Boxer Rebellion Dbq Essay
First of all, imperialism impacted China by changing their ideology and affecting their nationalism.
When China became imperialized, their identity changed by following the traditions and the law of the
nations. The chinese were unsatisfied with the nation s ideologies and rules, which lead to The Boxer
Rebellion in 1899. A secret society, Righteous Harmonious Fists, lead rebellions around the country.
In document two Western Perspective, it portrays Germany s point of view of The Boxer Rebellion.
Wilhelm II thinks the chinese have overturned their laws, neglecting their cultural beliefs. This is
important because China is deciding to ignore the Nation s laws and their Ideology. Even Though the
chinese knew they would receive consequences, they still renegaded to have pride for their country. ...

While The boxer rebellions is still ongoing, the British were selling opium, a poisonous drug made
from poppy plants, to the chinese people. The British colonies refused to stop importing opium and
continued selling opium to injure the chinese. In document 1 The Opium War, The chinese suffered
shameful defeat and were forced to sign the Treaty of Nanjing, which gave Britain the island of Hong
Kong and free from the chinese laws at the chinese ports. China s humiliated lost made them resist
against the British rule, eventually leading to the Opium Wars. Although they were manipulated by the
British, they still resisted to prove their loyalty and their love for their country. This indicates that the
chinese people show Nationalism by portraying the pride they have for their country. The chinese also
shows ideology by showing loyalty to their sacredness and ancient culture. In conclusion, imperialism
altered China to a country that has nationalism and pride for their

Obstacles In Thomas Jefferson s Life
Thomas Jefferson was a known and accomplished man during his entire life. He was born on April 13,
1743, in a town located just outside of Charlottesville, Virginia and had died July 4, 1743. Jefferson
was tall, red haired with many freckles, and wasn t considered very attractive. In his early life he
worked hard for what he wanted passing many obstacles. Jefferson was a poor public speaker, but
oddly became a very accomplished lawyer. Jefferson had many roles to play in the government. He
was the nation s first secretary of state, second vice president, the third president of the United States
and one of the people known for the Louisiana Purchase. Jefferson also had a big name as the author
of the American of Independence.

leave his house to avoid a capture from British cavalry. As this was taking place Jefferson had stated,

Teaching Children How To Read
The more you read, the more things you know. The more that you learn, the more places you ll go Dr.
Seuss. Dr.Seuss could not be any more right. It is often said that once you find the right book, you
could go anywhere. Literacy is one of the most important things that a child could ever learn. In order
to succeed in society today, one must be able to read, write, speak and even listen. There has been
great debate over the different approaches when it comes to teaching children how to read. This essay
will go more in depth on both approaches, how the writer learned how to read, how the writer will
teach their students how to read. The first approach that we are going to talk about are going to talk

Roe V. Wade Case Analysis
On a cold day in January of 1973, Roe V. Wade was passed by the Supreme Court. This nationwide
case made abortion fully legal in the United States. Supreme Court justices agreed that the
constitutions first, fourth, ninth, and fourteenth amendments protect an individual s rights of privacy
against state laws. Things such as marriage, contraception, and so forth fall under such laws. It was
found that abortion falls under these privacy laws, as well. This was a huge win for women s rights.
Not only did women gain the right to make a safe and legal decision about their own bodies, but it was
also an important win because at the time one in five maternal deaths were due to illegal abortions
(Abortion, Issues and Controversies). Now that abortion is legal, and has been for over forty years, the
maternal death rate is much lower and the number of abortions is actually declining (Rachel, Jones, et
al.). Women in the modern age now have access to safe abortions, which is good. However, they also

Pregnancy is not a walk in the park, and deciding to spend nine months carrying a baby should be a
nothing but a positive and healthy experience for a women; not something that she is forced against
her will to do because she simply has no other options. If abortions were to become illegal once again,
many women seeking to terminate their pregnancies would be forced to resort to unsafe and dangerous
underground procedures. These underground abortions, which would most likely be performed in an
unsanitary location and not by a medical professional, would lead to higher instances of infection and
death (Abortion, Issues and controversies). Politicians, state governments, and people that want to put
heavy restrictions and even outlaw all access to abortion are immensely damaging the fundamental
rights of women to make private decisions on what to do with their own

Laniak s Shepherds After My Own Heart Summary
I read the assigned reading from Laniak s Shepherds After My Own Heart with great interest. The
author does not waste time and starts by giving the reader a through overview of the historical context
of the shepherd motif in the ancient world. This concept is grounded in the cultural traditions of the
ancient near east world. After a lengthy exposition of the shepherd role in the ancient world, the author
gives of a thorough explanation of the role the shepherd motif played in the Old and New Testament.
Laniak s says that the thesis of this present work is that a discernable pastoral stream of tradition flows
through the Scriptures (Laniak 2006: 24).
The Old Testament is replete with stories and metaphors of good and bad shepherds. ... Show more

In this respect the four major prophets, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Zechariah they all present a
pastoral image of the shepherd. The four gospels are in the New Testament also give us that unique
image of a caring and good shepherd identified as Jesus.
Mark present the shepherd of the second exodus, Matthew is concerned with the compassionate
Davidic shepherd, Luke is focusing on presenting the good shepherd as seeking and saving the lost,
and John portraits the good shepherd as the self sacrificing shepherd (Laniak 2006: 25).
Many Christians have read both testament where the metaphor shepherd have been used to indicate
the leadership of the kings and spiritual leaders of Israel. But many have not stop to think why the
image of the shepherd found its way in the Bible. The fact that many of the ancient near east people
made their living by raising small livestock and cattle as a primary form of subsistence (Laniak 2006:
42) has cause this tradition to make its way into the parlance of the Scriptures and become an
anthropomorphism even to portrait the image of God as a caring

Operating Margin And Operating Margins
Operating Margin
By having a good operating margin which is a margin ratio used in measuring a company s pricing
strategy and operating efficiency. The operating margin, measures your operating profitability, it
indicates how much of each dollar of revenues used is left over after both costs of goods sold and
operating expenses are considered. Operating margins are important because they measure efficiency.
The higher the operating margin, the more profitable a company s core business is. For example, I
created a mock report called Dean s report In the report I have the following numbers on my financial
statement for my event I held. net sales: $1,000,000 cost of goods sold: $700,000 rent: $20,000 wages:
$100,000 other operating expenses: $50,000 net sales all operating expenses = 530,000 then create a
formula similar to this .53 = 530,000 1,000,000 as you can see, Dean s operating income is $530,000
(Net sales all operating expenses). According to the formula used, Dean s operating margin is .53. By
taking that away from 110 this means that 57 cents on every dollar of sales are used to pay for variable
costs. Only 53 cents remains to cover all non operating expenses or fixed costs.
Working Capital Ratio

Comparison Of Sikhism In The Fullerton Gurdwara
The phrase Sikh refers to disciple in Punjabi, or those who see themselves as disciples or followers of
Akal Purakh, the ten Sikh Gurus, and the sacred scripture, the Adi Granth. Sikhs worship Sri Guru
Nanak; Guru Nanak was born in 1469 to a higher caste merchant family in a village which is near
modern day Lahore, Pakistan. At this time a lot of India was under the Muslim control including the
Punjab. The story behind Guru Nanak is that he went to bathe in the Vein River and during this bath
he completely disappeared. All of his family looked for him but he could not be found, but three days
later he came out of the water and declared, There is no Hindu, there is no Muslim. This statement
plays a huge part in this religion because of the two opposing religions, Hinduism and Islam,
surrounding Sikhism. Therefore, the ideology behind Sikhism is that there is one God for all religions
and that as a Sikh you must follow the writings and teachings of the ten gurus. My goal for this
research paper is to compare and contrast what I observed at the Fullerton Gurdwara to what the book,
the lectures, and other educational resources say. In the following paragraphs I will discuss clothing
etiquette, prayer, and modern Sikhism as observed in the Fullerton Gurdwara.
To start off, when first coming to a Gurdwara I was told to wear traditional clothing such as a shalwar

Is the Food Stamp Program a Substantial Contribution to Childhood Obesity? Is the Food Stamp
Program a Substantial Contribution to Childhood Obesity? Introduction Is the rising rate of childhood
obesity within the United States affected by the food stamp program? This is the question that
formulated the basis of my research. Looking at the rising statistics of obesity rates within America s
youth and researching why the weight of the United States community is significantly passing those of
its surrounding countries. In researching this topic I hope to determine if the food stamp program is in
any way responsible for this increasing health issue. As the years progress the health of today s youth

These limitations force the recipients to make their food stamps last over the given month that they are
disbursed; this usually leads them to buying products in bulk. Families that usually worry about
having enough food on a day to day basis are given the ability to purchase food products without
limitations, tend to focus on quantity over quality. Concentrating on quantity is the determinant food
stamp recipients use in making meager choices and over consume low quality food. More often than
not they buy more food that would not be considered healthy or beneficial towards their diet. The
increase in weight progressively occurs as the recipients continue to receive the food stamps. Gibson
(2004 p. 372) also examined the long term effect of food stamp participation on childhood obesity. In
her study Gibson focused on the quantity, quality, and timing of food consumption s effects on the
food stamp program s young recipients. She examined the eating habits of children participating in the
food stamp program as well as their physical activity (Gibson 2006 p. 1081). She concluded that long
term participation is positively and suggestively associated with being overweight among younger
children who are under the poverty line. Opposing Views The article titled Child Specific Food

Women of Trachis Essay
In Sophocles Women of Trachis, who is responsible for Heracles death? Note: that an important part
of your response to this question will be to discuss the extent to which Heracles may be responsible
for his own destruction, through his nature as a traditional hero.
It could be argued that none of the characters in Women of Trachis are essentially and solely
responsible for the death of Sophocles character Heracles. It is simply human error and the innate
qualities of a tragic hero and heroine. All the same, one could justify that the characters could have
foreseen the impact of their actions or perhaps that the disastrous end of Heracles was inevitable as it
was the prediction of the oracle (Women of Trachis ll.77 82). In the ... Show more content on

The Role Of The Female Narrator In Humphry Clinker
The novel Humphry Clinker is written almost exclusively through one sided letters of correspondence.
A majority of the letters presented in this novel are written by the two male narrators of the story,
leaving the rest of the space for the female narrators. While the male narrators of Jery Melford and
Matthew Bramble are used to offer most of the detail to the novel, the female narrators help to offer
portions of substance. The narrators of Tabitha Bramble, Lydia Melford, and Winifred Jenkins are
used to offer a deeper analysis and differing perspective of the events that take place, in turn
displaying the essence of the story. Each of the narrators have their own individual purpose in the
story. When the novel begins, Tabitha Bramble s letter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lydia often says things that speak about her sex and how she sees them to act. One instance where
Lydia does this is when she says I have seen enough to believe, that our sex in general make it their
business to ensnare others (289). Not only is Lydia basically saying that all women are nosy
busybodies, but that they use that quality to catch others whether it be in a lie or in marriage. The fact
that Lydia says things like this is interesting because while her character is saying it, Smollett is the
one writing it. With this single line he makes women out to be sneaky and conniving creatures, and
through this, wholly disrespectable. Now, Lydia isn t portrayed to be this way, so it brings up not only
the question of class but the question of education as being a factor. Lydia is a high classed woman
with an education, so she is made to be better than Tabitha who is of the same class, however with less
education. Therefore, it implies that class isn t a factor in how women act, but their amount of
education. Something else Smollett expresses is that women are not strong willed and easy to sway.
After Humphry apologizes in nicer clothing for accidentally exposing his bare bottom to Tabitha, Jery
observes this compliment and humiliation had some effect upon Tabby (97). Tabitha is so easily
swayed by a man of good appearance that she is made out to be simple minded. In the end of the

Laughter Contagious Phenomenon
Why is Laughter Contagious? This online newsletter suggests how laughter is a contagious
phenomenon as laughter triggers responses in the premotor cortical region of the brain. It also
discusses on how laughter epidemic brought on by stress, causes mass psychogenic illness or mass

human body could be seen from both a psychological and physiological perspective.

However, least did they know that laughter could provide a method for negative emotions to be
harmlessly released as laughter is therapeutic. Biological fight or flight response can be inhibited
through the relaxation resulting from a bout of laughter. Moreover, the capability to laugh is especially
useful for coping with major sickness and life s difficulties, as well as balancing all the components of
the immune system, which helps us fight off diseases. Laughter can not only help us in reducing
certain levels of our stress hormones but by doing so, it provides a safety valve that shuts off the flow
of stress hormones and the fight or flight compounds that swing into action in our bodies when we
experience stress, anger or hostility. The increase in the number of blood platelets and raise of blood
pressure were also caused by these stress hormones that suppressed the immune system. Therefore,
laughter is able to help us by increasing natural killer cells such as Gamma interferon (a disease
fighting protein), T cells, which are a major part of the immune response, and B cells, which make
disease destroying antibodies to destroy tumours and viruses. Last but not least, laughter also helps in
defending against infectious organisms entering through the respiratory tract by increasing the

Racial Stereotypes Of Asian-Americans
Today, when society talks about diversity, often times, Asian Americans are brought into the
conversation and are talked about as highly looked up to individuals, but they haven t always been this
way. On television, many times, Asian Americans are represented as nerdy and socially
incapable/awkward , Asian American males are mostly shown as being weak and stereotypically
awkward, while Asian American females are either shown as exotic or also stereotypically awkward
and nerdy, as stated by Takaki in his book Strangers from a Different Shore on page 479,
Hopeful a college education can help them [the students] overcome racial obstacles, they realize the
need to be serious about their studies. But white college students complain: Asian students are nerds.
This very stereotype betrays nervousness fears that Asian American students are raising class grade
curves.
Though, these representations do only account for the three most popular Asian ethnic groups:
Japanese, Chinese and Korean. The other Asian ethnic groups are mostly invisible to society, some
groups, such as the Vietnamese Americans and the Hmong Americans, are known for their population
size. These groups are also the groups that tend to live in areas that are largely populated with the
same race, therefore, congregating to one area. A lot of times, I ve realized from personal experience,
that when people realize that I am Asian, they tend to compare me with the stereotypes that are
generally associated with being Asian American. Often, I am told that I am tall for being Asian as the
stereotypes say that Asians females generally are shorter in stature and are petite with light skin and
pin straight black hair. On occasion, I am told that I look more Hawaiian than I do Asian due to my
darker skin and bigger build. Though, I do hear a lot of comments regarding my eyes and about how
little they are. These experiences have made me believe that the role that Asian Americans play in the
race conversation now is that when the conversation turns to Asian America, people automatically
look towards stereotypes along with looking at certain traditional cultures often stating things such as,
I really like Asian foods or, I think that kimonos are

because they play the part of an East Texan well, but also because they have Texan accents to go along

Even though Bernie seems like a tall tale, it is actually based upon a true story.

The Start Of It All
The Start Of It All
According to The Norton Field Guide to Writing, All writing has a purpose. We write to explore our
thoughts and emotions, to express ourselves, to entertain: we write to record words and events, to
communicate with others, to try and persuade others to believe as we do or to behave in certain ways
(Bullock, Richard H, Maureen Daly Goggin, Francine Weinberg, 3). Writing can start with a simple
idea that crosses the mind, an event that brings back memories or a new thought that appears in the
mind. Every writer goes through a different scenario that allows them to experience the basics of
writing. The writer can experience certain prompts, or encounter people that will forever influence the
way they write. Every piece ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Spring by Gerard Manley Hopkins
With every end, there is a beginning. When the cold winter ends, there is a new beginning in nature
where the trees and flowers start fresh as they grow once again. The poem Spring , takes us, readers,
to a setting where the place shows complete nature. We are to imagine aesthetic scenery where spring
has arrived and everything that happens during this season is happening right in front of us. The
speaker seems to appreciate nature so much that he sees the complete difference between the seasons
and that he admires the birth of the natural world. He explains his feelings in almost all aspects as he
describes the rinsing in his ears in one line which may mean that, his mind, soul, and body is refreshed
with what the natural sound that he hears during this season. As for him, he conceptualizes the natural
world as a pure creation of God and that it helps in spiritual awakening. Here is the interpretation and
analysis of the poem based on the sections that respect the grammar and meaning of its sentences:
Nothing is so beautiful as Spring When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;
In the first line, the speaker says that there is no other thing that is as similar to the beauty of Spring.
With the dash after the word spring, it means that the speaker is trying to let the readers believe the
first statement that nothing is so beautiful as Spring. The weeds in wheels in the second line may
mean, that, weeds have grown in wheels or maybe the way the weeds

The First Crusades During The Crusades
Jeet Kothari

29 January 2016
The First Crusades The First Crusades were military planned missions planned by Christian leaders;
the proclaimed purpose was to recover Jerusalem as well as Antioch, which were in an area known as
the Holy Land, from the controls of Turks. The reason why they feature so prominently in history is
because they were one of the longest battles in history. All three of the Crusades lasted about 200
years. Additionally, the Crusades were a major reason for why Europe came out of the Dark Ages.
After 200 years of darkness, Europe had a rebirth.
The Crusades were not an early example of European colonization even if they did create some
kingdoms there for a while. ( The Crusades ). It has been argued that the knights who went
adventuring in the Crusades were the second and third sons of nobles who, because of European
inheritance rules, had little to look forward by staying in Europe. However, most of the people who
responded to the call to Crusade weren t knights at all; they were poor people. Secondly, most of
nobles who did go crusading were lords of grand estates. ( Crusades .) This analysis of people of the
Crusades ignores religious motivations. History has approached religions as occurrences. For instance,
the unpredictable environments of Mesopotamia and Egypt led to a belief in various types of Gods
which would help solve each of their problems. However, just as the world shape religion, religious

the world, armed conflicts constantly interrupt the harvest and production of food. This type of
conflict also forces millions of people to flee their homes, resulting in severe crises in the food
security of people who, once they move, find themselves without the means to support themselves.
The conflict in Syria is a perfect example. In war, sometimes food becomes weapons. The combatants
force their adversaries to surrender through hunger, taking food and livestock and systematically
destroying local markets. The fields, usually mined and contaminated water wells, force farmers to
leave their land. The growing conflict in Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo has

Dr. W Edwards Deming
Dr. W. Edwards Deming was a well respected man because of his philosophy of management. He
viewed management as a tool for success in any organization. Dr. Deming was an expert statistician
and during World War II he helped the United States in its efforts to improve the quality of war

reputation of producing cheap imitation products. Through the years and many visits by Dr. Deming,
Japan was able to produce quality products. He is highly respected in Japan and respected also in the

Deming believe that people want a sense of joy and pride in there work. Money is needed for living
but joy and pride is valued more. They want recognition more than the dollar. Along with Dr. Deming,
Herzberg believed that money is no motivator also. I know many people feel if they got paid more
than they would do more at their job. There are many who feel they are over worked and not paid
enough. They think if they were to receive more money, they would do a better job. Dr. Deming and
Herzberg would disagree. They would say that those employees do not like there job and regardless
what one would pay them, they still would not put forth their best effort because money is not a
motivator. Dr. Edward Deming also believed that a firm should want to have strong competitors. His
reasoning for saying this is to drive out fear. Better competition leads to bigger and better expansion of
the market. Customers needs are determined by what the firm makes it. We did not ask for electricity,
but we got it anyway. Now, most people would not even dare to live without it. Although many would
disagree with Dr. Deming and say that it would be more beneficial for the company to be in a market
with no strong competitors, Dr. Deming would agree with that statement. It would be good for the
company but for the economy as a whole, it would not be good for. Even though these views are not
commonly accepted, one may begin to understand them if they are looked at in a

Brooklyn Train Station Research Paper
This field research project is on the accessibility of Brooklyn train stations for non ambulatory
individuals. I frequently ride the subways to travel to Manhattan and the stations I have come across in
the past such as 42nd street Time Square, 34th street Herald Square, and 14th street Union Square all
appeared to be accessible to disabled people who use wheelchairs. I wanted to explore four train
station in Brooklyn both busy and non busy stations to see how accessible they are. The first Brooklyn
train station that I visited was the Broadway Junction train station. This station is located on Fulton
Street and Vansiderdan Avenue, the border of East New York. This station serves the A,C,J, L, and Z
trains. Broadway Junction station is one of the busiest stations in Brooklyn. I arrived to this station via
bus during morning rush hour. I immediately notice construction being done on the sidewalk making
the remaining sidewalk very narrow. It was difficult to find a slope to get on the sidewalk if I were ...

street. Immediately I noticed one step in order to get into the station. As in all stations there was metro
card machines and tollbooth clerk. There was also a gate that the clerk buzzed if someone needed to
pass. There were two stairwells, Manhattan bound and Coney Island bound. There was no elevator in
sight. In fact I witnessed a mother carrying a stroller with a child up the stairs. Once I was on the

Risk Of Osteoporosis
During childhood, bones grow and repair very quickly, but this process gets slower as you age.
Bones stop growing in length between the ages of 16 and 18, but continue to increase in density until
you re in your late 20s.
You gradually start to lose bone density from about 35 years of age. Women normally lose bone
rapidly in the first few years.
Osteoporosis can affect both men and women. It s more common in elderly people, but it can also
affect younger people after the menopause.
Women are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis than men because the hormone changes that
occur in the menopause directly affects bone density. The female hormone estrogen is critical for
healthy bones. After the menopause estrogen levels fall, it can lead ... Show more content on

Early in the course of the disease, osteoporosis may cause no symptoms. Later, it some signals may
include dull pain in the bones or muscles, particularly low back pain or neck pain.
Later in the course of the disease, sharp pains may come on suddenly. The pain may not radiate but it
may be made worse by activity that puts weight on the area. It sometimes is accompanied by
tenderness, and generally begins to subside in one week. Pain may linger more than three months.
In older people, a fractured bone can be very serious and result in long term disability for that person.
For example, a hip fracture may lead to long term mobility problems. Sometimes a cough or sneeze
can cause a rib fracture or the partial collapse of one of the bones of the spine.

bending forward. It happens when the bones in the spine have fractured, making it difficult to support

Chess Vs. Chess
Life is one of the most, if not the absolute most difficult things to be successful at. Chess is a mental
battle that all be it is much shorter than life, it is still a battle that requires strategies in order to be
successful. Besides chess being a matchup of pieces, the similarities between chess and life are
evident and can be compared to many parts of life, ultimately showing that strategies are required to
become successful.
A game crafted by L shaped moves, diagonal slides with fuzz on the bottom of a bishop, as well as
numbers and letters riding along the entire 64 spaced square. Chess is not just an activity but a way to
relieve stress, show one s intelligence to others, and prove your endurance through another typical
game. The black pawn short, round topped, and terribly stubborn. The black pawn, is the biggest
obstacle towards winning a match. Conquering one black pawn at a time is just the same as
overcoming a challenge in our lives. But wait, aren t there eight pawns? Yes, yes there are.Throughout
life, there will always be an endless amount of pawns that will have to beat, and while it may be
tough, the lessons I will learn from winning each conflict will shape people into a more effective
player in the chess game of life. As a similarity to chess, life is all about endurance, and with
endurance comes resilience and motivation. With those traits people can better prepare oneself to
overcome challenges encountered.

History Of Internet On The World

History of Internet
Before the the Internet was created, linking the world, human beings were already thinking with a
connected mind. While messages obviously were unable to be transferred electronically, humans
invented different ways to trade information and news with other people. Firstly was the post. In order
to send a friend a message, a letter would have had to been written and mailed. Mailing messages was
a long process, often taking days to get one message to another person. This method (still used today)
was not the most convenient because there is no urgency or speed in mailing a letter. Luckily in the
mid 1800 s the telegraph was invented. Sent for the first time in 1838, the telegraph was the first
instance of sending a message (4). A telegraph is defined as the transmission of textual or symbolic
messages without the physical exchange of an object. This is the first instance of a message being sent
in a virtual sense (2). While messages could be delivered through the mail within a matter of days, a
telegraph could be transmitted live. At the time this was quite a feat. When studying the creation of the
internet, it is important to remember that not one single man directly created the web that we know
today. Rather, many brilliant minds, over time, added and refined the experience for the greater good.
Originally, the earliest version of the internet was constructed as a tool for US warfare. The United

The first article I read was Effect of Dancing on Subjective Experiences and Psychological State of
Dancers by Dagmar Hrusova. In the article, Hrusova explains that dance can help develop social skills
and improve psychological health in addition to physical health, noting several other authors works on
the subject. He shares the results of an experiment that was conducted with non professional dancers
of two different genres of dance; street and modern (ten of each) in his article. The purpose of this
experiment was to establish the current emotional state and background of the participants before they
started dancing and see if possible changes occurred due to the effects of dancing. The dancers were
both male and female (six female and four male street dancers, ten female modern dancers) between
the ages of 17 and 36, and the only requirement was that the participants of this study attend dance
classes at least two times a week. The positive factors that were measured in this experiment were
psychological well being and activeness, and negative factors were anxious expectations, fears and
sadness. Dancers were given a questionnaire as a pre test and post test before and after every class for
a set period of time. The questionnaire consisted of 24 adjectives that described psychological
experiences, feelings and emotional states that the dancers ranked on a scale of zero to four (zero

No Child Left Behind Was An Act Of Congress Proposed By...
No Child Left Behind was an act of Congress proposed by President Bush January 23, 2001. The bill
was coauthored by the following representatives: John Boehner (R OH), George Miller (D CA), and
Senators Edward Kennedy (D MA) and Judd Gregg (R NH). The purpose of this bill was to
reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act which included Title 1, a program for
disadvantaged youth. To receive federal funding schools must measure students using standardized
assessments in particular grades. Each state has developed its own standard for how a student must
perform on a given assessment. Before No Child Left Behind states took in billions of dollars for
educational funding and were not held accountable for the funds allocated to them.
Disadvantaged youth were written off as unable to be taught and they were pushed through the system
receiving little to no education. Parents were denied the ability to know if their students were
receiving quality education. Some speculate people against educational reform have incorrectly
claimed that NCLB is an unfunded mandate. Brian Riedl of the Heritage Foundation noted, NCLB is
neither unfunded nor a mandate. States are not obligated to accept funds in federal education aid
NCLB offers. If a state wishes to not be held accountable for improving student achievement, or that
prefer to do things a different way, they can simply decline the money.

The Impact Of Modern Health Care On The United States
Modern health care is a policy revolving around a system that allows individuals to access medical
services in order to maintain or improve physical and mental health. There is not universal coverage
throughout the world, and some individuals have the access and coverage vital to their wellbeing. In
the last decade, healthcare cost have been rising at a steady rate on a worldly scale. Numerous
industrialized and developed countries are being exposed to a steady fluctuation within the structure of
the system, and the question on how to control and prevent further increases has yet to be solved. A
large percentage of the GDP for developed countries is currently being spent on the healthcare system.
Countries such as the United States spend around 17.7% of its GDP on healthcare, with the
Netherlands spending the second most at around 11.9%. This widespread increase on healthcare
expenditures is only going to increase as time progresses, unless a new universal system is
implemented that will help control the cost worldwide. In many countries, millions of people suffer
from illness because of their lack of resources, and appropriate access of health care they need. As a
result of this, a large percentage of the population in the lesser developed regions are dying due to the
nonexistence of treatment. Contrary to that, if medical attention is received, the costly services push
them into poverty or financial deficit. In countries that have access to certain health services at an

Physical and Behavioral Responses to Starvation and Famine in Two Populations
Introduction
Famine is an event in which food and resources are inaccessible and the majority of a population is
endangered (Shipton, 1990). When applied to starvation this definition is accurate with one additional
idea: starvation is the result of inaccessibility to resources. Many factors contribute to the progression
of famine and the resulting starvation. One of the key factors to consider is the delineation between
naturally occurring and man made starvation and famine.
Naturally occurring famine is the result of agricultural or environmental causes such as lack of rainfall

and analysis of starvation in human subjects and is commonly used for interpreting starvation and
famine experiences under less controlled populations and circumstances. The results of the study filled
the urgent need after World War II for information on the physical changes that occur because of semi
starvation and what approach should be taken in rehabilitating starving people. The parameters in
addition to continuous residence at the Laboratory of Physiological
Hygiene at the University of Minnesota included strict dietary controls during the three stages of the
study: a twelve week control, a twenty four week semi starvation, and a twelve week period of
restricted rehabilitation. The diet consumed during the semi starvation period reflected the diet typical
of European areas that had or were experiencing famine. The food proportions and diets were adjusted
to each subject according to body size and relative obesity (Keys et al.,
1950).
Detailed accounts of the physical responses of the subjects and morphology of the body as it
underwent nutritional restriction were included in the study. There was an average decrease of twenty
five percent muscle tissue and subcutaneous fat, which caused much of the body to become atrophied.
The bones of the upper torso (specifically the clavicle and rib bones) became prominent as soft tissues

Blue Zones ideas.
Hanging out with the right people
The last topic I m going to talk about is the type of people you hang out with. This is a really
important idea to take into consideration. In the Blue Zones it showed us that. No one can be alone

Mark present the shepherd of the second exodus, Matthew is concerned with the compassionate Davidic shepherd, Luke is focusing on presenting the good shepherd as seeking and saving the lost, and John portraits the good shepherd as the self sacrificing shepherd (Laniak 2006: 25). Many Christians have read both testament where the metaphor shepherd have been used to indicate the leadership of the kings and spiritual leaders of Israel. But many have not stop to think why the image of the shepherd found its way in the Bible. The fact that many of the ancient near east people made their living by raising small livestock and cattle as a primary form of subsistence (Laniak 2006: 42) has cause this tradition to make its way into the parlance of the Scriptures and become an anthropomorphism even to portrait the image of God as a caring ... • 7. Operating Margin And Operating Margins Operating Margin By having a good operating margin which is a margin ratio used in measuring a company s pricing strategy and operating efficiency. The operating margin, measures your operating profitability, it indicates how much of each dollar of revenues used is left over after both costs of goods sold and operating expenses are considered. Operating margins are important because they measure efficiency. The higher the operating margin, the more profitable a company s core business is. For example, I created a mock report called Dean s report In the report I have the following numbers on my financial statement for my event I held. net sales: $1,000,000 cost of goods sold: $700,000 rent: $20,000 wages: $100,000 other operating expenses: $50,000 net sales all operating expenses = 530,000 then create a formula similar to this .53 = 530,000 1,000,000 as you can see, Dean s operating income is $530,000 (Net sales all operating expenses). According to the formula used, Dean s operating margin is .53. By taking that away from 110 this means that 57 cents on every dollar of sales are used to pay for variable costs. Only 53 cents remains to cover all non operating expenses or fixed costs. Working Capital Ratio Working capital ratio, the working capital ratio, also called the current ratio. • 8. Comparison Of Sikhism In The Fullerton Gurdwara The phrase Sikh refers to disciple in Punjabi, or those who see themselves as disciples or followers of Akal Purakh, the ten Sikh Gurus, and the sacred scripture, the Adi Granth. Sikhs worship Sri Guru Nanak; Guru Nanak was born in 1469 to a higher caste merchant family in a village which is near modern day Lahore, Pakistan. At this time a lot of India was under the Muslim control including the Punjab. The story behind Guru Nanak is that he went to bathe in the Vein River and during this bath he completely disappeared. All of his family looked for him but he could not be found, but three days later he came out of the water and declared, There is no Hindu, there is no Muslim. This statement plays a huge part in this religion because of the two opposing religions, Hinduism and Islam, surrounding Sikhism. Therefore, the ideology behind Sikhism is that there is one God for all religions and that as a Sikh you must follow the writings and teachings of the ten gurus. My goal for this research paper is to compare and contrast what I observed at the Fullerton Gurdwara to what the book, the lectures, and other educational resources say. In the following paragraphs I will discuss clothing etiquette, prayer, and modern Sikhism as observed in the Fullerton Gurdwara. To start off, when first coming to a Gurdwara I was told to wear traditional clothing such as a shalwar kameez which consists of a long shirt called a kameez and wide, loose pants called a salwar and you must also bring ... Introduction Is the rising rate of childhood obesity within the United States affected by the food stamp program? This is the question that formulated the basis of my research. Looking at the rising statistics of obesity rates within America s youth and researching why the weight of the United States community is significantly passing those of its surrounding countries. These limitations force the recipients to make their food stamps last over the given month that they are disbursed; this usually leads them to buying products in bulk. Families that usually worry about having enough food on a day to day basis are given the ability to purchase food products without limitations, tend to focus on quantity over quality. Concentrating on quantity is the determinant food stamp recipients use in making meager choices and over consume low quality food. More often than not they buy more food that would not be considered healthy or beneficial towards their diet. The increase in weight progressively occurs as the recipients continue to receive the food stamps. Gibson (2004 p. 372) also examined the long term effect of food stamp participation on childhood obesity. In her study Gibson focused on the quantity, quality, and timing of food consumption s effects on the food stamp program s young recipients. She examined the eating habits of children participating in the food stamp program as well as their physical activity (Gibson 2006 p. 1081). Note: that an important part of your response to this question will be to discuss the extent to which Heracles may be responsible for his own destruction, through his nature as a traditional hero. It could be argued that none of the characters in Women of Trachis are essentially and solely responsible for the death of Sophocles character Heracles. It is simply human error and the innate qualities of a tragic hero and heroine. All the same, one could justify that the characters could have foreseen the impact of their actions or perhaps that the disastrous end of Heracles was inevitable as it was the prediction of the oracle (Women of Trachis ll.77 82). A majority of the letters presented in this novel are written by the two male narrators of the story, leaving the rest of the space for the female narrators. While the male narrators of Jery Melford and Matthew Bramble are used to offer most of the detail to the novel, the female narrators help to offer portions of substance. The narrators of Tabitha Bramble, Lydia Melford, and Winifred Jenkins are used to offer a deeper analysis and differing perspective of the events that take place, in turn displaying the essence of the story. One instance where Lydia does this is when she says I have seen enough to believe, that our sex in general make it their business to ensnare others (289). Not only is Lydia basically saying that all women are nosy busybodies, but that they use that quality to catch others whether it be in a lie or in marriage. The fact that Lydia says things like this is interesting because while her character is saying it, Smollett is the one writing it. With this single line he makes women out to be sneaky and conniving creatures, and through this, wholly disrespectable. Now, Lydia isn t portrayed to be this way, so it brings up not only the question of class but the question of education as being a factor. Lydia is a high classed woman with an education, so she is made to be better than Tabitha who is of the same class, however with less education. Therefore, it implies that class isn t a factor in how women act, but their amount of education. Something else Smollett expresses is that women are not strong willed and easy to sway. After Humphry apologizes in nicer clothing for accidentally exposing his bare bottom to Tabitha, Jery observes this compliment and humiliation had some effect upon Tabby (97). Racial Stereotypes Of Asian-Americans Today, when society talks about diversity, often times, Asian Americans are brought into the conversation and are talked about as highly looked up to individuals, but they haven t always been this way. On television, many times, Asian Americans are represented as nerdy and socially incapable/awkward , Asian American males are mostly shown as being weak and stereotypically awkward, while Asian American females are either shown as exotic or also stereotypically awkward and nerdy, as stated by Takaki in his book Strangers from a Different Shore on page 479, Hopeful a college education can help them [the students] overcome racial obstacles, they realize the need to be serious about their studies. But white college students complain: Asian students are nerds. This very stereotype betrays nervousness fears that Asian American students are raising class grade curves. Though, these representations do only account for the three most popular Asian ethnic groups: Japanese, Chinese and Korean. The other Asian ethnic groups are mostly invisible to society, some groups, such as the Vietnamese Americans and the Hmong Americans, are known for their population size. These groups are also the groups that tend to live in areas that are largely populated with the same race, therefore, congregating to one area. On occasion, I am told that I look more Hawaiian than I do Asian due to my darker skin and bigger build. Though, I do hear a lot of comments regarding my eyes and about how little they are. The First Crusades During The Crusades Jeet Kothari Mr. Turner Honors British Literature A 29 January 2016 The First Crusades The First Crusades were military planned missions planned by Christian leaders; the proclaimed purpose was to recover Jerusalem as well as Antioch, which were in an area known as the Holy Land, from the controls of Turks. The reason why they feature so prominently in history is because they were one of the longest battles in history. All three of the Crusades lasted about 200 years. Additionally, the Crusades were a major reason for why Europe came out of the Dark Ages. After 200 years of darkness, Europe had a rebirth. The Crusades were not an early example of European colonization even if they did create some kingdoms there for a while. ( The Crusades ). It has been argued that the knights who went adventuring in the Crusades were the second and third sons of nobles who, because of European inheritance rules, had little to look forward by staying in Europe. However, most of the people who responded to the call to Crusade weren t knights at all; they were poor people. Secondly, most of nobles who did go crusading were lords of grand estates. In fact I witnessed a mother carrying a stroller with a child up the stairs. Once I was on the platform, I walked to the second exit/entrance and noticed another long stairwell to get out of the ... INTRODUCTION An unknown material can be determined by using simple chemical tests and separations which is called as inorganic qualitative analysis. The separation of cations depends on the difference in their propensity to form precipitates. Separation scheme is used to classify cation into five groups on the basis of their physical and chemical behavior opposed to some reagents. Classification is based on whether there is formation of precipitates or not when metal cations react with the reagent. The five groups of cations and the characteristics of these groups are as follows: i. Group I Ag+, Hg+, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3. Bones stop growing in length between the ages of 16 and 18, but continue to increase in density until you re in your late 20s. You gradually start to lose bone density from about 35 years of age. Women normally lose bone rapidly in the first few years. Osteoporosis can affect both men and women. It s more common in elderly people, but it can also affect younger people after the menopause. Women are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis than men because the hormone changes that occur in the menopause directly affects bone density. Chess is a mental battle that all be it is much shorter than life, it is still a battle that requires strategies in order to be successful. • 32. History Of Internet On The World Josh Margolis EMF140 November 2, 2015 History of Internet Before the the Internet was created, linking the world, human beings were already thinking with a connected mind. While messages obviously were unable to be transferred electronically, humans invented different ways to trade information and news with other people. Firstly was the post. In order to send a friend a message, a letter would have had to been written and mailed. Mailing messages was a long process, often taking days to get one message to another person. This method (still used today) was not the most convenient because there is no urgency or speed in mailing a letter. Luckily in the mid 1800 s the telegraph was invented. Sent for the first time in 1838, the telegraph was the first instance of sending a message (4). A telegraph is defined as the transmission of textual or symbolic messages without the physical exchange of an object. This is the first instance of a message being sent in a virtual sense (2). While messages could be delivered through the mail within a matter of days, a telegraph could be transmitted live. At the time this was quite a feat. When studying the creation of the internet, it is important to remember that not one single man directly created the web that we know today. Rather, many brilliant minds, over time, added and refined the experience for the greater good. Originally, the earliest version of the internet was constructed as a tool for US warfare. In the article, Hrusova explains that dance can help develop social skills and improve psychological health in addition to physical health, noting several other authors works on the subject. He shares the results of an experiment that was conducted with non professional dancers of two different genres of dance; street and modern (ten of each) in his article. The purpose of this experiment was to establish the current emotional state and background of the participants before they started dancing and see if possible changes occurred due to the effects of dancing. The dancers were both male and female (six female and four male street dancers, ten female modern dancers) between the ages of 17 and 36, and the only requirement was that the participants of this study attend dance classes at least two times a week. The positive factors that were measured in this experiment were psychological well being and activeness, and negative factors were anxious expectations, fears and sadness. Dancers were given a questionnaire as a pre test and post test before and after every class for a set period of time. The questionnaire consisted of 24 adjectives that described psychological experiences, feelings and emotional states that the dancers ranked on a scale of zero to four (zero meaning they never experienced the feeling at all and four meaning they experienced ... • 37. No Child Left Behind Was An Act Of Congress Proposed By... No Child Left Behind was an act of Congress proposed by President Bush January 23, 2001. The bill was coauthored by the following representatives: John Boehner (R OH), George Miller (D CA), and Senators Edward Kennedy (D MA) and Judd Gregg (R NH). The purpose of this bill was to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act which included Title 1, a program for disadvantaged youth. To receive federal funding schools must measure students using standardized assessments in particular grades. Each state has developed its own standard for how a student must perform on a given assessment. Before No Child Left Behind states took in billions of dollars for educational funding and were not held accountable for the funds allocated to them. Disadvantaged youth were written off as unable to be taught and they were pushed through the system receiving little to no education. Parents were denied the ability to know if their students were receiving quality education. Some speculate people against educational reform have incorrectly claimed that NCLB is an unfunded mandate. Brian Riedl of the Heritage Foundation noted, NCLB is neither unfunded nor a mandate. States are not obligated to accept funds in federal education aid NCLB offers. If a state wishes to not be held accountable for improving student achievement, or that prefer to do things a different way, they can simply decline the money. • 38. The Impact Of Modern Health Care On The United States Modern health care is a policy revolving around a system that allows individuals to access medical services in order to maintain or improve physical and mental health. There is not universal coverage throughout the world, and some individuals have the access and coverage vital to their wellbeing. In the last decade, healthcare cost have been rising at a steady rate on a worldly scale. Numerous industrialized and developed countries are being exposed to a steady fluctuation within the structure of the system, and the question on how to control and prevent further increases has yet to be solved. A large percentage of the GDP for developed countries is currently being spent on the healthcare system. Countries such as the United States spend around 17.7% of its GDP on healthcare, with the Netherlands spending the second most at around 11.9%. This widespread increase on healthcare expenditures is only going to increase as time progresses, unless a new universal system is implemented that will help control the cost worldwide. In many countries, millions of people suffer from illness because of their lack of resources, and appropriate access of health care they need. As a result of this, a large percentage of the population in the lesser developed regions are dying due to the nonexistence of treatment. Contrary to that, if medical attention is received, the costly services push them into poverty or financial deficit. In countries that have access to certain health services at an ... Physical and Behavioral Responses to Starvation and Famine in Two Populations Introduction Famine is an event in which food and resources are inaccessible and the majority of a population is endangered (Shipton, 1990). When applied to starvation this definition is accurate with one additional idea: starvation is the result of inaccessibility to resources. Many factors contribute to the progression of famine and the resulting starvation. One of the key factors to consider is the delineation between naturally occurring and man made starvation and famine. Naturally occurring famine is the result of agricultural or environmental causes such as lack of rainfall or poor soil conditions. Man made famine is the deliberate denial of food ... The study is an evaluation Page 3 2 and analysis of starvation in human subjects and is commonly used for interpreting starvation and famine experiences under less controlled populations and circumstances. The results of the study filled the urgent need after World War II for information on the physical changes that occur because of semi starvation and what approach should be taken in rehabilitating starving people. The parameters in addition to continuous residence at the Laboratory of Physiological Hygiene at the University of Minnesota included strict dietary controls during the three stages of the study: a twelve week control, a twenty four week semi starvation, and a twelve week period of restricted rehabilitation. The diet consumed during the semi starvation period reflected the diet typical of European areas that had or were experiencing famine. The food proportions and diets were adjusted to each subject according to body size and relative obesity (Keys et al., 1950). Detailed accounts of the physical responses of the subjects and morphology of the body as it underwent nutritional restriction were included in the study.
