The State Of Charter Schools
To understand the state of charter schools today, it is important to know how a charter school was
envisioned to be. Tell explains that charter schools, by nature, should be more accurately described as
contract schools. These schools are contractually obligated to serve the interest of the general public
by providing education opportunities using the funds provided from taxes. Traditionally, charter
schools are defined as tuition free, publicly funded, performance based, non sectarian, public schools
of choice open to all. [1] These schools are considered autonomous because they are exempt from
most, if not all, local and state rules and regulations regarding education. The reduction of applicable
laws pertaining to these schools are supposed to liberate them from the supposedly strict regulations
that bog down the education system that prevent teachers from what they were actually hired to do: to
teach. Although novel in concept, this idea has been difficult to implement in reality. To better
understand the state of charter schools today, it is important to understand its history. The first charter
school law of the United States began in Minnesota in 1991 and has since then spread throughout the
United States to 43 states, and Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. These schools today compromise of
approximately 6% of public schools, and enroll 2.5 million students annually.[2] Charter schools open
annually throughout these states, but more interestingly, many close as

Control In Night
As a child growing up in Sighet, Eliezer and his family looks much like an ordinary and close knit
family today. That is until they were taken away where all control over life is striped away and as a
result has his destiny chose by chance (Wiesel 22). During his time in Auschwitz, he has no choice of
what he does. His only choice is to fight to survive. Eliezer simply does what he is told, when he is
told, so he is not punished.
Before this however, he has complete control over what he does in life, and it is his choice of studying
Kabbalah (Wiesel 4). He studies the Talmud and adheres to his parents belief in Orthodox Judaism.
During his days Eliezer often goes to prayers and speaks to Moishe about the ways of God. He seems
to be fascinated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An illustration of this is shown when Eliezer gets the infection in his foot, but because of this him and
his father are given the option of staying in Buna or leaving with the others.
Within Night it shows that a normal person has control over their life. While a child Eliezer makes his
own decisions or has his parents make them, his life is controlled by choice. Eliezer in this stage is a
great example of how a person s life is naturally controlled by choice and not chance. However, when
Eliezer is in the concentration camps he has his life chosen by chance. This shows how Eliezer s
choice is stole from him during his time at Buna and Auschwitz.
To conclude, I would like to state, as a boy, Eliezer has control over his life and how he will live it.
But during his containment Eliezer s life is controlled mostly by chance. Eliezer has choice when
young but after being shipped to Buna he had this right stolen from him. Night in its simplest form is a
story of Eliezer losing his choice in life and this being filled by chance. This is shown when Eliezer
says The choice was in our hands. For once. We could decide our fate for ourselves (Wiesel

Ethical Issues In Social Media
The usage of social media and other electronic communication is rising very quickly as numbers of
social media platforms, applications and outlets are continuing to advance. Many people use online
journals, social media platforms, online chat rooms and symposium to connect personally, also
professionally with others. Social media is an intriguing and beneficial gadget when used correctly.
The nature of social media, however, can act as a risk as it attempts direct posting freedom that
permits very minimal time to reflect on the post and carries an additional burden that what is posted
on the web is detectable by a court of law even when it has been deleted a long time ago. This paper
aims to explain while there are ethical issues and risks related to the utilization social media, when
used properly it can benefit healthcare professionals in many ways, including fostering profession
participation and connections, promoting timely patient doctor communication, and protecting patient
privacy and confidentiality. Background What is social media? Social media are computer mediated
technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other
forms of expression via virtual communities and networks Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Social
media usage offers many potential benefits for healthcare professionals and patients, but it can also
bring potential risks for both professionals and patients safety and privacy, if managed poorly.

Importance Of Allocation Of Land In Kenya
24.1 Allocation of public land It involves the state or the government transferring its rights, use, and
ownership of land to the citizens of the country, According to section 12(1) of the Land Act, the
National Land Commission (NLC) has responsibilities of allocating public land on behalf of the
National or County Governments.(Source: Guides on Land Administration in Kenya). Alienation of
land to members is done by passing through the following law applications which include Local
Government Act, Physical Planning Act, Land Control Act, Government Land Act, and others.
Planning process on public land are drawn up by the National Land Commission so as to prepare for
physical development and these plans should be approved by the various physical planning officers
for confirmation or any changes and then transferred to the final office known as the ministry of land
for approval then to the Department of surveyors to survey the land and various measurements and
others process that follow afterwards during the development process .The main disadvantage of this
process is acquiring a land title after allocation of land can be very long and tedious. The steps
involved during the procedure of acquiring a title deed after allocation of public land include
acceptance of an offer to the National Land Commission, land surveying, preparation of lease
documents, clearance of payments (stamp duty and getting the rent and clearance certificate), and
registration of the lease. 2.4.2 Adjudication It can be defined as recording rights and interests of land/
existing rights and claims of people to land. This process is governed by the Land Adjudication Act
Cap 287, adjudication is also when a title to land is registered for the first time/ first stage in the
registration of title to land in areas where the ownership of the parcel of land is unknown. After the
land adjudication process, a land adjudication register is created. The adjudication register is
composed of a demarcation map and adjudication record. Each parcel number of land is indicated on
the map which corresponds to the adjudication record that contains the registration section, parcel
number, name of the owner, and size of the land and details of the registry map

A Trend Oriented Power System Security
A TREND ORIENTED POWER SYSTEM SECURITY ANALYSIS METHOD BASED ON LOAD
PROFILE Power system security is an important aspect in the present generation. Power system
security must also be economical. We can t predict the fault at every time, so based on trend analysis
method on load profile in this paper we are going to see the various methods which help for the
protection of the power system. So we should carefully monitor the security. By these methods
discussed in the paper we are to form security indices which helps us to calculate the faults in
advance. With these methods when problem occurs in real time we will have the security indices to
respond faster to find out the solution for the problem and also we can protect in advance.
Introduction: Power system analysis is important part of power systems. According to the
mathematical model we can divide security analysis into two types 1. Static analysis 2. Dynamic
analysis Dynamic security analysis is more focused on the behavior subsequent to a contingency,
power system oscillatory modes, frequency instability. In this paper we are going to study about static
analysis. Now moving on to the trend analysis theory it is developed from stock and commodity
markets. This analysis is majorly successful in medical and mechanical fields, now it is widely used in
electrical systems. Trend analysis theory has its own applications in electrical field such as signal
processing, load forecasting, fault

What Are The Factors That Affect Eating Healthy
If I had to be honest, I have always known that my eating habits could use some work. I do not eat
enough foods that are nutrient dense, and I consume too many fats. However, this also reminds me
that I have improved my habits a little. For example, Before I started college and really started this
journey towards healthy living I could have easily eaten a whole Hershey s chocolate bar, but instead I
only ate a half, and that half was not in one whole sitting. Another example is related to the items I had
for breakfast. Usually, I would get the tater tots that serve with breakfast, but I chose to get an apple
instead because I knew it would be healthier for me. With this said, I do not eat breakfast on a regular
basis. I am good about eating lunch and dinner, but I have a bad habit of not getting a meal first thing
in the morning. While I may not eat three meals a day, I do not snack that often. There will be some
days that I will have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My parents did buy healthy foods throughout my child, but they would do so when it lined up with
their goals of eating healthy and exercising. However, eating healthy was not a common occurrence,
and has lead to me not eating healthy all the time. Another factor that has affected my eating habits is
my stress because as a student I am under a lot of stress. Between studying, reading, and classes there
is a lot to deal with. When I am stressed, I usually want to eat something that reminds of home and is
simple, but also translates into something unhealthy. The biggest factor related to my eating habits is
simply being in college. Stress is related to that, but being in college itself is a factor since I have little
control over what I eat. I can make decisions about what to eat based on what is available. However,
what is available is not always good which makes it difficult to eat food that is both healthy and

Metaphor As A Metaphor
Phrases like in a hurry , a close relationship , Juliet is the sun and many others are commonly used and
easily understood although they are not literal. Such phrases are metaphoric in feature. What is
metaphor then? Metaphor is defined in terms of substituting one word for another with an apparently
different meaning (Ritchie, 2013). Although metaphor was once considered as a stylistic issue, a
rhetoric device, a poetic reference or decorative speech, now it has been extended to linguistics and
cognitive psychology, and has been an issue in language, thought, cognition and communication.
Burke (1945) regards metaphor as a device for seeing something in terms of something else. This
simple definition of metaphor says that metaphor has two distinct ideas which lie in the core of
metaphor. In order to understand one better, the other idea is used. Littlemore and Low (2006a) state
that metaphor involves one entity in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For them metaphor is a matter of thought rather than language. Lakoff and Johnson (1980) extended
the definition of metaphor further and introduced Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT). They claim
that concepts are metaphorically structured, so metaphors play a significant role in organizing and
functioning ideas in human conceptual system. They define metaphor not only as thinking about
something in terms of something else, but also experiencing something as something else. Since
human activities and experiences are metaphorical, we talk about things in the way that we perceive
them. Human conceptual system is structured by metaphors, in other words, it is metaphoric in nature.
This is grounded in experience and culture. Some metaphors are so deeply rooted in human thought
that they are metaphors we live by or they are conceptual in nature (Lakoff and

Rosemary is another thing that is in gum that helps you remember as well. Natural caffeine creates
energy which gets blood flowing faster which means they can concentrate better.
The ingredients that are in the gum I will be using are peppermint, gum base, sorbitol, mannitol,
maltitol, less than 2% of acacia, artificial and natural flavoring, titanium dioxide(color),sodium
stearate, aspartame, acesulfame, BHT( to stay fresh),and lactose free milk. Peppermint is the main
ingredient in the gum. Kate Morgan from the British Psychological Society says that gum does help
you concentrate. Another source says that gum does help you concentrate because chewing gum
creates more blood flow.
A part in the brain called hippocampus is very important to memory. Hippocampus is the vital key to
remembering and it is also vital to emotions. It also helps you make new memories so you aren t just
remembering the past. The cerebral cortex is also very important. It helps you do things without you
thinking about them. Examples of what the cerebral cortex does is breathing, how to swallow, or to

Ethical Issues Present in the Distilled Spirits Industry
Introduction Accounting for over $120 billion of economic activity in 2010, the distilled spirits
industry is a prominent piece of the beverage industry as a whole. The alcohol industry is growing
rapidly in foreign markets, especially in countries such as China and Brazil. In the United States alone,
this industry generates over 3.9 million jobs and contributed about $8.8 billion directly to state and
local revenues (The Industry s Role section, para. 1). Team TOTs will discuss the ethical issues that
are prevalent in the distilled spirits industry, pressures facing the industry as well as investment policy
recommendations that VTF should follow. Ethical Issues The challenges the distilled spirits industry
face fall under two main categories, health and advertising. According to the National Institute on
Alcohol Abuse and Addiction, the use of alcohol is the third leading preventable cause of death in the
US (2014). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that heavy alcohol abuse can lead to
a number of health issues, including cardiovascular, neurological, psychiatric, and social problems, as
well as cancer, liver disease, and sometimes death (2014). In addition to the consequences to
consumers health and wellbeing, the industry must also manage the challenge of responsible
marketing. Underage drinking is a serious, prominent issue in the US. Out of the 80,000 people who
die each year from alcohol related causes, 5,000 minors die from as a result of

High school students throughout the United States are now being exposed to the long standing debate
between evolution and religion through the play, Inherit The Wind, by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E.
Lee. This play, molded around the lawyer, Clarence Darrow, who was portrayed by Henry Drummond,
describes the events of the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial. Furthermore, Henry Drummond was a key part
in this whole play because he accurately portrayed the strong willed values of Clarence Darrow as he
fought for John Scope s rights to teach evolution in a public school. Nonetheless, how should history
think of him today? In short, Darrow was raised in a rather unconventional house hold. His father was

this reason, Darrow helped the adaptation of education drastically. Without him it would have taken

The Privacy Act Of 1988 Essay
According to Dictionary.com confidentiality is the right of an individual to have personal, identifiable
medical information kept private. The definition for this term is widely known in health care, but
when it is applied to adolescents many people do not understand the basics. Doctors are responsible
for informing adolescent patients and their parents the privacy a minor is given according to federal
and state laws, but in some cases doctors fail to do so. This results in the misunderstanding of minor s
privacy rights, which can lead to the adolescent patient not disclosing significant information, and the
parents assuming they have the right to all of their child s medical records. Because of this, it is
important for adolescents and their parents to understand the nature of confidentiality in health care.
Many people are unsure of the rights granted to minors because of the laws in place, or the lack of
laws in place. In fact there are laws, such as the Privacy Act of 1988 that could be a reason people are
confused about the rights minors have to confidentiality. This act is directly described in a professional
practice article when Bird (2007), stated that an adolescent s health information can be released to a
guardian, but in circumstances where a minor is capable of making their own medical decisions, they
should be allowed to do so (p. 655). Bird further explained that If an adolescent is able to consent to
their own medical treatment, then they are

I Was Only 19 Analysis
I was only nineteen poem analysis
Society is gradually becoming desensitized to the horror through the constant exposure of dreadful
crimes and conflict around the world in the media. War poetry has the power and ability to provoke
deep, hidden emotions from readers and listeners. It allows them to acknowledge a deeper
understanding and makes them more conscious of the tragedy and futility of war. However, modern
war poetry paints vivid images of the experiences in wars and gives better insight into the ethics of
war. The audience becomes more aware of the ethical issues associated with the Vietnam War through
powerful imagery and poetic devices.
I was only nineteen written by John Schumann helps readers to visualize the appalling conditions and

The Irish Potato Famine
Research Paper: Irish Potato Famine
Beginning in 1845 and lasting for six years, the potato famine killed over a million men, women and
children in Ireland and caused another million to flee the country (The History Place Introduction).
During the 1840s many Irish citizens lived in poverty. For food, the Irish relied almost entirely on
potatoes because of their low cost and nutritional value. Then a devastating potato blight began in
Europe in 1845 and destroyed the crops every year until 1851. Due to Ireland s poor government the
citizens we not able to recover from the famine quickly.
Before the famine in the mid 1800s, many English politicians and social reformers began to think that
Ireland was a nation in need of transformation, that it s people now needed to be yanked into the
modern world by tossing out the old Gaelic traditions (The History Place Before the Famine). The
English reformers wanted to end Ireland s cycle of poverty and misfortune because in the 1800s
poverty was thought to be caused by bad moral character (The History Place Before the Famine). The
English politicians and social reformers also wanted to change the laid back lifestyle of the Irish
peasants. They professed the virtues of hard work, thrift and self reliance and regarded the Irish as
totally lacking in these qualities, a point of view also shared by many British officials and politicians
(The History Place Before the Famine).

The Colonialization Of North America During The Colonial...
North America during the Colonial period had resources the Europeans dreamed about. For example,
the mighty Mississippi River for trading and transportation, the pine trees for lumber, and the rich soil
in the south for growing crops. The Europeans saw the potential of economic opportunity in North
America. The Native Americans viewed North America as sacred and took care of their land as much
as possible. When the Europeans arrived, the deer population plummeted due to the need of meat from
the Europeans. The New England colonists realized that the soil in New England was unreliable
because of the unfertile soil and the weather. When the Europeans came to North America, they
carried numerous diseases with them. Keep in mind that the Europeans traveled by ship for months
and some ships had an infestation of rats and mosquitoes. Vaccinations did not exist during the
Exploration years so, explorers and the Natives had diseases of small pox, pneumonia, and yellow
fever. The Native Americans were dying by the numbers because of the European diseases that they
came into contact with the Europeans. Several Native American tribes had healers which the
Europeans thought were Doctors. The Native Americans used nuts, berries, and certain plants to heal
either a snakebite, scratch, wounds from animal attacks, and skin diseases. The Europeans thought that
some of the Indian practices were witchcraft because of the heavy European Christian beliefs. The
Native Americans actually helped to cure several European diseases. When the first Colonists of
Virginia arrived, the population was declining because of the disease and starvation. As time went on,
the immigrants from Europe began to increase due to the Civil War, crowded population, or famine.
The Europeans tasted other different food sources that the Native Americans had grown such as,
pumpkins, potatoes, beans, corn, tomatoes, and squash. These crops were foreign to the Europeans.
The Native Americans used food as a peace offering to the Europeans as a sign of hospitality. The
trade between the Europeans and the Indians were challenging according to the Europeans. Some of
the Native Americans were open to trading and exchanging ideas to the Europeans. As long as

Introduction. This Paper Describes The Headline Findings
INTRODUCTION
This paper describes the headline findings from Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) on the
extent of, and trends in, domestic abuse among the black women in the United Kingdom aged 18 to
45, who are the resident in households of England and Wales. Domestic abuse includes a number of
various forms of physical as well as non physical abuse consisting of partner and family abuse, sexual
assault and stalking. The abuse can be either of the victim offender relationship or of the abuse in
itself. In the year ending March 2011 CSEW, a split sample experiment was started to test a set of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Dispute Resolution
CHAPTER II
ARBITRATION OF INTERNATIONAL COMMERCIAL DISPUTES
2.1 Introduction
?The realisation, in the words of Lord Simon of Glaisdale, that litigation, while certainly preferable to
personal violence is not in itself an intrinsically desirable activity, has encouraged the search for other
methods of dispute resolution each of which has attracted it adherents and enthusiasts. One of the
oldest and best established of these systems is that of arbitration.?[footnoteRef:1] [1: Galway City
Council v Samuel Kingston Construction Ltd [2010] 3 IR 95. O?Donnell J]
There has been a wide range of debate to create a more expeditious dispute resolution method for
settling commercial disputes amongst businessmen and lawyers who are involved with international
trade across national borders.[footnoteRef:2] Until recently, commercial courts were congested due to
the number of commercial disputes pending before them. There was a need for other dispute
resolution methods to bridge this gap, expedite matters and to promote business transactions.
Arbitration, mediation and conciliation were adopted by states to supplement the normal court system.
However, we are yet to reach that point where one can boldly say that, the alternative dispute
resolution methods to the courts are expedient. [2: Herbert Buston, ?Arbitration of International
Commercial Disputes? (1964 1965) 6 Boxton College Industrial Commercial Law Review 569]

Analysis Of Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber
IT S NOT ABOUT THE SIZE, IT S HOW YOU USE IT
How short stories pack the perfect punch in promoting feminist ideals.
The limited trajectory of short narrative concentrates its meaning. Sign and sense can fuse to an extent
impossible to achieve among the multiplying ambiguities of an extended narrative. Angela Carter
Angela Carter is known in the literary community for her use of fairytales and overt sexual imagery in
promoting feminist platforms. At the time she wrote The Bloody Chamber , the Second Wave of
Feminism and, subsequently, the rise of radical libertarian feminism were crashing into the forefront
of the global politics. This wave of feminism primarily focused on the empowerment of women
through the exploration of female sexual identity, the promotion of androgynous females as the ideal
model for the modern woman, and the liberation of women from the patriarchal societal traditions
established to keep women in their submissive gender role (Formizano). Angela Carter transforms the
classic fairytale Bluebeard into a masterful portrait of female sexual liberation, empowerment through
gender role reversal, and financial independence in The Bloody Chamber . A central dogma of
feminism is the separation of female sexuality from the societal confines of reproduction. In The
Bloody Chamber , the female protagonist is a seventeen year old virgin who goes on a journey of
sexual self actualization in her marriage to the Marquis. Throughout the narrative, we are

Examples Of Self In Zootopia
Anyone can be Anything: How is Self Shaped by Individuals and Society.
In the movie Zootopia, racial profiling and social stereotypes are allegorized into distinctive,
discriminatory groups of predator prey and species archetypes such as slow sloths, sly foxes and dumb
bunnies. Most reviews praised the movie s thematic portrayals of stereotypes (e.g. Telegraph, New
York Times) and universal values of freedom and perseverance (e.g. Washington Post) within the film
s narrative. But few reviews address Zootopia s exploration of variations of identity as noted by
Screen Crush, and none displayed any in depth analysis of self. Hence, this essay seeks to explore self
in Zootopia. Within the city of Zootopia, the recurring slogan In Zootopia, anyone can be anything ,
seemingly gives the anthropological characters an equal opportunity to pursue their dreams regardless
of their species. Thus, Zootopian citizens have the freedom to construct their self. As defined in Scott
Cohen s essay Chasing A Myth? Searching for Self Through Lifestyle Travel , self is each individual s
reflexive sense of her or his identity, constituted vis a vis others in terms of similarity and difference.

Human history literacy rates have continued to hike. Children now attend school than at any other
point in history. Although nations have made immense progress, many are still far from reaching the
universal goals of education. The importance of early education cannot be emphasized enough. As
famous scholars had noted in human history, education is the precondition for success and
unconstrained prospects. Educated citizens are the foundation for a nation s sustainable economic and
social development (Park 23). According to a study done by UNESCO and World Bank, currently
there are over 400 million children at the elementary level who are not attending school. Even the rest
of the millions who are attending schools are not being prepared adequately for life after school.
Solving these problems ought to be the utmost goal for any nation. As a parent, one cannot fail to see
how important education is for a child. As a politician, one recognizes the importance of having a
government with highly equipped labor force. Transforming education, however is not an easy task
bearing in mind that there are challenges everywhere from the shortage of teachers, resources and use
of inadequate curricula. It is therefore imperative that nations rise and act consequently before they
expose another generation to the same problems (Awa Plaumann 101). This paper shall carefully
examine early childhood education and the effectiveness of the universal interventions made globally.

Himmler And Macbeth Corruption
Architects of Death: Corruption of Power
Both Himmler and Macbeth were good men before they became corrupted by the promise of power.
As the sagas of their lives unfolded, they fell victim to corruption; it was the one constant throughout
both of their reigns. Once corruption took hold only violence could follow. They had blood stained
hands when they came to power; in both instances, it was the predominant reason they were elevated
to their new positions. It is as difficult to imagine their reigns without violence as it is with the
violence they implemented. Macbeth oppressed the population of Scotland, swiftly and
indiscriminately killing any who opposed him. Himmler was the primary architect of the Final
Solution, which saw over 11,000,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only people that remain in his castle are servants who have little choice in the matter. However,
Macbeth s resolve remains unshaken because of the witches second apparition, who said; laugh to
scorn/ The power of man, for none of woman born/ Shall harm Macbeth (IV.I.85 87). This convinced
Macbeth that nobody could kill him since all people are of woman born (he was born by Caesarian
Section). The third apparition said; Macbeth shall never vanquish d be until/ Great Birnam wood to
high Dunisdane hill/ Shall come against him (IV.I.100 102). This only served to further Macbeth s
overconfidence because he took what the apparitions told him literally and was certain that a forest
could never move. He incorrectly assumed that the witches had his best interests at heart and were
trying to genuinely help him. In Act 5 Scene 8, Macduff reveals to Macbeth that he; was from his

deceived by the witches because Macduff is technically not of woman born. Himmler also met his end
due to deception; in late 1944 it was obvious for many in Nazi Germany that the war was lost, even a
fanatic such as Himmler. In the spring of 1945 Himmler reached out to Eisenhower (supreme
commander of allied forces) via Swedish diplomat Folke Bernadotte (Anderson 3). Himmler tried to

Realism in Uncle Vanya and a Doll s House
A play serves as the author s tool for critiquing society. One rarely encounters the ability to transcend
accepted social beliefs. These plays reflect controversial issues that the audience can relate to because
they interact in the same situations every day. As late nineteenth century playwrights point out the
flaws of mankind they also provide an answer to the controversy. Unknowingly the hero or heroine
solves the problem at the end of the play and indirectly sends a message to the audience on how to
solve their own problem. br br Henrik Ibsen and Anton Chekov both provide unique analysis on issues
their culture never thought as wrong. In the play A Doll s House Ibsen tackles women s rights as a
matter of importance being neglected. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Because of the war, we became the lord of the world. It spent us forty years to spread before we

the other countries which was also very important was called Canada. .During World War Two, they
won a lot of battles such as Battle of Dieppe , Battle of Ortona and Normandy Landing as well. The
three battles were very important for Canada because they were the sign to show how brave and

Kurtz Racist Quotes
One of the most reoccuring themes in the novel Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, is the theme of
race, more specifically, racism by the European and American characters towards the African
characters. Critics of the book condemn Conrad as being racist, while others claim that it is just
representative of the time period and that how Conrad depicted certain characters and groups within
the novel was not uncommon during the time period that the book was written. Published in 1899, at
that time it was not unusual for white people to have racist views towards people of other races.

being superior to the African people. He [Kurtz] began with the argument that we whites, from the

supernatural beings we approach them with the might of a deity, (Part 2) Here, Kurtz is saying how
ever since the white people arrived in Africa, it is important that they appeared and continue to appear
to the Africans as supernatural and godlike . When Kurtz makes this comment he is exemplifying just
how much he believes he and white people are above the Africans because he thinks this is how the
Africans actually view white people. This shows that he truly believes the African men are nowhere
near the same level that the white people are. He goes as far to say that the Africans should view white
people as supernatural and with the might of a god , which are both clearly not statements that are
casually made to compare different races of people, or how different races should view one another.

My National Identity Lies With Hong Kong Essay
I was born in Hong Kong. Although Hong Kong is not a nation and is a part of China, my national
identity lies with Hong Kong. After the British took control of Hong Kong, Hong Kong became more
prosperous and adopted a capitalist system (Rothman, 2014). Due to the democratic freedom that the
capitalist system gave, the citizens of Hong Kong became pro democracy (Rothman, 2014). Hence,
before Hong Kong was back under China s control, the U.K. and China agreed upon one country, two
systems (Rothman, 2014). One country, two systems means that under China, Hong Kong is allowed
to use the capitalist system they have adopted. After the re assimilation of Hong Kong, tensions
between China and Hong Kong rose due to political and cultural differences (Chan, 2014). Many
citizens of Hong Kong believe that calling themselves Chinese is demeaning and instead refer to
themselves as Hongkongers (Chan, 2014). I also share that belief which is why my national identity
lies with Hong Kong and not China. Hong Kong s national identity is unique because Hong Kong was
once under British control. Their culture is a mix of Western and Chinese. Hence, the role of gender
and the appearance of a family in the self image of the nation vastly differs from China.
The culture of Hong Kong has shaped my national identity to reject being recognized as Chinese.
Often I am prompted to indicate my country of birth, although Hong Kong is not a country, I always

Multinational Banks and Financial Institutions
People in the modern world keep their funds stored in some type of financial institution, whether it s a
small local bank that only operates in a small town or a large multinational bank that has offices in
every major city around the world and caters to millions of people. With the responsibility of handling
the assets of millions of people banks are sometimes accused for activities that may be illegal, such as
money laundering: the method of concealing illegally acquired money or invasion of a client s
account. Unlike small banks, Multinational banks are the most susceptible to these accusations.
Multinational banks have to abide to the laws of multiple countries and any action they do could cause
controversy, whether it s considered good in the bank s eyes or if it s genuinely bad. While fiscal
government policies that affect revenue collection and expenditure set the limits for multinational
banks, ultimately multinational banks should be held to a higher international set of regulations. Their
actions may be legal in some countries while illegal in others, causing various problems that could
lead to the closure of offices in one country due to an action in another. Therefore, an international
governing body should be created to regulate t multinational banks and keep from getting in trouble
with national governments who have unique restrictions. Over the past decade the banking system has
globalized rapidly in foreign ownership of bank assets. Gyongyi Loranth, a

Advantages to the Industrial Revolution in Early Modern...
Prior to industrialization, the population of Europe saw a dramatic growth from 110,000,000 to
190,000,000. What triggered this growth? Likely the end of feudalism. The end of feudal contracts
gave people a little more say in their day to day working activities, resulting in more time spent at
home, which ultimately resulted in childbearing. This would leave citizens scrambling both to provide
needs for the population as a whole, and to improve the individuals overall quality of life. This
resulted in economists, like Adam Smith in The Wealth of Nations (1776), examining the most cost
effective method of producing the goods and services citizens demanded (such as clothing and food).
It also left others, such as Thomas Malthus in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was essential because the population boom that occurred from 1650 1800, where population
climbed from 110,000,000 to 119,000,000, created the need for materials food and clothing to be
produced faster to sustain growth. Machines such as the scribbling mill, and spinning jenny did the
work of a hundred hands, for every single human hand. Initially these machines were met by workers
with despair, as one machine in twelve hours could do the work of ten men by hand . These machines
also reduced labour by a third, which resulted in an increase in wage for workers and it also worked to
increase trade since nations were about to compete with one another for cheaper resources . From an
economic standpoint this shift in labour was beneficial to the masses because instead of people
exerting themselves to compete with other nations, machinery could just take on the majority of the
work, assisting in this movement. This benefitted business owners because they did not need as many
labourers, and they could also afford to lower taxes. Smith declares the invisible hand as a necessity
for society because capitalism drives people to seek cheaper sources, and in return if you provide that
you will ultimately gain wealth.
Adam Smith wrote in The Wealth of Nations that division of labour was the greatest improvement
resulting from the industrial revolution. Division of labour was beneficial to both the employee and
the employer. The

Innovation Policy in Brazil
As technological globalization advances and technological change progresses more quickly than ever
in the past, one of the central dimensions to gain an understanding of how Latin American countries
are posed to answer to these new challenges concerns changes in their science and innovation policy.
Developing cohesive innovation policies is one of the key challenges Brazil faces as the country
strives to emerge in the global economy characterized by quick progresses because government
decision may either encourage or hinder the Brazilian NIS .
By looking at the recent developments in the Innovation Policy framework in Brazil, the technological
efforts are clear but emerges that the problem with innovation in Brazil is the added costs associated
with the country s weak institu¬tional framework and poor legal enforcement.
The roots of Modern Brazil Innovation policy system starts during Cold War.
In 1951 Brazil sees the creation of two national agencies, the National Research Council, CNPq (today
called National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) and CAPES with the
responsibility to coordinate the programs of postgraduate education. The system is consolidated later

The Scream Is One Of The Most Recognized Pieces Of Art
Edvard Munch s painting The Scream is one of the most recognized pieces of art throughout history.
He created this masterpiece in the year of 1893 and continued on to create three different versions of
the painting (Paulson). The image shows a deathly pale, skull shaped head man clutching his hands
over his ears, facing the audience, screaming with his mouth opened wide. There are two silhouettes
behind the screaming man on the left hand side of the bridge, while the sky is bloody and the water in
the fjord rushing. On Edvard Munch s official website, the biography mentions that Munch grew up

him and his younger siblings with their emotionally detached father, who would torment them about
going to hell and burning, among other issues (Munch). The emotional torment Munch went through
in his early life, plagued him throughout his life and career, which resulted him creating many
different works of art with the sense of loneliness and desperation. Munch s use of contrast and
composition symbolizes the representation of man; the inner turmoil one may face throughout life.
Munch s use of a bold composition intends to show the viewers the intended form and structure of the
painting. There are three dynamic lines within the painting: the line for railing, the line for the blood

The Issue Of Personal Identity Essay
If persons persist over time then by what criteria do we determine their identity at different times?
This is the issue of personal identity over time which continues to plague philosophers. What is it that
allows me to say I am the same person today as I was yesterday or I will be tomorrow? Am I actually
the same person? There has been no general consensus on the answer to this question. However many
have proposed solutions to this question. When it comes to this hard problem of why persons last or
persist over time there are two opposing points of view points. There is the perdurance or four
dimensionalism view, which maintains that objects persist as a series of temporal parts that are simply
related to each other. The other view is that of endurance which states that objects endure over time by
being wholly present at each and every time they exist and must be numerically identical to each other
in order to be the same thing, in such a way that they are one and the same. This paper seeks to
explore what is the criterion or criteria of person identity by which we determine one person at one
time and a person at another time to be one and the same. In order to answer this question the
perdurance and endurance approaches to the problem of personal identity over time will be explored.
These views will be explored through the discussion of four prominent philosophers in the views. In
this paper I will propose ultimately Rosenkranzt s endurance view, the theory of

Light Undertones In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Inside numerous literary works of art can be several concealed messages that take into account the

to provide a mindset for the selection and intrigue the audience. Light undertones, including
symbolism, metaphors, and other poetic methodologies, may allow for a writer to fulfil what they are

training is not necessarily to the cause of injury. Instead, poor technique, excessive loading, poorly

indicate a low risk of injury in children and adolescents who follow age appropriate training

The Importance Of Reflection In Nursing
As higher standards expected are from the public and higher patient safety demands are expected from
health boards, therefore, there is a need for a way of measuring standards of practice which can be
achieved through active thinking in a clinical environment brought about by critical reflection (Rolfe,
Jasper Freshwater 2011). Reflection has become such a key component in the role of a nurse that the
Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) have seen it fit to include it in their professional code of
conduct the Code: Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour for Nurses and Midwives,
hereafter referred to as the Code (Nursing Midwifery Council [NMC], 2015). With reflection being a
vital skill for nurses to continue their professional development (Parrish Crookes, 2013), an analysis
of what it means to reflect within nursing is needed by all who intend to enter the profession to ensure
its effective use is applied. This essay will look at what reflection in nursing looks like, why we use
reflection as a tool, what are the outcomes of reflecting, how we reflect effectively and what skills are
needed. Then, using an experience within practice, a reflective model will be used to analyse a critical
incident relating to consent. In accordance with the confidentiality measure within The code (NMC,
2015) and to abide by the Data Protection Act 1998, no information will be provided which could
allude to the identity of anyone within the critical incident, thus pseudonyms will be used where
appropriate. According to Howston Jones (2013) reflection is not something that is out of the ordinary
for everyone to do in their everyday lives. Reflection is the act of looking back on a situation, event or
incident critically and making sense of it to learn from it and alter our actions to gain better outcomes
should the same incident arise again (Capelhow, Crouch, Fisher Walsh, 2013). As new experiences
happen to everyone, everyday; it would be right to consider reflection as an ongoing process within
everyone s life, a process that is repeated, honed and a skill to be developed (McKenna, 1998).
Reflection is a tool that is used within many disciplines including teaching and within the legal

Time To Rebuild; The Department of Defense Must be...
The Department of Defense takes up the majority of the US budget; it not only pulls in over a trillion
dollars of taxpayer money yearly, but it also is unable to accurately account for the exact whereabouts
of those funds year after year. The DoD does, of course, offer its own budget, however, due to the
byzantine and ineffective nature of the Federal Bureaucracy, it is impossible to verify if the money is
even so much as used for its intended purpose. Looking at this budget, two sections stand out as
bloated, which is a statement in a budget that is packed with Pork barrel spending: Procurement, and
Maintenance. Ultimately, should these two areas of the budget be reasonably downsized, and the
others thoroughly audited, the DoD s operating expenses could be reduced drastically, much to the
taxpayer s benefit. Procurement is, by far, the easiest section of the budget to pare down; a few simple
reforms in regards to the process by which government contracts are granted, coupled with the
elimination of several pork barrel programs, could save federal government millions of dollars. In
regards to contracts, all deals should be strictly held to the original price and time frame; While that
might seem like an obvious step, it is in fact a great leap forward for the DoD, where most programs
go over budget. A Poignant example of this is the F 35 fighter jet, which has cost taxpayers 100 billion
more than expected, and is 7 years behind on production. Further more, if regulations

  • 2. The State Of Charter Schools To understand the state of charter schools today, it is important to know how a charter school was envisioned to be. Tell explains that charter schools, by nature, should be more accurately described as contract schools. These schools are contractually obligated to serve the interest of the general public by providing education opportunities using the funds provided from taxes. Traditionally, charter schools are defined as tuition free, publicly funded, performance based, non sectarian, public schools of choice open to all. [1] These schools are considered autonomous because they are exempt from most, if not all, local and state rules and regulations regarding education. The reduction of applicable laws pertaining to these schools are supposed to liberate them from the supposedly strict regulations that bog down the education system that prevent teachers from what they were actually hired to do: to teach. Although novel in concept, this idea has been difficult to implement in reality. To better understand the state of charter schools today, it is important to understand its history. The first charter school law of the United States began in Minnesota in 1991 and has since then spread throughout the United States to 43 states, and Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. These schools today compromise of approximately 6% of public schools, and enroll 2.5 million students annually.[2] Charter schools open annually throughout these states, but more interestingly, many close as ... Importance Of Allocation Of Land In Kenya 24.1 Allocation of public land It involves the state or the government transferring its rights, use, and ownership of land to the citizens of the country, According to section 12(1) of the Land Act, the National Land Commission (NLC) has responsibilities of allocating public land on behalf of the National or County Governments.(Source: Guides on Land Administration in Kenya). Alienation of land to members is done by passing through the following law applications which include Local Government Act, Physical Planning Act, Land Control Act, Government Land Act, and others. Planning process on public land are drawn up by the National Land Commission so as to prepare for physical development and these plans should be approved by the various physical planning officers for confirmation or any changes and then transferred to the final office known as the ministry of land for approval then to the Department of surveyors to survey the land and various measurements and others process that follow afterwards during the development process .The main disadvantage of this process is acquiring a land title after allocation of land can be very long and tedious. The steps involved during the procedure of acquiring a title deed after allocation of public land include acceptance of an offer to the National Land Commission, land surveying, preparation of lease documents, clearance of payments (stamp duty and getting the rent and clearance certificate), and registration of the lease. 2.4.2 Adjudication It can be defined as recording rights and interests of land/ existing rights and claims of people to land. This process is governed by the Land Adjudication Act Cap 287, adjudication is also when a title to land is registered for the first time/ first stage in the registration of title to land in areas where the ownership of the parcel of land is unknown. Such phrases are metaphoric in feature. What is metaphor then? Metaphor is defined in terms of substituting one word for another with an apparently different meaning (Ritchie, 2013). Although metaphor was once considered as a stylistic issue, a rhetoric device, a poetic reference or decorative speech, now it has been extended to linguistics and cognitive psychology, and has been an issue in language, thought, cognition and communication. Burke (1945) regards metaphor as a device for seeing something in terms of something else. The definition for this term is widely known in health care, but when it is applied to adolescents many people do not understand the basics. Doctors are responsible for informing adolescent patients and their parents the privacy a minor is given according to federal and state laws, but in some cases doctors fail to do so. This results in the misunderstanding of minor s privacy rights, which can lead to the adolescent patient not disclosing significant information, and the parents assuming they have the right to all of their child s medical records. Because of this, it is important for adolescents and their parents to understand the nature of confidentiality in health care. Many people are unsure of the rights granted to minors because of the laws in place, or the lack of laws in place. In fact there are laws, such as the Privacy Act of 1988 that could be a reason people are confused about the rights minors have to confidentiality. This act is directly described in a professional practice article when Bird (2007), stated that an adolescent s health information can be released to a guardian, but in circumstances where a minor is capable of making their own medical decisions, they should be allowed to do so (p. 655). The limited trajectory of short narrative concentrates its meaning. Sign and sense can fuse to an extent impossible to achieve among the multiplying ambiguities of an extended narrative. Angela Carter Angela Carter is known in the literary community for her use of fairytales and overt sexual imagery in promoting feminist platforms. At the time she wrote The Bloody Chamber , the Second Wave of Feminism and, subsequently, the rise of radical libertarian feminism were crashing into the forefront of the global politics. This wave of feminism primarily focused on the empowerment of women through the exploration of female sexual identity, the promotion of androgynous females as the ideal model for the modern woman, and the liberation of women from the patriarchal societal traditions established to keep women in their submissive gender role (Formizano). After the British took control of Hong Kong, Hong Kong became more prosperous and adopted a capitalist system (Rothman, 2014). Due to the democratic freedom that the capitalist system gave, the citizens of Hong Kong became pro democracy (Rothman, 2014). Hence, before Hong Kong was back under China s control, the U.K. and China agreed upon one country, two systems (Rothman, 2014). One country, two systems means that under China, Hong Kong is allowed to use the capitalist system they have adopted. After the re assimilation of Hong Kong, tensions between China and Hong Kong rose due to political and cultural differences (Chan, 2014). Many citizens of Hong Kong believe that calling themselves Chinese is demeaning and instead refer to themselves as Hongkongers (Chan, 2014). I also share that belief which is why my national identity lies with Hong Kong and not China. Hong Kong s national identity is unique because Hong Kong was once under British control. Their culture is a mix of Western and Chinese. Hence, the role of gender and the appearance of a family in the self image of the nation vastly differs from China. Multinational banks have to abide to the laws of multiple countries and any action they do could cause controversy, whether it s considered good in the bank s eyes or if it s genuinely bad. While fiscal government policies that affect revenue collection and expenditure set the limits for multinational banks, ultimately multinational banks should be held to a higher international set of regulations. What triggered this growth? Likely the end of feudalism. The end of feudal contracts gave people a little more say in their day to day working activities, resulting in more time spent at home, which ultimately resulted in childbearing. This would leave citizens scrambling both to provide needs for the population as a whole, and to improve the individuals overall quality of life. Machines such as the scribbling mill, and spinning jenny did the work of a hundred hands, for every single human hand. Initially these machines were met by workers with despair, as one machine in twelve hours could do the work of ten men by hand . These machines also reduced labour by a third, which resulted in an increase in wage for workers and it also worked to increase trade since nations were about to compete with one another for cheaper resources . From an economic standpoint this shift in labour was beneficial to the masses because instead of people exerting themselves to compete with other nations, machinery could just take on the majority of the work, assisting in this movement. This benefitted business owners because they did not need as many labourers, and they could also afford to lower taxes. Smith declares the invisible hand as a necessity for society because capitalism drives people to seek cheaper sources, and in return if you provide that you will ultimately gain wealth. This is the issue of personal identity over time which continues to plague philosophers. What is it that allows me to say I am the same person today as I was yesterday or I will be tomorrow? Am I actually the same person? There has been no general consensus on the answer to this question. However many have proposed solutions to this question. When it comes to this hard problem of why persons last or persist over time there are two opposing points of view points. There is the perdurance or four dimensionalism view, which maintains that objects persist as a series of temporal parts that are simply related to each other. The other view is that of endurance which states that objects endure over time by being wholly present at each and every time they exist and must be numerically identical to each other in order to be the same thing, in such a way that they are one and the same. This paper seeks to explore what is the criterion or criteria of person identity by which we determine one person at one time and a person at another time to be one and the same. The Importance Of Reflection In Nursing As higher standards expected are from the public and higher patient safety demands are expected from health boards, therefore, there is a need for a way of measuring standards of practice which can be achieved through active thinking in a clinical environment brought about by critical reflection (Rolfe, Jasper Freshwater 2011). Reflection has become such a key component in the role of a nurse that the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) have seen it fit to include it in their professional code of conduct the Code: Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour for Nurses and Midwives, hereafter referred to as the Code (Nursing Midwifery Council [NMC], 2015). With reflection being a vital skill for nurses to continue their professional development (Parrish Crookes, 2013), an analysis of what it means to reflect within nursing is needed by all who intend to enter the profession to ensure its effective use is applied. This essay will look at what reflection in nursing looks like, why we use reflection as a tool, what are the outcomes of reflecting, how we reflect effectively and what skills are needed. Then, using an experience within practice, a reflective model will be used to analyse a critical incident relating to consent. In accordance with the confidentiality measure within The code (NMC, 2015) and to abide by the Data Protection Act 1998, no information will be provided which could allude to the identity of anyone within the critical incident, thus pseudonyms will be used where appropriate. According to Howston Jones (2013) reflection is not something that is out of the ordinary for everyone to do in their everyday lives. Reflection is the act of looking back on a situation, event or incident critically and making sense of it to learn from it and alter our actions to gain better outcomes should the same incident arise again (Capelhow, Crouch, Fisher Walsh, 2013). As new experiences happen to everyone, everyday; it would be right to consider reflection as an ongoing process within everyone s life, a process that is repeated, honed and a skill to be developed (McKenna, 1998). The Department of Defense takes up the majority of the US budget; it not only pulls in over a trillion dollars of taxpayer money yearly, but it also is unable to accurately account for the exact whereabouts of those funds year after year. The DoD does, of course, offer its own budget, however, due to the byzantine and ineffective nature of the Federal Bureaucracy, it is impossible to verify if the money is even so much as used for its intended purpose. Looking at this budget, two sections stand out as bloated, which is a statement in a budget that is packed with Pork barrel spending: Procurement, and Maintenance. Ultimately, should these two areas of the budget be reasonably downsized, and the others thoroughly audited, the DoD s operating expenses could be reduced drastically, much to the taxpayer s benefit. Procurement is, by far, the easiest section of the budget to pare down; a few simple reforms in regards to the process by which government contracts are granted, coupled with the elimination of several pork barrel programs, could save federal government millions of dollars. In regards to contracts, all deals should be strictly held to the original price and time frame; While that might seem like an obvious step, it is in fact a great leap forward for the DoD, where most programs go over budget.
