statistics. To make this observation
more quantitative, I could relate this information to the hardness scale. The hardness scale states
that a fingernail has a hardness of 2.5. From this, I can conclude that graphite has a hardness less
than 2.5 since harder objects scratch softer objects. 5) An observation is something that you can
look at and record. Observations can be qualitative and quantitative data. Inferences, however, are
conclusion that can be made using observations and your prior knowledge. For example, a person
might note that iodine becomes purple when put on a potato chip. From this, we can infer that the

Character Analysis Of Femme Fatale
Her duplicitous nature is confirmed after her husband s death. She acts very jumpy and flustered.
Once questions about his death are asked, she lies. She even drags Gittes to be a part of her lies;
successfully manipulating both, the police and Gittes. During the mourning period, it is then
revealed that she was also cheating on her husband, further demonstrating as deceitful character.
Soon after, while she is assisting Gittes investigate her husband s death, she seduces him, and then
leaves him due a suspicious call. When confronted, she lies once again, and tries to act as a
helpless woman crying, in need of a strong male to rescue her. All these actions, portray Evelyn as

Women were not only householders but providers. This change conflicted with the traditional
woman. But as the war ended, men returned home, and women were pushed back into the
households. This piece of history plays an essential role in how the women were presented in the
film noir. Hollywood offers a progressive representation of those working women who went back
quietly. The femme fatale took the strength of independence during the war. The women were then
portrayed as cold and cruel, directly reflecting upon the sour truth of the reality the unfair treatment
the women. Both Phyllis and Brigid were manipulative, controlling, and powerful women;
consistently depicting the irony.
Moreover, the time period of 1960s and 70s, was the period of women s liberation and feminism.
At the same time, the country was also experiencing the post Watergate world. So, the movie
Chinatown, presents both those aspects of the society. Polanski strongly emphasizes on the
corruption and complexities of the dark society throughout the movie, while remaining true to the
character of Evelyn. Women in this time period are no longer illustrated as strong and cold, but
rather independent and dehumanized. Clearly, it still made woman dangerous, but more liberated.
This is the main reason behind why Evelyn is shown as a soft femme fatale character. She is
dangerous and possess all the qualities of the femme fatale, but she has a reason behind her actions.

character, Sharon. I have stumbled upon a flash drive that was owned by the children and decided
to share it with you.
Document #1: Jacob s Journal Today we traveled to a new location, meeting many interesting
people. Emma and Addison have been talking on and on about how this is a bad idea, not that I
don t agree, but I want to see what we can find. Emma has been getting a little angry since we
have not yet found the others, but when I comfort her she calms down. We have had many good
talks and I hope we continue to communicate well. We have caught the trail of the hollows and
currently have been following it through the heart of the dreaded city. Sharon has been taking us
through secret tunnels all day and I am glad we can finally see the sky. We are all... Show more

We finally caught the mischievous peculiar kids. They have been escaping us for days now and we
finally caught them. Although the other two kids got away I am happy. Those dumb kids fell
right into our trap and so will the other two in short time. They have no brains when it comes to
us. On another good note we successfully took 12 peculiar souls out today and installed them
into the hollows. Hopefully this new formula will pay off for us. We have been working so hard
and it is finally the time of the wights! Peculiar after peculiar we are at a grand total of 143 now
and counting. Though there should not be many left since we have raided almost all of the loops.
We also caught all of the headmistresses! No one can survive now; we are dominating the kingdom
and are the new rulers. Oh happy

Does Lyddie Sign The Petition
Have you ever wondered what it s like to work in a factory? Imagine dust, lint, smoke, and noise
all in one crowded room. This is what Lyddie Worthen in the book, Lyddie, by Katherine
Paterson has to face. Lyddie has faced many hardships when working in the factory. Lyddie is a
young girl who is sent off to work to pay the debts for her family. Lyddie was fired from her first
job and went to Lowell, Massachusetts to be a factory girl. When working, there are poor working
conditions. Other workers have started a petition to improve the working conditions. Lyddie should

Lyddie is struggling to breathe and is exhausted. This leads some to say that she must sign the
petition. However, signing the petition could get her fired which will make it almost impossible to
reunite back with her family. When talking to her roommates, Lyddie shares her own opinion on
signing the petition. When talking, her roommates mention that if you sign the petition they
wouldn t have to work longer. She says, But we d be paid less (Paterson 91). This quote shows
that signing the petition can decrease her payment which would make it even longer to reunite with
her family. When Betsy finishes reading to Lyddie they talk about what they heard lately.
Unfortunately, Lyddie has the possibility of getting blacklisted (Paterson 81). This quote shows
that if she gets fired for signing the petition she could get blacklisted, which means that no other
mills would hire her. Being blacklisted makes it difficult to reunite back with her family. It s tough

Symptoms And Treatment Of Infant Respiratory Distress...
Overview of Disease
Each day there are thousands of babies born, and families wait for their new loved ones to enter
the world. However, there are also many complications that may occur with child birth.
Approximately 50% of neonates born at 26 28 weeks gestation develop respiratory distress
syndrome, whereas less than 30% of premature neonates born at 30 31 weeks gestation develop the
condition (MedScape). Infant Respiratory Distress Syndrome, or IRDS for short, is a restrictive
lung disease that commonly occurs in premature babies. A common cause is a lack of surfactant
that is commonly found in developed lungs. Surfactant is a liquid that uses proteins and lipids to
help decrease the surface tension between the alveoli to create ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
Pathophysiology
When premature babies are born they do not have fully developed lungs because the lungs are
one of the last organs in the body to be produced. The alveoli in the baby s lungs have not yet
started making surfactant, which is typically produced when the baby is 34 36 weeks gestation.
When the alveoli do not have surfactant, the alveoli want to naturally collapse. Surfactant helps to
keep the alveoli open and create more surface area for gas exchange. If you were to look at the
infant s lungs using a microscope, you can see that lungs look as though they are solid from the
areas where the alveoli have collapsed, also known as atelectasis. To try to compensate for the
atelectasis, the respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts, and some of the alveoli dilate to decrease
airway resistance and increase gas exchange (Jardins 476). As the disease worsens, the walls of the
alveoli become lined with a hyaline membrane that is made up of dead cells and proteins that make
it nearly impossible for gas exchange to occur. It makes the lungs stiff and much harder to ventilate.
With the lungs being noncompliant, the baby starts to become hypoxic. When the infant becomes
hypoxic, blood is shunted away from the other organs in the body and venous return and cardiac
output are decreased. Hypoxemia is common in pulmonary hypertension (PH) and may be partly
related to ventilation/perfusion mismatch, low diffusion

Wound Cleaning Research Paper
When the majority of the wound is not covered by necrotic tissue (at least 75%) our treatment
should be focused on selective debridement. With this type of removal we will only be working
with the necrotic tissue. Depending on the physicians order we may use this in our treatment.
Another important aspect is woundcleansing. Every time the dressing is changed they should clean
the wound. We should avoid using hydrogen peroxide, soap, povidone iodine because they could
damage the healing process. The recommended solutions are water (drinkable tap or sterile) and
normal saline. We should also consider using syringe irrigation to apply the solution. Finally,
wound moisture is another important aspect we would need to take into consideration.

A spokeswoman for Societe Generale said the EUR 4.9 billion award was a symbolic sum that
the bank did not expect to be paid but it recognizes that the entirety of the losses are attributed to
Jerome Kerviel s actions. The bank, however, was not absolved of responsibility. A line from the
ruling reads: The lack of vigilance by the bank in monitoring the only existing limits, acting as alert
signs, hardly exempted JГ©rГґme Kerviel from his duty to inform his hierarchy of the reality of
his excesses or to come back within the limits imposed. In this case, the prosecution had the
ability to prove each one of the charges. Breach of trust is defined as any act which is in violation
of the duties or a trustee or of the terms of a trust and while breach need not be intentional or with
malice, it can be due to negligence. In this case, Kerviel breached this trust when he traded past his
trading limits. While it was an intentional violation of their trading policies, he did not do this out
of disdain for the bank but out of the sheer excitement of trading those types of volumes. Forgery is
the process of making, adapting, or imitating documents (or other objects) with the intent to
deceive. This encompasses all of the charges related to forgery that Kerviel was convicted under
including fictitious transactions and falsifying

How Does Religion Affect Australian Society
Religion is a pivotal aspect in society to date with a diverse array of religions known to be
practised in Australia, creating opportunities to embrace individuality though also sparking social
divisions. French sociologist, Emile Durkheim described religion as a unified system of beliefs
and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say, things set apart and forbidden beliefs and
practices which unite into one single moral community (Jones, 2011). So how does religion
influence Australian society? With a vast incline in religions practised in Australia, it is extremely
feasible to presume that it does affect Australia significantly. It is through cultural diversity, morality
and ethics and laws in which the true relevance of religion in Australian society can be identified.
Religion has had an extensive influence on Australian society in regards to cultural diversity. With
the implementation of a government policy in the 1970s introducing multiculturalism, this has seen
a vast increase in the acceptance of diverse cultures into Australia. This not only created a coherent
society but also allowed people to experience different religious beliefs and the cultural practises
which stem from this. As identified in the 2011 Census, Christianity is one of the most practised
religions in Australia where 61% of the population were affiliated with Christianity according to
Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2012. This is followed by 22.3% ... Show more content on

This is mostly true. Many events lead to the cause of the colonies uniting, fear being a major
part. When the US bought Alaska from Russia, the British North Americans were separating two

the US would enter the colonies with their army. Britain s concern began to grow as the future for

Hollywood Is Like A Battle
Maggie Quigley, a 29 year old Asian/ White Actress, told Associated Press that competition for
roles in Hollywood is like a battle. Even with her roles beside many top tier actors and actresses,
she believes that It s a struggle. You got to win roles. You really got to fight for them. When I
left Asia and went to the U.S., essentially I was starting over. It s very hard...The first part of it is
going into a room (for an audition) and trying to quell this stigma that people have about Asians
only doing certain kinds of roles and Asians only being looked at a certain way, Quigley said. You

So the one Asian guy in Star Wars disintegrates on an Imperial Starship. Just like how Asians are
stereotyped daily on their driving. But it is not just under representation, Hollywood is actually
giving away roles to white people that should be for Asians; the term is called white washing .
Apparently there is some belief in Hollywood that Asian leads just will not be understood by
American public.
For example, the movie 21. The movie is based on a true story about a group of MIT students led
by John Chang and focusing on player Jeff Ma. They used card counting to win a fortune in
blackjack. Yet Hollywood finds it boring. No one would want to watch two Asians playing
blackjack. Why not make the cast almost all white and add sex and drinking? And that is what they
literally did.
Most members of the team were Asian males, but you wouldn t know that from watching the
movie. The author of the nonfiction story that inspired the film, Ben Mezrich, told an audience of
MIT students that early on in the moviemaking process, studio executives told him most of the
film s actors would be white, with perhaps an Asian female. This is consistent with Hollywood s
larger trend. (Scherker) I mean that is crazy! That was a real story based on real people and they
just said Ah, we do not want to cast Asians. Let us just make them white.

Employee Rights in the Workplace
Abstract Our world of technological advances is growing day by day. So much so, in fact, that
new laws are created to help determine the legal responsibilities and actions to be taken if an
incident occurs. The advantages and disadvantages of monitoring and being monitored will be
discussed. Some of the laws that represent the employer and employee as well as why an
employer would want to monitor an employee will also are discussed. Although employee
monitoring is beneficial to an employer for a variety of reasons, it is better for an employer to
leave an employees private life away from the workplace private.

(В¶6) A second reason would be to track the amount of time an employee spends away from the
computer or how long the employees computer is idle. (В¶6).
If we, as employees put ourselves in the employer s shoes, we would want to know if our
employees were being productive for the job that they were hired to do. If someone were to
perform a search on the Internet for employee monitoring tools, he or she would find that the
market is flooded with these types of tools. In 1993, there were an estimated 27 million worldwide
employees being monitoring in the workplace and that number is still growing (В¶8).
Advantages and Disadvantages of Monitoring Some of the advantages of employee monitoring
are that email use can be limited, viruses can be prevented from corrupting company computer
systems, inappropriate acts and uses of language can be intercepted before any harm is done,
and companies can stop leaks of proprietary information. Some of the disadvantages of employee
monitoring are, as stated earlier, an employees feeling of lack of trust, a feeling of no privacy at
work, and the possibility of employers being sued by employees for fear that their privacy has
been violated. One type of violation that can occur happened to a Massachusetts college secretary
while she was changing clothes in a place she thought was safe. (Kitchen, 2006). She felt violated
because her boss never informed her that she was being videotaped.

Stock Market Game The first step when partaking in any type of a game is to decide what one s
strategy will be. The strategy that I had to determine was what my investment philosophy was

relatively low rates of return. Another investment philosophy is moderate also known as risk
indifference, this means one accepts some risk as they seek capital gains through slow and

The Financial Crisis Of The Fiscal Crisis
The 2007 2008 financial crisis is seen as one of the biggest failure of risk management. This is the
reason why it has been described it as a credit tsunami.
The aim here is to look at the state in which the financial market is at the moment after being hit by
the 2007 2008 financial Crisis. The first part of this report introduces some key issues that have
affected the confidence in the banking sector and its importance in the banking sector. The second
part will provide explanations on how to restore confidence.
Confidence is very vital in the banking sector.
The 07 08 financial crisis known as credit crunch as led the confidence in the banking sector to a
dramatic fall. Evidences have been proved for example with customers redrawing their deposit
form banks like northern rock.
As mentioned by Gerard Caprio (2005), a crisis always lives citizens cautious with their savings in
the banking sector. Mistrust or lack of trust has led to the failure of banks like Northern Rock and
Lehman Brothers.
Why has confidence been dented?
Finding the way to promote confidence is very important because it will be the key to prevent or
avoid another financial crisis. A recent study has shown that bankers were making decision without
knowing the securities of treasuries they were buying. Instead of basing everything on credit
worthiness, banks were more focus on interpersonal and individual relations (Ingves, 2014).
The first problem was with the customer behaviour. Banks are

What is the meaning of trust? What does it take for a person to fully, unconditionally trust a

engine, using for improving the burning efficiency, due to high flame speed and higher calorific
value during combustion of hydrogen. One of the best utilization alternatives of this clean energy,
existing in the hydrogen, would be through the process of electrolysis of water as it is a relatively
simple process without generated solid, liquid or gas waste which would be harmful to the
environment. Furthermore it helps in the reducing of the consumption of fossil fuels. According to
Al Rousan (2010), the HHO gas produced in the electrolytic reactor, can be injected into internal

Syntax And Syntax Of Language
The syntactic theory or syntax of language dates back in history in the 1950s by Chomsky (Math
una, 2009). The word syntax is derived from the Greek word syntaxis , meaning together and
sequence . The term is used for the way in which words are put together in an orderly system to
form phrases or sentences (Allahabad, 2010). Therefore, for the non expert, word order is the most
remarkable thing about syntax(Bickerton, 2009). In fact, you could debate that word order is a
secondary symptom, necessitated by the fact that we have only a single channel of speech, forcing
words to be produced in a total order, and that word order falls out merely from reading the terminal
nodes of a hierarchical tree structure. The most vital thing about... Show more content on

I live in the county 62 and work in county eight. By virtue of living the culture and the classes I
take, it seems there is a disparity. Leaving me feel there is something askew. It is not in keeping
with the results of other tools that I have completed.
The positive side of having such a dismal result to the cultural assessment is a rich bibliography of
resources divided into categories. Some articles are familiar and some are new. The spiritual and
ethical areas suggested for expanding my knowledge include:
Identifying and engaging key cultural informants within diverse communities
Querying key cultural informants regarding values, beliefs, and practices of community members
as they relate to religiosity and spirituality, practitioner credibility, health, health care, illness and
well being
These are the key points taken from that review. My plan to address these is to utilize the videos
listed in the bibliography first. I will include one video a month beginning March 25, 2010. As I
review research protocols developed by professors at the local universities which focus on minority
or special need populations, I will use that opportunity to glean information from the literature
review, study plan and active engagement with the investigator to expand my knowledge beginning
February 25, 2010. The ethical considerations associated with vulnerable populations require
additional protections to ensure the study participants are not exploited

Summary of The Book of Habakkuk Essay
It is believed that the book of Habakkuk was written to Judah around the year 606 B.C., as
Nineveh no longer exists, so it has to have been written some time after Nahum. There is nothing
known about this prophet outside of this book, and it is believed that Habakkuk wrote the book
himself, but it is uncertain. His name means embraced or could even be the name of an Assyrian
flower. Also known as the prophet of the watchtower, he was one of the last prophets to write
before the Babylonian captivity. Habakkuk was not written to prophecy to Judah or Israel about
their destruction, but was written as if to God, with Habakkuk asking Him questions. Among the
complaints and questions that Habakkuk brings to God, the most prevalent is this:... Show more

However, God s punishment for the Chaldeans is coming, as we see. Woe to him who covets evil
gain for his house...for the stone will cry out from the wall, and the beam from the timbers will
answer it . Covetousness is a major problem for most men, back in that time as well as today, but
seeking to gain things through evil and wicked methods is even worse. The Chaldeans seek to
expand their kingdom through evil methods and wicked actions, and yet the things that they
have gained are not to last. Eventually their kingdom will crumble, and they will cease to be a
mighty nation. Woe to him who builds a town with bloodshed...for the earth will be filled with
the knowledge of the glory of The Lord, as the waters cover the sea. The saying He who lives by
the sword, will die by the sword. comes to mind right now as we see that because the Chaldeans
build themselves up with bloodshed and murder, the whole world will witness the glory of The
Lord, and will see His power brought against them. They are an unnecessarily bloody nation, and
because of this, I guess you could say they they will soon become an even more bloody nation as
they face the wrath of God. Woe to him who says to wood, Awake! to silent stone Arise! It shall
teach! behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, yet in it there is no breath at all. But The Lord is
in His holy temple. Let all

Why Is Homework Important To Me
Though these times were considered the ugly years for a few, this was not so for me. The
classes were simple. The teachers were nice to communicate with. There was also plenty of time
to spend with family. In my middle school career, I worked, but there was plenty of time have a
day of watching television without falling behind or watering the garden for two hours because I
didn t have any homework.
In middle school, I rarely had homework to take home. There was Pre Algebra to do, but I could
accomplish that the first hour that I was home and have plenty of time to spare and do as I
please. In Mr. Deering s class, I loved many of the books we read and loved listening to him read
the book to us. He was incredible at storytelling, so everyone was quiet, or we watched tv shows
or movies such as: Courageous, National Treasure, or The Twilight Zone. I also had Mrs. Salter
for English, I sat next to her and listen to the commentary she would add to books such as: ... Show

The other amount of time was spent outdoors doing work as well, but the other work was not
hard either. I loved ground spraying with a four wheeler for musk thistles and picking up rocks
to create a bridge into the creek. These times enabled opportunities to listen to music and sing
along, however loudly and off key I had wanted. I also loved watering the garden, due to it gave
time to myself and enjoy the beauty of nature. Other kids did not understand how this was fun,
but I didn t care. I enjoyed it and that s what was important. I also loved spending quality time
with family. When it was dark, the entire family would be inside watching a movie. It didn t
matter if we had seen the movie a week before, because we were together. We d eat popcorn and
occasionally have pop if it was left in the kitchen. These were the fun years with every all at the
same school and all ride home together even though it took forever before we d arrived

Infiniti Cheat Sheet
Infiniti s largest and most luxurious sedan.
Lacking a true full size luxury sedan, Infiniti comes closest with the Q70L, a stretched wheelbase
version of its midsize Q70 sedan. Infiniti s largest sedan offers an extra five inches between the
wheels, delivering a roomy rear compartment rivaling certain limousine like models.
Yet, the Q70L is about four to five inches shorter overall and some three or four inches narrower
than the big guys. Thus, its direct competitors include the BMW 5 Series, Lexus GS, Cadillac CTS,
Mercedes Benz E Class, Genesis G80, Volvo S90 and the Audi A6. Larger sedanssuch as the BMW
7 Series, Lexus LS, Mercedes Benz S Class, Genesis G90, and the Audi A8 fall just outside of that
range.
Lucky for me it was the stretched ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A curved panel hood adds a sporty touch. The center stack comes topped with chrome trim, while
a color display sits in a recess directly beneath. Just below that is an analog clock situated above a
panel of buttons and knobs for controlling the infotainment and climate control systems. Yes, this
model still has a CD player and that s something that made this driver happy.
Between the seats is the transmission shift stick, along with heating and cooling knobs and the
drive select knob. Chrome plating provides an elegant touch for that surface. A deep storage
compartment doubling as an armrest is also present. You ll find USB ports and a 12 volt outlet
inside.
Other touches include generous use of leather covering the seats, wrapping the steering wheel, and
dressing the door inlays. Happily, plastic is not commonly found anywhere. All other materials are
of the soft touch variety.
As for the rear seat, three can sit in a pinch, but that area is most comfortable for two. Drop the
middle armrest in place and you ll find two drink holders, a pair of heated seat switches, and a
sizable storage compartment. You ll also find the armrest supplies pass through access to the

E Commerce Engaging With Physical Stores
And there are more examples of e commerce engaging with physical stores. Such as, a few months
ago, Amazon opened the first physical store in the US. At the same time, Google has opened its
Google shop, online furniture retailer Made.com has been opening showrooms to display their
products. This has proved the online web and the physical stores are actually beneficial to each
other.
Methodology
This research paper will involve the use of qualitative approach as the main research methodology.
This is a common case study method, which provides a clear vision on related implication of the
research topic to researcher (Kondracki Wellman, 2002). Besides, the data in this method depends
on human experience and this will be more persuasive and powerful than only data gathered via
quantitative research. The reason to apply qualitative case study tool in this study due to its
flexibility of use and also its ability, which allows the researcher to express their ideas and thoughts
in the within context of the research (Maxwell. 2005).
The study involves both primary and secondary research in order to have a clear vision on the
research question. Secondary data will be collected from Tesco Inc. such as the sales, the number
of visiting customers in different period. And the primary data will be conducted in two ways, on
site visit and online questionnaire. The methodology being used in this study has also bring up a
lot of challenges. First, as the paper is studying on a

Fahrenheit 451 Deuteragonism Analysis
The protagonist and deuteragonist in Fahrenheit 451 are introduced as having opposing views on
society. Montague, the main character is initially shown to be a conforming individual. This is
confirmed by the mention that for him It was a pleasure to burn ... a special pleasure to see things
eaten, to see things blackened and changed (Bradbury 1). The description shows that the
protagonist felt no sense of guilt for his actions and that he believed that there was nothing wrong
with what he was doing. The deuteragonist, on the other hand, is shown to be an open minded
individual. Her objectivity of thought is clearly demonstrated by the conversation she has with
Montague. Statements such as Do you ever read any of the books you bum? ... Is it

Tolerance As Defined By Merriam Webster
On Tolerance Tolerance, as defined by Merriam Webster, is willingness to accept feelings,
habits, or beliefs that are different from your own. Tolerance is something one must work at to
maintain for acceptance of others is not inherent to human nature or at least it does not seem to
be, for the most part. It is, however, human nature to see anyone unfamiliar and different as other
. Due to human nature, I am rarely, if ever, surprised by some of the remarks I come across in my
daily life, especially from my peers. Occasionally, though, I am very disappointed and surprised
by people I respect. My father, on a clear winter morning, devastated my pure view of his wisdom
with a singular comment. He said, The mess these black people in Detroit are in is what they
deserve. All of them are hooligans and hood rats. There is no way to save Detroit with so many
black people there. All I could do was nod my head and stay silent while inside all I felt was
shock. I had never heard my father make a comment so prejudiced before and had believed him
to be a tolerant man of all groups of people. He had grown up in Detroit, gone into the navy and
seen the world through it, had received a college education, and worked at a steady job where he
met all sorts of different people. Through knowing this, I had thought him to be the picture of a
tolerant American who knew differences existed but accepted them. In my mind, my view of
tolerance had changed in that moment because of his

A Child Is Mysterious and Powerful
Within the child lies the fate of the future. Whoever wishes to confer some benefit on society must
preserve him from deviation and observe his natural ways acting. A child is mysterious and
powerful and contains within himself the secret of human nature.
Explain the above quote with reference to the Montessori philosophy.
The term Montessori Philosophy originated from the name of Dr. Maria Montessori, one of the
most influential pioneers in early childhood education. She advised an education which combines a
philosophy with a practical approach based on the central idea of freedom for the child within a
carefully planned and structured environment. To analyze the above quote, we will have to know

Thus it is said that The child is endowed with unknown powers which can guide us to a radiant
future. (The Absorbent Mind ,P2)
During the observation of children at Casa Dei Bambini, Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that
children prefer work to play. They were able to achieve a self integration through this work. She
found that the aggressive and destructive children became calm and peaceful after working with the
materials. She concluded that through work the child seemed to get fulfillment of some internal
need which made him normalized.
Montessori found out that independence is necessary to the child s normal development. The child
uses his independence to listen to his inner guide for actions that can be useful to him and one who
is served is actually limited in his independence. It is well said that we habitually serve children;
and this is not only an act of servility towards them but it is dangerous, since it tends to suffocate
their useful, spontaneous activity. (Course manual P.40).
We can help the child attain independence by giving opportunity for him to work with the
materials by himself, by directing him towards a given end to develop his will, by giving him
constructive work to help him in developing discipline, by letting him know and have an
understanding of what is good and bad and also giving him freedom to reveal himself completely
by playing only passive role.
Maria Montessori stated that at certain stages

  • 2. Georgia OKeefe Black Iris Analysis Description Black Iris is a 1926 painting by artist Georgia O Keefe. The painting is especially notable for its monumental size and acute attention to detail, which in turn allowed O Keefe to force[] the viewer to observe the small details that might otherwise be overlooked ( Black Iris ). This attention is particularly focused on color and form, accentuating the gradation in the flower from dark purples to light greys and pinks along with the iris s curvaceous shape. O Keefe produced many similar immense paintings of flowers. Both Black Iris and O Keefe s other flower works are ostensibly only a large scale portrayal of a flower meant to evoke appreciation of the objects in nature that often go unnoticed and nothing more. Nonetheless, one of the most common interpretations of the flowers, and especially Black Iris, is that they are depictions of female genitalia (Ellis Petersen). Black Iris is said to contain highly evocative and sensual overtones and a near eroticism (Widewalls Editorial). O Keefe met the interpretations of works like Black Iris as erotic with vehement denials, stating: I made you take time to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower, you hung all your own associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what you think and see of the flower and I don t, those associations being that flowers themselves look like female genitalia ( What do you see in Georgia O Keeffe s flowers? and Widewalls Editorial). Some who agree with the erotic interpretation of Black Iris and O Keefe s other flowers see the work as a reclamation of femininity and female sexuality, while others go even further in identifying O Keefe in a lineage of art by queer women, claiming the work as part of a lesbian tradition extending back to the eighteenth century ( What do you see ). Platonic Analysis If reading Black Iris as a portrait of female genitalia disguised as flower, the work takes its place on the second rung of the Ladder of Love. This second rung involves becoming a lover of all beautiful bodies rather than just one because the beauty on any body whatever is akin to that on any other body (Plato 210b). In Symposium, ... The older generations are seeing their culture slipping away form their hands. There are riches in the Garifuna culture that many Garifuna s themselves do not see and it is not that they are rejecting their culture but the problem lies in how consumed they are in the Ameirican way of life and culture as they have no other alternative. • 5. Comparison Of The Chrysanthemums And The White Quail Compare and Contrast The Long Valley Two characters, Elisa Allen and Mary Teller, struggle with the idea of being accepted into the society of the 1930s. Women s rights were not fully accepted in the 1930s, and these two characters were set in the common day view of men and women. In the 1930s, [Society has] assigned to white women such roles as housewife, secretary, PTA chairman, and schoolteacher. Black women can now be schoolteachers, too, but they are most prominently assigned to such domestic roles as maid, cook, waitress, and babysitter (Chisholm 123). These assigned roles have impacted women around the world, including the two characters in these short stories The Chrysanthemums and The White Quail . Not being activists in women s rights, these women conformed to society and lived their lives as any typical housewife in the 1930s. Their passions and choices during this time affected their way of living and relationships. The two stories reflect similarities of the women s love for gardening and lonely marriages, but also reflect their different viewpoints on the world they live in. The two housewives have a passionate love for gardening and bestow their love and appreciation towards their gardens. In the twentieth century, gardening was advocated as beneficial to one s life and family. In the New England Quarterly, the journal, Gardening as Women s Culture in Mary E. • 7. Antisocial Media And Social Media Antisocial Media In our modern age, people live a fast paced life. Almost everything, it seems, is done by way of the Internet. Many wonder what the effects this kind of lifestyle has on society. There is a debate whether the internet has alienated us from families, society, and reality. Supporters of this debate suggest that those addicted to the internet use it in place of reading, face to face conversations, socializing, and in place of deeper thinking and brain analyzation processes. The other group suggests that the information obtained on the internet gives on the ability to process more information at a more rapid pace than book research. It can be argued that the internet is overriding our ability to socialize with others, to read a good book to recognize tone, and our ability to be captivated by the words and feel the emotions those words offer, but the internet, used properly, has its place in our daily lives. To be able to utilize information on the internet involves a great deal of rapid processing of information that one must consider to be true or false, relevant or not, and if that information presented that way is enough to make a decision on or if more information in needed. The Cyberspace Generation has acquired the ability to become quicker thinkers, and better processors of information thanks to the Internet. The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely, and the grass was richly green (Jackson). The created setting relates to how calm everyone is before the lottery. After becoming CEO, president, and chairman of the board in 1999, the company repositioned and focused on being a specialty retailer rather than a wholesale bakery. Krispy Kreme wanted to give their customers the hot doughnut experience they all knew and loved (Peter Donnelly, 2011). The second part of their plan was to increase the number of stores both franchises, and company owned nationally. The company began to move into other regions. For example, in 1996 the first store in NY City was opened, and in 1999 the first store in California opened. So in effect, if it was not for da Vinci then the planes we know today wouldn t exist. Leonardo da Vinci was so far ahead of his time, many of his creations came a little too early in history to be viewed as practical by his contemporaries. For example, he was fascinated by the idea that technology could put the man in flight. He designed an early hang glider that could have functioned had it ever been constructed. Although he outlined the plans for the world s first helicopter, the machine could not have flown as the propellers turned against the direction of the rotors. His inspirations led him to design the world s first parachute. • 14. 2002 Dbq Analysis There was more of an economic effect of the global flow of silver from 1570 1750 than socially. It greatly affected the trade world because China would only trade in return for silver. It also made South America a major part of the world trade system. The flow of silver caused inflation. Inflation happens when the price rises faster than the wages. Silver also widened the gap of class sizes in the Ming Dynasty. A major economic effect of the flow of silver was changing the trade world. Spain had issues since so much of their primary good traded was brought out to be traded. Theories Of The Nazca Lines The Mysteries of the Nazca Lines The Nazca Lines discovered in 1939, by Paul Kosok, are gigantic drawings that cover the Nazca Desert in southern Peru ( The Nazca Lines , web). It is said that the Nazca people are the creators of these lines, but when the Nazca people and their culture vanished the Lines were the only things left behind. Today, many historians and archaeologists are left with this Desert riddle. There are many theories concerning the Nazca Lines and their origin, what they could possibly mean and who put them there. There are no exact answers but these theories and ideas have provided many possibilities that have brought historians closer to solving the mystery. These theories are the ones that are supported by much evidence and provides a reasonable explanation to the mysterious meaning of the lines. In the Nazca Desert, water is a scarce resource, but necessary for their overall survival. The solution could have been performing these rituals to ask the Gods for rain. A video by UNESCO explaining some background of the Nazca Lines suggests, Experts believe the Nazca used to dance along the lines of the geoglyphs when they prayed for rain, ( Lines and Geoglyphs of Nazca and Pampas de Jumana (UNESCO/NHK) , web). The dancing of the natives could have been part of a ritual to plead for water. This was a very important part in their everyday lives because it was their way of communicating with the Gods and telling them what it is that they needed to be able to continue. Some of the geoglyphs drawn are the killer whale, spider, monkey, condor and hummingbird. All of these animals are linked to water and are important for the Nazca people. The theory of the lines being linked to water is the most probable that even in other theories like the astronomy ones can be brought back to having some thing to do with water. The ideas that Maria Reiche and Paul Kosok studied about an astronomical calendar can be refined to agricultural clock, as mentioned in Archaeology, The sun enters this region of the horizon at the time of year late October when water beings to run in the rivers and their underground canals. If builders of the Nazca Lines had intended to incorporate an orientation calendar into their complex maze of lineation, we would logically expect not the solstices or equinoxes to be prominent in the plan, but rather the most significant times in the agricultural year to be indicated, just as they are at Cuzco, (Aveni, 39). • 16. Unit 2 Compare And Contrast Quantitative And Qualitative... Questions 1 3, 5, 6a,d e: 1) Calcite and halite share many similarities such as being white to transparent, having three cleavage points, and also has roughly the same hardness (calcite has a hardness of three whereas halite has a hardness of 2.5). However, there are also some ways to differentiate between the two. One way to do this, although it is not highly recommended to do this without proper identification, is to taste it. Halite has a salty taste since it is salt. Another way to know what mineral is calcite and which mineral is halite is by looking at their cleavage points. Calcite has rhombohedral cleavage planes (75В°) while Halite has a cubic cleavage point (90В°). 2) A mineral that was challenging to identify was potassium feldspar.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This describes graphite, but doesn t speak of any quantities or statistics. To make this observation more quantitative, I could relate this information to the hardness scale. The hardness scale states that a fingernail has a hardness of 2.5. From this, I can conclude that graphite has a hardness less than 2.5 since harder objects scratch softer objects. 5) An observation is something that you can look at and record. Observations can be qualitative and quantitative data. Inferences, however, are conclusion that can be made using observations and your prior knowledge. But as the war ended, men returned home, and women were pushed back into the households. This piece of history plays an essential role in how the women were presented in the film noir. Hollywood offers a progressive representation of those working women who went back quietly. The femme fatale took the strength of independence during the war. The women were then portrayed as cold and cruel, directly reflecting upon the sour truth of the reality the unfair treatment the women. Both Phyllis and Brigid were manipulative, controlling, and powerful women; consistently depicting the irony. Moreover, the time period of 1960s and 70s, was the period of women s liberation and feminism. At the same time, the country was also experiencing the post Watergate world. So, the movie Chinatown, presents both those aspects of the society. Polanski strongly emphasizes on the corruption and complexities of the dark society throughout the movie, while remaining true to the character of Evelyn. Women in this time period are no longer illustrated as strong and cold, but rather independent and dehumanized. Clearly, it still made woman dangerous, but more liberated. • 21. Symptoms And Treatment Of Infant Respiratory Distress... Overview of Disease Each day there are thousands of babies born, and families wait for their new loved ones to enter the world. However, there are also many complications that may occur with child birth. Approximately 50% of neonates born at 26 28 weeks gestation develop respiratory distress syndrome, whereas less than 30% of premature neonates born at 30 31 weeks gestation develop the condition (MedScape). Infant Respiratory Distress Syndrome, or IRDS for short, is a restrictive lung disease that commonly occurs in premature babies. Pathophysiology When premature babies are born they do not have fully developed lungs because the lungs are one of the last organs in the body to be produced. The alveoli in the baby s lungs have not yet started making surfactant, which is typically produced when the baby is 34 36 weeks gestation. When the alveoli do not have surfactant, the alveoli want to naturally collapse. Surfactant helps to keep the alveoli open and create more surface area for gas exchange. If you were to look at the infant s lungs using a microscope, you can see that lungs look as though they are solid from the areas where the alveoli have collapsed, also known as atelectasis. To try to compensate for the atelectasis, the respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts, and some of the alveoli dilate to decrease airway resistance and increase gas exchange (Jardins 476). As the disease worsens, the walls of the alveoli become lined with a hyaline membrane that is made up of dead cells and proteins that make it nearly impossible for gas exchange to occur. It makes the lungs stiff and much harder to ventilate. With the lungs being noncompliant, the baby starts to become hypoxic. When the infant becomes hypoxic, blood is shunted away from the other organs in the body and venous return and cardiac output are decreased. French sociologist, Emile Durkheim described religion as a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say, things set apart and forbidden beliefs and practices which unite into one single moral community (Jones, 2011). It is through cultural diversity, morality and ethics and laws in which the true relevance of religion in Australian society can be identified. • 38. Syntax And Syntax Of Language The syntactic theory or syntax of language dates back in history in the 1950s by Chomsky (Math una, 2009). The word syntax is derived from the Greek word syntaxis , meaning together and sequence . The term is used for the way in which words are put together in an orderly system to form phrases or sentences (Allahabad, 2010). Therefore, for the non expert, word order is the most remarkable thing about syntax(Bickerton, 2009). In fact, you could debate that word order is a secondary symptom, necessitated by the fact that we have only a single channel of speech, forcing words to be produced in a total order, and that word order falls out merely from reading the terminal nodes of a hierarchical tree structure. Yes, yes, I know what a kiss up to her sister, but I want to tell you about the wild spirited Abi, or as my mom says, The annoying one . Being her sister, she has showed and still shows me almost everything that I shouldn t do. Some things she does can just make you laugh so hard your stomach hurts or comfort you until you feel better. At first glance you don t see a warm and cuddly person, you see someone with a very stern face and mean attitude, but once you know her your view point just might change. Her personality is something that you would never think of for her. Man is she a nice person, she even works a preschool for early education because that s how much she loves helping tiny children. My sister has a boatload of humor, she keeps it all smiles. A couple weekends ago when she came back to Worcester, we were sitting in the living room doing something we probably weren t supposed to be doing. Our mom was yelling at us from the other room and she wanted the cat s collar. So, my sister gets up and starts to put the cat collar around her neck, like a choker and dance like she was in the music video for You Can t Touch This by McHammer, even adding in her banana pants to go complete the look. Abi has a very wild soul, living her life completely to the fullest. The bright strawberry hair and lengthy body bopping all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is not in keeping with the results of other tools that I have completed. The positive side of having such a dismal result to the cultural assessment is a rich bibliography of resources divided into categories. Some articles are familiar and some are new. The spiritual and ethical areas suggested for expanding my knowledge include: Identifying and engaging key cultural informants within diverse communities Querying key cultural informants regarding values, beliefs, and practices of community members as they relate to religiosity and spirituality, practitioner credibility, health, health care, illness and well being These are the key points taken from that review. My plan to address these is to utilize the videos listed in the bibliography first. I will include one video a month beginning March 25, 2010. As I review research protocols developed by professors at the local universities which focus on minority or special need populations, I will use that opportunity to glean information from the literature review, study plan and active engagement with the investigator to expand my knowledge beginning February 25, 2010. The ethical considerations associated with vulnerable populations require additional protections to ensure the study participants are not exploited ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Summary of The Book of Habakkuk Essay It is believed that the book of Habakkuk was written to Judah around the year 606 B.C., as Nineveh no longer exists, so it has to have been written some time after Nahum. There is nothing known about this prophet outside of this book, and it is believed that Habakkuk wrote the book himself, but it is uncertain. His name means embraced or could even be the name of an Assyrian flower. Also known as the prophet of the watchtower, he was one of the last prophets to write before the Babylonian captivity. Habakkuk was not written to prophecy to Judah or Israel about their destruction, but was written as if to God, with Habakkuk asking Him questions. Among the complaints and questions that Habakkuk brings to God, the most prevalent is this:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Woe to him who covets evil gain for his house...for the stone will cry out from the wall, and the beam from the timbers will answer it . Covetousness is a major problem for most men, back in that time as well as today, but seeking to gain things through evil and wicked methods is even worse. The Chaldeans seek to expand their kingdom through evil methods and wicked actions, and yet the things that they have gained are not to last. Eventually their kingdom will crumble, and they will cease to be a mighty nation. Woe to him who builds a town with bloodshed...for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of The Lord, as the waters cover the sea. The saying He who lives by the sword, will die by the sword. comes to mind right now as we see that because the Chaldeans build themselves up with bloodshed and murder, the whole world will witness the glory of The Lord, and will see His power brought against them. They are an unnecessarily bloody nation, and because of this, I guess you could say they they will soon become an even more bloody nation as they face the wrath of God. • 46. Tolerance As Defined By Merriam Webster On Tolerance Tolerance, as defined by Merriam Webster, is willingness to accept feelings, habits, or beliefs that are different from your own. Tolerance is something one must work at to maintain for acceptance of others is not inherent to human nature or at least it does not seem to be, for the most part. It is, however, human nature to see anyone unfamiliar and different as other . Due to human nature, I am rarely, if ever, surprised by some of the remarks I come across in my daily life, especially from my peers. Occasionally, though, I am very disappointed and surprised by people I respect. My father, on a clear winter morning, devastated my pure view of his wisdom with a singular comment. He said, The mess these black people in Detroit are in is what they deserve. All of them are hooligans and hood rats. There is no way to save Detroit with so many black people there. All I could do was nod my head and stay silent while inside all I felt was shock. I had never heard my father make a comment so prejudiced before and had believed him to be a tolerant man of all groups of people. He had grown up in Detroit, gone into the navy and seen the world through it, had received a college education, and worked at a steady job where he met all sorts of different people. Through knowing this, I had thought him to be the picture of a tolerant American who knew differences existed but accepted them. Whoever wishes to confer some benefit on society must preserve him from deviation and observe his natural ways acting. A child is mysterious and powerful and contains within himself the secret of human nature. Explain the above quote with reference to the Montessori philosophy. The term Montessori Philosophy originated from the name of Dr. Maria Montessori, one of the most influential pioneers in early childhood education. She advised an education which combines a philosophy with a practical approach based on the central idea of freedom for the child within a carefully planned and structured environment. Thus it is said that The child is endowed with unknown powers which can guide us to a radiant future. (The Absorbent Mind ,P2) During the observation of children at Casa Dei Bambini, Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that children prefer work to play. They were able to achieve a self integration through this work. She found that the aggressive and destructive children became calm and peaceful after working with the materials. She concluded that through work the child seemed to get fulfillment of some internal need which made him normalized. Montessori found out that independence is necessary to the child s normal development. The child uses his independence to listen to his inner guide for actions that can be useful to him and one who is served is actually limited in his independence. It is well said that we habitually serve children; and this is not only an act of servility towards them but it is dangerous, since it tends to suffocate their useful, spontaneous activity. (Course manual P.40). We can help the child attain independence by giving opportunity for him to work with the materials by himself, by directing him towards a given end to develop his will, by giving him constructive work to help him in developing discipline, by letting him know and have an understanding of what is good and bad and also giving him freedom to reveal himself completely by playing only passive role.
