My Dorm Room At The Pennsylvania State University
Staying cool is something we all strive to do when it is too hot, and vice versa when it is too cold.
Being to hot or too cold is an extreme nuisance in every day lives, but I d much rather be too cold than
too hot. It is quite simple to keep warm: either put on more layers of clothing or wrap yourself in a
blanket. To keep cool is another story; one could strip off layers of clothes until they are naked and
have no more layers to go, then they resort to a fan, which in turn is just blowing more hot air at them.
Coming to The Pennsylvania State University I was excited to learn, meet new people and have fun,
and I have been able to do most of those, however, it is sometimes difficult with the scalding oven that
is my dorm room. To help fix the problem that my fellow students and I are experiencing, I propose
that the university either install central air conditioning in all dorms, or, barring that, install air
conditioning units in dorm rooms, in order to allow students to get more sleep, better grades, and have
an overall better and healthier college experience. Sleeping for as long as you want! Sounds like
paradise, but it is quite unrealistic. Instead I would ask to sleep for as long as I could until my alarm
wakes me up for class. That should not be too much to ask for, nonetheless, it takes great effort on my
part to do the actual sleeping. It is hard enough to go to bed with thoughts of grades and of life little
stresses in general, but is remarkably difficult when

The United States Federal Government Essay
To guarantee a partition of forces, the U.S. Federal Government is comprised of three branches:
legislative, executive and judicial. To guarantee the administration is successful and nationals rights
are ensured, every branch has its own particular forces and obligations, incorporating working with
alternate branches.(Branches of Government · House.gov n.d.) The legislative branch is comprised of
the House and Senate, referred to all in all as the Congress. Among different forces, the legislative

from the subcommittee consent to accelerate a bill, it is accounted for to the full advisory group,
where the procedure is rehashed once more. f the full board of trustees votes to favor the bill, it is

Our Inner Circle, By Michael Gomez Essay
How we regard ourselves and our place in the world is often how happiness is measured. Connections
crafted with one another are frequently at the axis of that self perception. Friendships, family, and
community provide us shoulders to cry on, extended hands to lift us up when we are down, and share
in our proudest achievements. Within our inner circle we feel safest and most as ease. That circle is
also part of a greater group we call community. It shares similar values, language and often religion.
The community protects each inner circle, fostering a common culture that allows its members to feel
at ease even when venturing beyond the inner circle. Being extracted from that inner circle and
community through use of force, without warning, and relocated across the world with no ability to
commune with those in which a profound bond was formed is analogous to death.
For over 400 years, millions of Africans and their American slave descendants lived with that
nightmare. Dr. Michael Gomez wrote, Words will never convey the agony, despair, and bewilderment
of these innocents, the depth of their suffering, the pain of their separation. The American slave trade
and damage it caused to those who lived under threat of constant separation is one of the great
cruelties in the history of the world. Giving voice to individuals silenced as a result of slavery,
scholars are providing specifics on individuals who survived and by what means they struggled to
preserve their identities,

The Decision Making Process Of Public Bodies On Decisions...
Scenario A This is an application for judicial review. Judicial review is a means of reviewing and
challenging the decision making process of public bodies on decisions that affect both the individuals
and the public. Judicial review is discretionary. It allows those affected to challenge the process so
therefore it is not an appeal. In a claim for a judicial review there is a certain criteria that must be met
in order for the application to succeed. The key points in theory are party being reviewed must be a
public body, concerns a public law issue and the individual/group have standing. According to Lloyd
LJ ...if a body in question is exercising public law functions, or if the exercise of its functions have
public law consequences, then that may be sufficient ti bring the body within the reach of judicial
review thus making it a public body as stated in the case of R v Panel on Takeover and Mergers, ex
parte Datafin (1987). Detection of a public body is a two stage test as defined in the case of Datafin
which are the source of power and functions test also known as Defacto public functions test. In this
case therefore applying the two stage test, minister for family affairs is a public body because he is the
head of a government department thus carrying out functions that directly affects the public. Public
law is the relationship between public body of the state and an individual. The decision made by the
minister has directly affected Rajwinder and Simran thus

American Schools Are Failing For Minority Students
The idea that American schools are failing is not a new one, but it is an idea that is extremely
widespread. There are constant news reports claiming that our schools are worse than ever and
Congress has passed extensive legislation such as No Child Left behind in an attempt to fix the
American educational system. Some people believe that American schools are not completely failing,
but only failing for minority students. Reforms like mandatory busing, vouchers, charter schools,
accountability, and high stakes testing have been proposed to address these social inequalities. Despite
the intentions of these policies, they have not always helped close the social inequality gap.
Mandatory busing was a reform started in the 1970s to desegregate ... Show more content on

Mandatory busing helped push out students that were more likely to succeed from public schools
leaving behind the students that struggled the most.
A more recent educational reform program is the concept of school choice. Instead of being forced to
attend the school chosen by the local district students would receive vouchers. Students would be able
to take their voucher and apply the funds normally allocated to them at any school. Parents would be
able to decide which school is the best for their children and students that would normally be trapped
in a low performing school could instead attend a different school. A problem with vouchers is that
private schools are allowed to approve if a student can attend. The students that could benefit the most
from moving to a private school could be refused admittance. Another issue is that higher income
families would be more likely to use this program than lower income families that do not have the
same values in education. Finally school vouchers would be taking money away from the public
school system which would reduce the quality of education that the public schools could provide.
Charter schools are another approaching in allow parents and students to have a choice in where their
children go to school. Charter schools are approved by a

Papa Jack
Papa Jack For a book that is a must read in class, Papa Jack: Jack Johnson and the Era of White Hopes
is a book that really is a must read. I remember hearing the term about giving someone a Jack
Johnson, but I never knew where the term came from. For example, they use this saying in
Anchorman and now that I know who the saying is about, I find it to be even funnier. Anyway, if you
are someone who likes sports or history of sports, then you should read Jack: Jack Johnson and the Era
of White Hopes because it gives a description as to how a young African American came to rise to the
top at a time where this was unheard of. This is almost like an underdog story, but it turned out that
Jack Johnson was the best regardless of this skin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is also remarkable because many other African Americans were being lynched for becoming
involved with a white woman, but Johnson being Johnson, he did not care about what others thought
about him seeing white women. After waiting and chasing Burns around, Johnson finally got the
opportunity to fight against Burns. The fight was in late 1908 and was also for the heavyweight
championship. While fighting, Johnson ended up beating up on Burns for the racial comments that
Burn was spitting out before the bought. Johnson would actually hold Burns up when Burns would try
to fall. This was so that he could deliver even more of a beating. Even the crowd was yelling racial
slurs, but Johnson would just smile and just beat on Burns even more. Jack Johnson had become the
heavyweight champion. White people were still not ready to call Johnson their champion because they
did not consider Burns the true champion since Johnson destroyed him. Even after Johnson won the
heavyweight championship, places did not like having him around. For example, while traveling
around the country to celebrate his victory, hotels would not let Johnson stay in them. This is because
Johnson was not only African American but also because he was traveling around with white women.
As stated earlier, white folks did not like a black man with a white woman. Even though Johnson was
not very popular in the streets, he was still popular in the

Old Timer
My definition of old timer would be someone in their 70s.80s. So I would take the age at which Mr.
Old Timer was raising his children, which was apparently when he would have been at the age to
determine respectfulness of his own children. Let s say 25 years old. That generation would have had
multiple children by then. If he was born in 1940, he would have been 25 years old in 1965. I would
take data from his geographic area from the years 1965 and 2010. Each group would have 20 people
who were under the age of twenty years old in each of the two years. They would be interviewed on
criminal record, juvenile record, level of education, drug use or history of, and perceived life
satisfactions during childhood, as well as parenting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outcome then depends on the data and information collected. While testing a hypothesis, the
researcher might commit type 1 or type 2 error because either the null hypothesis or alternative
hypothesis is rejected when it is true. Rejecting of the null hypothesis will result in type 1 error; and
alternative hypothesis in type 2 error. It is therefore important to allow room for possibility of
committing either of these errors as no study is perfect (Chang, 2011). Hypothesis I will formulate is
How does the level of parental involvement in children s lives affect the amount of respect given and
trouble caused in the past vs now.
To test this hypothesis, I would conduct a study of an acceptable sample size from a population that
best describes my study. I would then conduct a survey on a group of parents from a decade to two
decades ago and now; asking them questions regarding their involvement with their child and the
amount of respect given to them from their children and how much troubled they caused. After the
collection of my data and my results are recorded, a statistical test should be done to determine
whether the difference between the parental involvements from a decade to two decades ago versus
the involvement now is affecting the amount of respect given and trouble caused by their kids, and if

The idea however is quite challenging. It reminds me of a young philosopher who is questioning why
bad things happen to good people. Surely it is chance, but what Hardy is hinting towards is what if it
is a bad thing only because we THINK it is a bad thing? It is almost circular. I do not know much
about Hardy but what I do know is that he tried really hard to believe in god but in the end, he came
out completely agnostic. This poem shows that struggle.
Hap is a poem by Thomas Hardy (1840 1928) that he wrote in 1866, while working as a trainee
architect, and for which he could not find a publisher. It did not reach the general public until 1898
when Hardy included it in his first collection, which was entitled Wessex Poems , which only
appeared after he had concluded his career as a highly successful novelist.
The poem is a sonnet, although it is presented as three stanzas in that the traditional octave is split into
two stanzas each of four lines and the sestet is a stanza on its own. The rhyme scheme is ABAB
CDCD EFEFFE, which is a variant on the Shakespearean form, although the clean break between
octave and sestet is more associated with the Petrarchan sonnet form.
The poem can be seen as Hardy s reaction to the basic thinking that underlies Darwin s The Origin of
Species which had been published in 1859. Hardy understood Darwin to imply that the mechanism
that drove natural

A Brief Note On Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Health
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience social disadvantages which significantly
impacts their physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual and social health. This essay analyses the
impacts of the social determinants of health such as socioeconomic status, early life and psychological

Effects Of The Boxer Rebellion
The Boxer Rebellion also known as the Yihetuan movement was an anti imperialist group which
occurred during the late part of the Qing Dynasty around 1898 to 1900. This group was mostly formed
of peasants in Northern China who began to come together as a group now known as the boxer
rebellions. The members of this secret group practiced boxing and calisthenic rituals which they
believed would make them invulnerable to foreign weapons, such as guns and bayonets. Originally,
the Boxers were unhappy with the influence that foreigners had in China, they wanted to destroy the

Attribution Theory and Depression
Mike E. Calderin
Christopher Newport
Attribution Theory and Depression Baron, Branscombe, and Byrne (2009) explain the attribution
theory as not wanting to just know how ourselves and others act, but why we and others act that way.
People assign attributes or reasons to why something happens to better perceive, justify, and
understand why people act the way they do. The Attribution Theory can be applied to many different
areas of peoples lives. In recent years the attribution theory has been applied to different areas
including Depression (Baron, Branscombe, Byrne, 2009). According to the Mayo Clinic Staff
depression is defined as, a medical illness that causes a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The interesting thing about his findings is that this attitude affected further performance on later tests
that were different. Just like self fulfilling prophecy; if you are of the mindset you won t do well then
you probably will not.
Different therapies have come about in an attempt to help depressed individuals change their mindset
and stop engaging in self deprecating thoughts. The Attribution retraining (AR) therapy is one of the
techniques under the umbrella of cognitive behaviors. AR attempts to treat depressed individuals
negative thoughts and behaviors by changing the explanations for problems and symptoms. AR has
become popular and heavily researched in China because it is shorter and easily applied (Wang, et. al.,
2011) Depression is easy to target with attribution theory because it can be individualized to the
patients need and target the negative outcomes specifically. AR therapy targets the negative
attributions by supplying alternative explanations that are more healthy attributions (Wang et. al.,
2011). By offering a healthy alternative explanation the depressed person begins to make sense and
not feel so out of control of their life. This may also lead to a quick way for depressed individuals to
assess what is really happening and why they perceive the situation so negatively. This goes back to
the many different facets of depression. By targeting where the negative perceptions are coming from

Comparing The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms
Although, Canada offers comparable qualities and values with other countries, The Charter of Rights
and Freedoms really separates Canada from other social liberties enactments. The Charter of Rights
and Freedoms upholds the diversity of differing qualities of Canadian culture and assures the freedom
of individuals that lengthens boundaries apparent to the constitutionalized law. Thusly, contrasted with
different nations, Canada s judiciary performs a huge part in deciphering the law. Considering the
Charter of Rights and Freedoms which consists of basic human rights, it is evident that Canada has
many significant laws that acknowledge and protect the rights and freedoms including the liberty and
equality of citizens. In my opinion, the most important law that Canada has is Fundamental Freedoms.

The Charter of Rights and Freedoms permits protection to freedoms within individuals of Canada.
Everyone in Canada has a right to practice any belief or religion as they would like to. We have

How Did Dorothy Height Contribute To The Women s Rights...
Greatness is not measured by what a man or woman accomplishes, but by the opposition that he or she
has overcome to reach his goals. This powerful quote by Dorothy Height illuminates the value of
living to your fullest potential despite your circumstances and the limits that have been set for you.
Being an African American woman in the early to mid 1900s, Dorothy Height had an abundance of
obstacles to face and overcome. During this time, African Americans and women were still fighting to
earn their natural rights. Height was a key figure in both the civil rights and women s rights
movements, often even called the godmother of the women s movement . She did not conform to the
limitations of society; she refused to accept the idea that she should be restricted based on her race or
sex.
For more than six decades, Height worked as an activist focused on improving the lives of African
Americans and women. She is acknowledged as one of the first to consider these two concerns
indivisible, combining issues that had previously been thought largely separate. She did not allow the
restrictive boundaries set before her to prevent her from reaching her full potential. She attended

Lolita Pedophile
How do people set up the border between affection and illness? As metaphorically as it may seem,
although people now have clearer understanding of the importance when it comes to mental health,
some of the common conceptual illness such as pedophilia still haunts the society with the confusion
between one s freedom of choice and a disease that can be cured or eased. To grasp the controversy
and the impact of psychology and the society, Lolita is an essential piece of literature that
demonstrates the real life application of an example in mental illness and how the society characterize
the patients that affects the group as a whole. From Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, the theme of mental
illness and social values is introduced in three main aspects: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The American Psychiatric Association has confirmed the latest corrected information: The new
manual specifies that in order for an atypical sexual behavior to be classified as a mental condition, a
person must: 1. Feel personal distress about their interest, not merely distress resulting from society s
disapproval; or 2. have a sexual desire or behavior that involves another person s psychological
distress... for sexual behaviors involving unwilling persons or persons unable to give legal consent.
(Stuart) In other words, as long as one does not violate others right and does not involves in unwilling
sexual relationship, one should not be considered as a pedophile but a person who has a preferable
sexual orientation. Because this concept released in 2013 has not been widely realized in the society,
the unclear information confuses people with the seemingly abstruse fantasy. In the story Lolita, the
same issue is also being debated: On one hand, the society is aware of the potential crime with
pedophilia and yet regard the hidden danger of mental illness in every individual like Humbert; On the
other hand, people with a particular disapproving sexual orientation is thought to be the scapegoat of
rapists and abusers. This eventually leads the novel to become a controversial work, Is he[Humbert] in

The debate of nature vs nurture is long standing in the world of Psychology. In this essay we shall
look at the different perspectives and theories from the behaviourist and biological approaches and the
objective of this assignment is to discuss the importance of attachment in human development. To do
this we can make reference to the case of Genie who suffered severe neglect as a child. Behaviourism
was first introduced by John Watson who opposed the naturists and took the view that the mind is
there to be manipulated through conditioning methods and so attachments are learned. However there
are theories and studies which counter the argument. The evolutionary theory of attachment was
developed by John Bowlby a psychoanalyst. Bowlby s theories lay in the nature side of the debate as
he believes all actions are innate and we are pre programmed to form our attachments After presenting
all the evidence and theories can any conclusions be drawn about forming attachments which are so
critical for our human development.
The case of Genie drew scientists and psychologists from around the world. Genie had been
discovered at the age of 13 after having endured terrible suffering by her father since early childhood
having been chained to a potty in her room and kept in complete isolation. There was little
communication between Genie and her family, when she was to make noise her father would beat her
and when he did communicate with her he chose to growl and bark like a dog. After

Therefore, why shouldn t we set our focus on the other devastating happenings occurring? Throughout
our country, this is a common feeling among many people. Why is domestic violence a common
concern when there are these other worries? Besides knowing these other epidemics, there is another
common thought that concludes with people thinking domestic violence is over exaggerated: being
able to determine who is actually abused and who isn t is a very difficult question. There are many
factors that play a part in deciding. Pamela Biron is an author of many blogs that relate to dealings
within a family, such as domestic violence, child abuse, alcohol addiction, and more. Within one blog
called False Allegations of Domestic Violence in Divorce Cases , she explained many statistics and
facts that either a man or women had lied about that had to do with domestic violence. One study
showed, Fathers organizations now estimate that up to 80% of domestic violence allegations against
men are false allegations. Furthermore, 70% of restraining orders are trivial or false (Biron). The
reasons for these false allegations are simple.
Many people lie because there are an incredible amount of sources that can help a victim, including
legal support, counseling, employment services, financial assistance, services for children, or health
related services. These services are easily attainable if you can prove to be a victim. Yet, being able

Henry Ford s Impact On World History
Henry Ford
One may wonder, Who greatly impacted history? The first people that come to mind may be Benjamin
Franklin, Karl Marx, and Albert Einstein. However, one key person is missing, Henry Ford. Ford was
an icon of his time who was largely known for his revolutionary ideas. He was a pioneer as well
thinking of many new ways to run a business that weren t seen before. Henry Ford impacted world
history by revolutionizing car building, boosting the economy, founding the art of mass production,
and leaving a lasting legacy known as Ford. Cars and car building would have been completely
different today without the congenial ideas of Henry Ford. Before Ford, every car was built piece by

legacy was more than just the car business. It was the fact that Henry strived everyday to be a better
business owner and a better person. He wanted success for his business and his employees. A quote
that suits him well is Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together
is success (Henry Ford Quotes). It was often said that Henry would support young inventors and
donate money so that the inventors could have a chance just like he had when he was a young man. He

Gavrilo Princip Research Paper
Gavrilo Princip was an extremely influential person in the history of the world. Princip was born on
July 25th, 1894 in Obljaj, Bosnia. He left his childhood home at the age of thirteen to go and live with
his older brother, Jovo. On October 5, 1908, Bosnia was annexed from the Austro Hungarian Empire.
Serbian nationalists believed this was unfair and took the Bosnian territory from them. This caused
secret societies to begin. One was called Narodna Odbrana, National Defense, and the other was
Ujedinjenje ili Smrt, which means Unification or Death , also known as The Black Hand (Gavrilo
Princip Facts). The Black Hand was created in 1911 and Princip was moved up into the society in
1912. This group trained and recruited people to act as terrorists, setting Princips mind on eliminating

Anti Semitism was going on before World War II, but the war enhanced the discrimination. Death
camps were slowly being built all across Poland and Germany in the early 1930 s leading up the war.
Nuremberg Laws were created in 1935 and the defined Jewish people by blood and called for an order
to separate Hitler s views of Aryans from non Aryans (Anti Semitism). Six million Jewish civilians
were killed. After the war, anti semitism continued all the up to modern day history. This is still a
problem the world is dealing with.Throughout history there have been many massacres and violent
riots against Jews (Anti Semitism). Most of the time, these acts are encouraged by government
personnel. The government has gotten so involved with anti semitism throughout Europe, and around
the entire world, that their have become political groups based on it. Towards the end of the 19th

Elements Of Effective Organization Organizations
Elements of Effective Organizations Every organization strives to become a high performing
organization. The essential elements of effective organizations include a practical business structure,
an excellent communication strategy, competent managers, and influential leaders. The elements of
success are the same for all organizations; however, the process of incorporating the elements are
different because every organization is unique. Organizational Structure Effective organizational
structures define how job tasks are subdivided, grouped, coordinated, and managed. Six key
components of organizational structures include division of labor, departmentalization, chain of
command, span of control, centralization, and formalization (Remme, Jones, Van der Heijden, De
Bono, 2008, p. 79). Each element influence how employees interact with each other to reach
organizational goals. Different structures are common in similar organizations among high performing
organizations (Reimann, 1974, p. 707). The most appropriate structure will depend on the unique
needs and culture of the organization. The division of labor dictates the degree to which
responsibilities are subdivided into separate units. It is communicated through job descriptions, and
ensures each employee has specific duties to perform based on their work experience, education, and
capability. Departmentalization determines which jobs are grouped together to create departments.

Stereotypes In Pretty Woman
Pretty Woman is a rags to riches romantic comedy directed by Gary Marshall in 1990. It is a dark
warning tale about class and sex work in Los Angeles. The story centers on down on her luck
Hollywood prostitute Vivian Ward who is portrayed by Julia Roberts, who is hired by Edward Lewis,
portrayed by Richard Gere, a wealthy businessman who wants Vivian to be his escort for various
social upper class events and businesses and their emerging relationship during her stay with him.
The characters in the film goes as follows:
Edward Lewis, a rich corporate businessman and womanizer from New York. He is shown to be
assertive, prideful and egoistic man. Portrayed by Richard Gere.
Vivian Ward, a pretty woman who is a lady of the evening with a heart of gold but also independent
and assertive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie discusses till what extent does the depiction of sex and sexuality are acceptable in social
hierarchy. Vivian s empowerment is seen when she first steps in the car with Edward when he does not
have the enough knowledge about cars whereas Vivian does. Driving is stereotypically seen as an
masculine activity, hence this scene portrays an amazing reversal of gender roles. It is also seen how
Edward is taken a back by Vivian s confidence and independence, not traits stereotypically associated
with prostitutes. Pretty Woman
Questions the tolerance of modern society to display of sexuality, drawing parallels between sex and
power. Throughout the film, parallels are shown between Edward and Vivian s work despite the fact
that they are polar opposite social classes.

Essay on Code of Hammurabi and the Book of Exodus
The secular laws of Babylon were laid down by Hammurabi in The Code of Hammurabi , and in the
book of Exodus. These laws provided stability and order in those respective societies. As society
depended upon them, it is natural to assume that the laws relied upon society as well and reflect the
values held by each society, not only in the laws themselves, but also in how they are written, whom
they pertain to and how they are executed. While at first glance the law codes appear similar, there are
a number of differences that provide key insight to what was held dear in each society. How do
differences in these two law codes attest to differences in the two societies which pronounced them,

(Avalos 621). This furthers the impression that Israelite society was one more deeply rooted in
tradition and religious customs. This is not to say that the temples were not used in Babylon, in fact
court proceedings usually took place within the temple. The reason for this was that in the event of it
being impossible to decide the outcome of a trial, the accused was usually required to make an oath to
the gods proclaiming his or her innocence. (Greengus 473) Babylonian trials were usually recorded in
writing and stored to prevent future lawsuits and confusion.
The greatest differences in the values of each society can be seen in the laws themselves, what they
cover and how they do so. Many of the laws in Exodus relate to agriculture such as Exodus 22:5,
which deal with allowing livestock to graze on another man s property. Agricultural vocabulary is also
used throughout the book, indicative of a more agrarian economy. However, the Code of Hammurabi
has a vast number of laws relating to material goods reflecting a much more financially centered
culture than we see in ancient Israel. Numbers 15 and 16 in the Code of Hammurabi concern runaway
slaves and the consequences of harboring them.

Akira Kurosawa s The Seven Samurai and John Sturges The Magnificent Seven
The 1954 movie The Seven Samurai, directed by Akira Kurosawa, and its 1960 remake The
Magnificent Seven, directed by John Sturges have many similarities; for example, the plot of both
movies entails farmers hiring mercenaries to help fend off bandits that annually pillage their farms.
The two movies also have differences like the characterization of the bandits in The Magnificent
Seven as opposed to The Seven Samurai.
One of the main similarities between the Seven Samurai and Magnificent Seven is the plot. In both
movies bandits annually pillage a small village and the farmers are left with barely enough food to
survive. In the Magnificent Seven Calvera and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Seven Samurai they come in contact with Katsushiro, a young and inexperienced samurai, and
Kikuchiyo, a samurai who has jumped castes. In Magnificent Seven Chico plays both of these roles, a
young inexperienced gunslinger who used to be a farmer. In both movies the main character finds an
old friend: Shichiroji (SS), Harry (MS), and a quiet, older and tremendously experienced
samurai/gunslinger: Kyuzo (SS), O Reilly (MS).
Once six mercenaries are acquired they set off to the village and Chico/Kikuchiyo follows behind until
the mercenaries decide to let him join. Once the mercenaries arrive, in both movies, all the farmers are
hiding because they think the samurai/gunslingers are just as bad as the bandits and they hid all their
women in fear that they would seduce them. As time progresses though the farmers begin to trust the
samurai/gunslingers and are trained how to fight. Unlike in The Seven Samurai the bandits in The
Magnificent Seven actually talked with the gunslingers and tried to persuade them to join their group,
but to no avail, and the battle was started. The fighting in both the movies is pretty much the same
with little battles occurring over a three day period until the final battle.
In Magnificent Seven one of the farmers, having doubts about winning, let the bandits in the village

Establishing a Home Network
A Complete Home Network
Introduction
When establishing a home network it is important that you evaluate the needs you have for all of the
users in your household as well as backup options and how we will connect to the network and the
security of your network. I will be looking at developing such a network for my home using the given
budget of $1,000 and explain why my choices will meet my networking needs as well as looking to
see what changes could be made over time if given a larger budget to work with.
Elements of the Network
When establishing a home network there are many great resources available even to novices in the
field online that outline some of the core essentials that were covered in this course of what one ...

This cloud option allows me to have similar functionality to what online storage options would
provide; I can backup files from all of my computers and also have access to do so from my mobile
devices. My Cloud has incredibly fast upload speeds and is highly rated for its industry leading
password protection and encryption. Having 2TB of space available for storage on the cloud would
allow for sufficient file storage of all four users currently as well as allow for the eventual growth of
the network as well.
Expanding the network
Assuming that I was given an additional $1,000 to my budget to expand the network I would look to
move past the basic setup I have established for four users to have access to the network and the file
sharing/backup system I have established. I would begin expanding memory to improve performance
and would move to start including game consoles, Smart TVs, Blu Ray players, smart phones and
tablets. There are a myriad of options that are available to include in my home network in this age of
technology. The possibilities are truly limitless at this point, with new devices and new technologies
becoming available every single day.
Conclusion
This network has a solid start and has the essential components of any network which are the
computers, the router, and available storage as well as security. Truthfully, once you have these basics
in place you have solid building blocks ready to begin expanding and enhancing to create the perfect

Making Sense of White Working Class Educational Underachievement
Summary
The article Making sense of white working class underachievement by Diane Raey (2009) In the K. P.
Sveimsson (ed) Who Cares about the White Working Class? , Published by The Runnymeade Trust, is
important in indicating the weaknesses of the education system in the United Kingdom today.
According to this article, the White working class children do not perform well in academic
performance. This issue is the centre stage for a tug of war among the parents, teachers, the
government and the wealthy and middle class people within this jurisdiction. As it emerges, the issue
is more complex than it seems and includes historical perspectives, the perceptions towards the ...

Children from the white working families do not feature anywhere in class or in administration due
process. School administration and teachers want nothing to do with them. It is also important to note
that in most cases, the wealthy make policies of any govern sector including schools as Diane points
out.
For the white working families children to do well in education and perform well, they would have to
change. However, changing is somehow risky and even limited. After all, the students may change to
defy all odds but they do not have an effect on the policy making process which is for the middle class
and the wealthy. At the same time, it would be extremely challenging to go above the perceptions in
the society. The middle class and the wealthy also need to change. Change in this case is acceptance of
the white working class families as they are and work together to address the problem together.
However, this seems to be just an illusion basing on the perceptions the middle class and the wealthy
have towards the white working class group.
Strengths and Weaknesses
The article by Diane Raey (2009) titled Making sense of white working class underachievement
provides a lot of information on the problems leading to low academic performance of the white
working class children. The article has well articulated sections and topics, which describe the
problem well. In each section, the author provides all the necessary information

Desire Vs. Morality And Duty
Section I: Theme Desire vs. Morality and Duty: Throughout the novel, Ethan seems to struggle with
managing his desire for Mattie and his duty as a husband. This theme is apparent throughout the
entirety of the novella. It starts before the book even begins. Ethan, in the first chapter, admits to often
walking Mattie, his wife s cousin, home just to spend few minutes alone with her. However it is first
mentioned in the book when Ethan is standing alone, just watching Mattie dance. He knows he has a
wife to get back to, but yet all he can imagine is being in that party and being the one who is dancing
passionately with Mattie. Although, his sense of duty and morality is not only because of his
relationship with Zeena, but because he fears the way his society would react to such a scandal.
Although his desire to leave Zeena, a sour and sickly old woman, is somewhat understandable, he
knows that his society would shun him if he abandoned her for another woman. Later in the book, this
theme is again apparent when Zeena must leave to see a new doctor about her illness. Ethan loses his
sense of duty to her, and lies to Zeena so that he can spend time with the one he so desires. However
in chapter nine, this theme is most apparent. After Zeena tells Ethan that she is to throw Mattie, the
love of his life and the last force that could make him happy, out on the streets to make room for a new
hired girl, Ethan devises a plan to run off with Mattie. He spends an entire night making

  • 2. My Dorm Room At The Pennsylvania State University Staying cool is something we all strive to do when it is too hot, and vice versa when it is too cold. Being to hot or too cold is an extreme nuisance in every day lives, but I d much rather be too cold than too hot. It is quite simple to keep warm: either put on more layers of clothing or wrap yourself in a blanket. To keep cool is another story; one could strip off layers of clothes until they are naked and have no more layers to go, then they resort to a fan, which in turn is just blowing more hot air at them. Coming to The Pennsylvania State University I was excited to learn, meet new people and have fun, and I have been able to do most of those, however, it is sometimes difficult with the scalding oven that is my dorm room. To help fix the problem that my fellow students and I are experiencing, I propose that the university either install central air conditioning in all dorms, or, barring that, install air conditioning units in dorm rooms, in order to allow students to get more sleep, better grades, and have an overall better and healthier college experience. Sleeping for as long as you want! Sounds like paradise, but it is quite unrealistic. Instead I would ask to sleep for as long as I could until my alarm wakes me up for class. That should not be too much to ask for, nonetheless, it takes great effort on my part to do the actual sleeping. It is hard enough to go to bed with thoughts of grades and of life little stresses in general, but is remarkably difficult when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Our Inner Circle, By Michael Gomez Essay How we regard ourselves and our place in the world is often how happiness is measured. Connections crafted with one another are frequently at the axis of that self perception. Friendships, family, and community provide us shoulders to cry on, extended hands to lift us up when we are down, and share in our proudest achievements. Within our inner circle we feel safest and most as ease. That circle is also part of a greater group we call community. It shares similar values, language and often religion. The community protects each inner circle, fostering a common culture that allows its members to feel at ease even when venturing beyond the inner circle. Being extracted from that inner circle and community through use of force, without warning, and relocated across the world with no ability to commune with those in which a profound bond was formed is analogous to death. For over 400 years, millions of Africans and their American slave descendants lived with that nightmare. Dr. Michael Gomez wrote, Words will never convey the agony, despair, and bewilderment of these innocents, the depth of their suffering, the pain of their separation. The American slave trade and damage it caused to those who lived under threat of constant separation is one of the great cruelties in the history of the world. Giving voice to individuals silenced as a result of slavery, scholars are providing specifics on individuals who survived and by what means they struggled to preserve their identities, ... • 5. The Decision Making Process Of Public Bodies On Decisions... Scenario A This is an application for judicial review. Judicial review is a means of reviewing and challenging the decision making process of public bodies on decisions that affect both the individuals and the public. Judicial review is discretionary. It allows those affected to challenge the process so therefore it is not an appeal. In a claim for a judicial review there is a certain criteria that must be met in order for the application to succeed. The key points in theory are party being reviewed must be a public body, concerns a public law issue and the individual/group have standing. According to Lloyd LJ ...if a body in question is exercising public law functions, or if the exercise of its functions have public law consequences, then that may be sufficient ti bring the body within the reach of judicial review thus making it a public body as stated in the case of R v Panel on Takeover and Mergers, ex parte Datafin (1987). Detection of a public body is a two stage test as defined in the case of Datafin which are the source of power and functions test also known as Defacto public functions test. In this case therefore applying the two stage test, minister for family affairs is a public body because he is the head of a government department thus carrying out functions that directly affects the public. • 6. American Schools Are Failing For Minority Students The idea that American schools are failing is not a new one, but it is an idea that is extremely widespread. There are constant news reports claiming that our schools are worse than ever and Congress has passed extensive legislation such as No Child Left behind in an attempt to fix the American educational system. Some people believe that American schools are not completely failing, but only failing for minority students. Reforms like mandatory busing, vouchers, charter schools, accountability, and high stakes testing have been proposed to address these social inequalities. Despite the intentions of these policies, they have not always helped close the social inequality gap. Mandatory busing was a reform started in the 1970s to desegregate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mandatory busing helped push out students that were more likely to succeed from public schools leaving behind the students that struggled the most. A more recent educational reform program is the concept of school choice. Instead of being forced to attend the school chosen by the local district students would receive vouchers. Students would be able to take their voucher and apply the funds normally allocated to them at any school. Parents would be able to decide which school is the best for their children and students that would normally be trapped in a low performing school could instead attend a different school. A problem with vouchers is that private schools are allowed to approve if a student can attend. The students that could benefit the most from moving to a private school could be refused admittance. Another issue is that higher income families would be more likely to use this program than lower income families that do not have the same values in education. Finally school vouchers would be taking money away from the public school system which would reduce the quality of education that the public schools could provide. Charter schools are another approaching in allow parents and students to have a choice in where their children go to school. Charter schools are approved by a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Papa Jack Papa Jack For a book that is a must read in class, Papa Jack: Jack Johnson and the Era of White Hopes is a book that really is a must read. I remember hearing the term about giving someone a Jack Johnson, but I never knew where the term came from. For example, they use this saying in Anchorman and now that I know who the saying is about, I find it to be even funnier. Anyway, if you are someone who likes sports or history of sports, then you should read Jack: Jack Johnson and the Era of White Hopes because it gives a description as to how a young African American came to rise to the top at a time where this was unheard of. This is almost like an underdog story, but it turned out that Jack Johnson was the best regardless of this skin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is also remarkable because many other African Americans were being lynched for becoming involved with a white woman, but Johnson being Johnson, he did not care about what others thought about him seeing white women. After waiting and chasing Burns around, Johnson finally got the opportunity to fight against Burns. The fight was in late 1908 and was also for the heavyweight championship. While fighting, Johnson ended up beating up on Burns for the racial comments that Burn was spitting out before the bought. Johnson would actually hold Burns up when Burns would try to fall. This was so that he could deliver even more of a beating. Even the crowd was yelling racial slurs, but Johnson would just smile and just beat on Burns even more. Jack Johnson had become the heavyweight champion. White people were still not ready to call Johnson their champion because they did not consider Burns the true champion since Johnson destroyed him. Even after Johnson won the heavyweight championship, places did not like having him around. For example, while traveling around the country to celebrate his victory, hotels would not let Johnson stay in them. This is because Johnson was not only African American but also because he was traveling around with white women. As stated earlier, white folks did not like a black man with a white woman. So I would take the age at which Mr. Old Timer was raising his children, which was apparently when he would have been at the age to determine respectfulness of his own children. Let s say 25 years old. That generation would have had multiple children by then. If he was born in 1940, he would have been 25 years old in 1965. I would take data from his geographic area from the years 1965 and 2010. Each group would have 20 people who were under the age of twenty years old in each of the two years. They would be interviewed on criminal record, juvenile record, level of education, drug use or history of, and perceived life satisfactions during childhood, as well as parenting ... While testing a hypothesis, the researcher might commit type 1 or type 2 error because either the null hypothesis or alternative hypothesis is rejected when it is true. Rejecting of the null hypothesis will result in type 1 error; and alternative hypothesis in type 2 error. It is therefore important to allow room for possibility of committing either of these errors as no study is perfect (Chang, 2011). Hypothesis I will formulate is How does the level of parental involvement in children s lives affect the amount of respect given and trouble caused in the past vs now. To test this hypothesis, I would conduct a study of an acceptable sample size from a population that best describes my study. I would then conduct a survey on a group of parents from a decade to two decades ago and now; asking them questions regarding their involvement with their child and the amount of respect given to them from their children and how much troubled they caused. After the collection of my data and my results are recorded, a statistical test should be done to determine whether the difference between the parental involvements from a decade to two decades ago versus the involvement now is affecting the amount of respect given and trouble caused by their kids, and if is ... Surely it is chance, but what Hardy is hinting towards is what if it is a bad thing only because we THINK it is a bad thing? It is almost circular. I do not know much about Hardy but what I do know is that he tried really hard to believe in god but in the end, he came out completely agnostic. This poem shows that struggle. Hap is a poem by Thomas Hardy (1840 1928) that he wrote in 1866, while working as a trainee architect, and for which he could not find a publisher. It did not reach the general public until 1898 when Hardy included it in his first collection, which was entitled Wessex Poems , which only appeared after he had concluded his career as a highly successful novelist. The poem is a sonnet, although it is presented as three stanzas in that the traditional octave is split into two stanzas each of four lines and the sestet is a stanza on its own. The rhyme scheme is ABAB CDCD EFEFFE, which is a variant on the Shakespearean form, although the clean break between octave and sestet is more associated with the Petrarchan sonnet form. The poem can be seen as Hardy s reaction to the basic thinking that underlies Darwin s The Origin of Species which had been published in 1859. People assign attributes or reasons to why something happens to better perceive, justify, and understand why people act the way they do. The Attribution Theory can be applied to many different areas of peoples lives. The Attribution retraining (AR) therapy is one of the techniques under the umbrella of cognitive behaviors. AR attempts to treat depressed individuals negative thoughts and behaviors by changing the explanations for problems and symptoms. AR has become popular and heavily researched in China because it is shorter and easily applied (Wang, et. al., 2011) Depression is easy to target with attribution theory because it can be individualized to the patients need and target the negative outcomes specifically. AR therapy targets the negative attributions by supplying alternative explanations that are more healthy attributions (Wang et. al., 2011). By offering a healthy alternative explanation the depressed person begins to make sense and not feel so out of control of their life. This may also lead to a quick way for depressed individuals to assess what is really happening and why they perceive the situation so negatively. Being an African American woman in the early to mid 1900s, Dorothy Height had an abundance of obstacles to face and overcome. During this time, African Americans and women were still fighting to earn their natural rights. Height was a key figure in both the civil rights and women s rights movements, often even called the godmother of the women s movement . As metaphorically as it may seem, although people now have clearer understanding of the importance when it comes to mental health, some of the common conceptual illness such as pedophilia still haunts the society with the confusion between one s freedom of choice and a disease that can be cured or eased. To grasp the controversy and the impact of psychology and the society, Lolita is an essential piece of literature that demonstrates the real life application of an example in mental illness and how the society characterize the patients that affects the group as a whole. In this essay we shall look at the different perspectives and theories from the behaviourist and biological approaches and the objective of this assignment is to discuss the importance of attachment in human development. To do this we can make reference to the case of Genie who suffered severe neglect as a child. Behaviourism was first introduced by John Watson who opposed the naturists and took the view that the mind is there to be manipulated through conditioning methods and so attachments are learned. However there are theories and studies which counter the argument. The evolutionary theory of attachment was developed by John Bowlby a psychoanalyst. Bowlby s theories lay in the nature side of the debate as he believes all actions are innate and we are pre programmed to form our attachments After presenting all the evidence and theories can any conclusions be drawn about forming attachments which are so critical for our human development. The case of Genie drew scientists and psychologists from around the world. Genie had been discovered at the age of 13 after having endured terrible suffering by her father since early childhood having been chained to a potty in her room and kept in complete isolation. There was little communication between Genie and her family, when she was to make noise her father would beat her and when he did communicate with her he chose to growl and bark like a dog. After ... The essential elements of effective organizations include a practical business structure, an excellent communication strategy, competent managers, and influential leaders. The elements of success are the same for all organizations; however, the process of incorporating the elements are different because every organization is unique. Organizational Structure Effective organizational structures define how job tasks are subdivided, grouped, coordinated, and managed. Six key components of organizational structures include division of labor, departmentalization, chain of command, span of control, centralization, and formalization (Remme, Jones, Van der Heijden, De Bono, 2008, p. 79). Each element influence how employees interact with each other to reach organizational goals. Different structures are common in similar organizations among high performing organizations (Reimann, 1974, p. 707). The most appropriate structure will depend on the unique needs and culture of the organization. The division of labor dictates the degree to which responsibilities are subdivided into separate units. It is communicated through job descriptions, and ensures each employee has specific duties to perform based on their work experience, education, and capability. These laws provided stability and order in those respective societies. As society depended upon them, it is natural to assume that the laws relied upon society as well and reflect the values held by each society, not only in the laws themselves, but also in how they are written, whom they pertain to and how they are executed. This is not to say that the temples were not used in Babylon, in fact court proceedings usually took place within the temple. The reason for this was that in the event of it being impossible to decide the outcome of a trial, the accused was usually required to make an oath to the gods proclaiming his or her innocence. (Greengus 473) Babylonian trials were usually recorded in writing and stored to prevent future lawsuits and confusion. The greatest differences in the values of each society can be seen in the laws themselves, what they cover and how they do so. Many of the laws in Exodus relate to agriculture such as Exodus 22:5, which deal with allowing livestock to graze on another man s property. Agricultural vocabulary is also used throughout the book, indicative of a more agrarian economy. This theme is apparent throughout the entirety of the novella. It starts before the book even begins. Ethan, in the first chapter, admits to often walking Mattie, his wife s cousin, home just to spend few minutes alone with her. However it is first mentioned in the book when Ethan is standing alone, just watching Mattie dance. He knows he has a wife to get back to, but yet all he can imagine is being in that party and being the one who is dancing passionately with Mattie. Although, his sense of duty and morality is not only because of his relationship with Zeena, but because he fears the way his society would react to such a scandal. Although his desire to leave Zeena, a sour and sickly old woman, is somewhat understandable, he knows that his society would shun him if he abandoned her for another woman. Later in the book, this theme is again apparent when Zeena must leave to see a new doctor about her illness. Ethan loses his sense of duty to her, and lies to Zeena so that he can spend time with the one he so desires. However in chapter nine, this theme is most apparent.
