The North American Nursing Diagnosis Association Essay
The North American Nursing Diagnosis Association uses Gordon s Framework as a foundation for its
nursing diagnosis (Edelman Mandle 2014). Gordon s framework consists of functional health patterns
as defined by Endleman and Mandle (2014) is, viewing the individual as a whole being using
interrelated behavioral areas (p. 150). There are eleven patterns used as a tool to collect information
during assessments in order to create a plan for validation and communication among the nursing
profession. It focuses on five areas; pattern, individual environment, age development, functional and
lastly cultural. With the various detailed questions related to the health perception, is a method devised
by Marjory Gordon to be used by nurses in the nursing process to provide a more comprehensive
nursing assessment of the patient. Marjorie Gordon (1987) proposed functional health patterns as a
guide for establishing a comprehensive nursing data base. These 11 categories make possible a
systematic and standardized approach to data collection, and enable the nurse to determine the
following aspects of health and human function: At this time I have not been able to incorporate
Gordon s framework within my practice for I have been home since week 2 has begun. I am able to
incorporate this into my own and identify my own patterns when confronted with illness and assessing
my own. Two patterns that have emerge from completing the framework are Nutritional and Metabolic

Essay On Quitclaim Deed
The quitclaim deed holds the statement that the person named (and whose signature the property
bears) has quit ownership of the property listed and conveys it to the person who holds the quitclaim
deed (grantee). The quitclaim offers no guarantee. In fact, someone with no ownership whatsoever is
able to file a quitclaim on a property. This is usually done with the intent to commit fraud by selling
someone zero ownership to a piece of property. If the claim is wrong, there is no legal remedy. The
one holding the fraudulent quitclaim is simply left with no ownership for their money spent.
In some instances the quitclaim deed will pop up in connection to mortgages that have a cosigner.
When someone cosigns for a loan, they are agreeing that their financial position can be used along
with others on the loan, to qualify for financing. Co signers on a loan can each be held solely
responsible for the balance of the loan.
When a mortgage is held by one individual and cosigned by another, bankruptcy can leave confusion
in its wake. For instance, if the original debtor declares bankruptcy and receives a discharge for the
debt, they are no longer liable. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mortgage is based solely on ownership. Cosigners have a co ownership of the property. If one of
the co signers quitclaims the property, the remaining cosigners are left with the rights as well as the
liability associated with the property. The quitclaim will have no actual impact on the liability for the
loan. The cosigner who quitclaimed will still own that portion and hold the financial obligation
associated with it. If the quitclaim co signer files bankruptcy and ends up in bankruptcy court, the
quitclaim still offers little to no impact as the bankruptcy is focused on finances and liability which
have nothing to do with a quitclaim so it doesn t make much sense to file a quitclaim prior to filing for

Analysis Of Digital Nation
Technology can be used as a great tool for both education and communication. Specifically, the
younger generation is being targeted to use technology. They tend to use this technology for work,
school, communication, or entertainment. In the film Digital Nation, the producers stressed the
influence technology can have on the everyday life of a teenager. In order for one to gain an
understanding of the influence of technology, one could use Digital Nation has a reference to identify
how teenagers use technology in their everyday life and the distractions it may cause to a teenager s
focus. Today s teenagers think they are very good at multi tasking. The easy access to technology by
teenagers make them very inclined to use it. Students at the Massachusetts Institution of Technology
are the most connected people in the nation (Digital). These students believe that they are the best at
multi tasking. That means doing school work while playing a game or checking their social media.
This social group of students has learned to become literally two places at once. They are constantly
within a digital network whether that is through Facebook or another social outlet. Even through all
this technology, students are actually struggling with multi tasking. Students were tested to see how
well they could switch between tasks. The test showed that a student tested better if focusing on one
thing than one switching focus. Gathering this information reveals that a person

Sexuality In Tennessee Williams Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
In the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Williams explores a theme of sexuality. The story focuses on Brick
and his wife, Margaret. Margaret cares deeply for Brick and refuses to leave his side. Brick is ashamed
of his sexulity in the play. When he was younger he was great at sports and had a very close
relationship with his friend, Skipper. As I read the play I could see The crutch now bounds and helps
create a juxtaposition of his former self. When Brick was younger he was happy being with Skipper,
but now he attempts to escape. In the play the motif is the click in Brick s head. All he wants
throughout the play is to have the click occur. When the click occurs he can finally go to sleep in
peace. The click I get in my head when I ve had enough of this stuff to make me peaceful (Williams
26). A urge to escape can be seen in many of Williams play. Big Mama is a over caring and
overreaching character in the play. She attempts to have everything be perfect. Big Daddy is an angry
man who refuses to see that people care for him. These two character share a similar connection with
Williams father and mother. Big Daddy aggression towards his family is similar to how Williams
father became filled with aggression in his later years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Most Promising Performing Artist Of Her Generation Essay
Hailed as the most promising performing artist of her generation, choreographer and director Faye
Driscoll unabashedly creates a new and wholly visceral vocabulary to relay the human experience
through her work. Often incorporating an eclectic range of elements in her pieces, her ultimate product
usually tows the line between dance, theater, and performance art. A Brooklyn based artist, she
grounds her work in a personal obsession with the problem of being somebody in a world of other
somebodies. This seemingly abstract concept is actually broken down, built up and then blown out of
proportion through the work, thereby allowing participants to really contemplate our daily
performances of self. With evident interest in hyper theatrics and excess emotionality, Driscoll appears
to be one of the few contemporary artists who has taken on a uniquely experimental form to explore
the messier aspects of what it really means to be human in a postmodern society. Born in Los Angeles
California in 1976, Driscoll earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from New York University s
Tisch School for the Arts. A very private person, there is little to no record of her past or current life
online. In an interview with the San Francisco Bay Guardian, she explains that because she had a lot
going on in [her] home that was kind of crazy, dance became the fluid structure that afforded her the
space to finally express who she really was. A member of Doug Varone and dancers, she

Building A Cashless Society, Increased Efficiency,...
Executive Summary
Moving towards a cashless society, increased efficiency, improved service offering and better security
for the DCU Community form the premise of this report. Technology is changing at a rapid pace and
the challenge lies in identifying the optimum campus card solution, which will best suit the needs of
DCU. From a thorough examination of a host of campus card programmes, a comprehensive set of
recommendations has been reached. A contactless, proprietary, one card system is believed to be the
most advantageous solution for the DCU campus. Future interoperability, system reliability and ease
of use have been paramount in this decision making process. A staggered campus wide rollout is
proposed, to allow for close monitoring of each implementation phase. This will ensure a seamless
integration of the contactless technology without vast initial outlay. The service offering of this one
card solution will incorporate all aspects of campus life; payment, access control, security, printing,
photocopying, vending and car parking. The system has been designed to ensure future compatibility
with non campus vendors, ultimately facilitating growth of the card s functionality. The Department of
Transport are currently proposing a contactless payment system for public transport, particularly in the
Dublin region. Herein lies an ideal opportunity for the proposed DCU system to integrate with outside
vendors. As with any new initiative within an organisation, top

Hatshepsut Research Paper
Hatshepsut was an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh who used powerful pieces of art and architecture to
justify her reign. Most Ancient Egyptians did not agree with her rule because she was a woman so she
had to act fast in order to secure her position and to be seen as a valid ruler. At first, Hatshepsut as a co

astounded everyone by claiming the title of pharaoh for herself. She was only the third female ruler in
3,000 years. In order to persuade the Egyptian people of her legitimacy and her royal lineage, she used
propaganda to make her seem as genuine as possible. She made sure that all depictions of her

When thinking about ancient Egypt, we associate the word pharaoh with a male ruler. Hatshepsut
recognized this and used it to convey her legitimacy. All depictions of Hatshepsut show her as
resembling that of a male rather than that of a female. Her female characteristics were suppressed and
replaced with characteristics associated with males. She was depicted with broad shoulders and a false
beard because it was a symbol of a king and hence a symbol of power. The hieroglyphs on the statue
identify her as female, so she was not trying to make people believe she was a male. By representing
her bodily figure more similar to males, people would think of her as more powerful and respectful.
We know the only reason that pharaohs would kneel is if they would be in the presence of a god.

Grains And Saturated Fat Analysis
When it comes to the areas I am doing well in, I was surprised. Grains and Saturated Fat is what I m
doing well in. That came as a surprise to me because I thought all the fats that entered my body were
bad so I guess I control my saturated fats well. Grains were surprising as well because I don t really
eat all that many grains. The occasional bowl of cereal or toast but that is all.
I actually wasn t one bit surprised with the areas that I need to improve in as it was stuff I knew I need
to improve in the first place. One area was vegtables. It s not that I have a problem with vegetables,
because I don t, but I just don t eat them that often. Another area was fruits. I love fruit a lot. I have no
problem eating fruit on a regular basis but the chart said I don t eat enough of them which I found
pretty weird. The next area is dairy. I understood why I was lacking as lactose kills my stomach so I
try not to drink or eat any dairy products. At times that sucks especially right now when Dairy Queen
has the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard and it s so good but it kills my stomach in the end. The next area is oils.
I don t really like oils all that much so I don t like eating them. The last area is protein. I wasn t
surprised about the results as I don t eat things like beef or seafood all that often. I do eat chicken,
turkey, and ham but that is as far as I ll go in protein. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Religious Hypocrisy In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Research shows that several Flannery O Connor critics claim that her work A Good Man is Hard to
Find does not parallel her devout Catholic faith, but rather replicate the ideologies of atheism and even
go as far as to showcase religious hypocrisy. As Edwin Curley once quoted O Connor is often labelled
as a Catholic writer, but there is nothing peculiarly Catholic, or even Christian about her dark view of
human nature (Curley 31). This particular statement helps reaffirm the belief that O Connor
demonstrates an atheist viewpoint and simultaneously contradicts her religious piety. However, O
Connor subconsciously believes and demonstrates through her work that the Grandmother and the
Misfit s final fate is to be redeemed by an epiphany of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Edwin Curley displays the argument that O Connor s work is not a religious story.
Rather than dissecting the various elements that O Connor utilizes to intertwine human nature with
religion, Curley examines her writing and automatically claims that her work had nothing particularly
Catholic, or even Christian on O Connor s work. Instead of studying how she might have related her
pessimistic view of mankind to her religion, Curley relates her work to Machiavelli s The Prince and
Thomas Hobbes Social Contract, two works symbolize human wickedness and lack of morality.
Additionally, Stanley Renner s Secular Meaning in A Good Man Is Hard to Find display similar
attitudes regarding the story and religious motives. Instead of showcasing O Connor s the religious
motives mentioned above, Renner looks directly at the secular interpretations of the story. For
example, Renner argues that the Grandmother s love for Jesus only stirred the murderer s homicidal
rage (Renner 124), implying that the Misfit merely possessed atheist viewpoints instead of diving into
the greater meaning of the story by how religion played a role in A Good Man Is Hard to Find.
Furthermore, Douglas Leonard expresses that O Connor realizes the flimsiness of her old form of
Christianity: her religion has consisted of nothing more than platitudes which she manipulated to suit
her own purposes and with which she

Official Crime Statistics And Their Strengths And Weaknesses
Official crime statistics are measured mainly in one ways which is police recorded crime and it has its
own strengths and weaknesses. Unofficial measurements, just like official crime statistics, also have
their own strengths and weaknesses. Unofficial measurements can be seen through two major data
sources which are social science and private agency records. The social sciences can be seen through
victimization surveys and through self report studies. The legal definition of crime is: A violation of a
law in which there is injury to the public or a member of the public and a term in jail or prison, and/or
a fine as possible penalties. (TheFreeDictionary.com, 2015). Crime statistics are used by the police (to
monitor their efficiency), Politicians (to formulate policies), Criminologists (to understand crime that
is taking place) and the General public (who will mainly go to the media to find out their information,
but they still have access to the crime reports). This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of
both official crime statistics and unofficial crime statistics.
The main ways in gathering official crime statistics is through police recorded crimes. These are then
requested by the British home office. The police recorded crimes are easy to conduct as it is the police
making a record of the crimes that have been recorded to them. Police recorded crimes make I easier

With These Words I Can Sell You Anything Essay
With These Words I Can Sell You Anything is an article written by William Lutz, explaining the
tactics of marketers to sell their products. It is an excerpt from his book Doublespeak, published in
1990. William Lutz has been called the George Orwell of the 1990s , and indeed many of his books
are titled in direct reference to Orwell s works. Lutz claims in his article that there s a big conspiracy
where the people trying to sell us things are giving us ineffective products disguised as something
much better. Unfortunately, he comes off as paranoid; someone making a big fuss over that which in
reality isn t a big deal and as someone late to the party, only discovering something long after

Again, using common sense it s almost insulting to think that anyone would be fooled by these words.
When someone sees an ad for something and its bottom line for making you buy a product is that it
works Like Magic! how could they help but laugh? It s disturbing to think that anyone would be
fooled into buying these products multiple times if they re so ineffective. When a person see a product
they need like laundry detergent that claims it can completely erase stains, why wouldn t they go test
it? It can clean their clothes like any other detergent, and if it removes stains they might have a great
product on your hands. If it doesn t, they simply look for a different product. Lutz acts like once
something is bought the consumer gets stuck with that for life, with no alternatives. The beauty of a
free market is that there are countless products for the same thing, and they all work differently.
Nobody will be fooled into buying something that doesn t work more than once. While Lutz does
correctly examine that advertisers use different methods to persuade consumers to buy products, he
falls flat on his face when he takes up 11 pages explaining things that should be obvious to any high
school graduate. If you pick apart someone s words enough you can make anyone seem like the devil,
and unfortunately that s what has

Liberalization Of The Economy And The Need For More

POL 4473
December 4, 2014
China: liberalization of the economy and the need for more.
China has increasingly liberalized their centrally governed economy into a market controlled economy
and continuing this trend is likely to prove to be beneficial. Exploring the past, we will see where the
influence for liberalization came from. How liberalization has allowed China to be where it is today as
an economic super power and how it will influence the future of China s development and association
with the world economy.
THE PAST THAT INFLUENCED TODAY
China had to experience some tough times before even considering addressing economic policy
changes that would change the way that china did business with the world. Before the time of Mao
Zedong and the Peoples Republic of China, the land of China was controlled by landlords that
thuggishly ruled over their areas in order to maintain wealth and food for themselves while supporting
the larger government. After the revolution and the implementation of the People Republic of China,
the land was taken from these landlords and redistributed back to the peasants that worked the land.
They were allowed to farm this land to produce crops for the government as well as make enough for
self sustainment. Later these peasants were grouped into cooperatives in order to meet the needs of the
growing country. Eventually, in 1958, the land was completely taken from the peasants and they were
placed into communes. This

after. As a result, many films have been introduced to allow audiences to further question the matter.
The movies 1984 and Pleasantville are two exceptional examples. However, only one accurately
portrays the fact that one s life is not predetermined, but instead is led by individual choices.
Pleasantville, directed by Gary Ross, takes a more direct approach on the topic of fate and free will,
persuading viewers to wholeheartedly agree.
The film Pleasantville begins in the 90 s with siblings, David and Jennifer. Both live very different
lives under the same roof and in the same school. David is a shy and quiet outcast whereas Jennifer is

Instead, it takes an abstract approach to the controversial subject. Although the film revolves around
fate and free will, it does not result in a distinctive position in either direction. The audience is left to
question the notion of fate, whereas the result in Pleasantville is indisputable.
The film 1984, based off of George Orwell s novel, revolves around a man named Winston living in a
dystopian society called IngSoc (English Socialism). He spends his time changing history in
accordance with what the totalitarian government demands. However, Winston is guilty of what is
called thoughtcrime : the disagreement with or lack of belief in the oligarchy and war. He also keeps a
secret journal of his thoughts, an extremely dangerous decision.
Winston travels to proletarian areas to involve himself in activities such as soliciting a prostitute,
buying razors and eventually purchasing a secret room. He then begins to interact with another
member of his society, a woman named Julia. They partake in other criminal activities such as sex,
and eating real foods like sugar and coffee. They decide to live an alternate life in the room he is

Video Games and Sociological Theory Essay
Video Games and Sociological Theory
July 22, 2012
Video games have become as pervasive an aspect of our society as television, with many people
spending more time playing video games than watching television. There are many perspectives with
which to gauge videos games effect on society, from a functionalist, conflict or interactionist
perspective. (Schaefer, 2011) Each of these sociological theories can provide a different view of video
games, how they affect society and the subcultures that develop around them.
The functionalist perspective would emphasize the way in which the parts of a society are structured
to maintain its stability. (Schaefer, 2011) A functionalist may point out the manifest functions of video
games as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A more in depth study may look at video games from a Marxist point of view, characterizing the
games as a modern day opiate of the masses with multi billion dollar corporations publishing the
games to keep the proletariat occupied and oblivious to their plights. A feminist may cite the standard
role of female video game characters as being the damsel in distress and even strong female characters
usually being relegated to sex symbol status.
An interactionist would study the effect of videos games on individuals, rather than on society as a
whole. (Schaefer, 2011) Some things they may study would be any influence the games have on a
behavior of a person. Another interactionist aspect would be the effect on families, where, like many
things, video games can bring a family together or alienate members. Online multiplayer games now
can also allow people to interact with other players from all over the world, being exposed to people
and aspects of culture they may never have encountered otherwise. The interactionist may also look at
gaming clans, and how the interaction of members affects daily life outside of video games.
The sociological interpretations of video games are almost as numerous as the games themselves, and
like many aspects of our society can be harmful or beneficial depending on how they are utilized by

What Was Alexander s Actions
In 326 B.C.E. Alexander was in a battle at the Hydaspes River in India with King Porus. This is
considered by many to be his last major victory. There he would face a new opponent elephants. The
river was also a mile wide. Alexander would be facing an army again that outnumbered him. King
Porus thought the river was his best defense, but he underestimated Alexander s ability to fight. Porus
thought that Alexander would wait until monsoon season was over because the river was deep and
fast. Alexander ordered from his Indian ally, King Taxila, large grain shipments, giving the indication
that he would wait for monsoon season to end. But he had no intention of waiting. Then Alexander
started a distraction by putting campfires along the shore.

Comparing Death of a Salesman and The American Dream Essay
Comparing Death of a Salesman and The American Dream
In Arthur Miller s Death of A Salesman and Edward Albee s The American Dream, Willy Lowman and
Mommy possess the trait of superficiality. Their priorities are to look good and be liked, and this
contributes to their misguided paths to reach success. This attribute is one of many societal criticisms
pointed out by both authors. Arthur Miller criticizes society for perceiving success as being liked and
having good looks. He illustrates society s perception through Willy, who thinks the keys to success

Willy is now misleading his sons into thinking good looks will keep them alive in the corporate world
and education won t, yet Willy is a man with respectable looks and he isn t surviving in the same

It s not what you say, it s how you say it because personality always wins the day. (pg. 65)
Willy s final words of advise to Biff are no different than his first and no more educational. Biff, like

4.0 ISLAMIC CREDIT CARD
Life without a cerdit card is hardly possible in modern economies, but cerdit card purchases may
involve interest payments. Generally there is no problem from a Muslim point of view if card holders
pay the credit card company within the grace period, so as to avoid paying interest, though not all
fuqaha concur. Various Shariah councils have made liberal rulings that enabled financial institutions to
develop Islamic credit cards that provide credit for longer periods than the usual one month grace
period. With these cards, purchases are automatically financed over a afixed period, usually 12
months. Early payment results in a price reduction (El Gamal 2000, p.5).

Footwear also known as shoes was invented to protect a person s foot while doing various activities,

The demand for different designs and styles, eventually changed the cost and the history of these
ordinary sneakers. Air Jordan s , notably the most famous sneaker ever made, is designed and owned
by Michael Jordan. Footwear sales sky rocketed in 1984, when Michael Jordan signed a contract to
wear the now famous Air Jordan. Air Jordan is manufactured in China and allegedly costs Nike a little
over $16 to make a pair. Yet, Air Jordan s are priced at anywhere between $100 to $600 a pair,
depending on the style and color.
The pricing strategy for this brand is value based. The selling price is determined not by the cost of the
goods, but by the status that buyers think they are valued. Consumers measure the quality of Air

pay a pretty penny to be like Mike, hence their well known motto I want to be, I want to be like Mike.

Freyr Research Paper
The sun has been depicted as a god or an object pulled by a god throughout many mythologies. Most
people may think of Helios, Apollo, or Ra when the term sun god comes up, but in Norse mythology,
there is yet another god of the sun. Frey, who is also known as Freyr, is a god who is considered to be
a god of the sun, among many other things. It can be said that Frey is to the Norsemen what Apollo
was to the Greeks. He was one of the many deities that made up Norse mythology, and also one of the
most interesting.
Frey was the Norse god of the sun, rain, agriculture, fertility, and health, and an important god in the
Norse culture. He was part of the group of gods called the Vanir, a peace loving tribe, and he s also an

fertility and agriculture, farmers worshipped him and traveled with an image of Frey in their wagons.
They believed this practice made their crops thrive. Many ancient Scandinavian families claimed to be
descended from Frey because they thought his presence guaranteed a plentiful harvest and peace
(Lindahl). As with most gods in other mythologies, there was a complex family system. Frey had a

Persuasive Speech On Child Soldiers
Is it known to the billions in this world, of the many who are unfairly tortured? Thousands and
thousands of people are tormented, and living a difficult life. Of these thousands, are child soldiers.
Child soldiers experience awful wars with bloodshed, which no child should ever experience. The
Middle East, where most children are recruited, is filled with cities of rubble. Children living in this
environment can t go to school, starve and may even be abandoned or separated from their parents.
Being in war, child soldiers commit crimes each and every time they land a foot on the battlefield. Is
this their choice? Is it considered fun for them to play with weapons? Should they be forgiven for their
actions? Child soldiers should be given amnesty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Viewers who support not forgiving child soldiers say child soldiers need to learn that what they did
was wrong and by sending them to tough camps like Guantanamo Bay, they will have time to
understand their mistakes. However, keeping these children in an as equal harsh environment will only
trigger there actions to go and further violate laws. Like said previously, Omar Khadr, a child soldier
now living in Guantanamo Bay, went on to murder U.S Army Sgt. First Class Christopher Speer.
Despite that fact that others believe there are many children who choose to become a soldier, there is
always are driving factor which possibly may seem like a children s choice. In other words, this claim
is untrue. Children not only become child soldiers because they are abandoned by their parents, or are
forced, sometimes the parents have little money and send their kids off. The parents can t keep up with
bills or feeding the family, so their only hope to make money is deporting their children for the
maximum pay of $1.50. This situation of send off may look like the child chose to be in the military,
but this is inaccurate. Lastly, critics argue child soldiers are better fighters than adult soldiers.

William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
Gustav Berner Mrs. Hillard Honors English 10 F 15 January 2015 Julius Caesar Discussion 1.) Brutus
trust in others and his love of Rome are his greatest faults. His tragic flaw is the trust he places in
others. Brutus is easily swayed to trust Cassius when he plots to kill Caesar. Cassius uses his cunning
to trick Brutus into believing Caesar is ambitious and that he is killing Caesar for the good of Rome.
Cassius says to Brutus, Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world like a Colossus, and we petty
men walk under his huge legs...the fault, dear Brutus is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are
underlings (Shakespeare Act I. ii. 142 148). Cassius is speaking of how Caesar is becoming almost
like a tyrant or emperor in the aspect that he is becoming more powerful than everyone else. Brutus
love Rome dearly and does not want it destroyed or ruled by a tyrant or emperor. Therefore, Brutus is
manipulated by Cassius into murdering Caesar. Later on after Caesar is murdered, Antony makes a
speech that is full of irony. His speech tells of how Brutus says Caesar was an ambitious man, and that
Brutus is an honorable man. Antony says, Brutus says he was ambitious, and Brutus is an honorable
man... When the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept; ambition should be made of sterner stuff. Yet
Brutus says he was ambitious, and Brutus is an honorable man (Shakespeare Act III. ii. 95 103).

The Caliph Harun Al Rashid
Aside from this general emphasis on the value of cleverness and intelligence however, the story of the
Caliph Harun al Rashid and his much exalted qadi Abu Yusuf also highlights an interesting point about
religion and the works to follow or otherwise remain within the confines of certain religious mandates
while simultaneously being able to pursue whatever personal ends one desires. Though the qadi claims
that the actions of the Caliph all fall within accordance with the Qur an and the teachings of Islam, the
series of events required to allow the Caliph to consummate a marriage with the slave girl which
involve such workarounds as the ordering of her marriage to a male slave in order to divorce them and
avoid the three month period of legal purification (Schroeder, 1955) required for sexual conduct, as
well as ordering the male slave to become the property of the girl in order to annul their marriage
when the male slave refuses to divorce her on his own it certainly seems that these actions probably
violate the spirit of the law, even if they avoid violation of the letter. The story itself makes a
somewhat humorous and sly mention of this fact towards the end of the tale, confirming that as to the
expiation of the oaths, Abu Yusuf s ruling would hardly be confirmed by jurists of the Shafi i school,
(Schroeder, 1955) but noting that Abu Yusuf treated it in accord with the views of his own, the Hanafi
school. In other words, whether or not the actions of the qadi

My Antonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, And Roselily By Willa Cather
The most poignant struggle within female literature is, almost always, the relationship that women
have with power. It presents itself in many forms through a relationship, within the workplace, or even
self imposed, women are always juxtaposed against the structure of power for one reason or another.
However, despite the uplifting narrative development that generally occurs within these stories, the
concern about power struggle is never truly resolved the problem remains. Through My Ántonia, Wide
Sargasso Sea, and Roselily , the reader can see that the influence of power and its negative and toxic
consequences proves fatal within class, race, and gender boundaries.
Willa Cather s My Ántonia displays the gender focused concern about power within the female
character s life. The narrator, Jim Burden, is immediately introduced to the reader as a man who sees
the world through rose colored glasses. That is, he s got a romantic disposition on life and sees things
the way he wants to see them, rather than the way they actually are. The most complicated area that
concerns Jim, though, is his relationship with Ántonia. Throughout the novel, there s a clear longing
for her that Jim seems to exude he never really attempts to kindle a romantic relationship with her, but
she s a highly romanticized figure in his eyes and someone who he holds very dear. So it s clear, then,
that because of this closeness that Jim feels towards Ántonia, he holds her to standards that have

Essay on Brothers of the Bible
Brothers of the Bible
The Old Testament sibling rivalries between Cain and Abel, Esau and Jacob, and Joseph and his
brothers were similar in some ways and different in others, but they all hold lessons for us today, for
brothers today still face many of the same problems in life that challenged brothers thousands of years
ago.
Cain and Abel were in a situation much more unique than Esau and Jacob, and Joseph and his brothers
faced, for the society they lived in was extremely small, and they each had a direct relationship with
God. As the book of Genesis tells us, Cain was the first born son of Adam and Eve. Their next son was
a boy whom they named Abel. As Cain and Abel grew up both took responsibilities for making a
living. Abel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cain takes the road of denial rather than hiding from God; even more, he turns the question back to
God implying impropriety in God?s question. ?Keeping? is not something human beings do to one
another in the Old testament; only God keeps human beings; hence God should know the answer to
the question. (Abingdon, 373)
Another unique element of the Cain and Abel rivalry and its tragic aftermath is that God personally
punished Cain for the murder of Abel, and sent him into exile. But God also showed some mercy to
Cain which protected him from harm at the hands of others by putting a mark upon him. The narrator
leaves him as one who has been placed under the very special care of God. Hence, the story ought not
to be interpreted in basically negative terms, but rather as the activity of one who lives under divine
protection and care. (Abingdon, 375)
The sibling rivalry between Jacob and Esau didn?t result from envy due to God?s reaction to their
sacrifices, but from envy over parental favoritism. In addition to this, the rivalry also involved a
number of other factors and began even before they were born. As God explained to Rebekah when
the twins were still in her womb, ?the two children inside you will become the fathers of two nations.
Just like the two are fighting with each other now, the two nations will struggle with each other. One
will be stronger than the other. and the older will serve the younger.? (Genesis 33) God explains to her

The Oppression of Women
The Oppression of Women Imperialism is used to gain authority and control over one state or people
in the form of an empire, based on practices of dominance and the idea of superiority. The term can be
found in the history of Japan, the Chinese Empire, Greece, ancient Egypt and the British Empire.
From 1934 to 1945, Hitler ran Germany by promoting anti Semitism, Pan Germanism, and anti
communism to gain the support of the German people. In this time he was the leader of a mass
genocide which killed approximately six million Jews during World War II. During the 19th and 20th
century, slavery was prominent in the United States where black women and men were powered by
their masters. Stolen from their original homes, they were forced to work for little or no pay. In Islam,
women are sold into arranged marriages at a very young age. They lose their property to the men they
are married to and are controlled by their husbands. In any civilization, it is easy to see how
imperialism has affected many different religious groups, people of different ethnicities, and genders.
Women have been targeted and discriminated throughout our world s history. Many women have
fought and gone against their society s rules to prove that justice should be given to them. Women
have been discriminated by their sex, jobs, pregnancy, race, and religion. In pre agricultural societies,
women held equal positions as men. After adapting to sedentary cultures, men began to believe the

2. Analyze the arguments for government intervention as opposed to arguments for market based
solutions. Hint: See the information in our course textbook on market failures.
Without government intervention, the US economy would have continued to be devastated based on
the millions of Americans who lost their jobs, savings disappearances, and the senior citizens having
no source of income when they reached retirement age, (Koba, 2013). The market could not correct
itself from as the Gross National Product was almost cut in half from 1929 to 1932, where recovery
efforts without government intervention would be next to impossible.
3. Examine who may be helped and who may be hurt by the selected government intervention.
Social Security has helped the elderly receive income during their retirement years, and has helped
those who have disabilities from accidents and other disabilities to supplement their income sources.
Social Security takes a portion of income from workers paychecks each month, and pay those
individuals a retirement income based on when they elect to retire and receive this income. This
income makes up of more than half the retirement income of more than 75 percent of retired
Americans, and continues to help households with their daily living expenses by injecting funds back
into the economy (Osterland, 2014). Oddly enough,

Marjane Satrapi s Perspective Of Persepolis
Perspective of Persepolis Marjane Satrapi s perspective in Persepolis is unique because of her gender,

Revolution begins in Iran. She experiences many traumatic events in her childhood but is shielded by
a lot by her parents. Because of these things, her perspective is slightly altered and not entirely
accurate.
Being a female in Iran before the Islamic Revolution was not that different than being a female in
America, but after the Islamic Revolution, women were expected to wear hijabs, obey their husbands,
and conform to traditional gender stereotypes. These traditional gender stereotypes are shown in the
photo to the left. Marjane, being the stubborn girl she is, sees this double standard and does everything
she can to rebel against it, which gets her into some trouble. For example, she once had a run in with
the Guardians of the Revolution , who yelled at her for having symbols of decadence , like sneakers
and Michael Jackson pins, and for showing her hair below her headscarf (Satrapi 133). If she was not
a girl, this would not have happened to her. This shows that her perspective on the Revolution was

The Spiritual Warfare Movement
The Spiritual warfare Movement is a movement that intensely focuses on the movements of the Holy
Spirit in evangelistic and spiritual warfare. Pentecostal in nature, their focus is not on the physical war
which is seen, but the spiritual war, which is unseen. It is written, For our struggle is not against flesh
and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and
against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (NIV, Ephesians 6:12). Dan Jorgenson
writes, Third wave approaches draw on a series of theological and practical innovations prominently
associated with evangelists such as C. Peer Wagner, John Wimber, Benny Hinn, George Otis, and John

that succeeded earlier Pentecostal forms (Wagner 1988:15). A great deal of this movement began in
the 1980 s and has proliferated since this time. Before it were two other Pentecostal and Charismatic

Once Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said,
O Allah! Make me among those who, when they commit an act of virtue , feel good, and when they
commit a mistake , they seek forgiveness .
Forgiveness from God :
The word Allah is Most Merciful are repeated many times throughout the Quran. In Islam, the

Public Policy And Public Health
Literature Review
The first section describes the term public policy, taking into account a number of policy definitions
from both public administration and public health, and as well as several policy influencing factors.
The second section addresses physical activity policy in particular, providing a definition of physical
activity policy as well as suggested criteria that characterize successful physical activity policy. The
third section gives an insight into policy evaluation...
What is public policy? The National Collaborating Centre for Healthy Public Policy (NCCHPP)
defines public policy as a strategic action led by a public authority in order to limit or increase the
presence of certain phenomena within the population (2012, p. 1). They propose an evidence informed
analytical framework that reflects both public health perspectives and concerns of policy makers. This
is important because public health actors (i.e., policy evaluators and advocates) do not have the power
to make decisions as they represent one voice of among many in the policy making process. The
analytic framework is structured to guide public health matters in a decision making context with six
dimensions: first, the dimensions of effectiveness, unintended effects, and equity are related to the
question of effectiveness; and subsequently, cost, acceptability, and feasibility are related to policy
implementation. Policy is often not a single decision, but a web of decisions or sometimes rather a

Health Economic Research Paper
What is a Health Economist?
Health economists are professionals who combine their knowledge of economics and the health care
industry to analyze how health care resource are used and distributed. They focus on ways to better
understand the health care system, improve health care policies and the quality of patient care.
Health Economics
Health economics is a new subfield of economics that analyzes various health care related topics. For
example, some health economists evaluate the long term effects of lifestyle choices on health. Others
examine the estimated costs and benefits of new or proposed health care policies. One health
economist may propose more efficient ways to provide certain health care services, while another may
seek to increase the cost effectiveness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They will also learn about research ethics, economic evaluations and the principles of epidemiology.
During the last two terms, students will most likely study advanced public health statistics and
economics as well as econometrics and microeconomic evaluations.
Core Skills
After graduation, health economists will understand the critical roles that economic reasoning and cost
analyses play in forming public health care policies. Graduates will understand the interrelationships
between economics and biostatistics, epidemiology, public health and disease modeling. Based on this
knowledge, health economists produce data driven research regarding health services, systems and
interventions.
Health economists must have advanced math and computer skills because they frequently create
analytical and statistical models with complex software programs. They will use economic theories to
predict public and organizational responses to policy changes and incentives. Finally, they provide
detailed input for econometric analyses of policy changes and interpret the statistical

Physics Behind Airplanes
The entire concept behind airplanes is to construct them in such a way that the airflow pattern around
generates lift allowing them to fly. This airflow is produced by the forward motion of the plane
through the air. The forward motion of the plane is produced by its engine, which could be a propeller
engine or turbine. These engines create thrust by accelerating the air in front of them backwards. The
acceleration of the air backward pushes the plane forward due to Newton s third law as every force
has an equal and opposite force. The lift force that allows a plane to remain in the air is created by the
airflow passing over the wings. This airflow only occurs if the planes is moving through the air
meaning that lift is only possible if a plane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that the planes experiences zero acceleration and the forces acting on the plane must
balance each other out. In order for the vertical components of the plane to cancel out, the lift created
by the wings must equal the weight of the plane caused by gravity. For the horizontal components of
the plane to cancel out, the thrust created by the engines must equal the drag due to air resistance.
Although it is important to note, lift is generally angled slightly backwards. This means that some of
the drag is caused by the lift force, and the lift force actually needs to be greater than the weight of the
plane. When a plane is taking off or landing, it experience similar forces as it does when it is at level
flight. Lift remains perpendicular to the velocity of the plane. The drag is in the opposite direction of
the velocity. Thrust opposes the drag, so it is in the same direction as the velocity. The weight of the
airplane is straight down as it is caused by gravity. Again, if the plane is travelling at a constant
velocity, then the forces acting on it must cancel one another. For the following equations, L represents
lift, T represents thrust, D represents drag, and W represents weight. In order for the vertical
components to equal zero, Lcosθ + Tsinθ Dsinθ W = 0. For the horizontal components to equal zero,
Tcosθ Dcosθ Lsinθ = 0. If the plane

Minority Representation Of Minority Minorities
The insufficiency in the representation of minorities in higher education administration and tenured
faculty remained consistently problematic in spite of the existing and growing awareness within the
higher education community (Nye Maxey, 1994). According to McKenney and Cejda (2000), minority
representation in the American higher education system has generally been a major issue for the
academic community as a whole.
Racial and ethnic diversity has become increasingly more challenging throughout colleges and
universities across the United States. Little progress has been made, for instance, for minority faculty
members to move up through the leadership ranks. There are large disparities for minority faculty
members when data and demographic trends in faculty and institutional leadership are examined.
Higher education institutions, argued Gibson Benninger (1995), must increase their efforts in the
appointment of women and minorities because these two groups have been severely underrepresented
in leadership positions. Higher education institutions have not achieved much success with regard to
minority recruitment to leadership positions by failing to aggressively recruit minority applicants
(Gibson Benninger, 1995).
Since its inception in 1987, the diversity program that was aiming to link academic excellence and
social diversity at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor campus has shown some improvement in the
number of their minority faculty members of tenured and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Auto Funds
Auto fund has turned out to be huge business. An enormous number of new and utilized auto
purchasers as a part of the UK are making their vehicle buy on fund or something to that affect. It may
be as a bank advance, account from the dealership, renting, charge card, the trusty Bank of Mum and
Dad , or bunch different types of fund, yet generally few individuals really purchase an auto with their
own particular money any longer.
An era prior, a private auto purchaser with, say, £8,000 money to spend would as a rule have
purchased an auto up to the estimation of £8,000. Today, that same £8,000 will probably be utilized as

merchant will attempt and push you towards a PCP over a HP since it will probably be better for them.
Like the HP above, you pay a store and have regularly scheduled installments over a term. In any case,
the regularly scheduled installments are lower and/or the term is shorter (generally a maximum. of 48
months), since you are not paying off the entire auto. Toward the end of the term, there is still a huge
lump of the fund unpaid. This is normally called a GMFV (Guaranteed Minimum Future Value). The
auto fund organization ensures that, inside certain conditions, the auto will be worth at any rate as

Women In A Tale Of Two Cities
A Tale of Two Cities Essay
Women in the 18th century were slowly beginning to gain more rights, but not enough to be equal to
men. They were sometimes disrespected, and many people still thought that women were not able to
have a job; they were just meant to run the household. Many advances were made in this time period,
such as having the availability of more education, and being able to assist their husband in work
outside of home. But there were still many things women did not have say in, such as marriage laws.
In Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, women play a major role in the story, and show just
how capable a woman can be, even without the respect that they rightfully deserve.
Miss Pross portrays that a woman can be just as brave as a man, and make sacrifices for those who she
cares about. At the end of the book, Miss Pross faces Madame Defarge alone, and is willing to
sacrifice herself for Lucie. Her love and loyalty to Lucie shows when she is with Defarge. She knows
that the longer I keep you here, the greater hope there is for my Ladybird (Page 377). Miss Pross tries
to stall for time, knowing that she may be killed by Madame Defarge, but she is willing to give her life
up for Lucie to be able to live a long and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This woman was ruthless, added a mystery to the book that was left unsolved until the very end. She
may be an antagonist, but she also played the part of a victim as well. The Evrémonde brothers had
killed much of her family, and soon after, she became blinded with revenge. Defarge held a deep
hatred for the Evrémondes, and would try to kill everyone who was associated with them. Once this
feud was becoming too much, Ernest Defarge had tried to put a stop to her need of revenge, but she
told him to tell the wind and fire to stop, not me (page 338). Madame Defarge would not stop until
each and every one of the Evrémondes was dead, or she was gone

  • 2. The North American Nursing Diagnosis Association Essay The North American Nursing Diagnosis Association uses Gordon s Framework as a foundation for its nursing diagnosis (Edelman Mandle 2014). Gordon s framework consists of functional health patterns as defined by Endleman and Mandle (2014) is, viewing the individual as a whole being using interrelated behavioral areas (p. 150). There are eleven patterns used as a tool to collect information during assessments in order to create a plan for validation and communication among the nursing profession. It focuses on five areas; pattern, individual environment, age development, functional and lastly cultural. With the various detailed questions related to the health perception, is a method devised by Marjory Gordon to be used by nurses in the nursing process to provide a more comprehensive nursing assessment of the patient. Marjorie Gordon (1987) proposed functional health patterns as a guide for establishing a comprehensive nursing data base. These 11 categories make possible a systematic and standardized approach to data collection, and enable the nurse to determine the following aspects of health and human function: At this time I have not been able to incorporate Gordon s framework within my practice for I have been home since week 2 has begun. Essay On Quitclaim Deed The quitclaim deed holds the statement that the person named (and whose signature the property bears) has quit ownership of the property listed and conveys it to the person who holds the quitclaim deed (grantee). The quitclaim offers no guarantee. In fact, someone with no ownership whatsoever is able to file a quitclaim on a property. This is usually done with the intent to commit fraud by selling someone zero ownership to a piece of property. If the claim is wrong, there is no legal remedy. The one holding the fraudulent quitclaim is simply left with no ownership for their money spent. In some instances the quitclaim deed will pop up in connection to mortgages that have a cosigner. When someone cosigns for a loan, they are agreeing that their financial position can be used along with others on the loan, to qualify for financing. Co signers on a loan can each be held solely responsible for the balance of the loan. When a mortgage is held by one individual and cosigned by another, bankruptcy can leave confusion in its wake. Today s teenagers think they are very good at multi tasking. The easy access to technology by teenagers make them very inclined to use it. Students at the Massachusetts Institution of Technology are the most connected people in the nation (Digital). These students believe that they are the best at multi tasking. • 8. The Most Promising Performing Artist Of Her Generation Essay Hailed as the most promising performing artist of her generation, choreographer and director Faye Driscoll unabashedly creates a new and wholly visceral vocabulary to relay the human experience through her work. Often incorporating an eclectic range of elements in her pieces, her ultimate product usually tows the line between dance, theater, and performance art. A Brooklyn based artist, she grounds her work in a personal obsession with the problem of being somebody in a world of other somebodies. This seemingly abstract concept is actually broken down, built up and then blown out of proportion through the work, thereby allowing participants to really contemplate our daily performances of self. With evident interest in hyper theatrics and excess emotionality, Driscoll appears to be one of the few contemporary artists who has taken on a uniquely experimental form to explore the messier aspects of what it really means to be human in a postmodern society. Born in Los Angeles California in 1976, Driscoll earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from New York University s Tisch School for the Arts. A very private person, there is little to no record of her past or current life online. In an interview with the San Francisco Bay Guardian, she explains that because she had a lot going on in [her] home that was kind of crazy, dance became the fluid structure that afforded her the space to finally express who she really was. Executive Summary Moving towards a cashless society, increased efficiency, improved service offering and better security for the DCU Community form the premise of this report. Technology is changing at a rapid pace and the challenge lies in identifying the optimum campus card solution, which will best suit the needs of DCU. From a thorough examination of a host of campus card programmes, a comprehensive set of recommendations has been reached. A contactless, proprietary, one card system is believed to be the most advantageous solution for the DCU campus. Future interoperability, system reliability and ease of use have been paramount in this decision making process. A staggered campus wide rollout is proposed, to allow for close monitoring of each implementation phase. This will ensure a seamless integration of the contactless technology without vast initial outlay. The service offering of this one card solution will incorporate all aspects of campus life; payment, access control, security, printing, photocopying, vending and car parking. The system has been designed to ensure future compatibility with non campus vendors, ultimately facilitating growth of the card s functionality. The Department of Transport are currently proposing a contactless payment system for public transport, particularly in the Dublin region. When thinking about ancient Egypt, we associate the word pharaoh with a male ruler. Hatshepsut recognized this and used it to convey her legitimacy. All depictions of Hatshepsut show her as resembling that of a male rather than that of a female. Her female characteristics were suppressed and replaced with characteristics associated with males. She was depicted with broad shoulders and a false beard because it was a symbol of a king and hence a symbol of power. The hieroglyphs on the statue identify her as female, so she was not trying to make people believe she was a male. By representing her bodily figure more similar to males, people would think of her as more powerful and respectful. Instead of studying how she might have related her pessimistic view of mankind to her religion, Curley relates her work to Machiavelli s The Prince and Thomas Hobbes Social Contract, two works symbolize human wickedness and lack of morality. Additionally, Stanley Renner s Secular Meaning in A Good Man Is Hard to Find display similar attitudes regarding the story and religious motives. Instead of showcasing O Connor s the religious motives mentioned above, Renner looks directly at the secular interpretations of the story. For example, Renner argues that the Grandmother s love for Jesus only stirred the murderer s homicidal rage (Renner 124), implying that the Misfit merely possessed atheist viewpoints instead of diving into the greater meaning of the story by how religion played a role in A Good Man Is Hard to Find. Air Jordan is manufactured in China and allegedly costs Nike a little over $16 to make a pair. Yet, Air Jordan s are priced at anywhere between $100 to $600 a pair, depending on the style and color. The pricing strategy for this brand is value based. The selling price is determined not by the cost of the goods, but by the status that buyers think they are valued. Consumers measure the quality of Air Jordan s by the quality of Michael Jordan s skillful tactics on the basketball courts and are willing to pay a pretty penny to be like Mike, hence their well known motto I want to be, I want to be like Mike. Brutus trust in others and his love of Rome are his greatest faults. His tragic flaw is the trust he places in others. Brutus is easily swayed to trust Cassius when he plots to kill Caesar. Cassius uses his cunning to trick Brutus into believing Caesar is ambitious and that he is killing Caesar for the good of Rome. Cassius says to Brutus, Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world like a Colossus, and we petty men walk under his huge legs...the fault, dear Brutus is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings (Shakespeare Act I. ii. 142 148). Though the qadi claims that the actions of the Caliph all fall within accordance with the Qur an and the teachings of Islam, the series of events required to allow the Caliph to consummate a marriage with the slave girl which involve such workarounds as the ordering of her marriage to a male slave in order to divorce them and avoid the three month period of legal purification (Schroeder, 1955) required for sexual conduct, as well as ordering the male slave to become the property of the girl in order to annul their marriage when the male slave refuses to divorce her on his own it certainly seems that these actions probably violate the spirit of the law, even if they avoid violation of the letter. The story itself makes a somewhat humorous and sly mention of this fact towards the end of the tale, confirming that as to the expiation of the oaths, Abu Yusuf s ruling would hardly be confirmed by jurists of the Shafi i school, (Schroeder, 1955) but noting that Abu Yusuf treated it in accord with the views of his own, the Hanafi school. • 35. My Antonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, And Roselily By Willa Cather The most poignant struggle within female literature is, almost always, the relationship that women have with power. It presents itself in many forms through a relationship, within the workplace, or even self imposed, women are always juxtaposed against the structure of power for one reason or another. However, despite the uplifting narrative development that generally occurs within these stories, the concern about power struggle is never truly resolved the problem remains. Through My Ántonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, and Roselily , the reader can see that the influence of power and its negative and toxic consequences proves fatal within class, race, and gender boundaries. Willa Cather s My Ántonia displays the gender focused concern about power within the female character s life. The narrator, Jim Burden, is immediately introduced to the reader as a man who sees the world through rose colored glasses. That is, he s got a romantic disposition on life and sees things the way he wants to see them, rather than the way they actually are. The most complicated area that concerns Jim, though, is his relationship with Ántonia. Throughout the novel, there s a clear longing for her that Jim seems to exude he never really attempts to kindle a romantic relationship with her, but she s a highly romanticized figure in his eyes and someone who he holds very dear. (Abingdon, 373) Another unique element of the Cain and Abel rivalry and its tragic aftermath is that God personally punished Cain for the murder of Abel, and sent him into exile. But God also showed some mercy to Cain which protected him from harm at the hands of others by putting a mark upon him. The narrator leaves him as one who has been placed under the very special care of God. Hence, the story ought not to be interpreted in basically negative terms, but rather as the activity of one who lives under divine protection and care. This is important because public health actors (i.e., policy evaluators and advocates) do not have the power to make decisions as they represent one voice of among many in the policy making process. • 46. Physics Behind Airplanes The entire concept behind airplanes is to construct them in such a way that the airflow pattern around generates lift allowing them to fly. This airflow is produced by the forward motion of the plane through the air. The forward motion of the plane is produced by its engine, which could be a propeller engine or turbine. These engines create thrust by accelerating the air in front of them backwards. The acceleration of the air backward pushes the plane forward due to Newton s third law as every force has an equal and opposite force. The lift force that allows a plane to remain in the air is created by the airflow passing over the wings. This airflow only occurs if the planes is moving through the air meaning that lift is only possible if a plane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that the planes experiences zero acceleration and the forces acting on the plane must balance each other out. In order for the vertical components of the plane to cancel out, the lift created by the wings must equal the weight of the plane caused by gravity. For the horizontal components of the plane to cancel out, the thrust created by the engines must equal the drag due to air resistance. Although it is important to note, lift is generally angled slightly backwards. This means that some of the drag is caused by the lift force, and the lift force actually needs to be greater than the weight of the plane. When a plane is taking off or landing, it experience similar forces as it does when it is at level flight. Lift remains perpendicular to the velocity of the plane. The drag is in the opposite direction of the velocity. Thrust opposes the drag, so it is in the same direction as the velocity. The weight of the airplane is straight down as it is caused by gravity. Again, if the plane is travelling at a constant velocity, then the forces acting on it must cancel one another. For the following equations, L represents lift, T represents thrust, D represents drag, and W represents weight. In order for the vertical components to equal zero, Lcosθ + Tsinθ Dsinθ W = 0.
